- 0:02Happy Tuesday, everybody. Hey Wallace, does your arm get
- 0:09tired of holding that Sunoco coffee cup up all the time?
- 0:17Is the way I can tell you've never watched.
- 0:21So welcome to Coffee with Kenny. I can always tell when
- 0:26somebody's brand new and it makes me happy because they all
- 0:30say, hey Wallace, don't your arm get tired holding that coffee
- 0:38cup up The whole time I'm like, I've been holding that thing up
- 0:42like that for over a year. It feels good.
- 0:46All right. Yesterday evening I mother some
- 0:51people because I just got tired of all the bitching and moaning.
- 0:56You know what the response was when we quit complaining?
- 1:01That means we don't care anymore.
- 1:04Oh, reminds me of ODW Darrell Waltrip years ago.
- 1:12He said just because we complain doesn't mean we we hate the
- 1:16sport. So I guess the more you all
- 1:20complain, the more you like the sport.
- 1:23Is that, Is that where we're going with this?
- 1:26Respond right here? I bitch and moan all the time
- 1:31because I love the sport so much.
- 1:35There could be something to that.
- 1:38There could be something to that.
- 1:39Maybe, maybe you all might win me over with your bitching and
- 1:43moaning. 24782 days a day, 82 days a week, 485 days a year.
- 1:52It never ends. My God, my ears hurt.
- 1:58All right, so perception is today's talk.
- 2:06Perception, reality. So we know that our sport is
- 2:10down what, 70% from the glory days.
- 2:15So on the glory days we would 200,000 people and we all know
- 2:21that. But the sport is still thriving.
- 2:24There's more money in the sport right now than there's ever
- 2:28been. By the way, I just thought about
- 2:32this because I saw it. The TV ratings came out just now
- 2:35for the Masters. The Masters is golf's greatest
- 2:41game. It's kind of like our Daytona
- 2:43512,500,000. People watched the Masters, and
- 2:51boy, it was a good one. Rory McIlroy won over Justin
- 2:56Rose. I watched it.
- 2:59You know, they tied after four days of golfing, they tied and
- 3:03Rory, Rory and Justin both had great shots, but Rory's shot
- 3:09come rolling back right to the damn hole.
- 3:12And of course, Rory McIlroy finally won a Masters.
- 3:17My point is this. The great thing about golf is
- 3:20this. Everybody can golf, everybody
- 3:25can golf and one might say, oh, golf is expensive compared to
- 3:31what? From what I hear, hockey is the
- 3:35most expensive sport for any family.
- 3:38If if you got a child and you want to go play hockey, they say
- 3:42renting the rink, buying the equipment is incredibly
- 3:46expensive. The reason golf is such a great
- 3:50game is anybody can golf, you know, it's relatively cheap, you
- 3:56know, to go golfing. You can buy a used set of clubs
- 3:59and or you can borrow your buddy's set of clubs.
- 4:02It's not like you have to have a set of clubs.
- 4:06You can go golfing with somebody and you both can use the same
- 4:10set. You both can, you know, save up
- 4:14and whatever it costs to go to your, you know, golf course,
- 4:17whatever it is, brings me to this.
- 4:22Racing is really expensive. It's a very expensive sport and
- 4:26not everybody can race right. There is a reason why there was
- 4:3212,500,000 people watching the Masters because everybody is a
- 4:39golfer and everybody could have made that putt.
- 4:43You know, when when Justin Rose missed his putt, you know, there
- 4:49were some people going, oh man, I could have made that.
- 4:53You see those people, they love it.
- 4:55And, and I think golf is a wonderful game too.
- 4:58As as Rodger Penske says, you better learn how to golf because
- 5:03that's where all the sponsorship deals are made in racing on the
- 5:07golf course. That's why you see a lot of
- 5:10racers learn how to golf because if you're going to work with
- 5:13corporate America, they love the golf, those CE OS, they love the
- 5:17golf. You go on the golf course,
- 5:19become friends, have a couple drinks and then you golf.
- 5:24All right, perception versus reality.
- 5:30So we know that in golfing, everybody can golf and, and what
- 5:34are you, what are you going to bitch about in golfing?
- 5:36What what can you bitch about? Right?
- 5:41Not much. It's like, what did you know you
- 5:45had you had golf versus live and you know they're going to play
- 5:49over in Abu Dhabi, but that was just politics that had nothing
- 5:52to do with the sport. Like like golfing like so brings
- 5:58me to this too. Had a couple people say Bristol
- 6:04was empty. I'm like, it's seats 155,000
- 6:08people, everybody it's going to be empty.
- 6:11So all the other tracks, they got rid of their seats and you
- 6:18don't hear that much about those tracks.
- 6:21But Bristol cannot get rid of their seats because so many
- 6:26years ago, what was it? Tennessee balls played West
- 6:35Virginia. Respond right here.
- 6:37I, I know you people in Virginia, you get really
- 6:39critical of your Virginia's and your West Virginia's.
- 6:42It's kind of like North Carolina, South Carolina.
- 6:45But you know, North Carolina and South Carolina, you never hear
- 6:48that. I guess there was never a civil
- 6:51war between North and South Carolina.
- 6:53But y'all in Virginia you got you get pissed when it's named
- 6:58wrong. I've learned that.
- 7:02Tell me why that is Respond right here.
- 7:04So anyway, they, they set a baseball or no, excuse me, they
- 7:09set a football record there, you know, 135,000 people.
- 7:14So we talked about this last week, you do not want to get rid
- 7:18of grandstands at Bristol because Bristol is where they're
- 7:22holding world records. So it leads me to this, August
- 7:272nd, the Cincinnati Reds, Atlanta Braves are going to play
- 7:30there and they want to set an attendance record.
- 7:35However, when you go out to the Phoenix Raceway holds about
- 7:3960,000 people, the crowd looks good, perception, look, the
- 7:48stands are empty, but yet there's record amount of money
- 7:54in the sport and we're averaging about two and a half million
- 7:58people watching every week. I'm going to leave you all with
- 8:02this. You say that and you say that an
- 8:08empty arena looks ugly. You say I'm going to say it
- 8:13again, you say, but but an empty arena looks ugly.
- 8:18When you complain all the time, it looks ugly.
- 8:22So I don't want you guys to keep complaining.
- 8:25It hurts my ears. And plus when you complain again
- 8:29all the time, it grows on you. You become a complainer, see?
- 8:35So that's where I differentiate. When people say just because I
- 8:39complain that that means I care. No, complaining looks ugly.
- 8:44It hurts my ears, and it's all about me.
- 8:49You know, there's going to be somebody new on here going at
- 8:52Wallace's Sarcastic. The moral of the story of the
- 9:01day is yes, you can complain, but I'll probably mute you so I
- 9:07don't have to hear you because I get exhausted.
- 9:11And as far as there being empty seats, that's because the place
- 9:16seats 155,000 people. And as far as the car, the next
- 9:21Gen. car, the next Gen. car is the car.
- 9:26And we had four incredible races.
- 9:29We've had two races where 2 drivers have completely
- 9:32dominated and you're bitching is so loud it hurts my ears.
- 9:37I said it yesterday, Kyle Larson is a thing of beauty.
- 9:42He is complete domination. Years ago Darryl Waltrip won
- 9:47seven races in a row and the stands were packed at Bristol.
- 9:53There was 30,000 people there. Maybe couple front stretch
- 9:59grandstands, couple back stretch grandstands, perception.
- 10:05Darrell Walter won seven in a row and there might have been
- 10:0930,000 people there. Have a great, great Tuesday,
- 10:14everybody.
