- 0:08Daniel Moore: Have you ever noticed how easy it is to trust God's plan when everything is going your way?
- 0:12Daniel Moore: The bills are paid, the marriage is humming along, the kids aren't turning the house into a WWE wrestling arena, and your bigger concern is figuring out where to eat after church.
- 0:22Daniel Moore: In those seasons, faith feels easy, but then life throws a curveball.
- 0:27Daniel Moore: A prayer goes unanswered, a dream gets delayed, a setback appears out of nowhere.
- 0:32Daniel Moore: Suddenly, the confidence you had yesterday starts getting replaced by questions today.
- 0:37Daniel Moore: You begin wondering if God has forgotten you, if you missed his direction somewhere along the way, or if maybe that dream he placed in your heart was just wishful thinking after all.
- 0:48Daniel Moore: Well, the truth is every believer in every marriage will eventually walk through seasons that don't make sense.
- 0:54Daniel Moore: Joseph had a dream and ended up in a prison.
- 0:57Daniel Moore: Paul followed God's calling and found himself shipwrecked and beaten.
- 1:01Daniel Moore: Even Jesus walked through the suffering of the cross before experiencing the victory of the resurrection.
- 1:07Daniel Moore: So why are we surprised when our journey becomes difficult in chapters in our life too?
- 1:12Daniel Moore: In this week's episode, we're talking about how God uses hardship not to destroy us but to develop us.
- 1:18Daniel Moore: We'll explore how trials can either drive a wedge between spouses or become the very thing that strengthens their faith, deepens their love, and refines their purpose.
- 1:28Daniel Moore: Sometimes the season that feels like it's falling apart is actually the season that God is putting something greater together.
- 1:35Daniel Moore: Welcome to Marriage Life and More.

- 3:07Daniel Moore: Well, let's go ahead and get into it this week.
- 3:10Daniel Moore: We're going to go ahead and continue our episode from last week, which is episode 11, Resilience Through Trials.
- 3:41Michelle Moore: When betrayal cuts teeth, when dreams fall apart, or when suffering overstays it's broken, our first instinct is to often pull back.
- 3:52Michelle Moore: We retreat emotionally, we become cautious, and we start questioning things we were once confident about.
- 3:59Michelle Moore: Maybe you've been there.
- 4:01Michelle Moore: Maybe you found yourself thinking, did I hear God wrong?
- 4:06Michelle Moore: Maybe I wasn't called to do this after all.
- 4:09Michelle Moore: Maybe the dream was too big.
- 4:12Michelle Moore: Maybe I should just quit.
- 4:14Michelle Moore: Pain has a way of distorting our perspective.
- 4:18Michelle Moore: It turns the volume down on God's promises and cranks the volume up on fear, doubt, discouragement, and worst-case scenarios.
- 4:27Michelle Moore: And if we're honest, most of us secretly believe that as something is truly God's will, it should come with smooth roads, green lights, and very in very few inconveniences.
- 4:39Michelle Moore: We all know that's not right.
- 4:42Michelle Moore: But Scripture tells a completely different story.
- 4:45Michelle Moore: In fact, some of God's greatest servants walk through some of the life's darkest valleys.
- 4:51Michelle Moore: Take Joseph, for example.
- 4:53Michelle Moore: God gave him a dream.
- 4:55Michelle Moore: But before he even saw that dream fulfilled, he was betrayed by his brothers, thrown into a pit, sold into slavery, falsely accused, and imprisoned.
- 5:06Michelle Moore: That's quite a detour.
- 5:08Michelle Moore: At several points, Joseph could have easily concluded that the dream was dead.
- 5:13Michelle Moore: He could have decided that the hardship meant God had abandoned him.
- 5:19Michelle Moore: He could have given up.
- 5:20Michelle Moore: Instead, he remained faithful.
- 5:23Michelle Moore: Years later, he was able to say to his brothers in Genesis 50, 20, You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good.
- 5:34Michelle Moore: What looked like death of a dream was actually part of God's preparation for the dream.
- 5:41Daniel Moore: And I think that's one thing I love about Bible stories, because there's so many of them that just reaffirms inside of us that, you know, stuff may not look so great right at the moment.
- 5:52Michelle Moore: Yeah.
- 5:53Daniel Moore: But look how it turned out for this guy.
- 5:55Daniel Moore: Yeah.
- 5:55Daniel Moore: You know?
- 5:56Daniel Moore: And I love that because we get ourselves in some crazy messes sometimes, not only just as individuals, but even in our marriages.
- 6:04Daniel Moore: Uh, we get ourselves in some real pickles.
- 6:07Daniel Moore: And, you know, it's it's always good when uh we can go through those things and then someday we start seeing that light at the end of the tunnel.
- 6:16Daniel Moore: And if we do come out on the other side of that and something great comes out of it, uh, it's just so awesome, you know.
- 6:24Daniel Moore: And you and you and my example are a perfect example of that.
- 6:29Daniel Moore: We've shared over and over about what God's done with our testimony.
- 6:34Michelle Moore: Yeah.
- 6:35Daniel Moore: And honestly, you know, Michelle and I, we we wish everybody's testimony would be that, you know.
- 6:41Michelle Moore: We wish that you didn't have to go through that.
- 6:43Daniel Moore: We wish you didn't have to.
- 6:44Daniel Moore: Yeah, that would be even better.
- 6:45Michelle Moore: If you do, then yes.
- 6:47Daniel Moore: Yeah, that that definitely would be a better option.
- 6:50Michelle Moore: Make sure it stays Christ centered.
- 6:52Daniel Moore: Yeah.
- 6:52Daniel Moore: Yeah.
- 6:52Daniel Moore: Option A, B, and C where just don't go through it.
- 6:55Daniel Moore: But we know that that's not how life works.
- 6:59Daniel Moore: It throws us these curveballs all the time.
- 7:01Daniel Moore: But, you know, in the middle of those deep dark moments of of all that conflict and that stuff that's going on is when it's easy to really start doubting and and really start thinking, you know, well, did I make the right choice?
- 7:15Daniel Moore: Was this really God's plan for my life?
- 7:17Daniel Moore: Yeah.
- 7:17Daniel Moore: Where did I miss it?
- 7:19Daniel Moore: You know, what what choice did I make back when that sent me off on the wrong path, you know?
- 7:24Daniel Moore: But sometimes it's not really that.
- 7:27Daniel Moore: You know, you are on the right path, but maybe it's just a a mistake that we made.
- 7:32Daniel Moore: It doesn't mean God can't redeem that.
- 7:35Daniel Moore: Right.
- 7:35Daniel Moore: It doesn't mean that he can't take it and make something good out of it.
- 7:39Daniel Moore: And I love the story of Joseph because he went through so much.
- 7:43Daniel Moore: I mean, that story just one thing after another.
- 7:46Daniel Moore: If anybody could have had a a reason to doubt God and be mad at God for what was going on in his life, that's probably Joseph.
- 7:53Michelle Moore: Yeah.
- 7:54Daniel Moore: Because God gave him those dreams and he was so sure of it.
- 7:58Daniel Moore: And yet he had to go through all that trial and hardship just because of dreams that God had given him.
- 8:03Daniel Moore: But then look what happened at the end.
- 8:05Daniel Moore: I know.
- 8:06Daniel Moore: He saved countries.
- 8:08Daniel Moore: I mean, doubt, you know, millions of people that he saved.
- 8:12Daniel Moore: And so we should never downplay the stuff that we have to go through.
- 8:17Daniel Moore: Uh, we we just need to stay focused on Christ as we go through those moments.
- 8:22Daniel Moore: And, you know, it's have to remember that just because the road is hard doesn't mean that you're headed in the wrong direction.
- 8:28Daniel Moore: And I think that is a lie that the enemy tells us sometimes that if we get into a hardship and we come up against things we don't think we can navigate through, then the first insinuation that we get is, well, that's a huge mistake that we've made.
- 8:41Daniel Moore: We need to reroute this.
- 8:42Daniel Moore: And a lot of those times we won't pray because we're so upset and aggravated in our minds to begin with.
- 8:49Daniel Moore: We leave God out of the equation.
- 8:50Daniel Moore: And if we're not careful, we can change that path on our own and walk ourselves out of a bigger blessing or walk ourselves out of a resolution, uh, a Christ, uh, you know, Christ-determined decision or a change in our life because we decided within our own pride that we can do it on our own.
- 9:09Daniel Moore: And that's an important truth that we have to apply to our marriages because many couples, you know, they assume that if they're facing difficulties, that something must be terribly wrong.
- 9:18Daniel Moore: You know, financial pressure arrives, health challenges emerge, communication becomes difficult, parenting gets exhausting, uh, the unexpected setbacks hit, and suddenly they wonder if their marriage is broken.
- 9:31Daniel Moore: They want to blame all that stuff on that relationship, but that's not necessarily what that always means.
- 9:38Daniel Moore: Sometimes hardship isn't evidence that God has left the marriage.
- 9:41Daniel Moore: Sometimes that hardship is evidence that God is strengthening it, strengthening it.
- 9:46Daniel Moore: And you and I are a perfect example of that because we went through a lot of weak moments and the fights and the battles that we had in our marriages.
- 9:54Daniel Moore: But yet, look how God has strengthened us at this point.
- 9:58Daniel Moore: And I'm so thankful for that.
- 10:00Daniel Moore: And you know, as we continue this thought process here, the presence of a storm does not mean the absence of God.
- 10:07Daniel Moore: The enemy loves to use painful seasons to convince us that our purpose has expired and our calling has been canceled.
- 10:14Daniel Moore: He whispers lies like it's over.
- 10:16Daniel Moore: You failed, or you're a failure.
- 10:18Daniel Moore: He likes to put those uh those names on us, they're calling that doing that name calling and trying to make us feel like that that's just who we are.
- 10:27Daniel Moore: Yeah, he'll tell us that you'll never recover or that your best days are behind you.
- 10:31Daniel Moore: You have nothing to look forward to in front of you in your future.
- 10:34Daniel Moore: But scripture continually reminds us that God does some of his greatest work in the middle of difficulty.
- 10:40Daniel Moore: Hardship doesn't disqualify you, it often prepares you.
- 10:44Daniel Moore: And disappointment doesn't erase God's promises, it frequently deepens your dependence upon him.
- 10:50Daniel Moore: And, you know, back in May of 2025, Michelle and I did an episode on another huge milestone that happened in our life that we really wish we could have avoided.
- 11:02Daniel Moore: Um, but we didn't.
- 11:04Daniel Moore: It was something that we had to walk our way through.
- 11:06Daniel Moore: And if you go back to episode 228, you can hear this whole story, but we're gonna just kind of give a little bit of a highlight here because it really fits with this episode that we're doing right now.
- 11:16Daniel Moore: Um, the name of that episode that we did back then in episode 228 was The New Us, Navigating Intimacy After Surgery.
- 11:25Daniel Moore: So Michelle and I went through a point here.
- 11:29Daniel Moore: How many years ago was that?
- 11:30Michelle Moore: Back in 2018.
- 11:32Daniel Moore: 18.
- 11:33Michelle Moore: So seven, six, oh, eight.
- 11:36Michelle Moore: Eight years ago almost.
- 11:38Michelle Moore: Yeah.
- 11:39Michelle Moore: That'd be in August.
- 11:40Daniel Moore: Seems like it was yesterday.
- 11:41Michelle Moore: Eight years, yeah.
- 11:42Michelle Moore: Still feels like it.
- 11:43Michelle Moore: Some of it anyway.
- 11:46Daniel Moore: Probably more so for you.
- 11:47Daniel Moore: Uh just give us a little, just a quick synopsis of kind of what happened to you at that point, just real quickly.
- 11:53Daniel Moore: Because what I want to talk about here, especially, is what was going on through your mind when all of this was taking place, because there's times when it looked like there wasn't really an answer and it was getting worse, you know.
- 12:05Daniel Moore: So just kind of tell us a little quickly here what yeah.
- 12:08Michelle Moore: So pretty much um I had a hysterectomy, um, a full complete hysterectomy because of some issues that I've had previous to other years and everything.
- 12:17Michelle Moore: And um in the midst of that, a week later after I come out of surgery and everything was great, um, I had uh a spot in my arm.
- 12:26Michelle Moore: Um, it came up that I had a massive blood clot in my jugular that almost killed me.
- 12:30Michelle Moore: It was like 99% blocked.
- 12:32Michelle Moore: And so I got in the hospital, they pretty much told me you have kidney issues, and we're like, no, we don't have kidney issues.
- 12:39Daniel Moore: They speak against that.
- 12:40Daniel Moore: Yes.
- 12:41Michelle Moore: We went back, like I was still in the hospital, they were pep uh pushing heparin through me, like right and left.
- 12:48Michelle Moore: And because I had the blood clot in my arm or my jugular on the right side, everything had to be on my left side.
- 12:53Michelle Moore: Well, finally, they just they noticed after all the tests they had done, when I had my hysterectomy, they had nicked my ureter.
- 13:02Michelle Moore: So I had a hole in my ureter from the tool.
- 13:06Michelle Moore: So I went into surgery, they why I was still in the hospital for a week.
- 13:11Michelle Moore: And so my anxiety was extremely high.
- 13:14Michelle Moore: Um, I went back into surgery, they placed a stent.
- 13:18Michelle Moore: Um, six weeks later, I went back into surgery to remove the stent.
- 13:22Michelle Moore: And because normally you can do that in the office, but because of my history with the blood clot and everything that they had to do it in the hospital.
- 13:30Michelle Moore: Um within that was October, all of October, I was super sick and I couldn't figure out.
- 13:39Michelle Moore: I thought this is a new me.
- 13:41Michelle Moore: You and I just kept walking.
- 13:42Michelle Moore: We were like, okay, this is normal.
- 13:44Michelle Moore: We're just gonna have to deal with it.
- 13:46Michelle Moore: Um, thought maybe it was the blood thinner medication.
- 13:49Michelle Moore: Um, then I got really sick and um come to find out, went and had a ultrasound.
- 13:56Michelle Moore: My kidney he took the stent out too early.
- 13:59Michelle Moore: Let's just we'll just put it that way.
- 14:01Michelle Moore: It blocked my kidney completely off.
- 14:03Michelle Moore: My kidney was dying.
- 14:04Michelle Moore: So they rushed me back into emergency surgery.
- 14:08Michelle Moore: Um and they went to put the stent in it.
- 14:11Michelle Moore: Needless to say, the stint would not go through.
- 14:14Michelle Moore: I came out of surgery hearing two nurses saying it didn't work.
- 14:19Michelle Moore: Of course, then my anxiety was ten times higher.
- 14:22Michelle Moore: Um, then we got up to KU with a specialist and visited with him right before Thanksgiving.
- 14:29Daniel Moore: What's crazy about this though, during this time is if anybody's ever had kidney issues, once it starts failing, you're like a ticking clock.
- 14:37Daniel Moore: You've got to really if you don't get to lose your care, you lose it.
- 14:41Daniel Moore: Yeah.
- 14:41Daniel Moore: And things just were not falling into place like they should have been.
- 14:45Michelle Moore: Multiple things was going wrong.
- 14:47Michelle Moore: And so that day was a Monday.
- 14:50Michelle Moore: Um, no.
- 14:51Michelle Moore: It was a Thursday, wasn't it?
- 14:54Michelle Moore: It was a Thursday, it was prior to Thanksgiving week.
- 14:57Michelle Moore: It was a Thursday or Friday.
- 14:59Michelle Moore: He wanted to go ahead and just puck a hole in my back and release the pressure from my kidney um and just wear a drain till January because they could not get me in.
- 15:09Michelle Moore: Once he heard that I was a blood thinner, he was like, Oh gosh, you know.
- 15:13Michelle Moore: So um they scrambled.
- 15:15Michelle Moore: Um, the following next week, I got off my blood thinner enough.
- 15:19Michelle Moore: Thanksgiving was Thursday.
- 15:20Michelle Moore: He told us he would fit us in.
- 15:23Michelle Moore: It was a four-hour surgery, would fit us in on that Wednesday um just to get up there because he couldn't believe I was even walking.
- 15:31Michelle Moore: He couldn't even believe I was talking.
- 15:33Michelle Moore: He was shocked because he was just like, What do you have going on?
- 15:38Michelle Moore: Most people would be crawling in here or already in the hospital.
- 15:41Michelle Moore: But I'm very thankful I have a high tolerance for pain.
- 15:44Michelle Moore: Pretty much I went through the surgery.
- 15:46Michelle Moore: It was end up being what five hours, five and a half hours.
- 15:49Daniel Moore: Almost six, yeah.
- 15:50Michelle Moore: And I'm so thankful he didn't tell me ahead of time of everything that was gonna take because a week later I came home with a stent for seven weeks.
- 15:57Michelle Moore: I had a catheter for three weeks, and um I came back with a lot of anxiety.
- 16:04Michelle Moore: Um, a lot of anxiety.
- 16:06Michelle Moore: I did not expect any of that to happen.
- 16:09Michelle Moore: And I felt like every time I went to the doctor, one doctor would say this, another doctor would say that.
- 16:14Michelle Moore: It was so confusing because they were opposite of each other, and I was so frustrated, and I felt like I was never moving forward, and it just kept going backwards.
- 16:24Michelle Moore: Every time we went to the doctor, we kept getting bad news.
- 16:27Michelle Moore: And um pretty much after that, went back to the doctor to Katie multiple different times.
- 16:34Michelle Moore: And uh thank the Lord I'm at a stage two kidney disease, and he's and and then the crazy thing, it was not even something that my body did.
- 16:44Michelle Moore: It was medically induced to a stage two, it was higher than that.
- 16:49Michelle Moore: But I went through so many doctors, so many specialists, was on my blood thinner off and on.
- 16:56Michelle Moore: I kept getting blood clots for no reason.
- 16:59Michelle Moore: They could not figure it out.
- 17:00Michelle Moore: And it wasn't like your lower extremities, it was the high the the upper extremities, which is not normal for people.
- 17:07Michelle Moore: So come to find out I was gonna end up being on a blood thinner for the rest of my life.
- 17:13Michelle Moore: And pretty much I was until the Lord healed me.
- 17:17Michelle Moore: And um finally my doctor agreed to not make me take it anymore because I I know the Lord healed me.
- 17:26Michelle Moore: And so it was very, very difficult and an unknown season of life of what was gonna happen.
- 17:33Michelle Moore: But because of all that, I still have issues.
- 17:37Michelle Moore: Um, I have lymphedema from the blood clot.
- 17:40Michelle Moore: Um, the hysterectomy has changed my whole life.
- 17:44Michelle Moore: Um, and Dan's life.
- 17:46Michelle Moore: I mean, it has totally I can't handle the things that I used to.
- 17:50Michelle Moore: Um, I'm definitely not the same person.
- 17:52Michelle Moore: Uh so it was that's a that's a small snapshot of the multiple times we went to the doctor.
- 17:58Daniel Moore: Yeah.
- 17:58Daniel Moore: And as we look back through the story, every time we just reminisce about this and kind of realize and understand what all that you went through, we really can now look back and see where God's hand was in different stages through that whole thing.
- 18:11Daniel Moore: Because, like you were saying, the doctors were shocked about a lot of stuff, the hospitals were shocked about a lot of stuff, but we we knew uh-huh what it was.
- 18:19Daniel Moore: We knew God was sustaining you.
- 18:21Michelle Moore: And I couldn't, I I was one of those people that can't take certain things because I had a precancer um tumor removed out of my breast.
- 18:29Michelle Moore: So I couldn't take what most normal people could.
- 18:32Michelle Moore: And then I couldn't do a lot of things because of the blood clot and my lymphedema.
- 18:38Daniel Moore: Yeah.
- 18:39Michelle Moore: It was very I you learn a lot about your body.
- 18:42Daniel Moore: Yeah.
- 18:42Daniel Moore: So the odds are totally against you in a lot of different ways.
- 18:46Daniel Moore: So as you navigated through that, what I want to talk about a little bit now is that mind frame.
- 18:51Daniel Moore: When all this stuff was going on, I don't know how many times I can remember you telling me that if this is gonna happen to anybody, it's gonna happen to me.
- 18:59Daniel Moore: And I still say that to this.
- 19:01Michelle Moore: I still say that to this.
- 19:02Michelle Moore: Because I never had the best luck.
- 19:03Michelle Moore: I say, I'm sorry, Lord, but if you can ask my best friend Paula, she'll tell you if something's gonna happen, it's gonna happen to Michelle.
- 19:10Michelle Moore: And I'm like, I know that's the reason why I don't want nothing to go wrong.
- 19:13Daniel Moore: Yeah.
- 19:14Daniel Moore: But you know, it takes a lot to get somebody to that frame of mind.
- 19:17Michelle Moore: Uh-huh.
- 19:18Daniel Moore: It takes a lot of things happening in your life, those unexpected emergencies and the different things that we never want to walk through.
- 19:25Daniel Moore: It takes a lot of that to get you to that point.
- 19:28Daniel Moore: And so I know that during that time, that was hard on both of us, not only because of the physical problems you were dealing with and the pain, uh, the unknowns.
- 19:39Daniel Moore: Am I going to lose this organ or is it going to make it?
- 19:42Daniel Moore: What's it going to be like after the surgeries are done?
- 19:44Daniel Moore: Am I going to have to be on dialysis the rest of my life?
- 19:46Daniel Moore: You're still in your, you know, 40s at that point, early 40s.
- 19:49Daniel Moore: Uh so it's like there's so many questions uh this navigating through everything.
- 19:54Daniel Moore: I'm wanting to be your your moral support.
- 19:57Michelle Moore: And I was going to school.
- 19:58Daniel Moore: And oh yeah, you were going to school at that time.
- 20:00Michelle Moore: I was doing college at that time too.
- 20:02Michelle Moore: So I was working full-time and I was going back to get my associate's degree.
- 20:06Daniel Moore: So that was a crazy, crazy few years there.
- 20:09Daniel Moore: And my thing is, I want to fix it all.
- 20:12Daniel Moore: I'm your husband.
- 20:13Daniel Moore: I mean, the nights that you sit there in pain just doubled over and nothing phased it.
- 20:19Daniel Moore: I mean, you were popping pills like crazy, just painkillers and that kind of thing, trying to just make it through the night.
- 20:25Daniel Moore: And that killed me.
- 20:26Daniel Moore: I mean, I just I wanted to fix it so bad, but I couldn't.
- 20:31Daniel Moore: And then every time you would make another negative comment about it, it made me feel that much worse because I knew you were going through so much to even be making those comments.
- 20:39Daniel Moore: And but there wasn't nothing I could do except for just be there with you and try to help navigate the hospital stuff and the doctor stuff and you know, try to push things forward the best I could to get it all fixed.
- 20:52Daniel Moore: And but just share a little bit about what your mind frame was during all of that, um, whenever all that was taking place and the battles that you fought in your mind.
- 21:03Michelle Moore: There were several times that, you know, I wasn't too bad at first, but then I can remember getting anxiety.
- 21:11Michelle Moore: I had never had anxiety.
- 21:13Michelle Moore: I never was in a place to allow myself um fear.
- 21:18Michelle Moore: I mean, I've had fear, you know, it comes and goes, but this was to the point where if I got in a car, I'd cry.
- 21:25Michelle Moore: I'd feel sick, and I'm like, I I can't do this.
- 21:29Michelle Moore: I I mean, I'd get to where I literally was scared to do anything and I couldn't hardly breathe.
- 21:35Michelle Moore: Um, but I I do know there was multiple different times though that the Lord kept me in an a mind frame of knowing that he was going to take care of it.
- 21:48Michelle Moore: And I am a big worship person, and so there was multiple times.
- 21:53Michelle Moore: Um, one night in the hospital, Dan couldn't say if me and my mom was there.
- 21:57Michelle Moore: Um, she encamped around.
- 21:59Michelle Moore: My bed.
- 22:01Michelle Moore: And literally, this is how I fight my battles.
- 22:04Michelle Moore: Literally, we played that song over and over, and we just prayed.
- 22:08Michelle Moore: I mean, I know our nurses thought we were nuts.
- 22:11Michelle Moore: But there were times that I'd allow the enemy to just come in and be like, this is just my luck.
- 22:17Michelle Moore: My mind framed was I was down and depressed.
- 22:20Michelle Moore: Like, you know, you deserve this.
- 22:21Michelle Moore: This is how it's going to go.
- 22:23Michelle Moore: Um, but there were other times that I was very high.
- 22:26Michelle Moore: And, you know, I think every time I was faced with something, I was like, why God?
- 22:31Michelle Moore: You know, why why is this happening?
- 22:33Michelle Moore: Instead of saying, you know, father, this is this is happening to me.
- 22:36Michelle Moore: Whatever is going to happen, you're in front of me.
- 22:40Michelle Moore: You're before me.
- 22:41Michelle Moore: And I'm going to walk through this and be, you're going to carry me through it.
- 22:46Michelle Moore: And, you know, instead, there was a lot of times that I'd cry a lot.
- 22:50Michelle Moore: And Dan knows that I'd just cry because I was sick.
- 22:55Michelle Moore: I I was very down.
- 22:57Michelle Moore: Um it was very hard.
- 22:59Michelle Moore: And that's not a place that I was used to.
- 23:02Michelle Moore: So it was definitely a season of life that I I don't ever want to go back to.
- 23:10Daniel Moore: Yeah.
- 23:10Daniel Moore: I don't want to go back there.
- 23:15Michelle Moore: Yeah.
- 23:16Michelle Moore: I I don't I look at it now and I'm just I mean, I'm thankful I went through it because it's it's a season of life that has taught me a lot of things.
- 23:25Michelle Moore: Um and I've watched some of my other friends go through things and where they've taken it head on and be like, praise the Lord, I'm alive.
- 23:32Michelle Moore: You know, this I'm used for the God's glory.
- 23:35Michelle Moore: And here I was totally opposite at times, not all the time, but it was very, I was very scared a lot because I never knew what was gonna happen.
- 23:45Michelle Moore: And it every time I went, some it was something not good.
- 23:49Daniel Moore: Yeah.
- 23:49Michelle Moore: And so I was.
- 23:51Michelle Moore: I I let anxiety come in.
- 23:53Michelle Moore: And let me tell you, did I not every time I got in a car to go to Kansas City, I just I cried.
- 23:58Michelle Moore: I was like, I can't do this, I don't want to do this.
- 24:00Michelle Moore: And I mean, it was tough.
- 24:03Daniel Moore: Yeah.
- 24:03Daniel Moore: And you know, the times that I had to sit there and watch you, you know, cry through things and not necessarily always from pain.
- 24:10Daniel Moore: It was just sometimes from frustration.
- 24:12Daniel Moore: Yep.
- 24:13Daniel Moore: Or like you said, the anxiety or the fear of what's coming up, the unknown.
- 24:18Daniel Moore: Uh, I myself didn't even know what all that income passed because I wasn't the one in that.
- 24:24Daniel Moore: You know, I'm I'm the outsider here looking in.
- 24:27Michelle Moore: And he was my advocate because there were times that things were not right.
- 24:32Michelle Moore: Yeah uh that we we I mean, we could have had one several different malpractice suits on a couple of things.
- 24:40Michelle Moore: And of course, that's not who we are, but at the same time Dan had to be my advocate.
- 24:46Michelle Moore: I mean, he point blank had to sit there and ask that doctor.
- 24:49Michelle Moore: If this and he did, if this was your wife or your daughter, what would you do?
- 24:54Michelle Moore: You know, because we weren't getting anywhere.
- 24:57Daniel Moore: Yeah, because it wasn't getting fixed where we were, and we had other choices, but how what's the best choice?
- 25:03Daniel Moore: You know, it's like this is could be a life or death situation.
- 25:06Daniel Moore: And the last thing you want to do is make the wrong choice.
- 25:09Daniel Moore: And that pressure was put on me a little bit because you were in you were in no state of mind to be making that choice and that decision.
- 25:17Daniel Moore: And so that was something that I had to pray about and and hopefully get the right direction.
- 25:21Daniel Moore: And thank the Lord, he directed that path for us, and we went to I mean, the doctor at K U was phenomenal.
- 25:29Michelle Moore: He was, he was godsent.
- 25:30Daniel Moore: Yeah, I mean he your life is owed to him, I guess the best way to put that.
- 25:34Michelle Moore: He he truly he gave up his Thanksgiving plans.
- 25:37Daniel Moore: Yeah.
- 25:38Michelle Moore: I mean, he flew out pa later.
- 25:40Michelle Moore: Yeah.
- 25:40Michelle Moore: His family left without him so that I could have that surgery.
- 25:44Daniel Moore: Yeah, he was a godsend.
- 25:45Daniel Moore: Yeah, no doubt about it.
- 25:47Daniel Moore: And but you know, one thing that you know I struggled with all through that thing was I was I wish there was something I could have done.
- 25:55Daniel Moore: You know, and some some of you guys out there that's listening right now, you might be navigating a season like this right now.
- 26:01Daniel Moore: Uh it it may be something coming up on your radar that you don't know about.
- 26:04Daniel Moore: You know, we just don't know what's in our future sometimes.
- 26:08Daniel Moore: Uh so that's one reason, you know, we wanted to share this story is because even if it's all roses right now for you and nothing's wrong, everything's great, you've got the best life ever.
- 26:19Daniel Moore: Uh, you do have to make sure that you stay grounded in Christ because Satan is out there and he loves to create turmoil.
- 26:28Daniel Moore: And there are some times that some bad things can happen to people, and we're never prepared for it.
- 26:36Daniel Moore: I'm not going to say that we are because we're not, because we always hope that nothing's going to happen.
- 26:40Daniel Moore: But we can be better prepared if we make sure that we keep Christ in the center of everything because there's just some things that we can't handle on our own.
- 26:49Daniel Moore: And you and I have been through a couple of scenarios like that.
- 26:52Daniel Moore: We've had to keep God in the middle and rely on him and lean on him in so many ways.
- 26:56Daniel Moore: And so, again, if you'd like to hear that whole story in depth, you can go back to episode 228 and listen to that because that also affected our intimacy.
- 27:05Daniel Moore: And there's a lot of things that that's affected in our actual life situation and will from this going forward.
- 27:12Michelle Moore: I was going to say still to this day.
- 27:13Daniel Moore: And so there's a lot more to that story if you'd like to go listen to that.
- 27:16Daniel Moore: But you know, sometimes what feels like a setback to us is often a setup for God's greater purpose.
- 27:21Daniel Moore: And you can look at different examples in the Bible, like the Apostle Paul and Jesus.
- 27:26Daniel Moore: You know, both of them went through so much being beaten, imprisoned.
- 27:30Daniel Moore: Uh, you know, Paul was shipwrecked and rejected, and he was constantly opposed.
- 27:34Daniel Moore: Jesus went to the cross.
- 27:36Daniel Moore: He literally gave his life for us.
- 27:39Daniel Moore: And he had to do that before he saw the victory of the resurrection.
- 27:43Daniel Moore: He had to go through all of that.
- 27:45Daniel Moore: And, you know, that reminds us that God's greatest victories are often hid inside of our hardest seasons.
- 27:52Daniel Moore: And that truth applies not only to our calling, but it can also apply to our marriages.
- 27:58Daniel Moore: When trials enter a marriage, they often expose weaknesses that we didn't know existed.
- 28:02Daniel Moore: And it really quickly you can tell where your weak spots are when Satan starts attacking.
- 28:08Daniel Moore: And if something happens, you know, drastically, like what's happened to us, it could have been real easy for us to just crash and burn because it takes a strength there that sometimes I don't think people understand to get through stuff like that unless you actually experience it.
- 28:24Michelle Moore: Right.
- 28:25Daniel Moore: And I still look at you and think, you know, how strong of a person you were.
- 28:29Daniel Moore: And I know through that whole thing you felt like you weren't strong, but I look at it from the outside seeing what all I think myself, what if I had to have gone through that?
- 28:38Daniel Moore: You know, it's like I wouldn't have wanted to go through that.
- 28:41Daniel Moore: You know, it's just like I look at you as a very strong person to have made it through where you are now to the person that you are now, and that you still love God.
- 28:51Daniel Moore: You know, you still keep Him first in your life.
- 28:54Daniel Moore: And I I've seen you grow because of all of this stuff.
- 28:57Daniel Moore: And so, you know, it's amazing sometimes how quickly stress can turn two teammates into amateur attorneys building cases against one another when bad things start happening.
- 29:08Daniel Moore: And that's why trials do matter, uh, because they reveal areas where God wants to grow us.
- 29:13Daniel Moore: And I think that through both of the things that happened with you and I, I think that it did bring us to a place where he did help us to grow.
- 29:22Daniel Moore: And I'm so thankful for the fact that he did help us grow.
- 29:26Daniel Moore: There's a scripture in James chapter one, and it's verses two through four.
- 29:30Daniel Moore: It says, consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.
- 29:39Daniel Moore: Now, isn't that a backward scripture?
- 29:42Daniel Moore: I mean, when you was going through all of your stuff, was that the first thing you thought was, I'm gonna be joyful in all of this?
- 29:48Michelle Moore: No.
- 29:50Daniel Moore: Not at all.
- 29:50Daniel Moore: I don't think any of us think of it that way, you know.
- 29:54Daniel Moore: But Paul or or James here, I guess I should say, it's not Paul.
- 29:58Daniel Moore: Uh, you know, James, he he seems kind of twisted-minded here when he says this, you know, that we're supposed to consider it joy.
- 30:04Daniel Moore: But you know, there's there's a reason behind that.
- 30:07Daniel Moore: You know, James didn't say that the trial was enjoyable.
- 30:11Daniel Moore: That's not what he's saying there.
- 30:12Daniel Moore: What he's saying is that they are productive.
- 30:14Daniel Moore: Yeah.
- 30:15Daniel Moore: God uses those and he works through them, and God accomplishes things in us that that comfort and that convenience sometimes never will.
- 30:24Daniel Moore: Yeah.
- 30:24Daniel Moore: If we stay comfortable all the time and we have all the conveniences of life, all the answers are constantly there.
- 30:31Daniel Moore: There's a a lot of times that we're probably not going to learn some of those deep life lessons that we need to.
- 30:38Daniel Moore: And so it takes us going through those trials.
- 30:40Daniel Moore: That's why we should be joyful about it.
- 30:43Daniel Moore: So when you look at the scripture that way, it becomes a little bit more understandable.
- 30:48Daniel Moore: Because if we truly want to grow in Christ and become a better person and who Christ wants us to be, then all those bad things that come up in those trials, we have to look at them with a little bit different perspective.
- 31:22Michelle Moore: Yeah.
- 31:22Michelle Moore: Um, God rarely wastes a trial.
- 31:25Michelle Moore: He uses it to build something internal inside us.
- 31:28Michelle Moore: One of the most encouraging truths in all of the scripture is this God does not waste pain, not a single tear, a single disappointment, not a single season of waiting, a single heartbreak.
- 31:42Michelle Moore: He uses every part of it.
- 31:45Michelle Moore: He uses pain to shape our character, to deepen our faith.
- 31:50Michelle Moore: He uses adversity to strengthen our marriages.
- 31:53Michelle Moore: He uses difficulties to prepare us for our future assignments.
- 31:57Michelle Moore: Romans 5, 3 through 5 explains the suffering produces perseverance, perseverance produces character, and character produces hope.
- 32:07Michelle Moore: In other words, God is accomplishing something even when we can't see it.
- 32:13Daniel Moore: And sometimes when we go through that stuff, what's the first thought we have is God, why have you left me?
- 32:18Daniel Moore: Where are you at?
- 32:20Daniel Moore: You know?
- 32:20Michelle Moore: I did.
- 32:21Michelle Moore: Why me?
- 32:22Daniel Moore: Yeah, why me?
- 32:23Daniel Moore: Yeah.
- 32:23Michelle Moore: So that's what I was like, why me?
- 32:25Michelle Moore: Why did I have to go through this?
- 32:27Michelle Moore: Why couldn't it be normal?
- 32:28Daniel Moore: Exactly.
- 32:29Daniel Moore: You know, all these questions that we ask as people, because in our infinite minds, we can't wrap our minds around what God's doing in that moment.
- 32:37Daniel Moore: But what we have to remember is that our pain may have entered our life uninvited, but it never entered without God's awareness.
- 32:44Daniel Moore: God does not forget who and where we are at any moment in our life.
- 32:49Daniel Moore: And you know, a good example of that is Job.
- 32:52Daniel Moore: You know, he understood this truth because after losing his wealth, his health, and much of what he held dear, what did he declare in Job 23 10?
- 33:01Daniel Moore: He said, But he knows the way that I take.
- 33:04Daniel Moore: When he has tested me, I will come forth as gold.
- 33:08Daniel Moore: And that is such a powerful image.
- 33:11Daniel Moore: Yes.
- 33:11Daniel Moore: Because if you think about it, gold becomes more valuable when it passes through the fire.
- 33:17Daniel Moore: It passes through the fire, it gets purified.
- 33:19Daniel Moore: And it's not because the fire destroys it, the fire refines it.
- 33:23Daniel Moore: And the same is true of us.
- 33:25Daniel Moore: The same is true in marriage.
- 33:27Daniel Moore: You know, financial stress can deepen trust.
- 33:30Daniel Moore: Illness can strengthen compassion.
- 33:32Daniel Moore: Loss can increase appreciation.
- 33:35Daniel Moore: Trials can teach couples to depend upon God and each other in ways that they never would have otherwise.
- 33:41Daniel Moore: And I think some of the strongest couples that you'll probably ever find are probably some of those couples that's been through a lot of trials together.
- 33:49Daniel Moore: They've weathered the storms and they realize that not only is having God in their life a good strengthening point for them, but the fact that they have a good strong spouse standing next to them to help them through that fire as well, uh, that really strengthens their marriage and causes them more to rely on each other and to stand by each other's side whenever they go through these things.
- 34:14Daniel Moore: Uh, because you know, one thing we have to remember is that the fire was never sent to destroy your marriage.
- 34:18Daniel Moore: It can become the very thing that God uses to refine it.
- 34:22Daniel Moore: And that also doesn't mean, though, that the process feels good.
- 34:26Daniel Moore: And there's moments that we're probably gonna cry ourselves to sleep.
- 34:29Daniel Moore: You know, Michelle's had plenty of those, and I've had some myself.
- 34:33Daniel Moore: There's moments when prayers seem unanswered.
- 34:35Daniel Moore: There's lots of times that we prayed about your situation and just crossed our fingers, you know, just it's real easy to that for that faith to waver when you're going through so much to think that if God's gonna answer that prayer or not, you know, it's it everything's hinging on a prayer.
- 34:51Daniel Moore: There's also moments when dreams appear shattered beyond repair.
- 34:55Daniel Moore: And there's moments when we wonder where God is.
- 34:57Daniel Moore: But if you look at Isaiah chapter 43, verse 2, it provides one of the most comforting promises in Scripture.
- 35:04Daniel Moore: It says, When you pass through the waters, I will be with you.
- 35:07Daniel Moore: When you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you.
- 35:11Daniel Moore: When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned.
- 35:14Daniel Moore: Notice that God again, he doesn't say if, he says when.
- 35:19Daniel Moore: Trials, they are a part of life, but so is God's presence.
- 35:24Daniel Moore: The promise isn't that we'll avoid hardship, the promise is that we'll never face it alone.
- 35:30Michelle Moore: Thank the Lord.
- 35:30Daniel Moore: We've always got God on our side and we've got each other.
- 35:33Daniel Moore: You know, if both of us are good grounded Christians, that's just an extra strength uh support post there that we can hang on to and know that we're gonna win this fight together.
- 35:45Daniel Moore: Yeah, we're gonna stick through it through thick and thin.
- 35:47Michelle Moore: Right.
- 35:48Michelle Moore: God's presence in the fire is greater than our desire to escape it.
- 35:52Michelle Moore: So if you're walking through a difficult season right now, personally, spiritually, or in your marriage, don't press the eject button.
- 36:01Michelle Moore: Don't abandon your calling.
- 36:03Michelle Moore: Don't give up on your spouse.
- 36:05Michelle Moore: Don't surrender the dream God planted in your heart.
- 36:09Michelle Moore: Instead, let the trial do its work.
- 36:12Michelle Moore: Let it strengthen your faith.
- 36:14Michelle Moore: Let it deepen your dependence on God.
- 36:17Michelle Moore: Let it grow your compassion, let it refine your character and let it strengthen your marriage.
- 36:25Michelle Moore: Galatians 6 9 reminds us let us not become weary in doing good, for the proper time we'll reap a harvest if we do not give up.
- 36:36Michelle Moore: That's not just a promise for ministry, that's a promise for marriage, it's a promise for families, it's a promise for anyone who feels exhausted from fighting battles they never expected to face.
- 36:49Michelle Moore: Keep showing up, keep praying, keep trusting, keep loving, keep believing, because painful seasons may be a part of your story, but they are not the end of your story.
- 37:04Daniel Moore: And I'm so thankful for that.
- 37:06Daniel Moore: Yes.
- 37:06Daniel Moore: Because look where you're at now.
- 37:09Michelle Moore: Yes.
- 37:10Daniel Moore: I mean, I'm so thankful that regardless of what you've been through and the things that I've had to stand by your side through, uh, here we stand.
- 37:20Daniel Moore: You know, um we've got testimony that we can share out of this, and it's only because of but God.
- 37:29Daniel Moore: Right.
- 37:30Daniel Moore: Those two words, you know.
- 37:32Daniel Moore: I love that phrase because you you hear that so often as you know, people be talking about their testimony and they'll they'll tell about something bad in their life that happened or whatever, and then they get to that point where they say, but God.
- 37:44Michelle Moore: Yeah.
- 37:44Daniel Moore: God intervened, God changed things, God made a way, God answered prayer.
- 37:50Daniel Moore: And we have to keep our eyes focused on that.
- 37:53Daniel Moore: If we if we continue to focus, you know, like you, if you'd sit there and just focused on your pain, focused on the kidney, focused on the fact that we was having a hard time finding the right doctor, getting to the right hospital, uh, that will literally just that'll eat you alive.
- 38:08Michelle Moore: Well, finances on top of all that.
- 38:10Daniel Moore: Yeah, yeah.
- 38:11Michelle Moore: It it can.
- 38:13Daniel Moore: Yes, it can destroy you if you're not careful.
- 38:15Daniel Moore: And the only way that you can get through all of that is we have to lean on God.
- 38:20Michelle Moore: Yeah.
- 38:20Daniel Moore: And but I'm so thankful that of all of this stuff that we've been through between, you know, last week's episode and this week's episode, um, it's it's unfortunate that we have examples that we can share for that because you always wish that the bad stuff doesn't happen to you, but you know it did happen.
- 38:37Daniel Moore: We can't go back and change any of that.
- 38:39Daniel Moore: All we can do now is look forward and thank God for the miracles that he worked and the prayers that he did answer.
- 38:45Daniel Moore: And that we're where we are at now, stronger in him, growing in faith together and accomplishing what God's called us to do.
- 38:53Daniel Moore: And I'm so thankful for that.
- 38:55Daniel Moore: Is there anything that you'd like to add to this episode before we close it this week?
- 38:58Michelle Moore: No, I would just say there was a scripture and I was trying to look for it on my phone and I can't I couldn't find it because I have it underlined in my Bible.
- 39:05Michelle Moore: But um one of the things I want to say is if you're going through like doctor appointments and stuff like that, any for you know, anything that you're being challenged with on any of that, cling to the Lord.
- 39:18Michelle Moore: Also, your husband or your spouse, whatever it may be, husband, wife, is there right along with you.
- 39:25Michelle Moore: Let them help fight that battle as well.
- 39:28Michelle Moore: Let them walk beside you, you know, and be honest, be open with them.
- 39:35Michelle Moore: Um, I don't know how many times I told Dan I was just like, I'm sick and tired of this, I don't want to do this.
- 39:40Michelle Moore: And he would encourage me, you know, you've got this.
- 39:44Michelle Moore: God's got you, you know, and I'd be like, I can't do this, you know.
- 39:48Michelle Moore: There was d different kinds of testing that I was going through that I literally would have a panic attack.
- 39:54Michelle Moore: Um so make sure you're communicating with your spouse.
- 39:59Michelle Moore: I don't know what communication, but communication comes up all the time.
- 40:03Daniel Moore: It does.
- 40:05Michelle Moore: But cling to the Lord and let Him be your guide.
- 40:09Daniel Moore: Yeah.
- 40:10Daniel Moore: And don't push your spouse away.
- 40:12Michelle Moore: No.
- 40:12Daniel Moore: If they are truly having good intentional purposes to help you get through things, they grow in this also.
- 40:22Michelle Moore: And don't think you're a burden to them.
- 40:25Daniel Moore: Yes.
- 40:25Daniel Moore: Don't don't think that and those those of the spouses that are the supporting spouses don't make them feel like they're a burden.
- 40:32Michelle Moore: Well, and I think sometimes the enemy makes the person going through it feel like they're a burden to the one that's normal.
- 40:40Daniel Moore: Yeah.
- 40:40Daniel Moore: But what it comes down to is all the stuff that you've been through has helped me grow.
- 40:45Daniel Moore: It's created a stronger person relying on Christ and relying on my faith, just like you've been the one that went through it all.
- 40:53Daniel Moore: So you're stronger because you seen God work, absolutely.
- 40:57Daniel Moore: Gave you a whole new, you know, look, outlook on life.
- 41:01Daniel Moore: And he's given you a calling, some testimony now that can be shared to other people that's going through things to help them to realize that there is a light at the end of that tunnel.
- 41:10Daniel Moore: Yeah.
- 41:10Daniel Moore: Just rely on Christ and He'll get you through that.
- 41:13Daniel Moore: That's right.
- 41:13Daniel Moore: That's right.
- 41:14Daniel Moore: So make sure as spouses, you know, don't push each other away during those moments of trial.
- 41:19Daniel Moore: Come together and pray about things and figure out what's it gonna take for both of us to get through this.
- 41:24Daniel Moore: And what are the good things we're seeing in it?
- 41:26Daniel Moore: As that scripture says, count it joy because you know that tomorrow morning that, you know, the joy comes in the morning, things are gonna change.
- 41:33Daniel Moore: God's gonna make something good out of something bad, and you're gonna have a good testimony, and God's gonna make it work for the better in your relationship.
- 41:42Daniel Moore: So as we close this week, your testimony is often being written in the chapters that you wish you could skip.
- 41:49Daniel Moore: I know there's lots of things as we look back, we wish we'd never went through any of those.
- 41:53Daniel Moore: But God doesn't merely bring you through the fire, he brings you out stronger than when you entered it.
- 41:59Daniel Moore: And when God finishes what he's doing, you'll look back and realize that the season you thought would destroy you became the season that developed you.
- 42:07Daniel Moore: The season that almost broke your marriage became the season that strengthened it.
- 42:11Daniel Moore: The season that challenged your faith became the season that deepened it.
- 42:15Daniel Moore: Because that's what God does.
- 42:17Daniel Moore: He takes ashes and creates beauty, he takes pain and creates purpose.

- 44:02Daniel Moore: Well, as we wrap up this week, remember this powerful truth.
- 44:05Daniel Moore: The trials you're facing today are not proof that God has abandoned you.
- 44:09Daniel Moore: They may be evidence that he's still working in you.
- 44:12Daniel Moore: The enemy wants hardship to make you quit, shrink back, and question everything that God has spoken over your life.
- 44:19Daniel Moore: But throughout Scripture, we see a different story.
- 44:22Daniel Moore: Joseph's prison became the pathway to the palace.
- 44:25Daniel Moore: Paul's chains became the means through which God delivered some of the most influential letters ever written.
- 44:31Daniel Moore: Even the cross, which looked like defeat in the moment, became the greatest victory in history.
- 44:37Daniel Moore: The same God who worked through their suffering is still at work in yours.
- 44:41Daniel Moore: What feels like a setback may actually be God's setup.
- 44:45Daniel Moore: What feels like a detour may actually be the preparation.
- 44:49Daniel Moore: And what feels like the end of the story may simply be the beginning of a chapter you can't see yet.
- 44:55Daniel Moore: So, what do we do when life gets hard?
- 44:57Daniel Moore: Well, we keep showing up.
- 44:59Daniel Moore: We keep trusting, we keep praying, we keep loving our spouse when it's easier to withdraw.
- 45:05Daniel Moore: We keep believing God's promises when our circumstances seem to argue otherwise.
- 45:10Daniel Moore: So this week, take a few moments and ask yourself, what trial am I trying to escape that God may be trying to use?
- 45:16Daniel Moore: Then invite your spouse into that conversation.
- 45:19Daniel Moore: Pray together, share your hearts honestly, encourage one another with God's faithfulness.
- 45:25Daniel Moore: Don't waste your pain by running from it.
- 45:28Daniel Moore: Let God use it to strengthen your faith, refine your character, and deepen your marriage.
- 45:34Daniel Moore: Because one day you'll look back and realize that the season you wanted God to remove was the very season that He used to transform you.
- 45:41Daniel Moore: The fire wasn't sent to consume you, it was sent to refine you.
- 45:46Daniel Moore: And when God is finished, you'll discover that the trial you thought would break you became the testimony that revealed his faithfulness.
- 45:54Daniel Moore: Well, that's all for this week.
- 45:57Daniel Moore: We pray that your marriage is stronger and your walk with God is closer after this episode.
- 46:01Daniel Moore: This episode's recorded in the upper room at our Connecting the Gap Studios.
