Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Now live, this is Football at four.
- 0:04Speaker 2: My expectation is that he wants to be here. We
- 0:07Speaker 2: want him here. And man again.
- 0:09Speaker 3: Like I said, you know how, we said this in
- 0:11Speaker 3: an interview not too long ago.
- 0:12Speaker 2: It's like, it's hard to get good players.
- 0:14Speaker 3: We want as many good players as we possibly can
- 0:16Speaker 3: have on the team, especially a guy who was a
- 0:18Speaker 3: teammate and a person like Aja.
- 0:22Speaker 4: That was Nick Sirianni last NFL Network attempting to clarify
- 0:26Speaker 4: previous comments. Remember he couldn't guarantee anyone's future, when now
- 0:31Speaker 4: he says, well, it's not I ain't guaranteeing. Is that
- 0:33Speaker 4: we love to have him back. You want him here.
- 0:37Speaker 4: The Eagles continue to speak at NFL Calm by a
- 0:40Speaker 4: week to get more into the aftermath of Nick Sirianni
- 0:45Speaker 4: speaking what a concept?
- 0:46Speaker 5: Right, we got to react? Do we even have to react? Well?
- 0:49Speaker 4: Ast Jeff Mosher he joins us for Football at four,
- 0:52Speaker 4: power by the Inside the Birds podcast, Insidebirds dot Com
- 0:55Speaker 4: and Philly Voice. Jeff Mosher joins us now on ninety
- 0:58Speaker 4: seven to three ESPO and Jeff only in Philadelphia. Right,
- 1:03Speaker 4: do we have somebody make one comment and then need
- 1:06Speaker 4: to go and clarify said comment, how you doing that?
- 1:10Speaker 3: Seems to be happening with all the Philadelphia teams, right,
- 1:15Speaker 3: whether it's a reporter or whether a coach.
- 1:18Speaker 2: Yeah, it's been going on.
- 1:20Speaker 4: But it is interesting that, you know, and by the way,
- 1:23Speaker 4: that that's your buddy Garifala who had to sit down
- 1:26Speaker 4: with Sirianni last night on NFL Network and he's here
- 1:30Speaker 4: basket and he's like, look, would you would you like
- 1:32Speaker 4: to clarify this? And Sirianni is like, yeah, I'll clarify,
- 1:36Speaker 4: you know, but it was an interesting point that Sirianni
- 1:40Speaker 4: basically seeing what Adam Scheffer called the obvious Jeff motion
- 1:44Speaker 4: that like, you know, no one's future is guaranteed, turned
- 1:47Speaker 4: into look as Sirianni said about his job at A G. Brown,
- 1:51Speaker 4: and it's like, now you have these guys having to
- 1:54Speaker 4: come full circle and clarify that no one was saying
- 1:58Speaker 4: that Sirianni's on the hot seat. No one was saying
- 2:00Speaker 4: that AJ Brown is going tomorrow. Like it is pretty
- 2:04Speaker 4: impressive that, you know, one innocuous comment got turned into
- 2:08Speaker 4: a firestorm.
- 2:10Speaker 3: Okay, So just so that I'm caught up, Josh, because
- 2:12Speaker 3: you know, they do a lot Philly voice.
- 2:15Speaker 2: Where it's just not egle stuff.
- 2:17Speaker 3: Is there something Nick Sirianni said that's making the rounds
- 2:21Speaker 3: besides the fact that Aj Brown, I think that you know,
- 2:25Speaker 3: you always want to have good players. Was there some
- 2:28Speaker 3: self incriminating line that I might have missed?
- 2:31Speaker 4: So there was the article that came from Tim mcmannus
- 2:36Speaker 4: the morning of how we and Nick speaking, and then
- 2:40Speaker 4: Jeff McClain did the follow up on his stuff, basically
- 2:44Speaker 4: taking that I can't guarantee quote and basically it was amplified.
- 2:50Speaker 3: Yeah, I know what you're talking about now, just making
- 2:52Speaker 3: sure nothing in the last twenty minutes.
- 2:57Speaker 2: So let's yeah, let's circle it back to AJ Brown.
- 3:00Speaker 3: Okay, the personnel chief, Howie Roseman, and the head coach,
- 3:06Speaker 3: Nick Sirianni are now speaking in lockstep, right, They're now
- 3:09Speaker 3: almost You have a situation where Nick is parroting Howie
- 3:13Speaker 3: because how he gets the questions first, and he is
- 3:16Speaker 3: the face of the franchise in terms of building the roster.
- 3:20Speaker 3: Of course, my position and experience. So when you have
- 3:23Speaker 3: a situation where Howie's words are carefully cultivated, right, and
- 3:29Speaker 3: Nick starts to parrot it, well, I think to me
- 3:32Speaker 3: that that speaks to the obviousness of the situation, which
- 3:35Speaker 3: is that, yes, there's a a If there's a good
- 3:38Speaker 3: offer for a J. Brown, the team will trade him
- 3:42Speaker 3: for a variety of reasons that we've kind of beaten
- 3:44Speaker 3: to death over the last two weeks. But just take
- 3:47Speaker 3: out the name AJ Brown and insert like Jalen Hurts
- 3:52Speaker 3: or Jalen Carter right and see if you'd get the
- 3:56Speaker 3: same response.
- 3:57Speaker 2: Oh, well, we're trying to keep as many good players
- 4:00Speaker 2: as we have. It's hard to find good players.
- 4:01Speaker 3: No, if somebody said, hey, are you traded one of
- 4:03Speaker 3: those two guys right now, they'd be like no, they
- 4:07Speaker 3: would be definitive, and it would almost be met with
- 4:09Speaker 3: a little bit of like a look like why would
- 4:12Speaker 3: you even ask that?
- 4:13Speaker 2: So the Eagles are doing the.
- 4:16Speaker 3: Right thing, by the way, they're being very diplomatic about it.
- 4:20Speaker 3: They're making it sound as if, hey, it's hard to
- 4:22Speaker 3: get good players when we want AJ and the new
- 4:24Speaker 3: offensive coordinator you know, has got them in the plants. Sure, sure,
- 4:29Speaker 3: because there's always the chance that he could come back.
- 4:32Speaker 3: But it's not like they're bending over backwards to tell
- 4:35Speaker 3: you without a doubt, unequivocally AJ Brown would be an
- 4:39Speaker 3: Eagle and it's even silly to ask that question.
- 4:43Speaker 4: Well, it's also interesting the fact that you know, you
- 4:46Speaker 4: look at some other people look at it like myself,
- 4:48Speaker 4: which is and I'm not saying the Eagles actually care
- 4:51Speaker 4: about these things, but the perception is is that in
- 4:54Speaker 4: a city where the Phillies imploded the ability to unload
- 4:59Speaker 4: a toxic piece in Nick Cassiano's, the Eagles are doing
- 5:03Speaker 4: everything they can to maintain the pristine value.
- 5:07Speaker 5: If somebody calls with the right offer for a J Brown.
- 5:11Speaker 2: Yeah right, that's what you do?
- 5:13Speaker 4: You know?
- 5:13Speaker 3: And I think I heard you're saying this, and I
- 5:16Speaker 3: couldn't agree with you more about the difference between how
- 5:21Speaker 3: Nick Cassiano's kind of butchered his trade value and AJ Brown,
- 5:25Speaker 3: who has I know he made? I guess the New
- 5:28Speaker 3: England Patriots podcast thing made a lot of headlines.
- 5:30Speaker 2: I did, I didn't.
- 5:31Speaker 5: Yeah, see, can I jump in right quick?
- 5:33Speaker 4: That's an example of the Internet being a bunch of bleeps,
- 5:39Speaker 4: because if you actually watch and suffer through the forty minutes,
- 5:43Speaker 4: which I did and Nick Earnshaw did, we all lost
- 5:46Speaker 4: time out of our lives and brain cells watching that
- 5:48Speaker 4: stupid podcast. AJ Brown did not say it before making
- 5:53Speaker 4: it out to be it was. It was a tongue
- 5:55Speaker 4: in joke, tongue in cheek joke because for those who
- 5:58Speaker 4: don't know, A Brown grew up being a Julian Edelman fan.
- 6:02Speaker 5: That's one of the reason why he wears number eleven.
- 6:05Speaker 4: And so the whole joke was Edelman saying we're all Patriots, right,
- 6:10Speaker 4: you know, and then AJ Brown making a wink at
- 6:13Speaker 4: Edelman and then he immediately said I'm kidding, I'm kidding,
- 6:17Speaker 4: and a j Rroren even said, I know the internet is.
- 6:20Speaker 5: Now going to pick up pick this up.
- 6:21Speaker 4: Yeah, So, like you know, there there was a part
- 6:24Speaker 4: of it that was very, very innocuous.
- 6:26Speaker 5: But the Internet is the Internet, and they're idiots online.
- 6:30Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, listen AJ Brown when he wants to
- 6:32Speaker 3: make a statement talking to people on the internet, he
- 6:34Speaker 3: makes it pretty clear, like when he during the season
- 6:36Speaker 3: when he was playing the video games and you know,
- 6:38Speaker 3: calling things.
- 6:39Speaker 2: A bleep show and all that.
- 6:41Speaker 3: I also happen to watch in full the live podcast
- 6:45Speaker 3: he did with Michael Parsons and Bryce Young at the
- 6:47Speaker 3: Super Bowl, and I thought, again he was more of
- 6:51Speaker 3: a bystander in a lot of those conversations and an
- 6:54Speaker 3: active contributor. So yeah, we have a lot of I mean,
- 6:59Speaker 3: this whole will all happen very quickly, I imagine, because the
- 7:02Speaker 3: draft just sneaks up on you just like that. And
- 7:04Speaker 3: free agency is important. So we'll see, we'll see what
- 7:07Speaker 3: happens and see what the offer is. But you know,
- 7:09Speaker 3: as Adam Kaplan and I discussed on our recent you
- 7:12Speaker 3: Know podcast, we're doing free agency previews, both from an
- 7:15Speaker 3: Eagles lens and an NFL lens. We looked at the
- 7:18Speaker 3: wide receiver class, and there's more teams. You and I
- 7:22Speaker 3: could sit here and name seven teams right now, right
- 7:25Speaker 3: that if they had one wide receiver like AJ Brown,
- 7:28Speaker 3: you could you could envision them in the Super Bowl.
- 7:30Speaker 2: Right.
- 7:30Speaker 3: Some of them are real obvious, like the Bills, bang right, Okay,
- 7:33Speaker 3: right then and there the Texans. You know, there are
- 7:36Speaker 3: a couple of chargers. You could probably get to six
- 7:39Speaker 3: or seven. You can't find six or seven AJ Brown's
- 7:43Speaker 3: on the open market. You can find Mike Evans, and
- 7:47Speaker 3: you can find trying to think of the other name that.
- 7:51Speaker 2: Really jumped out, I mean.
- 7:54Speaker 3: Now, only Night Corre because right now you have no
- 7:55Speaker 3: idea what kind of shape he's in or when he's
- 7:58Speaker 3: going to be able to play in.
- 8:01Speaker 2: One second, I'll think of it.
- 8:02Speaker 3: But the point I was trying to make was, it's
- 8:05Speaker 3: just not a very deep class of those kind of
- 8:08Speaker 3: wide receivers game changers, right, who are going to make
- 8:12Speaker 3: it so much of a difference where you could say
- 8:15Speaker 3: that guy can put me in the super Bowl and
- 8:16Speaker 3: that's why there should be a market for a J.
- 8:19Speaker 2: Brown.
- 8:20Speaker 4: Yeah, and probably whatever team gets Mike Evans, that's probably
- 8:23Speaker 4: the same type of team that would be interested in
- 8:26Speaker 4: an AJ Brown because you could argue that Evans and
- 8:29Speaker 4: AJ Brown, while they're not the same age, they're the
- 8:32Speaker 4: position they play on the field is very similar in
- 8:35Speaker 4: most offenses.
- 8:37Speaker 2: Yes, true X, big physical receiver right correct. Correct. Wan
- 8:42Speaker 2: Dale Robinson's another good one.
- 8:43Speaker 3: He's a slot is a totally different type of right receiver,
- 8:46Speaker 3: but he's good enough with the year that he's coming
- 8:48Speaker 3: off in a bad Giants offense to say, hey, that
- 8:51Speaker 3: guy can probably sign up.
- 8:52Speaker 2: Well, will sign a multi year deal with a lot
- 8:55Speaker 2: of money attached to it.
- 8:57Speaker 4: The other thing that was interesting that came out of
- 9:00Speaker 4: the Sirianni Howie Roseman speaking to the media yesterday, at
- 9:03Speaker 4: least at least for me, Jeff was the emission that
- 9:07Speaker 4: you know, Sirianni and Rosemand as you mentioned, they're both
- 9:11Speaker 4: in lockstep here talking about the hiring of Sean Mannion
- 9:14Speaker 4: about saying how you know they went and interviewed a
- 9:16Speaker 4: lot of people and that you know, part of what
- 9:18Speaker 4: stood out about Mannion compared to some of the other
- 9:21Speaker 4: guys was the fact that Mannion was a guy who
- 9:24Speaker 4: basically came into the meeting with like literal examples of
- 9:27Speaker 4: like this is what I would do in these situations
- 9:31Speaker 4: with the offense, and Howie and Nick basically admitted that
- 9:34Speaker 4: that was one of one of the separators of him
- 9:38Speaker 4: versus some of the other guys.
- 9:40Speaker 3: Yeah, it's it's an interesting situation. You know, I get
- 9:45Speaker 3: when you when you don't get the guys.
- 9:47Speaker 2: You exactly want, And we know Mike McDaniel and.
- 9:50Speaker 3: Dable would have been guys that they they want. Then
- 9:55Speaker 3: you got to go with an extensive search and the
- 9:57Speaker 3: guy that you may have to take a chance on.
- 10:00Speaker 3: And you know, Nick said pretty clearly that he went
- 10:03Speaker 3: into it thinking he was gonna need and this is
- 10:07Speaker 3: very this is almost like a captain obvious statement, went
- 10:10Speaker 3: into it thinking like I'm gonna have to get a
- 10:12Speaker 3: guy who's.
- 10:12Speaker 2: Got some experienced play calling, and I think the argument
- 10:15Speaker 2: is still there to be made that he should have.
- 10:17Speaker 2: But nonetheless, you want to get the best guy that
- 10:20Speaker 2: you can.
- 10:20Speaker 3: And in that course of interviews, seventeen of them, I
- 10:25Speaker 3: believe he said yep. And then you add the extra
- 10:28Speaker 3: follow ups right that Sean Mannion stood out the most,
- 10:31Speaker 3: which speaks to Sean's presence and command to be able
- 10:35Speaker 3: to stand out. And I think that, you know, I
- 10:38Speaker 3: think that it could be a very good hire. I
- 10:40Speaker 3: think it's still a risk.
- 10:42Speaker 2: I think that.
- 10:44Speaker 3: They can say what they want, but I'm sure that
- 10:46Speaker 3: they wish that more proven guys would have given them
- 10:50Speaker 3: the opportunity to open, you know, just to least talk
- 10:53Speaker 3: to them. But that's not what happened, and it'll be
- 10:56Speaker 3: interesting to see what happens is coming year.
- 10:58Speaker 4: I mean, the only name for me, at least Jeff
- 11:01Speaker 4: that I was surprised that didn't, you know, get involved
- 11:05Speaker 4: in the in the conversation. For me, and I can't
- 11:08Speaker 4: speak for me, it was Frank right because he's now
- 11:10Speaker 4: the Offensiveuordia with the Jets, and that felt like a
- 11:14Speaker 4: very like natural marriage where basically It's like, you know,
- 11:17Speaker 4: Nick Foles and Kurt Warner and other guys have said
- 11:20Speaker 4: that basically Sirianni runs Frank Reich's offense. This is not
- 11:24Speaker 4: like Sirianni did come up with this offense on his own.
- 11:26Speaker 4: That if you're going to keep running Sirianni style, then
- 11:30Speaker 4: why not go to dude due to the offense, we
- 11:33Speaker 4: did the defense, right, go get the original.
- 11:35Speaker 1: Well, I mean, I think the whole point was to
- 11:37Speaker 1: not have Nick Sirianni's offense, right, I mean, yes, Jim
- 11:41Speaker 1: Bob Couter got a You're My Friend interview, and yes
- 11:45Speaker 1: there were some guys like for example Lsu Charlie Weis
- 11:50Speaker 1: Junior who you're not exactly sure how to characterize the
- 11:53Speaker 1: offense because he's never coached at the NFL level, But
- 11:56Speaker 1: I would say ninety five percent, you know, of at
- 12:00Speaker 1: least the interviews we knew about were West Coast offense,
- 12:04Speaker 1: but the Shanahan McVay style modernized West Coast offense, and
- 12:09Speaker 1: you know where Nick Syria and Frank is interesting too
- 12:13Speaker 1: because he's had different offenses that he's worked under, you know,
- 12:19Speaker 1: but he's not really been a play caller in a
- 12:20Speaker 1: whole lot of places and where he has been, he
- 12:23Speaker 1: hasn't been that good. So I imagined that that wouldn't
- 12:27Speaker 1: have gone over with the guys that you really got
- 12:30Speaker 1: to please, which are Jeffrey and Howie just leaning back
- 12:33Speaker 1: into a coaching buddy or someone who's been here and there,
- 12:38Speaker 1: as opposed to someone who's going to radically redesign and
- 12:41Speaker 1: refurbish what you do.
- 12:44Speaker 4: Jeff Moscher joined us for football and for Powered by
- 12:46Speaker 4: the Inside of the Bird podcasts Inside the Birds dot com.
- 12:49Speaker 4: If we get all of his work at Philly Voice,
- 12:52Speaker 4: and of course josh Any Phillia for Mike gill one
- 12:54Speaker 4: more day here on the ice of a three esp
- 12:56Speaker 4: and we can confirm now by the way, Jeff, as
- 12:59Speaker 4: you know, you only can confirm because someone put on
- 13:02Speaker 4: social media.
- 13:03Speaker 5: So once it's on social media, then it's real.
- 13:05Speaker 4: Oh of course, yeah, So of course, Mike, you'll put
- 13:08Speaker 4: on social media. So I've been feeling at liberty to
- 13:11Speaker 4: put it out to the wide world of sports.
- 13:14Speaker 2: Okay, Mike, you'll put it on the Internet.
- 13:17Speaker 3: Then it has to be either true or it happened
- 13:19Speaker 3: in Egypt and he was, you know, under the influence.
- 13:24Speaker 5: Although I will say, did you know that's an eight
- 13:26Speaker 5: hour difference.
- 13:29Speaker 3: I didn't because I've wanted to text him of your times,
- 13:32Speaker 3: and I thought to myself, I'm not sure if he's sleeping,
- 13:34Speaker 3: or if it's like six in the morning, or where
- 13:36Speaker 3: if it's at night.
- 13:37Speaker 2: And so I just decided not to.
- 13:39Speaker 3: Yeah, instead of going that, you know, I don't know,
- 13:42Speaker 3: Joshua would take three seconds to talk into my Google
- 13:46Speaker 3: search and say what time is it in Egypt right now?
- 13:48Speaker 2: I was like, forget it, He's not that important.
- 13:53Speaker 5: Well, it makes you feel anty better.
- 13:54Speaker 4: I didn't hear from him at all for like almost
- 13:56Speaker 4: three weeks, and he was apparently texting other people for
- 14:00Speaker 4: about three weeks. So apparently I'm not very important and
- 14:05Speaker 4: he's not very important to you, and everybody's just very
- 14:08Speaker 4: unimportant right now.
- 14:09Speaker 3: Well, I feel like there might have Maybe you've seen
- 14:12Speaker 3: a little pep in your step over the last three weeks,
- 14:13Speaker 3: so maybe there's some cause and effect in that you
- 14:16Speaker 3: don't have the boss up your butt all day.
- 14:17Speaker 4: You know, I am not going to act to like
- 14:23Speaker 4: having Mike gil here would not make my life easier
- 14:26Speaker 4: right now.
- 14:26Speaker 5: I'm just gonna put it that way, Okay.
- 14:28Speaker 2: All right, it's a very diplomatic statement of you.
- 14:31Speaker 5: No, it's just a realistic statement.
- 14:32Speaker 4: It's the fact that the blizzard is basically you whooped
- 14:35Speaker 4: my butt. And I've been living without an electricity, so
- 14:38Speaker 4: it's like, you know, my life has been very chaotic,
- 14:41Speaker 4: and it's like, you know, it would have been nice
- 14:44Speaker 4: if Mike gil would have been here where I could
- 14:46Speaker 4: have been like, you got this right?
- 14:49Speaker 3: Of course, of course you would be gone when there
- 14:52Speaker 3: would be three feet of snow on the ground.
- 14:54Speaker 2: It's just the way it works.
- 14:56Speaker 5: As one one person, you say, let's get it back
- 14:59Speaker 5: to the Eagles.
- 15:00Speaker 4: So the other comment that was made yesterday by you
- 15:03Speaker 4: know Howie at the media gathering was you know, he
- 15:07Speaker 4: did make an emphasis, Jeff about two positions on defense.
- 15:10Speaker 4: They are going to try to get some bodies more
- 15:14Speaker 4: in here, that being.
- 15:15Speaker 5: Defensive line and cornerback.
- 15:18Speaker 4: And I think it's interesting because they try to address
- 15:20Speaker 4: cornerback last year, remember, and it didn't really go as
- 15:23Speaker 4: they had hoped, right, They brought in a Dori Jackson,
- 15:26Speaker 4: They wanted to try a Hee Lee Ringo. They traded
- 15:28Speaker 4: for Ja Korea and Bennett and you know, Jackson was serviceable,
- 15:33Speaker 4: but he wasn't you know, he wasn't that great. So
- 15:36Speaker 4: you know, what can the Eagles learn from last year's
- 15:41Speaker 4: collection that didn't work out to maybe do better this
- 15:44Speaker 4: year at corner.
- 15:46Speaker 3: See I look at it differently, Josh and that yes
- 15:50Speaker 3: it didn't maybe it didn't.
- 15:51Speaker 2: Work out quote unquote the way they wanted it to.
- 15:54Speaker 3: But I also think it didn't hit nearly the rock
- 15:58Speaker 3: bottom that people expected it to with the Dori Jackson.
- 16:01Speaker 2: I mean you're correct.
- 16:02Speaker 3: I mean all throughout the season, all Howie Roseman did
- 16:05Speaker 3: was trying to get his hands on other corners not
- 16:07Speaker 3: named the Dory Jackson, right, But at the.
- 16:09Speaker 2: End of the day, they didn't. You know, they didn't
- 16:12Speaker 2: lose because of a Dori Jackson.
- 16:13Speaker 3: I mean, the defense certainly didn't do its part against
- 16:17Speaker 3: the Niners. I think that they were asked to carry
- 16:19Speaker 3: the load quite a bit. But you needn't come out
- 16:21Speaker 3: of that game saying, man, Dori Jackson cost them the game.
- 16:25Speaker 3: I mean, in fact, the big play that they had
- 16:27Speaker 3: in the first quarter of Jennings I think was Quinnon
- 16:30Speaker 3: Mitchell having a rare mess up in coverage.
- 16:32Speaker 2: If I'm not.
- 16:32Speaker 3: Mistaken, you remember that play on the left side where
- 16:36Speaker 3: it kind of there was a pass and Mitchell slipped
- 16:38Speaker 3: a little bit and then Jennings broke free for like
- 16:40Speaker 3: a sixty five.
- 16:41Speaker 2: Yard or something like that. Pretty sure that was on Quinnon.
- 16:46Speaker 3: So I think the lesson is to continue to have options,
- 16:50Speaker 3: to continue to give yourself guys.
- 16:52Speaker 2: I mean that it's hard.
- 16:53Speaker 3: They're not gonna I don't see them using a first
- 16:55Speaker 3: round pick, and I don't see.
- 16:56Speaker 2: Them going heavy spending in free agency.
- 16:59Speaker 3: On a owner because you have Quinnon, Mitchell, and you
- 17:02Speaker 3: have what's his face, you have a Cooper de Gene,
- 17:05Speaker 3: and you're in base defense thirty percent of the time
- 17:08Speaker 3: twenty five percent time, So why are you gonna go
- 17:10Speaker 3: put a lot.
- 17:11Speaker 2: Of investment into a guy who's not even on the
- 17:13Speaker 2: field for the entire time.
- 17:16Speaker 3: Okay, So I just think that maybe they keep taking
- 17:21Speaker 3: taking swings of the bat that you say, or throwing
- 17:24Speaker 3: darts and trying. If you get someone who's twenty percent
- 17:26Speaker 3: better than Dori Jackson, then your defense overall is a
- 17:29Speaker 3: little bit better. And by the end of the year,
- 17:30Speaker 3: I think we all thought the Eagles defense was pretty good.
- 17:33Speaker 4: A couple more comments from high Roseman yesterday when we
- 17:36Speaker 4: hit on with Jeff Muscher today on football at four
- 17:38Speaker 4: on Nice have a three Esmo's Jeff P. Musher on
- 17:41Speaker 4: the X platform to give him a file there for
- 17:43Speaker 4: all of his Eagles coverage with ITB and with Philly
- 17:47Speaker 4: voice perfection.
- 17:49Speaker 2: What's that just to let you know, P for perfection,
- 17:51Speaker 2: to let you know.
- 17:52Speaker 3: Okay, me not perfect That was not impressive, Okay, I.
- 17:58Speaker 4: Mean it was probably land better if it wasn't me
- 18:01Speaker 4: on the outside of the microphone, because Mike Galer probably
- 18:04Speaker 4: had some sort of pithy response.
- 18:06Speaker 2: He would No, he.
- 18:07Speaker 3: Would have ripped me to to you know what if
- 18:09Speaker 3: I had said that to him.
- 18:11Speaker 5: Yeah. Meanwhile, I just whistle and wave it. I'm just
- 18:13Speaker 5: like whatever, Yeah, exactly.
- 18:16Speaker 4: Definitely a reflection of our personalities, right for sure.
- 18:21Speaker 5: But back to Howie, back to the Eagles.
- 18:24Speaker 4: How we mentioned two players specifically he was asked about
- 18:27Speaker 4: yesterday I thought was very interesting his answers. Let's start
- 18:30Speaker 4: with the first one, Jalen Phillips. You know how he
- 18:32Speaker 4: mentioned that he's a perfect fit for Fangio system, about
- 18:36Speaker 4: how he's a great fit in the locker room.
- 18:38Speaker 5: It really sounded like.
- 18:39Speaker 4: The Eagles are going to prioritize trying to bring back
- 18:43Speaker 4: Jillen Phillips and frankly, Jeff, I'm glad they are because
- 18:47Speaker 4: outside of Jalx Hunt in three games for Jillen Phillips,
- 18:51Speaker 4: their past rush was basically Moro joemo, Jordan Davis and nothing.
- 18:56Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean he fits the defense. They're going to
- 18:58Speaker 3: prioritize it for sure, Josh. The only thing is, you know,
- 19:03Speaker 3: and again, when you're gonna look at the edge rushers
- 19:06Speaker 3: or free agency, and the first thing you're gonna say
- 19:08Speaker 3: is uh oh, because if you're as good as Jalen
- 19:10Speaker 3: Phillips is that there's a lot.
- 19:12Speaker 2: Of teams with money to spend.
- 19:14Speaker 3: Man, there's a lot of teams who are ready to
- 19:15Speaker 3: reset the market that at certain positions, and edge rusher
- 19:20Speaker 3: is one of them.
- 19:20Speaker 2: So at some point the Eagles have to.
- 19:24Speaker 3: They got to be able to do this under good
- 19:26Speaker 3: terms for both them and the player. It can't just
- 19:29Speaker 3: be one of those we're gonna pay you fifteen million
- 19:31Speaker 3: per year more. They can't go all Patriots Milton Williams
- 19:35Speaker 3: on Jalen Phillips, Right. So that's what's gonna make this
- 19:38Speaker 3: sort of a fascinating negotiation.
- 19:41Speaker 2: I think some of it will have to deal with
- 19:43Speaker 2: Jaalen Phillips.
- 19:44Speaker 3: Do you want to be the richest edge in the
- 19:46Speaker 3: NFL and maybe go play for the Raiders, or do
- 19:49Speaker 3: you want to be a really really rich edge in
- 19:52Speaker 3: the NFL and have a chance to win a Super Bowl.
- 19:55Speaker 2: It may come down to that.
- 19:57Speaker 4: Well, I think it does help that he's nothing number
- 19:59Speaker 4: one need on edge rusher. I think that does at
- 20:02Speaker 4: least help in the Eagles keeper right is the fact
- 20:04Speaker 4: that the number one name would be Tray Hendrickson, and
- 20:08Speaker 4: I feel pretty comfortable saying that Hendrickson is probably going
- 20:11Speaker 4: to get something substantial in the market he is.
- 20:14Speaker 2: It's an interesting one. Hendrickson, I believe, is older. Yes,
- 20:19Speaker 2: you can check me out.
- 20:19Speaker 5: He's three years older. Let me double check.
- 20:21Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, so he's three years older.
- 20:24Speaker 3: So I don't know that the type of contracts both
- 20:26Speaker 3: of them are going to get are going to be similar. Now,
- 20:29Speaker 3: Phillips has the injury history that'll work against him, so
- 20:33Speaker 3: he'll sort of be treated like an older player because
- 20:35Speaker 3: he'll be treated like a player with an injury history.
- 20:38Speaker 2: But again, all it.
- 20:39Speaker 3: Takes is a couple of teams to be say I
- 20:41Speaker 3: don't care. I saw his last six games with the Eagles.
- 20:43Speaker 3: He look very healthy, look productive. He can come to
- 20:46Speaker 3: our team and dominate. So you know, obviously he's more
- 20:50Speaker 3: aligned to get a longer term money, which is going
- 20:53Speaker 3: to be a longer term deal, which will come a
- 20:55Speaker 3: lot of money.
- 20:55Speaker 5: By the way, four years, it's almost a four year difference.
- 20:58Speaker 4: Phillips is going to be turning twenty seven soon and
- 21:01Speaker 4: Hendrickson is thirty one.
- 21:04Speaker 2: Yeah, so I think that does make it, so I don't.
- 21:07Speaker 3: I mean, if you want to say that Hendrickson's the
- 21:09Speaker 3: number one free agent edge because of his production and
- 21:12Speaker 3: what he's accomplished, sure, but that's not always the criteria.
- 21:17Speaker 3: You know, a couple of years ago, Adam and I
- 21:19Speaker 3: went to the Combine and we were talking.
- 21:20Speaker 2: About who was the guard? Was it maybe Sam Alu right?
- 21:24Speaker 3: And we heard from a couple of different teams that
- 21:27Speaker 3: he was their number one guard on the board, But
- 21:29Speaker 3: he didn't get number one. In fact, he got a
- 21:31Speaker 3: one year deal right from the Steelers, miss Steeler call
- 21:35Speaker 3: right from the Steelers because he had a significant injury history.
- 21:39Speaker 3: So he wasn't treated like the number one guy because
- 21:42Speaker 3: of that. So we'll have to see how it works
- 21:44Speaker 3: with Hendrickson and with Phillips' injury injuries history.
- 21:47Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean I would say that you've be here.
- 21:50Speaker 4: The list I'm looking at is is Trey Hendrickson, it's
- 21:53Speaker 4: a dfe Aweya, it's Quitty Pay, it's Joey Bosa, it's
- 22:00Speaker 4: uh Joseph Asai, it's a Chase On from the Patriots
- 22:05Speaker 4: Leonard Floyd while he's still hanging around.
- 22:07Speaker 2: I want Chase On. He had a really nice bounce
- 22:10Speaker 2: back here.
- 22:10Speaker 3: I mean, that would be very interesting to see if
- 22:12Speaker 3: the Patriots can bring him back at a good number.
- 22:14Speaker 4: By the way, Chase On and Phillips were almost the
- 22:16Speaker 4: exact same age. How about that.
- 22:18Speaker 3: Yeah, Yeah, just took Chase On a longer time to
- 22:21Speaker 3: get to where where he's at.
- 22:24Speaker 2: Oh.
- 22:24Speaker 4: Absolutely, he he was a very very slow to get there.
- 22:27Speaker 5: But that was also because of the defense he was
- 22:29Speaker 5: drafted into. And we all know how that that functions
- 22:32Speaker 5: as well. Look at Brandon Graham, look at his career.
- 22:34Speaker 2: Right, good point.
- 22:36Speaker 4: Finally, if I let you go the Dallas Goddard comment,
- 22:38Speaker 4: I asked, I want to ask you about I asked
- 22:40Speaker 4: Kaptain about Lewis yesterday, but I want to ask you
- 22:42Speaker 4: as well. Howie Roseman said, Hey, we are going to
- 22:45Speaker 4: be talking with Dallas Goddard's agent in the next few days.
- 22:49Speaker 4: And then he expressed their interest to bring him back,
- 22:51Speaker 4: which of course they're interested to bring him back.
- 22:52Speaker 5: Yeah, eleven touchdowns last year.
- 22:54Speaker 4: But my fuck, a little nugget there was we are
- 22:56Speaker 4: going to be talking to him right here in Indianapolis
- 22:59Speaker 4: in the next few days. I thought that little nugget
- 23:01Speaker 4: from how I was interesting.
- 23:03Speaker 2: Spoiler alert. They're talking to every single agent in the
- 23:06Speaker 2: next few days, and I mean, that's that's just what happens, Josh.
- 23:10Speaker 3: I mean, I get why that would stick out to you,
- 23:13Speaker 3: but the reality is they're gonna talk to every agent
- 23:17Speaker 3: and having a conversation doesn't matter. It's the numbers that
- 23:21Speaker 3: are exchanged in the conversation that matter. So I think,
- 23:25Speaker 3: I think this one's really interesting to me. This one's
- 23:28Speaker 3: fifty to fifty, right, because this is a player who, again,
- 23:33Speaker 3: when healthy, is very talented.
- 23:35Speaker 2: And he's not that old either, right. I mean, he's
- 23:39Speaker 2: got good years left.
- 23:40Speaker 3: So you could absolutely see a competitive team saying, hey,
- 23:45Speaker 3: if I get Dallas Goddard on a three year deal
- 23:47Speaker 3: for whatever, you know, pretty good money, he's really gonna
- 23:51Speaker 3: help me.
- 23:52Speaker 2: And that could price the egos out.
- 23:53Speaker 3: But you could also see team saying, you know, drafts
- 23:58Speaker 3: full of tight ends this year year.
- 24:00Speaker 2: You know, last year's draft had a bunch of tight ends.
- 24:03Speaker 2: He's got an injury history.
- 24:06Speaker 3: I'll give him a two year deal with maybe just
- 24:08Speaker 3: a little money in year two because I'm worried about it.
- 24:10Speaker 3: In that case, the Eagles can do the same thing,
- 24:12Speaker 3: match it and bring them back, so that one is
- 24:16Speaker 3: a total chess match.
- 24:17Speaker 2: It'll be very, very interesting.
- 24:19Speaker 3: And as we say, with every body, every position free agency,
- 24:23Speaker 3: all it takes is one team to do to go
- 24:28Speaker 3: where others won't.
- 24:30Speaker 4: Yeah, especially when it comes to a player who is
- 24:34Speaker 4: at kind of a weird spot in his career. But
- 24:35Speaker 4: he had an injury history, and then last year it
- 24:37Speaker 4: was the first time it's been legitimately healthy for most.
- 24:40Speaker 3: Of the year, right, right, And in some cases it's
- 24:43Speaker 3: about contracts. If someone signs Dallas Goddard and guarantees money
- 24:47Speaker 3: in year three of a three year deal, which I
- 24:50Speaker 3: don't think. I don't know if that'll happen, but let's
- 24:52Speaker 3: just I'm just hypothetically saying that's going to scare off
- 24:56Speaker 3: a lot of teas and it might even scare off
- 24:57Speaker 3: the EU. I can't be you know, we can't carry
- 25:00Speaker 3: to you money three years down the road, you know,
- 25:01Speaker 3: with all the games that you've missed, and we just
- 25:04Speaker 3: made you or asked you to take a pay cut
- 25:06Speaker 3: that you agreed to. So but teams that can do
- 25:09Speaker 3: that are teams that are well under the cap because
- 25:11Speaker 3: they've stunned for a while and they're trying
- 25:14Speaker 2: To build back up, and they're willing to play that
- 25:15Speaker 2: leverage game.
