- Lucas: Welcome back to Learn Amharic with Fexingo! I'm Lucas. Luna: And I'm Luna. Episode 14 – can you believe it? Lucas: I know, time flies. Today we're going to talk about family. Luna: Oh, I love that. Family words are so useful. Lucas: Absolutely. Let's start with the first word: እናት. That means 'mother'. Luna: እናት. Mother. Lucas: Good. Say it with me: እናት. Luna: እናት. Lucas: Perfect. Now the next one: አባት. That's 'father'. Luna: አባት. Father. Lucas: Exactly. አባት. Luna: አባት. Lucas: Now let's put them together. እናት እና አባት – mother and father. Luna: እናት እና አባት. Lucas: Great. Now let's move to siblings. The word for 'brother' is ወንድም. Luna: ወንድም. Brother. Lucas: Yes. And 'sister' is እህት. Luna: እህት. Sister. Lucas: Good. Let's review all four: እናት, አባት, ወንድም, እህት. Luna: እናት, አባት, ወንድም, እህት. Lucas: Excellent. Now let's use them in a simple sentence. Remember how to say 'my'? It's የኔ. Luna: Oh right, from earlier episodes. የኔ. Lucas: So 'my mother' is የኔ እናት. Luna: የኔ እናት. Lucas: And 'my father' is የኔ አባት. Luna: የኔ አባት. Lucas: Now let's practice. Imagine I ask you, 'ስምህ ማን ነው?' – What's your name? And you can answer with your name, but also add a family word. For example, 'ስሜ ሉና ነው። ይህች የኔ እናት ናት.' But that's a bit long. Let's start simpler. Luna: Okay. How about just 'የኔ እናት'? Lucas: Perfect. Now let's try a mini dialogue. I'll say: 'ይህች ማን ናት?' – Who is this? And you say: 'የኔ እናት ናት.' – She is my mother. Luna: የኔ እናት ናት. Lucas: Great. Let's do one more. I'll say: 'ይህ ማን ነው?' – Who is this?. You say: 'የኔ አባት ነው.' – He is my father. Luna: የኔ አባት ነው. Lucas: Excellent. Now let's add brother and sister. 'ይህ ወንድም ነው?' – Is this a brother? You can say: 'አዎ, የኔ ወንድም ነው.' – Yes, he is my brother. Luna: አዎ, የኔ ወንድም ነው. Lucas: And for sister: 'ይህች እህት ናት?' – Is this a sister? Answer: 'አዎ, የኔ እህት ናት.' – Yes, she is my sister. Luna: አዎ, የኔ እህት ናት. Lucas: Awesome. Let's do a quick review of all the phrases we learned today. Luna: Sure. First: እናት. Lucas: Mother. Luna: አባት. Lucas: Father. Luna: ወንድም. Lucas: Brother. Luna: እህት. Lucas: Sister. And we also practiced 'የኔ' – my. So 'የኔ እናት' is my mother, 'የኔ አባት' is my father, and so on. Luna: Right. And we used 'ነው' and 'ናት' for 'is' when talking about a man or a woman. Lucas: Exactly. That's a little grammar sneak peek. But don't worry, we'll cover more later. Luna: I'm feeling good about family words now. I'll practice by describing my own family. Lucas: That's the spirit! Remember, you can always go back and listen again. Repetition is your friend. Luna: Thanks, Lucas. And thanks to all our listeners. Keep practicing with Fexingo. Lucas: See you next time for more Amharic. ደህና ሁን! Luna: ደህና ሁን!
