- 1:47Speaker 5: A good one joins us right down studio. Good morning,
- 1:49Speaker 5: welcome to the show.
- 1:50Speaker 3: Good morning, I'm ready.
- 1:52Speaker 5: Is there something going on this week?
- 1:53Speaker 3: I'm ready.
- 1:54Speaker 5: There's something some little little boat parade.
- 1:56Speaker 4: Or something going on.
- 1:56Speaker 3: The stretching. We've been stretching, hydrating.
- 2:00Speaker 5: And getting ready, getting ready. I got to ask you
- 2:02Speaker 5: what's the deal with the friendship bracelet?
- 2:04Speaker 6: Here?
- 2:04Speaker 3: Heyah, thank you, I'm so glad.
- 2:06Speaker 7: Well, first of all, it says, I don't know if
- 2:08Speaker 7: you can see it from there, it says Regatta on it.
- 2:12Speaker 7: So last year I had we started an entrepreneurs a
- 2:16Speaker 7: youth slash kids entrepreneur market of kids around the area
- 2:23Speaker 7: who were starting businesses making friendship bracelets, bath bombs, soaps,
- 2:29Speaker 7: ear rings, and so last year I went to one
- 2:33Speaker 7: of the vendors and she's nine, and I said, I
- 2:37Speaker 7: love those, and I bought one.
- 2:40Speaker 3: And then this sheear so many kids saw me out
- 2:44Speaker 3: and said, oh, can I have one? Can I have one?
- 2:46Speaker 7: Because I bought a couple kept giving them away. And
- 2:49Speaker 7: so this year I pre ordered one hundred, paid for
- 2:54Speaker 7: out of my own pocket, happy to support young entrepreneurs,
- 2:58Speaker 7: one hundred Regatta French bracelets, and I'm going to give
- 3:01Speaker 7: away twenty five every day. So if you see me
- 3:05Speaker 7: as you can ask for one for you. I'm not
- 3:07Speaker 7: me of course. Kids, if you're under the age you're
- 3:10Speaker 7: under the age of eighteen really sixteen, you can ask
- 3:13Speaker 7: me for one and I'll give you one. I mean
- 3:15Speaker 7: as they will supplies last. Everyone while supplies last.
- 3:19Speaker 3: I see TJ medows me eyeball, he wants one.
- 3:22Speaker 7: Wait a second, you can't reserve them you have to
- 3:25Speaker 7: see me at Regatta. You have to physically see me,
- 3:27Speaker 7: and I will have them on my on my wrists.
- 3:30Speaker 5: All right, So what's new at Regatta this year? We're
- 3:32Speaker 5: going to be talking a lot about Regatta. Of course.
- 3:34Speaker 5: I think you're going to be on talk Line today.
- 3:37Speaker 5: You're also going to be the mayor of Monday.
- 3:39Speaker 3: I've been here for an hour and a half and
- 3:42Speaker 3: then you're.
- 3:42Speaker 5: Coming back up with the full We've got to show
- 3:44Speaker 5: with the with the Amy Breedlove, who's going to be
- 3:46Speaker 5: co hosting. We're going to be hosting for me on Thursday.
- 3:48Speaker 5: I'll be off on Thursday, but so we've got plenty
- 3:52Speaker 5: of time to get stuff in. But I do want
- 3:53Speaker 5: to ask you what's new?
- 3:54Speaker 3: Thank you?
- 3:55Speaker 7: There's two things that are new. I'll go I'll go
- 3:57Speaker 7: forward before I go backwards. So we have a group
- 4:00Speaker 7: coming called Fluidity, And the only way I can describe
- 4:04Speaker 7: them is that they're an aerial circus, so laggy type
- 4:08Speaker 7: of thing.
- 4:08Speaker 3: They fly in the air.
- 4:09Speaker 7: They're on these ribbons and strings and they do flips
- 4:11Speaker 7: and turns and that will be starting on Friday at
- 4:16Speaker 7: City Center at Slack Plaza. Very very cool. They're doing workshops.
- 4:20Speaker 7: They start at one thirty. They're also going to be
- 4:22Speaker 7: in the funeral parade, so check Charleston Regatta dot com
- 4:26Speaker 7: for the latest schedule in the details.
- 4:28Speaker 3: So that's new.
- 4:29Speaker 7: The other thing that's new, and it's really cool. You know,
- 4:31Speaker 7: when you think about the regatta, you go back in
- 4:33Speaker 7: your brain and think about, oh, this is what I love,
- 4:35Speaker 7: this is what I love, and the pieces of a
- 4:38Speaker 7: history that you've taken from there, well, it is so interesting.
- 4:40Speaker 7: When I became mayor seven years ago, when I brought
- 4:43Speaker 7: the regatta back four years ago, people started sending me
- 4:46Speaker 7: things just hey, I had this hand painted basket purse
- 4:51Speaker 7: that had sternwheelers, Stern Wheelers hand painted all over it,
- 4:55Speaker 7: and I want you to have it since you brought
- 4:57Speaker 7: back with regatta. Well, I can't take gifts, so I
- 4:59Speaker 7: started a collection of all of old regatta memorabilia. So
- 5:04Speaker 7: we are having a regatta through the year's exhibit at
- 5:08Speaker 7: the four point Share ten. It starts noon on Thursday.
- 5:11Speaker 7: Every day you can go through the exhibit. So people
- 5:14Speaker 7: have sent me handstitched wrap skirts. I mean, ladies, think
- 5:18Speaker 7: of the seventies, right, didn't everybody have you know, needle
- 5:21Speaker 7: point you know those great rap skirts with a twisty
- 5:24Speaker 7: tie around the top, and posters and r Sea bottles
- 5:28Speaker 7: and Doctor Pepper when they sponsored, and hats and shirts
- 5:31Speaker 7: and pins and everything that you can think of from
- 5:33Speaker 7: the Charleston Sturno Regatta.
- 5:34Speaker 3: That is new.
- 5:36Speaker 7: But what is not new is the things that we
- 5:39Speaker 7: love about the regatta. My favorite you know this, you
- 5:42Speaker 7: know it's my favorite of funeral parade. I dig a parade.
- 5:45Speaker 7: I love the funeral parade. I always have my costume
- 5:49Speaker 7: this year. Some of our youth who are interning in
- 5:53Speaker 7: our art department this year helped me.
- 5:55Speaker 3: Put it together this year. And I took a picture.
- 5:58Speaker 7: By the way, the funeral prede is sponsored by Marti
- 6:00Speaker 7: Gras Casino and we love them there.
- 6:03Speaker 3: They do they do a great, great job.
- 6:06Speaker 7: And so they went with that theme and I took
- 6:09Speaker 7: a picture of myself in part of my costume and
- 6:11Speaker 7: my sister to my sister, and my sister responded, you
- 6:15Speaker 7: kind of look like Elton John's sister. Lots of lots
- 6:20Speaker 7: of big glasses, lots of feathers. Some fired up about it.
- 6:23Speaker 3: I'm really fired.
- 6:24Speaker 5: So you're talking about like the early to mid seventies
- 6:26Speaker 5: Elton John right with.
- 6:28Speaker 7: Yeah, lots of beads, lots of feathers, lots of fun,
- 6:31Speaker 7: lots of tinted shaded sunglasses. I'll be passing away those
- 6:35Speaker 7: as well. I bought me personally, I bought a whole
- 6:38Speaker 7: bunch because I love this is what I love about
- 6:40Speaker 7: the Charleston Storm.
- 6:41Speaker 3: Obgot and we brought it back.
- 6:43Speaker 7: And when I was running how many seven years ago,
- 6:46Speaker 7: people said I want you to do this, this, this,
- 6:49Speaker 7: you know, some were different responses of what they wanted
- 6:51Speaker 7: to focus on, without question, without fail, bring.
- 6:53Speaker 3: Back the regatta period.
- 6:54Speaker 7: It was always because people love the Charleston Storm, Rover good.
- 6:59Speaker 7: And it's not because of the music. And it's not
- 7:03Speaker 7: just because of the great food or the carnival or
- 7:04Speaker 7: the funeral parade or the Winnowdall races or the duck
- 7:07Speaker 7: you drop. It's because of time spent together. And by
- 7:11Speaker 7: the way, it's not just that our businesses said we
- 7:15Speaker 7: need it. We need it, just like our Christmas parade.
- 7:19Speaker 7: When I wanted to make it in the evening, they
- 7:20Speaker 7: were like, yes, because it is an economic driver. I
- 7:24Speaker 7: mean little did Nelson Jones in nineteen seventy one when
- 7:29Speaker 7: he begged the mayor Mayor Hutchinson at the time, Please
- 7:33Speaker 7: let's race those boats out there. He's a you know,
- 7:36Speaker 7: eleven year old kid. Please raise those boats. Wouldn't it
- 7:38Speaker 7: be fun? That's how it started. By the way, in
- 7:42Speaker 7: the nineteen seventy or early nineteen seventy seventy one, did
- 7:46Speaker 7: he know that it would grow to a two day
- 7:48Speaker 7: festival then to what it is today. I mean, we
- 7:52Speaker 7: bring in, we're getting ready to host one of the
- 7:55Speaker 7: largest events in the Tri State area, largest in the state,
- 7:57Speaker 7: a quarter of a million people and thirty eight plus
- 8:01Speaker 7: million dollar economic impact. What does economic impact mean? When
- 8:05Speaker 7: people hear this, they say, what are you going to
- 8:07Speaker 7: do with the thirty eight million? Aiming and not mine?
- 8:10Speaker 7: I don't get the city doesn't get thirty eight million, Dave,
- 8:13Speaker 7: it is. And you know this through your interviews and
- 8:16Speaker 7: through your life and government and tour and your knowledge
- 8:20Speaker 7: of tourism. It goes to exactly what a mayor wants
- 8:24Speaker 7: the money to go to small businesses, hotels, restaurants, shops, bars,
- 8:30Speaker 7: and all of our vendors who are there, who are
- 8:34Speaker 7: mostly local folks. So that's where I want that money
- 8:37Speaker 7: to go, and that's where it does. And so a
- 8:39Speaker 7: lot of history, a lot of news stuff, a lot
- 8:41Speaker 7: of old stuff. But what is the same as great
- 8:44Speaker 7: connection with people doing great things.
- 8:47Speaker 5: And of course you know you could focus do a
- 8:49Speaker 5: great job on social media and on the websites whatever.
- 8:52Speaker 5: So I mean, we're not going to go and list
- 8:54Speaker 5: everything that's going on. Our best thing you can do
- 8:56Speaker 5: is probably just go, you know and check it out
- 8:59Speaker 5: seeing see exact.
- 9:00Speaker 7: Yeah, Charleston, Charleston regatta dot com or you know this, Dave.
- 9:03Speaker 7: Anybody can call me three four eight eight one seven
- 9:06Speaker 7: four three eight one seven four I will personally run
- 9:09Speaker 7: down the list. You know, Josh Pantry and Carly Pierce
- 9:11Speaker 7: is on Thursday. It's Big Country Night.
- 9:13Speaker 3: My favorite.
- 9:14Speaker 7: Sorry, And you're not supposed to have favorites, like picking children,
- 9:17Speaker 7: You're not supposed to have favorites. Casey and the Sunshine Band.
- 9:20Speaker 7: My sister and I, with our satin jackets in our basement,
- 9:24Speaker 7: used to make up routines and dances to Casey and
- 9:28Speaker 7: the Sunshine dance. This is last year, r this was
- 9:30Speaker 7: last year, right, Listen. I'm at this time in my life.
- 9:33Speaker 7: I would totally do it right now. Come up with
- 9:35Speaker 7: a routine with my sister. The Velvet Brothers are opening
- 9:38Speaker 7: for Casey and the Sunshine ban on Friday. Shalem who's
- 9:42Speaker 7: so cool local artists, He's wonderful. And Busta Rhymes, who
- 9:46Speaker 7: I keep calling mister mister Busta in the office and
- 9:50Speaker 7: the young people in the office, You're like, may I
- 9:52Speaker 7: please don't do that?
- 9:52Speaker 5: Yeah, please don't do don't do that.
- 9:54Speaker 7: And then Sunday of the Dell really cool West Virginia Band,
- 9:57Speaker 7: and then Jefferson Starship on Sunday.
- 9:59Speaker 5: And I've told the story on the air before about
- 10:02Speaker 5: Casey in the Sunshine Band. Of course, you know you
- 10:04Speaker 5: and I are roughly the same age. I have a
- 10:05Speaker 5: couple of years on you a little bit. But you
- 10:08Speaker 5: know they were all the rage when we were in
- 10:10Speaker 5: grade school, and a couple of years ago I saw
- 10:14Speaker 5: them in concert. It was more my wife wanted to
- 10:16Speaker 5: go than me, but but I but I went. Uh
- 10:20Speaker 5: And I have to say, even though I'm not I'm
- 10:22Speaker 5: not a disco guy, I will say this, that's one
- 10:26Speaker 5: of the best five concerts I ever saw in my life.
- 10:28Speaker 3: They're just so entertaining.
- 10:29Speaker 5: They played for two and a half hours, and Casey's
- 10:33Speaker 5: not young Harry Win, Casey is in his early seventies.
- 10:36Speaker 5: That's right, doesn't quite look like he did them. But
- 10:38Speaker 5: he's also not on drugs anymore.
- 10:40Speaker 3: And I can't fit in my satin jacket I used to.
- 10:43Speaker 5: But it's one of the most entertaining shows I ever saw.
- 10:45Speaker 5: I mean, if you want to go see a big
- 10:47Speaker 5: spectacle come Friday night with all the dancer I mean,
- 10:51Speaker 5: even without Casey, I mean everybody, the dancing, and the
- 10:54Speaker 5: and the and and all different kinds of me. They
- 10:56Speaker 5: did everything. In addition to all their hits, which are
- 10:58Speaker 5: about twenty, they also did prints, they did Motown a
- 11:03Speaker 5: little bit. It's one of the best concerts you will
- 11:05Speaker 5: ever see, whether you like the music or not. And
- 11:07Speaker 5: can we forget Casey in the Sunshine band is an
- 11:10Speaker 5: actual band. Unliked a lot of the disco music that
- 11:12Speaker 5: we manufactured. They're an actual kick butt band. I mean,
- 11:16Speaker 5: they are awesome. So do you all The music is great,
- 11:19Speaker 5: do yourself a favor to goo and go check out
- 11:22Speaker 5: Casey in the Sunshine.
- 11:23Speaker 7: I'm really excited about it, really excited about it. And
- 11:26Speaker 7: Mother and Nature. While she has turned up the heat, Dave,
- 11:29Speaker 7: humidity is going to be down. The sun's going to
- 11:31Speaker 7: be out, so please hydrate. Lots of sunscreen, lots of sunscreen,
- 11:34Speaker 7: lots of sunscreen. It's going to be a beautiful week, gorgeous,
- 11:38Speaker 7: gorgeous week. And you know one thing that the Charleston
- 11:40Speaker 7: stern Will Regatta really doesn't get a lot of attention
- 11:44Speaker 7: or talk about, but we have watched the crowd grow
- 11:47Speaker 7: every single year. Or the reason why the Charleston Sternwell
- 11:50Speaker 7: Regatta started the boat races, so Stern wheelers and the
- 11:55Speaker 7: boats are absolutely just beautiful, beautiful.
- 12:00Speaker 3: And beautiful ships.
- 12:01Speaker 7: Just look at and how they were built and why
- 12:03Speaker 7: they were built and the history behind them. We have
- 12:06Speaker 7: a boat here that al Capone played on, you know,
- 12:09Speaker 7: cards in the middle of the night, and we've lots
- 12:12Speaker 7: of great history around it. And they're sweet people who
- 12:15Speaker 7: own and rebuild and rehab these boats until you get
- 12:18Speaker 7: them racing.
- 12:19Speaker 3: Then they'll eat your faces off. They become the most
- 12:22Speaker 3: competitive people you've ever been around in your life. And
- 12:26Speaker 3: it's so fun.
- 12:27Speaker 7: And that's on Sunday at three o'clock and the crowd
- 12:31Speaker 7: has grown monumentally because it's fun and you know everything
- 12:36Speaker 7: where it's a click of a button and you look
- 12:38Speaker 7: down and you know I'm a mother of a twenty
- 12:40Speaker 7: one year old and twenty three year old. It's, you know,
- 12:42Speaker 7: instant gratification I watch it. There is something so incredibly
- 12:46Speaker 7: cool of watching these ginormous Stern wheelers race and a
- 12:52Speaker 7: dead sprint live in action.
- 12:54Speaker 3: It's just it's a very, very, very good time.
- 12:56Speaker 7: And we have commentators who are there talking about the
- 12:59Speaker 7: history of the Stern wheels, who owns them, how much
- 13:03Speaker 7: it takes to rehab them, and it's just it's going
- 13:05Speaker 7: to be really fun.
- 13:06Speaker 5: Talking again with Charles Maror, Amy Shulterer, good one with
- 13:08Speaker 5: Dave aland showing five Any Live is brought to you
- 13:09Speaker 5: by by Bridge Valley offering custom Taylor trainings to suppliskilled

- 13:16Speaker 5: You've got a couple of texts here for you before
- 13:18Speaker 5: we let you go, and then you're gonna be back
- 13:19Speaker 5: on talk Line and you're the Mayor Monday segment. And
- 13:22Speaker 5: you said you've heard the Mayor Monday. Yeah, okay, So
- 13:24Speaker 5: have you never been on your extended mayor mind? Well,
- 13:28Speaker 5: so you know, one of the questions is always the
- 13:32Speaker 5: question I ask every mayor every week. So you have
- 13:34Speaker 5: told now toil about two twenty to get prepared for
- 13:37Speaker 5: it is if you come to Charleston, here's the one
- 13:41Speaker 5: thing you have to do. You have to see, you
- 13:43Speaker 5: have to experience. So that's your question, all right, all right?
- 13:46Speaker 5: Text said about your bracelet? Are they girls bracelets?
- 13:50Speaker 7: I don't know what that means. It's for anybody bracelet.
- 13:52Speaker 7: But you just have to be under the age of eighteen.
- 13:54Speaker 7: I really say sixteen, but I can't do that if
- 13:56Speaker 7: you're a young person. Lots of different I will say that,
- 14:00Speaker 7: lots of different colors, lots of different colors just dismounted.
- 14:03Speaker 7: I mean she made me with her, her counterpart, her colleague,
- 14:08Speaker 7: one hundred of them, one hundred, and she made a
- 14:12Speaker 7: pretty penny off of me, me personally, not the city,
- 14:16Speaker 7: me personally.
- 14:16Speaker 3: But I love it.
- 14:17Speaker 5: Jack says, my mother still has an unopened Regatta glass
- 14:20Speaker 5: bottle of R C Cola.
- 14:22Speaker 3: From the early nineteen eighty I have one, I have one, right,
- 14:25Speaker 3: I love it.
- 14:26Speaker 5: Other texts says, I was in the marching band in
- 14:29Speaker 5: junior high and high school in the Grand Feature Parade.
- 14:32Speaker 5: Does the city have video copies of Regatta Parade? Specifically
- 14:35Speaker 5: eighty five to ninety gosh.
- 14:36Speaker 3: You whiz.
- 14:37Speaker 7: I don't know, but I can find out. If you
- 14:39Speaker 7: call three four eight eight one seven four, I'll see
- 14:41Speaker 7: if I can track that down. Oh, ask Audrey and
- 14:43Speaker 7: see if I can track it.
- 14:44Speaker 5: And I would also say go to YouTube because there's
- 14:46Speaker 5: a lot of there's a lot of stuff that people
- 14:49Speaker 5: put on YouTube.
- 14:49Speaker 3: There's a lot on YouTube. All right, Mayor, thank you,
- 14:52Speaker 3: I'm excited.
- 14:53Speaker 5: I have you back on I think you're going to
- 14:55Speaker 5: make a appearance with TJ and Wilson on the talk
- 14:58Speaker 5: line and then I'll have you back for the Mayor

- 18:32Speaker 5: I'm I allow yourself to your guest to introduce yourself.
- 18:34Speaker 6: Go ahead, good morning. I'm Alicia Bossy with the Mountaineer
- 18:37Speaker 6: Food Bank, and.
- 18:38Speaker 11: I'm Steve Hastings with the law firm of Hendrickson and
- 18:40Speaker 11: Long here in Charleston.
- 18:41Speaker 5: All right, we appreciate you both being here and talk
- 18:45Speaker 5: about your law firm's involvement with Mountaineer Food Bank.
- 18:49Speaker 11: Well, I think mainly one of the founding partners, Dave Hendrickson,
- 18:52Speaker 11: is one of his pet projects, so to speak. Any
- 18:55Speaker 11: chance he gets an opportunity, he tries to help out
- 18:57Speaker 11: the food bank. And we've done that a few times
- 18:59Speaker 11: every years. And I think that with Alsia now and Dave,
- 19:02Speaker 11: they're working to grow our involvement with that.
- 19:05Speaker 5: Yeah, and now, I think he was on the show
- 19:06Speaker 5: a look like a couple of months ago and he
- 19:08Speaker 5: talked about that. Why do you think it's so important?
- 19:10Speaker 11: Well, I think you know, when you have a business
- 19:13Speaker 11: in the community, you have an obligation to give back,
- 19:16Speaker 11: and anybody that may know Dave knows that he wears
- 19:18Speaker 11: that on his sleeve. Any chance he gets he can
- 19:20Speaker 11: contribute back to the community. The firm has been involved
- 19:22Speaker 11: in a lot of activities over the years, and this
- 19:25Speaker 11: one is near and dear to our heart.
- 19:26Speaker 5: And you've got a sort of announcement you wanted to
- 19:29Speaker 5: make today about that.
- 19:29Speaker 11: Yeah, So with the Mountain your food Bank, we're starting
- 19:32Speaker 11: a food drive this year. I think there's always a
- 19:35Speaker 11: food drive. Alisia would probably tell you they're always trying
- 19:37Speaker 11: to raise it. For the regard of this week, we
- 19:41Speaker 11: are the firm will match the first one thousand cans
- 19:44Speaker 11: delivered to us and also the first thousand dollars. So
- 19:48Speaker 11: we're going to be setting up outside our office.
- 19:50Speaker 5: I think Alicia has.
- 19:51Speaker 11: All the details on that, but you can bring stuff
- 19:55Speaker 11: to our office anytime this week. Our office is at
- 19:56Speaker 11: two fourteen Capitol Street, right beside Adelphia, So if you're
- 19:59Speaker 11: looking Adelphia, we're the building to the right right. Alicia,
- 20:02Speaker 11: do you want to tell about the food drivers out?
- 20:05Speaker 12: Sure?
- 20:05Speaker 6: Yes, So we were really excited about this announcement and
- 20:08Speaker 6: excited to have Hendrickson and Long on board and supporting us.
- 20:12Speaker 6: We will be set up during regatta on Saturday from
- 20:14Speaker 6: one to four. We set up right out in front
- 20:16Speaker 6: of Hendrickson and Long on Capitol Street, so you can
- 20:19Speaker 6: bring donations. Then we'll have a donation box. We'll have
- 20:22Speaker 6: a collection box if you want to bring non perishable
- 20:24Speaker 6: food items. The most needed items are peanut butter, rice beans,
- 20:29Speaker 6: and beef stew, but we will take anything that.
- 20:31Speaker 5: You bring that's I mean, and those are kind of
- 20:34Speaker 5: those non perishable things as you talk about that have
- 20:36Speaker 5: a little bit longer shelf life. Ye usually usually how
- 20:40Speaker 5: are things going with Mountain their Food Bank?
- 20:42Speaker 6: Things are going well, We're busy, you know, with the
- 20:44Speaker 6: recent flooding up in Ohio County and some of the
- 20:47Speaker 6: other areas. We've been active in disaster and getting emergency
- 20:50Speaker 6: food boxes, you know, up to them. We are in
- 20:54Speaker 6: forty eight of the fifty five counties on the road
- 20:56Speaker 6: distributing food, getting food to our agency partners. So it's
- 21:00Speaker 6: a busy time.
- 21:01Speaker 5: I think sometimes people when they think of organizations like
- 21:04Speaker 5: Mountain their Food Bank, they only think of and you
- 21:07Speaker 5: do a lot of just distribution to the public, but
- 21:09Speaker 5: they forget how involved you folks are when a disaster
- 21:11Speaker 5: happens like we saw in southern West Virginia earlier this
- 21:14Speaker 5: year in the Ohio County and Marion County just a
- 21:17Speaker 5: couple of weeks ago.
- 21:18Speaker 6: Yes, we are a part of VOAD and our Rock
- 21:21Speaker 6: Branch facility is actually shared with the National Guard. So
- 21:25Speaker 6: that's where we keep a lot of our emergency disaster supplies.
- 21:29Speaker 6: And so if there'sn't a disaster, we are out there
- 21:32Speaker 6: getting food and water and supplies out to the folks
- 21:36Speaker 6: that need it.
- 21:36Speaker 5: So you're going to be setting up, as you said
- 21:38Speaker 5: during the regatta. Yes, and people can bring their items
- 21:41Speaker 5: in or they can just make cash donations as well.
- 21:43Speaker 6: Yes, we'll have a donation box. If you don't have cash,
- 21:45Speaker 6: we have a QR code that you can scan. Additionally,
- 21:49Speaker 6: if you aren't able to make it out on Saturday,
- 21:51Speaker 6: like Steve said, you can drop items off to their
- 21:54Speaker 6: office throughout the week to.
- 21:56Speaker 5: One of the hours this week I mean with him
- 21:58Speaker 5: and fourth of July and everything.
- 21:59Speaker 11: Typical office hours from eight thirty I think until about
- 22:02Speaker 11: five o'clock. Typically there'll be somebod at the front desk.
- 22:04Speaker 11: You can drop stuff off all.
- 22:05Speaker 5: Week, okay, And so that would be Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday,
- 22:09Speaker 5: or you open on Thursday, the day before the fourth.
- 22:11Speaker 5: Because I know a lot of folks are taken off
- 22:13Speaker 5: on Thursday.
- 22:13Speaker 11: That's why I think we'll probably open at least half
- 22:15Speaker 11: a day out of I don't know if the powers
- 22:17Speaker 11: that be have told anybody what the schedule Thursday would be,
- 22:20Speaker 11: but at least through now.
- 22:21Speaker 5: Don't you love when companies do that? Yeah, they can't
- 22:24Speaker 5: they wait until like that afternoon. But I'm sure that
- 22:27Speaker 5: even if you don't make it here in Regatta, I mean,
- 22:30Speaker 5: we want to try to get people down there, but
- 22:31Speaker 5: even if you don't, you'd be willing to accept next
- 22:34Speaker 5: week as well.
- 22:34Speaker 11: I'm sure we'd be willing to accept it at any
- 22:36Speaker 11: time if someone wants to drop it off at our
- 22:38Speaker 11: office at like I said, two fourteen Capitol Street, we'll
- 22:40Speaker 11: make sure it gets to where it needs to go, and.
- 22:42Speaker 5: It doesn't have to be I mean, you certainly would
- 22:45Speaker 5: welcome if somebody wants to go to their local big
- 22:47Speaker 5: box store and come in with you know, giant pilots
- 22:50Speaker 5: of food, but you'd also be happy with one or
- 22:52Speaker 5: two cans you know.
- 22:53Speaker 11: Whatever, We'll take whatever, and we'll pass it along.
- 22:55Speaker 5: I mean, and generally speaking, West Virginians are very giving
- 22:58Speaker 5: people when it comes to things like this. I mean,
- 23:00Speaker 5: we like to help each other out. And this is
- 23:02Speaker 5: what we don't want to talk about the overall, the
- 23:04Speaker 5: overall with Mountaineer Food Bank. I mean, it's a wonderful organization,
- 23:08Speaker 5: but to talk about what a typical I know, the
- 23:11Speaker 5: disaster aspect of it is one thing, but I want
- 23:14Speaker 5: to talk about what would you do on a non
- 23:16Speaker 5: disaster time, just on a daily basis.
- 23:18Speaker 6: Sure, So, as I mentioned earlier, the Mountaineer Food Bank
- 23:21Speaker 6: is the largest emergency food provider in West Virginia. There
- 23:24Speaker 6: are only two food banks in West Virginia. It's Facing
- 23:27Speaker 6: Hunger that they're based in Huntingson, then the Mountaineer Food
- 23:29Speaker 6: Bank we're based in gas Away. We are both part
- 23:32Speaker 6: of the Feeding American network and there are only two
- 23:34Speaker 6: hundred food banks across the country that are part of
- 23:36Speaker 6: Feeding America. And then we have four hundred and sixty
- 23:41Speaker 6: partner agencies. So those are your local food pantries, your
- 23:45Speaker 6: backpack programs, your soup kitchens. Our job is to source
- 23:48Speaker 6: the food and then distribute it to the agencies across
- 23:51Speaker 6: the forty eight counties. In addition to that, we have
- 23:54Speaker 6: some of our own programs. We have our Veterans Table
- 23:56Speaker 6: program where we serve about fourteen hundred veterans a month.
- 24:00Speaker 6: We have our Mobile Pantry program and that you probably
- 24:04Speaker 6: have seen us out in your communities. That's where we
- 24:06Speaker 6: take our truck into food desert areas and set it
- 24:10Speaker 6: up and the neighbors can drive through and get a
- 24:12Speaker 6: box of non perishable food items along with some theory
- 24:15Speaker 6: and milk, bread fruit, those types of things. We have
- 24:20Speaker 6: backpack programs right now, we're doing summer feeding programs to
- 24:24Speaker 6: help out in We're doing that in Clay County. And
- 24:28Speaker 6: then we also have an extra Mile program where we
- 24:31Speaker 6: partner with door Dash in Mercer County to distribute food
- 24:34Speaker 6: boxes to families that maybe have transportation barriers or can't
- 24:39Speaker 6: get out. So we work with DoorDash and the county
- 24:42Speaker 6: Board of Education there, and we also replicate that program
- 24:45Speaker 6: in Clay County, but we use the bus drivers to
- 24:48Speaker 6: deliver the food to the neighbors and they do that
- 24:51Speaker 6: in between their bus routes.
- 24:52Speaker 5: Tart to folks around in their food bank. The Dave

- 25:05Speaker 5: six to sixty, or visit generationspt dot com to find
- 25:08Speaker 5: the closest location near you. Let's talk about the current
- 25:10Speaker 5: need in twenty twenty five. You've seen it gone up,
- 25:13Speaker 5: staying steady. What's the need it has gone up?
- 25:16Speaker 6: We just received the new data from Feeding America. Of
- 25:19Speaker 6: course we're always two years behind, but one in six
- 25:22Speaker 6: adults face food and security in West Virginia and one
- 25:26Speaker 6: in five children. So if you think about that, you
- 25:28Speaker 6: walk into a classroom of twenty kids, you know one
- 25:32Speaker 6: in every five is going to be hungry that day.
- 25:36Speaker 6: We're looking at about two hundred and fifty thousand West
- 25:38Speaker 6: Virginians overall that face food in security.
- 25:41Speaker 5: And when you talk about food insecurity, I mean these
- 25:44Speaker 5: are and I guess the I guess the definition of
- 25:48Speaker 5: that would be you don't always know where your next
- 25:50Speaker 5: meal is coming from. And the thing about the school
- 25:52Speaker 5: system is, you know, I think that they do a
- 25:54Speaker 5: great job. But there's so many programs out there that
- 25:59Speaker 5: try to do what you guys are doing. But you
- 26:01Speaker 5: guys are just so big you're able to serve more
- 26:02Speaker 5: people because a lot of times when these kids, when
- 26:05Speaker 5: that final bell rings, that's it. They don't eat until
- 26:08Speaker 5: they come back the next morning during school and summer
- 26:11Speaker 5: is an entirely different set.
- 26:12Speaker 6: Of problems, that's correct. So food insecurity is not having
- 26:16Speaker 6: access to food at certain times versus hunger. You know,
- 26:20Speaker 6: that's a personalized feeling where your belly's growling and you
- 26:23Speaker 6: can't focus or you can't do anything when you're hungry.
- 26:26Speaker 6: So we try to address both of those.
- 26:29Speaker 5: Yeah, it's you guys are doing great. I mean with
- 26:32Speaker 5: what you do. How long has the Mountain of Food
- 26:34Speaker 5: Bank been in existence?
- 26:35Speaker 6: Give and we were founded in nineteen eighty one, Okay.
- 26:38Speaker 5: And there are areas of West Virginia here that term
- 26:41Speaker 5: thrown out there food deserts. But there are areas of
- 26:43Speaker 5: West Virginia that are that are truly that if you
- 26:46Speaker 5: don't if you don't grow it, you know, you can't
- 26:48Speaker 5: can't grow everything. I mean, maybe you don't have the
- 26:50Speaker 5: means to grow it. You just don't have it. And
- 26:52Speaker 5: there's a lot of areas, and there's areas not far
- 26:54Speaker 5: from Charleston that are considered to be food deserts.
- 26:57Speaker 6: Yes, and you know Clay County doesn't have a grocery store,
- 27:00Speaker 6: so that's one area where we focus heavily on extra
- 27:03Speaker 6: mile mobile pantry, whatever we can do to help those folks.
- 27:07Speaker 6: And like you said, they're all across West Virginia.
- 27:09Speaker 5: All right, So people coming to the regatta, let's try
- 27:12Speaker 5: to recap here before we let you get people coming
- 27:13Speaker 5: to the regatta or anytime this week, bring those food items,
- 27:16Speaker 5: drop them off at your office. Give us the address
- 27:17Speaker 5: again to fourteen Capitol Street, to fourteen Capitol Street, and
- 27:21Speaker 5: you can also accept cash donation. Somebody ask if you
- 27:24Speaker 5: would accept pet foods.
- 27:25Speaker 6: Yes, we do accept. As part of our Veterans Table program,
- 27:29Speaker 6: we do hand out dog food and cat food, So
- 27:32Speaker 6: if you'd like to bring that, we can certainly use it.
- 27:34Speaker 8: There you go.

- 27:50Speaker 5: I'm glad you brought up volunteer because I promise them
- 27:52Speaker 5: we'll let you go after this. Volunteers are definitely needed
- 27:55Speaker 5: for programs like this. Talk about that.
- 27:56Speaker 6: Yes, volunteers at the heart of the food Bank. We
- 27:58Speaker 6: could not do what we do without volunteers, so we
- 28:01Speaker 6: need you. We need volunteers at our mobile pantry distributions.
- 28:04Speaker 6: We need volunteers to help pack boxes. So if you

- 32:52Speaker 8: Texays dear day.
- 32:53Speaker 5: The historical thing that I missed most from regattas long
- 32:56Speaker 5: ago are the smells. All the girls smell like Aquanett's
- 33:00Speaker 5: Zema and Marlborough lights. Eighties regatta was boss man, that
- 33:04Speaker 5: says a text. Yeah, the Zema, there's the name I
- 33:08Speaker 5: haven't heard in a while. And the Aquinet and Marlboro lights.
- 33:11Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 33:12Speaker 14: You know.
- 33:12Speaker 15: The thing about.
- 33:13Speaker 5: Regatta is and the Mayor's talked about this since it
- 33:17Speaker 5: was brought back a couple of years ago. People you know, say, well,
- 33:19Speaker 5: I remember when the regatta was ten days or however
- 33:22Speaker 5: long it was or whatever. Well, you got to understand
- 33:25Speaker 5: that we had a lot less people in the Charleston
- 33:29Speaker 5: area that what we had then. We don't have the
- 33:33Speaker 5: money without spont because trust me, if there aren't sponsors
- 33:36Speaker 5: for this thing, nothing happens. This is not The city
- 33:39Speaker 5: does a great job on regatta, but they'll be the
- 33:41Speaker 5: first to tell you. The entire regatta board and the
- 33:43Speaker 5: mayor will tell you, without these corporate sponsors, the regatta
- 33:46Speaker 5: doesn't happen. The city doesn't put put this on out
- 33:48Speaker 5: of their own pocket. It has to come from corporate sponsors.
- 33:53Speaker 5: And the big corporate sponsors just aren't here anymore. There
- 33:58Speaker 5: are a few, and and they do a great job
- 34:02Speaker 5: with a lot of these things, not just the Regatta
- 34:05Speaker 5: but other things that go on, but got to have
- 34:07Speaker 5: the corporate sponsorship, and corporations just aren't here to write
- 34:12Speaker 5: the checks anymore like they used to be. So that's
- 34:14Speaker 5: why it was kind of is kind of shortened a
- 34:16Speaker 5: little bit. And it's still a great event. I mean,
- 34:18Speaker 5: a quarter of a million people are going to be
- 34:19Speaker 5: in Charleston. And one of the great things about the
- 34:23Speaker 5: return of the Regatta as opposed to years ago, is
- 34:25Speaker 5: now with the technology, they can actually track where people
- 34:30Speaker 5: are coming from. You know, that little thing that you
- 34:33Speaker 5: are addicted to twenty hours a day, that little phone
- 34:35Speaker 5: in your pocket. It tracks everything you do, even if
- 34:38Speaker 5: your location services are turned off. So try not to
- 34:42Speaker 5: fall for that. But we know where people are coming
- 34:46Speaker 5: from and where they're spending the money. Tim Brady from
- 34:48Speaker 5: the Charleston CVB was on the show last week. By
- 34:52Speaker 5: the way, Tim's going to be on the show tomorrow
- 34:53Speaker 5: as well, because the economic numbers are coming out from
- 34:57Speaker 5: the Pro Road Bike Championships back in May, some preliminary
- 35:02Speaker 5: numbers are coming out. Tim is going to be on
- 35:04Speaker 5: the show to talk about that tomorrow. But one of
- 35:06Speaker 5: the great things about Regatta, and one of the great
- 35:08Speaker 5: things about the Pro Roads and all this other things,
- 35:12Speaker 5: the local people support it. But people from out of
- 35:14Speaker 5: town do. We draw an incredible number of people for
- 35:19Speaker 5: Regatta from Pittsburgh, from DC. Some of them have ties
- 35:24Speaker 5: to the area, maybe they grew up here, they went
- 35:26Speaker 5: to college around here somewhere. Some of them don't. They
- 35:28Speaker 5: just come down for the music, for the starn wheel races,
- 35:30Speaker 5: the food and everything else that goes along with it.
- 35:34Speaker 5: And my friends at Regatta Pro Wrestling would be very
- 35:38Speaker 5: upset with me if I didn't mention that they have
- 35:40Speaker 5: a show. So Adam Harris, if you're listening, I know
- 35:42Speaker 5: Adam had reached out to me about coming on the
- 35:44Speaker 5: show to talk about that. We will make sure that
- 35:46Speaker 5: we'll get you on sometime over the next couple of
- 35:48Speaker 5: days to talk about that. So that's one of the
- 35:50Speaker 5: great things again to me about Regatta is the amount
- 35:52Speaker 5: of people that come from out of town for this
- 35:55Speaker 5: and the music, the food, everything that goes along with that.
- 36:01Speaker 5: Metro News Midday coming up at noon today. There are
- 36:04Speaker 5: some strange lady on the show today who I haven't
- 36:08Speaker 5: seen in about a week and a half. Amanda Baron,
- 36:11Speaker 5: kidding ab She is back from vacation. Thirteen News Tonight
- 36:15Speaker 5: Live anchor Amanda Baron, and she and I will be
- 36:18Speaker 5: handling things today on the show again on the show tomorrow.
- 36:22Speaker 5: Tim Brady from the Charleston CVB is going to be
- 36:25Speaker 5: stopping by the show tomorrow. Texays the one since we
- 36:31Speaker 5: eighties girls also had that the texture forgot Hawaiian tropic
- 36:36Speaker 5: suntan looation. That's a text the smells of Summer. I
- 36:41Speaker 5: don't know. That doesn't really sound good. It's nine forty
- 36:44Speaker 5: three older adults to protect themselves against severe respiratory disease.

- 36:51Speaker 5: risk less, do more get started vaccines dot gov pede
- 36:53Speaker 5: for about the US Department of Health and Human Services.
- 36:55Speaker 5: And we're going to give you a fair warning.
- 36:56Speaker 14: Now.
- 36:56Speaker 5: I'm not going to be on the show on Thursday,
- 36:58Speaker 5: either this show or News Midday. I do I get
- 37:01Speaker 5: a day off, and we're not doing shows on Friday.
- 37:05Speaker 5: So Amy Breedlove, who you heard as my sort of
- 37:08Speaker 5: co host on the show on Friday. World renowned voice
- 37:12Speaker 5: actor extraordinary Amy is going to be in hosting for
- 37:16Speaker 5: me this coming Thursday, Texas ten days for regatta. Our
- 37:22Speaker 5: diminished attention span could not hold today's population for that long.
- 37:26Speaker 5: That's probably something to be said for that too. And
- 37:29Speaker 5: you just think about, i mean, the amount of work
- 37:33Speaker 5: that goes into a four day regatta, and cities you know,
- 37:36Speaker 5: all around know this. I mean we're talking about you know,
- 37:40Speaker 5: it's it's a twenty four hour thing. Long after the
- 37:42Speaker 5: music has ended, long after the the vendors have closed
- 37:45Speaker 5: up for the night. The city Cruise are out doing stuff,
- 37:48Speaker 5: they're out cleaning. It taxes the fire department, It taxes
- 37:51Speaker 5: the police department as well. So again, I think four
- 37:54Speaker 5: days is pretty good. And the mayor has always, you know,
- 37:57Speaker 5: ever since that it was brought back, has asked queb
- 38:00Speaker 5: been asked questions on this show in other places about
- 38:02Speaker 5: the timing. Why it's now and it used to be
- 38:05Speaker 5: you know, in September, closer to Labor Day. Well, the
- 38:07Speaker 5: reason is because school starts like the first of August now,
- 38:11Speaker 5: and high school football starts earlier, and so that greatly
- 38:15Speaker 5: cuts in to the number of people that attend that
- 38:18Speaker 5: we got them. If you haven't read it or didn't
- 38:23Speaker 5: hear it, I would point your attention to TJ. Meadows
- 38:27Speaker 5: commentary this morning. It's available on the website wv metronews
- 38:31Speaker 5: dot com in case you may have missed it on
- 38:32Speaker 5: the air. It's a good one, it really is. It
- 38:36Speaker 5: started out by talking about late last Thursday night slash
- 38:42Speaker 5: early Friday morning with the traffic was at a standstill
- 38:44Speaker 5: on the turnpike. You all know the story by now,
- 38:47Speaker 5: and yes, the parkway's authority has totally owned it. In
- 38:51Speaker 5: a statement that released by the authority, which we broke
- 38:53Speaker 5: the story Friday on Metro News Midday, the authority saying
- 38:56Speaker 5: that they promise that that will never happen again. Of course,
- 39:00Speaker 5: they said that back in two thousand and nine when
- 39:05Speaker 5: people spent twenty hours stranded on the turnpike and a snowstorm. Now, now,
- 39:10Speaker 5: to be fair, the same people aren't in charge now
- 39:13Speaker 5: that we're in two thousand and nine, as TJ points out,
- 39:18Speaker 5: and correctly so, there needs to be a full investigation,
- 39:21Speaker 5: which will come and of course a detailed timeline and response.
- 39:26Speaker 5: But the key point of TJ's commentary is, and I
- 39:31Speaker 5: agree one hundred percent, is maybe in the state we
- 39:34Speaker 5: should be more concerned with actually governing instead of getting
- 39:38Speaker 5: sidetracked by all these culture issues and other things that
- 39:44Speaker 5: really don't do anything in my opinion, but further divide
- 39:48Speaker 5: and already divided populace. And I couldn't agree with it more.
- 39:52Speaker 5: I mean, DEI, vaccine issues, et cetera, et cetera. All
- 39:56Speaker 5: it does is take away, in my opinion, from the
- 39:59Speaker 5: importance stuff. And TJ ends the commentary by saying this
- 40:03Speaker 5: is a quote less culture war, more competence, less noise,
- 40:08Speaker 5: more tangible results. To mister Meadows, I would say, amen,
- 40:12Speaker 5: go read the commentary. It's available at wv metronews dot com.

- 44:41Speaker 5: Another was showing movies on jumbo screens. I remember Jaws
- 44:44Speaker 5: on one screen set up on a parking lot and
- 44:46Speaker 5: Greece airing at the Cultural Center of theater. As a Texter,
- 44:50Speaker 5: tex says, Republicans need to stand up against Trump than
- 44:56Speaker 5: Trump's policies that are destroying our economy, or give a
- 45:00Speaker 5: their man card, get a backbone and lose what you
- 45:02Speaker 5: have worked for as a texture. Excuse me, but Dave
- 45:07Speaker 5: Island showing five eighty live is broad too, part by
- 45:09Speaker 5: morgad and Mortgan, America's largest injury law firm. So the
- 45:12Speaker 5: debate continues over the Big Beautiful Bill, of course, that
- 45:15Speaker 5: dominated the Sunday morning shows. And regardless of how you
- 45:19Speaker 5: feel about the Big Beautiful Bill, I'm going to go
- 45:23Speaker 5: ahead and say this. We cannot keep spending money like
- 45:27Speaker 5: we are. It is simply not sustainable and no one
- 45:33Speaker 5: wants things that are important to them cuts. But this
- 45:37Speaker 5: country is going to be more broke than we already
- 45:40Speaker 5: are if we keep doing what we're doing. We want
- 45:45Speaker 5: work requirements for people on Medicaid, and look, I am
- 45:47Speaker 5: fine with that, but depending on which numbers you look at,
- 45:50Speaker 5: sixty four percent of those on Medicaid are already working.
- 45:55Speaker 5: That figure kind of gets it can go up or down,
- 45:58Speaker 5: but sixty four percent of those dedicate R working. The
- 46:02Speaker 5: government continues to spend like drunken sailors and Social Security,
- 46:09Speaker 5: which the texture just mentioned interestingly enough that they would
- 46:11Speaker 5: mention that which is not really necessarily a big part
- 46:14Speaker 5: of this bill. Social Security is going to be broke
- 46:17Speaker 5: in ten years. And for those people like me, My
- 46:20Speaker 5: wife and I were having this discussion yesterday, maybe looking
- 46:23Speaker 5: at retirement in another ten years. I don't see myself
- 46:28Speaker 5: ever retiring, to be honest with you, I can see myself,
- 46:30Speaker 5: you know, cutting back a little bit, but not retiring.
- 46:32Speaker 5: But anyway, when people of my age, and I'll be
- 46:35Speaker 5: fifty five in September, when we start thinking about retirement
- 46:40Speaker 5: or cutting back a little bit, social Security is not
- 46:43Speaker 5: going to be there. Most figures say twenty early, twenty thirty,
- 46:47Speaker 5: social Security is gone, which is fine because I never
- 46:52Speaker 5: really thought of Social Security being there anyway, and it
- 46:56Speaker 5: was never designed to live on. That's what we have
- 46:58Speaker 5: a tendency to forget. Social Security. He was never designed
- 47:01Speaker 5: to pay your rents. It was never designed for you
- 47:03Speaker 5: to live on. It was called supplemental for a reason.
- 47:09Speaker 5: But back to the Big Beautiful Bill. It may have
- 47:11Speaker 5: some good stuff in it, some bad stuff in it,
- 47:13Speaker 5: but the Big Beautiful Bill is expected to add three
- 47:15Speaker 5: to five trillion dollars trillion with the T to the
- 47:20Speaker 5: national debt, which is not a very Republican way of
- 47:24Speaker 5: doing things. But most of the Republicans these days aren't
- 47:27Speaker 5: very Republican to begin with. The preceding was an editorial comment,
- 47:32Speaker 5: but that's just you know, old Mandave kind of pining
- 47:35Speaker 5: away for the old days when Republicans didn't want to
- 47:39Speaker 5: add dollars to the debt and wanted to lead people
- 47:41Speaker 5: alone and stay out of their personal lives, which is
- 47:43Speaker 5: not what the modern message to the modern Republican Party is.
- 47:47Speaker 5: In my opinion, tex says, as long as West Virginia
- 47:50Speaker 5: is a coal state, it will never be an aviation state,
- 47:53Speaker 5: an engineering state, a technology state. West Virginia will continue
- 47:57Speaker 5: to be stuck as a texture. Dear Dave, one last thing,
- 48:05Speaker 5: another thing that became historical and all that AquaNet zema
- 48:08Speaker 5: and smoke. Okay, you almost got me on that one.
- 48:12Speaker 5: I pulled the TJ. Meadows there. What's all this talk
- 48:16Speaker 5: of Zema? Uh? That's the official sponsor of Talkline?
- 48:19Speaker 6: Did it?
- 48:19Speaker 5: Did you not know that we sold that whatever it's
- 48:22Speaker 5: going to be talk Line brought to you by Zema.
- 48:24Speaker 5: Am I getting paid either? Zeema was more of a
- 48:28Speaker 5: nineties thing. If you want to go back to my generation,
- 48:31Speaker 5: the eighties, it's got to be Bartles and James, it's
- 48:33Speaker 5: got to be Bartles and James, Calvin. Uh, Sun Country,
- 48:37Speaker 5: you know the wine cooler, Camel Joe. Yeah, Cammel Joe,
- 48:42Speaker 5: Cammel Joe. Oh from the Campbel cigarettes. Okay, okay, all right?
- 48:46Speaker 5: Would you agree or disagree with my little analogy that
- 48:48Speaker 5: or were you paying attention? Which one about how I
- 48:52Speaker 5: we're broke?
- 48:53Speaker 8: Well?
- 48:53Speaker 5: About that social Security was never designed to live on,
- 48:55Speaker 5: not at all?
- 48:56Speaker 6: Uh?
- 48:56Speaker 5: And also that what I see in this big bul bill,
- 49:00Speaker 5: there are good things in it. I will say there
- 49:02Speaker 5: are good things in it, but it's not very Republican
- 49:05Speaker 5: when you add three to five trillion dollars onto the debt.
- 49:07Speaker 5: And I really wish that Republicans would start thinking like
- 49:10Speaker 5: Republicans again and not add much, not you know, be
- 49:15Speaker 5: obsessed with any money to the national debt and to
- 49:17Speaker 5: get out of people's personal lives.
- 49:19Speaker 2: I think the Big.
- 49:20Speaker 14: Beautiful Bill is a croc if you want to know
- 49:23Speaker 14: the truth about it. Look, I'm glad that we're extending
- 49:27Speaker 14: tax cuts. I think anytime you take less money off
- 49:30Speaker 14: the top out of people's till from their labor, I
- 49:33Speaker 14: think that's good. I think they spend their money better.
- 49:35Speaker 14: You just talked about retirement. You know, people are criticized
- 49:39Speaker 14: for saving their money.
- 49:39Speaker 5: Oh, all the rituals save it.
- 49:41Speaker 8: Good.
- 49:41Speaker 5: Then that's one less mouth we have to feed in retirement.
- 49:43Speaker 5: That's a good thing.
- 49:46Speaker 8: This bill.
- 49:49Speaker 14: Doesn't address spending enough. I mean, we harp about the
- 49:52Speaker 14: medicaid thing. It doesn't have to be medicaid. Pick anything
- 49:56Speaker 14: you want. The bottom line is the overarching fundamental problem
- 49:59Speaker 14: is we we spend too much money in this country.
- 50:03Speaker 5: Year after year.
- 50:05Speaker 14: We run trillion two trillion dollar deficit year after year,
- 50:10Speaker 14: bringing us to where we are today. This bill doesn't
- 50:13Speaker 14: fix any of that. We don't have a revenue problem.
- 50:15Speaker 10: We have.
- 50:16Speaker 14: We're an addicted to spending problem and we're doing nothing, nothing.
- 50:21Speaker 5: To fix that.
- 50:22Speaker 14: That's a government's answer. Let's just throw money at it.
- 50:24Speaker 14: And look, if you kept the rates where they are.
- 50:26Speaker 14: Let or excuse me, they went back to where they
- 50:28Speaker 14: were pre cut. So they go back up all the
- 50:30Speaker 14: marginal rates. I could be sold on that if I
- 50:33Speaker 14: had any hope, any semblance of hope, that the government
- 50:38Speaker 14: would get their spending problem under control.
- 50:40Speaker 5: They won't.
- 50:41Speaker 14: So the best option is to starve the beast and
- 50:45Speaker 14: try to get them to rein in the spending problem
- 50:49Speaker 14: that we have in Washington. We are heading toward the cliff.
- 50:52Speaker 14: We're like, we're kind of like the road runner in
- 50:54Speaker 14: the coyote. We're already out over the cliff and our
- 50:56Speaker 14: feet are going. We just haven't fallen yet and went boom.
- 51:00Speaker 14: We haven't had a Yeah, that's how bad. That's how
- 51:03Speaker 14: bad all of this is, and we do absolutely nothing
- 51:09Speaker 14: to rein it in. I looked at the numbers the
- 51:12Speaker 14: other day. Chris van Holland was on last night, Senator
- 51:14Speaker 14: from Maryland to a debate, Oh, if billionaires would just
- 51:16Speaker 14: pay their fair share.
- 51:17Speaker 5: I went and looked it up.
- 51:18Speaker 14: We have eight hundred and some billionaires in this country,
- 51:20Speaker 14: based on twenty twenty four numbers, six point two trillion
- 51:22Speaker 14: dollars worth of wealth they hold. Those eight hundred people
- 51:25Speaker 14: if we declared a war on wealth today and took
- 51:27Speaker 14: every cent they had, we could fund the deficit for
- 51:30Speaker 14: three years, or just about from the government for one year.
- 51:33Speaker 5: Take your pick.
- 51:34Speaker 8: What's that do after that?
- 51:35Speaker 5: It's nothing? What's that do after that? Yeah, it's nothing.
- 51:39Speaker 8: Tex says.
- 51:39Speaker 5: If a big, beautiful bill is a croc as TJ says,
- 51:42Speaker 5: why isn't he calling out Senators Capitol, Justice and Reps
- 51:44Speaker 5: Miller and Moore? Well, I mean, I am Have you
- 51:48Speaker 5: heard me? Have you heard me say that?
- 51:50Speaker 14: I listen today, Riley's one hundred eleven oh six. I'll
- 51:53Speaker 14: ask him what we're going to do about spending. It
- 51:56Speaker 14: doesn't address spending. I think I've been fairly.
- 52:00Speaker 5: Verbose that I don't know that I that I would
- 52:03Speaker 5: call them out, but I would say to Senator Capito
- 52:05Speaker 5: or Senator Justice or Representatives Miller Moore that this is
- 52:11Speaker 5: this is not good. It's not and start acting like
- 52:13Speaker 5: Republicans again, that's just me. That that was not TJ.
- 52:16Speaker 2: That was me.
- 52:17Speaker 5: Tex says, Uh, we second the motion. We spend too
- 52:21Speaker 5: much money. I do believe that's what Doge was uncovering,
- 52:24Speaker 5: says the Texter. All right, and we thought about that
- 52:27Speaker 5: for shit, all the calls and texts to the show today.
- 52:31Speaker 5: Coming up on the show tomorrow. Speaking of money, Uh,
- 52:33Speaker 5: we're gonna have Tim Brady from the Charleston CVB on
- 52:36Speaker 5: the show tomorrow because the economic numbers are in from
- 52:38Speaker 5: the Pro Road Bike Rally championships and races and whatever. Uh,
- 52:44Speaker 5: So we'll talk to Timp about that tomorrow. I'll see
- 52:46Speaker 5: you then see you later day. I introduced Midday till
- 52:48Speaker 5: then have fun to love Somebody.
- 53:02Speaker 2: C HSA ninety six point five at then Charleston one
- 53:05Speaker 2: oh four point five Cross Lanes, l u VRC Media Station.
- 53:10Speaker 2: We're proud to live here too.
