- Ranch Wives: So my brothers had a friend over and he wanted to ride. So I was like, sure, take tumbleweed. He rode out and like she was mad. So she dumped him at the gate and turned around and ran straight back to me. And then he came, because he's mad, so he came down and went to grab her and she took off. See ya. We're done. Bye. no. He had to leave, and then I walked out and she just walked up to me. do? Yeah. Okay. Alright, let's hear it. Let's get into it. Okay, so my kids listen pretty regularly. And they were like, Mom You guys never s say anything funny. They were like, You should do a whole episode on the funny things that have happened. Like on the ranch or with with animals? With animals on the ranch. like yesterday night it was like sprinkling. So we were going up to his mom's to like bring some stuff for her to go berry picking like a berry kit or whatever. And I was like freaking out because my favorite rain jacket, I stuck my arm right through and there was like a hole in the armpit. And I was I kid I was so distraught. I was so upset. And he was like Are you messing with me right now? I was like, does it look like I'm messing with you right now? Like I have a hole in my in my armpit and I'm so upset. This is my favorite thing. He's like, Breanna He like takes it. He like you know how there's like the zipper? Yeah. Yeah, it was undone. So I didn't rip my jacket, it was just the zipper was undone. In case. But my other one had like mesh there. You couldn't just stick your arm through it. In my defense. Anyways, we laughed about that for like way too long. Yeah. Anyways, that's good. so Okay. I think I told you like a couple episodes ago that I dumped the bale before it wrapped. No. Properly? I don't think so. Okay, well, during hey, I was like making a bale and I dumped it. I I hit it with my water bottle. I think I did share that. No. Anyways, hit it with my water bottle. It like spit out the bale before it had wrapped. So it was just this like whoop like it was Mess. it was bad. It didn't wrap properly. It was like not formed properly. It was so bad. But I couldn't put it you can't put it back in. Do you know what I'm saying? Like you have to roll it out and rebail it. Well yes. Technically, yes. So we're like trying to get hay up before it rained. Keith's like, I don't care, just leave it like at least it's in a bale. It's not a pretty bale, but leave it like that. Like whatever. He's How did you even what happened? I was like, I hit it with my water bottle. He's like, You did what? He's like, well, if it's only open like four inches, you can close it again. I'm like, well, I didn't know that. I panicked, dumped it, and then I was like, I don't know what to do. Like, because I've never done that. So then I was like, whatever. So that's fine. He fixed it for me. That was like the first time it happened. Right before my niece's wedding, we were bailing really late the night before. And it was the last bale that I was making. I finished a field. Went to like go into the next field just to finish that bale kind of thing. Got turned in a corner, had like ten feet of pickup, just dumped the bail out. It beeped like it beeped to be like, your bales ready. I just I've definitely done that. You know, like my bailer, if you're over, because it'll beep at you when it's six point five. Yeah, that it's almost made and then at seven it beeps. Beeps again. Yeah, that it's done. But at seven point two it won't shut up. it's mad at you. You picked up too much. Yeah. So then it just beeps at you till you dump the bale. So I've definitely panicked a couple times and like Too many beepings. Yeah, it's too much going on. And then I'm like, Mark Yeah, no, I literally like Dumped it. I radio Keith 'cause he was like grabbing the other baler from the other field. And he was like What happened? She was moving like she's ninety years old. Anyways I was like, babe I like radio it's late. Like I'm I'm over it. I'm just done. It was it was a long week with things. I was like, I dumped the bale before wrap. He's like, Get unrolling it Where as the first one he unrolled for me. You hand unroll? Yeah. Why don't you just push it? Why don't you just bump it with the front of your tractor? Yeah. And then the bale And then the bale just rolls. And you can bale it back up. Wait, with the forks on your tractor or what? No. There's just a bumper. I don't know. Probably because n none of our tractors are in. If you can physically roll it by hand, I would assume that your tractor could also probably. But I I didn't. I just literally I didn't even turn it around. I just cut the twine that had partially wrapped. yeah. And hit it and just took my sacrifice. Maybe I have to hand unroll it. So I quit doing it. Yes. Maybe that's You know what? It is a good lesson. So I just sat there, unrolled it. He was like, Well, how was that? I was like, fine. He was like, Okay. So then I just that was it. Like I was like, I'm I'm going home now. Like I'm not doing it. I'm done. But like to I've never done it. I've done it twice I had done it twice in like three weeks. Yeah. Or two weeks. I was what do we do? Sometimes it's worse though when you're like, I know what I'm doing and you're like just I was literally on auto pilot And you're pretty confident about whereas like when you're learning, you're like, no. no. You're like, well, and then when this one started, when I hit it, I barely hit it, but it opened more than four inches. So I tried to close it and I was like, can't. Could I couldn't even I tried to recover. Yeah. Could not recover to save my life. But they look I have pictures of them. They look terrible. The plus side is I guess with ours on Mark's tractor, you actually have to shove it. Or pull it. You can't just bump it. no, I definitely the well, I with the water bottle it wasn't just a bump. That water bottle is a lot of weight. Like my my yeti is a lot of weight. So like it was a bump, but it was like it moved it You pushed it. I pushed it. And then the other one I just have push it and then it clicks almost. And then it'll start No, I wouldn't say it's ours clicks, but You do definitely have to give it like some Also the fact that it hit the one lever that opened. That opened. It could hit any other side and switch your hydraulics around next time so that you actually have to like open it. To be honest, I don't know if it would've mattered because my that water bottle's so like thick. Yeah. It probably w it probably did hit all of them. They just the one that mattered. Yeah. Also hit was the problem. And then my only other like kinda funny new story, So Birdy is in the barnyard right now. Okay. Because we're out of grass in front the house, so that's fine. Except for when trying to get her home to milk her. Sometimes I don't know how I don't have cream. Because she just was running the other day. Like r running for her we got her with a grain bucket. Keith was like, You should grab her harness. I was like, she followed so good with the grain bucket. It'll be fine. Everything's fine. And then she took off running. I kid you not. We almost had her in the gate. She looks behind her and bolts the other way. And I was like, she was, I kid you not, like from me to Lacey away from the gate, looked beside her, seen me behind her, just like boom the other way. And was like running for her dear life. Keith is like running in his crocs, probably, 'cause we we literally we just went to quickly grab her. Like it was supposed be an easy thing. It was not. Not to mention I had to fight off another cow who is Like just in there 'cause she's going to be burger. Like we're going to send her to the butcher. All of a sudden she's decided she needs grain too. So when I go Birdy Birdy baby to call her in, the other cow She comes running. A 301 the most useless cow on this. That you don't even want to feed grain two. Don't even want to feed grain too. Thinks she needs to come with me. And she's kind of like she like swings her head like she's not We're not friendly about it. Anyways, Birdy takes off, Keith jumps on the quad, tries to cut her off, can't misses. She jumps the fence because she's like her mother, and there's a couple fences that aren't built for Holstein legs She's a little bit tall in that area. Jumps, takes off, like down into the bush. I was like, you would absolutely do this. I'm like shaking the grain bucket. Everybody but her is even interested at this point. Yeah. We like get her harnessed. Well then she wouldn't come. But I had to like pull her out of the bush and then I tied her harness to the back of the quad and made her walk with me from the back of the quad because I couldn't I could not pull her myself because she was doing she was doing that. my goodness. And then I kid you not as soon as I put her in her pen. I only did that for like no a minute and a half on the back of the quad and then she walked with me just fine. It's like a kid who I don't know, that's like ran off too much I guess. I don't know. She walks so good. Get her get her like into her pen where I milk. She's like nice as pie. She's fine. She's totally fine. I was we didn't it literally took me forty five minutes. Milk cows I look like a crazy person out there. Milk cows are a different kind of awful. I was gonna say personality. Terrors? Pick it, I'll tell you. All of it. All of it. Like they're kind of divas though. my god. and so you wanna know you probably want to know why this happened. I've already figured this out to some degree. I didn't bring her dairy ration. I just brought her like grain, like a mixed grain. But it wasn't her grain. How dare you? And she ate it and then decided, nah, I ain't going in for that and took off. Yeah. I'm like, are you kidding me? Diva. Diva's are divas. And not to mention, then the next morning when I went to milk she was acting like she's never been in a headgate before. I was like, What? We're we're restarting. We're re Yeah, I've never had that. And like she's got horns, you kinda gotta like like they're blunt cho whatever, blunt at the end. But if she gets you in the right spot, I'd be telling you, it looks like my husband just like abuses me because my arms are all bruised all the time, like right here. It's from her hook ing me. When I when I go to dump her grain. Right. It's the same arm, but it just looks like I've just been beat. And I I haven't. My husband does not beat me. It's my cow. It's your cow. It's my cow. But she does it in like a loving way. Like I'm like, that's it's like her head. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. And so like I tell everybody don't pat her head because then she like thinks she gets all excited and will Yeah. Ugh. Anyways, I love her. She she's great. She's definitely a personality, but yeah, don't switch up her grain. Golly. The other day speaking on the milk cow topic, I was milking. And Do you still have that one that you have to like give grain to constantly to milk? No. And that one was in training. okay, sorry. Go ahead. Continue. But there's one mini or smaller jersey. Yeah. And there's a milk machine now. which is fabulous. works great, especially on Daisy, because her tits are very tiny, especially the what the back ones. It's like a two-finger strip. Yep, that's right. Ten out of ten. So I like going milk. And the milk machine stuff just wasn't where it normally was. And it was like kind of in the far corner. Mm-hmm. And it was and there was like pieces scattered all over the room, kind of whatever. And I was like, I guess Maybe it's not working. Whatever. It's fine. And like, oh my word, was she a butt? yeah, she'd want a part of it. yeah. She will she does not want to be hand milked anymore. It's funny how they become a custom, hey? Yeah. She's And she'd be hand milked for so long. Yeah. Like a year on the machine and she's like, Don't you dare touch me with your hands. How dare you nasty peasant fingers. And like it was a disaster. Yeah, like it took so long to make an and I was so mad. Like, I don't swear. No. I almost did at the time. I didn't even almost. It was a solid almost swear. It was. There was it popped into my head. The idea did. You're so sorry. The word so funny. The bad word. Yeah, so I was so mad. I was like, why? Jorim gets so mad at the cows so easily. The second time, the second day, I was like, well, whatever. If the milk machine doesn't work, I don't know. Did you call anybody about it? No. They were gone. And like You Not like she can't be handled. Like I can do it. Yeah. I'm not gonna be calling about like, hey, by the way, then it's more work for her. She should have just stayed home. Yeah, a hundred percent. Okay go. I I support you. Yeah, I support. Anyways, so I'm like, okay, well I'll just like grab the machine and stuff. Try it. And she was still mad. She's so offended at you. Yeah. But is it do you think it's cause it wasn't her person milking her? I think so too. And I had like tried to hand milk. Which in fairness I got just as much hand milking. As what the machine the machine pulls. Yeah. So she did let down. Yeah. She was just like I had to tie it both feet because she just kept kicking. And like not like the pail. Like she was kicking out at me. Yeah, she away. Like she knew what she was doing. yeah, yeah, 100%. And I was like, my gosh. That's not funny. I will hit you with a stick. Do not two can play this game. Yeah. Do not do that to me. That's like we we're grain finishing one to direct market. Like we normally grass feed all or grass finish all of ours, but we have one that's younger, so we're gonna grain finish them. And this steer, he's super friendly. Like its Jaws calf. He's super friendly. But the the other day when I was trying to get Birdy in, he was like butting his head around at me and he's never done that. I was like, do it again and find out what happens. And I was so annoyed. And he like put his head down and like did the thing. And I was like, I will put my foot to your snout if you do it. And I literally that's all I said. And then he just walked away. I must have been radiating rage. Yeah. Because he literally just like walked behind me after that. He didn't like I must have been in a mood. Yeah. He was like, she's here. Do not mess with her. Anyways. Okay. I don't think I've said this one on the podcast. when Jorim and I were first dating. Have I said this? I don't know. That was a very vague start. When Jorim and I were first dating. You can't read my mind? No. It's rude. he was like, you know, 16, really cool cowboy dude. And he was like, yeah, look, I can rope a calf. So he was like showing me that he could rope a calf. And he went this is like on his on feet. And he and this and then he drug and this dude at sixteen weighed ninety pounds wet. With rocks in his pocket. Yes. Like little gaffer. Little gaffer. So Jorim how do you feel about that? Yeah, how did that feel? Yeah. How did that start a dating? He would agree. So, anyways. He like ropes this thing and yes, he gets drugg across like I kid you not, I'm at the bottom of the field. He's like at the top, so I'm like Trins like, I'll be over here, don't mind me. And he was so far away. It was like it was like in a movie. He's just like getting drugs, like all the way across the field. It was so funny. Then finally I think he got like a good footing and then got it and took his rope off or whatever. He's like, look at what I can do. So he just did it for fun, just to show you that he could do it. Yeah. Like it didn't even need to be anything. No. I don't think it even needed to be doctored or anything. Keith actually did that. He had to doctor it. Yeah. We were I think we were married. Must have been married. And yeah, it was. It was the yeah the fires came through because we had a doctor calf that got had a wolf bite on her like in her thigh. So w obviously we don't have horses, but he roped her on foot Yeah. Tried to wrap around the tree. And he did, but she just like womped him apart and I was like, he's like jumping. I was like, where? No. No. And literally he was like, he got it sorted out himself, but I literally he was like looking at me for help. I was like, in what world? How was I supposed to? And he was like, what do you mean? I was like, nah, that doesn't look like my department. I'm good at a lot of things. I didn't that. No. That's not it. Nope. Absolutely not. No. I could not. When we were first married these men boys show it off. He technically wasn't showing off, but we worked at a feedlot, but then they also had like yearlings before they went to the feedlot, so they'd run on pasture. So he went we went out. And like this man is not fra afraid of horses. He will get on anything. Yes. Anywhere, anytime. Yeah. He's on. And he's pretty sticky. Pretty sticky. But like this horse, kid you not, would buck a saddle pad out up and down the alley. She would not quit. no. Like did he know this about this horse before he jumped on? Well, see, I think there were some red flags when his buddy says, Hey, I have a horse that I can't ride. And he is also a cowboy. one would assume you probably shouldn't be taking this free horse. Yeah. Funny thing is she actually turned out really well. Yeah. Because she always piled everybody. So then she just wouldn't quit till she got you off. But she couldn't buck David off. Her saddle padd flying out the back and he he'd be stuck. So she finally quit. Yeah. And then I rode her. She was great. I loved her. Yeah. my gosh. We sold her someone up in Alaska, I think. really? wow. But they must have let her get away with something once. And she bucked And she apparently wouldn't quit on them. But like she was good for me. I'd ride a bare back. I'd do everything. Everything. Yeah. Everything. I loved her. Yeah. Anyways, this was before that. She was still yeah, like it was a lot. A lot of there's David. Up and down the alley he goes. Yeah. No. So he takes her out because she finally is like controlled enough to like leave. And like that seems like he didn't start riding till he was sixteen. So it's not like he has yeah, years of No. I guess his what got him going was he got on a horse. I think he'd been on a few like old plug horses. And then he got on this mare. She must have been pretty young. And it took off. Like ran away. And he was like, This is my calling. Yeah. This is my exact thing. That's exactly what happened. Almost This is for me. This is for me. This is for me. I could do this. That man is an adrenaline junkie. Yes. Golly. So we take I'm out, he's out. Like my family works cows with horses, but like It's not like not like the cowboy or no. Like it's different. Yeah. And like I roped, but not like a ton of roping. So we go out to treat this yearling. It's probably like six hundred pounds. I don't actually know. Yeah. He ropes it on flannon. Flannon? Flannon. That was her name? Yeah. Flannon Okay. And she was pretty sh small too. and so he ropes And then she I think she took off Buckin and like it was like this whole thing and then like I brought him his rope but and he's like heal it and I'm like I d I don't know how and like this is a gong show And like you're yelling at the horse and then you're yelling at me because she's stupid and then like it all escalated. Yeah and it's not going good. It's yeah. So eventually she piles him because he's trying to like keep the calf keep the heifer that they have to treat and keep her from like completely blowing out. And so he f she finally gets them like piled. Yeah. And then the dow so then this man, instead of just being like, okay, well, you know what? This isn't working out. This didn't work out. No, no, no. He grabbed the edge of the rope and proceeded to manhandle the six hundred pound yearling or whatever it was to the ground. And then he's like, Where were you? Where were you? Not there. I ain't helping you with that. I was far away. Yeah. I was calling the other I understand that you needed help, but like this situation escalated so far past me even knowing how to help. Yeah. Like before your horse started bucking. I was like, okay, I'll heel it. This is fine. Yeah. And then it just escalated. Yeah. And he's like, well, this was a lot of work. I'm like, I know, but I would have like Yeah, eventually he eva I think he eventually got it like choked down. Yeah. And then flip, don't do that. And then wrapped it. Yes, it is. Because then they're mean They're yeah. And she was hunting him. yeah. You would be. And his horse broke the reins and like took off. Yeah. So I went and got her and brought him back. Yeah. And then he's like, Where were you? k do either of your husbands ever just like You are the only help sometimes. Like as a wife or as a partner in the whatever in the farming operation, you are the only help. There's times. Have you ever been put into a situation you're like this is so far out of my comfort level, my pay grade, everything? But because you're the only help, you don't have a choice but to like help him with like with it. Do you know what I'm trying to say? Like okay, what in what way? I don't Okay, that's not me because Jorim always has his brothers. I guess. I'll share one though. My husband acts like he's always good. Like he'll unload the feed sacks and the salt, like anything heavy, he'll he'll lift for me. Right? It's great. Then there's times where he was like, Hey, I need your help. Like we had to go the the wall that we like used for our barn is part of an old shop that we that was like falling down. So it's like heavy. It's built well. Super heavy. It was in the bush kind of at Granny and Granddad's like it's been kind of overgrown. He it was like the middle of winter. He's like, hey, I need your help like packing out this wall so I can hook it up to the 'cause we couldn't get in there with like the tractor. It was it was stupid heavy. Like way over what I can lift and I enjoy lifting somewhat heavy weights. He was like, Yeah, I just need your help, it'll be fine. I was just about flattened by this wall. Okay, not only is it so tall and he had to like tip it, he's yeah, just let it down easy. Like, you're like, how? No. You're like, I will run away. Also, there's like almost a big difference. Yeah, like there's like an eight-inch difference between us. Like, what? So, anyways, he's like, Yeah, just I'm like, I can't even I'll just put my arms up, I guess. Like, I don't know, whatever. So we get it down. Then he's like, okay, lift that side, we'll pack it out. And you're like, Pardon? He's like, okay, lift it. So I was and I did it through the snow. Mind you, he's got four feet of legs. I ain't got that. No. So he's like huffing. I was like, you need to slow down. Like, and I am like huffing and puffin'. And we get that thing loaded. It was, yeah, good job. Like that, whatever. No, he didn't. He was like, okay, let's go do this. Like it wasn't even good job. it was like the next day or whatever. I went to like lift, let me get that. That's so heavy. I was like, in what Did you just see what you made me lift out of that thing and how heavy that was? I'm pretty sure I can like handle this. Like I appreciate you lifting heavy things for me, but I was like, you never ever tell me something is too heavy when you need my help. Ever. Like you're like, it'll be fine. I was so sore for like four days afterwards. My shoulders, I swear, just had like a pump for like two solid days. Like you're like popping off. I look like Popeye. Yeah. Like, what is that? No. Like I get that I and in his defense, it was for my milking barn. Okay. Okay. So it's not like I had a lot of ground to be like, go find other help. It was for me. It was a benefit to me. Yeah. But it was like so heavy. That's so funny. And it was the like was like January. Mm-hmm. Like what are we cold and heavy. Yeah, cold and heavy. Like s and he was like, i guess you won't freeze? Yeah. I was sweating like a pig. I was my gosh. I was so h I like stripping layers. Yeah. And he he was like, What did he say on the what was it? It was like, could you lift that higher? I this is me at my max capa this is me at my tallest. Higher where? Where are you getting six extra inches? Yeah. Like no. And he doesn't even think twice of it. No. I know you have a story of your husband needing 'cause you sent him the text with a picker. There's been a few situations like timber framing. Yes. But he'll like h need me to help like stand all the timbers up and like most of the time sometimes like your brother in law came out and helped once and who else? Well my brother. Yeah, your brother-in-law. Yeah, yours. Yeah, yours. What you say? I was whose brother-in-law? Then I realized it was mine. Sorry. It's yours. It's mine. Continue. Sorry. And like these things are heavy. Like green wood, like 10 by 10s, but it's not just like a beam. It's like the whole section. We to take an intermission because my cat was hauling off her kittens because Lacey's daughter was in her room and that was just the most disrespectful thing to the cat. To the cat. So that's very rude. Pip was upset and we had to rearrange everybody so that I don't have kittens under my bed. Cause I'm willing to do a lot of things, but I'm not willing to do that. That they already spent three nights under there. And that was enough. Just a little meowing. Yeah, and they're like tumbling around. Ripping around. Yeah. Yeah, that's the thing with kittens. They just rip around everywhere. And she just like comes in like yelling for them. I'm like, you put them there. You know where they are. Yeah. Zip it. Get under there and go do what you gotta do. I hate that. It's not my jam. That's funny. Okay, so this one time Jorim and I were going for a ride. Probably like one of ten rides in my entire life. And he has this one horse. His name is Brow. He doesn't ride him that much anymore. And this horse is like what do you call it? Like barn what's it called? Like you're It's always trying to go home? Yes. Like barn bound or something like that. Anyway, yeah, so we're like trying to go up this field and he just like wants to turn the whole time. I'm like, this is so annoying. This horse is like thinks he's can get me, so then you just turn him around and keep on going. Anyways, so we get to the top, we get to the gate, it's this like wire gate. I think we were moving cows. I can't remember why I was doing what I was doing. Because you were so focused on trying not to go back to the barn. Focusing. Because then okay, no. This is what happened. I was at the top of the field. Jorim was at the bottom of the field. With he was like moving cows to the next field down or something, like by the barnyard. And so like there was a lot of commotion going on down there. And so I was like, like I thought I was so cool and Jorim like can ground tie his horses like very well. So I'm like, This horse is ground tied, it's fine. Like I'll just like, you know, drop the reins the rein and then this horse won't move. Cause I was like, okay, I wanna like Tie up this gate so we don't forget so that this gate is closed. Meanwhile, I'm like tying up this gate, I look behind me, the horse is gone. left you and see a girlfriend, bye-bye. my gosh. I have the funniest story on that note. no! Okay, go. Okay, so I had a horse when I was a kid, and she was like my horse. I got her as a baby. Yeah. And at two, I started riding her. I was like twelve. Trained her. Whatever. She was my horse. She was super quirky. Yeah. Quirky. Define that for me. well. Your sister-in-law tried to ride her and she crow hopped her off into a cowpie. Okay, quirky. Got it. And like every time you'd break her into a lope, she'd crow hop. Like three or four jumps in. Yeah. She's still to this day. Old as she is. Yeah. Crow hops. Crow hops on my nephew. no. Anyways, so but like otherwise she's she's good. She's good. She's fine. Yeah. And like it's not like an extreme. It's like these like she's lazy. So it's like this half yeah. Whatever. Yeah. You know. So it's like it's fine, it doesn't matter. Yeah. So my brothers had a friend over and he wanted to ride. Horses are so they're like very Finicky and picky. Yeah. And they know, like they know who is riding them and who is not riding them. Yeah, they do. Yeah. And they make that decision very quickly. yeah. when I was a kid, my uncle had a horse. Yeah. My aunt, whatever. His wife had a horse. I can't. I don't even know. Whatever. Somebody had a horse. Somebody a horse. Anyways, its name was Panda. It was like super fat. I remember her always saying that. She was like, Stupid whatever. But we were we were only allowed to ride it bareback. Whatever, that's fine. Probably because I don't know if a saddle didn't fit or if that's just what her rule is. I can't remember. I genuinely don't know. There are horses that are too fat and saddles don't work. Yeah, so I I don't remember. Anyways, he was his name is Panda. My cousin like got on him, whatever, we're like trying to ride him. I'm on it. It's my turn to ride. Yeah. This horse all of a sudden just starts laying down. Like as you're on it. I I'm on it. Trying to ride it. It first probably went to roll. Nope. It just literally laid down. Just wanted it. I got off of it, just hanging out. I don't know. I was petrified. Because it's like you're kind of like sliding down its back a little you know, like Yeah. I guess so. He didn't no no, he didn't go to he kinda went front and then he went to the back. Yeah, like no, I understand. My hor my beginner childhood horse. Every time on the way home in the exact same spot in the field just before the field hit the lawn, he rolled. Really? Yeah. And you'd bail off and he'd run for home and you walked. See? Every single time. And the older we got and the more we're like, we won't ever let him. Like, nope, we won't let him. He's still still. Nope, didn't matter. He was rolling right there and then he ran home. That's Jorims one horse. As soon as he puts him back into the pen. He like goes two feet, rolls, does another roll, shakes, and then runs away. Yeah. They just have these little like quirks. Quirks. I rode a camel, it's not on the topic of a quirk. You rode a camel? I did when I was in Egypt. And the camel that my girlfriend was on was trying to bite everybody. It just kept trying to bite every like it was done. Huh. Because they like sell these things out to get ridden all day, every day by the guy like joke like, she's a little bit moody to d like it was an issue. Whatever the issue was, like it was going on all day. But then for like camels are obviously very tall, it's awkward. It started they like obviously have to sit it down so that you can get on on and off. Well when I was trying to I was getting on or getting off. I was it just like and my face in the video was like I was like, no, I was trying to bite you. No, it wasn't trying to bite it it was just standing up. It was just standing up. But then I did get too close to my girlfriends, and it did try to. It was not happening. I probably have a video of that too. It was nipping everything. That's funny. Anyways, very moody. Horses can get like that too, like Caddy. Yeah. My sister's horse. She rode this little paint pony. Yeah. I don't know. He was something paints are kind of their own little panda's a pony panda was a paint too that fat horse that just yeah said we're done with you and this thing thought he was a pig a pig really yeah like any sort of water mud puddle he's rolling or like yeah like he's going in so there was like this little tiny pond on our yard and like he just like if you rode him past like he wasn't well trained And so like there was not a lot of control and like straight in. Like so many times she's like swimming out. Because he's rolling in the mud. You go out moving cows, like you keep him away from the any dog. Because he's be he's rolling. He's taking your saddle and he's rolling. Yeah, he's done. He don't care about that. Ooh. I think he's a pig. Yeah. my goodness. Yeah, I could not. That's hilarious. The this was like Three years ago, Jorim his rodeo career lasted two years and then he was done. So this is his first year that he was in the rodeo and I was just like joking and I was like, Okay, babe, like don't get bucked off and this horse like no I don't think she's ever bucked him off. Then he like gets in, they do their first like Was he roping or what? I can't remember. It was a team rodeo. Yeah, yeah. It was a team something. Yeah. So there's four of them. And I think I think two of them were like on this end of the pen. Two of them are on the other end of the pen. You know, they're doing whatever. And I'm like watching like the other guys on like the end that we were at. And everybody else was like watching Jorim And he literally just like gets bucked right off of his horse Yeah. Did you see it? No, I missed it. that's a shame. It was so sad. Especially because he said, Don't get bucked off, babe. I was like joking so hard. I was like, ha ha ha. And then he goes and gets bucked off. Yeah, that is not Yeah. Yeah Ugh. I don't know. Like I love the idea of horses, but the idea just get f flopping in the air, not for me. Yeah, no. I don't have very good, like balance. It would improve if you rode. Prop yes, but if I got a horse that didn't Do you know what I mean? Like, I think I'd spend a lot of time Not on the horse. Potentially just not on the horse. Well, like I feel like you probably shouldn't like get a horse that's at your level. Like probably, you know, get an old that's not Well yeah, that's the thing too, is like if you get somebody else's horse that they have trained, that they have done all this stuff, they don't they're not gonna listen to you either. You need to like either retrain or know exactly what that person did. And some of it's just you actually need to know what you're doing. Yeah. Because probably I could get on one of Jorims horses. Yes. And they would act a whole lot different than if you were to get on one of Jorims horses. Exactly. And like if if the person uses spurs or not. Or like if they use their hand to move them or not. Well, some of just know how committed you are and like how much you know. Yeah. They can feel it. As soon as you get on. yeah. Like, we can get away with her. Yes. Exactly. Yeah. So I'm like, no, I'm fine. Not for me. I'm okay. I like it's very romantic. go on a horse ride. Like you end up in the mud and walking home. Yeah, I don't know. It is like such this like romanticized thing. It is. Like I I mean, don't be wrong, I rode a few like at just at my grandparents' house or whatever. Like it's nice. And I think it's like very yeah, it's it's it's enjoyable because there's a lot of enjoyment behind it. The day that I get bucked off and have to walk home, I have a feeling that that style of an enjoyment probably not happened. We're done. That might be See, I don't like just going out and pleasure riding. No. No, I feel like it's funner to get Jorim to he's like working with them. Yeah. Just like Yeah, but like moving cows, like that's still enjoyable work. yeah, that's but like trail riding, no the only thing you can focus on is that the saddle is uncomfortable and your butt hurts. And like even if it's your saddle, it takes longer for the thought process to get there. But I'm pretty sure that trail rides were just like designed to make you think about your butt. And how sore it is. How uncomfortable the saddle is? Yeah. That's funny. Like what else are you gonna focus on? What are you like just like what are you looking at? Enjoy the nature. Yeah, but see you could do that when you're trotting out across a field to go get cows. You're not She likes to have purpose. Yes. Ride with purpose. Yeah. That's Jorim with job It's even like when you ride a fence line and you're checking fence, it's not the same. Because you're out doing 'cause you're out doing something. But when you're like, I'm just gonna like go for a leisurely stroll, then you're like, My butt hurts. My butt never hurts. I can ride like twelve hours in this saddle and my butt doesn't hurt. Yeah. Why does it hurt thirty minutes in? Yeah. That's true. Did I ever tell it the story about Dave the Rooster? I don't know. Why there so many Dave's in our podcast? My sister was like, is it Dave the father-in-law? Or Dave, like Lacey's husband? I will never refer to him as Dave for anyone. Yes. Any information on the podcast. Lacey's husband is David And my father-in-law will always be Dave. Dave. But you also call him Dad. yeah. And my father-in-law. Okay, so it's Dave, Dad, or my father-in-law. Yeah. But if I'm referring to like my biological dad, I will say my dad. Yeah. And if I'm referring to my stepdad, it'll be stepdad or You call him Curtis. Curtis. Yeah. Yeah, there's a lot of dads. I and Dave. There's lot of Dave's. Yeah, but no, Dave will always never be your David. Yeah. If that's the differentiating line. Yours is Dave. Dave. Mine is David. Yes, love it. Okay, speaking of Dave, you have a Dave story. I do have a Dave story, but not the same Dave. after clarifying the whole thing. Clarifying a lovely. Okay. Well, no, I have to differentiate it because when I said this, what okay, I'll just tell the story and then I'll tell the background. I had this rooster that my mother-in-law gave me, and then she was like, he's really easy going, da da da. All of a sudden, when he was the only rooster in the flock, he was very mean. Yeah. He kept trying to attack me every time I tried to like go in the chicken coop. Yeah. And then one day I like on the phone with my mom and I was checking for eggs, which was like down in the barnyard, whatever. And Dave blocked me. Nope. The rooster, before I named him Dave, the rooster blocked me in the chicken house. And I was in flip-flops. And he was trying to attack me. Me and I could I was like had the feed bucket and I was like trying to shoo him out of the way and I yelled like what did I say I was quit it was like it's like the Snickers commercial like quit don't be a Dave because you like eat a Snickers don't be a Dave or whatever that so I kept saying that my mom was killing herself like I totally forgot she's on the phone okay like this is all like what she's killing herself and I was like what is so funny sh why are you talking about your father in law like that? No, the rooster. I was talking about a rooster. But then then that was like the joke between us. So then we had to be very careful to differentiate between Dave the Rooster, if it was a bad comment, and Dave as in my father in law. But it never occurred to me because while I was getting attacked, I was just thinking about how rude this guy was being, how out of character he was being, and how he just needed a Snickers bar, not as in like my father in law Dave. Yeah. Yeah, this rooster was terrible. And you tell people we ate Dave for supper. Yeah, like do that. Yeah. Ugh. That's a that's all. That's my only other Dave story. That'll be the only time that guy makes a the the podcast. Yeah. Is that he was short lived. He was very mean. Yeah. The fox got him, so it was for the better. Yeah. But yeah, I was literally like carrying on like a PVC pipe. Every like it didn't matter where everybody in their life has owns chickens. Has a rooster story. A mean rooster story. Yeah. It's hor and then I had Skulllet, which was like a rooster that I tried to save out of all those chickens that I hatched that one year. He kept attacking me. Yeah. Marvin got me like on the I had Is he the really pretty one? No. Marvin died. Marvin He didn't make it. Apparently if you got more than one rooster they're less mean. Like if you have two roosters, they're too busy con competing with each other. Right. To be like competing with you. Yeah. Yeah, the one I have right now, he hasn't shown any meanness. Yeah. But I find as they get older, they do get a little bit more mean. When I had boss, he never attacked anybody. He was the best rooster. Yeah. Never attacked anybody. Always like guarded the door. I love having a rooster. I do too. Funny. I have a chicken story. For the person that loves chickens just so dearly. Yeah. it's not my chicken story. Okay. It's like the one childhood story that my dad would tell that was really funny. Okay. And then my kids think it's really funny. So they obviously had free range chickens, homesteading. How do you obviously So he's like riding his bike across the across the lawn. And this chicken out of nowhere runs straight into the spoke of his bike and just like rolls him. And my grandma walks out of the house for my dad to be like looking over this dead chicken, being like, stupid chicken, stupid chicken, we'll have you for supper tonight. And then grandma always ended the story with like yeah, we had chicken soup for supper. So now every time the kids ride the bike they're bikes That's what they think of. It's like anytime I go through the barnyard, Granny and Dave always tell the story about how they had these geese. And if you had to like r like run or like ride your bike really fast through like the kids. Because they'd go after you. Because they'd go after you. Yeah. So like one got caught up in a quad tire because it just kept attacking the tires of things. And I think one got caught up in the bike tire, maybe the other one. Were these like did they purposely buy these things? Yeah they were to protect I'm assuming protect the chickens. Well they were protecting No, but they were like so mean but I think Granny I can't remember. I wanna say they didn't attack Granny. I think. There was like just yeah, I don't know. I think that's what she said. I I could be way off the mark I could be corrected on this. But apparently, yeah, the kids would like come down for second breakfast. Which is I think hilarious. They would eat breakfast up at mom and dad's. And then they c and then they ripped up. but that's what you do. Grandparents that close Absolutely you're doing that. A hundred percent. yeah, if my if my kids eat at my place and then they're going to their grandparents right afterwards, it's always like they walk in and they're like, Hey, what can we eat? Yeah. Can we have breakfast? We're starving. Yeah. Yeah. So anyways, the boys always show if we're going to get like second breakfast. Yeah. And they'd have to like go past these these geese. So I really want geese. Really? To keep people out of your yard. No, just to like p protect my chickens when they're big. Yeah, you put at the end of your driveway, you'd be all right. Nobody's coming up. If the pothole wasn't enough, we have added geese. We have added geese. I do I want geese so bad. I just think they're a great little creature and good protectors. But I don't want them to attack me. my goodness. And they run fast. yeah. And they bite, don't they? Like they clamp down on you. Yeah, they at you. They like nibble at you. The other thing too is I always go in like inappropriate footwear to check my chicken. So I'll be pissed if I get clamped on. Yeah. Like the idea is cute and I think they're really pretty. But I also have really enjoyed not having to carry like a PVC pipe with to like shoe anything mean away. So I don't I don't know what the line is. Yeah. Anyways. And like little godslings because they're so fluffy. they're fine. They would be so cute. Not that I need another hobby. They're like loud and annoying though. Yeah, they are. Yeah, they are. We'd probably not. I have been sleeping with earplugs in. Why? Okay, no, hold on. So you don't know if anybody's driving into your yard or not? No. But that's up for debate right now, anyways. So we've been like sleeping with the AC on, but now it's starting to like cool off. But the big dogs are home right now because the herds right there right close right now. So the middle ground is right here. so they've just been barking. And I apparently there's like a grizzly in our area, according to a neighbor. Okay. Told us. Told Keith the other day. So like they've been on higher alert for like probably the last ten days, pretty steady. I have not slept. And then the AC we're not using it because it's not cold enough or not hot enough to be using it. Yeah. But that's what was drowning them out before. So then I tried for like a couple nights to put like I don't I'm not a white noise person. Like you know how some babies sleep with white noise? My niece had that and the one time we babysat her, I could hear it from upstairs. I said, That has gotta go. We are not listening to that all night. I cannot. No. So I tried white noise on my phone, still wasn't sleeping. And Keith though I Can you fall asleep to like an audiobook or something? No, because I want to listen to it. I always I put it in and then I used to at one point. But then yeah, but if the timer is done and it's two AM, I'm being woken up. Really? Because they don't what my dogs aren't gonna go like, her timer's off. Guess we should not bark now. Yeah, like that's not all that works. But yeah, so last night I literally was so desperate I went and grabbed ear plugs And I slept really good until three o'clock when they apparently fell out of my ears. And I still don't know where they are. Interesting. I was probably super bad for your ears, but I just crave Like the day that we were supposed to go berry picking, like Sunday night, I went to bed with a migraine, had two hours of sleep between seven and nine AM. Was supposed to go picking. Yeah. Like mom was gonna pick me up at like six. Yeah. I text her at four and I was like, can't make it. Because I hadn't slept and my migraine was so bad and the dogs barked all night. Meanwhile, my husband sleeping peacefully beside me and like nothing is happening. I was like, do you not hear them going buck wild? I always d wake up Jorim. I'm like, if I'm awake. Your like these are your dogs. And yeah, and it's so funny because I'll These are your dogs, like you wanted them too. And I was like, For the cows, why are they home? But the cows are around right now. Yeah. Yeah. Anyways, it's fine. And the one has like taken up to sleeping on Moodog's bed on the deck. And she's like our female is kinda like the more aggressive one out of the three. Right. She was like barking on the deck, but we've got like a tin roof over the deck, obviously. Yeah. It was just like echoing. It was like ringing in my ears. Like I woke, like it felt like somebody just hit like a tambourine beside my head when I woke up and I was like, get off the deck. And the other thing that sets them off, which is super interesting, is that propane plant, like to the west of us, northwest of us. They send off like a a siren everything, probably once a month or something like that. Or like an alarm. It's probably an emergency, whatever. But it sounds it's interesting because it almost always brings the wolves in. Like the couple, if not the night after, a few days, within a few days, they'll circle back around I think it's because it sounds like a weird howling. Like it's a terrible noise. But our big door dogs go berserk. Like go right on alert for it. As soon as that alarm goes off. So that alarm was going off while I was milking this morning. So then they were yipping and barking and headed out that way and Birdy was not having anything. You would have thought they were barking beside her. They were nowhere near her and she was like, my gosh I've been distracted Anyways, needless to say I need to find a sleeping mechanism that drowns out the dogs enough that like when they're just white noise is just what people do though. Yeah, but white noise is horrible. It's a horrible noise. Yeah, but isn't your AC basically a white noise? Yeah, but I don't enjoy it. I sleep on because it's I'd rather sleep with that than be forty-five degrees upstairs. Yeah. I'm I don't know. And you don't get used to it. I guess probably by the end of it, but then when I switch it from like the A C to like nothing. Yeah, I don't know. Yeah. And then the other thing too is you don't really want too much because sometimes if there is wolves and they're outnumbered The big dog will come up on the deck and he has a warning call that we like we listen to and then Keith will go and see what's going on. Do you know what I mean? Like he'll go check the cows if something's bad. Like that's so there is like a happy medium, but I was like, We don't even have kids yet. And I feel like I'm at the stage of like a newborn with no sleep. I'm up every hour. I'm like, I don't have kids. I need to your dogs are here. Yes, just my dogs. The dogs are home. I know. How long are they here for? We're doing ca we're doing calves early. Did I you about this? No. What do mean? You're like processing We're processing early, which means we're shortening up our breeding season just a smidge. Ooh. So that's really exciting. On it's by ten days, so we'll be at like ten weeks. Yeah. Versus like eleven or whatever. We count it out. The goal is to get to eight. Nice. So and that also makes it nice because when we leave for my brother's wedding, it won't be like exactly when. Well, and it like we were gonna do it the day before we left. But then things just have to get like sent out and it's just gonna be like an absolute runaround. Too crazy. So we're gonna do we're doing Cows on our anniversary, which was super funny. My girlfriend texted, I like, Hey, we're doing it whatever and she like I was like on the nineteenth and she was like On your anniversary question mark? And I was like, What better way to spend my anniversary than doing cows? Heck yeah, let's go. Okay. Plus what else would you be doing? Yeah, what else would you do? Spending the day away from each other or no cow. Yeah, let's just go do cows. Just do cows together. Then we get to go on a nice trip afterwards to celebrate. So take it. Exactly. Should we do a recipe this week? Yeah. What do you got? I have a chai. It's like a chai concentrate recipe. It's so good. That'd be cool. Let me find it, people. Are you a big chai Yeah, you are a big chai drinker, aren't you? Okay, here it is. It's Kate's Chai syrup. Okay. This is from Venison for Dinner. And it's called Kate's Chai Syrup. Listen, it's becoming fall, my friends. And I'm embracing it. We're pumpkin spice. Last week or a couple pumpkin at some point. We are chai We are into it. Okay, so this is like you have like a gallon of water Then you add cinnamon sticks and cloves and peppercorns and cardamom pods and ginger and then you like let it steam for an hour and then you add sh some sugar Like a boil? Like a Or not like a boil, but like a light boil, I would say. Okay. Okay. Like a nice like simmer. Simmer. okay. Nice simmer pot. A nice simmer pot. Then you add sugar or honey. And then you add then you like mix that in. You turn it off. You put in your black tea. Some like loose leaf black tea. And then you just Like any black tea? Like any black tea. And then you steep it for like it's only like five minutes. Really? And then you strain it out. Boom. So good. And then you just add it to milk. Like you warm it up, obviously. Yeah. But like it's so good. And it's easy because you pep prepped in a big batch. Yes, and I would way rather that than like actually making like a tea bag of chai. Also, concentrate is stronger than a bag. Yes. Yeah. Because I use like just a tiny bit and then like this much milk. Yeah. And it still tastes pretty strong sometimes. Yeah, that's good. Yeah, it's so good. Mine is French onion meatballs. Ooh. So like instead of French onion soup, you put meatballs on it. But like you like cook it down. So you like caramel put a lot of butter in, caramelize your onions in like a big cast iron. Yeah. Cook them right down. Like get them nice and golden. Yeah. Like really juicy. Add in a couple cups of beef broth. Throw in your browned meatballs. Put mozzarella all over the top and throw in some croutons. crutons Yeah, for like the crunch? Like you know, 'cause it absorbs or like whatever. Or you do toast. Or toast, whatever, like thick in there. Bake it. Let it get nice and ooey gooey and juicy. And does that fill you up? yeah. No, you throw it over rice. And so it's like rice and then it's like it's so good 'cause it's like a soupy Without being super soupy, but it's got like a sa again, big on the sauces. Sauce, onions, cheese. It's got a you know what I mean? Yeah. That sounds really good. Also very doable for farm suppers Cozy. Yeah. You can there's one recipe I think I found you can cook the rice right in the pot with everything. I don't love doing that though. So yeah, totally could do that. I just suck at cooking rice. I cook my rice in a rice cooker and then separated up but you could totally do it in one pot meal and then just yeah dish and it's nice to be like a big batch of it. Yeah freezes really good well really good as well. Yeah. What recipe you got? Well we had a box of peaches and so I've been doing like stuff with peaches and I made peach salsa. that's smashing that's very summer but very smashing. Yeah. Ugh yeah. Do you put cilantro on yours? Or you cilantro gal or no? Yeah. But I didn't have cilantro. okay. So I used like a garamocille seasoning. Mm-hmm. Really? Yeah. And then it's like pepper hot peppers. Yeah. I did not use So do you do like chips with it? No, I did it over I did like steak strips. And then in like a taco. yum. yeah, that was great. There was Leftover So then yet last night I did over rice with chicken wings. Ooh. That would be good. I pulled out no meat for dinner. Yeah, me either. I have not planned any dinner. It might be a town. Okay. Sorry, that was just when you were like chicken wings, I was like, I've got nothing. You're like, what am I doing? I've been so good. Okay, dang. There's still time. It's fine. You can put it in a bag and water and it's fine. You're good. All right. That's it then. Yeah. Thanks. All right guys, have a good week.
