- 0:43All right, let's move on with this video.
- 0:45Okay, so about a month or so ago, I did a video talking about
- 0:48how severe the Australian musician had made a movie about
- 0:52autism called music, where she has the lead character in the
- 0:56movie, who is a an autistic girl, who is nonverbal and has
- 1:01high support needs, is played by the dancer / now.
- 1:05Actor, Maddie Ziegler, who is basically casting anything that
- 1:08see, it does. Now there's a big who her about
- 1:10this and a lot of Came out, and I did the video because see, I
- 1:15had a bit of a backlash. Like, when people commented on
- 1:18her, her ability, to choose somebody who was fitting for the
- 1:22character, not choosing an autistic person for the
- 1:25character when people said like, hey, what's the process and do
- 1:28you, what, you did your research with?
- 1:29How did you find out about autism?
- 1:30What's the thing was? The connection.
- 1:32Blah blah, blah. See, I went on a rampage and
- 1:34like was violently tweeting people saying, like you're not a
- 1:36very good actor and you know, you don't know me in the movies,
- 1:39not even out yet and shut the heck up.
- 1:41And choose just aggressively horrible.
- 1:43I'll leave a link for that video around here somewhere.
- 1:46So, in the description of this video, I will leave a link for
- 1:49that video. If you wanna see the original
- 1:50one, but in this video I wanted to do an update because since
- 1:55that video came out and the whole Community, autism can see
- 1:58had a huge black collection or friend of mine page that video
- 2:00on it friend of mine. Chloe did a video on it.
- 2:03Everybody, I know really did a video on it which is why I'm
- 2:06doing this video so I came across a task on the BBC and
- 2:09says asea has said sorry to the autism community.
- 2:12Is he for the controversial film music, which is the film in
- 2:14question, right? So it said that the doctoral
- 2:18debut, music attached controversy online after it was
- 2:22nominated for a Golden Globes awards.
- 2:24So the movie was nominated for a Golden Gloves award because of
- 2:27course you have quite a bit, you know, hard-hitting, we read
- 2:29anything about autism is going to be quite hard hitting because
- 2:31it's such a interesting topic and it's quite a difficult and
- 2:34sensitive topic for a lot of people because, you know, you
- 2:36got to think one in 60 people in the US are diagnosed with autism
- 2:39and one in 100, in the UK. So, there's a lot of People are
- 2:42touched by this CSS said that, that, you know, that she now
- 2:45realizes that some of the scenes in the movie are wrong.
- 2:48So in the movie that I restraint seems, we're basically the
- 2:51holding down the autistic, girl that restraining her from
- 2:54moving, which is a kind of a No-No.
- 2:56You mean, this is stuff of the bad types of ABA therapy and ABA
- 3:00therapy in the Badlands of it. You don't want to kind of really
- 3:05justify because a lot of ABA is kind of quite negative and can
- 3:08impact people - ways. So this is kind of justifying.
- 3:12Restraint of autistic people. It shouldn't be the way you want
- 3:13to, definitely not the way I see it.
- 3:15I feel like it and I guess a lot of the autistic Community as
- 3:18well, feel the same way, we should be restraining people.
- 3:20We should be riding through it and coping in therapeutically
- 3:23dealing with the issues at hand. So, there are scenes of
- 3:26restraint within the movie. But now CSS in this article, she
- 3:30has removed the scenes, which is also added a restraint warning
- 3:37to the start of the movie. But it's in saying that she had
- 3:39a restraint one, and she actually said that, she's now,
- 3:41Now, she plans to remove this, the the restrict scenes from the
- 3:44movie altogether or from any future printings, which I guess
- 3:48is any future, like printings of the movie where she actually
- 3:52runs to manufacturing with it, cuz I'm guessing this is going
- 3:54straight onto DVD. So she said that she promised
- 3:57that she has been listening and the she'll be moving forward
- 4:01with all the warnings that she had.
- 4:03But she didn't really understand the impact of it and that it no
- 4:07way condones or recommends, the use of restraint.
- 4:09Autistic people who just something to put in a movie,
- 4:12There is an interesting, you know, this is the thing.
- 4:17She said that she consulted autistic people on when we were
- 4:20talking to on Twitter. She said I, you know, I did the
- 4:23right thing. I consulted with the right
- 4:24people, everything was fine. I've got to aboveboard all this
- 4:27stuff. Yeah, the yada yada I'm fine.
- 4:29There's something wrong with you, right?
- 4:30But she now has said that she has listened to the wrong
- 4:36people, and that she shouldn't have listened to just those
- 4:40people she should have gone abroad.
- 4:41Especially Bactrim and listened to the community as a whole
- 4:44rather than just a handful of people.
- 4:46And she does say that she did speak to people from Autism
- 4:49Speaks. Which again is a charity that a
- 4:51lot of people in the autism Community.
- 4:52Don't really like to align themselves with because there's
- 4:55some shady stuff in the some negative stuff that they do,
- 4:58that people don't really like, right?
- 4:59So since doing that, if you think about this as well, you
- 5:03know, she had this, like, a catalog of stuff on Twitter that
- 5:07she was just, like, belting out to people saying, like, you
- 5:09know, why they were wrong and how the autistic Community were
- 5:11wrong about. Own kind of feelings, which is
- 5:13really bad, but she has apologized and said, sorry to
- 5:19the Austin Community, but she also then deleted her Twitter
- 5:23account, which is crazy to can go right now and try found a
- 5:26Twitter account and it's just like not there.
- 5:28So, you know, myself and other people in the autism community.
- 5:36Although it's nice to have an apology and I do.
- 5:39I do recognize policies when people apologize for something.
- 5:43I get it. But I also feel like it was a
- 5:46little bit too late. I mean, you know, this went on
- 5:48for a few months and I did maybe two or three videos on this
- 5:51topic and we spoke about it and spoke about it.
- 5:53And see a still didn't do anything about the concerns and
- 5:57the worries that people have, you know, they brought up issues
- 6:00about the, the way in which she portrayed the artistic
- 6:03character. The why Maddie Ziegler is Doing
- 6:06this is a character why it was it was uncomfortable to watch
- 6:08the trailer you know and in doing that she just decided
- 6:12rather than and then going oh okay, I apologize.
- 6:15Sorry, I was into the wrong people and maybe I should listen
- 6:18to you guys and on a broader Community kind of research
- 6:21Group, which is what she's now said.
- 6:22She actually just said, well, that's your fault.
- 6:25I've done my research is nothing wrong with the movie, you just
- 6:27hate us for the fact that you're trying to be haters.
- 6:29When in actual fact, they were community members who said, hey,
- 6:31you're trying to represent a community without actually
- 6:34having any of his represented within them.
- 6:36Which is why it comes down to the fact that my disease Eagle,
- 6:38who is a neurotypical, girl is playing somebody of neuro
- 6:41divergency of an Autism Spectrum condition.
- 6:43Now, the whole thing is quite Messy as quite sketchy, and I
- 6:47said that this could be the fall down of both Maddie and see as
- 6:52Korea and the reason is because Maddie, and Sia have a really
- 6:54bizarre relationship, and I'm almost sure that Sears like her
- 6:57godmother. Now, they're bizarre
- 6:59relationship music, they do everything as a team.
- 7:01This is why, you know, Molly's in all her movies and videos and
- 7:04stuff like that. And it was like an No brainer.
- 7:06Why? Maddie was in the movie.
- 7:07Now, Kate Hudson is also in the movie and she got a nod in the
- 7:11golden gloves for bigger for best actress.
- 7:14And it's kind of like, it's a bit weird, how the movie like
- 7:18Hollywood gave Awards and nods to these people who are doing a
- 7:23movie that was highly controversial and it wasn't even
- 7:26good controversy was like really bad controversy and that the
- 7:29community that it's about were really upset with it.
- 7:32Like, how do you, how do you still nominate that?
- 7:36And, you know, it's just, I don't know, I did the whole
- 7:39thing just stinks now. The movie is still going ahead.
- 7:43If I was her, I would pull the movie because there's no, it's
- 7:46not doing anything good. It's doing a lot of bad things
- 7:49and it's keeps making the matter were.
- 7:50So she was really sorry for the movie.
- 7:52Start again, go back to the beginning, pull it.
- 7:54Now Ziggler hasn't said anything about this on her social media
- 7:57and have you following that tomb which is nothing.
- 7:59Then Kate Hudson obviously hasn't said anything as well.
- 8:01See as being, the only one who's been vocal about this and also
- 8:04her vocal Outcry on Twitter originally, was a bit of a bit
- 8:12of a bad thing. Because, you know, she kind of
- 8:14basically said people are Bad actors and, you know, this kind
- 8:16of stuff, but, other than that, she's little account, she's
- 8:21said, she's sorry, which I think it's a little too late and she's
- 8:23kind of pulling the strings in scenes from the movie and adding
- 8:26a warning to the front of the movies that are being showed
- 8:29with restraints in it. I think again, it's too little
- 8:33too late. I think she has dropped the ball
- 8:34here. I think she should have just
- 8:36Like pulled the movie and then started again, I mean that maybe
- 8:40there's a way that she could redo this movie and then she'd
- 8:43have the support and the community behind it.
- 8:44Because when you're doing a movie about Community, it's nice
- 8:47to get the community's input and the community's thoughts and the
- 8:50process and feel like that keep their within it.
- 8:53You know, they're connected their part of it because when
- 8:57you don't have people from a community part of something that
- 9:01you're doing for our community, you alienate the community that
- 9:03you're creating this thing for. Like she said, she was Doing
- 9:05this for acceptance and understanding and autism,
- 9:08awareness. And in actual fact, she's done
- 9:10nothing. But criticized attack and insult
- 9:15the autism community and it just it's real bad taste in
- 9:18everyone's mouth right now. I don't know if CA can recover
- 9:22from this. Deleting a Twitter account with
- 9:24six million followers on it from a branding business point of
- 9:27view. I think that was a really bad
- 9:28move, but why she done that? Just pull the movie and say,
- 9:31you're sorry. But hey, that's just my
- 9:33thoughts. I'd love to know your thoughts.
- 9:34What do you think about this Papa?
