- 0:28Good morning from the chicken coop.
- 0:30Ooh, so I want to tell you A Tale of a story that happened to
- 0:34us yesterday because it it's so important like know that even I
- 0:39have these issues. It's just cracking me up and I
- 0:42figured since it's still in my head, I should talk to you about
- 0:44it. So last night we went out to
- 0:47dinner and it's a neighborhood restaurant and it's my husband,
- 0:51my son, myself, and it's a place that we haven't been in a while.
- 0:55Probably a little bit of a long while but really haven't thought
- 0:58much about Italian place. We go.
- 1:00And after we get out the chickens all tucked away and,
- 1:04you know, as soon as we walked in, it was really strange
- 1:06because there weren't any tables open.
- 1:08But there are seats at the bar, ask, if it's okay, if my son
- 1:12sits at the bar, you know, it's bartender says sure we sit down
- 1:16and Order calamari and comes out pretty quickly.
- 1:21And the my son immediately says, well, there's tons of peppers
- 1:26that are in here to like they fried Peppers into it, which my
- 1:30Even liked but I was I'm not into like that.
- 1:33Can't even eat a pepper because it's so hot kind of food.
- 1:36But he is. So he liked it but there was not
- 1:39a lot on the plate but I didn't say anything.
- 1:41I was just like whatever it is what it is.
- 1:43So you know, it's Italian food you thinking pasta.
- 1:47It's going to be good size. My husband always typically
- 1:50asks, hey, is it portion size? Good on this because he works
- 1:55out a lot. So he's, you know, wants bigger
- 1:58food, but he doesn't ask And he orders some pasta dish, that's a
- 2:03baked Bolognese of some sort. I get a small, a 10 inch of
- 2:07pizza, out of the oven and my son orders meatballs and you
- 2:12know, they we ask them. Do they do a meatball sub?
- 2:15They said, no, they do it at lunch, which is the key to the
- 2:19store like kind of part of the story.
- 2:20So but they but they don't have it on the dinner menu and I say,
- 2:24oh okay well can you do something so that he can make a
- 2:28sub out of it? They're like, well, the
- 2:29meatballs are just Like in a dish on the side for me balls
- 2:34and I'm like, okay, can you bring them some bread?
- 2:36Like I'm I'm looking and they're not like problem-solving.
- 2:39They're not problem-solving at all.
- 2:41Which I have to tell you is one of my biggest pet peeves, about
- 2:44people in life right now that they don't problem solve, so I'm
- 2:48but I'm not coaching at that point.
- 2:49I'm just being Kim. The girl, so I'm like, okay well
- 2:53what do you have? So he says, we have a half loaf.
- 2:55We can order you and it comes with olive oil and butter, and
- 2:58I'm like, all right, whatever, just bring the half loaf.
- 3:01So I'm thinking I'm going to get like a half a sub roll, but
- 3:06whatever. So now check this out, 45
- 3:10minutes later we still don't have our food now, which is
- 3:13fine, you know, it's we're not in a rush at Saturday night,
- 3:16whatever it is, and then my husband has a beer, I have a
- 3:21beer in my, husband orders, another beer and all of a sudden
- 3:24the waiter. It's like the bartender's.
- 3:26Like all right, well let me let me go out and make sure where
- 3:28this is comes back. He brings over the Ball and the
- 3:31pizza, and then he finally brings over my husband's.
- 3:34Now, when I tell you that my husband's food is small, it's
- 3:39ridiculous and it was, you know, baked Bolognese pasta.
- 3:43You would think that would be big.
- 3:44I mean, pasta is cheap to produce, but it's small.
- 3:48And I say to my husband, that dish is really small and it and
- 3:51here's the funny thing about this, this is on the specials
- 3:54menu as a special meal, not as an appetizer as a meal.
- 3:59So my husband says to To the to the Bartender.
- 4:02Hey, listen, this is really small and he immediately says,
- 4:05let me go get the owner. So the owner comes over and his
- 4:09response to my husband is priceless.
- 4:12He says, well, we have small dishes and we have big dishes.
- 4:16This just happens to be the small dish.
- 4:19And my husband goes. Okay.
- 4:22And that's all he says. And he walks away, and I'm
- 4:25sitting there and I looked at my husband and I said, okay, I just
- 4:29and In This Moment, any of you who follow me regular, you know,
- 4:31I talk about who your emotions are in your bus and everything
- 4:34else. And the girl who grew up in
- 4:36Massachusetts wants to get up and go over and strangle
- 4:40somebody because that is an unacceptable, unacceptable
- 4:45response from an owner let alone Loan.
- 4:49Anybody else in the restaurant business?
- 4:51To just say that Captain Obvious great.
- 4:53There are small dishes in their large dishes, right?
- 4:55Like what is that? What is that even explain?
- 4:58So I'm your specials menu and they're charging my mind.
- 5:02You. Here's the other thing, the
- 5:03specials menu did not have any prices on it, but they're
- 5:06charging a lot for everything in the restaurant and I was just my
- 5:10general observation, you know, an order of calamari is $16 and
- 5:15it was Tiny, it wasn't even a big order and it was If filled
- 5:19with peppers not even with Squid.
- 5:22So I'm not saying anything I'm trying to chill out but I'm
- 5:27really really irritated. So finally my the the owner
- 5:31comes back at the end of the meal and says to my husband just
- 5:34walks up to him and says I took it off your menu, off your bill
- 5:37and walks away. That's it like rude and I just
- 5:42was like okay I'm so over this place.
- 5:44I'm so over this place right now and We finally get the bill and
- 5:50the bill comes up. Now, any of you who are
- 5:52listening who go out to eat or who go and have a beer here and
- 5:55there, you typically are used to right now, paying seven, eight,
- 6:02maybe even 9 bucks for a beer and sometimes they want to
- 6:05charge you more for high alcohol beer and they it comes in a 12
- 6:09ounce instead of a 16 ounce pint, whatever.
- 6:12Okay, you're out to eat your just know what you're doing but
- 6:16we get the bill and I say to my husband, I'm curious how much
- 6:19were because I don't my glasses on how much were the beers and
- 6:23he goes, I don't know. And he opens it up and he looks
- 6:25at it and he's like, he shuts it, and he's like bug-eyed and
- 6:29he says, you don't want to know and I said, what?
- 6:31Because you don't want to know. And we start he starts laughing
- 6:34and he's like I can't even tell you because you're going to lose
- 6:37your mind and I was like, what? Tell me?
- 6:40Tell me, tell me, tell me. So now mind you, they have this
- 6:44beer board at the bar and it lists all the beers out.
- 6:48And it they take the time and this is the part that's so
- 6:52important to the story, they take the time to write down all
- 6:55the different beer names, the alcohol level of the beer where
- 7:00it was produced but they don't write the price.
- 7:03And so, the there it is $11.75 and $11.25 for each of the
- 7:10beers, we chose. Now mind you.
- 7:12Here's here's the the slap in the face so to speak.
- 7:15One of them is from a brewery that is Literally right down the
- 7:19street from them and we could walk to the brewery and go there
- 7:23and had the beer for six dollars cheaper than they are charging
- 7:28in their restaurant and it's a bigger glass.
- 7:31So I'm just like beside myself and I am in full Massachusetts
- 7:36mode. I'm just like this is
- 7:38unacceptable. Like I wanted to say something
- 7:40so bad and I was so off the rails and then I had to stop
- 7:45myself and say you know what, here's the challenge.
- 7:48Is where my head went wrong because I ordered the beer and I
- 7:53didn't ask what it was be and it wasn't written on the board.
- 7:56And I saw that it wasn't written on the board.
- 7:58And because it's customary here, when they list the beers out all
- 8:02the places around us, do it just the way they did it.
- 8:05But they have the prices and they didn't.
- 8:08And I said to myself, you know what, you can be pissed off as
- 8:11much as you want that. That that's what they're
- 8:14charging, but they can charge whatever they want, I really
- 8:17don't care. The thing with the bolognese in
- 8:19the plate, and the size of the, you know, the we have small
- 8:22ones, we have large ones, that's just asinine stupid, bad
- 8:25customer service. That was the first clue.
- 8:27No, actually. The first clue was probably the
- 8:29size of the appetizer. That was the second clue, but
- 8:32the problem overall is, I wasn't just pissed at that stuff.
- 8:35I was pissed at myself and I recognized, I didn't ask the
- 8:40question, so I couldn't stay mad at the restaurant.
- 8:42I could stay mad at me for not knowing the details going in
- 8:46now. Can I go and write?
- 8:48Review. Yes, I can go write a review.
- 8:50Will we go write a review? Yes, we will go write a review,
- 8:53but the reality is. It really came down to me being
- 8:57irritated with myself for the fact that I didn't have the, the
- 9:01pause the where, with all the smarts in that moment to ask the
- 9:05question, because then I would have gotten something else.
- 9:08I would never ever, ever pay that for that kind of beer in
- 9:11that kind of situation. But the point is, and the point
- 9:14of the whole story is we always find Opportunities to get Hooked
- 9:18and we have to course. Correct.
- 9:20So, it took me full disclosure. I was pissed.
- 9:24Oh, my long came home, sat down sitting put on a comedians.
- 9:29Watch the Ricky. Gervais is to cool my head off
- 9:31because I'm so irritated with the whole thing and then I
- 9:34realized, you know what, I'm really just pissed off at
- 9:36myself. So I want you guys to take this
- 9:39as a lesson to when you're pissed off, figure out what your
- 9:43role is in it because there's always a thread to it.
- 9:46Thanks for sticking with me on this longer one.
- 9:48On today. And I hope you guys have some
- 9:50wherewithal for yourself and see where you get hooked.
- 9:54All right, my friends. I hope you have a blessed day
- 9:56and I will see you tomorrow. Bye.
