- 0:03Speaker 2: But Joe Logan Experience Train My Day, Joe.
- 0:07Speaker 3: Rogan Podcast by Night, All Day, Roland, what's up? John
- 0:14Speaker 3: Cena in the fucking house? Yeah, let's put these on
- 0:18Speaker 3: professional what's up?
- 0:21Speaker 2: See? Thanks so much for having me my pleasure in here.
- 0:24Speaker 1: And there's no way I'm having a pro wrestlaurant without
- 0:27Speaker 1: Tony Hinchliff. Of course possible. He's the expert. He knows
- 0:30Speaker 1: more about pro wrestling than I know about UFC.
- 0:33Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 0:33Speaker 4: Sometimes I translate little things here and there.
- 0:36Speaker 2: That's cool, It's all right.
- 0:37Speaker 1: Yeah, he has to. He has to. And he's a
- 0:39Speaker 1: giant fan of yours too. You know us is a
- 0:41Speaker 1: giant fan of yours. Is Brian Simpson. Brian Simpson was
- 0:44Speaker 1: going on last night about how intelligent you are. It
- 0:46Speaker 1: was really interesting, you know.
- 0:48Speaker 2: He sure was me.
- 0:49Speaker 1: Yeah, man, well you do speak fucking Mandarin, which is
- 0:53Speaker 1: kind of crazy.
- 0:54Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah.
- 0:55Speaker 1: How long did it take you to learn that?
- 0:57Speaker 2: Man? I was. I was doing that for quiet a
- 1:00Speaker 2: long time. I've since kind of kind of declined on
- 1:03Speaker 2: the studies.
- 1:04Speaker 5: Uh.
- 1:05Speaker 2: A wonderful takeaway from the study of Mandarin. Just because
- 1:09Speaker 2: you know a language doesn't mean you know the culture.
- 1:12Speaker 2: So that was a fantastic experience with But I studied
- 1:15Speaker 2: mander for like a decade, and I would say, like,
- 1:19Speaker 2: not even conversationally fluent. It was a really tough hill
- 1:21Speaker 2: to climb for me.
- 1:22Speaker 1: It seems like a really big hill.
- 1:25Speaker 2: Just it's it's just different. You know, you used to
- 1:28Speaker 2: language in the structure it. No, I didn't read and
- 1:32Speaker 2: like reading all the characters, understanding everything.
- 1:34Speaker 1: Yeah, how long did it take you to learn?
- 1:37Speaker 2: Around ten years?
- 1:38Speaker 1: Whoa?
- 1:39Speaker 2: Yeah? And then like I mean I would dream in
- 1:41Speaker 2: Mandarin and like have conversations and kick down in that,
- 1:44Speaker 2: so it became like a like a second language. But
- 1:49Speaker 2: you know, I lived in China for a little bit.
- 1:51Speaker 2: I filmed a movie with Jackie Chance, so I was
- 1:52Speaker 2: there for like six or seven months. I lived there
- 1:55Speaker 2: and maybe we were inner Mongolia, Yinchuan Province, so like
- 1:59Speaker 2: like in China, Wow, and it was fun.
- 2:02Speaker 1: Yeah, you were in Mongolia.
- 2:04Speaker 2: Inner Mongolia.
- 2:06Speaker 1: Yeah, what's the difference.
- 2:08Speaker 2: I don't know because I've never been in Mongolia, but
- 2:10Speaker 2: Inner Mongolia was man. I was. I was the only
- 2:13Speaker 2: person that looked like me there. Uh, and everyone would say,
- 2:16Speaker 2: look it's it's big white guy. Hunda By Ren Hunda
- 2:19Speaker 2: by Wren that would call me wow.
- 2:22Speaker 1: Wow. So what motivated you to learn that?
- 2:25Speaker 2: It seems like a honestly, man, it was everything in
- 2:29Speaker 2: my life seems to be wrestling related. It was wrestling related.
- 2:32Speaker 2: Like WWE's reach spread everywhere. I mean, I've I've been
- 2:35Speaker 2: able to lucky enough to perform everywhere from like Moscow, Philippines,
- 2:40Speaker 2: South Africa, bangor Maine, every place in between except China.
- 2:45Speaker 2: China was like the one place that didn't understand what
- 2:48Speaker 2: we did. So it's literally like it's a it's a
- 2:51Speaker 2: universal language because you can turn it's like UFC, like
- 2:54Speaker 2: you turned the volume down, but you can see like,
- 2:56Speaker 2: oh this is two guys, best guy wins. I get it.
- 3:00Speaker 2: The Chineses didn't get it. So I figured if like
- 3:02Speaker 2: one of our superstars spoke the language, maybe that would
- 3:05Speaker 2: help break down the barrier. And we got in for
- 3:08Speaker 2: your idea, It was my idea. But the ww offers
- 3:11Speaker 2: and I think they still offer it. They offer a
- 3:13Speaker 2: free second language program. So like when they rolled out
- 3:16Speaker 2: the initiative of like financial advice and you know they'll
- 3:21Speaker 2: pay for portions of your secondary education and free second language.
- 3:25Speaker 2: This is like two thousand and eleven, twenty twelve, big
- 3:28Speaker 2: talent meeting, and like an auditorium, I'm one of the
- 3:31Speaker 2: old guys at the time, sitting the front, being like,
- 3:33Speaker 2: these kids don't know how good they have it. I
- 3:34Speaker 2: should stand up and tell them to I'm like, nah,
- 3:36Speaker 2: fuck that, I'm actually gonna lead by example and take
- 3:39Speaker 2: a language. So I signed up right then then, and
- 3:43Speaker 2: they're for Chinese because I wanted to get us into China. Wow,
- 3:47Speaker 2: And like I said, it worked, but it kind of
- 3:49Speaker 2: only worked, and they think. I think actually, right now,
- 3:53Speaker 2: China is experiencing what wrestling is to them because like
- 3:56Speaker 2: there's I've read articles that there's promotions over there that
- 3:59Speaker 2: are thriving, so like now they get it.
- 4:02Speaker 1: Oh so they have their own promotions. Yeah, yeah, this
- 4:04Speaker 1: is a fairly recent thing, I.
- 4:05Speaker 2: Think, so, Like I just read recent articles that like
- 4:08Speaker 2: pro wrestling is thriving in China and they have their
- 4:11Speaker 2: own like their own way of doing it.
- 4:13Speaker 1: Wow. Yeah yeah, Wow, that's wild. It's wild, how like
- 4:19Speaker 1: expansive the pro wrestling businesses that they would be that
- 4:24Speaker 1: open minded to say, like let's let's give second language
- 4:28Speaker 1: programs to the athletes.
- 4:30Speaker 2: Well, and you know, I just it's it's weird that
- 4:32Speaker 2: the origins of the business are carnival related. It is
- 4:35Speaker 2: like a carnival attraction, and then it was like ruthlessly territorial,
- 4:40Speaker 2: and then when it became national, it's still trying to
- 4:41Speaker 2: find its way. It's it's almost like you see pro
- 4:43Speaker 2: sports doing it. You know, the more sports succeeds, the
- 4:47Speaker 2: more benefits they offer to their competitors and athletes. So
- 4:51Speaker 2: you know, ww you kind of hit that stride.
- 4:54Speaker 1: Yeah, it's just such a smart thing to do.
- 4:57Speaker 2: Yeah, well, you give your challenge, give your talent the
- 5:00Speaker 2: opportunities to gain knowledge and wisdom. And the sad thing is,
- 5:04Speaker 2: I don't know how many people did it or do
- 5:07Speaker 2: it still.
- 5:08Speaker 1: You know, was there anybody other than you that you know?
- 5:10Speaker 2: Of the two other people who claudiochastic Noli, who speaks
- 5:14Speaker 2: I think four or five languages already and he just
- 5:16Speaker 2: wanted to take like a brush up course. And Natty Knighthart, Wow, yeah,
- 5:22Speaker 2: that's it. That's everybody else is like not gonna do it.
- 5:25Speaker 1: Too much work? Yeah, what was the not knowing the culture?
- 5:30Speaker 2: So man, I got I got put in a bit
- 5:32Speaker 2: of a hotspot with I made a pack to myself
- 5:38Speaker 2: when I was like, okay, I feel fluent. We would
- 5:40Speaker 2: do these global press tours and I just happened to
- 5:42Speaker 2: be on a global press tour. I'm like, you know what,
- 5:44Speaker 2: I'm going to do. Seventy percent of my media in Mandarin,
- 5:48Speaker 2: like in dialogue, and I got to say I did it,
- 5:52Speaker 2: like I went over there, spoke. People were taking off
- 5:55Speaker 2: the translator headphones like life was good. Everything was great.
- 5:58Speaker 2: At the very end of the day, as with all
- 6:00Speaker 2: these press tours, you do like a bunch of prompter reads.
- 6:03Speaker 2: So I'm doing prompter reads for everywhere, and it's like, hey,
- 6:08Speaker 2: go this place and see this movie. Go this place
- 6:09Speaker 2: and see this movie. And know my bad, I didn't
- 6:12Speaker 2: check the reads because it's like an end of a
- 6:15Speaker 2: ten hour day. You do a million of these things.
- 6:17Speaker 2: And one of them said like, hey, Taiwan, see this,
- 6:21Speaker 2: this and the it was all in Mandarin, and the
- 6:26Speaker 2: opinion described Taiwan as a country, so be the first
- 6:30Speaker 2: country to see this. Now over there they look through
- 6:34Speaker 2: a different lens, like geopolitics are murky waters man, And
- 6:38Speaker 2: that's what when I learned of like I just said,
- 6:41Speaker 2: it left, everybody was cool. I did my thing like
- 6:43Speaker 2: I read the prompt. It was like a Ron Burgundy moment,
- 6:45Speaker 2: like go fuck yourself, San Diego. It's like the most
- 6:47Speaker 2: offensive thing you can say. So I'm like, man, you know,
- 6:51Speaker 2: good job, John. You said you did seventy percent and
- 6:54Speaker 2: people understood what you were talking about. And then they
- 6:56Speaker 2: put that out and everybody was like, what the did
- 7:00Speaker 2: you just say? We don't that's not how we do
- 7:02Speaker 2: it over here and again, just because like my takeaway
- 7:06Speaker 2: and it was it was. It was a pretty tense
- 7:08Speaker 2: moment for me, like I had to apologize to China
- 7:11Speaker 2: and then apologizing to China, I pissed off my home country.
- 7:14Speaker 2: I'm a patriot. I loved the United States of America
- 7:17Speaker 2: and everything it stands for. But like no one it
- 7:20Speaker 2: was never enough. Nobody was happy. Everybody was fucked up
- 7:23Speaker 2: and it was it was. It was like murky waters
- 7:26Speaker 2: for me personally, and I it was weird, like I'm
- 7:29Speaker 2: not I think I might've been the only guy almost
- 7:32Speaker 2: to get canceled for doing his homework. You know, I
- 7:35Speaker 2: try to like learn, like learn and try to do something.
- 7:37Speaker 2: But the cool takeaway, you know, we can learn from
- 7:39Speaker 2: every mistake. My mistake was just because you know, the
- 7:42Speaker 2: language doesn't mean you know the culture.
- 7:44Speaker 1: Did they even refer to as Taiwan? I think they
- 7:46Speaker 1: referred to as Chinese TYPEI.
- 7:47Speaker 2: Right, man, what was in the I know what I
- 7:50Speaker 2: read in a thing. So that's again I don't know
- 7:54Speaker 2: enough depth to know that. And now like people like,
- 7:58Speaker 2: oh man, can you can you speak man for this?
- 8:00Speaker 2: I just won't do it. It's a skill that I have,
- 8:02Speaker 2: and it's but it's a skill that's going to remain
- 8:04Speaker 2: with me because it's I don't understand. I don't have
- 8:07Speaker 2: the depth of field to know what to call that
- 8:10Speaker 2: place in that region of the world, and I haven't
- 8:11Speaker 2: done enough research, and I don't have the wisdom and
- 8:13Speaker 2: I don't have like the cultural fluency, you know. So
- 8:17Speaker 2: it's a cool lesson. It sucked because I thought I
- 8:20Speaker 2: was just trying to do something good, but it was
- 8:21Speaker 2: it was a cool lesson.
- 8:22Speaker 1: Was it really that big of a deal?
- 8:25Speaker 2: Man? I thought like I was filming Peacemaker Season one
- 8:29Speaker 2: and when they came out with all of this stuff,
- 8:32Speaker 2: I went directly to James Gun and it was like, hey, man,
- 8:34Speaker 2: if you have to fire me, I understand.
- 8:37Speaker 1: Wow.
- 8:38Speaker 2: And it was.
- 8:40Speaker 1: But it wasn't even words that you wrote someone else,
- 8:42Speaker 1: the WW wrote it.
- 8:43Speaker 2: That doesn't no, No, it was it was for the
- 8:45Speaker 2: movie I was promoting.
- 8:46Speaker 1: Right, So the movie, the people that made the movie
- 8:48Speaker 1: wrote it.
- 8:48Speaker 2: So I don't know, Like when you do these press tours.
- 8:51Speaker 2: Let's say if I'm doing a movie for Warner Brothers.
- 8:53Speaker 2: Let's say let's use Peacemaker as example, I'm doing a
- 8:55Speaker 2: global Peacemaker tour and we go into China or we
- 8:59Speaker 2: go into South America. You meet like the PR person
- 9:02Speaker 2: there and they have all the stuff you're supposed to do,
- 9:05Speaker 2: and they curate your experience and they hold your hand.
- 9:07Speaker 2: You're like, okay, now we're gonna go to this station. Then,
- 9:09Speaker 2: by the way, they just want you to do some
- 9:10Speaker 2: shout outs. And so anytime I go anywhere globally, now,
- 9:15Speaker 2: as much as I want to thank fans for their
- 9:18Speaker 2: attention and you know, investing in the product, I really
- 9:21Speaker 2: shy away from like speaking the language because I don't
- 9:24Speaker 2: understand the cultural nuance, you know. I just I just
- 9:26Speaker 2: want to be like, yo, man, thanks for watching what
- 9:28Speaker 2: we do. And I love the fact that you're entertained.
- 9:30Speaker 2: But I want to speak to you at a level
- 9:32Speaker 2: that I understand that I'm fluent because your boots on
- 9:34Speaker 2: the ground here every day, and I might say something
- 9:36Speaker 2: that's a nice gesture but completely fucking offend you, and
- 9:40Speaker 2: that's that's not good. That's not good for anybody.
- 9:42Speaker 1: So was the teleprompter in English, and it was.
- 9:45Speaker 2: In everything was in Mandarin, and in Chinese they have
- 9:49Speaker 2: the characters which are virtually impossible for me to learn.
- 9:52Speaker 2: There's like an infinite number, but they have. They also
- 9:55Speaker 2: have what it's called pinion, which is it's kind of
- 9:57Speaker 2: spelled out in English with phonetics, so it has the
- 10:00Speaker 2: four tones. So if you were to put something in
- 10:02Speaker 2: front of me in pinion right now, I could definitely
- 10:04Speaker 2: read it. And I got good at reading pinions, So
- 10:07Speaker 2: I was like, man, I could I could send all
- 10:09Speaker 2: these messages in manner, and then more people will know
- 10:11Speaker 2: about this movie, and more people will know about me,
- 10:14Speaker 2: and more people will know about wrestling, and more people
- 10:15Speaker 2: be excited. Looked good on paper. Just my fall through
- 10:20Speaker 2: is a bit weak, you know.
- 10:21Speaker 4: It doesn't even seem like that was your fault, right,
- 10:24Speaker 4: it's probably a PR's assistant assistant. That's type that it's
- 10:28Speaker 4: probably in charge of doing the grunt work of typing
- 10:31Speaker 4: in all the different languages in the different countries.
- 10:33Speaker 2: Like, from what I know, I know I'm gonna learn
- 10:36Speaker 2: a lot about you guys in this episode. But from
- 10:38Speaker 2: what I know about you, you're you're into looking at
- 10:41Speaker 2: looking things through different lenses and different perspectives. It also
- 10:44Speaker 2: could have been somebody being like, I'm gonna get this kid,
- 10:49Speaker 2: But here's the thing. I do appreciate you saying like
- 10:52Speaker 2: it's not your fault. That's not true. It was my fault.
- 10:55Speaker 2: And I think that's when I can start to work on, like, well,
- 10:58Speaker 2: what did I learn from this? And I could easily
- 11:01Speaker 2: blame a pr and assistant. I could say somebody had
- 11:04Speaker 2: a target on my back, all that stuff I fucked up.
- 11:08Speaker 1: Did you suspect that somebody might have set you up? No,
- 11:12Speaker 1: well you're saying it like it's a possibility.
- 11:15Speaker 2: Well, man, when it happened, every theory came like, here's
- 11:19Speaker 2: the thing. The world doesn't revolve around me, but my
- 11:21Speaker 2: little world. Everybody was like, they fucked up. They did
- 11:25Speaker 2: this on purpose. I was like, well, first of all,
- 11:27Speaker 2: who's they? So I was able to kind of eliminate
- 11:29Speaker 2: all that, and once I realized I could still go
- 11:32Speaker 2: on working. I really made a lot of people angry
- 11:36Speaker 2: and for that that I'm sorry. Like again, I was
- 11:37Speaker 2: just trying to.
- 11:38Speaker 1: That's crazy just by saying that Taiwan's a country in.
- 11:42Speaker 2: Chinese though, right, you know, like those are murky waters
- 11:45Speaker 2: to begin with, you know, like I'm not even thoroughly
- 11:49Speaker 2: fluent on the US policy. I think it's like like
- 11:53Speaker 2: a territorial ambiguity or some shit like that, Like it's
- 11:55Speaker 2: it's so weird and it's so fragile, and I I
- 12:00Speaker 2: got into some water I shouldn't have been swimming in.
- 12:02Speaker 2: But that's on me, it's not it was my fault,
- 12:06Speaker 2: and I think that's important for me to bear the
- 12:08Speaker 2: burden of that and be like, yo, what how can
- 12:10Speaker 2: I course correct? What did I learn? Who do I
- 12:12Speaker 2: really really genuinely have to apologize for offending? The biggest
- 12:17Speaker 2: thing that was a kick to the nuts is one
- 12:19Speaker 2: like people's stateside got.
- 12:21Speaker 1: Pissed off because you apologize.
- 12:23Speaker 2: Yes, in in Chinese, and I understand it, I mean completely,
- 12:28Speaker 2: like bowing down to the demand of this that gosh,
- 12:32Speaker 2: what a what a shitty move by me? Like I
- 12:34Speaker 2: just I should have taken a breath. Again, what did
- 12:37Speaker 2: I learn? Don't be reactive, take a breath, find out
- 12:41Speaker 2: what's going on, find out the best path of action,
- 12:45Speaker 2: Maybe give it a few days, maybe give it a
- 12:47Speaker 2: hot second, and then move forward. But immediately I was like, oh,
- 12:52Speaker 2: they're mad, you want us to do this? Fine, no problem,
- 12:54Speaker 2: I'll fix it right now. Man. That not only did
- 12:57Speaker 2: I not try to fix the hole in the boat,
- 12:58Speaker 2: I sunk the Titanic. So but again it was a
- 13:01Speaker 2: learning experience.
- 13:03Speaker 1: Well, it speaks to your character that you don't blame
- 13:05Speaker 1: anybody else, because I'd blame everybody else. I'd be like,
- 13:08Speaker 1: who fucking wrote that? Don't you know what you're saying
- 13:12Speaker 1: or what you're making me say?
- 13:14Speaker 2: The release you guys have for the show, I read
- 13:18Speaker 2: it and you might be the only person. So that
- 13:20Speaker 2: was that was whoever handed it to me. That was
- 13:22Speaker 2: what they said, Like, I think you might be the
- 13:24Speaker 2: only person's ever read it. Ye, Man, if if you're gonna,
- 13:28Speaker 2: if you're gonna take liberties with me, at least I
- 13:30Speaker 2: want to be able to read that. You are right,
- 13:32Speaker 2: you know what I'm saying. And I can't say I'm
- 13:33Speaker 2: perfect with doing that. But like I was handed a release,
- 13:36Speaker 2: I'm like, man, can I just glance this over for Oh,
- 13:39Speaker 2: this says what I think it says. Okay, let's go.
- 13:40Speaker 1: Trump didn't even read it, just.
- 13:46Speaker 2: Tweets their own.
- 13:47Speaker 1: Yeah. No, it's very smarter you to read it.
- 13:50Speaker 2: You know who knows, You know who knows.
- 13:53Speaker 1: So this is Tony is this? Is this the full
- 13:56Speaker 1: TRIFACTA Now, I was like, if you've gotten all of
- 13:58Speaker 1: your heroes on this, now.
- 14:00Speaker 4: There's a couple more we can knock off out of
- 14:02Speaker 4: the world. There's a couple more.
- 14:05Speaker 2: Let's if you don't mind if I can adult talk
- 14:08Speaker 2: pro wrestling heroes. Who do we need to knock off?
- 14:11Speaker 4: Well, I mean in all reality, and it's a diabolical,
- 14:16Speaker 4: diabolical man.
- 14:17Speaker 2: He can he can kind of invite you can't. You
- 14:19Speaker 2: can invite anyone you want. Yeah, you just kind of
- 14:21Speaker 2: got to get him the wish list.
- 14:22Speaker 4: I mean you got to. You gotta start with the
- 14:24Speaker 4: number one, without a doubt, Vince McMahon who started this
- 14:28Speaker 4: gangster ship and spread it around and.
- 14:30Speaker 1: Definitely have him.
- 14:30Speaker 4: It is a little man.
- 14:32Speaker 2: Yeah, he would be great. Yes, I whatever magic you
- 14:37Speaker 2: have out there and you have a lot of gravity.
- 14:39Speaker 1: Do you think he'd be interested in doing it?
- 14:41Speaker 2: Are you kidding me. I think you would love it. Really,
- 14:44Speaker 2: I think you would love it. I don't know when
- 14:46Speaker 2: the right time is, but man, don't don't miss out
- 14:50Speaker 2: in that at least at least send it out to
- 14:52Speaker 2: the universe.
- 14:52Speaker 1: Yeah, well, I would definitely, Vince, if you're listening, Vince,
- 14:56Speaker 1: if you're listening, let's go. I think this would be
- 14:57Speaker 1: a great I think this experience would be a great
- 14:59Speaker 1: one for you. Is he still involved? Is he out?
- 15:02Speaker 1: He's in, he's out, he's out, He's out totally.
- 15:05Speaker 2: Yep.
- 15:06Speaker 1: It seems like he's a guy that'll be out for
- 15:07Speaker 1: a little while and then something will happen. They'll bring
- 15:09Speaker 1: him back in.
- 15:10Speaker 2: No, well, well I don't know. Again. That's that's way
- 15:14Speaker 2: we were talking about, like why is your last event
- 15:16Speaker 2: in this place? And like, man, because I don't choose
- 15:18Speaker 2: the events, like I don't. All that stuff is so
- 15:20Speaker 2: far above me. But I know now he's out. I
- 15:26Speaker 2: in my eyes, i'd like to think that like time,
- 15:30Speaker 2: heals everything. And I believe in forgiveness, and I also
- 15:34Speaker 2: believe in like looking at the body of work, but
- 15:37Speaker 2: I also I also know there's a lot of fragile
- 15:38Speaker 2: stuff going on there. I don't know. I don't know, man,
- 15:40Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 15:41Speaker 1: Yeah, it's a hot subject. It get us into another
- 15:44Speaker 1: Chinese type a incident.
- 15:46Speaker 2: Well, no, no, man, I'm I'm again. I've learned to
- 15:50Speaker 2: become a little bit more accountable for what I say.
- 15:53Speaker 2: And just how just because I feel a certain way
- 15:55Speaker 2: about a person doesn't exonerate them from being accountable for
- 15:58Speaker 2: their actions. Right, And just because he did start quote
- 16:03Speaker 2: unquote all this gangster ship, uh, that doesn't that doesn't
- 16:07Speaker 2: mean he doesn't need to be accountable for his actions. Right,
- 16:09Speaker 2: So let's let's figure out what that means and then
- 16:12Speaker 2: figure out if we can, if we can move forward
- 16:14Speaker 2: and and bring that back in the fold, or if
- 16:16Speaker 2: if it stays the way it is.
- 16:18Speaker 1: Well, you think Tony think he's coming back.
- 16:20Speaker 2: I think you would come here. Yeah.
- 16:22Speaker 4: I think he would come here too. And I think
- 16:23Speaker 4: he You know, that's one of the more entertaining people
- 16:26Speaker 4: of all time. He created the entire universe. You got
- 16:28Speaker 4: to remember Hogan's Hogan because of him seeing a scene. Yeah,
- 16:33Speaker 4: every single stone cold He's like.
- 16:35Speaker 1: That sounds good.
- 16:35Speaker 4: Yeah, keep it going. We'll do the glass breaks thing
- 16:38Speaker 4: and they'll throw you beers.
- 16:39Speaker 1: I like it.
- 16:39Speaker 4: Let's do it again next week. So everything that we.
- 16:42Speaker 2: Think when he sits here, you gotta do that impression.
- 16:44Speaker 4: Yeah yeah, yeah, Stone Cold's another one that hasn't been on.
- 16:51Speaker 2: Steve would be great. I think you would you dig Steve?
- 16:55Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I'm sure. Yeah. He lives out here too,
- 16:57Speaker 1: doesn't he?
- 16:57Speaker 2: Yep? Does he?
- 16:59Speaker 1: Well? Actually is never a ranch out here.
- 17:01Speaker 4: I think he does. Somebody he does, Yeah, but I
- 17:04Speaker 4: think he's based out of somewhere else, now New Mexico
- 17:06Speaker 4: or Arizona. He's on the he like he's like kind
- 17:10Speaker 4: of cool and reclusive. He like doesn't really do a lot.
- 17:14Speaker 4: It's amazing.
- 17:14Speaker 2: He'd be a good get and I'm pretty sure I
- 17:16Speaker 2: guarantee you would do it. Yeah, Steve, if you're I
- 17:18Speaker 2: know you're watching, come on, come on, come on in talk.
- 17:22Speaker 2: Let's talk some wrestling, man.
- 17:23Speaker 4: I mean everyone has him on the you know the
- 17:26Speaker 4: Mount Rushmore, Uh, Triple H who runs it now, the
- 17:30Speaker 4: son in law of Vince McMahon. Yeah, I mean he
- 17:34Speaker 4: runs the entire thing.
- 17:35Speaker 2: I mean you want you want to answers to those
- 17:37Speaker 2: high level questions, Yeah, there's your guy. Yeah, that's the

- 19:17Speaker 1: Tony at one point in time was offered a job
- 19:20Speaker 1: with the WWE before he really made it no way. Yeah,
- 19:23Speaker 1: he was offered a job to write for the WWE
- 19:26Speaker 1: because you know, Tony was a giant pro wrestling fan,
- 19:29Speaker 1: and you know, he'd already had a Netflix special, so
- 19:32Speaker 1: he was known.
- 19:33Speaker 4: It was a comic before that?
- 19:34Speaker 1: Was it? Before the Netflix special? The first one, the
- 19:37Speaker 1: one that you released yourself.
- 19:38Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 19:39Speaker 1: Really Yeah.
- 19:39Speaker 4: It was only a couple of years into me doing
- 19:42Speaker 4: stand up, like seven nights a week at the comedy
- 19:44Speaker 4: store all the time, and somehow I ended up Someone's like, hey,
- 19:47Speaker 4: I have a friend in WWE if you want to
- 19:49Speaker 4: have a meeting with them and just talk. And I
- 19:51Speaker 4: went in with straight up ideas, this that the under
- 19:54Speaker 4: the Undertaker's brother comes back again, this that the next
- 19:57Speaker 4: like everything back and forth. I can't and remember any
- 20:00Speaker 4: of them, it's been so long. But I went in
- 20:02Speaker 4: with the whole thing. This guy's like, where the hell
- 20:04Speaker 4: did you?
- 20:05Speaker 2: Like? What?
- 20:06Speaker 4: This is crazy? You just like did this? I'm like, yeah,
- 20:08Speaker 4: you found out a couple of days ago we were
- 20:09Speaker 4: going to talk, so but yeah, they offered it. But
- 20:14Speaker 4: I would have had to move to Connecticut and take
- 20:16Speaker 4: a train to New York every night to go do
- 20:19Speaker 4: stand up and that would have just been exhausting. And
- 20:21Speaker 4: everything I heard because Patrise O'Neil, the late great Patrise
- 20:25Speaker 4: O'Neil wrote for WWE for a while, they really yeah, yeah,
- 20:29Speaker 4: for like a couple of years.
- 20:30Speaker 1: I think, what did you just wrote lines for them?
- 20:32Speaker 1: Like what did you do?
- 20:33Speaker 4: The whole shebang? When you're a WW writer, they they
- 20:36Speaker 4: make you right. It's not like a cute job at all.
- 20:39Speaker 2: No, there's a lot of there's a lot of television
- 20:42Speaker 2: or there's a lot of content every week. Yeah, right now,
- 20:44Speaker 2: I think they got They have three weekly shows, so
- 20:48Speaker 2: that's twenty I think one of them's going back to
- 20:50Speaker 2: three hours in sixteenes. It's like fifty segments of TV. Yeah,
- 20:55Speaker 2: every week.
- 20:55Speaker 1: Yeah, I remember when you were talking about it. Yeah,
- 20:58Speaker 1: when you're talking about potentially doing.
- 21:00Speaker 4: It, it's like, yeah, it was tricky and I.
- 21:03Speaker 1: Was like, dude, you do not want to live in Connecticut.
- 21:05Speaker 4: No, that's the main thing. It was anywhere else other
- 21:08Speaker 4: than Connecticut. It kind of would have made more sense
- 21:11Speaker 4: if it was in New York City, it would have
- 21:13Speaker 4: been a no brainer. It was in La definitely.
- 21:16Speaker 2: But like fast forward, now you're you're more and more involved.
- 21:19Speaker 1: Yes, well this is the crazy thing. Like we had
- 21:21Speaker 1: talked like during the old days, like we would talk
- 21:24Speaker 1: in the green room. I'd like, that would be your
- 21:27Speaker 1: ultimate dream job, like to make it as a comedian
- 21:30Speaker 1: and somehow be involved in the UFC the way or
- 21:32Speaker 1: excuse me in WW the way I'm involved in the UFC,
- 21:36Speaker 1: Like very similar.
- 21:37Speaker 4: Yeah, it's and look crazy, it's insane. The one tomorrow night,
- 21:42Speaker 4: I'm gonna be in the front row at the arena
- 21:45Speaker 4: in my hometown.
- 21:46Speaker 2: Are they here? Yeah?
- 21:47Speaker 4: Oh man, are you messing with me, are you gonna
- 21:50Speaker 4: is your music gonna hit you?
- 21:51Speaker 2: No? Got one?
- 21:53Speaker 4: This is what they do, by the way, Oh yeah,
- 21:55Speaker 4: oh yeah, I didn't even know they were going to
- 21:58Speaker 4: be in town.
- 21:58Speaker 2: He's correct. There's a lot of you mess with people,
- 22:01Speaker 2: You're right, But then somebody like me will actually shoot
- 22:04Speaker 2: you straight and be like I'm not going to be
- 22:06Speaker 2: there and I won't be there, and you'll be like, ah, now,
- 22:08Speaker 2: I'm just I'm building the equity for people to mess
- 22:10Speaker 2: with people.
- 22:11Speaker 1: I'm giving out there tomorrow the music exactly.
- 22:17Speaker 4: I heard a great story. You'll probably love this. You
- 22:19Speaker 4: might even know this story. But the Undertaker, his wife
- 22:23Speaker 4: and his podcast co host went to WrestleMania. They're up
- 22:26Speaker 4: in a fancy suite. This was which one?
- 22:30Speaker 2: Was it?
- 22:30Speaker 1: The Rock?
- 22:30Speaker 2: I mean her parents? Did you? Yes?
- 22:33Speaker 4: You were there right that huge finish at Ago where
- 22:37Speaker 4: it was just boom boom, boom boom, and all these
- 22:40Speaker 4: legends were coming out this huge finish just like they
- 22:44Speaker 4: can't even like follow it the ultimate climax of a
- 22:47Speaker 4: WrestleMania and one wrestler comes out interrupts this huge main event,
- 22:51Speaker 4: and then another one, then another one. Anyway, the Undertaker,
- 22:53Speaker 4: his wife and his podcast co hosts were up in
- 22:55Speaker 4: the suite. Undertaker goes, I'm gonna go use the restroom.
- 22:58Speaker 4: They're like, he's been gone a while. The lights go out,
- 23:01Speaker 4: the beltles they're watching from the suite. He's been gone
- 23:03Speaker 4: for like ten minutes, twenty minutes. He went and changed
- 23:06Speaker 4: real quick, and then now he.
- 23:07Speaker 2: Came out as the Undertaker.
- 23:08Speaker 4: Yeah, came out as the Undertaker. They're in this suite like,
- 23:10Speaker 4: oh my god, it's the Undertaker. He's like, they don't
- 23:14Speaker 4: tell anybody. It's so old school and awesome that they
- 23:17Speaker 4: keep secrets so locked up that their own loved ones.
- 23:21Speaker 4: His wife didn't even know.
- 23:23Speaker 1: That's hilarious. Yes, that is so crazy.
- 23:26Speaker 2: It's fun to be able to surprise the live audience.
- 23:29Speaker 1: Oh yeah, oh yeah. I mean it's got to be
- 23:31Speaker 1: a big part of it. How did you get involved
- 23:33Speaker 1: in pro wrestling? Were you a fan as a kid
- 23:36Speaker 1: and then.
- 23:36Speaker 2: I sure was. I think we have the same gravity
- 23:39Speaker 2: of like, man, I was a super fan as a kid,
- 23:42Speaker 2: but then I fell out of it admittedly kind of
- 23:44Speaker 2: when Hogan went to WCW. So like I was into
- 23:50Speaker 2: wrestling and then I wasn't, and then I got into
- 23:52Speaker 2: sports or whatever. Uh, And then I got back into
- 23:55Speaker 2: wrestling when everyone else did, when like Stone Cold Steve
- 23:57Speaker 2: Austin became big, the Rock became big, the attitude hit
- 24:01Speaker 2: and I was just working a dead end a job
- 24:03Speaker 2: over at gold Gym Venice, and like didn't know what
- 24:05Speaker 2: I wanted to do with my life. How old were
- 24:07Speaker 2: you twenty one twenty one. I'd moved out to California,
- 24:12Speaker 2: not to be famous or anything. My degree was in
- 24:14Speaker 2: Canise and I wanted to like that was the center
- 24:17Speaker 2: of the fitness universe in ninety nine, two thousand, so
- 24:21Speaker 2: like all equipment manufacturers are there. I'm like, man, I'll
- 24:24Speaker 2: go get a job with hammer strength or a cybex
- 24:26Speaker 2: or like maybe golds or like put that piece of
- 24:29Speaker 2: paper on the wall to like get a good paying job.
- 24:32Speaker 2: It did not work, so I ended up like front desk,
- 24:36Speaker 2: cleaning toilets, selling protein bars in that order. So don't
- 24:39Speaker 2: ever buy a protein bar. I'm just kidding, but no.
- 24:42Speaker 2: I was kind of like a jack of all trades
- 24:43Speaker 2: over there. And a friend of mine Chris Bell and
- 24:47Speaker 2: Mark Bell, oh I know guy, yeah, yeah. They literally
- 24:50Speaker 2: were like, dude, you talk about WWF all the time.
- 24:53Speaker 2: You know, we trained down in Orange County, and at
- 24:56Speaker 2: that time, Chris Bell was kind of like writing for
- 24:57Speaker 2: this promotion, you like, would you want to do it?
- 25:01Speaker 2: And I, man, I that doesn't happen without them accidentally
- 25:05Speaker 2: saying like, yo, we were trained to do this.
- 25:07Speaker 1: So his documentaries are fucking incredible. Bigger, Stronger, Faster. And
- 25:11Speaker 1: then the other one, the pill one, what was that
- 25:13Speaker 1: one called magic Pill?
- 25:15Speaker 2: No?
- 25:15Speaker 1: What was the one? The addiction one that Chris released,
- 25:20Speaker 1: But Bigger, Stronger, Faster is such a fucking great documentary.
- 25:24Speaker 2: The Bell family, I've been I've been friends with them
- 25:25Speaker 2: for a long time.
- 25:26Speaker 1: Great guys. Yeah, that that documentary like blew the lid
- 25:30Speaker 1: off of like the reality of steroids, prescription THUGSCIPT another
- 25:34Speaker 1: great one. Yeah. The crazy thing is he got addicted
- 25:38Speaker 1: to pills while he was doing that, because he had
- 25:40Speaker 1: surgery while he was doing that and got addicted to
- 25:43Speaker 1: pills while he's making a fucking documentary on people being
- 25:47Speaker 1: addicted to pills. That's how potent pills are. A guy
- 25:50Speaker 1: making a documentary about addiction, he just thinks, well, I'm
- 25:55Speaker 1: just taking these because I got hip surgery and I'm
- 25:57Speaker 1: in fucking agony, and then gets hooked. Oh yeah, that's
- 26:01Speaker 1: how crazy it is.
- 26:02Speaker 2: Yeah, they're strong.
- 26:03Speaker 1: Yeah. Did you ever have an issue?
- 26:08Speaker 2: No? No, As a matter of fact, I've had fusion
- 26:12Speaker 2: in my neck right peck completely detached, reattached both triceps,
- 26:17Speaker 2: reattached both triceps, scoped, nose relocated, Like I got I
- 26:24Speaker 2: probably I'm in like ten physical surgeries where they got
- 26:28Speaker 2: to go and correct something. Never taken one pain pill. Wow.
- 26:31Speaker 2: I have all the prescriptions in the bottom drawer of
- 26:34Speaker 2: my house filled. And it's weird because at every facility,
- 26:39Speaker 2: the first thing they the first hill they climb, is
- 26:42Speaker 2: pain management. You wake up from anesthesia, you're like gray
- 26:46Speaker 2: and murky. And I've been in a bunch of surgeries
- 26:49Speaker 2: and a bunch of different facilities. The protocol is always
- 26:51Speaker 2: the same. Do you want something for the pain? Here?
- 26:53Speaker 2: We got to make sure you take this with you
- 26:55Speaker 2: because you're not in any pain. Yeah, Like I understand,
- 26:58Speaker 2: because you if you leave, if you're feeling okay, maybe
- 27:01Speaker 2: you're high off adrenaline. I don't know. And then the
- 27:03Speaker 2: operation sets in of like, holy fuck, this is a
- 27:06Speaker 2: ten out of ten. I can't I need something. I
- 27:10Speaker 2: get that, but I I guess from falling down and
- 27:13Speaker 2: hurting my body a lot, like I know my pain threshold. Yeah,
- 27:17Speaker 2: and when I the worst one was probably the putting
- 27:20Speaker 2: the whole peck back on and then attaching it. But
- 27:23Speaker 2: when I woke up, I was able to like mess
- 27:25Speaker 2: around with the stress ball and I never took one pill. Amazing,
- 27:29Speaker 2: and I still have the full bottles of like summer labeled.
- 27:32Speaker 2: Two thousand and eight is when I have my first
- 27:34Speaker 2: surgery and they're just all there.
- 27:36Speaker 1: There's a lot of people listening right now, you have.
- 27:37Speaker 2: To count the ball.
- 27:39Speaker 1: They're still good.
- 27:40Speaker 2: But it was weird because the medical staff couldn't couldn't
- 27:46Speaker 2: believe it, Like they're like, you don't want anything, no,
- 27:49Speaker 2: because man, it's a I know how I am with this.
- 27:52Speaker 1: It's yeah, it's a fucking slippery.
- 27:54Speaker 2: And I would just I'd be high on opiate. It's
- 27:57Speaker 2: all poids all the time.
- 27:58Speaker 1: I got my first knee surgery, thinking ninety three or
- 28:01Speaker 1: ninety four, and they gave me I got an ACL
- 28:03Speaker 1: reconstruction and they gave me viking In. I think I'm
- 28:06Speaker 1: pretty sure it was vikant In. I took one one
- 28:09Speaker 1: day and I felt so stupid. I was lining on
- 28:13Speaker 1: line on my couch watching TV, and I felt so
- 28:16Speaker 1: dumb and my niece still hurt. You know. It was
- 28:19Speaker 1: just like it was distracting me from the fact that
- 28:21Speaker 1: my knee hurt. But I'm like, I can't be this dumb.
- 28:23Speaker 1: I'm dumb enough as it is. I can't add to
- 28:26Speaker 1: my dumbness with pills. Like I just saw it coming,
- 28:30Speaker 1: you know. And also I knew a bunch of guys
- 28:32Speaker 1: who had pill problems. I wound up selling my pills
- 28:35Speaker 1: to a friend of mine that would sell pills.
- 28:37Speaker 2: I should have taken your idea.
- 28:40Speaker 1: I went made a couple hundred bucks or something. I
- 28:43Speaker 1: even remember. It was like in the nineties, but I
- 28:45Speaker 1: remember just that one pill. And so then every surgery
- 28:48Speaker 1: I've had ever since then, they always offered me stuff,
- 28:51Speaker 1: and I never took anything. I got my other ACL
- 28:53Speaker 1: reconstructed in two thousand and three, never took anything I
- 28:57Speaker 1: got in my nose fixed, and it's like two thousand
- 29:00Speaker 1: and eight, I gotta my nose reconstructed, devated sceptum. Yeah,
- 29:04Speaker 1: the guy was insisting that he gave me two prescriptions
- 29:07Speaker 1: for pain medicine, and I was like, I don't want anything.
- 29:09Speaker 1: I was like, is it gonna get worse than this.
- 29:11Speaker 1: He's like, it could get I go right now, it
- 29:13Speaker 1: feels like nothing.
- 29:14Speaker 2: Yeah, it's like.
- 29:14Speaker 1: But if you've been again, like you you've been beaten
- 29:17Speaker 1: up so many times your body, You're so used to
- 29:20Speaker 1: just being in pain. And I think for some people
- 29:23Speaker 1: just the daunting anxiety of pain itself is like they
- 29:27Speaker 1: just want a pill before they even realize, like I
- 29:30Speaker 1: could kind of just yeah, it sucks, but it's not
- 29:33Speaker 1: gonna suck forever. It's gonna heal. So let's just deal
- 29:36Speaker 1: with the suck and just lay here, put some ice
- 29:38Speaker 1: on it or whatever, and just relax.
- 29:40Speaker 2: And along with that, it's kind of like your your
- 29:43Speaker 2: body's natural way of saying like Okay, maybe push a
- 29:47Speaker 2: little bit more, try to get a few more degrees
- 29:49Speaker 2: of range of motion and physical therapy. It like if
- 29:53Speaker 2: if those senses are numbed right and like shut off right,
- 29:58Speaker 2: first of all, you you do feel just like I
- 30:00Speaker 2: don't want to do anything, so you won't work. In
- 30:02Speaker 2: many cases, you won't work to do the work to
- 30:04Speaker 2: get better, to get right, or you just you don't
- 30:07Speaker 2: know the messaging. You can't listen to your body, like
- 30:10Speaker 2: if it's really really in pain, maybe it's maybe your
- 30:13Speaker 2: body's trying to tell you something I don't.
- 30:14Speaker 1: I always assume that people feel pain differently. I mean,
- 30:17Speaker 1: I just would imagine, like like people feel hot sauce differently,
- 30:22Speaker 1: Like some people they can't have any spice. Some people
- 30:24Speaker 1: fucking can have like you know, death peppers and they're fine.
- 30:28Speaker 2: So all right, I'll throw that out to the group.
- 30:30Speaker 2: Is pain a personal experience?
- 30:32Speaker 4: I mean, there's no way I'm as tough as you guys,
- 30:34Speaker 4: so yeah, it has to be.
- 30:36Speaker 2: But I think in other dimensions you might be way tougher.
- 30:39Speaker 2: I don't know. I don't know. Maybe I think there's
- 30:43Speaker 2: something you don't tell me.
- 30:44Speaker 4: I can't imagine the dimension. I went and visited a
- 30:47Speaker 4: firehouse the other day and I was going down the
- 30:49Speaker 4: pole going weed Like you guys wouldn't do that.
- 30:52Speaker 1: I would do that.
- 30:54Speaker 2: So in that, in that aspect, you're tougher than me.
- 30:57Speaker 1: Yeah, you can take ridicules, ridicule really easily. But I
- 31:01Speaker 1: don't know how what it feels like for other people.
- 31:04Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying. I mean, I would assume
- 31:06Speaker 1: that everybody feels the same. But you know, one of
- 31:08Speaker 1: the reasons why I think maybe it is like it's different,
- 31:11Speaker 1: but because my mom, my mom has a crazy tolerance
- 31:15Speaker 1: to pain. Like my guy who uh my stem cell
- 31:18Speaker 1: guy in La, my mom had a real knee issue
- 31:22Speaker 1: and he was treating her as well, and he goes,
- 31:24Speaker 1: it's hilarious. Your mother's just like you. She just takes
- 31:26Speaker 1: it like she doesn't even flinch, She's just sticking it.
- 31:29Speaker 1: Like he's like, that doesn't happen. Like seventy five year
- 31:31Speaker 1: old ladies like take a needle and shove it into
- 31:33Speaker 1: their knee and push it and she just doesn't move,
- 31:37Speaker 1: And you know, she's like, oh, it wasn't painful, it
- 31:39Speaker 1: was no big deal. It's like, you know, a lot
- 31:41Speaker 1: of seventy five year old ladies would be fucking sweat
- 31:44Speaker 1: hang and freaking out seeing the needle. Yeah, but I
- 31:49Speaker 1: don't know, you know, I don't know what it feels
- 31:52Speaker 1: like to other people. Like when I got my ACL,
- 31:54Speaker 1: my right ACL reconstructed, it was a lot easier because
- 31:57Speaker 1: it was a cadaver, And I recommend it to any
- 32:00Speaker 1: The difference between a ptell attended grab recovery and a
- 32:03Speaker 1: cadaver recovery is literally like six months. The difference is
- 32:07Speaker 1: the cadaver was so much quicker. Wow, oh my god,
- 32:10Speaker 1: because the cadaver they take it. I mean it's all
- 32:13Speaker 1: swallen and everything afterwards, but it's somebody else's tendon. They
- 32:17Speaker 1: take an Achilles tendon off of a cadaver, so it's
- 32:19Speaker 1: one hundred and fifty percent stronger than an acl They
- 32:22Speaker 1: fucking screw that sucker in place, little tiny orthoscopic holes,
- 32:26Speaker 1: not nearly as invasive, and then five days later, you know,
- 32:30Speaker 1: Matt Lichtenberg, I went to his party for his birthday
- 32:32Speaker 1: party five days later, just walking around, and he was like,
- 32:35Speaker 1: did you just have surgery? Yeah, It's like, it's not
- 32:37Speaker 1: that big a deal. It feels fine. You know. It
- 32:40Speaker 1: was so much easier. The left one was brutal because
- 32:43Speaker 1: they take a slice out of your btell attendon, and
- 32:45Speaker 1: then they could take a chunk out of your shin
- 32:47Speaker 1: bone and a chunk out of your kneecap, and then
- 32:49Speaker 1: they use those to screw this new tendon that they
- 32:53Speaker 1: created into the shin bone and into your thigh bone.
- 32:57Speaker 1: That was rough. That one was painful as fuck and
- 33:00Speaker 1: took a long time before it felt normal. Took a
- 33:02Speaker 1: long time before I could go down on one knee again.
- 33:05Speaker 2: When was this pain that it was in the nineties,
- 33:07Speaker 2: and then the other one was.
- 33:09Speaker 1: Early two thousands, two thousand, like twoish somewhere two three.
- 33:13Speaker 2: I mean ten more years of performing surgeries, ten more
- 33:16Speaker 2: years ago.
- 33:17Speaker 1: I just think it's the different because they still do
- 33:18Speaker 1: that betel a tendon graph, and I think George Saint
- 33:21Speaker 1: Pierre had it done that way. I know a bunch
- 33:22Speaker 1: of people that I'm friends with had it done that way,
- 33:26Speaker 1: and I was like, oh, don't do that one do
- 33:28Speaker 1: the cadaver. But people are worried, like what if you
- 33:30Speaker 1: got aids? Like Jesus Christ, you're not going to get
- 33:33Speaker 1: AIDS from it.
- 33:34Speaker 2: Stop.
- 33:35Speaker 1: And it's also it's like you feel better before you
- 33:39Speaker 1: are better, unfortunately, because the way the tendon works, so
- 33:43Speaker 1: when they replace a tendon with a cadaver, it's not
- 33:45Speaker 1: like you have this guy's tendon in your body. What
- 33:48Speaker 1: it is like is that tendon is a scaffolding and
- 33:50Speaker 1: then your body reproliferates that with your own cells. So
- 33:54Speaker 1: over the course of six months, my body had filled
- 33:58Speaker 1: in all of what you used to be a cadaver
- 34:01Speaker 1: with my own cells. So you have you'll feel like
- 34:04Speaker 1: it's better before it's better. So a lot of MMA fighters,
- 34:08Speaker 1: they they start training too quickly and they blow it
- 34:12Speaker 1: out again because it's still soft.
- 34:14Speaker 2: That's always the concern. It's always in any you feel good, Yeah,
- 34:19Speaker 2: I can do this.
- 34:21Speaker 1: Especially animals, you know, who are just used to pain
- 34:24Speaker 1: and used to and used to pushing, you know, and
- 34:27Speaker 1: they just pop it out again. I know multiple MMA
- 34:30Speaker 1: fighters that have had knee surgery and then blew it
- 34:32Speaker 1: out while they were recovering, and.
- 34:35Speaker 2: Just a few months more they could just be all right,
- 34:38Speaker 2: it's impatience. You want to get back in there.
- 34:40Speaker 1: And then it's even worse because you've got to drill
- 34:42Speaker 1: into the same holes and pull it out and open
- 34:45Speaker 1: you up, and it's more invasive surgery. They got to
- 34:47Speaker 1: remove the screws and fuck. Yeah. But I just I
- 34:52Speaker 1: don't think everybody feels pain the same. I think it's
- 34:54Speaker 1: a genetic thing. I'm it's just an assumption, obviously, because
- 34:58Speaker 1: I don't feel what other people feel. But I think
- 35:01Speaker 1: some people just any kind of pain, it's just they
- 35:03Speaker 1: can't function, they're they're just in agony, and I think
- 35:06Speaker 1: those people are way more vulnerable to the pills. That's
- 35:11Speaker 1: just my assumption.
- 35:12Speaker 2: That's a decent perspective, I definitely I would agree with
- 35:17Speaker 2: pain is it is a personal experience, like there there
- 35:20Speaker 2: are people who I mean, I've seen people like I
- 35:25Speaker 2: can't believe you go through that. And then people will
- 35:26Speaker 2: be like, but you get the shit kicked out of you.
- 35:28Speaker 2: I can't believe you do that. It's all it's all relative.
- 35:30Speaker 2: I would I would be shitting cufflinks if you get
- 35:34Speaker 2: that stem cell needle out. I would be sweating right
- 35:37Speaker 2: until the fucking final moment, like some stuff I can't take,
- 35:40Speaker 2: you know. So I guess it is. It could be
- 35:43Speaker 2: combined with like what we fear in life, or maybe
- 35:47Speaker 2: maybe fear of hard work or fear of effort, who knows,
- 35:49Speaker 2: I don't know. I don't know.
- 35:50Speaker 1: I think it's also being accustomed to pain. You know.
- 35:54Speaker 1: So if you did you wrestle when.
- 35:55Speaker 2: You were younger, No, I played football.
- 35:58Speaker 1: You played football, Well, that's just like that, and that
- 36:00Speaker 1: you're always in pain. I mean, if you're playing football,
- 36:03Speaker 1: you're always colliding with people, You're always you got a shoulders,
- 36:06Speaker 1: fuck with you, your backs, fuck with you. It's like
- 36:08Speaker 1: it's never ending.
- 36:09Speaker 2: I've always said that there's something, there's some value into
- 36:13Speaker 2: losing a fight. Oh yeah. I grew up with four
- 36:15Speaker 2: brothers and we kick the shit out of each other,
- 36:17Speaker 2: and I was not always on the winning side, so
- 36:20Speaker 2: very early on in my life as a young person,
- 36:23Speaker 2: you know what it's like to lose a fight.
- 36:24Speaker 1: Oh, it's very valuable.
- 36:25Speaker 2: And I think that there's a lot maybe to do
- 36:27Speaker 2: with the pain conversation there if like just flat out
- 36:30Speaker 2: getting your ass kicked and then being able to dust
- 36:33Speaker 2: yourself off and me like, I'll get you next time.
- 36:34Speaker 2: You know, like it's not over, you know, right, we're brothers.
- 36:38Speaker 2: We're gonna fight again. You know.
- 36:39Speaker 1: Like I was also knowing like why did he beat me?
- 36:42Speaker 1: What can I do to beat him next time? You know, Like,
- 36:45Speaker 1: if you don't have that in your life. Also, if
- 36:47Speaker 1: you don't know what it feels like to get your
- 36:49Speaker 1: ass kicked, you get a little mouthy. I mean, how
- 36:51Speaker 1: many mouthy people do we know that have never been
- 36:54Speaker 1: fucked up? And I think that's why, Like there's real
- 36:57Speaker 1: consequences if it actually comes down you start yelling and
- 37:01Speaker 1: you get mouthy if it actually comes down to it.
- 37:03Speaker 1: And we've all seen many of these videos on the
- 37:05Speaker 1: internet where someone just don't they don't know what the
- 37:08Speaker 1: fuck they're asking for what they're getting into, and then
- 37:10Speaker 1: all of a sudden they're getting hit.
- 37:11Speaker 2: And man, I'm not perfect, and there are days where
- 37:14Speaker 2: I'm short of patience. But when it gets to that
- 37:16Speaker 2: weird spot of like, yo, someone's gonna get hit in
- 37:19Speaker 2: the face, I always try to like lean on diplomacy.
- 37:22Speaker 1: Always, always yeah.
- 37:24Speaker 2: Please, let's not do that, because that fucking sucks.
- 37:26Speaker 1: And I bet a lot of people say to you,
- 37:28Speaker 1: boohs you, I'd be fucking everybody up. That's the dumb
- 37:31Speaker 1: people always say that, Blake. It doesn't end with that.
- 37:34Speaker 1: Then this guy gets his brother, or he shoots you,
- 37:36Speaker 1: or they run you over the car, or you.
- 37:39Speaker 2: Think you're gonna fuck somebody up and you get fucking
- 37:40Speaker 2: handled rightat Like you never know, man, you never know
- 37:44Speaker 2: anybody else's story, you know, you never know.
- 37:47Speaker 1: There's so many people out there that train today. It's
- 37:49Speaker 1: so much different than when I was younger. Like you
- 37:51Speaker 1: would assume that, like I assume that a good solid
- 37:55Speaker 1: ten percent of all men you meet have martial arts
- 37:58Speaker 1: skills now because of the UFA.
- 38:00Speaker 2: Popularity of it. Yes, certainly, certainly in Western society. Yes,
- 38:05Speaker 2: you know, the gym, there's a gym every plaza.
- 38:07Speaker 1: Also, there's so many kids that like watch UFC and
- 38:10Speaker 1: then play practice with themselves, and you could learn a
- 38:13Speaker 1: lot just doing that. And guys learn a lot just
- 38:17Speaker 1: watching it on TV and then emulating it at home
- 38:19Speaker 1: with their friends.
- 38:20Speaker 2: Can tell those who watch WWE, because when those moments happen,
- 38:22Speaker 2: they try to do something crazy. It doesn't work.
- 38:25Speaker 1: How many guys have fucking thrown their buddy onto a
- 38:27Speaker 1: conference table because they thought it was the way to
- 38:31Speaker 1: do it. It's crazy, you know. I mean, the fucking
- 38:34Speaker 1: sheer amount of punishment you guys put yourself through is staggering.
- 38:39Speaker 2: I mean, it really is staggering. But uh, thank you
- 38:43Speaker 2: very much. It is all for the like it's like
- 38:46Speaker 2: a pro football player, pro hockey player UFC. I think,
- 38:49Speaker 2: I think the beautiful advantage that we have is that
- 38:52Speaker 2: it's we can we can make choices on what we do.
- 38:56Speaker 2: So when you're in UFC and they close the door,
- 38:58Speaker 2: it's kind of fucking person wins. You know, you got
- 39:01Speaker 2: to it's survival. When we're in WWE and we both
- 39:04Speaker 2: step in the ring and they ring the bell, we're
- 39:06Speaker 2: working together. We're working together to put on the best
- 39:08Speaker 2: show for the audience, and in that process you can
- 39:11Speaker 2: calculate the risks you want to take, and I think
- 39:14Speaker 2: that's what allows somebody to be able to perform for
- 39:18Speaker 2: twenty three years. You know, I don't know. I know
- 39:21Speaker 2: that age old stat that everybody says about like the
- 39:24Speaker 2: average NFL careers what two and a half years or
- 39:27Speaker 2: three and a half years. I don't know what the
- 39:28Speaker 2: stat is on average UFC career, like how long? What's
- 39:33Speaker 2: your window to be functionally profitable in UFC? But I
- 39:37Speaker 2: know because our risks are calculated and we're working together
- 39:41Speaker 2: rather than against each other, the math is way higher
- 39:45Speaker 2: for you to have like a ten fifteen twenty year
- 39:48Speaker 2: career in WWE. But that also is ten more years
- 39:53Speaker 2: have fallen down, fifteen more years have fallen down. So yeah,
- 39:56Speaker 2: it's weird, Like you can choreograph the risk, but you
- 39:59Speaker 2: have to do it time and time again. And the
- 40:01Speaker 2: schedule in WW just changed, Like to do seventy matches
- 40:05Speaker 2: a year now in WWE is like, man, you you're
- 40:08Speaker 2: a workhorse. We used to do two hundred and twenty
- 40:10Speaker 2: two hundred and thirty, which is so crazy.
- 40:13Speaker 1: It's two hundred and twenty days of trauma in a
- 40:17Speaker 1: year because you're getting no matter what, you're getting some trauma,
- 40:20Speaker 1: no matter what it God, body slams you, something happened,
- 40:24Speaker 1: you're colliding, you go off the ropes, you're smash again
- 40:26Speaker 1: to each other.
- 40:27Speaker 2: I get such a warm feeling when h first timers
- 40:30Speaker 2: go into the ring for the first time. It's like, oh,
- 40:32Speaker 2: it's like a it's like a bouncy floor. And then
- 40:34Speaker 2: they fall down once and like the winds knocked out
- 40:37Speaker 2: of them. They're like, my brain moved. Man. Yeah, yeah,
- 40:40Speaker 2: now you gotta do it again and again. But it's weird.
- 40:42Speaker 2: I've gotten to work with a lot of stand ups,
- 40:45Speaker 2: and WWE is kind of changing. I would say it's
- 40:48Speaker 2: on the progression of a stand up making it to
- 40:50Speaker 2: just like a stadium tour. But man, when I performed
- 40:54Speaker 2: My sweet Spot, we ran very parallel lives.
- 40:58Speaker 1: Like you.
- 40:59Speaker 2: I've worked every city Hampton Beach Casino Ballroom to Madison
- 41:02Speaker 2: Square Garden like to the Psytoma super Arena, to AT
- 41:06Speaker 2: and T Stadium, to Bangor Maine, or to Valparaiso, Indiana
- 41:10Speaker 2: like you. You go to all of these places. Yeah,
- 41:13Speaker 2: and it's like Friday or in one place, Saturday or
- 41:16Speaker 2: another place Sunday, or in another place Monday, or another
- 41:18Speaker 2: place Tuesday, or another place one day to drop your
- 41:20Speaker 2: shit one day to catch your flight out do it again,
- 41:23Speaker 2: like it's it's it's kind of we were kind of
- 41:25Speaker 2: like touring stand ups in that regardles very similar. Yeah,
- 41:28Speaker 2: and you're you're responsible for your own trans like and
- 41:31Speaker 2: I'm speaking from mighty. I don't know how it is
- 41:33Speaker 2: now because I got one left and then I'm done.
- 41:36Speaker 2: But you're responsible for your own transportation book in your
- 41:38Speaker 2: own hotels like you you were, they were just like, hey,
- 41:42Speaker 2: we're starting here, running here, good luck, which is awesome
- 41:45Speaker 2: because you create people are really independent when they when
- 41:47Speaker 2: they go through that fire and you weed out the
- 41:49Speaker 2: people who don't want to be there.
- 41:51Speaker 1: Yeah, because there's just the sheer work. The sheer work.
- 41:54Speaker 2: Look making those clubs and like making doing a tour.
- 41:56Speaker 4: It's also the adrenaline, Like it's like what do you
- 41:59Speaker 4: do after a night? Like, dude, most jobs people can't
- 42:02Speaker 4: wait to be done and then go home and relax
- 42:05Speaker 4: and fall asleep. Where if you were you're doing stand
- 42:07Speaker 4: up or obviously wrestling, you were just.
- 42:10Speaker 2: You're done late at night and you're like, yeah, man,
- 42:12Speaker 2: what the water rush?
- 42:13Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 42:14Speaker 2: Fuck? What can I do better? This fucking killed four
- 42:17Speaker 2: in the morning. Y.
- 42:18Speaker 1: Yeah, you're buzzing, Yeah, you're buzzing. And it's also it's
- 42:21Speaker 1: really hard to have any kind of a normal relationship
- 42:25Speaker 1: because you're just constantly not home. You're constantly gone, Like
- 42:29Speaker 1: even your friends like you get you. Really as a
- 42:31Speaker 1: touring comic, the best thing that I ever did is
- 42:34Speaker 1: start taking friends with me on the road instead of
- 42:36Speaker 1: just working with like random guys that I didn't know
- 42:39Speaker 1: in different towns. Those are fun sometimes sometimes, like you know,
- 42:43Speaker 1: two out of ten times you meet a new friend, yeah,
- 42:46Speaker 1: eight out of ten times you were with some annoying
- 42:47Speaker 1: alcoholic who fucking sucks and and they're annoying and then
- 42:53Speaker 1: they want to take you someplace and you know, you're
- 42:55Speaker 1: get in trouble.
- 42:56Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, I mean that. That's so certly the normal
- 43:01Speaker 2: life aspect of it. It's also like at full tilt,
- 43:06Speaker 2: it's a very absorbing thing. It's a very selfish thing.
- 43:09Speaker 2: So I think not only you don't work regular office
- 43:12Speaker 2: hours and you're a nomad, a gipsy, but especially from
- 43:17Speaker 2: a WWT perspective, you you have to like you're you're
- 43:20Speaker 2: a startup founder. You have to wake up thinking about it.
- 43:24Speaker 2: You have to think about it all day, you have
- 43:25Speaker 2: to go to sleep thinking about it. Wake up in
- 43:27Speaker 2: the two hours of sleep. Did you get being like
- 43:29Speaker 2: I remember this line or maybe we can do this
- 43:31Speaker 2: stunt or whatever. And it's people who are in your
- 43:35Speaker 2: sphere at least through my perspective and my journey. Man,
- 43:38Speaker 2: if you were in my gravity from like two thousand
- 43:41Speaker 2: and two to like twenty and nineteen, I wasn't a
- 43:46Speaker 2: part of a team. You did it my way. Like
- 43:49Speaker 2: bus leaves at ten. If you're there at ten oh one,
- 43:51Speaker 2: you're a fucking left, Like we're doing this and we're
- 43:54Speaker 2: training here and we're doing this, but it's it's it's
- 43:57Speaker 2: so the end product is good. So like the dream
- 43:59Speaker 2: job of like man, I never the six year old
- 44:01Speaker 2: kid holding the paper belt can be an adult holding
- 44:05Speaker 2: the real belt and get shekels for doing that, And
- 44:07Speaker 2: I don't ever want to. I don't want to put
- 44:08Speaker 2: that in jeopardy. So you fuckers are gonna have to
- 44:11Speaker 2: get in line and we're just gonna have to go
- 44:13Speaker 2: like you you know I I I was absent a
- 44:16Speaker 2: lot in relationships because if it wasn't on my terms,
- 44:19Speaker 2: it didn't exist.
- 44:20Speaker 1: Mmmm.
- 44:21Speaker 2: You know, because here you got you catch lightning out
- 44:24Speaker 2: of a jar. I'm a kid from West Newberry, who's
- 44:26Speaker 2: you know, come from a family of five, and we
- 44:29Speaker 2: there's always more broke, but man, we were a good
- 44:33Speaker 2: level of broke. And then now like, hey, if you
- 44:36Speaker 2: just work hard at this thing, you can kind of
- 44:38Speaker 2: not ever be that again. All right, fuck this, I'm
- 44:40Speaker 2: doing this thing all the time. But that comes with Hey,
- 44:45Speaker 2: I'm getting married, or like my grandfather died, or I
- 44:48Speaker 2: got a birthday coming up, or like hey man, you
- 44:50Speaker 2: missed another Thanksgiving. You're damn right it did because I'm
- 44:53Speaker 2: doing the thing. Yeah, you know, so it's also for
- 44:56Speaker 2: me at least it was. It was that as well
- 44:58Speaker 2: of like laser folks all things WWB.
- 45:02Speaker 1: Well, it's that in everything that you do where you
- 45:05Speaker 1: want to really be successful.
- 45:07Speaker 2: It takes saying yes to the thing means no to
- 45:11Speaker 2: everything else.
- 45:12Speaker 1: I had Jensen Whying on the podcast the other day.
- 45:14Speaker 1: Who's the CEO of Nvidia, like one of the biggest
- 45:18Speaker 1: companies on planet Earth, huge company, fucking dude still to
- 45:22Speaker 1: this day works seven days a week, and he was
- 45:25Speaker 1: talking about when he goes on vacation. I go, do
- 45:27Speaker 1: you go on vacation and just put it all down?
- 45:29Speaker 1: He goes, No, I work, He goes, Even when I'm
- 45:31Speaker 1: with my family, I have to work. I'm working. I'm
- 45:33Speaker 1: work seven days a week. I don't take a day off.
- 45:36Speaker 1: I love it. And he goes, and I'm terrified of failure.
- 45:39Speaker 1: He goes, that's my motivation. My motivation is not I
- 45:42Speaker 1: want to succeed. My motivation is fear of failure.
- 45:45Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 45:46Speaker 1: Every day I show up saying if I don't do this,
- 45:48Speaker 1: we could fail, And I'm gonna work seven days a week.
- 45:51Speaker 1: Everybody thinks they want to be a CEO. You think
- 45:53Speaker 1: you want to be a billionaire? Like you want to
- 45:56Speaker 1: do that? You want to do that when you're sixty
- 45:58Speaker 1: years old? Do you want to be working seven days
- 46:00Speaker 1: a week, all day long, from the moment you wake up?
- 46:02Speaker 1: He wakes up at four thirty in the morning, he says,
- 46:04Speaker 1: he answers thousands of emails a day. I'm like, what
- 46:08Speaker 1: how are you? How is that even fucking possible? Gets
- 46:11Speaker 1: up at four thirty in the morning, answers all these emails,
- 46:13Speaker 1: works all day long, constantly problem solving, making AI chips
- 46:18Speaker 1: fucking crazy right. Yeah, but that's with everything you want
- 46:22Speaker 1: to be at the top of the heap. This only
- 46:24Speaker 1: one way.
- 46:25Speaker 2: Yeah, when you see something difficult, look easy. There's a
- 46:30Speaker 2: bunch of four thirty in the morning wake ups that
- 46:32Speaker 2: made that happen. Yeah.
- 46:33Speaker 1: I think with everything in life. Yeah, anything in life
- 46:36Speaker 1: where you really want to excel at it, there's no shortcuts. Yeah,
- 46:39Speaker 1: it doesn't exist. That weeds a lot of people out.
- 46:42Speaker 2: It does, it does, And there's a lot of man armshair.
- 46:45Speaker 2: Quarterback is the easiest and best position on the field.
- 46:48Speaker 1: Yeah, I could do that.
- 46:49Speaker 2: All you needed to do is do this. Sure, go
- 46:51Speaker 2: right ahead, Yeah, take your best shot.
- 46:53Speaker 1: Yeah, good luck. Yeah, it's it's interesting because it must
- 46:56Speaker 1: weed out so many talented people. There's probably a lot
- 46:58Speaker 1: of talented people that you see over the years that
- 47:01Speaker 1: just didn't have that drive to constantly improve and succeed
- 47:05Speaker 1: and really be thinking about what they're doing all the time.
- 47:07Speaker 2: I I like that statement because I think the talent
- 47:12Speaker 2: is doing it all. You could.
- 47:14Speaker 1: You could have a No, you can have one. You
- 47:16Speaker 1: can smoke if you want. I don't care at fans
- 47:19Speaker 1: in here. Yeah fans.
- 47:23Speaker 2: I think that the statement of man. So many talented
- 47:26Speaker 2: people didn't make it. They may have they may be
- 47:29Speaker 2: an acrobat, they may be a fast talker, but that's
- 47:32Speaker 2: not the only attribute that makes one special. You may
- 47:37Speaker 2: be a great joke writer, but man, if you if
- 47:39Speaker 2: you don't master stage presence. I mean being a joke,
- 47:42Speaker 2: great joke writer with stage presence, but if you can't
- 47:45Speaker 2: lug the tour, you're not You're not talented for it.
- 47:49Speaker 1: Well, it's it's really the grind.
- 47:51Speaker 2: It is in everything, all encompassing things. So when someone
- 47:54Speaker 2: with great athletic ability decides that it's not for them,
- 47:57Speaker 2: because eventually that is one thing about WWE. For all
- 48:03Speaker 2: the arguments of like backstage Politico, everybody understands the sound
- 48:08Speaker 2: of money and no one refuses it. Like I fucking
- 48:14Speaker 2: hate this guy, but I got to give him another match.
- 48:17Speaker 2: It may not be but I now have to give
- 48:19Speaker 2: him a ten year contract. But when they go out there,
- 48:22Speaker 2: if the noise is there, even if the theys fucking
- 48:25Speaker 2: hate you, you get another match. I am proof positive
- 48:29Speaker 2: of that meritocracy at work. Like everybody fucking hated me.
- 48:34Speaker 2: I was just real different, Like I I was just
- 48:37Speaker 2: really different. So I didn't rock. I didn't roughly feathers
- 48:44Speaker 2: when I kind of entered the business, kept quiet, did
- 48:47Speaker 2: my stuff, but I also didn't connect with the audience.
- 48:50Speaker 2: And and I don't know, maybe you guys see this
- 48:52Speaker 2: in stand up or not, but then I got like
- 48:53Speaker 2: a personality of like the white rap guy, like the
- 48:56Speaker 2: white hip hop guy.
- 48:57Speaker 4: You know about that, but like I, I.
- 49:00Speaker 2: Fucking went I fucking went all in, you know, an
- 49:04Speaker 2: urban gear like, and I'm a hip hop head. So
- 49:06Speaker 2: it's like, oh man, this is my sweet spot, this
- 49:08Speaker 2: is the avenue. This isn't all of my personality, but
- 49:12Speaker 2: this is one level that I can show that I
- 49:14Speaker 2: think everyone will get. So if you go to Madison
- 49:17Speaker 2: Square Garden, you get it. But if we go to Wheeling,
- 49:19Speaker 2: West Virginia, you'll also get it. And you may like
- 49:22Speaker 2: it in some places and hate it in some places,
- 49:24Speaker 2: but everyone will get it. I will not be selling apathy.
- 49:27Speaker 2: But in doing that, I never followed dress code. I
- 49:31Speaker 2: was saying disrespectful shit about my peers. Like I kind
- 49:34Speaker 2: of did it my own way. So I was I
- 49:38Speaker 2: was kind of roffling some feathers backstage, or just I
- 49:41Speaker 2: was taking big swings because I was gonna fucking get
- 49:43Speaker 2: fired anyway. The alternative was lose my job. So I
- 49:46Speaker 2: was like, fuck it, I'm going down swinging. And then
- 49:50Speaker 2: the people behind the curtain were like, ah, the kid's
- 49:52Speaker 2: disrespectful of the business. He doesn't care about the business.
- 49:55Speaker 2: All the while I just want to keep my fucking job,
- 49:57Speaker 2: you know. So the theys behind curtain weren't really invested,
- 50:02Speaker 2: but they were also humble enough to be like, there's
- 50:05Speaker 2: noise out there. Got to give him another match, and
- 50:08Speaker 2: one match at a time, times twenty three years of
- 50:11Speaker 2: compounding interest, we're here.
- 50:13Speaker 1: What did Vince think about your hip hop?
- 50:15Speaker 2: Hated it and they loved it. He hated it and
- 50:19Speaker 2: then loved it. And I think I'm thinking for somebody,
- 50:23Speaker 2: But I think from his perspective is like when I
- 50:26Speaker 2: hear somebody's idea for a personality, Man, I want to
- 50:29Speaker 2: be this sports asan guy or whatever. Oh yo, I
- 50:32Speaker 2: have the idea of what that is in my head.
- 50:35Speaker 2: And if their projection of that idea doesn't match my
- 50:38Speaker 2: projection of that idea, I'm like, ah, fuck, I hate it,
- 50:40Speaker 2: but that doesn't mean it can't work. So I think
- 50:42Speaker 2: what maybe what happened was my perspective of the white
- 50:48Speaker 2: hip hop guy from the mean street of West Newbery
- 50:51Speaker 2: and Vince's perspective of John Cena the rapper. We probably
- 50:56Speaker 2: missed like he had an idea and I had an idea,
- 51:00Speaker 2: and usually he will craft it to his vision. I
- 51:03Speaker 2: got to give him respect for allowing me to to
- 51:06Speaker 2: kind of to run with it.
- 51:07Speaker 1: You know, well, it's probably that fear of fire being
- 51:10Speaker 1: fired that like keeps you on the edge.
- 51:13Speaker 2: That was it of like the Nvidio guy of like
- 51:16Speaker 2: I don't want to fail. I got the sit down
- 51:18Speaker 2: of like, hey, we're gonna cut you because it's not working.
- 51:21Speaker 2: Like you're out there for your matches, you hear the
- 51:24Speaker 2: same thing. It's not working, and there's no argument there,
- 51:27Speaker 2: Like fucking all right. I got to touch the sun.
- 51:30Speaker 2: I got to make it. I got to play for
- 51:31Speaker 2: the Yankees, I got my one at bad I'm Moonlight
- 51:33Speaker 2: Graham And then they heard me wrap in the back
- 51:36Speaker 2: of the bus and was like, man, Stephanie heard me
- 51:38Speaker 2: wrap in the back of the bus and was like, yo,
- 51:40Speaker 2: you want to do that on TV? I might lose
- 51:42Speaker 2: my job or fucking wrap. Yeah, let's go, let's let's
- 51:45Speaker 2: do this. And it was a fucking accident, dude, it
- 51:50Speaker 2: was an accident. It's my final, my final overseas tour
- 51:52Speaker 2: for the WWE, and the boys just spend time like
- 51:56Speaker 2: that's the one time they get the whole group together.
- 51:58Speaker 2: It's overseas because you don't want to be hurt and cats,
- 52:00Speaker 2: Like in Amsterdam or something, everybody rides on the bus
- 52:03Speaker 2: you go from town to town, so like to pass
- 52:05Speaker 2: the time, the boys just do whatever. And they were
- 52:08Speaker 2: freestyle on the back of the bus. And I normally
- 52:10Speaker 2: just fucking kept to myself because I was raised in
- 52:13Speaker 2: the environment of like keep your ears open, keep your
- 52:15Speaker 2: mouth shut, don't do anything less spoken to, so I
- 52:18Speaker 2: did that, but I didn't. I also didn't make any
- 52:20Speaker 2: connections with people who were putting their lives on the
- 52:22Speaker 2: line for me. You know, some of the guys you
- 52:25Speaker 2: really beat the shit out of you in your rings
- 52:27Speaker 2: are like your best friends. So I didn't have any
- 52:31Speaker 2: of those connections. And I heard these guys rapp and
- 52:32Speaker 2: I just remember playing roller Coaster Tycoon on my laptop
- 52:36Speaker 2: full match it up, putting it away and be like
- 52:38Speaker 2: I'm going to the back of the bus and just
- 52:40Speaker 2: waited my turn, and then fillaid like twelve guys. Yeah,
- 52:45Speaker 2: And Stephanie was like, how the fuck did you remember
- 52:47Speaker 2: all that? Like, no, no, it's freestyle. You just make it up.
- 52:49Speaker 2: And she's like, well, make up something about me. And
- 52:51Speaker 2: we were boarding a plane and I literally like utilize
- 52:55Speaker 2: the plane, the people getting on the plane, what she
- 52:57Speaker 2: was wearing, what she was eating. She's like, would you
- 52:58Speaker 2: do this on TV? And that's where we got a chance.
- 53:02Speaker 1: Wow.
- 53:03Speaker 2: And it wasn't like off to the moon, Like I
- 53:06Speaker 2: got a shitty chance on a small spot and that worked.
- 53:11Speaker 2: So then I got moved to like the dog shit
- 53:14Speaker 2: Saturday night program that nobody watches. But the cool thing
- 53:17Speaker 2: is no one's watching, so like I could do whatever
- 53:19Speaker 2: I want it. So I started saying more racy shit
- 53:22Speaker 2: and dressing more outlandish and having more personality and like
- 53:26Speaker 2: claiming ownership of the show. I call myself mister Saturday
- 53:29Speaker 2: Night and it's the shitty show. You don't want to
- 53:31Speaker 2: be mister Saturday Night, but I did. And then that
- 53:34Speaker 2: got another match and got another match, and one by
- 53:36Speaker 2: one it kind of brought me here.
- 53:38Speaker 1: Wow.
- 53:39Speaker 2: Just a fucking happy accident. Man.
- 53:41Speaker 1: That's crazy all the way.
- 53:43Speaker 2: And even when the bells were like, hey, you want't
- 53:45Speaker 2: the whole thing is a fucking accident. You want to
- 53:47Speaker 2: start training? Fuck yeah? Sure, all right, and so you
- 53:51Speaker 2: want to start rapping? Yeah, fuck it. Sure, that's amazing,
- 53:55Speaker 2: a happy accident.
- 53:56Speaker 4: And for it to go all the way to last
- 53:58Speaker 4: year's massive heeled turn. He went heel, dude, and that
- 54:04Speaker 4: was this year, by the way, Yeah, yeah, that was
- 54:06Speaker 4: this Yes, great year. Yeah that was that was a mania.
- 54:12Speaker 4: And man, one literally, perhaps other than maybe Hogan, right,
- 54:19Speaker 4: the greatest He'll turn in wrestling history when a good, good, good, good, good,
- 54:24Speaker 4: crowd pleasing guy goes bad, bad, and dark. You had moments.
- 54:29Speaker 4: The things you were saying, the way you were saying
- 54:31Speaker 4: them epic, iconic, iconic. He'll turn cold dark working with
- 54:38Speaker 4: the Rock, he was in cahoots. That's the good guy,
- 54:40Speaker 4: Cody and I.
- 54:41Speaker 2: See the people's faces. That that's the fun thing. It's like,
- 54:45Speaker 2: this stuff is so simple, but it's it's the if
- 54:48Speaker 2: you take out the crowd in that situation and just
- 54:50Speaker 2: put those three guys, it is really fucked up what
- 54:52Speaker 2: we do. But when you add the audience in the
- 54:54Speaker 2: back and all of their faces and what's going on,
- 54:56Speaker 2: that's what makes it even your face.
- 54:58Speaker 1: You you you got like a mean guy I face.
- 55:00Speaker 1: All of a sudden, it's like you look at a
- 55:02Speaker 1: different person. That's interesting.
- 55:04Speaker 2: I was having a bad day.
- 55:07Speaker 1: Well this is also when you'd already done a bunch
- 55:09Speaker 1: of acting.
- 55:10Speaker 2: Uh yes, this is this year. Yeah, yeah, yeah, this
- 55:13Speaker 2: is a February this year. Yeah.
- 55:16Speaker 4: How much of the creative control do you have over
- 55:20Speaker 4: the aspects of that heel turn?
- 55:23Speaker 1: Like?
- 55:23Speaker 4: For example, one thing that I thought was the coolest.
- 55:28Speaker 4: I was in the front row of WrestleMania, behind the
- 55:32Speaker 4: Spanish announced table, so I'm directly across from the entrance.
- 55:36Speaker 4: You know, the giant resume is a football stadium in
- 55:39Speaker 4: Las Vegas, and there was no music, and it was
- 55:43Speaker 4: a black background. Normally he's the most color with the
- 55:46Speaker 4: most iconic loud, wild music, no music, black background, and
- 55:52Speaker 4: in white letters it just said Sina and you just
- 55:55Speaker 4: walked out with at Literally this statement was I'm not
- 56:01Speaker 4: here to entertain you people, basically is what it felt like.
- 56:04Speaker 4: And I loved it. I mean, this is the mainia.
- 56:08Speaker 2: So entertained. I mean I want to entertaining. Fuck I
- 56:10Speaker 2: fucked up.
- 56:11Speaker 4: Yeah, I have a I'm a I have a degree
- 56:14Speaker 4: in pro wrestling, but my masters is and healed them
- 56:17Speaker 4: like it's like the bad I just love a bad guy,
- 56:21Speaker 4: and even ever since that bad guy turn, I feel
- 56:26Speaker 4: like and I feel like most bad guy fans do
- 56:29Speaker 4: now newly connected with the back to the return of
- 56:32Speaker 4: the good guy seeing it. Yeah it is, oh, I
- 56:34Speaker 4: mean it's it was literally just I.
- 56:37Speaker 2: Used to come out like a Tasmanian devil. Yeah, it's
- 56:39Speaker 2: just just reversed.
- 56:40Speaker 4: It all and it seems like nothing, but it's iconic,
- 56:46Speaker 4: just cold as ice everyone else for four hours coming
- 56:49Speaker 4: out with colorful music and Pyro and all this stuff.
- 56:53Speaker 4: And there's the guy that normally did it the best
- 56:55Speaker 4: and the biggest, just really not giving a.
- 56:58Speaker 2: Fun and WrestleMania. If you're gonna do it like you'd
- 57:02Speaker 2: give your best entrance for WrestleMania, and this is I
- 57:06Speaker 2: guess we were going for the shittiest one, but it.
- 57:09Speaker 4: Just rang the opposite and simple and true.
- 57:13Speaker 1: The Octagon isn't just in Las Vegas anymore. It's right

- 58:31Speaker 4: So like, for example, those things, those details, that's you
- 58:36Speaker 4: mostly pitching to the creative team, like for example, like
- 58:39Speaker 4: the even just the white letters the black entrance is that,
- 58:43Speaker 4: how does that kind of come together?
- 58:45Speaker 2: So I think that's I've and I've been lucky enough
- 58:49Speaker 2: to kind of take this perspective of not knowing everything
- 58:53Speaker 2: and realizing that even even with twenty three years of fluency,
- 58:56Speaker 2: I'm not the smartest guy in the room. I don't
- 58:59Speaker 2: know the technology they have and what they can do. Now. Granted,
- 59:02Speaker 2: a black led board I could probably come up with that.
- 59:05Speaker 2: But what I like to do is lean on my resources, Like, Hey,
- 59:10Speaker 2: let's go to production and see what production is thinking.
- 59:13Speaker 2: And I don't want to tell them what to do
- 59:15Speaker 2: because I want to hear their ideas first. And Production
- 59:18Speaker 2: was like, what if we just went basic? I'm like,
- 59:21Speaker 2: how basic can you go? What if we just blacked
- 59:24Speaker 2: everything out?
- 59:24Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 59:25Speaker 2: But I know from what you guys have said, you
- 59:27Speaker 2: also like to light the ot. No, No, what if
- 59:28Speaker 2: we just black everything out? You guys would do that?
- 59:31Speaker 2: Oh that sucks. Yeah, let's do that. So it's not
- 59:35Speaker 2: me with all of these things. I don't have enough
- 59:38Speaker 2: depth of field to touch all the bases. But I
- 59:41Speaker 2: will go to every department and say like, okay, entrance
- 59:45Speaker 2: is a big part of what we do. What do
- 59:46Speaker 2: we do for lighting, what do we do for production?
- 59:49Speaker 2: Go to camera like how do you guys want to
- 59:50Speaker 2: shoot it? And then it trickles down when you talk
- 59:53Speaker 2: to the talent you're working with. How do we portray
- 59:55Speaker 2: this message? And then of course it starts at the
- 59:59Speaker 2: top with creatively, I want to make you a bad guy.
- 1:00:01Speaker 2: So we're going to do that. Okay, sure we're going
- 1:00:03Speaker 2: to do that. How do you want to do that?
- 1:00:05Speaker 2: But it's I think it's getting We have a lot
- 1:00:07Speaker 2: of talented people and just allowing them to do their
- 1:00:09Speaker 2: job and let you know like, oh I was kind
- 1:00:11Speaker 2: of thinking this, and then tell them like, yeah, that's
- 1:00:13Speaker 2: a good idea. Let's do that.
- 1:00:15Speaker 4: Yeah, you know, it's amazing.
- 1:00:16Speaker 2: Because I don't I don't know what I miss if
- 1:00:18Speaker 2: I'm making all the demands to.
- 1:00:20Speaker 4: Show you the contrast, his opponent that night came out

- 1:00:30Speaker 4: He comes out elevated from inside of the stage wearing

- 1:00:37Speaker 4: fire sparks, smoke, all of these different things, and he
- 1:00:41Speaker 4: just comes out blank face.
- 1:00:42Speaker 2: I just got my bunk sock on the back. Just
- 1:00:45Speaker 2: run there you go.
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: It's so funny here and Tony talk about this because
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: for people who don't know, the way Tony runs kill
- 1:00:53Speaker 1: Tony is basically a version of a WWE event. Really
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: is like when he does the arena shows, he has
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: everything set up like a WWE event. Yeah, I mean
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: even the thing we did with Shane, which Shane was
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: playing when Shane was playing Trump, when Trump and I
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: were supposedly feuding online, Trump said something about me online.
- 1:01:16Speaker 1: And then Trump's talking shit like as Shane's talking shit,
- 1:01:20Speaker 1: and then the music plays and I show up behind him.
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: It's pure pro wrestling. Oh yeah, it's pure pro wrestling.
- 1:01:24Speaker 4: And MSG's on their feet shocked. You know, you're surprising
- 1:01:28Speaker 4: this crowd that thinks they're just there for a comedy show.
- 1:01:31Speaker 4: And well there's the panel. I guess that's what we're
- 1:01:33Speaker 4: gonna have tonight. But the surprises, the ups, the downs,
- 1:01:38Speaker 4: and then he brings up Joey Diaz. So it's like
- 1:01:40Speaker 4: boom boom, kind of like that big finish at Mania
- 1:01:44Speaker 4: that I was talking about. Yeah, superstar bringing up a superstar.
- 1:01:48Speaker 4: You know, music, music, smoke, fire, Yes, all these little things.
- 1:01:51Speaker 2: The more the more you make it important, the more
- 1:01:53Speaker 2: important it becomes.
- 1:01:54Speaker 1: Yeah, as what he's saying is like when Trump was there,
- 1:01:58Speaker 1: just as Trump was running for president, Trump thought that
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: I was endorsing RFK, so we got mad at me.
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: So I said, I am here to endorse someone, and
- 1:02:04Speaker 1: I brought out Joey Dias, which is great because get revealed,
- 1:02:09Speaker 1: but you get a different and everybody what nuts. And
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: but it's like the audience they're into it, like they're
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: into pro wrestling. They want all the heel turns. They
- 1:02:19Speaker 1: want all the chaos, they want all the pageantry and
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: the fire and the explosions and all the ship man you.
- 1:02:25Speaker 2: Get you get any live audience, they're into all that.
- 1:02:28Speaker 2: Like watch a college football game, watch right, watch a
- 1:02:31Speaker 2: soccer game overseas or of football, as they would say,
- 1:02:34Speaker 2: like the fans, it's it's like a group think of energy.
- 1:02:38Speaker 2: That's fucking nuts. Audiences wanted. It doesn't matter where you're at,
- 1:02:44Speaker 2: Like what man would comics just go out and light
- 1:02:47Speaker 2: up a stage and they have that fucking stage presence
- 1:02:49Speaker 2: and they just slay a set. The fucking audience is
- 1:02:51Speaker 2: rolling in the aisles like they you you let them,
- 1:02:55Speaker 2: You let them in, and they they can help make
- 1:02:58Speaker 2: a joke that might not hit the night before. It's
- 1:03:00Speaker 2: lay like it's it's all about the moment. It's all
- 1:03:03Speaker 2: about being there and reading the people. And the fun
- 1:03:06Speaker 2: thing about WWE is you can you can go out
- 1:03:09Speaker 2: there with an idea and kind I can only imagine
- 1:03:11Speaker 2: this as kind of like stand up where if you
- 1:03:13Speaker 2: got your set and you tell the first joke to crickets,
- 1:03:16Speaker 2: you may try another joke and if that's crickets, you
- 1:03:18Speaker 2: gotta fucking pivot.
- 1:03:19Speaker 1: Yea.
- 1:03:20Speaker 2: So we go out, we go out and do something
- 1:03:22Speaker 2: and oh man, they're into it. Great, all right, we
- 1:03:26Speaker 2: have them. We just got to maintain their attention until
- 1:03:29Speaker 2: we get to act three. Essentially, but if you hear
- 1:03:32Speaker 2: fucking crickets, you're like, all right, we're switching it up,
- 1:03:34Speaker 2: fucking pivot right now, and you that's the beauty. That's
- 1:03:38Speaker 2: That's one of the things that I love the most
- 1:03:40Speaker 2: is the it's not just me and the other person
- 1:03:43Speaker 2: out there, like the audience is the act every like
- 1:03:46Speaker 2: that moment only means something. If you put a blue
- 1:03:49Speaker 2: screen behind the people, it is super fucked up, like
- 1:03:52Speaker 2: what the fuck are they doing? And why does that
- 1:03:53Speaker 2: mean anything? Right? But when you let the level of
- 1:03:56Speaker 2: the audience and everybody's on their feet and they're go no,
- 1:03:58Speaker 2: like it's fun and everything. It's everything.
- 1:04:01Speaker 1: That's why Tony's so interested in the coordination of it all,
- 1:04:04Speaker 1: and the setting and the sabotage and all the chaos
- 1:04:07Speaker 1: that's involved in all of that.
- 1:04:08Speaker 2: These are human emotions that are universal. Everyone understands betrayal, jealousy, anger, disappointment, failure, excitement,
- 1:04:17Speaker 2: Like these are universal things that you if we don't
- 1:04:21Speaker 2: speak the same language, you still have felt these things.
- 1:04:24Speaker 2: And you could watch that. No one spoke in that clip,
- 1:04:28Speaker 2: but you could watch that anywhere in the world. Meg
- 1:04:31Speaker 2: that kid just got fucked over. What's gonna happen next?
- 1:04:35Speaker 2: Like that's the beautiful appeal of it. You know, it's
- 1:04:38Speaker 2: we don't hit too far above our weight class, like
- 1:04:41Speaker 2: we try to send large scale universal messages based on true,
- 1:04:45Speaker 2: real human emotion that we all know.
- 1:04:47Speaker 4: Yeah, and up to that day, that moment, like even
- 1:04:51Speaker 4: that thing that we were just telling you about me
- 1:04:53Speaker 4: bringing him coming out, that being a revealed him bringing
- 1:04:57Speaker 4: up Diaz was coordinated literally I think fifteen minutes before
- 1:05:03Speaker 4: just go time. Yeah, like literally me with a with
- 1:05:06Speaker 4: a big piece of paper going, hey, Joe, what if
- 1:05:09Speaker 4: we did this? He confirms it. So I go to
- 1:05:12Speaker 4: hair and makeup where they're finishing up. Shane is Trump,
- 1:05:15Speaker 4: which in itself is just hysterical. I pitch it to him.
- 1:05:19Speaker 4: He loves it. I go to dia as I say,
- 1:05:21Speaker 4: Rogan's gonna bring you up, and the thing happens quick.
- 1:05:24Speaker 4: Whereas with almost, you know, every form of entertainment that
- 1:05:27Speaker 4: we're used to other than wrestling and like kind of
- 1:05:33Speaker 4: you know, kill Tony, in this instance, everything's so pre
- 1:05:37Speaker 4: planned that if we over pre planned it, we wouldn't
- 1:05:40Speaker 4: have had the topical RFK endorsement because it was like
- 1:05:43Speaker 4: news that yes, sure, and so again that inspiration, you know,
- 1:05:49Speaker 4: totally comes from there, because what else is doing that
- 1:05:52Speaker 4: at MSG ten minutes before the show reorganizing things. So
- 1:05:56Speaker 4: now we show the production and go have Rogans led
- 1:06:02Speaker 4: ready and then d As in that order. You know,
- 1:06:06Speaker 4: it comes from that.
- 1:06:07Speaker 2: And when it goes right, there's not a better feeling.
- 1:06:09Speaker 4: Than exactly I just get to sit back and watch.
- 1:06:12Speaker 1: Yeah, but it's so funny that that connection with pro
- 1:06:15Speaker 1: wrestling is really why you've made to kill Tony the
- 1:06:19Speaker 1: way it is. Like without your love of pro wrestling,
- 1:06:23Speaker 1: it would be such a different show. Like if it
- 1:06:25Speaker 1: was just run like a traditional stand up show. It's
- 1:06:29Speaker 1: there's so much else going on to it makes it
- 1:06:32Speaker 1: the biggest show.
- 1:06:33Speaker 4: Yeah, well, it's long term storytelling. We had a guy
- 1:06:36Speaker 4: on on Monday that had been doing it fourteen years
- 1:06:40Speaker 4: and man, he just is timing was off. He struggled
- 1:06:44Speaker 4: even after the minute. I go, you've been doing it
- 1:06:45Speaker 4: fourteen years? He goes, yeah, Man, I go, what do
- 1:06:47Speaker 4: you How do you make money? He goes, I do this?
- 1:06:50Speaker 4: I go, you do this for a living? He goes, yeah,
- 1:06:54Speaker 4: I go, you must have better material. I'm going to
- 1:06:57Speaker 4: give you another shot, do another minute. Here we go, oh,
- 1:07:00Speaker 4: ladies and gentlemen, And I introduced him again and he
- 1:07:02Speaker 4: bombs again and literally I was talking with it about
- 1:07:08Speaker 4: it with Stephanie after the show because she just happened
- 1:07:10Speaker 4: to be at Kiltony on Monday, and she goes a
- 1:07:14Speaker 4: guy like that, you know what, you know what happens next?
- 1:07:17Speaker 4: They go hopefully, hopefully, the guy gets pulled out of
- 1:07:21Speaker 4: the bucket in a month or two, has a great set,
- 1:07:23Speaker 4: puts it together, realizes his timing was off. He wasn't
- 1:07:26Speaker 4: taking a breath, he wasn't connecting with the crowd, he
- 1:07:30Speaker 4: was just memorizing his stuff. And the story begins to
- 1:07:33Speaker 4: be told about this guy. And sometimes it happens in reverse.
- 1:07:37Speaker 4: Sometimes somebody starts off you know, fire.
- 1:07:40Speaker 2: Hot rockets strapped to the back yep.
- 1:07:43Speaker 4: And then and that's kind of the sadder thing, right
- 1:07:47Speaker 4: is starting hot and then never being able to touch
- 1:07:49Speaker 4: that again. Have a moment like your first time.
- 1:07:52Speaker 1: It's like we were talking about people with talent. We all
- 1:07:54Speaker 1: know someone who killed during open mic days that we
- 1:07:57Speaker 1: were like, Wow, this guy's gonna be huge, undeniable talent,
- 1:08:01Speaker 1: and they just can't manage it. They can't figure it out.
- 1:08:04Speaker 1: They self sabotage, they get addicted to drugs or alcohols
- 1:08:08Speaker 1: or whatever it is.
- 1:08:09Speaker 2: There's so many things. Yeah, it's not just the ability
- 1:08:12Speaker 2: to go out and do the task. Well, there's so
- 1:08:15Speaker 2: many variables that will fuck you up. Yeah, dude, you're right,
- 1:08:19Speaker 2: so many. So many gifted people have just just have
- 1:08:24Speaker 2: that roadblock in front.
- 1:08:25Speaker 1: Of them, Which is why I think conversations with successful
- 1:08:28Speaker 1: people are so important because you get to hear those stories.
- 1:08:32Speaker 1: You get to hear like with Jensen the other day,
- 1:08:34Speaker 1: he was talking about how in Video was basically bankrupt.
- 1:08:36Speaker 1: They were on their way out and someone gave them
- 1:08:38Speaker 1: a chance, like some one guy that was an investor
- 1:08:42Speaker 1: gave him a chance, and then they wound up becoming successful,
- 1:08:45Speaker 1: and then there was this these moments, and people need
- 1:08:49Speaker 1: to know that you're gonna have those hurdles, You're gonna
- 1:08:53Speaker 1: have those roadblocks. You're gonna have to figure out how
- 1:08:55Speaker 1: to adjust. It's not easy. No one who's been successful
- 1:09:00Speaker 1: at anything, We'll tell you the whole ride was easy.
- 1:09:03Speaker 2: Yeah, but a lot of the time. Sometimes, man, sometimes
- 1:09:05Speaker 2: we'll be in it. I so I've been through like
- 1:09:10Speaker 2: three generations of knowledge and learning, twenty three years in
- 1:09:15Speaker 2: the business that operating at a high level, I have
- 1:09:17Speaker 2: seen thousands and like it is the man, if you're
- 1:09:23Speaker 2: a stud in pee football league, then you go to
- 1:09:25Speaker 2: this junior high school, and then you're the number one
- 1:09:27Speaker 2: player in college, and then you're the number one player
- 1:09:30Speaker 2: in high school and umber one player in college, eke
- 1:09:33Speaker 2: out a spot in the NFL, and then a year
- 1:09:35Speaker 2: later you're gone because the funnel just gets so thin.
- 1:09:38Speaker 2: Like WWE has like two hundred personnel in their NXT
- 1:09:43Speaker 2: development program right now. Maybe ten will make it. Maybe
- 1:09:47Speaker 2: and of those ten, like really honestly, maybe one will
- 1:09:51Speaker 2: make it. And what the hope is is, over a
- 1:09:55Speaker 2: six year period, of those classes of two hundred that
- 1:09:59Speaker 2: get triculated probably every four months, so we're talking six
- 1:10:03Speaker 2: thousand people, I'm hoping one makes it. Wow, in five
- 1:10:08Speaker 2: or six years, I need one because my top guy
- 1:10:11Speaker 2: right now, my Roman Reigns, and Cody Rhodes and the
- 1:10:14Speaker 2: Charlotte Flairs and Becky Lynches of the world, like they'll
- 1:10:18Speaker 2: they'll last half a decade to draw. Maybe if we're lucky,
- 1:10:21Speaker 2: maybe we'll get it more. They can, you know, maybe
- 1:10:24Speaker 2: parlay it into a decade or two. But that's an anomaly.
- 1:10:27Speaker 2: You got to play the legit math of Like, after
- 1:10:29Speaker 2: five years, I better have somebody in the on deck circle.
- 1:10:32Speaker 2: M So, out of like five six thousand I just
- 1:10:36Speaker 2: need one, but it's still everybody's biting their fingernails of
- 1:10:39Speaker 2: like we don't have the person yet. It's so many
- 1:10:42Speaker 2: folks just don't make it. Just don't make it.
- 1:10:46Speaker 1: Yeah, that's that's the parallel to stand up. Yeah, it's man,
- 1:10:49Speaker 1: so that you know, there's so many people that we
- 1:10:52Speaker 1: were talking last night in the green.
- 1:10:53Speaker 2: Room, thousands, and when I see them like in the
- 1:10:56Speaker 2: ring do stuff, I'm like, I could never do that,
- 1:10:59Speaker 2: but they just won't. They just don't make it.
- 1:11:01Speaker 1: It's just there's so many things that fuck people up,
- 1:11:04Speaker 1: so much, self sabotage, to so much inability to stay
- 1:11:08Speaker 1: the court in.
- 1:11:08Speaker 2: Own worst enemy.
- 1:11:09Speaker 1: Mm hmm.
- 1:11:10Speaker 2: You know, I don't know, Yeah, I don't know. Yeah,
- 1:11:15Speaker 2: happy accidents though, fuck it.
- 1:11:16Speaker 1: Well, yeah, happy accidents, but not just that. It's you
- 1:11:20Speaker 1: being able to stay on course and you being able
- 1:11:23Speaker 1: to recognize that, you know, okay, this didn't work. What
- 1:11:26Speaker 1: do I do? You want me to rap? Okay, I'll
- 1:11:29Speaker 1: fucking rap, Like a lot of people would have been like,
- 1:11:31Speaker 1: I'm not fucking rapping.
- 1:11:33Speaker 2: That's beneath me. I'm here to be a wrestler. I'm
- 1:11:36Speaker 2: not a gimmick.
- 1:11:36Speaker 1: I'm not going to be a buffoon.
- 1:11:38Speaker 2: Yeah, I'll be a buffoon because realiz.
- 1:11:42Speaker 1: But not only that, it's part of the entertainment of
- 1:11:44Speaker 1: it all, even the cringe aspect of it where people
- 1:11:47Speaker 1: are like, whats going on here? Yeah, it's great. He
- 1:11:51Speaker 1: loves that ship.
- 1:11:52Speaker 4: Oh it's the best.
- 1:11:53Speaker 2: It's the best.
- 1:11:54Speaker 4: You know who my guy is right now? Dominic Mysterious
- 1:11:57Speaker 4: love them. Oh my god, he's Were you no, you're here?
- 1:12:03Speaker 2: I was gonna you weren't at Peco? Were you no? Ah? Gosh,
- 1:12:06Speaker 2: we had fun over there.
- 1:12:07Speaker 4: I bet I was. I caught a lot of it.
- 1:12:09Speaker 2: Yeah. Man, that kid's good too, like good, good human beings.
- 1:12:12Speaker 4: I happened to be in Salt Lake City doing a gig.
- 1:12:17Speaker 4: I was doing stand up in one arena, and the
- 1:12:19Speaker 4: WWE happened to be in the other arena in Salt
- 1:12:22Speaker 4: Lake City just a few weeks ago, and I'm like, ah, darn,
- 1:12:26Speaker 4: but I look it up and it's a five PM
- 1:12:28Speaker 4: taping of WWE. So I hit up my friends at
- 1:12:31Speaker 4: ww I go, I'm coming in. I'm bringing my openers
- 1:12:34Speaker 4: right Uh. Anyway, Dominic Mysterio is in a triple threat match,
- 1:12:39Speaker 4: and his whole thing is he's wrestling royalties, Ray Mysterio's son,
- 1:12:44Speaker 4: but he claims that he might be Eddie Guerrero's son
- 1:12:46Speaker 4: because he took because his father's, you know, one of
- 1:12:49Speaker 4: the ultimate good guys of all time. So basically he
- 1:12:53Speaker 4: takes on the the traits of Eddie Guerrero, whose whole
- 1:12:58Speaker 4: thing was cheating and lying and stealing, breaking the rules
- 1:13:03Speaker 4: in original ways all the time. And he's doing a
- 1:13:06Speaker 4: triple threat match, which means there's three guys at once, right,
- 1:13:10Speaker 4: but if the if someone beats anybody, you could lose
- 1:13:14Speaker 4: your belt. And his intercontinental champions I think it's intercontinental, right,
- 1:13:18Speaker 4: is on the line, and he gets thrown outside the ring,
- 1:13:21Speaker 4: and I'm having fun, right, I go, Dominic cheat, do
- 1:13:24Speaker 4: something right, And he's kind of on the other side
- 1:13:27Speaker 4: of the thing, and he lifts up his head and
- 1:13:29Speaker 4: looks at me and goes like that. He gives a
- 1:13:30Speaker 4: big wing and then he goes back down again, and
- 1:13:34Speaker 4: I'm cracking up. I go, did you see that? I'm
- 1:13:35Speaker 4: next to Pauli Shore, I go, do you just see
- 1:13:37Speaker 4: him wing? He goes, yeah, Man, what's he gonna do?
- 1:13:39Speaker 6: Bro?
- 1:13:41Speaker 4: But these two guys in the ring are wrestling and
- 1:13:43Speaker 4: one of them has the other one in a submission,
- 1:13:46Speaker 4: hold the camel clutch. I can't remember who it was,
- 1:13:48Speaker 4: but anyway, and I'm you. I literally even me watching
- 1:13:53Speaker 4: since I was a kid, And even though he just
- 1:13:56Speaker 4: winked at me, it was just enough time I forgot
- 1:13:59Speaker 4: that dom was over there, because this action in the
- 1:14:02Speaker 4: ring has really happened, and something's about to happen. And
- 1:14:05Speaker 4: you hear the bell ring and I look over and
- 1:14:07Speaker 4: there's Dominic with the hammer in his hand, ringing the bell,
- 1:14:11Speaker 4: and the guy lets go of the submission, and the
- 1:14:13Speaker 4: referee goes, what the hell? And something I hadn't seen
- 1:14:17Speaker 4: in thirty five years of watching this thing, he was
- 1:14:22Speaker 4: he's innovative enough to find a brand new way to
- 1:14:26Speaker 4: cheat in this Yeah, a brand new way to cheat.
- 1:14:31Speaker 4: And the crowd everybody's cracking up.
- 1:14:34Speaker 2: Yeah, it's a whole.
- 1:14:35Speaker 4: New right when you think you've seen it all, this
- 1:14:39Speaker 4: guy who you would love, he's literally like built like me.
- 1:14:42Speaker 4: He flexes like Nate Diez without flexing, and he's just braggadocious.
- 1:14:48Speaker 4: Oh yeah, he thinks he thinks he one, but the
- 1:14:51Speaker 4: ref's like no, And I got the Dominic. He just
- 1:14:58Speaker 4: loves it.
- 1:15:01Speaker 2: Yep, there's our guy, dirty dumb.
- 1:15:07Speaker 4: Yeah, and the crowd just loves them. That's all of
- 1:15:13Speaker 4: us right there. That's Maddie Edgar, Joe DeRosa, Polly Shore Me.
- 1:15:18Speaker 4: It was Deroza's first real wrestling event. You had the
- 1:15:20Speaker 4: time of his life, childlike wonder.
- 1:15:23Speaker 2: I love getting people in their lives for the first Yes.
- 1:15:25Speaker 1: There's something funny about a pro wrestler that's not built
- 1:15:28Speaker 1: too oh.
- 1:15:29Speaker 4: Oh yeah, and he's the champ and all these other guys,
- 1:15:33Speaker 4: that guy penty and he.
- 1:15:34Speaker 2: Just whipped my ass, dirty dump. He just whipped my
- 1:15:36Speaker 2: ass for real. I just lost the continental championship. This
- 1:15:39Speaker 2: a bitch.
- 1:15:41Speaker 4: Covered in gold. Yeah, probably what five to nine hundreds.
- 1:15:46Speaker 2: Oh, he's tall drinking water. He's tall than me, but
- 1:15:48Speaker 2: he's one hundred and seventy pounds soaked weg Yeah exactly.
- 1:15:50Speaker 1: It's such a uniquely American form of art.
- 1:15:54Speaker 4: Yeah, it really is.
- 1:15:56Speaker 2: It's weird because in pockets of the world, like it's uh,
- 1:16:00Speaker 2: Pan has their own style of doing it, Latin America
- 1:16:02Speaker 2: has their own style of doing it, the UK has
- 1:16:04Speaker 2: their own style of doing it. But this, yeah, like
- 1:16:08Speaker 2: the Japanese is very strong style with respect to martial art.
- 1:16:11Speaker 2: The English style is very like catches catch can a
- 1:16:14Speaker 2: real like technical expose. The Latin American style, the Mexican
- 1:16:18Speaker 2: style is high flying, the American offering of like steak, sizzle,
- 1:16:26Speaker 2: apple pie, ice cream, Fourth of July, everything like.
- 1:16:29Speaker 1: Huge and that's all Vince, right, A lot of it.
- 1:16:33Speaker 2: So is it all ever, one person? A lot of
- 1:16:36Speaker 2: it is a lot of it is. But like promotions
- 1:16:39Speaker 2: like World Class Championship Wrestling were some of the first
- 1:16:42Speaker 2: to use music, Vince was the first to be like
- 1:16:45Speaker 2: rock and roll, get over here and get on cable
- 1:16:47Speaker 2: and let's let's blow this thing out. I want to
- 1:16:49Speaker 2: do it. It's not just something we have in a
- 1:16:52Speaker 2: local VFW with cigar smoke and guys taking side action
- 1:16:56Speaker 2: on carnival tricks. No, this is a fucking thing. We
- 1:17:00Speaker 2: are gonna make this a fucking thing. Yeah, you know.
- 1:17:03Speaker 1: It's also a fucking thing where it's a lot of
- 1:17:06Speaker 1: it is not televised because you're just traveling around the
- 1:17:09Speaker 1: country doing these shows.
- 1:17:10Speaker 2: Yeah, so that the business model has kind of changed
- 1:17:13Speaker 2: where media content is king now. So from what I
- 1:17:19Speaker 2: understand from TKO, and I know their executives will correct me,
- 1:17:22Speaker 2: but from my perspective, we have scaled back on the
- 1:17:25Speaker 2: live event only offerings, which helps, you know, lick the wounds.
- 1:17:31Speaker 2: It's weird, it like you don't bump enough or you
- 1:17:34Speaker 2: don't bump as much, but you kind of need to
- 1:17:36Speaker 2: get in there and bump to get your callus and
- 1:17:37Speaker 2: to get your wind and timing. So it's it's kind
- 1:17:39Speaker 2: of you get your signals crossed. But anyhow, the content
- 1:17:43Speaker 2: that is provided is always available for media or ninety
- 1:17:47Speaker 2: nine percent, where it used to be the opposite. We
- 1:17:50Speaker 2: used to do like four live shows one TV taping,
- 1:17:53Speaker 2: so you'd have four live shows under your match, you know,
- 1:17:57Speaker 2: you do you do like live yet Little Rock Pensacola,
- 1:18:02Speaker 2: and then TV in Orlando, you know, and that would
- 1:18:05Speaker 2: be the end of the run, and then you'd do
- 1:18:07Speaker 2: it again of like bangor Portsmouth, Providence TV in Boston,
- 1:18:13Speaker 2: you know, like, and then you'd go for another week
- 1:18:15Speaker 2: and go somewhere else. But it's it's different now. It's
- 1:18:17Speaker 2: like every piece is televised for the media, which is
- 1:18:21Speaker 2: great because we get a lot out to our fans
- 1:18:22Speaker 2: across the world. But like I learned, I learned how
- 1:18:25Speaker 2: to fail in those non televised events.
- 1:18:27Speaker 1: Mmmm.
- 1:18:28Speaker 2: I could take big swings because it's like, man, if
- 1:18:30Speaker 2: I'm on the middle of a card in in Valparaiso
- 1:18:34Speaker 2: and I kind of fuck up in a gymnasium with
- 1:18:36Speaker 2: thirty five hundred people, they might they might tell me
- 1:18:40Speaker 2: the fuck off, but there's also the last match that's
- 1:18:42Speaker 2: gonna send him home happy. So let's try this new
- 1:18:44Speaker 2: weird thing. And that's where like me being invisible starts.
- 1:18:49Speaker 2: You know, it's just like, ah, fucking try it. Who cares?
- 1:18:51Speaker 2: Because it's it's an environment where you don't want to fail.
- 1:18:54Speaker 2: And now it's there's way more advantage on getting our
- 1:18:58Speaker 2: content out there. But production is super slick. It's like
- 1:19:02Speaker 2: really precise. Everyone's really good, and I don't know how
- 1:19:07Speaker 2: many people go out there, and just like like domb
- 1:19:09Speaker 2: like that was an example of swinging big, I'm gonna
- 1:19:12Speaker 2: fake ring the bell. Well people even get that. Who cares,
- 1:19:16Speaker 2: Let's try it? Like he's he's the only one of
- 1:19:19Speaker 2: those guys who will or very few of those guys
- 1:19:21Speaker 2: will stand on an idea like that, where the other
- 1:19:24Speaker 2: guys are like, no, I want to have a good
- 1:19:25Speaker 2: choreographed performance because I want my stuff to look good
- 1:19:28Speaker 2: because it's on television and going around the world. You know,
- 1:19:31Speaker 2: I loved the non televised events, but there's just there's
- 1:19:34Speaker 2: not there's not It's not a good business model.
- 1:19:37Speaker 1: So how does a young person coming up now learn
- 1:19:40Speaker 1: how to fail?
- 1:19:42Speaker 2: That is I think a conundrum that we're facing because
- 1:19:46Speaker 2: you're failing in front of the world, right, you know,
- 1:19:50Speaker 2: It's it's weird. You can have you can It's like
- 1:19:53Speaker 2: you work out your set, but you can't do it
- 1:19:55Speaker 2: on small clubs before you go to an arena. It's like
- 1:19:58Speaker 2: you would you would work out your set at home
- 1:20:00Speaker 2: and then you just play the into it though, or
- 1:20:03Speaker 2: you play Barclay Center, like you don't have a small
- 1:20:07Speaker 2: room to be like all right, I landed, oh man,
- 1:20:10Speaker 2: gonna rework that one? You don't ever have that. You
- 1:20:13Speaker 2: just have this, You put it together in your head,
- 1:20:15Speaker 2: you think it's okay, and then you're out there. So
- 1:20:18Speaker 2: I don't know. I'm not saying it can't work. I
- 1:20:21Speaker 2: think it can because analytics show that it does work,
- 1:20:24Speaker 2: and we have a lot of people watching now. But
- 1:20:27Speaker 2: from my perspective, I really enjoyed the care free nature
- 1:20:31Speaker 2: of just going out and being ready for anything and
- 1:20:35Speaker 2: it being okay if I fucked up and I failed.
- 1:20:39Speaker 2: If I told some bad jokes, I could come back
- 1:20:41Speaker 2: and be like that didn't work. That didn't work, And
- 1:20:43Speaker 2: then you have a partner to be like, oh and
- 1:20:45Speaker 2: this didn't work, but this slade, why don't you do
- 1:20:47Speaker 2: this again? Like literally, that's where this came from, just
- 1:20:51Speaker 2: fucking around at live events and oh my god, there's noise.
- 1:20:54Speaker 2: I'll do it tomorrow night. We're in a different town.
- 1:20:55Speaker 2: Let's see if they got how did you come up with?
- 1:20:57Speaker 1: That?
- 1:20:57Speaker 2: One was a dare. My brother did a happy fucking accident.
- 1:21:00Speaker 2: My brother dared me to do it. Like when we
- 1:21:03Speaker 2: when I was in the middle of the wrapping wormhole.
- 1:21:07Speaker 2: I made. I'm a platinum rapper. I made my own album.
- 1:21:10Speaker 2: So like in making yes, this is amazing, drinking in,
- 1:21:16Speaker 2: drinking in in making the album. We would bring home
- 1:21:21Speaker 2: all the tracks and like my little brother was our
- 1:21:23Speaker 2: test audience, and he would do this dance where he
- 1:21:26Speaker 2: would like shake his head and keep his hand in
- 1:21:27Speaker 2: front of him like that is man, look at you.
- 1:21:29Speaker 2: He's like, you won't do that on TV. And again
- 1:21:32Speaker 2: I was on the programs that no one was watching,
- 1:21:35Speaker 2: so it's like no one's watching anyway. Yeah, fuck you,
- 1:21:38Speaker 2: I will do it on TV, and I did it
- 1:21:41Speaker 2: on some meaningless Saturday show and there's a little bit
- 1:21:44Speaker 2: of noise. So I took it with me on the
- 1:21:46Speaker 2: road for the next week and did it on the
- 1:21:48Speaker 2: live events that want to televise. It's a little bit
- 1:21:49Speaker 2: of noise, Okay, Like this is my thing. Now, this
- 1:21:53Speaker 2: is my thing, and I just you can't see me
- 1:21:55Speaker 2: and likes now it's a thing. Yeah, yes, yeah, so
- 1:22:01Speaker 2: it's I did it on a dare. Wow. But like
- 1:22:04Speaker 2: I also had, I was in a place to be
- 1:22:06Speaker 2: able to tell my brother, Okay, I can waste two
- 1:22:09Speaker 2: seconds on an inside joke between you and I. That's
- 1:22:12Speaker 2: the dare. It's not going to ruin the match. But
- 1:22:15Speaker 2: if you're watching, if you're the only one person watching
- 1:22:17Speaker 2: Velocity that night, you'll be like, inside joke, got it
- 1:22:21Speaker 2: all right, let's like shouting out your gaming group, like
- 1:22:24Speaker 2: seven people get the joke. But this is one of
- 1:22:26Speaker 2: those things where it kind of fit and it's stuck. Wow.
- 1:22:29Speaker 1: It's just so many of those things in your life,
- 1:22:33Speaker 1: so many of those like fortuitous moments.
- 1:22:35Speaker 2: Well, you know, admittedly I have I have an optimism bias.
- 1:22:41Speaker 2: I will admit that, but life will will deal opportunity.
- 1:22:46Speaker 2: It's it's it's a matter of understanding that it's happening,
- 1:22:51Speaker 2: you know, don't get in your own way. Yeah, like
- 1:22:55Speaker 2: say yeah, come here, sit with you guys. This is
- 1:22:57Speaker 2: a new experience for me. Like, yeah, let's do it. Okay,
- 1:23:01Speaker 2: great man, first wrestler to ever retire. Yes, that's a
- 1:23:06Speaker 2: good idea. We're just gonna do it. Yeah, but you'll
- 1:23:08Speaker 2: never be able to come back. Yes, but let's just
- 1:23:10Speaker 2: do this thing like life is throwing me an opportunity
- 1:23:13Speaker 2: to create a year's worth of programming narrative that I
- 1:23:16Speaker 2: think will be interesting. The alternative is to do what
- 1:23:18Speaker 2: everybody else has done and maybe hang on too long
- 1:23:20Speaker 2: and people are like, man, you should have left a
- 1:23:21Speaker 2: few years ago. Now let's do this rap. Let's do this.
- 1:23:25Speaker 2: Do you want to train? It involves you working at
- 1:23:28Speaker 2: this shitty job where you're probably gonna I try to
- 1:23:30Speaker 2: be a cop and fail. That was gonna go down
- 1:23:32Speaker 2: and join the Marines. That's lifelong employment. I'm really good
- 1:23:35Speaker 2: with structure. I dig uniform, like I give me what
- 1:23:39Speaker 2: to do, and like a code of conduct to live by.
- 1:23:42Speaker 2: I have a feeling I would have fit in there. Great.
- 1:23:44Speaker 2: I love being in shape. They feed you over there,
- 1:23:46Speaker 2: like I think I would have done okay, but life
- 1:23:49Speaker 2: put an opportunity in front of me, and I was
- 1:23:51Speaker 2: stupid enough to say yes going out naked in the oscars.
- 1:23:54Speaker 2: I was just on Jimmy Kimmel last night. He's like, man,
- 1:23:57Speaker 2: you want to do this bit. I'm like, dude, I am,
- 1:24:00Speaker 2: I'm super tired. I'm I'm on a different coast. He's like,
- 1:24:02Speaker 2: let me send you the bit, and I read it
- 1:24:05Speaker 2: and I'm like, yo, fuck, all right, I'm gonna do it.
- 1:24:09Speaker 1: What'd you do?
- 1:24:10Speaker 2: I shuffled out there with an index card over my dick.
- 1:24:13Speaker 1: Oh that thing?
- 1:24:14Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, But like, man, in a room full of
- 1:24:19Speaker 2: not even peers or contemporaries, like the pantheon of the
- 1:24:23Speaker 2: professional goal that you try to read, I don't know
- 1:24:25Speaker 2: any of these fucking people. I don't belong in that room.
- 1:24:28Speaker 2: And he's like, yeah, man, just kind of walk out
- 1:24:29Speaker 2: their naked. It'll be a fun bit. And he's right,
- 1:24:31Speaker 2: it would be a funny bit. But I could have
- 1:24:32Speaker 2: got in my own way of like and now I
- 1:24:35Speaker 2: gotta fly. I'm exhausted. I'm gonna make a fool on myself.
- 1:24:39Speaker 2: I don't know any of these people. As my first impression,
- 1:24:41Speaker 2: I can I can sit on the couch like that's
- 1:24:43Speaker 2: the easy part. The tough part is, like life has
- 1:24:46Speaker 2: dealt you this opportunity fucking say yes fifteen minutes before
- 1:24:50Speaker 2: the show. When you get a good idea. The easy
- 1:24:53Speaker 2: thing to do is be like, do the show. The
- 1:24:55Speaker 2: hard thing to do is be like, Yo, let's let's
- 1:24:58Speaker 2: fucking swing. Let's go for it. Yeah. So it's not
- 1:25:01Speaker 2: like I think those moments happen to a lot of us,
- 1:25:04Speaker 2: and it doesn't have to be a lottery ticket. I granted,
- 1:25:08Speaker 2: holy hell, I've been given a lot of lottery tickets,
- 1:25:11Speaker 2: but it could be something as simple as like, Yo,
- 1:25:12Speaker 2: you're in a crummy mood, find a way to be kind,
- 1:25:16Speaker 2: Like life just gave you an opportunity. The person getting
- 1:25:19Speaker 2: your coffee is like, YO, have a nice day. You
- 1:25:21Speaker 2: could stay crummy, or you could be like, fuck, thank
- 1:25:23Speaker 2: you very much, appreciate that, appreciate your time, Like that's
- 1:25:27Speaker 2: an opportunity. You know, life is just a matter of
- 1:25:30Speaker 2: us reacting to what life.
- 1:25:31Speaker 1: Throws at pivotal decisions.
- 1:25:33Speaker 2: And it doesn't need to be a world changing decision.
- 1:25:36Speaker 2: I think now I don't want to say nowadays, I
- 1:25:39Speaker 2: think we always think that like the decision needs to
- 1:25:41Speaker 2: change the world. No, it's you just need to fucking
- 1:25:44Speaker 2: commit and do something. As a twelve year old, I
- 1:25:48Speaker 2: want to start working out, and I liked it, and
- 1:25:50Speaker 2: I just fucking keep working out, and now I can't
- 1:25:53Speaker 2: live without it. It's part of my life. It's a
- 1:25:55Speaker 2: fabric of my life. But in working out, I've learned
- 1:25:58Speaker 2: structure and accountability, essentially budget. If you take in too
- 1:26:04Speaker 2: much and you don't spend enough, you're gonna have some excess.
- 1:26:07Speaker 2: Like these lessons that opportunity can teach you if you
- 1:26:12Speaker 2: allow it. Me fucking up the thing I spoke about
- 1:26:15Speaker 2: at the beginning, like the easiest thing to do is
- 1:26:17Speaker 2: your fault. But if I take it as an opportunity
- 1:26:21Speaker 2: and be like, all right, you missed, what did we learn?
- 1:26:23Speaker 2: Where's the game? Yeah, you can move forward, and I
- 1:26:27Speaker 2: can move forward and wholeheartedly apologize to those I've heard
- 1:26:31Speaker 2: along the way, and they don't need to forgive me.
- 1:26:33Speaker 2: That's on their terms. I can't control that. But man,
- 1:26:36Speaker 2: the sleep is a little more sound at night knowing,
- 1:26:38Speaker 2: like in learning this lesson or having this opportunity. Fuck, dude,
- 1:26:43Speaker 2: I kind of trampled on your shit and I'm so sorry.
- 1:26:47Speaker 2: Like I had had such a shitty relationship with my
- 1:26:49Speaker 2: dad and just recently we've mended fences and he's eighty.
- 1:26:52Speaker 2: So I'm glad I've done this, because I mean, we
- 1:26:54Speaker 2: don't last forever. He's going, We're all going in the
- 1:26:56Speaker 2: dirt zoom, you know. But I just wanted him to
- 1:27:00Speaker 2: be something else. I always wanted that motherfucker to change.
- 1:27:03Speaker 2: I wanted him to be something else, and finally I
- 1:27:05Speaker 2: got out of my own way. The hard thing is
- 1:27:08Speaker 2: meeting that guy where he's at. The hard thing is
- 1:27:10Speaker 2: allowing him to be who he is. Take the weight
- 1:27:14Speaker 2: off my backpack and say, like, yo, I might have
- 1:27:16Speaker 2: needed you to be this in my life, but because
- 1:27:20Speaker 2: you weren't man, because of your absence in being the
- 1:27:24Speaker 2: dad that I had in my mind. I got all
- 1:27:26Speaker 2: these fucking cool male mentors who gave me a key
- 1:27:31Speaker 2: to the gym at fifteen and said you better fucking
- 1:27:33Speaker 2: be here in the morning. And like, dude, I still
- 1:27:35Speaker 2: can feel a key in my hand from Dave Knock,
- 1:27:38Speaker 2: the Dinas students of Christian Academy who bet on me
- 1:27:41Speaker 2: He was like, man, if you get your grades from
- 1:27:43Speaker 2: c's to a's and you play two varsity sports, this
- 1:27:47Speaker 2: place costs in ninety four this place costs thirty five
- 1:27:50Speaker 2: grand a year, we will give you aid and you
- 1:27:52Speaker 2: will have a place to learn. And that allowed me
- 1:27:54Speaker 2: to become an adult. That allowed me to the opportunity
- 1:27:57Speaker 2: of being in a diverse group of students. Who man,
- 1:28:01Speaker 2: there's like royalty that goes to that school, and then
- 1:28:03Speaker 2: there's fucking poor kids. My roommate was a basketball player
- 1:28:07Speaker 2: from Compton, and then we got kids with generational wealth
- 1:28:09Speaker 2: through their name and buildings after. But when it's just
- 1:28:12Speaker 2: like four hundred and fifty kids in a social experiment,
- 1:28:14Speaker 2: money goes away and you just kick it. So I
- 1:28:18Speaker 2: learned to be friends with everybody. But I wouldn't have
- 1:28:20Speaker 2: learned that in West Newbury, where it's ninety nine point
- 1:28:23Speaker 2: nine percent white, twelve hundred people in the small town,
- 1:28:25Speaker 2: no stoplights. You either leave or you never leave. Like
- 1:28:28Speaker 2: just little things like that, you know what I'm saying, Like, like, man,
- 1:28:32Speaker 2: I should do this, and deciding to meet my dad
- 1:28:35Speaker 2: where he's at. He'd be like, dude, whatever I thought
- 1:28:38Speaker 2: you were, you're not. You're just you, and I love
- 1:28:41Speaker 2: you for you, and man, well we sit there's some
- 1:28:44Speaker 2: shit that he'll say that's all fucked up, you know.
- 1:28:46Speaker 2: He said some shit yesterday that like, I don't think
- 1:28:48Speaker 2: John's last opponent should be there, and people listen to
- 1:28:51Speaker 2: him because he's a wrestling fan. He's like in the
- 1:28:53Speaker 2: kind of like they're weird subculture zeitgeist. And I want
- 1:28:56Speaker 2: to call my dad and be like, what the fuck
- 1:28:58Speaker 2: are you doing? But then like, no, he's doing what
- 1:29:02Speaker 2: he does. This is him. This is the dad I
- 1:29:04Speaker 2: This is the John C and I love. This is
- 1:29:06Speaker 2: the guy I can sit down with. And part of
- 1:29:09Speaker 2: that is being able to process all that. But the
- 1:29:13Speaker 2: opportunity I get from that, I've learned about my father's story.
- 1:29:17Speaker 2: I've learned about what he what he wants to do
- 1:29:19Speaker 2: with his life, why he does what he does, maybe
- 1:29:20Speaker 2: what he wanted to do, dreams he didn't have, so
- 1:29:22Speaker 2: I can gain wisdom from there. But it's just that's
- 1:29:26Speaker 2: the hard part is like getting out of your own
- 1:29:28Speaker 2: fucking way to do the thing you really want to do.
- 1:29:32Speaker 2: The easy thing to do is the holy grudge against
- 1:29:34Speaker 2: my dad. What I really wanted to do is tell
- 1:29:35Speaker 2: my dad I love him and sit down with him
- 1:29:36Speaker 2: and be like, Yo, let's fucking break bread, talk about
- 1:29:39Speaker 2: whatever you want. And now we do that and it's great.
- 1:29:42Speaker 2: But that's like, that's a small example of the easy
- 1:29:46Speaker 2: thing to do is sit on the couch and say
- 1:29:47Speaker 2: fuck it, something else's fault, right. The tough thing to
- 1:29:51Speaker 2: do is like life is handing me a moment right now,
- 1:29:53Speaker 2: and dude, I don't bat a thousand. I mean it's
- 1:29:56Speaker 2: more like Major League Baseball. I'm hoping three hundred gets
- 1:29:58Speaker 2: me in the Hall of Fame. Like, if I can
- 1:30:01Speaker 2: capitalize on thirty percent of the moments that life gives
- 1:30:03Speaker 2: me and squander the other seventy percent, I believe I
- 1:30:07Speaker 2: will go into the ground being like, man, I earned life.
- 1:30:10Speaker 1: If you can capitalize on thirty percent of the moments,
- 1:30:13Speaker 1: you are in the one percent of human beings that
- 1:30:16Speaker 1: have ever lived.
- 1:30:16Speaker 2: I earned life. Yeah, so I'm just trying to get that.
- 1:30:19Speaker 2: Make it to Cooper's down.
- 1:30:20Speaker 1: Yeah, that's the reality. And also the reality is if
- 1:30:23Speaker 1: someone doesn't give you what you need, it gives you
- 1:30:26Speaker 1: a desire to get what you need. So sometimes it's
- 1:30:30Speaker 1: a gift to not have like doting parents.
- 1:30:33Speaker 2: Yeah, oh my goodness. Like I said, I would never
- 1:30:36Speaker 2: have gotten those the beautiful guidance I got it in life.
- 1:30:40Speaker 2: I always had father figures because I was searching for
- 1:30:43Speaker 2: it and they found me. And I was also savvy
- 1:30:47Speaker 2: enough to be like, this guy needs to stick in
- 1:30:49Speaker 2: my life for a little bit. It sucks and he
- 1:30:52Speaker 2: fucking pushes me, but I gotta keep this guy around,
- 1:30:55Speaker 2: like just weird stuff like that. I hear a lot
- 1:30:57Speaker 2: of wrestlers a lot of times, what do you want
- 1:31:00Speaker 2: to do here? I want to be champion? Okay, the
- 1:31:03Speaker 2: math of that's really slim. I never wanted to be
- 1:31:06Speaker 2: a fucking champion. I just wanted to wrestle, and if
- 1:31:09Speaker 2: you're good, it'll take you places where one day you
- 1:31:11Speaker 2: can hold one of those. But if you start with
- 1:31:14Speaker 2: the goal of I want to hold one of those, man,
- 1:31:16Speaker 2: am I pigeonholing my goal? What the fuck do you
- 1:31:19Speaker 2: really want to do? I just wanted to wrestle, and
- 1:31:21Speaker 2: if I got fired by WW, I would have tried
- 1:31:23Speaker 2: to go to Japan, I would have tried to go
- 1:31:24Speaker 2: to Mexico, would to try to go to the UK?
- 1:31:26Speaker 2: Fuck it, because I just wanted to do it. But
- 1:31:29Speaker 2: that also meant I would put my best foot forward
- 1:31:31Speaker 2: and I wasn't shackled to I need to be champion
- 1:31:35Speaker 2: or I'm not validated, I'm not successful. You know what
- 1:31:38Speaker 2: I'm saying. Just give me a chance to go out
- 1:31:40Speaker 2: there and get the noise and whatever else falls into place.
- 1:31:43Speaker 2: Fuck it cool because what I want to do is
- 1:31:45Speaker 2: just go out there and be in the arena.
- 1:31:47Speaker 1: It's funny because they talk about the noise the way
- 1:31:49Speaker 1: we talk about the laughs. Yeah, it's the same thing.
- 1:31:52Speaker 2: It's the same thing. Yeah, you know, And I don't
- 1:31:56Speaker 2: need to be the most decorated person. But it's weird
- 1:32:00Speaker 2: because in not even trying, I have a resume that
- 1:32:03Speaker 2: people will now measure up against, like, well, that's you
- 1:32:05Speaker 2: got to win x amount to pass the hurdle. So
- 1:32:09Speaker 2: it's weird like I didn't I didn't even try to
- 1:32:11Speaker 2: do any of that. All I tried to do is like,
- 1:32:12Speaker 2: you'll just get me out there, and when you look
- 1:32:15Speaker 2: at what I've done and you've followed a bit, like,
- 1:32:19Speaker 2: it was weird. I was in the main event of
- 1:32:21Speaker 2: WrestleMania this year and to talk to people, they were like,
- 1:32:24Speaker 2: oh man, that's crazy. The last main event of WrestleMania,
- 1:32:27Speaker 2: I was in was twenty twelve, so you'd think that, like, oh,
- 1:32:32Speaker 2: John Cena, this guy's everything handed to him. He's always
- 1:32:34Speaker 2: at the top. That was my first main event WrestleMania
- 1:32:38Speaker 2: appearance as an attraction in like thirteen years. And in
- 1:32:42Speaker 2: that span, I worked new wrestlers, I worked for lower
- 1:32:46Speaker 2: level titles. I sat ringside and crushed three beers and
- 1:32:50Speaker 2: then got fucking squashed by the Undertaker as a fan. Yeah,
- 1:32:54Speaker 2: like I did all sorts of shit, you know, But
- 1:32:57Speaker 2: because it was never about like I'm not a success
- 1:33:00Speaker 2: and less I'm in the main event of WrestleMania. No,
- 1:33:03Speaker 2: that's just a position with a ton of stress. Just
- 1:33:05Speaker 2: fucking get me out on the course. Just get me
- 1:33:07Speaker 2: in the arena, have me in section one shaking hands
- 1:33:12Speaker 2: with people from Australia, and I'll make it the best
- 1:33:13Speaker 2: fucking time they ever had. It doesn't matter, Like, just
- 1:33:16Speaker 2: get me out there. What I don't want to do
- 1:33:18Speaker 2: is sit on the bench, right, you know?
- 1:33:21Speaker 1: So how did you go from that into acting? Like
- 1:33:24Speaker 1: what was your.
- 1:33:25Speaker 2: First So originally it was a business choice. Vince open
- 1:33:30Speaker 2: WWE studios and with the idea of if we make
- 1:33:33Speaker 2: these guys movie stars, more people come to the arena. Now,
- 1:33:36Speaker 2: as a young twenty something on the road, people chant
- 1:33:39Speaker 2: your name every night. I'm like more people in arena
- 1:33:41Speaker 2: and that sounds fucking great. And his first movie was
- 1:33:44Speaker 2: supposed to be with Steve Austin and it fell through.
- 1:33:48Speaker 2: They were about to shoot in two weeks, so movie
- 1:33:51Speaker 2: pre production is way longer than that. But he was like,
- 1:33:53Speaker 2: you're going to Australia to film this movie, The Marine,
- 1:33:57Speaker 2: and it it was tough. It was tough. I went
- 1:33:59Speaker 2: from arrive in a town at noon, work out, get
- 1:34:04Speaker 2: a good meal in crush the show, have some beers
- 1:34:07Speaker 2: on the rides to the next town, fall asleep, do
- 1:34:10Speaker 2: it all again, and it's like this whirlwind of electricity
- 1:34:12Speaker 2: to Okay, you're in hair and makeup at six o'clock.
- 1:34:15Speaker 2: We're doing an explosion today, so the lights are gonna
- 1:34:18Speaker 2: be weird and we probably will get to around five
- 1:34:21Speaker 2: thirty pm. You just said it's six in the morning. Yeah,
- 1:34:26Speaker 2: so what the fuck you want me to do from
- 1:34:27Speaker 2: here until five thirty? Just hang out? And I couldn't like,
- 1:34:32Speaker 2: as a young twenty something, I wanted to be in
- 1:34:34Speaker 2: the electricity. I couldn't handle them. The nature of the
- 1:34:38Speaker 2: business and Therefore, my passion wasn't in it. I wasn't
- 1:34:41Speaker 2: fully invested in it. I am. I am fucking here
- 1:34:44Speaker 2: with you guys right now we are talking about this.
- 1:34:46Speaker 2: My mind isn't elsewhere on other shit. I want this
- 1:34:50Speaker 2: to be what I want to give you all I got,
- 1:34:52Speaker 2: So I'm here with you. I was never there in
- 1:34:54Speaker 2: those movies. I was always back in fuck. Maybe if
- 1:34:57Speaker 2: I had the feud with this guy or if I
- 1:34:58Speaker 2: could have done this, I was never there. You could
- 1:35:00Speaker 2: see it in the performance. So I kind of got
- 1:35:02Speaker 2: run out of the movie business. I did so many
- 1:35:04Speaker 2: shitty movies in like two thousand and nine ten. My
- 1:35:07Speaker 2: best friend agent Dan Bam at the time, I was like, man,
- 1:35:11Speaker 2: we're never doing movies again, right, and you know, as
- 1:35:14Speaker 2: an Asian's supposed to be the guy to pick you up.
- 1:35:15Speaker 2: He looks and be dead. He goes, Nope, we will
- 1:35:17Speaker 2: find another way. Though he was honest, we are never
- 1:35:20Speaker 2: doing We are run out of town, but we'll find
- 1:35:22Speaker 2: another way. So we did. We did, hosted some live shows,
- 1:35:28Speaker 2: hosted some game shows, did little appearances here and there,
- 1:35:31Speaker 2: and then Judd Apatow and Amy Schumer gave me a
- 1:35:34Speaker 2: chance on God Train Wrek, and it was a very
- 1:35:39Speaker 2: small part. But again like, just just get out in
- 1:35:43Speaker 2: the arena and do your best. And look, I was
- 1:35:45Speaker 2: in a fucking room with comics like funny people. I
- 1:35:50Speaker 2: don't belong there, but they they created an environment where
- 1:35:53Speaker 2: I wasn't judged. They only showed the good jokes they did.
- 1:35:57Speaker 2: They didn't show the fucking twenty takes or I tried
- 1:35:59Speaker 2: to tell jokes that's sucked. The only ones that made
- 1:36:01Speaker 2: the final cut were the ones that made people laugh.
- 1:36:03Speaker 2: So they provided an opportunity for failure. And at that point,
- 1:36:08Speaker 2: I've been playing the same character as the twenty fourteen fifteen.
- 1:36:11Speaker 2: I've been playing the same character on TV for fifteen
- 1:36:13Speaker 2: fucking years, and now I'm like, yo, I get to
- 1:36:16Speaker 2: do something different. I can do this for twelve hours.
- 1:36:19Speaker 2: You want me to sit, I'll go fucking read a book.
- 1:36:20Speaker 2: I don't care. I'm in. So I accepted the patient
- 1:36:24Speaker 2: process of movies. And then after that I got a
- 1:36:28Speaker 2: little bit of noise and train Wreck, and then Judd
- 1:36:30Speaker 2: sent word to Tina fe and Amy Poehler, who were
- 1:36:32Speaker 2: filming up the road in Long Island, be like, if
- 1:36:34Speaker 2: you got a spot, you should hire the kid and
- 1:36:37Speaker 2: they made me a drug dealer and their thing, and
- 1:36:39Speaker 2: then like things started to roll downhill. But it's very
- 1:36:44Speaker 2: very small parts at a time. And here I am.
- 1:36:46Speaker 2: That was twenty fifteen. Here I am a decade later,
- 1:36:49Speaker 2: and I'm still trying to advance to fluency. By no means,
- 1:36:53Speaker 2: am I like I'm the seventeen time champ of the
- 1:36:56Speaker 2: acting community. Those are the motherfuckers I was looking at
- 1:36:58Speaker 2: when I was naked. You know, I'm aspiring to try
- 1:37:02Speaker 2: to be that. But it's basically the pivot happened when
- 1:37:06Speaker 2: I was like, yo, if you just invest in this,
- 1:37:10Speaker 2: the hustle you and patience you put into wrestling, at
- 1:37:15Speaker 2: least you know you gave it your all. You know,
- 1:37:17Speaker 2: be coachable, be professional, be reliable, be interested, and and
- 1:37:22Speaker 2: see where the chips fly and fucking say yes. Well.
- 1:37:26Speaker 1: It's also you had the the objectivity, like the introspective
- 1:37:32Speaker 1: objectivity to look at your past performances and say, I
- 1:37:35Speaker 1: wasn't really in there.
- 1:37:36Speaker 2: I wasn't and I got right out of town. Yea,
- 1:37:38Speaker 2: I lost the job. So like here's here's that mulligan.
- 1:37:42Speaker 2: What fuck him? I'll I'll never work in this town again.
- 1:37:45Speaker 2: I will, all right, let's go, let's try what else
- 1:37:48Speaker 2: could go wrong? They've already fired me. M you know,
- 1:37:51Speaker 2: so again an environment and no one does it alone.
- 1:37:55Speaker 2: The people I was around, uh, Tina and Amy are
- 1:37:57Speaker 2: the same way, like, only show the funny shit, but
- 1:38:00Speaker 2: try whatever you want, like fail, it's okay. And just
- 1:38:03Speaker 2: because you're around people who do comedy for a living,
- 1:38:06Speaker 2: all we need is three seconds and we'll be patient
- 1:38:09Speaker 2: enough to give you what you need to give us
- 1:38:10Speaker 2: that three seconds.
- 1:38:11Speaker 1: Hmmm, you know, yeah, it's it's just such a fun story,
- 1:38:17Speaker 1: you know. And there's so there's only a few guys
- 1:38:20Speaker 1: that have managed to make that leap from WW. Obviously
- 1:38:23Speaker 1: the Rock is the big one, sure you know, I
- 1:38:25Speaker 1: mean he's the biggest one. You have to make that
- 1:38:27Speaker 1: leap and now become a giant movie star.
- 1:38:29Speaker 2: Well, I think it's a I think it's a leap
- 1:38:31Speaker 2: a lot of people can make. It's not from lack
- 1:38:35Speaker 2: of talent. We talk about like obstacles and like in
- 1:38:37Speaker 2: our own way, WWE is all consuming and you got
- 1:38:41Speaker 2: to remember, like I I was their biggest act. So
- 1:38:45Speaker 2: at two hundred and twenty shows a year for me
- 1:38:48Speaker 2: to be like I need six months off to film
- 1:38:50Speaker 2: this action movie that really fucks at the bottom line,
- 1:38:54Speaker 2: like oh yeah, some the answer is no, right, you know.
- 1:38:58Speaker 2: And and now with less live events, it's still you.
- 1:39:02Speaker 2: You want to be on television, It's like, Okay, I
- 1:39:04Speaker 2: need to somehow leverage my relevance with this to what
- 1:39:09Speaker 2: it's going to do to film that in WWE, if
- 1:39:11Speaker 2: you're not I'm I'm gonna retire on the thirteenth, they
- 1:39:15Speaker 2: will be moved on by the Royal Rumble. And that's
- 1:39:18Speaker 2: that is real facts. I will be forgotten. That is
- 1:39:21Speaker 2: not a pleat a sympathy of like always remember me
- 1:39:24Speaker 2: by the Royal Rumble and the Roads Wrestleman and nobody
- 1:39:26Speaker 2: gives a fuck because they're focusing on what the show is.
- 1:39:30Speaker 2: That's like three weeks after I retire, three weeks after
- 1:39:34Speaker 2: I retire, and Alway's gonna give a fuck. And that's
- 1:39:37Speaker 2: not I'm not saying like what I did is meaningless.
- 1:39:39Speaker 2: I've lived the moments. They're great. People move on. So
- 1:39:43Speaker 2: when if I'm a talent who's on TV and finally
- 1:39:46Speaker 2: got one of those spots and edged my way in,
- 1:39:49Speaker 2: do I is this the right time to leverage taking
- 1:39:52Speaker 2: myself off a TV to do four months on something
- 1:39:56Speaker 2: that isn't gonna come out for another eighteen months, and
- 1:39:58Speaker 2: then I gotta go back to TV, hoping people still
- 1:40:01Speaker 2: care that my ring work is still polished, that I
- 1:40:04Speaker 2: still have my finger on the pulse like it is.
- 1:40:07Speaker 2: We can get in our own way sometimes, you know
- 1:40:09Speaker 2: what I'm saying.
- 1:40:10Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:40:10Speaker 2: So I was just at the point in fifteen sixteen
- 1:40:14Speaker 2: seventeen where I was like, man, my body's kind of
- 1:40:18Speaker 2: banged up. I'm a little older. I would like to
- 1:40:21Speaker 2: take some time off. And how I talked about like
- 1:40:24Speaker 2: every five years you needed somebody in the ondeck circle.
- 1:40:27Speaker 2: So I'm I'm running at the front for like fifteen
- 1:40:29Speaker 2: they needed someone in the on deck circle, and then
- 1:40:32Speaker 2: they finally got some folks. So they're like, yo, we
- 1:40:35Speaker 2: got we got folks. Yeah, go do the thing. It's fine,
- 1:40:38Speaker 2: go do it. So my passion for it was ignited
- 1:40:41Speaker 2: at the perfect time when when the office side of
- 1:40:44Speaker 2: it was like, that won't affect our bottom line too much.
- 1:40:47Speaker 2: Go give this thing a try it again. Just happy accident, man,
- 1:40:53Speaker 2: and I'm grateful for it.
- 1:40:54Speaker 1: So now you're in the situation you're gonna retire, yep.
- 1:40:58Speaker 1: And then I'm going to go all in on acting now.
- 1:41:02Speaker 2: So that's again beyond my control. If I could, if I.
- 1:41:07Speaker 1: Got the goal, though, is that what you would like?
- 1:41:10Speaker 2: The goal is to live useful, That's it. The goal
- 1:41:14Speaker 2: is to live useful and not lack like a depth
- 1:41:17Speaker 2: of purpose in my life. You know, I can't control
- 1:41:20Speaker 2: if the phone rings and they say if you want
- 1:41:21Speaker 2: the kid in the picture, that's way beyond me. What
- 1:41:24Speaker 2: I can do is when someone bets on me, do
- 1:41:27Speaker 2: my fucking damness for every dollar, I want to give
- 1:41:29Speaker 2: him ten back. I want to show them that. I
- 1:41:31Speaker 2: want to show you your time was well spent today.
- 1:41:33Speaker 2: I want to give you my heart and soul. And
- 1:41:35Speaker 2: when I leave here, you may be like, h not
- 1:41:37Speaker 2: my cup of tea, but the fucking kids, all right?
- 1:41:39Speaker 2: You know, Like that's that's all I'm trying to do.
- 1:41:42Speaker 2: So if I can do that, maybe I get another
- 1:41:45Speaker 2: Maybe I get another match, maybe I get another phone call.
- 1:41:48Speaker 2: But I also realize my mortality in the retirement, like
- 1:41:52Speaker 2: it's over. But also there'll come a day where y'all
- 1:41:56Speaker 2: out there are like, ah, the kid's not not cool anymore.
- 1:41:59Speaker 2: I'm done on the next shiny thing. I'm grateful for
- 1:42:02Speaker 2: what I got and I know I don't control how
- 1:42:04Speaker 2: many times the phone rings. I just want to I
- 1:42:06Speaker 2: never want to phone it in, right, And when my
- 1:42:09Speaker 2: time is up, it's over with man. I like I'll
- 1:42:12Speaker 2: do the rest of whatever life is.
- 1:42:14Speaker 1: So you think about that, like what the rest of
- 1:42:16Speaker 1: life is? Do you have other interests?
- 1:42:18Speaker 2: Sure do? Sure do. Love messing around with music. I
- 1:42:22Speaker 2: never read as a kid, so I'm reading more than
- 1:42:24Speaker 2: I ever have. Love cars. I'd love to just drive
- 1:42:28Speaker 2: that like just being in a car and driving, not
- 1:42:31Speaker 2: track stuff, just like going on long drives. Love that
- 1:42:34Speaker 2: I see a bunch of sticks. I love an occasional
- 1:42:36Speaker 2: stick with some conversation. I love boy. Did I miss
- 1:42:40Speaker 2: out on loving connections in my life? So I'm like
- 1:42:44Speaker 2: I have them now and they're fucking so cool. So
- 1:42:46Speaker 2: if a day is just spent with friends, or a
- 1:42:50Speaker 2: week or like man with WW I've been around the
- 1:42:54Speaker 2: world like twelve times, I haven't seen shit. I've seen
- 1:42:57Speaker 2: the inside of arenas, a hotel, bar, in a fucking airport. Yeah,
- 1:43:02Speaker 2: I want to know what Tokyo is all about. I've
- 1:43:04Speaker 2: been there like twenty times. I'n't see shit, you know,
- 1:43:06Speaker 2: Like I and I don't know if I'll ever get
- 1:43:10Speaker 2: tired of that. I like, I always have a curious
- 1:43:13Speaker 2: nature on to what's next. I don't know what that'll be,
- 1:43:18Speaker 2: but I never want to wake up and be like, man,
- 1:43:21Speaker 2: life's taken forever. You know what I'm saying. I think
- 1:43:24Speaker 2: there's always something to do with the day, So I
- 1:43:27Speaker 2: don't know. Would I love to continue to tell stories
- 1:43:30Speaker 2: and get paid for it. Fuck, that's a great gig,
- 1:43:33Speaker 2: but it's also beyond my control. So instead of being like,
- 1:43:37Speaker 2: I'm going all in on acting and I want to
- 1:43:39Speaker 2: do this and one day I want to win an oscar,
- 1:43:41Speaker 2: And when I'm seeing that approach is bad, I'm just
- 1:43:43Speaker 2: saying my approach is like, man, when they do call,
- 1:43:46Speaker 2: be grateful, and don't be grateful in the easy times.
- 1:43:49Speaker 2: Be grateful when they ask you to work a sixteen
- 1:43:51Speaker 2: hour day, or be grateful on that press tour when
- 1:43:53Speaker 2: you have to read off the or when you get
- 1:43:55Speaker 2: to read off the prompter and you're doing eighty six
- 1:43:56Speaker 2: reads and the reads are so you can dress up
- 1:43:59Speaker 2: in the and all that other shit. Like that's that's
- 1:44:03Speaker 2: kind of more and where I'm at.
- 1:44:04Speaker 1: That's a great approach to life. How did you develop
- 1:44:07Speaker 1: this philosophy is.
- 1:44:08Speaker 2: This, dude, I'm not supposed to be here. Like I'm
- 1:44:12Speaker 2: from fucking West Newbury, Massachusetts. I'm not supposed to be here.
- 1:44:15Speaker 2: And that's another thing. There's not a day that doesn't
- 1:44:18Speaker 2: go by where I look at someone I love and
- 1:44:21Speaker 2: connect with them be like, man, what a life. I
- 1:44:24Speaker 2: understand how lucky I am, and I understand I have
- 1:44:27Speaker 2: been awarded more opportunity than one human being should get.
- 1:44:32Speaker 2: And it's it's from what I've tried to boil down
- 1:44:36Speaker 2: to it, the best way to honor that opportunity is
- 1:44:40Speaker 2: to do your best to try to live a good life.
- 1:44:43Speaker 2: And a good life is that's almost like pain. Everybody's
- 1:44:47Speaker 2: perspective of a good life is different. I've come up
- 1:44:50Speaker 2: with core values and I try to live by those.
- 1:44:53Speaker 2: Fuck I'm human, I ain't perfect. But like again, if
- 1:44:58Speaker 2: when I go into the dirt, I feel as if
- 1:45:00Speaker 2: I didn't waste it. And I don't mean grind like
- 1:45:02Speaker 2: Homeboy from Nvidia. That's a grind. And I think a
- 1:45:05Speaker 2: lot of him. There's fear there, but also a lot
- 1:45:08Speaker 2: of a lot of that effort he loves, and that's
- 1:45:12Speaker 2: what an ideal life to him is. About and if
- 1:45:14Speaker 2: he goes in the ground working seventy hours a week,
- 1:45:16Speaker 2: he'll go in with a smile on his face. You know.
- 1:45:19Speaker 2: I just want to go in when it's my time.
- 1:45:22Speaker 2: I want to know that I honored the luck I
- 1:45:26Speaker 2: was given by not fucking squandering it, by not wasting it.
- 1:45:30Speaker 2: And that doesn't mean grind to a monetary number. It
- 1:45:33Speaker 2: just means live a fulfilled life where the sleep is sound,
- 1:45:37Speaker 2: the love is real, and every day you're driven with
- 1:45:40Speaker 2: curiosity and purpose and I don't know what the fuck
- 1:45:42Speaker 2: that is and it could change. Man. I thought I
- 1:45:44Speaker 2: was born to be a WW superstar and then the
- 1:45:47Speaker 2: elbows start hurting a little bit and be like, ah, man,
- 1:45:49Speaker 2: I'm born to be a storyteller. And then you realize that, like,
- 1:45:53Speaker 2: I'm not in control of any of that shit. That's
- 1:45:55Speaker 2: his luck. That's somebody being like, no, I liked him
- 1:45:57Speaker 2: in this, put him in that, Yes, a problem.
- 1:46:01Speaker 1: I think a key factor you're talking about here is gratitude.
- 1:46:03Speaker 2: I was born to to honor the luck that I've
- 1:46:06Speaker 2: been given and just try to do my best to
- 1:46:08Speaker 2: live a full life Like that's it.
- 1:46:11Speaker 1: Yeah, And that having gratitude about the life that you
- 1:46:14Speaker 1: live and being happy. God, it's so hard but so important.
- 1:46:18Speaker 2: And it's tough when you use that word because it's
- 1:46:21Speaker 2: such a think outside the box. But nah, man, like
- 1:46:25Speaker 2: the real word real thanks. Yes, it's hard because you
- 1:46:32Speaker 2: have to be thankful for the suck, for the pain.
- 1:46:35Speaker 2: You have to be thankful for the lesson, for the journey.
- 1:46:37Speaker 2: Like and these are again, these are all like slangy
- 1:46:40Speaker 2: hashtaggy terms. I don't know what the fuck else to
- 1:46:43Speaker 2: call it, so I'm just calling it what it.
- 1:46:44Speaker 1: Is that they've been. They've been co opted by people
- 1:46:46Speaker 1: that just sort of bullshit and use those words. But
- 1:46:49Speaker 1: the reality of those words is strong. It's very powerful.
- 1:46:51Speaker 2: It's like grind. Grind is another hashtag word, you know,
- 1:46:55Speaker 2: but like there is there is some realism to it.
- 1:46:58Speaker 2: But that from what I figured it out thus far,
- 1:47:01Speaker 2: that's my path. And uh, when the facts change, so
- 1:47:05Speaker 2: does my opinion. So we could come back here in
- 1:47:07Speaker 2: a few years and I be on some other ship,
- 1:47:09Speaker 2: but right now that's kind of where I'm at.
- 1:47:11Speaker 1: Well, such a that the gratitude word has been really
- 1:47:14Speaker 1: co opted by goofy people unfortunately, but it doesn't mean
- 1:47:18Speaker 1: you shouldn't use it.
- 1:47:20Speaker 2: Yeah, the real word, and and if if the word
- 1:47:23Speaker 2: makes you feel weird.
- 1:47:24Speaker 1: Come up with your own word, right, thanks, yes, whatever,
- 1:47:27Speaker 1: having thanks.
- 1:47:28Speaker 2: Because I'm with you there, So some words make me
- 1:47:31Speaker 2: feel gross is about how overused they've been. But like
- 1:47:34Speaker 2: I can't straight away from that one.
- 1:47:36Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean we talk about gratitude all the time.
- 1:47:39Speaker 1: We're always like talking about how we're living the dream.
- 1:47:42Speaker 2: Yeah, like just being what are we doing? Just shooting
- 1:47:46Speaker 2: people paying attention?
- 1:47:47Speaker 1: I knowing a lot a lot of people.
- 1:47:51Speaker 2: If you're still with us, I can't believe this is great.
- 1:47:53Speaker 4: Yeah, I was thinking. I was talking to my buddy
- 1:47:56Speaker 4: the other day, Peter Shore, the owner of the comedy store,
- 1:47:59Speaker 4: and I was telling him about how just a few
- 1:48:02Speaker 4: weeks ago, because I'm now that I have a place
- 1:48:06Speaker 4: that I like, in a car that I like, and
- 1:48:07Speaker 4: a job and everything, everything's finally it appears how I
- 1:48:12Speaker 4: have always considered what the dream is that I was
- 1:48:18Speaker 4: saying to my buddy the other day, who I came
- 1:48:20Speaker 4: up with? Who I really started with? And I'm talking
- 1:48:21Speaker 4: about like fourteen sixteen hour days at the comedy store.
- 1:48:25Speaker 4: I'd answer the phone at eleven am because back then
- 1:48:27Speaker 4: they didn't even have a website Hello, you want to
- 1:48:30Speaker 4: you want tickets tonight, blah blah blah blah. Work all night,
- 1:48:33Speaker 4: put on the T shirt at eight pm, tear tickets
- 1:48:36Speaker 4: and check IDs until two thirty in the morning. So
- 1:48:40Speaker 4: I would hit. I would hit overtime by like Wednesday
- 1:48:43Speaker 4: or Thursday. But they couldn't pay overtime because the comedy
- 1:48:45Speaker 4: store in two thousand and seven was half to quarter
- 1:48:48Speaker 4: empty anyway, so they would cut my hours. And I
- 1:48:52Speaker 4: was paying four hundred dollars a month to sleep on
- 1:48:55Speaker 4: my buddy's couch in his living room and he had
- 1:48:57Speaker 4: a bedroom, and my other buddy, Maddie, had a bedroom.
- 1:49:00Speaker 4: But Sandy was like, you know, he was like the
- 1:49:04Speaker 4: apartment was registered in his name, and I mean terrible couch,
- 1:49:07Speaker 4: terrible setup. I'd have to go through one of their
- 1:49:10Speaker 4: bedrooms to go to the bathroom, so if you have
- 1:49:12Speaker 4: to pee in the middle of the night, you're kind
- 1:49:13Speaker 4: of tiptoeing through, you know, you don't want to make noise,
- 1:49:17Speaker 4: you don't know what you're gonna see whatever. And I
- 1:49:19Speaker 4: was talking to Matt a month or so ago, and
- 1:49:22Speaker 4: I go, I think I still owe Sandy a little
- 1:49:24Speaker 4: bit of rent money because I just simply didn't have
- 1:49:27Speaker 4: it back then. Isn't that crazy? He goes you do
- 1:49:30Speaker 4: I he mentioned it last time as we were talking
- 1:49:33Speaker 4: about how successful you are.
- 1:49:34Speaker 2: There's an accountant right there.
- 1:49:35Speaker 4: So I vemode him out of nowhere. I haven't even
- 1:49:38Speaker 4: we haven't even talked since pre pandemic. He's got a family.
- 1:49:41Speaker 4: I'm out here that I venmote him a thousand bucks
- 1:49:45Speaker 4: out of nowhere, and I go two thousand and seven
- 1:49:47Speaker 4: rent money as the uh as the the memo part
- 1:49:52Speaker 4: of it. And he hits me up saying thanks, and
- 1:49:55Speaker 4: we're communicating, and then I remembered that at one point
- 1:49:58Speaker 4: I couldn't even afford the four hundred dollars a month
- 1:50:03Speaker 4: for the couch. And there was another comedian that was
- 1:50:05Speaker 4: a door guy at the store that did have the
- 1:50:07Speaker 4: four hundred a month because he was getting help from
- 1:50:09Speaker 4: his parents. So I got downgraded to a bean bag
- 1:50:12Speaker 4: for like a month or two. I was sleeping, Oh,
- 1:50:15Speaker 4: just horrendous, exactly a sore back for two months, just
- 1:50:18Speaker 4: in pain all the time, but doing what I loved.
- 1:50:22Speaker 4: So much of what you're saying about enjoying the process,
- 1:50:24Speaker 4: enjoy what you're doing, because I really did back then,
- 1:50:28Speaker 4: and I think about that now more. I've been thinking
- 1:50:30Speaker 4: about that bean bag and that couch and that living
- 1:50:33Speaker 4: room more than ever the last few months. You know,
- 1:50:37Speaker 4: It's like that's talking about gratitude. It's like, those are
- 1:50:40Speaker 4: the things that that's who you are is enjoying that
- 1:50:44Speaker 4: process and making the best out of it.
- 1:50:47Speaker 2: And in my case of a similar story, and from
- 1:50:51Speaker 2: what I'm hearing from you, it's like you you wanted
- 1:50:53Speaker 2: to be there. You were not going to give up
- 1:50:54Speaker 2: the bean bag. Oh yeah, There's there's a lot of
- 1:50:57Speaker 2: folks out there who are put behind the eight ball,
- 1:50:59Speaker 2: and really they have to dig themselves out of a trench.
- 1:51:02Speaker 2: When I moved out to Venice and I was working
- 1:51:03Speaker 2: at Gold, I was sleeping the parking lot in my
- 1:51:05Speaker 2: ninety one Continental and everybody's like, oh man, you were homeless.
- 1:51:08Speaker 2: I'm like, no, no choice. It was my choice. Yeah,
- 1:51:11Speaker 2: I didn't want to leave. My old man had a
- 1:51:13Speaker 2: room for me. Nobody ever leaves West Newbury. My dad
- 1:51:15Speaker 2: was like, yo, come back. You got a roof over
- 1:51:17Speaker 2: your head, You get some fucked up job over here,
- 1:51:19Speaker 2: you don't have to pay rent. So I had choice.
- 1:51:22Speaker 2: I stayed in the car because I wanted to life
- 1:51:24Speaker 2: was great. I got to see like the bodybuilders of
- 1:51:27Speaker 2: the two thousands. I got to train at the gym
- 1:51:30Speaker 2: and shower at the gym, and the Rock came through.
- 1:51:32Speaker 2: There's like a old picture of me in the Rock
- 1:51:34Speaker 2: somewhere where my gold Gym Club store shirt and he's
- 1:51:37Speaker 2: fucking doing this one. And like I got to see
- 1:51:40Speaker 2: all these people and it was fucking cool. And I
- 1:51:43Speaker 2: wouldn't have left if they took the car away. And
- 1:51:46Speaker 2: I got to sleep in the parking lot like I
- 1:51:48Speaker 2: was by choice. You know, you slept on the beanback
- 1:51:50Speaker 2: because you wanted to be there.
- 1:51:51Speaker 4: And the fun fact, look at that.
- 1:51:53Speaker 2: That's that's that's just me in the background right there. No, no, no,
- 1:51:57Speaker 2: keep that hold on. I'm taking the phones off. I'm
- 1:51:59Speaker 2: going out. That's me right there. He had just taken
- 1:52:02Speaker 2: a photo with me. That's me. Wow, that's DJ.
- 1:52:07Speaker 1: Wow, that's crazy.
- 1:52:11Speaker 2: In nineteen ninety nine. Wow. Yeah, fucking Rock was white hot,
- 1:52:16Speaker 2: selling out every place, Probably's Staple Center, Anaheim coming in
- 1:52:19Speaker 2: and press some weights. Wow.
- 1:52:21Speaker 3: Wow.
- 1:52:22Speaker 1: Yeah, that's crazy.
- 1:52:24Speaker 2: Yeah what what that's so like that's where the perspective exists. Yeah,
- 1:52:29Speaker 2: because I shouldn't have even been in the fucking club
- 1:52:31Speaker 2: store selling candy bars. I should be, you know, in
- 1:52:35Speaker 2: West Newbury doing what everyone else does. Like that's the
- 1:52:38Speaker 2: that's the tail, you know, and I'm not, so I'm
- 1:52:43Speaker 2: grateful for it. Yeah.
- 1:52:44Speaker 1: Yeah, there's a lot of people out there on beanbags
- 1:52:46Speaker 1: right now listening to this.
- 1:52:47Speaker 2: You need to stay on the bean bag. Yeah, twenty
- 1:52:51Speaker 2: who knows, twenty four more hours something could happen.
- 1:52:54Speaker 1: Yeah, and the success would be so much sweeter, all
- 1:52:58Speaker 1: so much sweeter if you do it that way. I mean,
- 1:53:00Speaker 1: if you were a trust fund kid and you had
- 1:53:01Speaker 1: plenty of money, and your parents gave you one hundred
- 1:53:03Speaker 1: grand a year to go out and pursue your dreams,
- 1:53:05Speaker 1: and they paid for your apartment, and.
- 1:53:09Speaker 2: Man, you know, I don't want to fuck on anybody's flex.
- 1:53:11Speaker 2: You're right, But at the same time, if if you
- 1:53:15Speaker 2: understand that, right, if you understand I was put on
- 1:53:18Speaker 2: the board ahead of everybody else, I was born on
- 1:53:20Speaker 2: third base. Again, that shit's beyond your control.
- 1:53:24Speaker 1: Right, But I think you need some failure to understand that.
- 1:53:27Speaker 2: So if you're grateful for what you have, you will
- 1:53:31Speaker 2: swing and miss and be accountable.
- 1:53:34Speaker 1: Because you can't really control what you have.
- 1:53:36Speaker 2: You can't control where you start.
- 1:53:38Speaker 1: Right, You can't control your start, you control where you're going.
- 1:53:41Speaker 1: So for how you respond along the way.
- 1:53:44Speaker 2: Yeah, and the kind of person you are to somebody
- 1:53:48Speaker 2: who was born on third base, I think also will
- 1:53:51Speaker 2: dictate your perception from the from the eyes of others.
- 1:53:57Speaker 2: If you feel you are greater than fuck, we're all
- 1:53:59Speaker 2: human being's dog like, nobody greater than nobody. Right, you know,
- 1:54:03Speaker 2: everybody's out there struggling, and all of us, especially in
- 1:54:06Speaker 2: this area of the pale blue dot, we all believe
- 1:54:09Speaker 2: in capitalism. So so the fact that you were born
- 1:54:12Speaker 2: on third base means everybody's doing their job and the
- 1:54:14Speaker 2: whole system's working. Like you can't think you're when you
- 1:54:17Speaker 2: start getting the like I never use this word. I
- 1:54:20Speaker 2: feel bad even saying it. Deserve when you start getting
- 1:54:23Speaker 2: the deserve mentality of I deserve this? Fucking What the
- 1:54:26Speaker 2: fuck do you deserve? Man?
- 1:54:27Speaker 1: Yeah, that's crazy.
- 1:54:29Speaker 2: You know, have you earned this? Have you earned it?
- 1:54:32Speaker 2: And if you feel as if you haven't, what steps
- 1:54:33Speaker 2: steps are you going to take to earn it? If
- 1:54:36Speaker 2: you're born on third and you feel bad about it,
- 1:54:39Speaker 2: take some steps to feel good about it. I don't
- 1:54:41Speaker 2: know what that is. But if you're born on third
- 1:54:43Speaker 2: and you feel you deserve it, to me, that's fucking
- 1:54:46Speaker 2: sprinting through a minefield. Dog.
- 1:54:48Speaker 1: Yeah, that's not a good path.
- 1:54:50Speaker 2: And I don't I don't ever, I don't never want
- 1:54:52Speaker 2: to fuck with someone who turns like one hundred thousand
- 1:54:54Speaker 2: and ten million or a million into a billion. That's
- 1:54:57Speaker 2: good investing's I mean, that's the system. You learned how
- 1:55:02Speaker 2: to work the system. It's just in the process. If
- 1:55:05Speaker 2: you think, do you think you're better than yeah, murky
- 1:55:08Speaker 2: waters Man in my perspective.
- 1:55:11Speaker 1: Well, it's just a terrible perspective anyway.
- 1:55:13Speaker 2: Like you're just like because it's all right, it's all
- 1:55:16Speaker 2: kind of fugezy, like this just paper IOU's or whatever,
- 1:55:19Speaker 2: it's digital ones and zeros, Like, all right, if it
- 1:55:22Speaker 2: melts down, are you really better than anybody?
- 1:55:24Speaker 1: You know what? Well, a lot of times it's also
- 1:55:26Speaker 1: a defense mechanism. You know, you pretend that you deserve it,
- 1:55:30Speaker 1: you pretend you're better than other.
- 1:55:31Speaker 2: People because maybe you don't feel enough for it. Again,
- 1:55:33Speaker 2: everybody's walking through their own mile. But like I don't
- 1:55:36Speaker 2: feel validated or I want attention, or I don't know,
- 1:55:40Speaker 2: I don't know man, I don't know. M Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:55:44Speaker 4: It was crazy hanging out with Stephan McMahon and how
- 1:55:46Speaker 4: human she was and hilarious and human I was telling
- 1:55:50Speaker 4: her because I was telling her like, man, you know,
- 1:55:52Speaker 4: I always wanted to be a pro wrestler when I
- 1:55:55Speaker 4: was a kid. And then I realized I wasn't going
- 1:55:57Speaker 4: to be tall enough and I wasn't going to be
- 1:55:58Speaker 4: big enough. And then lately I've been meeting these guys
- 1:56:00Speaker 4: and they're not that huge, and when I tell them that,
- 1:56:02Speaker 4: they go, look at me. You know, Sammy's ain hilarious.
- 1:56:06Speaker 4: Guy literally told me that, He's like, you could have
- 1:56:08Speaker 4: done it. I'm like, I guess I could actually done it.
- 1:56:11Speaker 1: You could probably still do it.
- 1:56:13Speaker 4: And I was.
- 1:56:13Speaker 2: Telling step that.
- 1:56:14Speaker 4: She goes, you think you can do a little something
- 1:56:16Speaker 4: I got. I can hit a super kick on anybody
- 1:56:18Speaker 4: at any time, from any what's a superkick? It's Sean
- 1:56:22Speaker 4: Michael's finishing it. You would literally you would faint from
- 1:56:27Speaker 4: laughter because you actually not a fucking kick through a wall,
- 1:56:31Speaker 4: but it's a it's a it's a.
- 1:56:33Speaker 2: Kick, and and the goal is not to hit the.
- 1:56:35Speaker 4: Right exactly, come real close. And she's so cool. She
- 1:56:40Speaker 4: goes Oh, that'd be funny if next time, you know,
- 1:56:42Speaker 4: I'm with triple h you just super kick me out
- 1:56:44Speaker 4: of nowhere. I'll sell it. I'll fall down the whole
- 1:56:46Speaker 4: thing like step this is crazy.
- 1:56:50Speaker 2: There we go there, it's a perfect man. This is
- 1:56:54Speaker 2: your aunt.
- 1:56:54Speaker 1: Okay, So a guy flies through the air and you
- 1:56:56Speaker 1: kind of catch him.
- 1:56:57Speaker 2: That's just one example like that. That's a really good
- 1:57:00Speaker 2: example right here, but it could be from standing anywhere.
- 1:57:04Speaker 2: It's just pretty much that high that hike. You can
- 1:57:06Speaker 2: do that, I can do that.
- 1:57:08Speaker 1: I can be flexible like that.
- 1:57:09Speaker 4: I'm flexible, at least I think I am. I don't know.
- 1:57:12Speaker 2: We'll see.
- 1:57:13Speaker 4: I wasn't throwing I was throwing a rocket the tree
- 1:57:16Speaker 4: the other day for the first time in forever, and
- 1:57:18Speaker 4: I coming up about fifteen feet shorter. There what she
- 1:57:22Speaker 4: looks like?
- 1:57:24Speaker 1: Whoa, that looks real. Yeah, it's really hit.
- 1:57:28Speaker 2: It's on there.
- 1:57:29Speaker 4: Two of the best right there.
- 1:57:31Speaker 2: It's on there.
- 1:57:32Speaker 1: Yeah, you really got that kind of flexibility. Yep.
- 1:57:36Speaker 4: I just slap your leg at the same time, and
- 1:57:37Speaker 4: it makes everybody actually think that you did it. I
- 1:57:40Speaker 4: did it to somebody, you'd be like, dude, you just
- 1:57:42Speaker 4: fucking kicked them, because.
- 1:57:43Speaker 1: Slap the Stopeah yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, it's magic in
- 1:57:50Speaker 1: the business man, Yeah, is I want to see you
- 1:57:53Speaker 1: out there?
- 1:57:53Speaker 4: Hey, I wrestled with my pillow for like eight hours
- 1:57:57Speaker 4: a day as a kid. I would do the entrances.
- 1:58:00Speaker 4: I would record off of the cassette player. Remember how
- 1:58:02Speaker 4: you U.
- 1:58:03Speaker 2: Said, dude, I had a whole We had a whole
- 1:58:05Speaker 2: league in our basement. Yeah yeah, I didn't need the
- 1:58:07Speaker 2: pillows because I had four brothers. We had belts league
- 1:58:10Speaker 2: personas like yep, and in one persona I would get
- 1:58:13Speaker 2: my ass kicked all the time. And then there was
- 1:58:15Speaker 2: one persona that could not fucking lose, like we kept
- 1:58:17Speaker 2: standings and stuff. Yeah, yeah, it's I don't know, man,
- 1:58:22Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 1:58:23Speaker 4: As my brothers and sisters were all much older, but
- 1:58:25Speaker 4: we had a music class teacher in my grade school
- 1:58:28Speaker 4: that didn't give a fuck about his job. He would
- 1:58:30Speaker 4: just sit in the corner and play piano the whole
- 1:58:32Speaker 4: time and let the kids do whatever we wanted. And
- 1:58:34Speaker 4: again we had entrance music. We were all different people
- 1:58:39Speaker 4: all the time. We'd run it back again the entire
- 1:58:41Speaker 4: forty five minutes, jumping off of desks, cabinets, chairs, It's
- 1:58:46Speaker 4: crazy how many injuries didn't happen. It's amazing how resilient
- 1:58:52Speaker 4: kids can be when we were that because.
- 1:58:54Speaker 2: The energy of youth just bulletproof. God.
- 1:58:57Speaker 4: Yeah, it doesn't make sense how arms and legs and
- 1:59:01Speaker 4: heads and necks weren't broken.
- 1:59:02Speaker 1: They also don't weigh that much back then.
- 1:59:04Speaker 2: Yeah, that's true, man, it's so full of energy. Man.
- 1:59:09Speaker 2: I can tell him getting old because I can be like,
- 1:59:11Speaker 2: is that chair okay, I'm gonna be sitting for a while.
- 1:59:14Speaker 2: Am I gonna be all right? Are gonna be good?
- 1:59:16Speaker 2: I'm like, ah, man, this bed's gonna kill me. It's
- 1:59:19Speaker 2: laying down like that. The bean bag, Oh my god.
- 1:59:21Speaker 2: Oh I'd spend four hours in that thing. You have
- 1:59:23Speaker 2: to cart me off.
- 1:59:24Speaker 1: I think i'd just sleep on the ground rather than
- 1:59:26Speaker 1: the bean bag.
- 1:59:26Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, yeah, back then it seemed like the better option.
- 1:59:31Speaker 2: It was the better option.
- 1:59:32Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:59:33Speaker 1: Probably. That's hilarious though. Yeah, if you've talked to them
- 1:59:37Speaker 1: about possibly doing something.
- 1:59:39Speaker 4: Uh, I mean no, not exactly. At one point there
- 1:59:45Speaker 4: was a little a little chatter.
- 1:59:47Speaker 1: But come on, dude, I think you can come up
- 1:59:49Speaker 1: with it.
- 1:59:50Speaker 4: Right around the corner. I have big shoes to fill
- 1:59:52Speaker 4: over here.
- 1:59:54Speaker 2: It's thirty entrance. We need we need bodies.
- 1:59:56Speaker 4: Yeah. I Show Speed did a good.
- 1:59:59Speaker 2: Job at that man, and he got drilled out of
- 2:00:01Speaker 2: his boots.
- 2:00:03Speaker 4: He took the Streamer, famous stream the internet guy. He
- 2:00:07Speaker 4: took what's called a bump from hell.
- 2:00:11Speaker 1: Uh.
- 2:00:12Speaker 4: He got speared at the Was that the rumble?
- 2:00:14Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah he was.
- 2:00:17Speaker 1: He does some wild ship he does. He got in
- 2:00:19Speaker 1: the cage with Dan the Hangman Hooker.
- 2:00:22Speaker 2: Yeah, and he's he's like he's game for anything. Yeah.
- 2:00:25Speaker 2: He has like like a kinesthetic awareness, like he's obviously
- 2:00:30Speaker 2: an athlete and he's brave. Like look at this ship.
- 2:00:34Speaker 2: Watch his mother just leave screen say it.
- 2:00:37Speaker 1: Oh man, oh my god.
- 2:00:41Speaker 4: I can't fake that.
- 2:00:42Speaker 1: Oh my god.
- 2:00:43Speaker 2: But like you also have to. The reason that looks
- 2:00:46Speaker 2: so good, a lot of that is because of Braun,
- 2:00:48Speaker 2: but also a lot of that is because of I
- 2:00:50Speaker 2: Show Speed. He committed to the fall and really tried
- 2:00:53Speaker 2: to fall with snap and with quickness. Like he's he's
- 2:00:57Speaker 2: good man, He really is good. And like you said,
- 2:01:00Speaker 2: like I've seen a lot of the other stuff he does.
- 2:01:02Speaker 2: He does well, they get in there and mess around,
- 2:01:04Speaker 2: you know.
- 2:01:04Speaker 1: Yeah, Well he really sparred with Dan Hooker. And Dan
- 2:01:07Speaker 1: beat the shit out of him, but he hung in there.
- 2:01:09Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 2:01:09Speaker 1: Yeah, it's just crazy enough to try.
- 2:01:12Speaker 2: You know.
- 2:01:12Speaker 1: It's also interesting these YouTube guys, they're just becoming famous
- 2:01:17Speaker 1: and there was no avenue for them before that. They
- 2:01:20Speaker 1: would have had to have been cast in a TV
- 2:01:22Speaker 1: show or it become something with limited spots. Yeah, and
- 2:01:25Speaker 1: now they're doing it completely on their own and becoming huge.
- 2:01:28Speaker 1: I mean, he's guy like fifty million Instagram followers or
- 2:01:31Speaker 1: something crazy.
- 2:01:31Speaker 2: Yeah, and a bunch of content and a bunch of
- 2:01:34Speaker 2: revenue to match that, and like.
- 2:01:36Speaker 1: And always working, always doing something puts himself out though.
- 2:01:40Speaker 2: Those guys hustle. Yeah, until all the content creators out there,
- 2:01:45Speaker 2: people don't understand the hours that they're They may end
- 2:01:50Speaker 2: up getting some financial reward, but when you break it
- 2:01:52Speaker 2: down to hourly wage, they're working twenty four hours a day,
- 2:01:56Speaker 2: seven days a week. Like they don't stop because it's
- 2:02:00Speaker 2: a lot of the content they make will have short
- 2:02:02Speaker 2: shelf life. It's they're not they're not essentially putting gone
- 2:02:05Speaker 2: with the wind out in the universe like it's you got.
- 2:02:07Speaker 2: You're only as good as your next one, not your
- 2:02:10Speaker 2: last one or the one you did it's like you're
- 2:02:11Speaker 2: only as good as what you're doing five minutes from now.
- 2:02:14Speaker 1: And if you drop off the map, someone will replace you.
- 2:02:16Speaker 2: Like, oh my god.
- 2:02:17Speaker 1: Yeah, there's so many fucking streamers. There's so many people
- 2:02:19Speaker 1: that are doing content.
- 2:02:20Speaker 2: They work hard, they do they work hard. And even
- 2:02:23Speaker 2: even the ones where it seems like man to a
- 2:02:28Speaker 2: perspective of like I don't understand this, it's still the
- 2:02:30Speaker 2: effort that goes into that. And it's not just what
- 2:02:32Speaker 2: you saw. It's like, Okay, you got to have a
- 2:02:33Speaker 2: repeat performance, and then you got to keep coming and
- 2:02:36Speaker 2: keep coming and keep coming, like I do a movie,
- 2:02:39Speaker 2: and like I said, it's out in eighteen months. In
- 2:02:41Speaker 2: eighteen months, they've already put out ten thousand videos, right,
- 2:02:45Speaker 2: Like it's it's bananas.
- 2:02:47Speaker 1: It is interesting that nobody saw that coming too. Nobody
- 2:02:50Speaker 1: ever thought that was going to be a thing.
- 2:02:51Speaker 2: I just think it's because we get so used to stuff, hm,
- 2:02:54Speaker 2: we get so used to consuming in a certain way.
- 2:02:58Speaker 2: When something is new for us, it's like, oh man,
- 2:03:01Speaker 2: I don't know if that's going to take off. But
- 2:03:02Speaker 2: there are young people who are experiencing everything at the
- 2:03:05Speaker 2: same time and like, no, this is cooler. It's way
- 2:03:08Speaker 2: easier to do this.
- 2:03:09Speaker 1: Also, he's really young, and when you start young, there's
- 2:03:12Speaker 1: not a lot of expectations on you. No, you can
- 2:03:15Speaker 1: kind of just do whatever you want and if it works, great.
- 2:03:18Speaker 2: Young courageous, yeah, like good to go for it. Yeah yeah.
- 2:03:23Speaker 1: And it's also a great example for other people that
- 2:03:26Speaker 1: are thinking, like I'm kind of entertaining, I just don't
- 2:03:28Speaker 1: have an avenue. Let me just start making videos.
- 2:03:31Speaker 2: You got a phone, Yeah, you got a chance.
- 2:03:33Speaker 1: Isn't that crazy? That's all you have to do is
- 2:03:35Speaker 1: have a phone.
- 2:03:36Speaker 2: It's nuts.
- 2:03:37Speaker 1: You see the videos where he was sprinting with Ashton Forbes.
- 2:03:41Speaker 1: You know that super jacked guy that does that morning
- 2:03:44Speaker 1: routine that everybody made fun of because he has this
- 2:03:46Speaker 1: like morning routine where he dunks his face and water
- 2:03:49Speaker 1: and then someone hands him his gold watch and he
- 2:03:52Speaker 1: puts it on. It's like really kind of silly. Yeah huh,
- 2:03:54Speaker 1: you know, And he had a whole series of racism
- 2:03:57Speaker 1: with him because he couldn't believe that this YouTuber guy
- 2:04:00Speaker 1: beat him because he's like this fucking super jacked, ripped
- 2:04:04Speaker 1: guy who a lot of his online content is him
- 2:04:06Speaker 1: running and he just looks like a force of nature
- 2:04:09Speaker 1: and I show speed beat him like three times in
- 2:04:12Speaker 1: these races, but he didn't want to believe that he lost,
- 2:04:15Speaker 1: so he wanted to do it again. Let's do it again,
- 2:04:17Speaker 1: Let's do it again, and I show speeds talking shit
- 2:04:19Speaker 1: to him. He did it again. See you can find it. It's
- 2:04:23Speaker 1: very funny. It's very funny because when you look at
- 2:04:25Speaker 1: the guy like, oh, this guy looks like he could
- 2:04:27Speaker 1: run like a horse, and I show speed, he's actually
- 2:04:30Speaker 1: faster than him.
- 2:04:32Speaker 6: I think he he sprinted an actual Olympic sprinter. I
- 2:04:36Speaker 6: mean he started fucking around a little bit, but he
- 2:04:37Speaker 6: held his own.
- 2:04:39Speaker 1: That's crazy. Yeah, that's crazy. He was like right there
- 2:04:42Speaker 1: with an Olympic sprinter. That's nuts.
- 2:04:44Speaker 2: He won the goal with the guy that he raised.
- 2:04:46Speaker 1: Really, that's he's like right next to him. That's crazy, Like,
- 2:04:51Speaker 1: and he's not even fucking training like that guy is.
- 2:04:54Speaker 1: Imagine if he was like that fucking guy, if he
- 2:04:58Speaker 1: wanted to like fully invent himself into sprinting, he's only
- 2:05:03Speaker 1: what that's why.
- 2:05:06Speaker 2: Wow.
- 2:05:06Speaker 1: Really imagine if that kid fully invested in that and
- 2:05:10Speaker 1: then became an Olympic gold medalist as well.
- 2:05:13Speaker 2: So that's that's where that's where my mind goes as well.
- 2:05:17Speaker 1: It seems like you can.
- 2:05:19Speaker 2: But also why why not?
- 2:05:22Speaker 1: Because it'll make his streams even bigger?
- 2:05:24Speaker 2: Will it?
- 2:05:25Speaker 1: I don't know?
- 2:05:26Speaker 2: I mean or will sprinting against the gold medalist, getting
- 2:05:29Speaker 2: in the cage with a fighter, getting in the ring
- 2:05:31Speaker 2: with a champion, going to that guy's house and besting
- 2:05:35Speaker 2: him in his own thing, Like he should keep doing that.
- 2:05:39Speaker 1: He shouldn't.
- 2:05:40Speaker 2: He shouldn't go into one hit the lane he's in.
- 2:05:43Speaker 2: I think he's doing pretty well, right.
- 2:05:45Speaker 1: It's almost better losing to the fastest man alive by
- 2:05:48Speaker 1: that much.
- 2:05:48Speaker 2: Or like, so I can tell by watching that you like,
- 2:05:51Speaker 2: I love potential, and you see that, you're like, oh
- 2:05:54Speaker 2: my god, potential. This guy could he could win it all.
- 2:05:57Speaker 1: Find a video with him sprinting again, that Ashton guy, because.
- 2:06:01Speaker 2: It's what this guy's got the world by the nuts.
- 2:06:06Speaker 2: He should he should do what he's doing exactly what
- 2:06:08Speaker 2: I do.
- 2:06:09Speaker 4: I know him from that appearance at the Royal Rumble,
- 2:06:12Speaker 4: Like he got booked on the Rumble because he has
- 2:06:14Speaker 4: a big following. I'm watching the Rumble, I go, who's
- 2:06:17Speaker 4: this ice show speed guy? And I go, Wow, that
- 2:06:19Speaker 4: kid took a hell of a bumps.
- 2:06:21Speaker 1: Now I know him, this Ashton Forbes guy. Now look
- 2:06:24Speaker 1: at the way this guy's built home. He's talking man
- 2:06:31Speaker 1: and he fell. He's yelling that right.
- 2:06:35Speaker 2: The number of views in the corner forty million, unbelievable. Wow,
- 2:06:41Speaker 2: oh man, look at that. Wow.
- 2:06:47Speaker 1: Yeah, there raced a bunch of times. And the other
- 2:06:51Speaker 1: guy didn't. That other guy he played football right in
- 2:06:55Speaker 1: the NFL.
- 2:06:56Speaker 6: But I think, like college footballer.
- 2:06:57Speaker 1: Look at this fucking size of him too. The other
- 2:06:59Speaker 1: guys fucking super jacked, Like that's his whole thing is
- 2:07:03Speaker 1: online content? Is him running being super jacked, and he
- 2:07:06Speaker 1: has to deal with I show speed talking ship to him,
- 2:07:10Speaker 1: and he's saying, like, play some of this. The first
- 2:07:12Speaker 1: one I slip, the second one, you barely beating me.
- 2:07:15Speaker 4: Let's run it again.
- 2:07:15Speaker 2: Who I gotta beat you three times? See when I
- 2:07:20Speaker 2: see that, right, he said.
- 2:07:28Speaker 1: It's hilarious. It's fucking so ship.
- 2:07:33Speaker 2: So I see this and be like, this kid should
- 2:07:34Speaker 2: be a wrestler, right because he is athletic and he
- 2:07:38Speaker 2: can talk ship and back it up. My god, this
- 2:07:41Speaker 2: kid would he would be a twenty time champion whatever. No,
- 2:07:44Speaker 2: he should do this Are.
- 2:07:45Speaker 1: They running barefoot on the fucking concrege. Oh really.
- 2:07:53Speaker 2: Bad decisions.
- 2:08:01Speaker 1: That was pretty close.
- 2:08:02Speaker 2: Yeah, but he started before him.
- 2:08:03Speaker 1: Yeah, started for me.
- 2:08:06Speaker 2: Still like he should he should be doing that. Yeah,
- 2:08:12Speaker 2: but like you see the sprinting potential, I see the
- 2:08:14Speaker 2: WW potential he should do neither.
- 2:08:16Speaker 1: He should just do that, right, and it's already just
- 2:08:19Speaker 1: I just probably want him to do it again.
- 2:08:22Speaker 2: Oh my, I think he did a thing. He just
- 2:08:24Speaker 2: went to like the performance center, yeah thing, and like, yeah,
- 2:08:27Speaker 2: he's really good, really good. He's got great instincts, he's
- 2:08:29Speaker 2: got great timing.
- 2:08:30Speaker 1: That's amazing. Yeah, and he's only twenty.
- 2:08:34Speaker 6: I mean there's now like this is like full multi camera,
- 2:08:38Speaker 6: really good shooting. Then he's speed versus pros I think
- 2:08:42Speaker 6: because he's kind of doing that idea.
- 2:08:43Speaker 2: Just yeah, like where he goes, he goes to people's uh.
- 2:08:47Speaker 1: Look at forty six point two million subscribers on YouTube.
- 2:08:50Speaker 1: That's wild.
- 2:08:51Speaker 2: Yeah, So I think I think, like he should just
- 2:08:53Speaker 2: do that. You know, whatever he's.
- 2:08:56Speaker 1: Doing, I mean, he's obviously doing it. Does he have
- 2:08:58Speaker 1: a team behind him? That's now sure probably all of
- 2:09:03Speaker 1: you that he's learning how to do flips? Oh that's crazy.
- 2:09:07Speaker 1: So he's really in it.
- 2:09:08Speaker 2: Yeah, And I think it's just like show up for
- 2:09:10Speaker 2: a few days and then go on to the next discipline. Wow,
- 2:09:13Speaker 2: So he does everything.
- 2:09:16Speaker 1: Smart, very smart.
- 2:09:18Speaker 6: He spent all summer going to a city every day.
- 2:09:21Speaker 6: Everything was livestream for like twenty four hours straight. They'd
- 2:09:23Speaker 6: go to a city, show up, what's the coolest thing
- 2:09:25Speaker 6: to do in the city, and do it? Do it?
- 2:09:28Speaker 1: Like, what kind of shit was he doing to go
- 2:09:30Speaker 1: to the fair?
- 2:09:30Speaker 6: Ride all ride, to try all the games. A bunch
- 2:09:33Speaker 6: of kids fall him around. Next day they were here
- 2:09:35Speaker 6: in Austin going to Terry Blacks. I think he went
- 2:09:38Speaker 6: and did stand up with Mark Norman like in New
- 2:09:40Speaker 6: York City.
- 2:09:41Speaker 2: That's it.
- 2:09:44Speaker 1: For a second, that's wild that he's so young too,
- 2:09:47Speaker 1: only twenty.
- 2:09:48Speaker 2: Yeah, that talented and just just brave and courageous and
- 2:09:52Speaker 2: going for it. Like that's regardless of what you and
- 2:09:54Speaker 2: I think she's doing exactly what he should be doing.
- 2:09:57Speaker 2: You know, you should just keep doing that.
- 2:09:58Speaker 1: And obviously not getting in his own way none at all.
- 2:10:01Speaker 1: All the things you're saying, like capitalizing on every operation.
- 2:10:04Speaker 2: Story yet to be told. Yeah, story, it's still got
- 2:10:07Speaker 2: it's still got a lot of life left.
- 2:10:08Speaker 1: Oh yeah, yeah, a lot of life left.
- 2:10:10Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, but we'll see he's doing He's doing great
- 2:10:13Speaker 2: so far.
- 2:10:13Speaker 1: Yeah, amazing. I think we wrap this up. This a
- 2:10:19Speaker 1: fucking awesome podcast. I really enjoyed it. Thank you very much.
- 2:10:22Speaker 2: It is It is real, a real big opportunity for
- 2:10:25Speaker 2: you to have me on here, because the ww folks
- 2:10:29Speaker 2: that you have had. I think I'm still I only
- 2:10:32Speaker 2: got one date left left, but I still think I'm
- 2:10:34Speaker 2: the active one. I hope this experience has been.
- 2:10:37Speaker 1: Good for you guys, amazing.
- 2:10:39Speaker 2: I hope you have more of the guys and gals

- 2:10:51Speaker 1: there that are really going to benefit from a lot
- 2:10:53Speaker 1: of the things you said. I think it's rock solid.
- 2:10:55Speaker 2: That means a lot coming from you. Thank you so much.
- 2:10:57Speaker 1: I appreciate it, Tony, You're the man.
