- 0:23Don Armstrong: It's over here on the fix that.
- 0:25Don Armstrong: And uh we'll we'll work on that and we'll we'll come up with a much better method next week.

- 0:48Don Armstrong: Are you making fun of my uh soft uh the the fabric softener?
- 0:54Jeff Dziekan: That's not fabric softener, I smell.
- 0:56Don Armstrong: We've got this week's recall list, and we got the ever-popular guess what the Hemings auction sold for this week.
- 1:03Don Armstrong: Plus, Jeff has the racing calendar, Mr.

- 1:11Don Armstrong: Howdy, along with Mike out of this Will Mars.
- 1:13Don Armstrong: There he is, raising his hand.
- 1:19Don Armstrong: We always need more Jeff Zeken.
- 1:21Don Armstrong: David Ainsley is vacationing in the upper peninsula of Michigan.
- 1:25Don Armstrong: Yeah.
- 1:26Don Armstrong: Uh in Cedar Falls.
- 1:28Don Armstrong: What cedar something?
- 1:30Don Armstrong: Um, but uh he's up there.
- 1:31Don Armstrong: We talked to him earlier today.
- 1:33Don Armstrong: He was grabbing his coffee in 60 degree weather right on the lake.
- 1:38Don Armstrong: Is it Lake Huron?
- 1:39Jeff Dziekan: Lake Superior.
- 1:40Don Armstrong: Lake Superior.
- 1:41Don Armstrong: Well, it's gorgeous up there.
- 1:43Don Armstrong: It is.
- 1:43Don Armstrong: Went up there a couple of years ago.
- 1:44Don Armstrong: It's just nice.
- 1:46Don Armstrong: All right.
- 1:47Don Armstrong: So, anyway, uh, thank you very much for joining us.
- 1:49Don Armstrong: My name is Don Armstrong, and uh in this segment of our show, we're going to do the recalls.
- 1:54Don Armstrong: Okay.
- 1:56Don Armstrong: Are you sitting down?
- 1:58Don Armstrong: You ready?
- 1:59Don Armstrong: Cadillac.
- 2:01unknown: What?
- 2:02Don Armstrong: No, that's that's the wrong one.
- 2:04Don Armstrong: Sorry, that's yeah, that's that's coming up.
- 2:09Don Armstrong: Were you are you were you distracted, Mars?
- 2:12Mike Marrs: Yeah, I was reading a message from the Lusk family and uh got distracted.
- 2:17Don Armstrong: Well, what did the Lusks have to say?
- 2:19Mike Marrs: Well, he's uh missing the show today because his pops was just diagnosed with stomach cancer and he's on the beach trying to uh deal with all that.
- 2:29Don Armstrong: So sorry to hear that.
- 2:31Mike Marrs: Yep, just got distracted a little bit.
- 2:33Don Armstrong: Yeah, I understand.
- 2:34Don Armstrong: All right, so here's what's uh going on as far as recalls are concerned.
- 2:38Don Armstrong: Cadillac Vistique 2026, 2027, third row power folding seat back may trap the occupant.
- 2:46Don Armstrong: Hey kids, you're not getting out.
- 2:49Don Armstrong: Got that?
- 2:49Don Armstrong: Well, it doesn't have to be kids, it could be like a mother-in-law or you know, name it.
- 2:55Don Armstrong: It's good.
- 2:56Don Armstrong: Hopefully, somebody that you really don't like at the moment.
- 2:59Don Armstrong: Uh, vehicle roll away risk, uh, Ford.
- 3:05Don Armstrong: Uh Expedition Explorer F 150, Lincoln Aviator, Lincoln Navigator, 2018 through 2021.
- 3:16Don Armstrong: So luckily here in Houston, we don't have too many hills and mountains.
- 3:21Don Armstrong: Um, and there's a way to park it.
- 3:24Don Armstrong: Well, we've got that, but hopefully you're not parking there.
- 3:27Don Armstrong: But uh at any rate, you know, you turn your wheels into the curb one way or the other.
- 3:33Don Armstrong: So if it's uh Ford Motor Company Bronco, another recall, 22 to 26.
- 3:42Don Armstrong: The fender flare may detach.
- 3:45Don Armstrong: Uh-oh.
- 3:46Don Armstrong: Martha, did something just fall off the car?
- 3:51Don Armstrong: Kia recalling Kia recalling more than 462,802 telluride SUVs over an issue with the motor for the front power seat that may cause a fire.
- 4:03Don Armstrong: Affected vehicles include certain model year 20 to 24 telluride SUVs, the motor for the front power seat may overheat due to a stuck power seat slide knob or an improper repair from a previous recall in June of 24.
- 4:19Jeff Dziekan: Wow.
- 4:20Don Armstrong: An overheated seat motor may cause a fire while the vehicle is parked or being driven.
- 4:26Don Armstrong: Is that my pants on fire?
- 4:29Don Armstrong: Or something else?
- 4:31Don Armstrong: Owners are advised to park outside and away from structures until the recall repair is completed.
- 4:38Jeff Dziekan: But don't park it near a car that's going to be rolling away because then it'll be big, big accents.
- 4:42Don Armstrong: And you may want to have some pants on when you do this.
- 4:45Don Armstrong: Um, dealers will install an electric electronic fuse assembly for free.
- 4:51Don Armstrong: Well, that'll fix it, won't it?
- 4:52unknown: Yeah.
- 4:52Don Armstrong: It'll pop the fuse as opposed to burn up the entire vehicle and maybe your house if it's in the garage.
- 4:58Don Armstrong: Uh owner notification letters are expected to be mailed August the 13th.
- 5:03Don Armstrong: But in the meantime, park it away from anything and everything.
- 5:07Don Armstrong: Do what you're supposed to do there.
- 5:09Don Armstrong: Nissan Centra 2025, incorrectly installed drive shaft.
- 5:16Jeff Dziekan: I wonder if it's reversed because there's a front and a back to it.
- 5:19Jeff Dziekan: Probably for balance, maybe.
- 5:21Don Armstrong: I don't know.
- 5:22Don Armstrong: A centra, that's a small one.
- 5:24Don Armstrong: I would imagine it's just a solid drive shaft.
- 5:27Don Armstrong: Missing pedestrian warning sound.
- 5:29Don Armstrong: Here, I can fix that.
- 5:31Don Armstrong: Meep, meep, meep.
- 5:33Don Armstrong: Ford, explorer hybrid, and Lincoln Nautilus Hybrid 24 to 27.
- 5:39Don Armstrong: Those are the recalls.
- 5:41Don Armstrong: Nautilus Hybrid.
- 5:41Don Armstrong: Okay, Mars, now you can do the uh the fun stuff.
- 5:44Don Armstrong: Okay, get your get your decoder rings out.
- 5:47Don Armstrong: It's time now for Hemings Sold Car Weekly Roundup.
- 5:52Jeff Dziekan: We need music for this.
- 5:54Don Armstrong: We do.
- 5:54Jeff Dziekan: You should have you got buttons down there you can play some stuff.
- 5:57Don Armstrong: I could, yeah.
- 5:57Don Armstrong: You want to download the music that it doesn't cost us any money, then be my guest.
- 6:01Jeff Dziekan: But you have functions that you can do.
- 6:03Don Armstrong: I do.
- 6:03Don Armstrong: Would you would you like to hear one then?
- 6:04Don Armstrong: Yeah, let's hear it.
- 6:08Don Armstrong: How about this one?
- 6:10Jeff Dziekan: There you go.
- 6:11Don Armstrong: The second one.
- 6:11Don Armstrong: Is that the one you're looking for?
- 6:12Jeff Dziekan: Wait a minute.
- 6:15Jeff Dziekan: No, the second when I come on, you just go play that one.
- 6:25Mike Marrs: Okay.
- 6:28Don Armstrong: Yeah, I was just gonna say that's the one that we're gonna play for the recall.
- 6:32Jeff Dziekan: Thank you.
- 6:33Jeff Dziekan: There you go.
- 6:33Don Armstrong: Okay, here we go.
- 6:34Don Armstrong: Don't forget to tip your waitress and try the veal.
- 6:36Don Armstrong: The veal?
- 6:37Jeff Dziekan: Veal.
- 6:38Don Armstrong: Veal.
- 6:38Don Armstrong: Veal's always good.
- 6:39Don Armstrong: Okay, first up this uh morning is going to be a 1955 Chevrolet Nomad.
- 6:47Don Armstrong: I'm out because they cut the rear fender well.
- 6:52Don Armstrong: Did they?
- 6:53Don Armstrong: That's not that's not stock.
- 6:55Mike Marrs: I don't know.
- 6:56Mike Marrs: Nah, I'm thinking that is on the nomad.
- 6:59Don Armstrong: We'll have to do that.
- 7:00Don Armstrong: Okay, well, I tell you what, it is your charge to correct me if I'm wrong.
- 7:06Mike Marrs: We we need you to go buy one and uh buy that one and we'll take it down and we'll find it and find out.
- 7:13Jeff Dziekan: I'm saying I've now I watched Meekham and the Bert Jackson was on a couple weeks ago.
- 7:17Jeff Dziekan: I'm saying 57.
- 7:19Jeff Dziekan: Some of these are not going as high as they used to be.
- 7:21Jeff Dziekan: I'm going 57K.
- 7:23Jeff Dziekan: Okay, that's my number.
- 7:24Don Armstrong: So these vehicles were built as delivery wagons.
- 7:28Don Armstrong: That's what they were built for.
- 7:29Don Armstrong: Then they'd have said, Well, you know, if we put a window back there, uh, we could make a back seat and uh, you know, maybe we could sell a few more of them.
- 7:39Don Armstrong: Well, they didn't sell that many of them, but boy, I'll tell you what, that is really cool looking, if you ask me.
- 7:44Mike Marrs: Except for nice car real well.
- 7:46Don Armstrong: Yeah, we like the color too.
- 7:47Don Armstrong: So how much did that sell for?
- 7:50Mike Marrs: I mean Heisman says 30,000.
- 7:53Don Armstrong: 30,000.
- 7:55Don Armstrong: Is there anybody else on with us?
- 7:57Don Armstrong: Is uh is uh is Mr.
- 8:00Don Armstrong: or George George?
- 8:01Don Armstrong: I don't think I don't think anybody else is with us.
- 8:03SPEAKER_02: Well, there comes George.
- 8:05Don Armstrong: George is here.
- 8:06SPEAKER_02: See what see what George has got.
- 8:08Don Armstrong: Okay, George says 40,000.
- 8:10Don Armstrong: Yeah, basically.
- 8:11Don Armstrong: And what did you say, Jeff?
- 8:12Don Armstrong: 57.
- 8:13Don Armstrong: 57.
- 8:14Don Armstrong: Well, it sold for 60,638 dollars.
- 8:18Jeff Dziekan: One thing about that, don't lose that picture.
- 8:20Jeff Dziekan: See on the dashboard on the bottom left how that you've got the uh both sides of the dash kind of look the same.
- 8:26Jeff Dziekan: Do you know why that is?
- 8:27Jeff Dziekan: Yeah, so they could export them and they could put the uh speedometer over there on the right, exactly.
- 8:32Jeff Dziekan: They can move the steering wheel to the right for the European sale.
- 8:34Jeff Dziekan: Exactly right.
- 8:35Don Armstrong: Thank you.
- 8:36Don Armstrong: Next up is a 1980 Chevrolet Camaro, an 80 Camaro.
- 8:45Don Armstrong: Now, I was never a big fan of this body style, no, never was.
- 8:50Mike Marrs: But uh I didn't I didn't care for the front end.
- 8:54Mike Marrs: No, I didn't either.
- 8:55Jeff Dziekan: Well, I think it has to do with the the red stripe and all that.
- 8:57Don Armstrong: If it was just one side of color, it's not no, it's not that, it's just the the the the Berlinetta or whatever thing that they came up with, the names that they came up with, the entry-level model, it was blah.
- 9:10Don Armstrong: 80 something.
- 9:11Jeff Dziekan: I'm gonna say 12 grand.
- 9:13Don Armstrong: 12 grand.
- 9:13Jeff Dziekan: I'm going 12.
- 9:14Don Armstrong: Okay, well, this is a pretty nice example of uh it's got the it's got the looks like Z28 wheels on it.
- 9:22Don Armstrong: Am I wrong?
- 9:23Don Armstrong: Yeah, they could be, yeah.
- 9:24Mike Marrs: White leather tires, factory ones, yeah, yeah.
- 9:28Don Armstrong: Okay, Jeff's gonna go for 45,000.
- 9:31Mike Marrs: Wow.
- 9:31Don Armstrong: On an 80 model, 23 and George says 23.
- 9:34Don Armstrong: Well, and what did you guess?
- 9:36Don Armstrong: Uh 12.
- 9:37Don Armstrong: Well, George wins because it's sold for 25,2.
- 9:40Don Armstrong: Oh, which I guess isn't a bad price for an 80 model.
- 9:44Jeff Dziekan: It has absolutely no horsepower, but but you just said it's a car nobody here on the panel likes.
- 9:50Don Armstrong: So well, I'm not a big fan of the body style, but it's a clean used car.
- 9:54Don Armstrong: Yeah, all right.
- 9:54Don Armstrong: Next up.
- 9:55Don Armstrong: That's what you want.
- 9:56Don Armstrong: Yeah, if that's what you want, go for it.
- 9:58Don Armstrong: Here's one for Jeff 1959 Cadillac Series 62.
- 10:03Don Armstrong: This is with the big tail fins in the back.
- 10:05Don Armstrong: Yeah.
- 10:06Don Armstrong: Uh at the beginning of the space era.
- 10:09Don Armstrong: I'll have to contact uh Patrick for the Carfax on that.
- 10:12Jeff Dziekan: Oh, yeah.
- 10:12Don Armstrong: How much do you think that 59 Cadillacs?
- 10:15Jeff Dziekan: I'm gonna go.
- 10:15Jeff Dziekan: I'm gonna go.
- 10:17Don Armstrong: Look, look, it's even got the uh it's even got the uh oil filter up on top that you unbolt it and it's gil everywhere.
- 10:26Mike Marrs: Yeah, I'm gonna go this is supposed to be the original 390 in it.
- 10:31Jeff Dziekan: 60 grand and not a penny more.
- 10:34Mike Marrs: 60 iTunes says 35.
- 10:40Jeff Dziekan: And and so um I got paid this week, so is spending all the money on the Cadillac.
- 10:45Don Armstrong: Well, um, I will tell you right now that um it sold for 36.7.
- 10:51Don Armstrong: So the extra money that everybody bid for this, you're going to have to have the garage remodel because that's gonna can't get it in there.
- 10:59Don Armstrong: Learn how to drive a boat.
- 11:01Don Armstrong: Next up, now the Cadillac.
- 11:03Don Armstrong: Now, now we're talking business.
- 11:08Don Armstrong: This, ladies and gentlemen, is a 1990 Cadillac Broham.
- 11:14Don Armstrong: It's a bro ham.
- 11:16Jeff Dziekan: You can tell by the opera window and the uh uh Landau top.
- 11:19Don Armstrong: So they charged extra money for the for the Landau top and the opera window, and it is a four-door, and it it may fit in the garage, but it'll be tight.
- 11:28Don Armstrong: Yeah, and I think those seats are like 12 feet thick, yeah.
- 11:32Jeff Dziekan: They are and and if it if it looks like uh those velveteen seats, or is that um I don't know it's like a pillowed living room 27,000.
- 11:45Jeff Dziekan: 27,000.
- 11:48Mike Marrs: I just says 55.
- 11:50Mike Marrs: If I'm not mistaken, it's got New Jersey plates on it, too.
- 11:53Don Armstrong: Oh, so check the trunk for anything.
- 11:55Don Armstrong: Rush, just saying people, uh so a 1990 Cadillac Broham sold for$6,000.
- 12:04Jeff Dziekan: Oh my goodness, that's chump change.
- 12:07Don Armstrong: It is.
- 12:07Don Armstrong: I'd buy it.
- 12:08Don Armstrong: You know, the metal in it is probably worth six thousand dollars.
- 12:12Jeff Dziekan: Just the weight of the motor.
- 12:13Jeff Dziekan: Yeah, Mike's got that in his pocket.
- 12:16Don Armstrong: Next up, this is for you, Jeff.
- 12:20Don Armstrong: A 1996 Buick Roadmaster with wood sides on it.
- 12:26Mike Marrs: Still in the shipping crate, just for you.
- 12:30Jeff Dziekan: I'm not sure I would put Krager SS wheels on it.
- 12:33Jeff Dziekan: I don't know, Craig, they might be some type of knockoff to do something.
- 12:36Jeff Dziekan: Yeah, I'm gonna go 12 grand, 12 grand for Jeff.
- 12:40Jeff Dziekan: Now, see, that would be perfect for you, Jeff.
- 12:42Jeff Dziekan: Yes, it would be.
- 12:43Don Armstrong: But it's no gas mileage whatsoever.
- 12:46Don Armstrong: Put a blower on the top, yeah, it'd be good.
- 12:48Don Armstrong: I'd like to have the Oldsmobile version, the Vista Cruiser of that.
- 12:52Don Armstrong: Oh, yeah.
- 12:53Don Armstrong: How much?
- 12:54Don Armstrong: Jeff says 15.12.
- 12:55Don Armstrong: Oh, Jeff Heitzman says 15.
- 12:57Don Armstrong: This would be a Heitzman car.
- 12:59Don Armstrong: You think?
- 13:00Don Armstrong: Yeah, yeah, it's sold.
- 13:02Don Armstrong: It huh?
- 13:02Mike Marrs: He could push that front seat back and kind of be like a low rider, you know.
- 13:06Mike Marrs: Yeah, he's a thing out there.
- 13:08Don Armstrong: Okay, well, George wins because it's sold for 13,650.
- 13:12Jeff Dziekan: Oh, George.
- 13:14Don Armstrong: There you go.
- 13:15Don Armstrong: I can't see George with Craig's SS on it, though.
- 13:18Jeff Dziekan: You know, Twilo drive that.
- 13:19Don Armstrong: Twilight she could drive him around.
- 13:21Jeff Dziekan: Yeah, exactly.
- 13:22Don Armstrong: He'd be laid out in the back, sprawled out, sprawled out.
- 13:25Don Armstrong: Next up, laid out a 1975 Triumph TR6.
- 13:32Don Armstrong: Good luck in trying to find parts for this.
- 13:34Don Armstrong: As far as the British era motor cars, I think that this was pretty good looking back in its day.
- 13:41Don Armstrong: It was a 75 Triumph TR6.
- 13:44Don Armstrong: Now, to me, the TR6 had a six-cylinder in it.
- 13:48Don Armstrong: I think it did.
- 13:48Jeff Dziekan: My brother-in-law, Jerry, had a spider, it was a white one, red interior.
- 13:53Don Armstrong: So, how much do you think that cost?
- 13:55Don Armstrong: Now, and the sale price of it, because it's gonna cost you a whole lot more than that to try to find parts.
- 14:01Jeff Dziekan: Yeah, because it's got dual carbon you're gonna have to deal with.
- 14:04Jeff Dziekan: I'm gonna go 12,000 again.
- 14:06Don Armstrong: 12,000.
- 14:08Don Armstrong: Jeff says 13,000.
- 14:11Jeff Dziekan: It's probably gonna be like eight.
- 14:12Don Armstrong: And George Skelton says 17,999.
- 14:20Don Armstrong: It sold for George winning all the cars today.
- 14:22Don Armstrong: It sold for 18.9.
- 14:24Jeff Dziekan: You better have a big garage, man.
- 14:26Don Armstrong: Oh, he does in his estate.
- 14:29Jeff Dziekan: Oh, yeah.
- 14:30Jeff Dziekan: On the on the back 40.
- 14:31Don Armstrong: So okay, so we're gonna go with another British one.
- 14:34Don Armstrong: Uh, and this is a 1980 MGB.
- 14:40Mike Marrs: You gotta look close at the engine compartment in this one.
- 14:43Don Armstrong: Why looking for mice or something?
- 14:45Don Armstrong: No, we're looking for some sort of a wiring nightmare.
- 14:49Mike Marrs: Golly.
- 14:50Jeff Dziekan: Looks like an aftermarket alarm's been put in.
- 14:53Jeff Dziekan: Uh, a Kraco radio has been put in.
- 14:56Jeff Dziekan: Krako radio.
- 14:57Jeff Dziekan: I know the wire.
- 14:58Jeff Dziekan: That was the Kmart version, wasn't it?
- 15:00Jeff Dziekan: A Krako Krako.
- 15:01Jeff Dziekan: Yeah, that was oh gosh.
- 15:04Jeff Dziekan: I'm gonna go eight grand.
- 15:08Don Armstrong: Jeff goes for eight eight grand.
- 15:11Don Armstrong: What is what are what are our other two bids this morning?
- 15:13Mike Marrs: Eight nineteen from Jeff.
- 15:15Jeff Dziekan: Wow.
- 15:16Don Armstrong: Jeff, are you looking at the same picture we are?
- 15:19Don Armstrong: Jeff and and uh did did did George come in with a bid yet?
- 15:24SPEAKER_02: Not yet, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 15:26SPEAKER_02: So just 12 million for George.
- 15:29Don Armstrong: This this is fitting.
- 15:30Don Armstrong: Okay, this is fitting.
- 15:32Mike Marrs: What did you say, Mike?
- 15:33Mike Marrs: I was gonna tell you in the notes, it says it's a one point liter liter 1.8 liter engine.
- 15:38Mike Marrs: It's got 50 pages of documentation to go with this car.
- 15:42Mike Marrs: However, you have to use starter fluid to get it to run, get it to start, but it will not continue running.
- 15:49Jeff Dziekan: I'm taking my eight grand back.
- 15:53Don Armstrong: The sold car price, believe it or not, apparently they've sold it, three thousand five hundred dollars.
- 15:59Don Armstrong: Well, see, the extra five grand was for starting fluid.
- 16:01Don Armstrong: That's it.
- 16:02Mike Marrs: Yeah, you can't have a big gallon bucket of it and a little gravity drain to keep it.
- 16:06Don Armstrong: Obviously, some carburetor work is needed.
- 16:08Don Armstrong: All right, and last up, um, this is very similar to uh Chase Murray's car.
- 16:13Don Armstrong: So this is a 1973 Lincoln Mark IV.
- 16:19Don Armstrong: It's the two-door.
- 16:21Don Armstrong: Look at the seats.
- 16:22Don Armstrong: Oh yeah, oh yeah.
- 16:24Don Armstrong: This is it.
- 16:25Don Armstrong: How much did this 73 Lincoln Mark IV sell for?
- 16:29Mike Marrs: Yeah, 14,000, 49,000 original miles to owner.
- 16:37Mike Marrs: Wow, 460 cubic inch four-barrel.
- 16:40Don Armstrong: Yeah, can you imagine uh taking it, taking it to uh Tom Yvonne Motors, Tom Yvonne Fox?
- 16:49Jeff Dziekan: Taking it on the cruise.
- 16:51Don Armstrong: How much would that cost to have them give it a once over and tune the carburetor?
- 16:58Don Armstrong: How much would that cost, you think?
- 16:59Don Armstrong: I don't know.
- 17:00Don Armstrong: Well, it's sold for exactly what Jeff Heitzmann just bid$22,050.
- 17:06Mike Marrs: Wow.
- 17:07Mike Marrs: And Jeff would look good in that.
- 17:09Don Armstrong: You would, yes, absolutely.
- 17:11Jeff Dziekan: Put some curve feelers on the right side.
- 17:13Don Armstrong: You yeah.
- 17:14Don Armstrong: Oh, yeah.

- 19:54Jeff Dziekan: And then you've got for July, you've got the uh today, the Mid-American mower racing series at the Sharp County Fairgrounds, Mike.
- 20:01Jeff Dziekan: You may ask where that's at.
- 20:03Jeff Dziekan: It's in Ash Flat, Arkansas.
- 20:05Jeff Dziekan: I actually took my mower in for service this week.
- 20:07Jeff Dziekan: I've got a transmission issue.
- 20:09Jeff Dziekan: I'm putting a tremendous six beat in it.
- 20:11Jeff Dziekan: And uh I'm having a new blade put on because evidently I the bicycle I ran over with it bent the blade.
- 20:17Jeff Dziekan: So uh, you know, we're we're having that repaired as well.
- 20:19Jeff Dziekan: Should have it back next week.
- 20:20Jeff Dziekan: So there you go.
- 20:21Don Armstrong: There you go.
- 20:22Don Armstrong: All right, time now for this week's auto history, Mr.
- 20:25Don Armstrong: Mars, it's all yours.
- 20:28Don Armstrong: And we cannot hear you for some reason.
- 20:31Mike Marrs: Forgot to turn the mute back off.
- 20:32Don Armstrong: Oh, that's all right.
- 20:33Mike Marrs: And so this week, uh coming up this week in auto history, some of the things that we noticed uh we thought were interesting.
- 20:39Mike Marrs: You may want to follow up on Tuesday, for example, on July the 14th, way back when in 1960.
- 20:46Mike Marrs: They uh Jaguar, Don's one of Don's favorite production uh companies, produced the last of the XK150.
- 20:56Mike Marrs: Now, this is the final model of the XK sports car series that began with a 120 in 1948, had leather, walnut interior, 3.4 liter, had 150 horsepower, and it was part of what helped bring Jaguar into a name as a world-class sports car manufacturer.
- 21:16Mike Marrs: And then uh also on Wednesday this coming week, July the 15th, Ford began production of the revolutionary Taurus.
- 21:25Mike Marrs: Now, this is a mid-sized sedan, and it got away from the boxy styling of the early 1980s that Ford was using.
- 21:31Mike Marrs: So it had some aerodynamics, had front-wheel drive, and it was supposedly a driver-focused interior.
- 21:38Mike Marrs: And it became real successful immediately, and it really helped push Ford back into the competitive position of the family car market, and uh a lot of people followed it in the styling.
- 21:50Mike Marrs: Then uh on the July the 16th, 1980, Jim introduced the X Car platform.
- 21:58Mike Marrs: Now this was a Front wheel drive X car lineup included the Citation, the Pontiac Phoenix, the Oldsmobile Omega, the Buick Skylark.
- 22:08Mike Marrs: And this was GM shift from the traditional rear-wheel drive and compact cars to try and get into the more fuel efficient front car market because of the fuel crisis that we'd gone through in the 1970s.
- 22:22Jeff Dziekan: Real quick, Mike, when I worked for Turbo Hydromatic on the line, I was making transmission uh low and reverse clutch housings for that car.
- 22:29Jeff Dziekan: And it was uh recalled quite a bit because of my work.
- 22:34Jeff Dziekan: Your contribution, you contributed to that.
- 22:36Jeff Dziekan: No, it was a it was really a cruddy, cruddy operation, but that's right.
- 22:40Mike Marrs: I understand.
- 22:40Mike Marrs: So uh moving on to July the 17th, Volkswagen introduced the new Beatle.
- 22:45Mike Marrs: Now, I say new Beatle, it's gonna look a lot like the old Beatle, but it has front engine front-wheel drive vehicle.
- 22:52Mike Marrs: Uh it's basically built on the golf platform, and it did a lot of brought in some new engineering and stuff that was not available in the original type one, and it re-re-ignited the whole Beatle Mania thing that came up through the Volkswagen.
- 23:08Mike Marrs: Then uh July the 18th, the final classic Volkswagen Beetle is built after they've made 21.5 million that were produced worldwide.
- 23:17Mike Marrs: They actually stopped building that model.
- 23:19Mike Marrs: And lastly, July the 18th, this one, the GM ignition switch compensation program begins.
- 23:26Mike Marrs: Uh 11.5 million vehicles in the U.S.
- 23:30Mike Marrs: It was, I never understood all this about what was going on.
- 23:34Mike Marrs: It was to me, it was silly, and it was even sillier after all that that they still put a key ignition in some of the vehicles for years and years.
- 23:44Mike Marrs: Anyway, some of the things that are coming up this week in automotive history that you might want to look into.
- 23:49Don Armstrong: Volkswagen Group plans to drastically cut its model lineup and further pair back capacity as Europe's largest automaker, considers a far-reaching overhaul that sources say could cost the company around 100,000 jobs.
- 24:03Don Armstrong: Tesla rapidly becoming the Model Y company as it leans on its best-selling crossover for sales growth, and a new long wheelbase three-row variant that plugs a hole in its shrinking lineup.
- 24:15Don Armstrong: The surging Ram 1500 pulled Stellantis to its fourth quarterly U.S.
- 24:20Don Armstrong: sales gain in what was an otherwise shaky sketch for many of the automaker's key nameplates.
- 24:25Don Armstrong: The Jeep Grand Cherokee, Compass, Wrangler, Gladiator all posted lower sales in the second quarter, as did the Dodge Durango.
- 24:33Don Armstrong: Bronco even outsold the Wrangler for the first time in a quarter since the SUVs renewed their rivalry rivalry in 2021.
- 24:42Don Armstrong: But Rams' flagship light duty pickup climbed 27%, keeping Stellantis on pace to reverse its streak of seven consecutive sales declines.
- 24:52Don Armstrong: Total deliveries for the company rose 6% overall in the first half.
- 24:58Don Armstrong: Honda CRV has capitalized on inventory shortfalls at Toyota and Ford to become America's best-selling light vehicle in the first half of 2026.
- 25:07Don Armstrong: U.S.
- 25:08Don Armstrong: sales surged 19% in May, 30% in June to a mid-year tally of 226,000 vehicles.
- 25:16Don Armstrong: And GT Tire Company kicked off U.S.
- 25:19Don Armstrong: launch of the GT brand portfolio of passenger and light truck tires with the announcement of four new products, all built and designed in America.
