- 0:00We've been doing step by step. We've been using our Blankensky
- 0:04step it as a wave, going step by step in the development of life.
- 0:09And Severus O'hortio Shea, which he gives you the way of a
- 0:14straight person, the way of a developed person, and he goes
- 0:17through every letter in the olive it and he gives you a
- 0:20lesson based on that letter. So calf had a lot of things.
- 0:23It had cavorta, their parents cavorta, rabbis cavorta.
- 0:27It had avoiding costs, which is anger.
- 0:30Now we move on to Lamid. Lamid gives you the law on the
- 0:33topic of LED Sanut. What's LED Sanut ridiculing,
- 0:39joking around. Now you wonder what's so severe
- 0:45and what's so significant about being a person Who ridicules?
- 0:50Who makes fun of, who jokes around?
- 0:53Who says it's wisecracks? What's so bad?
- 0:56Is it that bad? It's not bad to be a let's to be
- 1:00a person who says a wisecrack. What's a big deal?
- 1:03So I make fun of things this time.
- 1:05So I have a sense of humor, so to speak.
- 1:07So I comment so bad makes people happy.
- 1:10It makes, you know, at some degree it makes people laugh.
- 1:13It makes you a chuckle, right? Let's see the issue on the topic
- 1:16about listening. There's nothing wrong with a
- 1:18sense of humor. If you're very clear, there's
- 1:20nothing wrong with comedy. There's nothing wrong with
- 1:22having a good time. In fact, they came out in the
- 1:24Midash brings it to us. The rabbis, before they would
- 1:27say their class, they would start off with a joke from the
- 1:30time of thinking about. I'm talking about.
- 1:31Yeah. They start off with a wisecrack
- 1:34just to get people going. Nothing wrong.
- 1:37Yeah. And Shiva by yourself.
- 1:39OK, that makes sense. But now let's see the concept of
- 1:43LED sanut, which is mockery, which is not only mockery, it's
- 1:47all idea making wisecracks. Let's see how it can be very
- 1:50destructive. And you can imagine where we're
- 1:52going. Let's see it together.
- 1:53Yeah. Shanashim There are people who
- 1:58respond to their friends, but they're logged Valette Sanut to
- 2:02making fun of and to mockery the Gamma, and it also includes the
- 2:08people who are greater than them.
- 2:09They make fun of them as well. The Zeba This comes from the
- 2:16foolish arrogance. In other words, the idea of
- 2:19making a mockery means I believe what they are saying, who they
- 2:23are is less than me. If I can make fun of them, that
- 2:26means I consider myself in this area better than them.
- 2:30That's just wait. Now whether I realize that or
- 2:31not, that's a different story. But that's what I'm saying.
- 2:34When I make that joke, when I make fun of us, it's almost as a
- 2:36comment. It's almost as a statement,
- 2:39sometimes as a speech. And I make a joke in the back of
- 2:41the room. What I am in a sense saying is
- 2:44his words are worthless and I know better.
- 2:47And that's an issue. Shiroshim people think of
- 2:50themselves. Shihan mahamim.
- 2:52Mikola Olam, it's smarter than everyone, like any foolish
- 2:57person thinks it's Kumarska to says.
- 3:02I saw a person who's wise in his own eyes to Kabali and his he's
- 3:09pretty much the most foolish person around.
- 3:11That's how life works. The guy makes fun of other
- 3:13people, and he's saying so standing on his, you know,
- 3:17made-up podium, standing on his soapbox, making fun of other
- 3:20people. In reality, what he is, he is in
- 3:23a sense, Dumber than all of them.
- 3:25As he's telling you, the hoshev. And the person, when he makes
- 3:28these comments, thinks Shaydel ET sanut maxiquim otola hakam
- 3:35part of this person's mindset. What he makes fun of is that he
- 3:39thinks in his own mind that I am putting them down.
- 3:44I'm showing who's smart and people will look at me and say,
- 3:49wow, he always very, you know, very critical.
- 3:51He has always a good thing to say.
- 3:53He's a smart, he's a sharp angle.
- 3:55He's sharp and the person thinks of himself when he makes that
- 3:58wisecracker, he thinks of himself, that he's actually
- 4:01smarter and people are going to think of himself as smarter.
- 4:03This is the reality and the mindset of people.
- 4:05This is what he says. Then he doesn't realize that
- 4:10it's actually the opposite. It's a sign of foolishness to be
- 4:14a guy who makes comments, to be a guy who blurts out a line, be
- 4:19a guy who is wisecrack that person, He thinks he's smarter
- 4:23than them and he thinks that other people are going to see as
- 4:25a small person. And in reality, it's the exact
- 4:27opposite. It's a sign of being a fool
- 4:31chronic, as he's telling you in this epic.
- 4:33These are things for many sources of ghazal, but the idea
- 4:36is simple. A person in their mind wants to
- 4:40be prominent, a person in their mind who wants to be a big deal.
- 4:44So you got a guy that gets up there some stage and he makes a
- 4:47whole big dramatic speech. And you're sitting there in the
- 4:51back of the room, let you say argument's sake.
- 4:53You're a colleague. That's argument's sake.
- 4:56You're an equal, right? I just say, and now you're
- 4:59hearing this person make this whole major speech and you're
- 5:03watching as the room is getting enamored, right?
- 5:06You're seeing the whole room. They're all taken by the speech
- 5:10in your mind, the back of your mind thinking to self.
- 5:12Everyone's so impressed. Everyone makes such a big deal
- 5:14by this guy. You're not a big deal.
- 5:17So you make a line, say a line, you make a joke.
- 5:20All right. Your goal is to you know in your
- 5:22mind to bring normals into the room to bring Saturn into the
- 5:25room to make bring things down in reality.
- 5:28You're trying to make yourself seem smart.
- 5:30And really what we're doing is showing our own flaws because
- 5:34the person who has his approach is somebody that people
- 5:37eventually get turned off from. This is the reality he's telling
- 5:41you from the words of ghazal. And the truth is, it's from what
- 5:45we've all seen in our own lives as well.
- 5:47You've seen people this way, cynical people, critical people,
- 5:50people make fun of. And really what they're doing
- 5:52for themselves is only taking themselves down.
- 5:55We'll see. Approaching second God sounds
- 5:56like jealousy, Rabbi built on that.
- 5:59It's built on if you go deep, it's built on a couple of
- 6:02things. It depends, right?
- 6:04It depends who's making the joke, who's saying the line.
- 6:08Really depends on that very important point.
- 6:11If it's coming for someone who's bigger than the speaker or
- 6:14bigger than the person he's talking about and maybe
- 6:17disapproval, OK, that might be from a good place.
- 6:20If it's coming for someone who's a colleague, whether he really
- 6:23is a colleague or not, that's in his own mind.
- 6:25Doesn't make a difference if you're an equal, if you're an
- 6:28equal of your friend, your sibling, someone around, he's
- 6:32sitting by the table together. And if we all equals, right, and
- 6:36you make a comment about that person, you make a joke about
- 6:40that person, you make a response to his statement, all those
- 6:44things, right? I once gave a speech somewhere
- 6:47and someone got up and said something like, well, that was
- 6:51long, right? He was trying to 'cause I was
- 6:54really talking about him. It wasn't a bad thing because he
- 6:57was like uncomfortable. So he said that.
- 6:59That's basically saying you're, you're not really sure where you
- 7:02are. You're not really sure what
- 7:02you're saying. I didn't take it the wrong way.
- 7:04It was all fine, but it was a strange, you know, response And
- 7:07people do that, right, You know, And that's the idea is you have
- 7:11sounds like it's still bothering you.
- 7:13No, it's not bothering me at all.
- 7:15Didn't bother me at all, really. If you knew the person where it
- 7:17came from, it didn't bother me at all.
- 7:19He was just uncomfortable, that's all.
- 7:20It was his own way of trying to ease it in his tongue.
- 7:23He was trying to ease into his own speech and that was his, you
- 7:25know, way of doing it. Interesting.
- 7:27Why, but I was waiting on the less fine.
- 7:30But the idea is like this. Think about where you're
- 7:33standing when you're saying that line, where that person standing
- 7:36where they're saying that comment a line, the mockery, the
- 7:40joke about the other person's statement as follows.
- 7:43Like we said, if you're bigger, if the commenter is higher up
- 7:47and he very well might be disapproval, fine, that's OK.
- 7:51That's the process if they're even.
- 7:54And like we said, it just means even in your own mind and the
- 7:57person making that comment, very possibly, in fact, most most
- 8:03definitely, it's probable that that person with that comment is
- 8:08built on jealousy, jealousy or insecurity.
- 8:11In other words, a sense of I feel uncomfortable watching this
- 8:14person be so successful or be so dramatic and taking over the
- 8:19room. It bothers me to drop.
- 8:21So I'm going to say a line, I'm going to say a comment.
- 8:23I'm going to say a thing. That's just the way people are.
- 8:25And people try to take other people down by saying they're
- 8:28coming. Now, why is this topic so
- 8:29severe? There's a third type in a
- 8:30second. Why is this topic so severe?
- 8:32Why is it so bad to make jokes? This is the reality.
- 8:37You've heard the line before. That's another hot Doha.
- 8:44One joke can take down 100 lessons.
- 8:48That means like this. Let's say you have a rabbi, you
- 8:52have a robber that you listen to his classes all the time, right?
- 8:55There's those classes. His classes are about the
- 8:58importance of being a good father, right?
- 9:02He has a father series. He could take his father there.
- 9:05So he gives a class in general, right on cue, he gives a class
- 9:09about being good father. He's been doing it for six
- 9:11months. You've gone to his class every
- 9:13day for six months. You're learning a lot from him.
- 9:15You're really applying it how to be a good father.
- 9:18Then someone just in passing says, oh, him, he's giving you a
- 9:24class about how to be a good father.
- 9:26You ever seen his kids? You ever seen the way you treat
- 9:28them? A line like that?
- 9:29Even Brenda, I bet you they just say like this.
- 9:32I bet you he's not the best father himself.
- 9:34They don't say. They don't have a fact.
- 9:36They never saw him. They don't know where he lives.
- 9:38I bet you're not the best father himself, right?
- 9:41How destructive is that line in your mind?
- 9:43You know how destructive the line is.
- 9:45Potentially it can erase six months of lessons.
- 9:49Those lessons that went in, you say they went in already and you
- 9:51accepted them. No.
- 9:52Those lessons are all predicated on the person.
- 9:55That's how it works. Lessons are very much based on
- 9:58the example. When you hear something from
- 10:00someone, especially if you wanted to be effective, they're
- 10:03not a mouthpiece. Today especially, speakers are
- 10:07not mouthpieces. They are people, and the power
- 10:10of their speech is that you're absorbing that person and their
- 10:15message. In fact, if you go deeper, just
- 10:17as a side point, the psychology of speaking today has changed.
- 10:20It used to be a speaker never said a thing about his personal
- 10:23life. Not a single thing.
- 10:25All right, I know my father. In the early days, you would not
- 10:28know what his personal life was at all.
- 10:30Not a single thing. Maybe once in a while.
- 10:34Now every speech is all personal.
- 10:37It's extreme the other way, probably someone in the middle,
- 10:39maybe the better way in general, but what's the idea?
- 10:42Why to change? What's the psychology of
- 10:44speakers? Psychology of speakers is that
- 10:46you want to absorb the person you almost like you want to take
- 10:50a part of him in that area and a part of him in that area.
- 10:52And so when he tells you how he had an experience with his
- 10:55children and how to be a good father based on that, you're
- 10:59taking them with you. If I tell you that them they're
- 11:04not such a good father themselves, what I do, I just
- 11:08destroyed the power of their words.
- 11:11Gone. Goodbye, Charlie.
- 11:13And it could be 6 months, it could be 6 years.
- 11:16It could be a lifetime. There are people that I'm close
- 11:18to who code to me. They're rabbis, OK.
- 11:21And it so happens to be. I know they're rabbis.
- 11:24I happen to know the rabbi's history in his past.
- 11:26And I'd be honest, fully honest with you, I do not hold of their
- 11:30rabbi. I do not approve of him.
- 11:31Certainly things in his life I don't approve.
- 11:34And I have to hold my tongue before I make a comment when
- 11:38they're talking with the rabbit said this and I said that.
- 11:40All right, what? After all my tongue?
- 11:42Because I know that they're always not doing anything
- 11:44destructive with them. I know the situation.
- 11:46And if I say a word, it's going to ruin.
- 11:48It's going to take down the entire source of inspiration.
- 11:51That's a very destructive thing. So the reason you don't want to
- 11:53be a person who makes comments, who says jokes, who makes fun of
- 11:58things that people say that they're impressed by is because
- 12:02they could take down their inspiration.
- 12:04Yeah. But you say, you know what, OK,
- 12:05I'm not the jealous type. Leave that out.
- 12:07If I'm a colleague, I'm jealous for sure.
- 12:10Ignore what I have to say. That's jealousy nonsense.
- 12:13But what's the big deal? Me saying a comment, I want
- 12:15people to be real. I don't want people to get so
- 12:16enamored they get so enamored they get so, you know, I believe
- 12:20today that we get. So overall, when we swept into
- 12:23what people have to say and who people are, it's overdoing it.
- 12:26Maybe I should take them down the size of drop.
- 12:29The reality is you had the questions to me.
- 12:32Let's say I have someone who they get very inspired by their
- 12:36sermon rabbi, they get overwhelmingly inspired and I
- 12:39know everything against him, but I should take him down a drop
- 12:42because he's not that big a deal.
- 12:43Whatever. Maybe the way it works is like
- 12:45this. Hashem wants to send lessons to
- 12:49his people. How does God's change people?
- 12:53Through these mouthpieces, through these people.
- 12:55So God is using these people as a vehicle to deliver his
- 12:59message. If we start making everything
- 13:02real and we start saying, oh, he thinks he knows that topic so
- 13:06well. Did he ever learn that topic?
- 13:08And he thinks he's the best father.
- 13:09Has he ever experienced fatherhood the right way?
- 13:12And he thinks he's the best business advisor.
- 13:14Has he ever run a business? And he started taking these
- 13:16things down to earth. You know what's going to happen?
- 13:18People will not get better because of that.
- 13:21What you think they will, because I've become more real,
- 13:23people will become less inspired and therefore less uplifted.
- 13:27God has a way. The route on itself might have
- 13:31to up his game. That's a private thing between
- 13:32the rabbi and Hashem. But for us, we can look at the
- 13:35situation and say God has a way of inspiring people.
- 13:39God has a way of lifting people up.
- 13:41Let them be the vehicles. You do not need to be the fact
- 13:44checker on every single piece of information.
- 13:46You're not like by the by the debates.
- 13:48They have that part. They have to have a thing on the
- 13:49screen as they're doing debates. What does it say there?
- 13:52You know, 6 lies over here and seven lies over there, which is
- 13:55a wild thing that they're allowed to have, right?
- 13:58But you don't need to be that guy.
- 13:59Let people be inspired. It's all OK.
- 14:01Hashem will be there to protect people from falling in with the
- 14:05wrong person. If you see someone who's
- 14:06dangerous, different story. If you see someone investing in
- 14:09the wrong thing, different story.
- 14:11But someone's getting inspired. It's all good.
- 14:14Overwhelmingly it's good. And the theme is is that when
- 14:18you take them down and when you make fun of something, when you
- 14:22ridicule, just saying a joke, like oh, him.
- 14:25Oh, yeah, just oh, him. Got that two words.
- 14:29Oh him. You don't even say what you're
- 14:31saying about Oh, him. Oh, him.
- 14:32Better yet, you can even make a face.
- 14:34I roll. Exactly.
- 14:36Roll your eyes. It can destroy.
- 14:39I'm telling you, I met. It can destroy a decade of
- 14:42Musar. Can you imagine?
- 14:44For purpose. Just because I want the world to
- 14:47be honest or just because I, I'm a little jealous of him and
- 14:51we're colleagues. This is a real challenge that
- 14:53exists today. It's all over the place.
- 14:55You go to your Shiva, they say you know what the rabbi said and
- 14:57someone says with the rabbi, So what you got to do?
- 15:01Did you ever learn yeshiva? Did you ever you ever learn the
- 15:04Halakhar properly? Who said all these things?
- 15:07And these are so common. They're beyond common and
- 15:11they're all based on the same theme.
- 15:13Someone taking something down. Now they take things down
- 15:16because they may be above taking it down because they don't, they
- 15:18don't approve. It's one level colleague, and
- 15:21the third level is the most important level.
- 15:22We'll stop it to this third level is people take things down
- 15:27because they don't want to change.
- 15:31Why would I ridicule Moussard inspiration?
- 15:35Because I don't want to hear it. I don't want to have to change.
- 15:38I don't want to be told the truth.
- 15:39It's uncomfortable, makes me feel uncomfortable.
- 15:42And therefore, let me say about them one liner that can push
- 15:45things at Bay. If you want to keep things the
- 15:48way they always were and the way they always want to be, you want
- 15:50to keep life the same. All you got to do is push away
- 15:53all the inspiration and say that's not a real story.
- 15:55Who said that's true? All these stories today, they
- 15:57always seem so perfect. They're not real.
- 16:00Push it away. That rabbi, what do you learn?
- 16:02Not real. That one.
- 16:04He doesn't address all topics out.
- 16:06He he talks about his family, family not that awesome.
- 16:09I'll see you later. And 1 by 1 you push them all
- 16:11away. And what do you do?
- 16:13You keep yourself the same and people like to be the same
- 16:17because it's uncomfortable to change.
- 16:19It's not comfortable to develop. It's not feel good.
- 16:21Even though at the end of time, at the end of life, you know it
- 16:24don't change what it was worth. The whole job is to change.
- 16:27People don't like it. And therefore the third reason
- 16:30people make jokes and make comments is because they do not
- 16:34want to develop ready yet. They don't want to be
- 16:36uncomfortable and no one's skin and therefore they make fun of.
- 16:40And our job is look at the situation and realize I should
- 16:43not make comments about inspiring situations, even if I
- 16:47don't approve. OK, I have a way of getting my
- 16:49point across without making the comment to take things down.
- 16:53Definitely not if I'm a colleague and definitely not if
- 16:55I'm someone who's less than someone who's maybe a congregant
- 16:59with someone who's under that person.
- 17:01And all I'm really displaying is a lack of willingness to change.
- 17:04I should not make that comment because what I'm doing is I'm
- 17:07keeping these at Bay but not gonna develop myself at all.
- 17:11He's an ideas. Stop with this.
