- 0:00Because we we... In the S and C
- 0:02community, we can we can discuss the all
- 0:04the benefits of supra maximal cedric
- 0:07strength training. But I'm not really interested in
- 0:09the supra maximum. I'm interested in the super
- 0:12fast eccentric training. Trend training on this
- 0:16their details were covered by Randy Huntington and
- 0:181 1 of your charts definite. So this
- 0:22elastic based pumping type of action. The benefit
- 0:26is the super fast eccentric piece of movement.
- 0:30That was Peter Mir,
- 0:32and you're listening to the Just performance podcast.
- 0:44Welcome to another episode of the podcast, and
- 0:47thanks for tuning in. This week's guest is
- 0:49Peter Mer,
- 0:50and he is 1 of the best speed
- 0:52power coaches that you've likely never heard of.
- 0:55Peter is a Sprints and Hurdles coach. The
- 0:57University of Love, Poland. He's a strengthening conditioning
- 1:00coach, He's held the position of Polish athletics
- 1:03National team Coach and he's a current speed
- 1:05climbing at national team coach for Poland.
- 1:08Peter specializes in multi sports speed development and
- 1:11is studied from some of the greatest coaching
- 1:13minds in the world, and he's helped athletes
- 1:15to incredible results along the way. On today's
- 1:18podcast, Peter will speak of many aspects of
- 1:21speed and power training,
- 1:22including the nature of rhythm and hurt and
- 1:24athletic movement. He'll talk about an angular approach
- 1:27to sprint. He'll get into body weight isometric
- 1:30holds and talk about his approach to us
- 1:32Lat isometric training, this and much more on
- 1:35the show today. It was awesome talking to
- 1:37Peter. He's an absolutely brilliant mind. 1 last
- 1:40thing as well is in the show notes
- 1:41on just slice sports dot com. You can
- 1:43see an example of the oscillator method that
- 1:46Peter uses.
- 1:47With his sprinter and athletes. It's something that's
- 1:49certainly helpful to visualize so if you wanna
- 1:51check that out and what that looks like
- 1:53head to the show notes on just fly
- 1:54sports dot com. That all being said, let's
- 1:56get to the episode here with Peter Me.
- 2:00Peter, 1 of the videos you had sent
- 2:01me. I thought these were really interesting was
- 2:04It was your daughter doing, like, gallo drills,
- 2:06rhythm drills and doing hurt. And I'm I'm
- 2:08thinking about that more and more, with my
- 2:10children out. There... 6 and 8 land 5
- 2:13months, so she's just barely crawling or getting
- 2:15the crawling. But, what were some of the
- 2:18things that defined,
- 2:20the training
- 2:21of your daughter over the years and how
- 2:23has she progressed in hurt? I'd be really
- 2:24interested to hear some of that.
- 2:27Yeah. Yeah. She she my daughter 13 now
- 2:30she's... Overall very a fit elastic and still
- 2:34strong kind of athlete. So she she... She
- 2:36shows some natural, like,
- 2:39speed
- 2:40talent, maybe that's too much, but definitely she's
- 2:42the the, you know, pretty fast kit.
- 2:45And my approach to kids coaching,
- 2:48and hurdle coaching with kids absolutely
- 2:51built around constrained that led approach.
- 2:54So what I want to build at this
- 2:56stage of her life like she's 13
- 2:59until the moment she
- 3:01might
- 3:02compete at some point in the future
- 3:04is to to really build the skill. So
- 3:08in the past I was I was trying
- 3:10Rush a little bit with the with the
- 3:12speech training and with the speed development of
- 3:14of, you know,
- 3:16little children
- 3:17or you know, young teenagers and I changed
- 3:20my approach.
- 3:21The time now is to build absolutely fearless
- 3:25her.
- 3:26And my
- 3:28inspiration is is
- 3:29or is the animal
- 3:31kingdom. You know, like, the the
- 3:34my dog rushing sprint across you know, the
- 3:36woods is is not thinking about what what
- 3:39he's doing or what she doing because I
- 3:41have to lovely pit blues at my, you
- 3:43house. So they're not thinking what they're doing
- 3:46they're just doing that. So my idea of
- 3:48of coaching hurt at this level is to
- 3:51build the skill
- 3:53and to make her feel less her link
- 3:56without thinking how to do it. So
- 3:58the gallo pink is is up absolutely the
- 4:01the the step 1 and into her link.
- 4:03So I can coach I can successfully coach
- 4:06and to her anybody, and I need 15
- 4:08minutes. Absolutely and it's not just it's not
- 4:11just, you know,
- 4:12clearing 1 hurdle. I can sell like a
- 4:145 or 10 hurdles, and anybody can can
- 4:16maintain the rhythm because
- 4:18the step 1 into hurting for me is
- 4:20like the gallo pink. So you're always basically
- 4:23what is gallo pink. It's like, you know,
- 4:25it's like a running
- 4:27through a cut step. And what is a
- 4:29cut step is the step that you need
- 4:30to clear the hurdle. So basically,
- 4:33to avoid it any risk of of missing
- 4:36the hurdle or hitting the hurdle with the
- 4:38with a child is just to make them
- 4:40make them being ready to create the hurdle
- 4:43And if you gallo, you're always ready to
- 4:45clear the hair. And it's natural way to
- 4:47to show which will be your lead leg
- 4:49which will be a trail leg. And you're
- 4:51always ready to hurt Like. I can said
- 4:53that you know the set of 10:12 hurdles
- 4:56and the distance is totally random. But she
- 4:59can always clear the hurdle because she's always
- 5:01ready to clear the hurdle, and this is
- 5:03my absolute number 1,
- 5:05And what's important, I use the this training
- 5:08modality also with the with a, like, a
- 5:10pro hurdle like, you know, sub 13 seconds,
- 5:13female hardware because female handling as is is
- 5:15my specialty. I'm I'm not that mag to
- 5:18into male herd. So what I want from
- 5:21her now just to close the topic is
- 5:23like to to be a feel less hurdle,
- 5:26constrained led approach into into coaching.
- 5:29So I'm not giving her instructions. I'm giving
- 5:32her task
- 5:33to solve.
- 5:35And of course, what I need to maintain
- 5:37is like a hip mobility,
- 5:39which is which is a lot easier with
- 5:40the girls, You know, be be if if
- 5:42we maintain it trip puberty
- 5:44then I'm fine. It's... The changes are around,
- 5:46you know hip mobility
- 5:48are easy easier to maintain among girls than
- 5:51than boys.
- 5:52And her absolute passion at this
- 5:55stage of her life is dancing sync. So
- 5:58she's
- 5:59she's like she she's like a, you know,
- 6:01a hip hop denser. So what she's doing
- 6:04there? She's doing the rhythm training, and she's
- 6:06got natural skills for rhythm. So she's dancing,
- 6:10maintaining the rhythm.
- 6:12I'm maintaining the the the field her link
- 6:15through Yellow developing pink and
- 6:17That's what I need. And and there will
- 6:18be time for speed development
- 6:20in the future. Also also my kind of
- 6:23critics towards towards hurt in general are the
- 6:26I
- 6:28competition rules, which are crazy.
- 6:30When I see, like, you know, 16 years
- 6:31old girl who who are supposed to, you
- 6:33know,
- 6:34maintain a rhythm through 8 meter distance or
- 6:37something that that's crazy. This this should really...
- 6:39This should really grow with the with the
- 6:41children development. So I'm gonna wait
- 6:44until the moment that she's she's comfortable with
- 6:473 step
- 6:48her. It's different than everybody does because it
- 6:51doesn't... You you go through 5 steps or
- 6:534 steps,
- 6:54training, you know, training bottlenecks legs.
- 6:57I'm gonna wait
- 6:58until she's comfortable with with, you know, Teresa
- 7:01hurley. That's it.
- 7:04Yeah.
- 7:051 of the reasons I I chose that
- 7:07question
- 7:07for the first 1 is just because I
- 7:09I think that hurt
- 7:11is this
- 7:12intersection of athletic that brings
- 7:15so many qualities together.
- 7:17And a rhythm is 1 of those really
- 7:19critical qualities. And I think like you said
- 7:21the way that
- 7:23I think things are often taught, especially unfortunately
- 7:25to children, it's like, if, like, okay, you
- 7:28know, move your arm here, or move your
- 7:29leg here, This is how you do it.
- 7:31And honestly, even, like, I'm coaching a high
- 7:35school track and even in the scope of
- 7:37working with older athletes in the hurdles. I
- 7:40start with rhythm first. Like, let's do the
- 7:43we do, like, the lead leg and the
- 7:44then the trail drills, but I don't connect
- 7:46anything. I'm like hey, Let's just do these
- 7:47drills. And then we just do rhythm them.
- 7:49And
- 7:50if if you can get that first, and
- 7:53then also like, you just
- 7:55enjoy the environment problem solving. A lot of
- 7:57those gaps can
- 7:59close themselves over time. And it reminds me
- 8:01of
- 8:02Raf Kelly sort of video of his. I
- 8:04think his son was 8 at the time
- 8:05doing, like, a neighborhood track me.
- 8:08And he ran the same speed the hurdles
- 8:09as he did in the open, you know,
- 8:1150 50 meter dash or whatever. So he
- 8:13ran the same time with the hurdles because
- 8:15He does so much nature parkour in Ninja.
- 8:18I feel like it's almost like, this is
- 8:19exciting now. Like, you know, and and it's
- 8:21just natural.
- 8:22And there was
- 8:24his last thing I'll mention here is there
- 8:26was a really good study. I think it
- 8:27was somewhere in England.
- 8:29I don't think it was... I don't think
- 8:30it was Ing english Premier, it might have
- 8:31been Scotland somewhere. III don't know the exact
- 8:34place, but there was a study that was
- 8:35showing the the highest skill of defensive players
- 8:37later on. They tracked their training back. They
- 8:39tracked their hours of play. They track when
- 8:41they're first introduced the sport and the thing
- 8:43that actually determine their top skill was free
- 8:46play.
- 8:46In how many hours of free play did
- 8:48you have. And the way you're framing it
- 8:49up, It's like even different dis... Random distances
- 8:52of hurdles very distances. How can we play?
- 8:55How can we have rhythm?
- 8:56And it's just... I think that's valuable for
- 8:58both younger athletes and I think it has
- 9:01a lot of value for older athletes who
- 9:03especially those were just learning. So I love
- 9:05that you're doing that. Those videos you started
- 9:06just so cool to. I think there was
- 9:07like, course involved. Like 2 at some point
- 9:09like yeah. It's it's it's like you you
- 9:11that they call it, like a mini pony
- 9:13or something. It's like because you know, I
- 9:15think it's, like, you know,
- 9:17boys growing up, they wanna be nights and
- 9:19and and
- 9:21firefighters or, you know,
- 9:23You name it Or and the girls, they
- 9:25they... At some point, they just, you know,
- 9:28they'll... They they have, like, a passion for
- 9:30her horses for equality jan even thought not
- 9:33retraining.
- 9:34And the the mini horses is lots of
- 9:36fun. It was some point now she's 13.
- 9:38So it's, you know, she finds her herself
- 9:40a little bit.
- 9:42More serious person, but when she was like
- 9:44maybe 10. So I was even throwing the...
- 9:47I was using the whole football field.
- 9:49I mean, the soccer field, and I was
- 9:50showing, like the
- 9:5220 plus hurdles, the the different heights, you
- 9:55know? And and they were they were not...
- 9:56They were randomly thrown around the the whole
- 9:59field. So it looked like a equestrian parkour.
- 10:03So she felt like like that and here
- 10:06she need to to make a left cut
- 10:07right cut change the rhythm, and sometimes,
- 10:10you know, a lot of, like, a single
- 10:12step per link also,
- 10:13because that happens in in in real
- 10:16real full size question. So so I was
- 10:19using the the the patients that that she
- 10:21had over the years.
- 10:24What what was her interest? What what what
- 10:26was, you know, firing her up to put
- 10:28into into our track and field. Training I'd
- 10:31say. And you you know, you mentioned about
- 10:33the rhythm. I mentioned about the rhythm you're
- 10:35saying, you know, life happens in in in
- 10:37cycles, and then we have the rhythm. We
- 10:39have the frequencies and
- 10:42through through those
- 10:43setups, you you'll find the comfort. Basically,
- 10:46are the the when when you manage the
- 10:49rhythm in the in the in the little
- 10:50kids
- 10:52train, it's it's it's a play. I I
- 10:54don't even call it a training, but... When
- 10:55when you find
- 10:56the rhythm of the play. They just strive.
- 10:59They, they enjoy. They their... Their bodies and
- 11:01mind just
- 11:02appreciate the state. They are in due to
- 11:05to maintaining some some rhythm or managing the
- 11:08rhythm.
- 11:09So that's that's how I I find. That
- 11:11that that's why with people dance, you know,
- 11:14the the the human beings has have been
- 11:16dancing since thousands of years. So why not?
- 11:20Yeah. I was just thinking you got me
- 11:22thinking too about children and imagination, and I
- 11:25wonder, you know, I I had seen a
- 11:27little toy. It's like the horse like the
- 11:28stick with the the head Yeah. The Toy
- 11:30horse head on the end of it and
- 11:32there... I didn't seen that sport with, like
- 11:33the jumping. Like, I didn't even know those.
- 11:35It's thing like these girls jumping over high
- 11:37hurdles with the horse. So it's like what?
- 11:39Oh, it's huge in Europe. You have, like,
- 11:41a nationals. You have, like the European championships.
- 11:44Like, I think it's like hobby horse Thing.
- 11:46So you if you type in hobby horse.
- 11:49It's huge in Europe. So it's it's quite
- 11:52quite many times where you have, like, a
- 11:53the really equestrian
- 11:55competition. So like, the the pre event is
- 11:57like they hobby horse when you had, like
- 11:59those, you know, 10:10, 11 years old girls
- 12:02who are just clearing, like, hurdles like,
- 12:05on the hop house, which is great for
- 12:06me. I even prefer, you know, my sister
- 12:09wasn't an an an probably question when she
- 12:11was, you know, your years back
- 12:14So I... It's a risky sport. So I
- 12:17never IIII
- 12:18never meant to to have my daughter doing
- 12:20any christian
- 12:22more serious than just, you know,
- 12:24you know, hanging around and and just for
- 12:27having some fun in the saddle, but but
- 12:30this thing is just just lovely.
- 12:32Yeah. I I like how you mentioned your
- 12:34your daughter does a hip hop dancing, And
- 12:36I was just...
- 12:38I just finished my first year coaching
- 12:40at a local high school. And 1 of
- 12:42the middle school high jumpers, she set the
- 12:44middle school record this past year, and I
- 12:47work with middle school as well there.
- 12:49And well, it's interesting she... Because she runs
- 12:52distance,
- 12:53and then her dad's is a distance coach
- 12:55and then she does hi jump. And she
- 12:56still is jumping extremely high. And I'm... And
- 12:59I know distance you could say building the
- 13:00tendons and things like barefoot foot, but she
- 13:03still has just this twitch and pop in
- 13:05the takeoff, and her takeoff position is really
- 13:08really good.
- 13:09And I'm thinking myself, you know, how what
- 13:11qualities emerged so that she could do these
- 13:13things And then she told me, oh yeah,
- 13:14I up dancing. I did dance all the
- 13:16time. I did hip hop. I did tap.
- 13:17I did all these things, and I'm like,
- 13:19a, like, that's an ingredient in this equation
- 13:21that's starting to make sense.
- 13:23The, some of the speed on the approach
- 13:25and things like that isn't there because I
- 13:26think... And that's why
- 13:28we're expanding her events out a little bit
- 13:30to, like, trying get her in into 300
- 13:31hurdles and things like that. A kind of
- 13:33a halfway point between distance and high jump,
- 13:35and as well as some pent half on
- 13:37things, but it's it's so interesting when you
- 13:39hear what Athlete did when they were younger,
- 13:41and it starts to... Especially something that's that's
- 13:43rhythm and tapping the fast, like the fast
- 13:45feet, the fast twitch through the... Between the
- 13:47heel and the toe and things like that.
- 13:49Like that makes sense now. Yeah. And we
- 13:51can we we can even look into into
- 13:53mature athletes least. You know, then fast was
- 13:55talking about, like, a modern just
- 13:57tribal dancing you had Chris Cor,
- 14:01just recently,
- 14:02you, as your gas, and and you mentioned
- 14:05the the Irish stop dancing, and it makes
- 14:08so much sense and and anytime music is
- 14:10involved, and the natural the natural rhythm rhythm
- 14:14that has to follow the the music rhythm.
- 14:16It's it's it's it's just pure joy for
- 14:19anyone, you know, for for any
- 14:21anybody loves to to dance and and and
- 14:23when you
- 14:24when this gives you also, like, a high
- 14:27quality training, so, I think that's the best
- 14:29way that the... That can happen to a
- 14:31child. And the only thing
- 14:33that I'm trying to
- 14:36take care of. It's just taking shows off
- 14:38whenever it's possible. So
- 14:40I know when when she's in a class,
- 14:42you know, it's, like the hip hop style,
- 14:45sculpture, you know, the clothes, and, you know,
- 14:47the hoo and and and
- 14:48lose outfit, I I understand. I cannot interfere
- 14:51because, you know, she's in the group there
- 14:52and and there's a whole culture. Ma'am, I
- 14:54I totally, I I absolutely respect that. But
- 14:57whenever she's she's training at home, and she
- 14:59do it all the time.
- 15:01I just hey, take your shoes over and
- 15:02I'm fine with that, then dance as long
- 15:04as you as you wish. So then we
- 15:06have all words combined in 1. Yeah. It's...
- 15:10That process to development is certainly something that.
- 15:13I think we... So off we just look
- 15:14at the know, we look at the end.
- 15:16We look at the branches of the tree
- 15:17versus, like, you know, everything else that makes
- 15:20that up. And so that leads me to.
- 15:22I I know you've had a lot of
- 15:24you know, influences,
- 15:25mentors,
- 15:26people that have influenced where you've landed now.
- 15:28I think we even talked a little bit
- 15:30before we push record. We I... You said
- 15:32you're someone an integrator, And I feel like
- 15:34I am in many ways too as well,
- 15:36Like, someone who takes ideas and and then
- 15:39I I guess we all are. You know,
- 15:40maybe versus people who just have an idea
- 15:42that's out of nowhere or What is this,
- 15:43you know, in this totally new way of
- 15:45thinking. But I'm really curious of of who
- 15:47some of the strong
- 15:49influences that you've had that have formulated the
- 15:51way that you look at training.
- 15:54You, the the tipping point of my my
- 15:57way of of having a chance to be
- 15:59influenced by great mine was meeting you, and
- 16:01we were just trying to to recall was
- 16:04a 20 15 or 20 16 plus minus
- 16:07that was 1 of the earliest truck football
- 16:09construction run by by Chris and Tony, in
- 16:11Chicago where we met in person. You and
- 16:14me. I had a chance.
- 16:15And a pleasure to be in the in
- 16:17the in the audio where you presented your
- 16:19idea. And after that, I I approached to
- 16:21you and
- 16:22and ask you about this this guy from
- 16:25from, you know, from San Francisco Area, Woodland
- 16:28back then.
- 16:30That there's the there's the genius around you.
- 16:32And I know you have some connections, just
- 16:35can you explain something about about him. And
- 16:38I was asking about a Da bar at
- 16:40that point and you said no.
- 16:42Just don't don't don't don't try to find
- 16:44a middle just
- 16:46sit on a plane and just go visit
- 16:48and and you need your own experience and
- 16:50that's what I did and
- 16:52absolutely the tipping point of of of me
- 16:55building my experience of
- 16:58being influence kind of thing. And so definitely
- 17:01a da bond. Then I had
- 17:04I had the pleasure to meet Randy Huntington
- 17:06in person. So that was I was I
- 17:08was following his
- 17:10his work for for many years and, you
- 17:12know, it's late eighties,
- 17:14and
- 17:15there was 20 19. I was in there
- 17:18was the world championships in in in Doha
- 17:20Ka.
- 17:21So
- 17:23And the funny thing is that the the
- 17:25the the the world championships in Doha. They
- 17:28were not covered by any tv in in
- 17:30Doha.
- 17:32For biden ton no reason that I I
- 17:34think that there could have been some...
- 17:37The female body exposure, things like that, which
- 17:40couldn't have been presented on Tv anyways. There
- 17:42was the the the the championships sits are
- 17:44the or absolutely great event. But
- 17:47we we were not spending, you know, the
- 17:49whole day long and in the stadium.
- 17:52So
- 17:53I was lucky that the Polish national team
- 17:55and I think the Canadians and and the
- 17:58Back in China was was based in 1
- 18:00hotel.
- 18:01And at the lobby of our hotel, that
- 18:02was a starbucks. So where everybody was paying
- 18:05in the whole days because I was, you
- 18:07know, a good coffee and good air condition.
- 18:09And at some point, at some point, I'm
- 18:11I'm watching my
- 18:12some polish revision coverage of the games that
- 18:14is is happening, you know, across the block.
- 18:18And there's this guy sitting, hey, Can I
- 18:19can I join you because there's is the
- 18:21there's a female high jump, and and you
- 18:23have the the the Tv coverage on your
- 18:25ipad And can I join with the coffee?
- 18:27I'm, you know, I'm I'm looking up and
- 18:28there's hand the Huntington and as store. God.
- 18:32Tango god, I had my ipad with me.
- 18:34So definitely
- 18:35Around around this
- 18:37work.
- 18:39Who you explode into very details over number
- 18:41of of chats with him definitely.
- 18:45So it was a short direct work with
- 18:47with him, III could have have some discussions
- 18:50back then,
- 18:51definitely Jerome Simeon.
- 18:53That was also,
- 18:56a very important person for me. We we
- 18:58we were in touch, somehow and again, 20
- 19:0019 door. I was like a what what
- 19:02was like a... It's important moment for me
- 19:04to be there and and and Jerome Simeon
- 19:06was like a link between the...
- 19:09He's 1 of the person who really...
- 19:12Explore deeply in and and and and into
- 19:15Jay Sc work. And now basically there's Chris
- 19:17Cor who I visited him a number of
- 19:19of times. So he's
- 19:22his famous basement.
- 19:24Mh. Trend facility at his house, it's that's
- 19:271 in life. Lifetime I'm experienced to spend
- 19:30Some diane. I I enjoyed a lot. So
- 19:32I always... I tried a couple of times.
- 19:34IIII
- 19:35went to to today event truck food football
- 19:37or ans then I I usually spent. Like,
- 19:40a week or 2 either of either spending
- 19:42with Tommy Holler at his at his...
- 19:45I'm I'm not sure if he's, still active
- 19:47or or he retire as a as a
- 19:49chemistry coach, but anyway, he he. So I
- 19:51spent, like, a week week or 2 with
- 19:53Tony and he's
- 19:55at his high school and and and the
- 19:57evening every evening with
- 19:59with Chris Cor at his basement. So and
- 20:01we're in touch since. So over the years
- 20:03we Wear touch. And
- 20:06definitely, there was some some coaches who helped
- 20:08me a lot of the was also
- 20:10Vince Anderson,
- 20:11especially on the whole and the and the
- 20:13rhythm moon like the the the holding rhythm
- 20:17between the headless was like, we we we
- 20:19were touch and there were really, really
- 20:22interesting
- 20:23conversation we had over the years and and
- 20:25he opened my mind.
- 20:27Into specifically, you know, to train the rhythm
- 20:29in in between hurdles. You know, Vince anderson
- 20:31son and, last but not least absolutely,
- 20:35you know, So so I'm sure we'll touch
- 20:37this into little details
- 20:39a bit further, but definitely, Alex, at some
- 20:42point of my coaching development was. Was was
- 20:45a very important person.
- 20:46I mentioned Dr Sc never had a chance
- 20:48to really
- 20:50get into
- 20:51close
- 20:52from those who I never had a chance
- 20:54to meet since they passed away before I
- 20:56even try your absolutely Charlie Francis that he's
- 20:59a approach and
- 21:01into into sprint training and the yearly programming,
- 21:05huge influence
- 21:06influence over from his work and
- 21:08And there's also 1 coach. I want I
- 21:11want to mention there's there's been a genius
- 21:13coach even in Poland. He passed away, like,
- 21:15I think.
- 21:1720
- 21:1810 or something like that before I even
- 21:20get into
- 21:22into hurt coaching at at at 11 was
- 21:25Chap.
- 21:26It was he was the guy who in
- 21:28the early eighties, Poland Female holding was absolutely
- 21:32like like a powerhouse. There was a polish
- 21:34female heard.
- 21:36Were setting word records
- 21:38in the early eighties, and he was like
- 21:40a, like a decades
- 21:42above
- 21:43ahead of of his times.
- 21:45So
- 21:46I was able to to get into... It
- 21:48was not easy because
- 21:50almost nothing is been published online. Since he
- 21:53passed away before the
- 21:55before before the, you know, Google Youtube and
- 21:58stuff like that. He didn't publish too much,
- 22:00you know, real research. So I was sitting
- 22:02spending hours.
- 22:03The old school, you know, I'm I'm I'm
- 22:04I'm 50 years old. So it was... For
- 22:06me, it was normal. So I had to
- 22:07spend hours and the library. I was actually
- 22:10traveling across Poland because there was 1 university
- 22:13and and and in 1 city who... I
- 22:15knew I checked, they had, like, a 1
- 22:18article
- 22:19written by him. Then I traveled across the
- 22:21country to another city and and and so
- 22:23on out. So I was able to get
- 22:25in touch with his widow and she
- 22:27she she showed me his Phd on on...
- 22:30That never been published because he passed away
- 22:32just before she was able to publish and
- 22:35and and to really go into beaches, and
- 22:37I was able to explore his notes. His
- 22:39he's like, first, you know, training journals and
- 22:42and stuff like that, but I never met
- 22:44this guy in person, but absolutely my my
- 22:48approach to to
- 22:50elite level hurt.
- 22:52It's got nothing to do with what we
- 22:54discussed at the beginning about my daughter, but
- 22:55a elite level hardening, absolute. So so there
- 22:58was the genius guy who un for the
- 23:01unfortunately passed away too early like charlie f,
- 23:03by the way, same same store. So those
- 23:06those will be the the guys and maybe
- 23:09the john God
- 23:11john God but
- 23:13we get into it. Yeah. Yeah. For sure.
- 23:16So looking at, you've obviously... You've had so
- 23:19many mentors and and collected from so many
- 23:23different coaches and systems.
- 23:25I think a good place to start is
- 23:27is the dairy and bars work. And just
- 23:29because I think so many of his ideas
- 23:31run or or seemingly, I guess, run counter
- 23:34do a lot of what is coached. And
- 23:36I'm curious to some of the main things
- 23:37that you took from him that you integrate
- 23:39with their athletes and how... And your lens
- 23:41of how to introduce it to them. Out
- 23:43to that for them to experience it.
- 23:46Yeah. The the introduction part, it's key. Because
- 23:49at the end of the year end, I'm
- 23:50not just, you know, f philosopher I'm not
- 23:52the researcher.
- 23:53I mean, know,
- 23:55my daily job is is is coaching. So
- 23:57I need to find a way how to
- 23:58coach, you know, 17 years old.
- 24:01Do or or 20 something years old, they
- 24:03they
- 24:04it must be simple for them to to
- 24:07really appreciate that. But
- 24:09but the
- 24:11simplifying what I... Like I mentioned, I started
- 24:13with Ada dorian. Like, he he was like
- 24:15the the the
- 24:18things flipped in my my brain a lot
- 24:21and and
- 24:22I'm happy that I kind of started my
- 24:24journey with Ada, and then then then looking
- 24:27into other great coaches was already true
- 24:32through a variance perspective
- 24:34which I think is the is the the
- 24:37best I could I could get gained through.
- 24:40So
- 24:42absolutely, Ada da made me understand levers.
- 24:45That's that's probably no surprise
- 24:48to you, but he made me understand how
- 24:51lovers work in human body, not not only
- 24:54in sprint, but definitely, the the the the
- 24:57levers is something that did
- 24:59nature creator the creator
- 25:02creative for us to make our life easier.
- 25:05Simple as that,
- 25:07So
- 25:08whenever I'm looking at the at the humans
- 25:10human body in motion, I'm always looking through
- 25:13levers perspective, and it doesn't matter if it's
- 25:15sprint.
- 25:16If it's hurt, if it's, you know, soccer
- 25:19player speech training or just
- 25:21he's his motion across the field or is
- 25:24it like a speed climbing that I'm I'm
- 25:26also involved at the, you know, elite level,
- 25:29olympic level.
- 25:31So
- 25:32I'm looking at the motion through through lever.
- 25:34So that was the the the 1 big
- 25:36thing. We we don't need to go into
- 25:38into very details. I I think if if
- 25:40I can provide a value to whoever is
- 25:43going to
- 25:45to listen to our conversation,
- 25:47explore levers and they role in human about
- 25:49this motion. So that would be that would
- 25:52be number 1 and and
- 25:55step 2, exploring Ada
- 25:58approach to to now a little bit more
- 26:00into sprint would be
- 26:02I moved away from
- 26:03horizontal
- 26:04versus vertical First application.
- 26:07Okay? I moved away away from the...
- 26:11From the, you know, spring
- 26:13spring model into angular momentum.
- 26:16Your body is not over aware if if
- 26:19what's the what's the angle of of force
- 26:21application? If it's vertical it's horizontal,
- 26:24whereas the drive phase where the... Where where
- 26:27where things change from horizontal and 2 verticals.
- 26:30So your body is not aware of that,
- 26:32but your body is aware of of of
- 26:34angular momentum,
- 26:35and that's the real engine that we have.
- 26:38So
- 26:40what's the... After after understanding levers and shimmer
- 26:44body? I'm I'm looking into... What where where
- 26:46the engine is and the engine is angular
- 26:48your momentum
- 26:49that you can create.
- 26:51So
- 26:53it's not easy to cover too much details
- 26:55you when when this is an audio recording,
- 26:58not the not, you know, not the cleaning
- 27:00or or training session or or or or
- 27:02or video.
- 27:03But if if I'm if I'm to 0.2
- 27:07most important things, I I learned from Ada
- 27:09guardian would be those too. And, of course,
- 27:11this quarter running and the then the machine
- 27:14angles change over
- 27:15over the the
- 27:17steps too etcetera that, this this would be
- 27:19the consequences of of me looking at the
- 27:21at the human
- 27:23body and motion through levers and
- 27:25specifically in sprint through, and your momentum
- 27:29being the being the the the the main
- 27:31driver, of what's actually
- 27:34happening on the on the track because
- 27:37after you you made your limb
- 27:40hit the ground already. There's not much you
- 27:42can do any further. But the the magic
- 27:45happened before. You actually hit the ground. So
- 27:47that's why the angular momentum
- 27:50is is so important for me to looking
- 27:52at the
- 27:54at the sprinter
- 27:55motion.
- 27:56So Yeah. I think with something like with
- 27:59Ad da
- 28:00teachings and the idea of a squat run,
- 28:02I think that there is...
- 28:05Like, a lot of people would look at
- 28:06that only through the window of,
- 28:09like, vertical force and force production. Like, that's
- 28:12And it... It's interesting to think about why
- 28:14that is the dominant
- 28:15way people look at sprint.
- 28:17The very...
- 28:18It's like that is the the holy grail.
- 28:20That's how people look at it.
- 28:22But squat running works in my opinion because
- 28:25of angular momentum.
- 28:27And people feel it. Because of angular momentum...
- 28:30You you're... Before we got on the call
- 28:32you're mentioning a little bit about how you
- 28:34help athletes to feel that. I really curious
- 28:36you explain a little bit more about that
- 28:38anecdote.
- 28:39Oh absolutely that. I think I'm
- 28:41I think I can be brave enough to
- 28:43to mention, I think I'm the only Cog
- 28:44Poland who's actually exploring this. Quarter run because
- 28:47I haven't seen If if I'm wrong then
- 28:49then then then, of course, apologize. But
- 28:52but
- 28:53the quarter run,
- 28:55actually allows the athlete to explore bot and
- 28:59the what's what's what's
- 29:02how how to feel the angular momentum they
- 29:05can create
- 29:06and what's going on in in terms of
- 29:10of levers and I'll step back
- 29:13to to to the forces, Okay? To applying
- 29:15forces. Sure. We we're we are applying the
- 29:18forces, But what levers gives you. Gives you
- 29:20a chance to utilize the force with the
- 29:24the easiest way possible. So
- 29:27if you understand levers, then makes your life
- 29:31simply easier. And the way the way I
- 29:33use squat run which is absolutely
- 29:351 of the number 1 drills from you,
- 29:38which to be very honest. I'm I'm absolutely
- 29:41extremely limited on on the drills that I
- 29:44apply.
- 29:45So I always do a quarter drum that
- 29:47always bleeds into relaxed printing. So I'm, this
- 29:51is not like a base for like a
- 29:52top end speed training.
- 29:54So,
- 29:55it's it's just for the feeling. So when
- 29:58when I hold the athlete to run fast
- 30:00to sprint fairly fast and it's what position
- 30:03over 30 40 meters, and then I want
- 30:05him to gradually
- 30:07bleed into into spring over the next 10:50
- 30:10meters
- 30:11then he appreciate
- 30:13the benefits of this of this kind of
- 30:18task at the beginning position, but but after
- 30:21after he... The the the the comments from
- 30:24at, I get, they feel like they've been
- 30:26released from a leash.
- 30:28So when when when I work with my
- 30:29dog, I I have, like, a small muscular,
- 30:32sprinter type dogs like I.
- 30:35I I'm a happy owner of of 2
- 30:36pit bulls. So
- 30:38when when when I walk my dock, and
- 30:40he's trying to release from the
- 30:43from the leash, and I'm I'm not making
- 30:45this happen. So basically, he's walking in a
- 30:48squat position. The moment I released the leash
- 30:51when there's, of course, AAA safety environment to
- 30:54do that, then from from the squat position,
- 30:57he's gradually
- 30:59getting into top end position, Of course, in
- 31:01the in the in in his work. And
- 31:05but this exact common I'm getting from my
- 31:08sprinter. They they're feeling like being released from
- 31:11the from lesion and we do it all
- 31:13the around all around.
- 31:15Yeah. That's 1 of those things too where
- 31:17so much of coaching, just like back to
- 31:18the hurt.
- 31:19A lot of things that are in the
- 31:21air If an athletes in the air and
- 31:23they don't have a lot of sensory feedback
- 31:26necessarily outside of whatever internal timing they've learned
- 31:28to recognize in their body.
- 31:30They might start to become reliant on a
- 31:31coach. And I feel like so often sprint.
- 31:33It's like, it's in the air, and the
- 31:34coach says, put your knee in arm here
- 31:36and and focus on this and it's it's
- 31:38not something they really feel.
- 31:40But when you squat down a little bit
- 31:42and you have a little bit of a
- 31:43prolonged contact time, which again, you you're gonna
- 31:45get out of it in sprint normally like
- 31:46you said to bleed. It's a it's a
- 31:48sensory experience
- 31:49into, how did you use that extra sensation,
- 31:52how did you use that large angular sweep?
- 31:54It gives more... The same way I think
- 31:56we talk about, well, hey, and Athlete isn't
- 31:59sensing enough in the squat, So I'll put
- 32:00him on the ground. Like, you know, I
- 32:02give more points in contact.
- 32:04It's it's this thing that allows
- 32:06those that that gather... It allows more feeling,
- 32:09gathering feelings of angular motion, and then they
- 32:11can use it and it's so much more
- 32:13clean than well, hey, just go do these
- 32:15things in the air. Of course, you should
- 32:17be able to do these things in the
- 32:18air. It it's very, it just allows athletes
- 32:20to do that and recognize it. Yeah. Absolutely.
- 32:23And and when there's
- 32:25right now when we're recording, there's the the
- 32:28there are 2 2 huge sporting events going
- 32:31on this summer in in Europe. There... Now
- 32:33there's European
- 32:35soccer championships,
- 32:36Held in Germany and and there's the the
- 32:38summer Olympic games and and Paris and about
- 32:41the month.
- 32:42So I'm I'm watching, you know, because of
- 32:44the every Tv coverage is now about about
- 32:47the the the Europe... The the euro. The
- 32:49the super euro. So... And I'm watching that
- 32:51the
- 32:52and the thanks to to super high quality
- 32:55Tv cover. Now, we can really look at
- 32:58the real close up and slow and, you
- 33:00know, the drones flying above the players, etcetera,
- 33:03so which if you've really want to explore,
- 33:06explore and see and witness, I witness the
- 33:08the
- 33:10the fastest soccer players, there are absolutely
- 33:13quarter runners. Mh. And and, you know, there...
- 33:17It has got nothing to do to to
- 33:19making, you know, soccer players run about running
- 33:22weekends or or world drills
- 33:24No. Just let them be a squad rather,
- 33:27don't try to change it. And and the
- 33:28fastest
- 33:29soccer players on the feeling like the the
- 33:31the position, like, you know, the the the
- 33:33the wings or or those who cover, like,
- 33:3840 50 plus meters, which is
- 33:41which which which isn't not that common and
- 33:43talk about when they do it, you can
- 33:45really see how how the their bodies are
- 33:48resolving the the
- 33:51the task, which has been fast on the
- 33:52field on a soft field.
- 33:55Yeah. It's problem solving. It's a good athlete
- 33:58will find a way to problem solve. And
- 33:59I think that We can learn a lot
- 34:01from watching that versus assuming all athletes should
- 34:04run like a track sprinter on a track
- 34:06surface, straight ahead with no. Per or interruptions
- 34:09or anything like that. Yeah. But to be
- 34:12even honest, like, I had this idea that
- 34:14I'm trying to, you know... Spread across poland
- 34:16here and and our train training community, like
- 34:18a coaches come Ps and c coaches and
- 34:21football coaches that when when you look into,
- 34:23like, a read
- 34:24bread and butter. There's a lot less difference
- 34:27between the the the the sprinter on a
- 34:29track, and the and the fast soccer players
- 34:32on the on the field, the difference is
- 34:33the the the forces between the... Actually the
- 34:37shoe, the the the food and the trap.
- 34:38That's that's obvious because we have, like, a...
- 34:41A synthetic truck versus versus soft soft soft
- 34:47carved grass whatever you. The field,
- 34:50itself. So... But but when you look at
- 34:52the...
- 34:53Where's the optimum
- 34:55of the of the border
- 34:57we're begging into levers and we're begging into
- 34:59angular momentum. So it's got nothing to do
- 35:02about, you know, high knees or or force
- 35:04application if it's more horizontal more vertical.
- 35:08Yeah.
- 35:09Yeah. I think that there's a huge amount
- 35:11of difference between sprint on turf versus
- 35:14sprint out a bouncing track surface. And even
- 35:17I think people would look at squat running
- 35:18too and think of it more on the
- 35:20level of.
- 35:22I'm not even sure almost as if it's...
- 35:24Something it's gonna cause you to pull your
- 35:26ham or not bounce very well or something
- 35:28like that. But... In reality you watch these
- 35:30at soccer players especially running.
- 35:33With the a slightly squat center of mass,
- 35:35the timing is I think what ties it
- 35:38together because the limbs and the way everything's
- 35:39being timed up is so good. And I
- 35:42think if you told
- 35:44a track Athlete who's used to doing tracked,
- 35:46To run squat and the timing was awfully.
- 35:48Yeah, that would be a bad thing. But
- 35:50naturally, our timing is good and it's on
- 35:51and it's it's adapting to our environment, and
- 35:54it's almost like back even the hurt... This
- 35:55is why I, like, like, leading with the
- 35:56hurt and the rhythm piece because like, if
- 35:58the rhythms there and the timing there, and
- 36:00yeah and you're adapting to a problem, like
- 36:02variable hurdles or players or things to deal
- 36:05with. The end result gonna be pretty natural,
- 36:08and it's gonna be something that
- 36:10is... Yeah, just again, you adapting to your
- 36:12environment. And that's why I I've said it
- 36:13before, but I raise it tricks me watching
- 36:15people warm, like soccer players up with all
- 36:18the high knees and the hands overhead and
- 36:19all that stuff. And then they'll go from
- 36:21that and the players will to start playing
- 36:22and then everything just changes instantly. Lo and
- 36:25squad it and yeah it's. It's like absolutely.
- 36:28Absolutely to the point. And now we just
- 36:30also meant, I mean, you you
- 36:32you made me now think about something. The
- 36:34the moment I introduced into my sprinter or
- 36:37whoever new
- 36:38John Mango My my level is, like, just
- 36:41just to give even an overview, like, the
- 36:42the the my my fastest hundred meters like
- 36:45the
- 36:4610 twenties.
- 36:48Over a hundred meters like my my my
- 36:51fastest 60 meter indoor printer, like the 06:60,
- 36:54which is like, a European high level of
- 36:57printing already and, like, the the 20 forties
- 37:01over 200 meters. So Whenever I introduce the
- 37:04the this, you know squad running into my
- 37:07group, I have introduced in the past or
- 37:09I introduced into an news printer that joins
- 37:11my group,
- 37:14then the the timing is off in the
- 37:16beginning quite often. But once they gradually,
- 37:20get into the right timing what you have
- 37:21just point out into quarter running. Then the
- 37:24timing, they they are able to maintain the
- 37:26timing,
- 37:27over the whole distance when when they bleed
- 37:29into sprint and and and and a continue
- 37:31and maintain. That's a great timing. That's a
- 37:34great timing tool should you just open my
- 37:36eyes into what I do, but I I
- 37:38never I I never thought of that like
- 37:40that. Thank you. Oh, yeah. Like, I I
- 37:42appreciate the anecdote and the thoughts from your.
- 37:44And of things. I was thinking just about
- 37:46Bobby White was on the podcast basketball coach
- 37:49and sports performance and he talks a lot
- 37:51about pushing athletes to the edge of their
- 37:52ability and
- 37:53Even though, like Chris Cor, his edge of
- 37:55the ability off often a very coordination demand.
- 37:58It's not like just force. There's a lot
- 38:00of cognitive.
- 38:02Demand to push that edge. And I think
- 38:04once you take, I guess you could call
- 38:06taking the red pill of timing
- 38:08and levers
- 38:09But once you get to that place of
- 38:11timing, It's like, how how do I challenge
- 38:13your timing now? How do I have a
- 38:15workout that challenges that?
- 38:16And it's not like,
- 38:18Okay. We'll just do this and, you know,
- 38:20keep your limbs in this position type thing.
- 38:22And and I find when you can challenge
- 38:23timing, you can almost change from the inside
- 38:26out in a way. Like, everything else will
- 38:27follow suit. Your fast twitch in your nervous
- 38:29system, everything... Like, athletes love that because it's
- 38:32kinda like
- 38:33dance speed challenge
- 38:35and you're wired for it. And that's what
- 38:37dynamic systems do. That's what dynamic systems do,
- 38:40and we're not we're not. Complicated system which
- 38:43would be a car or or like a,
- 38:45like a, you know, and a product of
- 38:47engineers. We are dynamic systems, and we adopt.
- 38:50So this is what do be capable of
- 38:52doing. That's why, you know, by Robot would
- 38:55not benefit anything from Squat.
- 38:58If it's it is not been programmed in
- 39:00advance by then by the designers legend engineer.
- 39:03Yeah. I think that isn't the title for
- 39:05that. It's like complicated.
- 39:07Like, a car would be complicated, but we
- 39:09are complex complex. Right? Yes. Yes. Yes.
- 39:12That's the difference. So so the the... In
- 39:15in in complicated system, everything has has been
- 39:18designed. The only
- 39:19combination of of parts getting into relation everything
- 39:22has to be pre pre program. It's like
- 39:24a product of of there's a blueprint for
- 39:27for an emotion that's that's possible. If if
- 39:30anything in the car goes out of the
- 39:32blueprint it breaks simply
- 39:34versus complex
- 39:36systems like we are we adopt.
- 39:39Yeah. And, yeah, and that changes everything. And
- 39:41it really expands
- 39:42the number of things that we ingredients or
- 39:45the the factors we can look at.
- 39:47At which which makes coaching a lot of
- 39:49fun too. Oh, yes.
- 39:52Does. You mentioned Peter, you, jerome simeon. Spending
- 39:56time with him and, of course, you Jay
- 39:57Sc and, hey. I I the question I
- 40:00always ask her it comes to my mind
- 40:02with those types of things is alright. 5
- 40:05minute lunch. 5 minute iso saw lunch. 5
- 40:07minutes, 2 minutes.
- 40:09Lunch was electrical
- 40:10stimulation on, Like, where where we landed?
- 40:13I tried those. I I tried them all.
- 40:15I tried them all with, you know, electrodes
- 40:17on my on my glues and my ham
- 40:19on my everything.
- 40:20So I have this this, but I think
- 40:23like, a slightly about 23 minutes was was
- 40:26all I was capable of doing. But you
- 40:29know, this type of, like, a a fairly
- 40:31pure j shredder stuff, you know,
- 40:34this is what I do first thing in
- 40:36the in the fall.
- 40:38What 1 of the thing that 1 of
- 40:40things that III
- 40:42really
- 40:43pay attention to is a long vacations for
- 40:46my sprinter.
- 40:47So
- 40:48we are just done with the nationals 2
- 40:49we get 2 weeks ago where I had,
- 40:51like, you know,
- 40:52fairly, you know the whole bunch of medals
- 40:55and and and final positions.
- 40:58So the... This week,
- 41:00we still have under 23
- 41:02nationals.
- 41:03This is the equivalent in Europe. It's it's
- 41:05it's it doesn't really exist in the U
- 41:07Us because there's the European idea of the
- 41:09of the nationals and and the pan pan
- 41:11European
- 41:13track events in the under 23 category, but
- 41:16it's a pure equivalent of Nc
- 41:19because
- 41:20but when you plus mine was look at
- 41:22the at the athletes age, so this under
- 41:2423 category. So this week I'm... I'm I'm
- 41:27I'm having the under 23 nationals. And from
- 41:31that point, it's like
- 41:332 and a half until 3 months of
- 41:36complete vacations for for my sprinter. And I'm
- 41:39happy when we when we finish the season
- 41:41with the personal best and the and the
- 41:43healthy. No injuries is not nothing. So
- 41:46So that's the moment we know step of
- 41:48the stage and the in the in the
- 41:49peak performance state.
- 41:52So that's that's always very important for me
- 41:54to to to to stop the season when
- 41:57when about it is it's it's a peak
- 41:59shape,
- 42:00then the long vacations. But then when we
- 42:02pick up in the in the fall,
- 42:04the body kind of knows where we are
- 42:07heading to, to the peak form that that
- 42:09that we... That we were in the peak
- 42:11peak shape we were in 3 months ago.
- 42:14And getting back to Jay Shredder, because that
- 42:16was your your your... Question. The maybe 2
- 42:20up to 3 weeks of of breaking those,
- 42:23you know, summer vacation modem and habits,
- 42:27we go extremely through jay shredder
- 42:30ideas. So we go through the longest eyes
- 42:32or long duration iso, we can make that
- 42:34it's a lot of fun.
- 42:36Especially with the guys. We we're in the
- 42:38group, we challenge
- 42:40each other. So so I have this 1
- 42:43crazy guy, my my my strongest 60 meter.
- 42:45Who is like, nobody can beat him in
- 42:48in long duration iso.
- 42:50Also, like, 3 3 and a half for...
- 42:53For me he can easily do it. But
- 42:55the thing that really grinds us down into
- 42:58into the extreme are the super slow.
- 43:01Super slow is is is really something we
- 43:03have a lot of on, but
- 43:06how I look at those,
- 43:08it's maybe not necessary the, you know, this
- 43:12pure sprint capabilities that that I'm trying to
- 43:15develop over those
- 43:17let's say, 2 weeks of upstream
- 43:20extreme iso,
- 43:22extreme long duration iso and and combined with
- 43:24the with
- 43:27huge volume of of easy rebound, you know,
- 43:30with those
- 43:32throwing and patching and and those super slow,
- 43:34everything from dress shredded
- 43:36shredder system,
- 43:38quite often combined with
- 43:41neuro
- 43:42stimulation,
- 43:44Rs sq 1 is the European
- 43:46system that kind of follows the step of
- 43:48of Arp way. So for me, it's like
- 43:51a
- 43:52we are we are grinding and rebuilding the
- 43:54tissues. That's that's that's how I see, then
- 43:57that's the idea so we just...
- 43:59We we were able to over overdose
- 44:01period of time. Our our our... My goal
- 44:04is like the plastic of the tissues. So
- 44:07if there's anything in the border that needs
- 44:09to be, you know, some scar t show,
- 44:11anything like that anything that needs to be
- 44:13to be cleared off.
- 44:14This is the beginning of of our training
- 44:17training fault training, just just getting your tissues
- 44:21into the extreme.
- 44:23So if there are any weak points we
- 44:25cleared them out. That's the idea behind. I
- 44:28can't tell you, you know, Probably nobody can
- 44:30tell you.
- 44:31What's actually going on and what what's actually
- 44:34what where the magic is
- 44:36behind, you know, 5 minutes,
- 44:385 minutes
- 44:40iso lunch,
- 44:42but but this is how I look into
- 44:44it, and this is how I incorporated this
- 44:46into my system because I can only say,
- 44:49what is the place for for this particular
- 44:52modality into... In in my system.
- 44:54So that's that's That's how I use. And
- 44:56then, of course, gradually, we we move away
- 44:58from from such an extreme approach because in
- 45:01high level sprint training,
- 45:03you need to find a the right amount
- 45:06of everything and the too much of something
- 45:08would not be the the right approach further
- 45:11on.

- 45:38testing and training device, the P mat. If
- 45:41you want a jump mat that can not
- 45:42only get standard counter movement jumps and reactive
- 45:45jumps, but also is something you can put
- 45:47into your standard biometric training such as hurdle
- 45:50hops and bounds to gather, not only height,
- 45:52but reactive strength, contact time and add that
- 45:55extra dynamic to your total training session, then
- 45:58check out the P mat and you can
- 45:59head to p mat dot net that's PLY0MAT
- 46:03dot net to learn more.
- 46:06Yeah. It's interesting that the...
- 46:08You said the 60 meter sprinter who was
- 46:12the 1 who would do the best that
- 46:13the long holds because I think in some
- 46:15ways that do would the first thought. I'm
- 46:17sure a lot of people would how would
- 46:18be well.
- 46:19Isn't that a fast switch person? It's slow
- 46:21twitch, but it's like, if it's must he's
- 46:23a muscular person and an and competitive and
- 46:25intense. It's so interesting to be how I
- 46:27think the mental slow wiring of some people
- 46:30can really work its way into those types
- 46:32of things. Yeah. I think also, you know,
- 46:35he's he's he's
- 46:36his engine.
- 46:38Is is the muscle. You know, He's the
- 46:40the wide
- 46:42the wide Dia type. Yeah. Is the 1.
- 46:46He's the 1. So he's... The muscle is
- 46:48his engine. So I think that's for for
- 46:51the reason he tries on that. So he
- 46:53tries on the and form of
- 46:55customization. He tries on super long duration eyes.
- 46:58So
- 46:59strong
- 47:00muscle stimulation is is his driver.
- 47:04So probably for that the reason,
- 47:06I mean, in in this, you know, short
- 47:08short extreme
- 47:10extreme stuff from from Jay Shredder, he he
- 47:12he drives. But then over the season,
- 47:17with with an roi iso so
- 47:21type guys dudes, I'm looking a lot more
- 47:24into
- 47:25elasticity
- 47:26driven
- 47:27strength training. And in his case, it's a
- 47:30lot more
- 47:31strong concentric
- 47:33old school engine. Of course, I do it
- 47:35I do it. I try to do it
- 47:37in a smart way. You know. I'm I'm
- 47:39I'm a huge
- 47:40proponent and a huge fan of of of
- 47:42Kaiser.
- 47:43So 1 of the,
- 47:45you know, after
- 47:46after the couple coffee spend, III had spent
- 47:48with with Randy handing on 20 19 Though
- 47:52mentioned, and the starbucks at at our hot
- 47:55hotel lobby. So few months later I already
- 47:58had, you know,
- 48:00I already had Kaiser squad machine at my
- 48:02gym because I run my my my my
- 48:03own gym which is like a
- 48:05like a very specific place,
- 48:08slightly inspired by Chris Cor.
- 48:10So he's the he's the he's the
- 48:14concentric court... Contraction type of deal. And he's
- 48:17super strong, super dynamic and the and
- 48:21his dream always was to to to beat
- 48:23the
- 48:24results in Ky, and he does it. You
- 48:27know, as far as I could explore Sub
- 48:29ton results, it is over the, you know,
- 48:31show youtube videos or something. So,
- 48:33So we're trying to sometimes we try to
- 48:36just replicate the the the sub tan execution
- 48:39on Kaiser and might do this stronger. So
- 48:41that that... That's the thing. And
- 48:43versus the the the narrow
- 48:46type of guys where I'm looking a lot
- 48:48more os
- 48:49isometric type of training and which we do
- 48:52with the bottom the back mostly. I sent
- 48:54you, like, a couple months ago, for crazy
- 48:57video,
- 48:58I... We can we can explore this further
- 49:00in in a moment and also Kaiser machine.
- 49:03So I'm I'm finding those those very short
- 49:05us
- 49:07motions and
- 49:08been under, know, Kaiser Squad. You know, the
- 49:12the compressed area, it's
- 49:15It's absolutely
- 49:16like a like a cornerstone of of of
- 49:19my strength training programming to true whatever
- 49:22population, I'm working with soccer players.
- 49:25Hand hand female hand spray, speed climber and,
- 49:28of course, my sprinter and hand hardware. So
- 49:30if there's 1 piece of equipment that I
- 49:32couldn't live with it would definitely be the
- 49:35Kaiser squad machine. So here on that, I'm
- 49:37I'm
- 49:38on the same side as as as randy
- 49:40handing ton.
- 49:42Yeah. So, yeah, let's dig into that just
- 49:44a little bit more. And so you mentioned
- 49:46for a more muscular or a wide Type.
- 49:49They're doing more more typical squat jumps on
- 49:52the Kaiser machine versus a narrow is gonna
- 49:55be doing a lot more a relatively more
- 49:57oscillator reps like quick up and downs.
- 49:59And and yes I what bring range too,
- 50:02like, a like, a Yes. Half for full,
- 50:04you know, quarter squad there. Yeah. III
- 50:07you know, with the c Kaiser squad. You
- 50:10know, I I cannot
- 50:12I cannot remove
- 50:13any of those completely from anybody. So the
- 50:16narrow guy, I still have to do some,
- 50:18you know, some powerhouse
- 50:20concentric motion through heap extension. Simple and the
- 50:24the guy who tries on.
- 50:26If if there's a word championships where you
- 50:28where you sprint
- 50:30of a 60 meters with the
- 50:32with a heavy slide behind you. I'd put
- 50:35all my money on this guy.
- 50:37You know? So last we judge ja an
- 50:40Anecdote and I'll get back to your question,
- 50:41just an luck. 2 weeks ago, we had
- 50:43the nationals. And there was there was a
- 50:45horrible, like, 5, 5 meters, 5, 6 meters
- 50:48headwind.
- 50:50No a disaster for for hundred meters final.
- 50:54And this duke thrived. So he
- 50:58he was able to to push cells against
- 51:00the strong wind. He took finally fourth place
- 51:03and the
- 51:04slightly missing. There were thousands of seconds. He
- 51:06is the the the bronze medal. And if
- 51:08he was like A99
- 51:09hundred of a second
- 51:11to to to to the first place.
- 51:14But but he was able to try against
- 51:16really, really
- 51:17strong
- 51:18headwind.
- 51:20So getting into into the luck with the...
- 51:23Kaiser gives you tons of options, you know,
- 51:25you can you can
- 51:27you can do the very lasting motions where
- 51:30worse a tons of...
- 51:31Very fast eccentric involved. You know, because we
- 51:34we we... In the And C community, we
- 51:36can we can discuss the the the all
- 51:38the benefits of of
- 51:40you know,
- 51:42supra maximum centric
- 51:44strength training. But I'm not really interested in
- 51:46the supra maximum. I'm interested in the super
- 51:49fast
- 51:50external and so eccentric training. Trend training and
- 51:53this... IIII...
- 51:56Their details work over by by Randy Huntington
- 51:59and 1 1 of your charts definitely. So
- 52:02so this
- 52:04elastic based
- 52:08pumping type of action. The benefit is the
- 52:11super fast eccentric
- 52:13piece
- 52:14of movement.
- 52:16What I... What what what's the what's the
- 52:19word where my my super strong 60 meter
- 52:22duke drives?
- 52:23And is the thing that,
- 52:26Kaiser squad
- 52:28the the the the
- 52:29step pads. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. You. Let let's
- 52:31make the path. So I said that at
- 52:33the at the certain level, It's it's it's
- 52:35it's it's important for me what
- 52:39this this particular trend training is is... Is
- 52:42has been applied into. Like, let's say we
- 52:45did the the if the goal of the
- 52:47sprint training was the the blocks,
- 52:49then we are in the knee angles
- 52:53kind of closer to to to or like
- 52:55first 2 3 steps.
- 52:57Clearing the blocks. So then I said the
- 52:59the pads at the certain 11,
- 53:01and then the the the athletes
- 53:04is moving his body like couple centimeters below
- 53:08and he's hitting
- 53:10as as fast as he can and as
- 53:12strongly as he can. And only during the
- 53:14P and eccentric.
- 53:16Peep... Sorry, pure pure consenting motion then. So
- 53:20it's like, we, I call it Kaiser Hits.
- 53:22Just in in in in in my terminology.
- 53:24So when I program, those are the Kaiser
- 53:26hits. And this is like where where the
- 53:29my my 60 meter guy like a stronger
- 53:32than the sub pan.
- 53:35Maybe run the when he shares that we'll
- 53:37will will have another opinion there, but then
- 53:39then he's absolutely up salty beast.
- 53:43So this is where he tried. While the
- 53:44the the more narrow type of guys, they
- 53:47thrive in the in those like a sat
- 53:50type of motions, short up and down and
- 53:53they are super strong and a short,
- 53:56slash fast eccentric because there is a lot
- 53:58more
- 53:59elasticity,
- 54:00elastic components and involved. And also those guys
- 54:03try on those
- 54:06os isometric, which I do with the with
- 54:09the with a regular bar on on their
- 54:11back, which I which I send you
- 54:14I believe couple months or something some or
- 54:17some ago.
- 54:18And my approach to those
- 54:20iso also
- 54:22III
- 54:23heard a number of term, I had a
- 54:25number of times in in
- 54:27through your conversation with your guess, but my
- 54:29approach is, a slightly different to to, like
- 54:31cut these or Chris
- 54:33approach.
- 54:36I can called shirt. So okay. So the
- 54:38idea is the the idea is that,
- 54:41you know, the the the traditional or more
- 54:44maybe not traditional because that's not this is
- 54:46not very traditional
- 54:48type of exercise at all. But I'd say
- 54:51the beginning of of
- 54:53of oscillator iso that I heard from Ka
- 54:57or Chris or
- 54:59or you name it
- 55:01was that, like you you you're getting in
- 55:03the the position that you want to train
- 55:05and you're making like, you know, short, short,
- 55:08you know, a small
- 55:10is
- 55:12the the a short range of motion up
- 55:15and down movement, and you're moving with a
- 55:17bar and it everything was about, you know,
- 55:19contraction and relaxation and and timing. Again, we're
- 55:22back into timing. Everything is about cycles. Frequencies
- 55:25and timing.
- 55:26So... And you're looking at the perfect timing
- 55:28where you can really find your rhythm with
- 55:30the with a bar. My approach is slightly
- 55:32different. I
- 55:34But but but I am able to apply
- 55:36this to really my elite guys. So you
- 55:39need... Mean, first, you need to...
- 55:42A very high quality bar. It must be
- 55:44like the competition
- 55:46this cannot of be an, cross feed or
- 55:48power lifting
- 55:50stiff bar.
- 55:51You need very elastic
- 55:53certified
- 55:54wet listing bar like a lake or rock
- 55:56or really top brand,
- 55:59bar. You need
- 56:00you need to put
- 56:02you need to put like a really heavy
- 56:06heavy load on the bar because otherwise, the
- 56:09exercise want 1 won't happen. So let's say
- 56:12it's like a a hundred 40
- 56:14hundred 60
- 56:16kilograms on the on the back of the
- 56:17athlete. The position is like the
- 56:22not even a quarter squad. It's it's it's
- 56:24it's it's it's slightly bent in in the
- 56:26knees.
- 56:27Alright? So
- 56:30hills of the ground, of course, because we're
- 56:32looking
- 56:33the to maintain the the rigidity of the
- 56:36of the ankle itself. And the goal of
- 56:38the exit is,
- 56:40after you... After she finds... He she's doing
- 56:42like the the it's not even a mini
- 56:44squad. It's just like a finding
- 56:49he's he's he's task, is to make the
- 56:52the the the wheels on the side of
- 56:54the of the bar to move up and
- 56:56down
- 56:57the highest altitude possible.
- 57:00But
- 57:01the goal of the athlete is almost knocked
- 57:03to move. So the the the the the
- 57:06center of gravity of the athletes is is
- 57:08moving, like, maybe 2 3 centimeters up and
- 57:10barrel.
- 57:11But by true contracts...
- 57:13Contracting and relaxing the mask look is able
- 57:15to find the perfect rhythm,
- 57:18to to combine his his body motion and
- 57:21the and the elasticity of the bar and
- 57:24into a perfect frequency of the motion.
- 57:27So when he finds the rhythm, then he
- 57:29can go 10:20
- 57:3115 times. So it it doesn't really matter.
- 57:32It looks a worthless.
- 57:34And imagine he's he's holding like, a hundred
- 57:3660 kilograms on his bag, and he's making
- 57:38the the side of the bar like, they
- 57:40are wing up and now.
- 57:42So when when you
- 57:45when you see the
- 57:47the Olympic games, the weight lifters.
- 57:50They use it when they are... When when
- 57:51when they're standing up from the from the
- 57:54match. They using the elasticity of the bar,
- 57:56of course. So I'm I'm... I'm I'm multiplying
- 57:59the elasticity of the bar over the period
- 58:01of time. 5 seconds 10 seconds or or
- 58:03or even longer. And the goal always just
- 58:06to make the bar the the bar bouncing
- 58:09kind of thing. That that... There's even the...
- 58:111 of my inspiration was there there are,
- 58:13like, the fitness sticks that that that that
- 58:16I filed at some point Like we're talking
- 58:17like do, you know, the the the the
- 58:20the fitness type of training. Doesn't have much
- 58:22to do with the
- 58:24with the type of training the environment I'm
- 58:25in, But those are the the sticks that
- 58:27that you hold in your your... It's like
- 58:30like a bamboo type of Yeah, like a
- 58:31body blade, I think is where... Body blade
- 58:33it's something like that. And your goal is
- 58:35just to to to to find a perfect
- 58:38perfect vibration and and and to and to
- 58:41and to match your body's vibration into the
- 58:44stick, the the the the body blade vibration.
- 58:46So this is exactly what I'm doing with
- 58:47the super heavy bar on the back.
- 58:50And the narrow guys thrive, and They love
- 58:52it, and it works. Mh.
- 58:55Yeah. I I like that.
- 58:57The best things are the best movements I
- 58:59think are found
- 59:01from the ideas in nature. Like, even biometrics
- 59:04the idea you see someone go dunk basketball,
- 59:07then come down and land on 1 foot
- 59:08and kinda of bounce out of it. You
- 59:10know, like the ply metric that's built into
- 59:12the game itself.
- 59:14Or that what you mentioned like, watching Olympic
- 59:16lifters and they use those os alterations to
- 59:18help them, and it's it's it's... Even too,
- 59:21I guess, you could save nature itself, you
- 59:23could have, like a gorilla shaking a tree
- 59:24really fast. Explicitly to get, you know, some
- 59:27Coconut to fall out of Whatever whatever it
- 59:29is, whatever reason they wanna do it.
- 59:31But and we... And and and we back
- 59:33to... It's timing and a vibration again. Yeah.
- 59:35To shake the tree, you have to have
- 59:37that os cancellation. It... There's a skill to
- 59:39it. I think that's just the missing that's
- 59:41the missing piece that no 1 talks about
- 59:43is that skill of managing those
- 59:46vibrations, managing those populations, and with what you're
- 59:49doing, I think that is the 1 thing
- 59:51I've programmed a lot of oscillator toy movements.
- 59:53The 1 thing about it that is not
- 59:55perfect. Like, I think in everything there's a
- 59:57level of things that are good and the
- 59:59level of things that are a little imperfect,
- 1:00:01You know, the rough on the edges of
- 1:00:02any any intervention that isn't totally pure. Like
- 1:00:04I guess that isn't. Like actual running or
- 1:00:06jumping or throwing or the actual sport. But
- 1:00:08the 1 thing that's a little weird with
- 1:00:10the oscillator stuff is it doesn't feel it
- 1:00:12feels a little forced if that makes sense.
- 1:00:14You're doing a thing
- 1:00:15that you know is helpful, but there's not
- 1:00:18necessarily a task that's guiding you. There's not
- 1:00:20something a constraint. It's missing a constraint.
- 1:00:23And what you're doing is adding a constraint
- 1:00:26basically to something that's already good and just
- 1:00:29making it more tuning it even more. I
- 1:00:32think that's
- 1:00:33that's the... I Even... I even... I've in
- 1:00:35my basement here, and I have 1 of
- 1:00:36those, like, tsunami bars, and and that's the
- 1:00:38thing I've been messing with it for. Is
- 1:00:40that, like,
- 1:00:41giving you a constraint to os to.
- 1:00:45Yeah. The task... So then I don't have
- 1:00:47too money but, but IIII
- 1:00:49had a chance to explore it. So the
- 1:00:50task would be would be make the regular
- 1:00:53bark behaving as a tsunami bar. Yeah. And
- 1:00:56that's that's the task you have you're supposed
- 1:00:57to solve. And and the moment
- 1:01:00they added when when he starts the motion,
- 1:01:02he's moving
- 1:01:03deeper, and the moment he she finds the
- 1:01:06the the the timing and the rhythm with
- 1:01:08the bar, then the athletes motion is like
- 1:01:10maybe 1 inch jumping noun or even less,
- 1:01:13she but the bar really bouncing up and
- 1:01:16down, like, several centimeters on each side,
- 1:01:18again with hundred 60 kilograms on on on
- 1:01:21on, you know,
- 1:01:23on below.
- 1:01:24Yeah.
- 1:01:25Yeah. And it's... It is, you know, it
- 1:01:27kinda makes me think. I feel like you
- 1:01:29would said something about this in an email
- 1:01:31exchange with the idea of, like, how do
- 1:01:33you be progress? And you had said about
- 1:01:36Kaiser.
- 1:01:37And trying to have athletes get the same
- 1:01:40wattage or output later in the season using
- 1:01:42lighter loads as they were able to get
- 1:01:44earlier using heavier loads.
- 1:01:47Oh, absolutely.
- 1:01:48Absolutely. Yes. And that's absolutely. Like I said,
- 1:01:50the that whoever running community IIII train with,
- 1:01:54and and I have a chance to to
- 1:01:55to progress over, like, a some period of
- 1:01:57time, like a season like, proprietary period or
- 1:02:00something. So I let them set their personal
- 1:02:02best to where I loud a little bit
- 1:02:04more load on the on the Kaiser, and
- 1:02:06still,
- 1:02:07up number 1 driver must be the speed
- 1:02:09of motion
- 1:02:10So sometimes when I, like, when I program
- 1:02:13sun training for for my for my running
- 1:02:16up like let...
- 1:02:17We we don't even need to... We don't
- 1:02:19even have to to to spread into sprinter
- 1:02:21or soccer players or or handle whatever whatever
- 1:02:24everybody... I only coach running at.
- 1:02:27Even the speed climb if they're still running
- 1:02:29athletes, but
- 1:02:30it's just the the vertical.
- 1:02:34So
- 1:02:35the
- 1:02:37the way I coach the the
- 1:02:39the... I mean, the way I program
- 1:02:42the resistance,
- 1:02:43it's always...
- 1:02:45Speed of motion is always my absolutely number.
- 1:02:47I I never the speed of motion. So...
- 1:02:50But still. In the in the full time,
- 1:02:52I let them set some records some very
- 1:02:55personal best
- 1:02:56where I allow a little bit more
- 1:02:58little bit more air pumped the into the
- 1:03:00Kaiser system.
- 1:03:02And when we progress towards the spring season
- 1:03:05and summer season, then I limit, like 30
- 1:03:08percent down with the with the weight, but,
- 1:03:11hey, the
- 1:03:12those were your personal best use you said
- 1:03:15in December or
- 1:03:16or whatever January.
- 1:03:18Okay? Now you you... This is your personal
- 1:03:21best. So now I want you to to
- 1:03:23prove me that you can do it the
- 1:03:25same, but now the the the low is
- 1:03:2730 percent less. And where would then then
- 1:03:29we are moving purely towards the speed of
- 1:03:31motion only.
- 1:03:33So definitely, that's the progression through... 1 of
- 1:03:35the progressions Are I used car either for.
- 1:03:38Yeah. I was just thinking,
- 1:03:40yeah.
- 1:03:41Along the lines of the Oscillator I was
- 1:03:42just thinking about how would you progressing, like
- 1:03:44that in the sense of if you get
- 1:03:46you could start with the tsunami bar that's
- 1:03:47extremely easy to To get to go up
- 1:03:50and down. And then every couple weeks ago
- 1:03:52it it'd would be too difficult. I think
- 1:03:54from an equipment perspective, but I was thinking
- 1:03:56about that. And that's not for everyone. In
- 1:03:58because... To to really make this happen. You
- 1:04:01you you need to... You mean, I found
- 1:04:03that, like,
- 1:04:04below 130 kilograms, the bar won't behave the
- 1:04:07way I want to So it... It's not
- 1:04:09definitely not for. I I don't I don't
- 1:04:11I don't know it will with my, you
- 1:04:12know, 19 years old, female hurdles. No. That's
- 1:04:15for my strong dudes, you know For for
- 1:04:18printers. It's it's not not for everybody But
- 1:04:20once they reach the level, they they they
- 1:04:23they they enjoy it, this is like
- 1:04:26they really do and attempt. Yeah. It's... There's
- 1:04:30something too. I think about
- 1:04:32training exercises that
- 1:04:34only a certain group can access because it
- 1:04:36makes you feel like, good that you got
- 1:04:38to it. I get to do this. That's
- 1:04:39what you so awesome. You know,
- 1:04:42I was gonna say, what are your thoughts
- 1:04:44on? Everyone that, you know, that broke the
- 1:04:46Internet. No they're not really, but, like, the
- 1:04:47Cars war home when you Scott, like, you
- 1:04:49know, 400 kilos and bouncing it up and
- 1:04:51down, like, It's oscillator sorry. Right? Like, it's
- 1:04:54it's interest. That's definitely a version of it.
- 1:04:56It's just a little Yeah. Yeah. We we
- 1:04:57log into into details.
- 1:04:59I had I had like, a...
- 1:05:02I hope it's not, you know,
- 1:05:03I'm not and
- 1:05:05going into much privacy, but I had a
- 1:05:08conversation with
- 1:05:10with Ralph Omen. You know, those
- 1:05:12those are the the the
- 1:05:15the Nordic dick's coach coaches community. You know
- 1:05:18Ralph. He was the
- 1:05:20the the
- 1:05:21Sn c coach for for in Randy Huntington
- 1:05:25Group in in in China for for many
- 1:05:27years now He's back in Europe slash Australia.
- 1:05:30So
- 1:05:31I I think that was, I spoke either
- 1:05:34with him or or referral another coach from
- 1:05:37from Sa from Nordic. So anyway, the answer,
- 1:05:39I I got that
- 1:05:41because we tried to to to
- 1:05:44really
- 1:05:45find out what's really going on. And the
- 1:05:48the real, the answer I got from from
- 1:05:50from 1 of the nordic coaches was that
- 1:05:52that the
- 1:05:53Carson Home coach. Sometimes.
- 1:05:56He's doing some stuff just to from just
- 1:05:59to show to the world, some some
- 1:06:02totally crazy approach. Even though this just a
- 1:06:06show off, not necessarily, like a deep top
- 1:06:08and in into it. I have no idea
- 1:06:10if that's the case with this was this
- 1:06:13crazy, you know, the trump bar hitting the,
- 1:06:16you know, the bouncy mats on the side
- 1:06:19if that's the case, but I know that
- 1:06:21that I know from first firsthand coaches, not
- 1:06:23the coaches that that that
- 1:06:25that that they do some crazy stuff just
- 1:06:27to just for the saying doing crazy stuff.
- 1:06:30Yeah And I could see that. But don't
- 1:06:33call me on that because this this is,
- 1:06:34you know, I have I haven't
- 1:06:36chance to really ask direct question.
- 1:06:39Maybe in...
- 1:06:40In the month, Been in the Olympus when
- 1:06:42maybe there be. I'll be lucky maybe to
- 1:06:44have a to have a coffee with him
- 1:06:46at the hotel lobby. Like I had with
- 1:06:49randy Huntington years back, then I'll I ask.
- 1:06:51Yeah. For sure, can can get some more
- 1:06:53clarification at that point. I think either way
- 1:06:54it's certainly a very extreme training regimen like
- 1:06:57from... Top to bottom. So does this... Yeah.
- 1:06:59I it does remind me too I think
- 1:07:01about, like, like, the Russians when the the
- 1:07:04story goes when the D jobs first came
- 1:07:05out, They tricked the Americans Saying it was
- 1:07:0790 or, like, you, just things that are
- 1:07:09just like that. Yeah.
- 1:07:12So I do it... They don't do it
- 1:07:13they don't do it anymore.
- 1:07:15And you, you know, Poland was under under
- 1:07:17like, you know it with the eastern blu
- 1:07:18and everything. Nobody nobody did it, you know,
- 1:07:214 formidable 9 9 feet. This that jumps.
- 1:07:24People would die. Yeah. The the only people
- 1:07:26I've seen do anything like that is as
- 1:07:28I've seen a few, like, there was that
- 1:07:30Japanese high jumper it was in a research
- 1:07:31study. I think it was like a or
- 1:07:337 foot up jump or something like that.
- 1:07:35But it was just... I think it was
- 1:07:37just to find out. I don't think... Okay.
- 1:07:39I don't think the actually do that. But
- 1:07:41the thing is is all the Japanese athletes
- 1:07:43I've seen. That if you wanna talk, like
- 1:07:45high reactive strength index, super bouncy. That that
- 1:07:48group actually Like, I really enjoy watching, you
- 1:07:51know, it's like the world with Instagram now
- 1:07:53you see all these training videos from Japanese
- 1:07:55groups and it's all extremely spring y.
- 1:07:58Yeah. Or so I think even than a
- 1:08:00lot of other cultures in countries. So it
- 1:08:01makes sense like, yes. Know, you know, I
- 1:08:04can do a depth jump from 7 feet.
- 1:08:06That doesn't mean I'm... You know, that like,
- 1:08:07part of normal training, but they're training. Yeah.
- 1:08:10I I mean, I believe they can do
- 1:08:11it based off with whole with their training.
- 1:08:13What... What what I'm considering to it also
- 1:08:15because I know that... That 1 of the
- 1:08:17pinnacle of of of at least spring spring
- 1:08:19training in Japan is is maintaining low body
- 1:08:22the weight. Mh. Yeah. So this could be
- 1:08:24also the case it's... It'll be different if
- 1:08:26you if if you throw, you know,
- 1:08:29200 pulse muscular guy to to to make
- 1:08:31him, you know, 7 8
- 1:08:33feed drop jumps versus versus, you know, hundred
- 1:08:36and 40,
- 1:08:37hundred and 40
- 1:08:39pounds
- 1:08:40skinny,
- 1:08:41Japanese.
- 1:08:43Sprinter. And
- 1:08:44when when you look at the body type
- 1:08:46of of the the Japanese sprinter they are
- 1:08:48very slim. Mh. I think the slim is
- 1:08:50in the in the in the,
- 1:08:53you know, when the in the arena when
- 1:08:54you... When when they're on the finals.
- 1:08:56That's also
- 1:08:58maybe the case, maybe not.
- 1:09:00Yeah. There's that 1 sprinter,
- 1:09:02Japanese Sprinter. I wanna see he's, like, a
- 1:09:0410 o 0 guy or somewhere in that
- 1:09:06world. And his start is, like, the most
- 1:09:08unique, like his back is totally hunch over.
- 1:09:11Just comes out just straight spinning.
- 1:09:13But I I and I think people would
- 1:09:15say, well, how could you get away with
- 1:09:16that? Or is that the best? It's like,
- 1:09:17I of, that guy probably weighs.
- 1:09:19I don't know what his height weight is,
- 1:09:21but I'm sure his body mass index index
- 1:09:23is extremely low and his reactivity is extremely
- 1:09:26high. So it's like the only body type
- 1:09:28you could have that could get away with
- 1:09:29that kind of thing. Yeah. So it's interesting
- 1:09:32to think about? Yeah. And he's he here.
- 1:09:34The last season, he was also brief. Pre
- 1:09:36fa over 60 meters, so that's also interesting
- 1:09:38year. It being that that that lightweight skinny.
- 1:09:40So he was like max 06:50.
- 1:09:42So it's it's it's pretty good result for
- 1:09:45the What the Japanese guy? Yeah. Yeah. It's
- 1:09:47it's really amazing. It almost seeing things like
- 1:09:49that almost makes me know even though, like,
- 1:09:51that start,
- 1:09:53Hey if I was to, you know, getting
- 1:09:55the blocks and sprint, that would not be
- 1:09:56the best start for me. But it'd be
- 1:09:58fun just to try it just to be
- 1:09:59like, What's this guy's body going through. You
- 1:10:01know, how is he's helping this problem. I
- 1:10:03just think... Sometimes I think we don't try
- 1:10:05that enough. We just... It's fun to just
- 1:10:07do different techniques, sometimes just just for the
- 1:10:09fun of it, just for the...
- 1:10:11Exploration how someone's
- 1:10:13absolutely.
- 1:10:15So I did wanna... You, 1 of the
- 1:10:16last topics I wanted to get onto here
- 1:10:19and it just... I know you've evolved this
- 1:10:21system. It's been something you've have a lot
- 1:10:22of experience with is the the run specific
- 1:10:25isometric. So, like, the maximal...
- 1:10:27Getting a semi sprint or sprint position and
- 1:10:29press into a bar loaded as isometric as
- 1:10:32hard as to can measure it.
- 1:10:34I think you're even using, like, a... The
- 1:10:35scale you're using was really single you mentioned,
- 1:10:37like, it was, like, I don't know it's
- 1:10:39a phishing skill. I don't know you're using.
- 1:10:41Yeah. Yeah. But, A bit more about that
- 1:10:43how you it evolve for you. Single that
- 1:10:45was at some point. Yes. Yeah. I evolved
- 1:10:47like into into really more advanced, you know,
- 1:10:50dynamic meters, really by high end, high end
- 1:10:53stuff, but
- 1:10:55the the run specific ge metrics, you know,
- 1:10:57we we have to give credits to to
- 1:10:59Alex Tara who at some point was was
- 1:11:02was
- 1:11:04important
- 1:11:05influencer. And and like a like a like
- 1:11:07a direct support to me like it was
- 1:11:10I can even say that my elite hurdle
- 1:11:12back then 20 18, 20 19.
- 1:11:15That was, I think, Alex Could could,
- 1:11:19maybe correct me if I'm wrong, but I
- 1:11:20think
- 1:11:21that that she was the the first, like,
- 1:11:23really a little level athlete who who who
- 1:11:26who really went
- 1:11:28we went deeply into exploring, but Alex approached
- 1:11:31is
- 1:11:32his
- 1:11:34ran specific guys asos back then. And I
- 1:11:37was in a direct contact with with him
- 1:11:39he I consulted and and definitely
- 1:11:41it was a big camp.
- 1:11:43He was a big hand for me back
- 1:11:44then even we ended up like Doha, this
- 1:11:46the Aspire academy where where where he spent
- 1:11:49years,
- 1:11:50years training and coaching and we were done.
- 1:11:52So until now if even now 20 24,
- 1:11:56in Alex,
- 1:11:57when he when he... When he runs his
- 1:11:59clinics on on around specific guys All over
- 1:12:02the world, and at least
- 1:12:04he had, like, a, like, a huge tour
- 1:12:06or across Europe this this spring. So so
- 1:12:10he still presents my course, with with
- 1:12:13the we agreed on that. Guy. He presents
- 1:12:15my my athlete.
- 1:12:16There's female hurdle training from, like, 20 18,
- 1:12:1920, 20 19, and it was very successful
- 1:12:21for me. But at some point,
- 1:12:24I started
- 1:12:25looking into limitations that of course
- 1:12:30the tenants
- 1:12:32and
- 1:12:33all those benefits
- 1:12:34from those
- 1:12:35shorter and and longer iso types of iso,
- 1:12:38we don't need to explore it because it's
- 1:12:40it's it's it's
- 1:12:42like wide known
- 1:12:44nowadays.
- 1:12:46III
- 1:12:47tried it tell about about the limitations that
- 1:12:49I started finding in the in the system
- 1:12:52itself as as a as a whole. And,
- 1:12:54of course, that that's that's the Ada bar,
- 1:12:57ada bar who who changed my mind into
- 1:13:00into levers and the angular momentum.
- 1:13:03So
- 1:13:05at some point, III get into into
- 1:13:08a conclusion that that's it's
- 1:13:12The around specific isometric, it's so much built
- 1:13:16around pushing against object.
- 1:13:20Even though the the the benefits for the
- 1:13:22for the tissues for sure that that they
- 1:13:24are there. And and I'm I'm a hundred
- 1:13:26percent
- 1:13:27convinced that the the system,
- 1:13:29is is able to to support and help
- 1:13:32been a training of of running community. I
- 1:13:34wouldn't say that margin elite sprint community, but
- 1:13:37definitely for running community, that's a great thing.
- 1:13:40For for many Coaches,
- 1:13:42I advise to follow follow Alex
- 1:13:45ideas because they were great. They are groundbreaking.
- 1:13:47But
- 1:13:48the elite level printing I found that there's
- 1:13:51too much focusing
- 1:13:53even the the athletes mind around pushing against
- 1:13:56object. And at some point, does it?
- 1:13:59Sprint is not about pushing. It's angular momentum
- 1:14:02and the pool that follows kind of thing.
- 1:14:05I'm
- 1:14:06so I mean, that that that was something
- 1:14:08that the I kind of started the looking
- 1:14:10into.
- 1:14:12So
- 1:14:13another another thing that that... Another limitation that
- 1:14:16I found and and and
- 1:14:19move away from from the system itself was
- 1:14:22that I wasn't able to explore levers.
- 1:14:24So I said, I cannot really train the
- 1:14:26athlete in the in the tool to make
- 1:14:28him stronger
- 1:14:29and maintaining the the body position that that
- 1:14:33maintained the left... Particular level function in the
- 1:14:36at the particular point of time because it
- 1:14:39it's changing dynamically,
- 1:14:41So I can't really train the levers, I
- 1:14:43cannot really train the the the pulling
- 1:14:46kind of thing. And the further you look
- 1:14:48into,
- 1:14:50The only action that the that the muscle
- 1:14:53is able to create is the pulling force.
- 1:14:57So even when you push your object, the
- 1:14:59only
- 1:15:00direction of the 4 that your muscle and
- 1:15:02a muscle through your body is able to
- 1:15:04create.
- 1:15:05Through contraction
- 1:15:07is pulling.
- 1:15:09So, of course, when you when you look
- 1:15:10through through the whole system and when when
- 1:15:12you look through the,
- 1:15:17is that a concept. If if you look
- 1:15:18through just the
- 1:15:20reality because it's not just an idea. So
- 1:15:23we are, like the the combination of of
- 1:15:25of of
- 1:15:27of muscles that pool and the strings that
- 1:15:30that... Transfer the the forces. But the only
- 1:15:33direction that the muscle is being create is
- 1:15:35like the pulling inside.
- 1:15:37From attachment to the attachment is pulling.
- 1:15:40So even when you push something, your muscles
- 1:15:42are pulling
- 1:15:44inside. And the the the the the the
- 1:15:47outcome, of course, you push the car, you
- 1:15:48push the bar on anything.
- 1:15:50But the muscles only pull inside. So that
- 1:15:53was another reason for me. I didn't want
- 1:15:55to program
- 1:15:56even at the at the, you know,
- 1:16:00the mental level. I didn't want to lock
- 1:16:02my athletes into pushing motion.
- 1:16:05So that was 111 of the
- 1:16:081 of the the reasons I started to
- 1:16:10export this little bit further I kind of
- 1:16:12build my my current version of the of
- 1:16:15the in of the training system that III
- 1:16:19evolved into kind of thing. So... But still,
- 1:16:23Alex helped me a lot like 20 18,
- 1:16:25like, 6, 7 years ago, but... And I
- 1:16:27still recommend this this training as maybe
- 1:16:31introduction into into Isometric that trending, within a
- 1:16:35running community. So this this this can help
- 1:16:37a lot.
- 1:16:38Yeah so that that that would be the
- 1:16:40the limitation that I found in and in
- 1:16:42the too much pushing and and the the
- 1:16:45not having a chance to really work through
- 1:16:47levers I wanted to work found Yeah. I...
- 1:16:49You know, you said you had start with
- 1:16:51a phishing scale. And I I was jealous
- 1:16:53even... Would you told me that. That was
- 1:16:55out of how long ago that was. Because
- 1:16:57the only thing I was able to do
- 1:16:58was just, like a functional... I think it
- 1:17:00was like a Christian Tv inspired adaptation, maybe
- 1:17:02I say you mentioned this as well where
- 1:17:04you just load a bar up.
- 1:17:06To to 99 percent and lift it off
- 1:17:08an inch, you know, and and do. It's
- 1:17:10just a lot of plates on and off
- 1:17:12and trying to get the rack in the
- 1:17:13right place and But you could do it.
- 1:17:15I I finally got
- 1:17:16these these force meters are so much more
- 1:17:19common now. I got, like, a... It's a
- 1:17:20climbing company called Tin.
- 1:17:22And it's for finger strength, but it's a
- 1:17:24500 kilogram, you a little thing and I
- 1:17:26hook it up to the K box and
- 1:17:27my harness and it's like I can do
- 1:17:29this now. I found the tendon benefits like
- 1:17:32like, achilles at any sort of achilles issues
- 1:17:34has been really good as well. So it's...
- 1:17:37Outside of the idea with the pushing. So...
- 1:17:39On
- 1:17:40absolutely absolutely. Mean I think that the
- 1:17:44in the
- 1:17:45even Alex approach. This can be like a
- 1:17:47huge place, a huge potential in in the
- 1:17:49more rehab. Yeah. Also
- 1:17:52definitely. Like like like, over the summer,
- 1:17:551 of the... 1... You know, like, I
- 1:17:57mentioned my at is need, like, a long
- 1:17:58back 2 or 3 months, like a like
- 1:18:00a pure vacation. Or we don't want them
- 1:18:02bring too much too much just just staying
- 1:18:05healthy,
- 1:18:06generally healthy just
- 1:18:08and the 1 thing that this is the
- 1:18:09also the moment,
- 1:18:12were
- 1:18:12combination of pure combination of Alex system
- 1:18:17combined
- 1:18:17with the Kid bar approach
- 1:18:21where where you're passing the point of of
- 1:18:23muscle relaxation. So so over the 3 months,
- 1:18:26all of my athletes needs to really
- 1:18:28stay and the and
- 1:18:30maintaining healthy
- 1:18:32attendance
- 1:18:33working through, like a a 30 seconds plus
- 1:18:36isometric. And for that reason,
- 1:18:38Alex approach would be perfect. But we... I'm
- 1:18:40not training, you know, the sprint skills. I'm
- 1:18:43only maintaining the health of of of their
- 1:18:45achilles stand. Of course, with the with the
- 1:18:48with a gelatin and the vitamin c
- 1:18:50supplementation. Again, Kit Barr, I haven't mentioned him
- 1:18:53And never had a chance to meet him
- 1:18:55even though I wasn't when when I was
- 1:18:57visiting
- 1:18:58Ed in Woodland still. So it was really
- 1:19:00close to University of Davis Was still back
- 1:19:02then. But his his
- 1:19:05his his work is is is is is
- 1:19:08is important.
- 1:19:10So my summer training is a combination of
- 1:19:13of key bar approach.
- 1:19:15Delivered through Alex Nat
- 1:19:17specific guys isometric,
- 1:19:18just purely for random term, tandem health.
- 1:19:22Because, you know, when you were working on
- 1:19:23the
- 1:19:24purely speed.
- 1:19:26It's always
- 1:19:28not enough time for everything. So I'd rather
- 1:19:29to do, like, a 3 months of,
- 1:19:32you know,
- 1:19:33I can be spot over the summer. Yeah.
- 1:19:37So it was just a couple... 1 1
- 1:19:39thing and then a question is, you know,
- 1:19:40you mentioned, I I really love you put
- 1:19:42together the the polling and the tense.
- 1:19:45If right... The thing that makes me laugh
- 1:19:47is David We when he was on the
- 1:19:48show, like, 300 episodes ago. He had said,
- 1:19:50like, I don't like the word push. It's
- 1:19:52too slow. It's like, pull is much faster,
- 1:19:55and it's just like... But yeah, if you
- 1:19:57think of it, yeah, from that tenth second,
- 1:19:59you're just pulling.
- 1:20:00On the tenth secretary system. It makes a
- 1:20:02lot of sense. And, you know, my perception
- 1:20:04and, you know, next time, Da on the
- 1:20:06show where I talked to him I'll have
- 1:20:07to ask him, like, his clarification on this,
- 1:20:09but my perception of how he approaches movement
- 1:20:12is. It's like a sensation and isometric in
- 1:20:15the foot or wherever you need to feel
- 1:20:16an isometric,
- 1:20:17In a semi squad position with a pulling.
- 1:20:20It's like to find the iso, you're in
- 1:20:22a squad enough position to leverage strength. And
- 1:20:24then add a pull onto things. So we're
- 1:20:26out a fall. A a fall is kind
- 1:20:27of a pull. Yeah. So it's it's
- 1:20:30and you'll be in a you've been pulled
- 1:20:32by the by the mother at. Yes. Do
- 1:20:34you exactly. And even the squat run. That's...
- 1:20:36That's another thing too. Is I just... I
- 1:20:38was trying to find ways to think. How
- 1:20:39do you communicate that this isn't like... More
- 1:20:41be labor
- 1:20:42sprint.
- 1:20:43I mean I guess you could say in
- 1:20:44AII
- 1:20:45ran a squat 4 a hundred at the
- 1:20:46end of 1 of Da practices, and that
- 1:20:48was be sprint. I would not advise running
- 1:20:50a 400 like that. But the thing is...
- 1:20:52Yeah. That that... That's great. That's crazy. We
- 1:20:54tried. Yeah I tried with my guys... You
- 1:20:56you always my example. I I always explain
- 1:20:58to my guys. Hey. I know it dude.
- 1:21:00Who did it over 400 meters. So just...
- 1:21:03You're lucky and you're lucky that I only
- 1:21:05want you to do it over 40 meters.
- 1:21:06Not 400 but You're always my examples. I'll
- 1:21:09video myself doing it. That'll be a good.
- 1:21:11That'll be maybe a viral video. I don't
- 1:21:12know.
- 1:21:13But I feel like what makes the squat
- 1:21:15run run work. With the timing is that
- 1:21:17it feels more like a pole than a
- 1:21:18push. When it feels like yeah whole, it's
- 1:21:21not like muscular
- 1:21:22overload. You're using all the all the muscular
- 1:21:25and the connect of tissues in tandem, and
- 1:21:27it's like you're pulling yourself forward it and
- 1:21:28the levers are what give you the platform
- 1:21:30because you have, a sharper lever, dip angle
- 1:21:33in the back to to platform? Yes. And
- 1:21:35and imagine that that I also apply like
- 1:21:38a a light light sled?
- 1:21:41Towards the quarter run, then then the sensation
- 1:21:43of pulling in is even increased because of
- 1:21:46the a really lightweight
- 1:21:48the the... It's it's it's got because you,
- 1:21:50you know, the motions got nothing to do
- 1:21:51with the with the with the clean blocks
- 1:21:53with, like, you know, heavy resistance being pulled.
- 1:21:56But but if I when I apply, like,
- 1:21:58really light sweat for the quarter runs, then
- 1:22:02the the ethic can really explore
- 1:22:05what the pulling is about in in motion?
- 1:22:07Yeah. That's just the trick. It's how to
- 1:22:10create a environment where athletes can feel themselves.
- 1:22:13Pulling themselves forward. Versus, it seems like 99
- 1:22:17percent of the queue is just telling you
- 1:22:18with pushing or hitting the ground or hit
- 1:22:20the ground hotter or teach you how to
- 1:22:21apply force,
- 1:22:23which had nothing to do with the body's
- 1:22:24tense system a lot of to not to
- 1:22:26pull itself so. Push your hips away from
- 1:22:28the ground by being high hips and and
- 1:22:31things like that.
- 1:22:32And the opposite of it that the body
- 1:22:34wants to do. Yeah. Yes. Absolutely.
- 1:22:38So with the the...
- 1:22:40Do you do in in place then of,
- 1:22:41like, So, you know, run specific or tenant
- 1:22:43health and then you mentioned extreme iso as
- 1:22:45well So if are you... Does the oscillator
- 1:22:48work kind of take... Place of where that
- 1:22:50might be. You know, again, you could say,
- 1:22:51you only have so many things in the
- 1:22:52program.
- 1:22:54Yeah. And more of the stuff,
- 1:22:56the Or Yeah. It's kind of. III just
- 1:22:58build, like, the... Because there's still the the
- 1:23:01the iso asos
- 1:23:03various type of iso It's like a a
- 1:23:06pinnacle of my my strength training. So I
- 1:23:08had to build like, the
- 1:23:10the
- 1:23:11the way how to incorporate the pulling, but
- 1:23:13it's it's
- 1:23:15it's not easy to to do when when
- 1:23:18you push against against the bar that has
- 1:23:20been either, you know, blocked under the hooks
- 1:23:22or or
- 1:23:23or or,
- 1:23:25you know, there's a way that you cannot
- 1:23:26really lift. So
- 1:23:29I think we can explore this maybe, maybe
- 1:23:31there there be a chance to to sit
- 1:23:33again because, you know, we...
- 1:23:35I believe there's still so many topics we
- 1:23:37can explore and I enjoy the conversation. So
- 1:23:39maybe
- 1:23:40in couple months time or so
- 1:23:43we can divide the whole session into getting
- 1:23:45into
- 1:23:47the
- 1:23:48it's not even evolution of of of Alex
- 1:23:51system because Alex system is Alex system. So
- 1:23:55but I can... I can I can then
- 1:23:58talk about the the the my system that
- 1:24:00was from inspired by by great work of
- 1:24:03Alex Nat natasha? Yeah.
- 1:24:05Yeah. But, yeah. Maybe it was framing it
- 1:24:07up how you evolved it probably a different
- 1:24:09way to frame that. Because, like, yeah, like,
