Ep. 407 - How Knowledge Produces Accountability · The Living Waters Podcast

• 0:00
SPEAKER_00: Doctrinal knowledge is to the Christian life what blood is to the human body.
• 0:05
SPEAKER_00: If the blood flows through vessels, it literally gives life to the whole body.
• 0:10
SPEAKER_00: But if you just collected blood in a big bucket, some kind of grotesque vat, then you've got something unnatural going on.
• 0:17
SPEAKER_00: Blood isn't meant to be stored in a vat.
• 0:19
SPEAKER_00: It's meant to flow through vessels and veins and arteries.
• 0:22
SPEAKER_00: Likewise, knowledge is not meant to be pulled in a giant theological noggin.
• 0:27
SPEAKER_00: Good doctrine and a robust understanding of God is meant to flow through us, producing fruit, leading to worship, and making us more like Christ.
• 0:37
SPEAKER_00: That happens in the context of growing in wisdom, not knowledge.
• 0:46
  SPEAKER_02: Why?
• 0:47
SPEAKER_05: Oh, why, Franz, would I ask my co-hosts a question that I know they have no answer for?
• 0:56
SPEAKER_05: Well, of course, to humiliate them and to demonstrate my mental superiority.
• 1:02
SPEAKER_05: You like how I said that, Mark?
• 1:03
  SPEAKER_05: Superiority.
• 1:05
SPEAKER_08: And you looked up the answer before you asked the question?
• 1:08
SPEAKER_05: No, because no, I I knew the answer.
• 1:11
  SPEAKER_05: And here's a question.
• 1:13
SPEAKER_05: What are the three top things designed to keep people humble?
• 1:22
  SPEAKER_02: Number one.
• 1:23
  SPEAKER_05: You kids.
• 1:25
  SPEAKER_05: It's through.
• 1:27
  SPEAKER_05: Number one.
• 1:28
  SPEAKER_05: The funny bone.
• 1:30
SPEAKER_05: You guys ever hit your funny head?
• 1:32
SPEAKER_06: Who named it funny bone?
• 1:33
  SPEAKER_06: It really hurts.
• 1:34
  SPEAKER_05: The thought of it.
• 1:35
  SPEAKER_05: The thought of it.
• 1:36
SPEAKER_06: You know, I think it's funny for other people.
• 1:38
  SPEAKER_06: That must be it.
• 1:39
  SPEAKER_06: That's it.
• 1:40
SPEAKER_06: But it's what is it electrical?
• 1:42
  SPEAKER_06: What is it?
• 1:42
SPEAKER_08: I don't know, but it mine hurts.
• 1:44
SPEAKER_08: It goes right up that space.
• 1:45
  SPEAKER_08: It's a nerve, isn't it?
• 1:46
  SPEAKER_08: Yeah, it's true.
• 1:47
  SPEAKER_08: It's hot.
• 1:47
SPEAKER_05: So we've all experienced it.
• 1:49
SPEAKER_05: It's like these two changes.
• 1:49
SPEAKER_05: I wonder if someone hasn't experienced it.
• 1:51
  SPEAKER_05: You've experienced it, Oscar?
• 1:52
  SPEAKER_05: Oh, yeah, absolutely.
• 1:52
  SPEAKER_05: Only two fingers?
• 1:53
SPEAKER_05: You know, you walk in, you hit somebody.
• 1:56
SPEAKER_05: It just feels like an electrical surge.
• 1:57
  SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
• 1:58
  SPEAKER_05: Kaboom.
• 1:58
  SPEAKER_05: Hate it.
• 1:59
  SPEAKER_05: Funny bone.
• 2:00
  SPEAKER_05: Secondly, your legs.
• 2:02
SPEAKER_06: It's like saying the agony of chocolate cake.
• 2:06
  SPEAKER_05: Your legs falling asleep.
• 2:08
SPEAKER_05: Your legs are falling asleep.
• 2:10
  SPEAKER_05: Ah, that's right.
• 2:11
SPEAKER_05: Also, you heard me say legs.
• 2:13
SPEAKER_05: Your legs are falling asleep.
• 2:16
  SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
• 2:17
SPEAKER_06: That's when they go tingly where you cut off the blood supply?
• 2:19
  SPEAKER_05: Yeah, they're not asleep.
• 2:21
SPEAKER_05: Asleep would mean I would feel nothing.
• 2:23
SPEAKER_05: They're like, it's how do you how do you articulate what's happening there?
• 2:28
SPEAKER_06: Well, obviously, an idiot is naming all these.
• 2:30
SPEAKER_00: Have they ever fallen asleep right before you stand up to preach?
• 2:33
  SPEAKER_00: That's happened to me.
• 2:34
  SPEAKER_00: Oh, really?
• 2:37
SPEAKER_00: Like a baby giraffe trying to walk to the pulpit.
• 2:39
  SPEAKER_05: No, seriously.
• 2:41
SPEAKER_05: And it's just like, imagine though, it like never, it just like became permanent.
• 2:47
  SPEAKER_08: Well, it probably is.
• 2:48
SPEAKER_05: It's kind of like your leg.
• 2:50
  SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
• 2:51
  SPEAKER_05: My polio leg.
• 2:53
SPEAKER_05: Okay, and last but not least, the most embarrassing one, and I still I haven't had got a handle on this, many of you guys have gleaking.
• 3:01
SPEAKER_05: Oh, I know what gleaking is.
• 3:03
SPEAKER_06: I had a friend that deliberately could leak about five, six feet.
• 3:07
  SPEAKER_06: Like on demand.
• 3:08
  SPEAKER_06: Oh, yeah.
• 3:09
  SPEAKER_06: But here's my problem.
• 3:10
SPEAKER_06: Well, that's Murray Smith could do that.
• 3:12
  SPEAKER_05: Here's my problem.
• 3:13
SPEAKER_05: I gleak all the time.
• 3:14
SPEAKER_05: I can just never do it on purpose.
• 3:16
SPEAKER_05: It always has happened to you guys on accident ever?
• 3:19
SPEAKER_06: So, for those who don't know, this is where the salivary gland under the tongue decides to squirt out.
• 3:24
SPEAKER_05: And it always hits the person in the eye.
• 3:26
  SPEAKER_05: It's so humiliating.
• 3:27
SPEAKER_06: We talked about Does it ever happen when you're witnessing?
• 3:32
  SPEAKER_04: It's baptism.
• 3:34
SPEAKER_05: This is actually why Ray wears glasses now around you.
• 3:38
SPEAKER_05: Oh, it seriously is it's just crazy.
• 3:41
SPEAKER_05: And then you're, I mean, you just got your saliva all over someone.
• 3:43
SPEAKER_05: So who's done with this Gary Gleek?
• 3:45
SPEAKER_05: Why is it called a gleek?
• 3:46
  SPEAKER_05: It's called.
• 3:47
SPEAKER_05: Can you guys do you guys know how to do it on purpose?
• 3:49
  SPEAKER_05: No.
• 3:50
  SPEAKER_06: Turn your tongue back.
• 3:51
SPEAKER_05: But has it happened to you on accident?
• 3:52
  SPEAKER_05: It has, right?
• 3:53
  SPEAKER_06: No, I don't need to.
• 3:54
SPEAKER_05: Do you think the apostles ever gleaked?
• 3:56
  SPEAKER_05: I'm sure.
• 3:57
  SPEAKER_06: I'm a man of like passions.
• 3:59
SPEAKER_04: Getting rebuked for gleaking, too.
• 4:02
  SPEAKER_04: Oh man.
• 4:04
SPEAKER_04: Paul's side was constant gleaking.
• 4:06
  SPEAKER_04: Lord in his flash.
• 4:08
  SPEAKER_04: All right.
• 4:09
SPEAKER_05: Time for a cool glazy garment.
• 4:10
SPEAKER_05: This is from Emma Lou 1411.
• 4:14
  SPEAKER_05: Subject line.
• 4:15
  SPEAKER_05: So, so, so three.
• 4:17
  SPEAKER_05: Good.
• 4:18
  SPEAKER_05: As a 14-year-old girl, a 14-year-old girl, I love these guys.
• 4:22
SPEAKER_05: Such great teaching and wisdom.
• 4:24
SPEAKER_05: I've grown so much from listening and easy.
• 4:26
  SPEAKER_05: Keep singing, please.
• 4:28
  SPEAKER_05: Oh man.
• 4:28
SPEAKER_05: Maybe someday we'll get Ray to sing too.
• 4:31
  SPEAKER_05: No.
• 4:31
SPEAKER_05: I never get tired of listening to this podcast.
• 4:34
SPEAKER_03: Emalu, Amelou, we are so, so grateful for you.
• 4:41
  SPEAKER_00: Wow.
• 4:41
  SPEAKER_00: Thank you.
• 4:43
  SPEAKER_00: Kind of.
• 4:43
  SPEAKER_00: I just hit up.
• 4:45
SPEAKER_08: Somebody gave me a letter to hand to you from uh England.
• 4:49
  SPEAKER_08: Really?
• 4:50
SPEAKER_08: And they said to keep on singing.
• 4:51
  SPEAKER_04: Yes.
• 4:52
SPEAKER_08: I have it up in my office.
• 4:53
  SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
• 4:54
  SPEAKER_08: In the trash can.
• 4:57
  SPEAKER_02: Confirmation.
• 4:58
SPEAKER_05: Get ready for our special segment, Quality Questions.
• 5:04
SPEAKER_05: This one goes to Ray Comfort.
• 5:05
SPEAKER_05: My name is Natalie Ward from Atlanta, Georgia.
• 5:08
SPEAKER_05: And I just wanted to say that I love you guys' podcast.
• 5:11
SPEAKER_05: I had some friends recommend it this past summer/slash fall when I was doing a mission with them.
• 5:16
SPEAKER_05: Anyway, I was wondering what is a way that a lady young in her faith can help support the men in my church as well as grow in my own faith as someone who's awkward with reaching out and dealing with people.
• 5:28
SPEAKER_05: What is a good way that I can show my appreciation?
• 5:32
SPEAKER_06: I have a good way, but first I'd like to say I want to commend you for wanting to be a servant as a new Christian.
• 5:37
SPEAKER_06: That's a real sign of maturity and growth as a Christian.
• 5:41
SPEAKER_06: Don't worry about feeling awkward, but here's a thought for you.
• 5:45
SPEAKER_06: What did you think of a firefighter who said, I don't like saving people from burning buildings because I feel awkward?
• 5:52
  SPEAKER_05: Hmm.
• 5:52
  SPEAKER_05: That's good.
• 5:54
SPEAKER_06: No, you could never think like that.
• 5:57
SPEAKER_06: And as Christians, we all suffer with an awkwardness.
• 6:00
SPEAKER_06: I feel awkward all the time.
• 6:01
SPEAKER_06: You've got to overcome that awkwardness because there's something more important.
• 6:04
SPEAKER_06: Others save with fear, putting them for fire.
• 6:07
SPEAKER_06: And here is the climax of what I say.
• 6:09
SPEAKER_06: If you want to impress these young men and encourage them, bake an apple pie.
• 6:16
  SPEAKER_05: Bake two.
• 6:17
  SPEAKER_05: Wait a minute.
• 6:18
SPEAKER_05: You were asking today in our Texas.
• 6:20
SPEAKER_05: I asked Cam Ham, and he didn't answer me.
• 6:22
SPEAKER_05: This is his big moment.
• 6:23
SPEAKER_05: What do you say, Australian or American?
• 6:25
SPEAKER_06: No, American apple, how can I put this?
• 6:27
  SPEAKER_06: Americans do things wonderfully.
• 6:29
SPEAKER_06: Everything they do except apple pies.
• 6:31
  SPEAKER_06: They're awful.
• 6:32
SPEAKER_06: They're full of cinnamon and goo.
• 6:35
SPEAKER_06: That sounds like apple pie and vanilla ice cream.
• 6:38
  SPEAKER_06: No, no, no.
• 6:39
SPEAKER_06: Oh, yeah, no, it's not mode.
• 6:42
  SPEAKER_06: Screech.
• 6:43
  SPEAKER_06: Hold it.
• 6:43
  unknown: Come on.
• 6:44
SPEAKER_06: An Australian or New Zealand apple pie has really nice apples.
• 6:48
SPEAKER_06: They don't taste like turnips and hard.
• 6:51
  SPEAKER_06: They don't have goo.
• 6:52
  SPEAKER_06: They don't have cinnamon.
• 6:52
  SPEAKER_06: They don't have spice.
• 6:54
SPEAKER_06: And they use flaky pastry.
• 6:55
  SPEAKER_06: Cinnamon, whatever.
• 6:56
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, you know what flaky pastry is?
• 6:58
SPEAKER_00: Like filia, but not like American leather pastry.
• 7:02
  SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
• 7:02
  SPEAKER_06: You try flaky pastry.
• 7:04
  SPEAKER_06: It's just wonderful.
• 7:05
SPEAKER_06: So I would say go on the internet, find Australian or New Zealand reps recipes for an apple pie, and bake some apple pies for these guys.
• 7:12
SPEAKER_06: They will love you forever.
• 7:14
SPEAKER_00: I will say New Zealand knows how to make themselves a meat bois.
• 7:17
  SPEAKER_00: Meat boy fast.
• 7:23
SPEAKER_06: And the apple pies are just as good.
• 7:25
  SPEAKER_06: Apple pie.
• 7:26
  SPEAKER_05: Yeah, apple pie.
• 7:26
  SPEAKER_06: Makes me salivate.
• 7:28
SPEAKER_06: It immediately sends my uh slavery glands into doing the disco.
• 7:31
SPEAKER_06: Just leaping around with excitement.
• 7:33
  SPEAKER_02: Eternal salivation.
• 7:34
  SPEAKER_06: Eternal salivation.
• 7:36
SPEAKER_00: The best meatbois I've ever had is at your sister's house.
• 7:39
  SPEAKER_00: That's true.
• 7:39
  SPEAKER_00: Meatbois.
• 7:40
SPEAKER_06: Is that how New Zealanders sell?
• 7:41
  SPEAKER_00: Oh yeah, meat bois.
• 7:43
SPEAKER_05: They put ketchup on it.
• 7:44
  SPEAKER_05: Makes no sense.
• 7:45
  SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
• 7:45
SPEAKER_05: Oh, you gotta put ketchup on it.
• 7:46
  SPEAKER_05: Especially on Shepard's point.
• 7:48
  SPEAKER_05: Shepherd's Point.
• 7:49
SPEAKER_05: You guys had Shepherd's Point?
• 7:50
  SPEAKER_05: Yeah, yeah.
• 7:51
SPEAKER_05: They have that in Australia, New Zealand.
• 7:52
  SPEAKER_06: And Scutland.
• 7:53
  SPEAKER_06: Hey.
• 7:54
  SPEAKER_06: Scotland.
• 7:55
SPEAKER_06: Mark, you just got back from England.
• 7:57
  SPEAKER_06: I admire you.
• 7:58
SPEAKER_06: You had to go all the way there, come all the way back, straight, straight on the podcast, and you're not even tired.
• 8:03
  SPEAKER_06: Yeah, Mark.
• 8:04
SPEAKER_05: Shout out for our friends in Scotland.
• 8:06
  SPEAKER_05: Oh, yes.
• 8:07
SPEAKER_08: You know, it was such a treat going into a church in Scotland.
• 8:10
SPEAKER_08: I just went to attend.
• 8:11
  SPEAKER_08: I wasn't preaching.
• 8:13
SPEAKER_08: And there were several people that listened to our podcast.
• 8:16
SPEAKER_08: And uh two ladies came up to me specifically pleading with us to do a podcast on uh something on we'll do that later.
• 8:24
SPEAKER_08: But um one guy was even wearing a hat.
• 8:26
SPEAKER_08: I live in Waters hat.
• 8:27
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I saw the picture.
• 8:28
  SPEAKER_08: Such a treat.
• 8:29
  SPEAKER_08: So neat.
• 8:29
  SPEAKER_08: So encouraging.
• 8:30
  SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
• 8:30
  SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
• 8:30
SPEAKER_08: And then John Harris and Danny with the uh the European Academy.
• 8:35
SPEAKER_08: Boy, what a neat group of people.
• 8:36
SPEAKER_08: Uh John and Danny, they have it dialed in.
• 8:39
SPEAKER_08: Um do it every year around uh uh Bankers Holiday.
• 8:43
SPEAKER_08: Do you guys have bankers' holidays?
• 8:44
SPEAKER_06: Yes, in New Zealand, yeah.
• 8:45
  SPEAKER_06: In New Zealand?
• 8:46
SPEAKER_08: So they do it around the bankers' holiday?
• 8:47
SPEAKER_06: Well, it's called a bank holiday, not bankers.
• 8:49
  SPEAKER_08: Bank bank holiday.
• 8:50
SPEAKER_06: So was it raining in Scotland?
• 8:51
  SPEAKER_08: It was not.
• 8:52
  SPEAKER_06: Whoa that's right.
• 8:54
  SPEAKER_08: It's beautiful.
• 8:54
SPEAKER_06: Well, you know what that means?
• 8:55
SPEAKER_06: It means it's just going to rain soon.
• 8:57
  SPEAKER_06: Yes.
• 8:57
SPEAKER_06: You get a lot of rain in Scotland.
• 8:59
  SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
• 8:59
SPEAKER_05: So, friends, if you are in Europe, anywhere in Europe, check out Living Waters Europe.
• 9:04
SPEAKER_05: They're there to serve you.
• 9:05
SPEAKER_05: And yeah, thanks, Natalie Ward, for writing in.
• 9:07
SPEAKER_05: What a blessing and an encouragement.
• 9:09
SPEAKER_05: And look, Natalie said her friends told her about the podcast, and now she's hooked.
• 9:13
SPEAKER_05: So, as Alphabeta used to say, remember, Mark?
• 9:15
  SPEAKER_05: Tell a friend.
• 9:16
  SPEAKER_05: Tell a friend.
• 9:17
SPEAKER_05: I mean the grocery store.
• 9:18
  SPEAKER_05: Tell a friend.
• 9:19
SPEAKER_05: You know you know Alphabeta.
• 9:20
SPEAKER_05: Yeah, there used to be an alphabeta in Cosmisa.
• 9:22
SPEAKER_08: Did you used to steal things from there or something?
• 9:24
  SPEAKER_05: I did.
• 9:24
SPEAKER_05: I used to steal cigarettes from Alphabeta.
• 9:26
SPEAKER_05: I stole a whole lot of things.
• 9:27
SPEAKER_05: Why do you still cigarettes behind the counter?
• 9:30
  SPEAKER_06: It's good.
• 9:30
SPEAKER_06: They weren't behind the counter.
• 9:34
  SPEAKER_04: I'll use the cigar.
• 9:36
  SPEAKER_04: Um yeah.
• 9:38
SPEAKER_05: How does like an old lady smoke cigarettes?
• 9:39
  SPEAKER_05: A cigarette and a half, a cigarette and a half, a pack and a half a day.
• 9:44
  SPEAKER_05: Somebody used to smoke.
• 9:45
  SPEAKER_05: How old were you?
• 9:46
  SPEAKER_05: I was I started at 14, went to 14 and a half to 15, almost six.
• 9:51
SPEAKER_06: Okay, did you like the first cigarette?
• 9:53
SPEAKER_05: Um this is what I remember.
• 9:55
SPEAKER_05: This is how this is how I remember I smoked it.
• 10:01
SPEAKER_00: Ladies and gentlemen, if you ever run into easy in public, ask him to do his impression of an old lady smoking a cigarette.
• 10:08
  SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
• 10:09
SPEAKER_05: It's one of my favorite things in life to do.
• 10:11
SPEAKER_05: I just it brings me pleasure.
• 10:12
  SPEAKER_05: I can't explain.
• 10:13
SPEAKER_05: You mean to do that?
• 10:14
  SPEAKER_05: Yeah, to just impersonate.
• 10:16
SPEAKER_05: Because my mom smoked and I would watch her, and it just got so ingrained in my mind.
• 10:20
SPEAKER_05: And when I when I did it in front of Mark the first time, he freaked out because he's like, that's what my mom and grandma used to.
• 10:25
  SPEAKER_08: Totally.
• 10:25
SPEAKER_02: But smoking is taking the top lip.
• 10:31
SPEAKER_06: It really is though, it just needs some act, and I go, and then about three minutes later, out comes a smoke as he's talking, and that was supposed to be cool.
• 10:40
  SPEAKER_06: It's really dumb.
• 10:41
  SPEAKER_06: So dumb.
• 10:42
  SPEAKER_05: All right.
• 10:43
SPEAKER_05: It was great to hear Hal Good in Scotland, but a podcast ranking shout out, the number 10 top Christian podcast in Indonesia.
• 10:51
SPEAKER_05: Top 37 of all religions and spirituality.
• 10:55
SPEAKER_05: And guys, listen, Indonesia has 283 million people.
• 10:59
SPEAKER_05: It's the largest Muslim population in the world, 227 million Muslims.
• 11:03
SPEAKER_06: So how close is that to Singapore?
• 11:06
SPEAKER_06: Actually, Singapore makes me think of your singing.
• 11:08
  SPEAKER_06: I think it's pretty cool.
• 11:09
SPEAKER_02: Oh, thank you for reminding me.
• 11:11
  SPEAKER_02: I love to sing.
• 11:12
SPEAKER_02: You see, I want to sing some more.
• 11:14
SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna sing in Singapore.
• 11:16
  SPEAKER_02: Singapore.
• 11:18
  SPEAKER_05: Poor sing Singapore.
• 11:20
  SPEAKER_02: All right, friends.
• 11:21
SPEAKER_02: Time for radical remarkable radically revolutionary resource.
• 11:25
SPEAKER_05: This podcast is about team.
• 11:27
SPEAKER_05: The million dollar gospel of John.
• 11:30
  SPEAKER_05: I love that.
• 11:31
SPEAKER_05: It's one of those things where I never get tired of looking at it.
• 11:34
  SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
• 11:34
  SPEAKER_05: Seriously.
• 11:35
  SPEAKER_06: It's always fascinating, isn't it?
• 11:36
  SPEAKER_06: Really brilliant.
• 11:37
SPEAKER_06: I remember the day that it came, you were just raving.
• 11:39
  SPEAKER_05: Oh.
• 11:39
SPEAKER_05: And don't forget the vault, friend.
• 11:41
  SPEAKER_05: The vault.
• 11:42
  SPEAKER_05: Uh France.
• 11:43
SPEAKER_05: Uh hundred holds a hundred?
• 11:44
  SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
• 11:45
  SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
• 11:45
  SPEAKER_05: Unless one's missing, then it's 99.
• 11:48
  SPEAKER_05: Looks like a vault.
• 11:48
SPEAKER_05: What about if there's two missing?
• 11:50
SPEAKER_05: And when you when you run out, you what?
• 11:53
  SPEAKER_06: What?
• 11:54
  SPEAKER_06: Oh, you revolt.
• 11:56
  SPEAKER_06: Revolt.
• 11:57
  unknown: All right.
• 11:57
SPEAKER_03: Don't forget the Living Waters among them to Study Bible, uh, Living Waters TV, all that.
• 12:02
  SPEAKER_02: Living Watercom.
• 12:08
SPEAKER_04: We can always do that.
• 12:09
SPEAKER_05: And don't forget the podcast YouTube channel.
• 12:11
SPEAKER_05: Join the throngs, the tens of thousands on there.
• 12:15
SPEAKER_05: All right, today, friends, we're talking about how knowledge produces accountability.
• 12:20
  SPEAKER_05: Scary thought, isn't it?
• 12:21
SPEAKER_05: Do you guys remember what one of my biggest pet peeves in life is, besides the three of you?
• 12:26
  SPEAKER_05: Cotton on your teeth?
• 12:28
  SPEAKER_05: No.
• 12:30
  SPEAKER_05: In between the teeth.
• 12:32
  SPEAKER_05: I didn't even anticipate.
• 12:33
  SPEAKER_06: Oh, that's awful.
• 12:34
SPEAKER_06: Flock of sheep between teeth.
• 12:36
  SPEAKER_05: No.
• 12:36
  SPEAKER_05: Okay.
• 12:37
SPEAKER_05: One of my worst pet peeves in life is when you're giving someone advice, counsel, and they keep saying, I know.
• 12:45
  SPEAKER_05: Oh, I know.
• 12:45
  SPEAKER_05: I know.
• 12:46
  SPEAKER_05: I know.
• 12:46
  SPEAKER_05: Oh, I know.
• 12:47
SPEAKER_05: But no, but it's not that I've talked about it before.
• 12:49
SPEAKER_05: It's not that like, uh, I know.
• 12:51
  SPEAKER_05: No, it's like, I know.
• 12:52
  SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I know.
• 12:53
  SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I know.
• 12:54
SPEAKER_08: And they still have their problems, they still have their issues, and you're trying to give the answer, and they know that's I know.
• 12:59
  SPEAKER_05: I know.
• 13:00
  SPEAKER_05: I know.
• 13:02
SPEAKER_05: You get to that brink where you want to say, okay, then goodbye, you know.
• 13:06
SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I have nothing to give you.
• 13:07
SPEAKER_06: Do you get to that point?
• 13:09
  SPEAKER_05: Uh in my heart.
• 13:10
  SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
• 13:11
SPEAKER_05: In my wicked little heart.
• 13:13
  SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
• 13:14
SPEAKER_05: But I think uh in that vein, sometimes people think that they're special because they know, and yet they know, but they do not do.
• 13:25
SPEAKER_06: In that vein, I had a blood test the other day and they couldn't get the vein.
• 13:29
SPEAKER_06: Tell us about your vein, right?
• 13:30
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, they couldn't find it.
• 13:32
SPEAKER_06: Well, this lady couldn't find it, and they had to wrap a thing around it, and then they found it and they had a blood test, and everything's fine.
• 13:37
  SPEAKER_06: So that's really neat.
• 13:38
SPEAKER_06: What is your blood type?
• 13:38
  SPEAKER_06: Mother's Manium Selfiscope.
• 13:41
  SPEAKER_06: Oh, that's outstanding.
• 13:42
  SPEAKER_06: Yeah, oh.
• 13:43
  SPEAKER_06: I think it's oh.
• 13:44
  SPEAKER_06: Isn't that what's yours, Oscar?
• 13:45
  SPEAKER_00: I have no idea.
• 13:46
  SPEAKER_00: I don't either.
• 13:47
SPEAKER_00: We should find out in case you're dying and they say you want to look?
• 13:50
  SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
• 13:51
SPEAKER_06: What's the blood you type?
• 13:52
  SPEAKER_06: Red.
• 13:53
  SPEAKER_06: Yeah, it's red.
• 13:54
  SPEAKER_06: It's purple and then it's red.
• 13:55
  SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
• 13:55
SPEAKER_05: I'm gonna change my name to Emile's vein.
• 13:58
  SPEAKER_05: Emil's vein.
• 13:59
SPEAKER_05: I feel that in my heart.
• 14:01
  SPEAKER_05: One of your hearts.
• 14:03
SPEAKER_05: So yeah, um, man, knowledge and accountability.
• 14:07
SPEAKER_05: Um, what comes to mind is is what Jesus said.
• 14:11
  SPEAKER_05: Matthew 7, 24 to 27.
• 14:13
SPEAKER_05: Therefore, whoever hears these sayings of mine and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock.
• 14:20
SPEAKER_05: And the rain descended, the floods came, the winds blew, beat on the house, and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock.
• 14:26
SPEAKER_05: But everyone who hears these sayings of mine, in other words, what, knows them and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand.
• 14:34
SPEAKER_05: And the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, and it fell, and great was its ruin.
• 14:41
SPEAKER_06: That was such a good point you brought up, because often we attribute that to unbelievers.
• 14:45
SPEAKER_06: You haven't built your life on the teachings of Jesus.
• 14:47
SPEAKER_06: No, it says, Whoever hears my sayings and does not do them will keep them.
• 14:52
SPEAKER_06: And there's there's multitudes that call Jesus Lord and do not the things that he tells them.
• 14:56
SPEAKER_06: They're the ones that will cry, Lord, Lord, and say, Depart from me, you worker of iniquity, I never knew you.
• 15:00
SPEAKER_06: So it's tragic that people don't realize they're not built on the sayings of Jesus until the storms come and they crash.
• 15:09
  SPEAKER_05: Wow.
• 15:09
  SPEAKER_08: What is that saying?
• 15:10
SPEAKER_08: Uh was it like insanity is doing the same thing and expecting different results.
• 15:15
  SPEAKER_08: What is it?
• 15:15
  SPEAKER_08: You said it before.
• 15:16
  SPEAKER_08: What is it?
• 15:19
SPEAKER_05: It was attributed to Einstein, but I don't know if it's not.
• 15:20
SPEAKER_05: Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.
• 15:24
  SPEAKER_06: I don't know if it's true.
• 15:25
SPEAKER_06: Insanity is driving your car the wrong way up the freeway.
• 15:29
SPEAKER_06: Why'd you bring that up though?
• 15:31
SPEAKER_05: Well, you brought it up.
• 15:33
SPEAKER_06: That was all that just for then.
• 15:35
SPEAKER_06: You trying to kill it.
• 15:36
  SPEAKER_05: I saw you.
• 15:37
  SPEAKER_05: I saw you gone.
• 15:38
  SPEAKER_05: It's true though.
• 15:39
  SPEAKER_05: It is true.
• 15:40
SPEAKER_05: The the the the madness of trying to again like expecting a different result.
• 15:47
SPEAKER_05: It's like, man, I jumped off that building again and I didn't float.
• 15:51
SPEAKER_05: You know, like, no, it's it you're going you're going to drop every time.
• 15:57
SPEAKER_05: And and we know what amazes me?
• 16:00
SPEAKER_05: How often do we hear people say Jesus was a good moral teacher?
• 16:06
SPEAKER_05: And and my curiosity is how much of what he taught that good moral teacher, how much of it do you do?
• 16:13
SPEAKER_05: Well, you know, I mean, if someone is such a good moral teacher, they impacted human history that our very dating system revolves around their life, you'd think we'd look and say, Oh, what did he say?
• 16:22
SPEAKER_06: And also, you gotta remember that two billion people stop work every year to celebrate his birthday.
• 16:26
  unknown: Wow.
• 16:27
SPEAKER_06: Two billion people, two thousand years later, stop work to celebrate his birthday.
• 16:32
SPEAKER_06: Who in history has done that?
• 16:38
  SPEAKER_05: I know.
• 16:39
SPEAKER_06: And uh, you know, I wonder And we know that December the 25th wasn't the birthday of Jesus, yes.
• 16:45
SPEAKER_06: Don't eat up when was it?
• 16:46
  SPEAKER_06: You didn't know that?
• 16:47
  SPEAKER_06: That's 24th, was it?
• 16:50
SPEAKER_08: Well, according to uh Jehovah's Witnesses, they believe it's like October 2nd.
• 16:54
  SPEAKER_08: Oh, well.
• 16:55
  SPEAKER_08: Oh, do they really?
• 16:56
  SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
• 16:56
SPEAKER_05: Oh, well, that's more presence.
• 16:58
SPEAKER_05: Guys, just on that note, I I'm just I'm kind of reminiscing in my in my mind how how great was it having that sister on who is a former Jehovah's Witness?
• 17:06
SPEAKER_06: We haven't put it up yet.
• 17:07
SPEAKER_06: I'm still uh editing it.
• 17:09
SPEAKER_00: Oh, you're still working on it.
• 17:10
SPEAKER_00: Well, by the time this goes up, it'll have been up.
• 17:13
SPEAKER_00: So you have to live as though you're in the future.
• 17:16
SPEAKER_05: I thought Ray would clue into that, but never mind.
• 17:19
SPEAKER_05: Yeah, but but guys, um accountability.
• 17:24
  SPEAKER_05: What?
• 17:24
  SPEAKER_05: I was teasing.
• 17:25
  SPEAKER_05: Oh.
• 17:26
  SPEAKER_05: Oh, yeah, right.
• 17:28
  SPEAKER_05: Um but uh Accountability?
• 17:31
  SPEAKER_05: Yeah, accountability, man.
• 17:33
  SPEAKER_08: What a squirrel.
• 17:35
SPEAKER_08: Yeah, you guys are so distracted.
• 17:36
SPEAKER_06: I hate to be an accountant.
• 17:39
SPEAKER_05: Um but but accountability linked with knowledge.
• 17:44
SPEAKER_05: Um it's it's scary sometimes when you think about like the imagine the president of the United States, like what he knows and what he's asked.
• 17:58
SPEAKER_05: And it's not just like, okay, you you're accountable, you know these these important things, but what you have to be careful to say or not to say, because you're held liable for that as well.
• 18:09
  SPEAKER_05: You know, it's it's it's really a big deal.
• 18:12
SPEAKER_05: But what is it, Oscar, that keeps people from knowing and not doing?
• 18:18
  SPEAKER_05: Where's that disconnect?
• 18:21
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I think we've said before that one of the big problems today is that we're knowledge rich but wisdom poor.
• 18:29
SPEAKER_00: We have more access to information and knowledge and answers than anybody ever has.
• 18:35
SPEAKER_00: Like we are, um, I use this as hyperbole, we're almost omniscient, hyperbole, in the sense that we have a phone that can answer any question that we can possibly imagine.
• 18:48
SPEAKER_00: There's where for most of human history, for you to seek knowledge, it was a process.
• 18:54
SPEAKER_00: Usually the best way is to mentorship as a disciple under another person, and you would grow in your knowledge over years.
• 19:01
SPEAKER_00: You know, the rabbis would literally journey and live with other rabbis uh in order for them to gain in with knowledge and wisdom in the old testament.
• 19:11
SPEAKER_00: And now we almost have this bypass where we can absorb as much knowledge as more, honestly, we can absorb more knowledge than our brains are capable of holding, and yet we're starved for wisdom.
• 19:26
SPEAKER_00: And I think that's one of the big problems.
• 19:27
SPEAKER_00: I love the way that um oh uh uh Kevin D.
• 19:32
SPEAKER_00: Young I was gonna say uh he wrote this, Kevin D.
• 19:36
  SPEAKER_00: Young.
• 19:36
SPEAKER_00: He said, the problem is not too much knowledge or too much doctrine or caring too much about thinking.
• 19:42
SPEAKER_00: The problem is when knowledge of God becomes a vat instead of a vessel.
• 19:47
SPEAKER_00: Doctrinal knowledge is to the Christian life what blood is to the human body.
• 19:52
SPEAKER_00: If the blood flows through vessels, it literally gives life to the whole body.
• 19:57
SPEAKER_00: But if you just collected blood in a big bucket, some kind of grotesque vat, then you've got something unnatural going on.
• 20:04
SPEAKER_00: Blood isn't meant to be stored in a vat, it's meant to flow through vessels and veins and arteries.
• 20:09
SPEAKER_00: Likewise, knowledge is not meant to be pulled in a giant theological noggin.
• 20:14
SPEAKER_00: Good doctrine and a robust understanding of God is meant to flow through us, producing fruit, leading to worship and making us more like Christ.
• 20:24
SPEAKER_00: That happens in the context of growing in wisdom, not knowledge.
• 20:28
SPEAKER_06: Boy, doesn't it put a picture in your brain when you hear that those sort of words?
• 20:32
SPEAKER_06: Blood throwing, going through the body, pumped by the heart, keeping us warm, keeping us alive.
• 20:37
  SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I love that.
• 20:38
SPEAKER_05: Yeah, and I'll tell you, in terms of knowledge bringing accountability, you know, like if you ever see someone do something that they don't know, like there's times when maybe someone will be sitting on a railing or something, and there's a sign that says no sitting, but they didn't see it, and someone comes and says, Oh, you're not supposed to be sitting here.
• 20:59
SPEAKER_05: The response, it's so different from the person who knew but was doing it.
• 21:03
SPEAKER_05: Someone who's sitting there and know, oh, oh, I'm so sorry, versus like, oh, okay, you know, type thing.
• 21:09
SPEAKER_05: And I'll tell you, Rachel ruined my life at one point.
• 21:13
  SPEAKER_05: Wow.
• 21:13
SPEAKER_05: Yeah, can you believe it?
• 21:15
SPEAKER_05: She uh, you guys know during COVID, we got our dog Willow.
• 21:20
  SPEAKER_05: Willow the wonder dog.
• 21:21
SPEAKER_05: I always see, you know, here in LA County, they shut us down.
• 21:24
SPEAKER_05: We had a skeleton crew here, but most of us had to work from home.
• 21:27
SPEAKER_05: So we just got her and COVID hits, and so I was able to train her for a year and a half.
• 21:32
SPEAKER_05: And my greatest joy was walking her from our house to the park, which is like a mile away, off leash.
• 21:38
SPEAKER_05: And she walked perfectly as if though she had a leash.
• 21:41
SPEAKER_05: But she would walk right by my side and wouldn't go ahead of me, wouldn't go behind me, right by my side.
• 21:45
  SPEAKER_05: When I top, she'd sit.
• 21:47
SPEAKER_05: When I'd move, she'd move with me.
• 21:48
  SPEAKER_05: She would shadow me.
• 21:49
  SPEAKER_05: I'd walk backwards, she'd walk backwards.
• 21:51
SPEAKER_05: I mean, it was the joy of my life.
• 21:55
SPEAKER_05: Until Rachel looked up the city ordinance and said, Oh, did you know that they launched?
• 22:00
SPEAKER_02: You can't walk off lace.
• 22:05
  SPEAKER_02: That's why I stopped.
• 22:06
SPEAKER_05: But it it destroyed me.
• 22:08
  SPEAKER_05: Accountability based on knowledge.
• 22:11
SPEAKER_05: So I told her never to look up anything again like that.
• 22:15
SPEAKER_05: So so yeah, so Ray, what what were some of the things as as a newer believer that you received knowledge of that that changed your life?
• 22:28
  SPEAKER_06: Nothing much.
• 22:30
SPEAKER_06: Um I I think is um I was thinking this morning how unbelievers have no idea of their responsibility towards God.
• 22:42
SPEAKER_06: You ask an unbeliever, what does God require of you?
• 22:44
SPEAKER_06: I don't know, just believe in him.
• 22:46
SPEAKER_06: But everything they've got comes from God.
• 22:49
  SPEAKER_06: They owe him everything.
• 22:51
SPEAKER_06: And the rhetorical question is, what have you got you didn't receive?
• 22:54
SPEAKER_06: And they don't realize that ingratitude, even out of ignorance, is a gross sin.
• 23:01
SPEAKER_06: You're commanded to love the Lord your God with all your heart, mind, soul, and strength.
• 23:04
SPEAKER_06: So as a uh when I became a Christian, I thought I've got someone to thank for life because as an ignorant non-Christian, I never thank God for anything.
• 23:14
SPEAKER_06: You know what do you think of some little kid who comes up and you say, Kitty, here's a here's some candy for you, and he snatches it and walks off.
• 23:19
SPEAKER_06: You feel like saying, You little brat, give it back.
• 23:21
SPEAKER_06: I was like a little brat for 22 years.
• 23:23
SPEAKER_06: Never gave thanks for my food.
• 23:25
SPEAKER_06: Never sat at a table, bowed my head, said God, you gave me taste buds, you gave me food, you gave me eyes, you gave me a brain, you gave me a family, friends, you gave me the blueness of the sky, the sound of birds, all these things.
• 23:35
SPEAKER_06: God lavished his goodness upon humanity, and what do they do?
• 23:38
SPEAKER_06: Hate him without cause and use his name as a cuss word.
• 23:40
SPEAKER_06: And that's a gr ingratitude is a gross sin.
• 23:44
  SPEAKER_06: And that's what's required of them.
• 23:46
SPEAKER_06: To love God that gave you life with all your heart, mind, soul, and strength.
• 23:50
SPEAKER_06: And think of those ten lepers.
• 23:51
SPEAKER_06: Only one returned to give God thanks.
• 23:54
  SPEAKER_06: And that's like humanity.
• 23:55
SPEAKER_06: Most people couldn't care less about giving God thanks.
• 23:58
SPEAKER_06: But when you're a Christian, it's an absolute joy and reasonable service to enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise.
• 24:06
  SPEAKER_06: Amen.
• 24:07
SPEAKER_06: It just flows from your heart.
• 24:08
  SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
• 24:09
SPEAKER_05: You know, Mark, um oftentimes people fear accountability.
• 24:16
SPEAKER_05: But for the Christian, it's it's something we should really delight in.
• 24:21
SPEAKER_05: Like, I I want to be accountable.
• 24:23
SPEAKER_05: I mean, uh, in the sense that like when we talk about it in terms of like with each other's friends and people, um you can have an accountability partner, but you don't tell them the truth.
• 24:34
SPEAKER_05: You may give the kind of appearance of wanting accountability, but isn't there a safety in in accountability?
• 24:41
SPEAKER_05: Meaning, like you have knowledge, others have knowledge of your life, your struggles, your battles, what you're supposed to do, and then they call you to account on that.
• 24:49
  SPEAKER_05: It's a good thing.
• 24:50
  SPEAKER_08: It's such a good thing.
• 24:51
SPEAKER_08: You know, you know you realize that you, with your naked eye, you have never seen the back of your head.
• 24:55
SPEAKER_08: Is that something that you've come up with?
• 24:57
  SPEAKER_08: I don't remember where it's like.
• 24:58
SPEAKER_06: Well, you have to be really quick, really fast.
• 25:00
  SPEAKER_08: There it is again.
• 25:01
  SPEAKER_06: Oh, that's so funny.
• 25:02
SPEAKER_05: We were watching a video of our kids when they were small, uh, Julian Summer.
• 25:06
SPEAKER_05: They were like three, two, three, or four.
• 25:08
SPEAKER_05: And I told them, Hey, Julia, I want you to look at the back of your head.
• 25:12
SPEAKER_05: I want you to, I want you to to look at your chin.
• 25:14
SPEAKER_05: And they're like, they're trying to do it, and they're like frustrated, like, look at your back.
• 25:18
SPEAKER_06: I've never you've never seen the front of your face either.
• 25:21
  SPEAKER_06: Ah.
• 25:21
  SPEAKER_06: Ever.
• 25:22
  SPEAKER_06: No one has.
• 25:22
  SPEAKER_05: It's crazy.
• 25:23
  SPEAKER_05: I started getting claustrophobic.
• 25:24
SPEAKER_06: You can see pictures of it, you can see it reflected in a mirror, but you cannot see a face.
• 25:29
  SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
• 25:29
  SPEAKER_06: Which is just crazy.
• 25:31
SPEAKER_06: And you've got your kids looking at their chin.
• 25:33
SPEAKER_06: What about what you ought to tell some kid to smell the bottom of a swimming pool.
• 25:38
SPEAKER_04: We talked about it the other day.
• 25:39
SPEAKER_08: I can't believe you did that to that poor kid.
• 25:41
SPEAKER_08: You know, knowledge was never meant to terminate upon itself, right?
• 25:46
SPEAKER_08: Knowledge is designed to lead to obedience.
• 25:51
SPEAKER_08: But not only not only that, I try to teach my kids that, and even myself, right?
• 25:56
SPEAKER_08: Because it's it's something that we we've kind of learned, is that you you don't want to waste anything, right?
• 26:00
SPEAKER_08: Somebody does you wrong, you can get bitter or you can get better, right?
• 26:04
SPEAKER_08: So the idea to get better is what did I just learn?
• 26:07
  SPEAKER_08: They did me wrong.
• 26:08
SPEAKER_08: All right, so now in the future, I don't want to do what they did to me to somebody else.
• 26:12
SPEAKER_08: So you always want to have a takeaway in the midst of anything that kind of goes your way, right?
• 26:17
SPEAKER_08: When it when it comes down to I I'll learn different things on uh on Instagram and I'll send a reel to my kids, I'll send it to Ohana, my family, and I'll send it to my wife.
• 26:28
SPEAKER_08: And then my daughter asks my wife, how many of dad's reels do you watch that he sends you?
• 26:37
SPEAKER_08: She says, Oh, none of them.
• 26:40
SPEAKER_08: I'm like, I'm sending things that I wish my parents, my dad would have taught me, right?
• 26:44
SPEAKER_08: Like this is what you're supposed to do.
• 26:46
SPEAKER_08: Never let your gas get below a you know, a quarter of a tank of gas or something.
• 26:50
SPEAKER_08: Then it explains why I go, well, that's really good information.
• 26:53
SPEAKER_08: Let me send that to my wife.
• 26:54
SPEAKER_08: Doesn't watch any of the things that I send her.
• 26:56
SPEAKER_08: Like, how long have you been doing this?
• 27:00
  SPEAKER_08: It is so true.
• 27:01
SPEAKER_08: But then I look at like the the the correspondence that she has with our daughters, and then there's like funny memes and stuff.
• 27:09
SPEAKER_08: I go, how is that more important than learning about this when it comes to some life experience?
• 27:15
SPEAKER_06: She's all you you just take care of everything.
• 27:18
SPEAKER_06: So, what is your titling to them?
• 27:19
SPEAKER_06: Do you say, I want you to watch this, or do you have to do that?
• 27:22
SPEAKER_08: No, I just sent it to him.
• 27:22
SPEAKER_06: I just figured you probably have to say something like, Don't watch this.
• 27:25
SPEAKER_08: If Oscar sends me something through Instagram, you know, it's gonna be good.
• 27:28
SPEAKER_08: I will I realize that he went out of his way, he thought of me, I'm going to watch it.
• 27:33
SPEAKER_08: Without a shout, if somebody sends something, one of you guys sends something to me, I'm going to watch it.
• 27:37
  SPEAKER_04: No.
• 27:38
SPEAKER_08: Not my kids, not my wife.
• 27:40
SPEAKER_08: It's just not the way it is.
• 27:41
  SPEAKER_00: Very similar.
• 27:42
SPEAKER_08: Do you have a therapist?
• 27:43
  SPEAKER_00: He needs one.
• 27:44
  SPEAKER_08: Yeah, it's you.
• 27:46
SPEAKER_00: I will say this in regards to accountability.
• 27:49
SPEAKER_00: Years ago, uh, there was this gentleman who went to our church, and him and his wife uh, for great reasons ended moving out of state, got a job, whatever the case.
• 27:57
SPEAKER_00: But in that process, he used to have me signed up on this program where it would like send me weekly updates on his internet usage to hold him accountable in regards to lust.
• 28:08
SPEAKER_00: And so when he gets to this new church, it's a few months now, and I send him a message like, hey man, you need to get this transferred.
• 28:14
SPEAKER_00: Like, I'm we're not we're not going to church together anymore.
• 28:17
SPEAKER_00: And he was kind of reluctant to do it.
• 28:19
SPEAKER_00: And he was reluctant for a couple of reasons.
• 28:21
SPEAKER_00: One, because he hadn't found somebody where he needed to confess that past experience in his own life.
• 28:27
  SPEAKER_00: There's a couple of reasons why.
• 28:28
SPEAKER_00: But it also brought up in my mind what actual accountability ought to be.
• 28:34
SPEAKER_00: It's interesting that in Christian circles, to be accountable is simply to confess your failures to one another.
• 28:41
SPEAKER_00: But as you look at the scriptures and how, and actually, as you look at the early church and how uh the early Christians did life together, accountability was more like gleaning spiritual maturity from one another, not just discussing failures to one another.
• 29:00
SPEAKER_00: So if you think about it, like we apply this to any other area of our life.
• 29:03
SPEAKER_00: If I'm trying to make a basketball team, uh, I don't ask someone to show up at practice and point out every time I miss a shot.
• 29:11
SPEAKER_00: I find someone who is interested in making the team as well, and we look up for the recipes of success.
• 29:18
SPEAKER_00: We glean from one another, we push each other towards the goal.
• 29:22
SPEAKER_00: In that same way, accountability to me isn't just a successful accountability partner, isn't just someone who's there to be like, so did you fail this week?
• 29:30
SPEAKER_00: It's someone who's stepping into life with you, pulling you towards the goodness and glory of Christ, making you more like Jesus as you run the race together.
• 29:39
  SPEAKER_00: That's great.
• 29:40
  SPEAKER_05: Yeah, amen.
• 29:40
  SPEAKER_05: I love that, Oscar.
• 29:41
SPEAKER_05: The things that happened, that happened in the course of accountability, man, it can be glorious.
• 29:46
SPEAKER_05: Yesterday I was meeting with a brother and and we were we were talking and I was sharing things with him that I was learning.
• 29:52
SPEAKER_05: And it was so encouraging to hear him go, man, I am so excited right now.
• 29:57
SPEAKER_05: Like I'm so loving this, you know.
• 29:59
SPEAKER_05: That that's what real accountability does, right, in terms of our fellowship.
• 30:05
SPEAKER_05: And again, we're talking about knowledge and accountability and and knowing one another and then knowing that someone knows us.
• 30:14
SPEAKER_05: That there's such something that God has put in us, in our human natures, people, that that finds great significance in being known.
• 30:24
SPEAKER_05: Like, why else do we get excited to tell a story about what happened in our lives or something that we're going through?
• 30:30
SPEAKER_05: I can't explain what that emotion is that I feel, but as I'm doing it, there's something cathartic that's happening.
• 30:36
SPEAKER_05: There's something almost healing that's going on.
• 30:40
SPEAKER_05: You know, I mean, I I don't know, I just thought of out uh castaway the movie.
• 30:46
SPEAKER_05: We just watched that with the sound, was it sound down?
• 30:49
SPEAKER_05: But the sound completely off the whole movie.
• 30:51
  SPEAKER_05: Right.
• 30:52
SPEAKER_05: So I mean, the guy, and and I'm sure they based this on you really don't need sound, do you?
• 30:57
SPEAKER_05: Wilson! Yeah, well, but but I'm I didn't know he said that.
• 31:00
SPEAKER_05: Well, how did you know he said this is based on just observing human behavior?
• 31:08
SPEAKER_05: You know, it's like you know, when you see kids that are left alone in orphanages and third world countries, I know there's no more third world countries, but they start rocking, right?
• 31:17
SPEAKER_05: And it's common, you see it happen.
• 31:19
SPEAKER_05: But but that movie blew me away.
• 31:21
SPEAKER_05: He creates a companion through a ball.
• 31:25
SPEAKER_05: Like to be able to connect.
• 31:28
SPEAKER_06: That's when he went mental.
• 31:30
SPEAKER_06: That was a dumb movie when you think about it.
• 31:32
SPEAKER_06: He didn't open a package and it probably had Novocaine in it.
• 31:35
  SPEAKER_06: And a cell phone.
• 31:37
  SPEAKER_06: International cell phone.
• 31:39
SPEAKER_06: I'm on a I'm on an island, come and get me.
• 31:41
  SPEAKER_06: Emergency fake.
• 31:42
SPEAKER_06: Did they ever find out what was in that?
• 31:44
  SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
• 31:45
  SPEAKER_06: No.
• 31:46
  SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
• 31:46
SPEAKER_06: That was international cell phone, Novocaine.
• 31:50
SPEAKER_00: But uh there's actually a deep meaning behind the box.
• 31:53
  SPEAKER_00: Of course there is.
• 31:54
SPEAKER_00: Uh the box represents hope.
• 31:57
SPEAKER_00: And so on the box, there's angel's wings and a halo.
• 32:00
SPEAKER_00: And and the point is, uh, so so Victor Frankel, I'm gonna mess that name up.
• 32:06
  SPEAKER_00: I apologize.
• 32:07
SPEAKER_00: It is uh search for the man's search for meaning.
• 32:10
SPEAKER_00: He was in a concentration camp and he observed that people would, he said you would get your food rations and that you would eat and consume, and and the more energy you had, the harder you worked.
• 32:22
SPEAKER_00: And he recognized that as people lost hope and meaning, they would start exchanging their food rations for short-term pleasure like cigarettes.
• 32:32
SPEAKER_00: And he said, that was the moment I realized they only have about a week or two left of life.
• 32:37
SPEAKER_00: They would give up on hope and meaning.
• 32:40
SPEAKER_00: Uh, he says, like, that's the thing that drove so many people through that were able to live through those horrible times.
• 32:47
SPEAKER_00: And so if you apply that to that movie, that box, uh, everything in his life is chaos.
• 32:53
SPEAKER_00: It's it's basically he's on this island and it is survival of the fittest.
• 32:58
  SPEAKER_00: It's Darwinian evolution.
• 32:59
SPEAKER_00: Um, but survival of the fittest isn't enough reason to live.
• 33:03
SPEAKER_00: He has this box with angel's wings and a halo.
• 33:06
SPEAKER_00: It's made by an artist.
• 33:07
SPEAKER_00: It has something to do with beauty, like it has meaning in it.
• 33:11
SPEAKER_00: So he holds on to meaning, and at the end of the movie, he delivers that to the artist who had the box.
• 33:18
SPEAKER_06: For those who have never seen it, could you give a synopsis of the movie?
• 33:22
SPEAKER_00: I kind of just did.
• 33:22
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
• 33:23
SPEAKER_00: So the whole movie opens with a FedEx uh manager who's on an airplane with a bunch of packages.
• 33:28
SPEAKER_00: He crash lands in the middle of the ocean, only survivor, ends up on an island, and then it's it's a couple of boxes wash ashore, and it's basically him trying to survive and get back home.
• 33:39
SPEAKER_00: He's he's got a girl to go home to and all that stuff.
• 33:41
SPEAKER_06: So it's on the island for what?
• 33:43
  SPEAKER_06: Two days?
• 33:43
  SPEAKER_00: No, no, no.
• 33:44
  SPEAKER_00: He's on forever.
• 33:45
  SPEAKER_04: He's on forever.
• 33:46
  SPEAKER_04: Two days.
• 33:49
SPEAKER_04: That's what it would not forever would feel like that for a two day.
• 33:52
SPEAKER_04: It would die of boredom, not lumber boredom.
• 33:55
  SPEAKER_06: It's endless.
• 33:56
SPEAKER_06: So was it good for fittings or bad?
• 33:58
  SPEAKER_05: Good.
• 33:59
  SPEAKER_05: Good.
• 33:59
SPEAKER_06: So you go Fiddix and they'll crash your plane and you might get bad.
• 34:03
SPEAKER_05: That five that final scene at the end, like when he gets back and he's all clean shaven and it's like But she didn't, she'd gotten married.
• 34:09
SPEAKER_06: This lady had gotten married to another guy.
• 34:12
  SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
• 34:12
SPEAKER_00: Which is also, we watched it with our kids and we pointed out like relationship, a person isn't enough to live for because if he if his only reason to live was that woman, he would have lost meaning, he would have lost a meaning for life.
• 34:27
SPEAKER_00: She she did, she can't, she was a functional savior.
• 34:30
SPEAKER_00: His meaning to live was the beauty, the potential of the beauty in the box, the meaning of the box.
• 34:34
  SPEAKER_06: And that bowl.
• 34:34
SPEAKER_06: So get your living waters bowl and put it in waters.com.
• 34:37
  SPEAKER_05: Can you imagine?
• 34:38
SPEAKER_05: Just in case you get stranded.
• 34:41
  SPEAKER_05: Oh man.
• 34:42
SPEAKER_05: Um, you know, there's there's that saying I love that says, every new thing learned about God is a new reason for loving him.
• 34:52
  SPEAKER_05: Wow, that's really beautiful.
• 34:53
SPEAKER_05: And it's true because, you know, sometimes I think people don't want to learn more about God because they're afraid of how that obligates them or the accountability that they'll have.
• 35:06
SPEAKER_05: They have this sense, well, if I don't know that, then then that's fine.
• 35:09
SPEAKER_05: But but the more they learn, the more they they they they fear.
• 35:13
  SPEAKER_05: But Mark, that's that's backwards, isn't it?
• 35:16
SPEAKER_05: It's it's twisted in the sense that that we should want to know because God's our designer.
• 35:23
  SPEAKER_08: That's right.
• 35:23
SPEAKER_08: And let him who glories, glory in this, that he knows me, that he understands me.
• 35:27
  SPEAKER_08: Uh John 17, 3.
• 35:29
SPEAKER_08: This is life eternal, that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you've sent.
• 35:35
SPEAKER_08: So the idea in the journey and our new hobby is to know God more than the guy next to us, which isn't that hard when you're sitting next to Ray.
• 35:45
SPEAKER_08: But what we want to do is we want to have uh this unfettered access to God.
• 35:53
SPEAKER_08: And the only way you could actually do that, to worship him in spirit and in truth, it's not just being honest before God in truth, but it's the more you know God, the more you know his dealings, the more you can worship him properly.
• 36:07
  SPEAKER_08: Right?
• 36:08
  SPEAKER_08: Your prayers change.
• 36:10
SPEAKER_08: We have prayers like, uh, Father, we pray that you would be with us right now.
• 36:15
SPEAKER_08: When he's already said that, hey, I'll never leave you, I'll never forsake you, I'm with you.
• 36:19
SPEAKER_08: You know, and so the more you know scripture, the more you don't need to pray for things that you actually already continually have.
• 36:26
SPEAKER_08: Lord, I pray that you supply all of my needs.
• 36:28
SPEAKER_08: Like what why would you, you don't need to, there's I don't I don't fault somebody for doing that, but you also see that when somebody begins to pray and they say, uh, maybe Lord, every other word.
• 36:38
SPEAKER_08: And Lord, God, Lord, we pray, Lord, that you just, Lord, you just do an amazing thing, Lord, and Lord, it's just like, hey, just kind of slow your roll.
• 36:45
SPEAKER_08: You know, time out, pause.
• 36:48
SPEAKER_08: You are talking to God.
• 36:51
SPEAKER_06: You know how to stop people doing that?
• 36:53
SPEAKER_06: You have a little buzzer whenever they're shocker should be.
• 36:59
  SPEAKER_04: Shockers.
• 37:00
SPEAKER_04: Come to our prayer meeting over here.
• 37:02
SPEAKER_04: Put the shock caller on.
• 37:03
SPEAKER_04: Why Mark doesn't ever see prayer at his church?
• 37:05
  SPEAKER_04: Lord be with us.
• 37:08
SPEAKER_00: Uh what about Ray speaks?
• 37:14
  SPEAKER_00: I lose my thought.
• 37:16
SPEAKER_00: Ray, what about the accountability to the unbeliever who's suppressing the knowledge of the existence of God?
• 37:26
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I was just thinking, how would you describe the difference between the knowledge of God that we get through creation and the knowledge of God we get through scripture?
• 37:34
SPEAKER_06: It's like there's headlines and then there's the details that come.
• 37:38
SPEAKER_06: The headline is is creation and all the rest is details of what God and His character is like.
• 37:44
SPEAKER_06: My question I'm I'm asking is what uh knowledge does the conscience have?
• 37:51
SPEAKER_06: And think of it for a minute.
• 37:53
SPEAKER_06: There's an independent reservoir within every one of us that's packed with knowledge that we didn't put there.
• 38:01
SPEAKER_06: I mean, you take a baby and put it in a room for 20 years and let it out, no iPhones, no television, no technology, no nothing.
• 38:10
SPEAKER_06: And yet he has this inherent knowledge of right and wrong.
• 38:13
SPEAKER_06: Nobody's taught it to him.
• 38:15
SPEAKER_06: It's just come because of God giving it to him, which is uh a knowledge that we're accountable to.
• 38:21
SPEAKER_06: The the knowledge of the conscience, which show the work of the law written on the heart, the conscience-bearing witness, or the thoughts of male accusing or excusing one another.
• 38:28
  SPEAKER_06: Mark, take over.
• 38:31
SPEAKER_05: Well, I I did I did want to say that this on that note.
• 38:35
SPEAKER_05: Uh Romans 19, because what may be known of God is manifest in them.
• 38:40
SPEAKER_05: What may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them.
• 38:44
SPEAKER_05: For since the creation of the world, his invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood, right, or known by the things that are made, even as eternal power and God has so that they are without excuse.
• 38:54
SPEAKER_06: So, how much knowledge is that?
• 38:56
  SPEAKER_05: Yeah, it's enough.
• 38:58
SPEAKER_08: It's enough knowledge to know that God exists, it's enough knowledge to condemn them.
• 39:03
SPEAKER_08: Yeah, uh, so everybody has that general knowledge.
• 39:06
SPEAKER_08: What they need is that special knowledge, that special revelation, which comes when we go to share the gospel with people.
• 39:13
  SPEAKER_08: Right.
• 39:13
  SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
• 39:14
  SPEAKER_05: Amen.
• 39:14
SPEAKER_05: Sorry, yeah, let me just finish.
• 39:16
SPEAKER_05: Because although they knew God, this isn't in a salvific sense, but but have understanding of those truths related to them, they did not glorify him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened.
• 39:28
SPEAKER_05: Professing to be wise, they became fools and exchanged the glory of God uh for the incorruptible God uh into an image made exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God in an image made like corruptible man, and it goes on from there.
• 39:40
SPEAKER_05: But but what's happening is that they're suppressing the truth that they know in unrighteousness.
• 39:46
SPEAKER_00: There's there's a few different theological arguments to help people understand that.
• 39:51
SPEAKER_00: The first is the cosmological argument, which is why is there something rather than nothing?
• 39:55
SPEAKER_00: Uh the second is more of a teleological argument, which is essentially recognizing that we all attest to the reality of truth, beauty, and goodness, morals and ethics.
• 40:06
SPEAKER_00: So we have a conscience, right?
• 40:08
SPEAKER_00: That those things are in us.
• 40:10
SPEAKER_00: And the fact that we have those things in us is in essence us recognizing God.
• 40:18
SPEAKER_00: So we know and yet we don't know.
• 40:19
SPEAKER_00: It reminds me of this story I heard.
• 40:22
SPEAKER_00: I don't know if you guys heard it before, but it was in Ardoff, Germany in World War II, and I'm probably mispronouncing that name, but it was this tiny little German town right outside of it, it was this terrible concentration camp.
• 40:31
SPEAKER_00: And when the Germans were defeated, uh, many of the German soldiers they would try to like clear out the concentration camp so that there would be no evidence of what actually happened.
• 40:41
SPEAKER_00: Well, Ordov, they they they they took it over before that was able to happen.
• 40:45
SPEAKER_00: And the story goes that General Patton walks into this concentration camp and he sees the bodies and he starts throwing up.
• 40:54
SPEAKER_00: And so then he demands that the people in the city come and bury the bodies.
• 40:59
SPEAKER_00: And so the people in the city are forced to walk into the concentration camp that they supported that that some of their soldiers worked at and started to bury these bodies.
• 41:08
SPEAKER_00: And shortly after that, the mayor and his wife uh take their own lives, they hang themselves and they leave a note.
• 41:15
SPEAKER_00: And the mayor says, We didn't know, but we knew.
• 41:19
  SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
• 41:20
SPEAKER_00: And that is in many ways the way the unbeliever lives their life.
• 41:25
SPEAKER_00: They don't know, but they know.
• 41:27
SPEAKER_06: We've got footage of that right at the end of 180.
• 41:29
SPEAKER_06: Do you remember that, easy?
• 41:30
  SPEAKER_06: I mean easy.
• 41:32
SPEAKER_05: No, don't insult the Deevies.
• 41:35
  SPEAKER_05: Calling Mark Easy.
• 41:36
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, they uh they knew the stench.
• 41:38
  SPEAKER_06: They saw the smoke.
• 41:39
  SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
• 41:40
SPEAKER_06: People disappearing, the trains coming.
• 41:42
SPEAKER_05: I'll tell you guys one of the proverbs that hits me most.
• 41:47
SPEAKER_05: I read through the Psalms and Proverbs every month, so this gives the Holy Spirit to hit me with this personally.
• 41:52
SPEAKER_05: Because again, and Oscar, you touch on this a lot in terms of like how when we hear sermons or or we come across something that's that's heavy, we're always thinking about how it applies to other people.
• 42:04
SPEAKER_05: And we fail to pause to say, yeah, because we look at the big thing.
• 42:07
SPEAKER_05: Oh, look at that guy out there who's fornicating, committing adultery, that guy's you know, indulging in deception or fraud or whatever.
• 42:13
SPEAKER_05: But man, remember, remember, friends, the respectable sins.
• 42:18
  SPEAKER_05: Right?
• 42:19
SPEAKER_05: Adam and Eve ate a piece of forbidden fruit in a garden thousands of years ago.
• 42:23
  SPEAKER_05: Here we are.
• 42:24
SPEAKER_05: Don't ever underestimate the severity of sin in the heart.
• 42:28
SPEAKER_05: Thank God we're under we're under grace, right?
• 42:31
SPEAKER_05: And we know our sins have been paid for as believers.
• 42:34
SPEAKER_05: But in the decisions that we make, so Proverbs 1, Proverbs 1, beginning verse 20, wisdom calls aloud outside.
• 42:41
SPEAKER_05: She raises her voice in the open squares, she cries out in the chief concourses at the opening of the gates in the city, she speaks her words.
• 42:48
SPEAKER_05: How long, you simple ones, will you love simplicity?
• 42:51
SPEAKER_05: For scorners delight in their scorning, and fools hate knowledge.
• 42:55
  SPEAKER_05: Turn at my rebuke.
• 42:57
SPEAKER_05: Surely I will pour out my spirit on you, I will make my words known to you.
• 43:01
SPEAKER_05: Because I have called and you refused, I've stretched out my hand and no one regarded, because you disdained all my counsel and would have none of my rebuke, I also will laugh at your calamity, I will mock when your terror comes, when your terror comes like a storm and your destruction comes like a whirlwind, when distress and anguish come upon you, then they will call on me, but I will not answer.
• 43:24
SPEAKER_05: They will seek me diligently, but they will not find me, because they hated knowledge and did not choose the fear of the Lord.
• 43:33
SPEAKER_05: And it goes on from there.
• 43:36
SPEAKER_05: And this is wisdom personified, right?
• 43:38
  SPEAKER_05: It's wisdom personified.
• 43:40
SPEAKER_05: Basically, the the real kind of essence of this is you have received knowledge combined with that that deep wisdom, right?
• 43:52
SPEAKER_05: Of of the fear of the Lord and infusing that into the decisions you make, but you chose to refuse it.
• 43:58
SPEAKER_05: You mocked at wisdom with When it came your way, and now wisdom's gonna mock at you.
• 44:03
SPEAKER_05: And isn't that kind of how it is?
• 44:04
SPEAKER_05: You know, when you guys have seen people in like one of one of one of the things that always strikes me is when I I've seen some of these police videos where they're trying to reason with someone.
• 44:17
SPEAKER_05: Sir, we're telling you one more time, if you don't, you know, if if you don't do this, if you don't well, I'm just letting you know this is what's gonna happen.
• 44:24
SPEAKER_05: You go to jail, and they're and then all right, turn around.
• 44:27
SPEAKER_05: And they put, oh no, no, no, no, please, please, wait, oh no, no, no.
• 44:30
SPEAKER_05: And then they'll show them sometimes in the back of the car crying, oh, I'm so sorry, but right?
• 44:35
SPEAKER_05: They're they're wanting to turn back time, they're wanting to take that advice they were given, but it's too late.
• 44:41
  SPEAKER_08: It's too late.
• 44:42
SPEAKER_08: Yeah, that's you know, drifting rarely happens overnight when you think about it.
• 44:46
SPEAKER_08: The warnings that we continually get, it it's it's such a mercy of God that God is continually trying to get us to walk that straight and narrow path.
• 44:57
SPEAKER_08: It's like, all right, so I crossed over into the carpool lane.
• 44:59
SPEAKER_08: I didn't get caught before, I'll do it again.
• 45:01
SPEAKER_08: I'm speeding, I got away with it before, I'm gonna get away with it again.
• 45:04
SPEAKER_08: I've eaten this chocolate, this chocolate isn't making me fat.
• 45:08
SPEAKER_08: I can just eat it.
• 45:09
SPEAKER_08: You know, it's like, you know, just stop a little bit.
• 45:11
SPEAKER_08: Now we take that over into the spiritual world, right?
• 45:14
SPEAKER_08: We think, well, I didn't read my Bible today and I'm fine.
• 45:17
SPEAKER_08: I didn't go to church this Sunday, I went to the river instead, I'm fine.
• 45:20
SPEAKER_08: But then when we begin to compound these things continually, we we see that they're they're just little warning signs that God continually gives us.
• 45:28
SPEAKER_08: And this is why it's so great when you guys are talking about accountability.
• 45:31
SPEAKER_08: It's just it's good to be inside of each other's lives.
• 45:33
  SPEAKER_08: Where are you at?
• 45:34
  SPEAKER_08: What are you doing?
• 45:35
SPEAKER_08: Ray used to always ask me, you know, where are you at in the word?
• 45:37
SPEAKER_08: He never asks me that.
• 45:38
  SPEAKER_08: He doesn't care anymore.
• 45:41
SPEAKER_08: He's giving up on you.
• 45:42
SPEAKER_08: Why do you give up on me?
• 45:44
SPEAKER_06: You brought back some terrible memories, easy, when you quoted um fools hate knowledge.
• 45:49
SPEAKER_06: The Living Waters paper came out 200 years ago.
• 45:51
SPEAKER_06: On the front cover, I quoted those verses, and instead of saying in huge print, fools hate knowledge, it said, Fools have knowledge.
• 46:00
SPEAKER_06: And it really told me just be careful with proofreading.
• 46:03
SPEAKER_06: You've got to proofread before something gets published.
• 46:05
  SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
• 46:05
  SPEAKER_06: And also texting.
• 46:07
SPEAKER_06: You send a text and it changes at the last second.
• 46:10
SPEAKER_05: Ah, oh, that just happened to me yesterday.
• 46:12
  SPEAKER_05: No, it's insane.
• 46:13
SPEAKER_05: I don't know how it's doing it after the fact now.
• 46:15
  SPEAKER_06: It shouldn't do that.
• 46:16
SPEAKER_06: It's saying I'm gonna make you look like an idiot right now.
• 46:19
  SPEAKER_05: Seriously.
• 46:20
SPEAKER_05: Oscar, where are you at in the Quran?
• 46:28
SPEAKER_00: I was trying to look it up on my phone because I just read, I just read something, Mark, that you were alluding to, which is that I was trying to remember the philosopher's name, I couldn't find him, but there is this philosopher that that observed that we often, our lives don't often fall apart from a catastrophic decision.
• 46:45
SPEAKER_00: That it usually happens slowly over time, over 10,000 small little choices that otherwise go unnoticed.
• 46:53
SPEAKER_00: But you add those choices up, and the sum total of your life is either something catastrophic or something beautiful.
• 47:01
SPEAKER_00: And so to your point, yeah, you you know, you think like he he makes the point, you don't wake up one day and decide I'm gonna cheat on my wife.
• 47:09
SPEAKER_00: What happens is that it starts in small, subtle ways that you let your eyes wander, you linger too long on ideas and thoughts, you you you uh uh expose yourself to images that's going to entice your imagination, and you do that over time, and then and you end up into something catastrophic.
• 47:28
SPEAKER_00: And so the opposite is true.
• 47:30
SPEAKER_00: Like if we fill our our life full of a thousand passive choices that are destructive, we also have the possibility to fill our lives full of 10,000 positive choices that guide us towards the kind of life that we want to live.
• 47:46
SPEAKER_06: Was that Wayne Dyer that says that?
• 47:48
  SPEAKER_06: Maybe.
• 47:48
  SPEAKER_06: I don't know.
• 47:48
SPEAKER_05: Yeah, and you know decisions, decisions beget other decisions.
• 47:54
SPEAKER_05: In other words, when you when you reject knowledge, right, you know you have that knowledge, it makes you more accountable.
• 48:00
SPEAKER_05: Like back in the day when people would smoke, right, they didn't know it would.
• 48:05
SPEAKER_05: I mean, I think they had doctors talking about how they would give them to children at back to school.
• 48:10
  SPEAKER_05: Yeah, it relaxes, whatever.
• 48:12
SPEAKER_05: Like, okay, but when you when you have knowledge that of what smoking does and you continue to do it, you know, that that that that's an issue there.
• 48:22
SPEAKER_05: But but it it all it's all linked, right?
• 48:25
SPEAKER_05: So, okay, you have knowledge that, as an example, you have knowledge that it's good to have friends that are upstanding and moral.
• 48:35
SPEAKER_05: So you avoid that and you reject that that knowledge and you go in the other direction.
• 48:39
SPEAKER_05: So now you get friends that are immoral and aren't good.
• 48:42
SPEAKER_05: Well, then now within that realm, you're gonna be faced with all kinds of decisions.
• 48:46
SPEAKER_05: And and there are going to be other things that you're going to be faced with.
• 48:50
SPEAKER_05: You have more knowledge of that that's wrong to do, but you you still resist it.
• 48:54
SPEAKER_05: Uh you resist that that that doing what's right in accordance with that knowledge.
• 48:58
SPEAKER_05: So now you're offered drugs.
• 49:00
SPEAKER_05: Now you code into that.
• 49:02
  SPEAKER_06: Some people smoke chains.
• 49:04
  SPEAKER_06: You heard that?
• 49:05
  SPEAKER_02: Oh, yeah, I'm a chain smoker.
• 49:08
SPEAKER_06: Okay, I got a quote from Ken Ham about apple pies.
• 49:10
  SPEAKER_06: Just came through.
• 49:11
  SPEAKER_06: Here it is.
• 49:12
SPEAKER_06: There's no apple pie other than Australian apple pies.
• 49:16
  SPEAKER_00: Fitting.
• 49:17
  SPEAKER_00: I do.
• 49:17
SPEAKER_00: You guys can I need to tell you guys something that my wife is smoking.
• 49:21
  SPEAKER_00: Smoking hot.
• 49:25
SPEAKER_05: Um, but you know, I was talking to someone recently and they were telling me about their their two sons, and he was saying how one has a job and he's making like really good money.
• 49:35
SPEAKER_05: And he says, but he just spends his money right and left.
• 49:39
  SPEAKER_05: He won't listen.
• 49:40
SPEAKER_05: He just keeps, you know.
• 49:41
SPEAKER_05: And then he goes, and he mentioned his other son.
• 49:44
SPEAKER_05: He's like, but oh, he listened.
• 49:46
SPEAKER_05: And you know, he he's owns a home, he's got investments, he's and you just you see that pathway.
• 49:53
SPEAKER_05: But it's like, you know, you know, Oscar, we talk about the stock market and 401ks and Roth's and Roth IRS.
• 50:01
SPEAKER_05: And like how if you start putting money in at an early age, how when you're down the line, you know.
• 50:08
SPEAKER_05: And so we met with you, my boys, and and they've been doing it.
• 50:11
SPEAKER_05: And and one of my boys told me his total, I almost fell over.
• 50:14
  SPEAKER_05: Really?
• 50:15
SPEAKER_05: Like what he has in there now.
• 50:16
  SPEAKER_05: How much?
• 50:19
SPEAKER_05: But I I do do you remember I said I got 35% after the device?
• 50:23
  SPEAKER_05: Yeah, right.
• 50:24
SPEAKER_05: And then, but but it was cool because he goes, Um uh I go, Oh wow, you're still doing it.
• 50:29
  SPEAKER_05: He's like, I've never stopped.
• 50:30
SPEAKER_05: That's so but how much?
• 50:32
  SPEAKER_05: Oh, trillion movie.
• 50:34
SPEAKER_08: So you know, it's funny you say this because uh, you know, my son Ethan, uh we have we we bought a car and my old car, Mazda uh CX5, Ethan said, Can I buy it off you?
• 50:46
  SPEAKER_08: I'll give you guys payments$500 a month.
• 50:48
SPEAKER_08: And I said, Yeah, sure, let's do it.
• 50:50
SPEAKER_08: And so, you know, we're we're like four or five payments in.
• 50:53
SPEAKER_08: And yesterday I contacted him and I said, Hey, your your payment is due today, but I have a I have a plan.
• 51:01
SPEAKER_08: Instead of paying us$500 a month, I want you to take that and I want you to put that into your Roth IRA.
• 51:08
SPEAKER_08: $500 every month, you know, and uh he said, Are you serious?
• 51:13
SPEAKER_08: And I go, Yeah, and I want you to get into habit.
• 51:15
SPEAKER_08: So when things get tight and tough, you're able to do it, get that compound interest so that when you're old like me, you know, you'll you'll be able to have that, you know.
• 51:24
SPEAKER_08: And he was just overwhelmed with gratefulness, yeah, you know, with that.
• 51:26
SPEAKER_05: Yeah, absolutely, you know, and it and the joy too of being able to pass knowledge on, you know, to to others that you've you've been blessed by and that you've experienced sometimes it's it's knowledge of other people's mistakes.
• 51:41
SPEAKER_05: Why'd you point to Ray?
• 51:43
SPEAKER_05: Because he's been around long enough to make so many.
• 51:46
SPEAKER_06: But isn't that what scripture is about?
• 51:48
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, it's just a whole stack of writing about other people's mistakes so that we can uh we can learn from them.
• 51:54
  SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
• 51:54
  SPEAKER_06: Um, here's a question.
• 51:56
SPEAKER_06: Is the age of accountability biblical?
• 52:01
SPEAKER_08: Why do you bring this up?
• 52:03
SPEAKER_06: I just felt like bringing it up.
• 52:04
SPEAKER_06: Just getting it off my chest.
• 52:06
  SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
• 52:07
SPEAKER_05: Yeah, that that's an interesting one.
• 52:09
SPEAKER_05: I I think, you know, theologians would go back sometimes into the human nature, the sin nature.
• 52:17
SPEAKER_05: Um, does that get eliminated until a certain age and then it applies to you?
• 52:22
SPEAKER_05: Uh, others say, well, yeah, I mean, you know, Spurgeon would have contended that, yeah, there is that age and and that any children that die uh in in their infancy or as young children that they they immediately go to heaven.
• 52:36
  SPEAKER_05: So it's it's it's a deep discussion.
• 52:38
SPEAKER_05: That might be a good that might be a good podcast.
• 52:40
SPEAKER_06: There's an age of accountability with parenting.
• 52:43
SPEAKER_06: You think back, you had grace towards your toddler when he was like a year old, and then suddenly you think, Oh, that's enough.
• 52:52
SPEAKER_06: You know, he's now burning the curtains.
• 52:54
SPEAKER_06: You know, when I saw him throwing things as a toddler, I thought he's just a toddler, but now I've got to I've got to show him he's accountable.
• 53:01
  SPEAKER_06: Wow.
• 53:01
SPEAKER_06: Is it Daniel or Jacob?
• 53:03
  SPEAKER_06: Both of them.
• 53:04
SPEAKER_06: All kids have got that same nature.
• 53:06
  SPEAKER_05: Luke 12, 47 to 48.
• 53:10
SPEAKER_05: And that servant who knew his master's will and did not prepare himself to do according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes.
• 53:17
SPEAKER_05: But he who did not know yet committed things deserving of stripes shall be beaten with few.
• 53:22
SPEAKER_05: For everyone to whom much is given, from him much is required, and to whom much has been committed, of him they will ask the more.
• 53:30
  SPEAKER_00: That's good.
• 53:31
SPEAKER_00: I have uh it's funny because you you mentioned to pass it on, and and in my notes, I kind of uh I I observed three things about the process of knowledge.
• 53:39
SPEAKER_00: One, uh the first step is to receive it well, which we talked about that, receive it in humility, not like an I know, I know.
• 53:47
SPEAKER_00: Uh second, to be sanctified by it, not just to let it to be head knowledge, but to allow it to become wisdom.
• 53:54
SPEAKER_00: And I think a big part of that is recognizing that God is the source of knowledge.
• 54:00
SPEAKER_00: And so the more you obtain, if you do it in a way that's sanctifying, the more you become like that source of knowledge.
• 54:07
SPEAKER_00: I wrote the goal of learning is to draw us back in humble dependence on the source of that knowledge.
• 54:14
SPEAKER_00: And then finally, what you just mentioned is to pass it on, to recognize that we don't just he keep it for ourselves, but that the Lord has called us to be in community, to participate in the sanctification in others and to participate in the passing on of that wisdom and knowledge.
• 54:30
  SPEAKER_00: Amen.
• 54:31
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
• 54:31
SPEAKER_05: You know, in the in the famous words of um that legendary theologian?
• 54:38
  SPEAKER_05: No.
• 54:39
  SPEAKER_05: Kulmod.
• 54:40
SPEAKER_02: Ohledge and wisdom and understanding possessed by God and transferred a man in a script or a book or scripture that looks like a biblical writing and vibe, the hook of a song sink along with a strong subliminal message that dives all man from criminal, acts of the devil revealed in revel, designed to decline the mind to a lower level.
• 54:57
SPEAKER_04: Why do you look like you're falling asleep, right?
• 55:00
SPEAKER_05: Or is that deep depression?
• 55:01
  SPEAKER_05: It was deep depression.
• 55:02
  SPEAKER_05: Deep depression.
• 55:04
  SPEAKER_05: James 4, 17.
• 55:05
SPEAKER_05: Therefore, to him that knows to do good and does not do it, to him it is sin.
• 55:12
SPEAKER_05: Mark, how would you describe the battle with that thing called the conscience?
• 55:19
SPEAKER_08: It's hard to run from the conscience, isn't it?
• 55:22
SPEAKER_08: Um it's easy to sear it though.
• 55:24
SPEAKER_08: I mean, when you continually reject it, right?
• 55:28
SPEAKER_08: To quench the spirit is to push it inside of a corner, to push him inside of a corner.
• 55:32
SPEAKER_08: And we we we gotta be careful with that, you know.
• 55:34
SPEAKER_08: To he who is often reproved will harden his heart and he'll be cut off in that without remedy.
• 55:40
SPEAKER_08: When we we wanna be quick to respond to do that which is right.
• 55:45
SPEAKER_08: When when we think that God is calling me, commanding me to do something, respond.
• 55:51
  SPEAKER_08: Right?
• 55:51
SPEAKER_08: You know, you got the track, hand it out.
• 55:54
SPEAKER_08: Should I give him that track?
• 55:55
SPEAKER_08: Don't even overthink it, just do it.
• 55:58
SPEAKER_08: You know, should I apologize to my wife, you know, for that thing that I did?
• 56:02
SPEAKER_08: Should I apologize to my child?
• 56:03
SPEAKER_08: You know, just just do it.
• 56:05
SPEAKER_08: You know, what harm is it in the midst of that?
• 56:07
SPEAKER_00: You know, and it only gets harder.
• 56:09
SPEAKER_08: And it does, you know.
• 56:10
SPEAKER_08: I was sharing, uh I apologized to my wife recently, and I I didn't think that what I said was wrong.
• 56:16
  SPEAKER_08: I don't think what I did was wrong.
• 56:18
SPEAKER_08: But it my tone, my tone itself, it wasn't precious.
• 56:23
SPEAKER_08: It wasn't something where she could walk away and and think, well, my my husband really cares about me the way it was done.
• 56:31
SPEAKER_08: And I listen, I'm backing up with scripture, I'm backing up with anecdotes, I'm an I'm a preacher, right?
• 56:36
SPEAKER_08: So what I'm saying is correct, right?
• 56:39
SPEAKER_08: But the tone was so off and it did not draw us close.
• 56:42
SPEAKER_08: And I knew it when she just became silent and sort of played at you.
• 56:46
  SPEAKER_08: Yeah, yeah.
• 56:47
SPEAKER_08: And I'm just like, oh, this woman you gave me, it's always her fault.
• 56:53
SPEAKER_08: But but we need to respond quickly because you know, our God has given us that conscience to be able to lead us and align it with scripture, you know, obviously, but be quick to respond.
• 57:03
  SPEAKER_08: Well said no.
• 57:04
SPEAKER_06: There is a knowledge that puffs up, but the knowledge of God should humble us.
• 57:08
  SPEAKER_06: Amen.
• 57:08
  SPEAKER_06: It's a difference.
• 57:09
  SPEAKER_05: So good, right?
• 57:10
SPEAKER_05: And Ray, you always talk about this, you know, Romans uh 2 21.
• 57:14
SPEAKER_05: Uh you therefore who teach another, do you not teach yourself?
• 57:18
SPEAKER_05: You who preach a man should not steal, do you you steal?
• 57:22
SPEAKER_05: I mean, there is that because it's like the person who's teaching, and James says those that are teachers have greater accountability, you know.
• 57:29
SPEAKER_05: Let not many of you become teachers, no one will receive a stricter judgment.
• 57:33
SPEAKER_05: So, Ray, what what's what you always share that, you always talk about that to people.
• 57:37
SPEAKER_05: Is it is that is it just because of the element of hypocrisy, like you know, but you're living opposite of the children.
• 57:42
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, well, there's a Lazarus that stinks, that's the conscience that's dulled, and you have to roll the stone away and say, come forth.
• 57:47
SPEAKER_06: And suddenly the conscience comes alive.
• 57:50
  SPEAKER_06: Wow.
• 57:51
SPEAKER_06: It comes walking out of the grave of the unregenerate heart.
• 57:54
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
• 57:55
SPEAKER_05: Yeah, well, friends, let me let me wrap it up.
• 57:58
SPEAKER_05: Yeah, wrap it up this verse.
• 58:00
  SPEAKER_05: Yo, Rayabi.
• 58:01
  SPEAKER_05: Luke 10 13.
• 58:02
SPEAKER_05: For those of you that that have been listening to us for a while, and we've had even atheists in the past say they've listened, and there may be some of you that aren't born again yet.
• 58:10
  SPEAKER_05: I don't know how you've come across this.
• 58:11
SPEAKER_05: Maybe you're in Indonesia and uh you're from a Muslim background, or maybe you're someone that has grown up in a Christian home and you listen.
• 58:19
SPEAKER_05: Listen to these words from Jesus in Luke 10 13.
• 58:22
SPEAKER_05: Woe unto you, Croazin, woe unto you, Beth Seda.
• 58:24
SPEAKER_05: For if the mighty works had been done in Tyran Sidon, which have been done in you, they had a great while ago ago repented, uh sitting in sackcloth and ashes.
• 58:35
SPEAKER_05: And then he talked about the greater condemnation, you know, and so if if you've heard the gospel, today is a day of salvation.
• 58:42
SPEAKER_05: Don't stiffen your neck, you don't want to be broken off in that without remedy.
• 58:48
SPEAKER_05: God is real, Christ is real, heaven is real, hell is real.
• 58:52
SPEAKER_05: You don't want to hear those words depart from me, you worker of iniquity.
• 58:56
  SPEAKER_05: I never knew you.
• 58:58
SPEAKER_05: And so we urge you today, based on that knowledge that brings accountability to repent.
• 59:06
SPEAKER_05: Turn to Christ, receive what he's done.
• 59:10
SPEAKER_05: And if you know him, tell others to repent and receive what he's done.
• 59:14
SPEAKER_05: We have knowledge of that.
• 59:15
SPEAKER_05: Here's the knowledge we do have we are ambassadors for Christ.
• 59:19
SPEAKER_05: God wants to plead through us to the world to be reconciled to him.
• 59:23
SPEAKER_05: We know that we're called to go into all the world to preach the gospel to every creature, and we know that he's with us in that always, even unto the end of the age.
• 59:35
SPEAKER_05: He'll never leave us nor forsake us.
• 59:36
  SPEAKER_05: So you're anticipating that.
• 59:41
SPEAKER_05: So we hope you've been encouraged, friends.
• 59:43
SPEAKER_05: Uh, there you have it.
• 59:45
SPEAKER_05: Don't forget the million dollar gospel of John and the Vault.
• 59:49
