- 0:54we get started. Let's go.
- 0:57When it was in my mother's womb, I had to call me on my life to
- 1:02do something in the glory of God and marry it like a wife, commit
- 1:07myself to His word and never be LED astray.
- 1:10And when it's all over, when He comes, I'll be glad to see that
- 1:14day in the morning time. Hey Mister man, how you doing?
- 1:41I'm good, man. I'm good.
- 1:41Hey, did you? See the game last night.
- 1:43I was your game. But did you see the shot?
- 1:45I lost money from that. Oh, man, That shot was old man.
- 1:48But it was good, Yeah. What's the name?
- 1:58You really want to know. I do.
- 2:04Exhaustion, muscle spasm, Asthmatic issues, Unexpected
- 2:08sickle cell trait type. Are you serious?
- 2:12When I was young I found out I had sickle cell trait.
- 2:15My mom's told me but I didn't have no knowledge of it.
- 2:17But when I got older, I had a child.
- 2:19The doctor told me my daughter had sickle cell.
- 2:21Trait. Do you know the facts that both
- 2:23parents have sickle cell trait? There's a 50% chance the child
- 2:26may have the trait and 25% chance the child may have the.
- 2:29Disease and that's what's the count do you know that
- 2:31225,000,000 people in the United States have sickle cell trait?
- 2:34300 million people globally. I didn't find out I had sickle
- 2:37cell trait until I was in the Army 10 years.
- 2:39Next thing you know I had a sickle cell trait.
- 2:41Exertion site. April Cell I.
- 2:43Thought that was a. Black Gen. or something?
- 2:45Nah. Man, the black community is
- 2:47number 21 out of 36,000 babies are being born with sickle cell
- 2:50disease. It could be Caucasian,
- 2:52Mediterranean, European. You got to wear your bloodline,
- 2:54man. There is an inherited gene in
- 2:59our community that has been forgotten.
- 3:01The name is Sickle Cell trait. WDCONSCT, also known as What's
- 3:06the Count, is out to bring awareness, education and

- 7:11I love that song. I don't know, you know, Mr. Red,
- 7:13White and Blue. What can I say?
- 7:15All right, thanks for tuning in today.
- 7:17As always, We have a very important show for you right
- 7:19here live Wednesdays at 4:00 PM Pacific Time.
- 7:23Make sure you catch me on Tuesdays.
- 7:25That was yesterday. KC Radio One O 6.5 FM 1050 AM
- 7:29chance. I was coming there.
- 7:30We do another variety show of the Frondosier show, more
- 7:34community based over here out in the IE area.
- 7:37But again, you might find some of the same topics or you might
- 7:41find some different varieties just depending on where you want
- 7:44to watch and what day you want to watch.
- 7:46All right, so today I just had a couple things to get off my
- 7:50chest. Shout out to Angelica.
- 7:52You know, we was having a conversation this morning on the
- 7:55on the text and just just about life, you know, and you know,
- 8:02one of the things I did learn in the education that I take is
- 8:05about, you know, what do, what do we pretend?
- 8:10Do we pretend a lot of things? What do you pretend?
- 8:13Human beings? We know how to pretend a lot.
- 8:15You know, the brain can't tell the difference between a real
- 8:18and an imaginary threat. Do you want to do you know that
- 8:21I'm not a psychologist, I'm not a therapist.
- 8:22I'm not none of that. All I'm saying, from what I
- 8:25understand when I examine myself up against that conversation,
- 8:29the brain can't tell the difference between real and an
- 8:32imaginary threat. And that could cause us to
- 8:36pretend. Can it possibly?
- 8:41Do you use the word pretend? What word do you use to describe
- 8:45when you're not? Whatever that is what I don't
- 8:49know what words you, you use in your language, but sometimes
- 8:52pretend. Sometime we're in denial.
- 8:55You know, there's a lot of things that I noticed from
- 8:57myself. Ridiculous.
- 8:59Like like even in my house, right?
- 9:02It's got electricity running through here, it's got gas
- 9:06running through here on a stove. And we just walk around like
- 9:08nothing, nothing that cannot happen.
- 9:10It's just, you know, it's electric, just gas.
- 9:16Live in denial. And that's not good or bad,
- 9:19right or wrong. It just depends on your
- 9:21perspective, your perception, your interpretation, right?
- 9:23But I believe the pretense of a lot of the conversations that
- 9:27I'm pointing to is not up against the stuff in life, not
- 9:32up against the stuff we talk about that stuff.
- 9:35It's the human being connection that we pretend, right?
- 9:40If you can look in your life and tell the truth, maybe in the
- 9:42aspect. So I, I did, you know, years
- 9:45ago, I started this journey and I was looking and I was, you
- 9:48know, I pretend, I pretend like everything's cool and it's
- 9:50really not. I think everything is fine and
- 9:53it's really not. I pretend, but what am I
- 9:56pretending? Why am I pretending?
- 10:00And, you know, for me, being able to go back and look as far
- 10:04as I could go back at two years old, you know, the identities
- 10:08that get created in those very young ages, the things that we
- 10:12land on as children, the stories that we make up about the
- 10:15situation to survive those moments in time to how our
- 10:21perception of a child gets formed, how the stories get
- 10:26created, how we write our own script about what happened if we
- 10:29don't get the information, the fill in the blanks.
- 10:33And so, yeah, I found myself with a lot of pretense growing
- 10:37up. And it felt, feels felt good to
- 10:44peel some of those layers off, to look back and discover that
- 10:48the stories that I made-up to protect myself, to protect that
- 10:54identity. I've never wanted to experience
- 10:57disappointment. But you can't avoid
- 11:00disappointment. What is disappointment to you
- 11:02see, my disappointments might not be the same as yours, right?
- 11:05So how I view disappointments and shames and embarrassments
- 11:09may not be yours. You might have your own version
- 11:12of a disappointment that you call disappointment that I would
- 11:15be like, that's not disappointing.
- 11:16What are you talking about? Or that's not embarrassing.
- 11:18What are you talking about? See how that up against another
- 11:21human being, that language is very important.
- 11:26And so when I looked at my own life, it's got to start with
- 11:28yourself first. God says love God or your heart,
- 11:32mind, soul, body, and then love your neighbor with the same
- 11:36measure that you love yourself, which points it back to me.
- 11:38So people say like, you point your finger over there.
- 11:40How many of them point back at you?
- 11:42Plus, where's the thumb going up?
- 11:43And you know, we got all those different things, right?
- 11:45We, we say it all. So when I started measuring
- 11:48myself at 40, Oh my gosh, I took some measurements and I was
- 11:53like, yeah, that one that might be, that's not a good
- 11:56measurement right there. Oh, that one hurts.
- 11:59Where I where'd I get that measurement from?
- 12:01Oh, shame, embarrassment, disappointment, blame, you know,
- 12:06those are the things I'm looking at.
- 12:07So I'm saying that to say one of the things I'm now, since I'm
- 12:16I'm cool with my dad's transition in his life.
- 12:19I'm cool with that. I'm cool.
- 12:20I'm spiritually cool with that, physically cool with that, I'm
- 12:26mentally cool with that, and I'm pretty much emotionally cool
- 12:30with that. But there's a lot of things that
- 12:33I took on in the last seven years that was filling the void.
- 12:43And, you know, to now get to that space and then to now look
- 12:47and like, Oh my goodness, that was all done to fill a emptiness
- 12:53in my, in my mind. So now my mind is filled up with
- 12:57stuff that guess what? The stuff that maybe I don't
- 13:00want to be about today, maybe stuff that I don't want to do
- 13:03today. And, and, and life is changing
- 13:06and, and, and goals change, right?
- 13:08And, and visions change and they grow and we develop.
- 13:11And I'm, I'm recognizing for myself about every five into
- 13:15that sixth year, there's a new evolution of Ferran that shows
- 13:19up, right. And so in my 16 years of this,
- 13:23you're talking about 3 different versions of Ferran has been
- 13:27discovered. And I'm, I'm, I'm in the, I'm in
- 13:30the fourth one, I'm in Season 4 right now.
- 13:34And there may be some, some changes.
- 13:37There may be some, maybe there may be some growth, there may be
- 13:40some, of course, some more development, but there may be
- 13:44some changes. And again, we can manage change.
- 13:50For some people, change can be scary, the unforeseen.
- 13:54I know where I live. I live in the future of
- 13:55uncertainty. So I'm learning how to manage
- 13:58that, that perspective, that view.
- 14:01But yeah, we talk about change, but how do you manage your
- 14:05change? Only, you know, only you can
- 14:07discover. Only you know what she's like
- 14:11right here. The age.
- 14:13What do you say? I'm at the age where I don't
- 14:16pretend. How did you get there?
- 14:18Please in the comments tell us how did you become the person
- 14:22that learned that? And that's that's what we talked
- 14:24about, right? Because I don't want to live in
- 14:26that space. No, we don't.
- 14:29We don't really want to pretend, right?
- 14:31But what, what, what do we, how do we find ourselves in that
- 14:34space of pretense? And one of the conversations
- 14:38that we have with this, like there's a ice cream shop in the
- 14:40front and then they're running guns and drugs in the back.
- 14:43They call that a racket. The racketeering.
- 14:45It's gun. It's it's ice cream shop in the
- 14:47front. And then there's guns and, and
- 14:49drugs in the back. So I don't want to go look in
- 14:51the back. Just get your ice cream in the
- 14:52front. Don't worry about what's in the
- 14:53back. Here's what she says.
- 14:55She says, I truly believe age. Yes.
- 15:00And, and that's true, right? And and and and do we have to
- 15:04leave it to age? And I questioned that because I
- 15:08was 40 when I started this journey.
- 15:10Imagine teaching that to a 12 year old.
- 15:14Imagine teaching that to a six year old.
- 15:17My grandson was 5 when I helped when we discovered his almost
- 15:21first first fraction fracture of the kids, not the kids don't
- 15:26like me at 5:00 when it going into kindergarten.
- 15:31And we corrected that because I was aware.
- 15:33I heard it. We heard it.
- 15:36But yeah, if we leave it to age, that's like leaving it to
- 15:40chance. You know, we know that some
- 15:43people never discover what their life is worth their life is
- 15:47about. People die with so many
- 15:50inventions and books and stuff that they didn't get a chance to
- 15:54get out because they felt like I'm not good enough, I'm not
- 15:56worth it, I'm something wrong with me, I don't belong.
- 15:59And so you with, you hold all that stuff inside and you don't
- 16:04express it. So we're pretending.
- 16:07It's another version of pretending like I'm an author.
- 16:12I'm pretending like I'm not. But I, I wrote, I wrote some
- 16:15books that I'm, I don't want to be an author.
- 16:16So I have to find another way to express my writings in a way
- 16:21that I can, you know, share them.
- 16:25But I'm to be an author. I don't want that title.
- 16:27I'm not even looking. I'm not.
- 16:29I'll go check. Oh, I wrote that in my book on
- 16:31page 46. I'm not going to be that guy.
- 16:33My stuff is a conversation. So I appreciate that.
- 16:36Thank you for sharing that and it and it and my thing is, let's
- 16:40not leave it to age for those who are willing.
- 16:43Now, everybody's not willing. Everybody's not willing to do
- 16:45the work. Everybody's not willing to tell
- 16:47the truth to themselves about their own life where they're
- 16:49pretending. But you know, you look in the
- 16:52mirror, you hear your mind talk to you about why you act like
- 16:55that. Why you just want you to say why
- 16:58don't you just say what that is? See this lady, she right here,
- 17:00she got it. Hey, I'm trying to tell you 40,
- 17:04404040 is a biblical number as well.
- 17:08If you look at Moses and the Israelites, they walk that
- 17:12wilderness for 40 years, a 30 day walk, 40 day walk, but they
- 17:17walked there for 40 years. Why?
- 17:19Why did they walk for 40 years? Why?
- 17:21Why did they just not go to Canaan?
- 17:24Why did they not? Do you know why my revelation?
- 17:27Why they did it? Because clearly they still had
- 17:31their minds in Egypt. So you imagine being 4, you have
- 17:35400 years of generational and, and that enslaved mindset being
- 17:39passed down for 400 years to your family, to the
- 17:43conversation, to your culture, and then now you're free.
- 17:46Where do you think your mind has got your mind?
- 17:48They was like, man, Moses, why you got us out here in the
- 17:50wilderness, man, What's wrong with you, man?
- 17:52We could be back in Egypt eating garlic, bro.
- 17:54Why are we out here? No, they didn't understand that
- 17:57God was going to provide. He was providing.
- 17:59They had miracles every day. The clothes didn't wear out, the
- 18:02shoes didn't wear out. They have food every day.
- 18:05But their hearts were still in Egypt.
- 18:08And so for some of us, our hearts are still back in the
- 18:11past of our childhood and our homes where we felt like life.
- 18:16It was, it was terrible. Or you hear people say, oh,
- 18:20adulting is hard. I don't want to be in the
- 18:22adulting is hard. You hear?
- 18:24You hear all the different versions of it, right?
- 18:28But then what is that for you? And and then she said 40 year at
- 18:3244. So 40 years they walked and and
- 18:35and God was just going to destroy him just now I'm just
- 18:37going to take him out. And Moses was like, Nah, bro,
- 18:39you can't take him out. Can't take him out because
- 18:41remember what you said? If you take him out, then who
- 18:43are you going to be? He was like, all right, I got
- 18:45OK, OK, I'm gonna leave him alone.
- 18:47Oh, we going to let him die off. So check it.
- 18:50So 40 years generation died off. The new generation was born in
- 18:55the wilderness. They wasn't born in Egypt.
- 18:57So guess what, their hearts had no idea what it was to be
- 19:01enslaved in Egypt. And that was enough freedom to
- 19:06be able to go and even go in the Canaan.
- 19:11So do you, I don't know if you understand that.
- 19:12So that that that's why that 40 for me is significant.
- 19:15I started my journey at 40 and and 40 isn't is the spiritual is
- 19:20the biblical of the next generation.
- 19:22That's at 40, you'll be leaving your generation into the next
- 19:25generation 40 years apart. And so that is very significant.
- 19:30And if you understand that, and however you use those passages
- 19:33to unravel to get your, because a lot of us a lot of parables in
- 19:38there, you got to catch some in the spirit.
- 19:39Your, your mind ain't going to understand that.
- 19:42But for some people, we still live in the past and and we're
- 19:47complaining about the past and how we grew up and all these
- 19:50things. But guess what?
- 19:53At some point, as she said, with age, we pray that your mind
- 19:58clicks and like, wait a minute. And that's what mine did at 39.
- 20:01Mine was like, man, there's got to be something better than
- 20:03this. I'm, I'm, I'm in suicide
- 20:05ideation, I'm depressed, I'm dark, I'm ready to get out of
- 20:08here. I don't care about my life is
- 20:09over. And I heard this little blink
- 20:12that said, Yep, there's got to be something better than this.
- 20:17And I heard it. I heard my, I heard that voice
- 20:19in my head. And here at 40, almost turning
- 20:2441. That the journey began.
- 20:26So I'm saying this, not leave it to time.
- 20:29That's all I'm saying. Let's not leave it to time.
- 20:32We can teach these conversations.
- 20:34There's curriculums, there's conversations we have for my
- 20:38veteran brothers and sisters out here, a lot of us are dealing
- 20:41with what's next, that transition and change.
- 20:45For some of us, like myself, I was an emotional child.
- 20:48So transition and change for me was emotional.
- 20:53And when I look at my brothers and sisters, I look at my life,
- 20:55even in my transition out of the military, it was like I said, it
- 20:58was over. It was over.
- 21:03What's next? And so sometimes we have to help
- 21:05one another figure out what's next.
- 21:09Sometimes you got to be able to step back and like, OK, I'm not.
- 21:11That's not my identity today. Sometimes you got to be OK with
- 21:18that. But who does one have to become?
- 21:20That's not what it's not what you got to do is who you got to
- 21:23be. And that's my conversation.
- 21:25We talk about who you get to be first because you could do it
- 21:28upset and frustrated and angry and you can do a whole bunch of
- 21:32stuff in life, but what's your experience of that frustration?
- 21:36But if you check your experience of life first, you find peace,
- 21:40you find patience, you find kindness, whatever to yourself.
- 21:45Can you imagine what it would to be kind to yourself to figure
- 21:47out what's next? That means you would be able to
- 21:49go and try out anything. I mean, we, we go out with the
- 21:52hidden pioneers right now and we're telling children, you
- 21:54could become, you could get a job at NASA at 16.
- 21:58You could do all these jobs. There's thousands of jobs.
- 22:02And other than being in the military and being a cop and
- 22:04being a gangster and being an athlete, there's so many other
- 22:07jobs out there. And none of those are right or
- 22:10wrong, good or bad. But Can you imagine grew up in
- 22:13an environment that says that you can't do that?
- 22:15You got to go get this job at McDonald's.
- 22:16We got to pay these bills. You mechanic, You can't ask.
- 22:19We don't want no grease monkeys in our family.
- 22:22You know how much? You know how you got much?
- 22:23You got to be how smart you got to be to be a mechanic today.
- 22:25Do you know? Do you know how smart you have
- 22:27to be? It's computers now, electric
- 22:30cars. Mechanics aren't grease monkeys
- 22:32no more, ladies and gentlemen. They're not grease monkeys.
- 22:35And there's still nothing wrong with a grease monkey.
- 22:38Somebody got to fix some carburetors and them fuel
- 22:40injectors and them change them oils.
- 22:43So, but imagine you grew up in an environment that doesn't pull
- 22:45for that and you learn that early on.
- 22:49I can't do that. Oh, my mom, my dad said, I can't
- 22:51do that. My dad said, I got to be this, I
- 22:53got to do this. I got to be this, I got to and,
- 22:56and now, and now we kill the child's dream off.
- 23:02Oh, this is, it's ridiculous. So that's, that's my first, my
- 23:07first conversation. I wanted to get off my chest
- 23:10today. I mean, I got a whole lot more
- 23:11over here, but I, I wanted to just start with that.
- 23:15I'm doing a segment called becoming right.
- 23:18And if you saw the flyer for today, it's, it's about, I
- 23:20forgot about 8 versions of myself from 11 to I think that
- 23:24was 5056 now. So I think that was about last
- 23:28year, so about 5556. There's different versions of
- 23:31myself in that and there's a lot more, but those were the main 8.
- 23:37If I could look, those are the main 8 and and the transitions
- 23:41and changes from those ages, right?
- 23:44And although I'm 56, man, my heart is like 25 and my mind is
- 23:49like 14 because I healed all those little childhood ages. 2
- 23:54years old, five years old, six years old, eight years old, nine
- 23:59years old, eleven. What is that 141721239090?
- 24:11I think there's a lot that I had to go back in time and like is
- 24:15that, is that, is that real about, is that true about me?
- 24:18Oh, no, that's not true. Can you imagine going to an 11
- 24:22year old and, and, and the challenge is being able to tell
- 24:25the truth to yourself that you made-up that story.
- 24:27That's that's, that's, that's a huge part that you made-up that
- 24:31story because now you got to go back and you got to might have
- 24:34to retract some of those, those words.
- 24:36You got to retract. You got to go ask for some
- 24:37family people members to forgiveness.
- 24:40You got to apologize for some stuff.
- 24:42You got to forgive yourself and maybe rewrite your whole past
- 24:49and maybe rewrite your whole past.
- 24:52Can you imagine? Can you imagine that?
- 24:57Can you not hear me? Y'all can't hear me?
- 24:59Somebody said they can't hear me.
- 25:01Am I still there? Big Drake, can you hear me?
- 25:04Lynn, can you hear me? Are we there?
- 25:08Or maybe that was her line she just dropped off.
- 25:11So we're going to get this episode started again.
- 25:14Thank you for tuning, listening, and thank you for the comments.
- 25:17For, for, for them out there. Let me see.
- 25:19I got another one coming here. I can hear you.
- 25:23Oh, yes, you can hear. Yeah.
- 25:25So YouTube is fine. I think that was Lynn.
- 25:26I think she was losing signal over there.
- 25:27She's my one of my guests coming up.
- 25:31But yeah, so that's that's my that's my conversation.
- 25:34What does that look like for you?
- 25:35I'm asking. I'm asking.
- 25:39Sometimes we pretend to protect that identity, right?
- 25:42We're protecting ourselves from something.
- 25:43From what? What are we protecting ourselves
- 25:45from? We're protecting ourselves from
- 25:47something. What is that?
- 25:50Why are my guests dropping off? Where y'all going?
- 25:54What is that? What are you protecting yourself
- 25:55from? Only you know, only you know,
- 26:00only you know what you're protecting yourself from.
- 26:03I was protecting myself from being I was avoiding
- 26:06disappointment. I was avoiding disappointment
- 26:11and being disappointed. And then I was still
- 26:13disappointed and still disappointing people.
- 26:16And that's what they even with today's conversation, I was
- 26:18like, Dang, I looked at myself, I looked around the house and
- 26:22I'm like, I'm, I'm still in the space of avoiding
- 26:24disappointment. Still for Ron, even today,
- 26:28October 7th, I, I'm still, I mean, I just discovered a few
- 26:32weeks ago. So, you know, now I got to, I
- 26:34got to take the deep breath and like, OK, how does it feel not
- 26:38to be experienced being disappointed when you've grown
- 26:41up for 54 years of your life living, avoiding disappointment,
- 26:45still disappointing people and still being disappointed.
- 26:49So what are we pretending? Right?
- 26:51So I'm asking you to examine yourself, if you're willing,
- 26:56tell the truth of where you're pretending, where you got ice
- 26:59cream in the front and you got guns and drugs in the back.
- 27:02That's what we call right of the racket.
- 27:05All right, so I'm going to let that go.
- 27:07It's almost at the bottom of the hour.
- 27:08So I'm going to play another PSA come back.
- 27:11I got I see my guest down there. So we're going to play some
- 27:15state identification breaks and then come back and get this show
- 27:18started again. This is the front door.

- 30:28What do you call it? A guaba?
- 30:29Love that God has and. Agape, yeah.
- 30:32Agape love and you have, I call it ludicrous love, that fake
- 30:39love that they got something going on, but what?
- 30:45God give us sincerity, and if you don't love yourself, how you
- 30:48going to love anybody else? You know, you know.
- 30:51And we and we do love ourselves. We do love ourselves, but do we
- 30:55measure it? Because, because there's a point
- 30:57sometimes I'm like, I don't love myself today.
- 30:58But you can't when you, when you discover that you won't say that
- 31:01no more. I love myself at least 50% of
- 31:03the time. So at least I could, I could
- 31:05give you 50% love if I'm going to give myself 50%.
- 31:08So I appreciate you for that it. Ain't going to work at all, you
- 31:11know, That's why I love thinking about it.

- 35:55Up. What's up?
- 35:56I'm doing good. Wonderful.
- 35:58I hear, I, I hear, I echo. I hear myself in the background.
- 36:01In the background. OK, hold on.
- 36:04Let me try to tell you, suck her off.
- 36:05She has won $20,000. You'll realize that she can't
- 36:07hear. It's Echo.
- 36:11How did you work please? I can hear you.
- 36:14Perfect. There it goes.
- 36:15It's good. Moore how you doing?
- 36:17Long time no see. We can hear you.
- 36:23OK, wonderful. How you doing today for Ron?
- 36:25I'm doing great. Nice to meet you well.
- 36:27Thanks to Dee for inviting me to this.
- 36:31I never knew this existed. This is so awesome, thank you.
- 36:34Thank you. Thank you.
- 36:36So tell me about who you are, girl.
- 36:37Who you are, what you all about? I just wanted to introduce
- 36:40myself. I'm Alex Moore.
- 36:41I'm with the Veterans Legacy Center in California, but I
- 36:45actually live, I actually live in Dallas, TX.
- 36:49My brother Daniel Moore is in California.
- 36:53Who can help? He's there to help veterans
- 36:57secure their legacies, to just record them, do their pre needs,
- 37:02get them into the National Cemetery and then take care of
- 37:06the needs afterwards as well. Because a lot of veterans don't
- 37:10know their, you know, exactly what they're due.
- 37:14So we're here to help them to to show them what the VA covers and
- 37:19what the VA does not cover and to help them, you know, to
- 37:23cover. We're going to cover what the VA
- 37:25doesn't cover, but we're going to get them all set up so that
- 37:29when the time comes, they're all prepared.
- 37:32So that's what we do. That's beautiful.
- 37:39My question to you about that part of it, as veterans, you
- 37:43know, we're guarded, we're protected, right?
- 37:45We, we, we don't, we, we, we have some of us have top secret
- 37:48clearances. And so that transitions over
- 37:51into our life. How, how does your, your
- 37:53organization build the relationship?
- 37:55And I don't, I don't even want to use trust because confidence,
- 38:00like how do you build the confidence for that person that
- 38:02even want to talk to you about their life and that that day
- 38:06that's going to happen to all of us at some point?
- 38:09Well, you know. It's not only a veteran thing,
- 38:12it's a life thing. No one trust people with that
- 38:16information. But I really think it's just
- 38:18the, it's just, it's just the getting to know people and
- 38:23letting them see that we are real, that we do have their best
- 38:26interest at heart. We're going to show them
- 38:29basically, you know what just it's, it's basic information as
- 38:33far as what's covered and what's not covered.
- 38:36So it's really just a simple, it's a simple act.
- 38:39And all they have to do is be willing to hear.
- 38:42Wow, there we go into. It but but it's really.
- 38:45Tough to get to them and get through them.
- 38:49My brother does it. He's, I'm kind of new into it.
- 38:53I'm just starting down here in Texas, but he's like a beast in
- 38:57California and he's been doing this for about 8 or 9 years now.
- 39:01So he's very, very good at what he does.
- 39:05I told him to get on. I'm like Oh my God, I don't know
- 39:08what to do but. I had to get on.
- 39:10Just to represent to let the. Veterans.
- 39:12Know that they do have someone that they can trust with their
- 39:18final wishes, you know, and, and, and I'm a life insurance
- 39:22agent. I'm a life insurance, a licensed
- 39:24agent. So, you know, I go and talk to
- 39:27many people about this and they don't want to hear it.
- 39:30But you know, if the veteran wants to hear it wants to, you
- 39:35know, if they want to get help if they don't have everything
- 39:38together or if even if they think they don't have an
- 39:41everything together, that's where that that's what we're
- 39:44here for, to help them to prepare for that moment because
- 39:49it's, you know, it's going to happen.
- 39:50So I'm not, you know, a major, you know, I don't have all the
- 39:56verbiage, but I know that when I meet people, I just let them see
- 40:00the genuineness of me and they'll get to trust me.
- 40:05And especially being licensed insurance agents, you know, we
- 40:08are, you know, we're trusted by the government and, you know, so
- 40:12not the government, but the States and, and the commissions.
- 40:17You know. So yeah.
- 40:19So we are. Righteous people, we are not
- 40:22scammers or anything like that. So if a veteran does not have
- 40:25their pre needs like a lot of them haven't, they haven't
- 40:28filled out their DD214. A lot of them haven't done that.
- 40:32So we do. We walk through all of the every
- 40:35single thing with them and we take care of that and then we
- 40:39will take care of the things that they need that the VA does
- 40:43not cover. Sure.
- 40:46I appreciate that, you know, again.
- 40:47It's, it's important. I'm, I'm thinking as, as you
- 40:49talk, you know, we're, I know in my generation, where I was at,
- 40:53we were trained that we're not the civilians don't understand
- 40:56you. So when you, when you, when you
- 40:58taught that at 19 years old and you grew up and I, I spent 24
- 41:02years in the military and that was drilled in us that civilians
- 41:05will not understand you. It's, it's that transition comes
- 41:08out like, oh, I suppose you're a civilian, how you don't even
- 41:11know what I went through. And so there's, there's these
- 41:13gaps, right? And they're not just military
- 41:16guests, but this is a human being flaw, right?
- 41:18It's a human being flaw. But for some of us, we're
- 41:21trained, we're taught that that you're, you're not going to
- 41:24understand me. And So what I had to do was for
- 41:26myself was go back and look at my own.
- 41:28So like, well, I don't understand for on.
- 41:30So then why can I put the pressure on you don't understand
- 41:32what? I don't understand me.
- 41:33So the relatedness. And that's why I asked you, how
- 41:35do we have these conversations where it's a relatedness so that
- 41:39person can then become willing to like, you know what?
- 41:41OK, I, I do have concerns about my life and, and these documents
- 41:45and, and I have the confidence in you to give you the
- 41:48opportunity as a civilian, right?
- 41:50As someone who's not military connected to help me.
- 41:53It's a it's a lot that goes with that.
- 41:56OK, you know my. Brother, he was in the military
- 42:00and that's probably why he messed really well.
- 42:03Oh yeah? Well then, no.
- 42:04Yeah, yeah, yeah. But his sister?
- 42:07I'm a military sister, so. You so you can you right there.
- 42:11You right there. So you right there you.
- 42:14You you dropped that that I'm. A military sister.
- 42:16Then we got, we got some compassion for you because we
- 42:18did. We know, you know.
- 42:19So let us know how we can find. Let us know.
- 42:21How you find that? I know.
- 42:23Some of that life indeed. So I didn't know that you guys
- 42:27didn't were wasn't that you guys didn't trust civilians.
- 42:31I didn't know understand the word.
- 42:33We're taught not trust, but what it not understanding could lead
- 42:37to mistrust. That right.
- 42:38There's a lot that could come with that depend on the person,
- 42:40but it's it's it's taught that that you're not going to
- 42:43understand me. I'll tell you what you're going.
- 42:47To do that. And you know.
- 42:48I'll be going. Down.
- 42:49I'll be going hard down here hanging out at the VA hospitals.
- 42:53They going to trust me because I'm a travel worthy.
- 42:55Person they going? To hear what I got to say, if
- 42:58they want to hear what you. Do I don't think it's hard for.
- 43:02Me to build up trust with people because I'm just that type of
- 43:06person but you know, the main thing is just getting someone
- 43:10who understands your needs and then understands what you need
- 43:15so exactly so. Thank you.
- 43:17Thank you for that. Yeah.
- 43:20So I'm. Here for that, but I really
- 43:22appreciate you allowing. Me on your platform that's.
- 43:26That's really awesome. And and if you like more
- 43:28information, how can I get you more information?
- 43:32Big Dre we, we. Connected so once we're done
- 43:34here, you can send it to Big Dre and and your brother or or you
- 43:37can. Let the audience know.
- 43:38Right now you're live. Yeah, you're live.
- 43:40Right now, you're live. So you can let them know where
- 43:42you at, how you going to tell, I'll reach you and everything.

- 43:45feel. Free to we.
- 43:49Lost. We lost.
- 43:50You I lost your vocals. Lost your vocals?
- 43:56Lost your vocals? Yeah, now it's going out.
- 44:00It's a little staticky. Yeah, Staticky.

- 44:07Yeah, but if you had a bad area, which you probably had a bad
- 44:10area. Yeah, What I was saying what we
- 44:14need to do is basically let her let them know what the whole
- 44:18mainstay was understanding because I I found out much a lot
- 44:22of a lot of vets they my uncle he he he fought.
- 44:26Nah, he had never filled the DD24 change out.
- 44:28He just he just I'm gonna die. I'm gonna kill him when I kill
- 44:32myself nephew each other every other day.
- 44:34I said you would have did it. You'd have did it 20 years ago.
- 44:36You're 80 years old. You ain't doing that.
- 44:39You're just talking about you just site going bad and they
- 44:43tell I don't get across from the G to Vietnam probably now I'm
- 44:46going blind. Probably.
- 44:47Like I said, it's called getting old.
- 44:49You get a hold, you lose your sight.
- 44:51Welcome to the jungle. Yeah, it was the jungle.

- 45:07All righty. All right, this is the front
- 45:09door to show you shows your show the military broadcast radio NB
- 45:13radio dot US All right, PSA coming back I got Lynn up next
- 45:17we going to talk to her. She was here last week on the
- 45:21episode and she said some things in her conversation that I want
- 45:27to unravel in some more depth. So I invited her to come back
- 45:31today. So she's going to be here
- 45:32sharing her story and some experiences.
- 45:35We call it the aspects of sickle cell trade, quality of life
- 45:38versus a cure. But also I wanted her to be a
- 45:41part of the becoming conversation today that we're
- 45:44having right. So I'm going to put this PSA
- 45:46come back. This is the front Dozy show NB
- 45:49radio dot US. Did you?
- 46:08See. The game last night.
- 46:10But did you? See the shot?
- 46:12I lost money. From that.
- 46:13Oh man, the shot was old man, but it was good.
- 46:15Yeah. What's the note?
- 46:24You really want to know. I do.
- 46:30Exhaustion Muscle. Spasm.
- 46:32Asthmatic issues? Are you serious?
- 46:38When I was young, I found. Out I had sickle cell trait, my
- 46:41mom's told me, but I didn't have no knowledge of it.
- 46:44But when I got older I had a child and the doctor told me my
- 46:46daughter had sickle cell trait. You know, the fact that both
- 46:49parents have sickle cell trait, there's a 50% chance the child
- 46:52may have the trait and 25% chance the child may have the
- 46:55disease. Man, that's what's the count do.
- 46:57You. Know that 2.5 million people in
- 46:59the United States have sickle cell trait, 300 million people
- 47:01globally. I didn't find out I had sickle
- 47:03cell trait until I was in the army 10 years.
- 47:06Make sure you know I had a sickle cell trait of nursery
- 47:08site A sickle cell. I.
- 47:10Thought that was a. Black.
- 47:11Gene or. Something Nah man, the black
- 47:13community is number 2. One out of 30. 6000 babies.
- 47:16Are being born with sickle cell disease.
- 47:17You could be a Caucasian Mediterranean European.
- 47:20You got rid of a bloodline, man. There is an inherited gene in
- 47:25our. Community that has been
- 47:27forgotten. The name is Sickle Cell Trade.
- 47:29WDCONSCT, also known as What's the Count, is out to bring

- 47:55y'all, but I'm going to let it slide right now.
- 47:57I'm a lie. I'm not going to play that
- 47:58video. WDCONST t.org For more
- 48:02information about sickle cell trait.
- 48:04And my guest today is Lynn. She's back to have a
- 48:08conversation with me. What's up Lynn, how you doing?
- 48:15Can you hear me? Hey, how are you?
- 48:17What's happening? I can hear.
- 48:18You it's calling in and out. But I can't OK come.
- 48:21On hanging in here, surviving. In this heat, man, it's fine to
- 48:25survive in the heat, hey? I don't know what it is.
- 48:28We we don't. We don't get you.
- 48:30We don't. I don't.
- 48:31Do we ever get used to the heat? I don't think so.
- 48:37So how you doing? You You Never.
- 48:38The East. I know.
- 48:39I'm from the East Coast, but this is not the kind of heat
- 48:42that how cool we normally have. Oh yeah.
- 48:47Yeah. All right.
- 48:48So. Thank you.
- 48:50Thank you for. Accepting the invitation to come
- 48:52and hang out today. I really appreciate that.
- 48:55Sure, definitely I was. Excited.
- 48:57I was like, oh, Part 2. Yeah, part. 2 Still balling.
- 49:02So, you know, you said some things on the last episode and I
- 49:06wanted to just kind of go back and just peel some of those
- 49:10layers off. Introduce yourself.
- 49:14How about introduce yourself 1st and then we'll get started.
- 49:16How's that? All right, I'm Lynn.
- 49:21Well, Madeline and I'm Mickey. I go by Lynn.
- 49:25I'm a super cell advocate, cancer survivor, mentor, tutor,
- 49:32teacher slash slash slash. I'm originally from Maryland,
- 49:40Davisburg, Maryland. I moved to California in 2010
- 49:44and I've been advocating since then, teaching and I'm also an
- 49:52artist. Graphic design?
- 49:53What design now Animation. Thank.
- 49:57You thank you. And again we we've been
- 49:58connected for for many years. I want to say early, early on,
- 50:03am I coming into the sickle cell break community and then
- 50:06connecting with the sickle cell community?
- 50:09But do you like this whole becoming thing for me, right?
- 50:13And, and, and I want our community, especially our sickle
- 50:17cell community that we know that we're more than just those
- 50:23genes, right? Those inherited genes, right?
- 50:25We know that there were more than genes.
- 50:28But for some people, you can hear in their conversation that
- 50:33the sickle cell is like, like I said, outside force, right?
- 50:39It's inherited. So it's, it's a part of us, you
- 50:42know, my sickle cell trait, I mean, we live with that.
- 50:44I mean, it's in our DNA, right? But sometimes you, we hear, I
- 50:48hear people describe it as an outside force, right?
- 50:52And if it's an outside force, then that means I'm battling
- 50:55with my sickle cell trait outside of myself, which then in
- 51:00it impacts as you're saying, you're a teacher, you're a
- 51:03mentor, you, you like you're, you're doing these things, but
- 51:06you be if you become those things, right?
- 51:09And so how do you let's go back to your childhood with the
- 51:13sickle cell. Let's, let's, let's go there
- 51:15first, right? So you growing up with sickle
- 51:18cell, young young girl, what was that like for you and your peer
- 51:24age, right, having to be living with sickle cell And then you.
- 51:29Know well I was going to say when I was younger there was a
- 51:38eight-year span where I still had the pedal hemoglobin helping
- 51:42me so I didn't have as many Pisces as I am now.
- 51:46It extended for like a 10 year gap.
- 51:49So when I was in my teens, preteen and well as a baby, I
- 51:54suffered. But in my teens nothing
- 51:58happened. I lived in my opinion, which was
- 52:01ordinary life like I was able to play sports, I was able to do
- 52:04after school activities, I played basketball, I played
- 52:09soccer, I played football. So I was living an active life
- 52:14during that time. But I still had to be aware of
- 52:18the fact that I had simple stuff and during the winter time I
- 52:24had, it came more to play because it would get extremely
- 52:28cold back home and I remember I got invited to play.
- 52:35Touch flag. Football and my mom was like,
- 52:38she wasn't having it. She was like, no, it's too cold.
- 52:40I don't want you to get sick. So going against the grain and
- 52:45kind of, you know, become this athlete.
- 52:48I put on like 16 sweatshirts and I was like, I'm playing.
- 52:52And my best friend at the time, he was like, you know, you're so
- 52:55fast, we're going to call you tornado.
- 52:57So when I called Tornado, that's when you just think about you
- 53:00won. I was so excited to play that I
- 53:05was like, I gotta go. My best friend and I, you know,
- 53:08decided that we leave the house early and say that we've got to
- 53:11spend the night at her house. And it was the thing, but I
- 53:16ended up playing it again and I was so excited.
- 53:19I was so happy that I actually did it.
- 53:23I didn't think about the long term effects of it, but.
- 53:26You know, I eventually told. My mom, but well, let me let.
- 53:29Me, let me let me back up a little bit.
- 53:30Highlight for me. But let me back up a little bit.
- 53:34Because you said something I want people to understand in
- 53:36this whole sickle cell as we advocate and educate and bring
- 53:39awareness, Right? So you, you, you, your s s.
- 53:42You have s s, right? Your s s.
- 53:46I have s s. Yeah.
- 53:48OK. So, so so I want.
- 53:49People to understand she has two sickle cell trait genes, right?
- 53:54Combined creates sickle cell anemia s s.
- 53:58But she mentioned that she had a level of hemoglobin F, the fetal
- 54:03hemoglobin that helped her in her crisis.
- 54:06And So what that does people, if you're not familiar with the red
- 54:09blood cell family, for some people that fetal hemoglobin is,
- 54:14is at, at at birth, maybe a year or two.
- 54:19It lasts for for most people and then it translates it, it dies
- 54:23off and then becomes your normal adult hemoglobin.
- 54:27Some people do maintain a level of fetal hemoglobin right, which
- 54:32is good. Red blood cells.
- 54:35They're they're producing. I mean, they're the those are
- 54:37the best, the amazing ones, right?
- 54:38They're the amazing red blood cell that he and so Can you
- 54:41imagine, you know her growing up with sickle cell assess and she
- 54:45has two genes that can mutate at any time and then she has a
- 54:49fetal hemoglobin that's a high percentage.
- 54:52So when she does have that crisis because of the fetal
- 54:55hemoglobin, not crisis is actually providing support in
- 55:00her blood cells. It reduces crisis in the body.
- 55:05And, and, and so I don't know if people really understand that,
- 55:07that that's why a hydroxyria is important for that was it was a
- 55:10cancer medication, but they use it for sickle cell because the
- 55:14hydroxyurea it raises the fetal hemoglobin in the body, right?
- 55:20So, but some people have natural fetal hemoglobin that produces
- 55:25even in their adult age. And so I do know some people
- 55:27that still have a high level, I don't know if it's like maybe
- 55:293-4 percent that have a high level of field hemoglobin.
- 55:33So their crisis seem of seem milder on the outside, right.
- 55:37But the body is still dealing with the organs.
- 55:39And I know the pain crisis, things like that.
- 55:41But yeah, I wanted to touch on that because I'm not I'm not
- 55:43sure if people heard that, that that gave you that assistance in
- 55:48your blood. You said for your teenage,
- 55:50pretty much your teenage years. Yeah, that's cool.
- 55:55Yeah. So, so did you ever talk about
- 55:58to your friends that you had sickle cell?
- 56:00Did you, did you, was that an open dialogue for you or did you
- 56:02not talk about the only person that?
- 56:06Knew was my best friend from high school, my best friend.
- 56:10I got to my sister. Hope that's the only person that
- 56:14was posted up in my life that I felt like I needed to express
- 56:17this to. Most of the people that I went
- 56:21to school with because of the fact that I was in my attendance
- 56:25was up and down. Unless we were really, really
- 56:28close, I didn't share my sickle cell.
- 56:34I didn't share the fact that I had sickle.
- 56:35Cell anemia. So I got a little older and went
- 56:37to the reunions or communicated with some of my friends back
- 56:41from home or in college that I, I kind of started talking more
- 56:46about it, but it took me some years to kind of, you're like,
- 56:50OK, well, I need to now tell people about this as opposed to
- 56:53them just saying or hearing I'm in the hospital or I'm sick or I
- 56:57can't come because of whatever the case may be, right?
- 57:01And, and, and so did did you, how did you manage that?
- 57:04How did you manage that though? Because now you're like, people
- 57:07don't know that you are having these crises and then then they
- 57:11see you one day and then they might not see you for two weeks
- 57:13and then they see you pop up again.
- 57:15So, I mean, how did you deal with that, not expressing that?
- 57:20I know there was something going on in your own mind, right?
- 57:24Yeah. When I was younger, I.
- 57:26Used to, I used to see it as a bad thing.
- 57:30I used to be like, why would God curse me with this?
- 57:34Like what did I do so wrong to deserve to have civil fail?
- 57:37Because I have two older sisters and neither of them have it.
- 57:42Not the trait, not any trace of it whatsoever.
- 57:45And it was like, there's three of us and I'm the I'm the lucky
- 57:48winner. So at that time, I was just
- 57:51thinking like, why me, you know? But as I got older and I started
- 57:56going to school and just learning more about myself and
- 57:59the things that I actually enjoyed doing, I said this could
- 58:02be seen as my superpower as opposed to it being a purse or
- 58:08something that looked at upon as bad.
- 58:12And I don't like the word disease, so I try.
- 58:16To use the word. Ailment or ailment because
- 58:19diseases. Consider this ease of the body.
- 58:26So you're not comfortable in your?
- 58:27Body and that's your body's reaction to whatever the illness
- 58:30may be so learning and just going to counseling and just
- 58:37retraining my brain to think of it in the terms of this is
- 58:41something that I've that is a part of my life, but I don't let
- 58:45it control my life so being aware of it and making sure I'm
- 58:50I'm. Taking care of myself.
- 58:53No matter what's going on health wise, I get lots of water,
- 58:57getting enough rest, not over exerting myself, but also being
- 59:02mindful that you know, life still has to happen.
- 59:05Whether you're in the hospital or you're out the hospital, life
- 59:07still goes on and that. Took me a long.
- 59:11Time to kind of get used to because like I said, that 10
- 59:14years span, nothing happened. So in my mind I'm like oh, I'm
- 59:19OK. And then transfer transition to
- 59:23a year age of like 20/19/20. That's when things started to
- 59:29change for me. I started to have to be more in
- 59:33the hospital. I started missing more school,
- 59:37there was like years where I ended up having to do
- 59:40homeschooling because my grades suffered so bad as a result, and
- 59:45then this year I was supposed to graduate.
- 59:49I ended up having my gallbladder erupted.
- 59:53Oh wow. I had gallstones.
- 59:57And it turned my whole face and body green and.
- 1:00:01My grandmother was still alive at the time, and she was like,
- 1:00:04you know, she's the proponent of eating at home and a healthy
- 1:00:08lifestyle. So she was just like, you know,
- 1:00:10you're eating outside and there's raw food and that's what
- 1:00:13got you sick because I was vomiting profusely.
- 1:00:16And she's not knowing, no, not realizing that it's because of
- 1:00:20the situation. She's thinking, I'm just not
- 1:00:23eating. I'm eating poorly.
- 1:00:26So she's like, you know, it's the whole food.
- 1:00:27It's the whole food. And I was like, go to this.
- 1:00:29It's not the Whole Foods this time.
- 1:00:31It's not, I promise you. And I ended up in the hospital
- 1:00:35and I had to have my gallbladder removed.
- 1:00:37And then that kind of just was a wake up call.
- 1:00:41I was like, I have to now change everything because of this
- 1:00:46illness. Like, I was hospitalized from
- 1:00:48months on. Then I literally lived in the
- 1:00:50hospital during that time. Yeah.
- 1:00:52Wow. And then again, thank you for
- 1:00:55for, for sharing that. And and again, you, you said
- 1:00:59something for me that I want to touch on for our not just people
- 1:01:03who are listening, but our community and, and from your
- 1:01:06only experience. But we don't, we don't
- 1:01:08generalize conversations. So we like to share our own from
- 1:01:10home space, but our lived experience can help other people
- 1:01:13look in their life right based of how we talk and how we share
- 1:01:17our personal experiences, I think.
- 1:01:21About. At the conference, the Sickle
- 1:01:23Soul conference I was at a couple of months ago, and I
- 1:01:27posed the question to the community about Can you imagine
- 1:01:30what it feels like for a child to feel like they're a burden on
- 1:01:32the family, right? And you saying that I'm, I'm,
- 1:01:37I'm one of three sisters. Nobody else has it.
- 1:01:40It could be a curse or it could be a superpower and depends on
- 1:01:43what that child lands on in that moment at that young mind at
- 1:01:47that young age. It could be the curse that they
- 1:01:49land on and then how the emotional state of the person
- 1:01:53grows up thinking that it's the curse or, or thinking it's a
- 1:01:57superpower, right. So can you speak to any of that
- 1:02:00part of that experience of was it a burden?
- 1:02:04Was it was like how did you language it for yourself?
- 1:02:07Well. When I was younger, I was very
- 1:02:14quiet and I kind of stuck to myself.
- 1:02:17I only had a few friends that I really communicated with, and
- 1:02:21the ones that I did communicate with, they were not fully aware,
- 1:02:26but they were like the ones that were invited for birthdays and
- 1:02:28stuff, or I was allowed to go to their house.
- 1:02:31My mom was very particular about me going out to people's houses
- 1:02:36or spending the night out because of my situation.
- 1:02:39So in that regard, I was very, what's the word?
- 1:02:43I can't think. Of the word I was very.
- 1:02:46Throws off innocent. OK.
- 1:02:49Yeah. And.
- 1:02:51At that age I was kind of like I felt a way about it because I
- 1:02:54was just like, you know, I'm 16 trying to celebrate my birthday
- 1:02:59and I have to stay at home because I'm being home schooled.
- 1:03:03So the birthday celebration was more so just me and my best
- 1:03:06friend Hope at my house would take.
- 1:03:08It was never like, oh, a huge party or whatever because I
- 1:03:12would always get so excited about having his birthday party
- 1:03:15or end up right back in the hospital.
- 1:03:17Yeah, yeah. Wow.
- 1:03:20And so that that transition, you clearly, clearly you you were
- 1:03:25able to start expressing with the superpower.
- 1:03:27You know, that superpower moment kicked in and you're like, OK,
- 1:03:31let me deal with this. And, and again, carrying that
- 1:03:34into your teens that I'm kind of pretty cool with this.
- 1:03:38And then the transition of the crisis start to happen.
- 1:03:42How did, how did you deal with that part of life?
- 1:03:44Now that, I mean, you're, you're 1920 years old now.
- 1:03:47You're you're, you're in an adult life phase transition.
- 1:03:54How you deal with? Because I wanted so I.
- 1:03:59Had so many dreams and apparitions of doing so many
- 1:04:02things and it honestly, if it wasn't for my mother, my sisters
- 1:04:07and my best friend, I don't even think I would have made it out
- 1:04:10of high school to be honest My. Sister, basically.
- 1:04:15Sat me down and was like, you know.
- 1:04:18It's up to you what you. Become if you truly want to do.
- 1:04:22This you have to. Be the one that's the driving
- 1:04:24force. Because in my mom and my
- 1:04:27grandmother's eyes, it was like, oh, you're sickly, so you can't
- 1:04:30do this, this and that. And I was always like, I don't
- 1:04:33want to not look at it in that way.
- 1:04:34You know, I want to go out and see the world.
- 1:04:38I want to do it all. But at the same time, I have to
- 1:04:40be realistic because I was like, you know, I can't.
- 1:04:43I have to be careful when I fly because of the changing out in
- 1:04:47the altitude. I have to be careful when I, you
- 1:04:50know, go from east to West Coast because of the cold weather.
- 1:04:53I have to be mindful of making sure I take my medication
- 1:04:57wherever I go if I run out. I actually used to be a mentor
- 1:05:01to a couple of typical patients, and one of the issues was one of
- 1:05:05them ran out of their medication.
- 1:05:07And I was like, it's hard because when you go from state
- 1:05:09to state, yes, they'll take care of you in another state, but you
- 1:05:13will have a bill going back home.
- 1:05:15Yeah, yeah, yeah. So I that.
- 1:05:18Was also something that I had to keep in mind and then just
- 1:05:24thinking like long term, where do.
- 1:05:26I want to live because. Of this illness, I love being
- 1:05:30home and all but the weather it just wasn't wasn't to my liking.
- 1:05:37Like I. Literally was.
- 1:05:38In and out the hospital, back-to-back to back-to-back to
- 1:05:42back. Like literally it was like
- 1:05:45paying rent each month because I was there.
- 1:05:48So yeah. You know, I appreciate you again
- 1:05:53for. Hanging out today and.
- 1:05:55Yeah, thank you for hanging out. Today and sharing your story
- 1:05:59before I let you go, let you get out of here again, you, you have
- 1:06:05accomplished a lot of things right?
- 1:06:10And I, I want to point to that because you know.
- 1:06:14When I When, when, when? When I hear our community talk
- 1:06:17and share and it's the stumbling blocks, it's the who's going to
- 1:06:22hire me when I'm sick or who's, where can I get a job at?
- 1:06:25Because I'm, I'm probably not going to last as long or, or, or
- 1:06:29I want to get fired or what, whatever.
- 1:06:31That whatever that living, avoiding that end result of the,
- 1:06:34that future of uncertainty that a lot of our a lot of people
- 1:06:38live from without, without sickle cell either just just
- 1:06:41human beings. We all lived in that already,
- 1:06:44right? That's an already identity
- 1:06:46crisis, right? And then you add on a chronic
- 1:06:49illness or condition and then it's like, like, who's going to
- 1:06:55hire me, you know, and, and so can you just share a little bit
- 1:07:01of part of that of you said aspirations, you had dreams and
- 1:07:05things like that. How did you, who did you have to
- 1:07:08become to take that step and say, you know what, I'm going to
- 1:07:12go and, and be this kind of person and then do this kind of
- 1:07:15work regardless of how I feel. And if I do get fired, I'm just
- 1:07:19going to get fired or I'm, I'm going to find a job that I don't
- 1:07:21get fired. Like so like, I mean, because
- 1:07:23there's before you answer that I want to say I'm asked this
- 1:07:27because, you know, even as myself coming out of the
- 1:07:30military and again, that what's next for a lot of my brothers
- 1:07:34and sisters, it's like now what do I like go to, what do I do?
- 1:07:40Like what do I do? What do?
- 1:07:42I do now like. But but I'm saying before you
- 1:07:45figure out what are you, what are you going to do?
- 1:07:49We got to figure out who we're going to be and the being of the
- 1:07:52human being experience because if we build up our experience of
- 1:07:56our self, then the doing is going to be fun.
- 1:07:58It's we just go at it. We always just I got because I
- 1:08:00got the confident, I got the self love.
- 1:08:02I got the self-confidence in this space that I can just do
- 1:08:05whatever I want, right? That's what we're talking about.
- 1:08:07I can, I can do that because I got the self-confidence, I got
- 1:08:10the self worth, I got the self esteem, but in the identity
- 1:08:14crisis for myself that I could articulate for you, it's when
- 1:08:18that identity is gone, I got to create a new identity or I'm or
- 1:08:23I think I have to create a new identity because that that
- 1:08:26person is not here no more. And so and I and so for our
- 1:08:30community, I believe it's so important that we help have
- 1:08:34conversations like we're about to have right now so that people
- 1:08:37can maybe discover your God-given talent.
- 1:08:41We say it, we say our God-given talent, but we don't live from
- 1:08:46our God-given talent. So, yeah, what is it?
- 1:08:49And so you've you've accomplished a lot and I
- 1:08:51appreciate that. And we've talked about going to
- 1:08:53some colleges and doing some talks.
- 1:08:54Now that you're California, you're back at it.
- 1:08:57You know, I'm getting back at it.
- 1:08:59And it's like you've done a lot and you've taken on teaching and
- 1:09:03those careers and those choices. What do you want to say to the
- 1:09:07community about that space that some people might be stuck in?
- 1:09:14I think it's important. First of all, to just know
- 1:09:18yourself as your limits and the things that you want out of
- 1:09:21life. Really, truly working on myself
- 1:09:25and finding out the things that interest me and excite me was a
- 1:09:28huge part of becoming who I am today.
- 1:09:31Because a lot of the times I didn't allow myself to even try
- 1:09:36it because I was like, Oh well, I'll be sick anyway, so there's
- 1:09:38no point. So I had to get out of that,
- 1:09:41that thinking in itself. But once I got a hold of that
- 1:09:47and I started to really be passionate and take different
- 1:09:50classes at school, I was like, you know, I really like art
- 1:09:54because of the fact that it's so free and it's not limiting to
- 1:09:58anything. So it allows me to have the free
- 1:10:01time to be at home. If I am in the hospital, I could
- 1:10:04still do art projects. So when I did get the job to
- 1:10:07teach, I had to advocate for myself because I was like, I do,
- 1:10:12I'm a great teacher, but I have sickle cell anemia.
- 1:10:16So I had to make sure that I was expressing that to them.
- 1:10:19And in the interview process, it's like, you know, everything
- 1:10:23sounds great, we love you and let's start.
- 1:10:25But I, I have to be like, well, there's a situation interview,
- 1:10:30by the way. Oh, by the way.
- 1:10:38Right. Right.
- 1:10:40By the way, I can only be here, well once once a month.
- 1:10:45I have to take off automatically.
- 1:10:48There might be times where I'm off 3 to 4 weeks or 3 or 4.
- 1:10:53Days at a time, so I might. Only be at work two to three
- 1:10:56days out of the week or I can only work part time so it just
- 1:11:04you. Have to find what?
- 1:11:05Works to you, and like I said, advocating for yourself is a big
- 1:11:09proponent. I was lucky enough to be able to
- 1:11:14get jobs while in my hospital bed.
- 1:11:16My very first job came because the director of the, I'm sorry,
- 1:11:24activities director, she was like, oh, you're so positive and
- 1:11:27upbeat and articulate. I would love for you to come and
- 1:11:30speak to some of the nurses and doctors about your experience.
- 1:11:33And I was like, wow, I didn't say I even.
- 1:11:37Thought about it, yes. So I.
- 1:11:42Kinda. You know, it did landed in my
- 1:11:45lap and that way I was lucky and I thank God.
- 1:11:49For it. Because I didn't really have the
- 1:11:52whole idea of teaching. When I thought of teaching, I
- 1:11:54was like, yeah, it's about life and theory, but can I
- 1:11:58realistically do it seven days a week, 365 days a year?
- 1:12:03Exactly. And then at the time, oh, go
- 1:12:07ahead, you know, teaching, you can't always just say, oh, well,
- 1:12:12I want to teach art because it doesn't always work like that.
- 1:12:15Sometimes you have to teach art. You have to eat history.
- 1:12:17You have to be physical education.
- 1:12:19You have to. Oh, yeah, right, right.
- 1:12:24You ain't teaching art all day. You got to teach PE fifth
- 1:12:27period, by the way. Cool.
- 1:12:31I'm I'm. I'm.
- 1:12:31Going to come back. I'm going to play APSA and come

- 1:14:30us veterans. All right, so, but I, I want to
- 1:14:34ask you these questions, not not questions, but just views of
- 1:14:39life, right, because we all live life from different views.
- 1:14:43And I, I and I had to go back and, and, and, and kind of
- 1:14:47revamp my whole, my whole thought process pretty much I
- 1:14:51had to just go back and just like my.
- 1:14:54Inside out care. If you guys watch Inside Out,
- 1:14:56I'm a huge inside out fan if you can get past.
- 1:15:00If you can get past the cartoon. Aspect of it and and watch it
- 1:15:04for for what this little girl goes through and her transitions
- 1:15:07in life Oh my gosh Oh my gosh you would have a better
- 1:15:12understanding of your own life right so I love how she had all
- 1:15:16those separate worlds and and every.
- 1:15:19Time there was a. Something that happened, each
- 1:15:20one got torn down and would break apart and break apart and
- 1:15:23tear down the friendship world and the family world and all the
- 1:15:26world like all the world. And then, but she rebuilds.
- 1:15:30Them up into this takes all those leftover pieces and she
- 1:15:33puts it all together. She's using the.
- 1:15:36Anger for the hockey and, and it's like, all makes sense,
- 1:15:39right? So for me, I had, I had to go
- 1:15:43back. I had to get a new philosophy
- 1:15:47right. Because my philosophy.
- 1:15:48Was corrupted with corrupted information, with corrupted
- 1:15:51stories that I made-up. So I had to take responsibility
- 1:15:53for my philosophy being corrupted.
- 1:15:55I had to get a new ideology of my ideas and how I thought from
- 1:16:00I had to get a new theology because because my theology was
- 1:16:04corrupted. It was religious.
- 1:16:06It was all the stuff that you hear and you see in the world
- 1:16:09today about religion, right? And once I once I got those
- 1:16:13situated, I looked at. So these are the.
- 1:16:18Aspects. There's there's, there's your
- 1:16:19spirituality, there's your mentality, right?
- 1:16:24There's your physical and then your emotional state.
- 1:16:27So I'm looking at like those four parts.
- 1:16:31Do you agree with any of those? And if you do, how do you, let's
- 1:16:34start with your emotional state. How do you or what do you use or
- 1:16:38how do you manage your emotional state of life when you were
- 1:16:43dealing with that? Well, like I.
- 1:16:47Said there. I'm a huge proponent for
- 1:16:50therapy. It's important and it's
- 1:16:53important our community particularly because there's so
- 1:16:57many stigma and so many things that go on and just.
- 1:17:02Being raised in. African American household that
- 1:17:06we just kind of brush under the rug and it's like, oh, don't
- 1:17:09worry about it. It'll work itself out.
- 1:17:10And it's that's just not real, you know, realistically, that's
- 1:17:14just not how it works. So I think therapy as far as
- 1:17:19getting to know who you are, your porch, your likes, your
- 1:17:23dislikes, what triggers your anger, what makes you angry,
- 1:17:28your passion, definitely important, he said.
- 1:17:35The four things like religion because of the fact that no, no,
- 1:17:39don't go there. Yeah, don't go there, don't go
- 1:17:42there. Yeah.
- 1:17:42Wait, wait, wait, hold on. I want.
- 1:17:44To I want to finish that that emotional state.
- 1:17:46So you're so you're saying for emotional is is definitely a
- 1:17:49therapy, right? So therapy for emotional state
- 1:17:53you got to. Find.
- 1:17:54You got to find. Something that you trust, that
- 1:17:56you believe in, that you have confidence in, in, in, in, in
- 1:17:59the therapy that works, right? And I appreciate that because
- 1:18:04my, my baby, she was, she's my baby sister.
- 1:18:07I mean, she a grown woman now, but she was, she's a, she's a,
- 1:18:11she has her own practice now, right?
- 1:18:13So she's, she worked for the education system, got her own
- 1:18:16practice, but one day on my show in 2016.
- 1:18:20So that means I was 46 at the time in 2016.
- 1:18:24And she was like, bro, I said something on the radio.
- 1:18:27I thought I was, I thought I was, you know, I thought I was
- 1:18:29saying something intelligent and, and she was like, whatever
- 1:18:34I said, she was like, brother, she's like, bro, you need
- 1:18:37cognitive behavior, right? And I was like, OK, and I took
- 1:18:43that. And I put.
- 1:18:43I put. A pen in it and put it in the
- 1:18:44back of my mind right and it wasn't until four years later
- 1:18:47that I went to the VA but I I was like hey, my sister I and I
- 1:18:52never forgot it like I never forgot it and I shout out to my
- 1:18:54baby sister Sheen I. Never forgot that seed that she
- 1:18:57planted. About cognitive behavior and I
- 1:19:00and why I needed the cognitive behavior was because the classes
- 1:19:04that I had been taking from 2011 until 2016, right?
- 1:19:13They, they taught us how to just be with your feelings and
- 1:19:16emotions. They taught you how to just be
- 1:19:17with your thoughts, right? You, we have 60,000 thoughts
- 1:19:21just with you can't stop your thoughts.
- 1:19:23You can't. You can't stop.
- 1:19:25Right, so so when you. Recognize your thoughts, you
- 1:19:29don't have to become your thoughts.
- 1:19:30And you could just be with the OK, that's OK.
- 1:19:33That, that, that we don't want that yet.
- 1:19:34But but I was like, there's got to be something else to the
- 1:19:36thoughts. Like there's got to be like,
- 1:19:38like, just be with them. Like, no, that's got.
- 1:19:41And so my sister, when she said that I caught him to be CBT, I'm
- 1:19:46like, OK, Oh my gosh. Connor's behavior therapy.
- 1:19:51Oh my gosh, Lynn, it was the icing on the cake because it it
- 1:19:58allowed me, it taught me to grab those thoughts and then take
- 1:20:02them and put them in that curriculum and then, hey, is
- 1:20:05that exaggerated? Is that habitual?
- 1:20:08Is that where is that thought coming from?
- 1:20:10As it no, you can't say all or none.
- 1:20:12What's the percentage of that? You can't you?
- 1:20:15I don't love. I don't love myself.
- 1:20:17Well, no, you can't say that. What?
- 1:20:18How much do you love yourself? Oh well, I love myself but.
- 1:20:22Yeah, right, I was. Like, Oh my God.
- 1:20:24So that was like, and I've done a lot.
- 1:20:28I've, I've been, I'm not going to say I've done a lot of work,
- 1:20:30but I've done a lot of work. But the CBT was like huge, huge
- 1:20:38because that, that's the, that's the tool that I use to unravel
- 1:20:41that I was abandoned by my mom. Like I use that tool, that
- 1:20:47practice, that education to unravel.
- 1:20:50Yes, so the. Thoughts So.
- 1:20:52You saying therapy for for the emotional state therapy for
- 1:20:54sure. OK, spiritual, let's go
- 1:20:59spiritual. How, how, how do you how do you
- 1:21:02what do you do? What do you use to manage your
- 1:21:04spirituality as a person before I go spiritual?
- 1:21:10Let me address what you were just saying.
- 1:21:11Go ahead, go ahead, go back to the.
- 1:21:13Emotional. Go ahead Because of having.
- 1:21:18Sickle cell You do sometimes get frustrated and upset and angry
- 1:21:23because it's. Like.
- 1:21:24Well, I, I, I want to do something else and I'm tired of
- 1:21:28doing the same thing and I'm tired of always being sick and
- 1:21:31I'm tired of looking out on the fun stuff.
- 1:21:33That's, that was my thought when I was younger.
- 1:21:35I was tired. I was like that.
- 1:21:37I was mad like, well, why can't I play basketball?
- 1:21:40Why can't I play football? Why can't I go to the concert?
- 1:21:44Why can't I go play in the snow? You know, so that anger, I
- 1:21:47understand it and that's why I say it's important to do therapy
- 1:21:52because you'll figure out what it is exactly that's fueling
- 1:21:57that anger. Because I was angry and I
- 1:21:59requested so much. That it would just explode.
- 1:22:04When I did, you know, get to that point, and it's something
- 1:22:08that I had to work on and I wasn't aware of it until I
- 1:22:11started talking to my friends back home.
- 1:22:13And they're like, you're like a whole different person in
- 1:22:15California. And I was like, what do you
- 1:22:18mean? And they're like, yeah, you're,
- 1:22:21you're like, oh, then now. And I was like, only then before
- 1:22:25they're like, no, no, maybe you were.
- 1:22:29You're not then. Yeah.
- 1:22:32So they're, they're definitely, you know.
- 1:22:33That is important. Therapy is top of the list.
- 1:22:38I'm telling I'm here to tell my brothers and sisters in arms
- 1:22:41therapy. Yes.
- 1:22:43That that frustration and that anger, the disappointment, the
- 1:22:47grief, the unresolved issue. Like a burden, a burden.
- 1:22:52Exactly, yes, exactly all that. So therapy for sure sounds like
- 1:22:56there's. No post.
- 1:23:00To burn. Yeah, that's tough.
- 1:23:04So especially. From the mind.
- 1:23:06Of a child too, right? Especially.
- 1:23:08Especially the mind. Of a child exactly.
- 1:23:11Like where do you? Who do I turn to as a child?
- 1:23:14Wow, that's a good one. OK, which one you want next?
- 1:23:19You want physical? It doesn't necessarily.
- 1:23:21Oh. Go ahead, we can do physical.
- 1:23:27No, I was going to say it's harder for children sometimes to
- 1:23:29express their emotion when dealing.
- 1:23:32With. Pain because it's like I'm in
- 1:23:34pain but I don't know how to voice that I'm in pain and I'm
- 1:23:36angry about some other stuff that happened at school.
- 1:23:38So it just blows up. And because I used to work with
- 1:23:42pre-K to 3rd grade, I would see it a lot.
- 1:23:46And I was like, I know it's positive.
- 1:23:48I used to be that kid. And then I.
- 1:23:51Also work with at. Risk you too.
- 1:23:53So I understood them more, you know?
- 1:23:56Yeah. Because I was like, I did.
- 1:23:58Why you're mad I did. What happened?
- 1:24:00I get. I get.
- 1:24:03What's leading? You to not want to come to class
- 1:24:06or feel like because I, I had a kid tell me straight up like I
- 1:24:10can make more on the corner doing what I'm doing.
- 1:24:13They're coming in here and looking at you every day.
- 1:24:19Yeah, you know that's. That's a real life.
- 1:24:21I didn't know what. To say at.
- 1:24:22The time I'm just like there's. Nothing.
- 1:24:25There's not much to. Say that education.
- 1:24:27Is. Important PP I'm loving it.
- 1:24:33OK, no, let's let's let's go to spirit let's go to spiritual
- 1:24:36hot. That's that's a hot topic
- 1:24:38spiritual. So how, how do you, how today
- 1:24:41looking back and now, how do you do your spiritual aspect of
- 1:24:45life? How did you how do you take that
- 1:24:46on? Well, growing up, I was.
- 1:24:50More religious and I did the church thing and I went to a
- 1:24:56Catholic school, all girls Catholic school.
- 1:24:58I went to Trinity University. They didn't enforce it, but it
- 1:25:04was there. But at the time.
- 1:25:08It was like unless you were. Graduating.
- 1:25:10That was the only time you really had to go to the service.
- 1:25:14But it was there if you. Wanted to, you know, you wanted
- 1:25:17to go pray or vent or you were stressed out about school or
- 1:25:21whatever the case might be. They had Sunday service every
- 1:25:24Sunday. But it took.
- 1:25:27Me a while to break free from religious, virtual spiritual,
- 1:25:33I'm now more spiritual and I like what the guy that you were
- 1:25:36talking to earlier in the show said about Agape, universal
- 1:25:40love. That's the highest form of love,
- 1:25:43and I learned. That when I started to.
- 1:25:45Go to church out here in California.
- 1:25:53I'm sorry I had a cramp. You got a cramp.
- 1:25:56This is real life, ladies and gentlemen.
- 1:25:58We're live. Live.
- 1:25:59Cramps on the air. That's what it looks like when
- 1:26:06you get a cramp, ladies and gentlemen.
- 1:26:08But hello. Yeah, go.
- 1:26:12Ahead I. Think you froze?
- 1:26:14Go ahead. No, I was going.
- 1:26:18To say adopt A center, the adopt A center, I used to go to the
- 1:26:22adopt A center. They moved from down the street
- 1:26:24from my house, but I used to go there and it's that's where I
- 1:26:29learned about spirituality and not having to focus so much on
- 1:26:34the religious, religious teachings of, you know.
- 1:26:40You were going to go to hell if. You did XY or Z?
- 1:26:44Yeah, because. Those.
- 1:26:45Teachings that it really threw me to a place where I was like,
- 1:26:47well I feel bad because now I'm not doing everything that I'm
- 1:26:51supposed to be doing it it gives me it gave me anxiety Oh yeah,
- 1:26:55for sure. So I.
- 1:26:56Really. Learned a lot by going to the
- 1:26:59center because you know, God is has always been present in my
- 1:27:06life. I'm not.
- 1:27:08I wouldn't be where I am today without that aspect of it at
- 1:27:12all. Because when I had.
- 1:27:16Near death experiences and I was like literally hearing voices
- 1:27:21and messages like I would go to sleep and wake up and it's like,
- 1:27:25am I am I tripping or then I really just like have a dream.
- 1:27:30So I say all that to say that it's important to listen to
- 1:27:35those angels or those voices, your ancestors, whatever signs
- 1:27:41that may be coming to you. And it is important to have some
- 1:27:46type of spirituality or connection because you need it,
- 1:27:50especially in this day and age with everything that's going on.
- 1:27:52Oh yeah, even if you're. Not religious.
- 1:27:56Spirituality is definitely important because we deal with a
- 1:28:00lot of stickers in general for sure.
- 1:28:03Everyday struggle is hard. So having super self compounded
- 1:28:08on top of that, you know, you have to have some type of inner
- 1:28:12workings or something because it does help in terms of like
- 1:28:15depression, anger, frustration, resentment.
- 1:28:22The list can go on and on. And on yeah, no there.
- 1:28:26Thank you. I mean, that's my take on it.
- 1:28:28Definitely important I. I was I grew up in that
- 1:28:31religious aspect of it and like you, I was like, that's too
- 1:28:34perfect. Like I got to get out of here
- 1:28:36because I ain't I'm not here to play with it.
- 1:28:38So I'm out like, so I was like, I'm out of here.
- 1:28:41You know, I can't listen to my rap music.
- 1:28:42Oh, I can't listen to my jazz and and no, I'm out of here,
- 1:28:45right. That was my and and I I was gone
- 1:28:4920 years before I had a conversation with my mom at 40
- 1:28:52and she was like, say it don't work like that.
- 1:28:54I'm like what? And then when she like, you
- 1:28:57don't want that in your life, go to God, pray, take, take it to
- 1:29:00him and pray about leave it at the altar.
- 1:29:01And, and if, if you really want it out of your life, it'll,
- 1:29:04it'll go away. And I was like, well, I wish I
- 1:29:07would have told me that when I was like 16, because I would
- 1:29:11have, I would have been at it. So, and then now to get back at
- 1:29:15it, you know, the last seven years like full force.
- 1:29:18But I came back because my I came back not because my dad
- 1:29:21passed. But it was I was in that mindset
- 1:29:25that I was looking. At my.
- 1:29:30Kind of my own years now, how much time I got left and, and I
- 1:29:32didn't want to live like that. And so I the God like, hey, man,
- 1:29:36I'm going to find you for myself.
- 1:29:38I heard you're it's a relationship.
- 1:29:40And so and I did, I, I gave all that stuff that my mom was like,
- 1:29:43give it to him and I, I took it to him.
- 1:29:45And it's like, look, I don't want if, if it's not for me to
- 1:29:48have the music, man, you know, I'm, I'm here, I'm here.
- 1:29:51You take it away and you got to be.
- 1:29:54Careful what? You ask for because he will, he
- 1:29:57will take it away. And, and for me it was the
- 1:29:59beautiful part was it was that he took it away.
- 1:30:03You might get it. Yeah, but he took the.
- 1:30:05Music away because the music it taken it away allowed me to heal
- 1:30:10from the music and when I. Healed from the music.
- 1:30:13And sanctified the music with the Word and the gospel and, and
- 1:30:17practicing the principles. Now the music doesn't trigger
- 1:30:21me. Now the music is the soundtrack
- 1:30:23and it reminds me of the great stuff about my childhood.
- 1:30:25It doesn't take me back to the upsets and the frustration.
- 1:30:28So sometimes, you know, people, we have to walk away from that
- 1:30:31music because it's, it's a trigger.
- 1:30:34It will take your, my heart back to those painful moments.
- 1:30:37And right so, and I, I learned it for myself.
- 1:30:40Like, oh, man, like, you know, and so I do, I do listen to it,
- 1:30:44but it's not the fact that I, I the only thing I listen to
- 1:30:48because it's, it's a soundtrack to our life.
- 1:30:50And you can't deny I can't walk around like I can not going to
- 1:30:52hear rap music in somebody else's restaurant, a car.
- 1:30:55Then I got to I got to get out of here because they're playing
- 1:30:57rap. No, you, you OK?
- 1:30:58I remember that song. And then I followed.
- 1:31:01Up with some scriptures. What did God say about that?
- 1:31:03Oh yeah, remember what God said about that?
- 1:31:05So it's a balance, you know, and, and, and your heart
- 1:31:09posture, when you really, when you really practice it, your
- 1:31:12heart posture changes and some aspects you, you get convicted
- 1:31:17and you transform and you take responsibility.
- 1:31:19Then all the stuff that you said now and you kind, you're
- 1:31:21patient, you're loving, you're caring, you're all those, those
- 1:31:25ways of being that, but for yourself first.
- 1:31:27So I appreciate you. And then for religion, like it's
- 1:31:31not right around good or bad, because it's not for me to judge
- 1:31:33people where they believe. I get to listen to hear where
- 1:31:36you are and, and then ask more questions.
- 1:31:39And how did you get there? Because maybe my, my, my views
- 1:31:42is a little bit different, right?
- 1:31:44But I don't make yours wrong either.
- 1:31:47But I don't have to, you know, but so it's, it's a fine line.
- 1:31:52And then today that a lot of that is weaponized.
- 1:31:54Religion has been weaponized for years.
- 1:31:57You know, that that that's what that is.
- 1:31:59We got ACBT, we got ACBT comment.
- 1:32:01CBT is amazing because it teaches us exactly that CBT was
- 1:32:06off the chain baby. I recommend that.
- 1:32:09I recommend that for anybody who's looking at therapy.
- 1:32:12I'm like start there, start there with the triggers.
- 1:32:17All right, we got a couple more. We got.
- 1:32:19We did. Oh.
- 1:32:22That's your friend? Oh, OK.
- 1:32:25Yeah, she. Was dropped.
- 1:32:26She dropped it. He or she dropped it right
- 1:32:28there. Yeah, I believe so.
- 1:32:31Yeah, CBT. All right, so we got spiritual.
- 1:32:35We did. We did emotional, mental, the
- 1:32:39mind. Oh my gosh, when I understood
- 1:32:43the mind, the brain, that's what I opened up the show with.
- 1:32:47The brain is powerful. Ladies and gentlemen, if you
- 1:32:50don't understand how your brain operates, I'm I'm not a
- 1:32:54therapist. I don't want to be a therapist.
- 1:32:56I'm not a psychologist. I'm not none of that, but I was
- 1:32:59able to go and learn just the basics about my own, how the
- 1:33:04brain works, and then how I show up in that and my behavior and
- 1:33:08my mental and the conscious mind and the conscience mind and the
- 1:33:11subconscious mind and understanding that.
- 1:33:13Yeah, it's three pieces that work together, but each one does
- 1:33:17his thing in our perception and perspective.
- 1:33:23Right, right. All like all of that.
- 1:33:25And when you understand, I was like, Oh my gosh, like I'm in my
- 1:33:2940s learning about my brain like for.
- 1:33:34Real. Beautiful, beautiful to
- 1:33:37understand. That's a that's a beauty.
- 1:33:38Of it beautiful, So what? So when you when you hear
- 1:33:43mental, your mentality, your mental and we talk about the
- 1:33:46mind again, I learned that the brain is the brain is design of
- 1:33:52perception patterns, memory patterns and action patterns,
- 1:33:57right? Other than the normal neurons
- 1:34:00firing off neurons fight. That's really what the brain is
- 1:34:02doing is just firing neurons off it.
- 1:34:04But because of of us as having the soul and the mind willing
- 1:34:09emotions and the language. Now those, those stories mean
- 1:34:14that mind means something in the subconscious mind.
- 1:34:16It means something in the conscience mind, your thoughts
- 1:34:19in the conscious mind. So now you got we're working
- 1:34:21with all of that. And when I realized for myself
- 1:34:24that that voice in my head wasn't for Ron, I was like, you
- 1:34:29got to be kidding me. That voice is not that voice has
- 1:34:32been talking to me since I was a child.
- 1:34:36I thought that was me, right? Right.
- 1:34:38You mean that voice ain't me? Right.
- 1:34:40Who is that The Who is that in there talking all that trash,
- 1:34:43being cynical and judging people and talking crazy to myself and
- 1:34:47giving me warnings? You better not do that.
- 1:34:49Remember what happened the last time you did that?
- 1:34:51You better not raise your hand. You better not say nothing.
- 1:34:53You know you how embarrassed you was the last time you did that.
- 1:34:55Remember that pain? Oh my gosh, you mean that's not
- 1:34:59me? A good example of.
- 1:35:04What you're talking about is the movie Inside Out.
- 1:35:09It's a great example of it in living color, and I say that to.
- 1:35:15Say. I watch cartoons all the time
- 1:35:19just to calm myself down because I have anxiety, but at night, to
- 1:35:24kind of get with myself calm and comfortable enough to go to
- 1:35:28sleep, I watch cartoons. I'm a huge Disney fan and I love
- 1:35:33cartoons. I'm actually doing, Like I said,
- 1:35:36I'm excited about doing animation, so that's one of my
- 1:35:40favorites. Inside Out.
- 1:35:42This is my guy right here. Because that was me.
- 1:35:44Oh, that. Is not, I think yeah.
- 1:35:50Did you see soul? Oh, soul was.
- 1:35:52Good too, yes, There's so many lessons in soul.
- 1:35:55Too exact. That's another one that was
- 1:35:57good. That's soul.
- 1:36:00But anxiety, I'm telling you, it's the battle.
- 1:36:03It's the battle of the mind. And then so last one of of
- 1:36:09course, last one. No, go ahead.
- 1:36:11No. Go ahead now I was going to say,
- 1:36:15I think it's. Important words have power and I
- 1:36:17have to learn that. I have to learn that because
- 1:36:22like you were saying, you know, about what you say and how you
- 1:36:27say things tends to definitely resonate in in Word.
- 1:36:33So because of the cell you're saying to yourself, oh, I feel
- 1:36:36deceited or I feel upset, or I remember being embarrassed
- 1:36:40because I said something foolish or I said to.
- 1:36:43I felt like I said too much that my sister told me the other day
- 1:36:47she was like, you know, you need to stay on topic because you
- 1:36:51have a tendency to get off topic.
- 1:36:53And I said, you know what, you're right.
- 1:36:56So I just have to now stop and take my time to let it resonate
- 1:37:03and then respond. Wow.
- 1:37:06'Cause I have a tendency that I'm.
- 1:37:07Going to forget. So I try to get it all out as as
- 1:37:10fast as I can. Right, right, right, right.
- 1:37:15I feel like I'm rambling now. I'm saying too much.
- 1:37:18I'm doing too much, right? And and and thank you for that.
- 1:37:23Thank you for for breaking those down for me.
- 1:37:24And the last one, of course, I'm no, I don't want to say you've
- 1:37:27mastered it, but I'm sure you are very aware of the physical,
- 1:37:31right? But, but the physical though,
- 1:37:34check this out though. I want to, I want to point to
- 1:37:36the physical, not from the sickle cell, from our, from our
- 1:37:39trait crisis and our pain crisis, but more of the body.
- 1:37:45I've heard for years that the body keeps the score, right?
- 1:37:48So when you, when you, when I, when I, I'm going to use myself
- 1:37:51an example. When I started doing my work,
- 1:37:56understanding that those anxieties, pains that I had
- 1:38:02growing up and my knees was so crippling.
- 1:38:04Like when I, when my, my anxiety kicked in, I would have to go
- 1:38:07sleep it off. Like I couldn't even walk, like
- 1:38:10I could barely move. And it'd be plenty of times
- 1:38:14where I just go lay down and I'm, I'm sleep, I'm sleeping,
- 1:38:18I'm, I'm done for the night because the anxiety in my body
- 1:38:21is just so tense and it's so crippling.
- 1:38:24But as I started to heal the, the, this, the mental, as far as
- 1:38:29to heal the emotional, it was like, Oh, I can recognize where
- 1:38:33that's coming from. Oh, that, that's a thought that
- 1:38:35made that happen. That's not, that's not me.
- 1:38:38That's a thought that could. And then sometimes the body does
- 1:38:42its own thing on its own. It'll give you a sensation.
- 1:38:44And then the thought come where, where that, where that pain come
- 1:38:47from. Oh shoot, that's that's from
- 1:38:50that. 14. Year old child emotion, or
- 1:38:53that's from that 23 or that's from that 11 year old.
- 1:38:56So when I was able to connect the body sensations with the
- 1:39:00stories, I was able to unravel that thought and that experience
- 1:39:05from the body sensation. And it was amazing to be able to
- 1:39:10recognize where that gut pain came from.
- 1:39:13That I always thought was a part of me, but it was a part of the
- 1:39:17story, right? So the physical part of for me
- 1:39:21is that part is, is how do we, you know, tell the truth to our
- 1:39:25self about maybe that body has stored some trauma, has stored
- 1:39:32some emotional pain. And that's what's actually you
- 1:39:35feeling, not what you actually think it is as far as whatever
- 1:39:40else. And so when I learned that the
- 1:39:42body late in age, now this is, I'm, I'm, I'm talking in my 50s
- 1:39:46that I'm learning the body keeps a score.
- 1:39:49And that's what that is. And I've experienced, you know,
- 1:39:52letting go of that pain that was from the 8 year old that my mom
- 1:39:55abandoned me. Like there was a gut Richie pain
- 1:39:58that I'm, that was a body sensation to that decision.
- 1:40:02And so for you, you know, now you're managing crisis pain,
- 1:40:06you're mad, you know, you're managing neurological pain
- 1:40:09because now the from the, from the whole nerve damage possibly,
- 1:40:13you know, so we understand that in our community that we have
- 1:40:16crisis pain and you have. Nerve pain that that may never
- 1:40:19go away right and then you got the emotional pains how do have
- 1:40:24you does that make. Sense to you in in.
- 1:40:27In how you live your life and view, you know your, your, your,
- 1:40:30your physical. Well, it definitely makes a lot.
- 1:40:39Of sense I know for me, grief, going through the grief of
- 1:40:43losing my mother really impacted me deeply, physically,
- 1:40:49emotionally, mentally. And just learning more about
- 1:40:55myself through therapy and reading, I realized that I carry
- 1:41:01a lot of that tension and that stress in my body.
- 1:41:05So sleep is a huge, huge, huge, huge factor in my life and my
- 1:41:10well-being. Because if I don't get rest, my
- 1:41:13mind starts breathing, I start having these crazy dreams and
- 1:41:17thoughts and then I can't sleep. And I like I I.
- 1:41:21Mentioned the last time I went days.
- 1:41:24Literally 3-4 days without sleeping.
- 1:41:27Had I gotten for day seven, I wouldn't have been here to still
- 1:41:30tell you the story. Wow.
- 1:41:34Wow, wow, wow. It got.
- 1:41:36It got. It got it got life was lifing.
- 1:41:39I'll say that life is definitely lifing, but through prayer,
- 1:41:47reading and having friends and family that have been absolutely
- 1:41:53amazing and supportive during this whole journey, I'm able to
- 1:42:00talk about it today. Because as I said last time, I
- 1:42:03wasn't. I had cut off social media, I
- 1:42:05had cut off friends, I had cut off the world.
- 1:42:08I had just stopped. I wasn't doing anything it.
- 1:42:12Took me. Months to get out of the bed to
- 1:42:15actually get up and go brush my teeth.
- 1:42:17It took me months to get out of the bed and just go do basic
- 1:42:20stuff because I just stopped. I know, I know that life shut
- 1:42:25down everything. Shut down.
- 1:42:28I know that life real. Well, there was no art
- 1:42:30happening. There was no teaching happening.
- 1:42:34I was. Done with the kids.
- 1:42:35That's for the homework I tap out.
- 1:42:41Wow man. You did.
- 1:42:45You did. Though you did though when you
- 1:42:47send me that message, I'm like, oh, somebody on jacked somebody
- 1:42:49on jacked her mess, her Facebook Messenger talking about hey,
- 1:42:53hey, how you been? Let's let's let's do some more
- 1:42:55talks. Can you send me, send me a text
- 1:42:57over here. I'm like, I ain't sending you no
- 1:42:58text. I don't even know where.
- 1:43:00This ain't even your account. I was like, who Where you been?
- 1:43:03I was like, where you been? I see you in like 5.
- 1:43:08Years. Six years.
- 1:43:09Like who is this? I'm gonna send.
- 1:43:11Me a text message I don't really be on.
- 1:43:13Facebook, I was like, Nah, I falling for that one you're
- 1:43:17trying to steal. My.
- 1:43:18Information I was on guard with your I was.
- 1:43:23Like spam. I was like this I.
- 1:43:24Was like somebody that stole her account.
- 1:43:26I I went and looked for your other account.
- 1:43:28Like, wait a minute, this ain't her.
- 1:43:31That was hilarious. But that's how guarded.
- 1:43:33Look at my brothers and sisters at arms.
- 1:43:35They know that's how we are. Hey, I'm not clicking on
- 1:43:38nothing. And and if I don't if.
- 1:43:41I'm. Who, who are you?
- 1:43:44This ain't this ain't her. She don't even talk.
- 1:43:46I'm like, she don't even talk like that.
- 1:43:48She don't even talk like that. And then you want to send me a,
- 1:43:50a cell phone number to text you on?
- 1:43:52Oh heck no, I ain't following by that.
- 1:43:56But it was you though. You see the story I made-up,
- 1:44:00right? Off the top like this.
- 1:44:02Right off the top, made-up a story.
- 1:44:03Like this ain't her I'm. Guarded.
- 1:44:07I'm guarded. But I'm glad.
- 1:44:08I'm glad I responded and it was you.
- 1:44:11It's, it's good to see that you're back at it.
- 1:44:14Like I said, we did a lot of stuff in the past and just
- 1:44:17looking forward to, to doing some more work with you as we
- 1:44:21move forward. I mean, here we are cool.
- 1:44:25So, alright, So what do you want to say to the people we'll get
- 1:44:27out of here? Cool.
- 1:44:29Oh yeah, Yeah. What do you want to say to the
- 1:44:32people? Definitely want to say that.
- 1:44:36Definitely want to say. That it has been a journey and I
- 1:44:42will be sharing more of my story on my social media because I'm
- 1:44:46actually in a place now I'm ready to.
- 1:44:50But little by. Little sharing instances of what
- 1:44:54actually took place on accounts. So definitely follow me on
- 1:45:02Instagram. I'm on TikTok.
- 1:45:06I'm not on there often, but I do have a TikTok.
- 1:45:10I'm on Instagram and Facebook more.
- 1:45:13Well, I try. To be on it more when you say
- 1:45:15that. So, you know, just know that
- 1:45:20it's not, it doesn't have to be the end for you when you find
- 1:45:25out that you have super cell or when you find out that you're
- 1:45:27diagnosed with cancer or you find out that you, you know,
- 1:45:31your life has changed because you're now 40 and you might feel
- 1:45:35like you haven't gotten anywhere because of the disease or excuse
- 1:45:38me, because of the illness, whatever.
- 1:45:42It may be that's true. That's true.
- 1:45:45Just because you got cancer? The business, like your life,
- 1:45:48has to stop and. Losing my mom.
- 1:45:51Just made me look at life differently completely and it
- 1:45:54made me want to do more and see more and become more because she
- 1:45:59lived her life like. She did everything that she
- 1:46:03wanted. To do before she passed, well,
- 1:46:06almost everything, but she definitely worked hard and she
- 1:46:12saw the world. She was able to see the world.
- 1:46:15Before she did. Go on to the next phase in life.
- 1:46:19But I admire her hard work and the determination.
- 1:46:23Because when she was. There she went through
- 1:46:25chemotherapy like a chance. She took pictures.
- 1:46:27She was silent. She was like, you know this, I'm
- 1:46:30not going to let this thing beat me.
- 1:46:33And I tried to definitely take. That disease, you know.
- 1:46:38Yeah. You know we, we.
- 1:46:40Talk about that as well, said diagnosis.
- 1:46:42Topical. Yeah, we talked.
- 1:46:45About that as well, even as an identity for my veterans, my
- 1:46:49brothers and sisters who are listening at arms even taking on
- 1:46:54the, the, the, the identity of being disabled, right, or those
- 1:46:58illnesses that cause us to be disabled.
- 1:47:01You know, some people take those diagnosis and they they embrace
- 1:47:04it and they and they die off even faster because they've
- 1:47:08taken that, that identity and that burden of that disease.
- 1:47:12And then the lifespan gets. I don't know if people only
- 1:47:14really understand that that's that can happen though, that if
- 1:47:18you take that on and you wear that and you own it, it.
- 1:47:22It can be. Emotionally, physically damaging
- 1:47:25stress. That's all you.
- 1:47:27That's all you focus on. So the people have, hey, now I'm
- 1:47:30like, Oh no, like, Oh no, like I'm glad I was able to.
- 1:47:35God has allowed me to go through this process, even though it was
- 1:47:39again, if you would have told me what, what my life was going to
- 1:47:41look like today, I've been like, Nah, bro, you can have that one.
- 1:47:43Give me, give me, give me another one.
- 1:47:45Give me something else. I don't want none of that.
- 1:47:48I don't want to be attacked in my mind as a child, bro, no,
- 1:47:52man, no. Give me that life.
- 1:47:54But here we are, you know, and he's using everything that he
- 1:47:58knew that I could take past those tests.
- 1:48:02He knew that I could pass those tests.
- 1:48:03And I'm very grateful. Very great.
- 1:48:07Thank. You for hanging out to get.
- 1:48:08Over the. Hurdles.
- 1:48:10Yeah, we here we. Are here we are so thank you for
- 1:48:12hanging out today again Lynn I appreciate you for Part 2 you
- 1:48:17know getting. This conversation through thank.
- 1:48:19You for making it through the pain, through the cramps.
- 1:48:24So. I'll.
- 1:48:25Catch. Up with you on the.
- 1:48:26Social, I'll catch up with you on the social media side.
- 1:48:28And again, thanks for your time today.
- 1:48:33No problem, Take care. And I look forward to the next
- 1:48:35time next time. Thank you so much.
- 1:48:39All right, this is the Frondosier show MB radio dot USI
- 1:48:43want to play something for you. You know, I was able to be a
- 1:48:47part of another conversation with connect to my sickle cell
- 1:48:50trade exertion was the Rabdomyelosis.
- 1:48:53The Rabdo conversation is so, so, so important and there are
- 1:48:57so many things that can trigger Rabdo in itself, right?
- 1:49:02And so I want to play some PS As for you and then I'm going to
- 1:49:09show you the website. So let me see what this one is.
- 1:49:11That was the full 1. I don't want to play the full.
- 1:49:13I might play the full one one day.
- 1:49:15That one is 7 minutes. I might play these.
- 1:49:17Matter of fact, you know, I might.
- 1:49:18I'm going to save it. I'm going to take a day and just
- 1:49:21have a rap dose show and I will have a guest and I'm just going
- 1:49:24to go through these processes and show you.
- 1:49:27I'm not going to tease you. Let's play this one right here.
- 1:49:29This is an investigative report that I was being I was able to
- 1:49:32be a part of that came out to my area, interviewed me, took my
- 1:49:39story and I had no idea what it was going to look like.
- 1:49:44So this is my part of my clip of it around my sickle cell trade
- 1:49:50in the military. They were studying military and
- 1:49:52people with sickle cell trade and rather milosis and what's
- 1:49:55going on with our bodies, right? So grateful that the military is
- 1:49:58actually taking a look at that. They're retesting soldiers for
- 1:50:02sickle cell trade, retesting the new soldiers coming in with
- 1:50:05sickle cell for sickle cell trade, identifying soldiers and
- 1:50:09figuring out how to reduce these collapses in the sudden death.
- 1:50:13So I'm going to play this and leave you with this right here.
- 1:50:16But this is what I'm working on. This is what?
- 1:50:19I'm working on in. Addition to my advocacy work so
- 1:50:24this is let me see we're going to go here Oh, there it is right
- 1:50:27there Let me see see we're going to do this we're going to raise
- 1:50:36that up a little bit right there So what does that look like over
- 1:50:38here OK, that's cool right there All right so this is an
- 1:50:42investigative report that was a part of sharing a little bit
- 1:50:45about my story about rhythm myelosis and and this is this
- 1:50:49condition this disorder. 200,000 people.
- 1:50:55Plus they say have rado milosis and you might have heard it in
- 1:51:01CrossFit. CrossFit.
- 1:51:03Got a bad rap? Connected to rado milosis
- 1:51:06because in CrossFit you go from one extreme exercise to the next
- 1:51:10extreme exercise. No breaks, no water.
- 1:51:13You're pushing past, you're pushing past, you're pushing
- 1:51:15past. And then some people in those
- 1:51:18exercises with this condition call Rabdo.
- 1:51:21So check this out real quick, according to the Cleveland.
- 1:51:26Clinic kidney injury occurs in up to half of Rabdo cases.
- 1:51:31My kidneys are at 50%. Each.
- 1:51:32It's a complication. Former Sergeant first class for
- 1:51:36ON Dozier experienced first hand while serving in the Army in
- 1:51:402006. Everything was spent like a
- 1:51:42million. Miles an hour.
- 1:51:43It happened during an army. Physical fitness test right
- 1:51:46after the final Sprint of the two mile run for Ron was rushed
- 1:51:51to to the hospital physically. I.
- 1:51:54Was in I was in a very bad state.
- 1:51:55I had severe muscle damage, I could barely walk.
- 1:51:58But the mindset of a soldier, you don't complain.
- 1:52:01He survived the ordeal and. Tried to get back to his old
- 1:52:04self that says ongoing health problems ultimately led to his
- 1:52:08medical retirement in 2013. I had a lot of mental and.
- 1:52:11Physical pain at that time, and the pain is still.
- 1:52:14With him today, Blocked has never recovered.
- 1:52:16Fully I still deal with the Vertigo.
- 1:52:18If I move too fast or I move my head too fast, I could still so
- 1:52:21trigger it. Faron has since dedicated.
- 1:52:23His life to spreading education and awareness.
- 1:52:27About Rado HPC. You too Rado before.
- 1:52:29Engaging military. Personnel, athletes and youth
- 1:52:33nationwide, you can experience it.
- 1:52:35Or you might be the person that saves that person's life, given
- 1:52:38the intense mental. And physical requirements.
- 1:52:41Faron says it's a conversation that's especially important in
- 1:52:45the military. There's a lot of push ups.
- 1:52:47There's a lot of mountain crawls.
- 1:52:48It's the repetitive mountain crawls soldiers, military
- 1:52:51personnel are. Our number one human.
- 1:52:54Asset. And so.
- 1:52:55Figuring out ways to protect that and that.
- 1:52:58Is. Again, that conversation very
- 1:53:01important, so I'm going to take a day and then bring awareness
- 1:53:04to that. There's some conversations that
- 1:53:05we're having. It's a public health issue.
- 1:53:09A lot of the deaths that we've seen connected to heat stroke
- 1:53:13because it looks like heat exhaustion looks like heat
- 1:53:15stroke, But some of those that's are actually connected to
- 1:53:22rhabdo, eucretinine kinesis levels, your CK levels.
- 1:53:26Mines were 12,000 that day when I collapsed.
- 1:53:29They're supposed to be in 150. And so I've met people who have
- 1:53:32had their CKS in the hundreds of thousands.
- 1:53:35I've met people 300,000. I met people who had to learn
- 1:53:39how to walk again. They had to learn how to do all
- 1:53:43these, those functions again because they had so much severe
- 1:53:46skeletal muscular damage. And for me, unfortunately or
- 1:53:50fortunately, with my sickle cell trait, my damages, you know,
- 1:53:54we're a little bit different and I, my body just never fully
- 1:53:59recovered back to what I would call my, my normal.
- 1:54:03Now I have a new normal, right? So I can't run, I can't
- 1:54:06exercise, I have fatigue, the Vertigo, a lot of stuff that
- 1:54:11secondary health complications from that right?
- 1:54:13My my kidneys got back together. They were at 50% each.
- 1:54:18But for me, the skeleton muscular, the joint damage with
- 1:54:23my trade, I believe that was like I said, that was just the
- 1:54:26trigger in that episode. And here we are.
- 1:54:30Right. So I appreciate you, but we'll
- 1:54:32be just we'll be doing some more talks about that Rabdo coming
- 1:54:35up. But yeah, I think today was
- 1:54:38pretty good. And I may or may not be here
- 1:54:40next week. I can't promise you, God willing
- 1:54:43may take a a day off next week. The ABA if you want to follow us
