- 0:05Speaker 1: Hey guys, we are back on normally the show with
- 0:07Speaker 1: normal it's tickets, but when the news gets weird, I'm
- 0:09Speaker 1: Mary casting him, and I'm Carol Markowitz. How are you, Mary, Catherine.
- 0:13Speaker 1: I'm doing good. It's Halloween week, so we're just like pushing.
- 0:17Speaker 1: We're pushing to Friday, when we're gonna get all cracked
- 0:19Speaker 1: out on a lot of candy and then we'll see
- 0:21Speaker 1: what happens next week.
- 0:22Speaker 2: I need a costume. I am not good at this
- 0:24Speaker 2: kind of stuff. If you have suggestions, people send it
- 0:26Speaker 2: my way. If my husband could be involved, that would
- 0:29Speaker 2: be a plus. We're just we're not those people, but
- 0:31Speaker 2: our block is having a block party, so we're trying.
- 0:34Speaker 1: Let me work on this for you. Yes, please, I
- 0:36Speaker 1: am those people.
- 0:37Speaker 2: Yeah, you could include our nine year old, who also
- 0:39Speaker 2: doesn't have a costume, but he prefers shirtless costumes because
- 0:42Speaker 2: it's hot in Florida and he's you know, he likes
- 0:45Speaker 2: to show off his chest anyway.
- 0:47Speaker 1: He's him, he's him, He's very much him, and he
- 0:50Speaker 1: enjoys saying that. So I love it. That kid cracks
- 0:54Speaker 1: me up. Oh my goodness, oh gosh. We need to
- 0:58Speaker 1: get into the news. We do what's not cracking us
- 1:01Speaker 1: up is the somewhat inevitable, seemingly uh election crashing upon
- 1:07Speaker 1: us of Zoron Mamdani in New York City. And yeah,
- 1:12Speaker 1: have you have you detected a shift in his message
- 1:17Speaker 1: over the past couple of days?
- 1:19Speaker 2: You know, I have to tell you, and people are
- 1:21Speaker 2: not going to want to hear this. He's acting like
- 1:24Speaker 2: somebody who has won the election and is now pushing
- 1:27Speaker 2: his real issues that he cares about.
- 1:30Speaker 1: Mm hmmm, so a couple of times recently, Yeah, two
- 1:35Speaker 1: clips he's speaking about, not affordability, not economics. Now you
- 1:40Speaker 1: and I don't agree that his proposals on any of
- 1:43Speaker 1: those things will work. Yeah, but he's shifted at least
- 1:46Speaker 1: his front facing message to identity is, which.
- 1:50Speaker 2: Is what he really cares about. Identity is still the
- 1:54Speaker 2: you know, the feeding trial of the left. They won't
- 1:57Speaker 2: get away from it.
- 1:58Speaker 1: And he's in pole position to win, and so why
- 2:00Speaker 1: not return to his true love?
- 2:04Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 2:04Speaker 1: And what does that mean for the city is a
- 2:07Speaker 1: real big question because I think you know, Andez, one
- 2:11Speaker 1: of our buddies who lives in New York said, you know,
- 2:13Speaker 1: she's been hearing the identity portion of this candidacy throughout
- 2:17Speaker 1: from canvassers. I think coverage of him has been lighter
- 2:21Speaker 1: on that perhaps to not make this an issue. The
- 2:25Speaker 1: New York Times has been happy to play defense for
- 2:28Speaker 1: him by saying, anything.
- 2:29Speaker 3: You point out about his old rhetoric on nine to eleven,
- 2:33Speaker 3: it's all islamophobics racist, Yeah, but now he's like touting
- 2:38Speaker 3: this story of his aunt was afraid to ride the
- 2:41Speaker 3: subway after nine to eleven, And I just want.
- 2:44Speaker 1: To say, this is like liberal fiction. Yeah, the United
- 2:48Speaker 1: States of America, including the leader of the United States
- 2:51Speaker 1: of America, who they thought was a Texan trougla dyte, right, well,
- 2:55Speaker 1: it was like extremely open and kind. Absolutely.
- 3:00Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 3:00Speaker 2: You know the Norm McDonald joke about Islamists blowing up,
- 3:05Speaker 2: you know, detonating a nuke, And what he's really concerned is,
- 3:08Speaker 2: can you imagine the islamo phobia that will follow?
- 3:11Speaker 1: The truth is that was us.
- 3:13Speaker 2: We were concerned that Islamophobia would follow. Everybody was super
- 3:16Speaker 2: careful not to be islamophobic. Everybody, you know, separated the
- 3:22Speaker 2: terrorists who were all Muslim from the peaceful Muslims that
- 3:27Speaker 2: we imagined lived around us, and there was there was
- 3:30Speaker 2: this break of this is not their religion.
- 3:34Speaker 1: So this crazy idea that his.
- 3:37Speaker 2: Aunt was afraid to ride the New York City subway
- 3:41Speaker 2: in a hijab after nine to eleven, it's questionable, it
- 3:45Speaker 2: really is.
- 3:45Speaker 1: Well, there's now some reporting done on this that suggests
- 3:49Speaker 1: the only aunt he has was not in New York
- 3:51Speaker 1: at the time and doesn't work a huge job. So
- 3:54Speaker 1: I assume he'll adjust his story to say, like, when
- 3:57Speaker 1: I say aunt, I mean just yeah on family, an
- 4:00Speaker 1: undesignated family press. Yes, yeah, but this sort of ranking
- 4:06Speaker 1: of victimhood seems, right, Carol, very central to who he is.
- 4:12Speaker 1: The problem is not so much that like it. You
- 4:17Speaker 1: don't have to go to Islamophobia to say, I have
- 4:20Speaker 1: seen what's happened in European cities when a large influx
- 4:25Speaker 1: from Muslim countries of emigrants demand not equal treatment, but
- 4:31Speaker 1: different treatment than everyone else gets, and a multicultural, very
- 4:35Speaker 1: liberal society will be knuckle under that will end up
- 4:40Speaker 1: in a bad place.
- 4:41Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 4:42Speaker 2: I've gotten to a place where I just kind of
- 4:43Speaker 2: want to comment all the time it's the liberalism because look,
- 4:47Speaker 2: you know, and I said this on our friend Guy
- 4:49Speaker 2: Benson show, Thailand has a very large Muslim population, that
- 4:53Speaker 2: you absolutely never hear about. Singapore has a very large
- 4:56Speaker 2: Muslim population that you absolutely never hear about.
- 4:59Speaker 1: It's not the Muslims, it's the liberalism.
- 5:02Speaker 2: It's the fact that they're saying to these people who
- 5:05Speaker 2: come into their country, we will cater to you.
- 5:08Speaker 1: We will make it however you want it to be.
- 5:10Speaker 1: We don't care.
- 5:11Speaker 2: About our own values or our own background, our own history.
- 5:15Speaker 2: And Thailand and Singapore they're not saying that, and they're
- 5:18Speaker 2: not having the same outbursts that European cities are having.
- 5:22Speaker 2: So I will say, it's not Islam, it's not Muslims,
- 5:25Speaker 2: it's the liberalism. And I think it's the liberalism for
- 5:28Speaker 2: so many different things. I you know, when my Jewish
- 5:31Speaker 2: friends say, nobody's you know, cared about me after October seventh,
- 5:35Speaker 2: none of my friends have commented or whatever, I'm like, Yeah,
- 5:38Speaker 2: it's the liberalism because all of my friends have Actually.
- 5:40Speaker 1: Yeah, no, it's it's a real potential issue because you
- 5:45Speaker 1: have to have the I have to have the gumption,
- 5:51Speaker 1: the what it takes the balls to stand up for
- 5:53Speaker 1: your own culture. And the thing about liberalism is that
- 5:56Speaker 1: they don't think our culture is good.
- 5:58Speaker 2: Right, Yeah, therein lies their whole issue if your culturesism. Perhaps,
- 6:05Speaker 2: if your culture is not good, then why not let
- 6:07Speaker 2: it get taken over by a different culture. Also the
- 6:10Speaker 2: Europe problem, and I know, I think I've talked about
- 6:12Speaker 2: this book maybe five times on recent shows America alone.
- 6:16Speaker 2: Mark Stine wrote this book in the early two thousands.
- 6:18Speaker 2: It was about how Europe is not having children and
- 6:20Speaker 2: they are importing this you know, class of people from
- 6:24Speaker 2: these countries that hate them, and these people don't like
- 6:26Speaker 2: them either, and they're not having kids.
- 6:29Speaker 1: It was the central theme of it.
- 6:31Speaker 2: And we are so there right now because also in
- 6:33Speaker 2: Europe it's like you don't like your culture and you're
- 6:36Speaker 2: not having any kids that you care about passing your
- 6:38Speaker 2: culture along to you end up in a really bad spot.
- 6:43Speaker 1: Well, a lot of people came out for Zoron at
- 6:46Speaker 1: a big rally this weekend, and AOC was speaking there,
- 6:50Speaker 1: and I guess, let's just play a clip or two
- 6:52Speaker 1: to give a sense of the of the message at
- 6:56Speaker 1: this route. Let's do it.
- 6:57Speaker 6: This city was built by the High Irish escaping fan
- 7:01Speaker 6: and Italians fleeing fascism, Jews escaping Holocaust, Black Americans fleeing
- 7:08Speaker 6: sand slavery, and Jim Crow not being thos didn seeking
- 7:13Speaker 6: a better life, Native people standing for themselves, Asian Americans
- 7:18Speaker 6: coming together in Queens in Brooklyn.
- 7:21Speaker 1: It's like Brooks.
- 7:23Speaker 6: Manicin it's step is island in this country in a
- 7:28Speaker 6: vision to build the freest top this and greatest city
- 7:34Speaker 6: on earth.
- 7:35Speaker 1: Howard Dean esque with the listing of locations there, she forgot.
- 7:39Speaker 2: The natives, which is gonna be a bit of a
- 7:42Speaker 2: pickle for her.
- 7:44Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't know.
- 7:45Speaker 2: Also, Jews escaping the Holocaust. There really wasn't that much
- 7:48Speaker 2: of that so well, Jews had been there for a while.
- 7:52Speaker 1: Also, also that line, you know, they're like they stick
- 7:54Speaker 1: it in the middle so the crowd doesn't go boom right,
- 7:59Speaker 1: Like little bit of an issue for them. Yeah, No,
- 8:02Speaker 1: I think the progressives in this crowd. I don't think
- 8:06Speaker 1: there's anything wrong with this message. This message is fine.
- 8:09Speaker 1: She should rehearse it a little bit better so it
- 8:11Speaker 1: comes out smoothly. There's another part that I thought was interesting,
- 8:15Speaker 1: where she protests too much. Here's another clip of ac.
- 8:19Speaker 5: But we must remember, in a time such as this,
- 8:23Speaker 5: we are not the crazy ones New York City. We
- 8:29Speaker 5: are not the outlandish ones New York City. Well, they
- 8:35Speaker 5: want us to think we are crazy. We are saying.
- 8:42Speaker 1: If you need to say it, when you need to
- 8:45Speaker 1: say it, it give me a problem. She also said
- 8:47Speaker 1: something about, you know, sending our money to bulldoze Palestinian
- 8:52Speaker 1: lives instead of paying for things here America first, is she? Yeah?
- 8:59Speaker 1: I guess so.
- 9:01Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't know the crazy line, Nick, what is
- 9:04Speaker 2: a woman?
- 9:04Speaker 1: We could just start there. Do you know what a
- 9:06Speaker 1: woman is? Because if you do, then let us know,
- 9:08Speaker 1: because it doesn't seem like you do.
- 9:11Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 9:11Speaker 1: Look, I think this is the future of this party.
- 9:14Speaker 1: If mom Donnie wins a very clearly the brightest star
- 9:19Speaker 1: in their firmament, AOC is joining up with him because
- 9:23Speaker 1: she wants to be a bright star in the firmament.
- 9:25Speaker 1: They are both Democratic socialists, Yeah, as is their other
- 9:29Speaker 1: best buddy, who is not as bright as star Bernie,
- 9:32Speaker 1: somewhat letting than the star. Yeah. But look, they're attractive
- 9:38Speaker 1: and compelling and this is their message and the message
- 9:41Speaker 1: shift is noticeable, notice for sure.
- 9:45Speaker 2: I mean, look, I'm not counting on November going well
- 9:49Speaker 2: for Republicans anywhere. I am racing for losses in New
- 9:54Speaker 2: York City, in Virginia, hopefully not New Jersey. But I
- 9:57Speaker 2: think in New Jersey as well. It's just it's tough.
- 9:59Speaker 2: These are blue states, very blue states. It will be
- 10:02Speaker 2: portrayed as a rebuffed President Trump. But the truth is
- 10:06Speaker 2: these are you know, blue slash pretty.
- 10:09Speaker 1: Purple stateable states.
- 10:10Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 10:10Speaker 2: Yeah, you're like, I don't call me a blue state.
- 10:12Speaker 2: Don't call my state a blue states. That's your I
- 10:16Speaker 2: mean like, it can be a purple, it's purple. It
- 10:21Speaker 2: can be purpleish read under perfect circumstances.
- 10:23Speaker 1: Yeah, and these are not perfect circumstances. I think. I
- 10:26Speaker 1: think New Jersey is interesting. I saw the apparently first
- 10:30Speaker 1: time consolidated endorsement of a Republican candidate by the Orthodox
- 10:34Speaker 1: Jewish communities. I saw that and councils, which is interesting.
- 10:38Speaker 2: I think it is, except they were all going to
- 10:40Speaker 2: vote the Republican anyway. It's just their leadership made a comment,
- 10:44Speaker 2: but they were all going to.
- 10:46Speaker 1: Do that already. So you know, I'm just I'm not
- 10:49Speaker 1: trying to get my hopes up here. I get it.
- 10:51Speaker 1: And although it matters that you reach these very specific,
- 10:54Speaker 1: smaller communities unless you're putting a lot of them together
- 10:58Speaker 1: and getting them out to vote. So it's difficult to
- 11:01Speaker 1: turn that into a win, but it was indicative of
- 11:04Speaker 1: something like momentum. To me, Yeah, that these leaders were saying,
- 11:07Speaker 1: for sure, we're seeing something.
- 11:09Speaker 2: And should it really came close four years ago? I
- 11:11Speaker 2: hope that means something. I think New Jersey again. I'm
- 11:16Speaker 2: rooting my pants off for Virginia, I promise, but I
- 11:19Speaker 2: think I think New Jersey is going to be the
- 11:21Speaker 2: closest one. I think if these races can be kept close,
- 11:26Speaker 2: that'll be a good thing for Republicans going forward. If
- 11:29Speaker 2: New York, if I'm Donnie, can lose by just a
- 11:32Speaker 2: little bit instead of blowing it out, that'll be good,
- 11:35Speaker 2: you know, even even if New York City has to
- 11:37Speaker 2: have a Commy mayor for four years.
- 11:40Speaker 1: Speaking of Oh, actually, let's take a break here on normally,
- 11:44Speaker 1: and we will be back in a few with some
- 11:46Speaker 1: news on Virginia, particularly from the redistricting angle. All right,
- 11:53Speaker 1: we are back on normally talking redistricting, which is this
- 11:57Speaker 1: battle that has started across the US. There's always been Jerrymanderin, Like,
- 12:01Speaker 1: let's just put that out there. It's a it's a
- 12:03Speaker 1: very old term for a reason. Texas decided to do
- 12:07Speaker 1: mid district mid decade redistricting on a different schedule, partly
- 12:12Speaker 1: because the census got a bunch of stuff wrong. In
- 12:14Speaker 1: twenty twenty. When Texas decided to do that, California was like,
- 12:18Speaker 1: ha haa Democrats will show you. Yeah, we're gonna do
- 12:21Speaker 1: it too. Except their problem is that it's already getting
- 12:24Speaker 1: to it, because they already did it in a bunch
- 12:26Speaker 1: of places, including like Massachusetts, with there's zero Republican representation
- 12:30Speaker 1: in Maryland and Illinois anyway, So there's this battle going
- 12:34Speaker 1: on in Virginia. The Democrats have decided to join this battle.
- 12:38Speaker 1: They have called an emergency session of the General Assembly
- 12:43Speaker 1: and Senate in Virginia, which is complicated because it takes
- 12:47Speaker 1: Lieutenant Governor wins Sears off the trail in the last
- 12:51Speaker 1: two weeks by design or anything. Oh, I'm sure it's not.
- 12:55Speaker 1: So they're bringing them back because they want to try
- 12:57Speaker 1: to subvert the Virginia Redistricting Commission, which was formed with
- 13:04Speaker 1: a statewide vote, not not the legislator, a statewide vote
- 13:10Speaker 1: supported by the ACLU among others, and the AARP that
- 13:15Speaker 1: at seventy percent Virginia voters wanted this redistricting commission, not
- 13:19Speaker 1: the Assembly, to do stuff, and so now they're like,
- 13:23Speaker 1: we're gonna do something different, and we're gonna do it
- 13:24Speaker 1: in the two weeks before the election. And wouldn't you
- 13:26Speaker 1: know it, the coverage of Virginia's Democratic candidate Ali Gil
- 13:30Speaker 1: Spamberger is so nice from CNN. Virginia Democrats are set
- 13:35Speaker 1: to join the redistricting war. Their candidate for governor is
- 13:39Speaker 1: staying out of it. Yeah, because you're letting her right
- 13:43Speaker 1: like she's like, oh, no comment, And CNN's like, oh,
- 13:46Speaker 1: I guess she's not involved. Crazy.
- 13:51Speaker 2: Amazing that grace that they get is always amazing too.
- 13:55Speaker 1: It is amazing. That's right, that's ongoing in California. They
- 13:59Speaker 1: cantinue to try to redistrict. This one also required. This
- 14:02Speaker 1: one requires a constitutional amendment to change California's voters' wishes
- 14:07Speaker 1: for how to deal with this. And Arnold Schwarzenegger is
- 14:10Speaker 1: fighting against Gavin Newsom's fight to redistrict. And he was
- 14:14Speaker 1: on Jake Tapper's show and he had some interesting pushback
- 14:17Speaker 1: to the media narrative and to Gavin Newsom on this.
- 14:19Speaker 7: Here's Arnie as you as you acknowledged this all started
- 14:23Speaker 7: because of redistricting in Texas. And this was Trump pushing
- 14:26Speaker 7: Republican controlled states to throw out their current congressional maps
- 14:31Speaker 7: so as to cook the book so that there is
- 14:34Speaker 7: less it is less likely for Democrats to retake control
- 14:38Speaker 7: of the House during the next year mid terms. I mean,
- 14:42Speaker 7: is it fair to argue that do you believe that
- 14:45Speaker 7: the Republican Party is starting this?
- 14:49Speaker 8: No, jake, There has been cherrymandering going on for two
- 14:53Speaker 8: hundred years. There is such extreme cherrymandering going on in
- 14:59Speaker 8: the state likes Choosetts. It has like forty percent of
- 15:02Speaker 8: the people voting for Trump, they only had they have
- 15:05Speaker 8: er a representative. The Republican Party has zero representatives sent
- 15:10Speaker 8: to the House. Think about that. In New Mexico, have
- 15:13Speaker 8: forty five percent of the people voted for Trump and
- 15:16Speaker 8: vote Republican and Cyril is sent to the House zero
- 15:21Speaker 8: representative from the Republican Party. So there's cherry mandering, crazy
- 15:25Speaker 8: cherrymandering going on all over the country. And we wanted
- 15:29Speaker 8: to try to stop it in California, and we did
- 15:32Speaker 8: stop it in California and be made around the country.
- 15:34Speaker 8: So I think this whole thing about finger pointing and
- 15:37Speaker 8: said they did it, so therefore we should doing it.
- 15:40Speaker 8: That's not really the way to go that one party
- 15:43Speaker 8: should outperform the other party. It should be performance. And
- 15:46Speaker 8: when it comes to midterm elections, as you know, always
- 15:49Speaker 8: the party that is not in the White House usually
- 15:52Speaker 8: wins by twenty twenty five thirty seats. So what does
- 15:56Speaker 8: five seats matter in the first place? In Texas, it
- 15:59Speaker 8: is crazy should outperformed them that Actually.
- 16:04Speaker 1: Oh, Arnie, I know, it's like comforting to see him.
- 16:08Speaker 1: It's like he'll be back in my hell, be back. Yeah,
- 16:12Speaker 1: he's back.
- 16:13Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 16:14Speaker 1: And it's funny because I you know, I haven't like
- 16:15Speaker 1: loved him in the.
- 16:16Speaker 2: Last few years, but he there's something about.
- 16:19Speaker 1: Him that I did miss a little bit. I mean,
- 16:22Speaker 1: I'll always listen to a Schwarzenegger sound by Yeah. Sure,
- 16:25Speaker 1: but he's he's correct on the facts here, and he's
- 16:28Speaker 1: fighting for something that he fought for when he was
- 16:32Speaker 1: governor of California, and uh so there you have it.
- 16:36Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 16:36Speaker 2: And it's like Jake Tapper being like, didn't this start
- 16:39Speaker 2: in Texas? And schwartz eniggas like, actually, it's two hundred
- 16:43Speaker 2: years ago.
- 16:46Speaker 1: Oh goodness. So meanwhile, we should talk a little bit
- 16:49Speaker 1: about the past that Democrats are getting on the shutdown
- 16:53Speaker 1: which continues.
- 16:54Speaker 2: Yeah, is a shutdown still going, because I don't feel
- 16:57Speaker 2: like I've heard about that.
- 16:58Speaker 1: In any of the main shoe media. Yeah. So it
- 17:02Speaker 1: is remarkable the chill coverage that this shutdown is getting
- 17:06Speaker 1: because Democrats are the culprits on this one, and it's
- 17:09Speaker 1: kind of hard to get around that. Right now, the
- 17:14Speaker 1: SNAP program, which is the USDA's food stamp program, is
- 17:19Speaker 1: about to be cut off, which, again, if Republicans had
- 17:25Speaker 1: voted twelve times not to open the government, I feel
- 17:28Speaker 1: I feel that this would be a large story. And
- 17:30Speaker 1: by the way, Bethany pointed out today, if you go
- 17:33Speaker 1: to the usdu A website, it will tell you who
- 17:36Speaker 1: voted twelve times to cut these benefits contend something. Yeah,
- 17:41Speaker 1: they're doing they're doing the messaging, but yeah, things things
- 17:47Speaker 1: could get quite bad. By the way, also for the economy,
- 17:50Speaker 1: which it's not great to have sort of lack of
- 17:53Speaker 1: spending from people who are reliant on various forms right
- 17:57Speaker 1: around the holiday season, like they're not paying the christ
- 18:01Speaker 1: Republicans would pay. But I do think this is eventually
- 18:04Speaker 1: going to be like, oh, are we going to keep
- 18:06Speaker 1: this up?
- 18:06Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 18:07Speaker 2: Absolutely, Selna Zito points out that the country's largest union
- 18:12Speaker 2: representing federal workers is urging Democrats to abandon their current
- 18:15Speaker 2: position and join Republicans and supporting a stop gap solution.
- 18:19Speaker 2: I think, you know, people are really hurting, and they
- 18:22Speaker 2: don't care if it benefits the Democrats to keep the
- 18:26Speaker 2: government closed. The quote is it's time to pass a
- 18:28Speaker 2: clean continuing resolution and end this shut down today, no
- 18:32Speaker 2: half measures and no gamesmanship. That's from the American Federation
- 18:35Speaker 2: of Government Employees President Everett Kelly.
- 18:38Speaker 1: Yeah, this is their constituency, which is one of the
- 18:40Speaker 1: issues Democrats are running into. They're saying, like, media is
- 18:43Speaker 1: on our side, federal workers are on our side. Just
- 18:47Speaker 1: hush until what until what magical moment is going to
- 18:50Speaker 1: change here? Right, because the workers are seeing that the
- 18:55Speaker 1: calculus doesn't magically change.
- 18:57Speaker 2: Yeah, because I don't think Republicans are going to bend
- 19:00Speaker 2: on this.
- 19:01Speaker 1: Why should they?
- 19:01Speaker 2: They're you know, well, and I think why should they
- 19:04Speaker 2: include a Democratic proposal into a clean bill?
- 19:07Speaker 1: Yeah, And the most likely person to bend is Trump,
- 19:10Speaker 1: who's not particularly ideologically invested in not having these subsidies.
- 19:14Speaker 1: But he seems thus far from what I'm hearing and
- 19:17Speaker 1: from what my healthcare friends are getting out of the
- 19:19Speaker 1: White House. He's like, nah, yeah, nah good.
- 19:22Speaker 2: I mean, you know, I think that's the right play
- 19:25Speaker 2: for Republicans here, especially if the Americans realize that it's
- 19:30Speaker 2: not their fault, which is a rare rarity with the
- 19:33Speaker 2: media lined up against them.
- 19:35Speaker 1: When you got the facts on your side, it's helpful. Okay,
- 19:38Speaker 1: back to California for a bit, Carol. Gavin Newsom is
- 19:42Speaker 1: he running? Is he? We'll be right back on that.
- 19:48Speaker 2: We are back on normally where you will be so
- 19:51Speaker 2: surprised to know that Gavin Newsom is planning to run
- 19:55Speaker 2: for president in twenty twenty eight.
- 19:57Speaker 1: Not every single thing that.
- 19:59Speaker 2: He's done in the last four to eight years has
- 20:02Speaker 2: pointed in that direction.
- 20:03Speaker 1: So I assume you're shocked at this news. Yeah, he says.
- 20:07Speaker 1: I believe the verbiage was he's open to it, Caroll. Yeah,
- 20:10Speaker 1: is he open to it?
- 20:11Speaker 2: He's way open to It's extremely open to you. I mean,
- 20:15Speaker 2: one of the only stories in Kamala Harris's book that
- 20:18Speaker 2: you know, I was interesting to me to read was
- 20:21Speaker 2: that she reached out to Gavin Newsom to support her
- 20:23Speaker 2: on the day that she was announcing or whatever, and
- 20:27Speaker 2: he was he wrote back hiking like we'll get back
- 20:29Speaker 2: to you, and then never got back to her.
- 20:33Speaker 1: I mean, ye is one of his more relatable moves.
- 20:38Speaker 1: The one thing he hasn't been doing for the past
- 20:41Speaker 1: four to eight years is running his state. Well, clearly
- 20:44Speaker 1: I have. I have not been able to bring myself
- 20:46Speaker 1: to read this particular New York Times piece, but I
- 20:49Speaker 1: just started it. Yeah, I just want to like read.
- 20:52Speaker 2: Uh.
- 20:53Speaker 1: This is Helene Olan's tweet on this piece. This piece
- 20:57Speaker 1: is utterly horrifying how California and Los Angeles's utterly enupt
- 21:01Speaker 1: and uncaring government does nothing to put a stop to
- 21:04Speaker 1: a three mile strip of underage street prostitution dubbed the
- 21:08Speaker 1: Kitty Stroll by local cops. This is the man who
- 21:12Speaker 1: thinks his record is good enough to be He's going
- 21:15Speaker 1: to point Helene and say we're great. And Helene is
- 21:18Speaker 1: no conservative.
- 21:19Speaker 2: This is you know, the fact that she is saying
- 21:23Speaker 2: this is not a great sign.
- 21:24Speaker 1: For also kind of a real quick we're still mad
- 21:27Speaker 1: bro quote from this piece. Part of that boom happened
- 21:32Speaker 1: during the pandemic, when many girls were out of school
- 21:35Speaker 1: and immersed in social media, where traffickers lurked. Teachers who
- 21:39Speaker 1: would ordinarily follow up on absences or report signs of neglect,
- 21:43Speaker 1: could not.
- 21:44Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, and look, Bridges Fantasy points out that Gavin
- 21:48Speaker 2: Newsom signed SB three point fifty seven, the bill that
- 21:51Speaker 2: made trafficking miners in particular worse, and that Abigail Schreier
- 21:55Speaker 2: wrote about.
- 21:55Speaker 1: It two years ago in City Journal. This is not news.
- 22:00Speaker 2: This has been going on in California for a while,
- 22:02Speaker 2: and it's it's really terrible. I hope Gavin Newsom is
- 22:07Speaker 2: held accountable for this kind of stuff. He will get
- 22:09Speaker 2: a pass from the media and smoke will come out
- 22:12Speaker 2: of our ears, but we will do our best to
- 22:14Speaker 2: cover it here on normally. Also in Gavin newso News,
- 22:19Speaker 2: he is apparently trying to say that his childhood had
- 22:24Speaker 2: a lot of hardship.
- 22:25Speaker 1: Catherine, let's roll this clip.
- 22:28Speaker 9: So you know, it was also about paying the bills man,
- 22:31Speaker 9: and it was just like hustling and and so I
- 22:34Speaker 9: was out there kind of raising myself, turning on the
- 22:38Speaker 9: TV started, you know, just getting obsessed, you know, sitting
- 22:42Speaker 9: there with the you know, the wonderbread and five stacks of.
- 22:46Speaker 1: You know, like the white.
- 22:50Speaker 9: Come every day every day in the back yard, just
- 23:00Speaker 9: bouncing the basketball throwing the ball against the wall until
- 23:04Speaker 9: the ball is just like fraying, man, and you're that's
- 23:07Speaker 9: it whole thing, so just and and then you know,
- 23:10Speaker 9: then this student that was shitty students in the back
- 23:13Speaker 9: with his head down all of a sudden started throwing
- 23:15Speaker 9: the baseball a little fashion and everyone else and started,
- 23:18Speaker 9: you know, make a few free throws because I was
- 23:19Speaker 9: sitting there practicing five hundred of them every damn night.
- 23:22Speaker 9: And in high school, I look up in the stands,
- 23:25Speaker 9: my dad's.
- 23:25Speaker 4: Back up there, okay, and it's like, man, and then
- 23:28Speaker 4: he's bringing his friends and your captain of the team,
- 23:31Speaker 4: and you're like, geez, you know, and it just saved
- 23:34Speaker 4: me and it got me into college.
- 23:36Speaker 1: Oh, I'm so embarrassed. I know it's awful. And you know,
- 23:40Speaker 1: people are also, don't throw a basketball like this. Nice
- 23:43Speaker 1: is the wrong movement.
- 23:46Speaker 2: People are quoting the Steve Martin nineteen seventy nine film
- 23:50Speaker 2: The Jerk, which starts, I was born a poor black child.
- 23:53Speaker 1: Yes this is for context, by the way, this is
- 23:57Speaker 1: an NBA podcast that he's on. So doing something that
- 24:01Speaker 1: is somehow generously called code switching, but in this case,
- 24:04Speaker 1: it's just like action, like an idiot, because I just
- 24:06Speaker 1: want to read. All you need to know. All you
- 24:10Speaker 1: need to know is the name of his father is
- 24:12Speaker 1: William Alfred Newsom the Third. Okay he didn't. That's not
- 24:18Speaker 1: a poverty name, guys. Yeah, that's but the hard knocks
- 24:23Speaker 1: of the life of the son of William Alfred Newsom
- 24:27Speaker 1: the Third.
- 24:29Speaker 2: Is ever come on like eating wonder bread and mac
- 24:33Speaker 2: and cheese, which, by the way, I would have loved
- 24:35Speaker 2: to mac and cheese.
- 24:35Speaker 1: In my childhood.
- 24:36Speaker 2: It was always like no, Grandma will make you blah
- 24:39Speaker 2: blah blah.
- 24:40Speaker 1: He also says in this interview, again just changing no
- 24:43Speaker 1: matter what audience he's talking to. He says that the
- 24:46Speaker 1: anti woke message is obviously racism. Now he's spent the
- 24:50Speaker 1: last six months talking to conservatives or centrists or normies
- 24:55Speaker 1: about how the anti woke backlash is understandable because woke
- 24:59Speaker 1: was crazy.
- 25:01Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I mean Gavin Newsome a picture from his
- 25:07Speaker 2: yearbook surfaced where he won most Stylish and he's wearing
- 25:13Speaker 2: like what appears to be a Burberry scarf and you know,
- 25:16Speaker 2: an overcoat. Maybe, I mean, let's just tell let me
- 25:19Speaker 2: tell you this kid is not poor at home. Also,
- 25:23Speaker 2: that line, though about his dad only showed up when
- 25:26Speaker 2: he got good at sports.
- 25:27Speaker 1: I mean, crappy dads.
- 25:29Speaker 2: Can be at you know, at every income level. But
- 25:33Speaker 2: I don't quite buy that he was poor.
- 25:37Speaker 1: Yeah, No, it's just this is like, sure, I'm sure
- 25:40Speaker 1: he ate those things at times during his who didn't
- 25:43Speaker 1: eat those things?
- 25:44Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 25:45Speaker 1: The hard scrabbderbread and mac and cheese.
- 25:48Speaker 2: Yeah, it was the eighties. We all ate that if
- 25:50Speaker 2: we could. Again, I was told I couldn't even have that,
- 25:54Speaker 2: like it was.
- 25:56Speaker 1: He's something else, both both he and Zorn. You see
- 25:59Speaker 1: them just like sort of whatever needs to be said, yep,
- 26:03Speaker 1: get said. And uh that's not a it's not a
- 26:06Speaker 1: comforting trait. No, I hope people don't fall for it.
- 26:10Speaker 2: It's just they both have, you know, the gift of
- 26:13Speaker 2: gab a little bit, even though Gavin doesn't have it anywhere.
- 26:16Speaker 1: Near a Warzora.
- 26:17Speaker 2: I'm diagnosed, Like, especially if you watch Gavin Newsom talk,
- 26:21Speaker 2: his hand gestures are so ridiculous that it's like you're
- 26:24Speaker 2: not actually a real person.
- 26:25Speaker 1: I don't know what this is. Yeah, yeah, I don't
- 26:29Speaker 1: believe it. People.
- 26:29Speaker 2: No, No, Gavin Newsom in twenty eight pick someone else. Well,
