- 0:00Because Fuck You That's Why is a founding member of the Odd Pods Media Network.
- 0:04MM hello and welcome to a special episode of Because Fuck You That's Why.
- 0:42We are taking you center stage in front of the lights in the audience
- 0:48to enjoy the theater. And along those lines, we have a very special
- 0:56guest with us today is Kyla. Hi, Kyla Hi, Aaron. Fans
- 1:03of our show may remember Kyla from episode one hundred, the Taskmaster episode Yeah
- 1:08yeah, which definitely carved in. I made a fabrige aa. It was
- 1:14fantastic. You did better than meat actually brought something about so much fun.
- 1:22Yeah. So yeah. Stevie, one of our regular guest main captains,
- 1:29is out for the day fortunately, so now is the time when we all
- 1:33get to make fun of him. Yep, he's short, Yes, and
- 1:40it's so bald. Yeah, he says, I probably shouldn't make fun of
- 1:44him being bald. No, you have more hair than backfires att. Yeah,
- 1:48way more hair than I do. But that's because it grows out the
- 1:49sides. The best thing is to make fun of somebody for something that you're
- 1:53also guilty of. Yeah. Like my favorite thing to do watching my six
- 1:57hundred pound life going sad piece, whereas I am not a slim person.
- 2:05So you uh, no pancakes. No, I do enjoy the pancakes.
- 2:15We'll not turn those down or a banana upbread. As it turns out,
- 2:19I'm a waffle man. Where did we get off filtered so fast? Something
- 2:25about Steve? I don't know. We had invited Defined Monkey to join us
- 2:31as well as they're no strangers to the theater or improv, but instead of
- 2:38it yes or no, they gave me a maybe it is ten minutes passed
- 2:43when they were supposed to show. They might still show. I have no
- 2:46idea, so we're just gonna roll without them. If they do show,
- 2:51we'll just incorporated into the recording and we'll make new teams at that point.
- 2:54But for now, it is just one v one Kyla versus Augie. So
- 3:00I might as well get to our introductions, and I might as well start
- 3:04with our special guest, Kyla, how are you doing today? Doing so
- 3:07good? It's a beautiful Saturday. I got my skeleton T shirt on and
- 3:10I am ready to play very very cool. I know you're no stranger to
- 3:15the play. We've done some plays together. That's where we met in the
- 3:17mid nineties. Oh man, when Aaron had luscious curly hair, Steve didn't
- 3:27know. I don't think Steve ever had lush this hair. I think at
- 3:30best he had lushy hair, stringy hair. He's gonna love listening to this.
- 3:38Yeah. So I always ask a question to introduce our our players,
- 3:44and the question this week because it's a theater special, Kyla, what is
- 3:47your favorite play that you've ever either been in or seen. Well, that's
- 3:51got to be Cocy that I was in with Aaron and we were in a
- 3:54mental institution. We talked about it a lot. By a monkey. Those
- 3:59two uh Simmons were in with us as well, and one of them being
- 4:02an actor, one being director, and we had a great fun time.
- 4:05Yeah. You know, I like a lot of theater. I like to
- 4:10make fun of a lot of stuff. So I just saw a great show
- 4:14downtown U at Alleyway called Craig Tar, which was fantastic. That's probably my
- 4:19favorite one that I've seen recently. Craig Tar. It was a monster musical
- 4:25and it was so well done. It was so interesting and funny and relevant
- 4:30and current. Yeah, it was cool. Neat nice two answers. Yeah,
- 4:35Cosey is probably it's probably you know what, I'll skip straight to my
- 4:40answer. I think it's going to be cozy as well. It was our
- 4:42magnum opus. Yeah. I mean we were basically typecast because we were playing
- 4:46mental institution patients. Um, so the two of us were right at home,
- 4:53and it wasn't the part I wanted, but I definitely I wanted.
- 4:59I think i' wanted the snyde dude, the role Mike got okay, okay,
- 5:05uh, the combination you know, arrogant boyfriend who's probably cheating on the
- 5:12main characters girlfriend with and it was I don't know why I wanted that role.
- 5:16I just did for some reason. I think it was because it was
- 5:18against type maybe or I just wanted to try something different. But I got
- 5:21the quiet guy. I got the manic, pexie violent girl, which was
- 5:29kind of cool, and then I absolutely loved it was fun because you just
- 5:34had so much fun with it, and I was like, ah, jealous.
- 5:38Well the best was Andy at one point said be as loud and shrill
- 5:41as possible, and I said, that would hurt your ears. So I
- 5:45did my best. I did because I could hear my parents and my backgrounds.
- 5:48They are in my ears the whole time, Like, Kyle, you
- 5:51gotta not be so loud. But it was the one time when I could
- 5:55really just let it with go. Yeah, it was so funny. It
- 5:58was fun. I definitely had a lot of fun playing Henry once I once
- 6:02I fell in love with him. It took me a while, but I
- 6:04did eventually be like, I'm gonna have so much fun with this. Since
- 6:08I basically faded into the background for most everything, but I'm like, I
- 6:13gotta have fun with this. I came up with bits and all sorts of
- 6:17stuff and it was great. Yeah. So yeah, that's probably my favorite
- 6:21as well. Call good call. And now I turned my attention to the
- 6:26one person here who doesn't have a great amount of theater experience. Well,
- 6:30man, I had one, but I'm thinking this costly one. No.
- 6:35That my favorite is actually the first one I actually got to go see with
- 6:40my mother and my niece was we get to see Beauty and the Beast played
- 6:45live, and it was oh my god, it was so wonderfully done.
- 6:47I've seen a Beauty and the Beast played live a couple of times since then,
- 6:51it never as good as the first one. Yeah, I think it
- 6:56was just that cast. Something about that cast they made it work. Yeah,
- 6:59I think the production as a whole has a lot to do with it
- 7:01as well, you know, because if the director and like the tech people
- 7:05aren't vibing, then the actors aren't gonna get Yeah, and they definitely were.
- 7:09Like it was one of my best memories from it too, is I
- 7:14don't know how it was possible, but by niece during the crescendo of like
- 7:17b our guests, she was sleeping through it. They had basically like essentially
- 7:24not bottle rockets, but they had like pyrotechnics going off on stage. She
- 7:28stopped the whole thing, And how would you miss that? Maybe she was
- 7:31like circuit overload, Like she was like, she was younger than me.
- 7:36Well she is younger than me, but still yeah, yeah, it tends
- 7:40to stay younger than you were. Yeah right, she hasn't hadn't I trot
- 7:43me yet? She tries that works? Um, okay, So I'd say
- 7:48it's roughly about the time that we should get to the games. What does
- 7:51everybody say? Sure? All right, So, because this is a theater
- 7:55special, I have three theater themed games for you, and we are starting
- 8:01with one of my favorites game one is going to be getting errand. I
- 8:07am going to have a list of ten lists of three things, and one
- 8:11of them is probably going to be fake. In each list of three,
- 8:16you just have to give me the fake thing. If you're right, I'll
- 8:18give you a point. But there are going to be at least one time
- 8:24during the game during which all three answers are true. They're all real,
- 8:28none of them are fake. If you think that is the case, you
- 8:31tell me that you are being errand, and if you're right, I will
- 8:35give you two points. Obviously, if you're wrong on either the fake or
- 8:39being errand, you get nothing, and the player who has the most points
- 8:41at the end of the round win the game and earn one episode point.
- 8:48So let me pull up the lists and we will get started. Here.
- 8:54There's ten of them, and you're each going to guess on each one,
- 8:56but I'll just switch the order in which you guess each time, and let's
- 9:01start with list number one. So the list of these things are. What
- 9:07you have to tell me is which of the three plays I'm about to name
- 9:11cannot be found in Concord Theatrical UH formerly known as Samuel French. Their catalog
- 9:22of plays and if you successfully find the fake, you'll earn one point.
- 9:24And again if you guess that you're being errand and you're right, you're in
- 9:28two points instead. So the first list a bad day at Gopher's breath,
- 9:33a gorgeous day on math, or a fate worse than death colon or a
- 9:39drift on Life's see. I think the math fa okay, okay, I
- 9:52think they're all real. You think you're being errand right out the well.
- 9:58It seems like an errand thing to do. It does seem like an errand
- 10:01thing to do, but not a Stevie thing to do. That is going
- 10:03to be a point for Kyla, because the fake one was indeed. A
- 10:07gorgeous day on meth just seemed too simple? Was it just seems so real?
- 10:16Or so fa so weird? It had to be really well. Cobra's
- 10:18breath could be like, you know, halitosis, that's okay? Are you
- 10:22plenty of time to catch up? This time? You're gonna give me your
- 10:24answer first. Here's list number two. Beautiful Beu La Belle or Virtue's Various
- 10:31Vicissitudes. That's one play Blue Wizard slash Black Wizards, or third play blue
- 10:41Beard Oh, which one of these is fake? Or are you being errand?
- 10:48What do you think of? Oh my god, what do you think
- 10:50these plays? I mean, aside from blue Beard, you can probably guess
- 10:54what that play would be about. Yeah, but I have questions about the
- 10:56other two. Yeah, like like blue Blue Wizard, Black Wi Blue Wizard,
- 11:03Black Wizard, one fish to fish, Redfish, blue Fish. Um,
- 11:11yeah, that's gonna be like a wizard's take. I like, I
- 11:16don't know. I don't know, man, Oh, I know, it's
- 11:18like Spider Man turn Off the Dark or some shit. Let's see here.
- 11:24I think I think the first one is fake? You think Beautiful Beulah Belle
- 11:30or Virtues Various Vicissitudes is fake? Yeah? I think that's just too much
- 11:33of a mouthful for people to care. Fair enough, Kyla, what do
- 11:37you think? I'm leaning towards being errand, But I'm also I think I'm
- 11:41gonna go with my gut and choose the second option again, Blue Wizard,
- 11:46Black Wizard. Yeah, that just seems like I mean, yeah, yeah,
- 11:52it does sound fun, but unfortunately it's real. But so is the
- 11:56first one and the third one. You were being errand, These are all
- 12:00real. You just left two points. Oh well, oh well, there
- 12:05will be more opportunities. Here is list number three, Kylie, you're gonna
- 12:09go first this time. Brother Truckers, Curse you Jack Dalton or Devil Girls
- 12:16from Georgia. Brother Truckers curse you Jack Dalton or Devil Girls from Georgia.
- 12:24Which one of these is fake? Or are you being errand yet again?
- 12:28You go Brother Truckers, Brother Truckers, Auggie. They all sound like country
- 12:31songs. Yeah, um, what was the second one? Curse you Jack
- 12:41Dalton. Oh that's gotta be real. Yeah, it's gonna be the first
- 12:46one. Then you're also going with brother Truckers. Yeah, the fake one
- 12:50this time around was Devil Girls from Georgia. But Brother Truckers is real,
- 12:58as is curse you Jack Dalton. But you both thought that was real.
- 13:00Yeah, all right, new points to anybody. Here is list number four.
- 13:05Die Hitler, die doctor death, or don't dress for dinner. Yeah,
- 13:15I'll gue you for first this time. Shit not one of the choices,
- 13:22dan one, Yeah, yeah that's what she said. I knew somebody
- 13:30was gonna go for it. I wish I had a button for that.
- 13:33Anyways, man, they all sound real. I think we're being errand this
- 13:39time? Do you think you're being errand? Yeah? Okay, very possible,
- 13:41Kylo, what do you think I'll go with we're being errand? They
- 13:43said, oh, thank you, they're all real. Die Hitler, Die
- 13:46is fake. No, I made that up. Hey, I know what
- 13:50my next play is gonna be. Yeah. I feel good that you both
- 13:54thought that was real. So thank you for making who as I'm the one
- 13:58who's torturing the both of you. So Kyle is still in the lead,
- 14:03but only one point in the entire game at this point. Here's list number
- 14:07five, Kylie Ego first caught in the villain's web or more sinned against than
- 14:13sinning my fashion disaster or glamor rama ding dong? Egad, what a cad
- 14:20or virtue triumphs over villainy? I'll go with the third one, you think,
- 14:26egad, what a cad or virtue triumphs over villainess? Spake well a
- 14:31subtitle place, Yeah, yeah, yeah, big time subtitles, Aggie.
- 14:35What do you think? I think it's a second one? My fashion disaster
- 14:37or glamor rama ding dong? Yeah, like this ain't grace motherfucker. Well,
- 14:46I am pleased to inform you that agi you tied the game. It
- 14:50was my fashion disaster or glamor Rama ding dong? I made that up?
- 14:54How I mean? The other two were so insane I felt like I could
- 14:58have gotten away with anything. Um but yeah, just I don't know where
- 15:05that came from. Really proud of it. Okay, so it's all tied
- 15:09up one point a piece, still half the game to go, So go
- 15:11any which way? Here is list number six, Lady Audley's Secret, Lord
- 15:18or Arthur Saville's Crime or Lady Remington's Power, and Aggie, you're gonna go
- 15:26first this time? What do you think? What was the first one again?
- 15:31Lady Audley's Secret a U D l E. Yes, that's what I
- 15:37That's what I suspected it was spelled to. Wow, this actually seems like
- 15:41they would be real as well. Yeah, I think I think they're all
- 15:46real. They were being Aaron. You think you're being Aaron? Yeah?
- 15:48Kyla, what do you think I want to go? What was the middle
- 15:54one again? Lord Arthur Saville's Crime? See that sounds like something you'd make
- 15:58up. Do you think that's fake? Yeah? Okay, it's just English
- 16:03enough for something to be something you'd make up. Yeah, And I am
- 16:06a big anglophile, but in this case, nobody gets a point. The
- 16:10fake one was Lady Remington's power Man. That was believable, super reliable.
- 16:17Thank you for the compliment. Than this one should be fun and Kylie,
- 16:22you'll go first this time my big gay Italian graduation, my big gay Italian
- 16:29wedding, or my big gay Italian funeral? Wow? Which one of these
- 16:36is fake? Or are they all real? Being Italian American, we celebrate
- 16:41a lot of happy things. But yeah, we don't like no, but
- 16:48we do have a lot of fun at funerals making fun of everything that's true.
- 16:57Let's go, Let's go to the funerals. Let's go to funerals.
- 17:00Do you think my big gay Italian funeral is fake, Aggie, because I
- 17:04know the other one has to be real. Yeah, at least two of
- 17:07these are real. Yeah, at least two of them. Yeah, at
- 17:11least two. So there is some kind of franchise going, right, it's
- 17:18gonna be the funeral. You also go with the uh, the fake one
- 17:22in this list is my big gay Italian graduation. Yeah, that was because
- 17:26like, how do you make a play about your own death? I now
- 17:30I have to see this I don't. Yeah, I wonder if it's not
- 17:33that person's funeral, Like they didn't die, they just went through it.
- 17:37Who knows. Yeah, Wedday everybody's heard about. Oh yeah, yeah,
- 17:41it was probably the first one in the series. Oh yes. Anyway,
- 17:45onto list number eight, Aggie, you will go first this time a classroom
- 17:49in Quantico, Psycho beach party or ten nights in a bar room. Fuck,
- 18:00he's gotta be the second one. Psycho beach Party. Yeah, okay,
- 18:03yeah, I'm gonna go to the same. You also think psych Yeah?
- 18:07I think the others two I think are too plausible. See uh,
- 18:10like this is I didn't know it as a play. I knew of Psycho
- 18:14Beach Party as a movie, but it is a play, the fake one.
- 18:18Here was a classroom in Quantico. Why does itself familiar? Maybe it
- 18:22was a Psycho Beach Party is an absolutely insane movie that the stars, among
- 18:29other people, Nicholas Brendan from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. He's in that movie.
- 18:33It's weird, it's super weird. But a friend of mine from college
- 18:37absolutely loved it and insisted I watch it, and I did so. I
- 18:41imagine the play is just as crazy in any event aren't better? Who knows?
- 18:45There's no point for anyone. There are two lists left, and it's
- 18:48tied up. Anybody could take it with list number nine. Kylie, you
- 18:52will go first, the Confession of Lily Dare, the English Only Restaurant,
- 19:00or the Great Sebastians. Are any of these fake? Or are you being
- 19:06errand? Let's go with the Confession. Let's say the Confession of Lily Dare
- 19:11is fake? All right, Ague, what do you think? I think
- 19:12I'm getting errand here? You think you're getting errand? And you are getting
- 19:18errand? They're all real. Aggie has put it out of contention. But
- 19:22we will play the last list anyway, because these are too much fun.
- 19:26Aggie, you'll go first, The Great Western Melodrama, The Scheme of the
- 19:32Driftless Shifter, or the Scion of Downtown Hoboken. Which one of these is
- 19:38fake? Or do you think you're being errand? Again? I think it's
- 19:41Scion. Do you think it's the Scion of Downtown Hoboken? Kylo? What
- 19:45do you think? I think it's the second one, The Scheme of the
- 19:48Driftless Shifter. Yeah, it just seems too properating. Well, regardless of
- 19:53how burparty, but it is actually real. The fake one is the scion
- 19:57of WHOA last two hours. He comes out of nowhere, move over,
- 20:04Anthony Chase. He's going to be reviewing the place. What is happening?
- 20:08Am I like absorbing your knowledge? I'm an anti ringer. I came in
- 20:12to make it when Steve's not here. I'm actually good. I think I
- 20:18think he might just be more used to my bullshit than you are. In
- 20:22any event. With four points to one, Aggie has taken the game and
- 20:26gets one episode point. He's in the league. Wow, But there is
- 20:33a lot more fun left to have. There are more games to play.
- 20:36Kyla can easily pick it up. The next game is worth two episode points
- 20:38and we'll be back to play it right after this. Hey. I'm Lauren
- 20:56and I'm John and we host the Beard Doll Podcast, the podcast where we
- 20:59talk about two of the greatest things in the world, beer and weird al
- 21:03and a lot of other things. We're funny. Yeah, that's basically what
- 21:07I told him to say. Good job, listen, yay, but no,
- 21:12seriously, we try a pair of beer weird al song and talk about
- 21:18both things and go where the conversation takes us. It's fun. I promise
- 21:22you'll like it. Yeah, I mean if you like talking about random things
- 21:27as well as you know, fine craft beers and some wonderful craft music.
- 21:44Hey man, welcome back. It's time for game two. This game is
- 21:47going to be pitched me baby, one more time. I'm gonna give our
- 21:49players control of a pop culture property or a special circumstance or both, and
- 21:56ask them to deliver a pitch based on that request. The best pitch wins
- 22:00the game and earns two episode points for a theater episode. We've got all
- 22:06sorts of amazing productions based on other media. Now there's a Pokemon musical.
- 22:11To my amazement, there's not one, but two dangan Rompa stage plays.
- 22:15There's even a Back to the Future musical on Broadway right now. And I'm
- 22:22so jealous of all the money that these are making. So I want you
- 22:26to pitch me any pop culture property that would transition well to a stage play
- 22:33or musical that has not already been produced. The best pitch wins, Kyles.
- 22:38Since you lost the last game, you have the choice. Would you
- 22:41like to go first or second? I'll go first, okay, because I
- 22:44got one in my head and this is one now and loadus. Yeah,
- 22:48friends of mine in a ballet class. We started writing many years ago and
- 22:52it was Roadhouse the musical. Oh my god, when Ghost came to town
- 22:56as a musical, we were thinking of other celebrated Patrick sweezy things. Yeah.
- 23:02Um, we really wanted to have a musical with the guy's throat being
- 23:06ripped out, and because that was the starting point. Yeah, and like
- 23:11lots of martial arts us with throats being ripped out. Yeah, martial arts
- 23:15dance sequences like really awkward stripped tease girl that's just like no one likes her.
- 23:23And then like the smart girl because she wears flats, you know,
- 23:29like she looks like she's in a shampoo commercial. She's wholesome, but like,
- 23:36um, and and also like the vibe of the house at the end
- 23:40or okay, are you dying? Okay, So the vibe of the house
- 23:42at the end where like the final battle comes. I don't know how familiar
- 23:47guys are with Roadhouse, but I mean Roadhouse, Yeah, I know of
- 23:52it. I know how it plays out. So there's this have not seen
- 23:55the whole thing. There's a scene at the end where they're in this rich
- 23:56guy's house and they're basically battling him, and that would have like kind of
- 24:00like a like a mouse trap feel like with the like you know, lots
- 24:04of secret doors and things in that and there's all these stuffed animals because the
- 24:08guy's a hunter and maybe like using them as weapons and whatnot. So,
- 24:12um, my actual pitch would be, Hey, remember the eighties, Remember
- 24:18going to bars? Remember violence, Let's set it to some music. I
- 24:23miss all three of those things. Yeah, remember beer getting poured on people
- 24:29bars with peanut peanut shells on the floor. Let's make a music of a
- 24:33roadhouse. I mean, it's a celebrated eighties property. It's probably already been
- 24:37in the works. I don't know. If not, it should be.
- 24:40I think that's a brilliant pitch. Yeah, roadhouse, the music's coming in
- 24:45from the city to bust up. It's nobody's gonna put on a stop breaking
- 24:52chairs. We're running out of chairs. No more chairs a glass stallone are
- 25:00a million dollars. Yeah, sorry, oh my god, it's fantastic,
- 25:10man, but it is cheating. Sorry, you got an uphill battle here,
- 25:14but oh don't. If anyone can do it, it's not you,
- 25:18I know, and don't worry, give me your best pitch. Anyway,
- 25:22what do you got? You gotta have something good. Well, here's the
- 25:25thing, Aaron about that uphill battle. The thing is, it's only an
- 25:29uphill battle. If I'm going uphill, I'm going the other way because,
- 25:33in difficult me fashion, I didn't understand the mission and therefore I did my
- 25:42own thing. And I don't know if this counts, but I was going
- 25:47to pitch a musical about Stevie. Okay, okay, it would be about
- 25:55you know what, I will allow it. I mean, I don't know
- 25:57that our show is popular enough to qualifies pop culture, but yet, but
- 26:03CV is a like like an f G grade celebrity. I guess, to
- 26:10the point where some very specific people recognize him on the street and we go
- 26:15to New Jersey. He's a mythical creature. He's more asked for, like
- 26:18satisfactory. He passed and asked grade celebrity, you only need a sixty five
- 26:29to pass. Okay, So but yeah, but um yeah, I kind
- 26:34of had some ideas. I have a few of the songs already thought out.
- 26:38Okay, I'm going to be about his life, so like we'll start
- 26:41off like early off in his life, like, you know, um,
- 26:45my eyes are blue, my hair is blond. It used to be long,
- 26:48but now it's gone genetic, you know, something like that. Or
- 26:52later on in his life when he started getting you know, enlisted all stuff
- 26:57like that, he's like, I've got Sam did my ass crab hanging out
- 27:02here and old I req um, you know, and wow and then uh
- 27:11and then finally like towards the end, like starts, you know, start
- 27:14to see like where he is kind of thing like once was a technicky Nichols
- 27:17and dimes. Our podcast are getting high all the time with a distinctive giggle
- 27:21that cures all well with Stevie's Stevie, what a weird asshole? Okay,
- 27:26I think you just wow. You know, it's maybe change up the beat
- 27:30a little bit. I had something else on mine for the last one,
- 27:36but I can't remember it for the life of me. I mean, basically,
- 27:38based on how you started your pitch, I genuinely thought you didn't have
- 27:41a chance. Uh, but failing upwards all the time. No, I
- 27:48mean that's so good, but Roadhouse was better. Give it to Kyla.
- 27:52Yeah. Yeah. As much as I love the idea of a Steevie musical.
- 27:57I am around that asshole all the time. At least Roadhouse would be
- 28:04something too right, a cleanser, if you will. But the idea was
- 28:10clever, the songs were great. Just oh, that's a fantastic pitch,
- 28:15Hoggie, Kyla had just come, you know, just give me a middle
- 28:19of the road pitch, you would have won. But her pitch was fantastic.
- 28:22So that's what. Nothing to be ashamed of. Whatsoever. Kyler wins,
- 28:27the game gets two points, two episode points to one. Good news.
- 28:34We're not gonna end in tie, so someone's gonna win when we play
- 28:38game three. Game three is we're three episode points and it will decide the
- 28:44winner when we come back right after this. I'm Richie aka Midnight Agent Raw.
- 28:56I'm Devin aka Special Delivery Day of We're the Supermedia Bros. Podcast and

- 29:33You know what, guys, I don't think Indian Karen are gonna make it.
- 29:37That's okay. I just got a weird feeling their spirits are here.
- 29:41It ain't over till it's over. Oh how great would it be? Oh
- 29:45my gosh. As soon as we emerge from the for the comedian gods,
- 29:52my mama make it literally right after I say, I don't think we're gonna
- 29:56make it anyway, We're gonna play game three. This one, this for
- 30:00all the marbles in Game three is going to be dumpster Fire. She's an
- 30:03old favorite of ours. I'm going to give our players a topic and they'll
- 30:07have to pick something about that topic that they would like to see removed from
- 30:11society or ever. The one I agree with most, the one I most
- 30:15want to throw into a dumpster fire, will win the point, and the
- 30:19first team to get through. The first player to get three points wins the
- 30:22game and earns three episode points and wins the episode. So we're going to
- 30:29start with topic number one. And given that this is a theater based episode,
- 30:33our first topic is going to be theaters, the actual buildings themselves.
- 30:37What about theaters would you like to see thrown into a dumpster fire? And
- 30:41August, since you lost the last game. I'll give you the choice.
- 30:44Do you want to go first or second? I'll go first, okay,
- 30:45and we'll alternate as we go about. All right, So, Augie,
- 30:48what about theaters would you like to throw into a dumpster fire? You know
- 30:53I do well, I once did quite enjoy the old style like a theater.
- 31:00How they trying to keep it old and all that stuff, But oftentimes
- 31:03I feel like they should probably update a lot of it, like maybe because
- 31:08how often do you have like safety issues stuff like that, And like how
- 31:14I honestly, not having a theater background, wouldn't know how much that would
- 31:17factor. And to have like compromise for old looking stuff but still need to
- 31:22like, you know, be safe on the stage kind of thing. So
- 31:29let's update update to cosmetic modern updates. Yeah, you know, I just
- 31:34want to make sure I understand. You want to throw modern updates into the
- 31:37dumpster fire. So you want the old, old, non recit, Yes,
- 31:45you want decaying theaters too. My brain is decrepit theaters, theaters that
- 31:49have not been updated you think should be thrown in the dumpsters. Yes,
- 31:52okay, now I get where you're coming from. Cool. Yeah, that's
- 31:56what I was trying to say, can you beat that? Is there something
- 32:00about theaters that you wish was removed from society forever? I just had something
- 32:05and now it's gone. Give me one second here. Well, I was
- 32:13going to say parking, because it seems like parking is always an issue,
- 32:15but oh yeah, oh no everything theaters are always like located like downtown r
- 32:21right, yeah, parking is impossible, right or it costs an ar mental
- 32:24leg. But I remember what I was going to say, um, really
- 32:28tired of people and whole theaters have been based on this that I've performed,
- 32:32and even uh the whole like there's ghosts in the theater, haunted who everywhere's
- 32:38haunted? Everywhere stuff has happened, Like yeah, like stop making that your
- 32:45whole personality like it is what it is, like everywhere's haunted, you know,
- 32:51and if there's ghosts there, you should just tell them, like hey,
- 32:52dude, ghosts, I respect you. You know your dad, move
- 32:55on, you know, you shouldn't be like stay here and on us like
- 33:00like that. That's just yeah, Like I don't know. I tend to
- 33:06think of ghosts as like um as being like tortured souls who like aren't are
- 33:10trapped and who need to like move on to the next realm, wherever it
- 33:14may be. And it just always makes me sad, where like when I
- 33:16see like ghost hunters who are like never leave, like no no ghosts and
- 33:22ghost hunting dumpsters. Okay, Um, so I rarely have like an instant
- 33:31win answer. That's something that would instantly give you the game. Uh And
- 33:36as far as I know, no one's ever actually hit on it, but
- 33:37Aggie actually kind of got close. UMT. My instant win answer for theaters
- 33:44would have been uncomfortable chairs. Oh yeah, oh yeah, but modern updates
- 33:49to theaters actually would help with that. Oh yeah, definitely, like they
- 33:52do it. Yeah, I think I'm gonna go with Aggie on this one.
- 33:57I think I would like theaters without modern updates. I support it to
- 34:00be thrown into the dumpster fire. We'll give Abbie the first point, but
- 34:02that's okay. There's plenty of game left. You can easily make it up,
- 34:07especially with this next category, which I think all you might struggle with.
- 34:10The topic for our next discussion is Shakespeare. So, Kyla, is
- 34:15there something about Shakespeare that you would like to see thrown into a dumpster fire.
- 34:21I really don't like when Shakespeare is a mishmash. It's performed as a
- 34:27mishmash of traditional and modern. So like they update the language, but they
- 34:31keep the old clothes, or they update the clothes but they use the old
- 34:35language. It's like, just do it all modern or all not, Like
- 34:37I don't like the combo, and you know, it is what it is.
- 34:44Just do it the way it's written. I don't know, I'm a
- 34:46fan. I was in a playrate reading Society. Actually, Aaron, you
- 34:51did a couple plays with us there, and really, you know, the
- 34:54words on the page speak for themselves, you know, just just let it
- 34:58lie, let it play, and if if you don't like it, writes
- 35:00something better or not even better, just different, you know. And yeah,
- 35:02um, so I don't. I don't like um Frankenstein together modern and
- 35:07non traditional or traditional and non traditional, that kind of a thing. Okay,
- 35:13Aggie, is there something about Shakespeare that you think should be thrown into
- 35:16a dumpster fire? Holy shit? Like that was a good answer, really
- 35:22a good answer. Oh yeah, Shakespeare. Uh, he was the to
- 35:30be or not to be guy? Right, Yeah, he wrote that the
- 35:34whole thing. Yeah, I kind of wish I under no because that sounds
- 35:39you know what. No, I'm going to be I'm going to be that
- 35:42guy. I find him derivative. I mean you wait a minute, you
- 35:46find Shakespeare derivative of who Christopher Marlowe? Yeah, the people he stole his
- 35:55place from. Okay, well, a lot of his stuff was based on
- 35:59his and legends of the time. There are only two that weren't, like,
- 36:02based on stuff that was common parlance in society. So you know that's
- 36:07true derivative, that is valid. I didn't have an instant win on this
- 36:13one, so I was just looking forward to see what you had to say.
- 36:15But of the two of you, I think it's quite clear that Kyla
- 36:17had the better answer. Absolutely. Yeah. A few things annoy me more
- 36:22than an inconsistent tone. Yeah. Um, Like I actually don't mind when
- 36:28they leave the language alone, but they but they update the Like the clothes
- 36:32like I think I saw, I think I saw performance might have been Shakespeare
- 36:37in the Parking, might not of one of the plays. I'm not sure
- 36:38which one it was. But they all wore like business suits, yeah,
- 36:44ties, and you know, and I got that, and like the decor
- 36:47was very like modern business office um um, but you know it still spoke
- 36:52to the same kind of power struggle that was going on in the play.
- 36:57So I didn't actually mind that they kept the language. But I have also
- 37:00seen productions where they just kind of half asset and I can't stand that.
- 37:07You can't stand it at also too much potential for garbage point. It easily
- 37:10goes to Kayla and yeah, that's it's all tied up one point piece to
- 37:15be or whatever. You will go first on this next topic, and this
- 37:21time I would like to hear your thoughts on the audience at a theater show.
- 37:27What about the audience would you like to see thrown into a dumpster?
- 37:31Our audience, not our audience, No, no, no, But if
- 37:35you're at a theater, the people around you, the audience at a play
- 37:39or a music the disrespect of just throwing your shit on the floor, like
- 37:45you know, they have trash bins a like ready for you at the end
- 37:49of this play. You just have to put it in there. You don't
- 37:51have to just not come and clean it up anyways and just drop everything everywhere,
- 37:55playbooks like any and they were rappers, popcorn, yeah, any wine
- 38:04or drinks that they might have been having while watching the play. Yeah,
- 38:07I get why you might say that, um So, that's pretty good,
- 38:13Kyla. Can you beat that? Um Well, it's really something that that
- 38:16has always bothered me. Where you're at a musical or even a play and
- 38:21somebody like wishes they were up on stage, so they're singing louder than the
- 38:24people on the stage, or they're like like acting along with the like you
- 38:30know, I've been to plays like that where I want to elbow the person
- 38:36next to me and be like, I'm paying for them, not you.
- 38:38So I don't like it when people are like trying to take the spotlight off
- 38:42the stage. It's like, you're here to watch and be quiet and respectful.
- 38:46I was actually um I when I was young. I was freshman in
- 38:51high school. I got hackled on stage once during an actual play at our
- 38:54little teeny tiny theater, and you know, everybody was like you took out
- 39:00like a tramp. I'm like, I'm so gaff I could bear it.
- 39:01I just heard that there was a raucus, you know, but um and
- 39:07I was in the zone, and you know, it's like you're really gonna
- 39:09hackle thirteen year old fourteen year old girl? But whatever it was during a
- 39:15monologue, Oh my god. Uh wow. Yeah, um so, I
- 39:21don't know if you could tell our our listeners definitely couldn't tell. But during
- 39:27Kyla's explanation, my eyes popped open wide. Yeah I have. It's incredibly
- 39:34fucked up. Um so. I I have never experienced that myself, Like
- 39:38I've never been in a play when someone's done that, um, but I've
- 39:43been in the audience when someone's done that sort of. It's just uncomfortable.
- 39:46Um. I think the worst, the worst ever was someone had their phone,
- 39:52uh and it rang, but they just let it ring, like they
- 39:59just sat there or like it'll just get like like it's just constantly range.
- 40:05The poor people on stage are trying to carry one. But very quickly,
- 40:10like the whole audience started turning on this person, and eventually, like someone
- 40:17got off and walked over to the person whose phone it was and was like
- 40:21you do something about that, police, and they finally, you know,
- 40:23took their phone out and shut it off. And the whole thing could have
- 40:28been avoided if you'd listened to the fucking announce a start of the play and
- 40:31then the person like allows times, oh I don't know how to use my
- 40:35phone. I'm like then don't leave the house. Then you shouldn't be out
- 40:39right. You should be in a home. You should be cared for by
- 40:43handlers. But yeah, that one knows how to use a phone, that
- 40:50one has to go to Kyla unwelcome audience interactions A thousand person Oh man,
- 40:57Yeah, and littering is bad. It's terrible, But I will admit I've
- 41:00done it myself, and I don't feel particularly good about I don't feel good
- 41:06about it. I know it was dumb to do it when I did it,
- 41:07but I just still did it and I'm guilty of it. So just
- 41:10to protect myself, I have to go with Kyle, I think. But
- 41:14it was also a better answer. So Kyle's got two topers, she just
- 41:16needs one more, Aggy, you need to get both of these. But
- 41:21Kyla is going to go first on topic number four, which is auditioning.
- 41:25Um. Personally speaking, it's when there's a long wait to audition. I
- 41:30have lost my nerves so many times. Really. Oh yeah, like I'm
- 41:35I'm terrible about keeping my nerve. But more so than that, and this
- 41:38is this is kind of cheating because it's kind of a double answer. When
- 41:42you go to audition for something and it's meaningless because they already have it all,
- 41:46like you know, pre cast in their hand yea. So it's like,
- 41:50why put all these people through an audition when you know who you're gonna
- 41:53you're gonna hire, or you know who you're gonna cast. And so many
- 41:57theaters in our area use the same people for the same stiff and I understand
- 42:02like ensembles, but you need to mix it up more. And people playing
- 42:07against type and playing against character is one of my favorite things to see.
- 42:12And you really, I mean there's no way to even your spouse, like
- 42:15even your mom, even somebody there you could be tapping into something that you
- 42:20don't know about them. Let them shine, let them, you know,
- 42:23come in with an open mind and see what they can do with the material.
- 42:25So um, being more open minded, not precasting things and not putting
- 42:30people through the ringer of sitting there waiting for an audition and freaking out and
- 42:35having asked sweat when you know that you're just gonna hire the same person who
- 42:39did the same role you know, six months ago. Yeah, so as
- 42:43sweat. Okay, Yeah that's fair, Um okay, Aggie, and you
- 42:49need this one. Fuck. I was gonna make myself look like an ass
- 42:51and look like even more of an ass. Man, I'm gonna be like,
- 42:57you know what, this is the one thing I'll throw. I want
- 43:00to dumpster fire. There's this little thing I guess that you have to have
- 43:04called experience, and and like, come on, I'll give me a shot.
- 43:09You don't know it's true though, it's true, like maybe there's something
- 43:14in you that nobody has seen before that that you're going to grab onto and
- 43:16go rap. So I genuinely because I've never auditioned for anything, so I
- 43:21have nosoever. Yeah, I was afraid that my name. Yeah, I've
- 43:28been to job interviews, but that's different than auditioning for a play kind of
- 43:32kind of is first dates, job interviews, auditions all the same thing.
- 43:38Yeah. So so your answer, the one that you're going with to try
- 43:44to win the points is, is that you have no experience. Yes,
- 43:51that is my final answer. All right, well I've got zero experience.
- 43:57By virtue of his waving the white flag, I think, Kylie, you've
- 43:59won the one. Yeah. I don't know if I have an answer for
- 44:06this one. Really, the thing I was hoping nobody would say would be
- 44:10cold reads, because I absolutely love cold reads. I do too, Yeah,
- 44:21benefit and for anyone listening, he doesn't know what I'm talking about.
- 44:22Um. There are a couple of different kinds of auditions you can get.
- 44:25Um. I don't know if you'd call them hot or warm reads, but
- 44:29it would be basically when you get the script beforehand and you could read it
- 44:32and study it and come up with your own interpretation. Whatnot. Cold reading
- 44:37is when you don't see the script until you're there in front of the director
- 44:39and it's time to do just do it, and you have to just do
- 44:43it pretty much off the top of your head, having just seen the character,
- 44:45having just seen the words. Maybe you get a minute or so to
- 44:49look it over, but aside from it, you're pretty much just improving on
- 44:52the spot. Um. And I far prefer that. I feel like I'm
- 44:55way better at cold read auditions than I am at Like I like an audition
- 45:00where I have the script and I'm preparing ahead of time, I feel always
- 45:04goes worse. Yeah, because I'm not going with my first instinct. I'm
- 45:07overthinking it and I'm making it worse, know what i mean. Put the
- 45:12ADHD in the driver's seat and what happens? Yeah, yeah, this dude,
- 45:17Let let the Jesus take the wheel. I'm on my way, you
- 45:21know, I'm just gonna go wherever my mind takes me, and off I
- 45:22go, and I just I just enjoyed that way more so. Yeah,
- 45:27cold reads would have been a bad answer, but nobody gave it. So,
- 45:30but of the two of you, has clearly got the better choice here.
- 45:35I sweat far worse. Yeah. It's not what you know, it's
- 45:37who you know out there. Yeah, there's a lot of that. You
- 45:42could have said that too, Yeah, I mean no experience. Yeah yeah,
- 45:45no, um yeah, so that is three topics, which means Kyla
- 45:51has won the game, has got three more points, and wins the episode
- 45:54five to one. Five to one. I didn't know it was a crushing
- 46:00It wasn't a clean sweep. At least you took the first game. I
- 46:02mean true, yeah, true, you've never heard of you. Just recognize
- 46:07my bullshit a little bit better. Yeah, I just know you. Since
- 46:12we didn't get to do the anything's up for grabs. I want to take
- 46:15a shot at is there something ague that you also want to throw in the
- 46:20dumpster fire about theater? Yeah, that's a good question. As a consumer
- 46:24m as someone who's been to see plays and musicals, something that it just
- 46:31irritates you about it. Is it having to see my ass and everything because
- 46:37Stevie inevitably drags you. Yeah, I mean, I can't remember if you
- 46:44came to the last one I did. I don't think I did. I
- 46:46don't think I did. It was a radio play of It's a Wonderful Life.
- 46:52Oh yeah, I wanted to. You didn't go either? Well it
- 46:57wasn't that good. I no, I did enjoy it. It was with
- 47:01the fellow contributor of the show, Sarah played the my love interest in that
- 47:07one. It was pretty good. Yeah, you know, actually I do
- 47:09have one. You do have one? Yeah. I would honestly totally get
- 47:15rid of the performing in the audience, like have the performers in the audience
- 47:21audience interactions? Yeah, just because if you're like in the nosebleeds, you
- 47:27ain't no one. You're not interacting with anything, and too you're not seeing
- 47:30anything, you know, So like even if you're down there, if you're
- 47:34not ill seats, what are you seeing besides a dozen heads between you and
- 47:38the action or what's going on? Um? I was in a stage play
- 47:43of Night of the Living Dead many years ago, and we walked through the
- 47:45audience and I have a couple of friends who are so scared. And my
- 47:53one of my best friends in general, she was there with her you know,
- 47:57newly wed her and her husband, and she was like, a basic
- 48:00so scary. I'm like, yeah, yeah, so, like it's not
- 48:06Sweetheart's theater. Nobody's gonna hurt you. And I'm like, but it's me.
- 48:09I just have paint tis. She's so scary. But yeah, I
- 48:16mean some things it's hard, like especially um, like if you go see
- 48:20the Lion King. Yeah, a lot of times they want they they you
- 48:22know, dance up the aisles. But if you're in the nosebleeds, you're
- 48:27You're like, I'm missing out. It's it really makes it others people's Yeah,
- 48:32so I get that. And oftentimes the nosebleeds are only for those who
- 48:36can afford only afford so much cheaper ticket and all that. So it really
- 48:39makes those who are more wealthy to be able to experience theater and am more
- 48:45you know, into it. Yeah, don't um the people up in the
- 48:51balcony sometimes they'll get to see more of like the formation of like the performers.
- 48:57They can they can you know, step back and have like a why
- 49:00or perspective of it, so you could even look at it that way.
- 49:01But like, I'm always going to choose the cheap tickets. So yeah,
- 49:07I think I tend to prefer being a pie rather than down in front because
- 49:13I always feel like the action is happening and I'm like craning my neck.
- 49:15Sea we were like rowing gamphitheaters, like all about looking down on the performance.
- 49:22Yea, A large percentage should do that more instead of just what we
- 49:25have now in the one sided of you just three to sixty. Well,
- 49:30Kyles, since you asked, is there something in general about theaters or about
- 49:35theater in general that you would throw into a dumpster fire if you had the
- 49:37opportunity to do the wild Card one? Um, just really shake it up,
- 49:42like stop doing the same stuff all the time, get weird, get
- 49:46experimental. I'm all about, you know, having my face blown off.
- 49:52I as an actress or as an audiences not as an audience member. I
- 49:59love and to see something where I'm like, I have no idea what this
- 50:01is going to be like and I come out and I'm like, WHOA that
- 50:05was I might die today. Yeah. Yeah, I've seen some crazy things
- 50:08in my in my theater consumption career here, and I love that. I
- 50:13love it when it's super weird. There's nothing wrong with you know. I'm
- 50:16a Fantashakespeare. I'm a fan of traditional theater. But when you only do
- 50:22the stale stuff and you do the same type of stuff all the time,
- 50:24it's very boring. And I know that that's what makes money, but like,
