- 0:18days a year. We hope you enjoy this message. A man returned to
- 0:28the United States after a trip abroad. Feeling very ill. He goes to
- 0:34see his doctor and is immediately rushed to the hospital to undergo a barrage of
- 0:39extensive tests. He is negative for covid, ebola, malaria, and pretty
- 0:46much all the recognizable infectious diseases. The man wakes up after the tests in
- 0:52a private room at a hospital and the phone by his bed rings. This
- 0:58is your doctor. We've got the results back from your battery of tests,
- 1:03and we found that you have an extremely nasty and rare virus that is highly
- 1:07contagious and is frequently fatal. Oh my gosh, cries the man. He's
- 1:14in a panic. Now what are we going to do, doctor, Well,
- 1:19we're going to put you on a diet of pizzas, pancakes, and
- 1:23casadas. Will that cure me? Asked the man hopefully the doctor replied,
- 1:30no, but it's the only food. We can slide it under the door.
- 1:45For many of us, we are conditioned to think that we can be
- 1:49happy when we reach some point in the future. The future point can be
- 1:55next weekend, or when I finally go on vacation, or when I find
- 2:00retire. Chasing happiness in some future point can really make us miss the happiness
- 2:07in the here and the now. We will talk about this in this week's
- 2:12episode of Positively three sixty five, but first we have our trivia question of

- 4:13Keep shining your light and now back to our show. Do you know the
- 4:25answer to this week's trivia question? The question was what is the oldest soft
- 4:30drink in America? The answer Dr Pepper? Yes, Doctor Pepper. The
- 4:40name Dr Pepper was first used commercially in eighteen eighty five. It preceded the
- 4:46introduction of Coca Cola, but just one year now you know just how can
- 5:00we start finding happiness in the now? Here are a few practical tips.
- 5:08Number one practice mindfulness. Set aside time each day to be fully present.
- 5:15This could be through meditation, deep breathing exercises, or simply taking a moment
- 5:23to notice your surroundings and sensations. Two, keep a gratitude journal. Each
- 5:30day, write down three things that you are grateful for. This simple practice
- 5:35alone can shift your focus from what you lack to what you already have.
- 5:43Number three, engage in activities you enjoy. Make time for hobbies and activities
- 5:49that bring you joy, whether it's reading, cooking, or spending time with
- 5:54loved ones. Immerse yourself fully in these moments. Number four limit worrying about
- 6:01the future. While planning is important, try not to dwell excessively on future
- 6:09uncertainties. Trust that you can handle challenges as they arise, and focus on
- 6:15making the most of to day. Finally, number five, celebrate small winds,
- 6:21acknowledge, and celebrate your daily accomplishments, no matter how minor they may
- 6:27seem. This helps to build a sense of achievement and joy in the present.
- 6:34Remember, happiness is not a destination, it's a journey. By embracing
- 6:41the present moment, practicing mindfulness, and cultivating gratitude, we can find joy
- 6:46and fulfillment right here and now. Happiness is all around us. Sometimes we
- 6:56just need to pause, notice and take it in Chasaying happiness will lead you
- 7:13to misery until you realize that happiness is the way. Modern society conditions us
- 7:20to believe that happiness is a destination. We arrive at the promotion that will
- 7:27wash away all our problems, or the freedom we will obtain from leaving the
- 7:31nine to five job. So we now live with this idea. When X
- 7:39happens, I will be happy. Here's what I want you to realize.
- 7:45Happiness is not a paradise island that we must go looking for. No,
- 7:50happiness is a deep rooted rows of contentment that you carry with you everywhere you
- 7:58go, and you are the one who chooses whether or not to water it
- 8:03every morning upon waking up. Your happiness and well being have nothing to do
- 8:09with how well you think you're doing, how far you're into the journey you've
- 8:13crossed, or what's coming next. Your happiness and well being have everything to
- 8:20do with how present, accepting, and content you are with all that is
- 8:26right here, right now. As per the words of Thick not Han,
- 8:35there's no way to happiness. Happiness is the way. If you fail to
- 8:43appreciate this sentiment and continue to chase the big, elusive dream of a distant,
- 8:50happy future, then you'll never experience the self worth and contentment that can
- 8:54be found in this very moment. And it doesn't take much to be happy.
- 9:01Practice being present, write down what you're grateful for every morning, be
- 9:05accepting of whatever happens, and do something every day that brings joy to your
- 9:11heart. These are some of the easy, simple and practical pieces of advice
- 9:18on how to become happier each and every day. Thank you for joining us
