- 3:14All bills are paid and there's a balance in the bank. I don't
- 3:17this is a milestone. You're a solid solvent businessman, a captain of industry,
- 3:23a low goal. So that's the reason for the celebration dinner tonight.
- 3:28Oh cooy, they tell me. Did you enjoy your dinner? Angela?
- 3:30Who wouldn't I didn't? All right, wonderful. Did you notice the way
- 3:35that guy kept staring at us in the restaurant? Oh well, these days
- 3:38when you saw her in in order a double stake, it costs for a
- 3:39double take, even from the waiter. I wasn't talking about the waiter,
- 3:44huh. I mean that husky young fellow at the corner table. He was
- 3:46staring at us all through dinner. Why don't you jealous? I was just
- 3:50wondering. Well, I'd certainly be disappointed if at least one man didn't look
- 3:53twice screen. Slinky number I'm wearing is something new? Well, this great
- 3:58drooping number I'm wearing is something old. And the gentleman kept looking at me
- 4:01during these long screws. Okay, let's forget it. Eight books are commer
- 4:08Yeah, well, at the risk of being serious, there's something I want
- 4:12to tell you. I could never become a well, a more gull junior
- 4:16grade if it went for you. I continue how to become a more gull
- 4:20senior grade? Yeah? Nice? Moving out tonight, huh, Come and
- 4:28take a look, it's for free. Oh yeah, it is beautiful.
- 4:32Yeah, sure, up there over the building, not down the street.
- 4:40I know it. Look next to the other building. There's that friend again.
- 4:43Yeah, from the restaurant. You know, I'm sure of it.
- 4:45Now. He's been dogging my heels all day? Are you serious by search
- 4:48me? But I'm gonna find out right now. I'll look, Brooks.
- 4:50So you stay here in the office a few minutes. When the lights on,
- 4:53you'll think I'm still here. I'll get down and surprise him, find
- 4:56out what he wants. George, are you sure that you are? You
- 4:58didn't your mother warn you against Spring been following you. I'll go off the
- 5:00side door through the alley and then meet you in front. George, you
- 5:03can't just walk up to a stranger and say, look, but just who
- 5:05do you think you're following? I never say that, Brooks. See,
- 5:08that wouldn't be right. No, I'll say, look, Bud, just
- 5:11home do you think you're following? Well, it looks like mister Valentine got
- 5:25hisself laws Brooks. I'm worried. Henry. He said he'd meet me out
- 5:28here in front in a few minutes. Oh, he can take care of
- 5:30himself. Mister Valentine, can where if I see him? Sorry, when
- 5:34I'm making a rounds a villain, I'll tell him you eat well, Thanks,
- 5:39Hendry. I'm gonna have a look for myself, even if it means
- 5:43skulking down dark alley. Never a dull moment, No boy, George,
- 5:53Oh you don't knowing what happened. It's gonna be all right. I'll get
- 6:00a cab and get you to a doctor and I'll be right back right here.
- 6:09dB. Yeah, he's gonna have to help me with him. Yes,
- 6:13miss, that's mad and they feeling good. Oh he's fine except somebody
- 6:16hit him on the head and left him right here. He well, he
- 6:19was here, yeah, well he was propped up against the sash kick.
- 6:24I know, I know. Look, miss, I assure you all all
- 6:27right? Are you implying that I'm not? George was right here, and
- 6:32there was a stranger over there. And now that car, so don't you
- 6:36see old? Definitely blase, lady. I'm told I play cars on Robert.
- 6:43It's just what are you gonna do? Now? Uh, that's a
- 6:46good question. I wish I knew the answer. Oh, brun hello there,
- 7:02oh hello, oh oh, I can see, being married to you
- 7:09is going to be delightfully exciting. I don't want to be an all worry
- 7:15ward. But just where am i? You're home? Pool? Oh?
- 7:20Look am I sitting on somebody's lap? I'm really too lucky. But I
- 7:25was perfectly willing to marry you just for your money. Money, my how
- 7:30news gets around. You also have a sense of humor, and you're beautiful.
- 7:35Oh yeah, may be kind of pretty, but I don't know.
- 7:40Wait a minute, let's stop this hidden. You know you're really too big
- 7:45a boy to be getting into brawls. And the moment you got off the
- 7:48boat too? What boat? The boat from Australia's stilly. Oh, let's
- 7:53start from the beginning. All this is much too luxurious for a petted seller,
- 8:00and you're much too well anyway to be a nurse. Thank you,
- 8:05Paul. So I draw the round doubtful conclusion that I am saying, and
- 8:09just don't know why I'm supposed to be now just between us, gorgeous?
- 8:15Who am I? You love to play games, don't you? Yeah?
- 8:18Well you're Paul Gibson, the man I've decided to marry. How does the
- 8:24idea of marrying me strike you? Paul right between the eyes. What did
- 8:28you say Your name was Gloria? Gloria Bradley. Oh that's nice to know.
- 8:33I may want to introduce you to friends. Gloria, Just when did
- 8:37you decide to make me the happiest boy in the world at why? Who
- 8:41was the simplest thing to do? And you have to admit it's logical.
- 8:46That's what I like. Logic, cold, uncompromising logic. When father died
- 8:50and left the whole fortune to you, naturally the rest of the family was
- 8:54fit to be tied. Yes, I can imagine my stepmother and my brother
- 8:56Ted were all for putting a violent end your young life. But I thought
- 9:01it would be easier if I just married you and we shared all that beautiful
- 9:05money you and I. You see, I'm not greedy. Oh look,
- 9:09fun is fun, but I'm not in anything. I know you're in no
- 9:13condition to talk about it. Now. Look how did I get in here
- 9:16anyway? Only we're nursing your poor battered head at our front door. At
- 9:20four this morning. I drinked you on the couch here in the drawing room
- 9:24so you could sleep it off. Thanks. The others is still upstairs sleeping.
- 9:28But I sneak down early so I could be the first to talk to
- 9:31you. Your friend is in the kitchen getting some coffee, and I suppose
- 9:35he came from Australia with me carry me in his pouch. Now he said
- 9:41he met you at the boat. His name is George Valentine. Oh brother,
- 9:46wait, Gloria, I don't mind you wanting to marry me. I'm
- 9:50greatly flattered. I don't even mind sharing my fortune with you. But please
- 9:54don't tell me I'm in the kitchen drinking coffee. Oh you poor boy,
- 10:01your head. You're really the one who needs coffee. Yeah, yeah,
- 10:05you've got something there, and i'd better hurry in the kitchen before I drink
- 10:07it all up. Oh wait, Paul, don't you want me to go
- 10:09with you? Kin of myself. I want to talk to this George Valentine
- 10:13alone you and sorry, I just couldn't hold myself back. Now get up
- 10:30right, cross you out of Themiston. Well, that's the scalp treatment.
- 10:33Now we start off. Even then, that's the idea of following me all
- 10:37day yesterday? And what am I doing here? You know I've almost snipped
- 10:39up. Then that girl, get down and talk to you first. This
- 10:43morning. I might to spoil the house show, but you didn't. I
- 10:48was listening at the door line. Come on, let's have it. What's
- 10:50the deal here, do you? Oh? Oh? I see? Well,
- 10:54will you take a hundred dollars? What for me being you? And
- 10:58you'll be in me when you cut that out. I've just been through one
- 11:01of these quiz games with my future wife. Don't blame you for being confused.
- 11:05Thanks. You see when you came up to me in that ellie and
- 11:09asked me who I was, I well, I couldn't resist letting your heavy
- 11:13Oh brother, you're kidding. You didn't really fight against it. I'm serious.
- 11:18I knew you wouldn't help me if I told you the truth. It
- 11:22sounds silly. I'm getting used to things sounding silly. Go ahead, go
- 11:24ahead, I'm Paul Gibson. Just got in from Australia. I gathered that
- 11:28much. Well, now, mister Bradley, Willis Bradley, you own this
- 11:33house did about six months ago? It look at all his money to me
- 11:37of all people. Congratulations. Yeah, My mother and mister Bradley were childood
- 11:41sweethearts something like that. Anyway, since none of the Bradley family ever saw
- 11:46me, before I got the idea of passing you off for me. Why
- 11:50don't you like money? Oh, it's not that, it's well, I'm
- 11:56just afraid one of them wants to kill me. Why. Yes, there's
- 12:01the girl Gloria, and brother, of course, the second Missus Bradley.
- 12:07They're almighty put out because the old gentleman cut him off without a penny.
- 12:11I think one of them sent me this. Let me see that if you
- 12:18make any claims to the Bradleyest state, you will never live to enjoy it.
- 12:22To the point, isn't it if I don't claim the money, it
- 12:26goes to those three according to the will. Oh, this whole thing is
- 12:31ridiculous. Somebody's just trying to scare you, that's all. Forget it.
- 12:33I don't know about that. A couple of months ago, when I was
- 12:37trying to clean up my affairs in Australia, somebody took a pot shot at
- 12:39me, whoever it was, almost didn't miss, And for a hundred dollars,
- 12:46I'm supposed to find the villain in the piece the highway playing target heard
- 12:52about you taking on all sorts of tough jobs to people. But even then,
- 12:56not even then, you thought I'd have too much brains to take this
- 12:58on, so you shang eyed me into it. So what do you say?
- 13:03Will you do it? I gotta make a phone call as a young
- 13:07lady who's going without sleep right now because you couldn't resist temptation. Well,
- 13:09now there's an outside phone right here in the kitchen. You can use it.
- 13:13But will you help me? Well, well, I've been giving myself
- 13:20some sage and sound advice which I'm now going to proceed to ignore. It's
- 13:24a deal, mister Valentine. Good From now on I'll be known as the
- 13:28man from down Under. I hope that's just a figure of speech. In
- 13:43just a moment, we'll return to tonight's adventure of George Valentine. Say how
- 13:48long has it been since you've changed the oil filter on your car? You
- 13:50might think it was fairly recently, and I'd be surprised to find out that
- 13:54you've gone many miles beyond the safe operating period. Oil filter is to do
- 14:00the job, ride have to be replaced every six thousand miles. After that,
- 14:03they're so gummed up with sludge and grit that they just can't hold anymore
- 14:09and become clogged and useless, much the same as a vacuum cleaner when the
- 14:11dust bag is jammed full. So it's a good idea to have your oil
- 14:16filter checked regularly by the car savers at independent Chevern gas stations and standard stations.
- 14:22Remember, your car saver is in business to help you make your car
- 14:26run better and last longer. Now's a good time to be getting your car
- 14:31ready for winter weather driving ahead, so stop in soon for an oil drain
- 14:35and oil filter element replacement at any independent Chevern gas station or standard station where
- 14:41they say and mean we take better care of your car. You're hired to
- 14:54take the place of a man about to come into a fortune and marry one
- 14:58of the most beautiful girls the world. Sounds like a dream assignment. But
- 15:03when said man is marked for murder by a person's unknown, well, said
- 15:07dream darkens quickly into a nightmare. Even if your name is George Valentine anyway,
- 15:13that in effect is the subject of conversation between you and Brooksy in the
- 15:16drawing room of the palatial Bradley home on the outskirts of the city. Prose,
- 15:22be reasonable, I'm supposed to be incognito. You shouldn't have bounced any
- 15:24here like this. You Sydney, didn't expect me to sit around twiddling my
- 15:28thumbs. Why do you play studs so loud? Not so loud? Remember
- 15:31the stooges name now is Paul Gibson, the Pride of the ANZACs. Paul
- 15:35Gibson, girl. Please, I don't know if I like strangers calling me
- 15:37Da. I'm a blonde, easy going gentleman upstairs, as my friend George
- 15:41Valentine. If you had to give your name away, it could have at
- 15:43least been to a woman, and I know the woman. Okay, okaye,
- 15:46But how am I going to account for you hanging around? You could
- 15:50see I'm the scrub woman in mid stay in Consulate and I just had to
- 15:52see you to find out if everything he didn't given the brush conse And you
- 15:56don't have to tell me, Ted, this will soon be hit time.
- 15:58That would be missus Bradley and her stepside Tisza. You don't have to be
- 16:00so obvious about but I shall certainly speak my mind to this this Gibson.
- 16:06Oh, mister Gibson, Oh yes, that's right, good morning. Oh
- 16:11I'm Ted Bradley. This is my stepmother Clarissa. Who is this young woman?
- 16:17This is my secretary of Miss Brooks secretary. What do you mean?
- 16:21Oh, yes, yes, social secretary. You know I'll make all my
- 16:23arrangements for me dinner's, body's, dog show stuff. Okay, you're not
- 16:27wasting any time, are you all? Mister Gibson, why should he?
- 16:30Why not wait right in and start spending somebody else's porchun hand over hand?
- 16:36Why should he wait? Oh? I tell you this much. I'm not
- 16:37going to just stand stupidly by you may as well know it. I'm willing
- 16:41to do anything anything to keep that money out of your hand. She means
- 16:45any legal steps of court. Oh, yes, of course. I think
- 16:48that's all I have to say by way of greeting. Now, I'm going
- 16:52into breakfast, coming to Clarissa prides herself on her frankness be around. I
- 17:02wouldn't leave any lethal weapons around either one of those characters. Oh what's Gloria
- 17:07like? Gloria? Oh, she doesn't have to worry about lethal weapons.
- 17:11She was born with a whole assortment of them. Oh you know Brooks.
- 17:15Either. It gives me an idea. I think I know how to bring
- 17:18things to her head around here the quickest way I'm going to tell the beautiful
- 17:22Gloria. She can have my hand in marriage, missus, Paul Gibson,
- 17:37I'm gonna like that. Yes, yes, I thought you would, Gloria.
- 17:41I wonder if it was something you said that gave me that impression.
- 17:44Oh, miss Brooks, I forgot about you. Why don't you squam is
- 17:48the American expression, mister Gibson. Oh, that's very cute. I'll make
- 17:51a note of that. One more thing, dear, I promised to make
- 17:53you an exciting, loving wife as long as your money holds out. Well,
- 17:59there's lots of I think this is beautiful. Two people so much in
- 18:03love still finding time to talk about practical things. I don't want to start
- 18:07bossing you, Paul. But this secretary of yours is entirely too social.
- 18:14Oh I said was it was beautiful? And I thought it was like the
- 18:15way you said. Now, please, ladies don't fight over me. Oh,
- 18:18never mind. Now I want the others to know. Clarissa. Hello.
- 18:23Yeah, she thinks I'm going to let you out of my side.
- 18:26She's crazy. This is an act, Brooksy. Remember, and she kissed
- 18:29you. Nice fight. You didn't put out buster leading about Gloria. Here
- 18:36I can let Paul tell you himself. Yes, well, folks, I
- 18:41know this is going to seem a little sudden, but you know how it
- 18:45is when love hits you. Yeah. Well, the simple fact is Gloria
- 18:52and I are going to be married. Gloria tells man he's out of his
- 18:56mind. On the contrary, he's remarkably said he thinks he needs a wife
- 19:00to help him take care of all our money. Well, this is a
- 19:06surprise. I'm not going to let you get away with this. At least,
- 19:10I am willing to share Paul's money with him, but you and Tel
- 19:12won't be enough from you, Clarissa. Let's be reasonable. Let's face it.
- 19:18Glorias stolen a march on us. Suppose we try to be good sports
- 19:22about it. Congratulations, thank you, I'm sure you don't mean it,
- 19:27and good luck Paul. Kiss beautiful. Two people still much in love.
- 19:33They don't care who stands against you. Shut up, mister Gibson. I
- 19:38was all. I know what you're saying. Don't expect me to congratulate you,
- 19:41mister Gibson, and you're not married yet, Gloria, don't worry.
- 19:47Clarissa will get over it. I will talk to her, and so I
- 19:51I won't be long. Had worked worked, Alisa, I was a family
- 19:56braw and Gloria didn't even get hurt. Oh, it was much more than
- 20:00that. Somebody just overplayed his hand. How did you manage to miss it?
- 20:03Oh? It was easy. I don't have any proof, but I
- 20:07think I'll play a hunch and start clearing up this little matter for Paul.
- 20:18Really, mister Gibson, I thought you said your little piece. Why did
- 20:22you want to see us here in the library? Oh, mister Gibson,
- 20:26your friend, mister Valentine. It's still upstairs. I think he's taking an
- 20:29out. Yes, well I can see him. Waiter, Miss Presca,
- 20:30where's Ted? Oh he's being very galant. He said something about buying me
- 20:34an engagement present and left for downtown. Oh well, I particularly wanted him
- 20:40to be here. We'll look. Suppose I round up some champagne. Maybe
- 20:45he'll be back soon, an't it? Oh? Where? Ah huh?
- 20:56Just a minute, it's dead and Miss Bradley wants to know if you have
- 20:59any preference about them anagram on your engagement present. Tell my brother, I
- 21:02think he's an idiot. He should save his money. He's going to need.
- 21:04Tell him to get back here. It's urgent. Oh, mister Bradley,
- 21:07your sister wants me to tell you you're an idiot, and mister Gibson
- 21:11would like to see you right away. Oh, don't mention it. Goodbye?
- 21:17Oh yes, the champagne now really, mister mother, if I may
- 21:21call you mother now, Glory Anne, Clarissa. There's a little matter I
- 21:26want to straighten out now while I have the chance. Oh you who me?
- 21:33You know there's something gave me here? Just where did Paul pick you
- 21:37up? Pick me up? And sadly I wouldn't speak like that about you,
- 21:42Oh would I? You know exactly what I mean. He's hardly off
- 21:47the boat and right away he has himself a social secretary. Oh, mister
- 21:51Gibson is a fast work as you win. You stop at the two of
- 21:53you there that it sounded like i'd just start here. Couldn't have been a
- 22:03shot one of the king from upstairs? Yes, Oh yeah, somebody seems
- 22:11to be using you upstairs. Oh it's post friends to what's hap what's happened?
- 22:18What's the man on the stairs here? Yes, yes, I'm afraid
- 22:22he is. You've got a lot of explaining to do. Valentiane passing yourself
- 22:32off as in Australian getting yourself engaged with Lieutenant Johnson. Yes, I know.
- 22:37Now let's get out of this kitchen. I'm beginning to feel like a
- 22:38butler. Just a minute, will you? When this thing happened, all
- 22:41the women are together in the library, young Bradley was downtown buying a present
- 22:45for his sister. You were the only one prowling around, and I'll way
- 22:48them in a Johnson, You don't really think I killed Gibson? No,
- 22:52I know you didn't have a motive. I thought I knew who tried to
- 22:55kill Gibson in Australian Son in that threatening note. Yeah, oh no,
- 22:59something's got me starting he Look, you have a lot of routine detail work
- 23:03here with a boy or well, well give me about an hour. Will
- 23:04you tell the others? I had to step out a while and it was
- 23:07okay with you. Do you think the police department would stake you to a
- 23:10long distance call State Department Washington? Yeah, it's important, Johnson. Now
- 23:14look here's the door, Lieutenant Johnson. Don't you think this family has had
- 23:26to put up with enough for one day? It's been a murder committed missus
- 23:30Bradley, and that's illegal. I really should feel sorry for myself. It's
- 23:36really funny in a gruesome sort of way. What's gruesome in a funny way?
- 23:40I mean, how about me engaged to the wrong man and a widow
- 23:44before him, even a white You have my deepest sympathies. And Bradley.
- 23:48Incidentally, Lieutenant, where is mister Valentine? He took a little walk some
- 23:52time ago my promation. Does anybody mind? Oh, we were just curious.
- 23:57It's all right, I'll take this. Yes, Look, Ted,
- 24:03I'm planning what you went Valentine. What do you want where? There's something
- 24:07I want you to do for me, Ted before I get back to the
- 24:10house. Now you just answer yes or no. I don't want any of
- 24:14the others to know what we're talking about. I look beat it upstairs tomorrow
- 24:18and the top dresser drawer you'll find an envelope. Oh yeah, trusting you,
- 24:21Ted, because you were the only one out of the house when poor
- 24:23Gibson got it. Then endlope was something he gave me. It's important.
- 24:27I want you to make sure it's still there and nobody got to it.
- 24:32That's straight. Oh I suppose I'll hang on Okay, oh, Lieutenant Johnson,
- 24:37it's Valentine. He wants me to check something in his room. Okay,
- 24:41I guess so I'll be just the second now, missus Bradley, Miss
- 24:45Bradley, that's threatening. Note, we're you sure trace it? You know
- 24:49you certainly won't play a stupid melodramatic thing like that to me. And don't
- 24:53look at me. Oh no, not again. I know I shouldn't have
- 24:59let Valentine you I'm developing a split personality, broceed. This guy isn't shot.
- 25:07What did you do to him? Why? The shot was purely for
- 25:11dramatic effect, Lauri. I guess though I pushed him a little too hard
- 25:14at the head of the stairs. He'll be all right in a minute.
- 25:18Oh what happened? Yeah, that's what I want to know, val I
- 25:21just staged a repeat performance of the little act that was put on here a
- 25:23little earlier today. You'll heard me ted when you were on the phone today.
- 25:29You weren't out buying a present. You were just where I was a
- 25:33minute ago, using the outside phone in the kitchen. What about that,
- 25:37Joha? What proof has he got? One thing at a time. There's
- 25:42the tell tale phone in the kitchen. Now take it. What was that
- 25:47nonsense about Ted? Mister Valentine, all of you just saw how Gibson could
- 25:51have been murdered with an iron bound alibi for Ted, always lying. Ted,
- 25:56you were the only one here who knew for a fact that I wasn't
- 25:59Paul Gibson. How did I know? Claria? I thought I was Paul
- 26:03and she couldn't wait for the wedding bells. Clarissa was convinced I was Paul.
- 26:07She hit the roof when she thought her stepdaughter was marrying a fortune and
- 26:10young brad. Yeah, Lieutenant, he didn't mind at all. Graciously he
- 26:12congratulated the happy bride and grom and why because he knew, Don Well,
- 26:17I wasn't Gibson. Oh, George, that was for Lieutenant Johnson. I
- 26:19took the message. Doesn't carefully, Johnson. This should explain things. I
- 26:23hope, well, I hope you know. It says there was a passport
- 26:26issued to Ted Bradley some two months ago, a passport to Australia. Ted,
- 26:33But I, oh, that was when you said you were going on
- 26:38a long fishing trip to Rainbow Lake. So Ted didn't have any trouble recognizing
- 26:42Gibson not after that pot shot he took a him in Australia. Look,
- 26:47I say that for your lawyer, Bradley, and you, Valentine, you're
- 26:52gonna come along. I'bb me now, writer Johnson. After all, a
- 26:55mogul can't let his business go completely to part canny Angel. Did you ever
- 27:07stop to think that there's a very real reason why some engines need lots of
- 27:11repair and wear out sooner than other engines at the same model, even though
- 27:15both go an equal number of miles more times than not. It's the motor
- 27:19oil it makes the difference. It either protects or fails to protect. Heavy
- 27:25duty RPM motor oil gives top protection actually reduces where of critical engine parts.
- 27:30So buy what's best for your car. Next time you need oil, be
- 27:34sure to get heavy duty RPM motor oil at any standard station or independent Chevron
- 27:40gas station where they say and mean we take better care of your car.
- 27:55George, you know, I simply can't understand how any girl can let us.
- 28:00So if marry a man for his money, yeah, Dad must be
- 28:03an uphill struggle all the way. All I'd want is the man with the
- 28:08business that's finally beginning to pay off a little money in the bank. Yes,
- 28:14I see, Sally incentive, I need not to change the subject book
- 28:19scene. Well, I took a little look at that ledger of ours too,
- 28:23and the balance in the bank. Yeah. Well, let's uh pretty
- 28:26much of a mirage. Changel On, what are you talking about? You
- 28:30made no provision for Texas and we're through shelling out. I'll be the Bookers
- 28:34tycoon on record. Oh dear, never mind, bus see look at all
- 28:40the fun we're going to have building up our fortune again. Tonight's transcribed Adventure
- 29:07of George Valentine has been brought to you by Standard Oil Company of California,
- 29:11on behalf of independent Chevron Gas Stations and Standard Stations throughout the West. Robert
- 29:17Bailey has starred as George, with Virginia Gregg as Brooks Let George Dowett.
- 29:21Was written by David Victor, directed by Kenneth Webb. Ken Christie was heard
- 29:25as Lieutenant Johnson, Jean Bates as Gloria, Chester Stratton as Paul Lee Patrick
- 29:30as Clarissa, and Roland Morris as Ted. Music by Gaylord Carter, as
- 29:34he announced in John Houston, Listen again next week, same time, say
- 29:44station to let George do it. Let George Doott has hurt overseas through the
- 29:56worldwide facilities of the Armed Forces. Ra Yo say, this is the mutual
- 30:07don lead broadcasting Welcome back. How I'm getting to hear Virginia Greg as Brooksie
- 30:33do a little bit of that Australian accent. It's too bad she didn't use
- 30:37it in character. I guess that would to me was the uh was the
- 30:45challenge for Bob Bailey because he didn't sound Australian, but the guy who he
- 30:52was standing in for, certainly Dad. He sounded as an Australian as a
- 30:57Philly chee steak sandwich. That Virginia Greg definitely the queen of voice talent.
- 31:06I'm personally wondering if anyone heard a radio program where she played somebody Australian to
- 31:11use that accent for more than a few lines. Now I mentioned that finished
- 31:18the Bob Bailey part of Yours Truly, Johnny Dowler, that definitely did not
- 31:22finish, or of excuse me, let George do it, but that definitely
- 31:27that did not actually finish. Let George do it, and we'll talk a
- 31:32little bit more about the second, less well known version, and let George
- 31:37do it on Wednesday. But now we'll go ahead and we'll turn to listener
- 31:41comments and feedback, and we have this from Jerome who says, do you
- 31:52have any old Charlie Chen shows? Thank you for responding, nice sight,
- 31:57and my as is that in terms of what we're going to play in the
- 32:02future on the show, we do have. We do have access to one
- 32:10US Charlie Chan show and quite a few Australian Charlie Chan programs over the radio.
- 32:21And there were a couple of different eras in Charlie Chan over the radio.
- 32:28There was the nineteen thirties, which were serialized adventures fifteen minutes serials with
- 32:34Walter Connolly, and these are mostly lost, much like the Perry Mason stories,
- 32:43they you know, because of the fact they're serialized, you know,
- 32:45you just don't have a complete set. There's one story that's often claimed to
- 32:52be complete, Colonel Willoughby's Baffling Murder Mysteries, but really they just have parts
- 33:05four through seven, and with seven being the last part. The good part
- 33:10is you have the end. The bad part is that you're coming in,
- 33:16you know, right towards the end. So there's one episode of mystery Playhouse
- 33:24from World War Two which features Charlie Chen played by Ed Begley, and then
- 33:30we have a lot of Australian episodes, and then there are some partial American
- 33:34episodes, but we'll just be playing that one US episode and then a few
- 33:40Australian Charlie Chan programs when we get to it on the Great Detectives of Old
- 33:45Time Radio, and Jerome says, and I do want to congratulate you on
- 33:52your fine community service to old time radio addicts, while I'm glad to a
- 33:55botch and that will actually do it for today. Join us back here next
- 34:01Monday. Bob Bailey will be in this time spot with yours truly Johnny Dowler,
- 34:07and join us tomorrow live for where Frank Rice formerly heard on Mondays.
- 34:13We'll be airing on Tuesdays. Send your comments to Box thirteen at rate Detectives
