- 0:00To the men and women serving our great nation and our armed services, those
- 0:04serving communities as law enforcement officers and first responders. I say you are all
- 0:10essential workers. Welcome to the Morning Show with Dreston Scott. All right,
- 0:17ruminators, good to have you with us this morning Tuesday on the program show
- 0:20five and three. Great to have back with us. He is formerly Florida's
- 0:26governor, now Florida US Senator Rick Scott, Senator, Good to have you
- 0:30back on the program. How you been, sir, How are you doing?
- 0:35It's awesome to have you back on the program. Although let me tell
- 0:40you it's wonderfully on your program. But I mean is you did and said
- 0:43your paragramment is completely dysfunctional. I was going to ask you where do you
- 0:50start? I mean, let me before we get to the media issues.
- 0:54How big of a shock was it to your system to leave Florida's governs governing
- 1:00this state, the legislative atmosphere, the balance budget, term limits and going
- 1:06to that nonsense in Washington. You know the thing, you know, I've
- 1:11always I've done a bunch of business startups, so when you know, it's
- 1:15like it's like a startup, and but I've taken over a lot of businesses
- 1:21and fixed them. This is a broken down business up here. It's you
- 1:23know, what you're trying to figure out is why don't these people care about
- 1:27like the budget, national security, you know, families, voters. I
- 1:36mean, it's just fascinating when you look at the decisions that are made up
- 1:40here. You think, who in their right mind would allowing eight million people,
- 1:45let's say ten percent of them are bad actors, one percent are bad
- 1:49actors, criminals, drug sellers, you know, terrorists. That that pretty
- 1:53bad day for this country. And that's what's going on every day. You
- 1:57look at that, and you look at why wouldn't why would we not focus
- 2:00on having a lethal military rather than a woke military? Or I mean,
- 2:06and Krestin, you realized how bad the budget is. We've had a one
- 2:08point eight percent increase in population in five years and the budgets of fifty five
- 2:13percent. Well, I was going to ask you what's the bigger problem,
- 2:16the border or the budget or are they one A and one b. They're
- 2:22all the it's all the same. There's you know what's interesting is nothing's getting
- 2:25better, nothing's getting fixed. It's not that hard. I walked in,
- 2:30you know when I became governor, I walked in with the four billion dollar
- 2:32budget. Deb said, what do you have to do? Say, well,
- 2:35this is how much I make, this is what I'm going to spend.
- 2:38It's not the hardest thing in the world, right, and so so
- 2:42I did that when I was governor. I said, Okay, this is
- 2:44what we're going to take in. We're not going to spend more than that.
- 2:46I mean, that's what the this is what the voters have decided to
- 2:49give us in tax revenues. So we're not We're not going to do anymore.
- 2:53And by the way, we don't need more tax revenues. So but
- 2:57up here numbers they're irrelevant and people have no idea. Do you realize that
- 3:01that your federal budget, we're re collecting less revenues every year. Now,
- 3:06our revenues are going down, but are spending torn up? Well, I
- 3:09was going to say, the largest source of revenue right now is borrowing money,
- 3:14and that's unsustainable. Think that we are borrowing more money than the increase
- 3:22in our gross domestic product with it, our debt is going faster than our
- 3:28economy is growing. How do you do that? But don't worry, you
- 3:35know, up here no one cares. It's free. Everything's free up here.
- 3:40Well, you know, the Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell is vowing we're
- 3:45not going to have a government shutdown. Senator, I think there's a bunch
- 3:49of us out here that don't fear one bit of government shut down. If
- 3:53that's what we need to do, the question becomes, what are we going
- 3:55to fund in the midst of the shutdown? And it's it seems as though
- 4:00it's all set up to fail intentionally to frighten people away from that. Are
- 4:04you concerned about a shutdown? No one wants to shut down, But McConnell
- 4:11and Schumer they orchestrate this so they can do it omnious. I've did appear
- 4:15my fifth year. This is the first year we haven't done it. What
- 4:17they do is they orchestrate it right before Christmas. I say, oh,
- 4:21if you don't vote for this, the world's going to end. Yep.
- 4:25You know that. You know nobody will be able to survive tomorrow. You
- 4:27know so. And you know why they wanted because they get their ear marks.
- 4:30Last year we had seventy five hundred ear marks, So you're paying for
- 4:35roller skating rinks and sidewalks and private country clubs, all sorts of stuff.
- 4:41I mean, because you know that's what your federal gunments. You know that's
- 4:44what you expected, right, So that's but you know, if you're if
- 4:47you're Schumer, McConnell, then you get all your special projects. Nobody knows
- 4:51button no, so you realize here's how they give it to us, because
- 4:56they gave us the omnibus, this last one at one through in the morning
- 4:58the Tuesday before Christmas, and they wanted to vote, vot vote on it
- 5:01that day. It was three times to size the Bible, not as interesting,
- 5:06harder to read. Okay, they wanted to vote that day. We
- 5:10at least postponed it for two days, but nobody could. Nobody knew it
- 5:13was in it. But they got the votes because they got all the Democrats
- 5:16and McConnell got his his friends to vote for it. So so it was
- 5:19one point seven trillion dollars with no accountability. All one of alvas borrowed money.
- 5:25It's all borrowed. Last year, we borrowed extra two and a half
- 5:29trillion dollars. So you anybody who sits here and believes interest rates are going
- 5:32to come down when you look at the federal debt. We will have thirty
- 5:36five tradion dollars for the debt in the next ninety days. And none of
- 5:40this is hard to fix. Think of it like a fine wine. A
- 5:46excuse me, Please have some more water the pellegrino. Yes, sparkling,
- 5:51this breeze very nice. Good morning, and welcome to the Morning Show with
- 5:57Dresden Scott Dominators with US Senator Rick Scott for just a few more minutes.
- 6:03Senator, you kind of touched on it, and I want to drill a
- 6:06little bit deeper. We've got to turnover now with the Republican National Committee.
- 6:11Ron McDaniel thankfully stepping down. But it speaks to a big issue that I've
- 6:16had concerns about and we probably addressed it when you served as governor and we
- 6:21visited all those many years ago. We it's not enough to just get control
- 6:28of the House, the Senate and the White House to try to get some
- 6:30common sense in place. We have to have like minded people. How do
- 6:34we do that? How do we make sure that the Republican Party isn't filled
- 6:39with rhinos? Right? You know? How do we get there? You
- 6:43needs, here's what you need to do. Anybody that's running, bet them.
- 6:46I mean think about it. When you hire somebody to do anything at
- 6:49your house, you look at the background. You know what happens in politics.
- 6:53Bok, Johnny gave a great talk, let's make him something. No,
- 6:57Johnny's never had any success. It might be a good talker, and
- 7:00look at their background. If they can't budget, if they can't bounce their
- 7:03own budget, you think they're going to balance somebody else's. So I think
- 7:09it starts with the voters have to have higher expectations and then hold people accountable
- 7:14when they get in. When somebody's running, so I'm running for re elections,
- 7:17people should ask me what are you going to do right? What is
- 7:21your focus going to be? And then it's my job to do that or
- 7:26I don't get hired again. And so it's our fault as voters. We
- 7:30don't have high enough standards. We said, well, he's the right party,
- 7:34so I'll vote for him. No, if you want something done,
- 7:39let remember have pressure waiways, if you want something done and get the busiest
- 7:43person to do it right. Why don't we elect people that have had success?
- 7:46So let's look at the background. Right, if they've had success in
- 7:49that background, you're probably going to have success in this. But there comes
- 7:55a point where you know, we get only so many choices, and we
- 8:00hear people talk about picking the lesser of evils, and sadly that's what's happening
- 8:03I think across the country and certainly in some Republican districts. So in that
- 8:09scenario, what run? We just have to then run? Yeah, go
- 8:13run for office. I tell people, go run for office. Go volunteer
- 8:18on campaigns. You can make a difference. And you know, the other
- 8:22thing is everybody can write not bed. Everybody can write letters to the entwer
- 8:24everybody can show up and support our you know, oppost candidates. Go do
- 8:30it. I mean, this is this is rip. If you want your
- 8:33government to get better, get your button gear and get more active. Don't
- 8:39don't don't complain, get active. Like I like it. I have people
- 8:43that just bug the living daylights out of me. Guess what, It's good
- 8:46for me because they care about issue and they probably know more about than I
- 8:50do, and it gives me ideas how I can solve their issue. That's
- 8:54my job. Like I've got a guy that gets up every day it says,
- 8:58how can Rick Scott get there, get rid of the cash regime.
- 9:01You know what. I work on it a little bit every day. Because
- 9:03his name's Tony Costa. He's get up every day and says he's a Cuban
- 9:07refugee. He bought in the Bay of Pigs. He says, I want
- 9:09that guy. I want the cashier regime gone. Rick Scott's got power.
- 9:13I'm gonna see what I can do. The game done. And he gives
- 9:16me ideas and I work on him. That's how this is supposed to work.
- 9:20Be active. Lastly, we've got we've got the shut down looming again
- 9:26on Friday, and then another deadline a week later, and then another deadline
- 9:31in April. What's the answer here? What do you see coming? Well,
- 9:35the only real answer right now constructioner won't do spending bills. The only
- 9:39real answer, and I just not bet on this in the hill, is
- 9:43that we should do a continued resolution through the end of the fiscal year and
- 9:46then start next year and actually try to pass the budget. I'm on the
- 9:48budget committee. We don't have meetings about the budget. We don't have a
- 9:52vote on a budget. I mean, the first thing they have to do
- 9:56is if you want to pass a budget start talking about it. But they
- 10:00don't. But Schumer McConnell don't want it because they'll go do a spending bill
- 10:05and they'll get just what they want in and nobody else will know what's in
- 10:07it. Do you think there's Do you think there's an appetite for continuing resolution
- 10:11after we've had one after another after another? Uh? Yeah, I think
- 10:18there is. I could because it's a lesser of two evils, the every
- 10:22windy. I have a dinner with a bunch of fiscal responsibility people in the
- 10:26House, and no one none of us want a continued resolution. None of
- 10:31us do. But do we want an omnibus? That's way worse. And
- 10:35so I think it's our only option out right now. But within person we've
- 10:39got, we've got that going on, We've got the Israel Aid, we've
- 10:43got Are we going to support or not? Ukraine? Are we going to
- 10:46secure a border? You know how remember how FISA was used to surveil the
- 10:50Trump campaign? Well that's going to expire. I think it's April eleventh,
- 10:54or we're going to get it fixed to where you know, this doesn't happen
- 10:58again. We got I mean, but all these things are coming to head
- 11:01because mccollin Schumer sit there and they think they'll just cramps up and down our
- 11:05throat at the last minute. Hang toops, Senator, and I hope we
- 11:09can get you back here. I don't think so. I don't think.
- 11:15I appreciate you taking time, and I hope we can get you back here
- 11:16more frequently. Hi, see, I have a good day. Bye bye,
- 11:20nice talking to you. Thank you US. Senator Rick Scott with US
- 11:24on the Morning Show.
