- 0:59Speaker 1: our recent guests of the show, Martin Chandler and his
- 1:03Speaker 1: two sisters Angie and Kirsty got on at the London
- 1:06Speaker 1: Landmarks Half Marathon. Do you know what if we had
- 1:14Speaker 1: a guest in, they wouldn't get a word Him've got
- 1:17Speaker 1: so much sport to get through. So sit back and enjoy,
- 1:20Speaker 1: have a lunchtime coffee break and we get this show
- 1:23Speaker 1: on the road with a cracking tune. We've got the
- 1:26Speaker 1: Foretellers fret Tellers cracking tune to get a sports show
- 1:54Speaker 1: on the go. Well, do you know what I tell
- 1:56Speaker 1: you the truth? I was going to have a week
- 1:57Speaker 1: off because I've got loads of stuff to do and
- 2:00Speaker 1: at the end of the day we are volunteers. We
- 2:02Speaker 1: do our best, but there is so much local sport
- 2:04Speaker 1: that came my way. I thought I've got to do it.
- 2:07Speaker 1: I've got to do a show. So got no guests in.
- 2:10Speaker 1: As I say, if there was a guest in, they
- 2:11Speaker 1: wouldn't get a word in because we got so much
- 2:14Speaker 1: to get through. So let's get cracking on this Thursday lunchtime,
- 2:18Speaker 1: you're listening to the sports ferre Kevin Day here on
- 2:20Speaker 1: Radio Folkston, and we're going to start with football. Folks in.
- 2:24Speaker 1: The Victor went to Dartford who are top of the
- 2:27Speaker 1: table last week and do you know what, they were
- 2:30Speaker 1: winning two nil a half time. But Dartford, you know,
- 2:33Speaker 1: their quality told in the end they came back pushing
- 2:36Speaker 1: and pushing and they drew to all In fact, they
- 2:38Speaker 1: had a goal disallowed right the last kick of the
- 2:41Speaker 1: game for offside. But the Victor players were playing really well.
- 2:45Speaker 1: But it does make you wonder there was a new
- 2:48Speaker 1: manager hovering in the background and perhaps they were all
- 2:51Speaker 1: playing for a place the next season. So welcome to
- 2:54Speaker 1: folks and Victor Jay Saunders and this Saturday they are
- 2:58Speaker 1: at home to abous and pits. But more from that
- 3:02Speaker 1: about football. Folksing at Victa Football on Saturday with Adrian
- 3:06Speaker 1: when he comes in and tells us all about because
- 3:09Speaker 1: he was there he was doing the commentary on the game,
- 3:11Speaker 1: so he knows all about it. I have Town lost
- 3:15Speaker 1: five to two at Mursdam, confirming relegation into the Southern
- 3:18Speaker 1: Counties East of Football League better known as the Scaffold League.
- 3:23Speaker 1: Today well sorry on Saturday there first of four remaining
- 3:27Speaker 1: games is at home to Broadbridge Heath and it'd be
- 3:29Speaker 1: ashamed to see them slip away. I really do hope
- 3:32Speaker 1: they bounce back at the first first time of asking.
- 3:35Speaker 1: It's a tough league to get out out of. Whitsta
- 3:39Speaker 1: Ball is still in there. More about whitstaball later. If
- 3:41Speaker 1: we get a moment and Fabusham are top of the table.
- 3:45Speaker 1: They are teams that folks used to play regularly in
- 3:48Speaker 1: the Kent County Premier League. New Romney be Borden Village
- 3:51Speaker 1: one nil, keeping them top, and Hawkins you're beating three
- 3:54Speaker 1: nil at home by Fleet Down United. Now this league
- 3:58Speaker 1: comprises of seventeen teams, so thirty two games played the season.
- 4:03Speaker 1: New Romney have played twenty four games with fifty nine
- 4:06Speaker 1: points remaining top and Hawkins have also played twenty four
- 4:10Speaker 1: with forty five points. At the time on the weekend
- 4:13Speaker 1: they were in fifth place, so they still have eight
- 4:16Speaker 1: games to go. On Saturday, New Romney at home to
- 4:19Speaker 1: Metro Gas. Now Hawkins had a game last night at
- 4:23Speaker 1: to Minster FC where they lost two nil, which pushes
- 4:27Speaker 1: them now down to sixth place, and on Saturday Hawkins
- 4:30Speaker 1: are at home to a Guru Nanak. Now the folks
- 4:34Speaker 1: in the Victor Ladies had to fix the last Sunday
- 4:36Speaker 1: against Ramsgate but lost three to one, but they still
- 4:39Speaker 1: won the league. This Sunday they visited Sitting Born in
- 4:42Speaker 1: the Kent Divisional Cup their final league games. Oh listened
- 4:46Speaker 1: to this their final league games against Poor Old Bay
- 4:50Speaker 1: Points second team, Poor Old Bay Point the second. They
- 4:53Speaker 1: are bottom of the division. They've played eleven games. They
- 4:58Speaker 1: haven't drawn a game. They've lost all eleven games and
- 5:02Speaker 1: I don't know how they must have had a penalization
- 5:05Speaker 1: or something there minus two points. That haven't just won
- 5:09Speaker 1: a game there minus two So you've got to feel
- 5:12Speaker 1: from I was in the team once when I was
- 5:15Speaker 1: about seven or eight. We never won a game Anyway,
- 5:18Speaker 1: moving on swiftly, let's have another little bit of music.
- 5:21Speaker 1: We have got Anie Lennox and Why any Lenox There
- 5:59Speaker 1: nineteen ninety two and I love that song. Okay, time
- 6:04Speaker 1: for a bit of hockey news. Now. It is the
- 6:06Speaker 1: end of the season last Saturday for the hockey teams,
- 6:09Speaker 1: so I'm just going to give you a brief roundup
- 6:11Speaker 1: of what went on last Saturday. Now, the men's first team,
- 6:15Speaker 1: they drew against the Blackheath, but they'd already won the league.
- 6:21Speaker 1: Tom Bean got both the goals. They are now the
- 6:24Speaker 1: South East Division one East champions and they move up
- 6:27Speaker 1: to the Premier Division. The men's second eleven. Unfortunately they
- 6:32Speaker 1: couldn't feel decided because of unavailability and injuries, so there
- 6:37Speaker 1: was no game there. Now the men's third team, Oh
- 6:40Speaker 1: listen to this one man. They were finishing the season
- 6:44Speaker 1: on a massive high. They are now champions of in
- 6:48Speaker 1: Victor Division three and they'd beat Ashford eleven to one
- 6:53Speaker 1: eleven one what okay? So the goals came from Alex
- 6:58Speaker 1: Wishard had got a hatch, Phil King got a hat trick,
- 7:02Speaker 1: Alie Sutton, Sam Ireland, former guests of the show, Jack
- 7:05Speaker 1: Timmins and theo Coombs. Nick Ward got one each, so
- 7:09Speaker 1: what a way to finish the season eleven one and
- 7:12Speaker 1: the men's fourth team they also banged in the goals.
- 7:15Speaker 1: They won seven to one against Blackheath Heathens. Charlie Pepper
- 7:19Speaker 1: got five goals and Kyle Mackett got two in a
- 7:23Speaker 1: high scoring game at Girl Court. The men's fifteen well
- 7:26Speaker 1: they lost six to five and Ben Taylor got to
- 7:30Speaker 1: Jim mcgillaway got one, Gilia Michotte got one and tender
- 7:36Speaker 1: nieka He got one as well. I've got those right.
- 7:40Speaker 1: The men's sixteen they beat seven Oaks two nil, Joseph
- 7:43Speaker 1: Allen and Jake Davison getting the goals. The men's seventeen
- 7:47Speaker 1: they beat the Tunbridge Wells Hoppers at four nil, goals
- 7:51Speaker 1: coming from Matt Goodwin he got two, Matt Carter and
- 7:55Speaker 1: Dan Kennedy. And the men's eighth team they lost three
- 7:59Speaker 1: two to burnt Ash Development, Norvel Scott and a Clive
- 8:03Speaker 1: Styles getting the goals. Well the ladies was a bit
- 8:06Speaker 1: of a low scoring weekend for them, not too good.
- 8:08Speaker 1: They didn't have a win. Out of the five teams
- 8:11Speaker 1: there was two draws and three losses. The Ladies' first
- 8:15Speaker 1: team lost to to one to EPSOM, the goal coming
- 8:19Speaker 1: from Hannah Harvey. The Ladies second team they drew one all,
- 8:23Speaker 1: Bekashaw getting the single goal. The Ladies thirdeen are beat
- 8:27Speaker 1: no sorry, they lost to a Maystone two nil. The
- 8:30Speaker 1: Ladies fourteen they drew two all, with Gillingham and Kourion's
- 8:34Speaker 1: Rachel Darling dry Berd getting one and Sarah Chiezman getting
- 8:37Speaker 1: the other one. And the Ladies fifteen well, if you
- 8:40Speaker 1: remember the Ladies fifteen they only started last yeah, last season,
- 8:45Speaker 1: so this is their second season and now their last
- 8:48Speaker 1: game of the season and they had to play Herne
- 8:50Speaker 1: Bay and Herne Ba we top and the Ops fifteen
- 8:54Speaker 1: worse second, so it was a winner play all. I
- 8:58Speaker 1: don't know what happened, but they were are a very
- 9:00Speaker 1: very strong side her and Bay and they beat the
- 9:03Speaker 1: Ops five nil. But you can't take it away from
- 9:06Speaker 1: the fifteen. They've got second place and they are going up,
- 9:10Speaker 1: so how good is that? And finally the last bit
- 9:13Speaker 1: of hockey is good luck to the under fourteen's boys
- 9:17Speaker 1: and the under eighteen's girls on Sunday when they travel
- 9:21Speaker 1: to the Hockey Center at Nottingham. Both sides are playing
- 9:24Speaker 1: in a national cup final. Yes not a local and
- 9:27Speaker 1: national cup final for their age group. So good luck
- 9:30Speaker 1: to all and well done. So I mean once again
- 9:33Speaker 1: flying the flag for folks and optimists, and what a great,
- 9:36Speaker 1: great day they're going to have. So that's it for
- 9:39Speaker 1: a little while. For the hockey, they do start a
- 9:41Speaker 1: Friday night league I think is with mixed hockey where
- 9:44Speaker 1: the team consists of men and ladies. So I think
- 9:48Speaker 1: our media guru Amy will have a couple of weeks off.
- 9:51Speaker 1: I especially find something to report on. But I must
- 9:54Speaker 1: think Amy, I'll do this all the time. She is
- 9:56Speaker 1: so good. She's got thirteen teams to chase up. The
- 9:59Speaker 1: captain is the goalscorers, and she does it and they're
- 10:02Speaker 1: in my inbox by a Monday morning. Okay, time for
- 10:06Speaker 1: some music now. Now, we played a song by the
- 10:08Speaker 1: Traveling wilbury Is and to me, they only made two
- 10:11Speaker 1: really good songs that last week we played the end
- 10:14Speaker 1: of the line for a wheelchair basketball. Sorry, but I've
- 10:18Speaker 1: found another Traveling Wilbury's track which I really like. There
- 10:21Speaker 1: are one of the early supergroups. If you like and
- 10:25Speaker 1: listen to this. This is handle wickt Up and Battle
- 10:37Speaker 1: Around Traveling wilbur Is. Can you name them? Can you
- 10:59Speaker 1: name the Traveling Wilbury Well, I'll tell you what. I
- 11:00Speaker 1: didn't google it, I really didn't, and I reckon it
- 11:04Speaker 1: was like a supergroup really, George Harrison, Roy Orbison, Jeff
- 11:09Speaker 1: Lynn from Elo and Tom Petty from Tom Petty and
- 11:13Speaker 1: the Heartbreakers. So check that one out. If I'm wrong,
- 11:16Speaker 1: then just drop me a little lion, right. Okay, so
- 11:20Speaker 1: this is a real quick fire show today. I'm going
- 11:23Speaker 1: to do a bit of rugby now, folks and Rugby
- 11:25Speaker 1: Club ended the season on a high with the First
- 11:28Speaker 1: Seconds and the Ladies team all winning. The first team
- 11:32Speaker 1: beat Medway sixty eight ten, and the Seconds traveled away
- 11:36Speaker 1: to Medway and won thirty seven to twelve. And the
- 11:40Speaker 1: Ladies in the very last league game of the season
- 11:43Speaker 1: beat the champion seven Oaks by forty points to twenty eight.
- 11:47Speaker 1: Now this was an amazing victory really because it inflicted
- 11:51Speaker 1: them with their firsty feet of the season. Well way
- 11:54Speaker 1: to finish, you know, the Ladies have just got better
- 11:57Speaker 1: and better, as indeed have the first team. They started
- 12:00Speaker 1: off shaky and got better and better. Unfortunately this second team,
- 12:05Speaker 1: well they ended up bombing the league. But this does happen.
- 12:08Speaker 1: You get a good first team and then perhaps you
- 12:10Speaker 1: can't quite get a half decent second team. So the
- 12:13Speaker 1: first team finished fourth, and as I said, the Ladies
- 12:17Speaker 1: finished second in their league. And I've been sort of
- 12:21Speaker 1: texting the Ladies team. I really really want to get
- 12:24Speaker 1: a couple of them in and I'm hoping that they've
- 12:26Speaker 1: responded now and said they'd be in touch. So I'm
- 12:29Speaker 1: hoping that we'll be able to get a couple of
- 12:31Speaker 1: ladies in and tell us all about this season. And
- 12:34Speaker 1: they're just how big folks rugby club is when it
- 12:37Speaker 1: comes to Ladies rugby. Now, I do believe the season
- 12:40Speaker 1: isn't quite over as I'm pretty sure, and I don't
- 12:42Speaker 1: know my facts on this one, I must be honest.
- 12:44Speaker 1: They move into playing some cup games, so as soon
- 12:47Speaker 1: as I find out anything about that, I'll let you
- 12:50Speaker 1: know now. So local cricket season starts in earnest around
- 12:55Speaker 1: the end of April at the beginning of May. I've
- 12:58Speaker 1: had a check out on some of the fixtures, but
- 13:00Speaker 1: they're not out yet. There's a few random friendly fixtures
- 13:04Speaker 1: are going to be played. So when I've collated all
- 13:06Speaker 1: the local fixtures, I will let you know. And as usual,
- 13:10Speaker 1: the teams I'll be covering are a Folks and Cricket Club,
- 13:14Speaker 1: Hawkins Hyde Cricket Club, there is a hythe Green Cricket Club.
- 13:19Speaker 1: There's a Saltwood Cricket Club and a Simpton Park Cricket Club.
- 13:23Speaker 1: And the cricket scene in the Sheppewey era is massive.
- 13:26Speaker 1: There are so many divisions in Kent and it's going
- 13:31Speaker 1: to take me a whole program to explain them to you.
- 13:34Speaker 1: But a bit nearer the season comes along, I will
- 13:37Speaker 1: be if you like, explaining exactly where and where everybody
- 13:41Speaker 1: plays and what sort of status they're at. And I
- 13:45Speaker 1: meantime I learn more music from the nineties nineties five
- 13:49Speaker 1: I have this is super grass and all right, nineteen
- 14:17Speaker 1: ninety five supergrass. All right, okay, time to move on
- 14:26Speaker 1: once again. Now. A couple of weeks ago we had
- 14:30Speaker 1: a brother and two sisters in Martin Chandler and his
- 14:33Speaker 1: two sisters, Angie and Kirsty, and they came in and
- 14:36Speaker 1: told us about how they were going to look forward
- 14:38Speaker 1: to running the London Landmarks Half Marathon. Well it all
- 14:42Speaker 1: happened last Sunday. It looked like it was a fantastically
- 14:45Speaker 1: sunny day up in London, judging by the pictures, and
- 14:48Speaker 1: they all completed it perfectly, all came back in one piece. Now.
- 14:54Speaker 1: They were raising money for Evelina Children's Charities and they
- 14:58Speaker 1: set themselves a target of one thousand and fifty pound
- 15:02Speaker 1: and the last time I looked, they'd raised one thousand,
- 15:05Speaker 1: three hundred and thirty four pound, So well done to
- 15:08Speaker 1: you three. And judging from their pictures actually on the
- 15:13Speaker 1: social media, they had a fantastic day. There's some great
- 15:16Speaker 1: pictures of them running around and there's a sort of
- 15:19Speaker 1: a cheer station where they meet their family, you know,
- 15:22Speaker 1: and it's so if ever you've been to the London
- 15:25Speaker 1: Marathon and you meet someone that's either a family member
- 15:28Speaker 1: or really close for in, it really is uplifting. It
- 15:31Speaker 1: does the runners a world a grid and they are
- 15:34Speaker 1: a shining example actually for someone that, if you like,
- 15:37Speaker 1: steps outside the box and does something. I mean, Martin's
- 15:40Speaker 1: done it before, but the two sisters, Angie and Kirsty
- 15:43Speaker 1: had never run that far before. They trained hard, they
- 15:46Speaker 1: had a great day and I'll bet you they'll be
- 15:48Speaker 1: back right now. Also, the London Landmarks for folks and
- 15:52Speaker 1: running an Athletic Club were Marie Brazier and Joseph Carroll,
- 15:56Speaker 1: but special mention must go to Rob Collier who out
- 15:59Speaker 1: of six hundred twenty seven runners in his age category,
- 16:02Speaker 1: he came first in the age category. That is brilliant,
- 16:05Speaker 1: so well down to you, Rope, don't forget there was
- 16:07Speaker 1: eighteen thousand runners took part. Two South Kent Runners sorry,
- 16:12Speaker 1: two south Kent Harriers runners also took part. Louise Hall
- 16:16Speaker 1: recovering from an injury and was very proud of herself
- 16:19Speaker 1: and Steve Waite loved it. Taken in the sights of
- 16:23Speaker 1: London well and I just turn the page, should probably
- 16:27Speaker 1: hear it. Folks are running and Athletic Club members were
- 16:30Speaker 1: also at the Brighton Marathon. Ramjit Turmain was first home
- 16:34Speaker 1: for the club, followed by Tom aspinall in a pb
- 16:37Speaker 1: time and he raised one thousand pound for the Rising
- 16:40Speaker 1: Sun Charity, a charity for which is striving to end
- 16:45Speaker 1: domestic abuse. Joining Tom were Greg Dixon, Para Gurum, Phil Haynes,
- 16:50Speaker 1: Jason King, Rosie Smison and Rachel Smith and my other
- 16:54Speaker 1: half missus Ferret Sue Elkins. She went up there with
- 16:57Speaker 1: Margaret Whittam to watch and support everybody. They got up
- 17:00Speaker 1: early and they caught They took the car, took the
- 17:03Speaker 1: train and they came back. They were buzzing. They had
- 17:06Speaker 1: a brilliant day and they saw everybody. Meanwhile, in Milan,
- 17:10Speaker 1: Paul Bartley run a PB the PB a sub three
- 17:14Speaker 1: hour marathon and Pam Allen just missed the chance. It
- 17:17Speaker 1: was a second fasted time. She just missed the chance
- 17:19Speaker 1: of going sub four now. Whilst in Milan, Pam's husband
- 17:23Speaker 1: Clive he ran the Milan Nord Park Run, whilst other
- 17:27Speaker 1: runners found a park run at the following venues, the
- 17:30Speaker 1: local ones Ashford and Dover. Somebody went to Newark in Nottinghamshire.
- 17:35Speaker 1: There was runners that went to Brockenhurst in the New Forest,
- 17:38Speaker 1: Dulwich in South East London, South Norwood in London, tour
- 17:43Speaker 1: bay Vellow Park which is down near Torquay, and if
- 17:46Speaker 1: you're doing the eight s head of park runs, Kay
- 17:49Speaker 1: Evans went to Zida Park in Holland. Now once again
- 17:52Speaker 1: I popped along to the Redne Park Junior Park Run
- 17:55Speaker 1: where one hundred and five juniors took part, fourteen first timers,
- 18:00Speaker 1: twenty seven pbs and twenty three volunteers. It was a
- 18:04Speaker 1: happy sad day for one junior, Guy Slingsby, because it
- 18:09Speaker 1: was his last part run as a junior. He's now
- 18:12Speaker 1: turns fifteen and he's class as a senior, so he
- 18:15Speaker 1: can't join in now. Guy has dominated the juniors in
- 18:19Speaker 1: recent times, but he's also won the Senior Park Park
- 18:22Speaker 1: Run in the past and he's a very exciting prospect,
- 18:25Speaker 1: believe me. The volunteers made a special thank you. This
- 18:29Speaker 1: was so funny. Have a look at it on my
- 18:30Speaker 1: Facebook page. They all put on their Guy Slingsby look
- 18:34Speaker 1: like masks and gave him a round of applause and
- 18:38Speaker 1: his fellow runners awarded him a memento. Now, Guy not
- 18:41Speaker 1: only he doesn't only run, you know, but when he finishes,
- 18:45Speaker 1: because he's the first one back, he can often be
- 18:47Speaker 1: seen at the finish line helping out and bringing in
- 18:50Speaker 1: the bar codes and things like that. So I'm hoping
- 18:54Speaker 1: I spoke to his mum and I'm hoping to get
- 18:55Speaker 1: hold of Pat Hannis from the Folks and Running Club
- 19:00Speaker 1: and see if we can get Guy in with his
- 19:02Speaker 1: mum and we do a little special on the folks
- 19:05Speaker 1: and the youth. Because of the track that is getting
- 19:08Speaker 1: bigger and bigger, now this is in the playlist. It's
- 19:11Speaker 1: a song and that came from really made famous by
- 19:16Speaker 1: originally by the Trucks. It came to famous the second
- 19:19Speaker 1: time round in the film Four Weddings and the Funeral.
- 19:22Speaker 1: We're going to play that version, but you know it's
- 19:24Speaker 1: one of those songs that is the cover version better
- 19:26Speaker 1: or is the original bet better. I'll leave it up
- 19:29Speaker 1: to you. They decided this is wet, wet, wet, and
- 19:31Speaker 1: love is all around what their love is all around
- 19:54Speaker 1: from the film Four Weddings and the Funeral. I respect
- 19:58Speaker 1: some of you out they don't even remember the the
- 20:01Speaker 1: show My age now okay, moving on. This time is
- 20:04Speaker 1: focused in in Victor Disability football team under the guidance
- 20:09Speaker 1: of Garret Wilson. Now at the weekend they had a
- 20:11Speaker 1: prestigious fixture against Chelsea Disability Team. But it wasn't a
- 20:15Speaker 1: good start really because there was a bad accident on
- 20:18Speaker 1: the road about half a mile from the training ground
- 20:20Speaker 1: and they had to get off the coach and walk,
- 20:22Speaker 1: so I don't know, you know, they kind of might
- 20:24Speaker 1: have upset them a little bit because they found themselves
- 20:27Speaker 1: behind when the Chelsea broke down the right and saw
- 20:31Speaker 1: Lee end up the end, up end the forward in
- 20:34Speaker 1: the box and Chelsea went one dayl up from the spot.
- 20:37Speaker 1: The second Chelsea goal came when a Brody was out
- 20:40Speaker 1: and muscled down the right and the cross evaded mark
- 20:43Speaker 1: for the forward to score and via the bar. They
- 20:46Speaker 1: hit the bar and then it went in. But a
- 20:48Speaker 1: half time in Victor changed the system a bit and
- 20:51Speaker 1: changed a few players and Troy Harding pulled one back
- 20:55Speaker 1: after receiving the ball on the left, culling at home
- 20:58Speaker 1: past the keeper the corner. Later on and from the cross,
- 21:02Speaker 1: Lee Avery headed in the equalizer. Paul Parker then later
- 21:05Speaker 1: on picked the ball up thirty yards out and he
- 21:07Speaker 1: lofted the ball over the keeper. Troy Harding added a
- 21:11Speaker 1: fourth when he cut inside and fired home and just
- 21:15Speaker 1: passed the keeper's near post. And with five minutes left,
- 21:18Speaker 1: Josh Kendall with a near post he hit one and
- 21:22Speaker 1: he fired in the fifth goal. So the final score
- 21:25Speaker 1: folks in the victor of five Chelsea disability to him two.
- 21:28Speaker 1: So that's a really feather in the cap there. So
- 21:31Speaker 1: why down to Garret thanks for that report, And I
- 21:33Speaker 1: must just tell you that Troy Harding manded the match
- 21:37Speaker 1: there for his two goals. Now there's a little bit
- 21:40Speaker 1: running that I just missed off. It was on another page,
- 21:42Speaker 1: believe it or not about the Brighton and Marathon, because
- 21:46Speaker 1: five South Kent Harriers went to Brighton for the marathon
- 21:49Speaker 1: and all finished successfully. So well dones go to John
- 21:52Speaker 1: Sweeney on his first ever marathon, John and Erica fall
- 21:56Speaker 1: Fortuna for finishing, Kieran Pilcher and Ilian his hell. Now.
- 22:01Speaker 1: John Sweeney said that it was hot and windy which
- 22:03Speaker 1: made running a challenge, but an amazing day, lots of
- 22:06Speaker 1: support and guess what, he wants to go back and
- 22:09Speaker 1: do it again.
- 22:10Speaker 2: Now.
- 22:10Speaker 1: I dug this one out of the playlist because it
- 22:13Speaker 1: did make me chuckle. This one, this one especially, this
- 22:16Speaker 1: song is for Paul Barlet, Catherine O'Connor, Pam and Clive Allen.
- 22:22Speaker 1: They all went to Milan and guess what. They're too
- 22:26Speaker 1: sexy for Milan.
- 22:28Speaker 2: For my love, too sexy for my love, Love's going
- 22:32Speaker 2: to leave. I'm too sexy boy, my shirt too sexy boy,
- 22:47Speaker 2: my shirt so sexy it hurts, And I am too
- 22:52Speaker 2: sexy for Milan. Through sexy for Milane, your gang, I
- 22:59Speaker 2: love Love go on to leave.
- 23:02Speaker 1: To sixty six. Well, that one was. There was for
- 23:07Speaker 1: the four people that spent the weekend in Milan running
- 23:11Speaker 1: around the town. That was for Paul Bartlett, Catherin O'Connor,
- 23:15Speaker 1: Pam mclive Allen and there to sixty four Milan. So okay, right,
- 23:19Speaker 1: that's enough of that. Moving on. Well, on Saturday, after
- 23:23Speaker 1: the show, me and missus Ferret we went down to
- 23:25Speaker 1: the Sunny Sands and to watch the Beach Sprint regatta.
- 23:29Speaker 1: Let me just remind you what the competitors do. They
- 23:33Speaker 1: started the start line, they run fifty yards, jump into
- 23:36Speaker 1: a boat which is being handled and looked after by
- 23:40Speaker 1: two fellow colleagues. They then have to row out to
- 23:47Speaker 1: a boy, a marker boy around the boy come back.
- 23:50Speaker 1: They get out the boat, help to buy the handlers,
- 23:53Speaker 1: then run back up the beach fifty yards to cross
- 23:55Speaker 1: the line. Sounds simple, doesn't it. But when we got
- 23:58Speaker 1: down there, the wind it was blowing and the tide
- 24:01Speaker 1: was like if you're looking out of the Sunny Sands,
- 24:03Speaker 1: it was like the tide was coming in at forty
- 24:06Speaker 1: five degrees with a bit of a swell. Now I'm
- 24:09Speaker 1: sure there's a nautical term for that, but I don't
- 24:12Speaker 1: know it. But it did look a bit choppy now
- 24:15Speaker 1: they started off. I was talking to Sally Watkins actually,
- 24:19Speaker 1: and she told me that the idea was to let
- 24:21Speaker 1: four boats go together. So there was four boats, you know,
- 24:25Speaker 1: like on the sea at the same time. But the
- 24:27Speaker 1: tides were pushing them across and they were bumping into
- 24:30Speaker 1: each other, and there was a rescue boat out there.
- 24:32Speaker 1: But they decided that it was just a bit dangerous.
- 24:35Speaker 1: So the races actually only had two competitors, two A
- 24:39Speaker 1: competitors in easy for you to say, and two competitors
- 24:44Speaker 1: two lanes, which made it for a longer day, but
- 24:47Speaker 1: they did manage to squeeze all the races in. So
- 24:49Speaker 1: it was exciting because the two sprinters. Every time the
- 24:53Speaker 1: two sprinters seemed to get in the boat at the
- 24:55Speaker 1: same time. But that's where it ended. One went one way,
- 24:58Speaker 1: one went the other way. They were fighting the tides
- 25:01Speaker 1: really tough to get around the boy and then when
- 25:04Speaker 1: they came back, they were like struggling to sort of
- 25:06Speaker 1: get in a good position so they didn't have to
- 25:08Speaker 1: run too far up the beach anyway. It was really exciting. Now.
- 25:12Speaker 1: Zoey Mond, who was our guest last week. Week before
- 25:16Speaker 1: Zoe came in and she told us all about it,
- 25:18Speaker 1: and she sent me in this little report. So basically,
- 25:22Speaker 1: on Saturday, Folks and Ryan Club made history hosting the
- 25:25Speaker 1: first ever beach sprint regatta in the Southeast and what
- 25:28Speaker 1: a day it was. With over one hundred competitors from
- 25:31Speaker 1: clubs of Firefield as Dorset, the beach was buzzing with energy,
- 25:35Speaker 1: new boats and plenty of spray. Now the Folks and
- 25:39Speaker 1: Junior Squad were out in force, showing serious potential in
- 25:43Speaker 1: their first taste of beach sprint racing. Brook Leopard, Bethany
- 25:47Speaker 1: Richley and Jasper Smith all rowed with grittin style, whilst
- 25:51Speaker 1: the rest of the squad got stuck in the action
- 25:53Speaker 1: as boat handlers, keeping things running smoothly and showing the
- 25:57Speaker 1: kind of team spirit the boat's well for the future.
- 26:00Speaker 1: Expect big things from this crew. So a special shout
- 26:03Speaker 1: out goes to Maddie Wybrow who stormed to second place,
- 26:06Speaker 1: just behind a gb rower attashed Phillips, a fantastic achievement
- 26:10Speaker 1: in a tough field. The relay team took home to win.
- 26:13Speaker 1: It was by default actually, as they were comfortably in
- 26:17Speaker 1: the lead when the race had to be stopped. Due
- 26:19Speaker 1: to the rising swell, and I'm sure that was just
- 26:22Speaker 1: you know, like for safety. They've got the safety, but
- 26:24Speaker 1: they've got to be looking after their own rowers, haven't they. Now.
- 26:28Speaker 1: This event was masterminded and delivered by the former guests
- 26:31Speaker 1: of the show, Zoeymond and Becky Plestid, whose hard work
- 26:34Speaker 1: and vision brought this incredible day to life. They were
- 26:37Speaker 1: also lucky to have the support and expertise of British
- 26:41Speaker 1: rowings Lucy Hart and Rob Mays, whose presence and coaching
- 26:45Speaker 1: helped highlight just how brilliant this venue and this sport
- 26:48Speaker 1: can be. So there we go, So a new sport
- 26:51Speaker 1: to look out for, and I'm sure it'll be there again.
- 26:54Speaker 1: They got to pick the day. They've got to pick
- 26:56Speaker 1: the day. They've got to check the tides. They can't
- 26:58Speaker 1: really have it in the summer, which is a shame
- 27:00Speaker 1: because the beach will be packed and they I'm sure
- 27:03Speaker 1: they can't like take over the beach for the day.
- 27:06Speaker 1: But they do have their own regatta and I haven't
- 27:10Speaker 1: got the date to hand at the moment, but I
- 27:11Speaker 1: normally pop down there and have a look at the regatta.
- 27:14Speaker 1: So anyway, time for a bit more music, we are
- 27:16Speaker 1: packing it in today and this is Reef and place
- 27:19Speaker 1: your Hands as Reef's there and a song called place
- 27:38Speaker 1: your Hands. Okay, now our last big report coming up
- 27:42Speaker 1: and it's a bit of bulls news actually now Sharon's
- 27:46Speaker 1: Hood from the Sherdon Bowls Club and her partner and
- 27:49Speaker 1: former guests of the show Linda Hardy from the Folkston Club.
- 27:53Speaker 1: Well today this morning, actually I must find out how
- 27:55Speaker 1: they got on. They are playing in the over sixties
- 27:58Speaker 1: indoor pairs another national final. This has taken place also
- 28:02Speaker 1: in Nottingham, funny enough, and now they played against a
- 28:06Speaker 1: team from Stamford and District who come from Lincolnshire. So
- 28:09Speaker 1: good luck to Sharon and Linda that I'll be looking
- 28:12Speaker 1: out for that result and by the way they will be.
- 28:16Speaker 1: What they do today is they're representing Folks and Indoor
- 28:18Speaker 1: Bowls Club after winning the Kent section of this tournament.
- 28:23Speaker 1: So the indoor bowl season has come to an end
- 28:26Speaker 1: and it's finals weekend this weekend at the Indoor Bowls
- 28:28Speaker 1: Club along Sheraton Road. In the morning session, Pinury is
- 28:32Speaker 1: back and listen to this. In the morning session on Saturday,
- 28:35Speaker 1: there are the ladies singles, the men's nominated pairs and
- 28:39Speaker 1: the Men's Double Ring Knockout, all starting at nine thirty.
- 28:43Speaker 1: In the afternoon at two pm it's the Men's singles,
- 28:46Speaker 1: the Men's Club Pairs and the Junior singles. And on
- 28:50Speaker 1: Sunday it's another full day at nine p thirty it's
- 28:53Speaker 1: the good Enough Trophy, the Ladies nominated pairs and the
- 28:57Speaker 1: unbadged singles. It's the Birdies League knockout and this game
- 29:04Speaker 1: is being played between the Jackdaws and the Blue Tits
- 29:07Speaker 1: don't ask me, and the mixed pairs and finally it's
- 29:11Speaker 1: the Ladies Club pairs as well. And so a massive
- 29:15Speaker 1: weekend down there for the Indoor Bowls Club. And so
- 29:17Speaker 1: if you're free Saturday or Sunday, why not pop down
- 29:20Speaker 1: there and have a look. It's at the Focused Indoor
- 29:23Speaker 1: Bowls Club, which is situated between the Folks and in
- 29:25Speaker 1: Victor Ground and Morrison's. You've always driven by it and
- 29:28Speaker 1: thought what is that building there? Well, I tell you
- 29:31Speaker 1: you'll get a surprise if you go in there and
- 29:33Speaker 1: have a little look, and if you can find your
- 29:34Speaker 1: way and watch a little bit of balls, then you
- 29:37Speaker 1: will see it's like the Tardists. It is huge. So
- 29:40Speaker 1: there's easily going to be you know, there's games in
- 29:43Speaker 1: the morning, games in the afternoon. There's easily going to
- 29:45Speaker 1: be three games going on at the same time, with
- 29:47Speaker 1: loads and loads of space to spare. So I just
- 29:51Speaker 1: want to say a big, big thank you there to
- 29:53Speaker 1: your Peter Bamford for the from the Cherit and Bowls Club.
- 29:56Speaker 1: There is my little contact up there and he always
- 29:59Speaker 1: likes to keep me informed, So big thank you to you, Peter.
- 30:02Speaker 1: I wonder happy birthday to Leah actually is daughter Leah.
- 30:05Speaker 1: It was her birthday yesterday. She's another former guest of
- 30:07Speaker 1: the show a long time ago, but she has progressed
- 30:11Speaker 1: so much in her bowls career. Perhaps we get back
- 30:14Speaker 1: in one day and the pair of them that'd be
- 30:16Speaker 1: given it. Okay, So have we got time for any
- 30:19Speaker 1: more music? Yes? I think so. So This one is
- 30:21Speaker 1: from Laura Jones. It's called I Don't Know Why, Folkstone's
- 30:26Speaker 1: community radio station Radio Folkston Radio. Bye, Wait, don't know
- 30:44Speaker 1: why did come? Don't we got a nice gentle song?
- 30:52Speaker 1: Norah Jones. I don't know why I did come? What
- 30:59Speaker 1: it is? Nice gentle song? It's been a Wambam show
- 31:03Speaker 1: this week and I just want to tell you that
- 31:05Speaker 1: next week I'm hoping to get a lady from the
- 31:08Speaker 1: netball Danielle, and she's going to come in and tell
- 31:10Speaker 1: us all about what's going on because they've got a
- 31:12Speaker 1: tournament over Easter. Anyway, that's it from me. This Sunday
- 31:16Speaker 1: I'll be on the mike in Ashford at the Kent
- 31:18Speaker 1: Spring Marathon and Half Marathon. This race raises valuable funds
- 31:22Speaker 1: for the Ashford and tenterd and Samaritans, so a very
- 31:25Speaker 1: worthwhile cause. And good Friday I'll be at the Folks
- 31:29Speaker 1: and Running and Athletics Club ten mile race. So this
- 31:33Speaker 1: can't believe it, it's Easter already. So I see you
- 31:36Speaker 1: Saturday on one oh five point nine FM, online at
- 31:40Speaker 1: Radio Folkston dot com and on your smart speaker
