- 1:54brought down the world after man meets when the whole friend out
- 2:05oh, my way. Yo, what is up?
- 2:40Good morning, Good morning. Happy Sunday morning here in the
- 2:45Big Apple. It's -10 degrees, 1/4 to the
- 2:48weatherman, but other than that, hope everybody had a great
- 2:52weekend. Me and my son did.
- 2:54We're just chilling out. Well, I'm just getting over
- 2:57being sick. He's.
- 2:57Just getting over being sick. I'm just being a lazy person
- 3:01this weekend, but right now we I'm smoking the David Blanco
- 3:05Prince Hall Maduro and he has the.
- 3:09I have the Habano version. So we are going to sit here and
- 3:14talk about let's talk about some wrestling.
- 3:16First, let's talk about Nick Nemeth.
- 3:21What did he showed up in Puerto Rico last night?
- 3:23Showed up in Puerto Rico. What?
- 3:26That's the most wanted free agent, right?
- 3:28Now basically what he is. I mean, the guy was in New
- 3:31Japan. Well, he's.
- 3:33He's not done with Japan. He's not done with TNAI.
- 3:39Don't think right now he's just enjoying the ability to be able
- 3:43to go where he wants. So I was watching a podcast with
- 3:47him the other day and he said he came right out of school and
- 3:53went right to the WWE, he said. And being on the independence,
- 4:00it's giving him like free reign of whatever he wants.
- 4:02It's. Giving him creative freedom is
- 4:04what it is. Right, he said.
- 4:06Not that he didn't like the WWE, he said.
- 4:08But now he picks and chooses where he wants to go and what he
- 4:11wants to do and who he wants to wrestle.
- 4:14But that's the hottest free. Agent going, you know, I mean
- 4:17look at his brother, him and his brother teaming up.
- 4:20I mean, you know, So what do you think of this?
- 4:25So right now you have in the WWE, you have Seth Rollins out.
- 4:32Betsy Lynch just came out with her.
- 4:33Her first children's book, Roman Reigns and The Rock, are going.
- 4:39Out of the well, Roman is going to wind up, I think, giving the
- 4:44title up. But you have Rollins out, you
- 4:48have Cora, Jade out, you have Charlotte out.
- 4:54So far there's no news on Austin Theory from the other night.
- 5:02I mean, there's the the injury bug has plagued them quite a bit
- 5:08over the last month or two, so it'd be interesting to see what
- 5:13they do let. Me introduce my buddy here.
- 5:16So this is my buddy. Check him out.
- 5:19Do we look alike? This is my buddy right here.
- 5:21My brother-in-law gave me this. I had it made in South Carolina
- 5:25for us. For me actually.
- 5:27See the glasses, the cigar, the beard, the hat?
- 5:30It's my brother. So, so now with that being said
- 5:37on on some of the wrestling points, let's talk about
- 5:42football, man. I'll tell you, man, some of
- 5:47these teams just morning, Coop, some of these teams just ain't
- 5:52what they're cut out to be. Oh, and another thing because I
- 5:56forgot about that. He's doing good though.
- 5:58But you know, prayers go out to to pops in the family and
- 6:02everybody. He's doing great, so.
- 6:06Yes, family, yes, all the all the Samoans pops was in a
- 6:13hospital, you know, so you know. Actually, I believe we have one
- 6:19of the family members coming on in April.
- 6:21Yes, we do. So stay tuned for that.
- 6:25That'll be a fun podcast. So I think the 49ers won, yes?
- 6:29They did. And the Reagan's won, so now
- 6:33it's between. The Ravens are actually hosting
- 6:35the the championship game. They beat the Packers, the 49ers
- 6:40and now it's the Buccaneers and the Lions.
- 6:43I'm going to go with the Buccaneers on that.
- 6:45And then you got the Chief and the Bills.
- 6:46I'm going to go with the Bills. Nah, I'd go Chiefs.
- 6:49I think it's going to be. I think this year it's going to
- 6:51be the Chiefs and the Ravens. I don't know, man.
- 6:55Or no, the Chiefs and Oh my God, it's too early for me to do this
- 7:00right now. So I think the Bills are going
- 7:03to win more than. You can't say those words.
- 7:14You know, I'm not going to, I'm not even going to put that
- 7:16comment on the screen. We're just going to let that one
- 7:18go. I don't know.
- 7:22He's got the link. We'll see what happens.
- 7:26So what else? What else we got to?
- 7:29Talk about today. I mean there's there's a lot to.
- 7:32Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice.
- 7:35I mean, I know ISPW just had their show last night in Bark It
- 7:39at the high school. You had, I believe headlining
- 7:44was the now versus sent to Slaughter, which was Dan Moff
- 7:49and Shaun Donovan. Well, don't forget, don't forget
- 7:55May 25th. So that should be interesting.
- 7:58Boss Dog, AKA Big Dog in the wrestling world are going to be
- 8:03down in new. What is it?
- 8:07Brennan, New Bern, NC, making their debut for a new federation
- 8:15and we also are the bookers, so stay tuned for that.
- 8:18We're going to put that up here. That's going to be one of our
- 8:20sponsors next. So you know we want to give a
- 8:23shout out to our sponsors this morning.
- 8:25He's in Miami, him and his wife, they went to a comedy show, had
- 8:29some adult beverages and a couple cigars, CAMF cigars,
- 8:34shout out to them, shout out to Fanatic Cigar House in Lodi, NJ
- 8:38and shout out to JB Cigars and Toms River.
- 8:41So any three of those, if you order from them, tell them
- 8:44turnbuckles and stogie sensor, you get 10% off.
- 8:47So you know we just want to give them a shout out.
- 8:50So now it is now 710. So what else do we got to talk
- 8:56about, son? I mean, like I said there's
- 8:59there's a lot going on to talk about.
- 9:01I mean Will Osprey starts as a a regular for AW on TV next month.
- 9:07It's it's very interesting to see.
- 9:09I know. Well, no, another big free agent
- 9:11from New Japan is Okada, the Rainmaker.
- 9:15So I'll be interested to see where he goes.
- 9:18So far he's been in TNA. I know he's talked about signing
- 9:22with the WWE and possibly, AW, we'll see what happens there.
- 9:28I mean, I know where I'd like to see him.
- 9:32I think now in WWE with Triple H in charge, he would do great.
- 9:37It'll be very interesting to see where that goes.
- 9:39I would love to see him and him and Austin theory go at it.
- 9:43You know, Austin's not I I think you'd have a better shot at.
- 9:48Austin's not on that level. Yet, no, it's not that he's not
- 9:50on that level. If you want to draw that main
- 9:53event style from Japan, you could put him and AJ together in
- 9:57the main event there. You could put him in Nakamura,
- 10:01you could put I I mean, there's there's endless amounts over
- 10:05there, but AW, is everybody he's ever wrestled.
- 10:09In Japan, you have Kenny Omega, Chris Jericho, Jon Moxley, Brian
- 10:16Danielson or Daniel Bryan, whatever his name is.
- 10:20You have Yuda, you have the Bucks, you have.
- 10:24I mean, there's just, there's endless over on both sides of
- 10:27the street. There's endless amounts of
- 10:28possibilities. But Okada said he's a Okada's
- 10:33always talked about wrestling at WrestleMania, so it'll be very
- 10:36interesting to see where this goes.
- 10:40Well, I just think that my brother guy that I trained Eddie
- 10:46Kingston, well deserved, he even bought a new outfit.
- 10:51Guy ain't bought an outfit in 20 years.
- 10:55He bought a new He bought new boots.
- 10:58He bought new singlet. He bought new pants.
- 11:00His gear is also modeled after Kawada.
- 11:03So you know, the guy hasn't bought gear in over 20 years
- 11:09since I've known him. So for him to do that, the man
- 11:12is, well, the man is good right now.
- 11:15WWE has star power going on with everybody.
- 11:18That's made a comeback and they're going to have a hard
- 11:20time with storylines with all of these guys.
- 11:23Correct. Mr. Cooper?
- 11:24Correct. We have a question says right
- 11:29now WWE has too much star power going on with everybody.
- 11:32That's made a comeback. So they're going to have a hard
- 11:35time with storylines with all of these guys.
- 11:38You're correct. You know what?
- 11:39Me being in the wrestling world, when you have too much star
- 11:42power, there is everybody wants to be put over, per SE.
- 11:48Well, me, I I could care less being put over.
- 11:51Just pay me my money. I'll take the fall.
- 11:54I'll, I'll lay on the mat. Look at the stars.
- 11:56It don't matter. But you got to remember now too
- 11:59that they also, they have a lot of star power, but you go into
- 12:05Rumble and Mania season, so it's kind of their their end of the
- 12:09year. So you'll see.
- 12:11You'll see feuds wrap up. You'll see new feud start.
- 12:17Right. And you know, you'll see new
- 12:22feud start, you'll see feuds end.
- 12:25Some feuds might go all the way to the chamber.
- 12:28We'll see. I mean it's it's very
- 12:29interesting. So it is 7:15.
- 12:33We are here, Boss Dog. The Vanilla gorilla.
- 12:37Yes, Sir. So on that note, we are going to
- 12:41go and take a commercial break and say hi to our our, our
- 12:45people and then we'll come back and we will have the man
- 12:48himself, Mr. David Blanco of Blanco Cigars.
- 17:10So we are now back here. Turnbuckles and stogies on
- 17:14Sunday morning on Roku TV on the Northeast Streaming Podcast
- 17:20Network on Roku TV. Check us out.
- 17:22You can watch all our episodes from now until doomsday.
- 17:27So now we are going to bring in our special guest today.
- 17:31Because it's time. Mr. Mr. David Blanco himself.
- 17:35It's time for the interview of. An interview of the Week.
- 17:45Good morning, David. How are you?
- 17:47Good morning, Sir. Good morning.
- 17:49This is, for the record, the earliest interview I have ever

- 17:58You. Blanco, We appreciate that, Sir.
- 18:00You're. Welcome.
- 18:01You're welcome. Thank you for when we when we

- 18:10to us and wanting to come on. That means a lot.
- 18:14And you know so. Just so everybody can see that's
- 18:18that's that's the lighter. And this is the the Maduro.
- 18:22You have. We got to be.
- 18:25We got to be careful what we show.
- 18:26I forgot we're on TikTok. 'Cause we're on TikTok too, so
- 18:28TikTok. You can't.
- 18:29You got to. You got to do this.
- 18:31Yeah. Oh, can't smoke.
- 18:33That's one of the things you're violating the community
- 18:36standards of your smoke. I I guess so, yeah.
- 18:38Meanwhile, you can show boobs and butts.
- 18:41TikTok is Tik Tok's a little more.
- 18:45So, David, again, thanks for coming on.
- 18:49Yes. Pleasure's fine, guys.
- 18:52Pleasure to be here. Nice to talk to you.
- 18:56God, no. That's it.
- 18:59So what made you get into cigars and become this big?
- 19:08And I want to say conglomerate, but as big as you are in the
- 19:12cigar world. OK, so interesting story and we
- 19:19got some time. I don't know how much time we
- 19:20have. By the way, how much time do we
- 19:21have? You got about 40 minutes.
- 19:25OK. All right.
- 19:27I'll make it the abridged version.
- 19:28I'll condense 5 generations of information into a shorter time
- 19:33than that. We, my family, my family's been
- 19:36in the industry since 1886. Wow.
- 19:40The family came from Spain to Cuba and started growing tobacco
- 19:45there. And the Vuelta Bajo, which is
- 19:47the Pinar Del Rio area where all of the Cuban tobacco is going
- 19:50even to today. And like most other Cuban
- 19:55families, we lost everything in the revolution.
- 19:59My family actually took part in the revolution, but then was
- 20:03betrayed like everybody else was by Castro and had to flee, and
- 20:11my family escaped. In 196162 to the United States
- 20:18with the clothes on their back and all of the businesses and
- 20:22everything else were lost. Everything was nationalized.
- 20:25Cuba owns everything to this day, everybody's businesses
- 20:29pretty much. So I was born here in the United
- 20:33States. I was the first one of my family
- 20:34born here and I was born in Chicago, which is why you
- 20:38probably hear the accent. And as I became, you know, older
- 20:43in age and became an adult, I was always aware of the family's
- 20:48legacy of the cigar business that they had in in Cuba.
- 20:53And, you know, I was told the, you know, the full length story
- 20:58as I became a little older. And my father handed me a cigar
- 21:01and said, let me tell you, you know, you know, the coming of
- 21:04age story when you guys are father and son, right Hand your
- 21:07son a cigar and you, you know, tell him about life.
- 21:10And my story was here, here's a cigar.
- 21:13Let me tell you about what cigars are to our family and
- 21:16what they mean. And I got the whole legacy
- 21:17story. And so I was a young man smoking
- 21:21cigars and I always had this, you know, this thought of what
- 21:25the family business must have been like and what it was like
- 21:28and generations forged. My father was the 4th generation
- 21:31in the business, you know, and lost.
- 21:35It was lost. So in the 90s, as I hit my 20s
- 21:40and I was the only guy at my age smoking, right young, 20, in my
- 21:4420s, in the 90s, early 90s. I was like that now.
- 21:48I was the only guy smoking cigars in my at 1819 years old
- 21:52and you know, nobody else. Everybody else was doing all
- 21:57kinds of other stuff. I'm.
- 21:58Smoking cigars. I want you to ask him what was
- 22:01the first cigar he smoked at 18? So I'll So the first cigar at 18
- 22:05that I smoked was the Acid Blondie.
- 22:07I was going to say Cuba, Cuba or Blondie, which no, it was.
- 22:11It was a Blondie. I haven't.
- 22:13I've heard now, I've heard that the the Cuba, Cuba is pretty
- 22:17good. I've heard that.
- 22:18If you like that kind of thing, yeah, it's very popular.
- 22:21People that that smoke it I I've, I haven't ventured back
- 22:25into that line yet there's there's been a few that oh
- 22:33that's that is actually. That is our producer.
- 22:36One of the people from the network on Roku.
- 22:40OK. Thank you.
- 22:41Thank you for having us Linda. We're glad we can start the day
- 22:44off this story for. Back in the 90s you were smoking
- 22:46when? Everybody playing games.
- 22:49So here's how it changed a little bit from what your his
- 22:52story is to My story is that back then nobody was really
- 22:55smoking cigars until 92 Ish. And it was the advent of Cigar
- 23:01Aficionado magazine. And so suddenly everybody
- 23:05started, all my friends suddenly started coming to me because I
- 23:08was the only guy they knew that smoked cigars.
- 23:11So they wanted to be part of the cool guy thing, right?
- 23:13So is hey, how do you cut a cigar?
- 23:15How do you light a cigar? What's a good cigar?
- 23:17Go, let's go ask Dave. So I I became the subject matter
- 23:23expert for everybody. Anything cigar.
- 23:27And so it became a very faddish thing.
- 23:29Everybody smoking the magazine created this lifestyle thing.
- 23:33Cigar shops even started changing and developing into
- 23:37lounges as we know them today, because cigar shops back then
- 23:40used to be a place where you bought a cigar and left.
- 23:42And left correct. That was it.
- 23:44It was like a bodega or something like that, right?
- 23:46It was a bodega. Yeah, when you get when you get
- 23:49your your Lucy's for like $0.05 apiece.
- 23:52Now because of the the popularity as because of the
- 23:55magazine, which I got to give him credit, Marvin Schenken, the
- 24:00guy who created Cigar Aficionado and Wine Spectator and a few
- 24:03other things. Because of that, the industry
- 24:07started changing and adapting and evolving into places to
- 24:10smoke. So moving right along, they're
- 24:13like, hey Dave, we don't know anything about cigars.
- 24:15What's a good cigar? What are you smoking?
- 24:16Can I get one of what you're smoking?
- 24:18And I was getting cigars from my family and I was like, sure,
- 24:21here I have a cigar. And then it was, hey, can I get
- 24:24another one? OK, here you have another cigar.
- 24:27And then it was. Can I get it, you know?
- 24:30How do I get some more from you? Can I?
- 24:32You got bundles? Can I get a bundle?
- 24:34I'm like, whoa, whoa, whoa, these are my purse.
- 24:35Like, whoa, let me, let me. This is my own personal let.
- 24:39Me start charging you for the bundles.
- 24:42That's what I started scratching my head, going.
- 24:44I think there's a business here. So I approached my father and my
- 24:49uncle and I said, you know what, I think there might be a way for
- 24:54for us to get back into the cigar business so that I can
- 24:58continue the family legacy. And we had, they said bring us a
- 25:04plan and a model and see if you really want to do this, give us
- 25:07more information or create a business plan, blah blah.
- 25:09I said, OK, I can't do this by myself, but if you might, you
- 25:13know, my father and my uncle, brothers, they were brothers.
- 25:16You know, we've come my partners, we can do this.
- 25:19We can open a factory and create cigars again.
- 25:24My uncle was a retired Vietnam veteran at the time.
- 25:27He had done 20 years of service and so he was already retired.
- 25:32And my father and I were still working in Chicago.
- 25:34My uncle was down here in the in the Tampa Bay area.
- 25:37Very nice. So they said if you invest
- 25:41everything you own, we'll do it. It was a it was a test, right?
- 25:45To make sure that I was really in this, because you got to
- 25:48remember, how old are you, by the way?
- 25:5025 going to be 26. OK.
- 25:52I was 25. I was 25 S, 25 years old.
- 25:57They wanted to make sure that I was serious and they said if you
- 25:59invest everything you own, we'll be a partner.
- 26:03But OK, I'm all in, Put it all in.
- 26:06And we opened up the factory. Ybor City.
- 26:08My uncle ran the day-to-day operation.
- 26:11I was in charge of design, marketing, blending the cigars
- 26:16because I I was the one that was going to sell them.
- 26:19My uncle was then going to run the day-to-day operation, but I
- 26:22was the one that had to put things together as to what I
- 26:24wanted the cigars to be. My father had ran administrative
- 26:27issues and everything else. So boom, 1998 is actually when
- 26:31we opened the doors we had done 95 research. 9697 I was still
- 26:37messing around trying to figure things out and then 98 we opened
- 26:40the doors in Ybor City. That lasted 2 years.
- 26:44The reason it lasted 2 years is my uncle Francisco, he did 20
- 26:49years of service in in the military but it when as a young
- 26:53man he was exposed to Agent Orange in Vietnam.
- 26:55Very low dosage. We want to, we want to thank
- 26:58your uncle for his service, bro. You know, like like my dad, my
- 27:02uncle, my brother, my cousin. Listen, without them guys, man,
- 27:06listen, we wouldn't be safe where we are today, man.
- 27:08Because, you know, a lot of people listen.
- 27:11A lot of people don't think enough to our service men and
- 27:16women, and I want to thank your uncle and everybody for their
- 27:20services here in the Army, the Marine Corps, the Air Force, the
- 27:25National Guard, whatever. You're in the Coast Guard,
- 27:27whatever, so. OK, cool.
- 27:31Yeah. Yeah.
- 27:32So it turns out that as he got older, which was around that
- 27:36time, it's did start affecting his central nervous system.
- 27:39He was diagnosed with Ms. and ended up in a wheelchair.
- 27:42He couldn't. He was because he was numbness
- 27:44in his legs. He's like, what the Hell's
- 27:45wrong? They couldn't figure it out and
- 27:47that's what they attributed it to.
- 27:48And it came on like that. And so he ended up in a
- 27:51wheelchair and he couldn't run the factory anymore.
- 27:54So we were like, what are we going to do?
- 27:55Well, we called our cousins up who are in Nicaragua and asked
- 28:00them if we could shift production over to their
- 28:02facility in 2000. And they said, absolutely, come
- 28:04on now, this is very early days of, you know, there weren't a
- 28:07lot of boutiques like we have all over the place and different
- 28:10brands. So they said, yeah, absolutely
- 28:13come on down. So we moved.
- 28:14We're buying material from them anyway and assembling it here in
- 28:17the United States. We have some cousins that had
- 28:18come over from Cuba that were rollers.
- 28:20So we're employing them here. So that entire thing shifted to
- 28:24the Nicaragua operation in Estelit in 2000.
- 28:27So there weren't too many guys like that looked like me.
- 28:30And although I'm Cuban, I'm, I'm very Anglo.
- 28:34Look, you look white. I'm not doing funny look white.
- 28:37Well, it matches my name, so that's how that works.
- 28:40So, so Dave, let me ask you this question And and it was brought
- 28:44to me by like several people at different lounges.
- 28:47So are you related to Placentia cigars?
- 28:51So when I was when when we moved to Nicaragua and that family
- 28:55location, that family factory that we asked our family if we
- 29:00could produce it, it's the Placentius Nestor and Nestor
- 29:05senior and my father, that's the phone call that was made because
- 29:09they're cousins. And so yes, we're cousins with
- 29:14the Placentias. Now.
- 29:16I didn't grow up with the Placentias because again they
- 29:19had a similar story as we losing everything and then fled the
- 29:23country. But they didn't come to the
- 29:25United States. They went directly to Nicaragua
- 29:27because they needed to continue growing material.
- 29:30My family, we we lost all of that and just fled.
- 29:34So we didn't grow up, but cigars brought us back together.
- 29:40You know, we lost a generation of familiarity there, of growing
- 29:44up together and and familiarity there.
- 29:46But yeah, so I it brought me back to family heritage that
- 29:53otherwise would have been lost, that I would, you know, like all
- 29:56Cuban stories also, so many families were torn apart never
- 30:00to see each other again. This was our way for us to come
- 30:03back. So yes, all of our cigars to
- 30:05this day are made at the Placencia factory.
- 30:09I've been working there since 2000.
- 30:12And so if I had to have a term other than, you know, Blanco
- 30:18cigars with my, my, I'm actually considered a blender in
- 30:22residency there. So a master blender at the
- 30:25Placencia factory in residency in residence, right.
- 30:29So because it's not my factory, it's their factory and and so
- 30:34I've been working there blending.
- 30:36We have six different brands that we own to now.
- 30:39So our portfolio has developed and I've heard for about 12
- 30:43other companies. So yeah all around the world
- 30:47we're in 30 plus countries right now Europe, Canada, Asia, Africa
- 30:58Middle East. So yeah we're we continue to
- 31:02grow I mean by no means am IA huge you use the word
- 31:06conglomerate. I'll never be that There's never
- 31:09going to be there's never going to be publicly traded shares and
- 31:14corporate mentality here. This will always be a family
- 31:16business, which is why I brought it back to life because I I
- 31:19didn't want the family's legacy to die like that.
- 31:23Too many years. I think of over all in over 100
- 31:25years of people in our family working in cigars to just let it
- 31:30die. With my father, I felt I had an
- 31:32obligation and this is where service comes in.
- 31:36I get that obligation from service.
- 31:38I also served in the military. I have about 3232 plus years in
- 31:44the military. My my father has also done 40
- 31:48plus years in the military. So Dave, on that note, we're
- 31:54going to pay tribute to our, our, our commercials and we'll
- 31:59be back with you and hold that door.
- 34:59All right guys. And we are back, back from our
- 35:02quick commercial break. We're here with the man himself,
- 35:05Mr. David Blanco, owner of Blanco Cigars, been in the
- 35:10business. For 100 years.
- 35:13Generations, the family. So let's let's talk about, let's
- 35:18talk about this, this little beauty right here.
- 35:22I'm happy. To I'm happy to give me one
- 35:24second. I'm digesting what I was just
- 35:26watching there. That video, that music video.
- 35:30Who is that? That is Mitch Russell.
- 35:35It's called the Soldiers Memoir. That is, shout out to our
- 35:38producer A that. Comes from the radio station
- 35:43that we're a part of, MBR radio, military brand radio.
- 35:48I I believe that's one of their followers.
- 35:52Or maybe maybe H can jump on and tell us who that is.
- 35:55I don't know. H Jump on and tell us who.
- 35:57It is just just curious 'cause I was a little close to home for
- 36:02me at I, so I'm I'm that was mentioning it to you guys.
- 36:07I have over 3 decades of service.
- 36:10I was Army Special Operations for 16 of those 32 years and
- 36:15watching that video was kind of like out of nowhere for me.
- 36:18I was kind of very reminiscent of.
- 36:21He's a he's a veteran music artist.
- 36:25His name is Mitch Russell. I almost brought my helmet out
- 36:28and put it on when the thing back came back out.
- 36:32So David, so let me ask you this.
- 36:34So you know I follow you on Instagram and all that other
- 36:38stuff and I see you do the Blanco Blanco tours.
- 36:45Give us a little insight on the Blanco tours, what that consists
- 36:49of and how we can go back. Well, I'm glad you brought that
- 36:53up because I was probably going to mention it because I have 4
- 36:55slots available for my next tour.
- 36:57We only take 10 people at a time.
- 37:00I have 4 openings. It's a five day, four night all
- 37:03inclusive tour to Nicaragua. It is $1500 all inclusive for on
- 37:08the ground. That doesn't include your
- 37:10airfare, but you can get down there for 500 bucks or less.
- 37:13So it's about two grand if you add it all up or less.
- 37:15Is that now that's per person, right?
- 37:17Correct. That includes everything,
- 37:19though. Hotel, transportation, food,
- 37:21beverage, with meals, cigars. You get about $450 worth of
- 37:25cigars alone. I am.
- 37:29I'm not trying to brag or have a big head about this, but I am
- 37:34the only one that does a tour like this in the entire
- 37:37industry. Not that anybody else couldn't
- 37:39do it, but they just don't. Predomo does tours and Rocky
- 37:43does tours and Drew State does tours and there are a lot of
- 37:47companies that do tours. I'm the only one that tours
- 37:50showing the entire country. I I love to show Nicaragua and
- 37:54the people and the culture and where you got.
- 37:57Money. Where your money goes from your
- 38:01side all the way to the other side, where people are living.
- 38:03At. So it's not we take you to the
- 38:06factory, we take you to the farm, and we take you back to
- 38:08the airport. We stay in Granada for an
- 38:11evening and we do boat tour. And we show you the oldest
- 38:14colonial city in Central America where Captain Morgan in the
- 38:17Pirates is staying out. Then we go to, then we go to
- 38:20Estelle and we do everything. Cigar.
- 38:22We stay in a boutique hotels with three different hotels.
- 38:27We go in the mountains. We've done volcano surfing in
- 38:30the past. We've done horseback riding.
- 38:32We've done. I'll show you the time.
- 38:34We go to the markets. I want to immerse you in the
- 38:36culture. We eat at local restaurants and
- 38:39diners and stuff like that and bars and clubs like nightlife.
- 38:43We participate and then we take you to, you know, some of the
- 38:47mountainous areas and you know, see waterfalls and and then we
- 38:51go down to the beach and we stay at night in the Pacific Ocean.
- 38:55We have another hotel. We stay over there and then we
- 38:58go to Lyon. Lyon City is one of the oldest
- 39:01cities in Central America as well.
- 39:03It used to be the former capital of of Nicaragua when the
- 39:05Spaniards had it as a colony before it moved to Managua.
- 39:09And so there's a lot of history to see that we've done the floor
- 39:11of the Kanye factory tour, which is the national realm of
- 39:14Nicaragua. We've done factory tours there.
- 39:15So I mean, we do all kinds of stuff, boat rides and stuff like
- 39:19that and nobody, nobody's doing that.
- 39:23I kind of, I wish he wasn't dead.
- 39:25But if you guys remember Anthony Bourdain, great show.
- 39:28I don't know if you ever watched this show.
- 39:31I I'm like the Anthony Bourdain of the cigar business with
- 39:34regard to the tours because I I take you all around.
- 39:37So, I mean, you have cigars all the time, but it's not just
- 39:40about cigars. It's about the people.
- 39:41It's about the the scenery, about the culture.
- 39:44It's about the food. It's about all of it.
- 39:46I'm just going to say about learning about the the place
- 39:50itself. Yeah, absolutely.
- 39:51And nobody does this. I don't know why, but most of
- 39:55their tours are three days because they take you to the
- 39:57farms one day, they take you to the factories one day and they
- 39:59throw some food in you and make sure you drink a lot and take
- 40:01you back to the airport. We do five days, four nights,
- 40:04all inclusive. So that's where the money is and
- 40:07it's a it's a deal. I give the bargains to the
- 40:10people with regard to the cost because I get deals with regard
- 40:13to the people I work with. So I go to certain hotels,
- 40:16certain restaurants, and because I bring groups and everything,
- 40:18they give me discounted breaks on prices.
- 40:20So I pass that along to you guys.
- 40:22If anybody was to do this tour on their own, it'd be like 2530
- 40:26to three $3000. So, right.
- 40:28So now what's the dates that you have available for everybody
- 40:34that's watching? So I.
- 40:35Have one tour this year left with four seats and it's the 5th
- 40:39of March. You would leave the United
- 40:42States to head to to Nicaragua and you would return on the 9th.
- 40:46So it's the 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, 5 days, four nights.
- 40:51All you got to do is get to Managua Airport, we pick you up
- 40:53and the rest is all on us and you just enjoy yourself.
- 40:56That's really much. That's pretty much what it is.
- 40:59So real. Time.
- 41:01If you're interested in contacting us to to do that, you
- 41:05can go ahead and get a hold of us.
- 41:07You can get sent us an e-mail, send us your name obviously, and
- 41:10a good phone number that we can reach you and call back in case
- 41:13we have to talk about any information.
- 41:15You do need a passport for this of course.
- 41:18I can always caveat that because I've had people say but I don't
- 41:20have a passport. Well, it's getting kind of
- 41:22tight. I'm.
- 41:23Sorry. So the e-mail would be customer
- 41:26service at Blanco cigars.com, Customer service at Blanco like
- 41:32my last name cigarscigars.com. That's it.
- 41:37Well I can't pin it up here, but when I when I post this, I'll
- 41:40make sure I post up the the link.
- 41:42And. The, the, the e-mail with it and
- 41:45I'll make sure we put it out there for everybody.
- 41:47Here's here's here's my thing so I'm smoking your Maduro Prince
- 41:53hall. So the Prince Hall shout out to
- 41:59all us Masons I'm traveling. So how did you come up with
- 42:04Prince Hall? So for a number of years, first
- 42:10of all, I'm a Master Mason. I'm also a fifth generation
- 42:13Master Mason. My family, we're Masons in Cuba.
- 42:16Wow. That's how long this goes back.
- 42:18Yeah. And I'm also a Shriner.
- 42:21My father's a Shriner. Yeah.
- 42:24My, my grandfather was a 33rd degree honorary, of course.
- 42:29And so masonry was heavy in our family.
- 42:32I was actually contacted years ago by another Mason up north in
- 42:39New Jersey in your neck of the woods that basically smoked
- 42:46cigars in his lodge with his buddies.
- 42:47And he was gas station and quickie Mart owner and was like,
- 42:51man, it'd be great to make a Masonic cigar.
- 42:54And so he contacted me for some help because, you know, he's
- 42:59like Dave. I love cigars, but I don't know
- 43:01anything about cigars. I'd like to do this is this is
- 43:04what I'd like to do and you're a Mason brother to could you help
- 43:07me? So I did.
- 43:10I did that for about 6 1/2 years and built this Masonic brand
- 43:13called Ironman Salon. With regard to all the blending,
- 43:19I was I. Was just going to say that.
- 43:22So I was just going to say, you know, there's another brand out.
- 43:26That I'm the man. I'm the man behind the curtain,
- 43:28as they say. There he.
- 43:30Was Jersey great cigars by the way.
- 43:34I love those cigars. We.
- 43:35Went no more me. I don't do them anymore.
- 43:37So. Yeah, we went to the Legends
- 43:39Lounge and it's hired when Salomon and when we went there,
- 43:44you know, I'm like that was. About four or five years ago.
- 43:46Yeah. So I'm like your basin.
- 43:49He goes, well, I said you're traveling and he couldn't answer
- 43:52it. And I'm like.
- 43:55If it was just a random guy behind the counter, it wasn't.
- 43:57Actually. OK, it was just it wasn't the
- 44:00owner is what you're. Saying no, no, no.
- 44:01It was just one of his, one of his guys.
- 44:03OK, so there were two guys, there were two partners and one
- 44:07of them is but no longer part of the company.
- 44:11I am no longer working with with them.
- 44:14I stopped about two years ago. Now I think I'm.
- 44:18So you you would have been making them when I first started
- 44:20finding them and smoking them? Probably, probably.
- 44:23So again it was one of those issues of you know help us out.
- 44:28And so as a Masonic brother, I try, I I did with my best and
- 44:32you can see the fruits of that labor and how that brand grew.
- 44:37Things happen in business and sometimes.
- 44:39I will work out for a certain. While And then they don't.
- 44:42And then we we split up. But I wanted to honor Prince
- 44:47Hall. And for those that don't know
- 44:49who Prince Hall is, I I see him as one of the founding fathers
- 44:54of our country that has been lost to history.
- 44:58He was, for those of you don't don't know, he was a gentleman
- 45:01that lived in Boston in the colonial period.
- 45:05He was a business owner. He was thought to be one of the
- 45:08first men to join the Continental Army in fighting the
- 45:10Revolutionary War. So he's an original Army
- 45:13veteran. And for all these things, I felt
- 45:15his story was something to be told.
- 45:18Now what anybody ever remembers him for only is if they do know
- 45:21him is masonry. But the reality is, is that all
- 45:24of those things, he went to joint masonry and he was denied.
- 45:28And the reason he was denied, for those of you who are
- 45:30watching it, don't know anything about who we're talking about.
- 45:32The reason he was denied is because he was black.
- 45:36So yes, there were free black men, business owners living in
- 45:39Boston during the Colonial period.
- 45:42Yeah, rare. Very rare.
- 45:44But yes, it is very rare, but it seems the thing.
- 45:47Yeah. And he was fighting for equal
- 45:49rights and education of of of blacks at the time, which was
- 45:53like 80 to 100 years before the Civil War.
- 45:56This guy was way before his time.
- 45:58He found a way to become a Mason and then ended up becoming the
- 46:02founding father of African American masonry in the United
- 46:05States as we know it today. And that was done.
- 46:07And as you can see on the band, there's a number that says 1787
- 46:13around the side. If your band is a small, yeah,
- 46:151780. There you go.
- 46:17He's 87. There you go.
- 46:19Perfect. That was the year that the he
- 46:21was actually allowed to open up his own lodge.
- 46:25And they had to pick a name because there were the other
- 46:28Masons, you know, the Washingtons and Jeffersons and
- 46:30all these guys. They were free and accepted
- 46:32Masons. Well, they had to come up with a
- 46:33name, so they took his name. They renamed the lodge African
- 46:36Lodge #1, and they became known as Prince Hall Masons.
- 46:41To this day, they're called Prince Hall Masons.
- 46:43So this was my homage to that man's legacy.
- 46:46If anybody ever wants to go find out more about Prince Hall
- 46:49masonry, now you can't. You can be white, black,
- 46:52Hispanic and join Prince Hall masonry today as well as free
- 46:56and accepted masonry. We are together today with
- 46:59regard to, we recognize each other.
- 47:01There's, you know, we all believe in the same things.
- 47:04But he's buried on in the on top of the hill in the North End of
- 47:09Boston in the old cemetery. I mean we're talking five blocks
- 47:12from Paul Revere's house. He was.
- 47:14That's the time period he lived in.
- 47:16That's where he lived. So he contributed mightily to
- 47:20the founding of our country and his story deserved to be told.
- 47:24And I was lucky enough through my art, which is my blending and
- 47:28my cigars to be able to to do that.
- 47:31So that's why we we created the Prince Hall cigar.
- 47:34OK, now I I did notice 'cause I was reading the the little
- 47:38pamphlet you sent with with these What made you do boxes of
- 47:4350? So I'm also a smoker.
- 47:48I think that's. Kind of.
- 47:49That's kind of unheard of in the in the industry, yeah.
- 47:52Well, there's a few people that do it.
- 47:53There's a few. There's a there's a few people
- 47:55who do boxes of 100, believe it or not.
- 47:59So the reason I did that is because I'm a smoker and a
- 48:01consumer as well as a cigar maker.
- 48:04So the the reasoning behind that for me was easy.
- 48:08It's economics. So for me to be able to bring
- 48:11this cigar to you as an MSRP as a retail price of in Robusto,
- 48:17which we call the square or square, this is a retail price.
- 48:21Of course every state is different with your tobacco.
- 48:23So take into consideration, right in the Robusto size, it's
- 48:288:00-ish eight in change, in the Toro size it's nine in change,
- 48:32in the 6 by 60, it's 1211 in change and the 7 by 70 is 14
- 48:38ish. The reason?
- 48:39Those prices. Exist.
- 48:41It's like 10 twelve 1520 bucks. Where's that?
- 48:47Up here in New York. Yeah.
- 48:48Oh, yeah. Because of the tax.
- 48:49Yeah. So imagine what it would be.
- 48:51All right. So here's why there are those
- 48:53prices. There are those prices because I
- 48:54don't have to create as many boxes and and all the packaging
- 48:57for. So if I could put 50 cigars in
- 48:59one box rather than 20, I don't have to create as much as many
- 49:03boxes, as much packaging. And it keeps the cost down,
- 49:06which means I can do not have to charge as much for these cigars
- 49:10to make it more affordable. So for me it was about
- 49:13affordability and the only way I could do that was to minimize
- 49:19packaging. And by by that I mean make
- 49:21bigger boxes to put more cigars rather than.
- 49:25So for every one box I make, I don't have to make 2 1/2 boxes
- 49:29that would drive up the cost. This cigar would be more
- 49:31expensive and I didn't want to do that, so I wanted to be as
- 49:34affordable as possible. So it was a simple economics.
- 49:36And I'm a smoker myself, so I appreciate, you know, value in a
- 49:40cigar. It's very absolutely so.
- 49:43Absolutely. Now now I will say I did have
- 49:48one of your cigars once before and that I got it from the the
- 49:52smoking cigar, the month club, the Blanco #9.
- 49:56Oh, good cigar. That was, that was, yeah that
- 49:59was one of my cigar, my first ventures into your, your brand
- 50:05specifically and that had to be probably three or four years
- 50:09ago. Yeah, yeah.
- 50:12We don't. I don't do business with smoke
- 50:14in anymore. OK.
- 50:17So yeah. It's going to be around that
- 50:19time. Yeah, it was.
- 50:21It was a great cigar though. I loved it.
- 50:23Thank you. It was.
- 50:24It was actually. It was actually a #1 rated Cigar
- 50:26of the Year in 2018 on our as voted by consumers, which means
- 50:31a lot to me. When you get a #1 rated cigar
- 50:33and it's voted by consumers over the world, that's a much more
- 50:38important issue to me than one or two guys that own a magazine.
- 50:40You know, 'cause that's how that goes.
- 50:43But I also got a 95 in CAA, 93 in Smoke Magazine, a 90 in Cigar
- 50:48Snob, Best Buy in Cigar Journal. So we've done very well.
- 50:51It's my highest rated cigar. That cigar is a Dark Corojo
- 50:55rapper, AAA Hero in the filler early prime in the Hero.
- 50:58So it's not AS I punch you in the mouth, but it's it's three
- 51:01quarter body. That's that Lee Herro is is
- 51:04right up my my alley. The the company that I I used to
- 51:08work for who's the guy's still a good friend of mine.
- 51:11He actually made a cigar for somebody that was an all Lee
- 51:14Herro cigar. And he was like, he said he
- 51:19goes, oh man, he goes, I don't smoke it.
- 51:21I'm like, he goes, oh, it's too strong for you.
- 51:23I'm like, are you kidding me bro?
- 51:25I'm like, I was like, dude, he might just send them to me.
- 51:28He goes, you like that? I'm like, bro, I smoked that for
- 51:30breakfast. I would, I would get on and I'd
- 51:34get up in the morning. He goes, what are you smoking
- 51:35today? I'm like, what do you think?
- 51:36I'm smoking? And I do the video and I'm like,
- 51:39Oh yeah, it's an Ollie hair. He goes, dude, how do you smoke
- 51:41that first thing in the morning? I said You got to be used to
- 51:44that really strong punch. It depends on what you like.
- 51:47So we. That's all.
- 51:49By the way, it's all Nicaraguan tobacco.
- 51:51It's a Nicaraguan poodle, all plus tobacco as well.
- 51:55We do have a limited edition version of that cigar.
- 51:57It's called the Blanco 9JT Limitato.
- 52:00And that cigar is all Lahiro I'm.
- 52:04Gonna have to look for that. Six different lahiros.
- 52:06It takes me two years to make it because.
- 52:09And here's why I say that is because first fermentation time
- 52:15is is extremely long. It's almost two years to ferment
- 52:18all the six different lahiros to get it to burn correctly because
- 52:22Lahiro has a very poor combustion rate.
- 52:25So unless we ferment it completely and totally which
- 52:28takes that amount of time, it'll canoe and and all kinds of burn
- 52:32problems and everything. So we've figured out the time it
- 52:35takes about two years. The other issue is, is that we
- 52:37don't, it's limited because we can only make as much of it as
- 52:41we have wrapper for. And the reason it's very limited
- 52:44with wrapper is because la Hero isn't generally used as wrapper.
- 52:48So as a result we have to look through the yield of the crop
- 52:53and you know we look through 800 lbs of material, maybe we find
- 52:5620 lbs that are wrapper grade. So we can only make as much of
- 53:00that cigar as we have wrapper for.
- 53:03So I only make it in one size 6 1/4 by 58.
- 53:06I would make them in boxes at 10.
- 53:08That cigar is much more expensive because of the time it
- 53:11takes. It's about retails for about 18
- 53:13and change. But for a cigar like that, if
- 53:17that's what you like and you like to smoke that like me, I
- 53:20wouldn't mind paying that kind of price for that because I know
- 53:23I'm going to enjoy it, Yeah. And it's a long smoke.
- 53:25It burns very slowly because of the hero.
- 53:27Like I said, the combustion rate is much slower, so it's
- 53:30definitely a long smoke. For the size of cigar it is.
- 53:33You get your money into that one.
- 53:35Absolutely. But yeah, I'm glad you like the
- 53:38nine. That is definitely my my
- 53:40heaviest hitter. I own 6 brands.
- 53:41As I mentioned, the Blanco Nine is 1 Ligas.
- 53:44Kusiva is another. It comes in a Connecticut shade
- 53:46and a Pennsylvania Broadleaf Maduro.
- 53:48That record use from them is grown by the Amish in Lancaster,
- 53:51PA, all Nicaraguan. So that was I got a #2 rated
- 53:55cigar the year with that. So I got a number one with the 9
- 53:57and #2 with that one. Another brand I own is called
- 54:00Primos Estate Selection. Primos was rated one of the best
- 54:03value cigars of the year in Cigar Aficionado when we brought
- 54:05it out. That comes in a Habana Rosado
- 54:07and Habana Maduro. I own another brand called Cigar
- 54:11Obsession, has four different brand blends in there.
- 54:16I know I've heard of that one. I know I've.
- 54:17I've heard that one. Another brand called Above and
- 54:20Beyond, which is an homage. Above and Beyond is the Heroes
- 54:24line. That's an homage and pays honor
- 54:27to fire, EMS, law enforcement, military, fallen heroes.
- 54:30And we do some stuff with that one.
- 54:33That one got a 91 in cigar and spirits magazine and we sell
- 54:35that overseas. Very proud of that cigar because
- 54:38it means a lot to my family personally to to make that
- 54:41somewhere and I think that's it. Let's just see above and beyond
- 54:46Liga 9, Co Primos Estate and Prince Hall.
- 54:52That's it. There's a six right now.
- 54:55I do make some yards, like I mentioned, for other people, but
- 54:57those are the six that I own right now.
- 54:59OK, cool. So I'm going to tell you the
- 55:01Prince hall that I'm smoking right now got the door the off
- 55:06the rack. I'm going to tell you this.
- 55:09I am going to look for this. I got to find a shop that
- 55:11carries your cigars, cause not a lot of shack shops carry David
- 55:16Blanco. Well, a lot of shops don't carry
- 55:19boutiques either. So it's very, it's very hard to
- 55:22get boutiques into some of these shops.
- 55:24It is and especially in New York.
- 55:26I will tell you that we used to do a lot more business in New
- 55:28York than we do now because they the taxes up there has have
- 55:34caused a lot. There's a lot of shrinkage.
- 55:37We do do business in Jersey and Pennsylvania of course.
- 55:40What's the closest shop or to you in New York?
- 55:45There's a there's a few different ones.
- 55:48You have Middletown Cigar Lounge, which is like 30 to 45
- 55:52minutes from me. There's a smoke shop by my house
- 55:58that has a walk in humidor that actually is looking for new
- 56:01brands. After this, give me a call,
- 56:04we'll talk and I'll see if I can ping them.
- 56:06Yeah, absolutely. He's he's looking for stuff to
- 56:08up his humidor. So I'm I'm, I'm helping him on
- 56:11that. I'm working on helping another
- 56:13lounge, he's a smoke shop, but he wants to open a lounge next
- 56:16door. So we're helping him with that.
- 56:18So we'll obviously we'll be in touch for that too.
- 56:21If you can't find Blanco cigars near you, by the way, guys that
- 56:24are out there watching, there are some people online that sell
- 56:27our stuff. We basically sell.
- 56:29The guys that sell our stuff online are brick and mortar
- 56:32shops that also sell online. So for example, and ourselves by
- 56:38the way, we have an MSRP store for guys like you that don't
- 56:42have a shop around you. Because the guys that sell
- 56:44online for us, that brick and mortars, they may have select
- 56:46sizes, they may not carry all six brands that I own or the
- 56:50full line of everything that I own.
- 56:53So what we've done and we've had for a long time is we have at
- 56:57Blanco cigars.com, we have an MSRP web store.
- 57:01So you can buy 5 packs or boxes or bundles depending on the
- 57:05cigar of all of our stuff. So that's always a place that
- 57:09you know you can get it from the source.
- 57:11You know it's going to be properly humidified, properly
- 57:13stored, and we have every size of everything as long as it's in
- 57:16stock. We we want to come to your tour,
- 57:23so how about turnbuckles and stogies come to your tour and we
- 57:27do a live event right there. With this.
- 57:30And with all the other consumers and the people on the tour.
- 57:36If you guys want to come on the tour, like I said, we got four
- 57:40seats available. I'm not, I'm, I'm down with it.
- 57:43I will tell you that it is still a third world country.
- 57:46And what I mean by that is, is that I have done interviews like
- 57:49this from there and sometimes the Internet speed is not.
- 57:54Exactly. Yeah, I've heard that.
- 57:57I've heard it's it's nice to it's it's good to go there, but
- 58:01I've heard it's not. It's not pleasing to do that
- 58:04unless you like. We sit down together and record
- 58:07the interview and then upload it when we get back.
- 58:10It would be a better quality. I have done it live like this,
- 58:13but it comes in a little choppy. Right.
- 58:18But now as we're as we're winding down, let me let me ask
- 58:21you, are you going to PCA this year?
- 58:24Not only am I going to PCA, I'm also going to TPE in about two
- 58:27weeks. So yes, I'm doing both.
- 58:29OK. So we'll we'll also see you at
- 58:31PCA. We'll see you at PCA.
- 58:35He meant to say PCA. OK.
- 58:38We'll see you at PCA, obviously. Perfect.
- 58:40Perfect where I'm at because PCA is that is right before my
- 58:44birthday. Actually my birthday Is that
- 58:45Monday the 25th. Oh, nice.
- 58:48So I'll be out there from like that the 21st till about the
- 58:5324th and I'll fly out the 24th. OK, cool, man.
- 58:56Where are you guys staying? You know?
- 58:57Yet you know where you're staying.
- 58:59The South South Point S hotel or something right off the Strip.
- 59:05That one, I don't know. Yeah, Johnny and Tamiro.
- 59:09I know you follow. One of our one of our buddies
- 59:11stays there. Gotcha, he told us.
- 59:14He's like, that's probably the the cheapest place you'll find,
- 59:18unless you stay farther out. I do.
- 59:22I would like, if you could, would give me the opportunity I
- 59:24do. I do would like to make one
- 59:25plug. One plug.
- 59:27I have is that we just started our annual Cigars for Warriors
- 59:32donation drive and I do this in conjunction with my buddy Brian
- 59:36Glenn from Cigar Obsession. And then we bring all the cigars
- 59:39together and then we the they come collect them on our
- 59:44website, which I think one of you guys are might be on right
- 59:46now. We have.
- 59:48We have a cigars for Warriors donation bag that we prorate, we
- 59:52subsidized since we're not able to give direct donations for
- 59:56free anymore tobacco samples as a from a manufacturer.
- 1:00:00So what we've done is we have these bags of 10 cigars and you
- 1:00:05guys are people are allowed to go ahead and purchase them for
- 1:00:0825 bucks. We're given 10 cigars and then
- 1:00:12we'll we we keep them at our warehouse, we collect them,
- 1:00:15continue to consolidate them. And then at the IT goes to the
- 1:00:19end of February, we give them over to Brian Glenn, we
- 1:00:23consolidate all the cigars that we get and then cigars for us
- 1:00:26comes and picks them up. So if you guys would be so
- 1:00:29honored as to your viewership be interested in in participating
- 1:00:36in our donation drive, it would be highly appreciated.
- 1:00:39I can tell you I was one of those guys over there in the in
- 1:00:42the foxholes and cigar meant a lot.
- 1:00:44It it brings a little bit of home back to you gives you a
- 1:00:48respite for a second time. Not have to think about what
- 1:00:51we're doing and how how bad. You're in the suck, right?
