- 0:01Speaker 1: I'll start Toyota Presents off the Bench with Jacob Hester
- 0:04Speaker 1: and Matt Flynn.
- 0:05Speaker 2: Say Hester and Hester.
- 0:08Speaker 1: From carrying each other to and Natty to carrying each other.
- 0:12Speaker 3: On the air.
- 0:13Speaker 2: Wow, there's control the.
- 0:17Speaker 1: Live from the Mercedes Benz Baton Rouge studio. It's off the.
- 0:21Speaker 4: Bench all right, welcome back in now our number three
- 0:29Speaker 4: OTV one O four five ESPN Baton Rouge. Yesterday, had
- 0:33Speaker 4: the opportunity to go down to Metaie for New Orleans
- 0:36Speaker 4: Saints training camp. Had a great opportunity to catch up
- 0:40Speaker 4: with all three quarterbacks and Ak and Mickey Loomis, Cam Jordan.
- 0:44Speaker 4: But the guy that I wanted to talk with was
- 0:47Speaker 4: Kella Moore, Saints head coach. New head coach, young guy,
- 0:51Speaker 4: and he is taking over a job that's probably not
- 0:57Speaker 4: the most desirable, like when you look at it from afar,
- 0:59Speaker 4: because the roster where it is, the age of the roster,
- 1:02Speaker 4: some of the draft choices that haven't worked out. But
- 1:05Speaker 4: he certainly wanted the challenge, embraced the challenge, and we
- 1:09Speaker 4: caught up with him yesterday and we asked him how
- 1:11Speaker 4: the experience has been so far.
- 1:12Speaker 5: Yeah, it's been great, It's been awesome being back here
- 1:15Speaker 5: in Metori in Louisiana for training camp. With the heat
- 1:18Speaker 5: and the humidity has been really, really a great thing
- 1:20Speaker 5: for us. And so this has been an awesome training
- 1:21Speaker 5: camp being here getting into our routine.
- 1:24Speaker 2: We got a great group of guys.
- 1:26Speaker 4: I was just gonna ask you see, you know, I
- 1:28Speaker 4: guess some family members here, how did they like the
- 1:30Speaker 4: heat humidity of New Orleans?
- 1:32Speaker 2: When they go out there, they get used to it,
- 1:33Speaker 2: they've gotten used to it.
- 1:34Speaker 5: They love it.
- 1:35Speaker 2: Yeah, not too much different from Dallas.
- 1:37Speaker 5: Yeah. Yeah, we were in Dallas for a long time
- 1:39Speaker 5: and so certainly there's commidity there, and so we're good.
- 1:41Speaker 3: And by the way, I've been at Philadelphia Eagles training
- 1:44Speaker 3: camp in July and August.
- 1:45Speaker 5: It's not that great there because most places around the
- 1:49Speaker 5: country have some degree of this.
- 1:50Speaker 3: So so let's talk about this. You end up in
- 1:53Speaker 3: New Orleans, and when you take the job, there's an
- 1:55Speaker 3: assumption that you have a quarterback that changes. I know
- 1:59Speaker 3: that's a detail because if you hear long enough, you're
- 2:02Speaker 3: gonna you know.
- 2:03Speaker 2: You're gonna go through that. Why New Orleans? Why do
- 2:05Speaker 2: you end up here?
- 2:06Speaker 5: Yeah? I think one of the biggest aspects of it
- 2:08Speaker 5: was the people. You know, you get to know the organization,
- 2:11Speaker 5: the people who have led this group for such a
- 2:13Speaker 5: long time and led by Mickey and his you know,
- 2:16Speaker 5: personnel department, missus. B Uh, they're amazing, They're they're awesome,
- 2:20Speaker 5: awesome people.
- 2:21Speaker 3: Uh.
- 2:21Speaker 5: This organization has been run the right way for a
- 2:23Speaker 5: long time. And so anytime you're around really good people,
- 2:26Speaker 5: he got a great chance of having success.
- 2:27Speaker 2: One of my favorite things about you.
- 2:29Speaker 4: No matter who the quarterback's been, and they've all had
- 2:31Speaker 4: different styles in Dallas and LA in Philly, you'll have
- 2:34Speaker 4: been successful. So when you had this quarterback battle like
- 2:36Speaker 4: this and you've got you and Doug and Scott and
- 2:38Speaker 4: y'all have all played the position in the NFL, like,
- 2:41Speaker 4: what are you looking for for the Saints starting quarterback?
- 2:43Speaker 4: And kind of what are those conversations like between the
- 2:45Speaker 4: three of you?
- 2:46Speaker 5: Yeah, I think a lot of it. You know, you
- 2:48Speaker 5: start with the physical component. Obviously we all have to
- 2:50Speaker 5: see that, and we can all see that. I think
- 2:51Speaker 5: all these guys are capable making all the throws. It
- 2:54Speaker 5: really comes down to the command of the offense, the communication,
- 2:57Speaker 5: the consistency these guys are gonna make miss In training camp,
- 3:00Speaker 5: I hope they do, to be honest, just because you
- 3:02Speaker 5: got to see how they respond, because that's how this
- 3:04Speaker 5: how this deal goes. And then season you're gonna have
- 3:06Speaker 5: to deal some ups and downs and the guys who
- 3:08Speaker 5: can handle that the best are the are the best
- 3:09Speaker 5: guys in this league.
- 3:10Speaker 2: So let's help make some news.
- 3:11Speaker 3: You want to name your starter right now, I'm not
- 3:15Speaker 3: going there, But tell me about the process do you
- 3:18Speaker 3: have Do you have a timetable in mind to name
- 3:20Speaker 3: a starter? How do you get them all enough reps
- 3:23Speaker 3: to truly evaluate them?
- 3:24Speaker 2: What's the process.
- 3:25Speaker 5: Yeah, so we're beginning early in training camp, rotating uh
- 3:28Speaker 5: the three guys and giving them all different opportunities and
- 3:30Speaker 5: really ultimately the reps are balanced, you know, first group,
- 3:33Speaker 5: second group, and third group. They're all getting the same,
- 3:35Speaker 5: you know, similar reps, and so we're trying to get
- 3:37Speaker 5: these guys with as much exposure as we can. We know,
- 3:39Speaker 5: as we shift gears towards the Chargers first preseason game,
- 3:42Speaker 5: we're gonna have to narrow the focus, create a little
- 3:44Speaker 5: bit of a pecking order, and then from there we
- 3:45Speaker 5: will adjust and when whenever we make that decision, you know,
- 3:49Speaker 5: obviously the sooner you make it awesome. But if it
- 3:52Speaker 5: takes us all the way through training camp, we'll take it.
- 3:53Speaker 5: Take it all the way.
- 3:54Speaker 4: If I took quarterback off before coming into training camp
- 3:56Speaker 4: this year, And I know you had some roster movement
- 3:58Speaker 4: with Tyre and deciding retire, But which position group are
- 4:01Speaker 4: you looking forward to to seeing maybe who rises to
- 4:04Speaker 4: the top, maybe that competition to see which guy can
- 4:06Speaker 4: end up being the best.
- 4:07Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm the one in general groups I'm just really
- 4:10Speaker 5: really excited about. Is our defensive back group. We have
- 4:12Speaker 5: a younger group back there, justin Reid coming in. Then
- 4:15Speaker 5: we get Julian Blackman. These corners, you know a lot
- 4:19Speaker 5: of young guys who've played played some football in this league,
- 4:21Speaker 5: but they're all ready to rock and roll. And so
- 4:23Speaker 5: you know that group, the energy of the juice. They're
- 4:26Speaker 5: all ball guys. They all attack the football and create turnovers.
- 4:28Speaker 5: I think we got a really special group back there.
- 4:30Speaker 5: If we can get these guys starting to play together
- 4:32Speaker 5: and spend time together, they can create a really really
- 4:33Speaker 5: good group back there.
- 4:34Speaker 3: Let me just jump back to the quarterback for a second,
- 4:36Speaker 3: because you played the position, so you understand the importance
- 4:39Speaker 3: of getting comfortable and you talked about the timetable. You're
- 4:42Speaker 3: gonna let it play out on its own, yep, but
- 4:44Speaker 3: knowing what's what's required to get ready for the start
- 4:46Speaker 3: of the season, you know, getting in their heads. How
- 4:49Speaker 3: important do you think it is to get something done,
- 4:51Speaker 3: hopefully sooner than the latest, so they can get in
- 4:53Speaker 3: the mindset of starting week one.
- 4:54Speaker 5: Yeah, no doubt, no doubt. Certainly, there's there's roles that
- 4:57Speaker 5: ultimately we have to have to find for these guys,
- 4:59Speaker 5: and we'll get there. And so you know, it's important
- 5:01Speaker 5: that you know, once we get there, these guys understand
- 5:03Speaker 5: their role. They're continue to compete, continue to get better,
- 5:06Speaker 5: but we'll let this thing play itself out. You know,
- 5:08Speaker 5: I truly believe a lot of times, you know these qbs,
- 5:11Speaker 5: you know they're gonna figure it out. They'll sort it
- 5:12Speaker 5: out their self and we'll go from there.
- 5:14Speaker 3: I know this too, having been out here when when
- 5:16Speaker 3: Drew was the quarterback out here, Quarterbacks like to compete
- 5:19Speaker 3: amongst themselves. He always had a competition after whatever it
- 5:22Speaker 3: was we'd watched. Sometimes it was with some of the
- 5:24Speaker 3: members of the Pelicans that were out here. Do things
- 5:26Speaker 3: do these guys have little competitions amongst them.
- 5:28Speaker 5: Oh, no doubt.
- 5:28Speaker 2: Every day of practice.
- 5:30Speaker 5: We were bowling yesterday as a team, and those guys
- 5:32Speaker 5: quickly ended up all in the same the same lane,
- 5:35Speaker 5: and you know, there's a little bit of a competition going.
- 5:37Speaker 4: It doesn't killing organically like the team you'll kind of
- 5:40Speaker 4: get an idea of who that guy is because you're
- 5:43Speaker 4: not trying to script it, but it just kind of happens,
- 5:45Speaker 4: like the guys start to kind of rally around who
- 5:46Speaker 4: they think is going to be the guy.
- 5:48Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, again.
- 5:48Speaker 5: A lot of times this thing kind of, you know,
- 5:50Speaker 5: sorts it self out organically over the course of time.
- 5:53Speaker 2: We have a really good group.
- 5:54Speaker 5: These guys are all awesome. The thing I loved about
- 5:56Speaker 5: the quarterback room is all these guys that face adversity
- 5:58Speaker 5: in their life, through their college careers, you know, and
- 6:00Speaker 5: certainly even in the NFL. And so that's a big
- 6:03Speaker 5: part of this. You know, you're gonna have to face
- 6:04Speaker 5: adversity in the NFL, you have to face challenges, and
- 6:06Speaker 5: when these guys just keep keep it moving, they're gonna
- 6:09Speaker 5: be successful in this league.
- 6:09Speaker 3: You know, he asked you about groups, and you went
- 6:11Speaker 3: to the secondary. I'm interested in another group that you
- 6:14Speaker 3: didn't talk about yet. The offensive line. There's a big
- 6:16Speaker 3: investment with first round picks up there. Great to have
- 6:19Speaker 3: two tackles that are young and can develop up there.
- 6:22Speaker 3: Let's talk about that group and the role they can
- 6:23Speaker 3: play with whoever it is, a young quarterback, and how
- 6:26Speaker 3: important the running game will.
- 6:27Speaker 5: Be, no doubt, no doubt, you know that. That was
- 6:30Speaker 5: one of the attractive things to this place is you know,
- 6:32Speaker 5: I was in Dallas as a player and coach, I
- 6:34Speaker 5: was in Philly, even in Los Angeles for a year.
- 6:36Speaker 5: It's like the investment has always been on offense and
- 6:39Speaker 5: defensive line, and if you have that investment up front,
- 6:42Speaker 5: you're gonna give yourself a chance to win each and
- 6:44Speaker 5: every week. And Mickey's done that for a long time
- 6:46Speaker 5: here and so we continue to do that, you know,
- 6:47Speaker 5: being able to draft Kelvin in the first round, and
- 6:49Speaker 5: so we feel like we got a really, really good group.
- 6:52Speaker 5: These guys got to spend time together, They got to
- 6:53Speaker 5: invest this time together, get all the non verbal and
- 6:56Speaker 5: verbal communication, because when those guys can play at a
- 6:59Speaker 5: high level, we can we can do anything. All Right.
- 7:00Speaker 2: We talked a lot about quarterback here.
- 7:02Speaker 4: Let's go to the most important position running back or
- 7:05Speaker 4: it goes as impressive as the quarterback tree is for you.
- 7:07Speaker 4: You've had some running backs too in Dallas and certainly
- 7:09Speaker 4: in Philly, and you've got one here in Ak.
- 7:12Speaker 2: He's a thirty year old guy.
- 7:13Speaker 4: I know that's older for a running back, but he
- 7:15Speaker 4: has more tread than I think people realize with how
- 7:17Speaker 4: he's kind of handled his career.
- 7:19Speaker 2: Last year he was a really good player.
- 7:21Speaker 4: But just what does it mean for whoever the quarterback
- 7:23Speaker 4: is to have forty one sitting next to them and
- 7:25Speaker 4: all the things you can do with him as a player.
- 7:27Speaker 5: Yeah, Ak is one of the best in this league
- 7:28Speaker 5: and been that way for a long time, and so
- 7:31Speaker 5: his ability to play in the run game, in the
- 7:32Speaker 5: past game, it's just impressive. It's impressive to be out
- 7:35Speaker 5: here spending time in training camp watching him run the football,
- 7:38Speaker 5: his vision, his cuts. It's really really special. We expect
- 7:41Speaker 5: a huge year out of him. It's gonna be a
- 7:42Speaker 5: lot of fun.
- 7:43Speaker 3: Jacob Jans is bringing back to the group he knows,
- 7:45Speaker 3: but there's no fullback on the rock, so I still
- 7:48Speaker 3: think he's out of his comfort zone, isn't he.
- 7:51Speaker 2: See what y'all miss?
- 7:52Speaker 6: Is?
- 7:52Speaker 4: Kellen on the side told me that they're gonna, you know,
- 7:54Speaker 4: maybe make a tight end a full back and he's
- 7:56Speaker 4: gonna put him in a forty number and it's gonna
- 7:58Speaker 4: look the same.
- 7:59Speaker 2: That's just a sidecona. We got a hold a couple
- 8:02Speaker 2: of things.
- 8:03Speaker 3: I know you made a point of this, I think
- 8:05Speaker 3: at your introductory news conference that you're going to be
- 8:07Speaker 3: calling plays. Yeah, And I've always said when guys get
- 8:09Speaker 3: head coaching jobs, I remember talking to Mike Zimmer about
- 8:12Speaker 3: this and he said, look, it's why we got.
- 8:14Speaker 2: The job exactly. Why would we.
- 8:16Speaker 3: Give up that responsibility? But now you have a lot
- 8:18Speaker 3: of other responsibilities. Is how is that working for you?
- 8:22Speaker 3: Making sure that you can handle both of those responsibilities.
- 8:24Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 8:25Speaker 5: Yeah, it's been obviously a big experience for me, just
- 8:27Speaker 5: you know, navigating the time managements to who's aspect of it,
- 8:30Speaker 5: you know, letting other people you know, do their job
- 8:33Speaker 5: and just trust them and letting them go. I'm fortunate
- 8:35Speaker 5: from an offense perspective to have Doug with me, who's
- 8:38Speaker 5: been with me really since Dallas in twenty eighteen, and
- 8:40Speaker 5: so we know each other so well and have some
- 8:43Speaker 5: experienced guys around us, you know, Scott Lenhand, Brandon Staley
- 8:46Speaker 5: been head coach in this league, Certainly Mickey, Jeff, all
- 8:49Speaker 5: those guys in the personnel department can lean on and
- 8:52Speaker 5: so we got a really special group here.
- 8:54Speaker 4: I do want to keep going around the roster real
- 8:55Speaker 4: quick because the tied in group, I think it can
- 8:58Speaker 4: be a special one. But you've had some injuries and
- 8:59Speaker 4: you're waiting maybe on Tasum and you got Foster Moro
- 9:02Speaker 4: as well as kind of battling injuries. Where's the health
- 9:04Speaker 4: right now with that group, because when they're full strength,
- 9:06Speaker 4: it's a completely different group than you have out there
- 9:08Speaker 4: right now.
- 9:08Speaker 2: Yeah, no doubt.
- 9:09Speaker 5: We're certainly navigating the injury thing from the tight end
- 9:11Speaker 5: perspective because you know those guys are going through that.
- 9:14Speaker 5: We got some really good players though, and obviously the
- 9:17Speaker 5: timelines will all be different for those guys, but all
- 9:19Speaker 5: those guys are gonna have impacts on our team this.
- 9:20Speaker 2: Year real quick.
- 9:21Speaker 3: Two things before you go, The balance of keeping the
- 9:23Speaker 3: guys healthy to start the season and putting them through
- 9:26Speaker 3: some tough work here. All coaches have to manage that,
- 9:30Speaker 3: and you learn from the guys that you would before.
- 9:32Speaker 2: What's your philosophy on it?
- 9:33Speaker 5: Yeah, Yeah, you know, we're building this thing as we go,
- 9:36Speaker 5: and certainly, you know, you got to lean into the
- 9:38Speaker 5: sports science, the sports performance and the medical staff, and
- 9:40Speaker 5: we got some of the best in the business here,
- 9:42Speaker 5: and you lean in those expertise. We've been building this
- 9:45Speaker 5: thing as we go. These guys, these practices get harder
- 9:48Speaker 5: and harder every day, and we'll get to a point
- 9:50Speaker 5: where it's not going to feel comfortable at all, and
- 9:52Speaker 5: they got to pushed through it, and then we'll protect
- 9:54Speaker 5: them and get them ready to go, because ultimately what's
- 9:56Speaker 5: most evaluated those sundays in the fall and certainly in
- 9:59Speaker 5: August start that way.
- 10:00Speaker 3: And the last thing, you know, I reflect on a
- 10:02Speaker 3: lot of guys that we've talked to on our tour
- 10:04Speaker 3: that our first year head coaches, and I'm always interested
- 10:06Speaker 3: in what they've learned since taking the job that they
- 10:09Speaker 3: weren't expecting. Again, I reflect on Mike Zimmer who said,
- 10:12Speaker 3: you know, the meetings with the owner, the media responsibilities,
- 10:16Speaker 3: you know, sitting here with us, I mean, you know,
- 10:18Speaker 3: you take over and you think, you know what what
- 10:19Speaker 3: what to you has been the thing that you said, boy,
- 10:22Speaker 3: I wasn't ready for that.
- 10:23Speaker 5: Yeah, I think just the daily media responsibilities are obviously
- 10:26Speaker 5: a little different from the coordinator perspective, and you know,
- 10:29Speaker 5: and just the logistics of just getting everyone on the
- 10:31Speaker 5: same page, the operation of training camp, when you're traveling
- 10:34Speaker 5: to California, when you're dealing with road games, all the
- 10:36Speaker 5: little things that come into play there. You know, you's
- 10:39Speaker 5: got to make sure everyone's on the same page.
- 10:40Speaker 3: Yeah, you don't get to score yourself away and just
- 10:42Speaker 3: focus on your one side of the football anymore.
- 10:44Speaker 2: Now you're responsible for the whole roster.
- 10:46Speaker 5: Yep, yep. But it's been great. It's a great organization.
- 10:48Speaker 5: We're gonna do some great things.
- 10:49Speaker 3: And Callen, thanks for stopping by. Good luck in your
- 10:51Speaker 3: first year with this football team.
- 10:52Speaker 2: Right, thank you so much.
- 10:53Speaker 7: Guys.
- 10:54Speaker 4: All right, that was Saints Hey, coach Kela Moore yesterday
- 10:57Speaker 4: at Saints' training camp.
- 10:59Speaker 2: And you know, look, he is.
- 11:01Speaker 8: Sounded a lot different. What my voice sounded a lot
- 11:04Speaker 8: different in that interview.
- 11:05Speaker 4: Oh, you sounded like you were Bruce Murray, who is
- 11:08Speaker 4: lives up there, New Orleans.
- 11:11Speaker 2: Yeah, Bruce.
- 11:12Speaker 4: So Bruce Murray went to Tulane, Like he actually went
- 11:15Speaker 4: to school.
- 11:15Speaker 7: Are you No, There's no way he did.
- 11:17Speaker 4: No, he went to school, and he said, like some
- 11:19Speaker 4: of his children have gone to school there as well.
- 11:22Speaker 4: He he said, you know, he said it in a
- 11:25Speaker 4: way that he went to Tulane and said New Orleans.
- 11:29Speaker 2: I know, I know, I know. I did like yesterday,
- 11:32Speaker 2: like you.
- 11:32Speaker 4: Said it one time, and when he would say it,
- 11:35Speaker 4: I kept saying New Orleans like after him, like you
- 11:37Speaker 4: pick up.
- 11:38Speaker 2: It's okay. He's a great guy, does a great job.
- 11:40Speaker 2: He didn't say New Orleans.
- 11:42Speaker 8: Yeah, Kellen kind of got uncomfortable when he said they
- 11:45Speaker 8: were starting quarterback.
- 11:47Speaker 7: Yeah, you should.
- 11:49Speaker 4: Have been there, like see Kell's face as awkward as
- 11:53Speaker 4: it felt there as well. But that's why I asked
- 11:56Speaker 4: him the question and kind of posed it the way
- 11:58Speaker 4: like you've had different quarterbacks like Dak's never going to
- 12:01Speaker 4: be confused for Herbert, Herbert's not gonna be confused for Jalen,
- 12:04Speaker 4: but all three have been successful.
- 12:06Speaker 2: We talked about that, was that yesterday two days ago.
- 12:08Speaker 9: Me and Matt talked about it yesterday too. It was
- 12:10Speaker 9: like that's why, no.
- 12:14Speaker 7: I think he's actually heard, but I.
- 12:16Speaker 2: Mean I've seen it everywhere guys.
- 12:18Speaker 9: Well, No, we were talking about like, look, Kellen Moore
- 12:20Speaker 9: doesn't have the experience as being a head coach, but
- 12:23Speaker 9: he kind of got to blindly trust him when it
- 12:25Speaker 9: comes to offense because of what he's done. And like
- 12:27Speaker 9: Herbert has been good even without Kellen Moore, but like
- 12:31Speaker 9: before Kellen Moore, after Kellen Moore, look at what kind
- 12:34Speaker 9: of quarterback Justin Herbert was. Yeah, and I get him
- 12:36Speaker 9: being a rookie and all that. I understand that, but
- 12:39Speaker 9: Jalen hurts you in the Super Bowl. Dak hasn't been
- 12:41Speaker 9: the same since Kellen Moore left. I mean, there's something
- 12:44Speaker 9: to this.
- 12:45Speaker 4: It is, but also like all those guys being different,
- 12:48Speaker 4: that's the best part about it because if it was
- 12:50Speaker 4: three of the same quarterback, you like, I don't really know.
- 12:52Speaker 2: I don't know if the Saints have that guy.
- 12:53Speaker 4: On the roster, but three different skill sets where they've Yeah.
- 12:57Speaker 8: I guess Dak and Herbert are the most similar, but
- 12:59Speaker 8: they are so certainly.
- 13:00Speaker 7: Not the same guy.
- 13:01Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, like Dak's talented, but there's there's throws
- 13:04Speaker 4: that Herbert can make the Dak just can't.
- 13:06Speaker 2: And there's things that Dak can do that Herbert can.
- 13:07Speaker 2: But they're all three get injured.
- 13:10Speaker 4: There's all there's there's you know, there's three different quarterbacks,
- 13:14Speaker 4: and like Jalen Hurts, they didn't have the same skill
- 13:16Speaker 4: set as those other guys, but they created He created
- 13:19Speaker 4: an offense around him that was the best case scenario.
- 13:23Speaker 4: He was Obviously they did great things in the run
- 13:25Speaker 4: game with Saquon Barkley. And I asked Alvin yesterday, I'm like, hey,
- 13:29Speaker 4: like you watched that tape last year, like with what
- 13:31Speaker 4: he was doing with Saquon, and you've already sent that
- 13:33Speaker 4: film to him like saying we need to do this.
- 13:35Speaker 4: He goes the second day, he's like the second day,
- 13:38Speaker 4: I'm like, hey, like, I saw y'all do this with Saquon, Like,
- 13:41Speaker 4: let's put this in. So it's not only the quarterback position.
- 13:45Speaker 4: It's looking at the totality of what I have in
- 13:48Speaker 4: front of me and what can I do to make
- 13:51Speaker 4: the best version of this? Like whatever this is, Like,
- 13:53Speaker 4: I got to make the best version knowing the skill
- 13:56Speaker 4: that I have. And like I asked him about the
- 13:58Speaker 4: tight end position because I think if fully healthy, like
- 14:00Speaker 4: you can be good. But right now, it's a lot
- 14:03Speaker 4: of guys that none of us would know if we
- 14:05Speaker 4: didn't cover the Saints every day. Right it's a lot
- 14:07Speaker 4: of names that you know, even like a good fan,
- 14:11Speaker 4: not even a casual fans.
- 14:12Speaker 2: Like who are we talking about?
- 14:13Speaker 4: But you could see yesterday of practice that they were
- 14:16Speaker 4: trying to integrate some different things to try to hide
- 14:19Speaker 4: the position a little bit until their guys get back.
- 14:21Speaker 4: Because it's like, why am I going to be twelve
- 14:24Speaker 4: personnel heavy? Londra can tell you what that is later on.
- 14:27Speaker 4: If I don't have two good tight ends, right, but
- 14:30Speaker 4: if I give Falstimorrow back, if Juwan Johnson does who
- 14:33Speaker 4: got nicked up again yesterday, and Taysom comes back like okay,
- 14:36Speaker 4: then we can do some of those things.
- 14:37Speaker 2: But why am I going to say, well.
- 14:39Speaker 4: This is how I've always done it, this is what
- 14:40Speaker 4: I'm going to do when you hate got to Jimmies
- 14:42Speaker 4: and Joe's.
- 14:43Speaker 7: To do it?
- 14:44Speaker 8: Yeah, I mean, it's classic just a coach, and it's
- 14:47Speaker 8: something for Saints fans to at least be optimistic about
- 14:52Speaker 8: for this season that we can be efficient on offense,
- 14:55Speaker 8: we can have some we can have good offensive numbers
- 14:58Speaker 8: because it's a coach that is designing the offense based
- 15:04Speaker 8: on the player, not trying to make the player fit
- 15:07Speaker 8: into one specific offense. And there is this track record
- 15:11Speaker 8: like you just said, of it's never looked the same
- 15:14Speaker 8: at any of the places that he's been and that's
- 15:17Speaker 8: what a good offensive coach does. So I mean something
- 15:19Speaker 8: to be excited about. And I think when Tosing came on,
- 15:23Speaker 8: you know, a month ago, he kind of said the
- 15:24Speaker 8: same thing. We're kind of developing this offense as we
- 15:28Speaker 8: go kind of on the field. We're talking all the
- 15:30Speaker 8: time and seeing seeing what the strengths and weaknesses are.
- 15:33Speaker 7: Because we're new here.
- 15:35Speaker 8: We got a great idea, yeah, but we won't know
- 15:38Speaker 8: until we actually know.
- 15:40Speaker 7: So all right, I'm excited. But we're talking ourselves into.
- 15:44Speaker 2: This again again. If they stay healthy.
- 15:48Speaker 4: And I know that's like such a big question mark,
- 15:50Speaker 4: not only because it's the NFL, but because let's call
- 15:52Speaker 4: it like it is the Saints injury history, hell, the
- 15:55Speaker 4: Pelican's injury history.
- 15:56Speaker 2: That they share the same building. I get that.
- 15:59Speaker 4: I know that, But the first twenty two out there
- 16:02Speaker 4: can be competitive with the coaching staff they have, the
- 16:05Speaker 4: players they have.
- 16:06Speaker 2: It is the biggest if. And I know, but I
- 16:10Speaker 2: didn't see the thirty second ranked.
- 16:12Speaker 4: Roster yesterday when I went out there, And I think,
- 16:15Speaker 4: if they make the right decisions at quarterback.
- 16:19Speaker 2: But they can be a team that's not going to
- 16:20Speaker 2: win the championship. We know that.
- 16:24Speaker 4: But if they can create something a foundation of hell
- 16:29Speaker 4: nine wins, yeah, be mid, be mid, b mid this
- 16:32Speaker 4: year and create a building foundation for what the future
- 16:35Speaker 4: looks like.
- 16:36Speaker 2: I think that's going to be important for this Saints.
- 16:38Speaker 7: The majority of Saints fans want them to be mid
- 16:41Speaker 7: or no, I think they want them to be really bad.
- 16:42Speaker 7: I want to be really bad.
- 16:45Speaker 4: I don't know if I just don't have six wins,
- 16:48Speaker 4: either have ten wins.
- 16:49Speaker 2: Or have two.
- 16:50Speaker 6: I'm a Saints fan, and like the way that I'm
- 16:52Speaker 6: looking at it is like reality, you know, and the
- 16:56Speaker 6: I'm I.
- 16:57Speaker 2: Don't want them to be bad.
- 16:58Speaker 6: I don't know why as a fan you would want
- 17:01Speaker 6: any Like why you would want your team to be
- 17:03Speaker 6: bad except for like the tank for Arch or whatever
- 17:06Speaker 6: narrative that's out there. But like I just look at
- 17:09Speaker 6: it as like we are probably gonna be mid. I
- 17:12Speaker 6: don't think we'll be as bad as last year. But again,
- 17:14Speaker 6: like go out there be mid, Spencer Ratler, like, I
- 17:17Speaker 6: feel good about it. And I was gonna say, like,
- 17:20Speaker 6: cause I know you wanted to bring this up on air,
- 17:23Speaker 6: so I was gonna from earlier, and this might be
- 17:26Speaker 6: a dumb question, but like if you are kind of
- 17:31Speaker 6: unsure about the quarterback position and you're pretty thin at
- 17:36Speaker 6: tighten and like you're unsure about that as well. Like
- 17:39Speaker 6: I don't know if we brought this up, I don't remember,
- 17:41Speaker 6: but Noah Fan signed with the Bengals, so that we
- 17:43Speaker 6: were visited. Okay, Yeah, so he visited the Saints and
- 17:48Speaker 6: we were saying, like, I mean, that'd be a good
- 17:49Speaker 6: get if you can get it. So he he leaves,
- 17:52Speaker 6: didn't get him signed signs with the Bengals. So all
- 17:55Speaker 6: that to say, would it be fair to say that
- 17:58Speaker 6: like you would probably have to rely on the run
- 18:02Speaker 6: game or no.
- 18:04Speaker 4: No, because the tight ends though, you do, because like
- 18:06Speaker 4: the tight ends that they have, that's what they are. Yeah,
- 18:08Speaker 4: why tight ends? Yeah, they're not dynamic pass catchers. And again,
- 18:12Speaker 4: like you gotta get Juwan healthy and he just continues
- 18:16Speaker 4: to be nicked up, and I do think Falster Moro
- 18:19Speaker 4: once he gets back, we kind of know what you're
- 18:20Speaker 4: gonna get with Foster. He had a really good end
- 18:22Speaker 4: to last year. But the guys they have now, No,
- 18:25Speaker 4: they are true why tight ends, They're gonna be better
- 18:28Speaker 4: in the run game than they are in the past game.
- 18:30Speaker 4: And yeah, that's like again, it's what like Kellen has
- 18:33Speaker 4: to look at that which he's done in his past
- 18:34Speaker 4: and be like, we can't do the things that we
- 18:37Speaker 4: would do with the other tight ends we got in
- 18:39Speaker 4: with these tight ends.
- 18:39Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 18:40Speaker 6: So then what I asked in the break was because
- 18:43Speaker 6: we talked about the running back room I think last week,
- 18:47Speaker 6: and we're like, maybe we can make an argument for
- 18:49Speaker 6: it or whatever, but we have to see about Kendre Miller.
- 18:52Speaker 6: So that was somebody that I was looking out for
- 18:54Speaker 6: and have like a question mark about because that could
- 18:57Speaker 6: be a weapon if he can be healthy and he
- 19:00Speaker 6: can like you know, stay on track. So I asked you,
- 19:04Speaker 6: what did like, did you see Kendre Miller out there?
- 19:07Speaker 2: You didn't mention it? Yeah, yeah, because I did.
- 19:09Speaker 4: I was waxing poetic about all the other backs and
- 19:11Speaker 4: then one on one pass protection which is a defensive drill,
- 19:14Speaker 4: and they were all stoning the linebacker.
- 19:16Speaker 2: There was one guy that got big BOYD was Kendre Miller.
- 19:18Speaker 7: Well, theo good news is.
- 19:19Speaker 9: It doesn't have to be Kendre right, like running deep
- 19:24Speaker 9: Hilario like Devin Neil. People like, you know, Marcus Yarns
- 19:28Speaker 9: is talented as an undrafted guy, like about.
- 19:31Speaker 4: The room yesterday and I don't remember if he was
- 19:33Speaker 4: on air, off air. I think it was on air,
- 19:34Speaker 4: but he started talking. He's like, man, it's good to
- 19:36Speaker 4: have other vets in here. And then he's like, and
- 19:37Speaker 4: we got some young cats and he said Neil and
- 19:39Speaker 4: Yard like he didn't.
- 19:40Speaker 2: He mentioned Then he went back and mentioned Hendre Miller.
- 19:43Speaker 6: But Ross, Yeah, Ross wrote an article about Devin Neil
- 19:48Speaker 6: and like how he's a really good prospect.
- 19:51Speaker 7: Yeah so all time leading rusher.
- 19:53Speaker 2: Yeah, went there.
- 19:55Speaker 4: So, yeah, Kendre Miller in past protect big boyd like
- 19:59Speaker 4: you gotta, like.
- 20:00Speaker 7: Everybody gets pick boy though, I mean it's training camp.
- 20:03Speaker 2: Yeah, no you do.
- 20:04Speaker 4: But like you've when the other backs are like locked
- 20:07Speaker 4: in and ready to go, like it's gonna stand down. Yeah,
- 20:08Speaker 4: even he kind of so he got to the point
- 20:11Speaker 4: of attack, he kind of stood flat footed, was on
- 20:14Speaker 4: his heels and the linebacker just brought him back to
- 20:16Speaker 4: the quarterback and then one arm shoved him to the
- 20:18Speaker 4: ground like you like you you gotta everybody loses battles.
- 20:23Speaker 7: But when yeah, when the other three guys have a
- 20:27Speaker 7: really good rep. You have a battle. Yeah, it sticks
- 20:29Speaker 7: out pretty pretty good.
- 20:31Speaker 4: Yeah I'm not gonna yeah judge a goalf one rep,
- 20:33Speaker 4: but hey if not, now then win with Ken J.
- 20:35Speaker 7: Miller.
- 20:36Speaker 2: It is what it is. You're a third round pick.
- 20:38Speaker 2: When you're a third round.
- 20:38Speaker 4: Pick of running back, that's not like being a third
- 20:40Speaker 4: round pick at another position. That's almost like a first
- 20:43Speaker 4: round pick running back. Like if they if they select
- 20:45Speaker 4: you in the third round, like they think of you
- 20:47Speaker 4: as a starter at the running back position, certainly second rounder,
- 20:51Speaker 4: like you always go up around with running back, so
- 20:53Speaker 4: maybe not a first round but a second rounder, Like
- 20:55Speaker 4: that's what they think of you, because the position is
- 20:58Speaker 4: not gonna have a ton of first rounders.
- 20:59Speaker 2: If you have a first rounder, and I think.
- 21:01Speaker 4: That was what two this year, they consider you like
- 21:03Speaker 4: generationalep almost like Kendre, Like, if you want to make
- 21:07Speaker 4: this squad, you got a lot to prove because I'm
- 21:10Speaker 4: seeing veteran players like Clyde and Cam go out there,
- 21:13Speaker 4: Cam Akers and they're making plays.
- 21:15Speaker 2: You know Ak is gonna make plays.
- 21:16Speaker 4: And if I'm a first year head coach and I
- 21:18Speaker 4: know running back is really important, who am I going
- 21:21Speaker 4: to trust to be in the huddle with whoever the
- 21:24Speaker 4: quarterback is, right, ak needs a breather. Don't want to
- 21:27Speaker 4: be Clyde Edwards, d Layer cam Akers, or don't want
- 21:29Speaker 4: to be Kendre right now, that's the problem.
- 21:32Speaker 8: Let me tell you running back you can There's been
- 21:35Speaker 8: a lot of talented ball carriers that don't make a
- 21:40Speaker 8: team because they can't pass back.
- 21:43Speaker 4: Uh, There's been some some elite level, there's been some
- 21:47Speaker 4: mid level running backs that have made teams because they
- 21:49Speaker 4: can't pass.
- 21:50Speaker 7: For ten preach. I mean, it's fifty percent of your
- 21:54Speaker 7: job in the NFL's.
- 21:55Speaker 4: The only reason I stole a year in Denver because
- 21:58Speaker 4: of it.
- 21:58Speaker 8: If you want to be a fan, like if if
- 22:00Speaker 8: your skill set is a good route runner, pass catcher,
- 22:03Speaker 8: that makes you a third a good option a third down.
- 22:05Speaker 8: But if you can't pick up protection, you fyd.
- 22:09Speaker 4: All right, when we come back, Chef Michael Johnson, munchies
- 22:13Speaker 4: right here on OTV.
- 22:15Speaker 1: Off the bench.
- 22:19Speaker 7: All right.
- 22:19Speaker 4: It is always a great time to go for dose.
- 22:22Speaker 4: It's bad when you go so longer. You're like, which
- 22:24Speaker 4: segment is this?
- 22:24Speaker 2: Go for a dose?
- 22:26Speaker 4: River beer, Lake Beer, Beach Beer, Pregame beer, Tailgate beer,
- 22:30Speaker 4: does not matter, right, it is always a great time
- 22:33Speaker 4: windows Sekis is involved.
- 22:34Speaker 2: It's like college football time.
- 22:37Speaker 4: Is there anything better setting up the tailgate, setting up
- 22:40Speaker 4: the tent, setting up the TV, getting the chairs out,
- 22:44Speaker 4: reaching into the ice chest, grabbing a nice cold dose sechies.
- 22:47Speaker 4: They have a website and everything as well. I don't
- 22:49Speaker 4: know if you know that. You can very age and
- 22:51Speaker 4: go to the website check it out. I hear that
- 22:54Speaker 4: the traffic's picked up over the last couple of weeks.
- 22:56Speaker 4: Don't really know why. That is always a great time
- 22:59Speaker 4: to go for dose.
- 23:01Speaker 8: Yeah, it's uh to lete some beers. Basically, what was
- 23:05Speaker 8: It's Thursday. It's basically the weekend. So if you've been
- 23:08Speaker 8: waiting for the weekend to kind of tie one on,
- 23:11Speaker 8: maybe have a couple of cold pops, make it a
- 23:13Speaker 8: do ski stay Thursday, my friend go for dose.
- 23:16Speaker 1: Doseekis from the locker room to the airwaves, gets off
- 23:33Speaker 1: the bench with Jacob Hester and Matt Flynn.
- 23:52Speaker 4: All right, welcome, I get a OTV one or four
- 23:54Speaker 4: five ESPN Ben rouge. This time, I'm going to remember
- 23:57Speaker 4: we actually have like a sounder and everything for our
- 23:59Speaker 4: next guests. And so let's get to some Monkeys with
- 24:02Speaker 4: Chef Michael.
- 24:03Speaker 1: Get ready to tantalyize your taste buds and leave this
- 24:06Speaker 1: segment hungry. This is Monkey's with Executive Chef Michael Johnson.
- 24:10Speaker 2: But Chef, what's going on, brother, How we're doing?
- 24:13Speaker 10: How we living good? Training camp? You know?
- 24:18Speaker 4: Yeah, like, you know, I feel like that first couple
- 24:22Speaker 4: of days is probably the toughest you got everybody coming in.
- 24:24Speaker 4: They're pretty hungry, probably after that first training camp practice.
- 24:28Speaker 10: Yeah, you know, it's interesting you develop, you pick up
- 24:32Speaker 10: on habits of the guys and it you know, one
- 24:36Speaker 10: year you'll have everybody that it rushes in there just
- 24:40Speaker 10: before seven o'clock or steven fifteen before they have to
- 24:43Speaker 10: check in. And and this year it's very reminiscent of
- 24:46Speaker 10: a twenty nineteen where the guys are coming in. They're
- 24:48Speaker 10: piling in the door as soon as we open up.
- 24:51Speaker 10: Kind of an interesting thing, you know, like you hate
- 24:53Speaker 10: to compare one to the other two much, but and
- 24:55Speaker 10: I keep hearing that in the news, but yeah, the guys,
- 24:59Speaker 10: you know, it's it's just an interesting habit that you know,
- 25:02Speaker 10: the majority of the guys are showing up right now
- 25:04Speaker 10: at six o'clock when we open the doors and they're
- 25:07Speaker 10: piling in and it's a different vibe this year.
- 25:10Speaker 4: There is something to that though, Chef and Flynn and
- 25:13Speaker 4: I always talk about it, like being a part of
- 25:15Speaker 4: our seventeen Like O six had a really good roster.
- 25:17Speaker 4: O six had four first round picks, and they were like,
- 25:20Speaker 4: we were really talented. We had a lot of you know,
- 25:23Speaker 4: big wins that year. But there was something different about
- 25:25Speaker 4: our group in seven and the things that you're talking about,
- 25:28Speaker 4: like going and eating at the cafeteria together and hanging
- 25:31Speaker 4: out you know, off the field and doing kind of
- 25:33Speaker 4: everything together. Like that seven team had that feel to it,
- 25:36Speaker 4: and I've heard that not just from you, Chef, but
- 25:38Speaker 4: from everybody. This twenty twenty five team has kind of
- 25:42Speaker 4: the same mannerisms, if you will, of the twenty nineteen
- 25:46Speaker 4: team when it comes to hanging out and kind of
- 25:48Speaker 4: the interaction they have.
- 25:50Speaker 10: Absolutely, you know, lots of different personalities from then to now,
- 25:53Speaker 10: but you know, as the over from an overarching look
- 25:57Speaker 10: and feeling perspective. Keep finding myself saying it and not
- 26:02Speaker 10: because I'm buying into it because I'm hearing it, but
- 26:04Speaker 10: because it's something that I have witnessed myself and seeing
- 26:07Speaker 10: and feeling myself.
- 26:08Speaker 8: Yeah, so we talk about He just brought it up
- 26:11Speaker 8: like our championship team, Like there's always something about a
- 26:14Speaker 8: team that is a championship then that you can't really pinpoint.
- 26:18Speaker 7: So I'll take it.
- 26:19Speaker 8: I'll take coming in at six am for food. I'll
- 26:21Speaker 8: take that as a good sign. So I like that.
- 26:24Speaker 7: I like that idea.
- 26:25Speaker 8: But I wanted to ask you, how's the we talked
- 26:27Speaker 8: about it last week. How's the logistics going. You're a
- 26:29Speaker 8: couple of days in the logistics, everything everything running smooth.
- 26:33Speaker 7: Inventory is good.
- 26:34Speaker 10: Yeah, you know, we're we're we are actually counting inventory
- 26:38Speaker 10: in the middle of all this, which is pretty chaotic.
- 26:40Speaker 10: You know, Once that's over and said and done, everything
- 26:43Speaker 10: will playing off and we'll we'll we'll find our stride.
- 26:46Speaker 10: But right now we're literally counting inventory in the middle
- 26:49Speaker 10: of trying to feed all these guys. And you know,
- 26:52Speaker 10: a lot of people don't know this, but we also
- 26:54Speaker 10: feed soccer and volleyball on top of those, on top
- 26:58Speaker 10: of the football team and in opposition of when they're there.
- 27:01Speaker 10: So I mean, we're feeding two hundred and fifty people
- 27:03Speaker 10: a day, you know, per meal. So it's it's it's
- 27:06Speaker 10: still a I mean, it's it's a grind. You know.
- 27:09Speaker 10: It's three three meals a day, seven days a week
- 27:11Speaker 10: for you know, football training camp. I think it's twenty
- 27:14Speaker 10: eight days, but because of the way the weeks straddle it,
- 27:17Speaker 10: I think before it's over said and done, it will
- 27:19Speaker 10: be thirty five days in a row. So you know,
- 27:21Speaker 10: you have to you have to, you know, be consistent,
- 27:25Speaker 10: you have to find your stride. You got to you know,
- 27:27Speaker 10: manage your emotions. You know what I mean. It's hot outside,
- 27:31Speaker 10: you know, and I think that lends itself to some
- 27:33Speaker 10: chaos every once in a while. So but for the
- 27:35Speaker 10: but for the most part, you know, like everybody looks
- 27:38Speaker 10: forward to training camp because it's an exciting time. Like
- 27:41Speaker 10: we get a lot of face time with football in
- 27:43Speaker 10: particular time of year, so we build relationships right now,
- 27:45Speaker 10: and that that's important for us.
- 27:49Speaker 7: Chef.
- 27:49Speaker 8: Are you said three meals a day? Are we also
- 27:52Speaker 8: prepping like like late night snacks and things for them,
- 27:55Speaker 8: Like I'm sure they're eating before some sort of meeting
- 27:57Speaker 8: or something at.
- 27:58Speaker 7: Nice So it's a good point. Yeah.
- 28:00Speaker 10: Actually, now that you say that, it's probably for meals
- 28:02Speaker 10: today because we actually do a meal prep for them
- 28:04Speaker 10: that's refrigerated. It's in our caliber of food, out quality
- 28:08Speaker 10: of food, and in a like a bento box or
- 28:10Speaker 10: a or a bowl or whatever you want to call it,
- 28:12Speaker 10: so that they can take it to the to the
- 28:14Speaker 10: hotel there and that will only be while they're in
- 28:17Speaker 10: the hotel until they move into their dorm rooms as such.
- 28:20Speaker 10: But yeah, that technically there is for and we do
- 28:24Speaker 10: we do do a late night snack for them to
- 28:26Speaker 10: take to go home with or to go to the
- 28:28Speaker 10: hotel with, so that they can they wake up or
- 28:30Speaker 10: if they want to get something to you before they
- 28:32Speaker 10: go to bed. That's there for them.
- 28:34Speaker 2: Training camps always that time too.
- 28:36Speaker 4: Nobody's gonna well, I say no, I'm speaking absolute, but nobody's.
- 28:39Speaker 2: Going to ever really come in overweight.
- 28:42Speaker 4: It's always like, all right, this guy lost seventeen pounds
- 28:45Speaker 4: today at practice. So, chef, how much of your conversations
- 28:50Speaker 4: with your staff and I know the dieticians obviously are
- 28:52Speaker 4: a big part of what y'all do as well well,
- 28:54Speaker 4: Like how much conversation do y'all have, because like y'all
- 28:57Speaker 4: play a big role in making sure that you know
- 28:59Speaker 4: these plays that are losing seven ten twelve whatever pounds
- 29:03Speaker 4: per practice that they're getting the fuel that they need.
- 29:06Speaker 10: Yeah, I mean, honestly, we it's a constant conversation this
- 29:10Speaker 10: time of year. It's a you know, like every before
- 29:12Speaker 10: and after every meal, we're touching with the dietician and
- 29:16Speaker 10: and you know, like she might bring to us somebody
- 29:18Speaker 10: that that is in special need of something. We also
- 29:22Speaker 10: opened ourselves up to you know, one of the Week's
- 29:24Speaker 10: brothers came to us yesterday. I was like, hey, you know,
- 29:26Speaker 10: when does the nutritions that are closed because I feel
- 29:28Speaker 10: like I want to eat again at like two o'clock
- 29:30Speaker 10: or we are you just still going to be overflowed? Yeah,
- 29:32Speaker 10: you know the sponsor to that is always say come back,
- 29:35Speaker 10: even if the doors are locked, we're gonna let you in.
- 29:36Speaker 10: We're gonna feed you. You know, training camp is not the
- 29:38Speaker 10: time and and and that's that's how our philosophy runs
- 29:42Speaker 10: most of the time, is you know, like we we're
- 29:44Speaker 10: gonna feed our athletes come come hell or high water,
- 29:46Speaker 10: and figure out how to get it done. But it's
- 29:49Speaker 10: it's a good sign when they're communicating with us and
- 29:52Speaker 10: they want to you know, like they want to talk
- 29:53Speaker 10: about food, they want to have influence about what's on
- 29:56Speaker 10: the menu that's all good stuff. That means they trust us,
- 29:59Speaker 10: you know, and us is a big thing for us.
- 30:01Speaker 10: You know, some years that the trust isn't there, and
- 30:04Speaker 10: it just has to do with the personality of the
- 30:06Speaker 10: of athletes. And now that we're six years in from
- 30:08Speaker 10: the development of the Performance Nutrition Center, we have trust
- 30:12Speaker 10: that's grown from when those guys were freshmen up to now,
- 30:16Speaker 10: you know, in the fifth years and the you know,
- 30:18Speaker 10: like in the seniors and the juniors have been with
- 30:20Speaker 10: us for long enough now that they're helping us navigate
- 30:24Speaker 10: through the younger guys who who don't know as well
- 30:27Speaker 10: yet that we're here for them, and you know, that's
- 30:31Speaker 10: it's just an important thing, you know, it's it's important
- 30:34Speaker 10: that they see that we're working in tandem with the dietitian,
- 30:37Speaker 10: that we're all telling the same story and saying the
- 30:39Speaker 10: same thing, so that you know, they they realize that
- 30:42Speaker 10: we're brought into them.
- 30:43Speaker 8: Do you all ever when you prep food for training camp?
- 30:45Speaker 8: Kind of to Jake's point, they're losing so much weight
- 30:48Speaker 8: during practice and during training, Like, do you work with
- 30:51Speaker 8: the dieticians?
- 30:52Speaker 7: Do you overly?
- 30:53Speaker 8: Do you oversalt some ingredients, Like I remember when we
- 30:56Speaker 8: were playing the Doctors, just like, yeah, just salt your
- 30:58Speaker 8: food more. Do you purposefully ever salt food more during
- 31:02Speaker 8: this time?
- 31:03Speaker 10: That's a great question. When I interviewed for this position,
- 31:06Speaker 10: I backed salt out of the diet, and that was
- 31:09Speaker 10: one of the one of the pieces of criticism that
- 31:11Speaker 10: came from you know, some of the some of the
- 31:14Speaker 10: most important people that were interviewing me was is listen,
- 31:17Speaker 10: we want to offer you the job, but just so
- 31:19Speaker 10: you know, you know, salting pulling salt out of the
- 31:22Speaker 10: diet is actually opposite of what we want. We want
- 31:25Speaker 10: salt in the diet. So we seasoned things we had.
- 31:28Speaker 10: We actually have a little area that has reduced salt
- 31:31Speaker 10: in it or reduced seasoning in it that we call it, affectionately,
- 31:35Speaker 10: we call the clean Station. But otherwise we season it
- 31:38Speaker 10: like we're in Louisiana, you know, like it's gonna be
- 31:41Speaker 10: I mean, I like my job, right, So yes, to
- 31:44Speaker 10: your point, we we definitely seasoned appropriately to where you know,
- 31:47Speaker 10: they they feel like they're at home and and you
- 31:50Speaker 10: know that's that's a mouthful there, you know, it's it's
- 31:52Speaker 10: not just about this evening It's about making them feel comfortable,
- 31:56Speaker 10: you know, because the stress is high during training camping,
- 31:59Speaker 10: and we want them to feel comfortable enough to eat.
- 32:02Speaker 10: We want the food to be comfortable enough that they
- 32:04Speaker 10: eat it, that we want it to be familiar so
- 32:06Speaker 10: that they eat it. Because we actually kind of lean
- 32:09Speaker 10: back a little bit on how on how healthy we cook,
- 32:12Speaker 10: and I mean, we still cook healthy, but we go
- 32:15Speaker 10: to more comfortable dishes and we don't push the themed
- 32:18Speaker 10: products as much and you know, like we're we're cooking
- 32:20Speaker 10: a lot of atsufe jambalaia stuff like that, because at
- 32:24Speaker 10: some point the stress is high enough and the heat
- 32:27Speaker 10: wears down enough that we're less concerned about the fact
- 32:31Speaker 10: that it needs to be you know, like this performance
- 32:33Speaker 10: nutrition food and more concerned about the fact that they're
- 32:36Speaker 10: just eating right. And because there's definitely guys who, you know,
- 32:40Speaker 10: they come off the field, they're hot, they're you know,
- 32:42Speaker 10: like they don't want eat. It's it's it's almost you know,
- 32:45Speaker 10: like a struggle for them to eat because they're tired,
- 32:49Speaker 10: worn out and just want to go to bed, right.
- 32:51Speaker 10: And so that's where we have to make sure that
- 32:53Speaker 10: the food is comfortable enough for them to look at
- 32:55Speaker 10: it and say, oh, you know, what, the hell with it?
- 32:57Speaker 10: I'm going to take some of this home with me
- 32:58Speaker 10: and eat it, you know, because it looks good, and
- 33:01Speaker 10: that that doesn't come from doing you know, uh bear
- 33:05Speaker 10: fried chicken necessarily, that comes from having Southern fried chicken,
- 33:09Speaker 10: right Nashville hot, you know like it? Yeah right, it
- 33:14Speaker 10: has to taste good, that's right.
- 33:16Speaker 4: All right there he is Chef Michael Johnson l s
- 33:18Speaker 4: U Executive Chef goodness to join us as he does

- 35:45Speaker 8: deal to become a trick.
- 35:47Speaker 9: But I was telling you yesterday we can we can
- 35:52Speaker 9: we whatever. It doesn't matter, I say, I was telling
- 35:56Speaker 9: you yesterday the b K press conference. I don't think
- 35:58Speaker 9: he gave anybody a good question.

- 36:38Speaker 4: and and Marlar did have the hand up and.
- 36:43Speaker 2: Seventeen minutes to.
- 36:45Speaker 8: Get those like little these three little interns to run
- 36:49Speaker 8: the mic.
- 36:50Speaker 7: To me, you had to stick that arm up for half.
- 36:53Speaker 6: But they should do it like UFC were, Like they
- 36:56Speaker 6: put a mic and you line up and you go
- 36:59Speaker 6: up to the mic instead of holding your hand.
- 37:01Speaker 4: Yeah, that would that would mean they'd have to get
- 37:05Speaker 4: up out of their chair walk to the microphone.
- 37:08Speaker 2: Such a more efficient way.
- 37:09Speaker 9: For them, though, to your point, a lot of those
- 37:12Speaker 9: guys about exercise a ton. What's worse having to hold
- 37:15Speaker 9: your hand up for ten minutes or getting up the walk?
- 37:17Speaker 7: It's a great boy, I mean.

- 37:53Speaker 9: Yeah, no, I was about say I love the Cowboys.
- 37:56Speaker 7: This show is a little too.
- 37:57Speaker 4: That was coming to if I'm if I if my
- 38:02Speaker 4: you know, Louisiana credentials aren't enough for you, I'd rather
- 38:05Speaker 4: East Texas in southern Arkansas.
- 38:07Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean it's like, you.
- 38:08Speaker 4: Know, twelve minutes from Texas, it's like an hour to Arkansas.
- 38:11Speaker 9: Yeah, you're way closer, But I mean how far are you?
- 38:15Speaker 9: And Flynn like grew up wise like not that.
- 38:18Speaker 8: Yeah, Yeah, I was Tyler's like right in between s
- 38:22Speaker 8: Report and Dallas.
- 38:23Speaker 7: Yeah, you can visualize that.
- 38:25Speaker 2: I mean it's like on the same plane.
- 38:27Speaker 4: It's like I thought it was Martiall, Longview Tyler yep,
- 38:32Speaker 4: and they were scared to make the drive over to Shreetport.
- 38:35Speaker 7: We're gonna take those knees out, chop box.
- 38:40Speaker 4: Like we beat the team, y'all couldn't be So that's
- 38:42Speaker 4: all I need to. You know, we beat long View
- 38:44Speaker 4: and Lufkin and Marshall.
- 38:45Speaker 8: Okay, sorry, district champs. I know it's honorable mention, but
- 38:48Speaker 8: district damn.
- 38:49Speaker 2: Yo were yeah senior year.
- 38:52Speaker 4: Yeah, beat them, and that's when you went to the
- 38:54Speaker 4: playoffs in the center snap.
- 38:56Speaker 8: We were five and one in district because we played
- 38:59Speaker 8: double around robbin Us, long View, uh liften and John Tyler.
- 39:04Speaker 8: Just four teams because the other two dropped out and
- 39:06Speaker 8: the Dallas teams did not want to be in a
- 39:09Speaker 8: district of us because they knew we'd beat up on him.
- 39:12Speaker 7: Uh So we had a four team district. So we
- 39:14Speaker 7: played everybody twice.
- 39:15Speaker 8: Long View got us the only time we lost with
- 39:16Speaker 8: long View in Longview.
- 39:18Speaker 2: Malcolm Kelly, yes, take case ye Calahoma, Yeah, tight end
- 39:24Speaker 2: and played for Florida.
- 39:26Speaker 8: And then the quarterback Joel Armstrong who was the first
- 39:29Speaker 8: team All district was he played quarterback at Rice.
- 39:34Speaker 2: You let a Rice al beat you?
- 39:36Speaker 9: Well, you start, it's how you finish. Anybody give a
- 39:40Speaker 9: crap that he's first team. You were in Natty champ
- 39:43Speaker 9: at l s U and he played for Rice. No offense, Joel.
- 39:45Speaker 7: But like, and I got that district championship ring.
- 39:51Speaker 4: And so y'all won honorable made rings for district.
- 39:55Speaker 2: Okay, okay, so y'all won.
- 39:57Speaker 7: It's like the championship bet you were still district honorable man. Yeah,
- 40:01Speaker 7: that's it. I didn't have big stats a stat hog.
