Latest / Sri Aurobindo Studies / The Forms That Prayers Take Match the Source of the Prayer in the Being
Transcript
- 0:01Many people formulate their prayers in the form of thoughts,
- 0:05and they are repeated according to a strict formula and ritual.
- 0:10In that case, if the mind is actively engaged in the prayer,
- 0:14it carries the power of the mental focus to tune the being
- 0:18to the frequency of the being who is the object of the prayer.
- 0:23Mental prayer generally requires an active linking to the will to
- 0:27become more than just mechanically repeated words with
- 0:31no energy behind them. But not all prayers are mental
- 0:35formations. Prayers can also arise from
- 0:39deeper in the being, from the vital level or the emotional
- 0:43being, or even from still deeper from the psychic being.
- 0:48In the case of a vital source of the prayer, it can enhance the
- 0:52aura or vital envelope of the person doing the praying and
- 0:56thus will take on the general form of that individual.
- 1:02The prayer arising from the psychic being embodies a
- 1:05palpable aspiration that unites the individual with the divine
- 1:10in a way that the more external forms of prayer cannot do.
- 1:15A disciple asks, do prayers and aspirations also take a form
- 1:20like thoughts the Mother observes?
- 1:23Quote Yes, at times they take even the form of the person who
- 1:28has the aspiration or makes the prayer.
- 1:31Often that depends. Aspiration sometimes takes the
- 1:35form of that to which one aspires, but most often and
- 1:39specially, prayers clearly take the form of the one who prays.
