Latest / Twin Cities Territory / Twins respond with rousing sweep of NL-East leading Braves
Transcript
- 0:01Speaker 1: Into extremely shallow left center for Lee and we'll see
- 0:07Speaker 1: next year. Get out of here, Braves go home. The
- 0:09Speaker 1: Twins with a fitting tribute on the thirty fifth anniversary
- 0:14Speaker 1: season of that nineteen ninety one World Series win by
- 0:17Speaker 1: making sure Atlanta leaves town with no wins in the
- 0:19Speaker 1: state of Minnesota. A frankly stunning sweep of the Braves
- 0:24Speaker 1: this week after what we saw just before it with
- 0:26Speaker 1: getting swept by the Phillies. But the Twins have bounced
- 0:29Speaker 1: right back and are back in position in the third
- 0:32Speaker 1: position in the ALE Wildcard standings at sixty three and
- 0:36Speaker 1: sixty five, a half game lead over the Rangers. There
- 0:42Speaker 1: this team seemed dead in the water after getting that
- 0:47Speaker 1: heartbreaking sweep in the hands of the Phillies. They turned
- 0:50Speaker 1: it around completely this week, guys, and it was just
- 0:53Speaker 1: they never trailed in the series. The pitching was lights
- 0:56Speaker 1: out from start to finish. The Bats did enough, and
- 0:59Speaker 1: it was the kind of series that you know, we've seen,
- 1:03Speaker 1: we've we've been here before on this roller coaster ride, Dan,
- 1:05Speaker 1: But it was the kind of series that restores faith
- 1:08Speaker 1: that they can actually do this and they are in
- 1:09Speaker 1: playoff position with thirty four games to go.
- 1:13Speaker 2: Before I speak, Can I make sure that this is
- 1:15Speaker 2: an anger free podcast. Had a recent podcast experience where
- 1:20Speaker 2: I was a guest and it was a little tense.
- 1:23Speaker 3: So let's just.
- 1:24Speaker 2: Everybody balance your chi's exactly, okay, deep breaths, all right,
- 1:32Speaker 2: now here we go. Yes, it was a very good series.
- 1:36Speaker 2: They needed it. And you know, it's so funny because
- 1:40Speaker 2: I think it's the last six Days is a microcosm
- 1:43Speaker 2: of the entire season to where it's like devastation on Sunday,
- 1:47Speaker 2: terrible series. You get your ass kicked twice by the Phillies,
- 1:51Speaker 2: then you come out have a five to nothing lead
- 1:53Speaker 2: and blow it. That's just straight devastation the way they were.
- 1:57Speaker 2: And it's so funny because in the middle of that,
- 2:00Speaker 2: you know, Byron Buckston tried to convince me that they
- 2:03Speaker 2: were doing the same things, and he at that time
- 2:07Speaker 2: wore his own runners in scoring position failures that day
- 2:11Speaker 2: without even being prompted, but he was.
- 2:13Speaker 3: He was adamant that things were fine.
- 2:16Speaker 2: Meanwhile, in the corner you have Gandhi aka Josh Bell
- 2:21Speaker 2: over there being calm and peaceful, same as he always is,
- 2:26Speaker 2: just being the steady guy and saying, you know, all
- 2:29Speaker 2: we need is a spark, and then he goes out
- 2:32Speaker 2: and creates the spark in the Twins world that he
- 2:34Speaker 2: wanted to see. He had the two run homer, the
- 2:38Speaker 2: two run double on Monday, that oppo Blue pit, and
- 2:42Speaker 2: that was like, oh, man, maybe things are going the
- 2:44Speaker 2: right direction for the Twins, because you know, the same
- 2:47Speaker 2: hit that Alc.
- 2:47Speaker 3: Bohm had the day before, except.
- 2:49Speaker 2: Bells kicked into the stands for an automatic basis loaded
- 2:52Speaker 2: double hits, the two run homer off Tyler Maley on
- 2:55Speaker 2: Tuesday night, drew the bases loaded, go ahead walk in
- 2:59Speaker 2: the fifth inning yesterday, grated back to hair and there
- 3:03Speaker 2: are a great played appearance there and then they blow
- 3:05Speaker 2: the lead and it's like, oh, that Phillies game is
- 3:08Speaker 2: creeping back in. And yet Josh Bell, maybe sensing that
- 3:11Speaker 2: ripped the base hit up the middle to start the
- 3:14Speaker 2: seventh in in one out rally, and it was hit
- 3:18Speaker 2: just enough to write center that he saw it and
- 3:20Speaker 2: knew that it was sort of a tweener for Michael
- 3:22Speaker 2: Harrison and Ronald Counya, who are both outstanding arms and
- 3:26Speaker 2: very good defensive players, and Josh Bell was just hustling
- 3:30Speaker 2: and took it, took second base and I have to imagine.
- 3:33Speaker 2: I wasn't there for Wednesday's game, but I have to
- 3:35Speaker 2: imagine it just absolutely fired up the dugout that their guy,
- 3:38Speaker 2: you know, this guy, it's all Steady, brings that energy
- 3:42Speaker 2: and that that you know, that drive to this team
- 3:46Speaker 2: because that's a lift, and what do you know, they
- 3:48Speaker 2: score two the bullpen just Cody Funderberg, you know, he
- 3:52Speaker 2: had a tough game, but everybody else really held the line,
- 3:57Speaker 2: and the Twins pulled off a stunt sweep. And here
- 4:00Speaker 2: we are, just three days after devastation, going this is crazy,
- 4:05Speaker 2: how is this possible? And then everybody else behind them
- 4:10Speaker 2: in the wild or everybody around them in the wild.
- 4:12Speaker 3: Card standings lost yesterday.
- 4:14Speaker 2: So here they are having three straight wins and they
- 4:18Speaker 2: are leading that third wildcard spot right now, which just
- 4:21Speaker 2: seems so improbable.
- 4:24Speaker 3: And it just makes me think, this is what the
- 4:26Speaker 3: Twin season is.
- 4:27Speaker 1: Like it is, and there will be more ups and
- 4:30Speaker 1: downs to come for sure, But like you mentioned, thunderbergs
- 4:34Speaker 1: ay that that sixth inning yesterday was the only bad
- 4:37Speaker 1: inning really for the pitching staff and the entire series.
- 4:40Speaker 1: And like going into the series, you're looking at Bailey
- 4:43Speaker 1: over He's been a little. Rocky's Abbie Matthews has had
- 4:45Speaker 1: some injury issues. Tash Bradley had had a rough start
- 4:49Speaker 1: last time out, like Chris Sale was supposed to pitch
- 4:51Speaker 1: and then didn't like it didn't look good going in,
- 4:54Speaker 1: but all three of the striders delivered. And even in
- 4:56Speaker 1: that sixth inning Tyler like it is death by paper cuts,
- 5:01Speaker 1: like it just it didn't didn't really feel like the
- 5:04Speaker 1: Braves had figured it out. They just found a few holes.
- 5:06Speaker 1: They got a fluke boch to score a run and
- 5:09Speaker 1: that we only blendish all week.
- 5:11Speaker 4: Yeah, it was just a weird ending and on the whole.
- 5:14Speaker 4: I mean, that's if that's all you have to worry about.
- 5:16Speaker 4: Like you're in a great spot, and you know you've
- 5:19Speaker 4: got a guy who's now got twenty saves anchor in
- 5:21Speaker 4: the back of that bullpen, like you know, it's crazy
- 5:24Speaker 4: to think he was a DFA claim, you know three
- 5:28Speaker 4: months ago. Now you know, the pieces we added are
- 5:31Speaker 4: showing up and doing exactly what we had hoped for.
- 5:35Speaker 4: The guys are settled into these roles that we talked
- 5:37Speaker 4: about early on. Nobody really had a role. It seems
- 5:40Speaker 4: like we know when Mentor's gonna throw we know when
- 5:42Speaker 4: when Hoffman is gonna throw, you know, we've got our guys.
- 5:46Speaker 4: They're going to file in and they're gonna get their
- 5:48Speaker 4: outs and get off the mound. And it's it worked,
- 5:51Speaker 4: and you know, it was it was exciting to watch
- 5:54Speaker 4: those games instead of you know, watching the Phillies series
- 5:57Speaker 4: and it was like, oh God, what's going to happen?
- 5:59Speaker 4: This one felt like, you're gonna have to make us
- 6:02Speaker 4: move because we're winning these games today. And you know,
- 6:05Speaker 4: to Dan's point, you know, Josh Bell getting hot. He
- 6:08Speaker 4: was hot earlier in this year. He's never been like
- 6:10Speaker 4: truly you know, non existent, but he's had his moments
- 6:13Speaker 4: where he's been like that heartbeat of that lineup, and
- 6:16Speaker 4: this weekend or this week was definitely a case of that.
- 6:19Speaker 4: I mean, he every time he looked up, he's on
- 6:21Speaker 4: base doing something, working that tough walk.
- 6:24Speaker 5: You know, the pieces.
- 6:25Speaker 4: That we need to be going right now are going
- 6:27Speaker 4: to support us when you know, the the anchor of
- 6:30Speaker 4: our rotation isn't there. You know, like you said, Bailey,
- 6:33Speaker 4: he's smoking mirrors in it a little bit and it's working.
- 6:36Speaker 4: You know, he's getting guys off the barrel. TODJ looked
- 6:38Speaker 4: like he's settled down, you know, post Field of Dreams game.
- 6:42Speaker 5: You know, it's it was a lot of a lot
- 6:44Speaker 5: of positives.
- 6:44Speaker 4: Against a really good team who, like we talked about before,
- 6:48Speaker 4: has World Series aspirations, so confidence has got to be
- 6:51Speaker 4: high off day to day. And Clements said they're going
- 6:54Speaker 4: to get some golf in, so that's always good for
- 6:55Speaker 4: the morale. You know, go have a few pops out
- 6:58Speaker 4: on the course and you know, get ready for tomorrow.
- 7:02Speaker 1: None of the games were routes obviously, four two four,
- 7:07Speaker 1: one six four, and I kind of like that, Like
- 7:10Speaker 1: every inning really it was tight and could have swung
- 7:13Speaker 1: either way every inning. Twins got big hits on on
- 7:17Speaker 1: in Tuesday night's game, after they got they got the
- 7:20Speaker 1: two nothing lead in the first inning, which, by the way,
- 7:23Speaker 1: scoring first in all three games hallelujah certainly helps. But
- 7:27Speaker 1: then like it was a two to one game and
- 7:29Speaker 1: it was tight, and then Jeffers comes up with a
- 7:30Speaker 1: big double to score two in the eighth on Tuesday,
- 7:32Speaker 1: and then it was Cody Clemens who had a great
- 7:34Speaker 1: week and has been has been on another level since
- 7:37Speaker 1: playing catch with his dad at the Field of Dreams,
- 7:39Speaker 1: which is just weird. But spooky, right Dan, But just
- 7:43Speaker 1: timely hits in big moments and tight games. Is the
- 7:46Speaker 1: kind of baseball you're gonna be playing if you make
- 7:50Speaker 1: it to October. And it was nice to see them
- 7:53Speaker 1: thrive in that environment.
- 7:55Speaker 2: Atlanta could have certainly used Byron Buckston these three days
- 8:00Speaker 2: only they listened, if only they listened to journey back
- 8:04Speaker 2: when when he had the Churney thought process going, and
- 8:10Speaker 2: you know, Landon needed Byron Buckston and they aren't gonna
- 8:13Speaker 2: get him, and anyways, I like, I just think about it, like, yeah, no,
- 8:20Speaker 2: it was Look this team, this team has shown the
- 8:23Speaker 2: capability of this at times. What I really liked on
- 8:25Speaker 2: the Monday Tuesday was how they rolled out entirely different relievers,
- 8:30Speaker 2: with the exception of Joendris Gomez, who, by the way,
- 8:33Speaker 2: pitched all three games and looked his best on the
- 8:36Speaker 2: third day, like he looked excellent, which is all.
- 8:39Speaker 3: You never know how the bodies go respond.
- 8:41Speaker 2: And that was his third time pitching three games in
- 8:45Speaker 2: a row, but the second time was over four days.
- 8:47Speaker 2: The first time was actually his first three games with
- 8:50Speaker 2: the club in Cleveland. He pitched all three I believe
- 8:53Speaker 2: maybe there were two in Cleveland and a third somewhere else,
- 8:56Speaker 2: but he he pitched three in a row there, and
- 8:59Speaker 2: he pitched three in a row this time, and his
- 9:01Speaker 2: stuff really helped, like it was amazing yesterday. He had
- 9:05Speaker 2: a good fast ball, he got some swing and miss
- 9:08Speaker 2: no I think he didn't have a swinging miss big
- 9:10Speaker 2: at the punch out looking on a Kunya and just
- 9:13Speaker 2: some weak contact and just seeing the depth to the bullpen.
- 9:18Speaker 2: Thunderbirk is the only guy that struggled in the whole series.
- 9:20Speaker 2: And by the way, he had an amazing moment on
- 9:22Speaker 2: Tuesday night when he came in when Zebbi gave them
- 9:26Speaker 2: five and two thirds but then couldn't get out of
- 9:28Speaker 2: the sixth, and Cody came in and struck out Lane
- 9:30Speaker 2: Thomas on four pitches and Lane Thomas had no shot,
- 9:33Speaker 2: first and third, two outs, one run game. Really I
- 9:38Speaker 2: agree with you is that that game was the exact
- 9:41Speaker 2: kind of game that they will will see down the
- 9:43Speaker 2: stretch and if they made the postseason and they handled
- 9:47Speaker 2: it well, because the bullpen just put up zero after
- 9:51Speaker 2: zero after zero, and it was Mentor and then one
- 9:55Speaker 2: minute it was Hoffman. In one minute, it's you know
- 9:59Speaker 2: more who looked as good as he had in a
- 10:02Speaker 2: while on Tuesday night. I think he hit ninety nine
- 10:04Speaker 2: to seven the other night, and he's gonna, Yeah, he's
- 10:08Speaker 2: gonna be a guy that I think he's going to
- 10:10Speaker 2: settle in because he had had the Saturday and Sunday,
- 10:12Speaker 2: and Sunday was very rough. He got babbitped, he had
- 10:16Speaker 2: the rise double off Martin's glove, he had the pop
- 10:20Speaker 2: up down the right field line when Royce was playing
- 10:22Speaker 2: in because there's a runner on third. He had he
- 10:26Speaker 2: had some really rough moments and he responded on Tuesday
- 10:29Speaker 2: with just an electric inning. But everywhere he looked at
- 10:32Speaker 2: the bullpen those innings were happening, with the exception of
- 10:35Speaker 2: Thunderbirk on Wednesday, they they showed what their bullpen can
- 10:39Speaker 2: do when fully capable. How about Travis Adams on was
- 10:42Speaker 2: that Monday two innings. Travis Adams was supposed to pitch
- 10:46Speaker 2: one inning in that spot, but he was so efficient
- 10:49Speaker 2: and electric in his one inning that Derek Shelton was like,
- 10:52Speaker 2: let's let's stretch him too and see if we can
- 10:53Speaker 2: get it. And he saved the bullpen by doing that
- 10:55Speaker 2: second inning. Right there, You see it like when there
- 10:59Speaker 2: are and this is the way It's always been to me,
- 11:02Speaker 2: if you have that anchor guy or two, and you
- 11:04Speaker 2: unders Gomez is proving to be like the stable guy
- 11:08Speaker 2: that they have in the ninth it's insane. He's nineteen
- 11:10Speaker 2: for nineteen with the twins and saves.
- 11:13Speaker 3: But when you have the.
- 11:14Speaker 2: Eighth, ninth inning roles settled in, it allows everybody else
- 11:17Speaker 2: to find their right slots. Travis Adams is a fifth
- 11:21Speaker 2: sixth inning guy, looks pretty damn good. Cody Funderberk as
- 11:25Speaker 2: one of your firemen, it looks pretty good. Like I
- 11:28Speaker 2: just think you look at the bullpen, it looks a
- 11:29Speaker 2: lot more settled right now. And that was that was
- 11:34Speaker 2: a key throughout this whole series. When you're playing tight
- 11:36Speaker 2: games all three days.
- 11:38Speaker 1: How much does that help Tyler to have those roles
- 11:40Speaker 1: figured out.
- 11:41Speaker 5: It's huge.
- 11:42Speaker 4: It's especially the guys who are still getting their feet
- 11:45Speaker 4: wet out there. You maybe haven't been bullpen guys their
- 11:47Speaker 4: whole career. You've got other guys like Morris who's settled
- 11:51Speaker 4: into some roles, but it is like your minds who
- 11:54Speaker 4: have win like Trevor May and I and Roge kind
- 11:57Speaker 4: of settled into that seven eight nine. It was really
- 12:01Speaker 4: easy to know exactly when you're gonna throw. When you
- 12:04Speaker 4: start getting ready to play catch, you start mentally getting
- 12:06Speaker 4: engaged in the game. You start going through your process,
- 12:10Speaker 4: and it gives everyone you know, the it's not even
- 12:13Speaker 4: lower leverage, it's just less you know.
- 12:16Speaker 5: The innings and the fifth and the sixth.
- 12:18Speaker 4: It is that like somebody needs to be a fireman,
- 12:20Speaker 4: you know, come in and get a quick out. We'll
- 12:22Speaker 4: see you tomorrow. Throw your ten pitches whatever it was.
- 12:24Speaker 4: You know I did that, And that's a great spot
- 12:26Speaker 4: to be. And when you know you're that guy, it's
- 12:29Speaker 4: really easy to get up for. And when you've settled
- 12:31Speaker 4: into your innings, it's just you show up to the
- 12:34Speaker 4: park every day. It's the same as Byron plans center
- 12:37Speaker 4: or Jeffer's behind the plate. When you know what you
- 12:39Speaker 4: have coming, it's so much easier to get ready for
- 12:42Speaker 4: your day and ramp up for your moment when it comes,
- 12:45Speaker 4: versus waiting all day anxiously trying to guess and play
- 12:49Speaker 4: chess the whole game, hoping you can figure out what
- 12:52Speaker 4: Chelt's thinking. You know what he and Peter are talking
- 12:54Speaker 4: about in the dugout. You know, those variables add up
- 12:57Speaker 4: over time, and it's one they've worked hard for. You know,
- 13:01Speaker 4: those guys out there have put in their innings, and
- 13:03Speaker 4: I mean guys innings are starting to stack up. Guys
- 13:06Speaker 4: first full years in the bullpen, first full years in
- 13:08Speaker 4: the big leagues, they're getting their full exposure, and it's
- 13:11Speaker 4: been good to see they you know, they haven't faltered.
- 13:14Speaker 4: You know, guys are going to have bad innings, that's
- 13:16Speaker 4: part of the game, but they've seemed to really solidified,
- 13:20Speaker 4: you know, what they're good at and how to come
- 13:22Speaker 4: in and just attack guys and trust in your stuff.
- 13:25Speaker 4: I think a lot of that comes to LaTroy being
- 13:27Speaker 4: out there and Roge for that matter. You know, two
- 13:29Speaker 4: guys who have been around a long time in the game,
- 13:32Speaker 4: been been in a lot of situations, been in postseasons,
- 13:35Speaker 4: things like that. Like that's uh, you know, between them
- 13:37Speaker 4: two a loan, it's thirty years in the big leagues.
- 13:39Speaker 4: So it's, uh, it's great to see it. It's you know,
- 13:42Speaker 4: it's fun to watch, and it's it's a calming aspect
- 13:45Speaker 4: of the game too. When your hitters know your bullpen's
- 13:47Speaker 4: going to come in and shut it down, they can
- 13:49Speaker 4: take a little bit of a breath. You know when
- 13:50Speaker 4: the starters know that you're gonna come in and slam
- 13:52Speaker 4: the door, it takes a weight off of them sometimes,
- 13:55Speaker 4: so it's it's everybody's feeding off of it, and it's
- 13:57Speaker 4: one you know when it's playing close games also helps
- 14:00Speaker 4: you know, it keeps everyone involved. You know, losing those
- 14:03Speaker 4: blots is when it gets ugly, but you know it's
- 14:06Speaker 4: playing close games like this against good teams, it keeps
- 14:08Speaker 4: everybody ready.
- 14:10Speaker 1: Thirty four games to go in playoff position. Yes, it
- 14:14Speaker 1: is thanks to the incredible weakness of the American League
- 14:17Speaker 1: overall that a team that is two games under five
- 14:20Speaker 1: hundred can be in that slot, but nevertheless pretty remarkable
- 14:23Speaker 1: considering the expectations for the team coming in. If you
- 14:26Speaker 1: want to follow along for this playoff push, we would
- 14:29Speaker 1: love to have you subscribe to wherever you like to
- 14:31Speaker 1: listen or watch. If you're on YouTube right now, there
- 14:33Speaker 1: is a QR code to make it real easy. More
- 14:36Speaker 1: on the Brave Sweep when we come back.
- 14:40Speaker 6: Hey, for those of you that are on your phone,
- 14:42Speaker 6: it's very often or even if you don't use it much,
- 14:45Speaker 6: you should check out your wireless bill and make sure
- 14:47Speaker 6: that it is treating you well. It's summertime. You're feeling good, right, AJ,
- 14:51Speaker 6: But are you spending too much on your wireless bill?
- 14:54Speaker 6: And should mint mobile get involved?
- 14:57Speaker 7: Some of them has two college aged kids. God, they
- 14:59Speaker 7: are always on their phone, whether it's they're checking their Snap,
- 15:01Speaker 7: they're checking their DMS, they're checking their Twitter. I need
- 15:05Speaker 7: fifteen dollars a month because I need unlimited quality coverage
- 15:08Speaker 7: that mintmobile provides.

- 15:41Speaker 1: I was gonna save this bit for the end. But
- 15:43Speaker 1: since Dan referenced it in his last Brands, a couple
- 15:49Speaker 1: good friends of ours had some news this week that
- 15:52Speaker 1: would be chucking.
- 15:54Speaker 3: Sure enough, whatever the hell that is.
- 15:58Speaker 1: You may remember h this Atlanta radio show and these
- 16:01Speaker 1: Atlanta radio hosts got a little tiff with us earlier
- 16:05Speaker 1: this season over some talk about by Ron Buxton's trade potential.
- 16:13Speaker 1: They were saying they were hearing that he would be
- 16:15Speaker 1: up for going to Atlanta. Dan was very adam and
- 16:18Speaker 1: Byron bucks it would not be traded. He of course
- 16:20Speaker 1: was not traded. It's all water under the bridge now.
- 16:22Speaker 1: But they announced, as you saw on that tweet, I
- 16:24Speaker 1: just showed on the screen that their show is coming
- 16:26Speaker 1: to you and end. They're just moving on to other programs,
- 16:28Speaker 1: not retiring. But I was gonna say this for the end,
- 16:31Speaker 1: but I'm hungry. So you know what, hats off to
- 16:33Speaker 1: those guys. This is thing's been sitting here. I'll show
- 16:36Speaker 1: they dubbed us ham and Eggers. So here's my tribute
- 16:39Speaker 1: to them.
- 16:40Speaker 3: Here we are, hey.
- 16:42Speaker 2: You know, you know they're moving on to other pursuits,
- 16:45Speaker 2: and I think again, this is when our heads need
- 16:48Speaker 2: to be honest. I told you guys, remember when you
- 16:50Speaker 2: turn your car on and you hear like is that
- 16:53Speaker 2: engine like that noise? Remember, they're still gunning for us.
- 16:56Speaker 2: They have veterans of many radio wars, that's right.
- 17:00Speaker 3: And they will they will, they will be.
- 17:04Speaker 2: No when they when. So anyways, keep an eye out.
- 17:08Speaker 2: Just heads on Swobo right now, guys. This is they're
- 17:10Speaker 2: trying to lull us to sleep.
- 17:12Speaker 1: We obviously are having fun with it. But it was
- 17:15Speaker 1: the first moment that our part it was like, Wow,
- 17:17Speaker 1: someone outside of our little bubble listens to our podcast.
- 17:19Speaker 1: That's crazy. So that was cool to see. And twenty
- 17:22Speaker 1: five years as a hell of her on, congrats to them.
- 17:24Speaker 2: That is that's that's really cool, like for real, And
- 17:27Speaker 2: you know what, I've heard from plenty of people that
- 17:30Speaker 2: they like doing those bits, and I look at the
- 17:32Speaker 2: people that follow them and some of the writers that
- 17:34Speaker 2: I know well that have been part of those bits,
- 17:37Speaker 2: and it's like it's a good crew of people. So
- 17:40Speaker 2: as much as uh, as much as I'm looking for
- 17:42Speaker 2: the car bomb, I I'm really not.
- 17:50Speaker 1: It speaks to how like great that series was for
- 17:54Speaker 1: the twins that we haven't even mentioned Luke Kishel or
- 17:58Speaker 1: Kaylen Culpepper yet. Raischel hasn't, like statistically, been one of
- 18:02Speaker 1: the best hitters in baseball. Now for a month and
- 18:04Speaker 1: a half, he had six hits over throughout the series.
- 18:07Speaker 1: Caln Culpepper, is it seven straight now that he's hit
- 18:11Speaker 1: safely in He's up to three twenty four after just
- 18:14Speaker 1: a couple of shows ago. We were talking about how,
- 18:17Speaker 1: you know, it can't be fun to look up to
- 18:18Speaker 1: the scoreboard and see a one starting your batting average.
- 18:21Speaker 1: But I'm sorry three fourteen. He's sitting now mostly singles.
- 18:24Speaker 1: He had that homer in his first game, but he
- 18:27Speaker 1: certainly has seemed to settle in at the plate at
- 18:29Speaker 1: least enough to hold his own. And I don't know
- 18:33Speaker 1: what have you been seeing from from him, Tyler that
- 18:36Speaker 1: stands out to you.
- 18:38Speaker 5: It's just settling in.
- 18:39Speaker 4: I think it's, you know, slowing the game down, you know,
- 18:41Speaker 4: like we watched those first few and it was just
- 18:44Speaker 4: guys executing against him.
- 18:46Speaker 5: You know, it's been triple A. Pictures are great.
- 18:48Speaker 4: Stuff is great, but the consistency of being actually in
- 18:52Speaker 4: the zone isn't always there. You know, you get to
- 18:55Speaker 4: the to the show and the lights are bright, and
- 18:58Speaker 4: the umpires are better and the pictures better. Everything's just
- 19:01Speaker 4: a tick up and it takes a little adjustment, and
- 19:05Speaker 4: it sometimes it takes guys longer than others, and it
- 19:08Speaker 4: seems like, you know, the power is gonna come. You know,
- 19:11Speaker 4: power also come. He's still a young kid, like he's
- 19:13Speaker 4: gonna keep getting stronger and things like that at this point.
- 19:16Speaker 5: Having him in that lineup.
- 19:18Speaker 4: Being a speed thread on the bases, you know, he
- 19:20Speaker 4: has I think they said seventeen bases in Saint Paul
- 19:23Speaker 4: before he got called up.
- 19:24Speaker 1: You know, he's a.
- 19:25Speaker 4: Thread on the base pass. He can make things happen.
- 19:29Speaker 4: It's it's just getting the ball in play is all
- 19:31Speaker 4: you can ask for. Seeing that ball hit the grass,
- 19:33Speaker 4: hit the dirt, being able to run those bases, and
- 19:35Speaker 4: it's the more comfortability comes. It just it starts the
- 19:38Speaker 4: snowball and you know he's building up some confidence. He's
- 19:41Speaker 4: going to get to see an exciting crowd this weekend
- 19:44Speaker 4: in San Diego, like we talked about before, he's gonna
- 19:47Speaker 4: get to see some of these guys he's probably watched
- 19:49Speaker 4: growing up in person. You know his generation, you know,
- 19:52Speaker 4: probably the Tatisa's, you know, the Machado's. Those are the
- 19:56Speaker 4: guys that he's watched growing up, and he's gonna get
- 19:59Speaker 4: to see him first hand, up close and personal, and
- 20:01Speaker 4: it's it's exciting. You know, it's the I don't know
- 20:04Speaker 4: if he's officially had his or not yet, you know
- 20:07Speaker 4: that that welcome to the big league's moment, you know,
- 20:09Speaker 4: like I remember facing Miguel Cabrera for the first time
- 20:11Speaker 4: and things like that. You know, he's getting those out
- 20:14Speaker 4: of the way and it's it's exciting to see.
- 20:17Speaker 5: It's what they want. It's what you want to happen.
- 20:18Speaker 4: When you call it a young guy, you want him
- 20:20Speaker 4: to you know, he hit the homer day one, got
- 20:22Speaker 4: that off his back. He made a few airs, you know,
- 20:25Speaker 4: looked a little shaky, and he's kind of realizing like, okay,
- 20:29Speaker 4: this is just baseball. And that's the hardest part. It's
- 20:32Speaker 4: telling yourself it's just baseball. You don't need to be
- 20:34Speaker 4: something different overnight. And the quicker you can do that,
- 20:37Speaker 4: the better, because then the rest smooth.
- 20:39Speaker 2: Salen I had I had a Yeah, I had a
- 20:43Speaker 2: great conversation with him during batting practice Monday, just about
- 20:47Speaker 2: the Duran at bat on Sunday and like how he
- 20:50Speaker 2: approached it and just hearing his thought process a day later,
- 20:55Speaker 2: like it was like, okay, yeah, this guy gets it.
- 20:59Speaker 2: He's like, hey, look kids, Daran, you know it's gonna
- 21:01Speaker 2: be everything's gonna be hard, so you stay like. He's like,
- 21:04Speaker 2: I don't want to strike out, and obviously he had.
- 21:08Speaker 2: You know, he's striking out twenty seven point five percent
- 21:10Speaker 2: of the time right now, which is probably.
- 21:11Speaker 3: A little higher than he wants to be. How higher
- 21:14Speaker 3: than the twins wanted to be.
- 21:15Speaker 2: But he he said, basically, my process was I was
- 21:20Speaker 2: thinking firm all along. I was thinking keep my hands
- 21:23Speaker 2: in and to basically look away from anything that was
- 21:28Speaker 2: down and then also get my foot down as quick
- 21:30Speaker 2: as possible. And so like, as he's explaining this process
- 21:32Speaker 2: to me, and I recognize he had a day to
- 21:35Speaker 2: think about it at that point, but he's he's going
- 21:38Speaker 2: through stuff, and I'm like, okay, so you're not overwhelmed
- 21:40Speaker 2: by this moment. Like here you are talking about this
- 21:42Speaker 2: a day later and it's not oh I got a
- 21:44Speaker 2: base hit off Yolanda Ruhn, who's the best closer in baseball.
- 21:47Speaker 3: It is here's how I approached it.
- 21:50Speaker 2: That tells me he's being able to slow this game down,
- 21:53Speaker 2: and which that's necessary. That's how you get going. And
- 21:56Speaker 2: he said it has felt like that. You know, the
- 21:59Speaker 2: first three days was Milwaukee. It was like forty two,
- 22:02Speaker 2: forty one and forty two thousand, and this is the
- 22:05Speaker 2: guy who's never played in something bigger than probably six
- 22:08Speaker 2: or seven eight thousand people at Saint Paul. You're you're
- 22:12Speaker 2: adjusting to that, and you're adjusting to the speed of
- 22:15Speaker 2: the game and realizing how fast. You know, maybe somebody
- 22:18Speaker 2: is down the line that you didn't Jackson Turio, maybe
- 22:20Speaker 2: you could take a ground from him, and you think, Okay,
- 22:24Speaker 2: I got time, and then you realize, oh, I don't
- 22:25Speaker 2: have time. But he hasn't looked rushed. I think he's
- 22:29Speaker 2: done a really good job of not looking rushed. And
- 22:32Speaker 2: we're seeing more evidence of that. He really hit the
- 22:35Speaker 2: ball well yesterday and the fun like we talked about
- 22:40Speaker 2: that eighth inning rally on Tuesday that put the game away.
- 22:43Speaker 2: It was his single ahead of Byron Buckston's pinch hit single,
- 22:48Speaker 2: and then Ryan Jeffers followed with the great Batman. Also,
- 22:52Speaker 2: what a great moment to see Byron flying around the
- 22:55Speaker 2: bases and showing us all, yeah, he's in good space,
- 22:59Speaker 2: because you know, he was trying to make Kivin Culpeper
- 23:01Speaker 2: think he could catch him, like Culpeper probably good.
- 23:05Speaker 1: Yeah, that's after he crossed on plate like got you.
- 23:08Speaker 2: Oh, you guys should have heard it in the clubhouse afterwards.
- 23:12Speaker 2: They have the smoke machine now, they they incorporated it
- 23:15Speaker 2: in the last homestand and I'm not kidding why yeah, oh,
- 23:18Speaker 2: I'm not kidding why I say this. You cannot see
- 23:21Speaker 2: from I could not identify guys through the smoke from
- 23:26Speaker 2: one side of the clubhouse the other. It's so crazy
- 23:28Speaker 2: in there. But I could certainly hear Byron Buxton and
- 23:31Speaker 2: Kaalen Culpepper laughing about the base running right there, like
- 23:36Speaker 2: Byron was letting him know, Hey, you might be young, kid,
- 23:39Speaker 2: you might have some wheels, but I'm right on you.
- 23:41Speaker 2: Still don't don't sleep on me that kind of thing,
- 23:44Speaker 2: because Buck almost caught him. But Culpepper just it's two
- 23:48Speaker 2: weeks right now since he got some majors, and uh,
- 23:51Speaker 2: it'll be his two week anniversary on Friday.
- 23:53Speaker 3: But it's really good, very good. Yeah.
- 23:57Speaker 1: You mentioned Dan on previous shows that, uh, part of
- 24:01Speaker 1: the logic for keeping Walker Jenkins out of the big
- 24:05Speaker 1: leagues right now is that the Twins maybe don't want
- 24:07Speaker 1: to be balancing two rookies on the team the first.
- 24:12Speaker 3: That's just he's looking pretty good.
- 24:14Speaker 1: I think maybe go ahead.
- 24:16Speaker 2: Yeah, no, look, look, look I don't I'm not going
- 24:19Speaker 2: to pretend to know what the reason.
- 24:24Speaker 1: Oh d we lost hang on, hang on, we lost
- 24:30Speaker 1: you right at I'm not going to pretend to know.
- 24:32Speaker 1: So pick it up from there.
- 24:33Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm not going to pretend to know why they
- 24:37Speaker 2: are why Walker Jenkins isn't here right now, Like I
- 24:41Speaker 2: think it could be seasoning the Twins, whatever thing it is,
- 24:45Speaker 2: they have the reason what I'd like to see Walker Jenkins, Yes,
- 24:47Speaker 2: who wouldn't want to see a top ten prospect? But
- 24:52Speaker 2: Kaitlyn Culpepper certainly is come up and done his part
- 24:55Speaker 2: right now, and that's what the Twins were hoping. And
- 24:57Speaker 2: they looked at it as Ryan Kraibler has given us
- 25:00Speaker 2: this great baseline defense, but Bat wasn't there. That was
- 25:03Speaker 2: a position of need one hundred percent where Colepepper could
- 25:08Speaker 2: provide an upgrade. And if Killen Culpeper plays really solid
- 25:13Speaker 2: defense and has a seven hundred plus OPS, They're gonna
- 25:16Speaker 2: that's that's really good. They want that that's because because Kreidler,
- 25:20Speaker 2: when he became an everyday guy, that offense that was
- 25:23Speaker 2: really promising when he was coming off the bench really
- 25:26Speaker 2: dropped and it was like he was like a five
- 25:28Speaker 2: hundred ops guy. I mean, yes, Kalen Culpeper certainly looks
- 25:33Speaker 2: like he like, that's not a concern if you want
- 25:36Speaker 2: to if you're worried about having two rookies at once.
- 25:38Speaker 3: I don't.
- 25:39Speaker 2: I again, I'm not prom like, I don't know what
- 25:42Speaker 2: the reason is for why Walker Jenkins to the fire.
- 25:45Speaker 2: Would I like to see him, of course I would,
- 25:48Speaker 2: But I think that they want him to play every day,
- 25:51Speaker 2: and I don't think that they want to bench Luke Kishael,
- 25:54Speaker 2: who's incredibly on fire. They don't Byron Buckston. They believe
- 25:58Speaker 2: is healthy and he's gonna be in center field most
- 26:01Speaker 2: days of the week. I just look, I'm not even
- 26:04Speaker 2: trying to like figure it out as to why Walker
- 26:07Speaker 2: Jenkins isn't.
- 26:08Speaker 3: Here, But he's not. That's that's just the fact. And
- 26:13Speaker 3: and you know they're.
- 26:15Speaker 2: They is Uh, it's been interesting that topic, is uh
- 26:21Speaker 2: for sure fun. I mean, he hit an opposite field
- 26:23Speaker 2: home run last night. He is he is definitely playing
- 26:26Speaker 2: really well at Triple A and could he help probably,
- 26:30Speaker 2: But also I think they again want to continue to
- 26:32Speaker 2: see Alan Roaden. Alan Roaden is having his best month.
- 26:36Speaker 2: It's limited plate appearances. It's like a six seventy five. Ops,
- 26:40Speaker 2: that's not great. You want more, I know is expecting numbers.
- 26:43Speaker 2: They keep looking at that, and they think there's more
- 26:46Speaker 2: in there, and they're going to keep looking at that
- 26:48Speaker 2: because that's why they traded for.
- 26:49Speaker 3: Alan Roaden in the first place. So they the twins
- 26:53Speaker 3: have their reasons for it. Again.
- 26:55Speaker 2: I wish I like, I wish I could explain it
- 26:58Speaker 2: better because I know that fans out there want to
- 27:00Speaker 2: sea Walker Jenkins, who doesn't want to see Walker Jenkins.
- 27:04Speaker 3: He is gonna be amazing like but he's not here.
- 27:08Speaker 2: So I don't know what more there is to be
- 27:11Speaker 2: said about it right now.
- 27:13Speaker 1: Great answer. We will take a quick break tea up
- 27:15Speaker 1: the weekend in San Diego. Right after that, we have
- 27:22Speaker 1: pop in colors for Mack Weldon.
- 27:24Speaker 6: Here, I've got a little green shade, You've got a
- 27:26Speaker 6: nice blue shade, and what else do you love about
- 27:28Speaker 6: mack Weldon?
- 27:29Speaker 8: Crats, I can be head to toe with Mack Weldon.
- 27:33Speaker 8: I have the underwear. I have the shorts, I have
- 27:35Speaker 8: the pants, I have the socks. Obviously we got the
- 27:38Speaker 8: shirt and the jackets. But it's head to toe comfort
- 27:42Speaker 8: no matter what piece they send.
- 27:44Speaker 3: I even have a belt that looks sick.
- 27:46Speaker 6: And make sure you check out mack Weldon's air Knit

- 28:15Speaker 6: d O N dot com code foul.
- 28:19Speaker 1: We are back, Twins are off to San Diego. Get
- 28:22Speaker 1: to that in just a second. One other topic that
- 28:24Speaker 1: we have not addressed yet because it broke Tuesday after
- 28:27Speaker 1: we recorded our last show. Joe Ryan Dan threw a
- 28:30Speaker 1: bullpen on Tuesday.
- 28:32Speaker 2: What's the latest there, Yeah, Joe Ryan twenty twenty five
- 28:37Speaker 2: pitch bullpen session all fastball sinkers basically is the first
- 28:41Speaker 2: time off the mound since he's gone on the IL.
- 28:43Speaker 3: He did say that basically.
- 28:45Speaker 2: They've done a lot of flat ground works since then
- 28:48Speaker 2: and it was time to graduate to the mound and
- 28:50Speaker 2: see if some of the changes that they were trying
- 28:52Speaker 2: to incorporate can work. He still seemed if he he
- 28:57Speaker 2: did say it was a step in the right direction,
- 28:59Speaker 2: but also his conviction and his answers wasn't one hundred percent. Meanwhile,
- 29:04Speaker 2: Derek Shelton and Pete Mackie both came out of it
- 29:07Speaker 2: very encouraged. I think they're trying to let Joe know, hey,
- 29:10Speaker 2: this does look normal to us. Maybe you're not feeling
- 29:14Speaker 2: it's normal yet, but this looks good, and let's take
- 29:17Speaker 2: the next step and there will be a bullpen, probably
- 29:19Speaker 2: while we're in San Diego, as my guess, But I
- 29:23Speaker 2: still think it's a little bit of ways. You know,
- 29:26Speaker 2: I don't know what he is, like, what it will take,
- 29:30Speaker 2: because there will probably be a rehab start there, I'm guessing,
- 29:34Speaker 2: But definitely the fact that he's at least getting the
- 29:38Speaker 2: throwing off the mound is a good sign they need him,
- 29:41Speaker 2: and I mean, if you can get Joe Ryan back,
- 29:43Speaker 2: and I don't know what we should expect.
- 29:44Speaker 3: I really don't know what we should expect.
- 29:46Speaker 2: Somewhere in between the nine thirty nine guy and the
- 29:49Speaker 2: All Star, the nine thirty nine ear a guy in
- 29:51Speaker 2: the All Star or is it going to be closer
- 29:54Speaker 2: to the guy that's struggling, or is it going to
- 29:56Speaker 2: be closer to the first half. But I do know
- 29:58Speaker 2: the Twins absolutely could use him back for these thirty
- 30:00Speaker 2: four games, whatever they can get. If they could get
- 30:02Speaker 2: three or four starts out of him, that would be massive.
- 30:06Speaker 2: You need your leader, you need your All Star. I
- 30:09Speaker 2: think Byron Buxton we're just starting to see him come around.
- 30:12Speaker 2: I don't think that the Twins are have reservations about
- 30:15Speaker 2: Byron Buckson's health. I think Byron Buckson is being reserved
- 30:18Speaker 2: to make the hip, you know, just make sure the
- 30:20Speaker 2: hip is good. But I think that you know, this
- 30:24Speaker 2: is go time, and having Joe Ryan back and having
- 30:28Speaker 2: a healthy Byron Buckson really can be difference makers for
- 30:31Speaker 2: this team down the stretch. So encouraging for sure, But
- 30:35Speaker 2: I want to hear from Joe after his next bullpen
- 30:37Speaker 2: just to see what the what the audio sounds like,
- 30:40Speaker 2: because he did say again, step in the right direction,
- 30:43Speaker 2: but it was there was a little hesitation there still.
- 30:47Speaker 1: Yeah, Tyler, we just got done praising the pitching staff. Yeah,
- 30:51Speaker 1: there's no doubt that him coming back to something close
- 30:54Speaker 1: to his first half form would completely change the outlook
- 30:57Speaker 1: for this team.
- 30:58Speaker 4: Oh yeah, it's huge, you know, especially coming into these
- 31:01Speaker 4: games against your rivals, and you know, he's had success
- 31:04Speaker 4: against guys you know, within the division, you know, and
- 31:08Speaker 4: even if he's not one hundred percent, if he's eighty
- 31:10Speaker 4: five percent, whatever that is. You know, getting through five
- 31:13Speaker 4: innings consistently is all we seemingly need at this point
- 31:16Speaker 4: with the bullpen being solidified, and so you know, him
- 31:19Speaker 4: being off the mound is always a good sign. That
- 31:22Speaker 4: means guys are clearing some check checks boxes that they
- 31:25Speaker 4: need with the training staff, you know, And like Dan said,
- 31:30Speaker 4: Joe is not one to disguise very well at how
- 31:33Speaker 4: he's actually thinking. So you know, if he's seeming like
- 31:37Speaker 4: he's not feeling right quite yet, like that's probably right.
- 31:41Speaker 4: But it is good to hear too that Chelsea and
- 31:43Speaker 4: Pete saw it, you know, because sometimes the field versus
- 31:46Speaker 4: real thing is hard for us as players, you know,
- 31:50Speaker 4: it's it just doesn't come out right or whatever.
- 31:52Speaker 5: It doesn't feel right.
- 31:53Speaker 4: But all everything's the same, and sometimes you need somebody
- 31:56Speaker 4: else to tell you, like, hey man, you're fine. You know,
- 31:59Speaker 4: as long as you're hip, it's good. Everything else looks great,
- 32:02Speaker 4: you know. So hopefully, you know, it's shorter than later,
- 32:05Speaker 4: And like I said, you know, get him back before
- 32:07Speaker 4: these Central Division games start at the end of the day,
- 32:10Speaker 4: that's all that really matters. Get him some starts against
- 32:12Speaker 4: guys that we need to beat, you know, and obviously
- 32:15Speaker 4: you want to be healthy. But at the same time, like,
- 32:17Speaker 4: no matter what happens, if it doesn't go well for
- 32:19Speaker 4: the rest of the team in a month, it season's
- 32:22Speaker 4: over anyways, so is if he can be out there
- 32:24Speaker 4: and be better than whatever the next option is, Like
- 32:27Speaker 4: you got to have Joe, So hopefully it's sooner than later.
- 32:31Speaker 5: But you know, obviously you want to be healthy when
- 32:33Speaker 5: he gets back out there.
- 32:35Speaker 1: Up next, San Diego, best ballpark in the league at
- 32:38Speaker 1: least that's weather in the league for sure. Only meeting
- 32:43Speaker 1: this year with the Padres. They are also the third
- 32:47Speaker 1: wildcard team in their league. In the NL sixty eight
- 32:49Speaker 1: and sixty Friday.
- 32:52Speaker 3: Really good baseball, playing good baseball.
- 32:55Speaker 1: Keys to the game, Dan, maybe you just don't hit
- 32:58Speaker 1: the ball anywhere near for Nando Tatis, that would be
- 33:01Speaker 1: a good to catch the other night.
- 33:04Speaker 3: Yeah, that was a cinematic what a highlight, man.
- 33:07Speaker 2: And you know, like, I don't know, you're going into
- 33:12Speaker 2: a tough place. We saw. I look the we saw
- 33:16Speaker 2: two of the better teams in the NL East right there,
- 33:19Speaker 2: the best team record wise and the second best team.
- 33:22Speaker 2: And I think, like when I'm clearly you're biased by
- 33:26Speaker 2: the results, but that Phillies team looks better than the
- 33:30Speaker 2: Braves do right now. I think you can make an
- 33:32Speaker 2: argument that the Padres are playing much better than the
- 33:35Speaker 2: Dodgers right now. Even though the Dodgers have positional standing.
- 33:39Speaker 2: The Patres are twelve and six in August. They're playing great.
- 33:42Speaker 2: This is could be very challenging. Like I hate to
- 33:44Speaker 2: go in and say get one, but if you can
- 33:47Speaker 2: get one, you're gonna feel lucky. That place is electric stuff.
- 33:50Speaker 2: You've seen it, especially, I know you saw it in
- 33:52Speaker 2: twenty twenty two. I remember you telling me about it,
- 33:54Speaker 2: and I didn't get to go on that series because
- 33:55Speaker 2: I had COVID and I was so pissed, but it
- 33:59Speaker 2: was like what San Diego like is like right now
- 34:02Speaker 2: with the fans going is amazing and it's a challenging environment.
- 34:07Speaker 3: Two years ago was a very tough series.
- 34:09Speaker 2: The Twins got one in that Simeon Woods Richardson pitched
- 34:12Speaker 2: a really good game on the Wednesday finale, but they
- 34:14Speaker 2: had some tough moments. Bailey Over was throwing a gem
- 34:17Speaker 2: one night and Manny Machado tied it up with the
- 34:19Speaker 2: two run homer and like all of a sudden, that
- 34:21Speaker 2: game blew up, and like, the Padres are good and
- 34:24Speaker 2: it's a really they have a very big home field
- 34:27Speaker 2: advantage with the forty two thousand strong even if it's
- 34:31Speaker 2: you know, this is a weekend.
- 34:32Speaker 3: So last time it was a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and
- 34:34Speaker 3: it was sellouts for all three nights, so it will be.
- 34:40Speaker 1: Well. You mentioned after the Field of Dreams game on
- 34:43Speaker 1: our Showdan if they had they were staring at an
- 34:46Speaker 1: eight game stretch coming up of Philly's Braves Padres, that
- 34:49Speaker 1: they could just go four and four somehow in those
- 34:51Speaker 1: eight games that looked next to impossible. At the end
- 34:55Speaker 1: of the Philly series, I knew it.
- 34:56Speaker 2: I knew it when I said it, and now they
- 34:58Speaker 2: need one if they can get one. They went eight
- 35:00Speaker 2: to eight, just like yes, like that's I'm sorry they
- 35:03Speaker 2: would go four and four. Uh yeah, yeah, that was
- 35:06Speaker 2: San Diego State math where you're right there by eight
- 35:08Speaker 2: and eight, but no, like get there like.
- 35:12Speaker 3: This is you got through your toughest stretch.
- 35:15Speaker 2: Then you get to go to Sacramento and play the Athletics,
- 35:17Speaker 2: and then you get a bunch of games in your
- 35:19Speaker 2: division against teams that now the White Sox have played
- 35:23Speaker 2: good baseball lately and they're they're they got a four
- 35:26Speaker 2: game leading the division. But you're facing similarly skilled teams
- 35:31Speaker 2: in Chicago and Detroit and you have a chance to
- 35:34Speaker 2: really make an impact in the division and in those
- 35:37Speaker 2: wild card standings right there. So get one more, maybe
- 35:41Speaker 2: you get lucky and you get two more in San Diego.
- 35:44Speaker 2: But you know they're going in a great spot, like mentally,
- 35:47Speaker 2: coming off of this sweep of the Braves. So it's
- 35:50Speaker 2: a lot better position than they were a couple of
- 35:52Speaker 2: days ago. It's just this team has had so much
- 35:54Speaker 2: trouble maintaining consistency and and keeping the ball rolling forward.
- 35:58Speaker 2: They get the ball to the top of the hill,
- 36:01Speaker 2: and they pushed it all the way up, and then
- 36:03Speaker 2: it falls back a second and rolls back over them
- 36:06Speaker 2: and squashes them, and then they catch it part way
- 36:08Speaker 2: down the hill, and then they roll it back up
- 36:09Speaker 2: the hill again. Let's keep doing that over and over again.
- 36:13Speaker 2: It's been a weird year.
- 36:14Speaker 1: I dug up a stat yesterday that and this was
- 36:18Speaker 1: I pulled this during yesterday's game, so that's possible some
- 36:21Speaker 1: of this has changed a bit. But versus the teams
- 36:25Speaker 1: that are currently had the top the three best records
- 36:29Speaker 1: in baseball, the Twins are three and twelve this season.
- 36:32Speaker 1: That's the Brewers, Rays, and Dodgers versus teams four through
- 36:38Speaker 1: twenty one, so all of the teams from very good
- 36:41Speaker 1: to just below average. The Twins, by the way, are fifteenth,
- 36:44Speaker 1: so they're in that mix too, but they are forty
- 36:47Speaker 1: five and thirty one against that group of teams fourteen
- 36:50Speaker 1: games over five hundred, and then versus teams twenty two
- 36:54Speaker 1: through thirty they are fifteen and twenty two, So that
- 36:58Speaker 1: is that is.
- 36:59Speaker 3: Three big series against those teams. The rest way they
- 37:01Speaker 3: have that's those Royal they have the Angels, and.
- 37:03Speaker 1: They have the Giant Giants, even yes, it's the Royals,
- 37:07Speaker 1: it's the Mets, like just all that. And even if
- 37:11Speaker 1: you even if you include the top three teams in
- 37:13Speaker 1: with four through twenty one, there's still five games over
- 37:16Speaker 1: five hundred against the twenty best teams in baseball and
- 37:20Speaker 1: it's just that bottom of the pile that's that's completely
- 37:23Speaker 1: sunk them. So like, that's just another example of how
- 37:27Speaker 1: you just don't know with this team. Of course, they
- 37:29Speaker 1: can sweep the Braves after getting swept by the Phillies,
- 37:31Speaker 1: and then next week they could get sweet swept by
- 37:33Speaker 1: the A's, like who knows, but Tyler like, they're they're
- 37:37Speaker 1: very close to at least getting to that division stretch
- 37:39Speaker 1: with a chance to do some damage. And we didn't
- 37:41Speaker 1: even mention that they're they're at four out in the Central.
- 37:43Speaker 1: It's still not over there either, and they've got six
- 37:45Speaker 1: left with Chicago and getting to that stretch in around
- 37:48Speaker 1: this position is going to make that the make or
- 37:51Speaker 1: break two weeks of the season, it seems, yeah, And.
- 37:54Speaker 5: It's what you want. It's all you asked for, you know.
- 37:57Speaker 4: The beginning of the year, it was they're going to
- 37:59Speaker 4: lose one hundred games, blah blah blah.
- 38:00Speaker 3: You know, here we are.
- 38:02Speaker 4: We've been talking about playoffs for two months now. It's
- 38:05Speaker 4: it's what you want as a player, as a coach,
- 38:07Speaker 4: as a fan, as anybody.
- 38:09Speaker 5: You're playing meaningful, meaningful games.
- 38:11Speaker 4: When September is around the corner, you know you're gonna
- 38:14Speaker 4: match up with the foes that you've played forever, the
- 38:18Speaker 4: team you root for to lose when you're watching TV
- 38:20Speaker 4: before and after the games, you know, I've got great
- 38:23Speaker 4: memories of waiting on the White Sox to lose so
- 38:26Speaker 4: we could clinch, you know, things like that. It's just
- 38:29Speaker 4: it's the best time of year for baseball. It's exciting
- 38:32Speaker 4: to show up to the yard every day. It gives
- 38:33Speaker 4: you some inspiration, honestly, because you know, the August rolls around.
- 38:37Speaker 4: You've been playing since February. Uh, it gets to be
- 38:40Speaker 4: a long season. But it's that extra gear you find
- 38:44Speaker 4: when you realize there's a lot more to be had,
- 38:46Speaker 4: you know, and these young guys, you know there's there's
- 38:48Speaker 4: gonna be The meetings start talking about playoff shares and
- 38:51Speaker 4: things like that, and it's like these murmurs start and
- 38:54Speaker 4: you're like, whoa, what's going on here? And it's like,
- 38:56Speaker 4: this is what playoffs are, and stuff starts to change
- 38:59Speaker 4: and it gets exciting. It's and it's no more pressure,
- 39:02Speaker 4: it's nothing, nothing different, it's just uh, it's things you
- 39:05Speaker 4: get to get excited about again. You know, when you
- 39:08Speaker 4: first get to spring, it's like getting on the grass
- 39:09Speaker 4: and taking ground balls first time.
- 39:11Speaker 3: Whatever.
- 39:11Speaker 4: And now it's like, wait, we can be on postseason,
- 39:14Speaker 4: you know, playing on you know, there's only so many
- 39:16Speaker 4: games at night, you know, whatever, it is, all the
- 39:18Speaker 4: dreams you had as a kid can start to become
- 39:20Speaker 4: a reality. And you know, it's it's something exciting and
- 39:24Speaker 4: it's great as a fan to be able to sit
- 39:26Speaker 4: back and watch and know, you know, the scoreboard watching
- 39:29Speaker 4: is worth it.
- 39:30Speaker 1: Now. Yeah, some late starts coming up in the next
- 39:34Speaker 1: six games with the Twins on the West Coast. It's
- 39:36Speaker 1: eight forty on Friday night, Tomorrow night Connor prelypic, it's
- 39:40Speaker 1: Randy Vasquez scheduled starters Saturdays at seven forty Dean Kramer
- 39:44Speaker 1: and Casey miz and Sunday three ten Bailey over against
- 39:49Speaker 1: Walker Buehler.
- 39:52Speaker 2: You should have a cool feature on the Athletic coming
- 39:54Speaker 2: up on Dean Kramer. All right, late Friday night, so
- 39:58Speaker 2: Friday night reading during in that game. Maybe Saturday, maybe
- 40:02Speaker 2: Saturday morning before his start. But yeah, yeah, it should
- 40:06Speaker 2: be an interesting.
- 40:06Speaker 1: Series real quick. Before we go, must also shut out
- 40:12Speaker 1: a new fantastic meme that the Twins gave the world
- 40:14Speaker 1: this week. This sad dog in the rain. Yes, this uh,
- 40:21Speaker 1: this dog was so popular that he was actually trending
- 40:23Speaker 1: on Twitter under under the headline drenched dog at Twins
- 40:27Speaker 1: game becomes sadness meme icon. And obviously I'm not playing
- 40:31Speaker 1: the video here on YouTube, but it's just it's just
- 40:34Speaker 1: heavy rain pummeling. This poor dog was.
- 40:38Speaker 3: Last year looking animal it does. I think this came
- 40:44Speaker 3: from the twenty twenty five seasons.
- 40:46Speaker 2: Okay, okay, somehow started surfacing because I asked the social team.
- 40:51Speaker 2: I was like, I was like, where's the origin of this?
- 40:53Speaker 2: And they were like, we think it was from last year.
- 40:55Speaker 2: We don't know how it came about. So it's pretty amazing.
- 41:00Speaker 2: Is amazing.
- 41:01Speaker 1: Yes, Fortunately we don't have to use it to describe
- 41:03Speaker 1: their play today, but we'll keep it in the hole
- 41:06Speaker 1: stage just in case. Thanks again, everybody, please follow along.
