Transcript
- 0:00I woke up on September 1st with one word, and it wasn't discipline, not hustle, not,"God, I gotta get my shit together.
- 0:09I have four months left." Just commitment.
- 0:14And at first, I thought commitment meant I needed to tighten everything up.
- 0:17I needed to make a plan.
- 0:18I need to review my goals.
- 0:19I needed to fix the habits, become a more impressive version of myself before January rolls around again.
- 0:25But then I realized something.
- 0:28Commitment does not have to mean control.
- 0:32It can mean devotion.
- 0:35It can mean I'm willing to stay present with my actual life.
- 0:39And that brought me into the question I haven't been able to stop thinking about.
- 0:44I wonder what would happen if I allow Welcome back to the Spiritual Shit Show, the place where we talk about the beautiful, uncomfortable, miraculous, deeply human mess of becoming.
- 1:00Scratch that.
- 1:01Remembering who we are.
- 1:04Today, I wanna talk about commitment.
- 1:07not the kind that feels like a clenched fist, a color-coded spreadsheet, Not the kind that says,"If I just become more disciplined, more productive, do more, become more organized, more healed, more evolved, then I'll finally be allowed to feel good about myself." No.
- 1:36I wanna talk about the kind of commitment that says,"I am here.
- 1:42I am paying attention.
- 1:44I am willing to participate in my own life.
- 1:48I am willing to stop abandoning myself every time things get uncomfortable, unclear, slow, imperfect I woke up September 1st with the word commitment, and it made me wanna go back, back into the journals, Back to the January and the version of me standing at the beginning of 2026 asking all the very beautiful, very hopeful questions.
- 2:15What do I wanna experience this year?
- 2:17What do I wanna feel?
- 2:18What do I wanna create?
- 2:20What do I wanna do more of?
- 2:22What do I want to allow more of?
- 2:25Who am I going to allow myself to become?
- 2:28What do I want to be proud of myself at the end of 2026?
- 2:34And now here we are in September, four months left in the year.
- 2:39And in four months, so many of us are gonna do the same thing again.
- 2:43The new journal, the new vision board, the new word, the new intentions, the new goals, the fresh energy.
- 2:51And this proclamation of this is what this year is going to be.
- 2:57And I love all of that.
- 3:01And a lot of the times when we hit the new year, we're like,"Ugh, I just wanna get rid of it.
- 3:05I want a fresh start.
- 3:06I want a new beginning.
- 3:08I want, ah, new opportunities.
- 3:09Last year was so horrible.
- 3:11Last year was so taxing," or last year whatever.
- 3:13And listen, I love a fresh notebook and new beginnings and manifesting and a new vision board.
- 3:19I love the feeling of hope.
- 3:22I love the feeling of fresh experiences.
- 3:28I love the feeling of that we get to begin again.
- 3:33But I also think sometimes we get so addicted to becoming that we completely miss the person we already are.
- 3:39We get so focused on who we are trying to be that we stop being with who is here now.
- 3:47We make our lives into endless self-improvement projects.
- 3:52That's me for sure We can make our lives into endless self-improvement projects, and then we wonder why nothing ever feels like enough.
- 4:05Because there is always another habit to fix, another wound to unpack, another goal to reach, another version of ourselves to attain, another thing we believe we must manifest, have, do, create.
- 4:20And maybe this is your reminder.
- 4:25You do not need to turn yourself into a renovation project in order to be worthy of your own presence.
- 4:35You can have dreams.
- 4:37You can have goals.
- 4:39You can want change.
- 4:42You can want more money, more love, more health, more freedom, more creativity, more peace.
- 4:48And wanting more does not mean you are ungrateful, but constantly withholding love or rest or enjoyment or acceptance from yourself until you arrive, well, that can be the hamster wheel that we're actually trying to get out of Sometimes when we were so ambitious and we are so focused towards our goals, what we're really dancing with here is fear dressed as ambition For a long time, I confused commitment with intensity, with sacrifice, with depletion of self.
- 5:36I And respectfully, that is not how a human being works.
- 5:43Real commitment is not perfection.
- 5:47Real commitment is return, and that's why I've been saying it's a return to self actually is the most magnificent thing that we can do.
- 5:56And when I look back at my life when I was so focused on committing to the goal, to achieving the thing, I can simultaneously remember how much life I was missing because I just had to get through this and achieve this, and then I would be happy when I woke up September 1st and I heard commitment, what soon followed was curiosity.
- 6:25And that pulled in a whole new type of energy.
- 6:29It's almost like a space opened up If I allow myself to commit to, then can I allow myself to hold a curiosity about?
- 6:43One of the commitments that I am making for September is the commitment for sobriety.
- 6:49I am a girl who loves a good Chardonnay or a Pinot Noir anytime and any time of the day.
- 7:00And I'm not seeking sobriety because I feel like I should not be enjoying the glass of wine, but more because I'm holding a curiosity of what happens if I stay with the discomfort or I stay with the tenderness or I stay with the rawness of being alive rather than immediately wanting to try to amplify it, escape it, or just numb down for a minute And I think that's what commitment can be.
- 7:42It's not forcing or gripping or really staying laser-focused on this thing that we need to do and create, and definitely not punishing yourself into transformation.
- 7:52I'm gonna say that one more time.
- 7:54Not punishing yourself into transformation.
- 7:59The invitation to stay committed then led to the curiosity, and then that led to the question, wonder what would happen if I allow.
- 8:13Not I wonder what would happen if I try harder, or I wonder what would happen if I had a better plan, but what would happen if I allow?
- 8:20What would happen if just for September I allow myself to be supported?
- 8:27What would happen if I allow joy to be my priority?
- 8:34What would happen if I allowed a desire to be valid before I understood exactly how it could happen?
- 8:44What would happen if I allowed myself to change my mind?
- 8:49What would happen if I allowed myself to Put something down in the middle of the afternoon and just rest But what would happen if I allow myself to maybe not talk so much and not always have an answer?
- 9:09What happens if I allow myself to receive just a little bit more life?
- 9:14What, what happen if I allow myself to be just a little bit more creative during the day?
- 9:20I wonder what would happen if I got quiet I wonder what would happen if I didn't do so much I wonder what would happen if I said yes a little more And then I wanna highlight the word allow.
- 9:40Allowing is participation without force.
- 9:48It's taking aligned action without believing you have to control every outcome Allowance does not mean doing nothing.
- 10:00It means acting in harmony with the current of life rather than exhausting yourself trying to swim upstream against every single thing, every single thought, every single should Sometimes we mistake struggle for proof that we care.
- 10:20And what if ease is not laziness?
- 10:25Can ease and allowance and listening and rest become how we access information?
- 10:36can it become the portal for how we make contact with the truest self of who we are?
- 10:43So to put these pieces together for a September commitment, what can I commit to for the next 30 days?
- 10:54And the commitment isn't around a goal or achieving something.
- 10:59It's just simply, I allow myself to commit to following joy more.
- 11:04I allow myself to commit to resting.
- 11:07I allow myself to commit to focusing on myself.
- 11:11I commit to not always extending myself to others.
- 11:18I commit to saying yes, and then allowing the commitment to lead into curiosity.
- 11:25If I commit to this, I'm curious about Curiosity leads to the statement, I wonder what would happen if I allow...
- 11:36I wonder what would happen if I allow myself to be a little bit more happy, or I wonder what would happen if I allow myself to rest.
- 11:43I wonder what would happen if I allow myself to take a day off.
- 11:46I wonder what would happen if And that feels like the energy for September commitment curiosity and allowance.
- 12:03Thank you for being here.
- 12:04And remember, if this episode landed for you, send it to someone who may be gripping a little too tightly right now, someone who needs a little support, permission to soften, someone who might just need a return to let life meet them where they are.

- 12:26And remember, you do not need to have it all figured out to be deeply committed to your light.
- 12:33And remember, celebrate.
- 12:36What can you celebrate?
- 12:38Commitment, curiosity, allowance, celebration.
- 12:43We'll add that in at the end Till next time
