- 2:38Speaker 5: twenty six years, man.
- 2:39Speaker 8: So don't even feel like it's crazy.
- 2:41Speaker 5: But yeah, yeah, so this is going to be a
- 2:43Speaker 5: very interesting, multi layered conversation.
- 2:45Speaker 3: For first and all, thank you for joiningus. Appreciate it,
- 2:48Speaker 3: And thank.
- 2:48Speaker 8: You guys for having me man, Yeah, long overdue, man,

- 3:00Speaker 8: see each other.
- 3:00Speaker 7: And I appreciate you brothers when I appreciate you all
- 3:03Speaker 7: supporting you know, supporting us in that way in Atlanta.
- 3:05Speaker 7: And also just what you guys are doing in general,
- 3:08Speaker 7: you know what I mean, Like great, great, great, great
- 3:10Speaker 7: thing that you guys are doing.
- 3:11Speaker 3: Appreciate it.
- 3:11Speaker 5: So all right, so listen, I want to talk about
- 3:14Speaker 5: what you're doing now, But first I want to just
- 3:15Speaker 5: kind of I want to talk about songwriting, okay, right,
- 3:18Speaker 5: because I feel like we haven't really had this conversation.
- 3:21Speaker 5: Yet We've spoken to a lot of musicians, a lot
- 3:23Speaker 5: of rappings singers and stuff like that, but I don't
- 3:25Speaker 5: think we've spoken to too many composers. So walk us
- 3:29Speaker 5: through the process of actually writing for somebody else, Like
- 3:32Speaker 5: do you have to put yourself in that person's shoes
- 3:36Speaker 5: and think like how that person would think? Like how
- 3:39Speaker 5: difficult is it to actually write for somebody that's not yourself.
- 3:43Speaker 7: What's interesting is that when you first start writing, right,
- 3:45Speaker 7: you don't have any point of reference. Right when you're
- 3:49Speaker 7: in the beginning, you're just kind of like, Okay, I
- 3:51Speaker 7: want to make a song for you know, Whitney Houston.
- 3:56Speaker 7: You know, I don't know Whitney Houston. So how do
- 3:58Speaker 7: I you know, you try to mimic whatever her previous
- 4:04Speaker 7: works are, which you would think, you imagine, you know
- 4:06Speaker 7: what I mean. You use your imagination like crazy in
- 4:09Speaker 7: the beginning, right, because you don't have access, you know,
- 4:15Speaker 7: and you and that. But that period is when you
- 4:17Speaker 7: are like really honing your craft, right producing, you know, writing,
- 4:22Speaker 7: you're really honing your craft. It's almost like that's the
- 4:25Speaker 7: that's part of the ten thousand hours, you know, the
- 4:28Speaker 7: imaginative part right, then you get to a place where
- 4:31Speaker 7: you become you know, you're able to get in those
- 4:33Speaker 7: rooms or you know the concept. So initially you just
- 4:39Speaker 7: kind of just you know, hopefully going to nail it. Hopefully,
- 4:43Speaker 7: you know, you get in the room and you have
- 4:45Speaker 7: something they like, and then you nail it. But then
- 4:48Speaker 7: what ended up happening for me is that I ended
- 4:50Speaker 7: up working with Jumaine right early on. JA made it
- 4:53Speaker 7: pretty early on, and I learned a valuable lesson and
- 4:59Speaker 7: one of these in the we did for for you
- 5:01Speaker 7: got it bad. I learned it's something that take with
- 5:04Speaker 7: me everywhere. Right, It's called the songs in the conversation.
- 5:07Speaker 7: So my process, now it has been my process for
- 5:10Speaker 7: the past maybe two decades, is if I'm like when
- 5:14Speaker 7: t wany to book me for a session, right, I
- 5:18Speaker 7: like to get multiple days because I want to take
- 5:20Speaker 7: one day to have a conversation to understand, you know
- 5:24Speaker 7: what I mean, what you want to talk about, to
- 5:26Speaker 7: understand you know what I mean, even what you're going
- 5:28Speaker 7: through make maybe you don't even know what you want
- 5:29Speaker 7: to talk about. You know, through the conversation, we figure
- 5:32Speaker 7: out okay, this could be you know, I figure out
- 5:36Speaker 7: your personality I figure out because you have to sing
- 5:37Speaker 7: these songs for the rest of your life, you know
- 5:39Speaker 7: what I mean. I don't have to sing them, you
- 5:40Speaker 7: know what I mean. I make them. You have to
- 5:42Speaker 7: sing them. So I want you to be emotionally attached
- 5:44Speaker 7: or feel somewhat emotionally attached to the song when you're
- 5:48Speaker 7: singing it, you know what I mean. So the process
- 5:51Speaker 7: now is just really having that conversation, you know, creating
- 5:55Speaker 7: a comfortable environment for artists to feel like they can
- 5:58Speaker 7: let that guard down, can say what they need to
- 6:01Speaker 7: say and talk about the things that they want to
- 6:03Speaker 7: talk about. And then through that we digest that and
- 6:07Speaker 7: you know, it comes out through the music. You know that.
- 6:10Speaker 7: That's how That's how I like to do it, you
- 6:14Speaker 7: know what I mean, for the most part.
- 6:16Speaker 4: So it's interesting you said you started with your man,
- 6:17Speaker 4: you know, so you're you're is it my way or
- 6:20Speaker 4: is it the.
- 6:20Speaker 3: Eighty seven seven? Almost?
- 6:22Speaker 4: Because it's like this happens very quick, So I'm wondering
- 6:25Speaker 4: when do you realize, Like I'm really like, I'm nice
- 6:28Speaker 4: at this because everybody credits you for the outer stuff,
- 6:31Speaker 4: but like my favorite arguably is j Harpery, Like if
- 6:36Speaker 4: you look at the writing and producing credits.
- 6:39Speaker 3: I'm you're all over there.
- 6:40Speaker 4: Yeah, I did. I did the majority. That is that
- 6:41Speaker 4: when you it's like I mastered this.
- 6:43Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 6:44Speaker 7: With Jagged, it was when I figured it out, you know,
- 6:48Speaker 7: you well, it's the point where I feel I feel
- 6:51Speaker 7: like it was figured out. You know, there was there
- 6:54Speaker 7: was things that happened before that, you know, I did.
- 6:55Speaker 7: I did a group called Profile.
- 6:58Speaker 3: I did a.
- 6:59Speaker 7: Few things before that. I mean, I did every miss
- 7:02Speaker 7: for Sam Salter, and there's just a few things that
- 7:04Speaker 7: kind of like, you know, put up of dollars in
- 7:06Speaker 7: your pocket, get a little credit, you know what I'm saying.
- 7:09Speaker 7: But when I got with Jagged, it was more I
- 7:14Speaker 7: didn't know what I was doing, but I was with
- 7:16Speaker 7: them every day. And then when you it's like the
- 7:20Speaker 7: more we were doing, I felt like, Okay, now I'm
- 7:24Speaker 7: starting to know know what I'm doing. But then when
- 7:28Speaker 7: we got to those four songs, we got to he
- 7:30Speaker 7: Can't Love You, Healing Heartbreak, and what You're trying to do,
- 7:35Speaker 7: then it was like, Okay, this this is the pocket
- 7:38Speaker 7: I needed to stand right. And then we had we
- 7:42Speaker 7: had an early version of Promise Right, an early version
- 7:45Speaker 7: that they did with another guy named Burt and Gizzo.
- 7:50Speaker 7: It was another set of produce that they did. But
- 7:52Speaker 7: then they brought the idea to me and then we
- 7:54Speaker 7: made another version and then we went and made the
- 7:57Speaker 7: final version with your man. So you're right, Jay Harper's
- 8:02Speaker 7: winning was like Okay, I'm doing this for real now
- 8:06Speaker 7: like okay, now I'm now I'm in the game.
- 8:08Speaker 3: You know what I'm saying. And it it.
- 8:13Speaker 7: Definitely from that point on was when you know, everything
- 8:16Speaker 7: started to just kind.
- 8:17Speaker 4: Of so you're getting credit as the writer for the
- 8:21Speaker 4: song and the producer for the song. This is I
- 8:23Speaker 4: remember this stinging when this sound came This is ninety eight.
- 8:27Speaker 3: Yeah, you're right, I know listening to that. I used
- 8:31Speaker 3: to open up the credits. Yeah yeah, it was that
- 8:33Speaker 3: in Donill Jones. That's all I was. Oh yeah, I
- 8:36Speaker 3: was bumping at the time. Yeah.
- 8:37Speaker 4: And so, from from a financial standpoint, more incentive right
- 8:40Speaker 4: to have both.
- 8:42Speaker 3: Yeah, that's attached to you.
- 8:43Speaker 7: Yeah, and it's you know that that particular subject is
- 8:49Speaker 7: always uh an interesting stuffing to talk about because people
- 8:54Speaker 7: hear the word written by and they automatically assume that
- 8:57Speaker 7: it's lyrics. You know what I mean That people do
- 8:59Speaker 7: not take the music into consideration. Back in the seventies
- 9:03Speaker 7: and eighties, the credits read music by lyrics by you
- 9:07Speaker 7: know what I'm saying. And then somewhere, you know, in
- 9:10Speaker 7: the late eighties early nineties, that particular credit got thrown
- 9:15Speaker 7: out the window. I guess, you know, they're trying to
- 9:17Speaker 7: consolidate and make more room for you know, credits song
- 9:20Speaker 7: on paper, and it was just like just written by
- 9:23Speaker 7: you know what I'm saying, written by so it's it's published.
- 9:28Speaker 8: Works this way.
- 9:29Speaker 7: Music lyrics in Nashville, they split everything one hundred percent.
- 9:36Speaker 7: You know, no matter what you did, you could have
- 9:38Speaker 7: wrote one line. You know, if we're in a room
- 9:40Speaker 7: together and we make a song and that song ends
- 9:45Speaker 7: up being something.
- 9:46Speaker 8: It's thirty three and the third no matter what, right.
- 9:49Speaker 3: Every every person that writes gets the same yea.
- 9:51Speaker 8: Or same amount, no matter what right.
- 9:53Speaker 7: And urban culture and in pop culture, really in pop
- 9:56Speaker 7: music culture and generally, it doesn't really work that way.
- 9:59Speaker 7: You know, they have people break it down some rhythm,
- 10:02Speaker 7: some random random rhythmetic.
- 10:03Speaker 8: They'll break it down.
- 10:04Speaker 7: The way that I used to break it down before
- 10:07Speaker 7: was music was fifty percent lyrics fifty percent right. And
- 10:10Speaker 7: if you split them like if if like if me
- 10:14Speaker 7: and you made the music and you justly lyrics.
- 10:16Speaker 8: By yourself, right, then we'll split the fifty and.
- 10:19Speaker 3: You get music to beat the producer.
- 10:22Speaker 5: Yeah, the producer gets fifty and the music the person
- 10:26Speaker 5: that writes.
- 10:26Speaker 8: The lyrics is fifty percent.
- 10:27Speaker 5: Yes, but all right, so there's no set standard. No,
- 10:32Speaker 5: that's the whatever you want to do. Whatever I mean,
- 10:35Speaker 5: it's it's.
- 10:36Speaker 3: An unwritten rule. Yeah, that in hip hop culture is
- 10:39Speaker 3: fifty fifty fifty.
- 10:40Speaker 5: What you're saying in music in Nashville and country music,
- 10:45Speaker 5: what is the producer getting country music?
- 10:48Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, it's the producer is technically the composer. What
- 10:53Speaker 3: I'm saying, The producer is the writer. Yeah.
- 10:55Speaker 7: Composing music is writing music, you know what I'm saying.
- 10:57Speaker 7: So the composo in country music.
- 10:59Speaker 3: Right.
- 11:00Speaker 7: So if I'm in a room, right and we're we're
- 11:03Speaker 7: making R and B a hip hop music, right, as
- 11:06Speaker 7: an NPC in front of me or or you know,
- 11:08Speaker 7: or laptop or whatever, right, and I make the beat,
- 11:10Speaker 7: You're right, the lyrics that's you know, to write. Take
- 11:15Speaker 7: the computer out of the equation in Nashville, right and
- 11:19Speaker 7: put a piano in front of it, and you write
- 11:20Speaker 7: in music, so written music, and yeah, and put a
- 11:23Speaker 7: piano in front of me. I'm playing chords, I'm writing music.
- 11:27Speaker 7: It's it's literally the same exact thing. But just when
- 11:31Speaker 7: you're doing beats, where you're composing beats, you're putting drums
- 11:36Speaker 7: to it.
- 11:37Speaker 5: So those guys in the country music world, they're writing
- 11:41Speaker 5: the words to the song and they're actually composing the music.
- 11:44Speaker 3: They're doing too, they're doing both of those.
- 11:46Speaker 7: Yeah, you know what I'm saying. So but even but
- 11:50Speaker 7: it's it's really simple. If we are in a room
- 11:57Speaker 7: together in Nashville and there's instead of a as a piano,
- 12:01Speaker 7: it's really the same exact thing. Which is why now
- 12:03Speaker 7: I tend to split everything evenly even in my world
- 12:08Speaker 7: at this point now, because it's pretty much it's pretty
- 12:13Speaker 7: much the same thing. You know what I'm saying. It's
- 12:14Speaker 7: just now producing is me actually creating the beat, getting
- 12:20Speaker 7: the getting the whole song to the finish line.
- 12:23Speaker 8: That's producing.
- 12:24Speaker 7: So for example, I did me and Jermaine did the
- 12:29Speaker 7: record for to Me a car Steele right that we
- 12:32Speaker 7: produced for her on one of her albums. She was
- 12:34Speaker 7: on Elektra right, So we wrote me Jermaine and John
- 12:38Speaker 7: Tay wrote this song. Wed Me and Jamaine made the beat.
- 12:41Speaker 7: So we're the producers on the on the song. Right
- 12:44Speaker 7: that same song, she redoes it as a country song.
- 12:49Speaker 7: You know what I'm saying. We didn't produce that version.
- 12:52Speaker 7: You know what I mean, it's not our beat. We
- 12:54Speaker 7: didn't see it to the finish line. One day, I
- 12:56Speaker 7: just got a freaking check.
- 12:59Speaker 8: You know. It was like, oh, it's still the country versise.
- 13:01Speaker 8: I was like, oh shit, okay, you know what I mean.
- 13:02Speaker 7: You know, whoever, whatever country producers she went to go
- 13:05Speaker 7: work with, they just remade our song, you know what
- 13:07Speaker 7: I mean. So they didn't get any publishing, but I
- 13:10Speaker 7: don't know how much they charged on the producer feed.
- 13:12Speaker 8: We didn't get none of that.
- 13:13Speaker 3: You know, ya wrote the lyrics today, the lyrics and
- 13:15Speaker 3: the music and the music. Yeah, you know what I'm saying.
- 13:16Speaker 8: They just they just remade the song, you know what
- 13:18Speaker 8: I'm saying.
- 13:19Speaker 7: So I think that it gets a little skewed, especially
- 13:23Speaker 7: now with the whole concept of like, you know, people
- 13:26Speaker 7: you know, looking at lyricists, you know, especially in hip
- 13:30Speaker 7: Hop's like when you sell these credits and it's like
- 13:33Speaker 7: who wrote what you.
- 13:34Speaker 3: Know what I mean.
- 13:34Speaker 7: You got ghostwriters over there, man. Real life is usually
- 13:38Speaker 7: if you see a bunch of names. Usually it's especially
- 13:42Speaker 7: in hip hop, is a sample, you know what I'm saying,
- 13:45Speaker 7: And it's producers that composed the music, so they're part
- 13:49Speaker 7: of the writing credit to you know what I mean.
- 13:51Speaker 5: So for artists that don't produce, all right, they get
- 13:54Speaker 5: no publishing. They're not supposed to, but they can't.
- 13:57Speaker 7: They ye can, though you can negotiate it if you
- 14:00Speaker 7: are artists, Yeah, if you you know, if you if
- 14:02Speaker 7: you are, you know, apply them. So an artists, you
- 14:05Speaker 7: feel like, yo, it's my duty to get you know,
- 14:07Speaker 7: you know, don't mean five, don't mean you know what
- 14:09Speaker 7: I'm saying. Whatever, you know, because no matter what you get,
- 14:14Speaker 7: even if you get two percent of a record, it's
- 14:16Speaker 7: still you know, life, lifeline, lifetime, residual, you know what
- 14:21Speaker 7: I'm saying.
- 14:22Speaker 4: Now, Jermaine, obviously you grew up in music, you have
- 14:26Speaker 4: obviously experience it.
- 14:27Speaker 3: At that point.
- 14:28Speaker 4: Are you all familiar with the business of it right
- 14:30Speaker 4: as you're going through this process publishing and royalties, you
- 14:33Speaker 4: have a firm understanding of it or is that something
- 14:35Speaker 4: that you're learning.
- 14:35Speaker 3: So I learned along the way.
- 14:37Speaker 7: To be honest with you, I didn't even realize that
- 14:38Speaker 7: we were talking about you used were entrepreneurship earlier. I
- 14:41Speaker 7: didn't even realize that I was going into business like
- 14:47Speaker 7: creating a business for myself. I didn't really I didn't
- 14:49Speaker 7: even look at it like, oh, this is my company,
- 14:51Speaker 7: this is my you know what I mean? You know,
- 14:53Speaker 7: you just want to get into music business. You know,
- 14:55Speaker 7: you don't even have any idea that your production company
- 14:59Speaker 7: is actually a company. You're publishing companies, actually holding company
- 15:03Speaker 7: for your royalties and for you you know what I mean,
- 15:05Speaker 7: Like you have no idea.
- 15:06Speaker 8: You just kind of like, you know, do I set
- 15:09Speaker 8: up an ask cap account?
- 15:10Speaker 3: Do I? You know, you know, you know, you don't
- 15:12Speaker 3: even know what you're doing in the beginning, you know
- 15:13Speaker 3: what I'm saying.
- 15:15Speaker 7: And I think that throughout the years it you know, you,
- 15:18Speaker 7: I learned that Oh no, no, Brian, Brian, you are a business.
- 15:22Speaker 7: You are you are actually an entrepreneur. This is it's
- 15:26Speaker 7: more than you being a songwriter. This more thing you
- 15:28Speaker 7: being a producer and opposer like, these are businesses you're building.
- 15:31Speaker 7: So from that angle, how are you gonna shift and
- 15:37Speaker 7: and make this make makes no sense?
- 15:39Speaker 3: Which was the record? It was like, all right, this
- 15:40Speaker 3: is a bit you got a bad. No it was,
- 15:43Speaker 3: I mean literally it was everything. Yeah it was.
- 15:46Speaker 7: No, it was you got a bad You're right where
- 15:48Speaker 7: it was because you got to back with such a
- 15:50Speaker 7: big record, you.
- 15:51Speaker 3: Know what I mean.
- 15:52Speaker 7: And I made a deal we may I made my
- 15:55Speaker 7: first publishing deal with Wanna Chapel. And I didn't have
- 16:02Speaker 7: any understanding of it, you know what I mean, any
- 16:04Speaker 7: understanding of what I was. You know, I trusted my attorney,
- 16:07Speaker 7: I trusted my managers. You know, I didn't have any
- 16:12Speaker 7: understanding of it. I just knew I was going to
- 16:14Speaker 7: get a checked and I knew how many songs had
- 16:16Speaker 7: to turn in, and I knew that, you know what
- 16:18Speaker 7: I mean. You know, I didn't understand retention period. I understand,
- 16:22Speaker 7: you know, I understand the actual percentage of how much
- 16:27Speaker 7: you get recouped against. Like I don't understand none of that,
- 16:29Speaker 7: you know what I'm saying. Like, I just knew, Okay,
- 16:31Speaker 7: they're gonna get me fined a thousands.
- 16:33Speaker 4: Let me get that is our work, So you get it.
- 16:36Speaker 4: There's a lump sum that like we need twenty tracks
- 16:38Speaker 4: on you. Well, yeah, so back then it was that.
- 16:40Speaker 7: Way back then, it was like, okay, yo, if you're
- 16:42Speaker 7: gonna do a deal, we're gonna give you a five
- 16:43Speaker 7: year deal, which is like a we're gonna give you
- 16:48Speaker 7: you know, it'll be a three year deal with two
- 16:49Speaker 7: options or whatever. Right, and it said, okay, hey, you
- 16:52Speaker 7: know for your first first year, depending on you know
- 16:55Speaker 7: this this maximini. So I say, your your minis two
- 16:58Speaker 7: fifty year maxis three and five hundred thousand. And I said,
- 17:01Speaker 7: depending on who you are, where you are in your career,
- 17:04Speaker 7: and depending on what's in the pipeline, they'll give you
- 17:06Speaker 7: the max. That's cool, five hundred thousand boom. And each year,
- 17:11Speaker 7: depending on where you are, the number can fluctuate. Right,
- 17:15Speaker 7: So if you recoup the first year, okay, cool, we're
- 17:18Speaker 7: really to your next option. Next option could be more money.
- 17:21Speaker 7: But in hindsight, it feels like it was designed to
- 17:25Speaker 7: keep you in debt.
- 17:27Speaker 8: You know what I'm saying. Now, you know, in hindsight, those.
- 17:29Speaker 7: Deals feel egregious because you don't even understand how you're
- 17:33Speaker 7: getting You don't have any understanding of how.
- 17:37Speaker 8: You're getting recouped, like how you're want to recoup it.
- 17:39Speaker 3: Certainly not to recruit.
- 17:40Speaker 7: Yeah, you think, oh, every dollar that comes in, I
- 17:44Speaker 7: got this advance. Every dollar that comes in is going
- 17:46Speaker 7: to go to my recruitment. It doesn't work that way
- 17:49Speaker 7: because they got to get paid too. So what happens is,
- 17:52Speaker 7: you know, you have to negotiate that dollar amount too.
- 17:56Speaker 7: So if you like fifty to fifty really so really
- 17:58Speaker 7: you're for every dollar you getting fifty cents going towards
- 18:02Speaker 7: your recruitment. Does it's made your recruitment go mad slow
- 18:06Speaker 7: and you'd be like you look up a year later, Okay,
- 18:08Speaker 7: a year later.
- 18:10Speaker 8: Go to my next option, like, no, you still owe us? Wow.
- 18:14Speaker 5: So illustrate new ideas, Yeah, talk about you know the
- 18:19Speaker 5: concept behind that and how that ties in with you know,
- 18:22Speaker 5: records and publisher.
- 18:23Speaker 7: Well, illustrating new idea is the idea Kim and me
- 18:25Speaker 7: a few years ago, I just I wanted to really
- 18:28Speaker 7: read structure how my business was done. I really wanted
- 18:33Speaker 7: to understand the business better, you know what I mean.
- 18:36Speaker 7: And it started out as just an idea for me
- 18:39Speaker 7: to do like you know, random content and things of
- 18:43Speaker 7: that nature. But then you know your your will, my
- 18:46Speaker 7: willhouse is music, you know, so then you say Okay,
- 18:50Speaker 7: that's what I'm good at, That's what I'm you know
- 18:52Speaker 7: what I do best. Let me lean into that. And
- 18:58Speaker 7: it's artist Jack Freeman. You know, I've been known him
- 19:00Speaker 7: for a minute and we've been trying to figure out
- 19:02Speaker 7: way to work together. You know what I'm saying, like
- 19:04Speaker 7: how we're going to work together. You know, I was going,
- 19:06Speaker 7: you know, I will give a few tracks for independent
- 19:08Speaker 7: releases he was doing, and and last year I was like, yo, bro,
- 19:12Speaker 7: let's like, let's just let's just do a project like
- 19:14Speaker 7: I built this I'm trying to build this company. Let's
- 19:16Speaker 7: do a project and you know, let's let's see where
- 19:20Speaker 7: we go with it. And then in the process of
- 19:22Speaker 7: me doing this, it is definitely opened my mind, over
- 19:26Speaker 7: my eyes to exactly what I want to do. So
- 19:30Speaker 7: I want to I want to be a safe haven
- 19:32Speaker 7: for artists and for creatives. I want them to know
- 19:35Speaker 7: that they're gonna you know, we're going to do super
- 19:38Speaker 7: fair deals. You know, we're not going to do deals
- 19:41Speaker 7: that are that lock people in you know wild you know,
- 19:45Speaker 7: I'm just not trying to be that person. I've been
- 19:47Speaker 7: locked in a deal before for you know, have a
- 19:50Speaker 7: long not be able to get out, and I want
- 19:54Speaker 7: to be able to have a place where artists feel
- 19:59Speaker 7: they feel nimble.
- 20:01Speaker 3: So it's a record label.
- 20:03Speaker 7: Yeah, it's a label, and it's I'm doing a I
- 20:06Speaker 7: have a publishing leg that's coming out. I'm in the
- 20:08Speaker 7: middle of negotiating deal right now for the publishing arm,
- 20:12Speaker 7: you know what I'm saying.
- 20:14Speaker 4: So now I was thinking from a creative standpoint. You've
- 20:17Speaker 4: been in this game, like you said, twenty five years.
- 20:19Speaker 4: There's been obviously a change in music. This has been
- 20:21Speaker 4: a change in social media. So about the impact that
- 20:25Speaker 4: it's had on some of the free successful the things
- 20:28Speaker 4: that you've been doing.
- 20:29Speaker 3: I mean, TikTok has has taken money and.
- 20:33Speaker 7: A long record to the top, like I'm gonna keep
- 20:35Speaker 7: it voil Man. That's something that was that we could
- 20:39Speaker 7: not have predicted, you know what I'm saying, Like social
- 20:42Speaker 7: media is always the social has always been.
- 20:45Speaker 8: It's the X factor, you know, it's the you know,
- 20:50Speaker 8: you could do the regular thing.
- 20:51Speaker 3: You know.
- 20:51Speaker 7: They went about promoting her album Death Jam and Shocking
- 20:56Speaker 7: and Wine. I promote her album a very old school single,
- 21:00Speaker 7: very old school way. Initially it's like we're gonna put
- 21:02Speaker 7: this song out, We're gonna go to radio, and they
- 21:04Speaker 7: did all those things and it built a proper foundation,
- 21:06Speaker 7: and the record was actually doing extremely well on radio already,
- 21:10Speaker 7: you know, like adult R and B radio stations out
- 21:12Speaker 7: there was we had number one with that. It was
- 21:14Speaker 7: like she was doing well. It was it smelled like
- 21:17Speaker 7: a hit already, you know what I'm saying. But top
- 21:21Speaker 7: of the year, TikTok happened. You know whoever you know,
- 21:23Speaker 7: the girl with the blue pajamas or whatever that or
- 21:25Speaker 7: whatever that was. That shit just went nuts. And for me,
- 21:31Speaker 7: it's like, wow, you know it, thank you, you.
- 21:39Speaker 3: Know what I mean, I wasn't right. We weren't expecting
- 21:41Speaker 3: that at all.
- 21:42Speaker 4: When you hear it, it feels like an error of
- 21:45Speaker 4: R and B. Yeah, it just has that feel to it,
- 21:47Speaker 4: so like when you're on the radio. It's like I
- 21:48Speaker 4: remember listening to songs like this on the radio when
- 21:51Speaker 4: you're trying to craft that sound. Are you drawing back
- 21:55Speaker 4: to that time where it's like, you know, people.
- 21:57Speaker 3: Like R and B is dead? But like obviously yes.
- 22:00Speaker 7: She wanted that saying she specifically you know, it was
- 22:05Speaker 7: like do the thing that y'all did you know? That
- 22:08Speaker 7: was basically you know what I mean what she I mean,
- 22:12Speaker 7: it was very very specific. She was very intentional about
- 22:14Speaker 7: what she how she wanted that song to sound.
- 22:17Speaker 3: So what how much money can you actually might make
- 22:22Speaker 3: writing a song.
- 22:26Speaker 7: A high one hundred, like a number one, high one
- 22:28Speaker 7: hundred song you can make you know, I mean as
- 22:30Speaker 7: far as it can generate I'm sorry, the song could generate,
- 22:34Speaker 7: you know, from on the publisher side, a minimum of
- 22:37Speaker 7: a million dollars if it's a number one, you know
- 22:38Speaker 7: what I mean. You know, it could generate a lot
- 22:41Speaker 7: of money. And depending on all the splits and who
- 22:44Speaker 7: you know, So if you're in a publishing deal, if
- 22:46Speaker 7: you're not a publishing deal, if you know what I mean,
- 22:48Speaker 7: if you're on fifteen percent of the song, if you
- 22:50Speaker 7: on twenty five percent of song, if you on fifty,
- 22:52Speaker 7: know what I mean. It depends on the split. But
- 22:53Speaker 7: the song itself could generate a lot of money. You
- 22:56Speaker 7: you can make a lot of money if you are
- 22:59Speaker 7: a hit on writer. Let's if you're a top hundred, yeah, like.
- 23:03Speaker 5: The dream, Like, all right, so who's your top songwriter?
- 23:06Speaker 5: The dream is a dream the top songwriter? Absolutely yeah, absolutely.
- 23:12Speaker 3: So he's making millions of dollars.
- 23:13Speaker 8: He's making tens of millions of dollars.
- 23:15Speaker 3: I looked at that just every year, just off of
- 23:17Speaker 3: that Cowboy Carter.
- 23:18Speaker 8: Yeah, he's making he's making a lot.
- 23:19Speaker 5: But he also said he said something about like working
- 23:22Speaker 5: with Beyonce with you know, it's not.
- 23:25Speaker 3: A regular deal, working with no your splits is going
- 23:28Speaker 3: to be a lot less. Yeah.
- 23:30Speaker 7: But but the but the but the density of those songs,
- 23:34Speaker 7: the entity is a lot of them. Like he makes
- 23:37Speaker 7: a lot of the songs, and those songs performed so well.
- 23:41Speaker 7: I mean even when you don't think those songs are
- 23:43Speaker 7: performing well, you know what I mean. We were talking
- 23:44Speaker 7: about this the other day. I was saying somebody asked me, like,
- 23:46Speaker 7: what do you think about Cowboy Carter? And I was like,
- 23:48Speaker 7: I like it right, And it was like we don't
- 23:50Speaker 7: really hear a lot of it, you know. And I
- 23:51Speaker 7: was like, go look at the metrics, like where her?
- 23:57Speaker 7: Where her the music? Like she is doing well?
- 24:02Speaker 5: Yeah, Okay, that's interesting because I haven't heard this song.
- 24:05Speaker 3: I haven't heard too many songs either. Where's where's it
- 24:07Speaker 3: doing well at?
- 24:08Speaker 7: She's doing well on all DSPs, She's doing well. Now,
- 24:12Speaker 7: she's doing well on country music. Rats you know, her
- 24:18Speaker 7: fans are so relentless, you know what I mean, Like
- 24:21Speaker 7: they just she could really do no wrong with her fans,
- 24:24Speaker 7: you know what i mean. So when you have a
- 24:25Speaker 7: fan base like that, you super served them, you know
- 24:27Speaker 7: what i mean. She's super served to be high, you
- 24:29Speaker 7: know what i mean, Like no Worther, like you saw
- 24:32Speaker 7: a renaissance, Like everybody had on silver and it's coming
- 24:36Speaker 7: to the can you know what I'm saying, silver, I'm
- 24:37Speaker 7: black at the concert?
- 24:38Speaker 8: So what you did to go be wearing at the concert?
- 24:40Speaker 8: Cowboy Carter?
- 24:41Speaker 7: Everybody going to have on cowboy boots and chaps and
- 24:45Speaker 7: you know Cowboy has Like she's she's super served her
- 24:48Speaker 7: audience in a way that I've really seen an artists
- 24:52Speaker 7: do in a long time.
- 24:54Speaker 3: I mean.
- 24:54Speaker 7: So even though to the to the to the to
- 24:59Speaker 7: us the consumers who are like the general consumers, it
- 25:04Speaker 7: doesn't feel like massive, you know what I mean, But
- 25:08Speaker 7: for her fans, it's it's massive.
- 25:11Speaker 8: Yeah, you know what I mean, Let's take our money.
- 25:14Speaker 3: You know.
- 25:15Speaker 7: And so when you so as you the dream right
- 25:18Speaker 7: and you are locked into that situation, that's like that's
- 25:22Speaker 7: like guaranteed money.
- 25:25Speaker 4: It's like every time, every time so when you have
- 25:31Speaker 4: a number one, you gotta feel a bunch of them.
- 25:34Speaker 4: Let's take burn, Let's take Uh you Got a Bad
- 25:39Speaker 4: as You Confessions Part two, which they said it is
- 25:44Speaker 4: the greatest R and B record of the congratulationship A brother. Yes,
- 25:48Speaker 4: when you have a record like that, the longevity longevity
- 25:51Speaker 4: of it obviously plays out. But when you make a classic,
- 25:56Speaker 4: is there competition within yourself to say how do I
- 25:59Speaker 4: recreate it?
- 25:59Speaker 3: Or how do what? Topic?
- 26:00Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean always before I think now it isn't now.
- 26:04Speaker 7: It doesn't matter now because I mean, I'm forty six
- 26:07Speaker 7: years old. I've been doing this for twenty six years,
- 26:09Speaker 7: twenty seven years now, So it's like, you know, it's like,
- 26:14Speaker 7: you know, I think that you can you can get
- 26:16Speaker 7: lost in the sauce trying to chase something that was right.
- 26:21Speaker 8: All you could do is just.
- 26:25Speaker 7: Continue to try to outdo your The competition is not
- 26:28Speaker 7: about the past. The competition is about the competitive spirit
- 26:31Speaker 7: is about can I do? Can I make another one?
- 26:37Speaker 7: Because it just it don't even have to be another
- 26:38Speaker 7: the same thing. Can I just make something interesting that
- 26:41Speaker 7: people want to hear, you know what I mean? And
- 26:43Speaker 7: we do it so much now, you know, we make
- 26:46Speaker 7: We make music every day, so we make it music
- 26:48Speaker 7: every day all your life, you know what I mean.
- 26:50Speaker 7: I've been in the game twenty six, twenty seven years.
- 26:52Speaker 7: I've been making music as I was you know, yeah,
- 26:54Speaker 7: I've been I've been playing music as I.
- 26:56Speaker 3: Was a kid.
- 26:57Speaker 7: So every day in your life it's like it's now,
- 26:59Speaker 7: it's just you know, you just the competition is to continue,
- 27:06Speaker 7: is to create creative.
- 27:07Speaker 3: You know what I mean.
- 27:08Speaker 7: You know, it's the hope that the creativity never runs out.
- 27:12Speaker 7: So you listen to things, you try to you know,
- 27:13Speaker 7: now it's just trying to stay inspired.
- 27:17Speaker 3: You know.
- 27:17Speaker 4: The writing team, Like I said that y'all make hits.
- 27:20Speaker 4: So I know you and Jamaine still right, do you
- 27:22Speaker 4: John say and do y'all ever get together and say, yeah,
- 27:24Speaker 4: let's let's create something.
- 27:26Speaker 3: Yeah, so we we we.
- 27:29Speaker 7: You know, johns is is Uh has been leaning more
- 27:33Speaker 7: to the you know, business house. He went to he
- 27:35Speaker 7: went back to college and got his degree in business,
- 27:38Speaker 7: you know, business degree and all that, you know what
- 27:40Speaker 7: I mean. So he's really working closely with us. You're
- 27:43Speaker 7: now in that capacity. But we're still right, we still
- 27:47Speaker 7: you know, we still have those moments will be coming
- 27:49Speaker 7: together and do that. You know, me and me and
- 27:50Speaker 7: Jermaine are pretty much the studio rats. We the wants
- 27:53Speaker 7: in the studio all day, all night, you know what
- 27:54Speaker 7: I'm saying. But but so, because everybody kind of works
- 28:00Speaker 7: with each other in different capacities, were always going to
- 28:03Speaker 7: always be in a room together at some point.
- 28:05Speaker 5: So as far as this nightlife conversation, yes, so I
- 28:11Speaker 5: thought the party was called R and B only, but
- 28:13Speaker 5: his ladies love art.
- 28:14Speaker 3: He's a R and B.
- 28:14Speaker 7: So R and B on is another part of somebody else's.
- 28:17Speaker 7: So we started out. It's funny because Keith sent me
- 28:20Speaker 7: the first flyer that we ever did. He said that
- 28:23Speaker 7: to me, I'm gonna show you guy, it's crazy and
- 28:25Speaker 7: John seventeen. But we started as R and B Wednesdays,
- 28:30Speaker 7: all right, that's where it started. Start at R and
- 28:32Speaker 7: B Wednesdays, and we were with Rugs SL Lounge and
- 28:37Speaker 7: I'm gonna keep it real about that too, right. I
- 28:39Speaker 7: had no idea that that was like that we were
- 28:43Speaker 7: going to build that business.
- 28:44Speaker 8: I didn't even look at that as a business. Initially.
- 28:46Speaker 7: It was kind of like how even how the pitch was,
- 28:48Speaker 7: It's crazy how we started doing that party, right, I
- 28:52Speaker 7: was like twenty sixteen, I went through like a wild breakup, right,
- 28:56Speaker 7: I was. There was this girl I thought I was
- 28:57Speaker 7: gonna marry and the shit just didn't work out, right.
- 29:00Speaker 8: She ended up getting married to somebody else really quickly, right,
- 29:03Speaker 8: very quick.
- 29:05Speaker 7: And got pregnant everything else, And so it was like, wow,
- 29:08Speaker 7: you know, we don't talk about how like mental health,
- 29:12Speaker 7: you know what I mean, effects Well now we do,
- 29:15Speaker 7: but at that time, we didn't really talk about how
- 29:17Speaker 7: mental health effects black men, you know what I mean?
- 29:19Speaker 3: And I was.
- 29:20Speaker 7: I remember sitting up that year was so crazy because
- 29:23Speaker 7: it was like my my my uh my ex girlfriend
- 29:28Speaker 7: got married fast, then my auntie Jackie had passed away,
- 29:32Speaker 7: and then my father passed away. My aunt Jackie had
- 29:34Speaker 7: passed and then my father passed away.
- 29:37Speaker 3: Right.
- 29:38Speaker 7: So I remember sitting in my room one day like, okay, yo,
- 29:41Speaker 7: I'm I'm depressed.
- 29:42Speaker 3: Yo.
- 29:42Speaker 7: I'm like, You're like, like this is you know this
- 29:45Speaker 7: because initially I knew I was I was having about
- 29:48Speaker 7: with depression, but I didn't want it to be because
- 29:50Speaker 7: of the girl, you know what I'm saying.
- 29:52Speaker 8: I was like, no, I'm not gonna let this situation.
- 29:55Speaker 8: You know, you're probably down right.
- 29:57Speaker 7: But then my aunt passed and my dad passed, and
- 29:59Speaker 7: I was just like, oh, man, I gotta go see somebody,
- 30:01Speaker 7: go talk somebody. In the midst of all of this,
- 30:04Speaker 7: me and Keith started, you know, really hanging out.
- 30:06Speaker 8: Like he was always be my homeboy. Well I was cool.
- 30:08Speaker 7: You know, he us his best friend and so we've
- 30:10Speaker 7: known each other for many, many years. But we just
- 30:13Speaker 7: started like he'd be like, man, I'm gonna pick you up, man,
- 30:15Speaker 7: because you know, you knew I was, you know down,
- 30:17Speaker 7: I'm coming to pick you up.
- 30:18Speaker 3: Man.
- 30:18Speaker 8: We're gonna go out.
- 30:18Speaker 7: And we was literally going to the club every night
- 30:22Speaker 7: in Atlanta, right. And this is, you know, twenty sixteen.
- 30:24Speaker 7: I was seventeen. This is like, literally it's only trap
- 30:29Speaker 7: going on in the club. Yeah, it's only trap going
- 30:31Speaker 7: on the club. It's not like it's not like a
- 30:34Speaker 7: whole lot of R and B going on in in
- 30:36Speaker 7: these weekly spots. And then we're R and B parties
- 30:38Speaker 7: popping up like the Groove and you know, uh, everyday people,
- 30:43Speaker 7: and you know those parties were happening, but I'm talking
- 30:45Speaker 7: about in Atlanta, every day it was trap music, right.
- 30:50Speaker 7: And then what started happening was we'd be at the party.
- 30:53Speaker 7: We'd be like, man, this party is so weed, you
- 30:55Speaker 7: know what I mean, like like it felt you don't mean.
- 30:57Speaker 3: It just feels dark. The enagy is dark.
- 30:59Speaker 7: Everybody fights breaking out because the music make you want
- 31:02Speaker 7: to fight, you know what I mean.
- 31:03Speaker 8: There's something started to happen.
- 31:04Speaker 7: Right, we started going these parties and like around like
- 31:09Speaker 7: eleven forty five, right, the DJ would go into an
- 31:14Speaker 7: R and B set, whether it was an old scorn
- 31:16Speaker 7: B set, you know, nineties, or he would go he
- 31:18Speaker 7: would play Army Flight thirty forty five minutes, and you
- 31:22Speaker 7: would you would actually see the energy of the crowd
- 31:25Speaker 7: lift right, like you see the girls start dancing, you see,
- 31:29Speaker 7: you know what I mean?
- 31:30Speaker 8: And you actually saw it.
- 31:32Speaker 7: So we would I would be like, yo, man, we
- 31:34Speaker 7: need to do a part of like partly like this
- 31:36Speaker 7: that's all night, that plays this kind of music all night,
- 31:39Speaker 7: you know what I mean. And his lady was working
- 31:43Speaker 7: at this club, she was a bartender at this club
- 31:46Speaker 7: at Russ Club Assel, and we would always go kick it,
- 31:49Speaker 7: go go to go see Jeanine, and you know, and
- 31:52Speaker 7: she said Russ came. He was like, yo, you know
- 31:55Speaker 7: your boyfriend is heying all the time to my Keith,
- 31:57Speaker 7: your boyfriend's here all the time, Like why don't you
- 31:59Speaker 7: have him come do party?
- 32:00Speaker 3: You know what I mean?
- 32:01Speaker 7: And she was the one she at first like I
- 32:04Speaker 7: didn't I wasn't quite sure y'all would do a party
- 32:06Speaker 7: of essale. But she told him about it and he
- 32:09Speaker 7: was like, let me talk to Brian about it. Came
- 32:10Speaker 7: talk to me about it. He was like, yo, man, look,
- 32:13Speaker 7: I don't know if it's any money and anything like that.
- 32:15Speaker 7: At least we'll be able to hit him as we
- 32:17Speaker 7: want to hear, and we get the drink for free.
- 32:19Speaker 3: That was That was basically the pitch, you know what
- 32:22Speaker 3: I mean. I mean, you know what I'm saying.
- 32:24Speaker 7: Okay, And and I think the first week very like
- 32:29Speaker 7: like I think we walked away with sixty bucks and
- 32:31Speaker 7: peat some of that something crazy. But then what happened
- 32:34Speaker 7: was we had such a good time the first night
- 32:36Speaker 7: right and Ruggs told us. He was like, Yo, I'm
- 32:38Speaker 7: telling you man, this all this. It was only maybe
- 32:40Speaker 7: ten people in there first the first Wednesday. Twenty people maybe,
- 32:43Speaker 7: but Ruggs was like, Yo, this is going to jump
- 32:46Speaker 7: I'm telling you, like, don't quit, Like, let's just keep
- 32:48Speaker 7: doing it and like a month later, bro, like the
- 32:51Speaker 7: party was lit like.
- 32:53Speaker 3: And the state when didn't go to Red Martini.
- 32:55Speaker 7: Went to Red Martini in twenty twenty nineteen. No, I'm
- 33:00Speaker 7: sorry in twenty twenty twenty twenty because we were at Medusa.
- 33:04Speaker 3: The first one was in the Madusa, Medusa.
- 33:06Speaker 7: Before and then and Medusa they had some management issues
- 33:10Speaker 7: or whatever Medusa and then we had to move the party. No, yeah,
- 33:13Speaker 7: we didn't move to the party, move the party or uh
- 33:15Speaker 7: Red Martini.
- 33:16Speaker 3: It's been there ever since.
- 33:17Speaker 7: And it's I mean the location the like Red Martinez
- 33:24Speaker 7: just one of them spots. It's just like it's easy
- 33:26Speaker 7: to go to. Everybody knows where it's at, you know
- 33:28Speaker 7: what I mean. And we literally in twenty twenties when
- 33:34Speaker 7: I was like twenty twenty one is when I was like, Yo,
- 33:37Speaker 7: we're doing this, like this is a business now, bro,
- 33:40Speaker 7: let's really expand it. So then that that led us
- 33:43Speaker 7: into doing Vegas. We did Usher's after parties for Vegas.
- 33:47Speaker 7: So we made a deal, did us just after parts
- 33:48Speaker 7: for Vegas. Then we ended up going to Dubai. They
- 33:50Speaker 7: ended up doing something in Toronto, and so it started
- 33:53Speaker 7: turning to this thing we're like, we started doing pop ups.
- 33:55Speaker 7: Then we had Houston for like a year and a half,
- 33:57Speaker 7: so so it's turning to this thing where like, okay,
- 34:01Speaker 7: this is like.
- 34:01Speaker 5: A real bibles. It's one of these things. So we
- 34:05Speaker 5: got introduced to it from Alex Good Energy. Yes, and
- 34:08Speaker 5: he always got like the best table of yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 34:12Speaker 5: so he's the one that introduced us. That was back
- 34:14Speaker 5: in the Meduca days. And then shout out to mixed
- 34:17Speaker 5: master David David. Yeah, he actually did my birthday party.
- 34:21Speaker 5: That's so what happened is that, you know, once we
- 34:24Speaker 5: started getting this vibe of like this R and B vibe,
- 34:27Speaker 5: you never really realize what you're missing until you actually
- 34:31Speaker 5: see it, right, So we just we've been going to
- 34:33Speaker 5: parties all our lives and it's just you know, you
- 34:35Speaker 5: just adapt to what is being played, right, So we
- 34:39Speaker 5: adapt to to trap music. We adapt to in New York,
- 34:43Speaker 5: it's it's heavy Latin influence, reggaetne heavy.
- 34:46Speaker 3: You know, you just adapt to whatever it is.
- 34:47Speaker 5: But just that R and B vibe, I'm like, damn,
- 34:49Speaker 5: this is dope, Like I haven't I didn't even realize.
- 34:52Speaker 5: And then we interviewed Jimmy so you ever heard of
- 34:55Speaker 5: Jimmy Cafe in the Bronx. So the owner of Jimmy
- 34:59Speaker 5: Legendary rest and he's had a bunch of different clubs
- 35:02Speaker 5: and restaurants. And we was talking to him and he
- 35:05Speaker 5: was saying, like, you know, back in the days, there
- 35:07Speaker 5: used to be a dress.
- 35:08Speaker 3: Code before to get to the club, right, yes, our bottom.
- 35:11Speaker 5: You wanted to control the element you had, but the
- 35:13Speaker 5: dress code has gone away.
- 35:14Speaker 3: They's no't dress code anymore.
- 35:15Speaker 5: So I'm like, well, how do you control the element
- 35:18Speaker 5: without like profiling people?
- 35:20Speaker 3: Right? And he was like, you do it through music? Yeah,
- 35:23Speaker 3: oh bro?
- 35:23Speaker 5: And then I never really thought about it like that,
- 35:25Speaker 5: but he was like, yo, if you want to control
- 35:26Speaker 5: an element and create a vibe, play the music.
- 35:30Speaker 3: That's going to weed out the nonsense.
- 35:33Speaker 8: It's crazy. I was telling somebody this.
- 35:35Speaker 7: I was like at Red Martini and even in the
- 35:38Speaker 7: history about party lads of VR and B right, we've
- 35:41Speaker 7: had maybe you know, two or three things that were
- 35:45Speaker 7: kind of like questionable, like altercations. One thing happened outside
- 35:48Speaker 7: the club before the guy walked in, and then when
- 35:51Speaker 7: it happened, we actually dead at the party at SCEL
- 35:53Speaker 7: and moved it, you know, what I mean. You know,
- 35:59Speaker 7: people feel comfortable in that space. People feel because the
- 36:04Speaker 7: music is going to dictate the energy, you know what
- 36:07Speaker 7: I'm saying. And if you know we're playing, you know
- 36:11Speaker 7: you listen to you know Jodasy or Mary J Blige,
- 36:14Speaker 7: you know, listen.
- 36:16Speaker 3: You ain't gonna want to fight. Man, you try.
- 36:17Speaker 4: To go away when Telan campbells.
- 36:20Speaker 3: But it's also fun.
- 36:21Speaker 5: The type of person that even is that even wants
- 36:24Speaker 5: to come. Yeah, you gotta be in a certain mind
- 36:26Speaker 5: frame to even want to hear that kind of exactly exactly,
- 36:29Speaker 5: I don't want to get nine times out of ten.
- 36:32Speaker 5: If you're in that mind frame to even go to
- 36:35Speaker 5: hear that kind of music, You're not going to be
- 36:37Speaker 5: trying to ice grow somebody all night.
- 36:39Speaker 3: Like, that's not You're not in that mind frame.
- 36:41Speaker 8: And bro, I'm gonna keep it a buck man. Like.
- 36:45Speaker 7: We've always had a lot of women at our party,
- 36:48Speaker 7: but the influx of women the past like maybe three
- 36:51Speaker 7: months has.
- 36:52Speaker 4: Been absolutely ridiculous, no doubt ridiculous, like like like like
- 37:02Speaker 4: like this past Wednesday, I was like looking around, like, Yo,
- 37:05Speaker 4: this is really insane.
- 37:08Speaker 7: Like women I've never seen in Atlanta, women like like
- 37:12Speaker 7: I'm like, what's you know what I mean, you know,
- 37:16Speaker 7: on Wednesday to get people who got nine to five
- 37:19Speaker 7: to come out, you know what I mean I have.
- 37:22Speaker 3: I mean, it's an incredible party. It definitely is.
- 37:25Speaker 4: I'm saying, I'm I listened to R and Be my
- 37:27Speaker 4: whole life, obviously listening to hip hop, but I'm in
- 37:30Speaker 4: there singing every lyric in there with y'all going crazy
- 37:33Speaker 4: like karaoke, styff.
- 37:34Speaker 3: It's my only grape.
- 37:35Speaker 4: Though you talked about Houston to Toronto, we went to
- 37:38Speaker 4: the Vegas after parties. Yeah, yeah, trying to figure out
- 37:41Speaker 4: when's it coming to me?
- 37:42Speaker 5: No, well, I was gonna I was gonna save that
- 37:43Speaker 5: for off camera because we while we why because we
- 37:46Speaker 5: did we need a I had a birthday party that
- 37:50Speaker 5: was crazy, so Kenny Burns hosted it.
- 37:53Speaker 8: And David it was a DJ. Oh that's great.
- 37:57Speaker 5: So they were saying that, like, yo, we need to
- 37:59Speaker 5: kind of have this because it was very reminiscent of
- 38:01Speaker 5: an era that we grew up in New York, like
- 38:03Speaker 5: I had AZ performed, The Locks performed, ghost Face perform,
- 38:07Speaker 5: GZ King Mellow was there, so it was very nineties
- 38:11Speaker 5: New York vibe, right crazy. So as you was talking,
- 38:15Speaker 5: I was thinking, like, we need to do like a
- 38:16Speaker 5: rooftop this summer New York.
- 38:18Speaker 3: Sue that and just have that element. Do that.
- 38:22Speaker 7: Like at first I was talking somebody to my boy
- 38:24Speaker 7: Ryan last night, I was like, Yo, like New York,
- 38:27Speaker 7: this ship feels really good up here, you know what
- 38:30Speaker 7: I mean? Like random, I'm staying in Brooklyn and I
- 38:33Speaker 7: went to I went to some barn Williamsburg last night.
- 38:37Speaker 8: The DJ was rocking. I just walked. I walked by
- 38:40Speaker 8: DJ rock and I walked in.
- 38:42Speaker 7: And I was saying like, yo, like like we need
- 38:46Speaker 7: to do something here in New York. We got to
- 38:48Speaker 7: figure this out, you know what I'm saying, Because it's
- 38:50Speaker 7: just the it feels good. It feels like summertime is
- 38:53Speaker 7: getting ready to be crazy.
- 38:55Speaker 4: It was like it was like, as long as we're
- 38:59Speaker 4: thinking on the same, yeah, I feel I feel very
- 39:03Speaker 4: very good up here.
- 39:04Speaker 8: Like I was like, oh, this feels great.
- 39:06Speaker 5: Well, let me ask you the business model of like,
- 39:08Speaker 5: because a lot of people that's another business that a
- 39:10Speaker 5: lot of people want to get into. It's like party promoters.
- 39:12Speaker 5: They don't really understand how so it's like, bro, you.
- 39:17Speaker 3: All right, how do you do this?
- 39:18Speaker 5: Do you you just rent out the venue or do
- 39:20Speaker 5: you just get a percentage of the bar?
- 39:23Speaker 7: So you could do it either way, right, But for us,
- 39:25Speaker 7: we partner with Martini so or any club right that
- 39:30Speaker 7: we've done with that we did Ady and Houston, it's
- 39:33Speaker 7: the same kind of situation. We basically work out a
- 39:37Speaker 7: percentage of everything though for us because food, food, bar, hookah,
- 39:43Speaker 7: you know, and then we take one hundred percent of
- 39:44Speaker 7: the door. Now, mind you, we are you know, considered
- 39:48Speaker 7: now established, you know, an established brand. So these clubs
- 39:53Speaker 7: are more willing to Yeah, they're more inclined to do
- 39:58Speaker 7: those kind of deals with us. I know that the
- 40:01Speaker 7: standard was like you know, the standards like twenty percent,
- 40:04Speaker 7: twenty five percent.
- 40:05Speaker 8: Of the bar.
- 40:06Speaker 3: Then they do like they do the bar guarantee.
- 40:08Speaker 7: Yeah, bar guarantee. See we see, we don't we don't
- 40:09Speaker 7: want to do I don't don't do garantees.
- 40:11Speaker 5: But for people that don't know what the bar guarantee,
- 40:13Speaker 5: that's like if they say, like ten, you got to
- 40:15Speaker 5: hit ten thousand dollars and then you start making and
- 40:17Speaker 5: then you start making money after that, because they want
- 40:19Speaker 5: to make sure that they get.
- 40:20Speaker 3: Their money first. Yeah. So so, but yours comes from
- 40:24Speaker 3: the beginning.
- 40:24Speaker 7: Yea, from the beginning, from the gate because especially you
- 40:27Speaker 7: know now because like I said, we're proving brand and
- 40:29Speaker 7: know that the feet are going to be in there.
- 40:31Speaker 7: You know what I'm saying, I know that people are
- 40:32Speaker 7: going to be in there, to your bodies in there.
- 40:34Speaker 7: So so yeah, and even then us figuring out now
- 40:41Speaker 7: transitioning from you know, that business model into now ownership.
- 40:47Speaker 8: You know, we're trying to find a spot own. That's all.
- 40:50Speaker 8: That's all.
- 40:50Speaker 5: That's like, that's like ag Yeah, he owned, he used
- 40:54Speaker 5: to own both the club.
- 40:55Speaker 8: We owned so many clubs.
- 40:56Speaker 7: He owned Compound, Compound, he owned, uh, go Go Go Room,
- 41:01Speaker 7: he owned Vanquished and rain back in the day, he
- 41:05Speaker 7: owned Kaya. Uh what's the spot? I mean, I mean
- 41:10Speaker 7: he's had a lot of clubs. A g is like,
- 41:12Speaker 7: you know, he's like the club the night life legend
- 41:16Speaker 7: of at L.
- 41:17Speaker 4: You know what I'm saying, is there because I'm wondering
- 41:21Speaker 4: the formula for ladies of R and B s you
- 41:23Speaker 4: Keith next Mester, David, is there a way or is
- 41:27Speaker 4: there maybe a thought of licensing it to Oh yeah yeah,
- 41:30Speaker 4: let me we James can do it somewhere else.
- 41:32Speaker 8: Well, we're talking about it. We're trying to figure it out.
- 41:34Speaker 7: Like you know, me and Keith on the trademark and
- 41:36Speaker 7: we you know, we own we were on the brand.
- 41:38Speaker 7: We own a trademark. So we've definitely talked about it.
- 41:43Speaker 7: You know what I'm saying. I don't know if Keith
- 41:45Speaker 7: is ready to relinquish it yet. And it's such a
- 41:49Speaker 7: it's such a personal yeah, you know what I mean.
- 41:53Speaker 3: You know, we don't know.
- 41:54Speaker 7: We talked about franchise last year actually, and it just
- 41:57Speaker 7: it just has to make sense.
- 41:58Speaker 3: It has to be the whoever we would do it with.
- 42:01Speaker 7: We have to have the same kind of passion and
- 42:03Speaker 7: energy about you know, because keep your wish so hands
- 42:06Speaker 7: on with it, you know what I mean?
- 42:07Speaker 4: As you said franchise, because I'm thinking like it could
- 42:09Speaker 4: work right if you put the manual together, like this
- 42:11Speaker 4: is the playlist, Yeah, here's.
- 42:14Speaker 3: The songs, or you or you just go on tour,
- 42:17Speaker 3: well tour.
- 42:17Speaker 7: We're definitely gonna do that. We're doing a tour and
- 42:19Speaker 7: we also want to do well, we're going to do
- 42:21Speaker 7: a concert series. So we've already started the process with
- 42:25Speaker 7: artist singing.

- 44:17Speaker 1: An illegal alien from Guatemala charged with raping a child
- 44:21Speaker 1: in Massachusetts. An MS thirteen gang member from Al Salvador
- 44:25Speaker 1: accused of murdering a Texas man of Venezuelan charged with
- 44:29Speaker 1: filming and selling child pornography in Michigan. These are just
- 44:33Speaker 1: some of the heinous migrant criminals caught because of President
- 44:37Speaker 1: Donald J. Trump's leadership. I'm Christy Noman, the United States
- 44:41Speaker 1: Secretary of Homeland Security. Under President Trump, attempted illegal border
- 44:45Speaker 1: crossings are at the lowest levels ever recorded, and over
- 44:49Speaker 1: one hundred thousand illegal aliens have been arrested. If you
- 44:52Speaker 1: are here illegally. Your next you will be fined nearly
- 44:56Speaker 1: one thousand dollars a day, imprisoned, and deported. You will
- 45:00Speaker 1: never return. But if you registered using our CBP home
- 45:04Speaker 1: app and leave now, you could be allowed to return legally.
- 45:08Speaker 1: Do what's right. Leave now. Under President Trump America's laws,
- 45:13Speaker 1: border and families will.
- 45:14Speaker 2: Be protected sponsored by the United States Department of Homeland Security.
- 45:18Speaker 3: Like we're like almost like a you know, like a
- 45:22Speaker 3: DJ callid type.
- 45:23Speaker 8: Then yeah, but you know, but like live you know
- 45:26Speaker 8: what I'm.
- 45:27Speaker 3: Saying, different different cities.
- 45:29Speaker 5: Yeah, So bottle service, All right, let's talk about this
- 45:35Speaker 5: because you know, ready for this, I was going to
- 45:37Speaker 5: the clubs pretty much my whole entire life. So I
- 45:40Speaker 5: actually saw it transition from before there was no bottle service,
- 45:44Speaker 5: was just at the bund and then the bottle service
- 45:45Speaker 5: was like a very small VIP actually meant that it.
- 45:48Speaker 3: Was GVIP was just just walked in literally just told
- 45:52Speaker 3: about VIP was just VIP. The whole club wasn't the
- 45:56Speaker 3: whole club.
- 45:56Speaker 5: Then before you know it, the whole entire club became
- 46:00Speaker 5: service VP, right, and then the markup on these bottles
- 46:03Speaker 5: were from one hundred and fifty to two hundred, three
- 46:05Speaker 5: hundred two seven hundred eight like you sometimes you gotta
- 46:09Speaker 5: pay thirteen hundred dollars just to get like.
- 46:11Speaker 3: A little stand up table in Miami. Right.
- 46:15Speaker 5: So it's like, as a nightlife promoter, I know it's
- 46:20Speaker 5: good for your revenue, but do you think that it's
- 46:22Speaker 5: this it's not really sustainable, Like do you think that
- 46:25Speaker 5: it's kind of messed up the club.
- 46:26Speaker 3: To think it messed up the club better? I think
- 46:28Speaker 3: it messed up the club absolutely, I think that.
- 46:30Speaker 7: I mean, granted, my personal opinion is also, you know,
- 46:35Speaker 7: this is take me out. I'm taking my business self
- 46:38Speaker 7: out of the equation at this point. A person who
- 46:41Speaker 7: came up djang in clubs, who makes music that plays
- 46:47Speaker 7: in the clubs, who actually enjoyed going out when I
- 46:50Speaker 7: was younger, and I remember going out and you could
- 46:54Speaker 7: you could bag the short at.
- 46:56Speaker 3: The bar, you know what I mean, what what you're drinking?
- 47:01Speaker 7: Yeah, you know, five around the drinks for them, you know,
- 47:05Speaker 7: two rounds you like? I remember, though, you know what
- 47:08Speaker 7: I mean, I remember that those days. Also you could
- 47:11Speaker 7: take the showy out to the dance floor. Y'all could
- 47:13Speaker 7: dance and y'all could talk, and you know, like there
- 47:15Speaker 7: was there was more interaction before this bottle service section
- 47:21Speaker 7: business model. There was more people interaction, you know what
- 47:25Speaker 7: I mean. Right now there are there's there's really.
- 47:28Speaker 3: No you can't meet somebody at the club now.
- 47:31Speaker 8: I mean unless you unless y'all go into the bathroom.
- 47:33Speaker 5: The past, you gotta grabberr you got you gotta bring
- 47:36Speaker 5: your party to.
- 47:37Speaker 3: Bring the party out that you grab the person because
- 47:40Speaker 3: she might be with somebody.
- 47:41Speaker 7: So you still it's like the interaction, the actual club interaction,
- 47:47Speaker 7: you know what I'm saying. The people people used to
- 47:49Speaker 7: go to the club to do somebody. That's that's over with.
- 47:52Speaker 7: Now it's like, look at me, Look at me. How
- 47:54Speaker 7: many people I got in the sexual with me? Look
- 47:56Speaker 7: how many bottles I got. It's a whole different kind
- 47:58Speaker 7: of vibe now, you know what I mean. So that's
- 48:00Speaker 7: what I'm saying, Like, I like, now I'm making my
- 48:03Speaker 7: duty to really roam the club. If y'all y'all been
- 48:08Speaker 7: at I roamed the club, because if I don't, I
- 48:11Speaker 7: won't see anybody, right, that's the fact, you know what
- 48:13Speaker 7: I'm sayingbody just stays in that section. Yeah, if I
- 48:15Speaker 7: don't roam the club, I won't see anybody. It's that
- 48:17Speaker 7: B MF that revolutionized bottles. That era, Yes, that era.
- 48:21Speaker 7: I don't think that they intended it for it to
- 48:23Speaker 7: be like that.
- 48:24Speaker 3: It would be just, but it's like what they literally rate.
- 48:30Speaker 5: They werere the economy in the club, right, because they
- 48:32Speaker 5: raised it's like home comps, right, like when somebody pays
- 48:36Speaker 5: a million dollars for home every home in the neighborhood.
- 48:38Speaker 3: Wor true. So and I wasn't there, you was there?
- 48:41Speaker 5: So from one of the stories that I heard, they
- 48:42Speaker 5: spend a million dollars a half a million dollars in
- 48:44Speaker 5: the club.
- 48:45Speaker 3: It never really they didn't come back down exactly.
- 48:49Speaker 7: I remember when I remember one time y'o Visions, I'm correct,
- 48:53Speaker 7: I remember, I'm correct that I think I think Slim
- 48:57Speaker 7: was with me symptoms with I can't remember, but I
- 49:00Speaker 7: and we were trying to get bottles and we went
- 49:02Speaker 7: to we went the Vision and we Alex to put
- 49:04Speaker 7: us on the table and we were trying to buy bottles.
- 49:06Speaker 7: And Alex was like, Yo, there's no bottles to buy.
- 49:08Speaker 7: And I was like, what you mean, there's no bottles
- 49:13Speaker 7: to buy? Like literally, they bought every bottle in the club.
- 49:17Speaker 7: You're gonna have to go talk to him about basically
- 49:23Speaker 7: what the strategy was. If I bowed the bottles in
- 49:26Speaker 7: the club, the artists and the producers and the creatives
- 49:30Speaker 7: would have to come talk to me, and and then
- 49:33Speaker 7: I could I could STAPs relationship, give them, give them bottles,
- 49:37Speaker 7: like the bottles ain't ship, you know what I'm saying.
- 49:40Speaker 7: So then they so you go talk to you, go
- 49:42Speaker 7: talk to the homie, kick kick it with him, take
- 49:45Speaker 7: a few shots of them, and he's like, Yo, make
- 49:46Speaker 7: grab what y'all want, you know.
- 49:48Speaker 3: So he's like, so that so that you're right in
- 49:52Speaker 3: that way, from an E.
- 49:53Speaker 7: Kondomy perspective, it did just mark everything up and then
- 49:58Speaker 7: it just never really came back down.
- 50:00Speaker 3: But kind of a little bit, you know what I mean.
- 50:02Speaker 7: But it's not like how we used to be, yeah,
- 50:05Speaker 7: back in the back when like literally it used to
- 50:07Speaker 7: be if you had a like before that era, if
- 50:11Speaker 7: you had if you.
- 50:11Speaker 3: Had a bottle, you were somebody. You were you had
- 50:14Speaker 3: like if you were.
- 50:14Speaker 7: Walking to the club with one bottle of champagne, like
- 50:19Speaker 7: you got you know what I'm saying like that, yeah,
- 50:23Speaker 7: you know, yeah, no, but yeah, but like it's it's
- 50:29Speaker 7: it's definitely not like that now. But you know, you know,
- 50:32Speaker 7: you know what's interesting though, the trend that I'm saying
- 50:35Speaker 7: now is Okay, bottles are still a thing, right, but
- 50:39Speaker 7: bottles are kind of like, well, the trend I'm saying
- 50:41Speaker 7: in Atlanta is you got to have six or seven
- 50:44Speaker 7: hookahs on the on the table.
- 50:45Speaker 3: It's like, out, bro, the whole good thing is just
- 50:48Speaker 3: going to good out bro.
- 50:50Speaker 7: No, no, really, it's really to a point where we've
- 50:56Speaker 7: had some servers to book tables, you know, at Red Martini,
- 51:01Speaker 7: and they'll bring it. You know, they did thinking that
- 51:04Speaker 7: the most important thing is to bottles. So they you know,
- 51:08Speaker 7: they're bringing the bottles out that you're fast, you give
- 51:10Speaker 7: me credit card, bring the battle are fast. There are
- 51:13Speaker 7: people who won't start drinking. And then and I'm walking by,
- 51:18Speaker 7: like he'll be couse to the lady to bring the
- 51:20Speaker 7: hookah like what hoocas? I wanted like five hookas.
- 51:22Speaker 3: I'm gonna shit hookahs like and it's like it's really
- 51:27Speaker 3: literally and it's crazy.
- 51:29Speaker 7: I mean I remember when it started and Crudose to
- 51:33Speaker 7: a g again his brother Simon.
- 51:36Speaker 8: They would have random vanquished.
- 51:37Speaker 7: What Simon would do is that he would put when
- 51:41Speaker 7: you bought a table, he would give you hookah for free,
- 51:45Speaker 7: just put it.
- 51:46Speaker 3: On the table. Right.
- 51:47Speaker 7: So initially you're looking at the ship lane. That's this,
- 51:53Speaker 7: But then what started happening was you would look at
- 51:55Speaker 7: Simon's section right, and all the girls and all the
- 52:00Speaker 7: bad East African girls over there, they'ld be like, they're
- 52:02Speaker 7: like they're having a ball over there. It's like twenty
- 52:04Speaker 7: hookahs on the table. So you're like, when you want
- 52:07Speaker 7: the girls at your table too, So let's do let's
- 52:10Speaker 7: let's start, you know what I mean. And that's really
- 52:12Speaker 7: I watched them really build that popularity. Hookah was not
- 52:19Speaker 7: nothing in Atlanta before that, you know what I'm saying,
- 52:21Speaker 7: Like you have to you if you smoked hooka in Atlanta,
- 52:24Speaker 7: you was actually going to a real hookah spot.
- 52:27Speaker 8: It was probably from that region, you.
- 52:29Speaker 3: Know what I'm saying, Like, like you know what I'm saying,
- 52:31Speaker 3: Like you wouldn't like the average Black Americans just going
- 52:34Speaker 3: to the you know, hookahs spot.
- 52:36Speaker 8: It wasn't like that, you know what I mean? And
- 52:39Speaker 8: they they changed.
- 52:40Speaker 7: It like you like, and that shit spread like wildfire everywhere.
- 52:45Speaker 8: So I'm just not what Atlanta you know what I'm.
- 52:46Speaker 7: Saying, like like you you you can't even like I
- 52:51Speaker 7: have friends that won't even go to certain restaurants.
- 52:54Speaker 3: Because it's no hookah. Yeah they yeah, they got hookah
- 52:56Speaker 3: in the restaurants or Anything's just.
- 52:58Speaker 7: Like for real, like if like Ye's go to Noble Man,
- 53:01Speaker 7: no hook over there, Like what you're gonna pass Noble up?
- 53:06Speaker 7: Because Okay, well, I.
- 53:10Speaker 3: See you guys have like what you know, I mean,
- 53:13Speaker 3: you know, and I granted you know, we we we're
- 53:16Speaker 3: all we're you know, guilty of it smoking hookah.
- 53:18Speaker 7: We all smoke hookah. But it's like, bro, like I'm
- 53:21Speaker 7: not gonna not go to a five restaurant. Isn't a
- 53:26Speaker 7: hooka in there?
- 53:26Speaker 3: Bro?
- 53:27Speaker 5: The hookah thinks kind of well, you know way it
- 53:29Speaker 5: causes issues because it takes it takes up a lot
- 53:32Speaker 5: of space.
- 53:33Speaker 3: It's actually kind of like dangerous.
- 53:34Speaker 7: To dangerous and comforts. So yeah, if you have that,
- 53:37Speaker 7: you gotta go. It's like like double please, Yeah, it
- 53:42Speaker 7: is it is. It is dangerous, It is cold, it
- 53:46Speaker 7: is dangerous. Blocohol and cohls together is a.
- 53:50Speaker 3: Somebody knocked the hookos That proper food.
- 53:53Speaker 7: Used to be like fifteen ten dollars of proper business
- 53:56Speaker 7: now dark.
- 53:58Speaker 3: Hookah hundred dolls Damn damn.
- 54:02Speaker 8: Yep, that's a lot of flavors.
- 54:04Speaker 5: How important is customer service in that business? I think
- 54:07Speaker 5: that's another business lesson, like as far as the night, Like,
- 54:10Speaker 5: you got your regulars at my table, you got to
- 54:12Speaker 5: cater to them. You got to make sure that people.
- 54:14Speaker 5: That's my biggest thing. I hate when I go to the
- 54:16Speaker 5: clubs and I gotta wait for these bottles. You're already
- 54:19Speaker 5: spending fifteen hundred and two thousand dollars and then I've
- 54:21Speaker 5: waited sometimes like forty minutes.
- 54:23Speaker 3: It's like, yo, bro, I just want the boy.
- 54:25Speaker 8: The bottle, but I just gave you guys too bad
- 54:27Speaker 8: to do two bands?
- 54:28Speaker 3: Bro, talk like talk about the important right there, guys.
- 54:30Speaker 7: Well for me, yeah, for me, that's another reason why
- 54:33Speaker 7: I roam the club because I want to make sure
- 54:36Speaker 7: that people are getting what they need, you know what
- 54:40Speaker 7: I'm saying. So for me, customer services everything, you know
- 54:45Speaker 7: what I mean, And we try to embark that on,
- 54:50Speaker 7: you know, on the service you know what I mean,
- 54:52Speaker 7: like yo, like, and I would say eighty five percent
- 54:57Speaker 7: of the time they get it right, you know what
- 54:58Speaker 7: I'm saying, but it's hard, you know, and it's when
- 55:02Speaker 7: it's when it's packed and it's busy. It's like, I
- 55:05Speaker 7: understand how difficult it is to navigate, you know, in
- 55:08Speaker 7: the club. But Christmas services everything, which is why I
- 55:11Speaker 7: roam the club. If I see my momber coming, I
- 55:13Speaker 7: see something that's like yo, y'all, good y'all.
- 55:16Speaker 3: They still a bure you hands on with security everything. Yeah.
- 55:20Speaker 4: So I think what makes the party so successful it's
- 55:23Speaker 4: because there's an era of just great music. To make
- 55:27Speaker 4: this thing sustainable, it has to have a continuation of
- 55:29Speaker 4: eras of great music. Yes, what do you feel like
- 55:32Speaker 4: the state of R and B music is right now?
- 55:35Speaker 4: Like we you know, for every Summer Walker, it's like
- 55:38Speaker 4: the next person.
- 55:39Speaker 7: I think R and B is actually prime to be
- 55:42Speaker 7: in really good shape. You know, you have Coco Jones,
- 55:44Speaker 7: you got Sister, you got October London, you got a
- 55:47Speaker 7: Lucky Day, you got Jack Freeman, you got you know,
- 55:52Speaker 7: you have all these artists that yeah, Brent Fias, you
- 55:55Speaker 7: know you have all these artists division.
- 55:58Speaker 4: Uh, I've been trying to tell them like how big
- 56:01Speaker 4: yeah vision. You know you have all these artists that are.
- 56:07Speaker 7: That are now like really serving the R and B genre,
- 56:11Speaker 7: like Kenyan Dixon, Like it's just so many hours like
- 56:15Speaker 7: a name that I think that are now serving R
- 56:18Speaker 7: and B genre, proper Clio, soul, neil me Sharing.
- 56:23Speaker 3: You know, there's just a lot.
- 56:23Speaker 7: Of artists now that want to do the music, that
- 56:26Speaker 7: want to actually do that music. So I think that
- 56:30Speaker 7: we are going to be in good shape. I feel
- 56:32Speaker 7: like we're we're heading towards a space where we're going
- 56:36Speaker 7: to see an influx of new R and B, new traditional.
- 56:41Speaker 8: R and B.
- 56:43Speaker 7: Music, you know coming out, you know what I mean,
- 56:45Speaker 7: versus it, versus versus And I know theres a lot
- 56:48Speaker 7: of you know, toxic R and B is like so
- 56:51Speaker 7: popular now, you know what I mean. But I think
- 56:54Speaker 7: that even with what's happening with the Money Long Record,
- 56:57Speaker 7: you know, you got to see that people are want
- 57:00Speaker 7: to want to transition back into the love language space,
- 57:05Speaker 7: you know what I mean.
- 57:06Speaker 4: I hear it like when you hear that song, you hear, oh,
- 57:08Speaker 4: this is gonna be timeless. I think Sissa has one
- 57:09Speaker 4: with Snooze that's gonna be timeless. October London is interesting
- 57:13Speaker 4: because that sound.
- 57:15Speaker 3: But Siss said that she's not R and b artists.
- 57:17Speaker 4: I'm saying the song, the song Snooze, it just feels
- 57:19Speaker 4: like that's just gonna be a timeless record. When you
- 57:21Speaker 4: hear it, It's like that can play forever. It's like
- 57:23Speaker 4: the Tevin Campbell things. People may not remember any song,
- 57:26Speaker 4: they know that one and we try.
- 57:27Speaker 8: To go know and Snuo's definitely one of those songs.
- 57:29Speaker 3: That's one of those songs.
- 57:30Speaker 4: So I'm even thinking of like these artists, Like we
- 57:31Speaker 4: were talking about Brett and I was just like, he
- 57:34Speaker 4: got a couple of them?
- 57:35Speaker 3: Are they timeless?
- 57:35Speaker 4: Like Jackie Brown for me is like I think for
- 57:37Speaker 4: this generation might be that one.
- 57:39Speaker 8: I like Jackie Brown. Jackie Brown is definitely one of
- 57:41Speaker 8: these songs popular.
- 57:42Speaker 3: Right, It's gonna be like are they making I see
- 57:45Speaker 3: you could be one?
- 57:47Speaker 4: I use definitely. I think it's one of them. Yeah,
- 57:49Speaker 4: I think, Okay, we'll give it that. We're gonna give
- 57:51Speaker 4: it that. But like, are there enough artists making these
- 57:53Speaker 4: timeless records? Are they making these records for modern days?
- 57:56Speaker 8: They're making a lot of time stamp records.
- 57:58Speaker 7: You know, It's hard, you know, and it's hard not
- 57:59Speaker 7: too at this point because it's we're living in a
- 58:03Speaker 7: dsp era. I mean, we're not living in the com
- 58:05Speaker 7: CDs tape you know, LP era. We're living in the
- 58:09Speaker 7: era with you know music, it's fast, you know what
- 58:13Speaker 7: I mean. We live in an era where you could
- 58:15Speaker 7: drop a song. You can make us on today, drop
- 58:17Speaker 7: it the day if you watch, you know. I mean,
- 58:19Speaker 7: we're living in a real fast So it's it's hard
- 58:24Speaker 7: not to make time stamp records, you know what I mean.
- 58:25Speaker 7: But then the people who make records that are you know,
- 58:31Speaker 7: that are timeless, you know, or they strive for timeless,
- 58:35Speaker 7: they stand out, you know, Like you know, I think
- 58:39Speaker 7: that Silk Sonics leave that or open. It's a record
- 58:41Speaker 7: that's gonna play forever, you know what I mean. It's
- 58:44Speaker 7: super sinkable soup super you know what I mean. Yeah,
- 58:47Speaker 7: I think I think that's one of those songs that's
- 58:49Speaker 7: gonna play, you know what I mean, No matter what,
- 58:51Speaker 7: it's not going to be like oh remember that song
- 58:53Speaker 7: they made?
- 58:54Speaker 3: You know what I mean?
- 58:55Speaker 7: You know it feels it you can feel Yeah, So
- 59:01Speaker 7: I don't know, man, you know, it's it's whoever leans
- 59:05Speaker 7: into that, you know what I mean? Like if you know,
- 59:08Speaker 7: I feel like Brent is an interesting He's interesting because
- 59:12Speaker 7: it feels like he is the time stamp, you know
- 59:16Speaker 7: what I mean, which kind of makes him timeless, you
- 59:19Speaker 7: know what I mean. I mean like like he he's
- 59:22Speaker 7: he's the guy that everybody's kind of like, you know
- 59:25Speaker 7: you when I hear like a A four bats, I
- 59:30Speaker 7: feel like he's trying to do Brent, even though Brent.
- 59:34Speaker 3: You know what I mean, you know what I'm saying,
- 59:36Speaker 3: He's like he's trying to do that. It's like.
- 59:40Speaker 7: It's like that's what his goal, his goal, his goal
- 59:42Speaker 7: post is, you know what I mean. So to me,
- 59:47Speaker 7: Brent is a you know, he's he he is the
- 59:51Speaker 7: sound of the time when it comes to these young
- 59:54Speaker 7: cats coming up.
- 59:54Speaker 8: But I think that.
- 59:57Speaker 7: If you know, Coca Jones leans into her classic ship
- 1:00:01Speaker 7: if you know, it says who says she's done R
- 1:00:03Speaker 7: and B artist, which I understand her point of view,
- 1:00:07Speaker 7: you know what I mean, because of record like kill Bill,
- 1:00:09Speaker 7: which was number one on a on a pop shot.
- 1:00:14Speaker 7: As soon as you make a record like that, you're
- 1:00:15Speaker 7: not an R and B artist no more, you know
- 1:00:17Speaker 7: what I mean.
- 1:00:18Speaker 8: So I understand her pop star, you know what I'm saying.
- 1:00:21Speaker 7: If she was a white artist and had done to
- 1:00:25Speaker 7: Kill Bill and it's news she would be a pop artist.
- 1:00:29Speaker 7: It wouldn't. They wouldn't, you know what I mean. She
- 1:00:31Speaker 7: would be like yeah, or you know, or competing in
- 1:00:34Speaker 7: that space.
- 1:00:36Speaker 5: Uh.
- 1:00:37Speaker 7: But because she's a you know, dark skinned, thick black chick,
- 1:00:39Speaker 7: you know, and she's been known to make she's made
- 1:00:44Speaker 7: R and B music for so long, you know, it's
- 1:00:48Speaker 7: like you stop making alternative music and people still and
- 1:00:52Speaker 7: you make alternatives, start making any hits and she don't
- 1:00:55Speaker 7: like she you know, kill Bill's a smash, you know
- 1:00:57Speaker 7: what I mean.
- 1:00:58Speaker 3: So it was like The Weekends a pop artist.
- 1:01:01Speaker 7: I would consider him a pop artist, but he considers
- 1:01:03Speaker 7: it an R and B tho a RB. People considered
- 1:01:06Speaker 7: the Weekend R and B with you, you know what
- 1:01:08Speaker 7: I mean. I think he's popp I think he's popped too.
- 1:01:10Speaker 7: Always I agree with you, I agree with you. I agree.
- 1:01:13Speaker 7: I mean from even from the House of Wounds out,
- 1:01:15Speaker 7: I always thought I never put him in a one
- 1:01:18Speaker 7: of those mixtapes were coming out. I never put him
- 1:01:19Speaker 7: in an R and B box. Always felt like, oh,
- 1:01:21Speaker 7: this ship is alternative.
- 1:01:22Speaker 3: This sh like you know what I mean?
- 1:01:23Speaker 4: R and B is like it's usher it's Chris Brown
- 1:01:25Speaker 4: and then yes, everybody else falls under that.
- 1:01:27Speaker 5: But then it's a different I think even Chris Brown
- 1:01:29Speaker 5: has ushered in a subdivision of.
- 1:01:33Speaker 3: Rap RN.
- 1:01:34Speaker 5: Yeah, even like Tory Lane, like that's that. Yeah, it's
- 1:01:38Speaker 5: a rap blast, it's a rap. They're like literally rapping.
- 1:01:43Speaker 5: There's singing lyrics that should be rapped. They're like harmonizing
- 1:01:48Speaker 5: it like.
- 1:01:49Speaker 7: Yeah, like yeah, it's traditional R and B. When I
- 1:01:53Speaker 7: say when I say the ways word traditional R and B,
- 1:01:55Speaker 7: I'm thinking usher.
- 1:01:57Speaker 3: I'm thinking old school like Mary J.
- 1:01:59Speaker 5: Blog Lies, because like these dudes that do six bars singing,
- 1:02:02Speaker 5: then they do four bars rapping, then they you know,
- 1:02:05Speaker 5: it's and then they might have a whole song rapping
- 1:02:07Speaker 5: and songs singing and like going back and forth with them,
- 1:02:10Speaker 5: and Chris Brown can't really rap.
- 1:02:12Speaker 3: We see nothing.
- 1:02:12Speaker 8: Yeah, I mean dog.
- 1:02:15Speaker 7: Dog that was I was like wow, I mean quick,
- 1:02:21Speaker 7: I was like yo, man was like wow that.
- 1:02:26Speaker 3: That was gonna respond to that.
- 1:02:27Speaker 7: I thought that that was so just crazy because I
- 1:02:32Speaker 7: was like, you know, you you you hear the Drake
- 1:02:35Speaker 7: and Kendrick thing escalated. It was like it was it
- 1:02:38Speaker 7: was slow and then and then it just you know
- 1:02:41Speaker 7: what I mean then it escalated really fast.
- 1:02:43Speaker 3: Chris Chris, Chris Brown didn't let that man. Chris was
- 1:02:50Speaker 3: like talking to you directly, and I'm going to tell
- 1:02:53Speaker 3: you be like it was.
- 1:02:54Speaker 8: I'm like, yo, my man is scathing.
- 1:02:57Speaker 3: Yo. You know that was offensive? Yeah?
- 1:03:00Speaker 8: So yeah attack, yeah. No, I was like, well that
- 1:03:04Speaker 8: you said that, didn't it quickly?
- 1:03:06Speaker 3: That you have a lazy I was kind of.
- 1:03:10Speaker 7: Like tuned into that one, like you know, the you know,
- 1:03:12Speaker 7: the the Drake and Kindrick. Initially, I was like, always
- 1:03:15Speaker 7: seemed like they're gonna be you know, it's going to be,
- 1:03:18Speaker 7: you know, a little banter for a little I thought
- 1:03:20Speaker 7: it was gonna go on a little longer. I thought
- 1:03:22Speaker 7: it was gonna be like some of us, I'm gonna
- 1:03:24Speaker 7: come back to that. I'm I'm watching the Chris Brown.
- 1:03:28Speaker 3: That was.
- 1:03:28Speaker 8: That ship ended fast.
- 1:03:32Speaker 5: Well, speaking of that, Drake So gets a lot of
- 1:03:34Speaker 5: criticism for not writing his rhymes. Allegedly you as a writer, right,
- 1:03:39Speaker 5: but hip hop is different than R and B.
- 1:03:40Speaker 3: I yeah, yeah.
- 1:03:42Speaker 5: Do you think that that discredits his legacy because it
- 1:03:44Speaker 5: just Kanye West doesn't write a lot of his stuff
- 1:03:47Speaker 5: at all.
- 1:03:49Speaker 3: Kanye has a lot of people in the room with him,
- 1:03:52Speaker 3: Kanye is also Kanye.
- 1:03:53Speaker 7: He's a producer's an entity, He's he's the vision, right,
- 1:03:57Speaker 7: and it doesn't discredit him because he has so much
- 1:04:00Speaker 7: back then.
- 1:04:00Speaker 3: What I'm saying people don't. I don't. People don't criticize
- 1:04:03Speaker 3: Kanye the way they criticized Drake. I don't think people
- 1:04:05Speaker 3: ever looked at Kanye is a really as a real rapper.
- 1:04:08Speaker 8: You know what I'm saying. I mean, no disrespect kinds
- 1:04:11Speaker 8: of women dropped out graduation.
- 1:04:14Speaker 7: I mean the stories, the stories are legendary and how
- 1:04:17Speaker 7: they how the labels was clowning them. You know what
- 1:04:20Speaker 7: I mean, there's a legendary how they thought that. You know,
- 1:04:23Speaker 7: he he willed himself because people doubted him, you know
- 1:04:26Speaker 7: what I mean, they never viewed him that way. Yeah,
- 1:04:29Speaker 7: so he always wanted to be viewed that way and
- 1:04:31Speaker 7: they never viewed that way. That's what willed.
- 1:04:32Speaker 3: So he's not held to that. Yeah, it was that
- 1:04:34Speaker 3: nice graduation, Kanye want the greatest of ever doing it.
- 1:04:38Speaker 3: He's outside the assistance. Yeah, let's not.
- 1:04:41Speaker 7: Yeah, let's not like he's he's he's him, you know
- 1:04:43Speaker 7: what I mean when it comes to you know, his legacy.
- 1:04:46Speaker 5: But so Drake, how do you feel about this situation
- 1:04:49Speaker 5: where it's a constant thing you as a writer, what's
- 1:04:51Speaker 5: your take on this?
- 1:04:52Speaker 7: Well, first of all, Drake, Drake is actually a superb songwriter.
- 1:04:57Speaker 7: I think that people, you know, when you have collaborators,
- 1:05:01Speaker 7: sometimes those collaborations can be, uh can be maximized a
- 1:05:10Speaker 7: little more than what they really are. And I will
- 1:05:12Speaker 7: say this, when you have the Quinin Miller demos, that's
- 1:05:16Speaker 7: where it gets a little weird, right. But but I've
- 1:05:22Speaker 7: known Drake to be somebody who's always been that. That
- 1:05:24Speaker 7: was always his strong point. Him writing was always his
- 1:05:27Speaker 7: strong point. Now he's always had a flare of R
- 1:05:31Speaker 7: and B in there. He's always had a flair of
- 1:05:32Speaker 7: you know what I mean. So I think that maybe
- 1:05:35Speaker 7: that is what is part of the discrediting too. As
- 1:05:39Speaker 7: far as the MCS, MCS when he came out, it
- 1:05:42Speaker 7: wasn't the rap singing thing wasn't really a.
- 1:05:47Speaker 3: So so so.
- 1:05:50Speaker 7: You have people who are rappers looking at him like's
- 1:05:53Speaker 7: the singer he can he's a singer, a rapper, you
- 1:05:56Speaker 7: know what I mean. So he already kind of had
- 1:05:59Speaker 7: had an up here, you know, battle to climb, you know,
- 1:06:02Speaker 7: he was he was already going to be uphill with that, right,
- 1:06:06Speaker 7: and then you add and then when you start, you know,
- 1:06:09Speaker 7: collaborating with people, because I mean even you know the
- 1:06:14Speaker 7: Jay who we all you know, admire and and look
- 1:06:17Speaker 7: as one of the greatest, probably if not the greatest, right,
- 1:06:20Speaker 7: you know, I'm not saying he had collaborates, but he
- 1:06:23Speaker 7: was inspired, you know, Biggie inspired, Chris and Neif inspired.
- 1:06:27Speaker 7: You know, he's had people around him, Beanie you know,
- 1:06:30Speaker 7: now he might not have he didn't take any bars
- 1:06:32Speaker 7: from him, but you know, so yeah, certain flows you
- 1:06:36Speaker 7: could tell.
- 1:06:37Speaker 3: Like it's Philly, you know, it's like p D. Krack,
- 1:06:40Speaker 3: you know what.
- 1:06:40Speaker 7: You could tell certain flows he took based on being
- 1:06:44Speaker 7: inspired right with Drake, you know it, it's a slippery
- 1:06:50Speaker 7: slope when you have people in the room. You know,
- 1:06:54Speaker 7: you're supposed to be the guy, the guy, the MC
- 1:06:58Speaker 7: of all mcs. You have people in the room feeding
- 1:07:00Speaker 7: you lines. You know, it's it's it's it's it's allegedly.
- 1:07:05Speaker 8: I'm sorry, allegedly.
- 1:07:06Speaker 3: That's feeding you line is alleged, it's legit. Well we
- 1:07:09Speaker 3: know that I've never sat in the room. He has
- 1:07:11Speaker 3: co writers, yeah, reference tracks, not co writers. So yeah,
- 1:07:16Speaker 3: so yeah, because that you don't know.
- 1:07:18Speaker 7: Also, that's nothing you don't know, Like like I've been
- 1:07:22Speaker 7: in a room where somebody was in the booth right
- 1:07:25Speaker 7: and another songwriters in the booth and they can't come
- 1:07:30Speaker 7: up with something they're supposed to come up for whatever,
- 1:07:32Speaker 7: and I'm feeding them lines and they're actually saying the line.
- 1:07:36Speaker 7: So and it's on pro tools. So we don't know what.
- 1:07:40Speaker 7: We don't know what that Quinn Miller reference track was.
- 1:07:44Speaker 7: We don't know if Drake was in the control room
- 1:07:48Speaker 7: saying no do it like this says is you know,
- 1:07:51Speaker 7: give me a guideline of his what you know?
- 1:07:53Speaker 8: We don't know what that was. You don't know what
- 1:07:54Speaker 8: the process was.
- 1:07:55Speaker 7: And I'm only giving I'm only giving people to grace
- 1:08:00Speaker 7: because I'm everybody's talking like they was in the studio.
- 1:08:05Speaker 7: I'm literally be in a studio, and I know how
- 1:08:07Speaker 7: the process goes when you're when you're writing with someone,
- 1:08:09Speaker 7: you know what I mean. So so it's it's a
- 1:08:13Speaker 7: it's a slippery slope for dude, you know what I mean.
- 1:08:18Speaker 7: And you know it was a few names that Kendricks named,
- 1:08:21Speaker 7: a few writers he named and that and that and
- 1:08:24Speaker 7: that scathing disc you know what I mean, and I'm like,
- 1:08:28Speaker 7: you know, it's it's it's a slippery slope. I'll say
- 1:08:33Speaker 7: this though, He's what I do. I mean, there are
- 1:08:36Speaker 7: a lot of things that I uh respect about Drake
- 1:08:42Speaker 7: as an artist and as a creative. Like I said,
- 1:08:44Speaker 7: I do know you know, him writing for other people,
- 1:08:48Speaker 7: writing unthinkable for Alicia Keys right, like like like this
- 1:08:51Speaker 7: guy his penish spinish really good. I don't want people
- 1:08:56Speaker 7: to it's not it's not like it's not he's got
- 1:09:00Speaker 7: a premium pain. Let's not play like that's not what's happening,
- 1:09:04Speaker 7: you know what I mean. You know he's he writes
- 1:09:06Speaker 7: hiss for other people too, you know what I mean.
- 1:09:08Speaker 7: You know, yeah, when Kanye West, he's flip flopped. But
- 1:09:11Speaker 7: when Kanye says, uh, I want always drink the right,
- 1:09:15Speaker 7: I want to drink that write my whole album, like
- 1:09:18Speaker 7: in that moment, that was an honest place for him.
- 1:09:20Speaker 8: He felt that that was like you know what I mean.
- 1:09:24Speaker 7: So you don't get somebody to say that if they
- 1:09:28Speaker 7: haven't been in the room with you and seeing that
- 1:09:30Speaker 7: you get to get down like that, you know what
- 1:09:32Speaker 7: I mean. I will say that that battle has been
- 1:09:37Speaker 7: uh probably one for the book.
- 1:09:39Speaker 8: So I've never seen anything.
- 1:09:41Speaker 3: Like I think it was the best battle ever.
- 1:09:43Speaker 7: I've never seen anything like that factor in all the
- 1:09:45Speaker 7: factors and just how fast, Yeah, rapid.
- 1:09:48Speaker 8: I've never seen anything like.
- 1:09:50Speaker 4: That, that creative, that fast, Yeah, that impact.
- 1:09:52Speaker 5: And it's the first social media yes super mega battle.
- 1:09:57Speaker 5: Yes right, so it's like having everybody chime in in
- 1:10:00Speaker 5: real time.
- 1:10:00Speaker 3: We couldn't chime in with the other battles. Yeah that was.
- 1:10:07Speaker 7: Neighborhood, but this is a worldwide conversation, right, and family
- 1:10:12Speaker 7: matters dropped and I was like, okay, right, I was like, okay,
- 1:10:16Speaker 7: all right, Drake, let's go fight back fight.
- 1:10:20Speaker 8: It wasn't even that wasn't an hour.
- 1:10:21Speaker 3: It was like a half an hour. It wasn't even hour.
- 1:10:24Speaker 3: It was it was quick. It wasn't even an hour. Later,
- 1:10:28Speaker 3: he drops the.
- 1:10:30Speaker 5: Bomb clips he solely eclipsed his whole rollout, like questions on, like,
- 1:10:37Speaker 5: there's no that that's probably the most the best strategic
- 1:10:40Speaker 5: moving hip hop ever.
- 1:10:41Speaker 7: And it's like, bro, it was like because but what
- 1:10:44Speaker 7: I what I appreciate about Kendrick too is that he
- 1:10:46Speaker 7: knows that drink is strategic, like like like Meek wasn't
- 1:10:50Speaker 7: wasn't First of all, Meek was just I don't know
- 1:10:52Speaker 7: what was going on. When did them tweets? And he
- 1:10:55Speaker 7: started that and didn't have like a strategy. You're dealing
- 1:10:59Speaker 7: with a guy who really all he does is strategize,
- 1:11:02Speaker 7: you know what I mean, he's you know what I mean.
- 1:11:04Speaker 7: So what I can preach my Kendrick is that he
- 1:11:05Speaker 7: knew his opponent going into this.
- 1:11:09Speaker 3: He knew what to be prepared, and he took the time.
- 1:11:10Speaker 3: He took the time.
- 1:11:11Speaker 7: And when he was talking about when Drakes somebody dropped drive,
- 1:11:13Speaker 7: we know you writing them double the tripleandras and.
- 1:11:17Speaker 4: And he was like, yeah, sitting in that room in Brooklyn, Yeah, okay,
- 1:11:21Speaker 4: got you, I got you.
- 1:11:22Speaker 8: I'm I'm I'm on, I'm on, I'm on.
- 1:11:24Speaker 7: Your head time he was, he was, you know what
- 1:11:26Speaker 7: I'm saying, like the flurries to just.
- 1:11:33Speaker 4: I mean, he gave us the song that's going to
- 1:11:35Speaker 4: be the song of the summer, The song of the
- 1:11:37Speaker 4: summer might be the song of the West Coast going forward.
- 1:11:39Speaker 3: Oh yeah, who knows. Flawless flawless execution on his part.
- 1:11:44Speaker 8: Feels very very hit him uppish.
- 1:11:47Speaker 4: Yeah, I think bigger Bill, Yeah, absolutely think bigger, absolutely Yeah.
- 1:11:50Speaker 3: Absolutely. I was like, oh, this boy studyed, he studied,
- 1:11:53Speaker 3: he studied that that battle very well. Shout out to Mustard,
- 1:11:57Speaker 3: thank you for your contribution. Yeah. Speaking of the Drake
- 1:12:02Speaker 3: twitching gears were staying on it. One of the disrecords
- 1:12:04Speaker 3: was the AI song with Tupac.
- 1:12:06Speaker 8: And that was a misstep.
- 1:12:08Speaker 3: Didn't like that.
- 1:12:09Speaker 8: That was a misstep for him.
- 1:12:10Speaker 7: I think I think that that's where it started, where
- 1:12:12Speaker 7: the missteps started.
- 1:12:14Speaker 3: That's where he started to get a little too.
- 1:12:15Speaker 8: That's where that's the misstep. I think that. I think.
- 1:12:20Speaker 7: I mean because the way he's rapping on family matters.
- 1:12:22Speaker 7: I think that if he just would have rapped.
- 1:12:26Speaker 3: Or if he would have just wrapped the AI song, yeah,
- 1:12:28Speaker 3: it just rap. Yeah. I think he was trying to
- 1:12:30Speaker 3: be creatives.
- 1:12:31Speaker 5: So but it brings it to a part I think
- 1:12:33Speaker 5: he in his brain he was trying to be super creative, right,
- 1:12:36Speaker 5: like what has never been done before and nobody of
- 1:12:38Speaker 5: his stature has ever really championed Ai. Timberland has a
- 1:12:42Speaker 5: song with Big but I don't people didn't really pay
- 1:12:44Speaker 5: attention to it. But like Drake, the one of the
- 1:12:47Speaker 5: biggest artists in the world right too. At the peak
- 1:12:49Speaker 5: of a battle. He kind of went out on the limp.
- 1:12:53Speaker 5: So this brings me to my question as far as AI,
- 1:12:57Speaker 5: what is your thoughts in AI? Because it's like for
- 1:12:59Speaker 5: a writer, right, mm hmm. There there's people that still
- 1:13:02Speaker 5: want to hear Whitney Houston. Yeah, man, there's people that
- 1:13:06Speaker 5: still want to hear Al Green, Michael Jackson, Michael Jackson, Prince, Right, Prince,
- 1:13:13Speaker 5: what's your thoughts on that? Because it could to me,
- 1:13:14Speaker 5: it could go it could go either way, right, because
- 1:13:16Speaker 5: it's dangerous.
- 1:13:18Speaker 7: It's dangerous, but it's also an incredible tool. M hm,
- 1:13:22Speaker 7: you know what I mean. It's dangerous though, so dangerous
- 1:13:26Speaker 7: because I mean, well we know we know about deep
- 1:13:30Speaker 7: fakes and all that, you know what I mean, and
- 1:13:33Speaker 7: something and a lot of times you could tell when
- 1:13:35Speaker 7: something it's not real. But this AI thing is getting
- 1:13:39Speaker 7: so it's getting so good, you know what I mean,
- 1:13:44Speaker 7: And it's just dangerous to me, is dangerous? Have you
- 1:13:48Speaker 7: have you used it? I've used it for to strip tracks.
- 1:13:54Speaker 7: So like there's this, uh, this is website called loud
- 1:13:57Speaker 7: loud dot Ai. So if I wanted to grab uh,
- 1:14:00Speaker 7: you know, the drums from Footsteps in the Dark and
- 1:14:04Speaker 7: just or just taste. Just take them, you know what
- 1:14:06Speaker 7: I mean, you can take them in, but instead of
- 1:14:07Speaker 7: trying to.
- 1:14:08Speaker 5: It could also so when we was with Akon, we
- 1:14:11Speaker 5: showed him Chatty she for the first time ever, and
- 1:14:14Speaker 5: we said, like, write a song, write a love song.
- 1:14:17Speaker 5: We gave it a thing I said, and do it
- 1:14:19Speaker 5: in Acon's tone, and he was reading it.
- 1:14:22Speaker 3: He was like, Yo, this is this is actually write.
- 1:14:24Speaker 5: He's a writer. So that's another thing. People aren't thinking
- 1:14:27Speaker 5: about AI rights too. So it could be like, write
- 1:14:31Speaker 5: me a Brian Michael Cox type song.
- 1:14:35Speaker 3: Do you are you from my Girl? Are you fearful
- 1:14:37Speaker 3: for that? How do you feel about that?
- 1:14:39Speaker 5: Because everybody talking about the vocal part of it, but
- 1:14:41Speaker 5: nobody's talking about the writing part of it.
- 1:14:42Speaker 3: Yeah, that's that's even harder to.
- 1:14:44Speaker 7: Control, right, way, harder control because you don't know, yeah, exactly,
- 1:14:47Speaker 7: you don't know where it's coming.
- 1:14:48Speaker 3: From, you know what I mean.
- 1:14:49Speaker 8: And then with the whole what's the what's the website?
- 1:14:52Speaker 7: It was a udio where they're making like the whole whatever,
- 1:14:58Speaker 7: where they're like making mock verse versions of era of
- 1:15:02Speaker 7: like time era songs like how how mental got?
- 1:15:06Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 1:15:06Speaker 7: Yeah, how the fifties versions of like you know, sexy red,
- 1:15:12Speaker 7: So that was crazy, so like which is and people
- 1:15:18Speaker 7: thought that a lot of people thought that she was real.
- 1:15:22Speaker 7: You think people it was like this back in the original.
- 1:15:28Speaker 3: But but it for me, it's it's definitely scary, but
- 1:15:38Speaker 3: the reality is that's where it's going.
- 1:15:41Speaker 7: So at the end of the day, you either you know,
- 1:15:45Speaker 7: try to regulate it or you know, you can't. You
- 1:15:48Speaker 7: can't fight it because at the end of the day,
- 1:15:51Speaker 7: you know, right now it's new, when it's fun or whatever.
- 1:15:53Speaker 5: You because that's what so in the Hollywood strike, that's
- 1:15:57Speaker 5: one of the things that they had in the fight
- 1:16:00Speaker 5: was that the writers wanted to ensure that AI scripts.
- 1:16:05Speaker 3: Wasn't going to be made because they was gonna lose
- 1:16:06Speaker 3: their job.
- 1:16:07Speaker 5: So there's no union for music, right, But that's something
- 1:16:12Speaker 5: that could potentially have like some fight like the musician.
- 1:16:18Speaker 3: You know, writers Association.
- 1:16:20Speaker 5: Could be like yo, y'all can't use more than twenty
- 1:16:23Speaker 5: percent of because essentially it could literally take away all
- 1:16:28Speaker 5: the musical writers.
- 1:16:29Speaker 8: They could take away everybody.
- 1:16:31Speaker 7: In fact, you could go on UDEO and type in,
- 1:16:34Speaker 7: make me a fifty sounding track of so and so
- 1:16:36Speaker 7: and so with these words whatever, whatever, and it spits
- 1:16:39Speaker 7: it out and people believe that it was real. That
- 1:16:42Speaker 7: means you go to you there and say, yo, make
- 1:16:44Speaker 7: me a mean anything, make me a country music Curtry
- 1:16:47Speaker 7: song is talking about so and so and so and so,
- 1:16:49Speaker 7: and then you could take that, take that that MP
- 1:16:54Speaker 7: three or whatever that file is, put it through another
- 1:16:58Speaker 7: AI lou loud dot AI, I separate the tracks if
- 1:17:02Speaker 7: you want, you know what I mean, and then it's
- 1:17:05Speaker 7: yours mine. You know, it's really who's to tell you that?
- 1:17:09Speaker 7: It's not who to say you didn't create that. There's
- 1:17:12Speaker 7: no better say you didn't.
- 1:17:13Speaker 4: Create It becomes a tough competition from one on the
- 1:17:15Speaker 4: soul side, It's like, yeah, I could prompt it to
- 1:17:18Speaker 4: have have me write a song based on Michael Brian
- 1:17:21Speaker 4: Cox and say, all right, I want that to be
- 1:17:24Speaker 4: towards my ex girlfriend. I want to feel like Confessions did,
- 1:17:27Speaker 4: and they can create that. But what it else can
- 1:17:29Speaker 4: do is say, all right, not only do I want
- 1:17:30Speaker 4: the song to be sound like it was written by you,
- 1:17:33Speaker 4: but I want it to be sound like it's written
- 1:17:34Speaker 4: by a dream as well. I wanted to like John,
- 1:17:37Speaker 4: like all these people, and I could put thirty of
- 1:17:40Speaker 4: them before you can make one right, so it becomes
- 1:17:42Speaker 4: even even more of a challenge.
- 1:17:44Speaker 7: No, it's it's sad, it's scary. You just you know,
- 1:17:48Speaker 7: I'm actually learning. I'm doing whatever I can to learn
- 1:17:51Speaker 7: as much about it as possible, you know what I mean.
- 1:17:55Speaker 7: You know everybody said, well, you know you can't replace
- 1:17:58Speaker 7: human soul. You know your soul, but you know, where
- 1:18:06Speaker 7: is the soul in general? You know, where's the soul
- 1:18:10Speaker 7: in general?
- 1:18:11Speaker 3: You know what I mean.
- 1:18:11Speaker 8: It's like.
- 1:18:14Speaker 7: It's it's looking like it could probably respect play, you.
- 1:18:19Speaker 4: Know, like, where's the soul? So somebody called Joe Scott. Yeah,
- 1:18:24Speaker 4: so it's.
- 1:18:27Speaker 7: I mean, I mean, it's just it's very very it's controversial.
- 1:18:31Speaker 8: It's interesting.
- 1:18:32Speaker 7: I'm trying to learn as much as I can about
- 1:18:34Speaker 7: it before I like, really really you know, dive in
- 1:18:37Speaker 7: and say you know that that I'm for it or
- 1:18:42Speaker 7: against it. I just know that it's I do know
- 1:18:45Speaker 7: it's dangerous.
- 1:18:47Speaker 5: Well before you leave any new initiatives, and you got
- 1:18:50Speaker 5: the label you're working with our guys at l v
- 1:18:53Speaker 5: r N.
- 1:18:53Speaker 3: Yes, yes, my boys, what up? What up? Yeah?
- 1:18:57Speaker 5: So yeah, what what's on the horizon that we may have?
- 1:18:59Speaker 5: No I spoke about that. You you know, definitely want
- 1:19:01Speaker 5: to get out there.
- 1:19:02Speaker 7: Well, you know, I'm still working in the capacity with
- 1:19:04Speaker 7: v r N as executive producer. So we got a
- 1:19:07Speaker 7: few things in the in the in the in the
- 1:19:09Speaker 7: pot cooking right now that I'm excited about. You're an
- 1:19:12Speaker 7: R you know, actually I'm just an execut producer now.
- 1:19:15Speaker 7: I was in our last year, but I'm just uh
- 1:19:17Speaker 7: an executive on the NR team now and then I'm
- 1:19:21Speaker 7: doing and then I have my company illustrating new ideas.
- 1:19:24Speaker 7: You're looking for talent, yes, how can how can people?
- 1:19:27Speaker 7: You catch me on my Instagram at Brian Michael Coxon.
- 1:19:30Speaker 7: They can send you music, yep, the music. My My
- 1:19:34Speaker 7: email address is b m PC dot m P three
- 1:19:38Speaker 7: at gmail dot com. Or you can send me music
- 1:19:41Speaker 7: at Brian at l v r N dot com. So yeah,
- 1:19:48Speaker 7: I'm I'm looking. I'm really really like around the clock
- 1:19:50Speaker 7: looking right now too. So you know, let's let's build
- 1:19:53Speaker 7: it up, Let's let's do something.
- 1:19:55Speaker 3: Let's do it.
- 1:19:55Speaker 8: I've been on a record saying this, so I want
- 1:19:57Speaker 8: your opinion too.
- 1:19:58Speaker 4: I think those confessions that to me is the best
- 1:20:04Speaker 4: body of work from any R and B artists, maybe
- 1:20:06Speaker 4: any artists. I put allmatic in Confessions like those are
- 1:20:09Speaker 4: my like three favorite album outside of Post Confessions. What
- 1:20:13Speaker 4: what have you listened to that you said this is
- 1:20:15Speaker 4: a classic piece of work. I said that so Os
- 1:20:19Speaker 4: is probably the best album that I've heard. I think
- 1:20:22Speaker 4: over it might be in there. What are some other
- 1:20:24Speaker 4: bodies of works from the R and B genre that
- 1:20:27Speaker 4: you had? This is a classic, this is a masterpiece,
- 1:20:33Speaker 4: definitely since his last album. You says, definitely, that's a
- 1:20:42Speaker 4: good question. Something am I listening to? Think had a classics?
- 1:20:48Speaker 4: Think it's a good album. I think it's a classic.
- 1:20:50Speaker 3: Some classic songs.
- 1:20:51Speaker 7: I think Frank Ocean's album, the first album, the first
- 1:20:54Speaker 7: one is crazy.
- 1:20:57Speaker 3: That's that's in it. That's it. That's two thousand.
- 1:21:00Speaker 8: Yeah, it's crazy.
- 1:21:03Speaker 3: It's crazy.
- 1:21:03Speaker 8: I think that. Uh oh, you know it's crazy. I was.
- 1:21:06Speaker 7: You know, I really enjoyed Washed the Throne, really enjoy Pablo. Actually,
- 1:21:16Speaker 7: I know why I like that that album specifically, don't
- 1:21:21Speaker 7: say nothing.
- 1:21:21Speaker 3: I really like that album.
- 1:21:23Speaker 7: Uh but I mean we know it's magnim Opus is
- 1:21:26Speaker 7: uh my dark twisted fantasy. Know that's his that's his piece,
- 1:21:30Speaker 7: that's his best piece of work, you know what I mean?
- 1:21:34Speaker 3: Master Pieces that we agreed on I think we didn't agree.
- 1:21:37Speaker 7: A lot of them, a lot of them of them
- 1:21:41Speaker 7: let me think, uh, it's I'm drawing a blank.
- 1:21:46Speaker 3: I liked uh.
- 1:21:49Speaker 8: Album. I felt like I'm.
- 1:21:50Speaker 3: Gonna keep it real.
- 1:21:52Speaker 8: I like Lemonade, well, yes, his Limonade.
- 1:21:56Speaker 3: Lemonade story, the story, the visual.
- 1:21:59Speaker 7: Kind of the continuity of the album. There's just some
- 1:22:02Speaker 7: really really really great songs on there.
- 1:22:07Speaker 3: That's there. We got that on the wall, yeah thing.
- 1:22:11Speaker 8: What else.
- 1:22:15Speaker 7: I was a little apprehensive about this album when they
- 1:22:18Speaker 7: when they first Droppedn't, I didn't know where it was
- 1:22:20Speaker 7: coming from. But now that I you know, listening back
- 1:22:24Speaker 7: to it, I think that people overlooked this album because
- 1:22:28Speaker 7: it just kind of came out of nowhere. But Usher's
- 1:22:30Speaker 7: and Jatoba's album A, I like, that's the last joint.
- 1:22:36Speaker 3: I got the car on the front. Yeah, it was
- 1:22:38Speaker 3: an album was Usher and atob and that that album.
- 1:22:40Speaker 8: Is a really good one.
- 1:22:42Speaker 3: There's a journey. I really like he Got, he.
- 1:22:44Speaker 7: Got, he Got, he Got, he Got some songs that
- 1:22:45Speaker 7: I really really really wish that they would have actually
- 1:22:48Speaker 7: went after you know what I mean. But He's kind
- 1:22:50Speaker 7: of just dropped it and it was kind of like what
- 1:22:52Speaker 7: they didn't really they didn't really go after it, you
- 1:22:54Speaker 7: know what I mean, But records like say what you
- 1:22:55Speaker 7: want and uh peace sign and like he got joint,
- 1:23:00Speaker 7: some of their debts go crazy. That should be that
- 1:23:03Speaker 7: should be bigger.
- 1:23:04Speaker 3: That's very stuff. Do you know what I'm saying. I'll
- 1:23:06Speaker 3: tell you I give you one last slept on Day
- 1:23:08Speaker 3: twenty six. Yeah. Yeah, So so everybody that's out of everything.
- 1:23:13Speaker 3: I think that's a classic out of.
- 1:23:15Speaker 8: Everything that I've ever worked on.
- 1:23:17Speaker 7: Right, of all the things I've worked on, that album
- 1:23:20Speaker 7: always surprised me when people say it's a classic, but
- 1:23:23Speaker 7: it really shouldn't, because, like I told somebody, yeah, I
- 1:23:25Speaker 7: was telling Sway yesterday, I was like, I really took
- 1:23:29Speaker 7: Day twenty six personal, right, I took that project personal.
- 1:23:33Speaker 7: I took that whole process personal because the five guys
- 1:23:36Speaker 7: they picked were the were my five guys that I
- 1:23:39Speaker 7: had picked. So I really like when I got into
- 1:23:43Speaker 7: the studio with them. First of all, I love working
- 1:23:46Speaker 7: with groups. I love working with male groups. I love
- 1:23:48Speaker 7: work with groups in general. So because I like placing
- 1:23:52Speaker 7: voices in different I like hearing different chambres and placing
- 1:23:56Speaker 7: them somewhere you know what I mean.
- 1:23:58Speaker 3: It's like a really really big, beautiful puzzle for me. Right.
- 1:24:01Speaker 7: So I listened to the album and I was like, oh,
- 1:24:06Speaker 7: these songs are really good, like you know, I mean,
- 1:24:08Speaker 7: you know, like when you're making it, you just kind
- 1:24:09Speaker 7: of like personal win number one album number one.
- 1:24:11Speaker 8: I was happy about it.
- 1:24:13Speaker 7: I was just upset that that bad when Atlantic didn't
- 1:24:17Speaker 7: really go as hard as I thought they should have
- 1:24:20Speaker 7: went with the promo, you know what I mean. There
- 1:24:22Speaker 7: were so many great songs on there, so many great singles.
- 1:24:25Speaker 7: I feel like they just coasted on the television show.
- 1:24:29Speaker 8: And it was like, you know, Atlantic, bad way y'all for.
- 1:24:33Speaker 7: The promo team at which y'all doing, Just do this
- 1:24:35Speaker 7: like it's a one twelve album, you know what I mean?
- 1:24:38Speaker 7: But I took I took that album personal, and I
- 1:24:42Speaker 7: listened to it recently and was like, damn, I could tell,
- 1:24:44Speaker 7: like this album.
- 1:24:45Speaker 3: Was good, really good? Did you write co Star? How
- 1:24:47Speaker 3: to do co Star?
- 1:24:48Speaker 8: And because the coastar's fire though, fire fires, you know
- 1:24:52Speaker 8: what I'm saying.
- 1:24:53Speaker 3: You've been going that?
- 1:24:54Speaker 8: Yeah, you been gone exclusive? Did I did a bunch
- 1:24:58Speaker 8: of songs.
- 1:24:58Speaker 4: On the weeks together? Don't give it a listen. Well,
- 1:25:02Speaker 4: and since you've been going on.
- 1:25:03Speaker 3: My brother, thank you for joining us.
- 1:25:05Speaker 7: And thank you guys. I'm sorry I was late man,
- 1:25:07Speaker 7: my apologies. I'm glad we got a chance to talk.
- 1:25:09Speaker 5: So I have the R and B pop up activation
- 1:25:12Speaker 5: I invest Fest. Yeah, that's going you know what you
- 1:25:15Speaker 5: know that invests this. Yeah, yeah, we should do.
- 1:25:17Speaker 8: So, let's do that.
- 1:25:19Speaker 7: Yeah. I think I came to one. I came to
- 1:25:21Speaker 7: invest last year, Jamaine.
- 1:25:24Speaker 3: Last year. Yeah.
- 1:25:25Speaker 8: Yeah, yeah, No, let's do that.
- 1:25:29Speaker 3: That's easy question, Let's do That's not even question.
- 1:25:32Speaker 8: Let's let's make that happen.
