- 0:00Speaker 1: This is the Ben and Ashley I Almost Famous podcast
- 0:03Speaker 1: with iHeartRadio.
- 0:05Speaker 2: Hey everyone, welcome to the Almost of his podcast finale. Addition,
- 0:11Speaker 2: I wish Ben were here. He has his off week
- 0:15Speaker 2: and it's his anniversary today. I cannot believe he and
- 0:18Speaker 2: Jess were married for four years. Time of freaking flies.
- 0:21Speaker 2: It feels like two years. It's so nuts. But they
- 0:25Speaker 2: have posted the cutest things of each other today, so
- 0:27Speaker 2: check that out and again just sending them the happiest
- 0:31Speaker 2: of anniversary wishes. I am joined again by our wonderful
- 0:36Speaker 2: podcast producer. I love having Heather on because she does
- 0:40Speaker 2: have so many juicy takes. You don't hold back. Love
- 0:43Speaker 2: that and I love that especially for a day like
- 0:46Speaker 2: today because I watched this finale and like my botox
- 0:51Speaker 2: was botoxing because I try to take a picture of
- 0:54Speaker 2: myself and like the confused judgy face that I had
- 1:00Speaker 2: on the expression the entire episode. It was like my
- 1:05Speaker 2: brow was for Road, Yeah, for Road the entire time.
- 1:11Speaker 2: Because this episode, I honestly have to say, really proved
- 1:17Speaker 2: to me that Mel is the worst lead this franchise
- 1:22Speaker 2: has ever chosen. They this was a massive mistake, and
- 1:26Speaker 2: I think my biggest takeaway from this as far as
- 1:29Speaker 2: just like my feelings go, is that it's unfortunate that
- 1:35Speaker 2: he was this golden There's so many reasons why he
- 1:38Speaker 2: was unfortunately this Golden Bachelor, but the one that makes
- 1:42Speaker 2: me the most sad I worry that there will never
- 1:44Speaker 2: be a Golden series after this. And his runner up,
- 1:50Speaker 2: whatever the heck you want to call her, Cindy, was
- 1:53Speaker 2: made to be a lead as the Golden Bachelor.
- 1:57Speaker 3: Att I think you took the words right out of
- 2:00Speaker 3: my mouth.
- 2:01Speaker 2: Oh my gosh good.
- 2:02Speaker 3: I sent a text message as soon as I was
- 2:04Speaker 3: done watching it, going worst finale in Bachelor history. I
- 2:08Speaker 3: think so.
- 2:09Speaker 2: I mean it was, I think so. It was.
- 2:12Speaker 3: It was devoid of everything that we know and love
- 2:17Speaker 3: from this franchise. Take take everything that we know the
- 2:20Speaker 3: Bachelor to be. Dramatic, emotional twists gone from this. I mean,
- 2:26Speaker 3: there was just none of that, and I and I
- 2:29Speaker 3: just left feeling huh. I was like huh at the
- 2:33Speaker 3: end of this, yeah, two hour finale? Also, why did
- 2:37Speaker 3: we need to make it two hours? Like we've blazed
- 2:41Speaker 3: through his entire season thus far, we could have really
- 2:44Speaker 3: blazed through this finale too. They tried to really milk
- 2:48Speaker 3: something when there was no milk.
- 2:51Speaker 2: There was no milk. Yeah. As far as finales go,
- 2:56Speaker 2: have there been like crappier finales in the sense that
- 2:59Speaker 2: the couples don't end up together. Of course, Yeah, but
- 3:03Speaker 2: at least there's so much emotion involved because there was
- 3:09Speaker 2: probably so much love or lust involved too. The fact
- 3:12Speaker 2: about this finale is there was no feeling. We actually
- 3:16Speaker 2: had two people who end up ended up together who
- 3:19Speaker 2: basically didn't say I love you. This is the first
- 3:22Speaker 2: time I think in Bachelor history that they didn't say
- 3:28Speaker 2: I love I guess it was Wuan Pablo because Wan
- 3:31Speaker 2: Pablo didn't say I love you to Nikki. He said
- 3:34Speaker 2: I like you a lot. That was very famous. But
- 3:39Speaker 2: there was still way more passion in that season than
- 3:43Speaker 2: this season. This was devout, devoid of all emotion. I'm
- 3:52Speaker 2: actually kind of I mean, I'm certainly glad he ended
- 3:55Speaker 2: up with Peg, who they both admit are not mushy
- 3:58Speaker 2: people and they don't fall fast, and they obviously didn't
- 4:03Speaker 2: prioritize marriage at all. It makes sense that they ended
- 4:08Speaker 2: up together very happy. I'm very very happy that Cindy
- 4:13Speaker 2: eliminated herself. That girl woman rocked it. Throughout this. Throughout
- 4:20Speaker 2: the first half of the episode, I kept saying, this
- 4:22Speaker 2: guy's a fucking dick. I can't believe this dick. Fucking dick.
- 4:25Speaker 2: I couldn't believe what I was seeing. He She was like,
- 4:29Speaker 2: how how do you feel about us? And he'd be like,
- 4:32Speaker 2: it's a process, Like, sir, that is not the answer
- 4:35Speaker 2: to the question.
- 4:38Speaker 3: There could have been other ways he could have gone
- 4:41Speaker 3: about that, navigating that conversation right. It could have been
- 4:47Speaker 3: I have really strong feelings for you, but there is
- 4:50Speaker 3: somebody else involved yet, So I'm not going to make promises,
- 4:55Speaker 3: but I do want to take this to the next
- 4:57Speaker 3: level or I want you, I want to reassure you,
- 5:00Speaker 3: you would let you know that my feelings are genuine
- 5:02Speaker 3: or I feel deeply. There wasn't a whole lot of
- 5:06Speaker 3: him justifying to her, but I will say this, that
- 5:12Speaker 3: to me means he wasn't into her. Like the fact
- 5:14Speaker 3: that he wasn't willing to do that. I think she
- 5:17Speaker 3: got the message loud and clear, she's not the one.
- 5:20Speaker 3: And as much as he felt like kind of sad
- 5:24Speaker 3: seeing her go or whatever, I think that for him
- 5:29Speaker 3: he also expressed right that kind of saying goodbye to
- 5:32Speaker 3: people was a little bit. I think he said at
- 5:34Speaker 3: some point in this journey that that was hard for him,
- 5:37Speaker 3: and I think her self eliminating was probably easier for
- 5:42Speaker 3: him because I don't think he wanted to hurt her.
- 5:45Speaker 2: Yeah. Well, one of the most lame o things that
- 5:48Speaker 2: happened was that he he was like annoyed by the
- 5:54Speaker 2: fact that she left. He said, you have to finish
- 5:59Speaker 2: the game, basic, and I was like, sir, this is
- 6:02Speaker 2: not a sports game. This is a game of love.
- 6:05Speaker 2: And I'm really glad that Jesse spoke up and said, well,
- 6:10Speaker 2: there comes a point where you do need validation.
- 6:14Speaker 3: Exactly exactly, and and she said back, like before he uh,
- 6:20Speaker 3: you know, talked about that when she was on stage
- 6:22Speaker 3: with Jesse. She had said she doesn't need to convince
- 6:26Speaker 3: a man to love her. And the audience who show
- 6:29Speaker 3: hollered for that because that was like such a great moment, right.
- 6:34Speaker 3: It kind of goes back to what she had said
- 6:36Speaker 3: previously on the show that I think both resonated for
- 6:39Speaker 3: you and I when she said, if you're not going
- 6:43Speaker 3: to choose me, I know somebody else will. And she
- 6:46Speaker 3: straight up said that to him, so like the girl
- 6:49Speaker 3: knows I think she knows she's a bombshell. She knows
- 6:53Speaker 3: she's really cool, and she's just like, if you're not
- 6:56Speaker 3: into it, she's probably not a million guys like in
- 6:58Speaker 3: her DMS or on her dating apps or whatever back
- 7:01Speaker 3: in Texas, Like she knows it.
- 7:05Speaker 2: I'm just she was like a girl to me where
- 7:08Speaker 2: I'm like, this is I mean talk about stereotypes, I know,
- 7:13Speaker 2: but like I want her to have like a Texas
- 7:15Speaker 2: man and she was dating like a playboy from southern California.
- 7:21Speaker 3: Watching her during after the final rowse with Jesse, I said,
- 7:26Speaker 3: in my mind when she was talking about like my
- 7:29Speaker 3: man is still out there, Cindy is the kind of
- 7:32Speaker 3: woman we are going to see hard launch a guy in.
- 7:37Speaker 3: I'll say by New Year's Eve, I hope. So I'm
- 7:40Speaker 3: going to say by New Year's Eve, Cindy is going
- 7:43Speaker 3: to be ringing in the New Year with a hot
- 7:45Speaker 3: guy toasting champagne. She is that gorgeous and she is
- 7:49Speaker 3: that confident in herself that she has put out there
- 7:52Speaker 3: to the universe what she wants and deserves, and that
- 7:55Speaker 3: is going to come back tenfold to her. I guarantee it.
- 7:58Speaker 3: She is going to find a man like that.
- 8:00Speaker 2: She will have all the options in the world. She
- 8:03Speaker 2: will be living in real life, the Golden Bachelorette life. Yes,
- 8:07Speaker 2: but I also wish that we would at some point
- 8:10Speaker 2: be able to see her be the Golden Bachelorette. I
- 8:12Speaker 2: just don't think it's really in the cards. I just
- 8:15Speaker 2: I think this was such a bomb of a season
- 8:17Speaker 2: that I don't see it coming back anytime soon. Oh,
- 8:20Speaker 2: but she would have been incredible, lead incredible. I agree.
- 8:24Speaker 3: Can I just off topic but on top for a second,
- 8:28Speaker 3: because I feel like you are the person to talk
- 8:30Speaker 3: to you about this. Her look for after the final rows, Oh,
- 8:34Speaker 3: I was like, I was like clapping, I was like stunning.
- 8:38Speaker 2: Yes, yes she not.
- 8:41Speaker 3: With her red hair and the way that dress looked.
- 8:44Speaker 3: Does she not remind you of when Little Mermaid Ariel
- 8:48Speaker 3: comes out of the water at the finale at the
- 8:51Speaker 3: end with.
- 8:52Speaker 2: Her legs the silver drug.
- 8:54Speaker 3: That was That was all I was thinking. When she
- 8:56Speaker 3: walked out, I.
- 8:57Speaker 2: Was like, Oh, that's amazing.
- 8:59Speaker 3: No life, Ariel. No, she looked. They both looked fantastic. Oh,
- 9:04Speaker 3: Peg looked absolutely beautiful. Her hair looks so good like that,
- 9:07Speaker 3: she looks so good, And you know, I'm really happy
- 9:12Speaker 3: that they're enjoying their time together. I don't want to
- 9:14Speaker 3: be little that at all, because Peg is super cool.
- 9:17Speaker 3: I think she could do uh, she could get a
- 9:20Speaker 3: much cooler dude.
- 9:21Speaker 2: But it's all good. If they want to be dating,
- 9:24Speaker 2: that's that's great. She definitely deserves the best. I have questions. Okay, wait,
- 9:32Speaker 2: that was so mean. I don't mean that. I just
- 9:35Speaker 2: mean that these are two really kick ass women.
- 9:38Speaker 3: They are, and they're kick ass in different ways, right.
- 9:40Speaker 2: And he's just kind of like a snooze. Okay, he's
- 9:43Speaker 2: just a snooze.
- 9:45Speaker 3: I agree. You know what, though maybe I'm maybe I'm
- 9:50Speaker 3: in the minority on this. I think that they're gonna
- 9:55Speaker 3: I can see them being together for like a long time.
- 9:58Speaker 3: Like I could also see them be like a Goldie
- 10:01Speaker 3: Hawn Kurt Russell couple, which that doesn't get married. You know.
- 10:05Speaker 3: I kind of really liked the vibes between them, and
- 10:09Speaker 3: I think that Peg hasn't been super forthright with what
- 10:15Speaker 3: happened in her marriage. But we do know that she
- 10:17Speaker 3: was cheated on, and we know that during their fantasy
- 10:20Speaker 3: suite date they made a real connection in terms of
- 10:23Speaker 3: their stories, something that really bonded them. Now I'm not
- 10:28Speaker 3: going to read too much between the lines on what
- 10:30Speaker 3: that could mean, but I think that what I will
- 10:34Speaker 3: say is that divorce burned both of them really bad,
- 10:38Speaker 3: is what it seems like. And so if that is
- 10:41Speaker 3: something that brings them together and makes them believe in
- 10:44Speaker 3: love again, I think that that's incredible. But I think
- 10:48Speaker 3: I get the vibe from both of them that marriage
- 10:52Speaker 3: is not in the cards because of what happened in
- 10:55Speaker 3: their divorce. And I don't want to hold that against people,
- 10:58Speaker 3: because divoritely really really hard and you shouldn't. But I
- 11:02Speaker 3: also I'm like, looking back, Ashley, do you he never said.
- 11:07Speaker 3: I don't think he ever said my wife is in
- 11:10Speaker 3: this room.
- 11:10Speaker 2: She said that he did, but I'm not sure I did.
- 11:15Speaker 2: Cindy said that she that he did at some point.
- 11:18Speaker 2: He may have, he may not have. It's just another reason,
- 11:22Speaker 2: like I with Gary season and even Jones season, because
- 11:26Speaker 2: this is not like somebody that they're looking to have
- 11:28Speaker 2: kids with. I am totally down with like them not
- 11:32Speaker 2: having to prioritize marriage on this like sect of the franchise.
- 11:36Speaker 2: I kept saying to like about Gary and Teresa, like
- 11:39Speaker 2: why did they rush into marriage? Didn't have to really
- 11:41Speaker 2: get married. But like in Cindy's case, she wanted to
- 11:46Speaker 2: get married and that was her expectation going into the show.
- 11:48Speaker 2: And I believe that is a totally legit expectation to
- 11:52Speaker 2: have going into this show. And this is just another
- 11:55Speaker 2: reason why it was, like, why do they pick this man?
- 11:58Speaker 2: Not only does he not have a person that jumps
- 12:00Speaker 2: off the screen, not only did he mess up on
- 12:04Speaker 2: that podcast saying that he didn't want to date women
- 12:06Speaker 2: in their sixties, but then in addition to that, he
- 12:09Speaker 2: has no desire to really or he seemingly has it
- 12:13Speaker 2: not much of a desire to get married to it again.
- 12:15Speaker 2: And if he does, he's going to take years and
- 12:17Speaker 2: years to pull the trigger on that. I want to
- 12:21Speaker 2: go back just because you were thinking about you were
- 12:23Speaker 2: talking about fantasy suites. It was just a very strange
- 12:28Speaker 2: portion of I guess like it was the kind of
- 12:30Speaker 2: like the after show when he kept telling Cindy, you
- 12:35Speaker 2: didn't stay around for the for the overnight, and like
- 12:41Speaker 2: that would have been part of the process, you Like,
- 12:45Speaker 2: he made it seem like the overnight was going to
- 12:49Speaker 2: actually get him in one day to go from saying
- 12:53Speaker 2: I like you, I I can't really say how I
- 12:58Speaker 2: feel this is going to having an overnight and then
- 13:02Speaker 2: getting engaged like truly the next day, I was like, dude,
- 13:06Speaker 2: do not make it seem like it's that it is
- 13:07Speaker 2: a big deal. I totally get that the Fantasy Suite
- 13:10Speaker 2: does change things, but it doesn't change things that much,
- 13:13Speaker 2: so stop blaming it on something other than yourself.
- 13:17Speaker 3: So how I interpreted that was that it wasn't more
- 13:20Speaker 3: about getting him there. I think that he was saying, like,
- 13:25Speaker 3: you didn't go to the overnights, so you didn't actually
- 13:28Speaker 3: get to have a conversation with me off camera where
- 13:31Speaker 3: I could say, I don't intend to get to get
- 13:35Speaker 3: down on one knee. This is what I want, you
- 13:37Speaker 3: know what I mean? Like, I think it was more
- 13:39Speaker 3: about not about like him and being able to get
- 13:44Speaker 3: there with Cindy more as like Cindy being able to
- 13:47Speaker 3: understand him. That's how I interpreted it, because he was
- 13:52Speaker 3: like after his overnight with Peg, he was like, we
- 13:57Speaker 3: were able to talk so much, we are on the
- 13:59Speaker 3: same page age blah blah blah. And I think he
- 14:04Speaker 3: was very careful about his words on camera through this
- 14:08Speaker 3: whole process, and he was very acutely aware, right and
- 14:13Speaker 3: I think more so after the podcast comments that roasted him. Right,
- 14:19Speaker 3: So if he's at a dinner with her and he
- 14:22Speaker 3: is saying, I'm not going to get down on one knee,
- 14:25Speaker 3: I can't say I'm going to propose to you. I mean,
- 14:27Speaker 3: he just knows he's going to get roasted for that.
- 14:30Speaker 3: So I think it was more like, you didn't come
- 14:32Speaker 3: to the fantasy suites and let me really talk to
- 14:36Speaker 3: you about where I'm at and what I'm doing and
- 14:39Speaker 3: reassure you like this is what I want? Is this
- 14:42Speaker 3: what you want? No, we're not on the same page. Okay,
- 14:44Speaker 3: it's not going to be you. That's kind of how
- 14:47Speaker 3: I took it when he was talking about that.
- 14:51Speaker 2: But again, that's just another reason why he shouldn't have
- 14:54Speaker 2: been the Bachelor. If you can't talk about all your
- 14:56Speaker 2: stuff on camera. There are certain things that you talk
- 14:59Speaker 2: about in a fantasy as I pointing to Jared behind me,
- 15:02Speaker 2: you talk about past relationships way more in the closed
- 15:06Speaker 2: door of a fantasy SUITEP because you don't want those
- 15:10Speaker 2: other people involved that didn't sign up for the show
- 15:13Speaker 2: to have their stories on the show. A lot of
- 15:15Speaker 2: the times you don't want to do that. It's a
- 15:17Speaker 2: respect thing, but he but you should still be able
- 15:22Speaker 2: to say stuff like I don't know if I want to,
- 15:25Speaker 2: I don't think I should get married, or you can
- 15:27Speaker 2: talk about your reservations on camera. He obviously was taught
- 15:30Speaker 2: he was saving all conversations for the fantasy suitep.
- 15:34Speaker 3: Ben has expressed I think in past recaps that we've done,
- 15:37Speaker 3: and I agree with that, give them something, Mel you
- 15:41Speaker 3: need to say, you know what. I'm not ready to
- 15:44Speaker 3: make an answer on that. And here's why my we
- 15:47Speaker 3: never heard my divorce was really difficult, you know, or uh,
- 15:52Speaker 3: you know, losing that marriage has really shattered my confidence
- 15:58Speaker 3: or whatever it is. Instead of giving direct answers, he
- 16:03Speaker 3: could have talked about where he was mentally emotionally, and
- 16:07Speaker 3: he opted not to do that. And maybe he did
- 16:10Speaker 3: that with Peg. Peg swore in her Fantasy Suite that
- 16:14Speaker 3: his walls came down and she got to see the
- 16:16Speaker 3: other side of him, and I think, yeah, that's what
- 16:20Speaker 3: he was kind of. I think that's what he was
- 16:22Speaker 3: alluding to. Cindy by saying you didn't come to fantasy suites,
- 16:25Speaker 3: was like, you didn't actually get to see another side
- 16:29Speaker 3: of me because you opted to leave, and that was
- 16:32Speaker 3: your choice. But again, I think his mind was already
- 16:36Speaker 3: made up. I think he already knew it was going
- 16:38Speaker 3: to be PEG, So there shouldn't have been any sort
- 16:40Speaker 3: of sense of shame to Cindy leaving because I think
- 16:44Speaker 3: it was always going to be PEG.
- 16:46Speaker 2: Absolutely, I agree.
- 16:56Speaker 4: If you can't remember the ladst time you made out
- 17:00Speaker 4: with somebody, it's time for you to listen to I
- 17:02Speaker 4: Do Part two. Listen to I Do Part two on
- 17:05Speaker 4: the iHeartRadio app, Apple podcast or wherever you get your podcasts.
- 17:13Speaker 2: And now let's talk about but the fact that he
- 17:16Speaker 2: made it seem as if Cindy made any wrong moves there,
- 17:23Speaker 2: but it was really I just think it was again
- 17:25Speaker 2: again like kind of an ego bruise, and I don't
- 17:31Speaker 2: think he likes ego bruises. I also just want to
- 17:34Speaker 2: say thank you to Jesse for saying that she's a
- 17:39Speaker 2: class act and like she couldn't imagine anybody class here,
- 17:42Speaker 2: because it's just exactly how I felt as well. Yeah,
- 17:46Speaker 2: all right, so now I do feel the chemistry between
- 17:49Speaker 2: the family and Peg. She definitely she's a girl mom, right,
- 17:54Speaker 2: but she definitely has boy mom energy. She's gonna, I
- 17:57Speaker 2: feel like, get along with any sort of teenage early
- 18:01Speaker 2: twenty some ven year old sons. She was perfect in
- 18:05Speaker 2: that moment.
- 18:06Speaker 3: Yeah, and the boys for having never met somebody that
- 18:11Speaker 3: he's dated, right, And I mean it doesn't mean that
- 18:14Speaker 3: he hasn't dated since his divorce. I think he has.
- 18:18Speaker 3: But that was kind of a big moment, and those
- 18:21Speaker 3: young men were extremely warm and they seemed to just
- 18:26Speaker 3: totally hit it off with her like right away, which
- 18:28Speaker 3: I thought was nice.
- 18:30Speaker 2: Yep, I guess I'm also just sitting here. I'm still
- 18:33Speaker 2: like hung up on the fact that, like he just
- 18:37Speaker 2: to me was just so cold and awkward to Cindy,
- 18:41Speaker 2: I bring you it back, I bring you back. I'm
- 18:43Speaker 2: just reminiscing about their time at that table and how
- 18:47Speaker 2: he gave her nothing and it just was so good
- 18:51Speaker 2: of her to leave.
- 18:52Speaker 3: I wrote in the notes here that like their conversation
- 18:56Speaker 3: after the final rose was also uncomfortable, just like absolutely,
- 19:01Speaker 3: it was like he wasn't saying like things like like
- 19:04Speaker 3: hold like we see on most after the final roses,
- 19:08Speaker 3: where maybe the bachelor and his runner up are crying
- 19:11Speaker 3: or holding hands or they're expressing.
- 19:14Speaker 2: There's more some sort of feeling and passion.
- 19:16Speaker 3: They're expressing like it that this was a very difficult
- 19:20Speaker 3: decision for them to make and that they wish them
- 19:22Speaker 3: all the best, Like there wasn't any of that. And
- 19:25Speaker 3: there was one moment that I wrote down that was
- 19:29Speaker 3: really awkward. Uh. She says she told mel she was
- 19:33Speaker 3: willing to move for him and start a life, and
- 19:36Speaker 3: he says he cuts her off in that moment, and
- 19:38Speaker 3: he says that doesn't interest me though, and Cindy looks
- 19:42Speaker 3: kind of stunned, and then the audience does a weird
- 19:47Speaker 3: collap and it was like, what, like, why did that?
- 19:51Speaker 3: Why did they keep that moment in? I was like,
- 19:54Speaker 3: this was so strange. It makes neither it was it
- 19:57Speaker 3: was I just wrote uncomfortable.
- 20:00Speaker 2: Yes, and then she.
- 20:02Speaker 3: Just says she wants him to be happy. And then
- 20:04Speaker 3: she says her heart is wide open for love, you know.
- 20:07Speaker 3: And that's why I think, mark my words, by New
- 20:11Speaker 3: Year's Eve, Cindy will have a man, because she is
- 20:15Speaker 3: what this social experiment, this show is all about. It
- 20:19Speaker 3: is about being open to falling in love. It is
- 20:21Speaker 3: about taking weird leaps of faith that he clearly said
- 20:25Speaker 3: over and over again he is not interested.
- 20:28Speaker 2: He hated leaps of faith.
- 20:30Speaker 3: We get it.
- 20:30Speaker 2: Man, we get it. This guy is like the anti romantic.
- 20:36Speaker 3: Anti and he's very compartmentalized.
- 20:40Speaker 2: They kept talking about how analytical he was.
- 20:42Speaker 3: Yeah, and the thing is is that he's been that
- 20:45Speaker 3: way his whole life. He didn't get to be the
- 20:48Speaker 3: Golden Bachelor and then became this way. He's been this
- 20:51Speaker 3: way his entire life, and so everybody is different. I
- 20:56Speaker 3: feel like I have to stand up for the casting
- 20:58Speaker 3: team for this for a second.
- 21:00Speaker 2: Okay, you guys just letting everybody know that Heather is
- 21:02Speaker 2: in casting like that's her specialty.
- 21:05Speaker 3: And I just have to say, I don't know anybody
- 21:08Speaker 3: specifically that worked on this season of The Golden Bachelor,
- 21:12Speaker 3: but in my opinion, as somebody who has done many
- 21:16Speaker 3: of these shows, I'm going to go out on a
- 21:18Speaker 3: limb and say that Mel was not found by a
- 21:20Speaker 3: member of the casting team. A couple of reasons why
- 21:24Speaker 3: he doesn't seem like anybody who would ever respond to
- 21:28Speaker 3: a message or ever obviously respond to a open casting call.
- 21:33Speaker 3: That's one thing I aloud believe that he is. And
- 21:37Speaker 3: this is why I also think he's so bad as
- 21:41Speaker 3: a lead, because a casting person would have kind of
- 21:44Speaker 3: sussed some of this stuff out early on. And so
- 21:47Speaker 3: my gut feeling is that he came from exec at ABC,
- 21:53Speaker 3: exec at Hulu Connections. And I've worked on shows where
- 21:56Speaker 3: this has happened, where somebody up top up a suit,
- 22:01Speaker 3: somebody who doesn't you know, work with the talent on
- 22:04Speaker 3: a day to day basis, says I know somebody who'd
- 22:08Speaker 3: be great for this. They're super hot, whether it's a
- 22:10Speaker 3: personal friend or a friend of a friend, and that
- 22:13Speaker 3: person then gets put into the mix and you have
- 22:16Speaker 3: to as a member of the casting team kind of
- 22:20Speaker 3: guide that along. Now I'm not saying that that's how
- 22:22Speaker 3: they get selected, because not to get too into the weeds,
- 22:26Speaker 3: but there's like a million things that leads have to
- 22:28Speaker 3: go through to get selected. It is not up to
- 22:31Speaker 3: one person. There's a lot of people that make and
- 22:34Speaker 3: sign off on that decision. But to me, that is
- 22:38Speaker 3: a To me, this is where I see issues sometimes
- 22:42Speaker 3: with shows where people that don't know talent and don't
- 22:45Speaker 3: work with talent can sometimes put a lot of emphasis
- 22:50Speaker 3: and ideas of what somebody can be versus what they are,
- 22:54Speaker 3: And like, as people in the casting world, we kind
- 22:57Speaker 3: of can suss that stuff out just because we do
- 22:59Speaker 3: it on a day to day basis, whereas a suit
- 23:02Speaker 3: executive who maybe knows this cool guy that used to
- 23:04Speaker 3: be in football doesn't know that. And I really think
- 23:08Speaker 3: that the network did him a disservice in a lot
- 23:12Speaker 3: of ways. I'm not condoning any of those comments he
- 23:16Speaker 3: made on the podcast, but I'm going to say that
- 23:19Speaker 3: there are a million in one ways they could have
- 23:21Speaker 3: gotten in front of that prior to filming to course correct,
- 23:26Speaker 3: and they opted not to do that and to wait
- 23:28Speaker 3: until Limo entrance night to try and do that. And
- 23:32Speaker 3: I really think that that also just started things off
- 23:34Speaker 3: on the wrong foot because I think it gave Mel
- 23:38Speaker 3: too much time to be in his head about what
- 23:40Speaker 3: he was saying and what he was not allowed to say.
- 23:43Speaker 2: That's so true, and I think that.
- 23:46Speaker 3: That stayed for the whole process.
- 24:00Speaker 2: The interview, which is probably like the only like long term,
- 24:03Speaker 2: like long form speech he had before being the Bachelor,
- 24:09Speaker 2: was received so poorly that he just shut down any
- 24:15Speaker 2: any sort of thoughts. So like, that's probably why he
- 24:19Speaker 2: would That was probably an element to why he was
- 24:21Speaker 2: so boring because he was scared to talk. Because when
- 24:23Speaker 2: he did talk, that was the reaction you got.
- 24:26Speaker 3: One hundred percent, and Ashley, you might be able to
- 24:29Speaker 3: speak to this more as somebody who's actually been on
- 24:31Speaker 3: the other side, because I can't speak to what kind
- 24:34Speaker 3: of media training contestants have to go through, but I
- 24:37Speaker 3: do know that the leads have to go through something.
- 24:41Speaker 3: But you know, I just really think that clearly Mel
- 24:46Speaker 3: hadn't gone through any sort of media training prior to
- 24:48Speaker 3: that podcast. And I don't know if they then grilled him,
- 24:53Speaker 3: went down on him, whatever they did, but I really
- 24:56Speaker 3: think that they were like, you do not speak until
- 25:00Speaker 3: till cameras are up rolling, and we are going to
- 25:02Speaker 3: help you to kind of say this. They could have,
- 25:06Speaker 3: like I said, a million in one ways, they could
- 25:08Speaker 3: have course corrected prior to filming, and they opted not
- 25:11Speaker 3: to do that, and I think that it started him
- 25:14Speaker 3: off on a bad foot as well.
- 25:16Speaker 2: That's good, and we do give him credit in saying
- 25:18Speaker 2: that because maybe he would have been better than we
- 25:22Speaker 2: than he was. I mean, it's pretty impossible to I
- 25:25Speaker 2: want to.
- 25:25Speaker 3: Hope that they saw something because for how to pull
- 25:29Speaker 3: back the curtain a little bit, the leads have to
- 25:31Speaker 3: meet with executives and the network a lot before a
- 25:37Speaker 3: lot and so we're talking multiple meetings. We're talking about
- 25:42Speaker 3: background checks, psycho evaluations, medical testing, going to upfronts or
- 25:48Speaker 3: you know, Hulu events or like, there's a lot of
- 25:50Speaker 3: like mixing and mingling and talking that the leads have
- 25:54Speaker 3: to do to in a sense, prove themselves that they
- 25:56Speaker 3: are right for this kind of a role and to
- 25:58Speaker 3: take this on. And so I want to believe that
- 26:01Speaker 3: the people in the room really did see something in
- 26:04Speaker 3: him and that's why they gave him this opportunity. I
- 26:07Speaker 3: don't want to think he was just this way in
- 26:09Speaker 3: the room and people were like, yeah, yeah, this guy,
- 26:13Speaker 3: because I just don't. I just I want to give
- 26:16Speaker 3: the Hulu execs and the ABC execs a little bit
- 26:18Speaker 3: more credit than that they that they wouldn't.
- 26:21Speaker 2: I agree, Blacks. I agree. It was weird that you
- 26:24Speaker 2: say this because I did post something on Instant Story
- 26:27Speaker 2: before getting on the podcast. I said, you know, this
- 26:32Speaker 2: man was not born to be the Bachelor, and I
- 26:35Speaker 2: initially had wrote something more a little harsher, and I
- 26:40Speaker 2: had said he was like the worst casting choice, and
- 26:44Speaker 2: I erased that because I was like, this just doesn't
- 26:48Speaker 2: feel right to blame casting on. They have never fed
- 26:51Speaker 2: up like this before. The lead has been a weird
- 26:54Speaker 2: There's been weird choices for lead before for sure, for sure,
- 26:58Speaker 2: but those people, for the most part who have been
- 27:02Speaker 2: cast as weird leads, they were still good cast members
- 27:07Speaker 2: when they were on the main show. Like you would
- 27:09Speaker 2: understand why all of the people that became leads, even
- 27:12Speaker 2: while questionable, you'd understand why they would be cast for
- 27:16Speaker 2: the other show where they are part of, like the
- 27:18Speaker 2: Seid ensemble.
- 27:19Speaker 3: Yeah, and we can see there's been a changing of
- 27:21Speaker 3: the guard, right. So proof to what I'm saying is
- 27:25Speaker 3: just look at the fact that Taylor Frankie Paul is
- 27:28Speaker 3: the Bachelorette for the next season. That did not come
- 27:30Speaker 3: from the casting department. That is inner Hulu, ABC executives
- 27:34Speaker 3: making a deal. So we have executives or somebody is
- 27:39Speaker 3: in place now that is taking a stronger hold on
- 27:44Speaker 3: the casting of the lead. And this is not what
- 27:48Speaker 3: past seasons have been like. And so that's why I
- 27:50Speaker 3: want to say that mel probably came from an internal
- 27:53Speaker 3: connection and was not found organically for this experience.
- 27:58Speaker 2: Totally great point, Heather Things, thanks for being here to
- 28:01Speaker 2: have that insight. Appreciate so much. Let's talk about the
- 28:05Speaker 2: proposal non proposal which was again a very weird moment.
- 28:10Speaker 2: It was like are we giving promise rings as sixty
- 28:14Speaker 2: year olds?
- 28:14Speaker 3: And I say, is this that's what it? Worst finale
- 28:18Speaker 3: in history where Neil Lane wasn't at the location to
- 28:22Speaker 3: come out.
- 28:22Speaker 2: No, it's not the last season. I believe that with Grant,
- 28:27Speaker 2: Neil Lane didn't come out. Oh no it was or
- 28:31Speaker 2: it was Paradise. He didn't come out Paradise.
- 28:35Speaker 3: He did not come out.
- 28:36Speaker 2: I do know that. My thought was that I guess
- 28:39Speaker 2: that Neil really wanted or the Bachelor has some sort
- 28:42Speaker 2: of relationship with Neil in which like he really had
- 28:45Speaker 2: to give a ring.
- 28:47Speaker 3: I mean, we saw him in the audience at the
- 28:50Speaker 3: after the final Rose. They did a little pan.
- 28:52Speaker 2: To him because that was really awkward. Yeah, gave a
- 28:56Speaker 2: ring to a woman and said, this is a commitment
- 28:59Speaker 2: to this is a commitment to see how things go.
- 29:02Speaker 2: This is a commitment to date.
- 29:04Speaker 3: Yeah exactly, and then.
- 29:07Speaker 2: He goes just the fact that he was handing a
- 29:10Speaker 2: woman a ring without getting down on one knee. It
- 29:13Speaker 2: was so bizarre. And then even in the after the
- 29:18Speaker 2: final Rose portion, Jesse was like, any thoughts about getting engaged?
- 29:26Speaker 2: And then what did they say? They were like, you know,
- 29:33Speaker 2: maybe down the road.
- 29:35Speaker 3: Yeah, okay, First of all, he's gonna hate me that.
- 29:38Speaker 3: I actually don't remember this verbatim. But didn't Bob Guinea
- 29:43Speaker 3: not propose on his season and also gave like a
- 29:47Speaker 3: promise ring.
- 29:47Speaker 2: Oh did hear? You'll have to ask.
- 29:49Speaker 3: He's gonna be so mad if he listens to this.
- 29:51Speaker 3: And it's like, Heather, how do you not know this?
- 29:52Speaker 3: We've talked about it, but I'm pretty sure that he
- 29:56Speaker 3: was one of the first bachelors to not propose.
- 29:59Speaker 2: It wasn't that's big of a thing back then. And again,
- 30:02Speaker 2: like I don't even have an issue with them not proposing.
- 30:04Speaker 2: I really don't, because like I just yeah, I'd rather
- 30:09Speaker 2: see like a healthy relationship than having to see a
- 30:12Speaker 2: force proposal. But it was like the weird in between
- 30:17Speaker 2: where it was like, I'm going to give you a ring,
- 30:19Speaker 2: but this is not a proposal. That's what was strange.
- 30:21Speaker 3: Oh what if it's contractually that anneal Lane ring has
- 30:25Speaker 3: to be given?
- 30:26Speaker 2: That's what I mean. That must have been what happened.
- 30:29Speaker 3: Why can't it be something else? Kneel Lane? Why couldn't
- 30:32Speaker 3: he give her a necklace?
- 30:34Speaker 2: Necklace? Yes, that would have been nice. That's so like
- 30:39Speaker 2: Neil has gorgeous necklaces. I would I've gone into his
- 30:42Speaker 2: studio in you know, Beverly Hills, or it's like we's
- 30:45Speaker 2: Hollywood have docid it's so beautiful the necklaces. Will you're
- 30:49Speaker 2: looking at more than anything else.
- 30:51Speaker 3: Seriously, they that's what they should have done. It should
- 30:54Speaker 3: have been like, I want to commit to you to
- 30:57Speaker 3: see where this goes, and then pop some sham pain drink.
- 31:00Speaker 3: We're excited. Have that be the moment where they say
- 31:03Speaker 3: I love you to each other for the first time.
- 31:06Speaker 3: Why did we hear that at the after the final
- 31:09Speaker 3: rowse but we didn't hear it. Then in the.
- 31:11Speaker 2: Moment they were there, were both saying that they weren't
- 31:15Speaker 2: there yet. Peg had also said the day before that
- 31:17Speaker 2: she wasn't there.
- 31:19Speaker 3: I mean, listen, we're putting a square peg in a
- 31:22Speaker 3: round hole then.
- 31:23Speaker 2: With me too, like a square peg and a mel hole.
- 31:33Speaker 3: Like they just they really wanted to force these two
- 31:38Speaker 3: into the format instead of changing and reimagining what this
- 31:45Speaker 3: could be. And I hate to say this, guys. I
- 31:49Speaker 3: love this show, I love this franchise, but this is
- 31:52Speaker 3: a part of why the numbers have dipped off and
- 31:56Speaker 3: other shows have started to go to the adapt It
- 32:00Speaker 3: is because they adapt and they change and they do
- 32:03Speaker 3: things differently, and this show has like really just like
- 32:07Speaker 3: dug its heels in and no, this is what we do.
- 32:10Speaker 3: And it's like.
- 32:10Speaker 2: Yeah, stop. Yeah. That being said, like Cindy wanted to
- 32:16Speaker 2: get married, like she wanted the proposal, and I think
- 32:19Speaker 2: that's totally fine too.
- 32:21Speaker 3: Debbie too. Debbie would have in a heartbeat, would have
- 32:25Speaker 3: married Mel.
- 32:26Speaker 2: I know him.
- 32:28Speaker 3: Sorry, I'm reading for Debbie if we get another.
- 32:31Speaker 2: Well, okay, I agree. I like the DeBie thing because
- 32:34Speaker 2: she's never been married before. Yeah, okay, low. Let's also
- 32:38Speaker 2: talk about that awkward moment where Peg says Mel doesn't
- 32:42Speaker 2: have integrity. He is integrity now when the audience was silent,
- 32:48Speaker 2: I mean there was like five claps.
- 32:51Speaker 3: Weird, it was.
- 32:52Speaker 2: Proof were like all just we were like all right, girl,
- 32:56Speaker 2: if you say so. Not that he like ever showed
- 32:59Speaker 2: that he wasn't like an honest guy. It was like
- 33:01Speaker 2: just that he was showing that he's like a clothes
- 33:03Speaker 2: off guy. So I think that as an audience, we're
- 33:05Speaker 2: just like I don't know if we can trust you
- 33:07Speaker 2: because we don't really know you, it was so funny
- 33:12Speaker 2: to keep that in there. It was all just like,
- 33:16Speaker 2: I have no problem keep it in there. It's real.
- 33:18Speaker 2: I like the fact that the audience was without words
- 33:21Speaker 2: saying how they felt.
- 33:22Speaker 3: I want to just talk to anybody that has ever
- 33:25Speaker 3: been on reality TV and been like, you don't know
- 33:28Speaker 3: the real me. I got a bad edit. Blah blah blah,
- 33:31Speaker 3: I got a bad edit. Okay, we have a lead
- 33:36Speaker 3: and they couldn't even edit him to look amazing. Okay,
- 33:40Speaker 3: So I just want everybody to know that, like it
- 33:43Speaker 3: is what it is like. If you're a villain on
- 33:48Speaker 3: reality TV. I'm nine out of ten times gonna say
- 33:51Speaker 3: you are a villain in real life. There is only
- 33:53Speaker 3: so much editing can do, and this is proof that
- 33:57Speaker 3: editing can only go so far. We cannot make something
- 34:04Speaker 3: that is not there, and they didn't. Towards the end,
- 34:10Speaker 3: I agree with Ben. They were not even trying to
- 34:13Speaker 3: make him look cool, like they were just like letting
- 34:16Speaker 3: him look like a whimp and like letting him you know,
- 34:19Speaker 3: And I want to, you know, also not say that
- 34:23Speaker 3: these producers can't do their job. I one hundred percent
- 34:29Speaker 3: know that field producing is not easy, but you cannot
- 34:33Speaker 3: get somebody to say things and do things that they
- 34:37Speaker 3: do not want to do, especially past a certain age.
- 34:39Speaker 3: I have cast shows of people sixty plus and people
- 34:43Speaker 3: are I don't want to say smarter, but they are
- 34:50Speaker 3: less flexible than a person in their twenties who comes
- 34:55Speaker 3: on the show and is more wanting to appease producers
- 35:01Speaker 3: and get through whatever they need or get more screen time.
- 35:05Speaker 3: He wasn't like that, and he again, I just go
- 35:08Speaker 3: back to the fact that he was roasted so bad
- 35:11Speaker 3: over those comments. He was like just acutely aware of, like,
- 35:14Speaker 3: my words can be flipped and switched at any given moment,
- 35:18Speaker 3: and I am going to give them the least amount
- 35:20Speaker 3: of opportunity to do that to me. He probably had
- 35:24Speaker 3: no faith too in producers that the lead was going
- 35:28Speaker 3: to be protected after that, because that is normally I
- 35:32Speaker 3: would tell people all the time, you're a lead, they're
- 35:34Speaker 3: going to make you look amazing, like you have nothing
- 35:37Speaker 3: to worry about.
- 35:38Speaker 2: And I think he was wrong in that assumption. Yeah,
- 35:41Speaker 2: I think they were really trying their best. They stuck
- 35:44Speaker 2: with him, and I don't think I think that sometimes
- 35:49Speaker 2: they're down for a slappy bachelor, but I think that
- 35:51Speaker 2: they definitely did not want a sloppy Golden Bachelor. I agree,
- 35:56Speaker 2: especially since you know Gary was such a good, successful
- 36:00Speaker 2: Golden Bachelor and then things got so sloppy that I
- 36:03Speaker 2: was just like, I don't think that they were trying
- 36:05Speaker 2: to keep going with that. Producers were so frustrated at
- 36:20Speaker 2: Mel when he had Cindy leave. When Cindy walked away,
- 36:27Speaker 2: and then they're like, let's get in Jesse. It was
- 36:31Speaker 2: hilarious to just see the producers like, just as from
- 36:35Speaker 2: my experience, like they were so freaking annoyed at this
- 36:39Speaker 2: man for being so closed off. They're like, we're gonna
- 36:41Speaker 2: pull Jesse into this moment, see what he can do,
- 36:44Speaker 2: and he could barely do anything too, And it was
- 36:48Speaker 2: just funny to watch the frustration of them being like,
- 36:51Speaker 2: I can't believe how we have we have this is
- 36:55Speaker 2: this is the lead of our show. He can't discuss
- 36:57Speaker 2: anything he's feeling.
- 36:59Speaker 3: You're so true, because right like Jesse leads the horse
- 37:03Speaker 3: to water in a sense, right, he goes, she's still here,
- 37:06Speaker 3: do you want to go talk to her? And he no?
- 37:10Speaker 2: Yeah. The way that he says no was like it
- 37:14Speaker 2: was so dicky. It was that was another moment, whereas like,
- 37:17Speaker 2: this guy's a dick. I didn't want him to be like,
- 37:20Speaker 2: please stay, please stay, because I didn't even want her
- 37:24Speaker 2: to like ever feel weak. I never wanted her to
- 37:27Speaker 2: be weak towards him and be like, Okay, fine, I'll
- 37:30Speaker 2: stay for like one more couple hours. And she did
- 37:33Speaker 2: say that she wouldn't have done that, which is great
- 37:35Speaker 2: and I'm really really happy about that. But I just
- 37:38Speaker 2: was like, ew ew, go let her be alone.
- 37:42Speaker 3: I could have seen him going to her room, and
- 37:46Speaker 3: he had earlier this season, he had eliminated Jerry, who
- 37:52Speaker 3: he gave the first impression Rose too, and when he
- 37:55Speaker 3: walked her out, he got choked up, like he really liked.
- 38:00Speaker 3: That was the first, maybe one of the only times
- 38:02Speaker 3: we saw like an emotional reaction from him in a goodbye.
- 38:07Speaker 3: I could have seen him talking to Jesse and then
- 38:10Speaker 3: saying I don't like how we just said goodbye right now,
- 38:15Speaker 3: and him going back to her room and saying, I
- 38:17Speaker 3: just want you to know how special you are. I
- 38:20Speaker 3: just want you to know how much you meant to
- 38:22Speaker 3: me in this moment, this moment, this moment, and having
- 38:25Speaker 3: some sort of reaction and now I agree with you
- 38:28Speaker 3: that it was probably an ego bruise, but I also
- 38:32Speaker 3: wonder if he was starting to feel semi emotional and
- 38:36Speaker 3: was like, huh uh, they're not going to get that
- 38:38Speaker 3: from me on cable, like I'm not going to go
- 38:41Speaker 3: and like because he again, I really think he feels
- 38:45Speaker 3: badly about eliminating And I don't want to speak from
- 38:50Speaker 3: personal experience of men that are avoidant and do this,
- 38:53Speaker 3: but pushing away so that the woman makes the choice.
- 38:57Speaker 2: Yeah, I feel like he would have loved to have
- 38:59Speaker 2: ghosted her, could have, I believe, so I believe that
- 39:03Speaker 2: is what he would do.
- 39:05Speaker 3: But that's that's the vibes I got from that whole situation.
- 39:08Speaker 3: I was like, he is not giving it to her
- 39:11Speaker 3: because he actually wants her to walk away. He doesn't
- 39:14Speaker 3: want to be the one to break up with her.
- 39:16Speaker 3: He knows it's not her. This situation is eating him
- 39:20Speaker 3: up inside, and so I think he probably didn't expect
- 39:25Speaker 3: her to be so forthright in her exit of like,
- 39:30Speaker 3: I know somebody's out there for me if it's not you,
- 39:32Speaker 3: like you know what I mean.
- 39:33Speaker 2: Like, at the same time, don't you feel like maybe
- 39:36Speaker 2: it was one of those situations where it's like, oh,
- 39:38Speaker 2: you broke up with me. I'm supposed to break up
- 39:41Speaker 2: with you. I agree, and I don't think he liked that.
- 39:44Speaker 3: I agree, because that is the uh, that is the
- 39:47Speaker 3: athletic mentality a game. He approached this game mind mentality.
- 39:54Speaker 2: As she said, what I don't we are not playing
- 39:56Speaker 2: in the same stadium or something.
- 39:58Speaker 3: Agreed. I agree.
- 39:59Speaker 2: He she's cool.
- 40:00Speaker 3: I mean, Cindy made the right call. She didn't feel
- 40:04Speaker 3: it in her gut. She trusted her gut and she
- 40:07Speaker 3: walked away. Which is why, Cindy, you will be engaged
- 40:12Speaker 3: by New Year's Eve.
- 40:14Speaker 2: Now we've uped it to engagement.
- 40:16Speaker 3: I believe you will be engaged by New Year's Eve
- 40:18Speaker 3: to somebody very hot. That's all I'm gonna say. Like,
- 40:21Speaker 3: She's like, it's gonna be somebody super hot, and I
- 40:24Speaker 3: think Debbie. I think Debbie's got an inner two to
- 40:28Speaker 3: find somebody. I think all the gals from this season
- 40:31Speaker 3: were so cool. And I totally see Peg. I'm from
- 40:35Speaker 3: Orange County where Mel lives, and I could see it's
- 40:39Speaker 3: so weird when I saw them together. I was like,
- 40:41Speaker 3: Peg is so Orange County. Like I know she lives
- 40:44Speaker 3: in Vegas, but I could totally see her living in
- 40:47Speaker 3: Orange County.
- 40:48Speaker 2: Yeah, I could see that too. All right, let's talk
- 40:51Speaker 2: about Taylor Frank you Paul's chat with Jesse. This moment
- 40:55Speaker 2: happens after she wrapped a rose ceremony. She said that
- 40:59Speaker 2: she's already had she already has a couple of crushes.
- 41:01Speaker 2: She says that her cast is really good and from
- 41:04Speaker 2: the teasers that we've seen, we agree that her cast
- 41:08Speaker 2: has like seven guys that are so her type. That's
- 41:12Speaker 2: really exciting for her and us. And then she alludes
- 41:17Speaker 2: to one guy who terrified her.
- 41:21Speaker 3: No, she says he that she terrified.
- 41:25Speaker 2: Him, Oh, in a good way or bad way. She
- 41:29Speaker 2: was like.
- 41:31Speaker 3: After she made like these, it sounds like she's eliminating
- 41:35Speaker 3: guys before Rose ceremonies. Like she's like yeah, and a
- 41:40Speaker 3: guy said to her like you terrify that terrifies me,
- 41:42Speaker 3: or you terrify me, and she's like good, Like she
- 41:46Speaker 3: likes this kind of upper hand mentality.
- 41:50Speaker 2: Uh.
- 41:51Speaker 3: I know you're new to the secret lives of Mormon wives.
- 41:55Speaker 3: Did you get or understand the dirty soda reference.
- 41:58Speaker 2: Up top with jes So? I thought, I was like,
- 42:01Speaker 2: is that just another Oh? Because they love soda, that's right.
- 42:06Speaker 2: They like drink soda, like it's drinks.
- 42:08Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 42:09Speaker 2: And then so she had a she had a spiked soda. No,
- 42:13Speaker 2: So that's the thing.
- 42:14Speaker 3: So dirty soda doesn't mean alcohol and soda. It's then.
- 42:20Speaker 2: That's what I want to I thought he was making
- 42:22Speaker 2: a funny about like the fact that it was, you know, like,
- 42:26Speaker 2: what did we dirty? Surely?
- 42:28Speaker 3: Yeah, no, not that. So in the Utah Mormon culture,
- 42:35Speaker 3: they're really into their soda drinks and this will definitely
- 42:39Speaker 3: be a part of the show and as you watch
- 42:41Speaker 3: Secret Lives more, you'll see them do this. But it's
- 42:44Speaker 3: like mixing like coconut milk and flavors and like all
- 42:48Speaker 3: this stuff into sodas and like making like a concoction
- 42:51Speaker 3: and it's called like a dirty soda. So the fact
- 42:54Speaker 3: that Jesse was like, I got a dirty soda for you,
- 42:56Speaker 3: I was like, Okay, we're really like leaning into this
- 42:59Speaker 3: right now. So that's what that was. We know that
- 43:04Speaker 3: she has a Dancing with the Stars group date on
- 43:07Speaker 3: her season. We're really making all that sin.
- 43:10Speaker 2: Very big good. We like that. I like this energy.
- 43:12Speaker 2: I think it's fun.
- 43:13Speaker 3: And we also know that her mom talk Gal some
- 43:18Speaker 3: of them are supporting her because they do come out
- 43:20Speaker 3: and visit her during filming, so we will get to
- 43:23Speaker 3: see that. Of course, you know, she mentions her favorite
- 43:27Speaker 3: things crocs, you know, so we're going to see her
- 43:31Speaker 3: wearing crocs on the show. And you know, they made
- 43:34Speaker 3: a joke about like Mel's bloopers, about Mel eating the
- 43:38Speaker 3: food on dates and that is usually not typical, and
- 43:43Speaker 3: Taylor leaned into that as well in this chat with Jesse, saying,
- 43:46Speaker 3: you know, like, can we eat the food? Can we
- 43:48Speaker 3: warm the food?
- 43:49Speaker 2: The food? People eat the food. I'm always been a
- 43:53Speaker 2: proponent of that, and that was probably my favorite segment
- 43:56Speaker 2: of Mels, the fact that she was so into food.
- 44:01Speaker 3: Well, you know why they don't let you guys eat
- 44:03Speaker 3: the food.
- 44:03Speaker 2: I know it doesn't look attractive. I get it, but
- 44:06Speaker 2: guess what.
- 44:06Speaker 3: Written that, it's more and more it's it makes it
- 44:09Speaker 3: seem way more real. It does make it seem more real.
- 44:13Speaker 3: But the real reason they don't let you guys eat
- 44:15Speaker 3: the food on the dates is because it ruins continuity.
- 44:19Speaker 3: So if you say something amazing at the end of
- 44:21Speaker 3: the sea, sorry to pull, I.
- 44:25Speaker 2: Have been telling the fandom that they just tell us
- 44:29Speaker 2: it doesn't look cute. No, that's not for the past
- 44:32Speaker 2: ten years. This makes so much sense.
- 44:37Speaker 3: Yeah, so if you say something amazing at the end
- 44:39Speaker 3: of the date that they actually want to put up
- 44:42Speaker 3: earlier in the date, but you're say, drinking wine or
- 44:45Speaker 3: eating food, and we see the glass bounce from fuld
- 44:48Speaker 3: to empty.
- 44:49Speaker 2: The steak is whole in one spot and then it's
- 44:52Speaker 2: then it's like down to a bite and then it's
- 44:54Speaker 2: back to being whole. Oh my goodness.
- 44:56Speaker 3: That's why you can't do it now if you pay
- 44:59Speaker 3: attention there there are a lot of networks out there.
- 45:01Speaker 3: I won't say which that don't care about continuity, and
- 45:04Speaker 3: you will see food and drinks bounce from da da
- 45:07Speaker 3: da da da to size difference throughout a conversation. But
- 45:10Speaker 3: clearly ABC and Hulu are very acute to that, and
- 45:14Speaker 3: that's why they don't let you guys do it.
- 45:16Speaker 2: I used to just go in and dig i ate
- 45:20Speaker 2: on all my dates. I love that I didn't have
- 45:22Speaker 2: that many more good Yeah, I was like it, loved
- 45:25Speaker 2: the it tasted, the way it looked, it was good.
- 45:28Speaker 2: It tacos once and then I had steak on another
- 45:31Speaker 2: and then oh there was one other. I think it
- 45:33Speaker 2: was chicken. I don't know. But I ate on all
- 45:35Speaker 2: of them. That's so funny. Nobody ever stopped me. That's
- 45:37Speaker 2: why I was pretty convinced that it was just for looks.
- 45:40Speaker 2: But they're probably like, oh nobody else does this, We'll
- 45:42Speaker 2: let actually do it just because, like, you know what's
- 45:45Speaker 2: working around the plates for one date.
- 45:48Speaker 3: I love that you were went against the grain. It
- 45:50Speaker 3: sounds like Jesse ate a lot on camera too during
- 45:53Speaker 3: his time.
- 45:54Speaker 2: So, uh, yeah, that's so funny.
- 45:57Speaker 3: I wrote in the notes, I wrote, these blue aren't
- 46:01Speaker 3: that funny.
- 46:02Speaker 2: They're not that funny. I mean I haven't found their
- 46:04Speaker 2: bluebirds to be funny for quite some time. They used
- 46:07Speaker 2: to be epic, they used to be hilarious, and now
- 46:10Speaker 2: they're like two bug oriented. I'm like, guys like swatting
- 46:14Speaker 2: away bugs not that funny.
- 46:16Speaker 3: I can still remember a blooper from Caitlyn's season of
- 46:19Speaker 3: her being attacked by a bird.
- 46:22Speaker 2: Well, Katelyn was petrified at bird, so that was funny.
- 46:24Speaker 2: I mean, she has tattoos on her arms because she's
- 46:27Speaker 2: so scared of birds and she wants to like try
- 46:29Speaker 2: to conquer the fear. So that was great.
- 46:31Speaker 3: That was a funny one. But yeah, no, it's like
- 46:33Speaker 3: even if bloopers can't make this guy funny, which I
- 46:36Speaker 3: was saying, I think ask recaps. I said, maybe they
- 46:39Speaker 3: should have been earing bloopers and throughout this season so
- 46:42Speaker 3: we could have seen something.
- 46:43Speaker 2: No, the bluebirl. No, that's what like freaked me out.
- 46:46Speaker 2: I was like, if this is supposed to be fund
- 46:48Speaker 2: him eating food, it's supposed to be funny, Like, oh, no,
- 46:51Speaker 2: Like I like it because I like the eating the food,
- 46:54Speaker 2: but like, if this is him funny, it's like, wow, wow,
- 46:58Speaker 2: poor guy. Again, as we've said a number of times
- 47:00Speaker 2: throughout the season, I don't know what Mel is like
- 47:03Speaker 2: in real life. I'm truly just speaking as a audience
- 47:09Speaker 2: member watching him as a lead of a show, and
- 47:13Speaker 2: he might be wonderful and I may love sitting down
- 47:16Speaker 2: having a drink with him, but I did not like
- 47:19Speaker 2: watching him as a lead. He was not meant for TV.
- 47:22Speaker 3: I fully agree. We are not talking about Mel as
- 47:25Speaker 3: a person. We are talking about Mel as a lead.
- 47:28Speaker 3: Not everybody is meant to be a lead. This is
- 47:31Speaker 3: why this part of the casting process is honestly the
- 47:34Speaker 3: most difficult. You can find a ton of people that
- 47:37Speaker 3: are great to be you know, background first one kicked
- 47:42Speaker 3: off somebody that you think is going to go far.
- 47:45Speaker 3: But casting a lead takes a lot, a lot of time,
- 47:49Speaker 3: and I think that you know, it sucks. I really
- 47:55Speaker 3: do want to believe, like you that there will be
- 47:58Speaker 3: more seasons of the Goldens, But I really feel like
- 48:03Speaker 3: this is a womp womp, and we are not going
- 48:06Speaker 3: to see it. If we do for for a while,
- 48:10Speaker 3: they're not going to put an allocate funds to something
- 48:12Speaker 3: that's not bringing in the numbers. And we all know
- 48:16Speaker 3: that this did not bring in the numbers, not at all. Wait,
- 48:19Speaker 3: can we talk about before we go? Can we talk
- 48:21Speaker 3: about the audience the people that were in the audience
- 48:24Speaker 3: for AFR. Did you did you see that Gary and Teresa?
- 48:29Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, the audience you know, Oh my gosh.
- 48:33Speaker 2: We knew that Teresa was going Ben knew somehow. And
- 48:38Speaker 2: then Heather and I discussed earlier in the week how
- 48:41Speaker 2: we didn't even think Gary was going to show his
- 48:43Speaker 2: face because of you know, the chopper up and put
- 48:45Speaker 2: her in the shed comment. But then he was there.
- 48:47Speaker 2: They even threw to him in the audience. I was like,
- 48:51Speaker 2: I don't know how I do. That's a weird You
- 48:52Speaker 2: notice that.
- 48:53Speaker 3: The first time that they that they introed him when
- 48:55Speaker 3: they were saying everybody, they were like, Jesse was like hey,
- 48:58Speaker 3: so and so Hey, he was like hey, Joan and Chock,
- 49:01Speaker 3: how's it going, and like they chatted and then he's
- 49:03Speaker 3: like hey Gary, and then he goes and hey jessin
- 49:06Speaker 3: Spencer like he did not talk to Gary the first
- 49:09Speaker 3: time that they pointed out, and I was like, oh, interesting,
- 49:12Speaker 3: But then at the end they did toss to him
- 49:15Speaker 3: and I was like, still interesting because Gary said when
- 49:19Speaker 3: he was on with you and Ben, he never met Mel.
- 49:22Speaker 3: He never talked to Mel before this experience. So yeah,
- 49:26Speaker 3: I agree that was a little bit weird that he
- 49:28Speaker 3: was in the audience. I thought it was weird that
- 49:32Speaker 3: so Teresa and Leslie were there, Joan was there, but
- 49:36Speaker 3: that was it from Gary season. All the rest of
- 49:39Speaker 3: the women in the audience were for Mel season. So
- 49:43Speaker 3: it's interesting that they didn't invite any of like Susan
- 49:46Speaker 3: and Cathy or like some of our other favorite Goldens
- 49:49Speaker 3: were in the audience.
- 49:52Speaker 2: Why would they have Teresa be there if they weren't
- 49:54Speaker 2: going to throw to her.
- 49:56Speaker 3: Okay, so if you haven't listened, we did an episode
- 49:59Speaker 3: with Joe and Rachel Rekya that yeah, and they were
- 50:04Speaker 3: both in the audience, and they said that during the
- 50:07Speaker 3: commercial breaks, right, you guys get up and talk to
- 50:09Speaker 3: each other and stuff like that. They said, zero communication
- 50:13Speaker 3: between Gary and Teresa. And they were sitting, of course,
- 50:16Speaker 3: not extremely close to each other.
- 50:19Speaker 2: Why would they put them extremely close to each other
- 50:21Speaker 2: if they weren't going to utilize it for our entertainment
- 50:24Speaker 2: And I don't get it.
- 50:25Speaker 3: I don't get it. Well, well, I'm not going to
- 50:29Speaker 3: say what we have coming up, but we're going to
- 50:31Speaker 3: have to get into this more. We're gonna have to
- 50:34Speaker 3: dive into this more.
- 50:35Speaker 2: We have to get Teresa on the podcast. I know
- 50:39Speaker 2: that she was almost Charlene, but we need to have
- 50:42Speaker 2: like our time with Gary and now our time with Teresa.
- 50:45Speaker 2: I agree, Okay, if I were Teresa, I would not
- 50:49Speaker 2: have gone knowing that Gary was there.
- 50:50Speaker 3: I agree. Unless I'm there to like speak or say something,
- 50:55Speaker 3: I'm probably not gonna want to be.
- 50:56Speaker 2: In this tame for that.
- 50:58Speaker 3: As my ex that said weird stuff like that, I know.
- 51:02Speaker 2: Okay, all right, this was fun until next time, guys,
- 51:08Speaker 2: and we won't have a season to recap in a
- 51:10Speaker 2: long time, so give us ideas as to what you
- 51:12Speaker 2: guys want us to talk about or who you want
- 51:15Speaker 2: us to interview. We appreciate all the feedback. We love
- 51:19Speaker 2: you so much. Until next time, I've been Ashley, I've
- 51:22Speaker 2: been Heather Bye.
- 51:24Speaker 1: Follow the Ben and Ashley I Almost Famous podcast on
