- 0:11Speaker 1: Gonna give Up addition, as the Bengals look to get
- 0:14Speaker 1: back on the winning track as they host the Las
- 0:17Speaker 1: Vegas Raiders at pay Corp Stadium. Coming up, I'll talk
- 0:20Speaker 1: to ESPN's dan Orlowski about the current state of the
- 0:24Speaker 1: team and something unusual coming in a bottom month, A
- 0:28Speaker 1: Simpson's themed telecast of the Bengals Cowboys game on Monday
- 0:32Speaker 1: Night Football. My one on one player interview is with
- 0:35Speaker 1: special teams Ace Tyson Anderson, and in our nother faux segment,
- 0:40Speaker 1: we get an in depth look at the Raiders from
- 0:42Speaker 1: their radio voice, Jason Horowitz. The Bengals Booth Podcast is

- 1:05Speaker 1: that you can have the latest edition of this podcast
- 1:08Speaker 1: delivered right to your phone, tablet, or computer by subscribing
- 1:11Speaker 1: wherever you get your podcasts. It's the greatest thing since
- 1:16Speaker 1: obeying signs. I went on a run the other day
- 1:19Speaker 1: and approached a sign that said the sidewalk was closed ahead. Well,
- 1:23Speaker 1: I really wanted to keep going in that direction, and
- 1:26Speaker 1: I could see past the point where construction workers were
- 1:29Speaker 1: digging up the sidewalk. So I walked down a massive hill,
- 1:34Speaker 1: went past the construction, walked back up the gigantic hill,
- 1:37Speaker 1: and figured everything would be okay. I was sadly mistaken.
- 1:42Speaker 1: In order to keep going, I had to scale one
- 1:45Speaker 1: fence and twist my body through the opening in another.
- 1:49Speaker 1: Neither maneuver was safe. In fact, both were stupid. Moral
- 1:54Speaker 1: of the story, the signs are there for a reason.
- 1:57Speaker 1: Pay attention, moron. Now let's get to my first guest.
- 2:02Speaker 1: ESPN's Dan Orlovsky is good natured about the most embarrassing
- 2:06Speaker 1: moment of his twelve year NFL career, when he lost
- 2:09Speaker 1: track of the back of the end zone and ran
- 2:12Speaker 1: out of bounds for a safety. His Twitter profile includes
- 2:15Speaker 1: the phrase that end zones should be eleven yards. Fast
- 2:20Speaker 1: forward sixteen years, and Dan has become one of ESPN's
- 2:23Speaker 1: top analysts. He joined me this week to discuss the
- 2:27Speaker 1: Bengals and an interesting project that he'll be involved in
- 2:31Speaker 1: next month. In the Dancing Homer episode of The Simpsons,
- 2:36Speaker 1: there's a sportscaster named Dan Horde, a buddy of mine,
- 2:40Speaker 1: wrote the episode, and that's cool. But ESPN's Dan Orlovsky
- 2:44Speaker 1: is going to be involved in something even cooler, the
- 2:47Speaker 1: first ever Simpson's theme telecast of an NFL game coming
- 2:52Speaker 1: up in December, when the Bengals take on the Cowboys.
- 2:55Speaker 1: Dan tell us what you know at this point about
- 2:58Speaker 1: this alternative Simpson telecast of an NFL game.
- 3:02Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't know if what I know is as
- 3:04Speaker 2: cool as that story that you just shared. It's you know.
- 3:06Speaker 2: When they came to me, so I called actually the
- 3:09Speaker 2: ESPN Plus game of last year when they did the
- 3:12Speaker 2: Toy Story version of this, and I remember my wife
- 3:15Speaker 2: calling me, going, like all our kids want to do
- 3:17Speaker 2: is watch the Toy Story version and not your game.
- 3:20Speaker 2: And so I've seen some clips of that and obviously
- 3:22Speaker 2: it was a massive success. And so when they came
- 3:24Speaker 2: to me, I don't know, about a month or two
- 3:26Speaker 2: ago and asked if I had interest in doing the
- 3:29Speaker 2: Simpsons version. My immediate reaction was like, of course, I
- 3:32Speaker 2: was a nineties kid, you know, so the Simpsons, you know,
- 3:35Speaker 2: at least in my mind, were the most popular thing
- 3:37Speaker 2: in the world outside of like Sports Center in the nineties,
- 3:40Speaker 2: So growing up in many ways on the Simpsons, it was,
- 3:44Speaker 2: you know, an easy guest for me. And so we've
- 3:46Speaker 2: actually had a meeting recently about kind of what it is.
- 3:50Speaker 2: What I know is we're a little bit in the
- 3:53Speaker 2: Simpsons world, Mina and I, and we're kind of taking
- 3:58Speaker 2: vintage point of this game happening in that world, and
- 4:01Speaker 2: there'll be interaction with the Simpsons characters, and it'll be
- 4:06Speaker 2: a pretty pretty cool experience to not only be a
- 4:08Speaker 2: part of, but to just kind of a watch. If
- 4:11Speaker 2: you have any any background with the Simpsons.
- 4:15Speaker 1: It's about the longest running show in TV history. Are
- 4:18Speaker 1: your wife and kids Simpsons fans?
- 4:22Speaker 2: Again, my wife's nineties kids, so for sure, you know,
- 4:25Speaker 2: and I have my kids are Simpsons fans. I have
- 4:28Speaker 2: one son who is a Simpson fanatic, so we have
- 4:33Speaker 2: triplet so we have four kids. We have triplet sons,
- 4:36Speaker 2: and my one son is who's a Simpson fanatic. Is
- 4:40Speaker 2: super artistic, super creative. The way he looks at the world.
- 4:44Speaker 2: He's constantly drawing anything that has animation to it. My
- 4:49Speaker 2: son is all about and so when he, you know,
- 4:51Speaker 2: first saw The Simpsons and that being really animated, and
- 4:54Speaker 2: there's not a ton that we watch in our house
- 4:56Speaker 2: that probably is, you know it, Certainly he was gravita
- 5:00Speaker 2: towards it. And so he is constantly writing into or
- 5:03Speaker 2: drawing his own animations cartoons, and so he has had
- 5:08Speaker 2: hours spent drawing the Simpsons characters and probably creating some
- 5:13Speaker 2: of his own, you know, I guess episodes essentially. So yeah,
- 5:17Speaker 2: it's it's certainly a Simpsons household in some way. But
- 5:21Speaker 2: I have a son who's very much so a Simpsons fan.
- 5:24Speaker 1: The ESPN's Dan Orlovsky is our guest. Your tape breakdowns
- 5:28Speaker 1: are as good as it gets. And when you focus
- 5:30Speaker 1: on Joe Burrow at times, I feel like I almost
- 5:33Speaker 1: hear awe in your voice. Is that accurate? And if so,
- 5:38Speaker 1: why that's accurate?
- 5:40Speaker 2: And why is because what Joe's capable of doing on
- 5:45Speaker 2: a play by player consistent basis not capable of doing
- 5:48Speaker 2: what he does. I understand how hard it is. And
- 5:51Speaker 2: so when you watch a person, you know, because I
- 5:54Speaker 2: have the vantage point of at least I was in
- 5:56Speaker 2: that same league, you know, So I know how hard
- 5:59Speaker 2: it is to do some of the things that he
- 6:01Speaker 2: does all the time, and I marvel at someone with
- 6:04Speaker 2: their ability to do it all the time. And while
- 6:07Speaker 2: you know, I know that I was in that league
- 6:09Speaker 2: for a dozen years, there's times when I watch a
- 6:12Speaker 2: player like Joan and I'm like, there's no way I
- 6:13Speaker 2: was in the same league, you know. And so I
- 6:15Speaker 2: think that when you there isn't awe it's been that way,
- 6:20Speaker 2: you know. I'll share a little bit of a story.
- 6:23Speaker 2: When Joe was coming out of school. It was Joe
- 6:25Speaker 2: Trevor Lawrence kind of in that National title game type
- 6:28Speaker 2: of thing, and and I was team Trevor Lawrence all
- 6:31Speaker 2: the way. And I called that game on a Mega
- 6:34Speaker 2: cast on the sidelines, and I remember walking out of
- 6:36Speaker 2: that game and being I've only seen one person that
- 6:42Speaker 2: made me feel that way with his gravity and his
- 6:44Speaker 2: poll and that was Matthew Stafford. And so I think
- 6:48Speaker 2: that was the year that Zach Tator was getting hired
- 6:50Speaker 2: and Brian Callahan, who was the longtime Cincinnati Bengals coordinator
- 6:55Speaker 2: I just remember was leaving Detroit. He was with me
- 6:58Speaker 2: in Detroit with Matthew and I just remember reaching out
- 7:00Speaker 2: to him shortly after that game when they were gonna
- 7:03Speaker 2: have the number one pick and being like, it's Joe
- 7:06Speaker 2: Burrow and it's not close, and he was like, what
- 7:09Speaker 2: do you mean. I'm like, just this, it's Joe. Just
- 7:12Speaker 2: take Joe at number one and don't hesitate, and you know,
- 7:15Speaker 2: I remember him kind of throw out the process, being like,
- 7:18Speaker 2: this guy different. And so I've always had an appreciation
- 7:20Speaker 2: and affinity for how good of a player Joe was.
- 7:24Speaker 1: Damn For three straight weeks the Bengals scored thirty three
- 7:26Speaker 1: or more points, and then over the last three weeks,
- 7:29Speaker 1: the offensive has only scored two touchdowns in each of
- 7:31Speaker 1: those games. What would you like to see the Bengals
- 7:34Speaker 1: do differently on that side of the ball.
- 7:37Speaker 2: Yeah, I actually like some of the scheme stuff that
- 7:39Speaker 2: they've really deployed. I would say over the last five
- 7:42Speaker 2: or six weeks, I think the balance and the complete
- 7:46Speaker 2: element of their offense has grown a lot, certainly since
- 7:49Speaker 2: the beginning of the season, and very much sold last year,
- 7:51Speaker 2: and so I think a lot of the scheme stuff
- 7:55Speaker 2: that they're doing I enjoy. I like there arepo stuff.
- 7:57Speaker 2: I like their ability to run the football from undercent
- 8:00Speaker 2: or maybe create some more big and explosive runs but
- 8:03Speaker 2: hard to do. I like their play action game, both
- 8:06Speaker 2: under and from the gun when they like to get
- 8:08Speaker 2: Joe on the move, and so I think there's a
- 8:11Speaker 2: lot of stuff in their offense that schematically. I like
- 8:14Speaker 2: some of the additions this past week. You know, I
- 8:18Speaker 2: still think that, you know, team not being there took
- 8:21Speaker 2: an explosive element away from their offense, and so you know,
- 8:24Speaker 2: Cleveland's defense is probably a better unit than their team
- 8:29Speaker 2: record indicates, especially when you know they're in games and
- 8:33Speaker 2: so you know red zone. They obviously have to score
- 8:38Speaker 2: more touchdowns in the red zone. That's a very blanket statement.
- 8:41Speaker 2: I think the better they could be on early downs
- 8:44Speaker 2: down there is going to help them rather than it
- 8:47Speaker 2: feels like a constant third and goal from the six.
- 8:49Speaker 2: I mean, that's just a really hard thing to consistently accomplish.
- 8:54Speaker 1: You have been very complimentary toward lou Ana Roumo in
- 8:57Speaker 1: the past. What do you think are some of the
- 8:59Speaker 1: biggest issue shoes that he's dealing with on the defensive
- 9:02Speaker 1: side of the ball.
- 9:04Speaker 2: Well. Number One, they've big tackled very poorly for the
- 9:07Speaker 2: majority of this season. They just have not tackled well,
- 9:10Speaker 2: specifically the secondary. I don't think has you know, as
- 9:15Speaker 2: an offense, a lot of times defenses or as an
- 9:18Speaker 2: offense a lot of times schemes or teams have said,
- 9:21Speaker 2: we want to get the ball to the unblocked defender
- 9:23Speaker 2: and meaning that's a corner or safety, and you know,
- 9:26Speaker 2: they they want to get in those one on one situations,
- 9:28Speaker 2: and I think just as a team, they haven't tackled
- 9:31Speaker 2: well in those situations. They haven't found that consistent pass
- 9:35Speaker 2: rush that they've had in the past. Sam and Trey
- 9:37Speaker 2: while have you know, been tremendous players, it just hasn't
- 9:40Speaker 2: happened this year. Specifically over the past couple of weeks,
- 9:43Speaker 2: they just haven't gotten home nearly as much. And so,
- 9:47Speaker 2: you know, when you're not tackling well and you're not
- 9:49Speaker 2: winning on early downs and you're not getting to the quarterback,
- 9:51Speaker 2: it's just really hard for everybody. Attach they've been given
- 9:54Speaker 2: up big pass plays down the field, and so I
- 9:57Speaker 2: think that you know, right now, Louis is still searching
- 10:00Speaker 2: for that thing that go to scheme or tactic or
- 10:06Speaker 2: person that he's had in the past.
- 10:09Speaker 1: The Raiders come to town this week with two wins, one
- 10:12Speaker 1: of them was over the Ravens in Baltimore. What must
- 10:15Speaker 1: the Bengals do to be successful at home this Sunday?
- 10:19Speaker 2: Number one? Stop Rock Bowers. Rock Bouwer is good, good
- 10:22Speaker 2: young tight end, and they are gonna there's moments, well
- 10:25Speaker 2: they'll try to throw them the ball four or five
- 10:26Speaker 2: six times in a row. They don't sugarcoat it with
- 10:29Speaker 2: the Raiders. They're trying to get into football. Two good
- 10:32Speaker 2: receivers of Jacoby Myers and Tucker So like, you got
- 10:35Speaker 2: to manage those guys. They're good players, but Brock Bauers
- 10:38Speaker 2: is the foundational kind of playmaker piece of their offense.
- 10:43Speaker 2: And then on the opposite side, it's very clear you
- 10:47Speaker 2: gotta handle Max Crosby. Every single play. Max can literally
- 10:51Speaker 2: ruin the game. I mean, if anybody in your guys
- 10:54Speaker 2: division wants to find out how go watch what he
- 10:56Speaker 2: did against the Ravens this year. He won the football
- 10:59Speaker 2: game for them. So I think you know, the Raiders
- 11:02Speaker 2: sneaky have like a solid defense and good defense. This
- 11:05Speaker 2: isn't going to be an easy task for their offense.
- 11:08Speaker 2: You gotta on every single play have multiple bodies or
- 11:12Speaker 2: no one blocking Max Crosby. I don't think you try
- 11:14Speaker 2: to block him one on one, and moments when you
- 11:17Speaker 2: don't block him, you're putting him in conflict with like
- 11:19Speaker 2: an RPO or something like that. Other than that, it's
- 11:22Speaker 2: four hands and two sets of hands on him every time.
- 11:25Speaker 1: Dan, We appreciate your time, and let the record show
- 11:28Speaker 1: that in two thousand and one, I was behind the
- 11:31Speaker 1: mic when an eighteen year old freshman named Dan Orlovsky
- 11:35Speaker 1: came into Nippert Stadium and threw for three hundred and
- 11:37Speaker 1: eighty three yards and three touchdowns against the UC Bearcats.
- 11:41Speaker 1: So I have seen you perform at the quarterback position.
- 11:46Speaker 2: That was a freshman. I think we lost. And while
- 11:51Speaker 2: I may have been played played well, my bet is
- 11:55Speaker 2: Gino played better.
- 11:57Speaker 1: Gino GODOOLI was also a freshman and had a great
- 12:00Speaker 1: The Bearcats won forty five to twenty eight. But you
- 12:02Speaker 1: played very well. Thank you, Thank you, appreciate time. Keep
- 12:06Speaker 1: up the great word.
- 12:07Speaker 2: Yes, sir, thank you.
- 12:09Speaker 1: By the way, just to be clear that Simpson's themed
- 12:11Speaker 1: telecast of the Bengals Cowboys game is an alternate broadcast
- 12:16Speaker 1: you can still watch Joe Buck and Troy Aikman call
- 12:18Speaker 1: the game or the Manning Cast. The Simpsons version will
- 12:22Speaker 1: be a third option. The Bengals Booth podcast is brought
- 12:25Speaker 1: to you by pay Corp, proud to be the Bengals
- 12:27Speaker 1: official HR software provider, by Alta Fiber future Proof Fiber
- 12:32Speaker 1: Internet designed to elevate your home, business and community to
- 12:35Speaker 1: a new level, and by Kettering Health the best Care
- 12:39Speaker 1: for the best Fans. Kettering Health is the official healthcare
- 12:42Speaker 1: provider of the Bengals. Rookie punter Ryan Rico is currently
- 12:46Speaker 1: third in the NFL in net punting average at forty
- 12:49Speaker 1: four point nine. That would break Kevin Huber's single season
- 12:53Speaker 1: team record by about two yards. Rico's big leg is
- 12:57Speaker 1: the biggest reason, but the coverage team, led by Special
- 13:01Speaker 1: teams Ace Tyson Anderson, is a huge factor as well.
- 13:05Speaker 1: I caught up with Anderson this week. Tyson, as we
- 13:09Speaker 1: do this interview, it's basically a year to the day
- 13:13Speaker 1: since you toy your ACL at San Francisco. I think
- 13:16Speaker 1: it was a year ago yesterday. I've heard you say
- 13:19Speaker 1: you are faster now. Is that the case?
- 13:22Speaker 3: I like to think I'm faster now. For sure. I
- 13:25Speaker 3: don't know what it is.
- 13:26Speaker 4: I don't know if this is a little rest recovery.
- 13:28Speaker 4: I don't really know what it is, but I'll for
- 13:30Speaker 4: sure feel as fast or faster.
- 13:33Speaker 1: Really know, is there any evidence of that?
- 13:36Speaker 3: Oh no, I hit twenty two yet, so I can't say.
- 13:39Speaker 1: That twenty two miles an hours the goal.
- 13:41Speaker 3: Yeah, that's to go.
- 13:43Speaker 1: What's the worst part of rehabbing a torn acl uh?
- 13:49Speaker 4: After you get past I mean, the worst part is,
- 13:51Speaker 4: honestly just being away from the guys, really your day
- 13:53Speaker 4: to day routine, coming in here, laughing and joking with
- 13:55Speaker 4: the guys. But other than that, the pain for the
- 13:59Speaker 4: first couple of days, it's really those first Once you
- 14:01Speaker 4: get through those first like two or three nights, it's
- 14:03Speaker 4: pretty first two nights, pretty tough.
- 14:04Speaker 3: And then once you get through that, I mean, it's
- 14:07Speaker 3: kind of just baby steps.
- 14:08Speaker 4: The hardest part for me really seemed like it was
- 14:10Speaker 4: figuring out how to walk again. I never thought, you know,
- 14:13Speaker 4: when you're a kid, you just learn how to walk.
- 14:15Speaker 4: I guess you don't really think about it. At least
- 14:17Speaker 4: I don't remember learning how to walk, So being a
- 14:19Speaker 4: grown man and teaching myself how to walk again, for sure,
- 14:22Speaker 4: was probably the toughest thing.
- 14:23Speaker 1: You literally had to learn how to walk again.
- 14:26Speaker 4: No, see, literally had to learn how to walk again.
- 14:28Speaker 4: He would have told everything had to make my quad fire.
- 14:31Speaker 4: It was for sure challenging.
- 14:34Speaker 1: Did you have anybody who was also going through rehab
- 14:37Speaker 1: that you did things together with?
- 14:40Speaker 4: Oh?
- 14:40Speaker 3: Yeah, my dj Ivy. Yeah, every day. That's why.
- 14:43Speaker 4: I mean we Didne got so much closer over the
- 14:44Speaker 4: last year, and me just giving him advice because he
- 14:48Speaker 4: was back probably even sooner than me. I was saying,
- 14:51Speaker 4: I think I got back pretty fairly quickly. And for
- 14:54Speaker 4: him to bounce back like he did, I mean we
- 14:56Speaker 4: always just bounce ideas off each other. I told him
- 14:59Speaker 4: where he would be feeling and pain and how can
- 15:00Speaker 4: you avoid it? How could he just be better than
- 15:03Speaker 4: I was?
- 15:04Speaker 3: And he did that.
- 15:06Speaker 4: So that was for sure somebody that we bounced a
- 15:07Speaker 4: lot of ideas with and kind of iron sharp and
- 15:10Speaker 4: iron we got back.
- 15:11Speaker 1: Right now that you mentioned it, it seems like you
- 15:13Speaker 1: two guys are often the last two people to leave
- 15:16Speaker 1: the stadium at the end of the day. Do you
- 15:18Speaker 1: guys do physical training and things to maintain your body together? Now?
- 15:24Speaker 4: Yeah, for sure, I mean we got I like to
- 15:26Speaker 4: call it BFR Tuesdays and Fridays, we do just kind
- 15:30Speaker 4: of keep the strength up, keep the maintenance up, and
- 15:33Speaker 4: we always hop it in the code to doing extra
- 15:35Speaker 4: things in the training room just to make sure we
- 15:37Speaker 4: stand on top of our injury, just so nothing like
- 15:39Speaker 4: this ever happens again, even though it was a freak
- 15:41Speaker 4: accident that you really can't only God knows really, but
- 15:45Speaker 4: just trying to do as much as we can to
- 15:47Speaker 4: make sure we go through seventeen and twenty weeks, twenty two.
- 15:50Speaker 1: Weeks visiting the Tyson Anderson. You're playing at a very
- 15:53Speaker 1: high level right now on Special Teams. You're tied for
- 15:56Speaker 1: the NFL league lead in solo tackles, You're the leaders
- 16:01Speaker 1: in overall special teams tackles. Do you look at that
- 16:04Speaker 1: stat and is it a specific goal of yours to
- 16:07Speaker 1: lead the league in that category?
- 16:09Speaker 4: No, Yeah, for sure, I for sure look at it
- 16:11Speaker 4: all the time. I mean, I just always like to
- 16:13Speaker 4: see how other Special teams players are doing around the league.
- 16:16Speaker 4: I get cut up since my iPad all the time.
- 16:19Speaker 4: The best gunner tackles the most, who got the most
- 16:21Speaker 4: gunner tackles? The gunner tackles of the week, things like that,
- 16:25Speaker 4: So that's for sure something I keep track of. Mike Thomas,
- 16:27Speaker 4: my rookie year, showed me a cool little website that
- 16:31Speaker 4: I can keep track of it all and always just
- 16:33Speaker 4: every week, just look at it once a week just
- 16:35Speaker 4: to see how am my climbing toward the top. Are
- 16:38Speaker 4: people catching me? Or is the leader is he? Did
- 16:41Speaker 4: he not have any tackles that week? So I'm always
- 16:44Speaker 4: look at it for sure once a week.
- 16:45Speaker 1: Good old uncle Mike, your mentor and your friend. He's
- 16:49Speaker 1: not playing this year, He's working for the Players Association.
- 16:52Speaker 1: But what lessons resonated with you? What do you still
- 16:56Speaker 1: hear in your head when you think of Uncle Mike?
- 16:58Speaker 3: I for sure remember just him.
- 17:01Speaker 4: He would always just tell me my rookie year, when
- 17:03Speaker 4: I was going through everything, I was going through that
- 17:04Speaker 4: and he was just telling me, in due time, keep
- 17:07Speaker 4: putting the work in and due time when you get
- 17:10Speaker 4: your next moment, don't let don't let go. I can
- 17:12Speaker 4: for sure always hear him saying little things like that in.
- 17:15Speaker 3: Due time and due time and due time.
- 17:17Speaker 4: And it took me a year to get to that
- 17:19Speaker 4: due time, but I got to it and capitalize on it.
- 17:22Speaker 4: And Sally it was my season was cut short, but
- 17:25Speaker 4: still in due time. I was telling myself that all
- 17:27Speaker 4: the time and rehab in due time. As the months
- 17:29Speaker 4: went on and went on, in due time, you.
- 17:31Speaker 3: Go be back. You'll be back to yourself in due time.
- 17:33Speaker 3: So that's for sure something I'm always keep Tyson.
- 17:37Speaker 1: We've all heard the expression that a punter out kicked
- 17:40Speaker 1: his coverage. You don't want Ryan Rico to even think
- 17:44Speaker 1: about that, right, No?
- 17:46Speaker 4: Yeah, I always tell Ryan Ryan booted as far as
- 17:49Speaker 4: you can. I promise you, I'm gonna make you right. Bro,
- 17:52Speaker 4: Just keep booting as far as you can. I'm gonna
- 17:54Speaker 4: make you right. And I just want him to have
- 17:56Speaker 4: the utmost confidence in himself. And I got to know
- 17:59Speaker 4: I have the utmost confident in him, because I mean,
- 18:01Speaker 4: I've never been around a punter who's like, who's doing
- 18:04Speaker 4: what he doing and hanging it up to how he
- 18:06Speaker 4: hanging it up. So it's for sure it taking me
- 18:08Speaker 4: some adjusting just to know where the ball go be,
- 18:11Speaker 4: how long the ball really is going to be in
- 18:13Speaker 4: the air, so I can kind of time up some
- 18:15Speaker 4: of my some of my stuff.
- 18:17Speaker 1: I ran into former Bengals punter Kevin Hubert recently, he
- 18:20Speaker 1: was the punter here for more than a decade. He said,
- 18:22Speaker 1: that guy's gonna break every record that I ever had.
- 18:26Speaker 1: Are you just amazed by how far he punchs the ball?
- 18:28Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm amazed how far he punts it, But I'm
- 18:30Speaker 4: more amazed how high the ball goes in.
- 18:32Speaker 3: The air when he punts it.
- 18:34Speaker 4: Like it's like I can't really see it until we
- 18:37Speaker 4: get on film the next time, but it's like, the
- 18:40Speaker 4: ball should not be that high in the air ever,
- 18:42Speaker 4: and it's like, yeah, it's crazy. It's coming off his
- 18:44Speaker 4: leg like a rocket really once he gets a real
- 18:46Speaker 4: good hit on it.
- 18:47Speaker 1: So it's for sure he received the game ball after
- 18:50Speaker 1: the winnow of the New York Giants. I'm sure it
- 18:52Speaker 1: was meaningful for you. But how excited were friends and
- 18:55Speaker 1: family when they saw the video of Zach Taylor giving
- 18:59Speaker 1: you that?
- 19:00Speaker 3: No, yeah, for sure they was.
- 19:02Speaker 4: They was probably you can say they probably more excited
- 19:04Speaker 4: than me, really, But it was just a cool experience.
- 19:07Speaker 4: Just I mean, I've never gotten a game ball besides
- 19:10Speaker 4: my game boys when I had to depict sixes in
- 19:11Speaker 4: the in the preseason, but we lost that game, so
- 19:13Speaker 4: it was no game Boys.
- 19:14Speaker 3: Giving out that. But it was just a cool experience.
- 19:16Speaker 4: The coolest part was just, uh my teammate celebrated me
- 19:19Speaker 4: how they did, just knowing how much work out and
- 19:21Speaker 4: put in to get to up to that moment, and
- 19:23Speaker 4: it was just cool kind of to just hear their
- 19:26Speaker 4: their their jokes and comments in the background.
- 19:28Speaker 3: For me, it was it was cool.
- 19:30Speaker 1: There are a lot of players that play special teams
- 19:33Speaker 1: because they have to. That is their path to making
- 19:36Speaker 1: a living in the NFL. You seem to genuinely love it,
- 19:40Speaker 1: Am I right about that?
- 19:41Speaker 2: No?
- 19:41Speaker 3: Yeah, you for sure right.
- 19:42Speaker 4: I mean, at the end of the day, every team,
- 19:45Speaker 4: I always tell people, every team is everybody got a
- 19:48Speaker 4: role on the team, and the moment you find your
- 19:51Speaker 4: role and maximize your role and have fun doing your role,
- 19:55Speaker 4: that's when teams go great places for real. So when
- 19:58Speaker 4: I was a freshman at UT I play especial of
- 20:00Speaker 4: teams and brought brought everything to it and we wanted
- 20:02Speaker 4: to MAC Championship my freshman year. I mean, more to
- 20:05Speaker 4: do probably with Logan Woodside and Deontay Johnson and all
- 20:07Speaker 4: them dudes. But I like to think of my role
- 20:10Speaker 4: on special teams. I just try to get the crowd
- 20:12Speaker 4: going anyway that possible, get some momentum, make a momentum
- 20:15Speaker 4: changing play, or keep momentum on our side and just
- 20:18Speaker 4: keep the crowd engauge. So I just I just try
- 20:21Speaker 4: to be electric, honestly every time I hit the field.
- 20:23Speaker 1: You have nine games left in the regular season, you
- 20:26Speaker 1: probably need to win seven to make the playoffs. Why
- 20:29Speaker 1: do you feel that's realistic?
- 20:31Speaker 4: I mean, just those dudes in the locker room. Really,
- 20:33Speaker 4: that's the only reason. If those dudes in the locker room,
- 20:36Speaker 4: the coaches upstairs, the organization. I mean, we've our back
- 20:40Speaker 4: been against the wall before. I'm not It's not like
- 20:42Speaker 4: it's not happen before, And every time it's happened, we've
- 20:44Speaker 4: always just risen up to to those challenges, really, and
- 20:49Speaker 4: I expect us to kind of do the same. Really,
- 20:52Speaker 4: And we got everybody in our on our schedule. I mean,
- 20:55Speaker 4: we can we can contend and be everybody on our schedule,
- 20:59Speaker 4: but we just got to go on with the right
- 21:00Speaker 4: mindset and execute at a high level.
- 21:03Speaker 1: The Raiders are next. They've only won two games, but
- 21:06Speaker 1: one of those wins was over the Ravens in Baltimore.
- 21:09Speaker 1: They gave the Chiefs everything they could handle last week.
- 21:12Speaker 1: What do you think are a couple of keys to
- 21:13Speaker 1: being successful on Sunday?
- 21:15Speaker 4: Oh yeah, man, for sure. Can only speak for the
- 21:17Speaker 4: defense and special teams. Defensively, I mean just stopping and
- 21:21Speaker 4: run and stopping explosive plays and creating some turnovers. I mean,
- 21:24Speaker 4: once you win the turnover battle in this league, usually
- 21:27Speaker 4: you win the game. So I would say just stopping
- 21:29Speaker 4: and run, stopping explosive plays, and getting off the field
- 21:31Speaker 4: on third down two and then special teams somebody. We
- 21:34Speaker 4: got to make a game changing play, whether that's a
- 21:37Speaker 4: forced fumble, a touchdown like we did against Cleveland. We
- 21:41Speaker 4: got to bring the juice and bring the energy and
- 21:42Speaker 4: had this place rocking for when our defense take the
- 21:45Speaker 4: field or when our offense take the field.
- 21:47Speaker 1: Final thing for Tyson Anderson, this is something I thought
- 21:49Speaker 1: to ask you before, but never have. Your first name
- 21:52Speaker 1: is spelled unusually. It's t y ce N instead of
- 21:56Speaker 1: t ys n. Is there a story behind the unusual
- 22:00Speaker 1: spelling of Tyson?
- 22:02Speaker 4: Yeah, my mom was telling me back in the day
- 22:06Speaker 4: there was a model named Tyson that was kind of
- 22:09Speaker 4: I think his name was kind of spelled like mine.
- 22:11Speaker 4: If I remember the story correctly, but that's pretty much
- 22:13Speaker 4: the only thing. But that's crazy because I got another
- 22:16Speaker 4: cousin whose name is Tyson and he spells his t
- 22:19Speaker 4: y s o n so.
- 22:21Speaker 3: It's kind of funny.
- 22:23Speaker 1: Name for a model. I could see why your mom
- 22:25Speaker 1: would one of you. Oh my goodness, appreciate your time,
- 22:30Speaker 1: best of luck this week, No, I appreciate you. One
- 22:33Speaker 1: of the most famous male models of all time is
- 22:36Speaker 1: Tyson Beckford, and I'm guessing that's who he means, but
- 22:40Speaker 1: Beckford spells it t yso n so the spelling part
- 22:45Speaker 1: of the story remains a mystery. Now time for this
- 22:49Speaker 1: week's know the faux segment. The Autumn Wind is the
- 22:59Speaker 1: name of that iconic NFL film's anthem for the Raiders.
- 23:03Speaker 1: It includes the following lyrics. The Autumn Wind is a
- 23:08Speaker 1: Raider pillaging just for fun. They'll knock you round and
- 23:13Speaker 1: upside down and laugh when he's conquered than one. Well,
- 23:18Speaker 1: the Silver and Black have only conquered in one twice
- 23:22Speaker 1: in their first eight games this season, and their radio voice,
- 23:25Speaker 1: Jason Horowitz, joined lapping me this week on the Bengals
- 23:29Speaker 1: Game Plan show. I want to go back about a
- 23:34Speaker 1: week or so ago when the Raiders picked up former
- 23:36Speaker 1: UC Bearcat Desmond Ritter. We wondered if in time for
- 23:41Speaker 1: this game he might take over and be the starting quarterback.
- 23:43Speaker 1: But Gardner Minshew played well last week. I assume Gardner
- 23:47Speaker 1: Minshew's going to be the guy on Sunday. But where
- 23:50Speaker 1: do things stand at the quarterback position for the Raiders.
- 23:53Speaker 5: Well, well, a couple of things. Number one, Desmond, they
- 23:56Speaker 5: had a couple of plays for him. Unfortunately they didn't
- 23:59Speaker 5: get to run that because they you know, Gardner was
- 24:02Speaker 5: playing and he was playing well, but they ran in
- 24:05Speaker 5: Desmond Ridder on what it would have been on a
- 24:07Speaker 5: second and three, second and four on the plus side
- 24:10Speaker 5: of the field, and then Raiders had a false start
- 24:13Speaker 5: and they took Desmond right off the field. So they
- 24:16Speaker 5: had a plan, you know, four or five days after
- 24:18Speaker 5: signing him off to Cardinals practice squad to get him in.
- 24:21Speaker 5: I think if Gardner Minshew continues to turn the ball over,
- 24:25Speaker 5: we will see Desmond Ridder. You know, even though statistically
- 24:29Speaker 5: Gardner played one of his better games. He was eighty
- 24:32Speaker 5: percent last week two hundred yards to touch down one
- 24:35Speaker 5: hundred and sixteen or so qv rating, the reality is
- 24:39Speaker 5: he still had a turnover late in the ballgame that
- 24:42Speaker 5: cost the Raiders a chance to tie the game. And
- 24:46Speaker 5: he was also you know, leading an offense that was
- 24:48Speaker 5: first in goal on the Chiefs three after an interception
- 24:50Speaker 5: and they didn't score a point. So you know, statistically
- 24:53Speaker 5: there was some good stuff. But also he took five packs.
- 24:56Speaker 5: He's kind of been gun side. Turnover has been a problem,
- 24:58Speaker 5: so we may see different rhetor.
- 24:59Speaker 6: On well, no matter who the quarterback is, they get
- 25:03Speaker 6: a weapon in Bowers. I mean, this guy is as advertised.
- 25:07Speaker 6: I remember the Bengals were extremely high on him. I
- 25:09Speaker 6: think as was every all thirty two teams in the
- 25:12Speaker 6: National Football League. This guy is legit at Georgia, and
- 25:16Speaker 6: he certainly is proving himself to be legit in the
- 25:19Speaker 6: early stages of his rookie career. He's of his rookie season,
- 25:23Speaker 6: I should say, he's leading the NFL and catches. He's
- 25:27Speaker 6: number one obviously had catches with tight ends, number one
- 25:29Speaker 6: in yards at the tight end position, eleventh overall in yards.
- 25:32Speaker 6: I mean, this guy has been unbelievable. How many different
- 25:36Speaker 6: places have they lined him up or motioned them to
- 25:39Speaker 6: And the twelve yard rush that he has was that
- 25:42Speaker 6: was he in the backfield or did he come from
- 25:44Speaker 6: a slot wing back position to run it? How'd that unfold?
- 25:48Speaker 5: Yeah? Yeah, he was a wide receiver jet sweep, and
- 25:53Speaker 5: so they had it was the Cleveland game. I think
- 25:55Speaker 5: it was week four when Zamir White was out, and
- 25:59Speaker 5: at that point Raiders were fifty two yards a game
- 26:03Speaker 5: on the ground, worse than franchise history. It's for three
- 26:05Speaker 5: weeks and they literally handed the ball off to everybody
- 26:08Speaker 5: not named Jason Horwitz and Lincoln Kennedy. So and you know,
- 26:13Speaker 5: Lincoln said he was suit up and run running fly
- 26:15Speaker 5: steep himself. So let mean there's an opportunity there. But
- 26:18Speaker 5: you know, brocket five rushing touchdowns in college. He out
- 26:21Speaker 5: ran SEC defenders regularly. So he's the guy that can
- 26:25Speaker 5: line up anywhere. He does line up everywhere. It's not
- 26:28Speaker 5: very often he's in the backfield. A couple of plays
- 26:30Speaker 5: they'll they'll line them up, you know, as a fullback
- 26:32Speaker 5: or kind of an offset in the backfield. But he
- 26:35Speaker 5: is consistently motioning all over the place and trying to
- 26:39Speaker 5: get open. You know, there are lulls once in a
- 26:41Speaker 5: while where we're not able to get him the football
- 26:43Speaker 5: and I think that's kind of been a little bit
- 26:45Speaker 5: of a frustration for the coaching staff because you know,
- 26:48Speaker 5: he'll have i say, three catches in the first two
- 26:50Speaker 5: drives or four catches in the first quarter, and you
- 26:52Speaker 5: know they won't throw them the football again to the
- 26:53Speaker 5: fourth quarter. And so whether it's defense is taking that
- 26:57Speaker 5: away or you know, inability for garden minsure or whatever
- 27:00Speaker 5: it might be, that's something they're trying to figure it out.
- 27:02Speaker 5: So his consistency is there from start to finish in
- 27:04Speaker 5: the game.
- 27:05Speaker 6: Question, have you been able to notice or have you
- 27:08Speaker 6: heard any discussion postgame or whatever that an opponent had
- 27:12Speaker 6: a spy package or a shadow package and me and
- 27:15Speaker 6: my shadow wherever Bauers went, a defender, either a linebacker
- 27:18Speaker 6: or a safety or somebody was sure to follow. I mean,
- 27:22Speaker 6: did you have you seen any of that?
- 27:24Speaker 5: Well, there's been a little bit of that because remember,
- 27:26Speaker 5: you know, the DeVante Adams situation changed everything for the
- 27:31Speaker 5: Raiders offense. You know, you go into this year and
- 27:33Speaker 5: obviously the quarterback situation is unsettled, but you go in
- 27:37Speaker 5: and you still have DeVante Adams, who's a you know,
- 27:39Speaker 5: Hall of Fame type receiver. Jacobe Myers has been a
- 27:41Speaker 5: one and he's been very good for the Raiders, and
- 27:44Speaker 5: then you add rock power, so that so it's been
- 27:46Speaker 5: it was harder at least going in to make that
- 27:48Speaker 5: type of arrangement. But then you know DeVante wanted to
- 27:52Speaker 5: trade and had a hamstring injury and then was gone,
- 27:55Speaker 5: and Jacoby missed a couple of games with an ankle injury.
- 27:57Speaker 5: So yes, I would say a couple of time teams
- 28:00Speaker 5: have said that was hey, guy number one and really
- 28:03Speaker 5: their only concern. And yet even in those games, guys,
- 28:05Speaker 5: he still had nine to ten catches. I think he's
- 28:09Speaker 5: the I want to say he's the first rookie, either
- 28:11Speaker 5: tight end or player period to have eight or more
- 28:15Speaker 5: catches in three straight games a rookie. So I mean,
- 28:18Speaker 5: even within that, they've still been able to force him
- 28:21Speaker 5: the ball. But some of those catches are coming late
- 28:23Speaker 5: when they're you know, down fifty to twenty points and
- 28:25Speaker 5: almost irrelevant at the stat aspect of it.
- 28:27Speaker 6: Right.
- 28:28Speaker 1: The voice of the Raiders, Jason Horowitz is our guest.
- 28:30Speaker 1: Let's talk Max Crosby. Trey Hendrickson leads the Bengals with
- 28:34Speaker 1: seven sacks. Max is right behind him with six and
- 28:36Speaker 1: a half. I think Max missed the game this year.
- 28:39Speaker 1: What kind of a year is Max Crosby having.
- 28:42Speaker 5: Yeah, he's I mean he missed the Cleveland game. It
- 28:45Speaker 5: was the first time he's ever missed the game in
- 28:46Speaker 5: his entire career. Uh and the Raiders found a way
- 28:50Speaker 5: to win without him, which was which was pretty impressive
- 28:53Speaker 5: from a defensive standpoint. You know, he's having a very
- 28:57Speaker 5: great year. He's having a typical Max Rosby six and
- 29:00Speaker 5: a half, ten and a half tackles for loss, you know,
- 29:03Speaker 5: up towards the top of the NFL and all those categories.
- 29:06Speaker 5: You know, he disrupts a lot of plays. But in
- 29:09Speaker 5: saying that, you know, there have been a couple of
- 29:12Speaker 5: hals where teams have been able to control it a
- 29:15Speaker 5: little bit better than they would have last year. And
- 29:18Speaker 5: that I think is they're running away from him or
- 29:21Speaker 5: you know, getting a second or third guy on him.
- 29:23Speaker 5: You know, nobody has any success when they don't chip
- 29:27Speaker 5: or try to block him with a tight end, or
- 29:29Speaker 5: if they run away from him and they just believe
- 29:30Speaker 5: him alone because they get an extra blocker to they
- 29:32Speaker 5: never have success. And so it'll be interesting watching him
- 29:36Speaker 5: against you know, Amarius Mimus. This week, who is such
- 29:39Speaker 5: a young guy and not as experienced I think a
- 29:41Speaker 5: lot of rookies that come into the league. But the
- 29:43Speaker 5: other thing that the Raiders has done a really good
- 29:45Speaker 5: job of this year is they're lining up Max on
- 29:47Speaker 5: both sides. You know, my first year two years ago,
- 29:50Speaker 5: i'd say he was ninety five percent over the right tackle.
- 29:52Speaker 5: Last year is probably eighty twenty and this year it's
- 29:55Speaker 5: it's more of a crapshoot about which side he's lining
- 29:58Speaker 5: up on during the course of the game. So they're
- 30:00Speaker 5: getting him in spots to make havoc and he's doing
- 30:03Speaker 5: it as he always does.
- 30:05Speaker 6: Uh with your with respect to your defensive line, you're
- 30:08Speaker 6: missing a premier defensive tackle. I mean that that hurts
- 30:11Speaker 6: you obviously. In the former Bengals, Zach Carter is one
- 30:14Speaker 6: of the defensive tackles. How much burn is he getting
- 30:18Speaker 6: into rotation?
- 30:20Speaker 5: None?
- 30:21Speaker 6: Really?
- 30:21Speaker 5: You know when they signed him, yeah, he was inactive
- 30:23Speaker 5: this past weekend. He was a healthy They added him
- 30:26Speaker 5: to the active roster yeah, heading into last week and
- 30:30Speaker 5: then made him an active for the game itself. So
- 30:35Speaker 5: to this point, he hasn't taken a snap yet for
- 30:37Speaker 5: the Raiders. I'm not sure what will be the case
- 30:39Speaker 5: this weekend. My guess is he'll be active, but don't
- 30:41Speaker 5: know that for sure. You know, the crazy thing is, statistically,
- 30:46Speaker 5: Raiders defense this year has been a disappointment because you
- 30:49Speaker 5: go back to the last nine games last year when
- 30:50Speaker 5: Antonio Appears took over and Raiders had the number one
- 30:53Speaker 5: scoring defense in the NFL over that time period and
- 30:56Speaker 5: finished top ten for the year, and it was the
- 30:58Speaker 5: first time Raiders had finished top half in the NFL
- 31:01Speaker 5: since the Super Bowl year, which has been twenty years ago.
- 31:03Speaker 5: So it was that good.
- 31:05Speaker 1: Last year.
- 31:05Speaker 5: They added Christian Wilkins and everybody else returns, you assume
- 31:08Speaker 5: they'd be even better, and unfortunately, there's been so many
- 31:13Speaker 5: injuries between Marcus EPs going down for the year and
- 31:16Speaker 5: Malcolm Coots being lost for the year before the season
- 31:19Speaker 5: even started and Christian Wilkins, so there's been a lot there.
- 31:23Speaker 5: But I'd say this so the defense, even though the
- 31:26Speaker 5: points per game is up there, has played so well
- 31:30Speaker 5: in bad situations to keep this team in games. But
- 31:34Speaker 5: the offense has given up forty four points off of
- 31:37Speaker 5: turnovers over the last four weeks, and you just can't
- 31:39Speaker 5: win that way.
- 31:41Speaker 1: Jason Horowitz is our guest. We've mentioned Desmond Ritter, we
- 31:44Speaker 1: mentioned Zach Carter, we have not mentioned the most familiar
- 31:46Speaker 1: name of all, Marvin Lewis. What is Marvin's role on
- 31:50Speaker 1: the Raiders' staff.
- 31:52Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, Marvin's the associate head coach and was
- 31:55Speaker 5: brought in by AP. They knew each other at Arizona State,
- 31:58Speaker 5: among other places, and he brought him in to check
- 32:02Speaker 5: him to to be the guy to assist uh Antonio
- 32:07Speaker 5: peers as game day operations and working through being a
- 32:11Speaker 5: head coach. And you know he's not the only one.
- 32:13Speaker 5: Tom Coughlin's on staff, and Joe Philbin's been a head
- 32:15Speaker 5: coach in this league and he's an offensive analyst. So
- 32:18Speaker 5: there's guys on staff to help Antonio Piers because Antonio
- 32:22Speaker 5: told us the preseason he doesn't he doesn't want these
- 32:25Speaker 5: guys telling him what he's doing wrong on Monday after
- 32:29Speaker 5: the game went by on Sunday, you know, he wants
- 32:31Speaker 5: Marvin and those guys telling him what he should be
- 32:34Speaker 5: doing in game if they're noticing things. So so Marvin
- 32:36Speaker 5: is an ear to bounce off of. Marvin is a
- 32:38Speaker 5: guy to help him as a head coach and and
- 32:40Speaker 5: and message with the players, and and and he is
- 32:43Speaker 5: a big part of that, uh, with with that experience
- 32:45Speaker 5: that Antonio Piers is trying to get.
- 32:48Speaker 6: You know, I got confirmation about Crosby by looking at
- 32:54Speaker 6: the press release. He got twelve pages on the on
- 32:57Speaker 6: the release from the from the Raiders, twelve pages defensive end.
- 33:01Speaker 6: And I'm looking at Okay Bowers as well as he
- 33:03Speaker 6: only got four you know in Bowers's lifetime. Yeah, he's
- 33:06Speaker 6: and the quarterback Minshew, you know he's got like three
- 33:08Speaker 6: or four. Crosby twelve pages, and I mean it's it's impressive.
- 33:12Speaker 6: His his Uh how much.
- 33:15Speaker 5: Of that do you have memorized? You got most of
- 33:16Speaker 5: your head? Or is that going to go in one
- 33:19Speaker 5: ear and out the other.
- 33:20Speaker 6: It's pretty it's pretty crazy.
- 33:21Speaker 1: It's eight pages memorized to lap them.
- 33:23Speaker 6: It's pretty impressive. The one thing that statistically is a
- 33:27Speaker 6: former offensive lineman that kind of intrigues me. Twenty six
- 33:30Speaker 6: straight games with a sack, that's that's fourth best in
- 33:33Speaker 6: the NFL. I mean, they they are consistently production in
- 33:36Speaker 6: that area, aren't they.
- 33:37Speaker 5: Yeah, the team is and and that's why you know,
- 33:40Speaker 5: with the Max Crosby thinking, and he deserves all the
- 33:42Speaker 5: accolades he gets, you know, his energy, his production, what
- 33:45Speaker 5: he does for the other guys on the front step.
- 33:47Speaker 5: There's no question Max deserves everything that's been given to
- 33:51Speaker 5: him as a guy who was a fourth round pick
- 33:52Speaker 5: out of Eastern Michigan and you know, really burst onto
- 33:55Speaker 5: the scene right right from the get go, and you know,
- 33:58Speaker 5: off the field stuff that you're living the life of
- 33:59Speaker 5: her and things that he's so vocal about too. And
- 34:02Speaker 5: you know now big in the media with his podcast
- 34:04Speaker 5: and and let's go with Jim Grayham series exam so
- 34:07Speaker 5: you know, he's big on a lot of different fronts
- 34:09Speaker 5: and and very vocal about wanting to stay with the Raiders.
- 34:11Speaker 5: As there's been you know, aspects of of this trade
- 34:15Speaker 5: talk over the last couple of weeks. But I would
- 34:17Speaker 5: say this, you know, one of the things that's been impressive.
- 34:19Speaker 5: And this is just my third year with this organization,
- 34:21Speaker 5: and the defense two years ago was really bad, guys
- 34:24Speaker 5: like really bad. Last year, you got some of those
- 34:27Speaker 5: names that nobody talks about really coming to the forefront
- 34:31Speaker 5: and playing well. And it's happening again this year. And
- 34:34Speaker 5: you know, Roberts Fulane is a big part of that.
- 34:36Speaker 5: The middle linebacker who came over from Pittsburgh who you know,
- 34:39Speaker 5: it didn't really have a lot of people chasing after
- 34:41Speaker 5: him when he was a free agent couple of years ago.
- 34:42Speaker 5: But man, it's he been awesome, uh, for this team
- 34:45Speaker 5: and along the front seven. You know, Adam Butler's kind
- 34:48Speaker 5: of been a journeyman Patriots and Dolphins, but he has
- 34:51Speaker 5: played so well and his energy is beating off of
- 34:54Speaker 5: Max Crosby, and you know, they're starting to get some
- 34:56Speaker 5: stuff from Tyree Wilson, the number seven pick last year.
- 34:59Speaker 5: He u you know, statistically it doesn't jump off of you,
- 35:02Speaker 5: but there's a lot of plays where he's been really close.
- 35:05Speaker 5: He sacked Patrick Mahomes last week. He had another play
- 35:08Speaker 5: where he forced Patrick throw it out of bounds, chasing
- 35:10Speaker 5: him down. So he started to come along too on
- 35:12Speaker 5: the opposite side, which is really helping the back end
- 35:15Speaker 5: because our back end, again, not a lot of names
- 35:18Speaker 5: back there, right, There's not a got bunch of guys
- 35:19Speaker 5: on the defensive secondary who people around the NFL know,
- 35:23Speaker 5: But they played so well and obviously there's credit to
- 35:27Speaker 5: the front seven.
- 35:27Speaker 6: For that Splaine. How bad is that knee injury?
- 35:31Speaker 3: Did?
- 35:31Speaker 6: He didn't practice today? The two guys that didn't go,
- 35:34Speaker 6: James didn't go. The center didn't go with an ankle injury,
- 35:37Speaker 6: and he didn't go with a knee injury.
- 35:40Speaker 5: Yeah, you know, it's interesting with Andre James. You know,
- 35:42Speaker 5: a lot of money went to different centers around the
- 35:46Speaker 5: NFL in this offseason and Andre James is a free
- 35:48Speaker 5: agent and they re signed him to a three year,
- 35:51Speaker 5: I want to say, twenty four million dollar deal, which
- 35:53Speaker 5: was a lot less than what a lot of guys
- 35:55Speaker 5: around the league got. Because he has played, he has
- 35:57Speaker 5: been a bellcoal for this team for the last few years.
- 35:59Speaker 5: He has struggled this year, and I wonder when they
- 36:02Speaker 5: drafted Jackson Powers Johnson in the second round out of Oregon,
- 36:05Speaker 5: who's been our starting guard the last five weeks. I
- 36:08Speaker 5: wonder how much thought they were having him play center,
- 36:10Speaker 5: because he was the Roomingtod Trophy last season right as
- 36:13Speaker 5: a best center in college football. But it was really
- 36:16Speaker 5: the first time he'd ever played center. And so it's
- 36:19Speaker 5: interesting that if if in fact Andre James can't go,
- 36:23Speaker 5: they have someone who has that accolade maybe slide over
- 36:27Speaker 5: and play center. Roberts Blaine's injury happened towards the end
- 36:30Speaker 5: and he got rolled up on and you know, was
- 36:32Speaker 5: helped off the field. He did come back after the
- 36:35Speaker 5: injury last week, so you know, obviously he was able
- 36:38Speaker 5: to play beyond that, but he would be a big loss.
- 36:41Speaker 5: He is with Max Crosby, the epicenter of this defense
- 36:45Speaker 5: and the guy who is just cleaning up everything and
- 36:48Speaker 5: he comes on blitz this. He's got four picks since
- 36:50Speaker 5: the start of last year. He's a tackling machine. I
- 36:53Speaker 5: think I think he's number six heading into this week
- 36:55Speaker 5: and tackles in the NFL. So he really has been everywhere.
- 36:58Speaker 5: So him not being there if he can't play Thunder
- 37:00Speaker 5: big one right, thanks.
