- 3:42Speaker 4: Doctor Chincerrah of us Speaks, LLC, and a new parent legacy.
- 3:48Speaker 4: As much as we keep moving this forward, part of
- 3:51Speaker 4: what we're going to be sharing tonight is going to
- 3:54Speaker 4: be an extension of conversations more correctly life centered discussions
- 4:01Speaker 4: and sharings around new women rising, some of the initiatives
- 4:04Speaker 4: we've done with women girls, grandmothers, mothers, aunties, sisters over
- 4:11Speaker 4: the course of years, as well as listening to some
- 4:14Speaker 4: of the current activities programs efforts that are being reduced
- 4:19Speaker 4: not only here in Saint Croix, but throughout the Virgin Islands,
- 4:24Speaker 4: throughout the wider Caribbean, as well as throughout the forty
- 4:28Speaker 4: eight contiguous US, Africa, Eurasia, actually the globe. And we're
- 4:33Speaker 4: looking forward to being able to have our invited guests
- 4:37Speaker 4: that are coming from different parts of this region to
- 4:40Speaker 4: share with us. Just would like to give some context
- 4:44Speaker 4: for those persons that have family in Saint Kitts Nevas
- 4:48Speaker 4: which halfy Independence Day forty First, if I'm correct, I
- 4:55Speaker 4: think it's important to highlight the independence efforts that have
- 4:59Speaker 4: taken place around the globe and that some of our
- 5:02Speaker 4: sistern and brethren from spaces as small but Taloa like
- 5:09Speaker 4: Saint Kitts Nevus are actually celebrating this day, September nineteenth.
- 5:14Speaker 4: In that regard, I think it's also very critical, very
- 5:17Speaker 4: important to also look at the fact that there have
- 5:20Speaker 4: been these different declarations, these different convenings, whether they're happening
- 5:26Speaker 4: in the United Nations as we speak during this particular week,
- 5:29Speaker 4: as well as certain other activities that are really bringing
- 5:33Speaker 4: some truth to power in regards to how we begin
- 5:37Speaker 4: to look at different opportunities around how we facilitate women
- 5:44Speaker 4: working together, collaborating, building together, engaged in entrepreneurial activities. So,
- 5:51Speaker 4: for those that may not be familiar, how many of
- 5:54Speaker 4: you are really into intergenerational wealth, how many of us
- 6:01Speaker 4: are really about wealth building for our families and other
- 6:06Speaker 4: families that we care about that we'd like to support.
- 6:10Speaker 3: Here in Saint.
- 6:11Speaker 4: Croix, we have some special activities happening as current as
- 6:16Speaker 4: this weekend to really begin to have these types of
- 6:20Speaker 4: discussions and presentations around informing persons on opportunities for wealth buildings.
- 6:25Speaker 4: But we will get to that a little later in
- 6:28Speaker 4: the broadcast. With that being said, and I like to
- 6:31Speaker 4: get to the start and the thick of things in
- 6:34Speaker 4: the beginning, I'd like to ask our engineer to bring
- 6:37Speaker 4: in our guests that are with us at this point, and.
- 6:41Speaker 3: IO then begin to introduce them.
- 6:45Speaker 4: Greetings, greetings, So Tep and Prestonia, are you caring us well?
- 6:53Speaker 4: Are you able to turn on your sound? Uh? Oh,
- 6:59Speaker 4: we're having difficulty hearing you. And you're right there, and say, John,
- 7:04Speaker 4: we're not We're not far, You're not far. I just
- 7:09Speaker 4: need for you to turn on your audio. You might
- 7:13Speaker 4: have you might be mute. Okay, we're happy hear me now.
- 7:21Speaker 4: I sure can thank you very good.
- 7:23Speaker 3: That's what we need.
- 7:24Speaker 4: And I know that you need to plan, but just
- 7:26Speaker 4: know that that I might have to seer. I know
- 7:30Speaker 4: it's hot, but I want to thank you us from
- 7:33Speaker 4: the Isle of Saint. I know it's like I got
- 7:37Speaker 4: through leading no, but I'm really am grateful to have
- 7:41Speaker 4: you join us, coming from your entrepreneurial space of trendy Lione.
- 7:47Speaker 3: And for those that are not as familiar sister Queen Empress.
- 7:56Speaker 4: You'll see loyal Ebba here, but we know here it's
- 7:59Speaker 4: Empress Yea in the neighboring island of here in the
- 8:04Speaker 4: Virgin Island. So remember there's Saint Croix where where I'm
- 8:08Speaker 4: at now, between us Saint Thomas and then a horsewater
- 8:12Speaker 4: island near Saint Thomas and our love city. One of
- 8:18Speaker 4: the largest national park spaces in the Virgin Islands is
- 8:23Speaker 4: in Saint John. So I'm very grateful to be able
- 8:26Speaker 4: to introduce and have you on this broadcast, to be
- 8:29Speaker 4: able to share with us differents of information, culture, history,
- 8:34Speaker 4: heritage and a little bit well building in business from
- 8:38Speaker 4: the island of Saint John's. So with that, I'd like
- 8:40Speaker 4: for you to just share with some of our listeners
- 8:43Speaker 4: and viewers a little bit about your business as well
- 8:46Speaker 4: as a little bit about you.
- 8:48Speaker 1: My name is Tonya Severla Torell born in Puerto Rico,
- 8:54Speaker 1: residing in Saint John.
- 8:56Speaker 3: Mother of three. I currently work with the seniors.
- 9:00Speaker 1: On Saint John, but I have a hobby and design,
- 9:04Speaker 1: hence Trendy Lion is cousor.
- 9:06Speaker 3: I do.
- 9:08Speaker 1: T shirts pretty much, graphics, custom shoes. I have about
- 9:15Speaker 1: forty pair out of custom Italian shoes.
- 9:19Speaker 3: On my live site. I do VII products.
- 9:23Speaker 1: I customize T shirts, anything of that, so mugs, you know, swimsuits,
- 9:28Speaker 1: you name it, anything you need from top to bottom
- 9:31Speaker 1: my budget. I could do your business, home decor, you
- 9:37Speaker 1: name it. T shirts for your how do I say
- 9:41Speaker 1: basketball teams, school events, stuff like that. I also hence
- 9:47Speaker 1: Royal Abiba the name. I'm a vegan cook.
- 9:51Speaker 3: I do catering.
- 9:52Speaker 1: I haven't really done anything in a while, but I've
- 9:57Speaker 1: been focusing on the design.
- 10:00Speaker 3: But that's my love, you know. I'd like to create.
- 10:03Speaker 1: So food is a passion. So I create in the kitchen,
- 10:06Speaker 1: but I work with the seniors. I've been taking a
- 10:08Speaker 1: break and trying to sleep. Other than being up twenty
- 10:12Speaker 1: four hours, seventy two hours. Anybody that knows me know
- 10:16Speaker 1: I'll be up for days.
- 10:18Speaker 3: I need to sleep. I thought I was sleep. The
- 10:21Speaker 3: phone rings, I'm up. Oh I gotta get on. So
- 10:23Speaker 3: I'm here right right.
- 10:25Speaker 4: Well, it's a joint of privilege because I want I'd
- 10:29Speaker 4: like to come to some things. I'm really grateful that
- 10:32Speaker 4: you shared what your hobby is. That that is a
- 10:35Speaker 4: hobby that has an entrepreneurial piece to it because please
- 10:39Speaker 4: make sure to put your site inside the chat so
- 10:42Speaker 4: we can also share that. When you put it in comments,
- 10:44Speaker 4: it also populates inside of the Crew podcast platform and
- 10:50Speaker 4: that way other persons can see it. I think it's
- 10:52Speaker 4: important to share that. I also like to highlight that
- 10:56Speaker 4: when she's when Everstonians saying that she works with the seniors,
- 11:01Speaker 4: I think we need to be very clear and very specific.
- 11:04Speaker 4: She really admits her life drink to providing educational social
- 11:13Speaker 4: interaction trips to the beach, some of the most beautiful
- 11:18Speaker 4: beaches in Saint John I must have for our seniors
- 11:23Speaker 4: many times are relegated to just staying in their home,
- 11:26Speaker 4: perhaps doing something just inside and so at the multi
- 11:31Speaker 4: purpose room space at Saint Arthul's Church and Court, with
- 11:36Speaker 4: support from Sports and Recreation of the Government of the
- 11:40Speaker 4: Virgin Islands and just other entities in Saint John, she
- 11:46Speaker 4: has been able to really provide some elder engagement, you know,
- 11:53Speaker 4: amongst the elders, so that they do have opportunities to
- 11:57Speaker 4: do storytelling and crafts and they do have an opportunity
- 12:00Speaker 4: to share some of the history of the legacy of
- 12:03Speaker 4: Saint John as well as the wider Caribbean and American
- 12:07Speaker 4: journeys and spaces that they've had. I'm saying it's because
- 12:10Speaker 4: I've had the joint privilege of being around some of
- 12:12Speaker 4: them when I visit Saint John and the wealth of knowledge,
- 12:18Speaker 4: the amount of wisdom that is shared and gathered is amazing.
- 12:24Speaker 3: Plus they're funny. I just want to highlight that this
- 12:26Speaker 3: is like their own humor side.
- 12:29Speaker 4: There's a lot that's really shared in some of these conversations,
- 12:33Speaker 4: so that we can really begin to learn about how
- 12:37Speaker 4: do we deal with intergenerational engagement amongst the men and
- 12:44Speaker 4: women who are in their senior giveness and sometimes nowadays.
- 12:50Speaker 3: Senior is just over fifty.
- 12:52Speaker 4: But we're talking about those seas and Elvis that Empress
- 12:57Speaker 4: Tonia has a lifelong commitment for and I need to highlight,
- 13:02Speaker 4: and it's coming from a legacy even from her mother,
- 13:06Speaker 4: just a mother younder who had worked there how many
- 13:11Speaker 4: years thirty somethings thirty one?
- 13:15Speaker 3: Oh okay, So that's how there we're go. There we go.
- 13:19Speaker 4: And I think it's important to know that this legacy
- 13:22Speaker 4: of helping building, working with elders, providing a variety of
- 13:31Speaker 4: opportunities and services with them for them, it's really important,
- 13:35Speaker 4: you know, so I really would love thank you for
- 13:37Speaker 4: sharing that particular part. And then what are some of
- 13:40Speaker 4: the what are some of the actual pieces that you
- 13:46Speaker 4: would like to share around some of the work that
- 13:48Speaker 4: you're doing or some of.
- 13:49Speaker 3: The future ideas that you have in place in Saint
- 13:53Speaker 3: John's Emperor Son.
- 13:56Speaker 1: Well, currently, our seniors, I guess, have been misplaced from
- 14:02Speaker 1: their current location, which would have been the Saint Ursula's Church,
- 14:08Speaker 1: but due to the hurricanes years ago, the building still
- 14:11Speaker 1: hasn't been prepared.
- 14:13Speaker 3: So we are at Parking Recreations.
- 14:15Speaker 1: And I'm thankful for having the space, and when we're
- 14:19Speaker 1: not able to be there, we're at Bethany Moravian Church
- 14:23Speaker 1: during the summer times. So I'm thankful that the community
- 14:27Speaker 1: has been able to shelter us and provide us space
- 14:33Speaker 1: being at the park and Recreations, they have adopted us.
- 14:39Speaker 1: I will give a shout out to them with that
- 14:41Speaker 1: they have given us nothing of love. That they even
- 14:45Speaker 1: gave us a name for the team. And it's called
- 14:48Speaker 1: the Saint Ursula's Fit and Feisty Crew. Okay, so when
- 14:54Speaker 1: you hear that term, that's where that comes from. That
- 14:57Speaker 1: Fit and Feisty is there's a young I'm by the
- 15:00Speaker 1: name of Isaiah Thomas, and a young lady by the
- 15:05Speaker 1: name of Roshaw. No let me get right, I call
- 15:09Speaker 1: her role but her last name is Pharaoh. I kind
- 15:16Speaker 1: of remember your full name, Rome, Ronique or Ronie.
- 15:22Speaker 3: There it is. It's so beautiful. So Rone and Acito Isaiah,
- 15:29Speaker 3: they come and they work out the seniors.
- 15:32Speaker 1: They have an exercise class with them on Wednesdays, and
- 15:36Speaker 1: then that's why we go to the beach on Thursdays,
- 15:39Speaker 1: so you know, relax. So we pick the fit and
- 15:44Speaker 1: feisty crew because they are very active, loving, joyous bunch
- 15:51Speaker 1: and they are fit and feisty, they're ready to go.
- 15:54Speaker 3: And I'm the youngest of the bunch and they're ones that, okay.
- 15:58Speaker 1: Now do me and how much at forty five there
- 16:01Speaker 1: are people that are you know, have way above men
- 16:05Speaker 1: getting down a load and I can't get downe there anymore.
- 16:09Speaker 3: Fet FEISTI is very right.
- 16:11Speaker 8: So with us.
- 16:15Speaker 1: Being able to be taken to the beach or any
- 16:18Speaker 1: other extra curricular activities for the month, especially May month
- 16:22Speaker 1: is senior month, so that's why you'll be seeing us
- 16:25Speaker 1: out and about for the month the duration doing different things.
- 16:29Speaker 3: But each month I'm trying to see if.
- 16:32Speaker 1: We can put together some stuff with yourself where we
- 16:34Speaker 1: can incorporate some fundraising for our seniors because we don't
- 16:38Speaker 1: currently have transportation to get them around, you know, so
- 16:42Speaker 1: it's kind of limited mobility. So we just you know,
- 16:46Speaker 1: take it easy to go to the beach on a Thursday,
- 16:48Speaker 1: but if there's something that needs to be the other
- 16:51Speaker 1: center reaches that we all go.
- 16:53Speaker 3: So we do get out, but we would like to
- 16:55Speaker 3: raise funds to purchase a van in order to be
- 16:59Speaker 3: able to transport the seniors.
- 17:01Speaker 1: About I don't even mind if they donated to. Basically
- 17:07Speaker 1: it's for the church, it's for the seniors. So it's
- 17:09Speaker 1: like I just thought of to me, everything now has
- 17:12Speaker 1: become to meet Parks and Rec because they're a new home.
- 17:15Speaker 1: So it's like donated to parks and Rec because their
- 17:18Speaker 1: van is currently down. Why that came home, so they're
- 17:24Speaker 1: going through you know, fixing their you know where and tear.
- 17:28Speaker 1: They're taking care of the seniors.
- 17:30Speaker 3: And the youths so to that.
- 17:33Speaker 1: So I've seen that van run around for the tournaments basketball, baseball,
- 17:38Speaker 1: and the seniors. So the vans are being used, not
- 17:42Speaker 1: just sitting around. So I can understand where in tear.
- 17:45Speaker 1: So it's like, okay, we do need our own transportation
- 17:48Speaker 1: because our Human services senior buses going through its changes too.
- 17:52Speaker 3: So you know, for a number of years.
- 17:57Speaker 1: We've spoke of about doing things, but not to me.
- 18:00Speaker 1: I realized I myself, as my dad would say, if
- 18:03Speaker 1: I live long enough to see senior age, you know,
- 18:08Speaker 1: be a pleasure to be able to be treated with
- 18:10Speaker 1: such honor and respect as my mother has shown me.
- 18:12Speaker 3: That's why I could give it back to them.
- 18:14Speaker 1: So I'm like, well, I would like to see you
- 18:17Speaker 1: guys sit in a nice ac bust and taking you
- 18:19Speaker 1: all over the place.
- 18:20Speaker 3: You know you could drive, because I know you can
- 18:22Speaker 3: drive anything. But you know why I said that.
- 18:27Speaker 1: If anybody doesn't know, Doctor Ken and I go way, way, way,
- 18:31Speaker 1: way way back. I met her when I was giving
- 18:35Speaker 1: birth to my first kid in two thousand and six
- 18:38Speaker 1: is when he was born, So you know, this is
- 18:40Speaker 1: my godmother's big system. I love mother, you know, like
- 18:44Speaker 1: nothing but love and respect. So I've seen her in action.
- 18:47Speaker 1: I know what she's capable of. So for her to
- 18:50Speaker 1: say she was honored to join us, it's honored to me.
- 18:53Speaker 1: So I'm looking forward to working with her to do
- 18:55Speaker 1: more culture programs with the seniors.
- 18:58Speaker 2: Dance.
- 18:58Speaker 1: It's a thing that I know you do storytelling. I
- 19:01Speaker 1: want you to record their stories and I've let them
- 19:06Speaker 1: know to look out for you. So they're you know,
- 19:09Speaker 1: excited to know that people do still care about them.
- 19:13Speaker 3: So that's why it's like to be able to come
- 19:16Speaker 3: out here and speak on them.
- 19:18Speaker 1: There's a bigger, bigger, bigger project, like a ten million
- 19:21Speaker 1: dollar project out in the future that we could talk about.
- 19:27Speaker 3: When Doc sees fit. So my seniors they look forward
- 19:34Speaker 3: to taking trips, they look forward to taking the island tours.
- 19:38Speaker 3: They like to be treated.
- 19:39Speaker 1: So if anyone would love to sponsor at least two
- 19:44Speaker 1: dozen seniors, because my center is a Saint Ursula Senior
- 19:49Speaker 1: Center and we have sometimes for the summer, I could
- 19:54Speaker 1: drop down to ten and the maximum could be eighteen
- 19:58Speaker 1: in season that attend uh full raster when everyone's now
- 20:07Speaker 1: a few that are like I call them snowbirds. They
- 20:09Speaker 1: come in and out. So we have that much for
- 20:13Speaker 1: mine and if I add an Adrian, we have at
- 20:15Speaker 1: least thirty plus seniors on island that engage and commune
- 20:21Speaker 1: and have function and you know, devotion, and.
- 20:27Speaker 3: Eating events.
- 20:28Speaker 1: I call it eating events because it's always nice for
- 20:31Speaker 1: them to be treating to a nice seminar health, wellness, fitness.
- 20:38Speaker 3: Make sure.
- 20:40Speaker 4: Exactly and that's what I want to do.
- 20:42Speaker 3: I can say that I enjoy saying.
- 20:47Speaker 4: The conversations that they have, the old talk they go to,
- 20:52Speaker 4: some old talk in regard that they're growing up and woke.
- 20:57Speaker 4: Saint John, Saint Thomas, you look like you know what
- 21:01Speaker 4: used to happen in what we now know this Burgen
- 21:05Speaker 4: Islands of the West, but speak of it of a
- 21:08Speaker 4: time where the population was smaller, when persons didn't have
- 21:12Speaker 4: to lock their doors, right, when crimes were very few
- 21:18Speaker 4: and far between. And it's right, and it's great to
- 21:22Speaker 4: hear some of some of the songs they sing, some
- 21:25Speaker 4: of the prayers they it seemed like one person start
- 21:28Speaker 4: a particular scripture and the rest is like a choir
- 21:31Speaker 4: in the middle. And you know that can be while
- 21:34Speaker 4: you're activity in town in Brisbane, or if you're at
- 21:38Speaker 4: one of the wonderful beach sites that they get a
- 21:41Speaker 4: chance to go to. And what I love is that
- 21:44Speaker 4: some of us, this is how you know a senior
- 21:47Speaker 4: they know how to come to the beach slide in
- 21:51Speaker 4: the wads change as they come up on the rocks.
- 21:54Speaker 3: And be dry by the time they come INSTA don't right.
- 21:58Speaker 3: I have to share that because I and I'm like
- 22:02Speaker 3: you talking about and then put exactly exactly.
- 22:08Speaker 4: Exactly, and we sit back and I'm like, I just
- 22:11Speaker 4: went in a while to have to dry up, bring towel, blanket.
- 22:18Speaker 3: So I said, Senor is very very agile.
- 22:22Speaker 4: For sure.
- 22:25Speaker 3: I send here from ABC down to home depot. Mmmm mmmm.
- 22:31Speaker 4: That's why I'm saying, fits, what do you say fits?
- 22:34Speaker 3: And what fit Andy? There we go fit and iy.
- 22:39Speaker 4: I think it's important to speak in that regard of
- 22:42Speaker 4: how person really get an opportunity. I'm going to remind
- 22:46Speaker 4: you again to please put the website for you're what
- 22:52Speaker 4: you're calling hobby but has an economic connected to it.
- 22:56Speaker 3: I would appreciate that.
- 22:57Speaker 4: And my saying, my my seeing my granddaughter's hand, Okay,
- 23:01Speaker 4: greetings by royalty. Okay, so this is Princess's royalty and
- 23:08Speaker 4: she's a joy acted. That would be a whole of
- 23:11Speaker 4: the talk show. Believe me, that would be a whole
- 23:13Speaker 4: of the talk So we're going to prepare her for
- 23:16Speaker 4: those things in the future, not tonight. Per se because
- 23:19Speaker 4: we go where this mother before we get off, and
- 23:24Speaker 4: we do have a time limit, but I definitely would
- 23:26Speaker 4: love to encourage you to keep sharing with the seniors
- 23:32Speaker 4: in Saint John if you work with you know the love,
- 23:35Speaker 4: the care, the respect that is afforded to them. You know,
- 23:38Speaker 4: we're really working in a in a collaborative course to
- 23:43Speaker 4: see how we can have different members around our regional
- 23:48Speaker 4: international community to offer some forms of support, because this
- 23:52Speaker 4: is something that is always important. We say so many times,
- 23:56Speaker 4: we say the youth of our future, and we need
- 23:58Speaker 4: to respect our elderly and then when the opportunity comes
- 24:02Speaker 4: to do so, we need to work on that restoration
- 24:07Speaker 4: of our humanity. So thank you for sharing that, because
- 24:12Speaker 4: what you have here, I'm going to put this on
- 24:14Speaker 4: the chat so that persons can see that, so that
- 24:17Speaker 4: they can actually follow on Instagram.
- 24:25Speaker 3: O beautiful. Thank you, because I think it's important to
- 24:29Speaker 3: have that available.
- 24:30Speaker 4: Because persons always desire when we're having these types of
- 24:35Speaker 4: podcasts for us to be able to you know, how
- 24:37Speaker 4: do you connect with persons, how do you engage with people?
- 24:39Speaker 4: And we always speak to that. I'd like to give
- 24:42Speaker 4: a moment of reflection as well, because we have been.
- 24:47Speaker 4: You know, I do a variety of different things, as
- 24:50Speaker 4: Prestonia has shared, and part of my work is to
- 24:54Speaker 4: really navigate how do we engage culture, healing, arts, tech,
- 25:00Speaker 4: knowledge and spirituality that actually supports life, inspiration.
- 25:05Speaker 3: Freedom and edification.
- 25:06Speaker 4: And I'm some people will just say education, that's part
- 25:09Speaker 4: of it, but we're looking for people to really edify,
- 25:13Speaker 4: to add that spiritual grounding, that spiritual context.
- 25:16Speaker 3: Thank you so much.
- 25:17Speaker 4: See people who starting to already populate your other places.
- 25:20Speaker 4: They can find you on Facebook as well, So thank
- 25:23Speaker 4: you very much for that. Sister Queen like no other
- 25:26Speaker 4: angela who is the CEO, the other element that really
- 25:32Speaker 4: makes all of what through podcasts, you know, making this
- 25:35Speaker 4: platform available for us. And I think that it's important
- 25:39Speaker 4: that persons also recognize that when you hear me say
- 25:43Speaker 4: New Woman Rising, this is not like just the saying
- 25:47Speaker 4: it is actually a project. Well, it started as a
- 25:51Speaker 4: project and then ended up becoming more of a movement
- 25:54Speaker 4: so that we were able to find ways to edify
- 25:58Speaker 4: and engage in chats, culture, healing, our technology, spirituality that
- 26:02Speaker 4: uplifted women and girls. It started through a health initiative
- 26:07Speaker 4: to just get people to get our sisters, our daughters,
- 26:11Speaker 4: our nieces, our granddaughters, our mothers, our grandmothers, our aunties,
- 26:18Speaker 4: to take their help and their wellness more seriously and
- 26:21Speaker 4: not just wait until a crisis to then deal with
- 26:24Speaker 4: their health and their wellness.
- 26:25Speaker 3: You know, we started with birth things that you were
- 26:27Speaker 3: hearing and Tonia.
- 26:28Speaker 4: Speak about that and offering helpful to make sure the
- 26:31Speaker 4: birthings were safe. It was around persons minimizing any type
- 26:36Speaker 4: of external peace, you know, make sure that we dealt
- 26:38Speaker 4: with our personal care to the best of our ability,
- 26:42Speaker 4: that we ate the most nutritious foods right. And granted
- 26:46Speaker 4: many of us are vegans, some are vegetarian, but even
- 26:50Speaker 4: if you're not, to just make sure that whatever you're
- 26:52Speaker 4: eating is of the best, most organic or at least
- 26:57Speaker 4: sustainable quality possible. Try not to eat the trash that
- 27:02Speaker 4: will actually dismant to your body system. So New Woman
- 27:05Speaker 4: Rising became. It came out of like a health and
- 27:09Speaker 4: wellness piece, and then it started looking at how persons
- 27:12Speaker 4: engaged in wealth building, how people dealt with intergeneration of wealth,
- 27:15Speaker 4: how persons began to market things in their respective community,
- 27:19Speaker 4: and how do we begin to you know, have collaborations
- 27:23Speaker 4: that help us grow help us strengthen one another as
- 27:27Speaker 4: women and really moving that forward and navigating in a
- 27:31Speaker 4: way that was respectful and that was grounded in spiritual upliftment.
- 27:37Speaker 3: Spiritual I'm gonna keep saying that spiritual.
- 27:40Speaker 4: Upliftment so that persons, regardless of what your practice is
- 27:45Speaker 4: or was, that you can work together and build one
- 27:48Speaker 4: another up. And so that was part of the whole initiative,
- 27:52Speaker 4: and that was something that was really I mean, it's
- 27:55Speaker 4: been in the making over twenty years. We have opportunity
- 27:59Speaker 4: to do certain things with the US Department of Helping
- 28:02Speaker 4: Human Services that became so effective that even the funding
- 28:06Speaker 4: they were like, you don't need that company for this,
- 28:09Speaker 4: because it became very effective of us going into every
- 28:12Speaker 4: school in our community throughout Saint Croid, St. Thomas, Thank John,
- 28:20Speaker 4: And that was part of the way that we were
- 28:22Speaker 4: able to start to strengthen some of our relationships. I
- 28:24Speaker 4: encouraged persons, you know, share when you hear us talk
- 28:28Speaker 4: about new Women Rising and it's a simple hashtag. You know,
- 28:31Speaker 4: it's just a hashtag of new Women Rising and people
- 28:33Speaker 4: are like, not any w we say, and you right,
- 28:38Speaker 4: new woman Rising. The whole idea is for us to
- 28:40Speaker 4: bring that vibration together and move forward, because this is
- 28:45Speaker 4: a time where our women, our girls are under a
- 28:50Speaker 4: significant amount of trauma and so a lot of our
- 28:54Speaker 4: engagement is to lessen the trauma, to be able to mitigate,
- 29:01Speaker 4: ease the trauma, and of course to find different techniques
- 29:05Speaker 4: and strategy, you know, forms of therapeutics, engagements, activities that
- 29:11Speaker 4: helps heal the trauma, like really deal with trauma, and
- 29:16Speaker 4: so doing things with elders because you know, elders will
- 29:20Speaker 4: tell you their experiences in a way that can really
- 29:24Speaker 4: support support feeling. Man, I always like the way they
- 29:29Speaker 4: say it, but why are you doing? Smile and left.
- 29:34Speaker 4: But they're gonna get you, especially when they love and
- 29:38Speaker 4: care for you and they see that you are fancy
- 29:41Speaker 4: respect and care for them.
- 29:43Speaker 3: Notice that person word respect and care for them.
- 29:46Speaker 4: They will bring it full circle in a way that
- 29:49Speaker 4: may provide some support and engagement. Right.
- 29:52Speaker 3: So with that being inspect about, you know, I decided
- 29:55Speaker 3: I get excited. I get right.
- 29:58Speaker 1: I'm literally I've you know, many of those seniors since
- 30:02Speaker 1: I was a little girl in elementary.
- 30:05Speaker 3: I have my like I think fourth grade teacher.
- 30:08Speaker 1: Is ms Hyman, Missus Surrendo's daughter was my seventh grade
- 30:13Speaker 1: math teacher, so in some way I'm affiliated and have
- 30:18Speaker 1: known or like, you know, my last daughter's great great
- 30:23Speaker 1: uncle is mister Penn, so it's like, hello, I've known him,
- 30:28Speaker 1: especially mister Penn Gaffard.
- 30:32Speaker 3: Oh, I love that guy. I've known him ever since
- 30:35Speaker 3: I was a kid. And it's like, since I've started
- 30:38Speaker 3: working with them, I never even heard him talk. I
- 30:42Speaker 3: never knew it was so funny. So it's honored to
- 30:45Speaker 3: be amongst them. So none but respect for that. Yeah,
- 30:50Speaker 3: well that's a car mind.
- 30:50Speaker 4: Know, I know that we have some things to really
- 30:55Speaker 4: chat about and to really look into, and that's why
- 30:59Speaker 4: some of the pieces, like even you know, speaking about
- 31:02Speaker 4: you know, Saint Kitts Sneevis in their Independence Day today,
- 31:06Speaker 4: that's like a major you know, there's all types of festivities,
- 31:09Speaker 4: commemorative activities.
- 31:11Speaker 2: You know.
- 31:11Speaker 4: I also need to give a special shout out to
- 31:13Speaker 4: one of my sister queens from when I was very young,
- 31:16Speaker 4: Like we went to grade school together after my parents
- 31:20Speaker 4: moved north out of the Caribbean, and that is none
- 31:24Speaker 4: other than my you know, she's like my like a
- 31:27Speaker 4: blood sister, even though you know, sister from another mother another.
- 31:30Speaker 3: Fire right, and that's sister Queen Cheryl.
- 31:33Speaker 4: We call it Cheryl Manette right, and she's you know,
- 31:36Speaker 4: in the Jersey uh place where we grew up together.
- 31:39Speaker 4: And it was hilarious because today is her birthday, you know,
- 31:43Speaker 4: so she laughed when I called and started singing happy
- 31:46Speaker 4: birthday songs, started reminding her of all the things we
- 31:49Speaker 4: used to do when we were when we were younger.
- 31:51Speaker 4: She was, she was, she was pretty keeps reminding me,
- 31:54Speaker 4: She said, you remember doing all that?
- 31:56Speaker 3: So I used to just watch you, I believe.
- 32:04Speaker 4: And then you know, but again, you know, very very
- 32:06Speaker 4: powerful sister, you know, has another platform of you know,
- 32:11Speaker 4: dealing with podcasts, media publications, you know, providing consultation for
- 32:17Speaker 4: persons that are involved in becoming global speakers, you know,
- 32:20Speaker 4: doing a lot of work around the region. So I
- 32:23Speaker 4: desfintely wanted to send a shout out to sister Queen
- 32:26Speaker 4: Cheryl Manette. I know is Cheryl Cobb, but Cheryl Manette
- 32:30Speaker 4: is her stage name. I'll put that in that frame
- 32:33Speaker 4: and people can just go to her space and see
- 32:36Speaker 4: some of the powerful, inspirational, edifying work that this other
- 32:41Speaker 4: sister is doing. And to be able to celebrate her
- 32:45Speaker 4: Earth Anniversary, her birthday. What we reposed with Earthstrong is
- 32:50Speaker 4: always a privilege as well. I think it's also important
- 32:53Speaker 4: for people to know that there's this is a time
- 32:56Speaker 4: where we get an opportunity to really reflect going how
- 33:01Speaker 4: to have resource. Almost everybody and go fund me is
- 33:05Speaker 4: living proof. There are so many needs, so many causes.
- 33:11Speaker 4: You know, you can go to global funding spaces. Persons
- 33:17Speaker 4: have made an industry in requesting support through philanthropic means
- 33:24Speaker 4: or just direct contributions, you know, whether they're five oh
- 33:28Speaker 4: one C three, five oh one C eight charitable institutions
- 33:32Speaker 4: or not.
- 33:33Speaker 5: Right.
- 33:33Speaker 4: And so this is a time especially and I'm gonna
- 33:37Speaker 4: if I'm honing it in on our sisters, on our
- 33:39Speaker 4: women folk right now.
- 33:41Speaker 3: That part of what we speak of when we speak
- 33:45Speaker 3: of new women rising.
- 33:46Speaker 4: We're always looking at the context in the form of
- 33:49Speaker 4: how to bring some of this work into tuition. Now,
- 33:53Speaker 4: my other guest that was planning to join us tonight,
- 33:55Speaker 4: and I believe she's having she may be having some
- 33:58Speaker 4: issues in tech difficulties coming in and that's why I
- 34:02Speaker 4: chose to stay because some of the issues I've been
- 34:05Speaker 4: having here in the Virgin Islands, and we're going to
- 34:08Speaker 4: keep that knock on wood has been you know, whether
- 34:11Speaker 4: it's internet connectivity from hurricanes rain, because it seems like
- 34:15Speaker 4: this year we've been having like a plesthora, just a
- 34:18Speaker 4: host of different storms.
- 34:19Speaker 3: And even if it's just we're used to don't call it.
- 34:23Speaker 4: We've had up to category five hurricanes come back to back.
- 34:28Speaker 4: So when we see a Category one sometimes we don't
- 34:31Speaker 4: have our thrust up. You know, we're not fully prepared.
- 34:35Speaker 4: But the last couple of hurricanes it passed through were
- 34:38Speaker 4: barely categories one, the categories two and still interfere with
- 34:42Speaker 4: our infrastructure, hence making some of our connectivity, you know,
- 34:46Speaker 4: Internet services sell services, not function. Hence we miss out
- 34:53Speaker 4: on opportunities like this to exchange share some of our wisdom, teachings,
- 34:57Speaker 4: some of the knowledge and skills and talents and certise.
- 35:00Speaker 3: That we would like to share with the world.
- 35:02Speaker 4: And so to be able to resume this particular broadcast
- 35:07Speaker 4: with season two the Crew Podcast, but we really get
- 35:14Speaker 4: an opportunity to really change this to another space and
- 35:17Speaker 4: be able to share some of the music. And I've
- 35:20Speaker 4: been very cautious because at one point someone had to
- 35:23Speaker 4: pull me up because I wanted to play all types
- 35:25Speaker 4: of music, just make it like a a whole, right,
- 35:31Speaker 4: and then people are.
- 35:31Speaker 3: Like, copyright d am I you know this kind of
- 35:37Speaker 3: pulled me and railed me in.
- 35:38Speaker 4: So the music that you hear are the poetic bursts
- 35:42Speaker 4: of the spoken word that you hear are either things
- 35:44Speaker 4: like how we open tonight would have a purpose. That's
- 35:47Speaker 4: one of my own productions, right, and I try to
- 35:52Speaker 4: play things that I know we have the copyright the permission,
- 35:55Speaker 4: so there's no issue, especially with the sensitivities of copyright
- 36:01Speaker 4: infrigement issues that could exist on spaces like YouTube, Facebook, lineo, Instagram,
- 36:10Speaker 4: et cetera. With that being said, I would love for
- 36:13Speaker 4: you to also share with us or I'm feeling it,
- 36:17Speaker 4: Sister Queen and Prestonia, if you were to have a
- 36:23Speaker 4: you did share with this Chester Van some space select repairs.
- 36:28Speaker 4: But what would be your ask if you if without
- 36:33Speaker 4: h oh, I lost you again. I need you to
- 36:35Speaker 4: come back because I don't want this to just be me,
- 36:39Speaker 4: but I need you to come back into the platform.
- 36:41Speaker 4: I hope that she didn't tap a button and it
- 36:44Speaker 4: took her out right, So because I always put that
- 36:47Speaker 4: question out in the forefront, what is your ask and
- 36:52Speaker 4: how do you express your not just your need but
- 36:58Speaker 4: the desire or whether it's a nonprofit organizations goal and objective,
- 37:05Speaker 4: if it's an entrepreneurial investment opportunity that you're looking for,
- 37:12Speaker 4: is there that inner generational wealth building opportunity? And the
- 37:18Speaker 4: reason I keep coming back to that is because inside
- 37:23Speaker 4: of some of our community work here have had an
- 37:27Speaker 4: opportunity to really be exposed to some really wonderful people
- 37:35Speaker 4: that care about family and community. And sometimes when we
- 37:40Speaker 4: talk about these things, persons get like, oh, it must
- 37:44Speaker 4: be multi level marketing and look, and I keep telling
- 37:47Speaker 4: persons nothing is further from the truth. Many times when
- 37:52Speaker 4: we're talking about having a so soon, I know it
- 37:56Speaker 4: is a so soon having a hand everybody supporting a
- 38:01Speaker 4: particular person or their family and sharing the wealth and
- 38:06Speaker 4: being able to make it so that we can actually
- 38:09Speaker 4: build on things. And so I always encourage persons before
- 38:13Speaker 4: they say, oh, well, I don't want to participate in
- 38:16Speaker 4: that because that's this, that and the other and so forth.
- 38:19Speaker 3: Always go and listen and listen with an open.
- 38:25Speaker 4: Mind, a balanced card, because you don't want to let
- 38:31Speaker 4: anything in that doesn't belong of course, and at the
- 38:35Speaker 4: same time, think about how this opportunity that may be
- 38:40Speaker 4: presented to you will facilitate your.
- 38:44Speaker 3: Great she's returning. I hope yes, Okay, did I call it?
- 38:51Speaker 3: Did something happen? How do you ask me the powerful
- 38:56Speaker 3: question and then sit me out?
- 39:00Speaker 4: I have no problem, no problem, I'm okay. So I'll
- 39:04Speaker 4: come back on that powerful question and just request guidance
- 39:08Speaker 4: because that ask and the reason I say that asks
- 39:12Speaker 4: because I have an idea what you could say. I
- 39:15Speaker 4: just know that one of the things that I've always
- 39:18Speaker 4: observed with you at Pisonia is that you are not
- 39:21Speaker 4: afraid one You're not afraid of money, You're not afraid
- 39:24Speaker 4: of numbers with long zeros, and so I'm.
- 39:28Speaker 3: Clear on that.
- 39:29Speaker 4: And some people will be like, I only need five
- 39:32Speaker 4: thousand dollars, when in actuality they really need fifty or
- 39:36Speaker 4: five hundred thousand dollars. And you don't have any problem
- 39:39Speaker 4: going into the millions. I don't know, because the US
- 39:42Speaker 4: dollar has been kind of weakening a little bit, and
- 39:45Speaker 4: you know that you really need a lot.
- 39:47Speaker 3: To get things done. But I think it's important that.
- 39:51Speaker 4: You share because you started to say that when you
- 39:53Speaker 4: were talking about how important it is to have certain
- 39:57Speaker 4: amenities and resources for the seniors that you serve on
- 40:01Speaker 4: a daily basis, and you shared your appreciation for the agencies,
- 40:08Speaker 4: the individuals, the businesses in the community that have actually
- 40:12Speaker 4: supported just being able to do the part that's happening already,
- 40:17Speaker 4: and that you have an ideal, you have a desire
- 40:24Speaker 4: to be able to offer more because the intention is
- 40:27Speaker 4: where we are now. We hope to be able to
- 40:30Speaker 4: have more improved resources, a wider depth and breadth of
- 40:37Speaker 4: resources for the next generation of elders and seniors that
- 40:43Speaker 4: are coming, because we know we have certain limitations in
- 40:46Speaker 4: granted to spend you know, hurricanes twenty seventeen, COVID twenty twenty,
- 40:52Speaker 4: other hurricanes going in and out, twenty twenty three, even
- 40:56Speaker 4: if it was just flooding, you know, even if it
- 40:59Speaker 4: was just minor image, you know, as well as twenty
- 41:01Speaker 4: twenty four. And we're not finished in the season. Our
- 41:04Speaker 4: season is from June to November, and it's only September,
- 41:08Speaker 4: and we've already had some pretty engaging visitation from hurricanes
- 41:13Speaker 4: that again are category two or less, you know, But
- 41:17Speaker 4: because we have this experience, you know, it's like we say,
- 41:20Speaker 4: Hugo made me a doune right. We actually have a
- 41:23Speaker 4: song you go made me. I don't think people understand
- 41:26Speaker 4: that was a hurricane of nineteen eighty nine that devastated
- 41:31Speaker 4: like ninety to ninety five percent destruction in the Virgin Islands.
- 41:35Speaker 4: So people still have that in their mindset. So the
- 41:39Speaker 4: seventeenth and September was thirty five years today is linked
- 41:45Speaker 4: to another set of anniversaries. You know, it's not everybody
- 41:49Speaker 4: likes to talk about Irma and Maria because it just
- 41:51Speaker 4: kind of shakes people up. So I'm grateful that you
- 41:56Speaker 4: again share with us. You know, if you had that
- 42:00Speaker 4: ask before your stuff tries to blink out again. It
- 42:04Speaker 4: doesn't have to be the house, doesn't have to be
- 42:07Speaker 4: anything like that. But just if we could just get
- 42:10Speaker 4: people to be aware of not just the need, but
- 42:15Speaker 4: some of the desires and definitely that project, that oral
- 42:20Speaker 4: history project, because that requires time.
- 42:24Speaker 3: And resource right to be able to do.
- 42:27Speaker 4: We don't want to just do We could do it
- 42:28Speaker 4: with our phones, because everybody seems to think that phones
- 42:31Speaker 4: now are equivalent to professional cameras. However, we would like
- 42:35Speaker 4: to do it on the level that it would be
- 42:37Speaker 4: preserved well, can be archived and with the type of
- 42:42Speaker 4: respect and value that it deserves. Then we're going to
- 42:47Speaker 4: have to have you know, professional videographers, proper sound engineering crew,
- 42:52Speaker 4: proper editing crews, and things of that nature. So I
- 42:55Speaker 4: kind of would like to start with that particular project
- 42:58Speaker 4: so that you can publicly remind me when we're starting that.
- 43:07Speaker 4: Uh oh sound sound sound check, your sound check, your sound.
- 43:18Speaker 3: Wow, what happened?
- 43:19Speaker 4: Take your time?
- 43:22Speaker 3: H uh oh.
- 43:29Speaker 4: Okay, We're gonna take a moment for her to address
- 43:32Speaker 4: her sound issues because part of what we were moving
- 43:36Speaker 4: in the direction of and I just would like to
- 43:38Speaker 4: highlight that because I know we have a limited.
- 43:43Speaker 3: I can hear you now.
- 43:45Speaker 4: Okay, so your question again, actually, when would you like
- 43:54Speaker 4: to start this project, this oral history project with the elders.
- 44:02Speaker 3: It all depends on your schedule.
- 44:04Speaker 2: We have.
- 44:07Speaker 3: In November our Thanksgiving luncheon.
- 44:13Speaker 1: We invite all the seniors for both centers on Saint
- 44:17Speaker 1: John and the seniors from Saint Thomas, so you have
- 44:22Speaker 1: everybody in the house, everybody, and we all also invite
- 44:30Speaker 1: like the community members that are seniors or you know who.
- 44:37Speaker 3: I would think we want to hang out and spend
- 44:39Speaker 3: time with us that day.
- 44:40Speaker 1: The firefighters, police department, like you know, different community members
- 44:46Speaker 1: and government officials, administrator, you know, the senators.
- 44:54Speaker 3: Senator Dwayne de Graf and his team have been like
- 44:59Speaker 3: the big brother, the big uncle, and the aunt. You know,
- 45:03Speaker 3: they come and they look out for the seniors. And
- 45:05Speaker 3: they just visited us yesterday, so at the beach.
- 45:09Speaker 1: We're hanging out at the beach. So they normally host
- 45:12Speaker 1: the Father's Day luncheon. So out of respect, if you
- 45:16Speaker 1: do something for us, you get to come and hang
- 45:18Speaker 1: out with.
- 45:18Speaker 3: Us any day.
- 45:20Speaker 1: So we invite them up for Thanksgiving. So if you
- 45:23Speaker 1: want to come over, I'd have to look at the calendar.
- 45:27Speaker 1: They would be you know, probably the mid my memory
- 45:31Speaker 1: serves me correctly. The thirteenth is a Wednesday, and we
- 45:38Speaker 1: would probably do it the week after.
- 45:41Speaker 3: Okay, yeah right, it'd be like the twentieth.
- 45:45Speaker 4: I mean, the actual Thanksgiving Day is being observed on
- 45:49Speaker 4: the twenty eighth, and I know that, you know, depending
- 45:54Speaker 4: on what the schedule is, you know, because most pierces
- 45:55Speaker 4: would spend that day like with their family directly, so
- 45:58Speaker 4: you wouldn't want to.
- 46:00Speaker 3: Oh, say, can do it on that day. We do
- 46:02Speaker 3: it a week before.
- 46:03Speaker 4: So that's why that twenty okay, perfect? Yeah, in the week,
- 46:08Speaker 4: so because.
- 46:08Speaker 1: You would have, of course spent time with your family,
- 46:10Speaker 1: but we want to make sure that it's during the
- 46:12Speaker 1: week that you know, the seniors can attend and then
- 46:16Speaker 1: we invite the community.
- 46:18Speaker 3: It sponsored.
- 46:19Speaker 1: The luncheon is sponsored by Starfish Market, So I give
- 46:22Speaker 1: thanks for the Starfish team. They've been doing that for
- 46:26Speaker 1: years with my mom, way before I came. So that's
- 46:29Speaker 1: something that they've done for years. Like I'm forty five
- 46:33Speaker 1: years old, my mother has been working with that center
- 46:35Speaker 1: ever since I was in how can I.
- 46:37Speaker 3: Say, probably in first grade and I don't remember. I
- 46:40Speaker 3: just remember she wasn't home and I didn't like it.
- 46:45Speaker 3: Rather do at work, yeah someone and my mom was
- 46:48Speaker 3: always at home and it's like, wait a minute, I'm
- 46:50Speaker 3: at home with my dad. Where's my mother. Yeah, that's
- 46:54Speaker 3: where she started dedicating her time to the seniors.
- 46:58Speaker 1: So she was out and.
- 46:59Speaker 3: About with that. But they started she started doing that,
- 47:05Speaker 3: you know, something for them. Starfish does the whole spread,
- 47:08Speaker 3: the turkey.
- 47:11Speaker 4: The whole work, so had they do everything in terms
- 47:13Speaker 4: of the celebration. And I think it's important to also
- 47:16Speaker 4: note that while the rest of the region, well, this
- 47:20Speaker 4: particular part of the world highlights the thanksgiving, you know,
- 47:24Speaker 4: families coming together and so forth. That in Saint John
- 47:28Speaker 4: in particular, November twenty third is a significant anniversary of
- 47:35Speaker 4: one of the first African revolutions in seventeen thirty three,
- 47:40Speaker 4: that started literally on November twenty third, seventeen thirty three,
- 47:44Speaker 4: where they formally enslaved Africans led revolutionary rebellion, rebellion to
- 47:52Speaker 4: some insurrection to others, and it had it had the
- 47:56Speaker 4: ability to hold the island as an independent African nation
- 48:02Speaker 4: until May twenty fourth, seventeen thirty four. So even in
- 48:07Speaker 4: our Virgin Islands Code now in the law books, November
- 48:11Speaker 4: twenty third is known as Virgin Island's Freedom Fighter Day.
- 48:15Speaker 4: And I'm seeing that our guest who was having some
- 48:18Speaker 4: issues coming in, she came in in a perfect time though.
- 48:21Speaker 9: So but I have no idea what has transpired before
- 48:27Speaker 9: I got here.
- 48:29Speaker 4: Yeah, But the first and foremost, I'd like to ask
- 48:33Speaker 4: for a moment of reflection.
- 48:35Speaker 3: We've been joined by.
- 48:38Speaker 4: One of my eas one of the queen mothers that
- 48:42Speaker 4: guides and guards a lot of the work I do,
- 48:45Speaker 4: Queen Mother Yah ten Die, and I am also extending it,
- 48:52Speaker 4: not just as a spiritual eldress to me, but also
- 48:57Speaker 4: one of this country's most esteemed and sought after educational leaders,
- 49:06Speaker 4: educational consultants, sought organizers, revolutionary spiritual priest.
- 49:14Speaker 3: That I could do like a whole piece on her.
- 49:18Speaker 4: I don't have enough time, but I just wanted to
- 49:20Speaker 4: really give thanks and praise that you were able to
- 49:23Speaker 4: navigate through the stream yard platform to join us, even
- 49:27Speaker 4: if it's just for these last few minutes, and we
- 49:30Speaker 4: would leave.
- 49:30Speaker 3: Some reflections because what we've been.
- 49:32Speaker 4: Talking about is new woman rising, sister and Prestonia here
- 49:36Speaker 4: is in Saint John.
- 49:38Speaker 3: She was sharing some of the work that she does
- 49:41Speaker 3: with her.
- 49:42Speaker 4: Hobby slash entrepreneurial business, online trendy trendy lionessed courtier. She
- 49:52Speaker 4: was also sharing her daytime work of helping and working
- 49:58Speaker 4: and serving as a coordinator with seniors in Saint John
- 50:02Speaker 4: in particular and the types of culture, healing, education and
- 50:07Speaker 4: all types of field trips. All I want to highlight
- 50:10Speaker 4: that powerful. You know, I love anybody that goes to
- 50:13Speaker 4: the beach, so when I can like field trip, but
- 50:20Speaker 4: I'm saying to some of the most beautiful historic spaces
- 50:24Speaker 4: and places to really give the seniors in Saint John
- 50:28Speaker 4: all that they're deserving of in their years where people
- 50:32Speaker 4: like to refer to as twilight, you know. So that's
- 50:35Speaker 4: pretty much so what we've been talking about. So she
- 50:38Speaker 4: was given some of that, sharing some of the things
- 50:40Speaker 4: she desires, asking persons to just be aware, you know,
- 50:44Speaker 4: Saint John.
- 50:45Speaker 3: So if you're coming to the Virgin Islands, I'm putting
- 50:47Speaker 3: that out there to the Crew podcast. I'm just gonna
- 50:53Speaker 3: put it out there. It would be fabulous.
- 50:56Speaker 9: Yes, I have been to Saint John a couple of times.
- 51:03Speaker 9: Once when the historically black colleges and universities did a
- 51:08Speaker 9: conference there and I went over to Saint John because
- 51:13Speaker 9: I brought a whole crew of black folks trying to
- 51:16Speaker 9: find the black owned businesses so that I didn't want
- 51:19Speaker 9: them to deposit their money only in with the hotel
- 51:23Speaker 9: and with you know where the cruise ships.
- 51:26Speaker 3: Got so.
- 51:29Speaker 9: Family, I brought a group over and then subsequently I
- 51:33Speaker 9: am an evaluator for Title three programs with the Virgin Island,
- 51:39Speaker 9: the University of the Virgin Islands. So when there was
- 51:43Speaker 9: the center on Saint John and they were trying to
- 51:48Speaker 9: establish it so that students would be able to take
- 51:50Speaker 9: their courses online at that time, you all were ahead
- 51:55Speaker 9: of most people technologically, but of course with all of
- 52:01Speaker 9: the political kinds of things or whatever, it didn't pan out.
- 52:05Speaker 9: And I know I had made some recommendations in terms
- 52:07Speaker 9: of how they could expand on it, but they didn't
- 52:12Speaker 9: do too much because they were looking at commercial But
- 52:18Speaker 9: with you doing it as but you working with young
- 52:21Speaker 9: people makes me think about a little nonprofit organization that
- 52:25Speaker 9: I work with. It's called a DOSSI, the African Diaspora
- 52:29Speaker 9: Ancestral Commemoration Institute, and one of the programs that we
- 52:34Speaker 9: have done in the past is work with elderly who
- 52:37Speaker 9: were in elderly homes, and we connected them with African
- 52:43Speaker 9: Dance Troop and had the African Dance Troupe to work
- 52:48Speaker 9: with the elderly to get them to understand the transition
- 52:52Speaker 9: from the original drums and whatnot in Africa bringing it
- 52:57Speaker 9: forward to hip hop, so that we could get them
- 53:02Speaker 9: to better embrace the youth, you see, and the youth
- 53:07Speaker 9: to embrace them. So it made me think about that
- 53:11Speaker 9: when she just said that, because I would love for
- 53:15Speaker 9: you to do something like that.
- 53:18Speaker 3: You don't know, I would love to work with you
- 53:20Speaker 3: do It's how you can love to see you do that.
- 53:26Speaker 9: You know what I'm saying, Because you all have all
- 53:28Speaker 9: the elements there, you just gotta put the pieces together.
- 53:32Speaker 4: Right right right, It's coming, It's coming. I mean, this
- 53:35Speaker 4: is the fact of going. And again that's part of
- 53:37Speaker 4: what we're talking about, the collaborations, the networking and being
- 53:43Speaker 4: able to do these types of things together and being
- 53:47Speaker 4: able to have them so that that keyword that you said, institute,
- 53:52Speaker 4: so that these things are institutionalized, so this is regular.
- 53:55Speaker 4: This isn't like just a project or just a one
- 53:58Speaker 4: time and done right that it's actually something that will
- 54:04Speaker 4: be multi generational. It would be generational, it would be
- 54:09Speaker 4: trans cultural, and it would be long term. So that's
- 54:12Speaker 4: part of what we were speaking about for you know,
- 54:15Speaker 4: most of tonight's broadcast, and just being able to share
- 54:20Speaker 4: some of the ways in which we do that and
- 54:22Speaker 4: being able to share so I was able to put
- 54:24Speaker 4: at least the Facebook page for a DOSSI so person's
- 54:27Speaker 4: you know, African Diaspora Ancestral Commemoration Institute, so that that
- 54:34Speaker 4: way you can find some more information. And then in
- 54:37Speaker 4: the future we definitely would have I'm looking forward to
- 54:40Speaker 4: having you join perhaps in our next I do my
- 54:42Speaker 4: broadcast on the first and third Thursday of every month,
- 54:48Speaker 4: so perhaps in October we can have you now that
- 54:51Speaker 4: you know how to get in and out of the platform,
- 54:53Speaker 4: so that that way we can spend some time talking
- 54:55Speaker 4: about Adossi and then letting persons and other pieces, because
- 54:59Speaker 4: I mean, you could easily go to Appeal and all
- 55:01Speaker 4: these other network platforms that you've been grounded in founding, etc.
- 55:07Speaker 4: So we can start to bring some of this information
- 55:10Speaker 4: where people can learn and engage and really insen. Right,
- 55:15Speaker 4: And I would ask, because we have about five minutes left,
- 55:19Speaker 4: and I would just ask for you, Sister and Prestonia
- 55:23Speaker 4: to give like a final commentary, and then I'll ask Via.
- 55:29Speaker 3: To do the same. I thank you all.
- 55:35Speaker 1: Forgiving me the opportunity and you're listening here this evening
- 55:40Speaker 1: to talk about my fit and feisty seniors of Saint John.
- 55:45Speaker 1: And to anyone visiting Saint John US Virgin Islands, you're
- 55:49Speaker 1: always welcome to visit us. We're at the Parking Recreations
- 55:54Speaker 1: Center in town, right down the hill from the roundabouts,
- 56:00Speaker 1: up the street from the ferry. If you're walking, it's
- 56:03Speaker 1: walkable Monday through Thursday. Well, I should say Monday through Wednesday. Thursday,
- 56:09Speaker 1: they'll be there until about ten thirty because then they'll
- 56:12Speaker 1: be headed out to the beach.
- 56:14Speaker 3: There we go. That's why I come on Thursday. This culture, so.
- 56:28Speaker 1: On Thursdays we go to the beach and that's our
- 56:31Speaker 1: field trip. I guess, the most relaxing day of the week.
- 56:35Speaker 1: So we meet and we go there until two o'clock.
- 56:38Speaker 1: So they meet about ten thirty to two. So you're
- 56:41Speaker 1: always welcome to come and visit us or join us
- 56:45Speaker 1: at the beach, and we would look forward to I
- 56:48Speaker 1: guess talking to you soon. And Royalty came to say
- 56:51Speaker 1: good night.
- 56:55Speaker 4: I love you, Princess Royalty, thank you so much, Thank
- 57:03Speaker 4: you again, and thanks you having me.
- 57:05Speaker 3: It's been a joint of privilege. And please Queen Mother
- 57:09Speaker 3: Iyah and I go ahead and let us get ready
- 57:14Speaker 3: to close out.
- 57:16Speaker 9: I do apologize for joining you so late. I did
- 57:19Speaker 9: have I have used stream Yard, but for some reason
- 57:22Speaker 9: I couldn't get in and I had to not use
- 57:25Speaker 9: it on my phone and go back to my computer
- 57:27Speaker 9: to get it to work.
- 57:28Speaker 4: Okay, So yeah, I.
- 57:31Speaker 9: Have used it for other programs because one of the
- 57:33Speaker 9: other little things that we did, uh, two brothers and
- 57:36Speaker 9: myself because you know, Title three programs at the HBC
- 57:40Speaker 9: uses the largest grant that all of them received, and
- 57:45Speaker 9: we hadn't done much as we have a Title three association.
- 57:49Speaker 9: So the brothers and I created the HBCU Forever Foundation, okay,
- 57:55Speaker 9: And what we do at the little foundation is we
- 57:58Speaker 9: raise a little bit of money. It's five oh one
- 58:02Speaker 9: C three, so it's taxed. Your donations are tax deductible,
- 58:06Speaker 9: as is a dossi uh. And what we do is
- 58:10Speaker 9: we give five hundred dollars book scholarships to students who
- 58:15Speaker 9: are enrolled in HBCUs. So they don't have to be
- 58:18Speaker 9: high performing students. They just have to make a request
- 58:25Speaker 9: and it's very simple, and we send them a check
- 58:28Speaker 9: for five hundred dollars and we don't follow up to
- 58:30Speaker 9: see if the only thing they spend it on was books,
- 58:33Speaker 9: because we know that the students have a need, so
- 58:36Speaker 9: whatever they want to use it for is fine.
- 58:40Speaker 3: But it's just a few of the little things.
- 58:42Speaker 9: As you see also with my beloved Queen mother here Censerah,
- 58:46Speaker 9: that we're engaged in anything that is going to try
- 58:49Speaker 9: to help uplift our people in any kind of way.
- 58:52Speaker 9: And two areas that I that have my heart are
- 58:56Speaker 9: the babies like the one I just saw you, my
- 59:02Speaker 9: young you, my young people, and the elderly. I'm an
- 59:06Speaker 9: elderly person now who doesn't who still reaches for other
- 59:11Speaker 9: folks to be elder But I'm saying, mama.
- 59:15Speaker 5: Uh.
- 59:15Speaker 9: Even people who are older than me call me mama.
- 59:18Speaker 9: Tien die okay, because it's that motherly motherly. I was
- 59:24Speaker 9: gonna say motherly love.
- 59:26Speaker 3: But it's like.
- 59:28Speaker 9: The mother hen they spreads their wings and pulls all
- 59:31Speaker 9: the youngins up under her. So you you under there now, Mama.
- 59:37Speaker 6: It's an honor, sasure, thank you, and I'm.
- 59:43Speaker 9: So pleased to hear what you were doing.
- 59:45Speaker 3: You uplift my.
- 59:46Speaker 4: Spirits, so thank you, thank you. You have a blessed
- 59:50Speaker 4: me right well, I just want to think both of you.
- 59:53Speaker 4: It's been an honor and a privilege. I'm grateful that
- 59:56Speaker 4: you were able to join me on the Crew podcast
- 1:00:00Speaker 4: this particular episode one five six. I'm feeling that they
- 1:00:03Speaker 4: got numeration for this. It gives us an opportunity to
- 1:00:06Speaker 4: really take this work to the next level for those
- 1:00:09Speaker 4: that are listening, those that are viewing, those that are
- 1:00:11Speaker 4: looking at this podcast after it's been done live. This
- 1:00:14Speaker 4: has been your host, Queen Mother, doctor Chinzera, building a
- 1:00:19Speaker 4: new legacy. This is how our speaks, and when we
- 1:00:22Speaker 4: speak of our speaks, we're speaking of ancient, sacred traditions.
- 1:00:28Speaker 3: Let's keep that in mind, you know, truth to power.
- 1:00:30Speaker 4: We're always speaking of culture, healing, arts, technology and spirituality
- 1:00:35Speaker 4: for life, inspiration, freedom and education. And just remember that
- 1:00:39Speaker 4: spirituality really grounds many of us. Land is one of
- 1:00:43Speaker 4: our foundations, and our harmony will keep us being able
- 1:00:48Speaker 4: to live in truth, justice, order, reciprocity, balance, divine righteousnes
- 1:00:54Speaker 4: and harmony into eternity. So with that, I would like
- 1:00:57Speaker 4: to thank all of the crew for making this happened special.
- 1:01:00Speaker 4: Shout out to Queen Angela and I with my song
- 1:01:05Speaker 4: because I love my have a purpose, I can do.
- 1:01:08Speaker 3: My little, my little dance.
- 1:01:10Speaker 9: Not only that, Mama, but also with that. In addition
- 1:01:13Speaker 9: to the harmony, it's the rhythm.
- 1:01:17Speaker 5: Verse.
- 1:01:20Speaker 8: It seems like people than now we have a purpose
- 1:01:53Speaker 8: in this life.
- 1:01:54Speaker 3: Song live a purpose every day. It just makes show
- 1:02:02Speaker 3: you live in that way, have a purpose and all
- 1:02:07Speaker 3: you do so your life.
- 1:02:09Speaker 4: It's for.
- 1:02:15Speaker 3: It's true.
- 1:02:22Speaker 8: We have to live the life because so we can
- 1:02:26Speaker 8: have pressed the prosily. We have to live the lifelike.
- 1:02:31Speaker 6: Tit all intelligendistru.
- 1:02:36Speaker 4: If you have a purpose along the way, that's all
- 1:02:41Speaker 4: the time, so your life like you know, you can
- 1:03:00Speaker 4: tell a little younger, but yeah, it's just.
- 1:03:11Speaker 3: Listen.
- 1:03:12Speaker 4: And we've got to give a special shout out to
- 1:03:14Speaker 4: Brother Army because he's heard me doing poetry and then
- 1:03:18Speaker 4: opened up the mic and let me really sing it
- 1:03:21Speaker 4: and record it. And I was like, get thanks again everyone, thank.
- 1:03:28Speaker 3: You for listen. Come in backing the day, back in
- 1:03:33Speaker 3: the day.
- 1:03:34Speaker 4: We got to do all these other things first, but
- 1:03:36Speaker 4: I want to just thank the crew podcast all of
- 1:03:39Speaker 4: the support. Just keep it going. There's some books that
- 1:03:41Speaker 4: we need to talk about. There's some intergenerational wealth building
- 1:03:45Speaker 4: we'd like to talk about. But remember that at the center,
- 1:03:48Speaker 4: it's how we really elevate and really really ascend in
- 1:03:52Speaker 4: these present times. So let's keep working together and keep collaborating.
- 1:03:56Speaker 4: I'm grateful. I'm grateful, and we're done.
- 1:04:00Speaker 3: Exactly attack M. Thank you my sisters. Has been a blessing.
- 1:04:05Speaker 3: Grateful to you.
