- 0:01Speaker 1: Some of the content of Patriots Unfiltered may not be
- 0:03Speaker 1: suitable for all audiences. Listener discretion is advised.
- 0:08Speaker 2: The world's a big.
- 0:14Speaker 3: Welcome to Patriots Unfiltered.
- 0:18Speaker 4: It's a skeleton crew here to say the least. Who
- 0:22Speaker 4: had Paul Perolla be in? One of the only ones
- 0:24Speaker 4: in at this time of year?
- 0:25Speaker 5: Jun is their highest paid player.
- 0:27Speaker 4: I worry you. I don't know.
- 0:28Speaker 5: I'm such a draft nerd that like I kind.
- 0:31Speaker 4: Of know everybody. No, no one's ever been on the
- 0:34Speaker 4: training Taylor Strong and Kevin Harris, like.
- 0:40Speaker 5: We had a fire alarm at our apartment at two
- 0:42Speaker 5: thirty in this morning.
- 0:43Speaker 4: So I'm just jinks.
- 0:44Speaker 5: I do have some emails watch it what watch you
- 0:46Speaker 5: read song to say that, like the movie itself isn't great, Like,
- 0:51Speaker 5: oh no, it's a great piece of cinema history.
- 0:55Speaker 3: It's a great movie.
- 0:58Speaker 4: It's a great like this is No, it doesn't hold.
- 1:01Speaker 4: I was listen.
- 1:02Speaker 5: I was young when I saw Jaws for the first time.
- 1:05Speaker 4: And will we have a Catch twenty two through ya?
- 1:07Speaker 4: You go, oh, so that's a special treat because he's
- 1:09Speaker 4: smart enough to know that I do not listen to
- 1:12Speaker 4: Catch twenty two.
- 1:13Speaker 1: Wow, this is Patriots Unfiltered.
- 1:18Speaker 5: That show sounded a lot more off the rails listening
- 1:21Speaker 5: back to it than it like. I felt like we
- 1:23Speaker 5: did a good job.
- 1:23Speaker 4: I do too, and I totally agree.
- 1:25Speaker 5: Hey, and now that we listen back to the open,
- 1:27Speaker 5: I'm like, what were we talking about?
- 1:29Speaker 3: Alarms, drills, you name it.
- 1:31Speaker 4: It was a lot.
- 1:32Speaker 2: Are talking about Jaws?
- 1:34Speaker 3: Of course, I mean, it's it's the season.
- 1:36Speaker 5: Is it an off season show, Well, it's a it's
- 1:40Speaker 5: not a skeleton crew. Today we got Alex, got Matista,
- 1:43Speaker 5: we got Paul, and you got me Evan in the
- 1:46Speaker 5: host chair.
- 1:47Speaker 4: I don't know how I feel about this, yet I
- 1:48Speaker 4: feel great about it.
- 1:49Speaker 2: Evan actually has the facilitate conversation.
- 1:51Speaker 5: I can't just take over conversations, so I'm gonna have
- 1:54Speaker 5: to I'm gonna have to allow you guys to do
- 1:55Speaker 5: the talking today. But I feel like the Patriots did
- 2:01Speaker 5: us a service by making this news last night with
- 2:06Speaker 5: Devonte Parker's contract extension, because now we have something to
- 2:09Speaker 5: talk about that is that isn't Jaws in traffic and
- 2:13Speaker 5: you know, Boston stop lights, and we'll get to that.
- 2:16Speaker 5: We'll get to that. But there's a lot to talk
- 2:18Speaker 5: about here with with Devonte Parker. I think, just in itself,
- 2:23Speaker 5: Devontae Parker as a player that looks like he's going
- 2:26Speaker 5: to stick around for a couple of years, what this
- 2:28Speaker 5: means for the offense currently, the current makeup of the roster,
- 2:32Speaker 5: and then obviously the effects that it has potentially or
- 2:36Speaker 5: not on on DeAndre Hopkins and the sweepstakes for DeAndre Hopkins.
- 2:40Speaker 5: It does sound like from various reports in Rapaport, Mike
- 2:44Speaker 5: Reeese coming out and saying that they don't feel like
- 2:47Speaker 5: this is connected to DeAndre Hopkins. I have some doubts
- 2:52Speaker 5: about that, maybe a little bit, But I'm curious to
- 2:54Speaker 5: get your guys' opinion just on Devonte Parker in this
- 2:58Speaker 5: extension why. I think it's a lot of the question
- 3:01Speaker 5: for a lot of people.
- 3:02Speaker 4: It's interesting and we should just sort of give some
- 3:04Speaker 4: nuts and bolts. Ian Rapaport NFL network was the one
- 3:07Speaker 4: I first saw yesterday. I think he's been credited with
- 3:11Speaker 4: quote unquote breaking it three years thirty three million, which
- 3:15Speaker 4: is not really overly relevant. It's, you know, a lot
- 3:19Speaker 4: of fluff. He used a phrase, and we'll get to
- 3:22Speaker 4: this later, but he used a phrase about guaranteed money
- 3:25Speaker 4: that I thought was very ambiguous. Fourteen million in guarantees
- 3:29Speaker 4: and roster bonuses, which aren't the same thing. So I
- 3:34Speaker 4: think the bottom I just wanted to get, like the
- 3:36Speaker 4: nuts and bolts of the contract extension. We can talk
- 3:39Speaker 4: about that after us. But in regards to Hopkins specifically,
- 3:43Speaker 4: as you brought up, Evan, this might sound weird. I
- 3:48Speaker 4: don't think it has anything to do with it financially,
- 3:51Speaker 4: but I do think it might have something to do
- 3:53Speaker 4: with it just in player acquisition wise. I think it
- 3:59Speaker 4: might be small, but I think the chances of signing
- 4:01Speaker 4: Hopkins are a little less today, I feel in my
- 4:04Speaker 4: mind than they were, you know on Tuesday when we
- 4:06Speaker 4: talked about it.
- 4:07Speaker 3: Push it more towards Cooks maybe Cook sorry Cook, No, no, no,
- 4:12Speaker 3: not in fact it at all.
- 4:14Speaker 4: No, I don't. I don't think that this stuff is
- 4:16Speaker 4: related in general. I don't. But I'm still gonna take
- 4:22Speaker 4: Hopkins at his word, which and I'm saying, here's word
- 4:25Speaker 4: everybody keeps writing. Put Yeah, he's he's waiting it out.
- 4:29Speaker 4: He's gonna wait till training camp. I take that as
- 4:31Speaker 4: his word. I don't. I think he's probably trying to
- 4:33Speaker 4: drum up, you know, a little bit more money, a
- 4:35Speaker 4: little bit more interest. I know, wait till training camp.
- 4:37Speaker 4: I think that's probably the way it will unfold.
- 4:40Speaker 5: Alex, I feel like.
- 4:41Speaker 6: That was always, yeah, the way it was going to unfold. Initially,
- 4:44Speaker 6: when I saw the report, I was like, Okay, are
- 4:46Speaker 6: they may be moving money around because Davante or because
- 4:50Speaker 6: Hopkins does want to Wait? Maybe is DeVante kind of
- 4:55Speaker 6: I don't know. There's probably a lot of egos in
- 4:57Speaker 6: the wide receiver room right now that have been hurt
- 4:59Speaker 6: over the last year into this off season. So was
- 5:02Speaker 6: there a situation where it was like, Hey, I don't
- 5:04Speaker 6: feel loved right now.
- 5:07Speaker 5: I think that's a big part of it.
- 5:08Speaker 6: Yeah, I don't know, but I think I hope that
- 5:12Speaker 6: I hope that Parker really has a year this year
- 5:15Speaker 6: where we can kind of see what his potential is.
- 5:18Speaker 2: I feel like there was so many times.
- 5:19Speaker 6: Last year where he'd make a really big play and
- 5:22Speaker 6: then the O line would be off sides or something
- 5:24Speaker 6: and it'd get called back.
- 5:25Speaker 2: So obviously him being healthy is the biggest thing. But
- 5:29Speaker 2: I don't really know what to make of this situation.
- 5:32Speaker 3: You saw some not reports, but on Twitter he was
- 5:34Speaker 3: kind of the odd man out if Hopkins came in.
- 5:37Speaker 3: I think it's just like him in for the year,
- 5:38Speaker 3: not on this show, not fair. But then you also
- 5:41Speaker 3: saw the training camp, not training camp, mini camp press conference.
- 5:44Speaker 3: He was kind of like quiet on the whole Hopkins situation.
- 5:46Speaker 3: So he's a.
- 5:47Speaker 2: Quiet guy in Salty. He's really hard to read. He's
- 5:50Speaker 2: really hard to read. I think he's really shy. I
- 5:53Speaker 2: think he's a good guy, but I think he's shy.
- 5:54Speaker 3: But that being said, I think it locks him in
- 5:56Speaker 3: for the year. You don't really need he doesn't need
- 5:59Speaker 3: to worry about that.
- 6:00Speaker 5: Yeah, that was my biggest takeaway from the Parker angle
- 6:03Speaker 5: is just all this tells me is that he's not
- 6:06Speaker 5: going to be the odd man out if they do
- 6:07Speaker 5: sign DeAndre Hopkins. He's going to be here. He's going
- 6:09Speaker 5: to be in the offense. He's going to be involved.
- 6:12Speaker 5: And I think on the surface, just on a on
- 6:15Speaker 5: a micro level, I don't mind the contract and I
- 6:17Speaker 5: don't mind the player. I think he's a productive player
- 6:20Speaker 5: when he's out there. Paul, you might not like this,
- 6:23Speaker 5: but the nerds love him, the analytics love him.
- 6:25Speaker 4: Some of the nerds love him.
- 6:27Speaker 5: Warren Sharp doesn't like him, and we can get to.
- 6:30Speaker 4: That discriminatory against the nerds. Let's them all.
- 6:34Speaker 5: He's he's a different kind of nerd to me. Analytically,
- 6:38Speaker 5: he's an efficient player. You know, seventeen point four yards
- 6:41Speaker 5: per catch, eleven and a half yards per target, doesn't
- 6:44Speaker 5: drop very many passes. There's a lot of things that
- 6:47Speaker 5: he did very well last year. Granted, in only forty
- 6:51Speaker 5: seven targets, he actually converted more of his targets into
- 6:55Speaker 5: explosive plays twenty plus yard plays than any receiver in
- 6:58Speaker 5: the league. Now, guys like Jayalen Watt'll get targeted one
- 7:01Speaker 5: hundred and twenty times and he only gets targeted forty seven,
- 7:03Speaker 5: So the sample size a little bit different. But I
- 7:06Speaker 5: think Devontae Parker as a player is a useful solid
- 7:10Speaker 5: piece when he is out there and he's getting the
- 7:12Speaker 5: ball throw in his direction and things like that. With
- 7:14Speaker 5: that being said, my big picture concern about it and
- 7:19Speaker 5: why I can't love this move is it's another thing
- 7:24Speaker 5: that tells me that this is the tax bracket that
- 7:26Speaker 5: this team is going to operate at the wide receiver position.
- 7:29Speaker 5: It's going to be Juju Smith Schusters, it's gonna be
- 7:32Speaker 5: Devonte Parker's, It's gonna be Kendrick Bourne, who's another guy
- 7:35Speaker 5: that's in that mid level contract status. And every once
- 7:39Speaker 5: in a while they might throw a fiftieth overall pick
- 7:43Speaker 5: at the position to get a youth and get some
- 7:46Speaker 5: young talent in there. But they are never going to
- 7:50Speaker 5: be a team that's going to overextend for a wide receiver.
- 7:53Speaker 4: You guys feel about it's just curious.
- 7:54Speaker 6: I think that I feel kind of similarly to you.
- 7:58Speaker 6: But I think that Hopkins might be outlier here just
- 8:02Speaker 6: on the affinity that they have for each other.
- 8:04Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 8:04Speaker 4: I can be.
- 8:05Speaker 5: Proven wrong easily. If they signed DeAndre Hopkins next week,
- 8:08Speaker 5: I will ecro that maybe they're changing. But I also
- 8:11Speaker 5: need to see the money on Hopkins, because if they
- 8:13Speaker 5: get him at a discount because of the situation in
- 8:16Speaker 5: the circumstances of his release and everything, then it's still not.
- 8:20Speaker 5: It's still not, you know, changing philosophy, and their philosophy
- 8:24Speaker 5: they're spending model at that position tells me that they
- 8:28Speaker 5: don't want to over extend for a wide receiver. They're
- 8:31Speaker 5: never gonna pay the big diva wide out and you're
- 8:34Speaker 5: gonna get by. They think they can get by with
- 8:36Speaker 5: this type of group, And I just don't necessarily think
- 8:40Speaker 5: that that's the way the league is trending or the
- 8:42Speaker 5: way the position is trending.
- 8:43Speaker 3: When Parker's on, I think he's an above average receiver,
- 8:46Speaker 3: like he saw flashes of it last season. But if
- 8:49Speaker 3: you're paying a receiver in his thirties, I'd rather paid Hopkins.
- 8:51Speaker 4: So yeah, and I mean, I'm gonna get to the
- 8:55Speaker 4: nerd stuff later because I'm curious all in all honesty. Yeah,
- 8:58Speaker 4: I'm curious on some of the different numbers, which ones,
- 9:02Speaker 4: because you know, I'm not as much into the metrics
- 9:05Speaker 4: as you are, Evan, I'm curious to which ones are
- 9:08Speaker 4: more important than others. But a couple of things on this, Yeah,
- 9:13Speaker 4: he's he's thirty years old. I think it's sort of
- 9:17Speaker 4: been portrayed as a pay cut disguised as an extension.
- 9:23Speaker 4: I don't really think that that's the case. I think
- 9:25Speaker 4: he's going to end up getting more money than he
- 9:27Speaker 4: was due, certainly more upfront. And mind now, we all
- 9:31Speaker 4: know that when you do these extensions, typically the base
- 9:35Speaker 4: salary in the first year goes down, which opens up
- 9:38Speaker 4: some cap space. His base number was something like five
- 9:42Speaker 4: point seven. He's probably going to have to be on
- 9:45Speaker 4: the field to get five point seven, but as a
- 9:48Speaker 4: chance to get more than that, so obviously you want
- 9:50Speaker 4: him to be on the field, right, So it's not like, well, jeez,
- 9:54Speaker 4: we can keep that under five points set. Well, that's
- 9:56Speaker 4: not good if you kept it under five point seven.
- 9:59Speaker 4: But the thing that I don't like about the the
- 10:02Speaker 4: extension the most is is it signing off on future
- 10:06Speaker 4: DeVante Parker years? Like I can't imagine that he's not
- 10:09Speaker 4: part of the equation and at least in twenty four. Now,
- 10:12Speaker 4: I don't know is this a true extension, Like is
- 10:14Speaker 4: it four, five and six or is it the first
- 10:17Speaker 4: year was sort of ripped up in this year, only
- 10:20Speaker 4: two more years so he signed They usually do, so
- 10:26Speaker 4: I don't I don't love the idea. And Alex, you're
- 10:29Speaker 4: gonna get this analogy because you're so Celtic centric. It's
- 10:32Speaker 4: to me, to.
- 10:34Speaker 2: Me kidding, I'm gonna that's the second hour.
- 10:42Speaker 4: There's no chance I'm gonna let that one go. But anyway,
- 10:46Speaker 4: the bridges, remember the bridges for the Celtics, the Jay Crowders, Isaiah,
- 10:51Speaker 4: you know, yes, DeVante Parker should be a bridgie. Yeah,
- 10:56Speaker 4: he's a bridgie. Receiver. He's not a stiff. This guy's
- 10:59Speaker 4: the fourteenth overall pick in the draft in twenty fifteen.
- 11:02Speaker 4: I absolutely loved him coming out of Louisville for Miami.
- 11:07Speaker 4: He's never really panned out to be that. Right, He's
- 11:10Speaker 4: not a bust, but he's not a star either and
- 11:13Speaker 4: has never been one of the better receivers in football.
- 11:16Speaker 4: He's never been healthy and oh, by the way, he
- 11:18Speaker 4: wasn't healthy last year when he missed four games and
- 11:21Speaker 4: really missed six games because there was two that he
- 11:24Speaker 4: barely even played in. So he's the kind of guy
- 11:29Speaker 4: that you plug in and we're a little bit weak
- 11:32Speaker 4: at receiver. He can give us something until we can
- 11:36Speaker 4: get what Evan wants, you know, the stud But my
- 11:39Speaker 4: concern now, this is to me putting off like addressing
- 11:43Speaker 4: the position, and.
- 11:43Speaker 5: To me, that's my concern. My concern is that and
- 11:46Speaker 5: this is kind of across the board, honestly, in a
- 11:48Speaker 5: lot of positions with the team, but especially on offense,
- 11:51Speaker 5: they just like seem to be content with fine Like, Okay,
- 11:53Speaker 5: he's a fine player, he plays a role. I think
- 11:57Speaker 5: that a big part of it is what Alex was
- 11:59Speaker 5: talking about a little bit early that this is a
- 12:01Speaker 5: guy that's put his head down, that's worked hard, that's
- 12:04Speaker 5: played ball. He hasn't spoken out in the media. He
- 12:07Speaker 5: wasn't one of those guys last year in the locker
- 12:08Speaker 5: room that was ripping the coaching staff. It's just the
- 12:10Speaker 5: TWI yeah, doing all that kind of stuff. And they
- 12:15Speaker 5: took care of one of those guys. But are they content,
- 12:19Speaker 5: like are they okay? Like do they feel that they're
- 12:22Speaker 5: fine at wide receiver? Because just for what it's worth,
- 12:26Speaker 5: you know, Bill Barnwell did his annual supporting cast. They
- 12:29Speaker 5: were twenty sixth in the league in weapons right playmakers
- 12:33Speaker 5: around the quarterback. PFF did it a couple of weeks ago.
- 12:36Speaker 5: They were twenty ninth in their rankings. So I think
- 12:40Speaker 5: they are a little bit better than that maybe, but
- 12:43Speaker 5: I'm not. I don't think that their world's better. I
- 12:45Speaker 5: think that they're right in that twenty to twenty five
- 12:47Speaker 5: range probably. And where is the where's the needle mover?
- 12:52Speaker 7: Like?
- 12:52Speaker 5: Where where's a difference maker in this group? And if
- 12:55Speaker 5: you're committed to Devonte Parker for let's call it a year,
- 12:58Speaker 5: maybe two, and you're committed to Juji Smith Schuster for
- 13:00Speaker 5: a year or two like, there's not a whole, there's
- 13:04Speaker 5: not a lot of other targets to go around, there's
- 13:06Speaker 5: not a lot of snaps to go around, and you
- 13:07Speaker 5: still have the two tight ends that you want to
- 13:09Speaker 5: incorporate too. I think this means less chance of DeAndre Hopkins.
- 13:14Speaker 5: It probably means less opportunity for Taekwon Thornton.
- 13:18Speaker 4: Okay, I want to get to that as step two. Okay,
- 13:21Speaker 4: And this is Paul is quote unquote worried about everything.
- 13:27Speaker 4: You know, we talked about this on Tuesday, and I
- 13:29Speaker 4: do I have. I grew up in New England, and
- 13:32Speaker 4: unlike you young folk, I didn't grow up with nothing
- 13:35Speaker 4: but championships.
- 13:36Speaker 2: I had a lot of five years of my left
- 13:39Speaker 2: no chance.
- 13:39Speaker 4: I hate you. I had a lot of time where
- 13:43Speaker 4: my team consistently fell short. So I'm always thinking in
- 13:47Speaker 4: those terms, like I could prevent us from when like,
- 13:50Speaker 4: you know, how can something go because I, you know,
- 13:53Speaker 4: my first thirty five years, they were always coming up short.
- 13:58Speaker 4: So what I worry about is does this mean they
- 14:01Speaker 4: don't love Taekwon Thoughton? Yeah, they haven't seen that big
- 14:04Speaker 4: year two sort of progression lesser but still sort of
- 14:10Speaker 4: part of this equation. Do they see nothing of the
- 14:13Speaker 4: two sixth round picks. You know, Booty and Douglas. You know,
- 14:18Speaker 4: if you're looking to get I saw a lot of
- 14:20Speaker 4: people write, well, they only had somebody wrote and I
- 14:25Speaker 4: thought this was an odd phraseology they only had one
- 14:28Speaker 4: veteran receiver signed next year Juju. Well, I don't know
- 14:32Speaker 4: why Taekwon Thornton doesn't count as a veteran receiver. Sign
- 14:34Speaker 4: like going into year three, you're a veteran receiver, which
- 14:37Speaker 4: was what Thornton would be in twenty four. Like that's
- 14:42Speaker 4: not like you like you take a guy in the
- 14:45Speaker 4: second round in his third year, You're you're not anticipating
- 14:48Speaker 4: him being a big part of your passing game. That's
- 14:51Speaker 4: what I worry about it, right, and I worry about
- 14:54Speaker 4: things that haven't happened yet that I know.
- 14:55Speaker 5: I'm worrying about the same thing because when you look
- 14:57Speaker 5: at it, where this Like where are the targets and
- 15:01Speaker 5: the opportunities for Taekwon Thornton? And the only way that
- 15:04Speaker 5: players like him that are raw, you know, physical specimens
- 15:08Speaker 5: with great speed. Those guys need to just play like that.
- 15:11Speaker 5: You don't, you don't develop in any other way besides
- 15:14Speaker 5: just playing. And now Taekwon realistically is your third receiver
- 15:19Speaker 5: because you paid Juju, you paid Devonte Parker. You're gonna
- 15:23Speaker 5: have those two guys out there. And now if Hopkins
- 15:26Speaker 5: comes into the mix too, now he's your fourth receiver
- 15:29Speaker 5: and he's demoted to the bench permanently for the entire
- 15:32Speaker 5: year pretty much. So I again, but my whole thing
- 15:36Speaker 5: with it, I don't mind DeVante Parker as a player.
- 15:38Speaker 5: What I mind is is there their evaluation and sort
- 15:42Speaker 5: of how they treat the position as a whole.
- 15:44Speaker 4: Yeah. I don't mind Parker as a player either. I
- 15:46Speaker 4: think he's he's fine. I just would think that you
- 15:49Speaker 4: wouldn't necessarily be looking to extend him. Yeah, And I
- 15:54Speaker 4: think that he was extended because of what you guys
- 15:56Speaker 4: were talking about, you know, instead of bitching about Matt
- 16:00Speaker 4: Patricia last year. He didn't really have anything to say
- 16:03Speaker 4: about that. And you know, I think he did express
- 16:06Speaker 4: a little bit of you know, I don't know, discontent.
- 16:12Speaker 4: I don't know what the right word. I don't think
- 16:14Speaker 4: he was pissed, but he was a little salty when
- 16:16Speaker 4: talking about Hopkins, and maybe this was an olive branch
- 16:20Speaker 4: to him. Like, you know, we still think a lot
- 16:22Speaker 4: of you. I know that Bill last summer, I know
- 16:28Speaker 4: that he was very high on what Parker might be
- 16:31Speaker 4: able to bring to the offense. But I don't really
- 16:35Speaker 4: think he brought that to the offense. I think he
- 16:37Speaker 4: was fine. I think he was okay, But I don't
- 16:40Speaker 4: think he was anything that you would go out of
- 16:42Speaker 4: your way to try to extend. I just thought it
- 16:45Speaker 4: was an odd move, not anything that's going to kill you.
- 16:47Speaker 4: It's not big money or anything like that. Don't get
- 16:49Speaker 4: caught up into three years, thirty three million. That's paper money,
- 16:53Speaker 4: that's not real.
- 16:54Speaker 3: It's odd to do it around this time though, when
- 16:56Speaker 3: Hopkins is on the market. I guess that's a big
- 16:58Speaker 3: factor as well.
- 17:00Speaker 4: Yeah, and I don't think it has Like I'm kind
- 17:02Speaker 4: of with you guys on I think Hopkins could happen,
- 17:05Speaker 4: could still happen. I just wonder if they're sort of
- 17:10Speaker 4: Bill doesn't like the idea of being left waiting around,
- 17:15Speaker 4: you know, like, let us know what you're gonna do.
- 17:16Speaker 4: We need to plan. You know, you don't dictate when
- 17:19Speaker 4: you come in. We dictate if we want you in.
- 17:22Speaker 4: You know, one of those things. That's what I was
- 17:24Speaker 4: about with Hopkins.
- 17:25Speaker 5: I also saw it is maybe partially Hopkins contingency plan,
- 17:31Speaker 5: Like we have a guy that we feel good about
- 17:33Speaker 5: playing on the outside, playing a similar role to Hopkins,
- 17:36Speaker 5: that if it doesn't come together, you know, we at
- 17:39Speaker 5: least we have DeVante Parker in the fold, and now
- 17:41Speaker 5: DeVante Parker is happy and not pissed off that we
- 17:44Speaker 5: try to go after and replace him with DeAndre Hopkins.
- 17:46Speaker 5: But I think that's the other thing for me as
- 17:49Speaker 5: well that I wanted to ask the panel as I
- 17:51Speaker 5: facilitate here, is that you're.
- 17:54Speaker 4: Doing a great job. Thank you, good job facilitating.
- 17:57Speaker 5: I do see a little bit of redundancy between Parker
- 18:02Speaker 5: and Hopkins and if they bring both, if they bring
- 18:05Speaker 5: Hopkins in and they have retained Parker, obviously, how does
- 18:10Speaker 5: that look like? Like how does that work with having
- 18:13Speaker 5: a group that is pretty much similar across the board?
- 18:18Speaker 4: Like and also Parker's outside and and yeah, and I
- 18:21Speaker 4: guess Hopkins is inside. But I don't really know. We
- 18:25Speaker 4: thought that Bourne might be a better candidate to go.
- 18:27Speaker 4: Certainly you and Mike especially felt like Bourne would be
- 18:31Speaker 4: more apt to go than Parker. But I mean, I
- 18:34Speaker 4: don't know, there is some redundancy today. I think there's
- 18:37Speaker 4: similar skill sets anyway.
- 18:39Speaker 5: Yeah, I always thought that that Bourne was more. I
- 18:42Speaker 5: didn't want to think that. I didn't want to believe that.
- 18:44Speaker 5: But at some point, the things that Bourne says in
- 18:47Speaker 5: the media, in the way that he handles himself with
- 18:50Speaker 5: this organization, that's going to come back to bite you eventually. Like,
- 18:53Speaker 5: eventually that's going to be an issue. It was an
- 18:55Speaker 5: issue for him last year with not playing, but it
- 18:58Speaker 5: was going to be a bigger issue if it cantinued.
- 19:00Speaker 5: And I thought that he had an opportunity in the
- 19:02Speaker 5: spring and in his media sessions and OTAs to put
- 19:07Speaker 5: that to bed and just kind of say, we're not
- 19:09Speaker 5: talking about, you know, we're onto this year.
- 19:10Speaker 4: We're not talking about like sprinkle a little kerosene on it.
- 19:15Speaker 5: And he kind of did the opposite, right, right, And
- 19:17Speaker 5: so I have to imagine that it Bourne's comments in
- 19:21Speaker 5: the spring didn't necessarily go over well uh with the
- 19:25Speaker 5: people down the hall. I just feel like that had
- 19:28Speaker 5: to have finally been like, we're still doing this, We're
- 19:31Speaker 5: still going through the media.
- 19:32Speaker 4: If they signed Hopkins, I wouldn't be surprised if Born goes, yeah,
- 19:35Speaker 4: let's just put it that way.
- 19:36Speaker 6: Well, then you're just even in a worse situation, well
- 19:38Speaker 6: not necessarily worse, but like the situation last year, it
- 19:41Speaker 6: was like all these receivers and where do repsk go?
- 19:45Speaker 6: Who's I mean, Aguilar was the easy guy to just
- 19:48Speaker 6: kind of put to the side, and then Kendrick obviously
- 19:50Speaker 6: didn't play a lot. But I don't know, it just
- 19:53Speaker 6: feels like we're in such a similar situation to last year,
- 19:55Speaker 6: and this is a contract year for MAC and it's
- 19:58Speaker 6: just like, what's the plan?
- 20:01Speaker 5: Yeah, it's again. I think that there is a little
- 20:05Speaker 5: bit of a of a commitment to to mid right now.
- 20:09Speaker 4: And again like don't don't mistake this conversation with We're
- 20:13Speaker 4: all like, what are they doing? This is gonna set
- 20:16Speaker 4: them bet No, No, It's just kind of one of
- 20:19Speaker 4: those moves that you wonder why it had to be made. Yeah,
- 20:22Speaker 4: not that it's going to disrupt anything. I don't think
- 20:24Speaker 4: they sunk any real cap dollars that are guaranteed that
- 20:28Speaker 4: are going to hand. I don't think it's going to
- 20:29Speaker 4: prevent them from doing anything. It actually could help them
- 20:34Speaker 4: to do some stuff because it probably adds a little flexibility.
- 20:38Speaker 4: I just thought it was one of those odd things
- 20:40Speaker 4: that didn't necessarily need to be done.
- 20:42Speaker 5: Definitely did not expect that that news to break, And
- 20:44Speaker 5: I think, like a lot of people, when I saw
- 20:48Speaker 5: Patriots and Wide Receiver, I thought it was a different
- 20:50Speaker 5: breaking needs.
- 20:53Speaker 4: Yeah. I was driving home. I saw my buddy Evan
- 20:57Speaker 4: Blizzar on our little slack chat. I got the port
- 21:00Speaker 4: up there and I was like, whoa, and I look
- 21:03Speaker 4: and I was like, oh, that's not what I was expecting.
- 21:05Speaker 4: I put my phone back down.
- 21:06Speaker 5: Yeah, our amazing social manager Neil called me slacked me.
- 21:14Speaker 5: I think he texted me too, in the span of
- 21:16Speaker 5: like three minutes about having to get up a post
- 21:19Speaker 5: about Devanta Parker's extension.
- 21:21Speaker 6: That's because I put it in the social squad slack
- 21:24Speaker 6: and I realize you're not in the social square.
- 21:26Speaker 5: I am actually in that slack. Oh, so don't worry.
- 21:28Speaker 5: I saw it.
- 21:29Speaker 4: But it was funny because I have.
- 21:33Speaker 5: I have alerts obviously on my phone for rap Sheet
- 21:37Speaker 5: and Schefter, so my phone goes off and if they
- 21:40Speaker 5: tweet anything, let you know, breaking news like that, I
- 21:42Speaker 5: was like, I got it, I got it. But yeah,
- 21:44Speaker 5: it was it was definitely surprising to see that that
- 21:47Speaker 5: come down.
- 21:48Speaker 4: Last night.
- 21:48Speaker 5: You mentioned we mentioned Hopkins a lot, you mentioned Dalvin
- 21:51Speaker 5: Cook a little bit.
- 21:52Speaker 3: Dalvin Cook replied to a Pat McAfee video saying, I
- 21:56Speaker 3: don't have the audio here, but I believe they mentioned
- 21:58Speaker 3: he took a visit to the Dolphins, and then Dalvin
- 22:01Speaker 3: Cook tweeted, I declined a visit just so you know
- 22:03Speaker 3: my guy.
- 22:03Speaker 5: So so he's going this is I'm very confused because he.
- 22:08Speaker 4: I don't know what that means. I'm confused that was
- 22:10Speaker 4: what that means.
- 22:11Speaker 2: So he declined the find a visit to the Dolphins, but.
- 22:14Speaker 5: He also says this guy yesterday.
- 22:16Speaker 3: The guy is Pat McAfee. O Pat McAfee clip. And
- 22:19Speaker 3: then he quote tweeted it saying I declined to.
- 22:21Speaker 4: Visit, okay, but he also in Miami. To be a
- 22:26Speaker 4: lot more clear, he also said yesterday.
- 22:28Speaker 5: And then there was his agent did some did some
- 22:31Speaker 5: you know pr right, because Dalvin Cook treated something cryptic
- 22:36Speaker 5: about how he didn't meet with the team that was
- 22:39Speaker 5: being disgusted, everybody took it as Miami, and.
- 22:41Speaker 4: Then there any other kind of tweet from a player that's.
- 22:44Speaker 5: Not crypt right, And then and then all this came
- 22:46Speaker 5: out about him saying no, no, no, like he still
- 22:50Speaker 5: is open to playing for the Dolphins, and he didn't
- 22:52Speaker 5: turn down any visits. But now he's saying he did
- 22:54Speaker 5: turn out, So did he or did he not?
- 22:55Speaker 3: He said he said he declined a visit. Jeez, I
- 22:59Speaker 3: could have Matt listened to the video because I want
- 23:00Speaker 3: to play it over the air.
- 23:01Speaker 4: But I got to be honest, I don't really have
- 23:04Speaker 4: a whole lot of interest in Dalvin Cook. As much
- 23:06Speaker 4: as I love the player, I.
- 23:08Speaker 3: Think it's complimentary. It's like when we talked about the draft,
- 23:11Speaker 3: if the Pats took Jon Robbins.
- 23:12Speaker 4: I think all that's going to do is make you
- 23:14Speaker 4: run the ball more, which makes you less relevant. I mean, iay, NFL.
- 23:19Speaker 3: It's it's a bonus to have him, but I don't
- 23:21Speaker 3: think it's the end of the world. You don't get
- 23:22Speaker 3: him like he got Romondre Stevenson. You got the young guys.
- 23:25Speaker 4: So yeah, it's implementary.
- 23:27Speaker 5: The running back market is really fascinating, and I'm getting
- 23:31Speaker 5: to the point where it could be another Belichick zig
- 23:35Speaker 5: where everybody else's EAGs with the running backs. And that's
- 23:38Speaker 5: the only reason why I would leave the door slightly
- 23:40Speaker 5: a jar for maybe that.
- 23:42Speaker 4: I'm not saying they won't want the receiver. You're taking
- 23:45Speaker 4: the running back, right, the main thing ever you want,
- 23:48Speaker 4: you're not going to get.
- 23:49Speaker 5: These veteran running backs. And I say, I mean Dalvin
- 23:51Speaker 5: Cook's twenty seven. It's not like he's thirty three, right.
- 23:54Speaker 5: These guys can't get paid. You know, he's a free
- 23:56Speaker 5: agent for It's a free agent Zeke Elliot, it's a
- 23:59Speaker 5: free agent Kareem Hunt. Josh Jacobs is holding out on
- 24:04Speaker 5: the franchise, Saquon's holding out. So it's a it's an
- 24:08Speaker 5: epidemic right now with the running backs that that their
- 24:11Speaker 5: market value just isn't really there. And the only position
- 24:16Speaker 5: where the franchise tag is decreasing in value is running backs.
- 24:21Speaker 5: It's going up exponentially across the board except for one position.
- 24:25Speaker 5: And at some point does it become a bargain to
- 24:28Speaker 5: have Dalvin Cook at six million dollars for a guy
- 24:32Speaker 5: that's made four consecutive Pro Bowls, that's put up huge
- 24:35Speaker 5: numbers in Minnesota. That's why I don't rule it out,
- 24:38Speaker 5: because I don't know if the market is necessarily there
- 24:41Speaker 5: for a guy like Dalvin Cook the way that you
- 24:44Speaker 5: would think it would be, given his his Cachet in
- 24:48Speaker 5: the league.
- 24:48Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, I mean, like I said, I don't dismiss
- 24:51Speaker 4: him getting signed. I just don't think it's a needle
- 24:53Speaker 4: mover if he does. I really don't like Hopkins. I
- 24:56Speaker 4: think if if Hopkins pans out and he remains that
- 25:01Speaker 4: one hundred catch guy, I think that could change your
- 25:04Speaker 4: offense a little bit. And I don't know how much
- 25:06Speaker 4: that catches you up to everybody else in the AFC,
- 25:09Speaker 4: but it could change your offense. I think having another
- 25:11Speaker 4: good running back, Like I think Stevenson's pretty good, it's
- 25:17Speaker 4: I think Coke is better. He is probably more talented,
- 25:19Speaker 4: certainly more of a home run threat I was, Yeah,
- 25:22Speaker 4: more explosive. But I don't know how much better that
- 25:25Speaker 4: makes your offense. But you, so this is.
- 25:28Speaker 5: A big thing, is do you trust what they have
- 25:31Speaker 5: behind Stevenson? You know, taking it now?
- 25:33Speaker 4: That's a totally fair point. But that's kind of like,
- 25:36Speaker 4: I don't think he's coming in for like a million, right,
- 25:39Speaker 4: Like you want to give a guy like six eight
- 25:41Speaker 4: million to come in as insurance. I no, I wonder
- 25:47Speaker 4: if if you wanted to make it, if you just
- 25:49Speaker 4: wanted to make him the centerpiece of your offense then
- 25:51Speaker 4: I don't care. Yeah, if you just think that Coke
- 25:54Speaker 4: is so much better than Stevenson and you want to
- 25:57Speaker 4: ride with him, then you know me, I don't really
- 25:59Speaker 4: care about the money.
- 26:01Speaker 5: I don't care about the money either. I think you know,
- 26:03Speaker 5: similar to Parker and Hopkins, they can't play together. Like,
- 26:07Speaker 5: you're not gonna run two running back sets with part
- 26:10Speaker 5: with Stevenson and Cook on the field together, right, That doesn't.
- 26:13Speaker 4: So if Stevenson gets hurt, then Cook make your team better. Yeah, Like,
- 26:16Speaker 4: if Stevenson doesn't get hurt, I agree with you. They're
- 26:19Speaker 4: not going to play together. So how much better are you?
- 26:24Speaker 5: Is it worth it to just to play Devil's advocate
- 26:27Speaker 5: because I am in the host chair? Is it worth
- 26:29Speaker 5: it to give one hundred and fifty carries to Remonderate
- 26:34Speaker 5: and one hundred and fifty carries to Dalvin Cook? And
- 26:36Speaker 5: they kind of have this one two punch where they're
- 26:38Speaker 5: trading series and trading off you know, situations and things
- 26:42Speaker 5: like that, and then by the end of the season
- 26:43Speaker 5: they're both still as close to one hundred percent as
- 26:46Speaker 5: they possibly could be.
- 26:47Speaker 4: That would be the ideal situation, I would say, I agree, sir, sure.
- 26:52Speaker 5: Matisse wants Dalvin Cook.
- 26:56Speaker 4: From Matista that I can't use on the age. It
- 27:01Speaker 4: starts with star and what's something you can't say because that's.
- 27:06Speaker 5: Because Matisa is a is a company man and he
- 27:09Speaker 5: realizes like I do that DeAndre Hopkins and Dalvin Cook
- 27:13Speaker 5: moves the needle.
- 27:14Speaker 2: For us the web traffic.
- 27:15Speaker 3: Yeah, last year. Last year was the first time, like
- 27:19Speaker 3: I would go to the bathroom when the paths were
- 27:21Speaker 3: on offense, Like I wasn't excited. There was nothing that
- 27:24Speaker 3: I looked forward to on offense. Defensive was absolutely putrid.
- 27:28Speaker 3: And if we have Dalvin Cook DeAndre Hopkins, like something
- 27:31Speaker 3: will happen.
- 27:32Speaker 4: So she's just like, we got to punch, so we
- 27:33Speaker 4: have a chance to score.
- 27:34Speaker 3: No, but then Pollardi was punting, which to this.
- 27:36Speaker 4: But as long as we were punting the ball, we
- 27:38Speaker 4: had a chance to.
- 27:39Speaker 3: Get There you go, There you go.
- 27:41Speaker 5: But Marcus Jones on the field, Yeah, that's.
- 27:44Speaker 3: It, Marcus Jones. Marcus he could be our backup running
- 27:46Speaker 3: back too.
- 27:47Speaker 5: There you go. All right, Should we take some of
- 27:49Speaker 5: these calls eight five to five pats five hundred the
- 27:51Speaker 5: phone lines. We didn't have to ask for calls today, Paul,
- 27:53Speaker 5: the phone lines.
- 27:54Speaker 4: There no we are, Yeah, definitely better off. It's you
- 27:57Speaker 4: a facilitation. I think I also know for a fact
- 28:01Speaker 4: how to do this. Oh, I know how to do it.
- 28:03Speaker 4: You have to do the other one.
- 28:05Speaker 5: I know for a fact that when I hit uh,
- 28:08Speaker 5: you know the button here for Eldred to talk about
- 28:11Speaker 5: this DeVante Parker contract, that Eldred, I feel like you're
- 28:14Speaker 5: gonna have a pretty strong take on this, my man.
- 28:17Speaker 4: What's up?
- 28:18Speaker 8: Hey?
- 28:19Speaker 6: Hey?
- 28:19Speaker 9: Doing everybody? Paul Alex? Uh, everybody's there? Hey? No, I
- 28:25Speaker 9: don't like that during move he's gonna pay a thirty
- 28:27Speaker 9: old thirty three billion, you know, Like I said, this
- 28:31Speaker 9: is typical Bill, and that's why I said. That's why
- 28:34Speaker 9: I said we would never have a Star wide receiver
- 28:37Speaker 9: as long as he's in the GM chair. I'm sorry.
- 28:39Speaker 9: I just don't like some of his moves. Yeah, y'all
- 28:41Speaker 9: say he moved the needle a little bit, but no,
- 28:43Speaker 9: he don't. And what he said about Mac. I think
- 28:47Speaker 9: he don't like Mac, to be honest with you, because
- 28:50Speaker 9: he ain't doing nothing really trying to help him. Let
- 28:51Speaker 9: anybody else do. I think he's after last year, he
- 28:55Speaker 9: saw it because he got rid of one of his
- 28:56Speaker 9: top guys. And he's not doing nothing to help him. Man,
- 29:00Speaker 9: And that's my only take on it. I'm not a
- 29:03Speaker 9: big Mac fan, but least get a guy shot, you
- 29:06Speaker 9: know what I mean. Least give me a shot in Thornton.
- 29:10Speaker 9: I'm like you, Evan, I played run off the bat.
- 29:12Speaker 9: That's the one where he gets better with their speed.
- 29:14Speaker 9: Just can't sit there and coach him like that. You
- 29:16Speaker 9: gotta let him play. But Bill always liked start his veterans.
- 29:21Speaker 9: Didn't start a rookie or second your guy unless he
- 29:24Speaker 9: proves something. What do y'all think?
- 29:26Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm with you, Eligra, Thanks for the call. That's
- 29:28Speaker 5: sort of where I'm coming from from the from this
- 29:32Speaker 5: DeVante Parker extension is just it's another move to me
- 29:38Speaker 5: that tells me that they are not going to be
- 29:41Speaker 5: big investors in the wide wide receiver position. And you
- 29:43Speaker 5: can talk about it from any angle, whether it's cap space,
- 29:47Speaker 5: whether it's draft capital, or a combination of the two.
- 29:51Speaker 5: You we were walking down here Tis and I was talking,
- 29:53Speaker 5: They're never gonna make that Tyreek Hill trade. They're never
- 29:55Speaker 5: gonna do something like that as long as Belichick's here.
- 29:58Speaker 5: They're never gonna make the aj Brown trade. The Stefon
- 30:00Speaker 5: Diggs trade like that's just they're not gonna do it.
- 30:03Speaker 5: And I think that is disappointing because the way the
- 30:07Speaker 5: rest of the league has has done things in recent years,
- 30:12Speaker 5: that's what everybody else is doing, right. And you look
- 30:14Speaker 5: at I just take a small sample of the final
- 30:18Speaker 5: four teams last year. You have Kansas City, which has
- 30:21Speaker 5: the best quarterback in the game. They also have Travis Kelce.
- 30:24Speaker 5: You have the Bengals, who we talked about last week
- 30:26Speaker 5: might have the best receiver room in football. You have
- 30:29Speaker 5: the forty nine ers on the other side who trade
- 30:31Speaker 5: for Christian McCaffrey in the middle of the season despite
- 30:34Speaker 5: already having George Kittle and Brandon night yuk and a
- 30:37Speaker 5: good supporting cast, and then obviously Philly with their two
- 30:40Speaker 5: headed monster at receiver. So the results are are starting
- 30:44Speaker 5: to turn to the point where the teams that are
- 30:46Speaker 5: winning are investing in that position big time. And maybe
- 30:50Speaker 5: twenty years ago that wasn't the case. You know, you
- 30:53Speaker 5: had teams that invested first round picks and a lot
- 30:55Speaker 5: of caps based on star receivers, and it kind of
- 30:58Speaker 5: went the other way where that was worth the investment.
- 31:01Speaker 5: Now I feel like it's really proven out over the
- 31:03Speaker 5: last couple of years that it is worth the investment.
- 31:05Speaker 5: I just don't think that this team is ever gonna
- 31:08Speaker 5: change their philosophy of how they approach.
- 31:10Speaker 4: It's almost like it's an arms race and they're choosing
- 31:12Speaker 4: to try to fight it defensively.
- 31:14Speaker 3: Well, it's just so frustrating because you see you mentioned
- 31:17Speaker 3: the Eagles, they get aj Brown, Like, look what that
- 31:18Speaker 3: did for Jalen Hurts, I mean Garrett Wilson, Like, yeah,
- 31:21Speaker 3: Zach Wilson's not that great, but a couple of games
- 31:23Speaker 3: he went off like you's got to get your quarterback
- 31:26Speaker 3: a young.
- 31:26Speaker 4: I mean, I would say it was really significant for
- 31:29Speaker 4: with the Jets. The Jets like had no quarterback play
- 31:31Speaker 4: at all, and we're seven and four, yep, you know,
- 31:35Speaker 4: and then ultimately they couldn't finish it off because at
- 31:37Speaker 4: some point you need your quarterback to be able to
- 31:39Speaker 4: complete some passes and they had guys that couldn't do it.
- 31:42Speaker 10: Now.
- 31:43Speaker 4: So they ended up going seven to ten. But that
- 31:45Speaker 4: was because of everything around them, the defense, the receivers.
- 31:49Speaker 4: You know, until Breeze Hall towards ACL they had a
- 31:53Speaker 4: good running game. That's they had some weapons on offense.
- 31:56Speaker 4: They just didn't have a quarterback. Yeah.
- 31:58Speaker 5: I think though we all agree that one of the
- 32:01Speaker 5: guys that Bill respects his opinion the most in this
- 32:05Speaker 5: whole football world is Nick Saban. And I keep going
- 32:08Speaker 5: back to Sabin, and this is in the college game,
- 32:11Speaker 5: so it's not apples to Apps. But this was almost
- 32:14Speaker 5: a decade ago now that Sabin gave that. I think
- 32:18Speaker 5: it was at a coaching clinic or a press conference
- 32:20Speaker 5: or something like that, where he said, good defense isn't
- 32:24Speaker 5: good enough anymore. You can't play win games seventeen to
- 32:28Speaker 5: fourteen at this level anymore. And Alabama completely changed not
- 32:34Speaker 5: only their offensive system, but they completely changed their recruiting philosophy.
- 32:39Speaker 5: And all of a sudden, they have Jerry Judy and
- 32:43Speaker 5: Jamison Williams and Jalen Waddle and DeVante Smith and John
- 32:47Speaker 5: Metchi and Henry Ruggs and all these receivers coming through.
- 32:51Speaker 5: They're recruiting Tua and Bryce Young, five star, you know,
- 32:55Speaker 5: consensus top prospects out of high school at the quarterback position.
- 32:59Speaker 5: And they completely reinvented themselves from the team that they
- 33:02Speaker 5: used to be to light up the scoreboard. And Belichick
- 33:06Speaker 5: so far, at least, has been pretty reluctant to adapt
- 33:11Speaker 5: and to change to that philosophy. And maybe in the
- 33:13Speaker 5: long run, and I look like an idiot, he ends
- 33:15Speaker 5: up being right, and they they win with defense and
- 33:19Speaker 5: ball control and you know, limiting turnovers offensively and good
- 33:24Speaker 5: special teams and complimentary football, and maybe they end up
- 33:27Speaker 5: winning like that. But that just hasn't been the track
- 33:30Speaker 5: record have had the last handful of seasons. I think
- 33:33Speaker 5: you can when some games like that. I don't think
- 33:35Speaker 5: you can win at all like that.
- 33:36Speaker 3: Not Now just comes a time where you're gonna play
- 33:38Speaker 3: the Chiefs of the world, right, and you know you
- 33:41Speaker 3: gotta stop them.
- 33:42Speaker 5: I mean, you just look at the Super Bowl last year.
- 33:46Speaker 5: I saw Jason Kelsey has been trying to talk up
- 33:49Speaker 5: Hurts because I guess Hurts took the loss pretty hard
- 33:51Speaker 5: in the Super Bowl, and Kelsey was like, you played
- 33:53Speaker 5: a great game. What are you talking about?
- 33:55Speaker 4: You're fine.
- 33:56Speaker 5: Jalen Hurts had four hundred total yards and four touchdowns
- 33:59Speaker 5: in that game and lost.
- 34:01Speaker 4: Yeah, Yeah, he played a great game. Yeah, And it
- 34:05Speaker 4: was a circumstantial kind of a loss, like the way
- 34:07Speaker 4: it kind of unfolded. The Chiefs made the plays in
- 34:10Speaker 4: the fourth quarter. But I don't see a lot of
- 34:14Speaker 4: you know, seventeen to fourteen kind of wins. You know,
- 34:19Speaker 4: you know, it can happen, like an individual game, it
- 34:23Speaker 4: can happen. And I know a lot of people like
- 34:25Speaker 4: it was just twenty eighteen, the Patriots won the Super
- 34:27Speaker 4: Bowl thirteen to three, But they ignore the fact that
- 34:31Speaker 4: they scored you know, forty in the two playoff games
- 34:33Speaker 4: to get there.
- 34:34Speaker 3: Right.
- 34:37Speaker 4: I just feel like if you think you're gonna win
- 34:40Speaker 4: consistently over good teams that way, I think it's a
- 34:44Speaker 4: tough way to win, that's all. And I don't think
- 34:51Speaker 4: I don't think that you can play defense at that
- 34:53Speaker 4: level against good, good offenses. I think Saban's right. Yeah,
- 34:57Speaker 4: I think ultimately Saban is right. I think when you
- 34:59Speaker 4: play a good team, to expect to hold them under
- 35:04Speaker 4: twenty four is that's tough.
- 35:06Speaker 3: You need a crazy windstorm, That's what.
- 35:09Speaker 4: I'm saying, you know, Like, yeah, I mean there's gonna
- 35:12Speaker 4: be games that the other team's not gonna have, those
- 35:14Speaker 4: players aren't gonna be available. This is the way it
- 35:15Speaker 4: is in this league, you know. But like last year
- 35:19Speaker 4: even and I thought they were better defensively last year
- 35:22Speaker 4: than they were the previous year when they made the playoffs,
- 35:26Speaker 4: but even last year when they played you know, relatively
- 35:31Speaker 4: competent quarterbacks, they had a hard time. And the probably
- 35:36Speaker 4: the best defensive performance, to your point, was you know,
- 35:39Speaker 4: kind of fluky. Was like the second half against Cincinnati
- 35:42Speaker 4: where they didn't allow a lot of points. I don't
- 35:44Speaker 4: know how. I really don't know how they didn't allow
- 35:47Speaker 4: a lot of points, but they didn't, and ultimately they
- 35:53Speaker 4: you know, they had a chance to win the game
- 35:55Speaker 4: because of it. But I mean, if you watch that
- 35:57Speaker 4: game and you see the numbers that Burrow put up
- 35:59Speaker 4: and the numbers that the receivers put up, and you're like,
- 36:02Speaker 4: they had no answers really.
- 36:04Speaker 6: And that's just the perfect point to this, because as
- 36:06Speaker 6: good as the defense may have played in that second half,
- 36:08Speaker 6: the offense still lost the game for us.
- 36:10Speaker 4: So it's like, right, right, But I'm saying, if you
- 36:12Speaker 4: could play defense like that against the top offenses like they,
- 36:16Speaker 4: you know, like they didn't allow a lot of points
- 36:17Speaker 4: in the second half, if you could do that all
- 36:20Speaker 4: the time against good offenses, then your offense is gonna
- 36:23Speaker 4: be good enough for you to win games. You know, Traditionally,
- 36:27Speaker 4: I just don't think that you can count on holding
- 36:29Speaker 4: good offenses like that, Like the Bengals had almost five
- 36:32Speaker 4: hundred yards of offense in that game. I remember, I
- 36:34Speaker 4: don't know how they only had twenty two or whatever
- 36:37Speaker 4: points that at the end of the day. I don't
- 36:39Speaker 4: know how they only had that amount of points.
- 36:41Speaker 3: I remember pregame, somebody was I think it was Emma
- 36:43Speaker 3: was walking by Joe Burrow and he goes, I'm going
- 36:45Speaker 3: for three hundred to day he went for three seventy five,
- 36:47Speaker 3: three touchdowns. Like, none of these star quarterbacks are worried
- 36:50Speaker 3: about this defense at all last year.
- 36:52Speaker 5: Yeah, I just I don't think that any of these
- 36:54Speaker 5: star quarterbacks are worried about any defense.
- 36:56Speaker 4: No, no, no, that's my larger point.
- 36:58Speaker 5: Yeah, And I think that's that's where you still get
- 37:02Speaker 5: into the stat that I have to update. So I
- 37:05Speaker 5: don't know off the top of my head what their
- 37:07Speaker 5: OPHRA record is now, But when the opponent scores more
- 37:09Speaker 5: than twenty five points against the Patriots in the mac
- 37:12Speaker 5: Jones era, I think they're oh to fourteen at this
- 37:14Speaker 5: point in those games, and at some point you have
- 37:18Speaker 5: to be able to win thirty eight thirty five. You
- 37:22Speaker 5: have to be able to win what was that was
- 37:24Speaker 5: the score of the AFC Championship game in eighteen, Right
- 37:26Speaker 5: it was thirty thirty seven thirty Yeah, something like that. Right,
- 37:31Speaker 5: So you have to be able to win a game
- 37:33Speaker 5: along the way in a shootout, and you have to
- 37:36Speaker 5: have your quarterback and your offense be able to outscore
- 37:39Speaker 5: somebody every once in a while. And it's just hard
- 37:43Speaker 5: to envision like where that offense is coming from, even
- 37:46Speaker 5: if you project Bill O'Brien really upgrading the system, and
- 37:50Speaker 5: even if you project Mac Jones taking a step forward,
- 37:53Speaker 5: like where are the playmakers and where how is the
- 37:56Speaker 5: consistency get going to get to the point where you're
- 37:58Speaker 5: putting together fives six scoring drives in a game out
- 38:01Speaker 5: of ten?
- 38:02Speaker 4: You know?
- 38:02Speaker 5: It just that's the part of this whole thing that
- 38:05Speaker 5: worries me. But a we're all like, I feel like
- 38:10Speaker 5: we're all on the same page that it's not about
- 38:12Speaker 5: Devonte Parker though, right, It's about the philosophy of the
- 38:17Speaker 5: team building that that's going on.
- 38:19Speaker 4: You know when ultimately you know, and I think this
- 38:21Speaker 4: is what Alex was getting at early in the show,
- 38:24Speaker 4: like you have decisions that are going to be coming
- 38:26Speaker 4: soon on Mac Jones, You have to figure it out,
- 38:29Speaker 4: and I think that that's going to be ultimately what
- 38:32Speaker 4: decides whether or not they have the offense to keep up.
- 38:35Speaker 4: We can talk about bringing in Hopkins, we can talk
- 38:38Speaker 4: about bringing in Cook, but if the quarterback can't consistently
- 38:41Speaker 4: drive the ball into tight coverage and make plays and,
- 38:45Speaker 4: as Evan says, get it locked up in a shootout
- 38:48Speaker 4: and come out the other side the winner, it's not
- 38:52Speaker 4: gonna matter.
- 38:53Speaker 3: I just see a mac Jones situation similar to Danny Dimes,
- 38:56Speaker 3: where like he's okay, above average, and you're paying him
- 39:00Speaker 3: what was it, one hundred and forty million, because that's
- 39:02Speaker 3: the market value.
- 39:03Speaker 4: Yeah, I would say no on that. I don't see
- 39:07Speaker 4: them doing that.
- 39:08Speaker 3: No, I don't see them doing it. But like they're
- 39:10Speaker 3: a good chance Mac Jones will get paid somewhere.
- 39:12Speaker 5: So that that's the as soon as Daniel Jones's contract.
- 39:16Speaker 5: As soon as Daniel Jones' contract came out, though, assuming
- 39:21Speaker 5: that Mac has a year that's maybe more reflective of
- 39:24Speaker 5: his rookie season and maybe even a little bit better.
- 39:26Speaker 5: I said, immediately when his agent goes to the negotiating
- 39:30Speaker 5: table on his contract extension, that's that's the contract that
- 39:35Speaker 5: I'm looking at if I'm his agent.
- 39:37Speaker 4: And I think they'll pick up the fifty year option. Yeah,
- 39:39Speaker 4: to put it off for another year. He'll play it
- 39:42Speaker 4: out and then then they'll see because I don't think
- 39:46Speaker 4: they're going to give him that kind of a contract.
- 39:48Speaker 4: I don't think so either.
- 39:49Speaker 5: And ultimately, if he, let's say in year four, year five,
- 39:52Speaker 5: he has like an MVP caliber season and now it
- 39:54Speaker 5: becomes worth it to pay him that money, then that
- 39:57Speaker 5: that changes the equation. But he's to your point, that's
- 40:00Speaker 5: the market value now even for just like a serviceable
- 40:03Speaker 5: NFL starter, And it's it's similar in terms of apy
- 40:06Speaker 5: to you know what Derek Carr got a couple of
- 40:08Speaker 5: years ago. Now, Derek carr structure was very different than
- 40:11Speaker 5: Daniel Jones is, but it's thirty thirty five million dollars
- 40:15Speaker 5: a year of really mostly guaranteed money because they're quarterbacks.
- 40:20Speaker 5: So it's it's not really like you know, this DeVante
- 40:23Speaker 5: Parker contract, where I mean, kudos to his agent for
- 40:26Speaker 5: for putting three thirty three.
- 40:29Speaker 6: Yeah, we should probably comment that they're getting ready for
- 40:32Speaker 6: Ed Sheeran this weekend.
- 40:34Speaker 4: A lot of stuff, there's a lot of stuff going
- 40:36Speaker 4: on at the stadium.
- 40:37Speaker 2: Kills louder than Taylor Swift, though I don't know.
- 40:41Speaker 4: Who do we?
- 40:42Speaker 5: Who does Paul have to call Paul is the one
- 40:43Speaker 5: with the sway here? Who does Paul have to call
- 40:47Speaker 5: it against?
- 40:48Speaker 2: Sharon?
- 40:49Speaker 4: Yes?
- 40:49Speaker 5: Ed Seron?
- 40:50Speaker 4: Yes? Do you guys like Ed Cheeron? I don't know.
- 40:53Speaker 2: I like Ed Sharon. I don't love he's very talented.
- 40:58Speaker 4: I don't love he is very I think. And there's
- 41:01Speaker 4: a couple of songs that I really like. A perfect
- 41:04Speaker 4: So perfect is.
- 41:05Speaker 2: A perfect.
- 41:07Speaker 5: A little bit a couple I saw him do something
- 41:12Speaker 5: on TV, like one of the like the Grammys or
- 41:15Speaker 5: something like that, where he like synthesized the whole thing
- 41:17Speaker 5: like by himself on stage and he was playing guitar
- 41:21Speaker 5: and like he had the drums all set and he
- 41:23Speaker 5: was like using his feet to like play the bassline
- 41:27Speaker 5: of the song. It wasn't that was incredible. That was
- 41:29Speaker 5: pretty cool. I'm not a big ed cheering guy, but.
- 41:33Speaker 2: You respect the talent that.
- 41:36Speaker 4: Some of the songs like. I know that people some
- 41:39Speaker 4: of them just look at like, oh, it's poppy, it's
- 41:41Speaker 4: pop music. Who cares? Like perfect is a great song? Yeah,
- 41:45Speaker 4: it's a great song that other one that's a good
- 41:48Speaker 4: song too.
- 41:48Speaker 2: He also has more good songs than you think A
- 41:52Speaker 2: Thrones too.
- 41:53Speaker 5: I know, I don't like Aaron Rodgers, so Ed Sharon
- 41:58Speaker 5: wasn't a Game of Thrones can And I always remember
- 42:02Speaker 5: it because it was like so obviously Ed Sheeran whatever
- 42:09Speaker 5: they like for like three seconds just to be like, okay,
- 42:12Speaker 5: it's Ed Shearon that movie and I forget the name
- 42:17Speaker 5: of it, forgive me, but it's about the guy who
- 42:21Speaker 5: start He is like a fledgling like musician, but he
- 42:25Speaker 5: doesn't really have the talent to go anywhere, and he
- 42:28Speaker 5: somehow starts to like sing Beatles songs and no one
- 42:31Speaker 5: knows the Beles.
- 42:32Speaker 3: It's the English movie, right.
- 42:33Speaker 6: Yeah, and he's like in the future and he's it's
- 42:36Speaker 6: like he realizes the Beatles.
- 42:40Speaker 4: Nobody knows the Beatles, and people think that he's creating
- 42:44Speaker 4: all of these It's it's a funny movie. I mean
- 42:47Speaker 4: it's obviously goofy, but Ed Sharon is in the movie
- 42:50Speaker 4: and he's fantastic in it. And it's it's like they
- 42:54Speaker 4: have like a contest so you can create a song,
- 42:57Speaker 4: and he's just creating like a Beatles song that he
- 42:59Speaker 4: has song.
- 43:00Speaker 2: Yet that's funny.
- 43:01Speaker 4: It was. It was pretty funny.
- 43:03Speaker 5: I have a new found respect for for the for
- 43:06Speaker 5: the Beatles.
- 43:08Speaker 4: I feel like, you know, as I've aged analytics of
- 43:11Speaker 4: shining positively.
- 43:12Speaker 5: As a kid, I was like, I didn't really understand
- 43:15Speaker 5: the hype with the Beatles, you know, But but now
- 43:17Speaker 5: that I've gotten older and have a little bit more perspective,
- 43:20Speaker 5: I feel like it.
- 43:21Speaker 4: I was never like a big Beatles fan, but obviously
- 43:24Speaker 4: you talk about respecting the talent. I mean, that is insane.
- 43:27Speaker 4: I feel like that catalog is insane.
- 43:31Speaker 2: If you weren't into the Beatles, what were you into.
- 43:34Speaker 4: I like, I always like the Rolling Stones better than the.
- 43:36Speaker 6: Beatles, because I was going to say, like, there's probably
- 43:37Speaker 6: either Beatles feeple or like.
- 43:39Speaker 2: More rock people and stuffy. For me, it was Zeppelin.
- 43:43Speaker 4: To me, it was like that was before my time.
- 43:45Speaker 4: I know that you find that awfully hard to believe
- 43:47Speaker 4: because you're twelve, but.
- 43:48Speaker 2: That was I was twelve, because we're talking about thirty
- 43:51Speaker 2: years before my time out with the Garbage here, and
- 43:53Speaker 2: I'm like, that was.
- 43:54Speaker 4: That was like the Beatles, and even the Stones for
- 43:56Speaker 4: the most part, although the Laate Stones like start me
- 43:59Speaker 4: Up that was kind of middle school years. I was
- 44:02Speaker 4: never like really into that. I was more into, like,
- 44:05Speaker 4: I make fun of myself all the time, the disco
- 44:07Speaker 4: stuff nice. I was into the dance music likes Begi's
- 44:11Speaker 4: were awesome. Earth Winning Fire is the greatest school.
- 44:14Speaker 2: I love to getting after it at the club.
- 44:20Speaker 4: In town.
- 44:21Speaker 5: But they still got after it. They still throw down
- 44:23Speaker 5: in concert. Earth Winding Fire.
- 44:24Speaker 4: Oh well they uh they screw now they're saying after
- 44:29Speaker 4: a couple of super Bowl super Bowl Park.
- 44:31Speaker 5: Yeah, they can still do, they can still boogie. They
- 44:33Speaker 5: I saw them, I know, three or four years ago
- 44:35Speaker 5: now in a in a festival.
- 44:37Speaker 4: Commodore's great stuff.
- 44:39Speaker 6: Thinking Out Loud and Castle on the Hill also to
- 44:42Speaker 6: Fire and Surance.
- 44:43Speaker 4: Thinking out Thinking out Loud is another good one. I
- 44:45Speaker 4: don't love Castle on the Hill, but it's I mean,
- 44:47Speaker 4: it's good.
- 44:48Speaker 3: Good.
- 44:50Speaker 5: Should we fire through these calls before Paul's food gets here?
- 44:54Speaker 5: All right, Morgan and Vermont, what's up Morgan?
- 44:59Speaker 4: Morgan?
- 45:00Speaker 5: Morgan, you're on the air, you were for a while.
- 45:06Speaker 5: You call back, Morgan, We'll get you on. Uh, Patty
- 45:09Speaker 5: and agu on. What's up Patty?
- 45:13Speaker 4: Well, you've lost your facilitation cut because you.
- 45:17Speaker 5: Left him on the line, too long for too pat Patty?
- 45:21Speaker 2: All right, Patty callbacks.
- 45:22Speaker 4: Okay, this is what you have to as the felger maage.
- 45:25Speaker 4: You push away from the table if Spee's not here.
- 45:27Speaker 5: Speed, don't don't embarrass me. Speed, come on, speed.
- 45:35Speaker 2: On lines ringing, No, speed's ringing lines.
- 45:39Speaker 5: Ring and we're coming back. We're coming back.
- 45:41Speaker 4: Patty's coming back. That would be coming back. I don't
- 45:45Speaker 4: know about Morgan.
- 45:47Speaker 5: This is usually a catch twenty two problems because me
- 45:49Speaker 5: and for forty five minutes and the poor callers are
- 45:53Speaker 5: on hold for like an hour. Oh see, he was there.
- 45:56Speaker 3: That was me paying a hang up effect.
- 45:58Speaker 5: This is a new one and Fresnow what's up Cody?
- 46:03Speaker 11: Hey, guys, But I think the devout type Parker move,
- 46:06Speaker 11: it's not really surprising to me. I feel like it
- 46:08Speaker 11: makes a lot of sense, especially if you look at
- 46:10Speaker 11: the next free agent market for the receiver position. I
- 46:13Speaker 11: don't know if you guys are aware of it at
- 46:14Speaker 11: the moment.
- 46:16Speaker 4: Yeah no, But why why are you not surprised if
- 46:18Speaker 4: they resigned a thirty year old receiver and want them
- 46:20Speaker 4: on the team longer.
- 46:22Speaker 11: Well, what would be the other options? I mean, we
- 46:24Speaker 11: can draft go to that draft as our main resource.
- 46:27Speaker 11: But you know that's always a crap shoot, especially with
- 46:29Speaker 11: the history.
- 46:30Speaker 4: Well it's less of a crap shoot than banking on
- 46:33Speaker 4: a thirty one year old receiver staying healthy who hasn't
- 46:35Speaker 4: stayed healthy his whole career.
- 46:38Speaker 11: True black, I said, the history has never really been
- 46:40Speaker 11: good to us. I mean, Taekwon Thornton still isn't anything,
- 46:43Speaker 11: and he's been, you know, second round receiver.
- 46:45Speaker 4: I think, right. I mean that your alternative is develop
- 46:49Speaker 4: the players that you have, Yeah, the young guys that
- 46:51Speaker 4: you have developed them. Yeah, I mean I would put
- 46:54Speaker 4: the onus on the coaching staff to get more out
- 46:56Speaker 4: of some of these young guys that they haven't been
- 46:59Speaker 4: able to to get production from.
- 47:01Speaker 5: Yeah, I'd agree with that. And thanks for the call, Cody.
- 47:05Speaker 4: Uh.
- 47:06Speaker 5: We talked about this, I think during the draft season
- 47:09Speaker 5: Paul about you know how it's always the the old
- 47:12Speaker 5: cliche is that tackles are like the safe picks and
- 47:14Speaker 5: receivers are not. You know, are the ones that but
- 47:17Speaker 5: that's really not last like four or five years it
- 47:21Speaker 5: first round wide receivers almost across the board have really
- 47:25Speaker 5: succeeded in really big ways. Like I say, Justin Jefferson, Yeah,
- 47:31Speaker 5: you know, Jalen Wattle, Davante Smith, I mean, Ceedee Lamb,
- 47:34Speaker 5: Like all these guys have come into the league and
- 47:37Speaker 5: produced and been really good players for their team. So yeah,
- 47:42Speaker 5: the draft is a crapshoot, and yeah, the Patriots history
- 47:45Speaker 5: with drafting wide receivers hasn't been great. Now, the free
- 47:47Speaker 5: agent market at wide receiver is never good.
- 47:50Speaker 4: You know. You know, it's that when you have good ones,
- 47:52Speaker 4: you keep them right or.
- 47:54Speaker 5: They get traded, you know, for for capital. So I
- 47:57Speaker 5: don't I understand what the caller is saying that if
- 48:00Speaker 5: you look at who's going to be a free agent
- 48:02Speaker 5: next year, DeVante Parker probably would have been one of
- 48:05Speaker 5: the better free agents on the market if he stayed
- 48:08Speaker 5: healthy this year and produced. But I don't think that
- 48:10Speaker 5: necessarily says much because of the way that that position
- 48:13Speaker 5: typically is in free agency. All right, let's try uh,
- 48:18Speaker 5: let's try speak again. Speed Are you there now?
- 48:22Speaker 10: Can you hear me?
- 48:23Speaker 12: Houston?
- 48:23Speaker 4: We got you?
- 48:25Speaker 9: All right?
- 48:27Speaker 13: It was pretty pretty weird last Like last time, you
- 48:29Speaker 13: guys were talking about how Darry Ocean is and like
- 48:32Speaker 13: rip currents and swimming parallels to the shore and then
- 48:35Speaker 13: all of a sudden, Ryan Mallet, like it swallowed up
- 48:37Speaker 13: by a rip current the next day.
- 48:39Speaker 4: Yeah, and I didn't realize that that area is so.
- 48:41Speaker 2: Danger I read that like ten people.
- 48:44Speaker 3: Yeah this year.
- 48:46Speaker 2: Yeah, and we're talking like firefighters.
- 48:49Speaker 6: Obviously Mallet is a very probably strong guy, but I'll
- 48:53Speaker 6: mess with the ocean.
- 48:54Speaker 3: Well, you said to Scott, swim parallel, let it take
- 48:59Speaker 3: you out, and then you swim sideways to get by
- 49:01Speaker 3: the rep. That's what I was.
- 49:03Speaker 2: And if you're not taught that.
- 49:05Speaker 3: If you're not taught that also, like it's freaky as hell,
- 49:08Speaker 3: like like you never know what happens when situation pops up,
- 49:11Speaker 3: so it's super Unfortunately, I.
- 49:12Speaker 13: Went down the rabbit hole yesterday and some some advisors
- 49:15Speaker 13: were saying that you just if you can just float
- 49:17Speaker 13: because sometimes swimming that way doesn't actually always work.
- 49:24Speaker 5: Well, you would think that a guy like Ryan Mallet
- 49:26Speaker 5: would be able to swim pretty far. I mean, he's
- 49:28Speaker 5: a former athlete, a big guy.
- 49:31Speaker 4: And only thirty five years old. Yeah, awful, go ahead,
- 49:36Speaker 4: Well I.
- 49:36Speaker 13: Wanted to before I know, Paul got to eat, but like, yeah,
- 49:39Speaker 13: it's not yet doing okay, when Evan, one thing you've
- 49:43Speaker 13: been saying recently. That's kind of given me a little
- 49:45Speaker 13: bit of comfort as talking about the big situation and hey,
- 49:49Speaker 13: is Buffalo gonna implode? Which I think that's important because
- 49:52Speaker 13: the Patriots, if they're going to make the postseason, is
- 49:55Speaker 13: gonna they're gonna need to get some help from the
- 49:57Speaker 13: other hands to eat. So I was kind of wondering
- 50:02Speaker 13: with the new Jersey Jets and the Dolphin, you know,
- 50:06Speaker 13: aside from the quarterback position where you know, with to
- 50:09Speaker 13: his body and Rogers is heart or lack thereof, Like,
- 50:13Speaker 13: what are some other things that could maybe submarine those teams? Like, oh,
- 50:18Speaker 13: what are some ways you think.
- 50:19Speaker 12: They could fall apart?
- 50:20Speaker 13: It's kind of like a bigger picture questions.
- 50:22Speaker 4: We can put a pin in that and wait till
- 50:23Speaker 4: Fred gets back. I'm sure he has a litany of
- 50:25Speaker 4: ways that the other teams can all not be good.
- 50:29Speaker 10: That's at least agree.
- 50:31Speaker 13: That's going to be part of the equations of the
- 50:32Speaker 13: patience this year.
- 50:33Speaker 4: This is where they've they've this is where they've dropped to,
- 50:36Speaker 4: is that you have to hope the other teams implode.
- 50:38Speaker 5: Don't you miss the days where we didn't even care
- 50:40Speaker 5: about the other teams. It was just are we hosting
- 50:42Speaker 5: the AFC Championship Game.
- 50:44Speaker 4: Look at the list of the coaches and quarterbacks of
- 50:46Speaker 4: the other three teams in the AFC East and saying
- 50:49Speaker 4: I remember him, Like that's how obscure are some of
- 50:52Speaker 4: the name like Cleo Lemon, Like you'd be like, oh, yeah,
- 50:55Speaker 4: I remember that guy. Now It's like, well, can can
- 50:59Speaker 4: maybe Stefan be cranky all year and maybe take the
- 51:02Speaker 4: whole offense down with him?
- 51:04Speaker 2: Just got a root for a lot of dis front.
- 51:06Speaker 4: Maybe came to get a concussion again and maybe not
- 51:08Speaker 4: being able to play. That's that's what that's rush injuries.
- 51:12Speaker 4: I don't wish injuries, but Fred does openly.
- 51:15Speaker 2: Maybe some like du Mo leagues that add rifts to
- 51:17Speaker 2: the locker room.
- 51:18Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, could could Alan and Diggs be Donovan
- 51:23Speaker 5: McNabb and t O all over again? Like dis is
- 51:26Speaker 5: Dick's going to be in his driveway with his shirt
- 51:28Speaker 5: off doing crunches and saying how much he hates his quarterback,
- 51:31Speaker 5: Like can we.
- 51:31Speaker 4: Have that he loved his other quarterback though, Dig's quarterback.
- 51:36Speaker 4: That's quarterback? Gotcha?
- 51:39Speaker 13: Well, Evan, you were right about male Dolphin. They're monsters.
- 51:42Speaker 12: And uh.
- 51:43Speaker 13: The other thing is.
- 51:44Speaker 4: I never got the update.
- 51:45Speaker 13: It's kind of a bad guy. John Lennon was a
- 51:47Speaker 13: bad guy too.
- 51:49Speaker 2: Who was okay, John Lennon, John, John Lennon, I did
- 51:52Speaker 2: not know John the one with Yoko.
- 51:55Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, I mean, well I heard Yoko is like, yes,
- 52:02Speaker 5: well Yoko broke up the Beatles.
- 52:04Speaker 4: Well, this Harrison broke the Beatles, John.
- 52:08Speaker 13: That was John Lennon's choice, the Beast.
- 52:10Speaker 2: That's him not being in Alpha.
- 52:12Speaker 4: And there's also there's a lot of difference, like we
- 52:15Speaker 4: don't have to go down to uh, you know tatles
- 52:17Speaker 4: On fielded here, especially when I do not have the
- 52:19Speaker 4: knowledge that Fred obviously brings.
- 52:21Speaker 2: I'm going to crap the whole time.
- 52:22Speaker 4: I'm going off of like some of the stuff that
- 52:24Speaker 4: Fred has said in the past. And it was sort
- 52:27Speaker 4: of one of those things that it wasn't always what
- 52:29Speaker 4: it appeared. Everybody always blamed it on Yoko and her
- 52:33Speaker 4: influence on on John, but not really mentioned as much
- 52:39Speaker 4: was Linda's influence on Paul and how that sort of
- 52:42Speaker 4: rubs people the wrong way. And I think Matt's right.
- 52:44Speaker 4: I think ultimately George Harrison just said enough with this because.
- 52:48Speaker 14: He was getting all but her in the studio that
- 52:50Speaker 14: Yoka was just hanging out, Linda was just hanging out,
- 52:53Speaker 14: and his ideas weren't getting taken seriously, and.
- 52:55Speaker 5: He was having no no, no no, ye don't have
- 53:01Speaker 5: some bad He had some bad stuff going on.
- 53:03Speaker 14: Like Yoko definitely chilled John out. John was a known
- 53:07Speaker 14: just I'll start fighting you kind of personally.
- 53:09Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 53:12Speaker 2: I'm looking at them and hearing their music.
- 53:14Speaker 5: All I know is that now with pop culture references
- 53:17Speaker 5: with the Beatles, they it's always like, oh, like you know,
- 53:21Speaker 5: if you break up a group, your your Yoko's say that.
- 53:24Speaker 4: That's all.
- 53:25Speaker 5: That's all I know, right, I don't know if that's accurate,
- 53:28Speaker 5: but that's all I got. All Right, let's try Patty again. Patty,
- 53:32Speaker 5: don't let me down this time.
- 53:33Speaker 15: Patty, Hey, can you guys hear me?
- 53:36Speaker 2: Yes?
- 53:38Speaker 15: What's going on?
- 53:38Speaker 9: Guys?
- 53:39Speaker 2: And how.
- 53:43Speaker 3: Hey?
- 53:43Speaker 2: We have a bond once from my full one three
- 53:46Speaker 2: we have a bond. He's in the town over for me, Patty,
- 53:49Speaker 2: I'm in west Side right now?
- 53:53Speaker 5: Yeah, what does that mean?
- 53:54Speaker 2: West Springfield cares?
- 53:57Speaker 5: There's a west.
- 54:02Speaker 4: Alone four ninety five.
- 54:04Speaker 5: The only thing for Springfield for me is like, is
- 54:06Speaker 5: it near the Basketball Hall of fame or not.
- 54:08Speaker 2: Yeah, right over the water.
- 54:09Speaker 3: Right over the les.
- 54:11Speaker 15: Yeah, I live. I live from there. So I had
- 54:14Speaker 15: a couple on the Bombay Parker extension and maybe just
- 54:20Speaker 15: touch on music really quickly. To me, what this like?
- 54:23Speaker 15: You guys always say look at what Bill does, not
- 54:25Speaker 15: what he says to me. This kind of spells out
- 54:28Speaker 15: how Yeah, drafting the kill Harry in the first round,
- 54:32Speaker 15: I think this is the guy or the kind of
- 54:33Speaker 15: player that they they envisioned having only perfect can play.
- 54:37Speaker 15: He's proven he could play in this league, and even
- 54:39Speaker 15: though he's thirty years old. I don't know if there's
- 54:41Speaker 15: like any out after the first or second year of
- 54:43Speaker 15: the deal, But I do like Parper as a player.
- 54:46Speaker 15: And I'm going to thought too about Hopkins if they
- 54:48Speaker 15: do end up signing him. What do you guys think
- 54:52Speaker 15: that about them using him? Kind of like the Cardinals
- 54:56Speaker 15: used Fitzy towards the end of his career, where they
- 54:59Speaker 15: you know, he wasn't that X they move them into
- 55:01Speaker 15: and outside and uh, Paul, I gotta ask you, what's
- 55:06Speaker 15: your favorite? What's your album?
- 55:09Speaker 4: I didn't hear that.
- 55:09Speaker 2: What's your favorite?
- 55:10Speaker 15: What Rolling Stones album?
- 55:13Speaker 4: Rolling Stones is probably the start me up album. Ye, yeah,
- 55:18Speaker 4: because I was not, like I told you, I wasn't
- 55:20Speaker 4: like a big Stones fan. I liked the stuff that
- 55:24Speaker 4: was probably like eighty one, so I would be like
- 55:26Speaker 4: in middle school then, Yeah, I like that album.
- 55:30Speaker 15: I was in great school then. But yeah, I mean
- 55:32Speaker 15: I love that music. But maybe the section of rigatone.
- 55:36Speaker 15: But yeah, dude, Exile on Main Street is the Stone's
- 55:40Speaker 15: best album. The class is the greatest fan. I think,
- 55:43Speaker 15: who was the greatest play fan on the planet? And sureman,
- 55:49Speaker 15: that's all I got.
- 55:53Speaker 5: Okay, there you go.
- 55:54Speaker 4: I he's higher on I don't know the player than I.
- 55:57Speaker 5: I don't even remember what he said about football. I
- 55:59Speaker 5: just that holes.
- 56:00Speaker 4: Yeah, well he's talking. I do think it's a it's
- 56:03Speaker 4: a definite possibility to compare the the late skill set,
- 56:08Speaker 4: late career of Fitzgerald when he went into the slot.
- 56:11Speaker 4: He had never really played in the slot, and he
- 56:12Speaker 4: was very productive as a slot guy.
- 56:16Speaker 5: But isn't that why jujus here?
- 56:18Speaker 4: Yeah? I like, I mean, like, you're not going to
- 56:21Speaker 4: say anything to me that says we don't need Hopkins. No,
- 56:24Speaker 4: I think that they could use Hopkins. Yeah, I think
- 56:27Speaker 4: whether you want to play him inside, outside or whatever,
- 56:29Speaker 4: I think he'd be the best receiver you have.
- 56:30Speaker 5: There's definitely alignment overlap that just based off of their historically,
- 56:35Speaker 5: how Hopkins has played and how Parker has played. They've
- 56:38Speaker 5: both been outside receivers. They've both been guys that have
- 56:40Speaker 5: played out outside the numbers X whatever you want to
- 56:43Speaker 5: call it. But I think the bigger thing is is
- 56:46Speaker 5: more about skill set to me than even about like
- 56:49Speaker 5: they can figure out how to distribute the receivers, like
- 56:51Speaker 5: Bill O'Brien will get them all on the field and
- 56:54Speaker 5: he'll figure out the best way to is he in
- 56:56Speaker 5: the slot?
- 56:57Speaker 6: Is he this?
- 56:57Speaker 9: Is he?
- 56:58Speaker 4: Whatever?
- 56:58Speaker 5: The bigger problem that I concerned that I would have
- 57:01Speaker 5: with it is you're you're pretty reliant on slower possession
- 57:06Speaker 5: receivers with good hands and good contested catchability and body control.
- 57:12Speaker 5: And who out of the group is separating, Who out
- 57:15Speaker 5: of the group is taking the top off the defense?
- 57:17Speaker 5: And I right, Thorton, But if you have Hopkins in
- 57:20Speaker 5: the middle, if he's not on the field, he can't
- 57:22Speaker 5: take the top off the defense. Well, separate very slow
- 57:26Speaker 5: right now, it's a slow group still that that would
- 57:29Speaker 5: be my concern with it. And it's again very reliant
- 57:32Speaker 5: on downfield jump balls, back shoulder throws like those are
- 57:37Speaker 5: your going to be your explosive plays in the offense,
- 57:40Speaker 5: you know? Seems to GASICKI like, is that really the
- 57:44Speaker 5: way that you want to build your offen the separators.
- 57:47Speaker 5: I worry about Mac because I wonder if he can
- 57:50Speaker 5: complete enough passes to tightly covered guys to take advantage
- 57:54Speaker 5: of you know, that kind of stuff like man coverage,
- 57:58Speaker 5: and right now, I'm not talking about downfield stuff or whatever.
- 58:02Speaker 5: I think that's overrated because I think all NFL quarterbacks
- 58:05Speaker 5: can throw the ball down the field, like some of
- 58:07Speaker 5: more accurate than others obviously, But to me, it's can
- 58:11Speaker 5: you have that? You know, what's the Warren Sharp thing
- 58:16Speaker 5: that you saw? Last three years he has.
- 58:19Speaker 4: Finished dead last among all among all rated wide receivers
- 58:24Speaker 4: in separation. Yeah, can Mac complete enough passes to a
- 58:28Speaker 4: guy like that? Yeah?
- 58:29Speaker 5: I think that, you know, I wanted to bring up
- 58:32Speaker 5: the Warren Sharp thing. I think that the separation as
- 58:36Speaker 5: a metric has has some flaws to it.
- 58:39Speaker 4: Or enter subjectivity to it, right, that's for sure.
- 58:42Speaker 5: In context of Okay, well, if this player is playing
- 58:46Speaker 5: a predominantly outside receiver X receiver type of role and
- 58:50Speaker 5: he's seeing a ton of backside man coverage. Then it
- 58:54Speaker 5: lends itself to the fact that he's probably going to
- 58:56Speaker 5: be in tighter coverage situations than somebody that's running through
- 59:00Speaker 5: zones in the middle of the field.
- 59:02Speaker 4: Now that being.
- 59:03Speaker 5: Said, I would also say that that's not Parker's game.
- 59:07Speaker 5: Parker is not a separator. We know that it's not
- 59:10Speaker 5: his game. So it's kind of like expecting a guy
- 59:14Speaker 5: that you know that pitches and he's all about control
- 59:16Speaker 5: and putting the ball and in good places and maybe
- 59:20Speaker 5: off speed stuff. And then you're like, well, why is
- 59:22Speaker 5: his strikeout.
- 59:23Speaker 4: Rate really low?
- 59:24Speaker 5: Well, because he doesn't he doesn't have swing and mis pitches.
- 59:27Speaker 5: So Parker is a contested catch guy. We've known that.
- 59:32Speaker 5: But at the same time, I still get do get
- 59:36Speaker 5: concerned about they are building a receiving cord that is
- 59:41Speaker 5: a lot of those types of guys.
- 59:42Speaker 4: Yeah, because my follow up would be, then why did
- 59:45Speaker 4: we extend the guy doesn't have a good strikeout rate,
- 59:48Speaker 4: Like I wouldn't want to, you know, I'd rather you know,
- 59:51Speaker 4: rely on on Bayo. You know who's gonna strike guys
- 59:56Speaker 4: out and has that kind of stuff than Connor Sebolt
- 1:00:00Speaker 4: who I don't think.
- 1:00:01Speaker 5: Did right well well Bao with Bao in this scenario
- 1:00:04Speaker 5: since we're crossing sports fully, now, Bo in this scenario
- 1:00:09Speaker 5: would be a little bit like Taekwon because yeah, BeO
- 1:00:12Speaker 5: early on this year, they almost sent him back down
- 1:00:13Speaker 5: to Worcester like he was well they did. Yeah, he
- 1:00:16Speaker 5: was struggling really badly and now he's like been great
- 1:00:18Speaker 5: for the last two months. So that's one of those
- 1:00:22Speaker 5: scenarios where eventually they just kind of let him pitch
- 1:00:26Speaker 5: his way out of it and figure it out, and
- 1:00:29Speaker 5: that is a concern. I will take one last call
- 1:00:31Speaker 5: and then Paul's food is here, so we'll break for lunch.
- 1:00:33Speaker 5: But to dodge facilitating Mike and Tampa and Tampa Brady,
- 1:00:38Speaker 5: what's going on?
- 1:00:39Speaker 15: Hey, what's going on?
- 1:00:40Speaker 10: Guys? So I had two different things. One of is
- 1:00:45Speaker 10: the Ed Sheeran songs. Good one that if you guys
- 1:00:48Speaker 10: have ever seen Sons of Anarchy, Yes, one of the
- 1:00:52Speaker 10: last episodes, he's got a song on there called make
- 1:00:55Speaker 10: It Rain. I would check that one out. It's pretty good.
- 1:00:59Speaker 10: It's pretty and as far as football is concerned, a
- 1:01:03Speaker 10: couple I want to say the last week or the
- 1:01:04Speaker 10: week before you guys were running off a laundry list
- 1:01:09Speaker 10: for mac Jones about what would make him, you know,
- 1:01:14Speaker 10: what might make him better? For what what we would
- 1:01:18Speaker 10: have to do to see the most out of him.
- 1:01:23Speaker 10: And it seemed like that list was really long just
- 1:01:26Speaker 10: to get him to be serviceable.
- 1:01:28Speaker 4: Oh yeah, I don't know, that sounds that sounds like
- 1:01:33Speaker 4: a lot harsher than we like, he doesn't have to
- 1:01:36Speaker 4: do a ton of improvement to be serviceable, Like I
- 1:01:41Speaker 4: think he is serviceable, now you know, I don't think.
- 1:01:46Speaker 4: I don't think he needs to have strides to be serviceable.
- 1:01:49Speaker 10: Then I'm then I'm misremembering what I heard, But it
- 1:01:52Speaker 10: was it seemed like there was a laundry list of
- 1:01:55Speaker 10: stuff that like, oh, if he had a better offensive
- 1:02:00Speaker 10: line and better wide receivers and better this and better,
- 1:02:03Speaker 10: that we could really get the most out of him, and.
- 1:02:07Speaker 4: Well then you could figure out.
- 1:02:09Speaker 10: That the team would be much better. And that's I
- 1:02:14Speaker 10: know that sounds kind of like, hello, connect the dots.
- 1:02:19Speaker 10: But if he needs that much work to get us
- 1:02:23Speaker 10: to where we want to be, shouldn't we move on?
- 1:02:27Speaker 10: Like maybe, I don't know.
- 1:02:30Speaker 4: That's that's an argument.
- 1:02:32Speaker 5: Yeah, but there's an argument to be made for that, sure,
- 1:02:35Speaker 5: But I think my my pushback on this argument is
- 1:02:37Speaker 5: always like, so we need to make it harder on
- 1:02:41Speaker 5: him to so that he can prove himself as being
- 1:02:44Speaker 5: somebody that can that can.
- 1:02:45Speaker 4: I like the way you put that right, right, Like.
- 1:02:47Speaker 16: So no, Evan, not at all, not at all. So
- 1:02:51Speaker 16: what I what I'm trying to get at with that is,
- 1:02:55Speaker 16: when you need that much, maybe you're trying too hard
- 1:02:58Speaker 16: to get to where you want to be, and you
- 1:03:00Speaker 16: can make it easier on yourself by finding somebody who
- 1:03:03Speaker 16: has those missing pieces that Mac has that Mac doesn't have,
- 1:03:08Speaker 16: rather like the power to get the ball down the
- 1:03:11Speaker 16: field with some velocity and fit the ball into tight windows. Right,
- 1:03:15Speaker 16: that's got touch passes all day long.
- 1:03:17Speaker 5: But I hear you. But but my point is is
- 1:03:20Speaker 5: that I don't think that any quarterback is going to
- 1:03:26Speaker 5: succeed with nothing around him, you know, just just because
- 1:03:30Speaker 5: of his greatness. Like even a guy like Patrick Mahomes,
- 1:03:34Speaker 5: who you can make the argument Kansas City outside of
- 1:03:37Speaker 5: Travis Kelcey just has some okay pieces around Patrick Mahomes.
- 1:03:41Speaker 5: But Patrick Mahomes has Travis Kelcey, he has arguably the
- 1:03:44Speaker 5: best play caller in the sport and he's got a
- 1:03:47Speaker 5: stable offensive line now, and that's why he's great, you know,
- 1:03:51Speaker 5: that's that's what gets him to allow him to be great.
- 1:03:55Speaker 5: So we saw it here with Brady. You know when
- 1:03:57Speaker 5: years when they had down years receiver, they didn't win,
- 1:04:01Speaker 5: Like they didn't win in twenty thirteen, they didn't win
- 1:04:04Speaker 5: with reshe called well and what was that five or six? Yeah,
- 1:04:08Speaker 5: they didn't win those years. So even the great guys
- 1:04:12Speaker 5: still need help. And we saw you know the unfortunately
- 1:04:16Speaker 5: my last year with Brady, you know, covering the team
- 1:04:19Speaker 5: and everybody else, is in nineteen he was still great.
- 1:04:23Speaker 5: You know, he went to Tampa Bay and he won
- 1:04:25Speaker 5: a Super Bowl immediately. So that's the thing is like,
- 1:04:29Speaker 5: even if you find the Golden Goose quarterback and you
- 1:04:32Speaker 5: find your Patrick Mahomes like, you still you still got
- 1:04:36Speaker 5: to put the pieces around him, and I think that
- 1:04:38Speaker 5: you could.
- 1:04:39Speaker 4: You can.
- 1:04:39Speaker 5: Really, that's still good business, regardless of if it's Mac
- 1:04:43Speaker 5: or if it's somebody better.
- 1:04:45Speaker 10: Okay, gotcha, Well, Hey, thank you guys for taking my call.
- 1:04:49Speaker 10: Paulie enjoyed the launch. I really enjoyed listening to you
- 1:04:52Speaker 10: guys every week.
- 1:04:53Speaker 5: Thanks Mike, no problem for Colin, and I do hear
- 1:04:56Speaker 5: his point because I know, well you talk about it
- 1:04:58Speaker 5: all the time with Drew Bloodstone, like you just kept
- 1:05:00Speaker 5: on trying to make Drew bledsoe.
- 1:05:02Speaker 4: Well. But I but I agree with Mike's premise, Like
- 1:05:05Speaker 4: what quarterback in the league wouldn't succeed with all of
- 1:05:08Speaker 4: the you know, a great offensive line, great running game,
- 1:05:10Speaker 4: great receivers, great defense, great coach. Like what do I
- 1:05:14Speaker 4: need you for?
- 1:05:15Speaker 8: That?
- 1:05:15Speaker 4: To me? Is brock party? Yeah? Like he has the
- 1:05:18Speaker 4: best weapons. I think Bill Barnwell had San Francisco one
- 1:05:21Speaker 4: in that list that you cited earlier. He has the
- 1:05:24Speaker 4: best weapons in the league. They have a great defense.
- 1:05:27Speaker 3: Okay, I thought he was suggesting switch mac Jones or
- 1:05:29Speaker 3: Brock Party.
- 1:05:30Speaker 4: No, I think.
- 1:05:34Speaker 3: That you couldn't do it if you if you put
- 1:05:37Speaker 3: mac Jones in that offense, like, who knows what would happen?
- 1:05:40Speaker 5: I think what he's suggesting, and I honestly I'm interested
- 1:05:43Speaker 5: to see if this is the way that that Bill
- 1:05:46Speaker 5: handles it. Is if mac Jones is a replacement level quarterback,
- 1:05:51Speaker 5: then instead of after the fifth year option or four years,
- 1:05:55Speaker 5: instead of paying him Daniel Jones money, just replace him.
- 1:05:59Speaker 4: You know, I think that's what he'll do, unless he
- 1:06:01Speaker 4: makes an enormous leap. I think that's what he'll do.
- 1:06:04Speaker 4: All right, we're gonna take a break. Before we take
- 1:06:06Speaker 4: the quick break, I want to let everybody know. I
- 1:06:08Speaker 4: know everybody's listening to us, and why wouldn't you be.
- 1:06:11Speaker 4: But NFL Network just starting their sort of tribute to
- 1:06:15Speaker 4: the Patriots from the twenty ten the Dynasty two point zero.
- 1:06:22Speaker 4: How's that? Is that the best way to put it?
- 1:06:24Speaker 4: The second half, second half of the Dynasty. The programming
- 1:06:27Speaker 4: on NFL Network is going to be sort of wall
- 1:06:29Speaker 4: to wall Patriots this afternoon. I think the first one
- 1:06:33Speaker 4: is going to be the Divisional round game against Baltimore
- 1:06:37Speaker 4: in twenty fourteen, which was an epic thirty five thirty
- 1:06:41Speaker 4: one game, one of the best playoff games of the
- 1:06:44Speaker 4: entire era. When that gets overlooked a little bit.
- 1:06:47Speaker 5: They did have to show the nine.
- 1:06:51Speaker 4: It was a truly They showed the nine, and then
- 1:06:53Speaker 4: they showed they showed the Cundiff game, and then they
- 1:06:56Speaker 4: showed the next year.
- 1:06:58Speaker 5: If we're gonna if we're gonna pump up the Patriots.
- 1:07:00Speaker 5: Though I could have done without the the Ray rice
- 1:07:02Speaker 5: O nine. I could have done without that one.
- 1:07:05Speaker 4: I told you that was the game right outside that door,
- 1:07:07Speaker 4: and I opened the door to come in and Ray
- 1:07:10Speaker 4: Lewis was screaming and everybody is in roll.
- 1:07:15Speaker 5: God, that was young Evan. That was a crushing blow
- 1:07:18Speaker 5: for young Evan. That was a tough game.
- 1:07:20Speaker 3: That was me in boarding school getting my heart ripped out.
- 1:07:23Speaker 5: Yeah, that was a tough one in Wes Welker.
- 1:07:25Speaker 3: And unrelatable board school, boarding school, board school.
- 1:07:29Speaker 4: Like that's that's just like, you know, like he wasn't
- 1:07:32Speaker 4: really at one of those you know, prep school school,
- 1:07:36Speaker 4: just boarding school.
- 1:07:37Speaker 5: But maybe we'll talk a little bit of fourteenth divisional
- 1:07:41Speaker 5: Roun when we get back after the break, because that
- 1:07:43Speaker 5: was a great game. That was a great game. All Right,
- 1:07:45Speaker 5: we're gonna take a break, Paul's gonna eat, We'll talk
- 1:07:47Speaker 5: to you.

- 1:19:04Speaker 4: Twenty, and now great moments in.
- 1:19:11Speaker 3: History.
- 1:19:12Speaker 24: Here's what I would like you to adopt on unfiltered
- 1:19:15Speaker 24: and every other thing that you do in here, god
- 1:19:17Speaker 24: knows what during the week, take a little more zen
- 1:19:19Speaker 24: approach and you're in the moment. Whatever you're doing, you
- 1:19:23Speaker 24: do that.
- 1:19:23Speaker 22: We have to hate.
- 1:19:25Speaker 2: It's fuel.
- 1:19:26Speaker 4: How about eleven minutes? Does that is that egregious? Is
- 1:19:28Speaker 4: eleven minutes on the whole day. See, here's the thing.
- 1:19:32Speaker 4: His workday is four hours.
- 1:19:34Speaker 3: Our work day is ten hours.
- 1:19:35Speaker 4: Yeah. Yeah, that's what he doesn't understand. That's what he
- 1:19:39Speaker 4: doesn't understand.
- 1:19:41Speaker 24: Does that Does that include when I'm here doing the
- 1:19:43Speaker 24: VS or I'm doing my satellite a single day day.
- 1:19:46Speaker 3: On a single day and a single They're not here
- 1:19:48Speaker 3: to do the podcast slash radio show. We're here to
- 1:19:51Speaker 3: do other things. We throw that in for our fans.
- 1:19:54Speaker 3: Let's carry Let our fans understand that we need to
- 1:19:56Speaker 3: eat right.
- 1:19:57Speaker 4: Let's you and I both carry a little personal work meter.
- 1:20:00Speaker 4: Do you believe in UFOs?
- 1:20:01Speaker 3: Hardy and you're just stupid. Let's talk about UFOs.
- 1:20:05Speaker 4: You know what I'm going there?
- 1:20:06Speaker 1: And that's another great moment from.
- 1:20:12Speaker 5: We're Back and Paul has just finished his food like
- 1:20:16Speaker 5: right on time. And I always find it fascinating that
- 1:20:20Speaker 5: you managed to do that every single time. You never
- 1:20:22Speaker 5: miss a beat.
- 1:20:22Speaker 4: Why do you think I look the way I do.
- 1:20:25Speaker 4: That's not where I was going with that. But eating
- 1:20:28Speaker 4: crap in like thirty seconds, that's you know, that's why
- 1:20:31Speaker 4: you get fat.
- 1:20:31Speaker 14: But at timing's on my part here watching them eat.
- 1:20:34Speaker 5: That's true. Breen's got got the timing down too. It
- 1:20:38Speaker 5: seems like you guys have done this before. It's not
- 1:20:39Speaker 5: your your first rodeo.
- 1:20:41Speaker 6: Well, you have to eat as fast as you can
- 1:20:43Speaker 6: before your brain can signal down to your stomach.
- 1:20:45Speaker 4: And be like, yo, I'm full stop doing that.
- 1:20:47Speaker 3: I always get slandered, the whole fast, the whole stomach
- 1:20:52Speaker 3: eater in the world.
- 1:20:53Speaker 5: My brain never tells my stomach.
- 1:20:54Speaker 6: That's because you probably have some unhealthy things going on
- 1:20:57Speaker 6: in your gut microbiome.
- 1:20:59Speaker 4: But what don't just the whole other story. Smile, smile
- 1:21:04Speaker 4: and nod. That's a big word that I has words.
- 1:21:07Speaker 2: Your gut's like your second brain. You guys.
- 1:21:10Speaker 5: I have never once in my life thought to myself,
- 1:21:14Speaker 5: I couldn't while eating, I couldn't eat another bite now
- 1:21:17Speaker 5: ten minutes later after it hits me how much I
- 1:21:20Speaker 5: just ate.
- 1:21:21Speaker 3: The ibs kicks in.
- 1:21:22Speaker 4: Yeah, sure you have that, No I do, say Andy
- 1:21:27Speaker 4: Hart had it. I don't amazing that's true? Are you
- 1:21:31Speaker 4: know multiple members of this show.
- 1:21:33Speaker 3: No, I don't have that thing, for sure, I got
- 1:21:35Speaker 3: but I eat like trash too, so it's probably my fault.
- 1:21:37Speaker 4: I always to say that to Andy. I was like,
- 1:21:39Speaker 4: did you ever try to actually eat normal and see
- 1:21:42Speaker 4: how it goes?
- 1:21:43Speaker 6: No, I was just not about your atte One of
- 1:21:45Speaker 6: my friends, like, she's just now trying vegetables and stuff,
- 1:21:49Speaker 6: and she's a really petite girl.
- 1:21:50Speaker 2: She can't believe she's like pre diabetic.
- 1:21:52Speaker 6: And I'm like, that's because we went out to like
- 1:21:54Speaker 6: a five star restaurant and you asked for buttered noodles
- 1:21:56Speaker 6: and we were eating like elk and stuff.
- 1:21:59Speaker 2: And elk just got it.
- 1:22:01Speaker 6: Was the elk almost as good as the octopus.
- 1:22:05Speaker 3: Okay, octopus is good.
- 1:22:06Speaker 6: Yeah, like octopus Southbound Charleston, South Carolina, great restaurant.
- 1:22:10Speaker 4: So we actually had elk on this show. Oh, someone
- 1:22:13Speaker 4: came and cooked it for us right out in the
- 1:22:15Speaker 4: parking right out in the parking lot. I don't know
- 1:22:18Speaker 4: it was very good.
- 1:22:19Speaker 5: I would try it just because I try anything.
- 1:22:21Speaker 2: That's one of the most elsy proteins. It's really good.
- 1:22:26Speaker 5: Okay, all right, Alex.
- 1:22:28Speaker 4: I agree with you, though. I generally when I stop eating,
- 1:22:32Speaker 4: that's out of embarrassment, not not satisfaction. I don't know.
- 1:22:36Speaker 4: I just you know, I I'm looking.
- 1:22:39Speaker 5: I'm definitely one of those one of those people that
- 1:22:41Speaker 5: needs to to tell myself to stop eating, because if
- 1:22:45Speaker 5: I eat as much as I really want to, then
- 1:22:47Speaker 5: I'll be three hundred pounds. So I have to control myself.
- 1:22:50Speaker 5: But I'm never full, never.
- 1:22:53Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 1:22:53Speaker 5: It's one of those problems.
- 1:22:54Speaker 6: But that's because actually I'm just gonna stop. I'm not
- 1:22:58Speaker 6: eating foods that are satisfy you. You're tricking your body.
- 1:23:01Speaker 6: And then you're like, wait, I'm still hungry. I eat
- 1:23:03Speaker 6: all this food, but I got nothing from it.
- 1:23:05Speaker 5: You're telling me my Jersey Mike's number seven is.
- 1:23:08Speaker 3: Not is not filling my or the ten d's in
- 1:23:12Speaker 3: the commons.
- 1:23:13Speaker 2: Yeah, the comments.
- 1:23:15Speaker 4: I've heard some. I've heard some good things and some
- 1:23:18Speaker 4: bad things.
- 1:23:19Speaker 3: Yesterday I was your afternoon after that was fine.
- 1:23:26Speaker 4: I actually included which I don't I haven't done.
- 1:23:30Speaker 2: I got a fry yesterday too with my keen wobble.
- 1:23:32Speaker 3: I will admit it, doesn't you get the Siracha the
- 1:23:34Speaker 3: fries and Sacha slaps.
- 1:23:36Speaker 4: The guys are doing good.
- 1:23:37Speaker 2: Work out there. I love the kitchen guys up there.
- 1:23:40Speaker 5: So they're they're showing on NFL Network right now the
- 1:23:43Speaker 5: twenty fourteenth Divisional Round game against Baltimore and they're explaining
- 1:23:47Speaker 5: the ineligible receiver formation that the Patriots said used in
- 1:23:52Speaker 5: this game to trick the Ravens, And to me, that
- 1:23:56Speaker 5: will never get old. I will never get over watching
- 1:24:00Speaker 5: John Harbaugh lose his mind on the sideline trying to
- 1:24:03Speaker 5: figure this out. I think we got to go around
- 1:24:05Speaker 5: the table. Though I know where Paul was because he
- 1:24:07Speaker 5: was He was here when this when this game.
- 1:24:09Speaker 4: Happened, This is one of the best. Seriously, I set
- 1:24:11Speaker 4: up before the break. This is one of the best
- 1:24:13Speaker 4: playoff games, and I don't think it gets as much
- 1:24:15Speaker 4: attention as a lot of others.
- 1:24:17Speaker 5: It was a classic. Where were you guys when this
- 1:24:19Speaker 5: game happened?
- 1:24:19Speaker 3: I was in my mom's living room screaming at the TV.
- 1:24:22Speaker 3: When Flacco threw that ball at the end, I swear
- 1:24:24Speaker 3: it was in the air for forty five seconds. That's all
- 1:24:26Speaker 3: I remember.
- 1:24:27Speaker 4: Yep.
- 1:24:28Speaker 2: I think I was at my friend Morgan's house. Were
- 1:24:31Speaker 2: my friend Morgan. We were just having a lot of
- 1:24:33Speaker 2: watch parties those days.
- 1:24:36Speaker 3: Yeah, I think I was on break, wasn't that.
- 1:24:38Speaker 5: Yeah, So that that was for me. I was in college,
- 1:24:41Speaker 5: so that was right in the middle of winter break.
- 1:24:44Speaker 11: Yep.
- 1:24:44Speaker 5: We were on vacation, and I remember to this day
- 1:24:47Speaker 5: that my mom was furious because my mom's not a
- 1:24:50Speaker 5: football fan, doesn't watch football, and we were on vacation,
- 1:24:54Speaker 5: family vacation, and me and my dad and my sister
- 1:24:57Speaker 5: wanted to stay in that night and watch the game,
- 1:24:59Speaker 5: and we got takeout from the restaurant at the hotel
- 1:25:02Speaker 5: and you know it, and deal a little little party
- 1:25:05Speaker 5: in the hotel room. And my mom is like furious
- 1:25:07Speaker 5: because we didn't we didn't go out pats on vacation,
- 1:25:11Speaker 5: and she just didn't really understand. And then it turned
- 1:25:13Speaker 5: out to be the greatest divisional round game they probably
- 1:25:17Speaker 5: ever played. And in hindsight, I think it was great that,
- 1:25:21Speaker 5: you know, luckily they won. I probably would have would
- 1:25:24Speaker 5: have ruined the rest of the vacation.
- 1:25:25Speaker 4: If they had lost. So I'm glad that they had won.
- 1:25:28Speaker 2: But was she less mad after the win or was
- 1:25:30Speaker 2: she she was relieved?
- 1:25:31Speaker 5: She always said every time that the Patriots played in
- 1:25:34Speaker 5: a big game, like a playoff game or Super Bowl,
- 1:25:36Speaker 5: it was relief when they won.
- 1:25:38Speaker 2: Because a huge brat when they lost, Like, would you cry?
- 1:25:40Speaker 5: I wouldn't cry. I'd usually like go into like a
- 1:25:43Speaker 5: fortress of solitude for a little while.
- 1:25:45Speaker 2: And yeah, it's probably a nice break on your mom
- 1:25:49Speaker 2: when they lost.
- 1:25:50Speaker 5: For me, like on like a Sunday, you know, before
- 1:25:53Speaker 5: it started, I just like go outside and like, you know,
- 1:25:55Speaker 5: shoot hoops my driveway by myself for like an hour
- 1:25:58Speaker 5: and like not talk to anybody or something like that.
- 1:26:01Speaker 5: But yeah, you know, it was you could hear a
- 1:26:04Speaker 5: pin drop in my house when they were losing, like
- 1:26:06Speaker 5: in a in a playoff game, you could.
- 1:26:08Speaker 4: You could.
- 1:26:10Speaker 5: There was no talking, there was no we wouldn't even
- 1:26:12Speaker 5: look at each other. You just you just kind of
- 1:26:14Speaker 5: sit there in silence. But Paul Way, what's your what's
- 1:26:18Speaker 5: your favorite moment of this game? Because there's a lot
- 1:26:21Speaker 5: of great moments out of this one.
- 1:26:22Speaker 4: I think they just showed it. I think the double
- 1:26:24Speaker 4: pass the place went absolutely ballistic in Edelman to a
- 1:26:28Speaker 4: Mondola for the tying touchdown. One of the most underrated
- 1:26:32Speaker 4: throws of Brady's career, however, is the winning touchdown, which
- 1:26:38Speaker 4: is coming up shortly.
- 1:26:39Speaker 5: So he actually he was on a radio show talking
- 1:26:43Speaker 5: about his favorite throws that he has ever made, and
- 1:26:46Speaker 5: he actually gave LaFell the credit for that one, said
- 1:26:49Speaker 5: it was a tougher catch.
- 1:26:50Speaker 4: It it was a tough catch, but I mean it
- 1:26:53Speaker 4: was everything about that play, you know, and especially when
- 1:26:56Speaker 4: you take into consideration the circumstances, you know, like that
- 1:27:00Speaker 4: was that was great the I I loved those. Uh
- 1:27:03Speaker 4: those playoff games with Baltimore were the best they had.
- 1:27:06Speaker 4: I think they had four of them and went two
- 1:27:08Speaker 4: and two. They were they were different. They were as
- 1:27:12Speaker 4: the kids saying, he's built different.
- 1:27:14Speaker 6: Well, they were like we didn't have many games that
- 1:27:17Speaker 6: we were like really nervous about until really you got
- 1:27:20Speaker 6: to the FC Championship the Super Bowl.
- 1:27:22Speaker 2: But Baltimore, if like that was.
- 1:27:23Speaker 4: Always like the dynasty. The first part of the dynasty.
- 1:27:26Speaker 4: All of the playoff games were like that. The second
- 1:27:27Speaker 4: part it was Tim Tebow, Brock Osweiler, like you're playing
- 1:27:32Speaker 4: against guys that can't compete. Marcus Mariota my leaving out
- 1:27:38Speaker 4: the tomato can the parade of the Tomato cans.
- 1:27:41Speaker 5: It was sha in one of those Houston because they
- 1:27:44Speaker 5: played Houston twice, right, I do think was one of them. Yeah,
- 1:27:48Speaker 5: because I remember the brock Star because they they played.
- 1:27:52Speaker 4: Ostwiler was definitely one, right, and then they played they
- 1:27:55Speaker 4: played Houston. Oh my god, to catch the well.
- 1:27:59Speaker 5: The other time is when when Gronk relanded on the
- 1:28:02Speaker 5: on the forearm and rebroke his forearm. I think that
- 1:28:04Speaker 5: was thirteen.
- 1:28:05Speaker 4: That was That was a Houston game. Yeah, that was
- 1:28:08Speaker 4: like a deceptively high scoring game.
- 1:28:10Speaker 5: Yeah, Shane Vereen, I think a wheel route out of
- 1:28:12Speaker 5: the backfield.
- 1:28:12Speaker 4: Do you have a pick return in that game too?
- 1:28:14Speaker 4: He might have. The Patriots had that game in control. Yeah,
- 1:28:18Speaker 4: but it was it was pretty high scoring.
- 1:28:21Speaker 5: Got a young young dev right there, young Devin mccordy.
- 1:28:24Speaker 3: Talking about one of the playoff games that stands out
- 1:28:26Speaker 3: to me. I think it was a twenty fifteen Broncos
- 1:28:28Speaker 3: one kind of snowy Pats old line was just so
- 1:28:31Speaker 3: beat up. Yeah, they lost by one or something like that,
- 1:28:34Speaker 3: But that's the game that always stands out to me.
- 1:28:36Speaker 5: Yeah, that one was tough because they lead the drive down,
- 1:28:40Speaker 5: Brady has the fourth down throw to Gronkowski, which is
- 1:28:42Speaker 5: definitely on his mad rush more of throws, and then
- 1:28:45Speaker 5: he misses him on the two point conversion.
- 1:28:47Speaker 3: Which Gokowski missed earlier.
- 1:28:49Speaker 5: Yeah, and then that was what ended up costing them
- 1:28:51Speaker 5: the game.
- 1:28:52Speaker 3: It was that the air where Harper muffed the punt.
- 1:28:54Speaker 3: That's why it wasn't a Gillette.
- 1:28:55Speaker 4: Oh when they lost. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yes, I can
- 1:29:00Speaker 4: give you my cavalcade of BB screw ups that cost
- 1:29:04Speaker 4: them a super Bowl that year. That would be one, yep,
- 1:29:08Speaker 4: that's when it started. The mortar kick, the corpse of
- 1:29:11Speaker 4: Stephen Jackson, Yeah, and kicking off in overtime. Those are
- 1:29:15Speaker 4: four games you lost in the last seven weeks of
- 1:29:18Speaker 4: the season that if you won any one of them,
- 1:29:20Speaker 4: you would have hosted the AC Championship game. And I
- 1:29:22Speaker 4: think you would have won it, yeah, if you hosted it.
- 1:29:25Speaker 4: But that's just me. I'm crazy like that.
- 1:29:27Speaker 5: I forgot about the hail Mary suspense.
- 1:29:31Speaker 3: That ball was in the air for what felt like
- 1:29:33Speaker 3: forty five seconds, well the two minutes.
- 1:29:35Speaker 4: But that's even that's the hail Mary. The drive like,
- 1:29:39Speaker 4: there was two things. One they should when they kicked
- 1:29:42Speaker 4: a field goal to go up thirty one twenty eight.
- 1:29:44Speaker 4: It should have been a touchdown, Yeah, I forget. I
- 1:29:46Speaker 4: think it was Dennis Pitta dropped it dropped a touchdown
- 1:29:51Speaker 4: and then they were moving again. When it was I
- 1:29:54Speaker 4: think they were down thirty five thirty one. If you remember,
- 1:29:58Speaker 4: both teams pretty much moved the BA at will in
- 1:30:00Speaker 4: that game. Yeah, the the Ravens looked like they were
- 1:30:04Speaker 4: going to respond and take the lead again. They had
- 1:30:07Speaker 4: a good little drive going and for some reason Flacco
- 1:30:10Speaker 4: went for it all and I think Deron Harmon that
- 1:30:13Speaker 4: was one of his Mariano Rivera closers. Yeah, closer, and
- 1:30:17Speaker 4: he came up with a big play. But I thought
- 1:30:20Speaker 4: they took an unnecessary shot into the end zone that
- 1:30:22Speaker 4: didn't need to happen there.
- 1:30:23Speaker 5: Yeah, I just I didn't really. You always remember those
- 1:30:28Speaker 5: hell Mary plays, and some of those are a lot
- 1:30:31Speaker 5: closer than you remember when you see him again, right,
- 1:30:34Speaker 5: you know that one tipped up.
- 1:30:35Speaker 4: They're almost all close when you actually watched them in
- 1:30:40Speaker 4: slow motion, like the uh, the Eagles one that the
- 1:30:43Speaker 4: Patriots lost. Yeah, there was like they went up and
- 1:30:46Speaker 4: everybody sort of batted it down and then one of
- 1:30:49Speaker 4: the Eagles defenders sort of gets twisted and his arm
- 1:30:52Speaker 4: goes up and hits the ball back up in the
- 1:30:54Speaker 4: air a little bit by accident, totally not intentional, but
- 1:30:58Speaker 4: it just fell in an area that were weren't it
- 1:31:00Speaker 4: weren't any Patriots.
- 1:31:01Speaker 3: It's also crazy because like the Hail Mary is the
- 1:31:03Speaker 3: one play in the NFL, Like the refs probably aren't
- 1:31:05Speaker 3: gonna throw anything, like people are just.
- 1:31:07Speaker 4: Getting people kill each other, and they should.
- 1:31:10Speaker 3: Yeah, but I mean, like what was it was the
- 1:31:12Speaker 3: Eagles one, Like Gronk was getting like he was getting
- 1:31:15Speaker 3: jumped on by people.
- 1:31:16Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, you can actually Hogan gets lit up, like
- 1:31:21Speaker 4: the twenty yards just running down the field. Yeah.
- 1:31:23Speaker 5: Then the second Giant Super Bowl, if healthy Gronk makes
- 1:31:27Speaker 5: that catch up, healthy Gronk catches that on the shoe
- 1:31:29Speaker 5: strings and and they ride off into the sunset.
- 1:31:32Speaker 4: That one.
- 1:31:33Speaker 5: That one's also that Hill Mary's Razor Thin, which was
- 1:31:37Speaker 5: the second Giant Super Bowl.
- 1:31:39Speaker 4: Yeah, that's one that I think is an example of
- 1:31:42Speaker 4: It looks a lot closer and super slow motion than
- 1:31:45Speaker 4: it was. Yeah, like the balls kind of on the
- 1:31:47Speaker 4: ground before Gronk dives for it. Yeah, you know.
- 1:31:50Speaker 3: I'm gonna saying, if his ankle's healthy, is there ankle's healthy.
- 1:31:53Speaker 4: Well, if his ankle is healthy, the game's all different
- 1:31:55Speaker 4: if you were going to play that game.
- 1:31:57Speaker 5: I just need the ankle to be healthy for that.
- 1:32:00Speaker 5: I don't need the whole game.
- 1:32:01Speaker 4: I don't need to be greedy. I just needed to
- 1:32:03Speaker 4: be healthy on that one.
- 1:32:04Speaker 2: Themselves kick in the CORTI kicks in right there.
- 1:32:08Speaker 5: How one's still?
- 1:32:09Speaker 4: Are you like that?
- 1:32:10Speaker 5: Or do the the losses still stick with you even
- 1:32:12Speaker 5: though they won six times?
- 1:32:14Speaker 4: Like I know they they definitely do stick to me.
- 1:32:16Speaker 4: And it's part of that whole sort of mantra that
- 1:32:19Speaker 4: I have, Like I'm always worried about something. And I
- 1:32:22Speaker 4: know this sounds incredibly selfish and sort of greedy, but
- 1:32:28Speaker 4: I feel like they left some out there. Is this
- 1:32:31Speaker 4: is this?
- 1:32:31Speaker 5: If you've told me this before, I wasn't sure.
- 1:32:33Speaker 4: Do you feel like I don't. I don't go all
- 1:32:35Speaker 4: in on this one. And people that are listening are
- 1:32:38Speaker 4: going to be like, since when does he hold back?
- 1:32:41Speaker 4: I'm out of field? Like I normally do not care
- 1:32:45Speaker 4: at all about the backlash that I get, because I
- 1:32:47Speaker 4: get a lot of backlash, you know about a lot
- 1:32:49Speaker 4: of things, not the least of witches being fat. But
- 1:32:54Speaker 4: that happens, what are you going to do? I'm fat,
- 1:32:56Speaker 4: I have to I have to live with that. I
- 1:32:59Speaker 4: don't want to go all in on like how many
- 1:33:02Speaker 4: super Bowls they should have won, But I do kind
- 1:33:05Speaker 4: of think that they left. I think, oh, six is
- 1:33:06Speaker 4: a glaring example. I think fifteen is a glaring example.
- 1:33:10Speaker 4: I think they left someone that. Now you can easily
- 1:33:12Speaker 4: cut back and say, you know, if not for a
- 1:33:16Speaker 4: play in what five of the six wins they could
- 1:33:19Speaker 4: have lost? Absolutely valid, absolutely true. They could They easily
- 1:33:24Speaker 4: could have lost to the Rams. They easily could have
- 1:33:26Speaker 4: lost them.
- 1:33:26Speaker 5: But isn't that why it feels like they won exactly
- 1:33:28Speaker 5: the amount that they probably should have won.
- 1:33:30Speaker 4: Probably, which is another reason why don't go all in.
- 1:33:33Speaker 2: I really liked one of those Giants one, one.
- 1:33:36Speaker 4: Of them, oh, the second Giants one. I think they
- 1:33:40Speaker 4: were closer to winning than the first. The first one.
- 1:33:43Speaker 4: To me, I thought they got like as thoroughly all
- 1:33:45Speaker 4: played as you can get, with the exception of the
- 1:33:47Speaker 4: very first drive of the game. Patriots went down the
- 1:33:50Speaker 4: field bang just like they did every other time. Yeah
- 1:33:53Speaker 4: O seven And after that the Giants kicked the snot
- 1:33:56Speaker 4: out of them in that game. The second Giants game,
- 1:33:58Speaker 4: I thought the Giants star arted fast and the Patriots
- 1:34:01Speaker 4: eventually I thought, took control of the game and that
- 1:34:06Speaker 4: that double score to me was just like methodical long
- 1:34:11Speaker 4: drive to end the second long drive to start the third.
- 1:34:14Speaker 4: I was like, the Giants haven't had the ball in
- 1:34:16Speaker 4: like an hour and a half, and the Patriots were
- 1:34:19Speaker 4: in complete control of this game until they weren't.
- 1:34:22Speaker 3: I think the Eagle, the second Eagles one would have
- 1:34:24Speaker 3: stung a lot more if they didn't win the next year,
- 1:34:27Speaker 3: Like I think that game would drive me crazy, like
- 1:34:29Speaker 3: Clement's foot out of bounds. Like you can always say
- 1:34:31Speaker 3: everything that should have happened and get called, but that
- 1:34:34Speaker 3: one would sting a lot more.
- 1:34:35Speaker 4: That's what you come back to as a Patriots fan,
- 1:34:38Speaker 4: not like why is Johnson Bademosi? That's the whole, that's
- 1:34:41Speaker 4: a whole, separate com Why is Malcolm Butler on the
- 1:34:44Speaker 4: side of That's like maybe by a dimple of a football,
- 1:34:48Speaker 4: a guy maybe wasn't in bounds when he caught a
- 1:34:51Speaker 4: tough That's what you fall back. No, it'd fos out
- 1:34:53Speaker 4: of bounds, but no, no, not necessarily.
- 1:34:56Speaker 3: Not see that, like I think the Mountain was things
- 1:34:59Speaker 3: a whole step story.
- 1:35:00Speaker 4: You're talking about the babble. Yeah, it's close.
- 1:35:03Speaker 5: It's close, But they they called it one way all
- 1:35:06Speaker 5: year long, and then they did they did.
- 1:35:08Speaker 4: They called it right in the championship. I agree, which
- 1:35:12Speaker 4: every Patriots fan, if they had a hand on a Bible,
- 1:35:14Speaker 4: would admit. No.
- 1:35:15Speaker 5: I agree that that was the correct call. That just
- 1:35:17Speaker 5: wasn't a consistent that.
- 1:35:18Speaker 4: Zach Ertz one was not even close. He took three
- 1:35:21Speaker 4: full strides before he dove into the end zone. Chris
- 1:35:25Speaker 4: collins Wood said it was going to get overturned.
- 1:35:27Speaker 5: Lives Oh god. Yeah, that's why I don't pay attention
- 1:35:29Speaker 5: to Chris collins Worth. But I mean, look, it was
- 1:35:32Speaker 5: the Jesse James play. You can talk about all these
- 1:35:35Speaker 5: did the Eagles second Super Bowl? If the Patriots go
- 1:35:39Speaker 5: nineteen to oh, I'm all set for life. Like that's that.
- 1:35:43Speaker 6: That was nineteen and oh and then everything we've done
- 1:35:47Speaker 6: after that is nothing.
- 1:35:48Speaker 4: You're cool with that, Yeah, you're cool with that. It's
- 1:35:53Speaker 4: a good question, cool.
- 1:35:54Speaker 2: With smart as clarify.
- 1:35:57Speaker 5: It's a good question because this is something that I
- 1:36:00Speaker 5: have thought about way too much, is would I trade
- 1:36:05Speaker 5: nineteen to oh for the other three Super Bowls that
- 1:36:10Speaker 5: they won in the twenty tens. And it's like, how
- 1:36:13Speaker 5: I imagine parents pick between two children, Like, how do
- 1:36:15Speaker 5: you do that?
- 1:36:16Speaker 4: Right?
- 1:36:16Speaker 5: Like, you can't do it. There's no good answer.
- 1:36:21Speaker 2: As a confident favorite. I don't know. I don't think
- 1:36:24Speaker 2: it's easy.
- 1:36:25Speaker 4: I can't.
- 1:36:26Speaker 5: I can't.
- 1:36:26Speaker 4: Oh, I'm not the favorite, so you can.
- 1:36:27Speaker 2: Pay the favorite. You can't say it.
- 1:36:29Speaker 4: Out loud, Yeah, I don't.
- 1:36:30Speaker 5: I don't know if I can, if I can say
- 1:36:33Speaker 5: that that fully, but I'm close. It's kind of like
- 1:36:37Speaker 5: Paul with his opinion that they could have won more.
- 1:36:41Speaker 5: I might trade the other three super Bowls for nineteen
- 1:36:45Speaker 5: to No, I might do.
- 1:36:46Speaker 3: It no Seahawks fifty one.
- 1:36:48Speaker 2: I was older for the last year.
- 1:36:50Speaker 6: I appreciated them so much more. I wasn't just like
- 1:36:53Speaker 6: a young dumb kid.
- 1:36:54Speaker 5: Well, I was in high school for nineteen to o
- 1:36:57Speaker 5: as a like a freshman.
- 1:36:58Speaker 6: I think I remember going home my a I am
- 1:37:01Speaker 6: away message, just ranting away.
- 1:37:04Speaker 5: I think you know the thing was for me is
- 1:37:06Speaker 5: that at the time, Randy Moss was my favorite non
- 1:37:11Speaker 5: Brady Patriot by far, not even close. So the fact
- 1:37:14Speaker 5: that he didn't Win kills me. And the fact that
- 1:37:17Speaker 5: you know that record breaking year ended the way that
- 1:37:19Speaker 5: it did for him kills me. And I was also
- 1:37:22Speaker 5: a huge Wes Welker guy because you know, as an
- 1:37:25Speaker 5: undersized Caucasian man, I I thought, oh, well, Wes Welker
- 1:37:31Speaker 5: made it in the NFL, why can't I? Stupid, very stupidly.
- 1:37:37Speaker 5: So so I was a huge Wes Welker guy too
- 1:37:40Speaker 5: because in Edelman, you know, also because of the same
- 1:37:43Speaker 5: reason the I woman.
- 1:37:45Speaker 2: Was Jewish, you'd think you'd have mortal I cling onto
- 1:37:47Speaker 2: with him.
- 1:37:47Speaker 5: Yeah, but West was first, you know. So but I
- 1:37:51Speaker 5: truly believed that that like, oh, there's a path for me,
- 1:37:53Speaker 5: Like I, I, you know, look at this.
- 1:37:58Speaker 6: It's so funny because we talk about at all the
- 1:38:01Speaker 6: community events, the guys are like, it's really important for
- 1:38:03Speaker 6: them to see what they can achieve.
- 1:38:05Speaker 5: This you're giving us now now and fifteen years later,
- 1:38:08Speaker 5: I can't even keep a straight face.
- 1:38:09Speaker 4: Like thinking that there was a path ever that existed.
- 1:38:14Speaker 4: That's awesome. This is so funny, just so you know,
- 1:38:16Speaker 4: we are revisiting this one when so true, I thought
- 1:38:21Speaker 4: I really believed. Okay, here's Wes Welker.
- 1:38:24Speaker 5: He's like the same size as me in terms of
- 1:38:26Speaker 5: like height, uh not way because he was on muscle
- 1:38:28Speaker 5: and I was not, but height and all that kind
- 1:38:31Speaker 5: of stuff, and I really felt like, I, you know,
- 1:38:35Speaker 5: if I worked as hard as he did and I
- 1:38:37Speaker 5: could do it, you know, Similarly in basketball, you know,
- 1:38:41Speaker 5: I was a huge, huge JJ Redick fan because JJ
- 1:38:45Speaker 5: Reddick was not the best athlete, but he was a
- 1:38:48Speaker 5: dominant three point shooter and he made the NBA because
- 1:38:51Speaker 5: he could shoot, and that was.
- 1:38:52Speaker 3: It to this is why we need to do the Yeah,
- 1:38:55Speaker 3: he's a lot bigger.
- 1:38:56Speaker 4: Mark Price was one of the best shooters high school basketball.
- 1:38:59Speaker 4: And what I mean, I wasn't a good basketball player,
- 1:39:01Speaker 4: but all the were like, what Price Like, he's just
- 1:39:05Speaker 4: like if you just work hard, like that's like my
- 1:39:07Speaker 4: Price is ridiculously athletic point god.
- 1:39:11Speaker 2: Like.
- 1:39:11Speaker 4: Just because he wasn't considered athletic among his peters in
- 1:39:14Speaker 4: the NBA doesn't mean he wasn't like way more skilled
- 1:39:18Speaker 4: than some joker playing.
- 1:39:20Speaker 3: Like Scalabrini challenging people.
- 1:39:22Speaker 2: To one on one, yeah, or like playing pickup.
- 1:39:24Speaker 5: So that's different though, because Scal's like seven feet tall,
- 1:39:27Speaker 5: so he's just like genetically bigger than you, even if
- 1:39:31Speaker 5: he's not like more skilled at basketball. I was convinced
- 1:39:34Speaker 5: that I had the exact same body type as Wes Welker,
- 1:39:38Speaker 5: So why couldn't that be me?
- 1:39:40Speaker 3: Evan? This is why we need to have the content
- 1:39:42Speaker 3: team combined.
- 1:39:44Speaker 4: Because then you'll find out why it couldn't be me.
- 1:39:47Speaker 2: So yeah, it would still be so fun. Well, I
- 1:39:51Speaker 2: want to do it.
- 1:39:51Speaker 5: I don't know if I can sign up for that
- 1:39:53Speaker 5: kind of embarrassment. I know my forty time right now
- 1:39:56Speaker 5: is if I'm I'm lucky to break seven seconds.
- 1:39:58Speaker 4: At this point, Andy did the combine for a big
- 1:40:02Speaker 4: feature that we did one hundred years ago. But like
- 1:40:04Speaker 4: the only thing he did, the only thing he did
- 1:40:07Speaker 4: at any kind of a level, was the bench press.
- 1:40:10Speaker 4: Why doesn't that surprise me? T t Rex? I don't know.
- 1:40:15Speaker 5: Would I trade second because it sucked? Would I trade
- 1:40:18Speaker 5: nineteen to O for the other three Super Bowls?
- 1:40:20Speaker 4: I might? It's the great that's the great debate. I might. Basically,
- 1:40:23Speaker 4: we're saying, if you had that and then but then
- 1:40:26Speaker 4: Brady was going to retire and that's a bad that
- 1:40:30Speaker 4: and you didn't have so like so it was a
- 1:40:32Speaker 4: guarantee that you weren't going to win. Would you take that?
- 1:40:35Speaker 4: That's the thing.
- 1:40:36Speaker 5: If you told me that, you want to know seven
- 1:40:40Speaker 5: and Brady didn't play for another decade after that, then
- 1:40:44Speaker 5: I'm easily taking O.
- 1:40:45Speaker 4: Seven.
- 1:40:46Speaker 5: But because he played for so long after the thing,
- 1:40:49Speaker 5: it was a chance that like they did, it's literally
- 1:40:52Speaker 5: giving up on a whole nother career for most quarterbacks, right,
- 1:40:56Speaker 5: you know.
- 1:40:56Speaker 4: It's did you see? I don't know? And you you
- 1:40:58Speaker 4: would know this like there was one of those like
- 1:41:04Speaker 4: strange stats that you can't believe is true. Thing about
- 1:41:06Speaker 4: if you took away the seven Super Bowls that Brady has,
- 1:41:10Speaker 4: he'd still be the number one all time in postseason
- 1:41:14Speaker 4: touchdown passes and yards. It's crazy. Now what what I
- 1:41:20Speaker 4: need a little bit further context? Like you're telling me
- 1:41:22Speaker 4: you're taking away twenty two games, Like so the six
- 1:41:27Speaker 4: times they won with the Patriots, that's eighteen games, three
- 1:41:29Speaker 4: three games through the play plus the Tampa one was
- 1:41:32Speaker 4: four games. So that's you know, you're taking away all
- 1:41:36Speaker 4: of those games or you're just taking away the actual
- 1:41:38Speaker 4: Super Bowl. I would assume it's just the actual because
- 1:41:40Speaker 4: it didn't seem to be plausible. But if you took
- 1:41:44Speaker 4: away like the playoff runs all seven times he won
- 1:41:48Speaker 4: the Super Bowl. That's amazing. If he's still you know,
- 1:41:51Speaker 4: I know that, like you could do like he had
- 1:41:53Speaker 4: a Hall of Fame career twice. I know that whole thing.
- 1:41:55Speaker 5: Yeah, well, that's my point with those seven is you're
- 1:41:58Speaker 5: you're giving up a Hall of Fame career in Dynasty
- 1:42:02Speaker 5: two point zero by cutting it off, you know, seven.
- 1:42:05Speaker 5: So that does make it a little bit difficult.
- 1:42:07Speaker 2: You miss the whole Gronk era.
- 1:42:10Speaker 4: Who says that Gronk didn't come?
- 1:42:12Speaker 5: Ye know, why can't he? Why can't it be like.
- 1:42:17Speaker 2: Gronks? Like, Yo, I'm not playing with this scrubb. I'm
- 1:42:19Speaker 2: out like Drew bloodsoe whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa whoa.
- 1:42:22Speaker 5: I'm saying, my friend, I'm saying it could be like
- 1:42:25Speaker 5: Drew and Ben Coats, which wasn't I was.
- 1:42:27Speaker 4: Going to say, he would have been just fine, right,
- 1:42:30Speaker 4: it would have been fine.
- 1:42:31Speaker 5: That was my point. I wasn't a shot at Drew.
- 1:42:34Speaker 5: Maybe a little bit of shot.
- 1:42:35Speaker 4: It was a little bit.
- 1:42:37Speaker 2: We're saying, you're missing Brady and Gronk together.
- 1:42:41Speaker 5: I know that one is tough.
- 1:42:43Speaker 4: That is tough.
- 1:42:45Speaker 2: Let it marinade.
- 1:42:47Speaker 5: This has been marinating for for five years. I go
- 1:42:51Speaker 5: back and forth. Let's take one one more call here
- 1:42:54Speaker 5: from from Vancouver, all the way up in Canada, from Paul.
- 1:42:58Speaker 5: What's up, Paul?
- 1:43:00Speaker 8: Hey?
- 1:43:01Speaker 12: Well, how you doing today?
- 1:43:03Speaker 4: Good?
- 1:43:03Speaker 2: How are you all right?
- 1:43:05Speaker 15: Paul?
- 1:43:06Speaker 12: Don't you feel kind of old when the other says
- 1:43:08Speaker 12: things like I was in high school when the yes
- 1:43:11Speaker 12: two thousand seven.
- 1:43:12Speaker 4: Yes, I don't hate him as much as I do Alex,
- 1:43:14Speaker 4: but yes.
- 1:43:16Speaker 12: I was in university for the pad Bears Super Bowl.
- 1:43:23Speaker 4: Oh you're old. You're older than me? Wow? Oh yeah,
- 1:43:26Speaker 4: Oh yeah, that's impressive. I was my senior year of
- 1:43:29Speaker 4: high school. Only take a shot.
- 1:43:32Speaker 12: Yeah, but I would still take Evan on him for
- 1:43:35Speaker 12: a forty yard dash thing, pretty damn good cape.
- 1:43:39Speaker 4: For not me. I would pull a hand if I
- 1:43:41Speaker 4: tried to run as fast as I could for forty yards.
- 1:43:44Speaker 4: There was a zero percent chance that I wouldn't pull
- 1:43:46Speaker 4: my hands.
- 1:43:47Speaker 3: You should see me in the pickup kickball league. Almost
- 1:43:49Speaker 3: ripped the hamstering off the bone.
- 1:43:51Speaker 5: More of a three tone guy. Just the fact that
- 1:43:53Speaker 5: you quicker take part.
- 1:43:54Speaker 2: In of when's last time you sprinted?
- 1:43:57Speaker 5: Sprinted? Yeah?
- 1:43:58Speaker 2: Me, you too?
- 1:43:59Speaker 4: Oh I covid covid yeah. I was running a lot
- 1:44:03Speaker 4: in COVID and I used to sprint at the ends.
- 1:44:06Speaker 5: Yeah, I would say, well I sprint.
- 1:44:07Speaker 12: Uh, I sprint all the time. I'm I'm a basketball referee, so.
- 1:44:13Speaker 4: You don't sprint if you're a basketball That's like saying
- 1:44:16Speaker 4: Marcus smartt plays good tough defense.
- 1:44:19Speaker 12: Oh I just uh, I just did the I just
- 1:44:22Speaker 12: did a game last weekend here in Vancouver with the
- 1:44:26Speaker 12: the provincial under seventeen boys team versus a university university team.
- 1:44:32Speaker 12: I thin because they the evincial teams going the national next month,
- 1:44:36Speaker 12: and they wanted to practice seven second offenses. So I
- 1:44:39Speaker 12: was up and down that court.
- 1:44:40Speaker 4: Real real foun Yeah, courts base.
- 1:44:43Speaker 5: I'm a little surprised that basketball not hockey up there.
- 1:44:45Speaker 12: Uh yeah, well Paul, Yeah, I know it's only half
- 1:44:49Speaker 12: one there. But I run fifty k's a week too,
- 1:44:52Speaker 12: so oh wow. So I do do a storiety of stuff.
- 1:44:57Speaker 12: But anyway, I got a question for you with the
- 1:45:02Speaker 12: NBA had their draft last week and the NHL, well,
- 1:45:05Speaker 12: right now it's all going around two to seventh right yep,
- 1:45:08Speaker 12: And both of them are going to start free agency
- 1:45:10Speaker 12: next week. But the NFL has it the other way around.
- 1:45:15Speaker 12: I know the current system came about more from litigation
- 1:45:19Speaker 12: than really planning, but I do kind of think it's
- 1:45:23Speaker 12: backwards for the NFL because there's way more players drafted
- 1:45:28Speaker 12: in the NFL are going to play next year than
- 1:45:30Speaker 12: it's going to especially in NHL. Right it's maybe three
- 1:45:33Speaker 12: or four guys that might be there next year. They're
- 1:45:35Speaker 12: drafted this yesterday today, and the team purposes, building purposes,
- 1:45:41Speaker 12: don't you think it's better to you, you know, and
- 1:45:43Speaker 12: it's more opportunity to get best player available there first
- 1:45:48Speaker 12: and then plug your needs in free agency. And then
- 1:45:52Speaker 12: for the players, I think it's beneficial to them that
- 1:45:57Speaker 12: they can hold sort of desperate teams over the a
- 1:46:00Speaker 12: little bit and they might be able to get rid
- 1:46:03Speaker 12: of all these free agencies to wait, they might really
- 1:46:06Speaker 12: have rid of these many camps and you know, mandatory
- 1:46:10Speaker 12: things that they don't want to go to anyway. So
- 1:46:13Speaker 12: I do an you think there's any momentum to change this,
- 1:46:15Speaker 12: or you just thinks I'm just going to go with
- 1:46:16Speaker 12: it and a better system.
- 1:46:18Speaker 4: Or yeah, there has been talk about flip flopping the timing,
- 1:46:22Speaker 4: and I do understand, I don't necessarily understand what the
- 1:46:27Speaker 4: second part of that was with I don't know how
- 1:46:29Speaker 4: that would impact.
- 1:46:32Speaker 5: Not if free agency is not until May one?
- 1:46:35Speaker 4: Oh no, they would never do that, right, They would
- 1:46:37Speaker 4: move the draft up. I wouldn't because you can't push
- 1:46:40Speaker 4: the Yeah, think about when free agency is for the
- 1:46:44Speaker 4: NFL and I mean the NBA. In the NHL, it's
- 1:46:47Speaker 4: like two weeks after the season. It's the same timing
- 1:46:50Speaker 4: as the NFL. The difference is the draft coincides with it,
- 1:46:54Speaker 4: and for some reason they have the draft two months
- 1:46:57Speaker 4: later in the NFL, And people have talked about that,
- 1:47:00Speaker 4: wouldn't it make more sense? And I agree from if
- 1:47:02Speaker 4: I were an owner, I would rather have the draft
- 1:47:05Speaker 4: than free agency because now I'm not necessarily having to
- 1:47:08Speaker 4: spend one hundred million dollars to get somebody because I
- 1:47:10Speaker 4: desperately need that somebody. So I think now I can
- 1:47:13Speaker 4: see if I can fill it in the draft, and
- 1:47:14Speaker 4: then if I can't, then I do free agency.
- 1:47:18Speaker 5: I just I think that the the main thing to
- 1:47:21Speaker 5: me that presents the issue there is is planning in
- 1:47:26Speaker 5: prep work for the draft for the pro personnel side
- 1:47:31Speaker 5: gets really difficult because the.
- 1:47:34Speaker 4: Coach is not going to change.
- 1:47:35Speaker 5: But right, I mean, you know, the coaches like Bill
- 1:47:37Speaker 5: Belichick's to the GM and he's making the picks. He's
- 1:47:40Speaker 5: coaching until you know, mid January or early January, and
- 1:47:44Speaker 5: then you're telling him that he's got a draft in
- 1:47:47Speaker 5: two months instead of three or four months. Like that's
- 1:47:50Speaker 5: that's a really quick turnaround.
- 1:47:51Speaker 4: Oh, I would do it even quicker than that.
- 1:47:53Speaker 5: I think that's too quick because you have the combine
- 1:47:55Speaker 5: you have.
- 1:47:56Speaker 4: I would have it. I would have it at the
- 1:47:58Speaker 4: beginning of March. I would have it the season ends,
- 1:48:00Speaker 4: first week of February. I'll give you a few weeks.
- 1:48:03Speaker 4: But it's never going to go back because they've turned
- 1:48:05Speaker 4: it into a money making machine with the nonsense and
- 1:48:10Speaker 4: they're not competing now.
- 1:48:12Speaker 5: It's a completely nonsense, yeah, especially now with the next
- 1:48:16Speaker 5: gen type stuff. But it's it's also spreads out the
- 1:48:18Speaker 5: calendar so that you have these these different.
- 1:48:21Speaker 2: The NFL's relevant all your cycle point.
- 1:48:23Speaker 4: Right, they'll they'll never change it back. But the other
- 1:48:25Speaker 4: sports have to do the same thing. Like you have
- 1:48:28Speaker 4: your scouts and your general managers are the ones that
- 1:48:31Speaker 4: make the picks in the draft.
- 1:48:32Speaker 5: Right, But I think in other sports for the most part,
- 1:48:35Speaker 5: and some teams in the NBA I don't even know
- 1:48:37Speaker 5: if this is true in the NBA anymore. They're like
- 1:48:40Speaker 5: Tom Thibodeaux. I remember he was like everything at one
- 1:48:42Speaker 5: point in time, but that doesn't happen quite as often,
- 1:48:45Speaker 5: I feel like, and there's not as much overlap. I
- 1:48:48Speaker 5: don't know, I feel like it would be really difficult.
- 1:48:52Speaker 5: I come at it from an angle of in the
- 1:48:55Speaker 5: media and the cramming in the draft prep because you're
- 1:49:01Speaker 5: all Pro football in the in the in the fall
- 1:49:04Speaker 5: and winter, and I'm not even doing anywhere near the
- 1:49:07Speaker 5: amount of work.
- 1:49:09Speaker 2: You have. A team of scouts are department.
- 1:49:11Speaker 5: But at the end of the day, they still have
- 1:49:14Speaker 5: to have you know, in our case, the head coach
- 1:49:17Speaker 5: go through the scouting how many times do you hear.
- 1:49:21Speaker 4: The term that guy really rose or fell in there?
- 1:49:28Speaker 4: Because that's when the coaches get involved. And I would
- 1:49:32Speaker 4: argue that that's probably a bad thing.
- 1:49:34Speaker 5: I would say that it's it doesn't need to be
- 1:49:36Speaker 5: quite as much time. I would agree, But I I
- 1:49:40Speaker 5: think the biggest thing is in like the Combine, it's
- 1:49:43Speaker 5: a it's a ratings bonanza, so they're probably going to
- 1:49:45Speaker 5: keep it for the money side of things, but they
- 1:49:47Speaker 5: they could literally do away with the Combine and the
- 1:49:51Speaker 5: league itself wouldn't suffer from it. Now they need the
- 1:49:55Speaker 5: medical checks and they and they in the in person
- 1:49:58Speaker 5: interviews I think are important as well. That happened in Indie.
- 1:50:01Speaker 5: But the actual event on the field, the forty that
- 1:50:04Speaker 5: type of stuff, if it wasn't a money making machine,
- 1:50:06Speaker 5: they don't. It's not practical. They don't need it any day.
- 1:50:11Speaker 5: But the Pro Days is the big thing for me
- 1:50:12Speaker 5: as well. And if you're gonna you have all these
- 1:50:15Speaker 5: schools that hold these pro days and in these scouting
- 1:50:18Speaker 5: departments and coaches need to go to all the pro days,
- 1:50:21Speaker 5: you need to. You need to leave a little bit
- 1:50:23Speaker 5: of an alley.
- 1:50:25Speaker 4: That's why they can run so bad at it.
- 1:50:27Speaker 3: Do you think ten years the Combine is gonna be around.
- 1:50:32Speaker 5: Ultimately, Yes, because I can't imagine the NFL giving up
- 1:50:35Speaker 5: the money. But I mean there's teams that didn't even
- 1:50:38Speaker 5: go to the Combine this year. Some of the really
- 1:50:41Speaker 5: analytically driven and younger regimes didn't even go. And nowadays
- 1:50:46Speaker 5: you have all this this data from like next gen
- 1:50:48Speaker 5: technology where you can get in game speed like how
- 1:50:52Speaker 5: they're running in actually doing their their jobs instead of
- 1:50:57Speaker 5: just running in spandex and in the combine.
- 1:50:59Speaker 9: Now.
- 1:50:59Speaker 5: The only difference is is that that data only goes
- 1:51:02Speaker 5: back so far, whereas a scout that's been doing this
- 1:51:06Speaker 5: for one hundred years, he has forty times for generations, right,
- 1:51:10Speaker 5: so he can say, you know, compare that his hand
- 1:51:13Speaker 5: times from this year to ten years ago. And maybe
- 1:51:15Speaker 5: you wouldn't be able to do that with the chip,
- 1:51:17Speaker 5: you know, the next gen stuff.
- 1:51:18Speaker 4: But I don't know.
- 1:51:20Speaker 5: It's it's a cram session.
- 1:51:22Speaker 4: They're never It's never going to happen for all the
- 1:51:24Speaker 4: reasons that we already said. But I could understand the rationale.
- 1:51:27Speaker 4: The other three sports basically do it differently, but it's
- 1:51:32Speaker 4: never going to change. Has become a huge thing in
- 1:51:35Speaker 4: the NFL.
- 1:51:36Speaker 5: I also don't even see it as a as a
- 1:51:39Speaker 5: advantage to the veteran players that are free agents to
- 1:51:43Speaker 5: have the draft being first. I think it's actually a disadvantage.
- 1:51:46Speaker 4: Yes, I think it would be an advantage to the teams,
- 1:51:49Speaker 4: the owners. Yeah, I agree with you.
- 1:51:51Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 1:51:51Speaker 3: An off season change i'd like to see is set
- 1:51:54Speaker 3: like a tampering period or a free agency for coaches,
- 1:51:58Speaker 3: you know what I mean, two weeks after the Super
- 1:52:01Speaker 3: Bowl like now, he like all coaches.
- 1:52:03Speaker 5: So the so the question the problem with that is
- 1:52:06Speaker 5: that you know that there's tampering going on anyways. Jonathan Gannon, Hello,
- 1:52:11Speaker 5: But at the same time I agree with you one
- 1:52:13Speaker 5: hundred and ten percent that it's an absolute mess. It's
- 1:52:16Speaker 5: a conflict of interest across the board.
- 1:52:18Speaker 4: And you're right.
- 1:52:18Speaker 5: The best thing to do is to say we're all coaching.
- 1:52:22Speaker 5: Hiring is going to start, you know, after the Super Bowl.
- 1:52:26Speaker 5: But the problem with Dad is that you lose a month, right,
- 1:52:30Speaker 5: So the teams that are eliminated don't make the playoffs,
- 1:52:33Speaker 5: they want to get to work, right, and so you
- 1:52:35Speaker 5: lose all that time. But I'm with you on that
- 1:52:38Speaker 5: as well, that it's it's it's totally a mess.
- 1:52:40Speaker 4: So I want to end sort of where we started
- 1:52:43Speaker 4: with Devonte Parker because I wanted to get you you
- 1:52:46Speaker 4: had some numbers on his targets and whatnot. Analytically, you
- 1:52:50Speaker 4: want to repeat those a little bit because those are
- 1:52:52Speaker 4: positive numbers for Parker.
- 1:52:54Speaker 5: Yeah, so on a per target per reception basis, he
- 1:52:59Speaker 5: was one of the better big play receivers in the
- 1:53:01Speaker 5: league last year, uh seventeen point four yards per reception.
- 1:53:05Speaker 5: He didn't qualify for the the leader board and yards
- 1:53:08Speaker 5: per reception, but would have been top five in the
- 1:53:12Speaker 5: league if he had eleven point five yards per target
- 1:53:16Speaker 5: at a ninety two wide receivers that's the second best,
- 1:53:18Speaker 5: only behind Jalen Waddle and yards per target. And he's
- 1:53:22Speaker 5: a guy that doesn't drop very many passes. I think
- 1:53:24Speaker 5: he had one drop all of last year. So the
- 1:53:27Speaker 5: nerds the math does like him quite a bit other
- 1:53:29Speaker 5: than the separation metrics.
- 1:53:31Speaker 4: So that was Warren Shops, So I'm going to ignore
- 1:53:34Speaker 4: I'm just kidding with Warren. I'm going to ignore him.
- 1:53:38Speaker 4: So true what's true media?
- 1:53:42Speaker 5: True media is like any like a PFF for They're.
- 1:53:46Speaker 4: Fine, Okay, So I read this today. He ranked fifty
- 1:53:50Speaker 4: six in the league and yards per route run and
- 1:53:53Speaker 4: didn't rank in the top one hundred and fifty and
- 1:53:55Speaker 4: targets per route. He only had one game all year.
- 1:53:58Speaker 5: With eighty it's the Baltimore game.
- 1:54:01Speaker 4: So I think there are metrics to sort of the
- 1:54:05Speaker 4: reason I bring this up. And I'm going to end
- 1:54:08Speaker 4: the same way I started. I'm perfectly fine with having
- 1:54:10Speaker 4: Devata Parker on my team. I worry about what it
- 1:54:14Speaker 4: might mean down the road, not fact, not factually just
- 1:54:18Speaker 4: concern like, does it mean no Hopkins? Does it mean well,
- 1:54:22Speaker 4: we're a little worried about a guy like the Wharton specifically,
- 1:54:25Speaker 4: but on a lesser extent Booty and Douglas. Do we
- 1:54:31Speaker 4: not see anything from them? Are we so concerned that
- 1:54:34Speaker 4: we need to have veteran receivers under contract for twenty
- 1:54:37Speaker 4: four and beyond. I'm a little concerned about that. Tease.
- 1:54:41Speaker 3: Final thoughts on Parker Yep, I like it whatever, like
- 1:54:45Speaker 3: above average receiver, one of the Like, he's fine. I
- 1:54:48Speaker 3: like it.
- 1:54:49Speaker 5: Still go for Hopkins, though I wish everybody on Twitter
- 1:54:51Speaker 5: had the same read back attitude as Matis.
- 1:54:54Speaker 6: I like Parker more than I think most people do.
- 1:54:57Speaker 6: I am excited to give him another year and a
- 1:55:01Speaker 6: more competent functional offense, to see what happens, just along
- 1:55:05Speaker 6: for the ride.
- 1:55:06Speaker 3: If you let like, if you let him go, if
- 1:55:08Speaker 3: you trade him like I think you're, I think there's
- 1:55:09Speaker 3: more value to keeping him on the team than let
- 1:55:11Speaker 3: him walk or trading him or cutting him this off season.
- 1:55:13Speaker 5: I will say when he when he did miss time
- 1:55:15Speaker 5: with that concussion last year, it was kind of a
- 1:55:20Speaker 5: reflection of where they were. But you did kind of
- 1:55:22Speaker 5: feel like he could help.
- 1:55:22Speaker 4: If they punted every possession with him and they punted
- 1:55:27Speaker 4: every possession without him. Okay they did.
- 1:55:30Speaker 2: It's harsh.
- 1:55:33Speaker 4: They like third from the bottom and three and outs
- 1:55:36Speaker 4: something like that.
- 1:55:37Speaker 2: Making my goal to get him to come out of this.
- 1:55:40Speaker 5: I think I.
- 1:55:42Speaker 2: Tooks.
- 1:55:44Speaker 5: Yeah, I don't think that's happening.
- 1:55:45Speaker 2: I don't make it happen.
- 1:55:48Speaker 5: Okay, I trust you. He doesn't like me. No, No,
- 1:55:50Speaker 5: I'm just kidding.
- 1:55:51Speaker 4: He trust her. She's broken hearted because Marcus Smart is
- 1:55:56Speaker 4: on the Memphis Grizzlies, and you trust.
- 1:55:58Speaker 2: Him broken hearted. I'm a grisliness fan.
- 1:56:00Speaker 5: I trust her to see when we're in the locker room.
- 1:56:03Speaker 5: A little little behind the scenes here, we're in the
- 1:56:05Speaker 5: locker room. They love talking to Alex. They don't like
- 1:56:08Speaker 5: talking to me as much because I want to, like
- 1:56:10Speaker 5: I want things that they can't tell me, you know,
- 1:56:12Speaker 5: like what route were you running here?
- 1:56:14Speaker 4: What where?
- 1:56:15Speaker 5: What was the play call there?
- 1:56:16Speaker 4: Or whatever?
- 1:56:16Speaker 5: But like, yeah, Alex keeps it light.
- 1:56:18Speaker 2: They think I'm like, they come up to her.
- 1:56:21Speaker 4: What's going on? What's me?
- 1:56:22Speaker 5: They're like, I can't say anything in front of this kid,
- 1:56:25Speaker 5: So give me the side, Alex, do you want to
- 1:56:29Speaker 5: mint it? On Marcus Smart, you want to pour one out.
- 1:56:31Speaker 5: You were here when this happened.
- 1:56:33Speaker 6: I know I took so I was packing for a
- 1:56:36Speaker 6: flight when the trade's all happening.
- 1:56:39Speaker 2: I'm like, okay, Brogdon's gone.
- 1:56:40Speaker 4: Whatever.
- 1:56:41Speaker 6: Okay, Brad, I see you, like this is a piece
- 1:56:43Speaker 6: we need cool wake up at three thirty am to
- 1:56:46Speaker 6: catch my flight. My favorite players not on the team anymore.
- 1:56:50Speaker 6: It was a sad day. I don't get it. I
- 1:56:52Speaker 6: was like, okay, like the two draft picks must have
- 1:56:54Speaker 6: really swayed it here. Then the draft came and I
- 1:56:58Speaker 6: just I don't know.
- 1:57:01Speaker 2: I don't like it.
- 1:57:01Speaker 5: Can I ask you? And I'm not being being optusey?
- 1:57:05Speaker 4: He or what?
- 1:57:05Speaker 5: What made Marcus Smart your favorite player? Because I did.
- 1:57:08Speaker 5: He definitely has.
- 1:57:10Speaker 2: The way he plays.
- 1:57:11Speaker 6: I would have loved to play basketball with him. He
- 1:57:14Speaker 6: he's just gritty, he cares.
- 1:57:18Speaker 2: I love the way he sees the game. I like
- 1:57:19Speaker 2: the way facilitate the way you were.
- 1:57:22Speaker 4: Were you a big scorer?
- 1:57:23Speaker 2: I was a point guard. I was pretty scrappy.
- 1:57:25Speaker 4: Okay, so you wouldn't have minded playing with him? Then
- 1:57:27Speaker 4: that would be fine because you're not really looking for
- 1:57:29Speaker 4: the ball to score or do anything. So no problem.
- 1:57:33Speaker 4: If I'm Jason Tatum or Jayaln Brown, I don't necessarily
- 1:57:36Speaker 4: want to play with that.
- 1:57:36Speaker 2: Who is the assist leader on that team. I don't
- 1:57:38Speaker 2: even know what.
- 1:57:39Speaker 4: The numbers were, but assist leader.
- 1:57:42Speaker 2: I like defensive basketball. I think I do too. They
- 1:57:46Speaker 2: want to get back to that, and I.
- 1:57:48Speaker 4: Think, and I think this is a state to continue.
- 1:57:51Speaker 6: To make some moves because I think we lost a
- 1:57:54Speaker 6: lot of our heart, we lost a lot of our grit.
- 1:57:57Speaker 2: I'm using our two which.
- 1:57:58Speaker 5: I haven't done a while, and he lost We gotta,
- 1:58:01Speaker 5: you know, against a little bit. But this is my
- 1:58:04Speaker 5: one little pushback about the heart and soul of the
- 1:58:07Speaker 5: Celtics going to UH to Memphis all playoffs long. And
- 1:58:12Speaker 5: I defend the Celtics. I'm a green teamer, I'm a
- 1:58:15Speaker 5: season ticket holder. I love the Celtics to death all
- 1:58:17Speaker 5: playoffs long. Though I hear about they have no balls,
- 1:58:20Speaker 5: they have no grit, they have no toughness. They they
- 1:58:23Speaker 5: wilt in the biggest moments, and now they've lost their
- 1:58:26Speaker 5: heart and now they've lost they lost.
- 1:58:28Speaker 6: That great Always you can find me saying on this
- 1:58:30Speaker 6: radio show, they have one point five dogs on this team.
- 1:58:35Speaker 6: Marcus and Kind of like and Derek White and now.
- 1:58:40Speaker 4: I don't know, so do you think?
- 1:58:42Speaker 6: And this is my it's also Tatum's favorite player ever
- 1:58:44Speaker 6: he's ever played with.
- 1:58:45Speaker 2: That means something to me. When that's my star I'm
- 1:58:47Speaker 2: building my franchise around.
- 1:58:49Speaker 5: I'll get over it.
- 1:58:50Speaker 4: I don't think he cares enough.
- 1:58:52Speaker 5: So here here's my thing, my one thing that I'm
- 1:58:54Speaker 5: hopeful for. And I want your take on this. What
- 1:58:57Speaker 5: if in order for Tatum to be be the dog,
- 1:59:01Speaker 5: to be the alpha, they needed to move Marcus out
- 1:59:05Speaker 5: of the picture, Like what if this Tatum now sees this,
- 1:59:09Speaker 5: this leadership void, this this you know, alpha toil it?
- 1:59:13Speaker 6: Or do you think it's gonna be Jalen taking upon
- 1:59:16Speaker 6: himself because I I'll tell Jalen.
- 1:59:18Speaker 4: I don't know the answer to any of those. As
- 1:59:20Speaker 4: you know, I am well established. I worry about things
- 1:59:22Speaker 4: that haven't happened. I just know that it wasn't going
- 1:59:25Speaker 4: to happen with Marcus Smart being in that alpha role.
- 1:59:27Speaker 4: It was not ever going to work.
- 1:59:29Speaker 6: But I don't think he necessarily wanted to be in
- 1:59:31Speaker 6: the alpha role. I think he was like, all right,
- 1:59:33Speaker 6: no one else has all I.
- 1:59:34Speaker 2: Think it was like all right, if no one else
- 1:59:36Speaker 2: is gonna give a damn.
- 1:59:37Speaker 4: I just guess the last five minutes of a close
- 1:59:40Speaker 4: game where he doesn't have to be out there. That's
- 1:59:42Speaker 4: what I'm most looking forward to. I think we're gonna
- 1:59:45Speaker 4: so maybe when different this one guy completely uncovered, that
- 1:59:49Speaker 4: guy might be able to.
- 1:59:52Speaker 3: I'm gonna miss the smart.
- 1:59:55Speaker 4: When he made it. I would have to have heard
- 1:59:58Speaker 4: that to miss it.
- 1:59:58Speaker 3: Oh, you know the six games. I watched it the
- 2:00:00Speaker 3: greatest bar. I'm screaming it.
- 2:00:03Speaker 4: But we'll see, we'll see. It's gonna be an interesting
- 2:00:07Speaker 4: I think.
- 2:00:07Speaker 6: I think the move itself on paper is like probably
- 2:00:10Speaker 6: a good move.
- 2:00:11Speaker 2: We had a lot of guard depth, I think.
- 2:00:13Speaker 6: I mean I told you like, I'd like to have
- 2:00:15Speaker 6: a guy like Siam or someone come in. We need
- 2:00:18Speaker 6: like a big Al's too old now, So it's like
- 2:00:20Speaker 6: on paper, I like the move it just like I
- 2:00:22Speaker 6: liked it better when it was Brogden.
- 2:00:24Speaker 5: Yeah, we all liked it better when it was brogged.
- 2:00:25Speaker 5: I agree with that. But Paul, don't tell because I
- 2:00:30Speaker 5: have to. I have to bring this up in front
- 2:00:32Speaker 5: of Alex. Paul told me when this trade happened that
- 2:00:36Speaker 5: Brogden is a better defender than Marcus Smart.
- 2:00:39Speaker 4: He's a better player.
- 2:00:39Speaker 2: I said, defensive player of the Year.
- 2:00:43Speaker 4: He's told me that a number of times. I'm well
- 2:00:46Speaker 4: aware that he was the d p O Y better
- 2:00:48Speaker 4: defellow player.
- 2:00:49Speaker 2: I think we'll see it all. We'll see it all
- 2:00:53Speaker 2: shake out next year.
- 2:00:54Speaker 4: I think they're comparable defensively. I think they both sucked defensively.
- 2:00:57Speaker 4: Do you think I think. I think his career Brockton
- 2:01:01Speaker 4: was a good defensive player. I don't think he was
- 2:01:03Speaker 4: last year, Okay, but I know Smart wasn't. All right.
- 2:01:07Speaker 5: Well, we gotta wrap. We gotta land this plane. That's
