- 0:00If you had a choice and you could live forever, would you do it?
- 0:04Would you want to live forever?
- 0:06Stephen Bartlett on the Diary of a CEO podcast had on there a Harvard professor
- 0:10who discussed what they science breakthroughs that are happening,
- 0:15that we could be getting closer to a point where we could reverse aging and
- 0:20maybe eventually live forever. This singularity moment.
- 0:26Would you want to be around for that time? We're going to dive into this.
- 0:30And I want to give, would it be the best thing if that actually happened?
- 0:34This is what most people forget is that technology isn't static.
- 0:38When you're old, you will not be
- 0:40using today's technology. You'll be using technology of 2070, 2080, right?
- 0:46And then you'll be able to live into the 22nd century and take advantage of those technologies.
- 0:51That's why people talk about the singularity. The singularity is this idea that
- 0:55if you can make it to a certain point in human history, you won't have to age anymore.
- 1:00And that's in the future, right? But first steps first. Let's show that we can
- 1:03get this to cure blindness and then get to the point where every year that we
- 1:08get one year older, we can get one year younger.
- 1:11When that happens, it's a very interesting world, right? You don't have to age anymore.
- 1:17That is a future. I don't know when we're going to get there.
- 1:19But if you don't live 10 to 20 years longer than your parents, something's wrong.
- 1:23On that point of the singularity so this is a particular moment in
- 1:27time where we're going to be able to make aging or age
- 1:30reversal i guess a choice right so that i guess the thinking or the theory is
- 1:34that if you can just make sure you survive up until this particular date then
- 1:39you have the choice to live forever is that how is that like the theory that's
- 1:43what they say yes oh that's very interesting i and the the date that people
- 1:48are throwing out there is 2040 i.
- 1:51But in the near future, they're getting to the point where they're doing tests
- 1:55on animals like mice, and they're seeing things that they can reverse the age
- 2:00and slow down that process.
- 2:01But when we just like take when we think about this, you personally,
- 2:06if you could live forever, would you? Would you want to live forever?
- 2:10I think of Conan O'Brien. I heard like a story. It wasn't really a joke of his,
- 2:15but he gave a story of when he was young. He asked his I think I was a nun.
- 2:19He went to a Catholic school.
- 2:21And he asked her, what is heaven going to be like? What is heaven?
- 2:24And the answer that she gave, God bless her.
- 2:29But the answer she gave was, what is your favorite thing to do?
- 2:32And Conan being a little kid, he's like, I like coloring.
- 2:36And then she's like, well, that's what heaven is going to be like forever.
- 2:40And that just terrified Conan O'Brien because he's like, you think I want to
- 2:45color forever and ever and ever?
- 2:48And it's just really, it's like, it's, it's funny because the natural man,
- 2:52the natural person, that's what they think of.
- 2:54Oh, we're going to just be off in the sky, you know, playing harps in the clouds,
- 2:59you know, singing praise to God.
- 3:01How fun can that be? and it's just this this weird just because it's not something
- 3:06we can comprehend it's not in our,
- 3:08it's not in our natural world so it's like it doesn't make sense but when you
- 3:12give this just metaphor of we we're just going to be coloring forever it doesn't
- 3:17that doesn't sound too fun and i can understand why that would terrorize conan
- 3:22o'brien and probably just put him off on even though she's doing the best she
- 3:25can she like we all make analogies we want to make these things.
- 3:29That reaches us at our level where we're at right now.
- 3:33But there's this difference going on with regular people, the people that you
- 3:38go across today, because that is like throughout history, since we have been
- 3:42separated from God, we're always trying to be self-reliant.
- 3:47We want to reach our own goals. We want to live forever.
- 3:51But God, he in his grace, he made it so that we didn't live forever.
- 3:55That's like the story in the book of Genesis.
- 3:58That whenever Adam and Eve sinned, he made it impossible so that they couldn't
- 4:03reach out to the tree of life and live forever. And there was grace in that because...
- 4:08In our fallen state, we understand that nobody's perfect.
- 4:12It's like, it wouldn't be that great to live forever how we are, how we are right now.
- 4:18And the whole point of it is because we want to live self-sustaining,
- 4:22whereas God is the one who sustains everything.
- 4:26And it's like, we want to do it on our own and we don't want to like be with him.
- 4:30And God knows that that's not the best for us. And this, cause this is where
- 4:34it goes. I know I'm kind of dumbing it down because I'm probably like a dummy or whatever.
- 4:38I, I, I, I think in these simple terms terms, um, but I just see it over and over.
- 4:44It's a cycle and repeat that people want to live forever. That's our goal.
- 4:47We want to try to do something. We want to make our health.
- 4:50And it's not like, cause there is a goodness. I was just talking to my wife
- 4:53about this, about like, I don't necessarily want to live.
- 4:57I wouldn't want to live forever the way that I am now because this world is
- 5:01not great. I'm not the greatest person.
- 5:03I mess up and all that. And, but she was like, it's good to take care of your
- 5:07health because of quality of life.
- 5:09The way that you go through life now, it is good because you're going to feel
- 5:13better as you age, but there has to be a term, a terminating point because if
- 5:18we just went on and on the whole,
- 5:20that's, we're not, we're not at peace because we're separated from God at this point.
- 5:26We need to be with him. We need to be with our maker. God has made impossible
- 5:30to, for us to be complete away from him.
- 5:35And I think that this is just a natural men perspective because they're like, God might be real.
- 5:41He might be a thing. He might not. I don't know. We'll find out, I guess, whatever.
- 5:45And so like, and since we don't know what's going to happen,
- 5:48we just want to prolong this thing because we don't want to come to the realization of death.
- 5:53We're all going to reach it. We're all going to make it to death.
- 5:56And we just want to push that off.
- 5:59It is kind of a little bit, I don't know, ominous that we are getting to this
- 6:04point where we could get a point where we have these science breakthroughs that
- 6:08people could reverse aging and start living forever.
- 6:11God said in the book of Genesis, when they were trying to make the Tower of
- 6:15Babel, that with these people, they could do almost anything.
- 6:19And that's why he had to confuse their language.
- 6:22When they're all working together, it's like we have a very immense power in
- 6:27us. and God, they were making a tower to Babel for their own glory so that they
- 6:31could say, we don't need you, God. We can do it. We're good.
- 6:35And I think this is the same thing. I think we should take care of ourselves.
- 6:39But when it gets to the point that we don't need God, we're going to just live forever on our own.
- 6:44We see that over and over that God, he puts these stop gaps in place so that
- 6:49we realize we do need him.
- 6:51And I think that this isn't always the greatest thing because what people want
- 6:57to hear, they want to hear about wealth. They want to hear about getting rich.
- 6:59They want to hear about living, like having health and all that.
- 7:04And I think those are good things. But when you get to the point where you want
- 7:07to live forever, that's just showing you that your mind is not seeing things clearly.
- 7:12We're not meant to live forever here.
- 7:14We're meant to live with God.
- 7:17And that's the whole difference between heaven and hell.
- 7:20These are very stark contrasts because one is with God and the other is apart from God.
- 7:26And God is the source of goodness and grace, and he's perfect.
- 7:29And it's like, when we want to just do our own thing, we're going to fall off a cliff.
- 7:34And I respect that Stephen Bartlett, he just had on there, Wes Huff on there,
- 7:39and they got into a lot of this heaven stuff and all this God things.
- 7:43We, he immediately went to, went to this because, I mean, it is tough because
- 7:48it's like, once you go down the God route, I know we can talk about other things,
- 7:51but it's like, once you start really talking about God and thinking about God, he is all that matters.
- 7:57Jesus Christ, he's better than TikTok.
- 7:59He's better than Twitter. He's better than the best thing in this life that you're going to find.
- 8:03And it's like, that's why there's this like community. If like with everybody
- 8:07on earth, if you could go across the world and if someone knows Christ,
- 8:12you have the most, like, you have a connection with them that you don't have
- 8:16with anybody because the person that is perfect, that we all love and we are all worshiping,
- 8:21it's like nothing, everything else is a letdown.
- 8:24And I think this world is a letdown and God doesn't want us to be letdown.
- 8:28And that's why he doesn't want us to live forever in this condition.
- 8:31He wants us to live forever with him.
- 8:33So let's go forward and try to take care of our health, you know,
- 8:37because for have that quality of life, but have a right mindset.
- 8:41We're not meant to live forever. And almost it's a judgment.
- 8:44If we would live forever, we see in like in revelation, the book of revelation,
- 8:47it says that people are going to be wanting, seeking death, but they're not
- 8:52going to be able to find it.
- 8:53And that might be because we have some type of scientific breakthrough that
- 8:57people are injecting themselves and they can't die and they just want to,
- 9:01they want to, and they can't, they can't escape.
- 9:04It's that you're coloring forever.
- 9:06And this, you're doing something you're, you're, we're chasing after something
- 9:10that is less than we're always chasing after the counterfeit as opposed to the
- 9:15real deal, which is God. All right, we'll leave it at that.
