Transcript
- 0:00[SPEAKER_00]: guy here in his Monday morning, the 49ers, one of the three undefeated teams left in the NFL with the Vikings and the Chiefs since 1990, if you start 4 and 0, you have an 85% chance of making the playoffs.
- 0:12[SPEAKER_00]: But as we know, the season really starts now this week with Seattle, you know, I was talking to a buddy of the 80s.
- 0:19[SPEAKER_00]: I know what you're doing February, 14th now and I was like, hold on.
- 0:23[SPEAKER_00]: Hold on, gotta go through the seahawks, gotta have to get the rams later.
- 0:29[SPEAKER_00]: But this kind of feels like,
- 0:32[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe the first of a three round fight again this year just like it was last year with the Seattle Seahawks And this is what it's all been building to I'm not gonna ignore the Denver game.
- 0:41[SPEAKER_00]: We'll get to the Denver game But this is what the whole off season's been building to and the the reality is to sputtle the injuries being foreign Of the 49ers were to lose to Seattle.
- 0:50[SPEAKER_00]: It's still being great shape because they have they they won that first game got the momentum and then cash in all three home games And that's great
- 0:59[SPEAKER_00]: And if you had to before the season, not even knowing what the 49ers did in their first three predict, okay, let's say they lose three.
- 1:05[SPEAKER_00]: Let's say it was going to be great.
- 1:07[SPEAKER_00]: Very optimistic.
- 1:08[SPEAKER_00]: It's still pick this one as a game they can lose.
- 1:11[SPEAKER_00]: So of course they can, but it's also a chance to prove something and they just keep proving things.
- 1:15[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, they have you wouldn't have thought this would be the recipe.
- 1:19[SPEAKER_00]: You knew it would be a part of the recipe, but you wouldn't have thought it'd be the whole recipe.
- 1:24[SPEAKER_00]: The oldest average age of touchdown scores.
- 1:27[SPEAKER_00]: the 49ers are second.
- 1:30[SPEAKER_00]: The first place team and the third place team in that category, the oldest average age of their touchdown scores, and their touchdown scores this week were 30 or older, the Raiders.
- 1:41[SPEAKER_00]: In 2001, with Jerry Rice, Tim Brown, Rich Gannon.
- 1:46[SPEAKER_00]: And then the Niners in 2026, and then the 2002 Raiders with Jerry Rice and Tim Brown and Rich Ganon.
- 1:54[SPEAKER_00]: And when you think back on that team, my memory, my memory, it's like, oh, kind of, Jerry Atrick.
- 2:00[SPEAKER_00]: No.
- 2:01[SPEAKER_00]: These guys don't look that way, right?
- 2:03[SPEAKER_00]: And I think, you know, we interviewed on the Canberra Post game, and it was such a fun game to call with Tim Ryan.
- 2:08[SPEAKER_00]: On Canberra, feeling it again for Greg Papa.
- 2:14[SPEAKER_00]: I think you really understand everything about the way Debo Samuel looks when you hear him describe what it is he's trying to do on every place as I'm trying to score on every play.
- 2:24[SPEAKER_00]: And when you think about every Debo play with that in your mind, he's trying to score on every play.
- 2:30[SPEAKER_00]: He's not trying to catch it for eight get-abounds.
- 2:33[SPEAKER_00]: He's trying to score on every play.
- 2:35[SPEAKER_00]: And you could kind of say the same thing about George the way he plays.
- 2:39[SPEAKER_00]: But when you, like that is, that's Debo.
- 2:43[SPEAKER_00]: And it's why he's been
- 2:46[SPEAKER_00]: a game changer or season changer.
- 2:47[SPEAKER_00]: It's amazing to think he wasn't on this team when training camp started.
- 2:51[SPEAKER_00]: They say they were going to, you know, think it about signing them whether or not Ricky Pierce all got hurt.
- 2:55[SPEAKER_00]: But
- 2:56[SPEAKER_00]: He is one of the best players on the field in every game he plays and a true game changer.
- 3:02[SPEAKER_00]: I watched all 30 of Brock Pertis throws today and I thought what was really interesting about it is the way he finished.
- 3:10[SPEAKER_00]: I said this a lot and I've said this a lot even before the season, before the season, I said I think Brock Pertis can have his best year ever and I've said repeatedly the way you elevate as a quarterback.
- 3:20[SPEAKER_00]: You know, there's no question stats or a big part of winning the MVP, but
- 3:28[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not so concerned about winning the award as I am just like elevating to the type of player that is in that mix because that's also the type of player that can lead a team to a Super Bowl despite multiple injuries, which is what's going on, what has been going on.
- 3:44[SPEAKER_00]: And so I thought this was kind of an embodiment of a game for Brock Perti, where I don't want to hear about the stats of the box score.
- 3:51[SPEAKER_00]: And I feel that way, the great games we talk about the stats in the box score, but as I've been saying, like, the EPA is not what gets Brock Perti from whatever this level is to whatever the next level is.
- 4:03[SPEAKER_00]: Not just in terms of perception, but in terms of, like, really accomplishing the goal.
- 4:08[SPEAKER_00]: Like, when we talk about all this stuff, I don't care so much about the people think what's the national narrative, the goal.
- 4:16[SPEAKER_00]: Beat Seattle.
- 4:18[SPEAKER_00]: Beat Philly, beat the ramps, beat the Vikings, beat the Raidas, win a Super Bowl.
- 4:26[SPEAKER_00]: So to me, EPA, you know, it's the stat we talk about because he's such an outlier and he's better than everybody in these efficiency stats and they're valuable, they're important ways to kind of paint the picture.
- 4:42[SPEAKER_00]: But, you know, they're also
- 4:46[SPEAKER_00]: It's also a stat that connects him to Kyle Shanahan, which is fine.
- 4:50[SPEAKER_00]: I've said this a million times over the years.
- 4:52[SPEAKER_00]: Great coaches, great quarterbacks, like it's not an accident.
- 4:54[SPEAKER_00]: The greatest quarterback of all time happens to have played for the greatest coach of all time, Montana and Walsh.
- 4:59[SPEAKER_00]: And then the two guys that supplanted them for greatest coach and greatest quarterback of all time were together, Brady and Bella check.
- 5:07[SPEAKER_00]: I always said that people were like, oh, well, you know, perdi has Kyle.
- 5:15[SPEAKER_00]: It takes more than one.
- 5:18[SPEAKER_00]: And so, like, I don't think there's any question that the efficiency is largely, Kyle gets credit for, in addition to Brock getting credit for it.
- 5:27[SPEAKER_00]: And I think what happens is, Brock is able to get the most out of Kyle and Kyle's able to get the most out of Brock.
- 5:33[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's why.
- 5:33[SPEAKER_00]: And I said this last week during the interview, I did with Theongear.
- 5:36[SPEAKER_00]: Am I?
- 5:36[SPEAKER_00]: I thought Grant asked, Grant Cohen asked a great question of, of Kyle Shanley said, like, are you in the flow right now or something?
- 5:43[SPEAKER_00]: And Kyle's like, nah, this is,
- 5:45[SPEAKER_00]: I feel the same as I always do calling plays, but I think what's elevating it is the quarterback.
- 5:50[SPEAKER_00]: But this was a game where you go beyond some of the efficiency stats and where you really become a star.
- 6:00[SPEAKER_00]: Is moments.
- 6:03[SPEAKER_00]: Star moments.
- 6:06[SPEAKER_00]: Big wins.
- 6:08[SPEAKER_00]: You sit down, we love that you sit down on
- 6:15[SPEAKER_00]: You don't know what's going in the home stats.
- 6:18[SPEAKER_00]: They're going in the home's plays.
- 6:20[SPEAKER_00]: You don't go Montana stats or Brady stats.
- 6:23[SPEAKER_00]: Brady, I mean, he did have a year in particular.
- 6:25[SPEAKER_00]: They lost the Super Bowl.
- 6:26[SPEAKER_00]: We were like, oh my God, the stats are ridiculous.
- 6:27[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not ignoring the stats.
- 6:28[SPEAKER_00]: I'm just saying, when you really elevate to the next level, it's about moments.
- 6:33[SPEAKER_00]: And it's about elevating your team in specific games on specific plays against specific opponents.
- 6:41[SPEAKER_00]: And the Niners are gonna have those chances this year.
- 6:45[SPEAKER_00]: Um, like I'm thinking about those defenses and so this was the Denver game where Denver's past rush, you know, Denver's not the defense they were last year, but they got to all pros on their defensive line in Bonito and Zach Allen and Zach Allen 99's a problem.
- 7:02[SPEAKER_00]: And yeah, they lost their two top corners during the game.
- 7:04[SPEAKER_00]: But to me, it was about like keeping your cool, keeping your head.
- 7:07[SPEAKER_00]: It was, there was a lot of pressure.
- 7:10[SPEAKER_00]: The pocket was a little more uncomfortable this week than it's been in previous weeks.
- 7:14[SPEAKER_00]: And I, and I thought no sacks allowed through four games in the first three, it was a protection and prevention stat, as much as it was a, um, avoidance stat.
- 7:27[SPEAKER_00]: I think really this week, it wasn't a avoidance stat,
- 7:32[SPEAKER_00]: sacks.
- 7:33[SPEAKER_00]: There were times where he really, you know, he couldn't step into throws or he had to make a decision and he wouldn't want to make.
- 7:38[SPEAKER_00]: You got hit on the shoulder on one.
- 7:41[SPEAKER_00]: So like it was a problem.
- 7:43[SPEAKER_00]: And in those games, it's like, how do you finish crunch time that I, there's now in crunch time the last two weeks against Arizona, not as good, Denver better, Denver come from behind from 10 down the previous two games against Jacksonville and the Rams.
- 7:58[SPEAKER_00]: That's what they do.
- 8:00[SPEAKER_00]: And you know, I'm not a big bonus guy, but because of his mobility, his arms strength through the ball 14 times, his backs can catch and run.
- 8:09[SPEAKER_00]: But this was now back to back weeks for the nine, his offense went on to the field with a lead.
- 8:12[SPEAKER_00]: It wasn't a comeback situation, but went on the field with a lead.
- 8:15[SPEAKER_00]: It was like, okay, go make it a two scoring game and get a little breathing room and they did.
- 8:19[SPEAKER_00]: And Brock Perti from the middle of the third quarter on through one in completion.
- 8:25[SPEAKER_00]: His last 10 throws, he completed nine of them.
- 8:28[SPEAKER_00]: And, you know, the completion percentage, whatever it was, but he kept his cooling didn't get rattled, and he made some plays.
- 8:36[SPEAKER_00]: Nine meds to go in the third quarter found Kittle on an escape valve at the sideline.
- 8:41[SPEAKER_00]: Next throw was, and I think even some of the layup throws you really see it.
- 8:46[SPEAKER_00]: Debo.
- 8:48[SPEAKER_00]: deep in the red zone, like inside the 10, he throws a quick screen to debo, and that's a ball where, you know, that play is, you want it to score, but ideally, at least getting not ideally, at least you want to get six yards, seven yards out of it.
- 9:01[SPEAKER_00]: And if you throw that on the guy's back hip, instead of at his face mask or on his front shoulder, that can quickly become a two yard play because it just, you don't have a lot of time, there's not a lot of space.
- 9:11[SPEAKER_00]: Debo the touchdown.
- 9:12[SPEAKER_00]: He wanted evidence over the middle.
- 9:14[SPEAKER_00]: He created, I think Brock who, you know, he's he's been one of the best scrambleers in the league.
- 9:19[SPEAKER_00]: I think what's really cool about when party scramble is you hear guys talk about quarterbacks who are scrambleing to run versus guys who escape the pocket looking to throw.
- 9:29[SPEAKER_00]: Brock does this thing where he leaves the pocket and is ready to run and then can immediately snap back and you know what I'm going to throw.
- 9:37[SPEAKER_00]: And that's what happened on he did it on the touchdown to Debo and then he did it his next throw was that play to Kyle use check that juice got hurt on where Brock I I'd be interesting to ask him I thought like why is he leaving the pocket on this play he leaves the pocket I think sometimes he leaves the pocket not because of pressure but he leaves the pocket to create for the receivers like create little space, create
- 9:59[SPEAKER_00]: change in angle.
- 10:01[SPEAKER_00]: He got hit on that play by Zach Allen after he let it go.
- 10:03[SPEAKER_00]: It was a great throw and unfortunately for use check in injury.
- 10:07[SPEAKER_00]: Then he starts the fourth quarter with a bullet out to the right to Mike Evans, a short throw to D-Boy because it's D-Boy get it in his hands nine yards.
- 10:16[SPEAKER_00]: The Mike Evans dime then came next down to the two-yard line great, I mean incredible block by George Kittle on Nick Bidito on that play.
- 10:23[SPEAKER_00]: Then he throws an incompletion to McCaffrey, which was, I think, highlights the issue, the problem, one of the problems that gets created without use check, which is a big picture.
- 10:34[SPEAKER_00]: Like, hopefully, juice is back soon.
- 10:36[SPEAKER_00]: We'll get an update on it.
- 10:37[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe Monday afternoon from Kyle, but I think you have to expect that you're not going to have him this week, and maybe the next, I don't know, we'll see.
- 10:45[SPEAKER_00]: But you know, on juice, who knows with that guy, he could be back soon, at less than a
- 10:53[SPEAKER_00]: Um, but Brad Willis is lined up outside the numbers on on this particular play that I'm talking about.
- 10:57[SPEAKER_00]: It was that swing pass to McAfrey.
- 10:59[SPEAKER_00]: It was actually better Christian and Ketchit because he probably would have lost a yard of two.
- 11:03[SPEAKER_00]: The defense was ready for it almost baited the Niners into that play.
- 11:08[SPEAKER_00]: Brayton Willis has never had a catch in a game.
- 11:12[SPEAKER_00]: He had a great thumble recovery on Sunday, but he's never had a catch And you've got him lined up outside the numbers like it's a pro like it's not just that you lost Jews It's that you lost conscious because that would have been a conscious spot in the past.
- 11:24[SPEAKER_00]: You lose Jews Tungis this some of that fullback stuff
- 11:27[SPEAKER_00]: and can catch.
- 11:29[SPEAKER_00]: So, you know, the Bosa injury is a massive deal to lose that guy.
- 11:35[SPEAKER_00]: I said, if Mike Evans can't play, I think that's the biggest injury you will have suffered at this point.
- 11:39[SPEAKER_00]: He did play.
- 11:40[SPEAKER_00]: I think this juice injury is majorly significant and hopefully spectrum.
- 11:43[SPEAKER_00]: Because it's just nobody, you know, the Niners have these guys who are stars and are just irreplaceable play.
- 11:49[SPEAKER_00]: They're just not another guy like him.
- 11:50[SPEAKER_00]: In the league, let alone on the team.
- 11:54[SPEAKER_00]: then he did throw a check down to Christian that was complete and then he threw the screen to kiddle on the touchdown.
- 12:00[SPEAKER_00]: So that was crunch time from the third quarter on and through one in completion, that's excellent.
- 12:05[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I don't need to go look at the box score.
- 12:08[SPEAKER_00]: I watched it and because I saw the context,
- 12:12[SPEAKER_00]: of guys around his feet, a little uncomfortable in the pocket.
- 12:15[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, game goes on, got to adjust, make more plays.
- 12:19[SPEAKER_00]: He did, like that to me, that to me is what made that game.
- 12:22[SPEAKER_00]: Especially, he's got 11 touchdowns now, same with the cut.
- 12:24[SPEAKER_00]: The numbers, you know, he keeps going to this pace.
- 12:26[SPEAKER_00]: He's going to have some upgames, some downgames.
- 12:28[SPEAKER_00]: But to me, like it's not going to matter how do you look, you didn't score touchdown last two games against Seattle.
- 12:34[SPEAKER_00]: How do you look at his Seattle?
- 12:36[SPEAKER_00]: You need to get the Raiders in here in a couple of weeks.
- 12:37[SPEAKER_00]: They're playing good on defense.
- 12:39[SPEAKER_00]: you're going to get the Vikings.
- 12:41[SPEAKER_00]: They are kicking ass on defense.
- 12:43[SPEAKER_00]: They're not undefeated because it's Bryan Flores.
- 12:48[SPEAKER_00]: They've got the perfect thing going there with Flores, because no one's hired him as a head coach.
- 12:53[SPEAKER_00]: Same with Spagnolo and Kansas City.
- 12:55[SPEAKER_00]: So these are,
- 12:57[SPEAKER_00]: You know, the opportunities are here.
- 12:59[SPEAKER_00]: The opportunities are ahead for Brock Perti.
- 13:01[SPEAKER_00]: His numbers are more than good enough at this point.
- 13:04[SPEAKER_00]: It's not about that.
- 13:05[SPEAKER_00]: Reminder, this shows brought to you by Volvo Cars.
- 13:08[SPEAKER_00]: Marin Matt Gordon and his team.
- 13:09[SPEAKER_00]: They are excellent.
- 13:11[SPEAKER_00]: We have a new Volvo, which we love.
- 13:13[SPEAKER_00]: A plug-in hybrid XC98.
- 13:15[SPEAKER_00]: It's a gorgeous car.
- 13:16[SPEAKER_00]: It's so comfortable, fun to drive.
- 13:18[SPEAKER_00]: If you're considering a Volvo,
- 13:20[SPEAKER_00]: You got to go to Volvo Cars Marine, new or used, great prices.
- 13:25[SPEAKER_00]: So easy to talk to, work with, no pressure, great selection, answer all your questions, so go check them out.
- 13:32[SPEAKER_00]: Thanks for the sponsorship of Volvo Cars Marine.
- 13:35[SPEAKER_00]: EPA is not going to be the thing that's going to convince the world.
- 13:38[SPEAKER_00]: It's going to be national TV big moments.
- 13:40[SPEAKER_00]: This is another one.
- 13:41[SPEAKER_00]: This is the NFL.
- 13:42[SPEAKER_00]: This is coming this week.
- 13:44[SPEAKER_00]: And a more people got the radar game on TV last week than this week.
- 13:47[SPEAKER_00]: The Seattle game is America's Game of the Week.
- 13:51[SPEAKER_00]: And they move the bears up.
- 13:52[SPEAKER_00]: So now Fox is going to get the bear game in the morning window, and the nine or see how a game they have to noon window.
- 13:57[SPEAKER_00]: So everyone's going to see it.
- 14:01[SPEAKER_00]: Everyone's going to see it.
- 14:02[SPEAKER_00]: And it's just, it's the biggest opportunity.
- 14:05[SPEAKER_00]: You know, so as I said, I watched all 30 of his throws on Monday morning.
- 14:09[SPEAKER_00]: I think one thing, and it goes back to the juice injury that stands out, it really stands out.
- 14:14[SPEAKER_00]: And this is where I think, you know, the way they, they were really determined to run the football against Denver.
- 14:19[SPEAKER_00]: Kyle's a big part of that.
- 14:21[SPEAKER_00]: He's a big part of the past game.
- 14:23[SPEAKER_00]: He's so good in the scrambled drill situation.
- 14:26[SPEAKER_00]: The 49ers offensively right now have, they're like a basketball team, a little bit, not in style, but in the fact that it's like a basketball team who has five guys on the floor, who can really defend, but only four of them can score.
- 14:41[SPEAKER_00]: And, and that's what it feels like right now, offensively Jacob Cowling 32 Snaps, Jordan Walken's 38 Snaps, Brandon Cook's 12 Snaps, Brandon Will is 17 Snaps, those four guys can buy them for two targets and zero catches.
- 14:57[SPEAKER_00]: Now, Jordan Walken's made two catches last week, and I think Brandon Cook's probably will get more of an opportunity to shoot it.
- 15:03[SPEAKER_00]: You know, he got past, he got an interfered with on the one target.
- 15:07[SPEAKER_00]: I would think his snap count's going to go up this week in Seattle.
- 15:12[SPEAKER_00]: But now you got, you know, they're abnormal because their receivers are not their best receivers necessarily because you have Kiddled and CMC, but that is one hand behind your back.
- 15:23[SPEAKER_00]: Cowling 32 snaps one target and him and Brock, we're not on the same page on that target.
- 15:30[SPEAKER_00]: Brock thought he was going to go towards the sideline and counting kind of turned and sat down.
- 15:34[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know who was right or wrong, but walk in 38 snaps and no targets, cooks 12 snaps, expected, one target, and willous, I mean, never gets a target.
- 15:43[SPEAKER_00]: So, you know, didn't expect anything more, but it's
- 15:51[SPEAKER_00]: It's challenging, that's the challenge.
- 15:53[SPEAKER_00]: Now, Mike Evans better than advertised.
- 15:57[SPEAKER_00]: And he was advertised as a Hall of Famer.
- 15:59[SPEAKER_00]: Debo Samil was on our post game show on the Niners Radio Network after the game.
- 16:05[SPEAKER_00]: And I asked him, I know you knew Mike Evans was good, but what have you learned about him being with him every day?
- 16:11[SPEAKER_00]: And if you missed the interview, I posted on Friday with Fred Warner, he had an amazing answer about it, very thoughtful answer about it.
- 16:16[SPEAKER_00]: So go watch that.
- 16:17[SPEAKER_00]: But he said the same thing Fred said, which is mindset, like I think because Mike is long and runs down the sideline on kind of these go balls all the highlights you saw them in Tampa jump balls you kind of think of them like
- 16:29[SPEAKER_00]: a football player.
- 16:31[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, a basketball player, but he's a football player.
- 16:35[SPEAKER_00]: That's a tough dude.
- 16:36[SPEAKER_00]: He had that, you know, you're like, oh, Mike Evans history, he's going to get banged up how many games he's going to miss.
- 16:40[SPEAKER_00]: He had the hip.
- 16:40[SPEAKER_00]: He was questionably played.
- 16:42[SPEAKER_00]: He had the ribs.
- 16:43[SPEAKER_00]: He was questionably came back and played and was really good.
- 16:45[SPEAKER_00]: And when he had to slide down to make that first catch, I thought, oh, man, I don't know if he's got this.
- 16:49[SPEAKER_00]: He's going to be able to make it through this game today.
- 16:52[SPEAKER_00]: And he did.
- 16:54[SPEAKER_00]: And he was really good, you know, I think you go back and look at like Mike Evans and college how thick he was, he just plays like a, he just plays physical, he plays so physical and he's, I met a buddy on the field before the game and he's like, look how big my Kevin says.
- 17:09[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I love when people, when you see guy with any of you, if you ever get down to the field before a game, if you ever ever able to get, even just not to the field to like the first row and watch warmups.
- 17:18[SPEAKER_00]: It's always the thing, I remember,
- 17:20[SPEAKER_00]: C.N.
- 17:20[SPEAKER_00]: Carson Palmer in person on the field before right-of-game, Peyton Manell, like these humongous, and the other underrated thing, the thing I always say to people is like, you think on television, the offensive line, and they're just big fat guys, but when you see them like without their pads warming up, you think, oh my god, these guys are really athletic.
- 17:36[SPEAKER_00]: Go watch.
- 17:37[SPEAKER_00]: I posted it on the internet.
- 17:42[SPEAKER_00]: Axe, I barely
- 17:44[SPEAKER_00]: post there anymore.
- 17:45[SPEAKER_00]: But on George Kiddles' long touchdown run, 56-yard touchdown catch and run, the screen.
- 17:51[SPEAKER_00]: Go look at Connor Colby.
- 17:53[SPEAKER_00]: Connor Colby is a smooth runner, a fluid strider.
- 17:59[SPEAKER_00]: You wouldn't put him on your four by 100 team, but he can move, and his 10-yard split at once, heaven eight, is like fine for an interior alignment.
- 18:08[SPEAKER_00]: Ideally, you probably want your pulling guards a little fat, but he's,
- 18:12[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it was it was really impressive So you know like I said there were a couple of he and he's the thing brook I had a few times early that shoulder hit where he I thought he had George It was a little out of sorts on that play when he got hit on the shoulder in the ball and fluttering.
- 18:26[SPEAKER_00]: I thought he had George over the middle.
- 18:27[SPEAKER_00]: He didn't quite trigger it
- 18:32[SPEAKER_00]: and got moved off to spot but again it's you know who knows what the situation really was and you know maybe Brock will explain that this week but Nick Wagner, our friend Nick Wagner wrote a great piece in ESPN.com and the last week I think about George Kiddlest Rehab and
- 18:52[SPEAKER_00]: just the monotonous work and how George Sting was.
- 18:54[SPEAKER_00]: I don't want to come back fast.
- 18:55[SPEAKER_00]: I want to come back fast and as good as I ever was.
- 18:58[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that's what's incredible when you look at the that stat of the oldest average age of touchdown scores is these guys look as good as they ever did.
- 19:07[SPEAKER_00]: What was the final
- 19:09[SPEAKER_00]: When I checked before the game, Christian McCaffrey was averaging 16 touches a game which put him on pace for 272, which, you know, last year at 413, so it's basically nine games less.
- 19:23[SPEAKER_00]: of touches at this pace or in other words, he could play nine extra games at that pace and get the last year's touch number of 413 Christian at 15 carries and three catches.
- 19:35[SPEAKER_00]: So a little above that pace, 18 touches yesterday.
- 19:37[SPEAKER_00]: But the point is that numbers way down.
- 19:39[SPEAKER_00]: You don't feel like you miss it.
- 19:40[SPEAKER_00]: I thought Tim Ryan on radio made a point.
- 19:42[SPEAKER_00]: He's like, you know, I just sometimes it came on black is almost too explosive.
- 19:46[SPEAKER_00]: It hits that whole too hard.
- 19:48[SPEAKER_00]: And he gets there too early.
- 19:50[SPEAKER_00]: So maybe that'll be something that he learns.
- 19:51[SPEAKER_00]: But man, they trust him.
- 19:52[SPEAKER_00]: Like it is no question about that they trust K-lon black.
- 19:57[SPEAKER_00]: And, you know, that's now four games a day that tells us that they feel good about it.
- 20:02[SPEAKER_00]: I thought defensively, you know, you look up and they are picking up chunk plays.
- 20:10[SPEAKER_00]: It felt like because they were able to get it down to the running backs, RJ Harvey, the long was 18.
- 20:14[SPEAKER_00]: They helped the Denver Broncos to 14 points.
- 20:16[SPEAKER_00]: They helped them to 14 points.
- 20:19[SPEAKER_00]: by any measure that's really good uh... and i'm not you know i don't think i think they'll be looking for quarterback at some point whatever most teams end up looking for a quarterback uh... you know i i like i think about a fc west quarterbacks i like like bonix is not as good as their car was
- 20:37[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think it's close.
- 20:38[SPEAKER_00]: I don't quite understand a couple of those throwaways when like receivers in the area, everyone's pointing.
- 20:43[SPEAKER_00]: It's like, man, you spiked at six yards away, you didn't even try to throw it at the guy.
- 20:48[SPEAKER_00]: I think, mainly to do something about that, about that play, but, um,
- 20:56[SPEAKER_00]: uh... you know the night is one in the margins in terms of like making the special teams play that sort of thing but i just think like here are some defensive numbers let me pull up as i've told you i i create uh... thanks to the NFL play by play data which is uh... available i can create some uh... some custom stats for myself all right here's explosives defensive explosive uh... gets to the top three defenses
- 21:21[SPEAKER_00]: In preventing 20 plus yard pass plays are by the percentage of plays they've been on the field.
- 21:27[SPEAKER_00]: The Rams are number one.
- 21:28[SPEAKER_00]: They've only given up 3.7% of their defensive snaps, a pass play of 20 yards or more.
- 21:33[SPEAKER_00]: Seattle's number two, same number 3.7, so I guess tied for first.
- 21:37[SPEAKER_00]: And then the 49ers are third at 4%.
- 21:41[SPEAKER_00]: Preventing 10-yard runs, 9-ers number one on defense, a 2.8 percent.
- 21:46[SPEAKER_00]: The old Ben but don't break.
- 21:48[SPEAKER_00]: The 49ers have not allowed a run of 20 yards or more.
- 21:54[SPEAKER_00]: There's a handful, six teams that have not allowed a run of 20 yards or more.
- 21:59[SPEAKER_00]: I saw I was watching, there's a big YouTuber, Michael McKelvie, who does like really cool deep dive.
- 22:07[SPEAKER_00]: He just did a few days ago.
- 22:09[SPEAKER_00]: I watched his video on.
- 22:10[SPEAKER_00]: on sort of the dash motion, the 49ers dash motion.
- 22:14[SPEAKER_00]: It's not just about that, but anyway, go watch it's great.
- 22:17[SPEAKER_00]: And I think he coined it, maybe somebody else coined it, a gump runs, runs that are 20 yards or more.
- 22:23[SPEAKER_00]: So I've got that in my database now.
- 22:25[SPEAKER_00]: I added that over the weekend, gump runs, 90s have not allowed a single gump run.
- 22:30[SPEAKER_00]: Let's talk about offense, explosive plays on offense.
- 22:32[SPEAKER_00]: This is this red zone third downs.
- 22:35[SPEAKER_00]: And the diners, they weren't as good at it this week, but entering play.
- 22:40[SPEAKER_00]: You know, and we got to talk about the NFC, Philly, over 12 on 3rd down, they're really hurt, like really banged up, say quannout, Devante Smith out Dallas, got it hurt, Quinnia on Mitchell hurt, 172 yards of offense, lowest in 12 years, 68 net passing yards, led by 10, still lost to the Rams, Pooca came back, Rams now play the bills on Monday night football, host the bills on Monday night football.
- 23:04[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I
- 23:05[SPEAKER_00]: I've said it many times now.
- 23:07[SPEAKER_00]: I know they won the championship.
- 23:08[SPEAKER_00]: They won the Super Bowl.
- 23:09[SPEAKER_00]: What's how he rose from a Jeffrey Loury going to do in Philly?
- 23:11[SPEAKER_00]: They've got a head coach who's supposed to be the offensive coach.
- 23:14[SPEAKER_00]: Their offense is always had a sink.
- 23:16[SPEAKER_00]: He's been the offensive coordinator twice.
- 23:17[SPEAKER_00]: They've taken play called duties from in twice.
- 23:19[SPEAKER_00]: It's just, and I know they got a lot of injuries.
- 23:21[SPEAKER_00]: And it's hard to overcome.
- 23:22[SPEAKER_00]: I think Lane Johnson didn't play in the game because I think it was listed as like a personal personal leave, but I mean, just totally, I can't run the ball.
- 23:31[SPEAKER_00]: They totally out of sync.
- 23:33[SPEAKER_00]: And how many times you watch, I'm watching that game go on.
- 23:36[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's better for the riders if the Eagles win this game.
- 23:38[SPEAKER_00]: It is better for the riders if the Rams lose and The Rams don't look great, but
- 23:45[SPEAKER_00]: They're gonna come back in this game and sure enough they did Kansas saving the Raiders.
- 23:48[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, this Raider game looks Max Crosby dominated Jalen more They the chiefs benched For some personal issue between him and Andy Reed.
- 23:59[SPEAKER_00]: They're young guard Kingsley, Sua, Mathia, Mathia Well, I know some nine of people, you know, there were people who wanted the knives to draft him.
- 24:06[SPEAKER_00]: There's a report that the chiefs are interested in Tyreke Hill
- 24:11[SPEAKER_00]: He needs a home, cousins through the ball, 52 times, ashen genty apparently, not 100% but still effective.
- 24:18[SPEAKER_00]: And then you get the undefeated Vikings who's squeaked by Miami.
- 24:21[SPEAKER_00]: So, Kaleo Mac, could you acquire him?
- 24:25[SPEAKER_00]: That becomes the rumor today, because the charges are oh and four, at least surprising strip sack.
- 24:30[SPEAKER_00]: I did watch the end of that game, least surprising strip sack ever, Seattle strip sack and Herbert, they are all out of sorts.
- 24:37[SPEAKER_00]: What would it cost for Kaleo Mac?
- 24:39[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I don't, I'm texting around maybe a third.
- 24:43[SPEAKER_00]: You wouldn't want it to cost a second.
- 24:45[SPEAKER_00]: I'm sure they would ask for that, especially this early.
- 24:48[SPEAKER_00]: You know, they traded a second and a six for him four years ago.
- 24:52[SPEAKER_00]: Now they did have to take on his contract at the time.
- 24:55[SPEAKER_00]: It feels like they probably shouldn't get their second round pick four years back, four years later back.
- 25:00[SPEAKER_00]: But again, the price is high on these guys.
- 25:02[SPEAKER_00]: They're just not allowed out of them out there.
- 25:05[SPEAKER_00]: But I, you know, we know that I was like,
- 25:09[SPEAKER_00]: make a phone call on that.
- 25:10[SPEAKER_00]: You'd love to get them early so that he is in in prime position before that rate or game.
- 25:17[SPEAKER_00]: Somebody made a comment to me because I said, I appreciate the nighters offered more than the bears and the raiders traded into Chicago and then somebody made a comment on the video that said, Khalil Mack himself said that.
- 25:26[SPEAKER_00]: So,
- 25:27[SPEAKER_00]: Again, pardon me once that game to go into Sunday night football and pardon me, things that should be played in sunlight, but we'll see.
- 25:36[SPEAKER_00]: All right, that's it for this show.
- 25:40[SPEAKER_00]: Plenty more coming this week.
- 25:42[SPEAKER_00]: Big road trip.
- 25:43[SPEAKER_00]: We'll leave on Saturday for Seattle.
- 25:45[SPEAKER_00]: Can't wait.
