Election Season Comes for the Epstein Files (10/14/26) · The Epstein Chronicles

Speaker 1: What's up, everyone, and welcome to another episode of the
0:03
Speaker 1: Epstein Chronicles. Hey, it's funny how things change when there's
0:08
Speaker 1: votes on the line. For years, Jeffrey Epstein was treated
0:11
Speaker 1: like radioactive material. Politicians didn't want to touch it. Major
0:15
Speaker 1: institutions wanted the questions to go away. People who pushed
0:20
Speaker 1: too hard were dismissed as obsessives, conspiracy theorists, or people
0:25
Speaker 1: who simply refused to move on. Now? Now? Now? Epstein's everywhere.
0:31
Speaker 1: He's in campaign ads, he's in speeches, he's in fundraising emails,
0:35
Speaker 1: he's being thrown across the political battlefield like a grenade,
0:38
Speaker 1: with everybody suddenly eager to explain how deeply concerned they
0:42
Speaker 1: are about transparency, accountability, corruption, and the people who helped
0:46
Speaker 1: Jeffrey Epstein operate for all those years. In the words
0:50
Speaker 1: of John McClane, Welcome to the party, pal. Some of
0:53
Speaker 1: us have been sitting at this table for a very
0:55
Speaker 1: long time, and everybody at that table... knows that there's
0:58
Speaker 1: a massive difference between caring about what happened and realizing
1:01
Speaker 1: that what happened might win you an election. There's a
1:05
Speaker 1: difference between demanding accountability when it costs you something and
1:08
Speaker 1: demanding accountability when your campaign consultants tell you it polls well.
1:14
Speaker 1: There's a difference between following the evidence wherever it goes
1:17
Speaker 1: and following it only until it reaches somebody wearing your
1:20
Speaker 1: team's jersey because everybody can talk tough before election day.
1:25
Speaker 1: Everybody can promise transparency before they have the power to
1:28
Speaker 1: provide it. Everybody can pound the table about corruption when
1:32
Speaker 1: the people being accused are political opponents. The real questions, well,
1:37
Speaker 1: the real questions come later. What happens when the cameras
1:41
Speaker 1: are gone? What happens when the campaign ads stop running?
1:44
Speaker 1: What happens when the person whose record needs to be
1:47
Speaker 1: examined is a donor, an ally, a former colleague, a
1:50
Speaker 1: party leader, or somebody whose name is inconvenient? That's when
1:55
Speaker 1: we're going to find out who actually believed what they're saying.
1:59
Speaker 1: Jeffrey Epstein didn't survive as long as he did because
2:02
Speaker 1: one political party failed. He survived because systems failed. People failed.
2:07
Speaker 1: Institutions failed. We all failed. And powerful interests repeatedly discovered
2:13
Speaker 1: that looking the other way was easier than asking the
2:16
Speaker 1: next question. That history cannot be undone. But what happens
2:20
Speaker 1: next can still be written. And for all the politicians
2:24
Speaker 1: suddenly discovering Epstein's story during election season, they should understand
2:28
Speaker 1: something before they start making promises they have no intentions
2:31
Speaker 1: of keeping. People are paying attention now. We're keeping track
2:35
Speaker 1: of what you say. And when the election's over, we're
2:38
Speaker 1: going to find out who is actually demanding accountability and
2:41
Speaker 1: who is simply borrowing Jeffrey Epstein for a campaign commercial.
2:46
Speaker 1: Jeffrey Epstein spent decades moving through a world... populated by politicians, billionaires, bankers, academics, lawyers, royalty, celebrities,
2:55
Speaker 1: and people whose influence opened doors that would have remained
2:58
Speaker 1: closed to almost anyone else. For years, the political establishment
3:02
Speaker 1: treated the Epstein story as something that could be compartmentalized, minimized, dismissed,
3:07
Speaker 1: or safely dumped into somebody else's partisan garbage can. Well,
3:11
Speaker 1: that luxury is disappearing because the release of additional Epstein
3:15
Speaker 1: records has dragged the subject out of the margins of
3:18
Speaker 1: and directly into the 2026 election, and Epstein has now
3:21
Speaker 1: become campaign material, with his name appearing in races across
3:25
Speaker 1: the country, as candidates attempt to portray their opponents as members, protectors, beneficiaries,
3:31
Speaker 1: or defenders of what has increasingly been described as an
3:35
Speaker 1: Epstein class. The transformation has been dramatic enough that a
3:39
Speaker 1: New York Times analyst identified Epstein-related advertising in at least
3:43
Speaker 1: 35 congressional races by the end of August. while CNN
3:48
Speaker 1: later reported more than 160 unique Epstein-related advertisements backed by
3:53
Speaker 1: more than $ 35 million in airtime. That tells us something
3:57
Speaker 1: important about where the issue now sits in American politics,
4:01
Speaker 1: but it tells us almost nothing about whether the people
4:05
Speaker 1: invoking Epstein actually intend to do anything about the institutional
4:09
Speaker 1: failures surrounding him. Yo, there's a vast difference between saying
4:14
Speaker 1: Jeffrey Epstein's name in a 30-second campaign commercial and being
4:18
Speaker 1: willing to confront the people, agencies, financial institutions, prosecutors, lawyers, fixers,
4:24
Speaker 1: and political interests that allowed his operation to survive for years.
4:28
Speaker 1: Those of us who had followed the case, long before
4:31
Speaker 1: Epstein became useful, campaign ammunition, have every reason to be
4:35
Speaker 1: suspicious of politicians suddenly discovering an appetite for accountability. We
4:41
Speaker 1: remember when demanding answers about Epstein was treated as obsessive, inconvenient, unserious,
4:46
Speaker 1: or politically radioactive. And now that Epstein has become electorally useful,
4:51
Speaker 1: everybody wants a microphone. Now look, that doesn't mean that
4:54
Speaker 1: the political attention should be rejected because increased scrutiny can
4:58
Speaker 1: produce legitimate results when it's backed by subpoenas, hearings, investigations,
5:02
Speaker 1: document releases, and meaningful legislation. The problem begins when politicians
5:08
Speaker 1: confuse accusation with accountability and assume that simply attaching Epstein's
5:12
Speaker 1: name to an opponent satisfies the public demand for answers.
5:16
Speaker 1: we've already seen why that approach is dangerous. Because some
5:19
Speaker 1: campaign claims have stretched procedural votes, political donations, or distant
5:24
Speaker 1: associations into much broader allegations than the underlying facts supported.
5:30
Speaker 1: Independent fact-checkers have documented several instances during this election cycle
5:34
Speaker 1: in which candidates or outside groups distorted opponents' records on
5:38
Speaker 1: Epstein-related disclosure votes or attempted to manufacture stronger Epstein connections
5:44
Speaker 1: than the evidence established. That kind of behavior does not
5:48
Speaker 1: advance the search for truth. It cheapens it. Epstein's actual
5:52
Speaker 1: story is already filled with extraordinary failures of institutions and individuals,
5:57
Speaker 1: so there's no need to manufacture additional ones for political convenience.
6:02
Speaker 1: Every exaggerated allegation also gives legitimate targets of scrutiny an
6:07
Speaker 1: opportunity to dismiss the entire subject as campaign propaganda. Now
6:12
Speaker 1: that would be disastrous, because the real record deserves far
6:15
Speaker 1: more serious examination than any election advertisement can provide. The
6:20
Speaker 1: Epstein issue should never become another political jersey where evidence
6:24
Speaker 1: is embraced when it damages the opposition and ignored when
6:28
Speaker 1: it reaches somebody wearing the same colors. If accountability changes
6:32
Speaker 1: depending on whose name appears in the documents, then it
6:35
Speaker 1: was never accountability in the first place. And listen, I've
6:38
Speaker 1: told you guys for a long time that the temptation
6:40
Speaker 1: to turn Epstein into a purely partisan story has always
6:44
Speaker 1: been one of the greatest obstacles to understanding what actually happened.
6:48
Speaker 1: His social and financial universe crossed political boundaries, ideological boundaries,
6:53
Speaker 1: national boundaries, professional boundaries, and social boundaries with remarkable ease.
6:59
Speaker 1: Republicans appear in his orbit. Democrats appear in his orbit.
7:03
Speaker 1: Powerful businessmen appear in his orbit. Foreign officials appeared in
7:07
Speaker 1: his orbit. Academics appeared in his orbit. And members of
7:11
Speaker 1: elite institutions repeatedly welcomed his money, influence, introductions, or access.
7:18
Speaker 1: That doesn't mean that every person who encountered Epstein committed
7:21
Speaker 1: a crime, participated in the abuse, or even understood what
7:24
Speaker 1: was happening around him. What it does mean is that
7:28
Speaker 1: anyone attempting to package the Epstein scandal as evidence that
7:32
Speaker 1: only one political faction was corrupt... is selling something rather
7:35
Speaker 1: than investigating something. Epstein survived because multiple systems failed at
7:40
Speaker 1: multiple times, and those systems were staffed by people with
7:44
Speaker 1: different political affiliations, different motivations, and different degrees of knowledge.
7:50
Speaker 1: Prosecutorial discretion failed. Institutional due diligence failed. Financial controls failed.
7:56
Speaker 1: Social gatekeepers failed. Powerful people continued associating with him, after
8:02
Speaker 1: his criminal conduct became publicly known. And the consequences of
8:06
Speaker 1: those failures accumulated over time. The appropriate response is to
8:11
Speaker 1: follow the record wherever it leads and demand the same
8:13
Speaker 1: evidentiary standard regardless of the name attached to it. Anyone
8:18
Speaker 1: who suddenly loses interest when the trail crosses partisan lines
8:21
Speaker 1: has identified his allegiance, and it's not to the truth.
8:26
Speaker 1: At the same time, recognizing decades of bipartisan and institutional
8:30
Speaker 1: failure cannot become an excuse for refusing to hold the
8:33
Speaker 1: people currently exercising power responsible for what they do with
8:37
Speaker 1: the information now available to them. History explains how we
8:41
Speaker 1: arrived here, but history cannot issue subpoenas, compel testimony, unseal records,
8:47
Speaker 1: enforce congressional demands, prosecute crimes with applicable limitation periods, or
8:53
Speaker 1: order agencies to obey disclosure laws today. those responsibilities belong
8:58
Speaker 1: to people holding office right now. Congress has already demonstrated
9:03
Speaker 1: that overwhelming bipartisan action is possible when political pressure becomes
9:07
Speaker 1: strong enough, including passage of legislation requiring the Justice Department
9:12
Speaker 1: to release Epstein-related investigative records and explain categories of material
9:16
Speaker 1: withheld or redacted. The Justice Department subsequently submitted a report
9:21
Speaker 1: describing records released and withheld. The legal basis for redaction's
9:26
Speaker 1: and government officials and politically exposed persons referenced in the
9:30
Speaker 1: reviewed material. The existence of those mechanisms proves that elected
9:34
Speaker 1: officials are not powerless observers standing outside the Epstein story.
9:39
Speaker 1: They have oversight authority, appropriations authority, subpoena power, legislative authority,
9:44
Speaker 1: confirmation authority, and the ability to demand explanations from executive agencies. Consequently,
9:51
Speaker 1: a politician who campaigns on Epstein transparency is making a
9:55
Speaker 1: promise that can eventually be measured against actual conduct. Did
10:00
Speaker 1: that politician vote for disclosure when the vote became difficult?
10:03
Speaker 1: Support compulsory process when witnesses resisted? Demand enforcement when agencies delayed?
10:09
Speaker 1: Protect survivors from becoming campaign props? And continue asking questions
10:14
Speaker 1: after election day? Those are considerably harder tests than producing
10:19
Speaker 1: an advertisement with sinister music and Jeffrey Epstein's photograph in
10:23
Speaker 1: the background. Now listen, the survivors should be the measuring
10:28
Speaker 1: stick against which all of this political theater is judged,
10:31
Speaker 1: because they lived with the consequences while the institution spent
10:35
Speaker 1: years avoiding them. Many of the women who accused Epstein
10:38
Speaker 1: and people around him were speaking long before politicians discovered
10:42
Speaker 1: that his name could move voters. They face skepticism, intimidation,
10:47
Speaker 1: expense of legal battles, public humiliation, and institutions with vastly
10:52
Speaker 1: greater resources than anything available to them. They watched Epstein
10:56
Speaker 1: receive extraordinary treatment in Florida, watched him return to wealthy
11:00
Speaker 1: social circles after becoming a registered sex offender, and watched
11:04
Speaker 1: influential people continue dealing with him, despite information that should
11:08
Speaker 1: have made him radioactive. The political class cannot now arrive
11:12
Speaker 1: near the end of the story, wrap itself in the
11:14
Speaker 1: language of survivor advocacy, and behave as though it led
11:17
Speaker 1: the fight from the beginning. Some individuals certainly did push
11:21
Speaker 1: for answers earlier, and those records should be recognized accurately.
11:25
Speaker 1: But the larger institutional record was nowhere near as courageous
11:28
Speaker 1: as today's campaign rhetoric would suggest. Yo, survivors are not
11:33
Speaker 1: props to be placed behind candidates at press conferences and
11:36
Speaker 1: forgotten once the camera disappears. Their experiences should drive questions
11:42
Speaker 1: about how trafficking investigations are handled, how non-prosecution agreements are negotiated,
11:47
Speaker 1: how financial institutions monitor suspicious clients, how prosecutors communicate with victims,
11:53
Speaker 1: and how powerful defendants receive treatment unavailable to ordinary citizens.
11:59
Speaker 1: Real reform would examine the architecture that protected Epstein instead
12:03
Speaker 1: of pretending the problem began and ended with Epstein himself.
12:07
Speaker 1: Anything less risked turning the suffering of real people into
12:10
Speaker 1: one more commodity traded during election season. Look, there's also
12:15
Speaker 1: a serious fundamental difference between transparency and indiscriminate accusation. And
12:20
Speaker 1: anybody serious about the Epstein case should understand it. Releasing
12:24
Speaker 1: documents is essential because secrecy helped produce decades of unanswered questions.
12:29
Speaker 1: But appearing in a contact book, flight log, calendar, photograph,
12:32
Speaker 1: email chain, deposition, investigative file, or witness statement does not
12:37
Speaker 1: automatically establish criminal conduct. The evidence must be examined in context,
12:42
Speaker 1: corroborated where possible, compared against contemporaneous records, and separated into
12:48
Speaker 1: what's proven, what's alleged, and what's disputed, and what remains unknown.
12:53
Speaker 1: That standard sometimes frustrates people who want instant villains, but
12:57
Speaker 1: abandoning it would make meaningful accountability nearly impossible. And politicians
13:02
Speaker 1: are particularly susceptible to exploiting ambiguity because ambiguity leaves room
13:08
Speaker 1: for devastating campaign language without requiring the burden of proving
13:11
Speaker 1: the underlying insinuation, and the public should reject that game,
13:15
Speaker 1: while simultaneously demanding maximum lawful disclosure from the government. We
13:20
Speaker 1: should want more documents and fewer political distortions of those documents.
13:24
Speaker 1: We should want witnesses questioned under oath, contradictions examined against
13:28
Speaker 1: the record, financial trails reconstructed, prosecutorial decisions explained, and unexplained
13:34
Speaker 1: government conduct subjected to genuine oversight. We should also insist
13:39
Speaker 1: that accusations remain tethered to evidence because credibility is one
13:43
Speaker 1: of the most valuable weapons available to anyone attempting to
13:47
Speaker 1: expose institutional wrongdoing. The Epstein story contains enough documented misconduct,
13:53
Speaker 1: extraordinary favoritism, unanswered questions, financial irregularities, and institutional failure that
13:59
Speaker 1: sensationalism is not merely unnecessary. That shit actively gets in
14:03
Speaker 1: the way. And look, we'd be fools if we didn't
14:07
Speaker 1: recognize that election season creates another problem because campaigns operate
14:11
Speaker 1: according to a completely different timetable than investigations. Campaigns require
14:16
Speaker 1: simple narratives, immediate villains, repeated slogans, emotional hooks, and conclusions
14:21
Speaker 1: that fit into advertisements before voters lose interest. Serious investigations
14:27
Speaker 1: require documents, subpoenas, witness interviews, financial records, corroboration, adversarial testing,
14:33
Speaker 1: legal process... and the patience to follow leads that may
14:36
Speaker 1: ultimately go nowhere. Those two systems are naturally in tension,
14:41
Speaker 1: and the Epstein story becomes especially vulnerable when political professionals
14:45
Speaker 1: begin forcing complicated evidence into campaign narratives designed months before
14:50
Speaker 1: all the evidence is known. A candidate may promise complete
14:53
Speaker 1: transparency today because transparency polls well, only to discover after
14:58
Speaker 1: taking office that full transparency could embarrass donors, colleagues, party leaders... agencies, allies,
15:05
Speaker 1: or institutions that candidates depend upon. Just ask Trump. That's
15:10
Speaker 1: where rhetoric collides with reality. The public should therefore stop
15:13
Speaker 1: judging politicians primarily by how aggressively they talk about Epstein
15:18
Speaker 1: and begin judging them by what powers they're willing to
15:21
Speaker 1: use when those powers become inconvenient. Will they support subpoenas
15:25
Speaker 1: when the recipient is politically connected to their own side?
15:28
Speaker 1: Will they demand document production when the records threaten an
15:31
Speaker 1: ally instead of an opponent? Will they defend the same
15:35
Speaker 1: standard of disclosure when the names emerging from the files
15:38
Speaker 1: are politically inconvenient? Those questions will separate people seeking accountability
15:43
Speaker 1: from people renting the Epstein story for the duration of
15:46
Speaker 1: an election. And there's no legitimate reason for voters to
15:50
Speaker 1: surrender their leverage once the ballots are counted because election
15:53
Speaker 1: day should be the beginning of this accountability test rather
15:57
Speaker 1: than the end of it. Every candidate campaigning on Epstein
16:00
Speaker 1: should have his or her statements preserved and cataloged and
16:03
Speaker 1: compared against subsequent votes, hearings, letters, subpoenas, appropriation decisions, confirmation votes,
16:10
Speaker 1: and public statements. If a candidate promises complete disclosure, voters
16:14
Speaker 1: should remember that promise when an agency requests another delay.
16:19
Speaker 1: If a candidate says nobody's above the law, voters should
16:22
Speaker 1: remember those words when an investigation reaches someone politically valuable.
16:27
Speaker 1: If a candidate condemns government secrecy, voters should remember it
16:31
Speaker 1: When classified markings, privacy concerns, executive privilege, deliberative process claims,
16:37
Speaker 1: or law enforcement exemptions suddenly become convenient excuses for unnecessary withholding.
16:43
Speaker 1: Some redactions and protections will always be legally necessary, particularly
16:47
Speaker 1: where survivors, witnesses, grand jury material, or legitimate investigative interests
16:53
Speaker 1: are involved. But those protections cannot become a blanket behind
16:57
Speaker 1: which embarrassing government conduct disappears. The government's August 2026 report
17:02
Speaker 1: under the Epstein File Transparency Act itself demonstrated that Congress
17:06
Speaker 1: can require the Justice Department to identify categories of withheld
17:10
Speaker 1: material and explain the legal justification for keeping the information
17:14
Speaker 1: from the public. That principle should have become standard rather
17:18
Speaker 1: than exceptional. If the government withholds something, the public deserves
17:22
Speaker 1: to know precisely why it was withheld, to the greatest
17:25
Speaker 1: extent the law permits. Transparency should be a process that
17:29
Speaker 1: can be audited. not a slogan officials invoke whenever releasing records,
17:33
Speaker 1: happens to be politically convenient. The politicians asking for our
17:37
Speaker 1: votes should understand that the people paying attention to this
17:40
Speaker 1: case are keeping receipts. And look, I think the most
17:44
Speaker 1: important lesson of the Epstein story is that powerful institutions
17:47
Speaker 1: rarely police themselves aggressively without sustained external pressure. Epstein didn't
17:53
Speaker 1: operate for years because nobody ever saw warning signs. He
17:56
Speaker 1: operated for years because despite an accumulation of warning signs, allegations, investigations, lawsuits,
18:02
Speaker 1: press accounts, victim statements, suspicious financial behavior, and increasingly public
18:08
Speaker 1: evidence of what kind of man he was. Again and again,
18:11
Speaker 1: somebody with authority had opportunity to push harder, ask another question,
18:16
Speaker 1: reject an excuse, scrutinize a transaction, investigate an associate, challenge
18:21
Speaker 1: an agreement, or refuse Epstein access to another elite institution.
18:26
Speaker 1: Too often, the easier path won. That history is precisely
18:30
Speaker 1: why voters should refuse to outsource the current moment to
18:33
Speaker 1: politicians who tell us they have everything under control. Congressional
18:37
Speaker 1: hearings should be watched. Testimony should be compared against documents.
18:42
Speaker 1: Promises should be compared against votes. Justice Department representation should
18:47
Speaker 1: be compared against court filings. And claims of transparency should
18:51
Speaker 1: be compared against what remains hidden. And look, this isn't cynicism.
18:55
Speaker 1: It's the basic civic supervision that becomes necessary when institutions
19:00
Speaker 1: have already demonstrated their capacity for failure. Politicians respond to incentives,
19:05
Speaker 1: and sustained public pressure changes those incentives by making concealment, delay,
19:10
Speaker 1: selective outrage, and hypocrisy politically expensive. The voters, therefore, occupy
19:16
Speaker 1: a much more powerful position in the story than politicians
19:19
Speaker 1: would probably prefer to acknowledge. Candidates can use Epstein to
19:22
Speaker 1: campaign for office, but voters can use their ballots to
19:26
Speaker 1: demand those candidates prove they meant what they said. Look,
19:30
Speaker 1: a few months from now, the advertisements are going to disappear.
19:33
Speaker 1: The rallies are going to end. Campaign consultants will move
19:36
Speaker 1: to their next client. And politicians who spent months talking
19:39
Speaker 1: about Jeffrey Epstein will return to Washington claiming mandates from
19:43
Speaker 1: voters who elected them. And that's when the real examination begins.
19:47
Speaker 1: Nobody should expect the failures surrounding Epstein to be repaired
19:51
Speaker 1: by one election, one hearing, one document release, one criminal investigation,
19:56
Speaker 1: or one piece of legislation. Because the failures accumulated across
20:00
Speaker 1: decades and involved institutions far larger than any individual politician.
20:05
Speaker 1: But voters can demand measurable progress, and they can punish
20:09
Speaker 1: people who substitute theater for action. We can't rewrite the
20:12
Speaker 1: sweetheart deal Epstein received, reverse the opportunities investigators missed, undo
20:17
Speaker 1: the years survivors spent fighting to be believed, or interrogate
20:21
Speaker 1: Jeffrey Epstein about the network surrounding him. We can insist
20:25
Speaker 1: that surviving records are preserved and released lawfully, witnesses are
20:29
Speaker 1: questioned aggressively, contradictions are pursued, financial structures are examined, institutional
20:36
Speaker 1: failures are documented, and anyone who committed prosecutable crimes is
20:40
Speaker 1: treated according to the evidence rather than status. We can
20:44
Speaker 1: refuse to participate in the partisan fraud that says Epstein
20:47
Speaker 1: matters only when his associations damage the other team. We
20:51
Speaker 1: can also refuse to accept another generation of politicians claiming
20:55
Speaker 1: to oppose elite corruption while surrounding themselves with the same
20:59
Speaker 1: culture of wealth, access, secrecy, and protection that allowed people
21:03
Speaker 1: like Epstein to flourish. The objective was never supposed to
21:06
Speaker 1: be electing politicians who became better at saying Jeffrey Epstein's name.
21:10
Speaker 1: The objective is creating a system in which another Jeffrey
21:14
Speaker 1: Epstein cannot accumulate powerful protection for decades while victims scream
21:19
Speaker 1: into the institutional void. If these politicians truly intend to
21:23
Speaker 1: deliver that kind of accountability, Election Day will give them
21:27
Speaker 1: their opportunity. And after that, the voters should demand receipts.
