- 0:01Type felony. Thank you for listening to the
- 0:03slippery slope. So last week there was a big
- 0:08hoo-ha in Launceston, which is, if you're not from Australia,
- 0:13Its in the state of Tasmania, the little island down the
- 0:16bottom of Australia. The small small City suppose is
- 0:21classified as a city and has pretty small in Tasmania and
- 0:28Right now we are in the middle of the World, Pride celebrations
- 0:34think. And then next weekend this
- 0:37coming weekend it'll be the Sydney gay and lesbian Mardi
- 0:42Gras. I think that ends off the
- 0:45celebrations. Okay, of this, the pride, the
- 0:49pride pride celebrations. Anyway.
- 0:53So Launceston has had a had a drag queen.
- 0:58The show at the library and it's billed for children which I
- 1:04think is really what the the issue has been.
- 1:08And so there was a bit of a little bit of a protest.
- 1:12People just standing outside saying hey you know this should
- 1:15this isn't good for children. I'm going to read through this
- 1:17article here. It's from the ABC so it says
- 1:22Christian Lobby. Deputy Premier pushed back over?
- 1:27Now I don't particularly Want to pronounce this name of the drag
- 1:30queen. I'm going to pronounce it pass a
- 1:33Poppins. So yeah.
- 1:36It's built pu double is a, why pass a pop-ins drag Story Time
- 1:41Event at Launceston Library. So, this is that tasmanians,
- 1:47education Ministries resisting calls to cancel a book, reading
- 1:51by a drag queen at a state-run library.
- 1:55Even as the state's, Deputy Premier declared, he wouldn't be
- 1:59taking my children. That's what he said.
- 2:02So the Launceston library is hosting drag storytime next
- 2:05Wednesday, in celebration of Taz, pride, and World Pride
- 2:102023. So the events aimed at to 25
- 2:15year olds is free and has already sold out So you look
- 2:20this event is aimed at to 25 year olds, it's been promoted as
- 2:25a chance for toddlers, to frock up, dress up and throw on a
- 2:30tiara wall. Tasmanian drag performer pass a
- 2:35Poppins takes us on adventures in fraca dial and whittany and
- 2:40Brittany chicken. Dippers at a media conference on
- 2:43Monday. Deputy Premier.
- 2:45Michael Ferguson was asked if he supported the library hosting
- 2:48the event. Says, I think a lot of people
- 2:51would Express concern and it's important that parental Choice,
- 2:55be the determining Factor here, but I wouldn't be taking my
- 2:58children. The conservative liberal said,
- 3:01drag story, time events have been held at libraries across
- 3:04Australia but this is the first time Launceston has hosted one.
- 3:09All libraries across Tasmania a run and funded by the Tasmanian
- 3:13government. In a post on the Australian
- 3:15Christian Lobby. Facebook page, Tasmanian
- 3:18director. Christopher.
- 3:19Brahe I said, drag shows are not what Tasmanian parents expect
- 3:25their government to promote as toddlers.
- 3:27Entertainments a brief perusal of Poppins website reveals the
- 3:34sexualized nature of this. Drag queens.
- 3:37Adult entertainment repertoire which I'll go to agree with the,
- 3:42you know, the main are you sure? I have with all of this stuff
- 3:45right here? Is that these you know, there
- 3:49was always a Entertainment. You know you I don't know what
- 3:53don't even have been to one but you would go I Tsum to watch
- 3:57someone dress up in ridiculous kind of outfits and put on a
- 4:00dance, show miming to music and it just a bit and you know, some
- 4:05kind of Cabaret and there's a bit of fun.
- 4:07I suppose making stupid jokes whatever, whatever.
- 4:12But it was adults adults did this, this is targeted towards
- 4:15children. And you got to ask yourself,
- 4:18what kind of parents think that this is okay to go to anyway.
- 4:25So the I'll go further down. Now, the Launceston Library,
- 4:29would not comment on the debate, but had previously acknowledged
- 4:32on social media that the event may not appeal to everyone drag
- 4:36story. Times are held in libraries
- 4:38around Australia and the world to promote diversity.
- 4:42I've got to ask. Why is it that you need a man
- 4:46dressed? As a, he's not even dressed as a
- 4:49woman but dressed in just absolutely ridiculous costumes.
- 4:54I'm very sexualized costumes pretending to be a woman.
- 4:59Why is that diversity? How is that diverse?
- 5:03Isn't you need people with diverse thinking diverse
- 5:07intelligence diverse, you know, ways of looking at things to be
- 5:11able to help overcome problems and issues.
- 5:15Not someone You what your sexual desires doesn't show diversity?
- 5:23You can one would May argue? It shows depravity anyway, so it
- 5:28says, goes on to say, if you before other ways of expressing
- 5:31diversity to your children, this event will be fun.
- 5:35Friendly and inclusive but it may not be for you Taz Pride,
- 5:39spokesperson Vincent bound said he was unfortunately not
- 5:44surprised by the calls for the events to be cancelled.
- 5:47And so listen and this is this is the main issue, the it's
- 5:55always been. It's always been this warning,
- 5:59people standing, I'm saying, you know, eventually this is going
- 6:01to come for the children for your children and we are seeing
- 6:06more and more that that's exactly what's happening now.
- 6:09It's not just, it's not enough just to have the adults and the
- 6:14very young adults and late, Eight teenagers.
- 6:18They've got to go for the two and five year olds to try.
- 6:20And to try and impression, give an impression on their young
- 6:26minds to get them going to this this area of diversity.
- 6:32Which I think they've got the wrong view of a diversity
- 6:35anyway, so I want to have a look.
- 6:37I don't really want to have a look but I don't normally look
- 6:40at this stuff. This is a anyway, we're going to
- 6:43have a look at the the page of Poppins so Poppins page.
- 6:50Now, show you the page because this is, I think this shows the
- 6:54argument that people are saying it's very sexualized.
- 6:57This is adult entertainment. It's very sexualized.
- 7:03Why is this kind of sexualized? Entertainment being used to
- 7:09entertain or educate children? It is.
- 7:14It's not right? It's wrong.
- 7:16I don't think it should be happening, but just, I don't
- 7:22know. Anyway, he shall show you what
- 7:24I'm talking about, you tell me what you think.
- 7:27So, here it is, the amine, check out the outfit that this this
- 7:31pop-ins is wearing here on the top, its Anyway, so tassie's
- 7:38Premier drag artist. Okay, you'll go to Queen four
- 7:43premium. Drag Poppins is the Tasmanian
- 7:46Queen with two heads and one of them is tucked away.
- 7:52Now, this is what this is. What Poppins has these little
- 7:58headline here, underneath the headline?
- 8:02And this is being billed as Children's Entertainment to
- 8:05educate them in diversity. This is the kind of trope.
- 8:11That so-called Educators want to want to use to educate to
- 8:16entertain two-year-olds to 25 year.
- 8:19Old pop-ins is known for entertaining audiences big and
- 8:24small with her razor-sharp wit H and M, a modified costumes and
- 8:32subpar dance moves. This drag Dynamo has a passion
- 8:36for supporting the lgbtq blah blah blah community and Tazz
- 8:41Creating and hosting events across the state and making her
- 8:45irritable bowel disease. Everyone's business if you're
- 8:49looking for something unique, quirky and fun for your next
- 8:52event, grab this Queen by the and then has the name p.
- 8:57U SS. A, why?
- 8:58Okay, so we'll scroll down and have a look at sure.
- 9:03It'll have some costumes in here.
- 9:07Meager the pics. These are the kinds of costumes
- 9:11that this so-called well. Now, it's a children's
- 9:15entertainer, isn't they? The kinds of costumes that That
- 9:21he/she whatever they want to be called.
- 9:24We look at this, is this really the kind of outfits that we
- 9:28should be? For a two-year-old
- 9:32five-year-old. They're very, I mean, come on,
- 9:39imagine if he rocked up in this kind of outfit, it's a very very
- 9:44sexualized, you know, the nun's outfit I don't know.
- 9:50I just anyway. So that's the kind of thing.
- 9:55It's very sexualized. It's all I'm trying to say.
- 9:59And yet, you know, the, the Launceston library and making
- 10:04excuses, I've got to know what you think.
- 10:07Okay. I you probably know where I
- 10:09stand on this is I think this is wrong completely wrong.
- 10:13This is not the kind of thing that we should be building as
- 10:16entertainment for children. I'd have to question what kind
- 10:21of person you are? If you anyway, if you're an
- 10:23adult, you know, you make your own decisions, but two year olds
- 10:2725 year olds and then their parents taking them to this,
- 10:33kind of entertainment. And then They said, well, this
- 10:37is to help educate children on diversity.
- 10:42My thoughts are that it is actually sexual depravity.
- 10:49It is entertainment. The highly sexualized nature.
- 10:53It doesn't really show diversity.
- 10:58It just shows a man dressed up as a female in highly,
- 11:04sexualized outfits, and then prancing around trying to be
- 11:11funny and it's time people and this is being billed as
- 11:14diversity training for children. I don't think it's right.
- 11:24I think it's quite pathetic. I think Launceston Library
- 11:31should be ashamed of themselves, but they probably wouldn't be
- 11:34because it's it's Pride week pride month, whatever the heck
- 11:37it is. And right now I thought we have
- 11:39pride month in June, don't we now have got Pride whatever
- 11:43we're celebrating the LGB thing. But it's all about the pride
- 11:49pride of man. Anyway, that's just my opinion.
- 11:52Let me know what you think. Is this really good
- 11:54entertainment for children, 2 to 5 years old?
- 11:58Really Because depraved that's just my opinion.
- 12:05Let me know what you think. Thank you for listening to the
- 12:07slippery slope. Because depraved that's just my
- 12:03opinion. Let me know what you think.
- 12:05Thank you for listening to the slippery slope.
