- 0:00Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Three O Take, where we talk
- 0:04all things Major League Baseball.
- 0:06Here's Kyle Corwin and Nate Reyes.
- 0:10It all starts right now. Welcome back to the Three O Take
- 0:16presented by C Kick. This is episode Four O 8.
- 0:19I'll be your host, Kyle Corden. I'm here with my Co host, Nate
- 0:21Reyes. Nate, hey.
- 0:27Oh hell. Oh yeah, let's get it going
- 0:31today. Feeling good.
- 0:33I'm. I'm running high off of Duncan
- 0:37iced coffee. No free ads.
- 0:38But Duncan, if you're listening, please sponsor us.
- 0:42That would be dope. Much appreciated, Duncan.
- 0:45Thank you. You're not a you're not a nice
- 0:47coffee guy though, right? I am an iced coffee guy.
- 0:51But we we found this out like what, a year ago that you had
- 0:55only been to Starbucks in your lifetime maybe what, three
- 0:57times? Correct.
- 0:59Then enter page and we're there three times a week, so I feel
- 1:03like I'm a regular. Old American now Red blooded
- 1:07American. Addicted to the Addicted to the
- 1:10coffee, Yeah. I had hot coffee this morning
- 1:13though. Well, Keurig action.
- 1:16Can't get on board with that. Really, I just can't.
- 1:21So here's here's it was. Nice dude.
- 1:22I started reading a book and I'm like, this morning.
- 1:25I, like, got up. Paige left for work.
- 1:27I'm like, I'm not ready to start my day.
- 1:28Started reading a book. Sip of coffee.
- 1:30I'm like, what's? Happening.
- 1:31You're like, you're who am I? You're like 70 now, dude.
- 1:35I know it's pretty wild. And you get up at like 4:00 AM
- 1:39too, don't you? So.
- 1:40No, no. The sleep in has been real,
- 1:43dude. Soon.
- 1:45That'd be nice. It's hard to get out of bed
- 1:48before before 645. Nowadays it's the cold weather,
- 1:53I think ish. When people ask me, they're
- 1:56like, oh, do you like a coffee? Like, can we can I get, like, if
- 1:59we go over somewhere, they're like, can I get you some coffee?
- 2:00Like, Nah, I'm not really a coffee person.
- 2:02But I'll have the occasional iced coffee and they'll say, oh,
- 2:04like, what's that all about? And I'm like, well, I just don't
- 2:07want to get, I don't want to. What's that?
- 2:11Sugar. Yeah.
- 2:12Oh yeah. The.
- 2:14Biggest sweet. Tooth.
- 2:15No. But I tell them I'm like, well,
- 2:16I don't want to get like addicted.
- 2:18I don't want to get reliant on it because you, you, those
- 2:21people that are like, I can't start my day with unless I have.
- 2:24I'm not that guy. Coffee.
- 2:25I'm like, but here's the thing though, dude, the frequency,
- 2:30like the gaps in between my iced coffee runs now are fewer, like
- 2:35smaller and smaller. So I really need to be careful.
- 2:38Otherwise this is going to be a daily thing and I don't I I
- 2:41don't need that. It is weird that like, caffeine
- 2:44is just not only legal, but like shoved in our face every corner.
- 2:49It is super addictive and our society's just like, no, it's
- 2:53all good. This isn't a drug.
- 2:55I went down a rabbit hole the other day, sort of related.
- 2:58I went down a a rabbit hole the other day and it was a
- 3:01conspiracy video like a TikTok or something on how sugar is
- 3:07manufactured to make us Dumber. And it sounds crazy, but you do.
- 3:12You do a little deep dive. No dude, it doesn't sound crazy
- 3:15to me. I'm fully on board with a lot of
- 3:17stuff lately. Conspiracies are starting to
- 3:20feel a little more real. Hiding in plain sight, sugar is
- 3:24just the the legal drug that they shove in our faces anyway.
- 3:29Little little baseball housekeeping before we get
- 3:32started. I was telling you just before we
- 3:35got on, I started a Facebook group.
- 3:38For those who don't know, but believe it or not, Facebook is
- 3:42far and above our best platform. Not a lot of people know that
- 3:47because people just love to get on there and argue.
- 3:48But I started a Facebook group through the through our, our
- 3:54account, like through our page. And I was thinking, yeah, you
- 3:58know, it'll take, it'll take a minute or two to to get going or
- 4:01whatever. Within like 24 hours, we're
- 4:03almost at like 900 people already.
- 4:06So just a little plug, little plug for for you or for those of
- 4:11you who have a Facebook and are listening.
- 4:13It's basically just a little group I put together looking at
- 4:17it right now. It's called Today in Baseball.
- 4:20It's pinned on our on our page at the top you'll see it just a
- 4:24little group. I wanted to get some baseball
- 4:27people together and you know, chat Baseball people are already
- 4:30dropping in like pictures of their memorabilia collections.
- 4:33The stadium tattoo last year. I love it.
- 4:36I I thought I'd have to get the get the wheels turn a little bit
- 4:39myself, but it's already self-sufficient.
- 4:42So hop on in there if you're on Facebook and get get rolling
- 4:46with that. One last thing, I just wanted to
- 4:51put a note out there, a little preview that I am pumped to do
- 4:57our deep dive into Ricky Henderson's as as part of our
- 5:01Unbreakable Records mini series at the end of this episode.
- 5:06Dude, I'm just a little teaser. I'm.
- 5:09I think I love that. Like it's it's gonna, I think
- 5:14have people like, what is that real?
- 5:19Like how is this really a record?
- 5:21Like how is that number really out there?
- 5:23I've got some people. Forget man, people forget.
- 5:26I forgot some of the stuff I didn't even know.
- 5:29Yeah, I like it. It'll it'll.
- 5:30Put some things into perspective that'll have your head spinning,
- 5:33so stick around for that. We'll we'll get to that at the
- 5:35end of the episode. But leading us off here, the
- 5:41newest #2 in the rotation for your New York Yankees, We
- 5:45alluded to it last episode. We we said that it was close,
- 5:49that he was likely going to end up with one of our two ball
- 5:52clubs and we were exactly right on that I think.
- 5:55Couple hours, Yep. Yeah, he was.
- 5:58He was. It was announced.
- 6:00It was official today, actually. I I don't know why it took a
- 6:03number of number of days, but it was announced today that he is
- 6:06officially with the club. So, Marcus Stroman, you are a
- 6:08New York Yankee. Nate.
- 6:09Thoughts. Emotional fan reaction.
- 6:20I don't love it. I've never been a Strowman guy,
- 6:23personally, It's a lot of me, me, me.
- 6:31I don't know, dude. Just like, I just want winners,
- 6:34You know what I mean? Like, I would.
- 6:35I just want selfless winners. As a Yankees fan, like, that's
- 6:39all I'm hoping for. I don't know.
- 6:43As far as like a baseball monetary move, I think it's not
- 6:51that bad two years, 37 mil. There's a clause for a player
- 6:59option in 2026 if he crosses over the 140 innings pitched in
- 7:042025. So there's like incentive for
- 7:08health and longevity. It's not breaking the bank.
- 7:18I feel a lot better about this if they go finish with another
- 7:22move for the rotation. I would agree to add a little
- 7:25perspective to that vesting option to reach 140 Indians in
- 7:312025. He threw 136 2/3 last season and
- 7:36138 2/3 in 2022, but he. I put in averages 144.
- 7:43He crossed his career. He's reached 140, I believe,
- 7:46four times in his career, so that's certainly within within
- 7:50reach for Shroman. Sit there.
- 7:52He's 32. I totally forgot when I was
- 7:58looking at numbers he I forgot that he took off 2020, the COVID
- 8:04year. Not that it's like that's a ton
- 8:08of bullets being used, but you know, kind of shave 1/2 a year
- 8:13off of this. It's just the health.
- 8:15I mean, I think it's the health that that kind of worries me the
- 8:18most. It's the great first half last
- 8:21year, horrible second-half last year makes me nervous.
- 8:25I don't have him slaughtered at 2:00, but like looking at the
- 8:30rotation, I. He's got to be two.
- 8:36He's. He feels like Garrett Cole and
- 8:39then there's like a group of #3 and four starters.
- 8:42There is no two. Absolutely.
- 8:44But of those three and four starters, Strowman has to be
- 8:48your #2. Rodan has not shown you that.
- 8:52He's getting, yeah. I've Nestor at 2:00, but like, I
- 8:56don't. I don't know, man.
- 8:59Maybe 2021 or 2022 rather was just a fluke.
- 9:02I don't. I don't know about that Clark
- 9:06Schmidt running out at 5:00, so he's not in the mix.
- 9:08So it's like, you know, Stroman's that 3-4.
- 9:11It's weird, dude. The Yankees are weird.
- 9:14They they give like there's like a seniority thing outside of
- 9:19like, superstar signing. Like, you know, you're not
- 9:22fitting into like this high leverage spot.
- 9:26Soto is an exception, right? Like, you're Soto.
- 9:29So we're going to throw you in the middle of the line up, but
- 9:32like, there's just there. They have this weird.
- 9:35That's why they were out on Yamamoto.
- 9:38Yamamoto wanted more money than what Garrett Cole has.
- 9:40And the Yankees are like, we don't see it.
- 9:42Sorry. So like, there's this weird,
- 9:46like, it's not like nostalgia or legacy, but it is kind of like
- 9:53this pecking order that they have.
- 9:56You have to earn your pinstripes.
- 9:58That's a thing. We hear it every year.
- 10:01So if Brett So based on what you're telling me, if Brett
- 10:04Gardner expressed interest in returning as the starting left
- 10:10fielder, could he slot right in given the years that he's he's
- 10:16accumulated as a as a Yankee? No, probably not, but.
- 10:20Tip of the tip of the cap to. That but there is that thing
- 10:24though there is like this we no I they I, they struggle to like
- 10:27let old guys go because they've earned their right to be there.
- 10:32And so like we saw it with CC, we saw it with Brett Gardner,
- 10:35we've seen it for years of like there's leaving guys in their
- 10:38role because they've earned the right to it.
- 10:41And on the other side of the spectrum, you're not here yet.
- 10:44You haven't proven anything yet. So therefore you haven't earned
- 10:47your stripes and you know you're not in that spot.
- 10:51So I would I would guess three or four in the rotation, but I
- 10:56don't really care this there. There needs to be one more
- 10:58addition. I I think every team should at
- 11:01least have 6 bona fide starters. At least that should be the
- 11:08minimum. Who do you think is is within
- 11:12reason right now for a potential additional starter?
- 11:18Like is it safe to say they're out on Snell?
- 11:24Because I'm just trying to think of a scenario where they slot
- 11:27somebody in a head of if they going with with my rotation.
- 11:32I mean you you obviously have him in a different spot, but say
- 11:34he slots in #2. I have a hard time picturing
- 11:38anybody outside of Snell. That they would maybe Jordan
- 11:43Montgomery maybe I would probably put Jordan Montgomery
- 11:46above him. It's just I don't I I don't know
- 11:48if they you know burn that bridge.
- 11:51He seems like he's more desiring to go back to Texas.
- 11:56Wasn't it the Yank? Didn't I see the report recently
- 11:59where it said he would rather stay with Texas over returning
- 12:02to Is that? Was it the Yankees that I saw?
- 12:04OK, yeah, yeah, yeah. So he's got that working against
- 12:07you, but. Yeah.
- 12:08But I mean, if that, if that's the case, then you're looking at
- 12:113 righties, 3 lefties if you if you're going 6.
- 12:15So and then outside of like free agents, I don't, I don't know.
- 12:20I mean there's still the the trade market.
- 12:24It's just about finding somebody you can go get.
- 12:28But I I just, I don't want the, I don't want it to end with
- 12:31Strowman. I don't think that's like the
- 12:33chef's kiss, you know what I mean?
- 12:34Like we we definitely need a little more help there.
- 12:38So please don't let that be the highlight of the offseason as
- 12:44far as signings. I can't wait.
- 12:49I I may have already said this, but I can't wait.
- 12:51To text me this. How he responds at no, not.
- 12:55I'm not even talking about Devers.
- 12:57I'm talking about I can't wait to see how he and the Old Bronx
- 13:02Faith will get along after his first poor outing and they're
- 13:05letting him hear it on on Twitter.
- 13:07The few people that remain that haven't been blocked yet of
- 13:10course, but I'm I'm curious to see how that goes because he.
- 13:15Is a track record. Of it not going well.
- 13:18He's from New York. So which is another thing these
- 13:22like the little bit of the attitude.
- 13:27I I think that's probably the only way because like if to
- 13:31survive in New York you either have to be the guy that like
- 13:34gives the perfect answer, your heartbeat stays this, the Jeter,
- 13:40the Jeter or. You're the guy that claps back.
- 13:43Or you're David Wells. You're super, super emotional.
- 13:47Love me or hate me, but I'm going to be me.
- 13:49I'm going to say my words Take it or leave it.
- 13:53And then you have you got the Yankee faithful on your side.
- 13:58I think he would be better. Going that route.
- 14:01Should be like, hey, here's me, I've got my swagger.
- 14:04I've got my attitude. You Yankee fans are the same way
- 14:08I am. Let's be boys, just don't come
- 14:14in here and try to act like Aaron Judge.
- 14:16Don't suddenly turn and change your your characteristics that
- 14:23make you what you are. You know what I mean?
- 14:27Yeah, spare me on the whole. Grew up a Yankees fan thing.
- 14:32It's all, oh, yeah, that's how it's that's how it's been his
- 14:35whole career. It's about fitting the
- 14:36narrative. Yeah.
- 14:37When he was with the Mets, all you saw was pictures of him as a
- 14:42kid. Yeah, decked out in Mets gear.
- 14:45Yeah, I don't need that. I'm all good.
- 14:46And now it's oh, look at the pictures of of young little
- 14:49Marcus Stroman rocking the Yankees gear.
- 14:53I don't need that. Just pitch, dude.
- 14:57I don't. Stop trying to convince me that
- 14:59you're you're like this lifelong Yankees guy.
- 15:01You very well may be, But stick with that narrative.
- 15:05Like, let that be the picture picture that circulates.
- 15:07Don't try to play to each fan base the way you do.
- 15:10I'm all for trying to like pander a little bit when you get
- 15:13there, but this guy is all about pandering.
- 15:16And then when it goes South, then it's well, the fan base is
- 15:19racist or I hate that city. The front office sucks.
- 15:24They mismanaged me as an asset. I just nailed it.
- 15:27That's his whole career, so. I don't.
- 15:30See it? I don't see it changing anytime
- 15:32soon, but who knows, maybe the pinstripes will.
- 15:34Did you see the the post that he put out, like on his story said
- 15:39he's excited to put on and he put in all caps the pinstripes.
- 15:44Obviously Cubs wear pinstripes, so maybe that was like a little
- 15:47bit of like a jab. I don't I I don't understand
- 15:50what you have. There's always like this.
- 15:52Burning a bridge. That's what I'm saying.
- 15:53There's always like this underlying like jab.
- 15:59It's it's strange. It's strange.
- 16:02I'd, I'm not a fan of the guy but if you come here and do
- 16:07well, you come here and do well. So whatever.
- 16:11I did see he only gave up nine home runs last year, so.
- 16:18He's got to stay. He's got to stay healthy.
- 16:20Like I said with especially and you you know far better than I
- 16:23do. But with Rodon and and some
- 16:25other scenarios of of guys not being able to provide that
- 16:30consistency, he just has to stay healthy.
- 16:32And he's got to give you those starts, those innings that that
- 16:35you so desperately that any team desperately needs.
- 16:38Like you need guys that you can rely on, especially if they're
- 16:40front end guys. And if he does slot in it too,
- 16:43then there's going to be a little bit of added pressure
- 16:47there for him, so. Go get snow.
- 16:53I'm happy I could be on on that point.
- 16:56I could see it happening at this point because I think a couple
- 16:58teams that were maybe in on snow initially have have fallen out
- 17:02of it at this point. Yeah, I I thought he would have
- 17:05signed by now, but. So did I.
- 17:08I agree. Is he?
- 17:09He's a Boris guy, right? Sure.
- 17:13I think he's a Boris guy, so he's probably just waiting it
- 17:15out. Yes, boys, guys tend to do.
- 17:23But yeah, I could see him. I haven't heard much on the
- 17:27Mariners front, which could, I don't know.
- 17:33I could lean either way on that. But at this point, the Yankees
- 17:38have shown they're not afraid to make a move, so I could very
- 17:43well see that being the place Snellens up, which in that
- 17:47scenario drops Strowman 3. Snell would slot into.
- 17:54Strowman would be 3, you'd have Rodon at 4, and that's.
- 17:57That's what I'm saying. Like if you scoot everyone down.
- 18:00Clark's the odd man out in that in that case.
- 18:03Yeah, but I got no problem with easing some guys in.
- 18:09Sure, she's going six man rotation for a little bit.
- 18:11Give Cole his typical schedule. Let other guys do what they need
- 18:16to do. Speaking of starters and
- 18:19bullpens and schedules, Jordan Hicks apparently as a starter
- 18:26now for the San Francisco Giants after signing a four year, $44
- 18:30million contract. They said the plan is to convert
- 18:33him from the pin to a starter. He's got a little bit of a
- 18:39little bit of time on the bump as a starter, I believe in the
- 18:43minors and then he started for the Cards for a handful of games
- 18:47and has some experience opening as well.
- 18:49Not necessarily the same, but he has been handed the ball to open
- 18:54a game before. So not it's not ground breaking
- 18:57for him in that regard, but we we shall see.
- 19:00The Giants have taken an interesting approach to their
- 19:03pitching this offseason, if I do say so myself, Getting a guy
- 19:08from the pen, converting them to a starter.
- 19:10You go out and get Robbie Ray, who we've already talked about
- 19:12but is coming off of injury surgery and you're going to have
- 19:18to wait him him out till at least the All Star break.
- 19:23Is that what we said? At least.
- 19:26So I don't know. I mean, rather than going and
- 19:29getting just a guy who's healthy and can give you innings, and
- 19:37it's not necessarily an experiment, they're like, no,
- 19:40we're going to do quite the opposite.
- 19:43We're going to go get a guy who we need to wait out to the All
- 19:45Star break and we're going to go get a reliever who throws Chad
- 19:49that we know won't be sustainable over the course of
- 19:536-7, possibly 8 innings. But we're going to.
- 19:56We're going to work. On waiting to Yeah, I was
- 19:58waiting to see where you fell on that what side of the fence you
- 20:02fell on. I agree.
- 20:03I mean, it's just weird. It's just weird.
- 20:06The contract itself is not. No, I don't think the money's
- 20:10bad. For the bids that they've made,
- 20:12this is a fraction of what they so I mean to get a guy.
- 20:15Who upside? I mean, there's a ceiling there.
- 20:18Sure. And he's had success.
- 20:22I'm all I'm all about it. I just don't know, given the
- 20:25state of your rotation as it stands.
- 20:27Because if you think about it, Logan Webb is your only real
- 20:33solified or like solidified guy. Everything else is either an
- 20:38experiment or a question mark or unproven.
- 20:42Yeah, that's that's kind of what we're dealing with.
- 20:46What does the rotation rotation look like?
- 20:49I saw eight starts in 2022, by the way, which I'm assuming
- 20:53we're all opens technically. You've got Ross, friend of the
- 21:00pod. Ross.
- 21:01Stripling's in there. Robbie Ray, as I mentioned, but
- 21:05you got to wait, wait on him. Alex Cobb is also out to start
- 21:09the season, not for the whole season, I don't believe.
- 21:13Just to start. You got some prospects in there,
- 21:20Kyle Harrison keep the win. So I mean, comparatively, we're
- 21:29talking about the Yankees rotation having some some
- 21:32question marks. Definitely some question marks
- 21:34here. I would much rather be in the
- 21:36Yankees boat than for sure the Giants boat, because those those
- 21:40question marks are far greater. Yeah, I'm looking at this whole
- 21:49roster. So it's just, it's just so
- 21:54weird. It's just a weird roster.
- 22:00Chill out on the outfielders. These guys aren't tradable.
- 22:05Like you can't trade JD Davis. He did nothing last year.
- 22:08You can't trade Wilmer Flores Conforto Yas.
- 22:13I thought, I mean, maybe not over the course of the whole
- 22:16season, but didn't JD have a have a spurt last year where he
- 22:19kind of went off? But I.
- 22:20Thought he was unhealthy for most of the year, wasn't he?
- 22:23Am I thinking of last year? Outside of Tyro Estrada, I'm
- 22:27like, everybody should be up for grabs.
- 22:29Outside of him and Patrick Bailey I he.
- 22:35Had a little bit of a run last year.
- 22:36JD Make a move like do something.
- 22:40That's the thing, though. We talked about this.
- 22:42They try and they try and they try.
- 22:44Again, and they they don't. They never trade.
- 22:47They just bank on like 1 superstar signing to fix
- 22:51everything and then you swing and miss on every superstar.
- 22:56It's just it's strange. It's it's weird.
- 23:01Try something different, do something new.
- 23:05Stop signing veteran outfielders and then appease your fan base
- 23:13by saying, well, we went after him, he just didn't agree to the
- 23:16contract. What?
- 23:19Assuming this chart. You're right on on all those
- 23:24things by the way, but I'm I'm looking, I'm looking at this
- 23:27chart and cause in my head I'm like, why do I get to?
- 23:33Why do I feel like in my gut that the Giants have made an
- 23:37effort to shift away from their geriatric roster that they held
- 23:41on to for so long? And assuming this chart is
- 23:46correct, it does not appear as though they're in the upper
- 23:52tier. They're middle of the pack now.
- 23:56Yeah, they're middle of the pack.
- 23:58ESPN has them at 14, average age, sitting at 27.3.
- 24:08Let me double check second opinion here.
- 24:11So it's not, when you talk about them not wanting to trade, it's
- 24:22not that they're necessarily not willing to trade so that they
- 24:26can rely on one or two superstars and then a bunch of
- 24:3040 year olds. It used to.
- 24:32It used to be that. But I think they've shifted away
- 24:36from that and are now trying to produce some homegrown talent,
- 24:41bring guys up through the system.
- 24:43And maybe with that shift, maybe they just haven't gotten around
- 24:46to it yet. But maybe there's going to be a
- 24:48shift in philosophy and and maybe some trades start to
- 24:53happen. I think they're running out of
- 24:54time given what's left in the conversation, if you will.
- 25:00The names are being kind of floated around.
- 25:02I mean you you could make a trade at any point.
- 25:04I'm not saying it's impossible, but you know the teams are going
- 25:07to float their guys out there such as like a a Dylan Sees and
- 25:13you've already seen what happened with Dylan sees.
- 25:14They floated them out there, didn't really like their turn.
- 25:16So they they're pulling them back most likely and and are
- 25:19going to ride it out till at least the deadline.
- 25:21So if you're the Giants and you want to make something happen,
- 25:25you need to make it happen somewhat soon.
- 25:29I don't. I don't see the wild card being
- 25:34an option for them. Obviously the division isn't an
- 25:39option for them, so it's like, why are you still sticking with
- 25:47these older players? I'd rather just bring guys up
- 25:49and give them more experience. See what you got.
- 25:53You got your you got blockades all over the place, your
- 25:57outfield, your corner infield. If you finally got to move on
- 26:03from Brandon Crawford, and nothing against Brandon
- 26:05Crawford. But it's like, you know what
- 26:06you're getting. Like you know you're getting out
- 26:09of these guys and it's not an 85 win team.
- 26:15Just don't see it. So bring up some youth, figure
- 26:20out what you're doing. I don't know.
- 26:23I don't know. Just doesn't get me fired up.
- 26:28You haven't been fired up about the Giants in it's.
- 26:31Yeah. A long.
- 26:32Time. If they're, they're sneaking
- 26:34into Brewer territory for me, and that's dangerous.
- 26:40If you're the Giants and you're listening, you don't want to be
- 26:42there. You you don't want to get on
- 26:44Nate's Brewer side? Dangerous waters?
- 26:47Forget bad side. You don't want to be on his
- 26:49Brewer side. The Braves extend Alex
- 26:55Anthropolis through the 2031 season.
- 27:02Duh, duh. I hate it.
- 27:07I love it, but I hate it. That's that's it.
- 27:09That's the best way I can put it.
- 27:10I. If you're not a brave fan, you
- 27:12hate it because you're jealous, yes?
- 27:16That's that's that's really what what we're doing.
- 27:18It's all it is, just, at its core, just jealousy.
- 27:22Yeah, I mean, dude, it's genius. I don't get how he does it and I
- 27:30I make this joke all the time, but I'm really starting to think
- 27:33that there's truly some like black magic.
- 27:39I don't know what it is it. It doesn't make sense how he's
- 27:44able to pull off such team friendly deals.
- 27:47And the point that I've made with this all along is that sure
- 27:51you could maybe get one or two guys on the whole, hey, like,
- 27:55this is this is for the future. If you if you'll work with us,
- 27:59we can guarantee you rings years to come.
- 28:03You won't be able to get your bag that maybe you'd get
- 28:05elsewhere. But we're taking a risk on you.
- 28:08You take a risk on us and let's do it for the movement.
- 28:11You can get a couple guys on that but you can't convince me
- 28:16that every one of these guys that has signed such a team
- 28:21friendly deal is on board with that It it doesn't make sense
- 28:25because some of these guys are going to go.
- 28:27I'm good. I'll I'm passing on your quote
- 28:29UN quote movement and I want to get my money.
- 28:33But every offseason it seems now for the last however many years
- 28:38it's oh they they signed this guy for a bag of chips to for 12
- 28:42years. I I don't know how it happens,
- 28:44but good for the Braves for going and locking down their
- 28:46guy. This is just a wizard.
- 28:51He's just a wizard. I don't know.
- 28:53There's no other way to say it. He is creative with moving money
- 28:58around and like, it's not just the contracts, it's not just the
- 29:04extensions, it's the moves he makes in in the maneuvering
- 29:09around making it make sense. He's like genuinely maximizing
- 29:17payroll and roster and longevity and it helps that, like you
- 29:26gotta give the Braves organization equal credit
- 29:28because like you developed, you know, your cornerstones, you
- 29:34developed some of these guys and you struck gold on them being
- 29:40super, super talented and you beat them to the punch when it
- 29:46comes to extension. So like it's it's kind of a full
- 29:49circle. It's just a perfect storm that's
- 29:51it's gone all Braves way and then you add in, you drop in a
- 29:56couple vets that are like willing to win and boom, all of
- 30:01a sudden you're a problem for a decade.
- 30:03Exactly. And you bring up a good point
- 30:05about maximizing productivity. The, I think the thing that the
- 30:07Braves do so well as opposed to a team, just, I mean just
- 30:14recently that comes to mind, like the Padres, they're getting
- 30:17these guys, they're signing them to long term deals, but they're
- 30:21maximizing the right years for these guys.
- 30:24They're not getting these guys in their late.
- 30:26They're not, they're not running these guys out to their late 30s
- 30:29into the early 40s. They're getting these guys just
- 30:33at the right time. You're getting the right number
- 30:35of years and if you want to keep them around or extend them at a
- 30:38certain point a handful of years into the contract, so be it.
- 30:42But at least for the time being up front, you're getting these
- 30:45guys for the the the best years that they're more than likely
- 30:50going to give you. Which is hoarding prospects
- 30:52either, which is obviously they have.
- 30:56Are just off the charts, man. That's.
- 30:58Crazy. That's That's a pet peeve for
- 30:59both both of us, the prospect hoarding.
- 31:03Move along. You got a superstar in that
- 31:06position. Move all your prospects that are
- 31:09playing that position and continue to fill out the big
- 31:12league roster. They're doing it right, dude.
- 31:16The guy's a genius and it's like, it's no brainer.
- 31:20Did we see what the money was worth?
- 31:24I don't. Does it matter?
- 31:26Public. Let's see.
- 31:32Yeah. I mean, I don't know if it
- 31:33matters. Watch it just it's like an
- 31:35ownership stake or something. It's like 500 bucks and then a
- 31:373% revenue. I'll take $1.00.
- 31:40Yeah. It'd be wildly ironic if it was
- 31:48for just Boku Bucks. Is it Boku or Buku Buku.
- 31:55I thought it was Boku. Is it Buku?
- 31:57Buku Bucks. I don't know if this stuff
- 32:00becomes public. What do you think of Boku is or
- 32:04a Buku? Is it Boku or Buku?
- 32:16Are you looking it up? I am looking it up.
- 32:20Definition of boku means many or a lot.
- 32:22I mean, I could have guessed that.
- 32:24Can I get a? Can I get like the Google?
- 32:27It's a pronunciation. It's a play.
- 32:31Well, I don't. I don't have that pulled up.
- 32:33But it does say it's a play on the French word boku BEAUCOUP.
- 32:42What does that mean? French bucks?
- 32:48Many or a lot? We don't use it More than just
- 32:53bucks, We don't say. Like I've got buku cookies in my
- 32:56cookie jar. Yeah, Buku bucks just rolls off
- 33:00the tongue. Sure does.
- 33:01Boku. Buku.
- 33:02I don't know Boku. I like Boku says be OK you Boku.
- 33:08Anyway, you know who has a lot? Who has Boku Bucks but chooses
- 33:15not to spend any of them? The Boston Red Sox and they,
- 33:22Craig Breslow came out recently and just dropped a bombshell.
- 33:26I'd say a bombshell. I mean, I think you could have
- 33:28seen this coming from a mile away given the way the
- 33:30offseason's been going. But it just hurts to hear it
- 33:35because, you know, like as a fan of the team, you're holding that
- 33:37hope. Like, OK, we bring, we get rid
- 33:39of Heim. We we bring in Craig Breslow and
- 33:43you know you've got Tom Warner saying we're this team is going
- 33:46full throttle. This offseason, post Craig
- 33:49Breslow edition, you bring him in you got, as I said Tom Warner
- 33:54come in and say we're going full, full throttle.
- 33:56They haven't gone full throttle. I don't even know if they've
- 33:59started the car. But you had Craig Breslow.
- 34:03I think he, he had an interview with the Globe or something the
- 34:06other day and his quote was as follows.
- 34:09As I've gotten to know this organization better through the
- 34:11conversations I've had with ownership, they absolutely are
- 34:14still supportive of assembling a World Series team as quickly as
- 34:17we possibly can. But I think the reality is that
- 34:20it's going to require a step forward from the young position
- 34:23players. It's going to require the build
- 34:25out of a talent pipeline of arms that we can acquire, we draft
- 34:28and we can develop internally and it's going to require
- 34:32aggressive player development in the minor leagues, in the major
- 34:35leagues. So guys that we think are the
- 34:36next wave, Marcella Meyer, Roman Anthony, Kyle, Thiel, that group
- 34:41are not just big leaguers but impact big leaguers.
- 34:43The convergence of all of those pieces is the fastest path to a
- 34:47World Series team. We want to build this thing in a
- 34:49way that there's just not quality once in a while, but
- 34:52there's quality paired with consistency.
- 34:55In other words, we're waiting it out for this young wave of
- 34:58talent that's coming up in a number of years and.
- 35:01In other words, yeah, we're going to enjoy last place until
- 35:042026. In other words, go sit in the
- 35:07corner, Red Sox fans, and suck on your thumbs, because we're
- 35:11doing nothing. In other words, don't say that
- 35:14you're going full throttle this off season.
- 35:17You would think you would think that would be the way to go as
- 35:21as a front office who has little self-awareness.
- 35:27I I'm not surprised that they put their foot in the mouth this
- 35:29way. But you would think, knowing
- 35:33that this was the plan all along, that you wouldn't say
- 35:35full throttle. At the very least, just don't
- 35:37say anything at all and let this come out naturally.
- 35:40And people are still going to be disappointed.
- 35:42But it wouldn't have been following a quote such as saying
- 35:47we're going full throttle, only for fans to be let down when
- 35:50they realize we're punting until maybe 2026.
- 35:55Just an absolute. Joke, dude.
- 35:57Tough. The real tough.
- 35:58I think One of the Verdugo quotes in the Yankee Press
- 36:02series, he was like, it was kind of strange to see Fenway half
- 36:06empty, like you're never used to.
- 36:07That hasn't been that way in a long time.
- 36:11There's been a there's been a movement on Twitter or on social
- 36:14altogether, I guess that people are, they're fed up, dude.
- 36:20They're not. There's a lot of people that are
- 36:21saying they're not going to Fenway next year, which I mean,
- 36:24it's going to sell out. So many people, including
- 36:27myself, for like it's a tourist attraction.
- 36:30Like people are going to show up and they know that.
- 36:32That's the thing that's frustrating.
- 36:33It's like it's really hard with this franchise more than others
- 36:37to prove a point financially. Like you can't stick it to him
- 36:40because. It's a bucket list thing.
- 36:41It's a bucket list place for baseball fans.
- 36:43Exactly. People are going to show up and
- 36:45people are going to spend money. People are like people are
- 36:48clamoring for fans, like bring hot dogs from home.
- 36:50I'm like, OK, that's a that's a bit too far.
- 36:52I'm not really hot dogs in my pocket.
- 36:56One, because it have no way of heating them up.
- 37:00And two, if you're coming from out of town, that means you're
- 37:06going to have to stop on the street corner, pick them up,
- 37:08bring them in. It's just a mess.
- 37:10You don't have the. Ability to do a lot going on a.
- 37:13Lot of moving parts. But yeah man, I honestly, and I
- 37:18was hoping maybe you could just walk me through it real quick to
- 37:21to help me get my feet on the ground.
- 37:23I really don't know how to feel about this year because I told
- 37:26you that I'm I was, I was going to be in a much better place
- 37:30this year. I.
- 37:31Do remember that. With this team, because I just
- 37:33wanted, I'm gone. Although I will acknowledge that
- 37:37I I think with everything that's come out, especially this quote,
- 37:40we're realizing that Haim, I think was scapegoated a little
- 37:44bit more than gave credit for. Frankly, I just still wanted
- 37:50them gone. I I just needed a new even if he
- 37:52was handcuffed a little bit or a lot I just I needed something
- 37:56like something fresh to work with because I I just got tired
- 38:01of reading the headlines of inabilities to make trades and
- 38:06and so on and so forth. So I just I needed something new
- 38:10and to bring in a former player. I was like, all right, he's
- 38:12going to be, he's going to be new at this but let's let's roll
- 38:15with this. Let's ride.
- 38:16And it's been a relatively still offseason, but I just don't know
- 38:21what these comments I don't know how to feel about this upcoming
- 38:25season. Like are you saying, are you
- 38:27saying that you you are somewhat forgiving?
- 38:31I'm Bloom in a way. A little bit.
- 38:35I mean I'll hand up, I'll acknowledge that like I was
- 38:38probably knowing what we know now is probably a little hard
- 38:40on. But like I said, you still in
- 38:43his position, you have the ability.
- 38:45He wasn't, he wasn't new to a front office when he got here.
- 38:49So like, even if you're hand cut financially, go out and make a
- 38:52trade. But you heard about all these
- 38:54agents talking about like, why? Why is Heimblum treating the Red
- 38:59Sox like a small market team? Like why does he get cold feet
- 39:02on trades? Why does he never want to lose a
- 39:04trade you got? You have to be willing to take
- 39:06risk to lose a trade every once in a while.
- 39:08If it means making a move to shake things up a little bit, to
- 39:11possibly improve your team, who knows?
- 39:13He just he didn't do that. So I I I put that on him all.
- 39:18Right. Let's do this, then.
- 39:20This will help me figure out where you're at.
- 39:22I want you to rank these blooms. OK, you got Heimblum, You got
- 39:28Orlando Bloom, and then you got the Bloomin Onion from Outback.
- 39:32Rank those and you. That'll tell me where we're at
- 39:36mentally. I'll be completely honest, I
- 39:38don't even remember what Orlando Bloom was in.
- 39:41I know, Orlando. Pirates of the Caribbean.
- 39:44No, that's that's not. Yes, he is in Pirates of the
- 39:47Caribbean. Yeah.
- 39:47Yeah, when I think Orlando Bloom, I think Johnny Depp,
- 39:52weirdly enough, so. Probably.
- 39:55Because of Pirates of the Caribbean, I think, yeah.
- 39:57No, but I'm saying sometimes I get them mixed up.
- 40:00Sure, sure. I would go, I'd go blooming
- 40:06onion. Orlando Bloom behind Bloom.
- 40:09Blooming onion at the top? Yeah, 100% slaps.
- 40:14Severely underrated. So that's where I'm at right
- 40:17now. Outback has slept on, in my
- 40:18opinion. That's fair.
- 40:21That makes me understand that you, like you, somewhat
- 40:23forgiven, but like, not that much.
- 40:27That's fair. That's where we're at.
- 40:28And I I just don't know, like I can't.
- 40:36I I knew this was like at at the start of the offseason or or
- 40:41post Craig Breslow hiring. I knew that this was still a
- 40:45possibility. Like I knew that there was
- 40:47possibility they weren't going to do much.
- 40:48I was hopeful that they would. They pulled his trigger on some
- 40:50moves, but I didn't know just quite how to feel about it.
- 40:56But I felt generally that I was in a better position than last.
- 41:00I was in a much better position than I was last year because I
- 41:03had, I had no interest in in following that team last year
- 41:07the way I had years prior. But with this now it's like, all
- 41:11right. So you're just telling me it's
- 41:12more the same it's another last place finish for possibly the
- 41:15next two years maybe even beyond that.
- 41:18If if what you're telling me about 2026 is a joke like and
- 41:24people are saying, well, it's just spoiled Red Sox.
- 41:26Yeah, yes and no. Like I don't care.
- 41:30I don't care how recently they won a World Series.
- 41:32Like no fan should be should be accepting of their ownership
- 41:36group, just being like, yeah, we're going to punt when you
- 41:41have the resources to be better than you currently are, which
- 41:45they do, but they choose not to so that they can pocket the
- 41:49money. I don't know what they're doing,
- 41:51but I don't know. Should I feel better or?
- 41:54Should I feel like to? I think by the end of May, you
- 41:58need to tell me who's going to have a better record at the end
- 42:01of the year, the Mets or the OR the Red The Red Sox, by the end
- 42:05of May. I need an answer by that point.
- 42:07That's a valid question because that I'm kind of putting them in
- 42:09the same boat right now because you we we talked about it all
- 42:12the time multiple times since that story leaked.
- 42:16But it's like you got the Mets saying we're good, Red Sox
- 42:19saying we're good. We'll see you in a year or two.
- 42:21Best case scenario, you have an excellent start from Lucas
- 42:27Giolito in the first half of the year and you flip them and you
- 42:30get some names you know for the future.
- 42:32I guess, but like, do I mean, I'm going to support the Red
- 42:37Sox. I'm going to support the
- 42:38players. That's that's.
- 42:39Not you need to. I think it's.
- 42:41I think it's more important you find the right team in the NL
- 42:45that you'd like to, you'd like to.
- 42:47Well, I already have that. It's.
- 42:49D backs again or. No, not the D backs that.
- 42:54That was just a team that I thought was going to make a
- 42:55little bit of noise. Yeah, it's yeah, how do I I want
- 43:01to like strategically boycott though?
- 43:03Like, do I just not buy officially licensed team gear?
- 43:07Like, 'cause I saw some people being on there like, hey, still
- 43:10support the team like in the in the replies, they're like still
- 43:13support the team, which is buy used gear or buy like knock off
- 43:17gear that. You do you do kind of scavenge
- 43:22through some some eBay. Marketplace.
- 43:27Yeah, I do. Very.
- 43:28Good in that category, so. I'm in that life, man.
- 43:33Maybe that's the route I take. Probably.
- 43:35Probably. I don't.
- 43:36Know if I'm. I don't know if I make it up to
- 43:37Boston this year, so I at least I'm gonna be putting money in
- 43:41their pockets that way. We'll see.
- 43:42Yeah, yeah, the idea they don't come to DC right?
- 43:47So your only your only hope is worth more.
- 43:50Yeah, and. And I went to the games in DC
- 43:54and I hated it. Yeah.
- 43:57I hated it. It was.
- 43:58It was not enjoyable. Think you know where you stand
- 44:01then? I won't even.
- 44:06Yeah. I won't even get to the point of
- 44:07talking noise to you this year. I just want a year where we can.
- 44:12Where we can I want. A year worth, seriously, where
- 44:15we're both freaking good and we're just.
- 44:17Hurting each other's feelings to the point where, like, we're
- 44:20debating on whether or not we should record an episode because
- 44:22we're still a little salty. Yes, I miss those days.
- 44:26That was a good place at 2018 ironically our first year of
- 44:30doing this that was that was peak for that I know that I mean
- 44:33that is it's it's. Embarrassing ever since. 2021, a
- 44:39little bit of that, you know, the wild card game you and I
- 44:41went to and the playoff run, a little bit of that.
- 44:44But we need, we need 2018 back. Kind of wrapping things up here
- 44:50before we get into the Ricky Henderson segment.
- 44:56Dusty Baker returning to the Giants as a special assistant,
- 45:02so this will be his third stint with the team.
- 45:06As many of you know, he he managed for 26 years.
- 45:15He managed the Giant specifically from 9093 to 2002
- 45:23and then came back as an advisor, I believe in 18 and 19.
- 45:29So as I said, this would be a third cent with a team.
- 45:32I'm all about it, man. I'm glad.
- 45:33I'm glad Dusty's sticking around.
- 45:36I guess I don't know what this advisor role means anymore.
- 45:40Every team does it. It's like APR stunt.
- 45:44Show me some proof in the pudding that like you're like
- 45:47they're involved in a specific project.
- 45:50Show me how they're helping. Otherwise, this is just clicks.
- 45:56I'm over it. I'm over a team saying we signed
- 45:58this guy as a special assistant. I don't know what that means.
- 46:03Unless you're an assistant GM diet.
- 46:06Don't want to hear about you hiring an assistant.
- 46:08Anything. You're not important.
- 46:11So love you, Dusty. Welcome back.
- 46:14I guess I you were gone for 5 minutes.
- 46:17Hope you enjoyed retirement. I don't.
- 46:20I don't know what any of this means, but the Giants still
- 46:23suck. So you want RAW.
- 46:29There's RAW. I'm all about it.
- 46:35Additionally, Sean Doolittle hired just kind of closing Sean.
- 46:41Sean Doolittle, hired by the Nationals as a pitching
- 46:44strategist. Copy and paste my last
- 46:52statement, I don't know what. Control C, Control B, you know,
- 46:57you know, I mean, you talk about clicks and I'm not saying he's
- 47:01not going to have any impact on the team, but the Nationals very
- 47:05well know how much that fan base loves Sean Doolittle and for
- 47:08good reason. He's that he's like a part of
- 47:10that culture, man. He's he's all about it in DC
- 47:13they love. Him.
- 47:13He is entirely, entirely irrelevant to any other fan
- 47:17base. This news means nothing to me.
- 47:20If you're a Nats fan, I hope you.
- 47:24They love it, dude. They're eating it up and, and
- 47:28that's what I'm saying, these cliques, they're the.
- 47:31The only positive thing I can say, the only cool thing I can
- 47:34say about this is former players recently removed from playing
- 47:41being included in Front Office Analytical slash.
- 47:50Hey dude, like, let's ease up on the analytics and let me talk to
- 47:54you about actual stuff. Like, what goes into it?
- 47:58But let me ask you this, wouldn't.
- 48:00I mean, I know just about as much as you do probably in this
- 48:03regard, but wouldn't you say a pitching strategist would be in
- 48:08the pen on game days as opposed to a front office role?
- 48:12You think? Yeah, maybe he's like shadowing
- 48:16the pitching coach or something like that, right?
- 48:19Bullpen codes I or the. Bullpen codes.
- 48:22Yeah, I doubt it. Strategist I think to me is
- 48:27probably more in like the player development side of things.
- 48:29You think? OK, yeah.
- 48:31Well, then you're right, man. I mean, maybe.
- 48:33And that's cool. Like, I'm not.
- 48:34I'm not hitting on that. Yeah, you want proof in the
- 48:37pudding of a project. I mean, I I think there's a very
- 48:40Direct Line of communication from him to the people up in the
- 48:44box of saying like, hey, like you said, let's dial it back on
- 48:47this, let's crank it up on this. Yeah, I am.
- 48:50I will say I am a sucker for players that had longevity in
- 48:57the league but weren't necessarily superstars when they
- 49:03get, when they give back to the game in some way.
- 49:06I'm a sucker for that. Because they those are the guys
- 49:09that had to grind to stick around.
- 49:10They know the game up, down, left, right, inside and out.
- 49:14These superstars. Not saying they don't know the
- 49:17game, but if it comes that easily, if it comes that
- 49:20naturally. And they can't teach it.
- 49:22Yeah, not to say you didn't put in the work to get there, but if
- 49:24it if it comes to you easily and naturally you, you maybe don't
- 49:30have the same level of appreciation for the grind as a
- 49:34guy like Sean Doolittle. Yeah.
- 49:37I'm all, I'm 1000% on board with you on that, that.
- 49:40I'm a huge fan of that. Outside of that national suck?
- 49:49Raw. Future, future, Future could be
- 49:52bright. Got to, got to make some, got to
- 49:55make some moves there. Kendall Graveman last Last note
- 49:58for closing the book here will miss the IT was announced this
- 50:01week that he will miss the 2024 season after having shoulder
- 50:05surgery and I think that I read the report that said it's not
- 50:09necessarily impacting the Astros approach to relief pitching with
- 50:19the free agent market and or trades.
- 50:21Nor should it. Kendall Grieman gets no one
- 50:24fired up. Is that OK?
- 50:28Yeah, good year or two. But like, I don't think it's
- 50:30anything to bank on. Did we, like, see news on this?
- 50:37Did it happen during like, a bullpen?
- 50:39Why are we hearing about guys getting surgeries this this late
- 50:44in the offseason? Like, figure this out in in
- 50:47November? Yeah, you know what I mean?
- 50:49Like, save yourself at least two or three months and have the
- 50:53hope that if your team's in good shape, you can come back for
- 50:56September. Sure.
- 50:58It's just weird. I got I it's happening more and
- 51:01more often. I think too, just random
- 51:03surgeries coming at random times.
- 51:07So unless it's like a hey, I was just throwing a pen for my first
- 51:11time back after six weeks off and now I tore something like
- 51:15that you get, you know, no control over.
- 51:17But yeah, I don't know, get your surgeries done sooner.
- 51:22Or just recover from them in like 60 days like Harper did,
- 51:26and perfect. All will be good, all right.
- 51:33Here it is. That's what you've been waiting
- 51:34for. I'm so amped for this dude.
- 51:36So many Nuggets on Ricky Henderson's career stolen bases
- 51:41record. It's insane.
- 51:43All right. So for those ten piece or 20
- 51:44piece? What's that?
- 51:48You said Nuggets. I mean Nuggets. 0202220 pieces
- 51:53one for later. Ricky Henderson 1406 stolen
- 52:01bases in his career. Now zoom out a little bit before
- 52:04we deep dive into this little background on on his career.
- 52:07For those who don't know and I'll be I'll be quite honest
- 52:10with you, I don't think I appreciated Ricky Henderson's
- 52:13career as much as I do. Now having looked at the numbers
- 52:18and and and coming to the realization that he he is more
- 52:23of a multi dimensional player then I think he gets credit for.
- 52:26Because I think when you hear Ricky Henderson you think I mean
- 52:28the guy's nickname was Man of Steel, like literal STEAL.
- 52:34And you have to zoom out a little bit and go you know this
- 52:38guy could, this guy could hit, this guy could hold his own at
- 52:41the plate. But for his career, Hall of
- 52:44Famer obviously MVP winner, 10 time All Star, two time World
- 52:48Series champion, a Gold Glover and a three time Silver Slugger.
- 52:54His career numbers he had a career WAR of 111.2.
- 52:58He he accumulated 10,961 ABS, had 3055 hits, 297 homers.
- 53:07He had a career average of 279, drove in 1115 runs, and as I
- 53:13mentioned, stole 1406 bases for his career.
- 53:20His MVP career. Looking specifically at the 1990
- 53:23season, he had 65 stolen bases which led the American League.
- 53:27He hit 325, had an OBP of 439, which led all of baseball, and
- 53:35LED all of baseball with an OPS of 1.016 and had an OPS plus of
- 53:45189. Yeah, I feel like people just
- 53:51kind of like. They just gloss over.
- 53:53They kind of think of like he's like a Billy Hamilton or
- 53:56something. All you were built for was
- 53:57speed, but like, Nah dude, exactly 5 tool.
- 54:03So diving diving into this record, he finished the This is
- 54:11insane. So I put out AI put out a post
- 54:13the other day talking about the just looking at the perspective
- 54:22of this record, he let me make sure I find it.
- 54:27He spent more time of his career being the all time leader in
- 54:31steels than not, which is in say.
- 54:36It out loud one more time. He spent more time in his career
- 54:40as the all time leader in steels than not.
- 54:44So he broke the record and had that held.
- 54:47That longer he played for more time.
- 54:50What then? Are you kidding me?
- 54:54Like, think about all like think of think of like the home run
- 54:57records or winning, winning records.
- 55:01Like a year you're put. You're pushing 40 to get to a
- 55:04record for for something like that.
- 55:07This guy, Ricky Henderson, finished his 1990 season, which
- 55:11was his MVP season and was his 11th season at the Major League
- 55:17level. He finished that year 22 steals
- 55:21shy of Lou Brock's record of 938, and it took Lou Brock 19
- 55:29seasons to do that. Ricky Henderson was too short
- 55:34after his 11th year. That's different, dude.
- 55:40I'm I'm sorry but I of of the records that we're doing and I I
- 55:44know I say this every every new record that we breakdown but I'm
- 55:48starting to think that this like nobody is touching this record
- 55:52nobody. No.
- 55:55And you want to know why if a player stole 50 bases a season
- 56:02for 28 year, 28 years? And would still have more
- 56:07steals. 50. Bags a season.
- 56:11For 28 years, that mean, OK, let's put this in perspective.
- 56:15Say you come up at at 20 and you're not exactly like the
- 56:21fastest guy, but you're known for stealing bags.
- 56:26If you stole 50 bags through your 40 year, you'd be 48 years
- 56:32old and you'd still be short. That's insane.
- 56:40It's. I don't understand.
- 56:43Hard to digest. I don't understand.
- 56:47Let's see some other Nuggets here.
- 56:50Ricky Henderson, I pull. I don't remember the article
- 56:53that I pulled this from, so forgive me for lacking credit
- 56:56here, but it said Ricky Henderson nearly ran a marathon
- 56:59in his career just stealing bases.
- 57:01His 1406 deals at 90 feet between bases adds up to 126,540
- 57:08feet, or 23.97 miles, just over too shy of a marathon.
- 57:17Marathon is 20. What 20?
- 57:186.2 He ran, he stole 23.97 miles worth of bags.
- 57:28You want some more Nuggets? I got more.
- 57:30Nuggets. Ricky stole 100 bases three
- 57:33times in his career. 119 eighty 130 and 82 and 108 and 83130 a
- 57:40hundred. And 30 which by the.
- 57:42Way is a single season steal record.
- 57:46Ty Cobb in the modern era had set the record with 96 in 1915,
- 57:53which was then broke in 1962 by Maury Willis with 104, which was
- 57:58then broken by Lou Brock in 1974 with 118.
- 58:02So Ricky Henderson's 130 steals in a season is the all time
- 58:08record for a single season? No.
- 58:13No, we're praising guys for 30. Like this guy could be a 4040
- 58:21guy. Ricky Henderson did the 40 * 3
- 58:26time, times three and then some 100.
- 58:31And 30 bags in a season. It almost hit 300 home runs in
- 58:34his. Career.
- 58:35That's what I'm saying. Over 3000 hits.
- 58:38It. Over 3000, hit 3000.
- 58:41What? I say 55297 home runs.
- 58:46So it wasn't. Just his.
- 58:49His ability to run like Sure, that plays a massive role when
- 58:52you're talking about all time career steals, but it was his
- 58:57ability to get on base, whether it was the hit or his ability to
- 59:01see pitches. He got a note here, only Barry
- 59:05Bonds had more walks than Ricky Henderson in a big league
- 59:10career. But Ricky Henderson has the most
- 59:16all time unintentional walks. Obviously we know Barry's story,
- 59:21intentionally walked with the bases loaded, yadda yadda yadda
- 59:24got one of the most feared of his time.
- 59:27But Ricky Henderson? Unintentional walks all time
- 59:30leader. Maybe, dude.
- 59:35I mean, may I don't. Know I'm going to say no.
- 59:37I'm going to lean towards no. But like the the rule, I think.
- 59:42I genuinely feel like these rule changes and like this MLBPA hope
- 59:53to get guys up younger mixed in with like really pushing
- 59:59offensive numbers, making sure the game is getting to this
- 1:00:04point. You could see, you could see
- 1:00:07big. Records being broken. 1520 years
- 1:00:11down the road, I could see it. This one, I don't see.
- 1:00:16This one. I don't see this one.
- 1:00:21I really don't. So aside.
- 1:00:25From the fact that he stole obviously many bags during the
- 1:00:31the prime of his career, I think that something.
- 1:00:34That's lost on a lot of. People is how he his ability to
- 1:00:39steal bags like even at the very end of his career like he he.
- 1:00:45Stole. I think.
- 1:00:48It was it said the. Last time he stole at least 60
- 1:00:52bases, he was 39 years old after turning. 40 His next?
- 1:00:573 Yearly stolen base totals were 3736 and 25.
- 1:01:02The only player ever with multiple 30 steal seasons at age
- 1:01:0540 or older. Wow.
- 1:01:08Which, by the way, I looked at his age 40 season with the Mets.
- 1:01:12Played 121 games, hit 315, had 37 bags, OPS of 889 and an OPS
- 1:01:21plus of 128 at age 40. Dude just did not fizzle.
- 1:01:25At all. Unless the bags get moved to to.
- 1:01:3355 feet? I don't see it happening even
- 1:01:36then. Dude, this.
- 1:01:36Is like the score the all. Time scoring title like pre and
- 1:01:40posts 3 point line. You know what I mean?
- 1:01:43That's how we're going to view these rule changes.
- 1:01:45Sure. Yeah.
- 1:01:46It's going to be like, what were these?
- 1:01:47What were these records before rules were implemented to help?
- 1:01:55You ain't touching this. Nobody's touching this.
- 1:02:00That's. That's what I'm saying that.
- 1:02:06I mean, I think all of the records that we're diving into
- 1:02:08this offseason are unbreakable, but I mean, this one's got to be
- 1:02:11up there. Yeah, we.
- 1:02:13I think at the end we. Should we need?
- 1:02:15To do like our own ranking. Our own power ranking, possibly.
- 1:02:18I like that of. Degree of unbreakable because.
- 1:02:22I like that 20. What did I say?
- 1:02:2428. Years of 50 bags and you're
- 1:02:27still not touching them. Insane.
- 1:02:30Insane. May happen.
- 1:02:33Well, that's. All I got wanted to just do like
- 1:02:34I said, a little. Little deep dive into that.
- 1:02:36I hope you enjoyed it. Is there anything I missed?
- 1:02:39I think that's about it. That's about it.
- 1:02:42We're getting there. Dude, it's slowly easing back
- 1:02:47into stuff happening. I can feel it.
- 1:02:50I can feel like a once a week signing.
- 1:02:56Happening right now. Stuff needs to get going, dude.
- 1:02:59Like, it's we're more than halfway through January, like
- 1:03:03time to make some moves. Certain teams like, there's
- 1:03:07still a lot of names out there, still a lot of stuff going on,
- 1:03:10like, let's, let's go. We got to start having
- 1:03:12conversations about fantasy baseball games soon.
- 1:03:15We absolutely do. I mean, we're.
- 1:03:17Under a month until pitchers and catchers report.
- 1:03:20So these teams need to need to give their their new
- 1:03:23acquisitions a chance to get comfy, get set up, get settled
- 1:03:26in with their new digs. So let's let's get it going.
- 1:03:29Let's let's make these moves happen and let's get to some
- 1:03:32baseball. Yeah, I like.
- 1:03:35It good stuff, old chap. I'm all done.
- 1:03:39Don't go chasing curveballs. Love you all.
- 1:03:41And as always, looking forward to talking more baseball with
- 1:03:43you guys. Soon until next time, stay
- 1:03:45filthy.
