- 0:01Hello and welcome to Off the Shelf with Phil and Dave, the
- 0:05movie talk show where each week one of us takes a movie off our
- 0:08shelf, presented to the other and discusses it at length.
- 0:18This week we've got coming off of My Shelf 1980 ones, Friday
- 0:22the 13th Part 2 directed by Steve Minor, written by Ron
- 0:27Kurz. A cast you know too many to
- 0:31name. Amy Steele, John Fury, Adrian
- 0:34King, Kirsten Baker, Stu Chamo, Warrington Gillette.
- 0:38The best a man can get. Walt Garney, Marta Cober.
- 0:41Tom McBride, Bill Randolph. I can go on.
- 0:43Russell Todd, Betty Palmer, Cliff Cutney.
- 0:47Got it all right here, buddy. That's what Dave brings to the
- 0:49table. David, how are you doing?
- 0:51How are you feeling? You didn't ask me that last
- 0:53week. I.
- 0:54Didn't because I didn't care. This week, I care.
- 0:56What's changed? You look sickly, OK.
- 1:00Concerned. OK, I'm I'm doing OK, you know,
- 1:04I'm sore. Did some sprints the other day
- 1:08so all up in my calves. Pulled a hammy like I didn't.
- 1:12I did not pull a hammy, No, no Sir.
- 1:14I'm still going to whatever university that was.
- 1:18Brown. Did you also ask me for my first
- 1:20impressions? I did.
- 1:20You did OK. Yeah.
- 1:21All right. I'll give them to you.
- 1:23It's probably the 10th time you've watched this movie, I'm
- 1:25sure so. Not quite.
- 1:27You know what? What's funny, Phillip, I was
- 1:29thinking about this a couple days ago.
- 1:31I was like, OK, I got to watch Friday the 13th.
- 1:34For whatever reason, Freddie pops into my head when I think
- 1:37about Friday the 13th. It should have gone that way.
- 1:40No, that's my point. As soon as I realized this is
- 1:43not Freddie, I was like, OK, I was relieved because I don't
- 1:47want Freddie. OK.
- 1:49Then. I was more interested if you
- 1:51recall. Yes, yes, yes, you.
- 1:53Definitely chose last year you gave me some options and I don't
- 1:56think I ever thank you for that. Well, once we get through all 12
- 2:00of them, we'll see if you still think.
- 2:04So once I realized that, I was less not excited OK to watch the
- 2:08second installment of the Friday series.
- 2:11Fantastic going back all the way to 1981.
- 2:13Yes, this is an annual. Yeah, they really just turn them
- 2:17out. This, in particular this series
- 2:19less than a year later. Do you know what's interesting
- 2:21about that? Tell me.
- 2:22Very similar to sports games on gaming systems.
- 2:28The Maddens of the Worlds, the NHL, all that stuff.
- 2:32Right. Sure.
- 2:33Yeah. I compared this movie for all
- 2:35you gamers out there, which obviously includes yourself, to
- 2:39NHL 22 beards roster update, but instead of beards, wheelchairs,
- 2:47that's the addition. Sure.
- 2:48Well, I was thinking that Jason has a beard a little bit in
- 2:51this, some scruff. So all that actively added
- 2:54beard. That fist year, but you remember
- 2:55that year? I don't know if it was 22, yeah,
- 2:57but we would joke about a roster update just they added facial
- 3:00hair. They were so big on that too, as
- 3:02part of like the. Trailer.
- 3:03That was it. We've got beards.
- 3:04Folks, that was the only thing. And it's like that every year.
- 3:07It's something, yeah. Yeah, there it is.
- 3:09Yeah. What are your thoughts on the
- 3:10introduction of a wheelchair? I'm like, are they going to kill
- 3:13this guy? Like I mean edgy.
- 3:16Yeah, yeah. I think we'll get into it a
- 3:17little bit deeper over. Oh, absolutely.
- 3:19There's a lot of depth to this movie that we're going to dive
- 3:22deep into. Deep into something.
- 3:24Phillip. Why this movie and by golly, why
- 3:28now? Is it that time of year already?
- 3:30It's that time. It's coming up on spooky
- 3:33seasons, they say. God.
- 3:35I don't like that. Oh, why?
- 3:36Because I live in Canada, like you, It's chilly.
- 3:40I got you. Well, I love the cold and I love
- 3:43the horror seasons, so I'm doing just fine this time of year.
- 3:46Great. As for the why this movie, well,
- 3:49certainly, as we alluded to earlier, you chose it.
- 3:53So yeah, I feel stupid asking, but I.
- 3:55Have to, yeah, I get it. So you asked for it, you getting
- 3:58it? And as far as why I sort of
- 4:03presented this movie to you or the two pathways from Friday
- 4:0713th to Nightmare on Elm Street a few months ago.
- 4:11There is something about these movies, as you know, just give
- 4:15me the the blood, guts and gore that gets me excited.
- 4:19So this time of year to watch some people get bloodied up and
- 4:24murdered just gets me going. I'm happy that that's what gets
- 4:27you up. Whatever works for you, buddy.
- 4:30That's right, for some, it's a whipped cream bikini.
- 4:33At this at this point in your life, you take what you can get
- 4:36right? That's right.
- 4:37Like if that works for you, you got to cling on it like grim
- 4:40death, which a lot of these meet that in this absolutely movie.
- 4:45Of course, Phil, I will open up the forum to you for all the
- 4:51preamble information. Sure.
- 4:53We're talking director, writer. That's it.
- 4:58That's it. Anybody I should know about?
- 5:01I didn't notice any. The director is a name you
- 5:03should recognize. Oh, minor.
- 5:05Steve Minor. Steve Minor.
- 5:06It would have to have been a Halloween.
- 5:08It was. H2 Oi.
- 5:09Don't call it H2. Oi know you don't, that's why I
- 5:12did. I know, OK, it's age 20, he
- 5:14directed that. OK, which I didn't hate.
- 5:17He directed a movie, Forever Young with Jamie Lee Curtis and
- 5:20Mel Gibson of. Course with the.
- 5:22Plane. That's right.
- 5:23There's a plane. Yeah.
- 5:24Lake Placid. Betty White.
- 5:26Yes, he directed that. The lesser Anaconda.
- 5:29That's right. And yeah, I directed this movie
- 5:33here. He tried.
- 5:36All right, there it is, coming in hot.
- 5:39Jest. I don't think you do.
- 5:40Yeah, I don't. But yeah, Steve Meyer directed
- 5:43it. Ron Kerz wrote it based on
- 5:44characters, of course, by Victor Miller, who wrote the first one.
- 5:47I would say the writing isn't it's strong suit, but I think
- 5:51the direction at times is OK. Yeah, just OK, It's OK.
- 5:55It's not. Brilliant but clever editing
- 5:57tricks. I thought overall was pretty.
- 5:59I don't have high expectations at this point, Phillip.
- 6:02After watching 8 Halloween movies roughly and watching
- 6:07Nightmare One watching Friday 13th, 1:00 and 2:00, I'm well
- 6:13aware of the waters in which I tread.
- 6:15That's right, and I do my best to taper my expectations.
- 6:19I think it's just established. I don't have any at all, sorry.
- 6:22Yeah, I think that's key. Yeah, that is key.
- 6:24I think that's the key. I think it's huge.
- 6:26We have this conversation I think we mentioned on Siskel and
- 6:29Ebert. It's one that I go back to all
- 6:31the time. Ebert and Siskel had an argument
- 6:35about Full Metal Jacket. Yes, absolutely.
- 6:38And Siskel gave it a thumbs up. Ebert gave it a thumbs down, but
- 6:42and later in the episode, Ebert gave a reboot of Lassie a thumbs
- 6:48up and Siskel just attacked him and saying like, what the fuck
- 6:52are you doing? You know Full Metal Jacket gets
- 6:54a thumbs down. This brilliant war movie, the
- 6:57Stanley Kubrick masterpiece. But a dog gets a thumbs up like.
- 7:01Hey, what's wrong with you? Yeah, and basically, Ebert says,
- 7:04because you're looking at them from two different perspectives,
- 7:06you can't hold one to the same account as another.
- 7:10So when I think about this movie and the movies that we're going
- 7:12to go in the future. Whose side are you on?
- 7:14To come in with the idea that this needs to be thoughtful or
- 7:19or cerebral in any capacity, or unique or clever, or whatever
- 7:24else. Doesn't need to be any of that.
- 7:25It doesn't necessarily now what it wants to do still needs to be
- 7:28done successfully and or not right.
- 7:32So if it doesn't deliver on the things that it's sort of set out
- 7:35to, then that's a problem. But to compare it to something
- 7:37like Citizen Kane or one for the Cuckoo's Nest or you know where
- 7:41you're looking at. I've never thoughts and and
- 7:43whatever else. It's just that this isn't going
- 7:45to be that movie. Have I ever done that?
- 7:47I probably. Yeah, probably, but I try not.
- 7:50To no for sure. When you say going in with low
- 7:52expectations, I think that's probably fair.
- 7:53Yeah, I think I still need to be entertained.
- 7:55Of course. I'm not saying I wasn't.
- 7:58It's supposed to have merit, right?
- 7:59Like it's supposed to be worth an hour and 25 minutes of your
- 8:01life. No glaring like errors that's.
- 8:06A movie, right? Like just laziness and things
- 8:09like that. If you put the effort into it,
- 8:11if you're a guy or a girl, if you're a human being and you
- 8:15want to make a horror film and you put the effort into it and
- 8:19we can see your effort, that's good.
- 8:21That's fine. Sure.
- 8:22It's when you just put together crap like Sharknado.
- 8:26Yeah, sure. And you know, I shouldn't say I
- 8:27haven't seen it, but you're you just put together something
- 8:30that's just obviously bad and you didn't even try to make it
- 8:34good. Sure.
- 8:34That's where I have a problem. I totally get it.
- 8:36And ultimately I don't know that this movie fits what paradigm
- 8:39we're just talking about because it is clearly a cash in.
- 8:42It's less than a year later that it's getting released.
- 8:44It's a lot of the same beats, right?
- 8:46So it may not have the merit that we're talking about, but to
- 8:50expect something above what it is doing is a challenge because
- 8:55it's not going to reach any of those heights.
- 8:57So let's do that and we'll get into sort of what I think is
- 9:00interesting about the comparison, interesting for
- 9:03better, for worse, about the comparison between this and the
- 9:08Halloween movies that that we've watched in the past.
- 9:11Absolutely, yeah. I'd be worried if we didn't make
- 9:13a few comparisons. Going to be a couple.
- 9:15There has to be. Yeah, this comes to the
- 9:17territory. It's in the contract, David.
- 9:19Let's just do a little change of pace here.
- 9:20Why don't you tell me what this movie is about?
- 9:23Five years after the events of the first film, a summer camp
- 9:28next to the infamous Camp Crystal Lake is preparing to
- 9:31open. But the legend of Jason is
- 9:34weighing heavy on the pro seedings.
- 9:39I had to hit more, see what I it was pro dot dot dot.
- 9:44And that's all that was left. You're telling me you couldn't
- 9:45squeeze seedings into that somehow make your font a little
- 9:50bit, I don't know, get. Your shit together IMDb.
- 9:53Nonetheless, that encapsulates what happens, what it is, what
- 9:57this the essence of this film, really.
- 10:00Yeah, it is weighing heavy. Jason is weighing heavy.
- 10:02He is heavy. I don't think he actually is
- 10:04weighing heavy at all. The Jason thing isn't
- 10:07established enough for it to weigh heavy.
- 10:09I actually disagree with this synopsis.
- 10:11Jeez. OK, all right.
- 10:12No, that's no OK. I mean, if you think about it
- 10:15right, they have a couple of conversations about him out of
- 10:18folklore and legend. Legend, you're right.
- 10:20He's not legend yet. But he's nobody to be worried
- 10:23about. They're opening the camp.
- 10:25Other than Crazy Ralph, no one seems to have any real trouble.
- 10:28There's not a skepticism or anything around it.
- 10:30That's true. They had one night, 10 people
- 10:33died. Sure, it was five years ago.
- 10:36It's not even our camp. It's over.
- 10:37There, it's right there. Next door.
- 10:40So I don't really think it's weighing too heavily on the on
- 10:42the proceedings. It's just 300 meters away,
- 10:44exactly same lake. Different different locale.
- 10:47Same lake. Let's be clear about that all.
- 10:49Right. That's right.
- 10:50All right. Well, regardless, that's what
- 10:52we're dealing with. Here we are, yeah.
- 10:55Yeah, but of course, before we get to the camp, let's spend 15
- 11:01minutes with the original Friday.
- 11:04We start with a character named Jesse.
- 11:06Did you catch that? No.
- 11:08I got some detailed notes here. You're really digging deep.
- 11:11I wrote down Jesse, didn't notice someone right beside him.
- 11:14I thought the same thing. OK good you're not gonna cuz I
- 11:17know sometimes you've been known to turn a blind eye of.
- 11:21Course, that's the Spielberg type of thing for me, where it's
- 11:23sort of like not on the screen doesn't happen.
- 11:25There's the T Rex. Yeah, yeah.
- 11:27Well, but I find interesting I. Don't care too much.
- 11:29Before we get to that, I'm not out yet.
- 11:31Yeah, I wondered about this idea that we have established this as
- 11:36a horror movie. It's a gore movie.
- 11:38It's a slasher film and opening with a child singing itsy bitsy
- 11:42spider walking down the street in the puddle.
- 11:45Did you think the kids going to get it?
- 11:47No, I was more curious to why he wasn't wearing proper footwear
- 11:52if. You're going to go splashing.
- 11:53You wear your. Boots.
- 11:53You don't? Yeah, 'cause it's not fun to get
- 11:56wet feet, even as a child. This kid loves it.
- 11:58I know he's an idiot. He probably should have died.
- 12:01Deserved it. Yeah, but unfortunately, Jason's
- 12:05just scoping out the town. Yeah, yeah.
- 12:08We're going to talk a little bit about that too.
- 12:09Yeah, I don't know. I didn't know he was a scoper
- 12:12but. He scopes.
- 12:13He scopes. Yeah, his mom scoped so I mean.
- 12:17He uses scope. That's right.
- 12:18I use Listerine. I don't know what you're using,
- 12:21clearly nothing, But yeah, it sets up the beginning of the
- 12:25movie. Before we even start, do you
- 12:28come in with any knowledge? So the last thing we saw, the
- 12:31last thing in Friday the 13th, how could I forget, is
- 12:35memorable. Somebody, something.
- 12:38The boy in the lake pulls Alice out of the canoe.
- 12:43Out of the boat. Which one is it, canoe or boat?
- 12:45It's a floating device on the water.
- 12:47Did you even watch? Friday, the original.
- 12:49So recently when we watched the first one, I think you
- 12:52understood Jason. Friday the 13th being the same.
- 12:54And then we realized, of course, that it's mother is the one that
- 12:57kills everybody in the first movie, so.
- 13:00Yeah, Misses Voorhees, which is an old friend of the Christie's.
- 13:03That's right. That's key.
- 13:05Now it's a year later to you. What is Jason right?
- 13:09They're trying to tell you now that a grown man is walking on
- 13:14the street in some unknown city stalking Alice at any point.
- 13:19Does that cause what the fuck is happening?
- 13:22Moments. Questions.
- 13:23You know, it's weird because I think I've watched so much
- 13:25Halloween. I'm just used to a guy.
- 13:28Yeah. Foaming around, stalking people
- 13:30in a small town. Sure.
- 13:32So I'm used to the shots of legs.
- 13:34So it felt completely natural. Obviously Jason is known to me.
- 13:39Yes. It was his mother in the first
- 13:40one. Clearly, this is Jason.
- 13:42And yeah, so no real surprise. I found it upsetting.
- 13:46Not upsetting because I came to this movie much later into the
- 13:50series. I had already seen a couple of
- 13:51other ones prior to going back to this.
- 13:53Got you. But the idea of the jump from
- 13:56Part 1 where there is a ghost like situation in the water, did
- 14:02it happen, did it not? Happen.
- 14:03That's true. And he's dead, according to his
- 14:06mother, drowning 58 because no one was watching him.
- 14:11And now it's a year later in real life, it's a few months
- 14:16later in. Yeah, a few months I believe.
- 14:18In movie life, movie time, and there's a grown man walking
- 14:23around some strange town, not the forests.
- 14:25Does he have the bag on his head when he's walking around this
- 14:28town stalking out? Why are you so critical of these
- 14:31movies, Phil? Just enjoy it.
- 14:33I think it's really. Really funny to me, this is,
- 14:36there's a lot of things that I accept in these movies that's
- 14:38funny without any question. And I just sort of go with it.
- 14:41And once this movie gets knowing, I actually don't have
- 14:43any problems with that kind of thing.
- 14:45Sure. But right away I just
- 14:47immediately thinking, this doesn't make sense, not to the
- 14:50point where I'm out, but I'm just like, huh?
- 14:53Is he walking around town with a bag on his?
- 14:55Head That's funny, because I had full recollection of what
- 14:58happened in the original. Yeah, because it was only a few
- 15:00months ago and it was pretty memorable.
- 15:01Yeah, it didn't bother me at all.
- 15:03Such a strange thing. That is strange.
- 15:05I missed that one. You get the music, Sting as he
- 15:07steps in the puddle when Jesse gets called away.
- 15:10Yeah, and we get Alice, who's experiencing a night terror.
- 15:15She does very good. Nightmare acting.
- 15:18Yeah, yeah. Did you remember her from the
- 15:21first movie? Like did you connect the dots
- 15:23that this was a survivor? Once I saw her in the.
- 15:26Flashback, flashback. OK, Yeah.
- 15:28It was clear as day, clear as day.
- 15:30I thought, I thought she's good. Yeah.
- 15:32I think the scene goes on too long.
- 15:35The flashback scene, the dream sequence.
- 15:36She's like writhing around on the bed for a long time.
- 15:40We've seen his feet, he's across the street from this house, and
- 15:43yet we have what feels like 7 minutes of flashback nightmare.
- 15:47I think they really want to showcase her nightmare acting.
- 15:51I think that's what it was. I mean, it's a full 15 before we
- 15:54get into it. It's certainly a little bit on
- 15:56the lengthy side. I don't think we need a full
- 15:59rocky situation here. Like, I don't think we need to
- 16:01see all of that. If I'm going to this movie, it's
- 16:04been less than a year since I've seen.
- 16:05It I think we could have got to the beheading quicker.
- 16:08Yeah, it's like the kind of culmination, because that's all
- 16:10it is, right? Like you don't need to see all
- 16:11the other stuff. Now when she's clearly going
- 16:15through something. She's talking to her parents.
- 16:17This is what she needs. I just need some time on my own.
- 16:20She. Needs to be alone.
- 16:21That's what you want. Makes perfect sense.
- 16:24And she takes a shower, of course.
- 16:27Why wouldn't you? Here's the question I have You
- 16:29ever had cats? Yeah, you know, I've had.
- 16:31Cats I know, do they ever jump out a window because this cat,
- 16:36when she's doing the tour, this cat seems to basically be like
- 16:39thrown into the apartment. What's funny about pets in
- 16:42horror movies? The general rule that I've seen
- 16:45is cats are there for the jump scares.
- 16:48Yeah, and dogs are there to die. Oh, that is true.
- 16:52Yeah. Think about it.
- 16:53Yeah, Michael Martin killed a dog.
- 16:55Yeah. Yeah.
- 16:56Wasn't. Cujo a real problem?
- 16:57Absolutely. I love that movie.
- 16:59Yes, yes. I just thought about that in
- 17:01that moment. True, but I've had no cats like
- 17:04that in that situation. It's always saved the cat too.
- 17:07That's like a screen writing trick.
- 17:08Save the cat. Yeah.
- 17:09No ones, no ones thinking about the dog.
- 17:11How you take them from granted, Yeah.
- 17:12Fascinating. Certainly in this movie too.
- 17:14But I still get the sense that someone's around that she's
- 17:17being like, you know what? You get that camera shot where
- 17:19it's following her. Yeah, but it's not anybody.
- 17:22Yes, it's just loading. Yeah, it's just following.
- 17:25But wants to make you think that.
- 17:27Totally. So I figured something is up.
- 17:29I was really curious to see if they were going to kill her.
- 17:34Yeah. I was hoping not.
- 17:36Because you liked her. Well, I didn't like her.
- 17:38Like her. Like romantically sure, but she
- 17:40was a fine lady and I really appreciated the old fridge and
- 17:47stove. That yellowish colour that was
- 17:49big back in the day. Totally.
- 17:51I wasn't a big fan of what was inside the fridge though.
- 17:55That was a head. It was a head, yeah.
- 17:57So just before she ultimately it's.
- 18:00The ice pick in the in. The yeah, temple, that's fine.
- 18:04Wasn't the temple. It was the temple.
- 18:05Was the temple. It's tough to get through that
- 18:07bone. Yeah, but Jason's strong.
- 18:09He's been, he's been weight training, Yeah.
- 18:11Yeah, in the lake. Living off the land.
- 18:14Living off the land. Whose head was that?
- 18:18I was hoping you'd ask. I watched it twice.
- 18:20I'm like, I still don't know whose head that is.
- 18:22So what if I was to tell you that that head I believe is
- 18:27meant to be Mrs. Voorhees head? That was my only thought.
- 18:31He carries it around. This is the thing.
- 18:33So if we're taking that as logic, that that is now his
- 18:36mother's head. He is wandering around from
- 18:39Crystal Lake, wherever that is in New Jersey, to whatever small
- 18:42town this is beside Jesse, a bag head and carrying in a knapsack,
- 18:48maybe his mother's head, and then puts it in the fridge to
- 18:53startle this woman, kills her, does the decent thing, which I
- 18:57do appreciate, taking the kettle off of the stove.
- 19:00Oh, did he? Oh, that's.
- 19:01Good. I didn't want to draw attention
- 19:03I guess. Fair enough.
- 19:04And then presumably packs up that head, brings it back to
- 19:10Crystal Lake, back to his shed, because it plays pretty
- 19:13prominently at the end of the movie as well.
- 19:16You know, it's funny, the only thing I didn't buy was him
- 19:19phoning her. That's right, that's another
- 19:22thing. Like, I don't think Jason's
- 19:23picking up a phone. No, I think that's just done.
- 19:26Yeah, because you have to have the phone bit.
- 19:28That's right. The phone could ring and if the
- 19:31power can go out in the middle of that, right, like you're
- 19:33having a conversation and then it's hey, wait, the phone went.
- 19:36Yeah, he would unplug the. Yeah, he would.
- 19:38But this is he's actually seemingly dialing the phone.
- 19:42You would have to have 1/4, yes. And I don't buy that Jason has a
- 19:45quarter. I buy more than he has a head in
- 19:48a knapsack wandering around town.
- 19:51Then I do him having a quarter. It's shocking, Yeah.
- 19:53Yeah, so this 1st 15 I find really, really tough, which is
- 19:58really strange because I genuinely from that moment
- 20:01onward, I'm actually pretty connected to this movie.
- 20:04Well, I appreciate you not being incredibly forgiving in this
- 20:07instance. In general, forgiving is a good.
- 20:09Exactly. Good quality.
- 20:10But but yeah, generally speaking, I, I think it's trying
- 20:13to reset, I believe reset the table to what Jason will be
- 20:18because up until this point, again, the last villain we knew
- 20:21was a mother. I always got her head cub to cut
- 20:24off and I kind of forgot about that.
- 20:25Like I knew that. That her head got cut.
- 20:27Off No, I just, I just knew she was the villain.
- 20:29Yeah, but for me she was Jason in a weird way.
- 20:32Yeah, we take Jason as like Kleenex, right?
- 20:35Like he's just that's he's just, oh, ubiquitous.
- 20:37He's around. So this movie has a tall ask to
- 20:40me to try and explain this little kid in the water now
- 20:44being a grown man with a severed head and a bag on his head,
- 20:48right? Like that's a what?
- 20:49This doesn't make any sense, but once I think the movie does a
- 20:52good job by clearing that up and killing Alice and sort of having
- 20:55a a bit of a gross out scene for some reason.
- 20:58At that point it like resets for me.
- 21:01OK, and the credits go and now I'm like, OK, we're a can't pack
- 21:04an act. You're with it.
- 21:05I'm with it for whatever happens.
- 21:06And that was true even back in the old days when I first saw
- 21:09it. It just suck to survive all of
- 21:11that just to die, yeah, a couple months later.
- 21:15You know what I mean? In that way, Like if it's
- 21:18something else, you get hit by a bus, OK, still sucks.
- 21:22But to somehow avoid all of that and survive?
- 21:26That's a tough pill to swallow. That's for sure.
- 21:30And just before we get into the movie, I I this vague
- 21:33recollection of the original Friday 13th one.
- 21:38It was glass breaking to kind of get the credits rolling.
- 21:41Yes, yes, the title came in. Smashed the glass.
- 21:44I like that one. This one, yeah.
- 21:46You don't like it. The big explosion that happens,
- 21:49it's bigger, it's better. It's a year later.
- 21:51We're ready. We're up in the ante.
- 21:53I think you know how I feel about that.
- 21:55Not into it. Not into it, but I'm ready.
- 21:57I'm ready to get into it. I'm ready to meet the new crew.
- 22:01All right. Well, Jeff and Sandra, a couple
- 22:03of newbies for you. New blood.
- 22:05Looks like they have 1/4, yeah. They do have 1/4.
- 22:09They're in a phone booth with Colin Farrell.
- 22:13I like Sandra. I bet you do.
- 22:16And I'll tell you right now, please, we are not going to see
- 22:18her breasts. You knew that going.
- 22:20I knew we were going to see breasts OK, but I know they're
- 22:23not going to be hers. Why is that?
- 22:25What about? It I just know it's a certain
- 22:27style, a certain type of breast. Yeah, they do not show.
- 22:31All right, I'm not complaining about the ones they do show and
- 22:34I'm not even saying that I need to see it, sure, but I just know
- 22:38from experience these are these are off limits which I'm used
- 22:44to. Sure.
- 22:44I'm used to, you know. Yeah, what if I was to tell you
- 22:47that there was a deleted scene where they were shown?
- 22:52I would need that footage. Yeah, what if I was to tell you
- 22:57that the reason that footage is not seen is it because it came
- 23:00out later that she was 17? Oh, at the time you set me up,
- 23:05you set me up. This doesn't change the facts.
- 23:08They're good. Boobs.
- 23:09Facts are facts, and when we're dealing with a movie like this,
- 23:12we want to deal in facts. 100% So yes, that Sandra and I agree
- 23:16that they're probably real and they're spectacular.
- 23:22We get the old guy again, Crazy Ralph with the same warning.
- 23:27That's it. I told them they're all doomed.
- 23:30Yeah, it's nice to see him in the roster update.
- 23:32Still there. Yeah, that's right.
- 23:33No one listens to Crazy Ralph. Well, it's not the most
- 23:37credible. That's the problem.
- 23:39But I mean, everything he said, the last movie did happen.
- 23:42So I think he's actually, he's got some credibility, but no one
- 23:45believes him anyway. We get the voyeur Cam shot.
- 23:49Yeah, traditional. This movie you'll see, I think
- 23:53does hit a lot of the same beats as the original.
- 23:57Let's not dance around that fact.
- 23:59What I was really excited about, had you chosen Nightmare, was
- 24:02the variety of and the imagination and the ingenuity of
- 24:07some of the kills. Yeah, 'cause you have the whole
- 24:09dream thing that really allows. For that, open up some some fun
- 24:12kind of bigger playground. What happens here, though I love
- 24:16it, is that you're limited in general, at least in these early
- 24:20movies, to what you can really kind of do.
- 24:23I don't want surprises. No, not in these types of
- 24:26movies. Tested right, you just kind of
- 24:27go with it. So the the tropes like you're
- 24:29saying the stalker Cam is he there is he not?
- 24:32You know that kind of stuff you're never going to get away
- 24:35from in that sort of slasher genre.
- 24:38So I think it's done well enough in this.
- 24:40And there's always the Euckler issues.
- 24:43You remember the first one? She needed to hitch a ride.
- 24:46Yes, this time the vehicle gets towed.
- 24:49Yeah, yeah. But that's just an elaborate
- 24:51prank. Oh, by Ted.
- 24:52Ted the Prankster. All right, let's talk about Ted.
- 24:56It's Ted Talk. What a goofy guy.
- 24:57He's totally goofy. I love his look.
- 24:59Yeah, pretty dorky I'm. Looking forward to his death.
- 25:02Yeah, yeah, this is the guy that dies.
- 25:04Yeah. And that's part of the fun in
- 25:05this movie, if I can call it fun, is you have your ensemble.
- 25:09Yeah, and you think who's going to die, Who may not, and in
- 25:14which order? And how?
- 25:16Which is kind of. Fun to me as well.
- 25:18How is your world? That's my sickness.
- 25:20More of just the just do it in a nice orderly fashion, OK, Nice
- 25:24and clean. Nice and clean.
- 25:27Limited blood. Speaking of butts, did I say
- 25:31butts? You did now.
- 25:36We get a scene at the campground, yeah, of a woman
- 25:40with a really nice butt. Yes.
- 25:43Terry. Terry's butt.
- 25:44Look like Ally Larder's. Yes.
- 25:47Fresh from last week, Yeah. Had the same hips.
- 25:50Like walking away. Yeah.
- 25:51Same sway. You put two lockers next to her
- 25:54and you're kind of like, I know this with the scene.
- 25:55Yeah, OK. Absolutely.
- 25:58Yeah, it's a good, but it's a good.
- 25:59But, and Scott's a pervert. Absolutely, for sure.
- 26:03Well, at this point he's just playful.
- 26:04Yeah, later. He's a.
- 26:05Pervert. Yeah, he's a pervert because
- 26:06they're not together. That's right, yeah.
- 26:08You just sees an ass and wants a piece.
- 26:10And you have to have your traditional slingshot in an 80s
- 26:13movie of. Course, absolutely.
- 26:14Now I wonder just if we can suck.
- 26:16Just generally, if you can compare and remember what the
- 26:19first movie was. What are your thoughts on this
- 26:21cast of characters? We won't get into specifics,
- 26:23just generally are you more or less excited about what's what's
- 26:27being presented here? Are they good looking?
- 26:31Are they good looking but also just like in terms of character
- 26:34and so? Forth good actors.
- 26:35Anything yet? Like, are you killable?
- 26:37Yeah. I would say it's not a step
- 26:40backwards. Yeah, OK.
- 26:42I think more of them right right off the.
- 26:43Bat Yeah, that has me wondering how many kills we're going to
- 26:46see. But later, we'll fix that
- 26:49problem. We'll get the talent.
- 26:50Too much disappointment on who we don't get to see die, Ted.
- 26:55But I I would say we're at the very least on par.
- 26:58Yeah. OK.
- 26:59My recollection of all the faces from the original have
- 27:01dissipated. Of course, Missus Voorhies has
- 27:04has lingered. A dream sequence to help that
- 27:06one. Exactly.
- 27:07That was about it. My thoughts on this were
- 27:10immediately, I like these people, and I don't know that I
- 27:14really felt I like these people with anybody in the first one.
- 27:16OK, so there was something about this particular group of people
- 27:20more. Personality you.
- 27:21Know it wasn't just like, you know, she's cute, she's not
- 27:23whatever. But there's maybe more
- 27:25personalities, more defining feature.
- 27:27Maybe wheelchair. Wheelchair is clear, like Mike
- 27:30is a character, Mark is character, but I found the girls
- 27:35to also have like somewhat distinct, if not personalities,
- 27:40physicalities, so that yeah, they're all.
- 27:42Unique to each other. Yeah, and even Scott, like, has
- 27:46a look and has a sort of vibe about him, creepy as it is.
- 27:49Sorry, you've lost all credibility.
- 27:50But identifiable in ways that I don't think the first one really
- 27:55did. Yeah, OK.
- 27:55I'm with you. And certainly Amy Steele is one
- 27:57of my favorite. She's popular in every
- 28:00iteration. She's probably one of the the
- 28:02highlights of this whole. Series.
- 28:03I read some reviews. I do that sometimes.
- 28:06You know that? Yeah, it took me a while to find
- 28:09a 10, but not as long as it should have.
- 28:12But one guy just raved about her.
- 28:14Yeah, I don't think she's amazing.
- 28:16She's fine, but I think she's really good in this role and
- 28:18she's also really pretty obviously, which helps.
- 28:20She's actually my fourth favorite in terms of.
- 28:23This movie 4th. Favorite in terms of who I want
- 28:26to date? OK, All right, fascinating.
- 28:29Let's get to the bottom of that. On the men's side of things,
- 28:32young Jeff Daniels, that's right.
- 28:34Are you with me on that? Yes, I see it.
- 28:36At first, when you said it, I I didn't.
- 28:38But now that I've sat with it for a minute, yeah, I see it.
- 28:41OK, good. I like it.
- 28:42He's charismatic. He's a good leading man.
- 28:44I like Steve Christie from the first movie.
- 28:46This guy is capable. Feels kind of of a piece like
- 28:50with the group. There's a bit of an attitude I
- 28:53like too. Yeah, he's a little smug, yeah,
- 28:55but also kind of dismissive and knowing that it's kind of a
- 28:58bullshit job, but it's their job and they're here and let's take
- 29:01it seriously. Steve Christie, if you remember,
- 29:03is just kind of a old creep where Paul's got a good vibe
- 29:07about him and he makes a joke that, you know, it's like, if my
- 29:09only my staff could get here, he can start the process and that
- 29:13lets Ginny show up. Which doesn't make sense to me
- 29:16because what he says is what the hell?
- 29:19You're wondering where your help is, And then when they show up
- 29:22you're like, what the hell, I think.
- 29:24What? What the hell took you so long?
- 29:26That's not the impression I got. He's like, what the Hell's going
- 29:28on? Oh, no, no, that's your help.
- 29:30No, no, that's the time. No, no, no, no.
- 29:32Check the tape. You're a Time guy.
- 29:33You should recognize he's late. He's like, what the hell?
- 29:35Where were you? No.
- 29:36No, see, that's that's my point. The way he enunciated each of
- 29:40those words. OK, what the hell was like, what
- 29:42is going on? I don't know what's happening
- 29:44here. Oh, I see.
- 29:46OK, just said where's my help? And now they're showing up and
- 29:49you clearly know that that person is your help because it's
- 29:52Ginny and you have a thing with you're dating her or there's
- 29:55something going on between the sheets.
- 29:57That's right. But she establishes the car
- 29:59doesn't work. And I think that obviously in
- 30:02these kinds of movies is important to lay the groundwork
- 30:05early that this car might be a problem.
- 30:07They also mentioned that bears are dangerous, which apparently
- 30:10back in the 80s people thought bears aren't dangerous.
- 30:13That some bears aren't. Yeah, Berenstein.
- 30:17Yeah, that Fire Marshall one Paddington, Yeah.
- 30:21But generally, yes, sure. Yeah.
- 30:24Anyways, he also utters the you know, keep yourself clean.
- 30:28Yeah, that's a thing. There's a a moment a little bit
- 30:30later that after they've slept together and she wakes up, I
- 30:34believe, and there's a note either on the window or the
- 30:36mirror or something that reads beware of the bears or look out
- 30:39for the bears. And I wonder if that means she
- 30:43is on her period. Maybe.
- 30:46Basically like clean up after yourself is what I interpret
- 30:49that note to read, and I thought it was kind of crass.
- 30:52Are you thinking anal? No, no.
- 30:56I just think maybe she's on it, you know, maybe the the period
- 30:59is happening. It's.
- 30:59Possible anyway, just thought you'd check the calendar.
- 31:02Bear talk, you know, it's like, be aware of it.
- 31:04Clean up after yourself. We just had sex.
- 31:06Clean up after yourself. Maybe there was a little
- 31:07bleeding spotting. Perhaps.
- 31:09Could be could. Be I don't think we're really
- 31:11qualified to talk about this, no.
- 31:12I think this probably hopefully won't see the light of.
- 31:15Day. Well, it wouldn't be a horror
- 31:24movie without a campfire story. Yeah, yeah, here it is.
- 31:28One of my favorite scenes. Paul's the leader.
- 31:31Yep. So he's going to tell a tale
- 31:33around a fire. Yeah, he's gonna talk about
- 31:37Jason, the legend of Jason. Did you notice Ted wasn't there?
- 31:41No, Me neither. Did you think?
- 31:42Anyone else did? No, it doesn't matter.
- 31:44A lot of people there, so I don't think so.
- 31:46Do you like the story? I love the story.
- 31:48Does it do it like justice? I think ultimately there's a
- 31:52couple of times where this movie tries to explain Jason and the
- 31:56legacy and what it could be and what it isn't.
- 31:58And I think, again, you have to do that for this movie because
- 32:01there's no reason for this person to be a thing.
- 32:04Jason doesn't exist in the first one other than, as I said, a
- 32:06child that drowned. Yeah, which may or may not even
- 32:09have happened. Here is a figment of her
- 32:11imagination. Absolutely we don't.
- 32:13Right. So he's talking about the story,
- 32:14Jason. He's still out there.
- 32:15He's demented, you know, as he he's full grown by now, living
- 32:20off of wild animals and vegetation and talking about how
- 32:24Alice is gone. He probably saw his mother
- 32:27beheaded that night. Revenge to anyone who comes into
- 32:30his wilderness makes sense. I found this story to be.
- 32:34Excellent, really connects all the dots.
- 32:36Yeah, and then he talks about how it's been five years, we're
- 32:39the first camp to come back, and then Ted jumps out.
- 32:43I love the scene. I found the delivery of it to be
- 32:45so, for lack of a better term, sincere.
- 32:48I don't know if you caught that, but like, this is a movie that
- 32:51is. When I've used that word but.
- 32:52Fundamentally silly, right? Like let's just call it what it
- 32:55is. But it's a real moment.
- 32:56But that delivery is like, I buy it.
- 32:59Paul's good. And his delivery of it, I
- 33:00thought was intense enough to kind of lock in, and as a
- 33:04result, I jumped or jostled when Ted jumped out.
- 33:08I was caught up in it. I don't even think Ted needed
- 33:10the mask. No, certainly.
- 33:13You know what I mean. Yeah, totally.
- 33:14Did you find yourself caught up in that at all?
- 33:16Were you kind of engaged whatsoever in that tale?
- 33:18I recognize it as being a solid story that helped explain Jason,
- 33:25which I think the movie needed after what you just said at the
- 33:29beginning of this film. Yeah, I think it does a good
- 33:30job. It's similar to the first movie.
- 33:34They move indoors. Yeah.
- 33:35No Monopoly. No.
- 33:37Not this time. Not this time.
- 33:39We have Scott. Let's talk about Scott first.
- 33:42If you, if I could, please, would you mind?
- 33:44By all means, go ahead. He wants someone to dance with.
- 33:48Yeah. And he ends up dancing with the
- 33:49dog. Yes, that's what's he's left
- 33:51with. Muffin.
- 33:52Muffin. Yep.
- 33:53You ever danced with a dog, Phillip?
- 33:55No. Good, I don't want to touch a
- 33:57dog but alone dance with one. It's kind of funny, so I'm not
- 34:00out on Scott yet. Because he's dancing with the
- 34:03dog. I think it's cute.
- 34:04OK, yeah, he's not perv yet to. Me.
- 34:06I don't know what he's doing with that dog.
- 34:07I. Didn't see any peanut butter
- 34:10later round. The only thing that didn't make
- 34:13sense to me in this movie that's not true.
- 34:15There's a lot of there's a few things I'm not sure there's
- 34:17we're still young. I meant in this scene is Ginny.
- 34:20It's not Jenny. No, it's.
- 34:21Ginny, Ginny. She wins at chess because she
- 34:25she's a psychologist. Yeah, she's smart.
- 34:26She is smart. Paul thinks she's got her.
- 34:28And doesn't matter. And then she's like, I'm going
- 34:31to bed. Yep, she's gonna invite him up
- 34:33for coffee. You know that little hasty just
- 34:36to leave like that? There's obviously a leave behind
- 34:38because he ends up coming in with her.
- 34:40Yeah, somehow he gets in there. Oh, he gets in there.
- 34:44He gets in there. We have a little jump scare.
- 34:46Yes, we do a fake. One.
- 34:48Mm Hmm. You gotta have a fake one, Phil.
- 34:50Yeah, before we have the real. One, yeah, there's often that
- 34:52like pressure release and then that's when you.
- 34:54Get We need a cat. Where's the cat?
- 34:56Paul's the cat they kiss, which is nice.
- 35:00Then they make up for a bit. No one needs to know.
- 35:02No one needs to know. Of course not unprofessional.
- 35:04That's right. Have some respect.
- 35:06Yeah, and like the first movie, Crazy Ralph.
- 35:09Ends up at the camp just like staying around I think.
- 35:11He's trying to do a good thing. Yeah, it's a thick tree.
- 35:14Yeah, a lot of GERD who's. To say what could be on the
- 35:17other side of it. Barbed wire.
- 35:19Yeah, yeah. Go rotting.
- 35:21Yeah. I like barbed wire.
- 35:23I grew up in the country, a lot of barbed wire, sure, and around
- 35:26never used for this, obviously. Any crazy Ralphs?
- 35:28Anybody take care of any silences?
- 35:30Yeah, there was a few. This is our first kill.
- 35:34Yeah, yeah, yeah, I'm. Excited of the new crew. 30
- 35:36minutes into the movie. 30 minutes in, is that a problem?
- 35:39No, because if you remember the first one, it's similar.
- 35:41We get, Is that a hitchhiker? Pretty quickly, Yeah.
- 35:44But after that, you set the table.
- 35:46Everybody kind of has their things.
- 35:47Yeah, So I was fine with it. The trajectory of it kind of
- 35:50leads me in the right. Direction.
- 35:51Like I said in the original Halloween, same thing.
- 35:53The tension, although done much better, Sure, but I don't mind
- 35:57waiting a little while for the first kill.
- 35:59And here we have it. What do you think of it?
- 36:01Tame. Be honest, tame.
- 36:03But I love that it's crazy Ralph getting it because like Alice
- 36:06earlier, it's like you don't really want to see a lot of
- 36:08people hanging around. Tying up the loose ends.
- 36:11A little bit. So the fact that he gets to kill
- 36:13him, I'm like, yeah, that makes sense.
- 36:14He'd want too much money for the next one anyway.
- 36:16That's right. Exactly.
- 36:18I thought it was a pretty good kill.
- 36:19I would have liked it to last a little longer, but that's just
- 36:22me. That's that is not just.
- 36:24You. But between the two of us, it's
- 36:26just you. Certainly certain about
- 36:27comparison? Absolutely.
- 36:29So we're out on the trails, but you do, as you know, when you go
- 36:31to camp, you're taking the walks, jaunts, so forth, lots of
- 36:35trails, walk down to the beach, all these sort of realities.
- 36:39And we get Muffin making herself known.
- 36:41And there's a sequence where she kind of runs off on her own.
- 36:45And the implication is, in this moment, she finds Jason.
- 36:49Yeah, you see the legs? You see the legs, you see the
- 36:51legs and then hard cut hot dogs. That's saying something.
- 36:55That's clever. It's saying something, yeah.
- 36:58The implication to me, obviously, is the dog is dead.
- 37:00Yes, that's correct. Which we established earlier,
- 37:02which is further proven in a couple minutes when Jeff and
- 37:06Sandra very good decide that they're really hot to trot on
- 37:10this Camp Crystal Lake. I'm going to correct you right
- 37:13there. Please.
- 37:13Jeff is not. Jeff is less.
- 37:15It's all Sandra. Yeah, she's trotting.
- 37:17She basically has to call him a coward.
- 37:19It's true. Chicken.
- 37:20Yeah. Yellow.
- 37:21Yeah. And then on the way, we see the
- 37:25dog. Yeah, what we assume is the dog,
- 37:27right? Looks exactly.
- 37:28Like looks like gutted and eaten pretty fresh.
- 37:31Everything short of the name tag that says muffin.
- 37:34Yeah, that's right. Yeah.
- 37:35Uh huh. Let's put let's put a pin in
- 37:36this. Yeah, exactly.
- 37:37That's a little. That's a tab we're gonna leave
- 37:39open for the time. Being here, stay to the end.
- 37:41Stay to the end. They get caught by a police
- 37:46officer, a man of the law. That's right.
- 37:48It wouldn't be the movie without that.
- 37:51What's funny about that? We talked about this in the
- 37:53first movie that Sean Cunningham and Victor Miller both said if
- 37:57they had one regret of the first movie, it's that they should
- 37:59never have had the cop show. Up and yeah.
- 38:03And then now it's Part 2. Now granted, those two people
- 38:05aren't involved in this movie other than its producer, but you
- 38:09got to bring in the cop. Again, Like the whole point is
- 38:10that you should be isolated and yet.
- 38:12It's that need to bring in the police.
- 38:14The illusion of safety, the cops, they'll save the day so
- 38:18much. So this movie continues to do a
- 38:20good job. Here's a compliment of
- 38:23duplicating the first one. Totally fair.
- 38:27I'm getting some Jaws too vibes. Sure, absolutely.
- 38:30Yeah, find that formula and run it out.
- 38:31But what it does do is give Paul an opportunity to share that
- 38:35some of that smugness we talked about in the beginning, he gets
- 38:39a little smug with the cop. That's right, because he's not
- 38:42reprimanding. No desserts not.
- 38:44Don't say there's no reprimands. That's true, but you don't get
- 38:47dessert. Man.
- 38:47Did that score some points with Jenny?
- 38:49Absolutely. See the look he got?
- 38:50Oh. Yeah, yeah, he's doing just
- 38:52fine. You're.
- 38:52Smug with a cop sealed that deal.
- 38:55What I find most interesting that does deviate is the cop is
- 39:00on his way back and we see a glimpse.
- 39:04Really. We see him.
- 39:06It's a glimpse, no. Yeah, but it's clearly.
- 39:08Oh sure, A human being with a bag on his head of.
- 39:10Course, but it's a glimpse is what I'm trying to say here.
- 39:14It darted through it was a glimpse OK it's a glimpse and
- 39:17the cop not knowing better chases after him.
- 39:20I found this chase sequence quote UN quote to be a little
- 39:23slow my. God, really slow because the
- 39:25cop's fat, yes. I mean, he's not Billy Bob
- 39:27level, but there you. Go the chase comes out.
- 39:29You said that with a lot of anger.
- 39:32It was just vitriol, David. It wasn't a very good.
- 39:34Sometimes it's genetics, OK? This guy's a good man.
- 39:37He's got family. Yeah, it's not the Donuts.
- 39:40You don't know anything about this guy's diet.
- 39:42He's a police officer. Wow.
- 39:45Stereotyping. Wow.
- 39:46I know I did it. Bold.
- 39:48I don't feel good about it. I don't feel good about myself
- 39:51either way. Regardless.
- 39:53Regardless, the chase ensues. He runs out of breath for a
- 39:58moment. Yeah.
- 39:59I don't know. Can we just do a little better
- 40:01editing on that? Yeah, I find that for a movie
- 40:04that is an hour, 26 and 15 minutes of it is the first movie
- 40:09set up. This scene I thought was just
- 40:10like wow this is long, unnecessarily so, but luckily it
- 40:13ends the right way. I like the fact that we find
- 40:16Jason's home. Yeah, talk to me about that.
- 40:19I wanted to hear your your kind of thoughts on.
- 40:21It's what you would expect it to be for a man of the woods, Sure
- 40:25as. Paul described it earlier.
- 40:27This is appropriate for the guy that's been living off of, Yeah.
- 40:30And they don't reveal too much. In playing the front at the 13th
- 40:35video game well, the most recent one you can find while you're
- 40:38hiding or running away from Jason to the shed.
- 40:41Wow yeah, it would alert Jason to your presence there and okay,
- 40:45you could grab a couple of other supplies and then use it to kill
- 40:47him and stuff. It was really cool.
- 40:49Sounds like fun. It's a great game.
- 40:50It's really certainly once you see more of these movies, you'll
- 40:52really, yeah, you'll you'll would have picked up on a lot of
- 40:56the geographical, well, just the level of detail, right, like
- 40:59camp pack and act, which is where this one is, is one of the
- 41:02levels you can play. So they've got a basically like
- 41:04an exact replica of this camp. It's really cool.
- 41:07I do like attention to detail. Yeah, it's really impressive.
- 41:10Speaking of attention to detail, actually, I wonder if you caught
- 41:13or noticed or cared. No, that there was a curtain by
- 41:20the toilet. Like as if this guy, this man
- 41:24beast thing that cares enough to living alone in the shed.
- 41:28Yeah, I don't. Presumably not near anybody for
- 41:31miles. So has to pee.
- 41:33Needs a curtain for the bathroom.
- 41:35That felt really funny to me. Do you close the door when
- 41:38you're alone at your in your house?
- 41:39Kevin's no, yeah. Why would you?
- 41:42No, so why would he? That's what makes me laugh.
- 41:44My wife used to for a while and she finally stopped.
- 41:47Like the full on lock, everything.
- 41:49I'm like full on lock. Full on lock.
- 41:51Yeah. Wow.
- 41:51What's? The point?
- 41:53Yeah. You think you're Josh or
- 41:54something? And now the door's just wide
- 41:56open. It's a comfort thing, obviously.
- 41:59Jason's just not quite comfortable in his own home,
- 42:02unfortunately. You know he's not comfortable as
- 42:04the cop with a hammer in his head.
- 42:06No, he's pretty dead. We see again, more leg work.
- 42:10Yeah. Do you think it's the same
- 42:11actor's legs the whole time? Yes, in this instance, yeah.
- 42:15There's the whole movie though, the same set of legs that we see
- 42:17constantly. Probably couple different same
- 42:19pants, different pants, different shoes.
- 42:21Yeah, it could be. I like consistency.
- 42:23Yeah, I bet. Well, now he has a headache.
- 42:25Pretty tame for your liking, I imagine.
- 42:27Fine by me. I love that it happened.
- 42:29I wish there were more blood deserves it, but I love that it
- 42:32happened. I love his face.
- 42:33There's something about the way in which he throws his head
- 42:36back. There's something about that
- 42:38face that I find. Great.
- 42:40Performance yeah not really like chilling or scary but just like
- 42:43iconic I know that face and when I think about that hammer in the
- 42:46back of the head I see that face and I'm like that's exactly what
- 42:50it should look like I don't know what it is, but I.
- 42:52It's perfect. Yeah.
- 42:53I want to clarify something. When I say when I use the term
- 42:55deserve, I don't mean like it's. Because of the Donuts.
- 42:58Well, I mean, it's the fact that they do something stupid that
- 43:01they deserve it in that sense. I don't mean like, sure, but
- 43:03what's a bad person? What's stupid in the sense he's
- 43:06a cop, but he sees something that needs investigation?
- 43:08That's a good cop. I call for backup.
- 43:11He doesn't know what's going to happen in there.
- 43:14Well, he knows the story. Probably.
- 43:17He's pretty pissed off that they even went there.
- 43:18Like, come on, you call for backup.
- 43:20Don't give me that. We're going to split it up here,
- 43:29David. Some of the folks are going to
- 43:31head to town and some are going to stay at the camp.
- 43:34Yes, that's right. Which side would you rather be
- 43:36on? Well, in hindsight.
- 43:38In hindsight, I say in real time, are you a home body or are
- 43:40you only let's go, get, let's go.
- 43:42Park, That's what scares me. I would have stuck around.
- 43:44Yeah, probably. Yeah.
- 43:45I'm Scott here. Yeah.
- 43:47That's not the guy you want to be, I'll tell you.
- 43:50It's. Not well, I mean for the short
- 43:52term, because Terry's about to go skinny dipping.
- 43:53Nudity that you've been desperate for.
- 43:55No, I just, I wasn't desperate for it.
- 43:57I knew it was going to happen when you saw she fit the bill.
- 44:01When you saw Sandra, you're like, I know she's not getting
- 44:04naked, but when you saw Terry, you were like, this girl's
- 44:07getting naked. Yes.
- 44:08OK, yeah. Did you think Jenny was going to
- 44:09get? Naked.
- 44:10No. OK, no.
- 44:11All right. It's just the one.
- 44:14You just. You knew it.
- 44:14You called it just. One, yeah, and I called the
- 44:16which one it was OK, that's impressive.
- 44:18Yeah, just cuz you weren't there to hear me call it didn't mean I
- 44:22didn't call it I. Trust you fully.
- 44:23I'm sure you told your wife like this is the one watch.
- 44:25She won't watch this 1981 shit with me of.
- 44:27Course not. I do question her decision to go
- 44:32out in the dark alone and take off your clothes.
- 44:35You're really leaving yourself vulnerable for something bad to
- 44:40happen, OK, Even if it's as small as Scott.
- 44:42Stealing your clothes? Just saying.
- 44:45She'd be safer if she was swimming with a bikini or like a
- 44:47bathing suit do. Something else?
- 44:49Play a handheld game. Arm wrestle with Mark.
- 44:52Get involved. Play Monopoly.
- 44:54Read a book. Yeah.
- 44:56But come on, skinny dipping at night?
- 44:58I love it. You ever done that?
- 45:00That's. No next to Camp Blood.
- 45:03Yeah, that's, that's the challenge.
- 45:04No, your surroundings, Yeah, get your head in the.
- 45:06Game, she deserves it, not because she's a bad person, but
- 45:08she puts herself in a bad situation.
- 45:10Well, Scott put himself in a good situation.
- 45:13A peeping Tom position. That's right.
- 45:16And steals her top. That's right.
- 45:18Yeah, that's right. And she's got the towel to cover
- 45:20up her her boobs. I'll say it.
- 45:23And we established that Vicky has a bit of a crush on Mark.
- 45:27You're telling me she's making it very well known, very clear
- 45:30that she's into him? The arm wrestling.
- 45:32Champion. That's right, That's right.
- 45:34He's right. He's taking care of business.
- 45:37He beats Jeff pretty cleanly I would say.
- 45:39It's just a a weird thing. He's just sitting there arm
- 45:42wrestling everyone. It just seems like AI don't
- 45:45know. What else has he got?
- 45:47I just thought it was odd. Yeah, sure.
- 45:49I don't know. I think you're trying to find
- 45:51ways to fill your time right? Again, you're not much.
- 45:54And if you're obviously he's an athlete, he's in training, as he
- 45:57says over and over again, I. Just fight.
- 45:58He's taking too much pride in being the arm wrestle champion
- 46:01guy. You can do other things.
- 46:03So she wants to change it up a little bit handheld.
- 46:08Sports games, Sandra interrupts and she wants Jeff to herself.
- 46:13Herself basically basically, which opens up the door for
- 46:16Vicki here yeah, she does change it up yeah now I love 80s tech
- 46:21in in old movies so I was just like what are these games hockey
- 46:27or. Football, was that what it was?
- 46:29Yeah, yeah, she likes the one with the puck.
- 46:32What does that even mean? What does that even?
- 46:33Mean I don't know. She says it tried to say it's so
- 46:35sultry and Mark is no better cuz he goes.
- 46:38So you mean hockey? Yeah, Whatever, man.
- 46:42Like because it rhymes with the. Effort.
- 46:45I think that's probably some sort of implication.
- 46:48And then he says, what do you want to play for?
- 46:51And she says position. Yeah, I didn't get that either.
- 46:55I can only assume sexual position.
- 46:57Maybe I'm not using my imagination, but it didn't seem
- 47:00like the right time. They're not there yet, yeah.
- 47:03Yeah, I don't know. She wants it to move pretty.
- 47:05Fast. She's pretty.
- 47:06Dumb, it seems. Yeah, but she's moving fast and
- 47:08saying things that don't make sense.
- 47:10That's what makes it worse. Yeah, I don't know.
- 47:12It's really challenging. Yeah.
- 47:13Cute couple, though. Yeah.
- 47:15They're gonna make it, I think. Now, did you pick up on it?
- 47:18It's really subtle, but Terry's getting out of the water.
- 47:21Back to Terry. I'm with you.
- 47:22And did you notice there's a little Jaws?
- 47:25Cute. Cute.
- 47:26You did. You did, I did.
- 47:28Good man. I wasn't sure if it was just me,
- 47:30but that was clearly a brief. Jaws beat perfect because I was
- 47:35at the same way as you, which I've watched this movie a dozen
- 47:37times. I've never really picked up on
- 47:39it. It was only on the second watch
- 47:41that I thought I think I just heard the Jaws this Jaws Y and
- 47:45there it is. So that's nice.
- 47:46That's a nice little. Call, if they had one more beat,
- 47:48they would have to get like a copyright.
- 47:50That's right. Trademark you something.
- 47:51Yeah. Fairy.
- 47:52Yeah, don't worry about it. But Scott kind of reveals
- 47:55himself to have been culprit in thieving Terry's clothes, so we
- 48:00get a little bit more of Terry naked.
- 48:03Which we're OK with, right? Which we're.
- 48:04OK, we're OK with that. Scott.
- 48:06Unfortunately, while being playful falls into a trap.
- 48:10Who laid that trap? Obviously, he was Jason
- 48:13Voorhees. OK, It was Jason, I'm sure.
- 48:16All right, Yeah, He gets roped up.
- 48:17Yeah. And at that point, we know he's
- 48:19dead. We can.
- 48:22Certainly predict. We have a pretty good inkling
- 48:24that he's probably the next to go.
- 48:28Could be really the first one if you don't count.
- 48:31Crazy Ralph? Yeah, he's the first of the
- 48:32group. I feel good about that.
- 48:34Yeah, yeah, I think so too. We're about 40 ish minutes in.
- 48:37Scott has been the least interesting character.
- 48:41He has those eyes. He's a really creepy look.
- 48:43Yeah, he does. So this just get rid of him.
- 48:46We're done with them. There you go.
- 48:47You're. Coming onto the side.
- 48:48Yeah, the other ones have more personality and it's too late in
- 48:52the game for him all of a sudden to have a personality, so he
- 48:56shall be eliminated very soon. Yeah, he gets a nice, nice
- 49:01throat slit. Yeah, I don't see what else you
- 49:03would. Do there?
- 49:04No, it's the best part. I mean, you can cut his entrails
- 49:06out, you know, cut his intestine.
- 49:07He can do a lot of things. Actually, not unlike Charles
- 49:09Napier and the sounds of the Lambs.
- 49:11You know, just gut him. Gut him and bleed them out that
- 49:13way. But I think a nice throat slash
- 49:15is classic is vintage. It's clean halal I think is I
- 49:19think. If they yeah, it was pretty
- 49:20halal. They're they're never going to
- 49:22eat them later. Yeah, you're going to be
- 49:25certified. You're good to go.
- 49:26You're good to go. What's her head?
- 49:31Sandra. Vicki Adodo.
- 49:33Terry finds them. So she gets to be scared.
- 49:37We don't see her die. No, she just kind of turns into
- 49:39the camera and that's it, yeah. Huh, I just realized that.
- 49:43But we never see her again so we can only.
- 49:45Oh yeah, no. She's she's gone.
- 49:46But yeah, we don't get to see it, unfortunately.
- 49:48It's in real time. We do cut to the bar now we kind
- 49:51of see how the other half is living.
- 49:53Yeah, a little guitar solo to get the ball rolling.
- 49:56Yeah, when she screams, it cuts back.
- 49:57It cuts to the whaling guitar. I thought again, you're playing
- 50:00with some editing choices. It's fun.
- 50:02Again, that's the effort I'm talking about.
- 50:03Yeah, yeah. I mean yes this is a a yearly
- 50:05roster update, but at least they're doing little things to
- 50:09try to do. Some originality.
- 50:11Yeah. There's nothing like that in the
- 50:12first one, right? The first one takes itself
- 50:13fairly seriously, and this has a little playfulness.
- 50:15Like the hot dog. And now the guitar thing.
- 50:17Yeah. But we have a bar full of people
- 50:19having a good time. That's right, I have the camp
- 50:22crew decided to take off. Ted's having a great time.
- 50:26Ted is an alcoholic. He's the life of the party.
- 50:28He. Is he does know when to stop
- 50:30though? Of course not.
- 50:31He's a beer can. Collector.
- 50:32Yeah. Bottle, even.
- 50:34Yeah, whatever. He's looking through the bottle.
- 50:36He's he's toasted. He's toasted but, but Jenny's
- 50:39not because it's story time. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 50:42I love this. This is what to me separates
- 50:44Jenny as a character from almost anybody else in the movie, but
- 50:48also anybody long term. Yeah, Is that she has some level
- 50:52of intelligence, for lack of a better term.
- 50:53She's good. Well, she's, you know, going to
- 50:55school for. Yeah, but like, offers a
- 50:57character trait. Oh, she's the smart one or
- 50:59whatever, or else early. And here you get to pay it off.
- 51:01And I like that she's sort of a not taken seriously right away.
- 51:05So the point where she has to defend the fact like, no, no,
- 51:07no, let's let's really talk about this in real terms.
- 51:09Let's break it down. I thought that was it's a good
- 51:13character trait to have. And I thought, sure, performance
- 51:15is really solid in this. I think that's why she's
- 51:17probably most people's favorite. I think to a certain extent it's
- 51:19got to be that, and it's more character than one would assume
- 51:22in these types of movies. And no one else so far in the
- 51:25movie has gotten anything close to that.
- 51:26So you kind of, maybe, I don't know if you've picked up, but
- 51:28maybe you get the sense that she might be one of the survivors.
- 51:32Yeah, I think she's in for the long haul.
- 51:33Terry said nothing before she died, so you're like, OK, well,
- 51:37she. Didn't say anything buddy, but
- 51:41do you think Jason might be a frightened retard?
- 51:44I'm quoting the movie. He's looking for an excuse.
- 51:47To get it out. You know, yeah, sure.
- 51:51Yeah. I like that he's that she's
- 51:53trying to figure him out. I think that it's it it makes
- 51:55for a good scene to me. I like that that she is
- 51:59attempting to put some context outside of the legend of Paul's
- 52:04story. This is actually trying to
- 52:05ground Jason into a real character short scene, but I
- 52:09think it's really effective. I I like the scene a lot.
- 52:11Now the issue I have with it if I had one which which is she
- 52:16seems to kind of know too much. Missus Voorhees and.
- 52:20She he watched her mother beheaded that night.
- 52:25That should be a grown man by now.
- 52:28This kid never knew anybody but his mother.
- 52:32Does she know all of that? Clearly she does.
- 52:34She just said it. Yeah, I don't know that she
- 52:36should say it should know that well.
- 52:37She shouldn't say the R word either, but she did.
- 52:39Well, in 1981, I don't think it mattered.
- 52:42Yeah, she definitely seems to know a lot of things, but I
- 52:46don't think she knows why Mark's in a wheelchair.
- 52:50You know, as I'm watching your lips move and I'm waiting for
- 52:54you to finish your sentence. I just think this is where he's
- 52:57going. Yeah, this is it.
- 52:58This is the Segway. It's beautiful.
- 53:01It's a beautiful thing. Motorcycle.
- 53:03Yeah. Yep.
- 53:04It happens to the best of them. I don't like, I don't like
- 53:07talking about motorcycle accidents I've seen.
- 53:09Oh, that's right. My apologies.
- 53:12That's OK. It's in the movie with someone.
- 53:14That's it. But yeah, he gets to tell a
- 53:16story about where he is and she. It's not really a story, it's
- 53:20just that was it. It's like I will walk.
- 53:22One day and she has some questions, though, about how
- 53:25things operate. Yes.
- 53:27Now I wonder. This is an attempt to make Mark,
- 53:30I suppose, sympathetic. Obviously he's in a wheelchair
- 53:33and he's in training and he will walk again someday.
- 53:37He's. Got his training wheels on, do
- 53:38you? Do you feel like any, regardless
- 53:43of what's about to happen, but do you feel any sympathy for the
- 53:48character? You feel any engagement with
- 53:50this guy? Are you disappointed that he's
- 53:52probably not going to make it? He has a look to him.
- 53:57Yeah, Billy Crudup. Who?
- 53:58He's like a young Billy Crudup. Maybe.
- 53:59Yeah. His features are very prominent.
- 54:02I think he's a good looking guy. He has a sweetness to him.
- 54:06And like you're you're gonna kill this guy.
- 54:08I know you're gonna kill this guy.
- 54:09Yeah, it's doing that on purpose.
- 54:11Yeah, I think it's pretty successful, yeah.
- 54:13Because I would agree. His death is my favorite death,
- 54:17and we'll get to yours when it comes if you haven't already.
- 54:20But I I think it's the best kill.
- 54:22I think it's my favorite kind of moment.
- 54:24And in part it's because when I first saw this movie and ever
- 54:27since, I really like this guy. Like I find myself like I think
- 54:31he's a, you know, he's and part of it is probably just a little
- 54:33sympathy for his circumstance. But also, I think he's just a
- 54:36sweet guy, a good attitude. Yeah, he's very likable.
- 54:39Do I care that he dies? Not.
- 54:40Particularly. Yeah, that's fair.
- 54:42I don't like him that much. You're dead inside.
- 54:43Well. I just know what I'm watching.
- 54:46Sure, right? So there's no point in getting.
- 54:48But lots of people die and some people live.
- 54:50So that's the thing. Like is.
- 54:51It like do I want to risk? Though I wish he had saved I.
- 54:53Wish I put a wall up to all of them.
- 54:55I don't want to be hurt. I don't want to be hurt.
- 54:58What are your thoughts on her getting ready?
- 55:00Vicky here taking the control of the situation.
- 55:03Do you think that the new pair of panties she puts on are any
- 55:07better than the panties that she has?
- 55:08On, I'm not sure what's going on at this point.
- 55:10I don't I don't know why with that adjustment.
- 55:13Special panties. I guess these are sex panties,
- 55:16but they look no sexier. Nothing extraordinary than the
- 55:21one she has. On now what's going through my
- 55:23head at this point of the film. It's shitty.
- 55:27No, thank God, not me. That's for Mark in a moment here
- 55:30is there's always, not always because I haven't seen a lot of
- 55:33these movies, but what I've been exposed to so far is I feel that
- 55:38when there's couples involved romantically, you get a set of
- 55:43kills that is pre sex and then another set of kills.
- 55:47Post sex. Oh, interesting, I feel.
- 55:50Like this happened in the first one.
- 55:52Could be I'd have to really think about it, think about it
- 55:55that there was a definitely a bed scene.
- 55:57So yeah, well, certainly they finished.
- 55:58They finished and I assume two others were about to, but we'd
- 56:02have to. I definitely know Bacon.
- 56:03And what's her name? She did.
- 56:05They finished up. Yeah, he came to completion for
- 56:08sure. Now my question to you is which
- 56:11couple would you rather be? Well, obviously I would rather
- 56:14that's a ridiculous. Dumb question, eh?
- 56:17Yeah, you know, do I want to be in a wheelchair, not having sex
- 56:20or two, I want to have my legs and having sex with some nice
- 56:24boobs. Yeah, I suppose.
- 56:26And get the spear. Yeah, through the leg.
- 56:28It's clean. Yeah, so similar to the first
- 56:30one, we're getting piled up, piled up on kills.
- 56:33Yeah, we get 4-5 and six murders all happening basically at the
- 56:37same time. Marks my favorite.
- 56:38The machete in the face, down the stairs, it's fantastic.
- 56:42Yeah, it's showcase. It's showcase.
- 56:44It's a highlight. It's probably the best 1.
- 56:46I don't have a best one. I asked you specifically to come
- 56:49up with the best one, did you? Yeah.
- 56:50Well, this would have to be it then.
- 56:52OK. Yeah.
- 56:53Let's just I find them all not very imaginative, you know, You
- 56:56know, I don't enjoy it. But at least in Halloween, it
- 56:59was done well. You don't think that getting a
- 57:03machete to the face and falling down the stairs and in the
- 57:06wheelchair rolling down, that's not clever, That's not unique.
- 57:09It's interesting. Talk to me.
- 57:11Explain yourself. It's a little showy.
- 57:15It's just a little showy. You want something different,
- 57:18showy. Like a nice balance.
- 57:20Oh my gosh, I think from production value.
- 57:23OK. Halloween did it much better.
- 57:26OK. And that scene in the 1st Friday
- 57:29the 13th? Bacon getting a spirit through
- 57:31the neck. Yeah, and this movie doesn't
- 57:33have anything like that. This is this is it.
- 57:35This is the only thing. And it's just a wheelchair going
- 57:36down some stairs. I thought it was very effective,
- 57:39but OK. Well, all right, well, let's
- 57:41move and pivot there to Sondra and Jeff.
- 57:44They're finishing up. Yeah, that was That's a nothing
- 57:47burger. It's like I said, they cut out
- 57:49the middle part. Yeah, well, I get it now.
- 57:52But I mean still nonetheless. That the death part.
- 57:55Nonetheless, there it is. Yeah, does does the spear get
- 57:59both of them? I guess.
- 58:00Yeah, it goes through both of them.
- 58:01That's the best part. But I don't know.
- 58:04Yeah, it's one that I wanted. I wanted more blood and guts.
- 58:07I like the fact that it's sort of it's.
- 58:09It's 2 seconds. It's a quick stab.
- 58:11You're watching it hit the ground so you know it's sharp
- 58:13and you get the blood trickle. So I'm like, this establishes
- 58:16from a visual perspective something kind of eye-catching,
- 58:19but I wanted more blood and guts.
- 58:21There's no like visual. You don't see their face.
- 58:23You don't see. Anything.
- 58:24The scene originally lasted longer and she was visible, like
- 58:29she could see him and was trying to get Jeff kind of off her to
- 58:34kind of save her, but he was in such a state of bliss that
- 58:38didn't move. The longer version from my
- 58:40understanding is like really like scared and it just doesn't
- 58:44translate to this one. Do they not check ID?
- 58:491981 These are all like independent movies.
- 58:51No, no budgets, not unionized, nothing.
- 58:54But Vicki's on the hunt. Now Vicki's wondering where Mark
- 58:56is. Yeah, she she wants to write
- 58:58them. Exactly.
- 58:59She goes to check on it and this is a scene I really like and it
- 59:02really kind of amps up the movie.
- 59:04What? Vicki coming in and seeing the
- 59:06bloody sheets and then Jason popping up out of it.
- 59:11Oh, that's fine. I love that.
- 59:12That's such a great jump scare to me.
- 59:14And you finally, the first time you really get to see Jason at
- 59:17all and we see this burlap sack choice that's made.
- 59:22I thought from a visual, I thought this is really a jarring
- 59:25kind of moment. I got to jump.
- 59:26You didn't feel anything. You didn't notice that you
- 59:28expected. It I was thinking about Al
- 59:29Pacino in the back of a car. He had a bag over his head.
- 59:34Insider. It's, you know, that joke where
- 59:39someone's standing on the middle of the road and there's a
- 59:42vehicle coming and he's, like, is about to get run over?
- 59:45Yeah. And then you look and see the
- 59:46vehicles, like, a mile away. Sure.
- 59:49That's how I felt about Vicki's death.
- 59:51OK, took too long. He's over on the bed.
- 59:54Yeah, yeah, she's in the corner. He's coming towards her at a
- 59:57pretty slow speed and she just stands there, doesn't try to
- 1:00:01just. I don't know.
- 1:00:02Walk out the door. Yeah.
- 1:00:04Which reminds me of the bathroom kill.
- 1:00:06Yeah, in Friday the 13th. It's the weakest kill.
- 1:00:08It's nothing. She stands there, looks at him.
- 1:00:11Yeah, and just takes it like a champ.
- 1:00:13Yeah, pure terror I think is what that.
- 1:00:15Is yeah I guess, but I'm I'm trying to exit.
- 1:00:18Yeah, that's fair. What I like about it is the
- 1:00:21iconography of it that visual. What?
- 1:00:23The iconography. Oh.
- 1:00:25The visual of the hand holding the knife and the thumb and the
- 1:00:31bruise on the thumb. For some reason when I think of
- 1:00:34Friday the 13th, there's a couple of iconic kind of moments
- 1:00:38or bizarre scenes or shots or whatever else.
- 1:00:41The cop getting the hammer in the back of the head, in the
- 1:00:43face that he makes, and then just this bruised thumb
- 1:00:46approaching this woman terrified.
- 1:00:48I really like this scene generally, although I agree,
- 1:00:51takes too long, slow pace, you should be doing more.
- 1:00:54But damn, that thumb looks really exciting.
- 1:00:57I love it, the thumb because I was a young kid watching it,
- 1:01:00thinking what is up with this thumb?
- 1:01:02I'd never had a bruised thumbnail before, so there's
- 1:01:05like this black mark on the thumb and I just could not
- 1:01:09understand why and I just thought that's evil.
- 1:01:12He just hurt his thumb at some point.
- 1:01:14Didn't know that when I was 12. Clearly I didn't even notice the
- 1:01:17thumb. Yeah, see.
- 1:01:18Yeah, your attention to detail someone mentioned once.
- 1:01:22Yeah, I missed the thumb scene. Yeah, because.
- 1:01:25That's why I didn't really enjoy the movie.
- 1:01:26I didn't see the thumb. Another fun moment is right
- 1:01:30after this. Basically, Vicky is dead.
- 1:01:32It's fun and we watched the feet get dragged on the stairs.
- 1:01:36It's a it's a shot that I love. I missed that.
- 1:01:39Oh, it's so good, really. Yeah, I didn't see any feet
- 1:01:41getting dragged. I believe you.
- 1:01:43I. Guess it's fantastic.
- 1:01:44I was just surprised that they're smoking better dope than
- 1:01:46Paul. That was shocking to me.
- 1:01:49Shocking. And that pretty much just leaves
- 1:01:51Jenny and Paul. Yeah, they kind of go back to
- 1:01:54the camp and something is amiss. Something's amiss.
- 1:01:56Lights are out, things are unplugged.
- 1:01:58There's clearly somebody in the room.
- 1:02:00That's right. That's what Jenny's got.
- 1:02:02She got she got a sixth sense about this.
- 1:02:04I didn't see anybody. Well, she called it and it.
- 1:02:07Happened, she did, and now we have to activate bad aim.
- 1:02:12Jason just completely misses. Yeah, well, he ends up killing
- 1:02:15Paul or working Paul really good.
- 1:02:17Yeah, but the initial stabbing, he just completely misses.
- 1:02:20It's not, it's not like missed opportunity.
- 1:02:22It's not like Paul dodged it. That's true.
- 1:02:24Just missed it. It's a clean miss.
- 1:02:26Yeah, it's dark. It's irritating.
- 1:02:27Those are the Buffalo Bills. The.
- 1:02:29Night vision. We're in the last 20 now, so
- 1:02:39you're getting into sort of a bit of a chase sequence.
- 1:02:41Yeah, Paul got mauled, maybe dead.
- 1:02:44I I didn't think he was. OK, you're ahead.
- 1:02:46Of the I've been around. Yeah, I've seen some things.
- 1:02:49Card won't start, of course, right.
- 1:02:51We already established earlier the car is finicky.
- 1:02:54We have Ginny sort of running down the road.
- 1:02:56Yeah. And we have a missed tackle by
- 1:03:00Jason. That's right.
- 1:03:01He must have been hungover. At the strip club.
- 1:03:06And then she finds herself in another cabin.
- 1:03:09Is that correct? That's correct, yeah.
- 1:03:11Are you scared of mice? No, I think in my house I would
- 1:03:15probably find them unpleasant. Yeah, but I've been around rats
- 1:03:19even. They're not my favorite thing in
- 1:03:20the world. I want to interact with them but
- 1:03:22I don't know if I'm scared of them.
- 1:03:23Does she pee herself? I think she does.
- 1:03:26At first I thought it was because of the mouse.
- 1:03:28Yeah, I'm thinking come on. But it might have been just
- 1:03:30because there's a a lot of killer.
- 1:03:34That all her friends and colleagues are dead.
- 1:03:36And she's been chased and he's right there.
- 1:03:39Yeah. I have a problem with the camera
- 1:03:40shot here. We see her underneath the bed.
- 1:03:43Yeah. Maybe it's just the angle of the
- 1:03:44camera. I would think he would see her
- 1:03:46too. Yeah, that's all I'm saying.
- 1:03:48That's fair. I'm not here to nitpick.
- 1:03:50No, no, I I put that at the very respectful.
- 1:03:52I leave that at the door for these movies.
- 1:03:54At least I I try to. Yeah, but he kind of goes.
- 1:03:57Away. Like, yeah, strangely decides to
- 1:03:59go outside, smoke break, I guess.
- 1:04:01I don't know, But she ends up kind of getting here.
- 1:04:04He discovers her or whatever the case, so she runs out again.
- 1:04:07Yeah, they're more running this time to the forest where she
- 1:04:10happens upon the shed. The shed where we know is where
- 1:04:14the chainsaw is kept. That's right, because that was
- 1:04:16foreshadowed. Yeah.
- 1:04:18And we have arguably the best shot of the movie, and you're
- 1:04:23going to be really impressed by this.
- 1:04:24Tell me. She runs in and then there's a
- 1:04:28window and then we see Jason through the window running and
- 1:04:33she hasn't seen him yet. It's fantastic.
- 1:04:35She sees, she sees him pretty quickly afterwards.
- 1:04:38Yeah, but there's a couple seconds.
- 1:04:40There's a couple seconds where I thought that's it's a great shot
- 1:04:43Halloween. Like that's the quality of the
- 1:04:45original Halloween movie. Nice work.
- 1:04:47And that was impressive. Yeah, there's a brief moment,
- 1:04:49but I I wanted you to. Know that I recognized it.
- 1:04:51I respect that and. I'm good scene I'm.
- 1:04:53Impressed. Sorry you did.
- 1:04:55Not a scene, but a moment. Great shot.
- 1:04:56At the very least, a glimpse. Would you say?
- 1:05:00That's right. Now, you mentioned the chainsaw
- 1:05:02that was actually found before the shed, of course, because
- 1:05:05it's in a cabin, not with Jason itself.
- 1:05:07Oh yes, my apologies, I got. So excited.
- 1:05:10What I found interesting about that.
- 1:05:11I don't know if you ever thought about this, but there's a moment
- 1:05:14where she grabs it and goes after him.
- 1:05:18Yeah. And there's a moment of fear in
- 1:05:20Jason. You can watch him.
- 1:05:22He stumbles backwards. He throws his hands up as if to
- 1:05:25say, you know, no, no, no, no. It is the only time that I can
- 1:05:29think of, OK, in this entire film series.
- 1:05:32And it happens obviously very early here, where there is any
- 1:05:35fear at all in the villain. Interesting.
- 1:05:38Now, what are your thoughts, just conceptually, generally,
- 1:05:42about that idea? Don't you want a vulnerable
- 1:05:45villain or not? I'm on the fence.
- 1:05:46I've thought about this. I'm not talking about sleepless
- 1:05:50nights. Thinking about it, I'm not at
- 1:05:51that level. But I often wonder, is the movie
- 1:05:54better when they don't show any of that?
- 1:05:57Or would it be better if they did?
- 1:06:00I don't have an answer for you. I don't have a big.
- 1:06:02I don't have a big enough sample size.
- 1:06:04It's fair. I know there's certain things in
- 1:06:06Halloween that I didn't like, especially in Yeah, a lot of it
- 1:06:10was Part 6. I didn't really notice it
- 1:06:12though. OK.
- 1:06:13I was more confused to how the chainsaw turned into a chair.
- 1:06:17Yeah. Sure, that's a downgrade.
- 1:06:19It is a downgrade, absolutely. Did it run out of, I think gas?
- 1:06:22I don't know. It's not clear.
- 1:06:24No. And that's bad film making.
- 1:06:25Absolutely. Certainly as it as it gets to
- 1:06:27wrap up here, there's a couple of those types of things.
- 1:06:29Yeah. Just go with it.
- 1:06:30Yeah, it's not. Super tight, no.
- 1:06:33Yeah, we have. The shed is where it all
- 1:06:35happens. You know, to quote Hamilton,
- 1:06:37it's the room where it happens. Sure.
- 1:06:39And you're a shed guy. I have a shed guy.
- 1:06:41I got a lovely one right here. But while she's at the shed, we
- 1:06:44see Mom's head. Yes, and a sweater.
- 1:06:48It's kind of got the shrine set up.
- 1:06:51And she is a quick thinker. She's a child psychologist.
- 1:06:53She kind of puts it together very quickly before Jason comes
- 1:06:56in. Yeah, I'm going to put on the
- 1:06:58sweater and I'm gonna basically pretend to be Mom.
- 1:07:01That's quick thinking. I respect it.
- 1:07:03I don't know if it would work, but I like the idea.
- 1:07:06I think that was the whole point of her at the bar scene, to
- 1:07:09allow this to make sense. Sure, the mom is the thing.
- 1:07:12Yeah, key to the whole thing. So there's again, there's
- 1:07:15effort. The Rosetta Stone to ties
- 1:07:16together. Yeah, exactly.
- 1:07:18Totally fair. I think it's a little
- 1:07:20implausible, but I definitely kind of.
- 1:07:21Oh yeah, Heavens yes, Yeah. Like it doesn't make a lot.
- 1:07:23Of sense, not a million years. But I really kind of respect
- 1:07:25that at least tries to make sense.
- 1:07:27And in the context of the movie, it does make sense.
- 1:07:29Yeah, I agree. I I was on board with it, to be
- 1:07:31honest with you. Yeah, yeah, too.
- 1:07:33Maybe it was the sweater, I don't know.
- 1:07:35You like a sweater? He did remind me of Steve Martin
- 1:07:37in Little Shop though. Really loves his mom.
- 1:07:40Oh, Mama. That is great.
- 1:07:44The mask comes off Paul's back. Don't forget Paul's.
- 1:07:47Back, that's true. And then we have a slow motion
- 1:07:49while Paul's tussling with him again.
- 1:07:51Yes, this time she does something.
- 1:07:53Yes, before she just watched. Yes, yes.
- 1:07:55Him get mauled in the house earlier which was awkward.
- 1:07:58Saves the day. And machetes them in the eye.
- 1:08:02It's not shoulder. Basically.
- 1:08:03Yeah, but it's not clear initially where.
- 1:08:05Yes, we get the impression he's dead, but let's not confirm.
- 1:08:10And they removed the bag. Yes, but we don't.
- 1:08:13See it? No exactly, gotta keep it under
- 1:08:14wraps, which I'm with. It.
- 1:08:16Yeah, yeah. It's like Norm's wife and
- 1:08:19Cheers. That's right.
- 1:08:20That's what you don't see. That matters, right?
- 1:08:21Exactly. Now, at this point, though, we
- 1:08:23do establish that Muffin is still alive.
- 1:08:26That's bullshit. It's such bullshit.
- 1:08:27That's bullshit. That's bullshit.
- 1:08:29I hate that. Yeah and the music, the shift is
- 1:08:32Yeah, it's weird to different. Yeah.
- 1:08:34I don't know, I. Don't love it, but we do get in
- 1:08:37classic Friday the 13th tradition.
- 1:08:39Yeah, well, yeah, this makes sense.
- 1:08:40Yeah, the. Big jump scare.
- 1:08:41Yeah, Jason now comes through a window and he looks like a.
- 1:08:45Deformed. Yeah, she called it.
- 1:08:50She called it. That means.
- 1:08:57It's a lot different than what we last saw.
- 1:08:59Yeah. What do you think about them
- 1:09:02revealing the face though? I think it's fantastic.
- 1:09:05Yeah, Yeah. I like the fact that this, while
- 1:09:09Michael Myers approach, it seemed was always don't show the
- 1:09:12face. I enjoy the fact that they're
- 1:09:15sort of open to it because what I like is, as you know, I'm an
- 1:09:19effects guy. Makeup Effects.
- 1:09:21Visual Effects. Yeah, special effects, whatever.
- 1:09:23Appreciate his deformity. So to me, it's like, show me a
- 1:09:25cool makeup design or a creature design, A character design, and
- 1:09:29I'm in. So I like the fact that it's not
- 1:09:31just a bag, which I is fine on its own, but I like that you
- 1:09:35finally get the reveal of like, oh, this guy is fucking gross or
- 1:09:39whatever, you know, kind of comes down.
- 1:09:40So I enjoy it a lot. It looks like a guy that's been
- 1:09:43living in the forest. Yeah, no, it's, it's a good
- 1:09:45look. It's a good look, Goonies.
- 1:09:48Yeah, yeah, too. That's a good sloth, You're
- 1:09:50right. I'm a little disappointed though
- 1:09:53I kind of like the you. Know I like the.
- 1:09:55I like the Norm's wife of it all, or Niall's wife, you know.
- 1:09:58And if I do, I want to at least wait till the 5th or 6th
- 1:10:00installment. Yeah, you want to earn it.
- 1:10:03I want to earn it. I want to earn it.
- 1:10:04Now. We kind of come out of what
- 1:10:07could be, I suppose, construed as a dream sequence.
- 1:10:10This is where the movie, I think, just doesn't make any
- 1:10:11sense to me. So we've established the dog is
- 1:10:14still alive, despite having kind of proven twice that it was
- 1:10:17dead. We have Paul come back and live
- 1:10:21and even at that point he goes out to grab the dog and that's
- 1:10:25when Jason comes through the window.
- 1:10:26Yeah, we don't know what happened to Paul after that and
- 1:10:28then out of the. Blue, she's going into an
- 1:10:30ambulance and she's saying where's Paul?
- 1:10:31Where's Paul? Where's Paul?
- 1:10:33Jenny's in an ambulance. With the dog.
- 1:10:35What just happened? Yeah, I don't know.
- 1:10:38I'll tell you what I do know. They're doing the same thing.
- 1:10:40They did the last one. Sure.
- 1:10:42Did it happen? Did it?
- 1:10:43Not did it not happen? That's what they're doing.
- 1:10:45This is a complete duplicate. That's of the original.
- 1:10:47Yeah, this doesn't help. It's 'cause.
- 1:10:49It makes less sense than the first one.
- 1:10:51I'm assuming they explained in the next one, but I'm getting
- 1:10:55the impression that they don't. Based on the fact that you've
- 1:10:57seen them all. That's disappointing.
- 1:11:00Well, we don't know. I'm not spoiling anything, but
- 1:11:03what are your thoughts on the final shot?
- 1:11:06What else are you gonna do? A slow push in on the.
- 1:11:07Yeah. You put it on the mom's head.
- 1:11:09Yeah, that's what you do. That's the right choice.
- 1:11:11That's the only choice. It's the only choice, I suppose.
- 1:11:13Yeah. What if I was to tell you that
- 1:11:15it was originally supposed to end with the eyes opening?
- 1:11:19That's stupid. Yeah, that's why they changed.
- 1:11:21Yeah, I would hope so. That's why if you look as it's
- 1:11:24pushing in, you can see that it's like a human head as
- 1:11:26opposed to, yeah, just a prosthetic or whatever.
- 1:11:29And it basically just like seconds before the eyes open in
- 1:11:33real life they just cut it so it.
- 1:11:34Looks a little off. See, that should be illegal.
- 1:11:37Yeah, definitely cut that out. Yeah, so they made the right
- 1:11:39choice. I'm glad that you agree and you
- 1:11:42guys made the right choice. But listening to us, we do
