- 0:00Speaker 1: Let's dive into ethereum today and are whales starting to
- 0:03Speaker 1: inject capital into the network. We'll break it all down
- 0:07Speaker 1: for you. My name is Paul Perre. Welcome back in.
- 0:08Speaker 1: But when you look at digital asset treasuries, if you
- 0:11Speaker 1: kind of look at the chart right here in terms
- 0:14Speaker 1: of these big yellow bubbles right there, those are acquisition points,
- 0:18Speaker 1: and we continue to see acquisitions occurring within the asset treasuries.
- 0:24Speaker 1: You guys have seen the ether reserve ranking right there.
- 0:27Speaker 1: We're going to get of course BTCS on the show today,
- 0:30Speaker 1: but you can kind of see it a bit mind
- 0:31Speaker 1: leading the pack there, BTS holding the number six. So
- 0:34Speaker 1: we thought let's get Charles in from BTCS to kind
- 0:38Speaker 1: of break down what's happening in the markets. Charles, welcome
- 0:41Speaker 1: back in. Thanks for coming in.
- 0:42Speaker 2: Yeah, Paul, thanks for having me back. It's great to
- 0:44Speaker 2: go to the show.
- 0:45Speaker 1: So let's go into a couple of points. I want
- 0:47Speaker 1: to hit on one thing that you guys put You
- 0:50Speaker 1: put out this tweet over the weekend, while not material.
- 0:53Speaker 1: On Saturday, BTCS picked up another million and a half
- 0:56Speaker 1: in the eight in the thirty eight hundred dollars range,
- 0:59Speaker 1: So goodbye for you guys, and DeFi continues to perform,
- 1:03Speaker 1: so AVE was still doing great. UNISWAP running twenty four
- 1:06Speaker 1: to seven, meaning you've got access. These are the kind
- 1:09Speaker 1: of things that happened throughout these weekends. Why first of all,
- 1:12Speaker 1: why do you think we were seeing both institutional companies
- 1:16Speaker 1: like yourself in the A on the digital asset treasury
- 1:19Speaker 1: groups really going all in in a time where I
- 1:22Speaker 1: think a lot of traders were very, very spooked by
- 1:26Speaker 1: what happened over the weekend.
- 1:27Speaker 3: I mean, I think you'll always have that issue of
- 1:29Speaker 3: traders trading, right, they're going to trade the short term,
- 1:34Speaker 3: you know, volatility of a market, and so we have
- 1:36Speaker 3: a very long term view on Ethereum. We're very bullish
- 1:39Speaker 3: on what it's going to do to change the way
- 1:42Speaker 3: digital assets are moved on a global scale. And so
- 1:45Speaker 3: we see a market crash, I mean, that's that's the
- 1:47Speaker 3: best time to buy, right. There's always that expression, like
- 1:49Speaker 3: when you're getting stock advice from like the hot dog
- 1:51Speaker 3: vendor in New York City, it's the time to sell.
- 1:54Speaker 3: When everybody else is selling, it's the time to buy. So,
- 1:57Speaker 3: you know, we saw that that kind of flash crash
- 1:59Speaker 3: on Friday. Unfortunately, I was at dinner with the family,
- 2:01Speaker 3: so we couldn't you know, pull the trigger and do
- 2:03Speaker 3: anything that night. But you know, we started the discussion
- 2:06Speaker 3: and you know, on Saturday we had you know, picked
- 2:08Speaker 3: up you know.
- 2:10Speaker 2: Another million and a half of ETH.
- 2:12Speaker 3: And what was great is we were able to do
- 2:13Speaker 3: that on defive So have we been using traditional exchanges.
- 2:18Speaker 3: It was you know, if it was cratified, we wouldn't
- 2:20Speaker 3: have been able to do that, And so we were
- 2:21Speaker 3: able to capture that, you know that that it was
- 2:24Speaker 3: close to the bottom as we possibly could well.
- 2:26Speaker 1: And I think you hit it right here on this tweet.
- 2:29Speaker 1: We saw the market flash crash, you guys remaining rock Soale,
- 2:32Speaker 1: We're all we are well over collateralized with zero liquidation.
- 2:36Speaker 1: So that's another advantage that you've got in terms of
- 2:39Speaker 1: how you guys are playing this market, which I think
- 2:41Speaker 1: is a good benefit to a lot of the people
- 2:44Speaker 1: who hold btcs. When you look at institutions right now,
- 2:48Speaker 1: Charles and you kind of compare this, I'll go to
- 2:50Speaker 1: the the et F tracker and these outflows that we've
- 2:54Speaker 1: started to see, now, typically what has happened after these
- 2:57Speaker 1: massive outflows If we have started to see the price
- 3:00Speaker 1: of eth start to track back up again. So this
- 3:04Speaker 1: is perfect timing where it appears to be perfect timing
- 3:06Speaker 1: for companies like yourself and others to really pack in
- 3:10Speaker 1: a lot of opportunity of buying these dips. Is this
- 3:12Speaker 1: a typical strategy that you guys are implementing.
- 3:16Speaker 2: It is, And we have kind of two strategies, right.
- 3:18Speaker 2: We have a fifty million dollars buy.
- 3:19Speaker 3: Back in place, so we're buying back shares when the
- 3:21Speaker 3: stock dips, and we have and we see opportunity on
- 3:25Speaker 3: the east side where we're going to do the same.
- 3:27Speaker 3: And so I think it's it's very natural that when
- 3:29Speaker 3: there's a flash crash or there's uncertainty, people panic sell
- 3:33Speaker 3: and that creates a great opportunity. Right when everybody is chasing,
- 3:37Speaker 3: chasing the highs and there's fear of missing out and buying,
- 3:40Speaker 3: that's typically when it's it's a great time to kind
- 3:42Speaker 3: of take a pause and say, okay.
- 3:43Speaker 2: Well, what is my valuation? Is this the right Is
- 3:45Speaker 2: this the right timing to institute and move right?
- 3:50Speaker 1: Well, you can kind of see it right here. This
- 3:52Speaker 1: is the total ethereum spot etf net inflow outflow. These
- 3:55Speaker 1: are the outflows that happen, and then we see these bounces, right, so,
- 4:00Speaker 1: coming off that boom, then we see the ether price
- 4:03Speaker 1: start to move up, which I think is kind of
- 4:06Speaker 1: in alignment with what you guys are trying to do
- 4:08Speaker 1: from a strategy standpoint. When you look at ETF holders
- 4:12Speaker 1: versus asset treasury holders, why do you think because this
- 4:16Speaker 1: seems like a completely different audience now, like you're you're
- 4:19Speaker 1: marketing to different people, kind of give me the breakdown
- 4:22Speaker 1: of the two, I think.
- 4:24Speaker 3: So, I mean, I think you know, ETF one are
- 4:26Speaker 3: just targeting and holding that underline, and so there's a
- 4:30Speaker 3: lot of the investors in an ETF maybe arbitraging that
- 4:34Speaker 3: against a DIGITALIZID treasury company. I've spoken to larger institutions
- 4:38Speaker 3: that are actually doing that and saying, well, okay, if
- 4:41Speaker 3: if a company that doesn't have much operations and all
- 4:43Speaker 3: it does is hold, let's say eth, they can sell
- 4:45Speaker 3: that short and buy the ETFs the in arbitrage it.
- 4:49Speaker 3: So I think in the public markets there's a lot
- 4:51Speaker 3: that's going to go on that is not as simple
- 4:53Speaker 3: as the price coming up or down, or I'm buying
- 4:54Speaker 3: loan and selling high. It's much more complex and so
- 5:00Speaker 3: I mean that's why I created an opportunity for the
- 5:01Speaker 3: weekend where you know, traditional markets are closed and we're
- 5:05Speaker 3: able to go in there and use DeFi and you
- 5:07Speaker 3: know borrow and you know, increase our exposure to ETH.
- 5:10Speaker 3: And it seems like it was a pretty bid call
- 5:12Speaker 3: based on you know where EATH is. You know, after
- 5:16Speaker 3: the long weekend, right, it's back, it's back up in
- 5:18Speaker 3: the four thousand range. I think it got up to
- 5:20Speaker 3: like close to forty five hundred right, looked moment, but
- 5:23Speaker 3: it's it was definitely a good opportunity.
- 5:26Speaker 1: Yeah. Well, I think you know, when we see the
- 5:28Speaker 1: markets doing what they are right now, and I think
- 5:31Speaker 1: a lot of people were in the position where if
- 5:33Speaker 1: they could get into this dip, this was a great benefit.
- 5:37Speaker 1: I think the key here is watching how the markets
- 5:39Speaker 1: respond now from here going forward. You look at the
- 5:43Speaker 1: news you put out this statement right here, big news
- 5:45Speaker 1: from Sharplink Gaming. They announced tokenization of s bet and
- 5:49Speaker 1: they're doing it the right way your claim here, Unlike
- 5:52Speaker 1: if you look at something of what's happening over on Onto,
- 5:55Speaker 1: which puts a lot more economic pressure on this around ownership.
- 6:00Speaker 1: Laying to our audience why this is a good move
- 6:03Speaker 1: doing it this way. I know you guys are obviously
- 6:05Speaker 1: in this direction as well.
- 6:06Speaker 3: Yeah, we already did this, right. We did this not
- 6:09Speaker 3: on super state, we did this on upstream. So it
- 6:12Speaker 3: was a platform that tokenized our stock on Ethereum splockchain.
- 6:15Speaker 3: I think there's like three years ago, and it's a
- 6:18Speaker 3: very lengthy process to get it's a very very hard process. Right,
- 6:23Speaker 3: You've got to get liquidity and you've got to get
- 6:25Speaker 3: companies on board these platforms.
- 6:27Speaker 2: So I think overall, tokenizing stock the right.
- 6:30Speaker 3: Way, and it's very important, the right way where you're
- 6:33Speaker 3: actually a record holder and you actually own those securities.
- 6:37Speaker 3: It is extremely fundamental in reforming how the capital markets work.
- 6:42Speaker 3: I think tokenizing stock in the wrong way, and I
- 6:44Speaker 3: would put that is, you know, going and getting the
- 6:46Speaker 3: shares for a brokerage firm and then tokenizing those where
- 6:50Speaker 3: you can have fractional shares and nobody knows who owns
- 6:53Speaker 3: what because the company issues of the shares. It goes
- 6:56Speaker 3: to seed and co and then it goes to the
- 6:58Speaker 3: brokers and it's just a legal reperation of ownership through
- 7:01Speaker 3: a chain that keeps adding layers and layers on top
- 7:03Speaker 3: of which is how you end up with fandom shares
- 7:06Speaker 3: and all these issues in the market. So I'm super
- 7:08Speaker 3: exciting when someone you know and any like Sharpling comes
- 7:10Speaker 3: out and says, hey, we're gonna do this, and we're.
- 7:12Speaker 2: Gonna do it the right way.
- 7:13Speaker 3: We're gonna do it on a platform where you actually
- 7:14Speaker 3: have direct ownership of those shares.
- 7:16Speaker 2: It's something we did in the past. We're not going
- 7:18Speaker 2: to pioneer it again.
- 7:19Speaker 3: We're gonna let other people take the arrows and make
- 7:21Speaker 3: it work, and if they do a good job at
- 7:23Speaker 3: it will follow suit. But it's definitely something I'm excited
- 7:25Speaker 3: to see happy happened, especially on ethereum flockchain.
- 7:29Speaker 1: Do you think that this solves the stock lending problem,
- 7:34Speaker 1: you know, when you're dealing with real ownership of that
- 7:37Speaker 1: stock applying to the tokenization process right now?
- 7:40Speaker 2: It should. I mean the issue you have right now,
- 7:42Speaker 2: and this is one of the reasons why we did
- 7:43Speaker 2: the vivid end is if you own stock and let's
- 7:46Speaker 2: say our company, your.
- 7:48Speaker 3: Broker can and will load it out without notifying you,
- 7:53Speaker 3: without without pay, and so someone can bet against you
- 7:58Speaker 3: and then they pull all those shares together on a
- 8:00Speaker 3: lending desk and then institutions can go to that lending desk,
- 8:02Speaker 3: borrow those shares and bet against the fundamental investors. So
- 8:05Speaker 3: if you tokenize those securities and you put them on
- 8:07Speaker 3: a blockchain, you have the ability to eliminate that issue.
- 8:13Speaker 3: You also don't have market makers that can print fake
- 8:15Speaker 3: shares that don't exist. It's like selling that, you know,
- 8:17Speaker 3: the title to a house you don't own. So it
- 8:20Speaker 3: eliminates all of those issues. It's a much harder model
- 8:25Speaker 3: to start from scratch and get into the market. And
- 8:28Speaker 3: that's why I worry that the tokenization of stocks the
- 8:31Speaker 3: brokerage firms is really a toxic thing for the capital
- 8:34Speaker 3: markets because now you've got a brokerage firm which would
- 8:36Speaker 3: be lending your shares, which could be you know, printing.
- 8:40Speaker 2: Fake ones, which market makers do.
- 8:42Speaker 3: They basically invent fake shares and sell them assuming they
- 8:46Speaker 3: have the assumption that they're going to be able to
- 8:47Speaker 3: rebuy those, right, So it's called market in any other businesses,
- 8:51Speaker 3: it's fraud.
- 8:52Speaker 2: In the stock market, it's real.
- 8:55Speaker 3: And so if now they can load or make up
- 8:58Speaker 3: shares or give shares to you a token in a
- 9:01Speaker 3: tokenized form on a platform, it's a layer below that
- 9:05Speaker 3: it's just piling on a what is already a bad system,
- 9:08Speaker 3: so it's using blockchain technology to propagate and make the
- 9:12Speaker 3: system it's already bad worse, versus say, hey, this technology
- 9:16Speaker 3: can completely rewrite how we do things, and let's use
- 9:18Speaker 3: that in.
- 9:18Speaker 2: The correct way.
- 9:19Speaker 1: Yeah. I think the strategies that you guys have taken.
- 9:22Speaker 1: Of course, this will be interesting, especially around the pivid in.
- 9:25Speaker 1: I was also looking at your tweet here when you
- 9:28Speaker 1: had the pivid in issued. How many people took advantage
- 9:31Speaker 1: of this? Let me kind of zoom in on that.
- 9:33Speaker 3: We haven't put that out yet, but it's in terms
- 9:36Speaker 3: of total number of shares, I mean, if you exclude management,
- 9:39Speaker 3: it's material.
- 9:41Speaker 1: Wow.
- 9:42Speaker 2: And we actually already paid the.
- 9:43Speaker 3: Vivid end, which is great, And we took a little
- 9:46Speaker 3: longer to reconcile some of the documents than we thought,
- 9:48Speaker 3: but that got paid out last week. So we had
- 9:51Speaker 3: set a record a payment data on or before October seventeen,
- 9:55Speaker 3: as you are now, if you're getting cash that's going
- 9:58Speaker 3: to go out on the payment ding we've actually already painted.
- 10:00Speaker 3: It goes to DTCC and they're going to give it
- 10:02Speaker 3: to the brokers, and the brokers are going to go
- 10:03Speaker 3: pay it to the shareholders whoever they may.
- 10:06Speaker 2: Be at that at that time.
- 10:08Speaker 3: And so if you if you took cash, you'll get
- 10:10Speaker 3: it on October seventeenth, and if you're short to stock,
- 10:12Speaker 3: go pay it on October seventeenth, all right.
- 10:14Speaker 1: And if you took eight is the same date. I'm
- 10:17Speaker 1: assuming we didn't pay it the same day.
- 10:18Speaker 3: We just we did it sometime last week, all right.
- 10:22Speaker 3: It was it was fast, right, I mean, it was processed.
- 10:25Speaker 3: You know, it took an hour to process. It was
- 10:28Speaker 3: just a question of making sure we had all of
- 10:30Speaker 3: the documents and pay in place that people adopted in
- 10:33Speaker 3: so right now, and if you look at our business
- 10:35Speaker 3: on the capital market side, you know, we did the
- 10:37Speaker 3: vivid end, We've got a fifty.
- 10:38Speaker 2: Million dollars buy back.
- 10:39Speaker 3: On the operational side, I think that's where we really
- 10:42Speaker 3: want to provide investors with, you know, phenomenal exposure to
- 10:47Speaker 3: ethan beyond and I see and beyond because we do
- 10:49Speaker 3: more than just hold eth.
- 10:50Speaker 2: We have an operating in business where we're we're a
- 10:52Speaker 2: block builder.
- 10:53Speaker 3: We represent anywhere between one to three percent of all
- 10:56Speaker 3: transactions that land on ETH with our block builder, and
- 10:59Speaker 3: that includes all the l two is you know that
- 11:01Speaker 3: that's a growing business. It was eighty percent of our
- 11:03Speaker 3: revenue in the last quarter. It was a huge driver
- 11:07Speaker 3: in last year for our revenue. So we think that,
- 11:10Speaker 3: you know that that's a core function. So we have
- 11:12Speaker 3: our Validator Operations, which is basically staking with higher yield
- 11:16Speaker 3: because we do it ourselves. We have our block builder,
- 11:18Speaker 3: which is high high revenue and revenue growth, and we're
- 11:22Speaker 3: looking at other other ways we can generate revenue within
- 11:25Speaker 3: the Ethereum.
- 11:27Speaker 2: Ecosystem because it really, unlike Bitcoin.
- 11:29Speaker 3: Ethereum is a you know, it's a it's a it's
- 11:31Speaker 3: a digital economy and you can.
- 11:33Speaker 2: Build businesses and so that's what we're really looking.
- 11:35Speaker 3: At doing is like how do we expand beyond just Hey,
- 11:39Speaker 3: we're a validator note operator, and.
- 11:41Speaker 2: We're a block builder, and we're.
- 11:43Speaker 3: We're also doing these other things. And we spent a
- 11:45Speaker 3: lot of time researching that.
- 11:47Speaker 2: The a lot of it's built.
- 11:48Speaker 3: We're just trying to figure out the accounting, which we
- 11:50Speaker 3: tend to we like to get the accounting.
- 11:52Speaker 2: Right before we jump in.
- 11:53Speaker 3: I think a lot of these dats have started to
- 11:55Speaker 3: jump into things that they don't understand the accounting side
- 11:58Speaker 3: they're going to pay the price later. But that's kind
- 12:00Speaker 3: of you know, how we see ourselves moving forward.
- 12:03Speaker 1: Okay, so you look at this flash crash, you compare
- 12:06Speaker 1: how retail and traditional traders dealt with this versus institutional.
- 12:13Speaker 1: Did this not really have much of an impact? Do
- 12:15Speaker 1: you feel on the institutional side and this was just
- 12:18Speaker 1: another opportunity for institutions to buy into this.
- 12:21Speaker 2: It depends on the institutions if they were levered.
- 12:24Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean there was I think there's one hundred
- 12:25Speaker 3: and eighty million dollars of ave that was like loans
- 12:28Speaker 3: and ivay that were liquidated, which is great that that
- 12:30Speaker 3: that whole ecosystem and define lending protocol held up and
- 12:35Speaker 3: didn't didn't break. I think there was issues with binance
- 12:39Speaker 3: if I f I recall where there was in that trash.
- 12:42Speaker 3: They had issues and that really speaks to how powerful
- 12:45Speaker 3: defile is. But back to your original questions for institutions,
- 12:49Speaker 3: if they're you know, properly invested and have the right
- 12:53Speaker 3: you know, risk management procedures and policies in place, I
- 12:56Speaker 3: don't think it really made much of a difference at all.
- 12:58Speaker 1: When you look at the ethereum right now, some adjustment adjustment. Now,
- 13:03Speaker 1: do you feel like this is a forty five hundred
- 13:06Speaker 1: dollars ETH first or a thirty five hundred dollars ETH first.
- 13:09Speaker 1: Where do you see this price going?
- 13:11Speaker 3: I mean, I think I'd like to believe it's a
- 13:14Speaker 3: forty five hundred. But again I'm biased. I'm bullish on ETH.
- 13:18Speaker 3: I'm bullistim blockchain. So we'll see, I wouldn't It wouldn't
- 13:21Speaker 3: shock me if you drop back down. These things happened
- 13:23Speaker 3: the market goes down. I think your better question is
- 13:26Speaker 3: where is it going to be at the end of
- 13:27Speaker 3: the year, Where's it going to be a year from now,
- 13:29Speaker 3: Where's it going to.
- 13:29Speaker 2: Be two three years from now? And that that's where
- 13:33Speaker 2: I'm most bullish. Not really.
- 13:35Speaker 1: When you look at the kind of investor that you
- 13:37Speaker 1: guys are are I want to say profiling but attracting,
- 13:41Speaker 1: do you feel like they are in a position where
- 13:44Speaker 1: they are looking at this long term like most ETH holders,
- 13:48Speaker 1: or do you feel like, hey, no, this is this
- 13:51Speaker 1: is kind of the slot that we're looking at for
- 13:54Speaker 1: short and interim burst on investing in the stock market,
- 13:57Speaker 1: and this just is our play on crypto.
- 13:59Speaker 2: Well, look, I.
- 14:00Speaker 3: Love all long term fundamental investors that believe in the
- 14:03Speaker 3: business and having a mix of retail and institutional, because
- 14:06Speaker 3: I think that's the perfect balance. The reality is that
- 14:08Speaker 3: doesn't exist if you're a public company. Anyone can go
- 14:11Speaker 3: buy your stock, and we have a lot of short
- 14:14Speaker 3: term investors that look on a day to day basis.
- 14:16Speaker 3: We have investors that are, you know, buying the stock
- 14:18Speaker 3: and selling covered calls. We have all sorts of investors.
- 14:23Speaker 3: I get emails from investors or messages on DM Well,
- 14:26Speaker 3: they're looking at the technical analysis. And as far as
- 14:29Speaker 3: investors go, I mean, I think it is a public company.
- 14:31Speaker 2: You just you get what you get, and you know, you.
- 14:34Speaker 3: Do your best to try to rope in and get
- 14:37Speaker 3: fundamental investors that believe in the story and management where
- 14:40Speaker 3: you're taking the company.
- 14:41Speaker 1: Yeah, for sure. I'm looking back at this tweet, I
- 14:43Speaker 1: was surprised at how many people think that the market
- 14:46Speaker 1: is bullish right now. This of course happened. We put
- 14:49Speaker 1: this out on the thirteen, just yesterday afternoon, and whether
- 14:52Speaker 1: it was bullish or barrass and then we saw the pullback.
- 14:54Speaker 1: So I think a lot of the market is still
- 14:57Speaker 1: very very bullish on where it's going from here, especially
- 15:01Speaker 1: unto the Clarity Act potentially, and a couple of rate
- 15:04Speaker 1: cuts that still are going to play into this. Do
- 15:06Speaker 1: you feel like that's going to change any of your business?
- 15:09Speaker 1: Rate cuts, Clarity Act again, more positive nature for DeFi,
- 15:13Speaker 1: and obviously crypto overall.
- 15:15Speaker 3: Well, I would break into two categories. So rate cuts
- 15:18Speaker 3: is just general macronach economic effects. It will effect not
- 15:21Speaker 3: really our business, but probably our stock just like any
- 15:23Speaker 3: other stock. The Clarity Act is really big because it's
- 15:26Speaker 3: going to touch on defile.
