- 1:21some of you are not uh lito
- 1:24yes back in rainy england
- 1:26And we've had some beautiful
- 1:27weather here the last couple days.
- 1:29Mid-seventies, sunny.
- 1:32Pretty much the way it was
- 1:34for the age group games.
- 1:36That really nice low humidity,
- 1:39kind of nice weather.
- 1:40And it has hung for ten days now.
- 1:44We've been really, really lucky.
- 1:47Really lucky.
- 1:49I'm bringing water to sheep.
- 1:51There you go.
- 1:55Jody Lynn's in the house.
- 1:57She didn't have to sell cabinets today,
- 1:59probably.
- 1:59Meredith.
- 2:01Man, Shay.
- 2:02Full squad today.
- 2:03This is cool.
- 2:05Cool for Labor Day.
- 2:06Yeah, hey.
- 2:10Gosh,
- 2:11I've been getting over this pneumonia.
- 2:14And I think the antibiotics have, like,
- 2:17really kicked in.
- 2:19I slept so much last night.
- 2:21It's probably the most I've
- 2:22slept in a while.
- 2:26I woke up at ten this
- 2:27morning and can't believe
- 2:32that I slept in that much.
- 2:34And I was like, oh, shoot,
- 2:35I better get a show set up
- 2:36so I can go do some
- 2:37lunchtime with my friends.
- 2:43Jody, no cabinets today,
- 2:45just straight up rest.
- 2:48Yes, beautiful day in Columbus.
- 2:49Preschool closed so I can see alive.
- 2:52There you go, Judy.
- 2:53There you go.
- 2:56Hope you and your husband
- 2:59figured out the price of
- 3:02the tickets for the age
- 3:02group games or didn't.
- 3:04However, you wanted that to go.
- 3:08Love when the marital spats
- 3:10happen in the middle of our chat.
- 3:12That makes for the best chats for sure.
- 3:16Last night's show was wild.
- 3:18We had so much to talk about
- 3:20and so little time involved.
- 3:23I felt like we were rushed last night,
- 3:25but we got in some good discussions.
- 3:29But now we're going to have
- 3:30a little bit of mini kind
- 3:31of off-season to get some
- 3:33more discussions in at
- 3:35length instead of just like
- 3:37kind of getting through everything.
- 3:48Jody,
- 3:48those wall walks did not feel like rest.
- 3:53don't know wall walks never
- 3:54feel like rest when you're
- 3:56trying to support this load
- 3:59of beef upside down it it
- 4:01never goes well for me so
- 4:05yeah so yeah well good
- 4:12times uh everybody's having
- 4:14a a hopefully a nice
- 4:16holiday if you're in the
- 4:17states if you're across the
- 4:19world hope you're having a
- 4:20good work day um
- 4:23But yeah,
- 4:23the one thing I wanted to jump
- 4:25into off the top is it's
- 4:28been a topic of discussion
- 4:30for a couple days now,
- 4:32especially the Savant show
- 4:33for a couple weeks,
- 4:35that there are too many
- 4:36machines now in competitions.
- 4:40And I wanted to kind of look at the why.
- 4:43Like,
- 4:43why are we getting all these machines?
- 4:46I know that we use them in
- 4:48training a lot more.
- 4:49When I started CrossFit in
- 4:54We didn't even have a rower.
- 4:56We didn't have a rower in our gym.
- 4:59We had to do sumo deadlift
- 5:03high pulls as a substitute for the rower.
- 5:11So we would,
- 5:13whenever there was a row in a workout,
- 5:16now granted back then we
- 5:17didn't even have like
- 5:19be on the whiteboard or
- 5:20Wattify or any of those
- 5:22things where you went and
- 5:24got your workout.
- 5:25You showed up for class.
- 5:26The coach went up to the whiteboard,
- 5:29literally wrote the workout on the board.
- 5:31Nobody knew it ahead of time.
- 5:34Um, and then we didn't have rowers.
- 5:38So whenever he wanted to
- 5:40simulate what a row was,
- 5:42we did sumo deadlift high pools.
- 5:46Um,
- 5:49it just seems crazy now that
- 5:51like you look at a
- 5:52competition and this year
- 5:54at the games four of the
- 5:56nine events had machines
- 5:59and wfp this last weekend
- 6:02three of the six had
- 6:03machines and I really
- 6:06wanted to examine why the
- 6:08hell this is happening
- 6:09because one they're not fun to watch
- 6:14If you're a spectator,
- 6:16the last thing you want to
- 6:17see are people standing on
- 6:21a machine or sitting on a
- 6:22machine for a lengthy period of time,
- 6:25especially when you don't
- 6:26know where they're at.
- 6:27Now,
- 6:28the games has done a better job of
- 6:29like having those little
- 6:31digital monitors that tell
- 6:33you like how many meters in
- 6:34they are or how many meters
- 6:36left they have to go,
- 6:37whatever they want to put those at.
- 6:39That has been a step up,
- 6:41but it's still like really
- 6:43not exciting unless you put
- 6:46it at the very end of an
- 6:47event where people have to
- 6:49go nuts on it to finish it.
- 6:54And we've got to figure something out.
- 7:02So I'm looking at some of
- 7:04the comments here.
- 7:07The machines are not the same either.
- 7:10A second or two matters yet
- 7:11nobody speaks of it.
- 7:14Lazy sponsors,
- 7:15they balance out a lot of
- 7:16the other movements that
- 7:17favor smaller athletes.
- 7:21um when people were upset
- 7:24because of all the light
- 7:25athletes burpees gymnastics
- 7:27the answer was get better I
- 7:28agree a lot of machines but
- 7:30why the difference when
- 7:31it's power output I think I
- 7:34just said larry and um I
- 7:36just don't think they're
- 7:37fun to watch uh shanna it's
- 7:40because the events are
- 7:41mostly indoors I don't
- 7:42disagree with that statement
- 7:46Burpees aren't thrilling either.
- 7:48They can be, though.
- 7:49At least you get to count them,
- 7:51and you see people doing them,
- 7:53and they do them at such a fast pace.
- 7:57It's fun to watch.
- 8:00But I truly think it goes back to,
- 8:03and Colton almost said it
- 8:04last night on the Savon podcast,
- 8:08and Jenny was talking about
- 8:09it in a different manner on
- 8:11this podcast in the chat last night.
- 8:14that we are really low on
- 8:17sponsors at events.
- 8:20The vendor villages are getting smaller.
- 8:22The sponsors for the events
- 8:24are getting smaller because
- 8:27we have viewed them in the
- 8:31wrong way and not looked at
- 8:33things creative to help
- 8:34them out as a partnership.
- 8:37So when you look at the games and,
- 8:40one of the main sponsors for
- 8:42the games and whether Bill
- 8:44and Katie want their
- 8:47equipment used in certain
- 8:48ways during the games or not.
- 8:51And they may not request it.
- 8:53It's still,
- 8:54there's an obligation felt from
- 8:57the people running the
- 8:58event that they need to
- 9:00treat their sponsors well.
- 9:03And so at rogue, you had the echo bike,
- 9:06you had the echo rower and
- 9:08you had the woodway, uh,
- 9:10um running machine so those
- 9:14three are rogue apparatus
- 9:16rogue is a major sponsor
- 9:18and it's a way to pay them
- 9:19back for doing for becoming
- 9:22a partner in this event the
- 9:26other thing is c-two is
- 9:28also a sponsor and
- 9:32c-two sponsors the event so
- 9:34then you have the rower or
- 9:37not the rower you had the
- 9:39um ski erg and the c-two
- 9:42bike at the games so that
- 9:44was five of the nine
- 9:46because two of your main
- 9:47sponsors are equipment
- 9:49sponsors are equipment makers of machines
- 9:58The only answer is it needs
- 9:59to be a balanced mix and fun to watch.
- 10:01But more people watch Max's
- 10:03and I know Jamie doesn't like that.
- 10:04Well, Jamie's not on this show.
- 10:06Love Jamie.
- 10:09But lifting and Max's are
- 10:10going to be a part of CrossFit.
- 10:13They just are.
- 10:18uh the original steve miller
- 10:19true too true both madaris
- 10:22and colton had issues with
- 10:24their bike ergs probably
- 10:25were not calibrated right
- 10:26once found a bike erg where
- 10:28I could hold a one-forty
- 10:29pace easy ridiculous um
- 10:37again I said this last night on the show
- 10:41the internet has crushed the WFP.
- 10:43I don't need to jump in and crush more.
- 10:45Um, they didn't do a good job.
- 10:47They need to get better.
- 10:49Um, and I'll just leave it at that.
- 10:56Come on.
- 10:57The NFL has the Duke deflate,
- 11:00deflate gate time.
- 11:02Yeah.
- 11:04I big, that's not a machine.
- 11:06That's not a machine.
- 11:07Um,
- 11:09And those footballs are made
- 11:10right here in Ada, Ohio,
- 11:13just an hour west of us.
- 11:16All NFL footballs are made
- 11:18right here in Ohio.
- 11:24Uh,
- 11:24we did have cheap truck bikes break and
- 11:26Camille Camille's tower.
- 11:28Yeah.
- 11:28CrossFit is not exempt from
- 11:31machines failing.
- 11:33Um, when I was a judge,
- 11:36a lot of our briefing as a judge was,
- 11:39if this thing breaks, this is you,
- 11:41this is the backup.
- 11:43This is what we need you to do.
- 11:46Like, if you look at an air runner,
- 11:47there's a white strip, uh,
- 11:51that comes around every so often.
- 11:53If that monitor goes down,
- 11:54you're counting how many
- 11:55times that white strip goes
- 11:57by as a judge.
- 11:59Um,
- 12:00there is always like a failsafe for
- 12:02equipment breakdowns in
- 12:03judging briefings all the time.
- 12:12Uh,
- 12:17Oh, yeah, I wasn't even hating on WFP.
- 12:20It's just an issue with
- 12:21machines in general.
- 12:22The Echo Bikes at the age
- 12:23group games were dodgy too.
- 12:30Frazier's Go Rucksack, no.
- 12:33And again, that was a sponsored event,
- 12:36right?
- 12:36GORUCK was... That was like
- 12:37the first time they were
- 12:38really sponsoring the event.
- 12:40You had to use their backpack.
- 12:41I don't think it was truly
- 12:45tested out for what they
- 12:47were trying to do with it.
- 12:49The zippers,
- 12:50from my understanding at that Games,
- 12:52on the GORUCKs were not the
- 12:54best quality zippers.
- 12:57And so it...
- 12:59there's always equipment malfunctions,
- 13:00right?
- 13:01It's just when you pile the
- 13:03equipment malfunction.
- 13:05And what I'll say about the
- 13:06Hatfield GHD is,
- 13:09In my experience,
- 13:10the last people to touch
- 13:11those machines before that
- 13:13event goes is the athlete.
- 13:14The athlete always runs out
- 13:16and adjusts the seat or
- 13:17adjusts a piece of the
- 13:19machinery and then goes
- 13:20back to their start.
- 13:23If Austin Hatfield pulled
- 13:24that up and put that lock in where he did,
- 13:28that's on him.
- 13:30I just don't know if we have
- 13:31video footage to show did
- 13:33he adjust the foot pedals or not.
- 13:36But every machine,
- 13:38the last person I see touch
- 13:40it is the athlete.
- 13:44They're always adjusting the damper,
- 13:47the seat,
- 13:48something on the equipment to
- 13:50get it into what they want
- 13:51it to be when they get up there.
- 13:56Yes, Andrew.
- 13:57When you're judging,
- 13:58you're praying there's no
- 13:59machine malfunction.
- 14:01Right.
- 14:01But there are protocols in place,
- 14:03and we're told about them
- 14:04before the event goes live.
- 14:15Give them the time required to check.
- 14:16Do you feel they have enough time?
- 14:19I do feel they have enough time.
- 14:21If the athlete's the last one touching it,
- 14:23then it's on them.
- 14:28And honestly,
- 14:29every time I've ever judged
- 14:31an event and there's been
- 14:32something that can be adjusted,
- 14:34the athlete runs out to their lane,
- 14:36they adjust their machine
- 14:38or whatever apparatus it is.
- 14:41Like I did regionals...
- 14:44linda and they had to bench
- 14:46they all came out and
- 14:47adjust where the the rack
- 14:50was going to be for their
- 14:51bench press all of that
- 14:53kind of stuff put the chalk
- 14:54where they want it to be
- 14:56and they set up everything
- 14:57before they go live I don't
- 15:01know if austin touched that
- 15:02machine or not I know it
- 15:05according to the wfp press
- 15:07release and investigation
- 15:09and by video review of taylor self that
- 15:14that foot peg was on top of
- 15:16the locking mechanism
- 15:18instead of down in and then into a,
- 15:21another hole to lock it.
- 15:23I don't know who put it there.
- 15:25I don't know.
- 15:29But and then Carolyn,
- 15:31this is what came in our chat.
- 15:33We didn't get a chance to
- 15:33talk about this last night.
- 15:36Maybe if athletes stop using
- 15:37the GHD like a leg press machine,
- 15:40and riding it all the way
- 15:41up into the front,
- 15:43it won't have it wouldn't have happened.
- 15:47agree carolyn I don't know
- 15:50what jr showed the simplest
- 15:52way to get people to use
- 15:54the ghd correctly and that
- 15:56was to put a white line on
- 15:57the seat and make sure that
- 15:59your butt was behind the
- 16:01white line and and all of a
- 16:05sudden back at wfp we're
- 16:07back to the wild wild west
- 16:11If that footbed comes out
- 16:13and Austin Hatfield has his
- 16:15butt in the right place,
- 16:16he doesn't come forward.
- 16:20He would actually go back.
- 16:22That's when it would have popped off.
- 16:24It would have popped off
- 16:25when he laid back on the GHD,
- 16:28not when he came up.
- 16:40Hubris is not to copy that.
- 16:45Yeah,
- 16:45God forbid we find a guy that figures
- 16:48out how to make the
- 16:49standard judgeable and doable,
- 16:53and we don't copy that.
- 17:00Hadfield may have landed on his head.
- 17:01Exactly.
- 17:03Exactly, Pete.
- 17:07It's like they didn't want
- 17:08to use an objectively good
- 17:09standard just because
- 17:10CrossFit did it first.
- 17:12I know.
- 17:13It's so dumb.
- 17:17It's so dumb.
- 17:19God forbid we do what's
- 17:21right and make the sport
- 17:23legit because someone else
- 17:25did it before me.
- 17:30It's like street parking
- 17:31coming up with the devil's
- 17:33press and CrossFit refusing
- 17:36to use it for ten years
- 17:38because they didn't come up with it.
- 17:41Like, hubris is all over the place.
- 17:43It's not just WFP.
- 17:45It's everywhere.
- 18:00Was the WFP invented to
- 18:01drive down the selling price of CrossFit?
- 18:03Interesting that there is
- 18:04not a single objective win
- 18:06for the WFP constant Ls.
- 18:08I don't think that is the reason.
- 18:14I don't think they're all Ls.
- 18:15I think they have done some
- 18:16things that have pushed
- 18:18CrossFit to do better.
- 18:20And that's why in the last few months,
- 18:22we have seen a massive leap
- 18:26in changes made at CrossFit.
- 18:28because I think they do feel
- 18:30there is a realistic threat.
- 18:31Whether they could
- 18:32realistically ever take over,
- 18:34I don't know.
- 18:35Probably not.
- 18:37But it has made CrossFit
- 18:38move in a direction that I
- 18:40think makes more sense.
- 18:44Jody says she loves the Devil's Press.
- 18:46Mark Phillips, Jody, are you okay?
- 18:48Yes.
- 18:49That is a valid question to ask Mark.
- 18:59It's not only that,
- 19:00but adding an opportunity
- 19:02where you could use it and
- 19:03just pretending it doesn't exist.
- 19:08I couldn't say it any better than that.
- 19:18I mean,
- 19:18the only person that hates devil's
- 19:20presses is Dave, really.
- 19:25Yeah, the Dave,
- 19:26I don't watch other comps
- 19:27thing is just as bad.
- 19:41I think it's realizing
- 19:42CrossFit comps are harder
- 19:43than anyone admits.
- 19:46Yeah,
- 19:46it's really hard to please this
- 19:47community too.
- 19:50I like the knockoff Sunday
- 19:51night football intros.
- 19:52I do too.
- 19:55And this is where I think
- 19:56the WFP is for me.
- 19:58They do some things like I get it.
- 20:00I get where they're going,
- 20:02but it's like if they just
- 20:04took that next step, right?
- 20:06I think the intros are cool,
- 20:08but they're too vanilla.
- 20:10So once you've seen them once or twice,
- 20:13then the gimmick of it is gone.
- 20:15I want to see the personality of the,
- 20:17of the athlete.
- 20:18Let them introduce
- 20:19themselves how they want to
- 20:21introduce themselves.
- 20:22Tell them they have five seconds, right?
- 20:24Because you need to do it.
- 20:26Boom, boom, boom.
- 20:27But let them have a
- 20:28personality while they do it.
- 20:33Yes.
- 20:34No emotion was crazy.
- 20:39Back in the day when Michael Bennett,
- 20:41former Chicago bear, by the way,
- 20:43Wakanda forever.
- 20:44Yes.
- 20:45Yes.
- 20:48Like,
- 20:49just your name and where you're from
- 20:51is okay, but let them have something.
- 21:03Back on the Dave doesn't
- 21:05watch other comps.
- 21:06To me, as a CO,
- 21:07you would think he would
- 21:07want to know the enemy, LOL, comp,
- 21:10or whatever.
- 21:11Do your due diligence.
- 21:13Well,
- 21:14and I think it goes back more to even
- 21:16what CrossFat says, like the hubris of it,
- 21:19that nobody can create
- 21:21something as good as me,
- 21:23so I don't want to be
- 21:24tainted by what they're doing.
- 21:28No, other people are creative as well.
- 21:30Other people are,
- 21:32like JR has studied Dave.
- 21:35And JR said, this is what I could tweak.
- 21:38This is what I could do better.
- 21:40And because of that,
- 21:42he's come up with some
- 21:43innovative ways to make
- 21:45people hold a standard.
- 21:46Why not use that stuff?
- 22:00Just rumors.
- 22:01I'm sure Dave has other
- 22:02people to do the dirty work for him.
- 22:03I'm sure other people do watch other comps,
- 22:06but Dave should look at
- 22:08least at some things.
- 22:18MJ refused to acknowledge
- 22:19Kobe and LeBron for a long ass time.
- 22:24I mean,
- 22:24I guess part of being great is
- 22:26thinking that you are the best, right?
- 22:28And that nobody else can do
- 22:30it better than you.
- 22:31And that's why MJ was the goat, right?
- 22:34But, and maybe Dave thinks that way too.
- 22:36And for a while he was the best,
- 22:38but now like people, the,
- 22:41The participants are getting
- 22:44as smart as the programmers
- 22:46in finding ways to do
- 22:48things differently so that
- 22:50they can get around the system, right?
- 22:54And so as their technology
- 22:57and their know-how become greater,
- 23:00you as the programmer have
- 23:01to elevate your game as well.
- 23:08So...
- 23:12Anyway, there's that.
- 23:13But I do think we are at a
- 23:16place where sponsorships are down.
- 23:20And one of the few ways to
- 23:22make the sponsors happy is
- 23:25to use their equipment in competitions.
- 23:28And that's why we're getting
- 23:30a lot of machines in competitions.
- 23:35Me personally, I am good at machines.
- 23:38That doesn't mean I want to
- 23:39see them in a competition.
- 23:42I think there are other ways to do things.
- 23:45I think unless you're using
- 23:47it at the very end of a
- 23:48comp and you have to just
- 23:50go all out sprint on it,
- 23:52it's not fun to watch.
- 23:57And I think that trying to
- 23:58grow the sport into a in-person,
- 24:03inside event so it can go
- 24:05overseas is way before
- 24:08we're ready to do that.
- 24:10It has to continue to grow.
- 24:12And the only way to grow
- 24:13that is through a festival atmosphere.
- 24:16They need to find a way to
- 24:18do a festival atmosphere in
- 24:21an economic way.
- 24:24where they can sell cheap
- 24:25tickets in so people can
- 24:27hang out together.
- 24:29And then they have an indoor
- 24:30venue within that festival
- 24:32that have the higher price
- 24:33tickets to go in and see
- 24:35the nighttime events.
- 24:39That is the formula that
- 24:40needs to happen for
- 24:42CrossFit to grow in this
- 24:44part of what they're doing.
- 24:49We cannot go away from the
- 24:50festival type deal.
- 24:53We're not ready.
- 24:54We have not grown enough or
- 24:56grown the right way to do that.
- 25:02It is like you hear them say
- 25:04they weren't ready to go to
- 25:05Carson when they did.
- 25:07was way too big they weren't
- 25:09ready for it and then it
- 25:11actually then they got the
- 25:12reebok deal which helped
- 25:14them kind of grow faster
- 25:15than they should have and
- 25:17now we're just trying to
- 25:18play catch up and we think
- 25:20we're bigger than we are
- 25:26and joseph says the games
- 25:28don't need to go overseas I
- 25:29agree it's too early we
- 25:31have to keep um we have to keep things
- 25:38We have to perfect what it
- 25:39is before we try to make it
- 25:41a traveling show.
- 25:53One thing that became
- 25:54obvious this weekend is
- 25:55that media coverage has to
- 25:56be done by independent media,
- 25:58external broadcasters.
- 25:59Keeping mum about the
- 26:01Hatfield incident during
- 26:02the heat was just stupid.
- 26:05I didn't get that.
- 26:07And I don't disagree.
- 26:15No sponsors outside the
- 26:16spatial focused contributors.
- 26:18Yes, that is a problem.
- 26:20And it's shrinking, shrinking.
- 26:24We have to get back on the right feet.
- 26:28When I saw those videos of
- 26:29Chase Arena in San Francisco,
- 26:33if that's where you're holding the games,
- 26:36God, Lord,
- 26:37help us because there's nothing
- 26:40around there for an outdoor festival,
- 26:43anything kind of vibe.
- 26:45And that arena is way too
- 26:46big for where we are.
- 26:48Way too big.
- 26:50I hope there's somewhere
- 26:51else we're going other than that.
- 27:01That's all we need is a big title sponsor.
- 27:04I don't think that's happening.
- 27:05I don't think that's
- 27:06happening until CrossFit
- 27:07gets their ducks back in a row.
- 27:17Joseph says, no, ever.
- 27:19The game should be like the
- 27:20World Series and Super Bowl,
- 27:21a U.S.-only event.
- 27:24Possibly.
- 27:26I would...
- 27:31I think what was tantalizing
- 27:33about going overseas is
- 27:35CrossFit was growing in Europe at,
- 27:37at big numbers and they
- 27:40wanted to support that, but I don't know.
- 27:50I do think that back to the
- 27:52ranch for the twentieth
- 27:53anniversary is probably on the table.
- 27:56Um,
- 27:59And that's if Dave's even
- 28:01still there when we get new ownership.
- 28:04We don't even know where the
- 28:05hell we are with that.
- 28:14It better be cheap to attend.
- 28:17I think that is the first step.
- 28:20I think you have to look at
- 28:21ticket sales as something of quantity,
- 28:25not quality at first.
- 28:27And that is sell as many
- 28:29freaking tickets as you possibly can.
- 28:31If you can sell.
- 28:33Ten thousand tickets,
- 28:36you can get vendors to show
- 28:37up because there'll be ten
- 28:39thousand people wanting to
- 28:41shop and then vendors show up.
- 28:43Then you have a it's just a
- 28:44better looking overall process for them.
- 28:53Jose says,
- 28:55do it in Europe once every five years.
- 28:58Maybe when we're ready.
- 28:59I just don't think we're ready yet.
- 29:09I think Rich cut the sale
- 29:11that was going to happen.
- 29:13Maybe.
- 29:16Again...
- 29:18I truly feel like an
- 29:19outsider on the sale part of things.
- 29:23And maybe that's a good thing.
- 29:34The one thing I do want to
- 29:35say about WFP before we
- 29:37kind of move on from that is
- 29:41I got some grief in comments
- 29:43that my storyline thing
- 29:45from last week that they
- 29:47put out stuff about it.
- 29:50Here's what I want to say is
- 29:52WFP did finally embrace the
- 29:56race for Copenhagen,
- 29:58but they never told us what that was.
- 30:01They never told us why that
- 30:03was important or why
- 30:05getting to Copenhagen means
- 30:06anything to these athletes.
- 30:10And I'm going to sound like
- 30:11a broken record,
- 30:13but the real storyline is
- 30:15that twenty people were
- 30:17given a gift of pro athlete
- 30:20and free money.
- 30:23There are a group of
- 30:24athletes that want that
- 30:27they felt that they should
- 30:28have had it in the first place,
- 30:30and now they're fighting to get it.
- 30:33That's the storyline.
- 30:35You have twenty athletes who got the gift,
- 30:38ten who won it on both the
- 30:40men and women's side.
- 30:42And now we know they've posted this today.
- 30:45These are the ten athletes
- 30:48that got their ticket to
- 30:50Copenhagen to go up against
- 30:52the twenty pros.
- 30:54So here on the men's side,
- 30:56you have Colton Mertens, Enola Kai,
- 30:57Nick Matthew, Tudor Magda, Jack Farlow,
- 31:00Nate Ackerman, Chris Ibarra,
- 31:02Colin Bossard, Ty Jenkins,
- 31:03and Danny Camacho.
- 31:05On the women's side,
- 31:06because Bethany Flores has withdrew,
- 31:08Yvonne Agriar, Andrea Solberg, Fee Sagafi,
- 31:12Oda Lundefgen, Var Thurman-Mo,
- 31:15Sydney McElishan, Ella Wilkinson,
- 31:18Hannah Black, Lexi Neely, Linda Keisman,
- 31:21and Lydia Fish.
- 31:23So they all get to go to
- 31:23Copenhagen to fight for the
- 31:27opportunity to get a pro
- 31:29card or a free salary for the year.
- 31:33From this point forward,
- 31:36this is so freaking easy.
- 31:39There should be a list of
- 31:42where people stand today if
- 31:44the event ends today.
- 31:47Here are the top twenty point getters.
- 31:49They would be getting the
- 31:50salary next year.
- 31:52Red line,
- 31:54here are the ten or eleven people
- 31:57that don't have it at this moment.
- 32:00That if the season ended today,
- 32:02they would not be getting a pro card.
- 32:06That thing should run from
- 32:08now through the end of that event.
- 32:14Because that is a storyline.
- 32:18And tomorrow I'm going to talk about
- 32:21the proper way that wfp
- 32:22could make inroads into
- 32:25this business but they they
- 32:28have to tell us the story
- 32:30they can't sit here and and
- 32:34think that everybody
- 32:35understands this point
- 32:36system and understands what
- 32:38people are trying to do are
- 32:40they trying to win the
- 32:41event are they trying to win the season
- 32:44First of all,
- 32:45I don't think that winning
- 32:46anything is the important
- 32:47storyline of this event.
- 32:50So to let people make that assumption,
- 32:53you're going down the path
- 32:54and why it doesn't mean anything.
- 32:56What means something to
- 32:58these people is the
- 32:59opportunity to get paid
- 33:00next year and guaranteed
- 33:03paid before they even set
- 33:04foot on the floor.
- 33:09That's the issue.
- 33:10They cannot tell the story.
- 33:13They are terrible at storytelling.
- 33:15They don't know what means
- 33:16anything to anybody.
- 33:17And they could make it
- 33:20something if they just
- 33:22freaking tried to look at
- 33:25another sport and how it works.
- 33:29I watched the NFL
- 33:30religiously all year long.
- 33:33I am looking at if the season end today,
- 33:37these would be the teams in the playoffs.
- 33:39These are the teams fighting
- 33:40for the opportunity to get
- 33:41in the playoffs.
- 33:42All the way to the last week
- 33:44that if this team wins and
- 33:45this team loses and this team ties,
- 33:48they get in and all the
- 33:50different scenarios.
- 33:52They do all of that to create excitement.
- 33:57The WFP has done none of that.
- 34:08We spent an entire week
- 34:09after Selection Sunday
- 34:10bitching about the last four in,
- 34:13first four out.
- 34:14Yes,
- 34:16that's sixty eight teams getting into
- 34:18the NCAA basketball tournament.
- 34:20And we spend a week bitching
- 34:22about the final four of the
- 34:24people who get into the
- 34:26tournament and none of them
- 34:27are going to win it.
- 34:29None of them.
- 34:30None of them are even
- 34:31probably going to have an
- 34:32impact on the tournament at all.
- 34:36But because it's sports and
- 34:38because we care about it so much,
- 34:40that's what you talk about.
- 34:43The WFP has that opportunity.
- 34:45You're trying to get to
- 34:46twentieth place so you get
- 34:48paid next year.
- 34:51Nobody cares about the winners.
- 34:53They're getting their money.
- 34:54They're getting their stuff.
- 34:55It may come down to the last day,
- 34:58and they can go for it,
- 34:59and it becomes a storyline
- 35:01on the last day to be the
- 35:02champion of the season.
- 35:07But up until then,
- 35:07you have a storyline that's right there,
- 35:09and it's an easy graphic.
- 35:12Such an easy graphic.
- 35:13And you can make it in a way
- 35:14that people understand that
- 35:17if the season ended today,
- 35:19these twenty people get paid next year.
- 35:21These ten don't.
- 35:33the original Steve Miller
- 35:33baby steps to compare to
- 35:35NFL and NCAA basketball
- 35:37tournament is a stretch.
- 35:38It is not.
- 35:39It's a storyline.
- 35:41I'm not saying there's going
- 35:42to be successful like them.
- 35:44I'm not saying they're on
- 35:44the same planet as them
- 35:46when it comes to sports,
- 35:48but they can share the same
- 35:49type of storyline.
- 35:51It works.
- 35:52It works in sports.
- 35:55All you have to do is make
- 35:57it a way for the audience
- 35:58to understand it.
- 36:00And they can't do that.
- 36:03They said race to Copenhagen
- 36:06five bazillion times this weekend,
- 36:08and nobody freaking knew what it meant.
- 36:11Nobody knew what it meant.
- 36:13Why is it important to go to Copenhagen?
- 36:16Why does it mean anything to
- 36:17go to Copenhagen?
- 36:18Nobody cares.
- 36:20Nobody knows what that means.
- 36:28Yes,
- 36:28it's a narrow audience who doesn't
- 36:30understand this concept.
- 36:32So you have to spell it out
- 36:33for them so they can see
- 36:35why it means something.
- 36:37We all, as individuals in this world,
- 36:40know what it means to get
- 36:41paid or not to get paid.
- 36:45We know how important that is.
- 36:49So that's where the
- 36:50storyline lies because we
- 36:52all can relate to, do I get paid?
- 36:55Do I not get paid?
- 37:01If you don't base your
- 37:02storyline on the piece that
- 37:04every human in this world understands,
- 37:09then you're missing the boat.
- 37:13You're missing the boat.
- 37:16And without that simple concept,
- 37:19without that simple concept,
- 37:21the rest of it is meaningless.
- 37:24The rest of it is meaningless.
- 37:26I don't care if they win, lose, are good,
- 37:28bad, indifferent.
- 37:30If you don't get people to
- 37:32buy in to a simple
- 37:34storyline for the season,
- 37:36all the rest of it is a wash.
- 37:40That's why we've been
- 37:41begging CrossFit to come up
- 37:43with a season structure that makes sense.
- 37:48If you have to explain it
- 37:49seven different ways,
- 37:50depending on which route the people took,
- 37:53you don't get anybody
- 37:54invested or involved.
- 37:58And I'm tired of saying we
- 37:59can't compare to the other sports.
- 38:01We can because basic
- 38:03storylines are basic storylines.
- 38:05They're based on basic human
- 38:06needs that we all can understand.
- 38:09And that's why we root for
- 38:11the people to be successful.
- 38:17But in this sport test,
- 38:21whatever you want to call it,
- 38:23we ignore the fact that the
- 38:24spectator may want to watch
- 38:26it to find out who is going to win,
- 38:30lose the storyline.
- 38:32We don't even have the storyline.
- 38:46What did people have to
- 38:47place to get their invite
- 38:48this past weekend?
- 38:51But it's more than that, Judy.
- 38:53They could have put,
- 38:58if I could just do the graphics,
- 39:00it would be so easy.
- 39:08The best hardest to watch
- 39:10episodes of Hard Knocks are the cut guys.
- 39:12Yes.
- 39:14We watch Hard Knocks because
- 39:15we're rooting for the
- 39:16underdog to make the team.
- 39:18At that point in the year,
- 39:20is this guy going to have
- 39:22an income for the year?
- 39:23Is he going to fulfill his
- 39:25dreams and make it to the NFL or not?
- 39:28And if he gets cut,
- 39:29it slices you right to the
- 39:32heart when you're watching.
- 39:36The chase to the payday is
- 39:37that's the story.
- 39:38Yes.
- 39:39Yes.
- 39:40It's that simple.
- 39:43If they're handing out free money,
- 39:45who is in line to get it?
- 39:59Tell me who's mathematically
- 40:00eliminated when it happens to.
- 40:02Yes.
- 40:04Yes,
- 40:05these are all basic constructs that
- 40:07have been done over and over again,
- 40:09CrossFit.
- 40:11But there are people in our world,
- 40:13in this fitness world,
- 40:15in this CrossFit world that
- 40:17don't watch sports like you and I do.
- 40:20And they need to be shown
- 40:21this graphically so they
- 40:24can understand why it means something.
- 40:32fluffy fit the dream is the
- 40:34game simple the dream is
- 40:36the I get that when you're
- 40:38not talking about money
- 40:39period the games is the the
- 40:41tip of the spear it's the
- 40:43thing that everybody wants
- 40:44when they first get into
- 40:45the sport but when
- 40:46someone's handing out free
- 40:47money and the rumors are
- 40:49that it's going to be a
- 40:50large sum of money that is
- 40:52a storyline that people will follow
- 41:04That's what made full swing
- 41:05so good for golf.
- 41:06The storylines.
- 41:08Yes.
- 41:14Cross that we need more degenerates.
- 41:15Yes.
- 41:22I know as OG CrossFitters,
- 41:25there is this ideal that
- 41:27the CrossFit games are the
- 41:28best thing in the world and
- 41:29that we all get to play
- 41:30because we get to sign up for the Open.
- 41:32And it's this beautiful
- 41:33thing that goes from
- 41:36beginning of February to
- 41:38the beginning of August.
- 41:40That has been around a long time.
- 41:42But there's also this thing
- 41:45that every sport has had
- 41:47their competitor.
- 41:49And it always comes with money.
- 41:51And people want a share of that money.
- 41:59Fluffy fit.
- 42:00Free money doesn't push
- 42:01people to work as much.
- 42:03Oh, I disagree.
- 42:05If you're Colton Mertens and
- 42:06you feel you should have
- 42:07been offered the free money
- 42:09in the first place and they
- 42:11didn't give it to you and
- 42:12now you have the ability to go take it,
- 42:17tell me that doesn't
- 42:18motivate somebody tell me
- 42:21that doesn't motivate
- 42:21somebody because I bet your
- 42:25damn ass that colton
- 42:27mertens is motivated as
- 42:28hell to go take somebody's
- 42:31free money away from them
- 42:38you're just glossing over
- 42:39the obvious storyline that is here
- 42:42because you don't want to
- 42:44give them any credit.
- 42:45And I'm not giving them credit either.
- 42:49I'm saying they're missing
- 42:50the boat on this.
- 42:55There are storylines here.
- 42:57If they're willing to take
- 42:58them and run with it, they just won't.
- 43:06Not everybody in the world is idealistic.
- 43:10And there's only one
- 43:12CrossFit Games champion.
- 43:14But there are twenty spots
- 43:15to get free money.
- 43:25Colton regularly does kill Taylor.
- 43:26Happens all the time.
- 43:28Yes.
- 43:29people jump on there if
- 43:31there was not money
- 43:32involved and you're
- 43:34training for something
- 43:35you're not going to take a
- 43:36time out of your day to
- 43:40just win for bragging
- 43:42rights now colton may want
- 43:44to do that at times too but
- 43:47there are days where he
- 43:48would stop his training to
- 43:49go to go win a two grand I'm sure
- 44:03All I'm saying is the
- 44:05storyline is written.
- 44:06It's right there.
- 44:07You just have to create the graphic.
- 44:09It ain't a big deal.
- 44:11They could do that and then
- 44:12they could actually start
- 44:13heading in a direction that makes sense.
- 44:17But right now it's like this
- 44:19secret club that they don't
- 44:20want you to really know what's out there.
- 44:23And it doesn't make any sense to me.
- 44:27You have a six-member media team,
- 44:30and you can't get out one
- 44:31graphic of where the real storyline lies?
- 44:36Gosh.
- 44:38I'll take that job and just
- 44:39sit around all day.
- 44:45It wouldn't work without the cash,
- 44:47especially for games-level
- 44:49Jason Colton Tudor James.
- 44:53Correct.
- 44:53Correct.
- 44:57And if,
- 44:58like what Jenny said last night is true,
- 45:01and the sponsorships are
- 45:02dipping and athletes don't
- 45:04have individual sponsors anymore,
- 45:06they're going to be looking
- 45:06for ways to find money
- 45:08somewhere to support
- 45:09themselves through these
- 45:11CrossFit game seasons.
- 45:17Thank you, Steve Miller.
- 45:18Yes, I do agree with this.
- 45:21One hundred percent.
- 45:23everything I said makes
- 45:25sense because I said it
- 45:27just kidding and problem is
- 45:30that people in charge are
- 45:31just clueless that is that
- 45:36is that is the best sum up
- 45:38of what just happened
- 45:43because when I said this
- 45:43last week everybody pointed
- 45:45me to the race for
- 45:46copenhagen but that didn't
- 45:47tell me anything
- 45:54Impression Scott impressions.
- 45:57Yes.
- 46:00all right I'm gonna wrap
- 46:02this thing up it was great
- 46:03football weekend if you're
- 46:05a football fan college
- 46:06football started this
- 46:07weekend so many fourth
- 46:09quarter finishes it was
- 46:11such a fun weekend to watch
- 46:12last night I got off the
- 46:13show watched miami notre
- 46:15dame last night my our
- 46:17miami was up by ten notre
- 46:19dame tied the game my miami
- 46:21had to then drive down the
- 46:22field get a field goal
- 46:24notre dame had one last
- 46:25shot what a great way to
- 46:26start the college football season
- 46:29Texas-Ohio State was a close game.
- 46:32LSU-Clemson was a close game.
- 46:35I'm sure we'll talk about
- 46:35that a little bit with our
- 46:37resident Louisianian on Wednesday.
- 46:41But fun stuff to watch.
- 46:43Tonight we get Bill
- 46:44Belichick in his first
- 46:45college football game.
- 46:47Tonight on Monday Night Football.
- 46:49And then Thursday night it all begins.
- 46:52NFL action Thursday night.
- 46:55Cowboys-Eagles get that kicked off.
- 46:59I do have fantasy football
- 47:01invites out to people.
- 47:02We got enough to start a league.
- 47:04So that'll probably be a
- 47:05yearly thing here.
- 47:07Moving forward is we'll do a
- 47:09fantasy football league.
- 47:12So if you put that you were
- 47:13interested in the chat,
- 47:15I sent you a return message
- 47:17on where to get me your email.
- 47:18And then invites are going
- 47:20out as quickly as I can get them back in.
- 47:24So there's that going on.
- 47:26And then I got to watch
- 47:27Thunderbolts this weekend.
- 47:30God, what a good movie.
- 47:32I have been out on the
- 47:34Marvel Universe for a couple years now.
- 47:39But man, I love the Thunderbolts.
- 47:43It was just good old-fashioned fun movie.
- 47:46Yelena has always been one
- 47:47of my favorite characters.
- 47:52For her to get her due in
- 47:53this movie and the way it
- 47:54was done was awesome.
- 47:56She is Black Widow's sister,
- 47:57if you're not super
- 47:59familiar with the Marvel Universe.
- 48:01That character was played by
- 48:02Scarlett Johansson.
- 48:03This is Florence Pugh, plays Yelena,
- 48:08her sister.
- 48:09and she is every bit as
- 48:11talented as black widow but
- 48:12has much more edge to her
- 48:14and I love that um I give
- 48:16that movie an a minus I
- 48:19feel like it's marvel
- 48:20universe getting back to
- 48:22what they do best um really
- 48:24fun to watch and it's
- 48:25streaming free on disney
- 48:27plus so um I'm glad bob
- 48:34from maverick just plays
- 48:35himself again I thought
- 48:36that was the best joke of
- 48:37the whole movie that
- 48:40in maverick he was just bob
- 48:42no call signs um and then
- 48:44in this movie they they
- 48:46want to know more about him
- 48:47and he's just bob he's just
- 48:49bob and he's bill pullman's
- 48:51son so that's pretty cool
- 48:54uh but yeah great movie
- 48:57really enjoyed it uh again
- 49:00streaming on disney plus if
- 49:01you want to check it out
- 49:04Other than that,
- 49:05today I'm just going to be chilling,
- 49:07trying to recover from this
- 49:08pneumonia and try to get
- 49:10back into some editing
- 49:15throughout the day.
- 49:17And we'll get some stuff out to you.
- 49:18I still have got to get that
- 49:20Hattie part two out.
- 49:21And then I've got some stuff
- 49:22from the age group games
- 49:23I'm working on as well.
- 49:25So that'll be coming out as well.
- 49:28With that, guys,
- 49:30got a little heated today.
- 49:32Love that.
- 49:33Love when you guys get me
- 49:34all fired up with that.
- 49:36Tomorrow,
- 49:37I'm going to talk about if I were the WFP,
- 49:40how do I write the ship and
- 49:44what are the strategic
- 49:46steps to take to make a comeback?
- 49:50And they won't listen,
- 49:52so it's no big deal.
- 49:53And it'll probably just fall on deaf ears.
- 49:56But I'm going to do that tomorrow.
- 49:59With that, gosh,
- 50:01I've got to go back to work tomorrow.
- 50:02With that,
- 50:03I hope you guys in the States
- 50:04are having a great Labor Day.

- 50:07just have a great rest of your day.
