- 0:41Over at YouTube Music Search for Elon Musk podcast.
- 0:46Tesla has issued a recall for all 3878 cyber trucks.
- 0:51It is delivered due. To a defect.
- 0:53Where the accelerator pedal can become stuck, increasing the
- 0:56risk of accidents for the drivers and the people inside
- 1:00the vehicle, as well as other vehicles on the road.
- 1:02Now the issue has been identified by the National
- 1:05Highway Traffic Safety Administration or the NHTSA,
- 1:08which noted the potential for the pedal to lodge in the trim
- 1:11around the footwell, posing a serious safety risk.
- 1:15Now this recall makes a challenging period for Tesla
- 1:18following workforce deductions exceeding 10% or 14,000 people,
- 1:24and the departure of key executives earlier in this week.
- 1:27These events were compounded by a legal set back involving CEO
- 1:30Elon Musk's compensation package, which shareholders are
- 1:34now reconsidering after a judge's ruling.
- 1:38A complaints about the cybertruck's faulty accelerator
- 1:41pedal emerged recently, prompting Tesla to halt
- 1:43deliveries temporarily as it addresses the defect On social
- 1:48media, Musk emphasize the company's cautious approach,
- 1:51stating that there have been no incidents or injuries reported
- 1:55in relation to this defects and nobody's been hurt yet, which is
- 1:58great. And Tesla confirmed the
- 2:00technical cause of the problem to the NHTSA, linking it to an
- 2:04unauthorized use of lubricant during the assembly process
- 2:08which compromised the pedals attachment.
- 2:10This discovery led to the decision on April 12th to
- 2:13proceed with a full recall of the cyber trucks.
- 2:16Company plans to rectify the issue by replacing or repairing
- 2:20the accelerator pedals on all affected cybertrucks.
- 2:23Additionally, Tesla has begun incorporating a redesigned pedal
- 2:27in new vehicles and is addressing units currently in
- 2:30transit or at delivery centers. Now, despite the Cybertruck only
- 2:34beginning shipments late the previous year, this isn't its
- 2:37first recall. An earlier, less severe recall
- 2:40involved updating software across all Tesla models due to a
- 2:45font size of the warning lights. Now, Tesla's first revealed the
- 2:50Cyber Truck in 2019, but its launch was delayed until last
- 2:54year due to production challenges and supply issues
- 2:57related to his batteries. The recent recalls and other
- 2:59setbacks have not only affected Tesla's operational momentum,
- 3:02also its stock value, which saw a significant decline in the
- 3:05past week. The Drive reported that drivers
- 3:08experiencing stuck pedals could still halt their cyber trucks
- 3:11using the brake, although the vehicle will continue to move
- 3:15slightly now. This flaw raised concerns over
- 3:17the vehicle's safety during operation.
- 3:20Social media posts from Tesla owners indicated temporary halts
- 3:23in Cybertruck deliveries, with some reporting issues with the
- 3:26accelerator pedal getting wedged.
- 3:28The community response included sharing videos on social media
- 3:32and photos that highlight the defects impact on pedal
- 3:35functionality which grew greater attention to this defect.
- 3:41Now despite no injuries or accidents, the seriousness of
- 3:45the potential risk prompted Tesla to take swift action about
- 3:48this. Musk reiterated on X that the
- 3:51company's focus on safety and the precautionary steps being
- 3:54taken are all about safety being the priority.
- 3:58A recently Tesla Cyber Truck customers noted on X that
- 4:02deliveries have resumed with updates on Vins and scheduled
- 4:05delivery dates, indicating that Tesla is progressing with fixes
- 4:09and addressing customer concerns, effectively Tesla's
- 4:13proactive measures in resolving the pedal issue.
- 4:15Show. That they maintain high safety
- 4:18standards going forward. With the Cyber Truck, the
- 4:21automaker has historically emphasized safety in his vehicle
- 4:24designs, aiming to position his models as leaders in the
- 4:27respective categories. Now, as Tesla addresses the
- 4:30recent challenge, it's implementing both hardware
- 4:33replacements and production adjustments and will update
- 4:36software when needed. And the approach aims to ensure
- 4:39that all new and existing cyber trucks meet stringent safety
- 4:42criteria before they are delivered to customers.
- 4:45And in response to the recall, Tesla has announced that
- 4:47affected vehicle owners will receive notification letters in
- 4:50June outlining the details and instructions for remedying the
- 4:54accelerator pedal issue at no cost to the owners.
- 4:57The first quarter of 2024 has seen Tesla recall approximately
- 5:012.4 million vehicles across various models for different
- 5:04issues, according to Busy Car. While most of these recalls are
- 5:08typically resolved with software updates, the current situation
- 5:11requires a more hands on approach where you have to take
- 5:14it to the shop or they can come to you.
- 5:16And besides the accelerator pedal recall, Tesla has recently
- 5:19addressed other safety concerns through recalls, such as a
- 5:22significant recall in February concerning warning light font
- 5:26sizes. Furthermore, an ongoing
- 5:28investigation into power steering issues by US safety
- 5:30regulators has been escalated to an engineering analysis.
- 5:35But Tesla was swift about this. They are concerned for the
- 5:39safety of their drivers. That's one of the major key
- 5:42features that Tesla offers that some other automakers don't, but
- 5:48they have ongoing efforts to innovate and approve the vehicle
- 5:50lineup, and they're resilient in the face of operational changes.
- 5:54The company continues to adapt its production and quality
- 5:57assurance processes to prevent future issues for the Cybertruck
- 6:01and all other vehicles in their lineup.
