- 0:12Speaker 1: listening to Movie Meltdown, you are.
- 0:17Speaker 2: Good.
- 0:23Speaker 3: The following feature has been rated R by the Motion
- 0:26Speaker 3: Picture Association of America. It is intended for mature audiences
- 0:29Speaker 3: and parental discretion is advised.
- 0:42Speaker 2: It's showtime, folks.
- 0:44Speaker 4: Enjoy the show.
- 0:47Speaker 5: Our nuclear reactor pumping out one million kilowatts of power.
- 1:17Speaker 6: What's up and welcome to Movie Meltdown.
- 1:19Speaker 4: I'm Brian.
- 1:20Speaker 7: I'm Jacqueline.
- 1:47Speaker 4: I'm Nick.
- 1:49Speaker 8: I'm Jeff. I'm Ben.
- 1:51Speaker 9: And we're here for a very special episode. I wasn't
- 1:55Speaker 9: even sure, like going in, this was such a huge topic.
- 1:58Speaker 9: I was like, can I even address it? Can we
- 2:01Speaker 9: even touch everything that's going to go into this? And then, Ben,
- 2:05Speaker 9: it's mostly your fault. We started talking and this happened.
- 2:10Speaker 8: I'm perfectly prepared to talk about the 52nd anniversary of
- 2:12Speaker 8: Doctor Who. I brought notes. I brought action figures to
- 2:16Speaker 8: kind of set the scene.
- 2:17Speaker 9: I mean, this weekend, a big movie came out. So
- 2:20Speaker 9: I'm assuming we're all here to talk about sisters. I
- 2:24Speaker 9: love Tina Fey. All right, fine. I saw that release date.
- 2:30Speaker 9: I was like, oh. I was like, I guess they
- 2:32Speaker 9: were going for counter-programming, but damn.
- 2:35Speaker 8: I was like, that's harsh.
- 2:36Speaker 10: Well, didn't she make some announcement like, She says Disney
- 2:41Speaker 10: approached her to get her to move back the release
- 2:43Speaker 10: date so that they wouldn't segregate the crowds.
- 2:47Speaker 9: She's like, hell no. Tina Fey, damn it. I'll do
- 2:50Speaker 9: what I want. So yes, we're here for Star Wars.
- 2:57Speaker 9: Ben and I have given our rambling... tearful childhood memories
- 3:01Speaker 9: on a previous episode.
- 3:02Speaker 8: Several.
- 3:03Speaker 9: Several.
- 3:04Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah.
- 3:04Speaker 9: Certainly if we can include your crossover episodes.
- 3:07Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 3:07Speaker 9: I think that the, the most special magic one for
- 3:10Speaker 9: me was the, I believe, my charming title for, um,
- 3:14Speaker 9: episodes is, um, Show me on the doll where the
- 3:18Speaker 9: movie touched you. So go ahead and Google that, people,
- 3:21Speaker 9: and find that episode.
- 3:22Speaker 8: I believe one was called Lukewarm Skywalker, too. That one
- 3:25Speaker 8: was pretty good.
- 3:26Speaker 9: These are all classic episodes. So we've sort of covered
- 3:29Speaker 9: how old school ours are. So I was going to
- 3:31Speaker 9: at least let the rest of you guys give a
- 3:33Speaker 9: little intro, how your history with Star Wars came to
- 3:38Speaker 9: be and what your take on it, before we even
- 3:41Speaker 9: get into the new movie, just as a whole, as
- 3:43Speaker 9: a subject, franchise.
- 3:47Speaker 6: Well, I mean, we had the collection at the time.
- 3:50Speaker 11: It was just four, five, and six.
- 3:52Speaker 9: On what format would that be?
- 3:54Speaker 11: VHS.
- 3:54Speaker 4: Oh, nice.
- 3:55Speaker 6: And I would watch it on my very small, like what,
- 3:58Speaker 6: like six or seven inch television with the built-in VHS.
- 4:01Speaker 8: Can I ask you, what age range are you?
- 4:04Speaker 11: I'm 24.
- 4:05Speaker 8: You're 24, okay.
- 4:05Speaker 9: None of your goddamn business, sir.
- 4:08Speaker 8: Oh, no, that's very important, because, you know.
- 4:10Speaker 9: It kind of, it does start to factor in as
- 4:12Speaker 9: you get into these.
- 4:13Speaker 8: I'm the old coot who, like, saw it when I
- 4:16Speaker 8: was five, so.
- 4:17Speaker 9: I saw it in the theater.
- 4:18Speaker 10: That's my story, too.
- 4:19Speaker 8: All right, cool.
- 4:20Speaker 6: I mean, I saw it when I was five, too,
- 4:21Speaker 6: but it was just a different time.
- 4:23Speaker 9: I was discussing that today, because, like, I had someone
- 4:26Speaker 9: telling me, like, that they were sort of upset that, like,
- 4:29Speaker 9: they were saying the new movies, like, these are for
- 4:32Speaker 9: our generation, and then, like, the prequel people were like, no,
- 4:35Speaker 9: and I'm like, no, these are all, like... Because they're
- 4:37Speaker 9: so weird and timeless, they're kind of every generation. Every
- 4:41Speaker 9: group of kids that comes along, no matter how they
- 4:43Speaker 9: saw it, in theater, on VHS, on DVD, each group
- 4:47Speaker 9: of kids is like, this is my Star Wars. I
- 4:50Speaker 9: think we all kind of have the same stories, just
- 4:52Speaker 9: different formats.
- 4:53Speaker 8: There is one huge difference between you being five and
- 4:55Speaker 8: seeing it on your VCR and me being five and
- 4:57Speaker 8: seeing it in a movie theater. I couldn't watch it
- 5:00Speaker 8: over again.
- 5:01Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 5:01Speaker 8: You got to watch it probably over and over and
- 5:04Speaker 8: over and over.
- 5:05Speaker 6: I came home from elementary school every single day, popped
- 5:08Speaker 6: in Return of the Jedi, and fell asleep.
- 5:09Speaker 11: That was my little ritual.
- 5:12Speaker 10: Well, I mean, again, everyone's story is equally as important
- 5:17Speaker 10: as far as Star Wars, but I know, so I'm
- 5:19Speaker 10: going to assume that I was born in 72. I
- 5:21Speaker 10: take it you were so.
- 5:22Speaker 4: Okay, so... 1956 for me.
- 5:22Speaker 9: So, as a five-year-old seeing Star Wars.
- 5:31Speaker 10: And this is sort of a story I always tell.
- 5:33Speaker 10: The top grossing science fiction movie of the year before
- 5:37Speaker 10: was Logan's Run.
- 5:39Speaker 9: Which is also awesome.
- 5:41Speaker 10: Don't get me wrong. I'm not disrespecting Logan's Run at
- 5:43Speaker 10: all because it's a fantastic movie. But if you look
- 5:45Speaker 10: at Logan's Run and then see Star Wars, it's like
- 5:49Speaker 10: there's a whole hundred years of movie advancement that went
- 5:54Speaker 10: on between those two. It is such a radically different
- 5:58Speaker 10: looking movie.
- 5:58Speaker 8: Funny story. Last year was the first time I saw
- 6:01Speaker 8: a Logan's Run. That's it.
- 6:05Speaker 9: Your light's flashing.
- 6:06Speaker 8: You're done.
- 6:06Speaker 10: You know, so you make a good point. When we
- 6:11Speaker 10: saw it, it was one and done. You had to go.
- 6:14Speaker 9: It was a big event.
- 6:15Speaker 10: And even then, I mean, I don't remember in this
- 6:19Speaker 10: area any hype about Star Wars as far as, you know, hey,
- 6:23Speaker 10: there's a science fiction movie. Let's go see it. And then, boom,
- 6:26Speaker 10: my mind was blown.
- 6:28Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 6:28Speaker 10: You know?
- 6:29Speaker 4: Mm-hmm.
- 6:29Speaker 10: I don't remember any hype. I don't remember any news
- 6:32Speaker 10: about it other than, let's go see this movie. And
- 6:34Speaker 10: holy fucking shit, where did this movie come from?
- 6:39Speaker 6: My mind was not blown when I went to see
- 6:41Speaker 6: episode one with Jar Jar Binks.
- 6:43Speaker 11: I was like, meh. My mind is not blown by this.
- 6:45Speaker 10: You know, and again, I think it's unfair to say, well,
- 6:50Speaker 10: the people that like the prequels, you know, Don't count. Well,
- 6:54Speaker 10: it's all about, you know, you getting wrapped up in
- 6:56Speaker 10: the magic. And it's easy for me to remember what
- 6:59Speaker 10: it was like because there was nothing before or after
- 7:02Speaker 10: Star Wars. You know, it came out of nowhere and
- 7:04Speaker 10: was this huge cultural phenomenon. And as a five year
- 7:08Speaker 10: old who you didn't really have the concept of, oh,
- 7:11Speaker 10: I'm a geek or a nerd or whatever at the time.
- 7:13Speaker 10: It's like, holy crap, this is. this is the most
- 7:16Speaker 10: perfect movie for a five-year-old to ever see like me.
- 7:19Speaker 9: And it sort of defines you. And I think a
- 7:22Speaker 9: lot of that whole generation realized that. That was my thing.
- 7:26Speaker 9: On that episode, I was like, that's the moment I went, oh,
- 7:29Speaker 9: I like this. And I don't know that that ever
- 7:32Speaker 9: pinned anything down as much as Star Wars. And then
- 7:36Speaker 9: it became more of just movies in general. But that's
- 7:38Speaker 9: kind of the first one I remember seeing in the theater.
- 7:41Speaker 9: I remember being there. And it set the precedent. From
- 7:45Speaker 9: there on, I was just like, oh, this theater thing
- 7:48Speaker 9: is kind of cool. And everything that it brings with
- 7:51Speaker 9: it is kind of what I'm into. And I don't
- 7:54Speaker 9: think I ever had that before. Nothing ever kind of
- 7:57Speaker 9: got as close after that.
- 7:58Speaker 8: I think I had the opposite reaction because nothing for
- 8:00Speaker 8: me was ever as good as Star Wars.
- 8:02Speaker 9: Well, that's arguable as well.
- 8:04Speaker 8: I'm so interested in the fact that you first saw
- 8:07Speaker 8: it on VHS. And I guess you did.
- 8:09Speaker 4: Too, right? Oh, yeah.
- 8:10Speaker 9: We skipped over you.
- 8:12Speaker 8: I'm so sorry. Oh, no, no. But it's like I
- 8:15Speaker 8: think I became obsessed with it because I've talked about
- 8:18Speaker 8: this before on those episodes that you mentioned. I'll give
- 8:20Speaker 8: a brief recap. Like back back in the old days
- 8:25Speaker 8: when I was a kid, it seemed like a movie
- 8:27Speaker 8: would come out. It would be in the theater and
- 8:29Speaker 8: then it would vanish forever. There was never any kind
- 8:32Speaker 8: of conception that you would ever see a movie again.
- 8:34Speaker 9: First, it would hang around in the theater, blowing kids' minds.
- 8:37Speaker 9: For like six to eight months sometimes, if it was
- 8:40Speaker 9: a popular movie. Star Wars was way longer than that.
- 8:42Speaker 9: But once it was gone, you didn't see it again.
- 8:46Speaker 9: It was done.
- 8:46Speaker 8: I think what turned me into an obsessive little geeky
- 8:50Speaker 8: kid is because I was so enraptured by it, I
- 8:54Speaker 8: tried to do whatever I could to remember it. So
- 8:57Speaker 8: it's like all the toys, I would keep all of
- 8:58Speaker 8: the packaging because the packaging had pictures. And that was
- 9:02Speaker 8: a scene. And I remember what happened in that scene.
- 9:04Speaker 8: I would get the books. I would study every picture
- 9:09Speaker 8: that I could get because that was the only way
- 9:11Speaker 8: I had of seeing it again, to my mind. And
- 9:14Speaker 8: that turned me into this obsessive little monster where I
- 9:17Speaker 8: would keep everything. Were you the same one?
- 9:20Speaker 9: That's why we're hoarders now.
- 9:22Speaker 10: Well, and again, it's... Before Star Wars, there wasn't sort
- 9:28Speaker 10: of this multi-pronged attack on your youth as far as
- 9:32Speaker 10: the movies. And, I mean, I remember... So, Kroger had
- 9:38Speaker 10: these giant comic books that they would give out for
- 9:40Speaker 10: free from shopping at Kroger. And they were basically Marvel's
- 9:44Speaker 10: versions of Star Wars. You know, and I mean... Mom,
- 9:49Speaker 10: we've got to go to Kroger and get these comic books.
- 9:51Speaker 9: A grocery store if you live in another part of
- 9:53Speaker 9: the country.
- 9:54Speaker 10: Right. Or world. And then, um you know i remember
- 9:57Speaker 10: sending off the proofs of purchase to get the six-pack
- 10:01Speaker 10: action figure you know that had those and it was
- 10:04Speaker 10: i mean there was there was nothing like that existed
- 10:08Speaker 10: before that so so as much as i may i
- 10:11Speaker 10: malign george lucas for what he became um The way
- 10:16Speaker 10: that everything just hooked into the kids at the time
- 10:19Speaker 10: and it just all enveloped you. It never happened before.
- 10:23Speaker 10: Other shows that had, and again, I'm not sure, did
- 10:27Speaker 10: Space Like 1999 and Battlestar Galactica. Battlestar Galactica was after that,
- 10:30Speaker 10: but Space 1999 had toys.
- 10:31Speaker 9: It had toys because I think I ended up with
- 10:33Speaker 9: that giant ship secondhand.
- 10:35Speaker 10: But nothing was as awesome as... Star Wars action figures.
- 10:39Speaker 8: Oh, my God.
- 10:40Speaker 10: And then getting the Sears and JCPenney Christmas catalogs and
- 10:45Speaker 10: being like, I want that.
- 10:46Speaker 8: And I want that. And I want that.
- 10:48Speaker 10: You know, it just.
- 10:50Speaker 8: And again, the toys, it was a way of me
- 10:52Speaker 8: trying to preserve it in my memory.
- 10:54Speaker 4: It is.
- 10:54Speaker 8: So I'm really curious because you could essentially fall asleep
- 10:58Speaker 8: to it every night.
- 10:59Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 11:01Speaker 8: Did you feel as obsessive, like, ooh, I want stuff
- 11:04Speaker 8: from it, or was just having the movie good enough,
- 11:07Speaker 8: and you knew that you liked it?
- 11:08Speaker 2: Oh, no.
- 11:09Speaker 6: Well, at that time, it wasn't that the movie came out,
- 11:13Speaker 6: you never saw it again. It was like you were
- 11:15Speaker 6: bombarded from every possible.
- 11:18Speaker 11: Venue, like Star Wars, Star Wars, Star Wars, everything.
- 11:23Speaker 6: At any point, you go to the toy section of
- 11:25Speaker 6: the store, it's just like, a wall for Star Wars.
- 11:27Speaker 6: You go to the, like, book section, there's, like, a wall.
- 11:30Speaker 9: For kids and Star Wars. And that depends, it depends
- 11:32Speaker 9: which time period you, because it bounced back and forth,
- 11:35Speaker 9: because there's also those dark times, that, like, 10-year period
- 11:38Speaker 9: in the middle where, like, not only was there no merchandise,
- 11:41Speaker 9: but it wasn't really cool to like Star Wars anymore.
- 11:43Speaker 11: I mean, I had a Star Wars Lego set.
- 11:45Speaker 9: Before the re-release, it was the dark times for geeks, and, like,
- 11:50Speaker 9: you were just as much a Star Trek geek if
- 11:52Speaker 9: you liked Star Wars, you know? It was like, we
- 11:54Speaker 9: were all kind of shunned the same... nerdy way and
- 11:58Speaker 9: like it wasn't until they started doing that redo to
- 12:01Speaker 9: when they did the thx and they put it back
- 12:03Speaker 9: in theaters before they doctored it up that first time
- 12:06Speaker 9: was the first time they were like oh okay wait
- 12:09Speaker 9: this is cool again and they started making like they
- 12:11Speaker 9: brought out that new wave of toys.
- 12:13Speaker 8: I think what also happened is the five-year-olds like me
- 12:17Speaker 8: suddenly had jobs and had money and.
- 12:20Speaker 9: The curse of gen xers yeah it really is it's.
- 12:22Speaker 8: Like I feel, Tara, we've skipped over you. Tell us,
- 12:25Speaker 8: what movie did you fall asleep to every night?
- 12:29Speaker 12: Well, like her, I had episodes four, five, and six
- 12:34Speaker 12: on VHS. I also bought some novels, like books, but
- 12:41Speaker 12: they didn't come out contemporaneously with the original.
- 12:43Speaker 9: I had the novels, yeah. Actually, I ran across it
- 12:45Speaker 9: again when we were constantly rummaging through boxes.
- 12:48Speaker 10: So you never did, like, Splinters of the Mind's Eye
- 12:50Speaker 10: or the Han Solo trilogy or the Lionel Calrissian trilogy?
- 12:53Speaker 6: I had some weird book of, like, lore that I found, like, old, like,
- 12:58Speaker 6: thousands of years before, like, New Hope came out.
- 13:01Speaker 11: It's like, that's where this book of lore took place.
- 13:04Speaker 2: That's crazy.
- 13:06Speaker 11: I spent a lot of time memorizing that stuff. I'm like,
- 13:08Speaker 11: who even came up with this? This is just trying
- 13:11Speaker 11: to get money.
- 13:12Speaker 8: It's so weird. It's like, I love the movie so
- 13:14Speaker 8: much that I tried to read the novels and they
- 13:17Speaker 8: started going in weird places. And I became one of those,
- 13:20Speaker 8: if it ain't on the screen, I don't care, guys.
- 13:22Speaker 8: And I'm probably terrible. But I will say it's not
- 13:27Speaker 8: bit me in the ass now because I didn't invest
- 13:29Speaker 8: years of my life into the spinoff novels because now
- 13:32Speaker 8: suddenly Disney said, oh, those don't count anymore. So I
- 13:35Speaker 8: didn't feel that burn as much as you might have.
- 13:37Speaker 9: They're still there. They're legends now.
- 13:39Speaker 10: Well, and again, it's... Star Wars legends. At the time,
- 13:44Speaker 10: you know... Kids these days are lucky because the whole
- 13:49Speaker 10: universe of things is now groomed and tailored. Whereas it
- 13:53Speaker 10: was the wild, wild west back then. Marvel came out
- 13:56Speaker 10: with their... Marvel bought the rights to Star Wars and
- 13:59Speaker 10: they came out with their whole thing that introduced rabbit
- 14:02Speaker 10: guys that looked like Bugs Bunny.
- 14:03Speaker 8: I had those too.
- 14:04Speaker 9: That was fucking awesome. I had those too.
- 14:05Speaker 8: I love that guy.
- 14:06Speaker 5: And that was....
- 14:09Speaker 10: I never really followed a whole lot of the extended universe,
- 14:12Speaker 10: but they were hit and miss. Like, you'd have a
- 14:13Speaker 10: good writer do some awesome stuff, and then you'd have
- 14:16Speaker 10: crap writers who just... If we slap Star Wars on it,
- 14:19Speaker 10: the kids will buy any crap that we talk about.
- 14:21Speaker 9: Did you read Splendor of the Mind's Eye?
- 14:23Speaker 10: Oh, God, as a kid, I devoured that.
- 14:25Speaker 9: It goes so in weird directions that you're like, oh,
- 14:28Speaker 9: this doesn't match the story when Empire comes along.
- 14:31Speaker 10: And you know why? Because he didn't think there'd be
- 14:35Speaker 10: Empire Strikes Back. He didn't know whether there'd be Empire
- 14:38Speaker 10: Strikes Back. So Splinter of the Mind's Eye was just,
- 14:42Speaker 10: we can make this one on a cheaper budget than
- 14:44Speaker 10: Star Wars and still make a film from it.
- 14:47Speaker 9: And I feel like a lot of those big reveals
- 14:49Speaker 9: that came in part two and part three, I think
- 14:52Speaker 9: a lot of that was on the fly. Especially part
- 14:54Speaker 9: three's big reveal. I'm like, I think he came up
- 14:57Speaker 9: with that one. No matter what lies he told us later,
- 14:59Speaker 9: I think a lot of that sibling thing came up
- 15:03Speaker 9: right at the end.
- 15:04Speaker 10: Well, and again, I think that George Lucas has a
- 15:06Speaker 10: problem with revising his past. Oh, he definitely does. He
- 15:11Speaker 10: just can't accept that the past was the past. And,
- 15:14Speaker 10: you know, I didn't know what I was doing or
- 15:16Speaker 10: I had a crappy idea. He can't accept that.
- 15:18Speaker 9: Which they, I mean, I've recently heard people discussing some
- 15:22Speaker 9: of the stuff in that original, original draft. Oh, we're like.
- 15:27Speaker 9: Or whatever all that nonsense was. And like, It was insane.
- 15:31Speaker 9: And I'm like, that would not have taken off. Like,
- 15:34Speaker 9: don't kid yourself, Lucas. Like, there's a reason it got
- 15:37Speaker 9: honed to what it is and why that worked.
- 15:40Speaker 13: It was always like that.
- 15:41Speaker 10: Well, and again.
- 15:43Speaker 9: In his mind.
- 15:43Speaker 10: A lot of things, you know, we give credit to
- 15:47Speaker 10: one person for the vision of something, but a lot
- 15:49Speaker 10: of times it's this doctoring of four or five people.
- 15:52Speaker 10: And Lucas was only good when he had other people
- 15:56Speaker 10: sort of steering him.
- 15:58Speaker 9: Or bouncing ideas off him.
- 15:59Speaker 10: But when left to his own, Lucas comes up with crap.
- 16:03Speaker 2: Cantina.
- 16:05Speaker 13: What?
- 16:07Speaker 10: At the time, so that was mind-blowingly awesome.
- 16:10Speaker 12: It probably inspired like 10,000 kids to play clarinet.
- 16:14Speaker 9: Or like to go get one.
- 16:18Speaker 10: You know, but it was the, you know, Kasdan and
- 16:21Speaker 10: all the other people around him that sort of made
- 16:24Speaker 10: They sort of reigned him in, but as it got
- 16:26Speaker 10: more and more popular, you couldn't reign in Lucas.
- 16:29Speaker 9: Well, and he got more and more powerful in the industry. Specifically,
- 16:33Speaker 9: back to the toy thing, you do know that that
- 16:35Speaker 9: was his deal, because he'd made American Graffiti before Star Wars,
- 16:39Speaker 9: and it did moderately well. And they were like, oh,
- 16:42Speaker 9: you can probably bump up your asking price as a
- 16:44Speaker 9: director to do this next movie. And he was like, nah,
- 16:46Speaker 9: it's okay. I'll take the set director amount. I just
- 16:49Speaker 9: want some points on the merchandising. And they were like... idiot, okay, merchandising.
- 16:55Speaker 9: They don't make merchandise for movies. And that may be
- 17:00Speaker 9: his most genius thing he ever did. He was just like,
- 17:03Speaker 9: I'll take that. And from that point on, he had
- 17:06Speaker 9: more money than he could ever be accounted for.
- 17:09Speaker 10: It's genius because it worked out. If it hadn't worked out,
- 17:12Speaker 10: it'd be the most foolish thing he ever did.
- 17:15Speaker 9: I mean, even then, he would just... Because, again, there
- 17:17Speaker 9: was a good chance that there wouldn't have been a
- 17:18Speaker 9: second movie, and it was a one-off, and, oh, well,
- 17:20Speaker 9: he got to make his movie, and it didn't work. So,
- 17:22Speaker 9: I mean, he still... That was a smart move on
- 17:25Speaker 9: his part, especially at that time when people... Even he
- 17:28Speaker 9: had no idea just how well that was going to
- 17:31Speaker 9: work out. It was a smart move, but even he
- 17:33Speaker 9: couldn't have predicted how much money would be thrown at
- 17:35Speaker 9: him over the years because of nothing but marketing.
- 17:38Speaker 4: Mm-hmm.
- 17:39Speaker 8: You're going to have to tell people at the front
- 17:40Speaker 8: of this what part to skip forward to for the
- 17:43Speaker 8: Episode 7 talk because this is all like, you know.
- 17:46Speaker 9: It's all one big thing, and that's my plan.
- 17:50Speaker 8: Well, you started talking about you read the novels and
- 17:52Speaker 8: then you got off on this. Oh, yeah.
- 17:55Speaker 4: Video games.
- 17:55Speaker 12: I remember going to a daycare with like 100 other kids,
- 17:59Speaker 12: and there was a computer, one computer, and everyone was
- 18:02Speaker 12: huddled around it, and they had a Star Wars, excuse.
- 18:05Speaker 8: Me, It's all J.J. Abrams now. Okay, you're right.
- 18:11Speaker 10: Was it Dark Empire?
- 18:12Speaker 12: It might have been that. It was probably late 90s,
- 18:15Speaker 12: early 2000s. Something like that, yeah.
- 18:17Speaker 10: I think that was Dark Empire ones, yeah.
- 18:20Speaker 12: Yeah, I think so. Yeah, so played that. Saw episodes one, two,
- 18:25Speaker 12: and three. And, you know, it was... I was actually
- 18:30Speaker 12: preoccupied with this thought. The idea that Palpatine could... spin
- 18:37Speaker 12: his descent, just the physical deterioration of looking like shit,
- 18:42Speaker 12: and just be like, oh, I'm sick.
- 18:44Speaker 13: And now people would buy it.
- 18:47Speaker 9: He is a politician.
- 18:49Speaker 5: I know.
- 18:49Speaker 12: I just imagine an American politician who looked like the
- 18:53Speaker 12: Crypt Keeper, and was just waving, and people were like, woo!
- 18:55Speaker 10: Or didn't one day, and then the next day shows up.
- 18:59Speaker 9: Yeah, and he looks like no. Don't mind me, guys.
- 19:01Speaker 12: There's no eyes, and he's just wrinkly and white, and
- 19:04Speaker 12: I look gross.
- 19:05Speaker 13: I mean, that would have been perfect. I mean, as
- 19:07Speaker 13: a politician, that would have been perfect ammunition. Like, look
- 19:10Speaker 13: at this guy. Looks like the bottom of my foot
- 19:12Speaker 13: after I've been swimming too long.
- 19:15Speaker 8: But you got to think, in this universe, there's aliens
- 19:18Speaker 8: that look like the bottoms of people's feet. They probably
- 19:21Speaker 8: are like, eh, it's just another guy.
- 19:22Speaker 5: That's true.
- 19:23Speaker 12: Actually, you're talking about the current movie, With the cast
- 19:29Speaker 12: the way that no one made a big deal about.
- 19:31Speaker 11: Yeah, it's just kind of matter of fact. It's like, okay, yeah,
- 19:34Speaker 11: you have a black lady, you have.
- 19:35Speaker 6: A female up-and-coming Jedi. It's not like people aren't constantly
- 19:40Speaker 6: talking about it.
- 19:42Speaker 11: There's not too many of.
- 19:43Speaker 6: Those like, oh, that girl just beat up that guy.
- 19:46Speaker 6: There's none of that as much. It's just really matter
- 19:48Speaker 6: of fact.
- 19:48Speaker 9: It's a very different world.
- 19:49Speaker 6: And I was just like, yeah, it's cool that they didn't, like,
- 19:52Speaker 6: pay attention. It was just, like, presented for what it was.
- 19:54Speaker 6: And he was like, well, I hope not. Like, thousands
- 19:57Speaker 6: of years in this, you know.
- 19:59Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 20:00Speaker 12: There's, like, all these different species roaming around, and, like,
- 20:02Speaker 12: someone would be hung up on a black guy.
- 20:04Speaker 11: I'm like, what?
- 20:06Speaker 9: How'd you get through? Sadly, that's... It's part of, again,
- 20:11Speaker 9: it's just showing a difference in the way that we.
- 20:14Speaker 8: Look at things.
- 20:14Speaker 13: It was in the past, too. It's more impressive.
- 20:16Speaker 9: Future slash past world.
- 20:18Speaker 8: You're actually getting into something I was, a little theory
- 20:21Speaker 8: I was kind of contemplating. I'm beginning to think Star
- 20:24Speaker 8: Wars is a thinly veiled commentary on the dangers of profiling,
- 20:30Speaker 8: like racial profiling. Because if you think about it, like
- 20:35Speaker 8: in today's world, we have this fun little group of
- 20:38Speaker 8: guys called ISIS. And because of that kind of stuff,
- 20:42Speaker 8: people tend to see people of that sort of racial
- 20:48Speaker 8: descent with distrust, you know, like if you're on a
- 20:51Speaker 8: plane and, you know, someone comes in wearing a turban,
- 20:54Speaker 8: everyone gets a little bit nervous. It's just kind of
- 20:56Speaker 8: how people are because they're profiling and then people are
- 21:00Speaker 8: crazy and they don't trust people. It's like they say
- 21:05Speaker 8: in the New York City subways, if you see something,
- 21:08Speaker 8: say something. That is just the kind of culture that
- 21:11Speaker 8: everybody is in. And it occurred to me that the Empire,
- 21:16Speaker 8: the First Order, they're all humans. Every single one of
- 21:20Speaker 8: them is human. You never see an alien in the Empire.
- 21:23Speaker 8: You never see an alien in this new First Order.
- 21:26Speaker 8: And yet, every other alien species in the world Apparently,
- 21:31Speaker 8: when they see someone like Rey or they see someone
- 21:34Speaker 8: like Finn, they don't immediately assume you're in the Empire.
- 21:37Speaker 8: You're in the First Order. They don't do the profiling
- 21:40Speaker 8: for some reason. Whereas if this was taking place in America,
- 21:44Speaker 8: you're a human. You must be one of them First
- 21:47Speaker 8: Order people. Get off my planet. That kind of thing.
- 21:50Speaker 8: And it's kind of beautiful because they didn't resort to
- 21:53Speaker 8: profiling and they were allowed to go on their heroic journey.
- 21:56Speaker 8: So it made me a little cry.
- 21:58Speaker 14: Yeah.
- 21:59Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 22:00Speaker 9: On that note, do we want to move into the
- 22:02Speaker 9: new movie?
- 22:04Speaker 8: Well, did you finish your background story?
- 22:06Speaker 4: I think so, yeah.
- 22:08Speaker 9: Okay. I mean, we'll roll back into it. Background rambling.
- 22:11Speaker 9: We'll roll back into it because I've got several other
- 22:14Speaker 9: things that tie back into the overall thing and all
- 22:17Speaker 9: of it. But we can at least start addressing some
- 22:19Speaker 9: of these stuff.
- 22:19Speaker 8: So we're going to talk about Episode 7 now, right?
- 22:22Speaker 1: Get more out of life. Go out to a movie.
- 22:30Speaker 14: Who are you?
- 22:31Speaker 4: I'm no one.
- 23:02Speaker 7: I had nothing to fight for.
- 23:10Speaker 4: Nothing will stand in our way. I will finish what
- 23:17Speaker 4: you started.
- 23:26Speaker 7: There are stories about what happened.
- 23:35Speaker 8: The dark.
- 23:38Speaker 14: Side.
- 23:46Speaker 6: A Jedi.
- 23:50Speaker 8: A Jedi.
- 24:05Speaker 5: The Force.
- 24:07Speaker 4: It's calling to you.
- 24:20Speaker 7: Just let it in.
- 24:29Speaker 9: Since we all went out on the town, you've only
- 24:31Speaker 9: seen it once too, Ben, right?
- 24:32Speaker 8: Yeah, well, you just saw it today.
- 24:34Speaker 9: I just saw it today. You guys saw it today.
- 24:35Speaker 9: So we're all very recent in this. But just to
- 24:39Speaker 9: bring everyone up to speed here, let's get the rundown.
- 24:43Speaker 9: This week's feature is Star Wars The Force Awakens. The
- 24:47Speaker 9: year is 2015. The director is Mr.
- 24:51Speaker 4: J.J.
- 24:51Speaker 6: Abrams.
- 24:52Speaker 9: And they plot according to IMDb. Three decades after the
- 24:56Speaker 9: defeat of the Galactic Empire, a new threat arises. The
- 24:59Speaker 9: First Order attempts to rule the galaxy, and only a
- 25:03Speaker 9: ragtag group of heroes can stop them, along with the
- 25:06Speaker 9: help of the Resistance. Spoiler alert if we haven't already
- 25:09Speaker 9: spoiled anything for you out of the past movies. We're
- 25:12Speaker 9: certainly going to spoil the hell out of Episode 7,
- 25:15Speaker 9: so you've been warned. Hopefully you've already seen the movie
- 25:18Speaker 9: by now.
- 25:19Speaker 8: If you're a geek.
- 25:20Speaker 1: If not, what the hell are you thinking?
- 25:22Speaker 8: All right.
- 25:24Speaker 9: We're actually, I mean, I can get to one of
- 25:26Speaker 9: the things that I was most impressed with that we
- 25:29Speaker 9: were just touching on. I think even more so than
- 25:32Speaker 9: the racial slash alien thing was just the role of
- 25:36Speaker 9: women in this new Star Wars.
- 25:38Speaker 8: Before you go there, where the hell was Lando?
- 25:41Speaker 9: Where was Lando? He's on Star Wars Rebels. All right.
- 25:46Speaker 9: So that's my thing. I was most impressed with that
- 25:49Speaker 9: because I have to say when they showed the picture
- 25:52Speaker 9: of them at the reading several years ago, and I
- 25:54Speaker 9: think even on Facebook, I complained. I was like, what
- 25:57Speaker 9: the hell? We're in a whole new world now. How
- 25:59Speaker 9: are you just going to have one female character again?
- 26:02Speaker 9: We had that the last time. Granted, she's a pretty
- 26:04Speaker 9: awesome female character, but that was it.
- 26:06Speaker 5: I mean.
- 26:07Speaker 9: short of about five other females in the entire universe
- 26:11Speaker 9: in the original trilogy, most of which are kind of
- 26:14Speaker 9: not all that useful. Even the one who's sort of
- 26:16Speaker 9: a power figure is not very impressive. So Leia is
- 26:20Speaker 9: pretty much all we've got as a female figure to
- 26:22Speaker 9: go on in the original trilogy. And in this new one,
- 26:25Speaker 9: Rey is badass.
- 26:28Speaker 11: Badass.
- 26:29Speaker 6: And.
- 26:30Speaker 9: Not only that, but the fact that she kind of
- 26:33Speaker 9: does everything on her own. She is equally as badass
- 26:36Speaker 9: as the rest of the male counterparts. Is possibly smarter
- 26:39Speaker 9: than all of them combined. And then on top of that,
- 26:42Speaker 9: the fact that we do see... We see other female
- 26:47Speaker 9: characters out there. We see a female stormtrooper now. We
- 26:51Speaker 9: see imperial officers that are females. We see rebel pilots
- 26:55Speaker 9: that are female. I'm like, that's... kind of awesome because I've, again,
- 27:00Speaker 9: we've had this whole several generations of girls growing up
- 27:04Speaker 9: and we've gotten to the point that girls really like
- 27:06Speaker 9: Star Wars. It's not a boy thing anymore. And I'm like,
- 27:09Speaker 9: it kind of sucked when they're like, I'm going to
- 27:11Speaker 9: dress up as Leia. Like, that was it. Like, what
- 27:13Speaker 9: are you going to be, Mon Mothra?
- 27:15Speaker 8: Come on.
- 27:15Speaker 9: Like, you have one option and sadly most of the
- 27:17Speaker 9: time it's wearing next to nothing, which was sort of
- 27:20Speaker 9: the downfall of having that as your female character and
- 27:23Speaker 9: then using her in the third movie in a weird,
- 27:26Speaker 9: weird way. But, I don't know. I think that was
- 27:28Speaker 9: one of the things I was most impressed with. And
- 27:31Speaker 9: I think they've made that a movement in the entire
- 27:34Speaker 9: universe because actually, and I don't know if this was
- 27:37Speaker 9: in the works before they showed that photograph and they
- 27:40Speaker 9: took a lot of heat because of it, but I
- 27:43Speaker 9: mentioned Star Wars Rebels. We watched that.
- 27:45Speaker 4: Oh, yeah.
- 27:45Speaker 8: I love it.
- 27:46Speaker 9: It's a good show. And look how many characters are females. Like,
- 27:50Speaker 9: almost half of the cast.
- 27:52Speaker 11: Almost representative of the population?
- 27:54Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 27:55Speaker 4: Oh, my God.
- 27:55Speaker 9: But, I mean, in a sci-fi story, how often is
- 27:58Speaker 9: that the case?
- 27:59Speaker 11: Yeah, not ever.
- 27:59Speaker 9: It's usually one, maybe two if you got a big cast.
- 28:02Speaker 11: And they're all wearing super skin tight, like nothing showing.
- 28:04Speaker 9: I'm like, this one, the person in charge is female.
- 28:08Speaker 9: the kind of badass rogue character is female. Like at
- 28:12Speaker 9: least three of your main people running the show are female.
- 28:15Speaker 9: And I'm like, that's awesome. Like I can't, again, just
- 28:19Speaker 9: watching kids grow up now and one of, which is
- 28:22Speaker 9: my niece. And I'm thinking of the world she's going
- 28:23Speaker 9: to grow up in.
- 28:24Speaker 11: And I'm like, She's going to have a Jedi to
- 28:26Speaker 11: look up to that looks like her.
- 28:27Speaker 9: She's going to have a badass Jedi, and she can
- 28:30Speaker 9: dress up like Rey now. So good for her.
- 28:33Speaker 6: It makes me feel more comfortable when I'm watching a
- 28:35Speaker 6: movie when it looks like the real world.
- 28:37Speaker 11: I mean, except for the aliens and stuff. But when
- 28:40Speaker 11: it looks like something that's believable, I'm like, oh, cool.
- 28:44Speaker 11: This is for me, too. It's not just for another
- 28:47Speaker 11: group of people.
- 28:48Speaker 9: I mean, even our weird barkeep lady, whatever she was exactly.
- 28:54Speaker 8: But again.
- 28:55Speaker 9: Pretty strong female character. Even being an alien, it's pretty
- 28:58Speaker 9: obvious she's a female because she's into Chewie.
- 29:01Speaker 8: Okay, can I ask something?
- 29:02Speaker 9: Please do.
- 29:03Speaker 8: Do you remember when Chewbacca was getting his arm bandaged
- 29:06Speaker 8: up and there was that lady who was doing it
- 29:08Speaker 8: and she was going, oh, you're a big hero, aren't you?
- 29:11Speaker 8: Who was that? Were we supposed to know who that was?
- 29:13Speaker 9: I don't think so. Again, I was just like, yeah,
- 29:16Speaker 9: I remember this. There's another... Very specific, like, here's another
- 29:21Speaker 9: female in the rebellion.
- 29:23Speaker 8: And she wasn't young. She was kind of older. So
- 29:25Speaker 8: I was like, is that Leia's second cousin, and she
- 29:30Speaker 8: got her on the government program?
- 29:33Speaker 10: I know that Carrie Fisher's real life daughter was one
- 29:37Speaker 10: of the rebel commanders or one of the rebel in
- 29:39Speaker 10: the little base. You know what scene I'm talking about, right?
- 29:45Speaker 10: I think that was just more of a deconstruction of
- 29:48Speaker 10: Chewbacca being this gruff badass. No, he's actually kind of
- 29:51Speaker 10: milking getting shot in the.
- 29:53Speaker 9: Arm for every bit that he can, which is awesome.
- 29:55Speaker 10: It's one of those little throwaway lines that really It's
- 29:58Speaker 10: character development that was sorely missing from the dark years
- 30:04Speaker 10: of Star Wars.
- 30:05Speaker 13: He's actually a charmer.
- 30:06Speaker 9: Exactly.
- 30:07Speaker 10: I mean, he's like, hey, I took a bullet.
- 30:10Speaker 8: Okay. Han and Leia broke up. Because Chewbacca was obviously
- 30:18Speaker 8: flirting with this nurse, has he and Mala called it Splitsville, too?
- 30:22Speaker 8: It's been 30 years, man.
- 30:23Speaker 9: Well, again, the barkeep lady's got a thing for him.
- 30:27Speaker 9: Maybe Chewbacca just kind of gets around these days.
- 30:29Speaker 8: You guys have seen the Star Wars Christmas special, right?
- 30:32Speaker 9: I didn't inflict it on them like everyone else.
- 30:35Speaker 8: Where you meet Chewbacca's family and his wife.
- 30:37Speaker 11: Actually, no, I did see it again like three years.
- 30:39Speaker 8: Ago at a Christmas party. Chewbacca has a wife.
- 30:42Speaker 11: That was a crazy, crazy movie.
- 30:44Speaker 9: It's disturbing.
- 30:45Speaker 8: I'm just thinking, did he leave them all out? What
- 30:48Speaker 8: the hell?
- 30:48Speaker 9: Well, I mean, I try not to get too far
- 30:50Speaker 9: into that storyline because then I have to admit to
- 30:52Speaker 9: myself that Chewbacca's a deadbeat dad.
- 30:54Speaker 7: It's true.
- 30:55Speaker 9: Well, I'm not saying it doesn't exist. I'm just saying
- 30:58Speaker 9: I don't like to think about that part because I
- 30:59Speaker 9: don't like the deadbeat dad nonsense.
- 31:01Speaker 10: You know, I don't like using this kind of rationale,
- 31:03Speaker 10: but the 70s were a weird time.
- 31:05Speaker 8: You know?
- 31:05Speaker 9: You got a point there.
- 31:06Speaker 11: Free to love Chewbacca.
- 31:08Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 31:09Speaker 12: Maybe he'll flirt, but he'll always bring it back, and
- 31:14Speaker 12: then he'll take that brinksmanship energy back home, and then
- 31:17Speaker 12: his wife.
- 31:18Speaker 8: Will be like, I love you, Julie. Yes, I screwed
- 31:22Speaker 8: that nurse, but I make love to you, Marla.
- 31:25Speaker 9: Or Mala fell off the tree. I mean, you saw
- 31:27Speaker 9: how high... It was really high where they lived.
- 31:30Speaker 8: Lumpy pushed her over.
- 31:32Speaker 9: I mean, we know Lumpy fell off.
- 31:34Speaker 8: This movie is all about kids being pissed off at
- 31:36Speaker 8: their parents. Lumpy pushed Mala over.
- 31:38Speaker 9: The whole franchise.
- 31:43Speaker 10: I'm curious. Did you like it, everyone? Yes or no?
- 31:48Speaker 8: Yes.
- 31:48Speaker 9: Surprising how much I liked it.
- 31:51Speaker 8: Yes, I only had one little niggle. And that's... that's,
- 31:55Speaker 8: I couldn't believe it. Just one niggle.
- 31:57Speaker 9: I have a few minor issues, but, but again, they
- 32:00Speaker 9: are so minor compared to the guard that I went
- 32:03Speaker 9: in with up and the burn that we all got
- 32:06Speaker 9: years ago. It's, it's amazing that I went in and
- 32:10Speaker 9: was just like, Oh my God, this is fun again.
- 32:12Speaker 9: And I haven't said that since I was a kid.
- 32:15Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 32:15Speaker 10: I think there's, it's, it's, there's two questions. Was it
- 32:19Speaker 10: a good star Wars movie? And then was it a
- 32:22Speaker 10: good movie? Um, great Star Wars movie.
- 32:26Speaker 6: Yes.
- 32:26Speaker 9: Fantastic.
- 32:28Speaker 10: Good movie. Yes. But with some flaws, but as a
- 32:31Speaker 10: Star Wars movie out of the park compared to what
- 32:35Speaker 10: we've received.
- 32:36Speaker 9: It's, it is what, I mean, that, that was, it
- 32:38Speaker 9: was the, the weird feeling. And I remember like I'm
- 32:41Speaker 9: midway into like, not even there. It's maybe by the
- 32:44Speaker 9: time they go back up to the ship and they
- 32:46Speaker 9: just start trying to like, I don't know, it's maybe 30,
- 32:48Speaker 9: 40 minutes in, it's not even that far in and
- 32:50Speaker 9: I'm already like so enjoying it. And, and I've, Thought
- 32:54Speaker 9: to myself in the theater right there, I never felt
- 32:57Speaker 9: this way in the prequels.
- 32:58Speaker 7: Ever.
- 32:59Speaker 9: Ever got close to this feeling.
- 33:01Speaker 8: They talk like real people. That was amazing. The dialogue
- 33:05Speaker 8: was the banner. There was none of that, I'm so
- 33:08Speaker 8: happy because I'm so in love with you. No, I'm
- 33:10Speaker 8: happy because I'm in love with you. No, I'm happy
- 33:12Speaker 8: because there was none of that crap. Even the damn...
- 33:15Speaker 8: a beach ball droid had personality.
- 33:18Speaker 7: He did.
- 33:19Speaker 8: He had more personality than Jar Jar and all that.
- 33:22Speaker 8: Like the part where he gave Finn that thumbs up.
- 33:25Speaker 9: Oh my God.
- 33:27Speaker 10: And that's what, you know, that, you know, that's all
- 33:34Speaker 10: you need for character development is those little throwaway lines
- 33:37Speaker 10: was the thumbs up or the where's Chewie? Where's my boyfriend?
- 33:40Speaker 10: I mean, that's all you needed to know about that
- 33:43Speaker 10: character was She's into Chewie and that.
- 33:47Speaker 9: Or things like Han using Chewie's gun. Why did he
- 33:50Speaker 9: not have the line of like, why haven't I been
- 33:52Speaker 9: using this all the time?
- 33:53Speaker 8: That was the funniest thing. And the way that became
- 33:56Speaker 8: this ongoing thing, like after 40 years, he picks it
- 33:59Speaker 8: up for the first time. And he's just like.
- 34:02Speaker 9: Can I... Just that hymn of like, is it okay
- 34:06Speaker 9: if I.
- 34:07Speaker 8: I gotta say though, like every time I saw Finn
- 34:10Speaker 8: and Han Solo in a scene together, I kept thinking
- 34:13Speaker 8: about how much.
- 34:15Speaker 8: I hated Shia LaBeouf. How shitty Shia LaBeouf is, you know?
- 34:20Speaker 9: So Finn should be Indy Jr.? Because I'm okay with that, actually.
- 34:24Speaker 8: It seemed like there was a point in time where
- 34:26Speaker 8: they were pushing Shia LaBeouf as the next definitive sci-fi
- 34:31Speaker 8: action star, voice of a generation.
- 34:34Speaker 9: Wow, before he went crazy.
- 34:36Speaker 8: But even before that, he was just terrible. And I hated, like,
- 34:40Speaker 8: I hated the Transformers shit. I hated the Indiana Jones thing.
- 34:43Speaker 8: And I was just seeing the way Finn and Han
- 34:45Speaker 8: were interacting. And it was real. It was like real people.
- 34:48Speaker 8: And it was kind of making me think. I think
- 34:51Speaker 8: Shia LaBeouf is one of these guys that has been
- 34:53Speaker 8: wealthy since he was a kid. And he's grown up
- 34:57Speaker 8: in this sheltered lifestyle. And so he doesn't really know
- 35:00Speaker 8: what ordinary people are like. So whenever he plays movies
- 35:04Speaker 8: where he's trying to portray... what he thinks is an
- 35:06Speaker 8: ordinary person. He just comes off as this douche.
- 35:09Speaker 11: Yeah, it's like an alien's impression of a human.
- 35:11Speaker 9: Exactly.
- 35:12Speaker 8: Thank you. Spot on. I'm putting my finger on my
- 35:15Speaker 8: nose and pointing at you.
- 35:16Speaker 10: Did you ever see Attack the Block?
- 35:19Speaker 4: No.
- 35:20Speaker 2: Okay, so.
- 35:23Speaker 10: Early 2000 sci-fi movie?
- 35:25Speaker 9: I was blown away. Fantastic movie.
- 35:26Speaker 10: I did not see it coming. John Boyega's first movie.
- 35:29Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 35:30Speaker 10: And basically, the director got a bunch of kids, had
- 35:34Speaker 10: never acted before, and he knocked it out of the
- 35:37Speaker 10: park in that movie. What year was that? 2005, 6-ish, 7-ish.
- 35:42Speaker 10: What movie is this?
- 35:43Speaker 9: Attack the Block.
- 35:44Speaker 10: It's called Attack the Block. But there you go. He
- 35:47Speaker 10: was not an actor, but the kids got chops... out
- 35:52Speaker 10: the ass, you know? So, so, and again, and it,
- 35:55Speaker 10: it comes down, their, their whole interaction, especially with Han
- 35:59Speaker 10: kept calling him big deal the entire time because the
- 36:02Speaker 10: one line, wait, I'm kind of a big deal.
- 36:04Speaker 4: But, but.
- 36:06Speaker 10: It is that kind of dialogue and interplay that makes
- 36:10Speaker 10: or breaks most movies for me because they talk like,
- 36:12Speaker 10: you know, if my friend would say, yeah, I'm a
- 36:14Speaker 10: big deal, whatever, I'd probably nickname him big deal too. That,
- 36:17Speaker 10: that's what you want. You want people that look and
- 36:20Speaker 10: act and talk sort of like you do.
- 36:22Speaker 8: Because I saw that first Transformers movie and the scene
- 36:26Speaker 8: where you meet Shia LaBeouf and he's in this high
- 36:30Speaker 8: school classroom. He's trying to sell his grandfather's artifacts because
- 36:35Speaker 8: he's trying to get a car to impress him. And
- 36:37Speaker 8: the way he's talking. No one is like this. No
- 36:40Speaker 8: one is like this. And his whole range of dialogue is.
- 36:43Speaker 6: No, no, no, no, no.
- 36:44Speaker 8: Move, move, move, move, move, move. And then you see
- 36:47Speaker 8: him in the Indiana Jones movie and he's just bringing
- 36:50Speaker 8: it down and For a while there, I was really afraid.
- 36:53Speaker 8: This is where crap's going. I hate the Transformers. I
- 36:57Speaker 8: hope Michael Bay sees this Star Wars movie and begins
- 37:01Speaker 8: to realize why people think he's so shitty. Because this
- 37:05Speaker 8: movie was just... It was fun. It had heart. You
- 37:08Speaker 8: don't need to have... dog humping jokes you don't need
- 37:11Speaker 8: to have parents who are embassy you know it's.
- 37:15Speaker 9: Just have real people in it man jj knows how
- 37:18Speaker 9: to shoot a movie where michael bay does not like
- 37:20Speaker 9: he does not know how to he's like he would
- 37:23Speaker 9: be good for your second unit which is what he
- 37:25Speaker 9: used to do a long time ago but like to
- 37:27Speaker 9: be a director he doesn't know how to stage a
- 37:30Speaker 9: scene so that you as an audience member can figure
- 37:32Speaker 9: out what's going on i think that's one of these
- 37:35Speaker 9: because now all he does is action it's like You
- 37:37Speaker 9: have to be able to lay out an action scene
- 37:39Speaker 9: so that the audience knows where everything is, what's going on.
- 37:43Speaker 9: None of his are like that. Whereas JJ is the opposite.
- 37:45Speaker 9: Like even like going back to his earlier stuff, Mission
- 37:48Speaker 9: Impossible 3 is still pretty entertaining. I was like, I
- 37:51Speaker 9: feel like he at least knows how to shoot a
- 37:53Speaker 9: movie so that you're at least along for the ride.
- 37:58Speaker 9: And even he kind of like, even Star Trek stuff,
- 38:01Speaker 9: he doesn't take it. overly seriously he keeps it just
- 38:05Speaker 9: at the right amount of fun and entertaining again sometimes
- 38:09Speaker 9: people have problems with how loose he is with especially
- 38:12Speaker 9: star trek they got a little annoyed with the canon
- 38:14Speaker 9: but i think.
- 38:15Speaker 8: That's why i was so impressed with this because for
- 38:18Speaker 8: such a long time it seemed like the state of
- 38:21Speaker 8: like i like the superhero movies drive me crazy you
- 38:24Speaker 8: know the the the transformers you know it's just this
- 38:28Speaker 8: is the first time i've seen a movie in Decades,
- 38:31Speaker 8: it feels like, that got what it meant to be
- 38:34Speaker 8: a fun movie.
- 38:37Speaker 9: I'll argue the Marvel movies with you, but otherwise, that's
- 38:40Speaker 9: kind of true.
- 38:41Speaker 8: Well, the thing is, the reason I bring that up is, well,
- 38:43Speaker 8: I have a history. Me and superheroes don't really get
- 38:46Speaker 8: along that well.
- 38:47Speaker 9: I've heard that a few times.
- 38:48Speaker 8: And the trailers before the movie were the Batman-Superman outing.
- 38:54Speaker 9: See, luckily, that was not before.
- 38:56Speaker 8: And the Captain America Civil War.
- 38:59Speaker 9: I think that looks badass.
- 39:00Speaker 8: And both of them were just overly gritty and dark
- 39:04Speaker 8: and serious and everyone's mad and everyone's like, oh, we're
- 39:08Speaker 8: going to fight.
- 39:09Speaker 7: We can't talk.
- 39:11Speaker 9: Have you ever seen Robert Downey Jr.? He can't ever
- 39:14Speaker 9: be serious.
- 39:14Speaker 8: But it was just, and it was just so, like
- 39:17Speaker 8: even in the trailer, it was just so over the
- 39:19Speaker 8: top and like, oh my God.
- 39:21Speaker 9: That one hits pretty heavy subject matter.
- 39:24Speaker 8: So it's like, I saw these two trailers and I
- 39:26Speaker 8: was just like, come on, come on, come on, come on,
- 39:28Speaker 8: you know, get to it. And immediately the minute star
- 39:31Speaker 8: wars starts it's a completely different feel from that and
- 39:34Speaker 8: that's true i i just it's oh i could go
- 39:39Speaker 8: on for hours i.
- 39:41Speaker 10: Have to disagree with you too about the marvel stuff
- 39:43Speaker 10: they they actually um When I think of what makes
- 39:48Speaker 10: a great movie, it is that balance between action, drama,
- 39:53Speaker 10: and humor. And Star Wars had it. Lost Ark had it. Like,
- 39:58Speaker 10: Wrath of Khan had it. And to me, those are
- 40:01Speaker 10: the things you... That's how you shoot towards a movie is...
- 40:05Speaker 10: But you've got to have realistic humor going on between them.
- 40:07Speaker 10: You just can't throw in poop jokes like Phantom Menace
- 40:10Speaker 10: and stuff like that. And again, it's even more just
- 40:13Speaker 10: subtle throwaway stuff like... I'm sure everyone knows that the
- 40:17Speaker 10: scene where Ray convinces the Stormtrooper to leave.
- 40:21Speaker 9: Time out. Oh, no, I know that fun fact.
- 40:27Speaker 10: You can do the honors.
- 40:28Speaker 9: Make your note.
- 40:29Speaker 8: You know who that was, right? Do you know who
- 40:31Speaker 8: that was?
- 40:31Speaker 9: Tell the listeners.
- 40:33Speaker 8: Do you know who that was? Do you know who
- 40:34Speaker 8: was playing the Stormtrooper in that scene?
- 40:36Speaker 5: No.
- 40:37Speaker 8: Do you know what we're talking about? The scene where
- 40:38Speaker 8: Ray's tied up to the table?
- 40:41Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 40:42Speaker 8: Do you know who it was?
- 40:43Speaker 13: I do not know who it was.
- 40:44Speaker 4: Who was it?
- 40:45Speaker 9: Who was it?
- 40:46Speaker 10: Daniel Craig.
- 40:48Speaker 8: Really?
- 40:49Speaker 11: What?
- 40:50Speaker 9: Interesting.
- 40:51Speaker 10: James Bond was a Jedi mind trick stormtrooper.
- 40:54Speaker 9: I mean, who doesn't want to have a cameo in there?
- 40:58Speaker 9: Especially if you can do it and nobody knows that
- 41:00Speaker 9: it's you.
- 41:00Speaker 8: That's hilarious.
- 41:01Speaker 10: Yeah, because I want to say it started with Simon
- 41:03Speaker 10: Pegg made some comment about he was in the movie
- 41:06Speaker 10: and he's like, and I think the old Wario Stormtrooper
- 41:08Speaker 10: was like, I'm not, but Daniel Craig was. And he's like, oops,
- 41:11Speaker 10: I shouldn't have said that.
- 41:13Speaker 9: Oh, I didn't see anything about that.
- 41:14Speaker 10: And then everyone went trolling to try to figure out
- 41:16Speaker 10: where was Daniel Craig in the movie, and that was
- 41:18Speaker 10: apparently his little scene.
- 41:20Speaker 11: See, I hadn't seen that that had been a thing,
- 41:22Speaker 11: so I wasn't looking for it.
- 41:23Speaker 10: Now, I found out after the fact, and now I
- 41:26Speaker 10: want to see it again and really listen to his
- 41:28Speaker 10: voice to see if I can catch it.
- 41:30Speaker 8: I was on a media internet blackout for two weeks,
- 41:33Speaker 8: and I had no idea.
- 41:35Speaker 9: On that note, I will say, again, it was days
- 41:38Speaker 9: before I got around to seeing it, just sort of
- 41:41Speaker 9: prepping for this and us getting tickets, which were sold
- 41:44Speaker 9: out every other show today. So, like, just happened to
- 41:48Speaker 9: get in under the wire there. But I was on
- 41:51Speaker 9: a lot of the time, still posting stuff about the show,
- 41:54Speaker 9: still posting the link for the last episode. And I'm like,
- 41:57Speaker 9: I'm probably going to get hit. I didn't see anything.
- 42:00Speaker 9: So I'm like... I am proud of Star Wars fans
- 42:03Speaker 9: out there because there's a couple of big reveals there.
- 42:05Speaker 9: And I'm like, none of it made out. None of
- 42:08Speaker 9: it made it onto Twitter, Facebook, anywhere. So if you
- 42:11Speaker 9: guys had a different experience, I'm sorry, but I was shocked.
- 42:16Speaker 9: I was like, maybe there just aren't anything. Maybe it's
- 42:17Speaker 9: a pretty simple story and there's no big twist to it,
- 42:20Speaker 9: but there's several things you can run for that, people,
- 42:24Speaker 9: and nobody said anything.
- 42:26Speaker 6: I saw some Facebook posts that had spoilers ahead and
- 42:28Speaker 6: they would like, press enter a thousand times so that
- 42:32Speaker 6: you have to keep reading to see it.
- 42:34Speaker 9: I'm like, you're sweet. I did see somebody on Twitter
- 42:37Speaker 9: today posted, so how long is the blackout until we
- 42:40Speaker 9: can talk about it? It was like desperation. It was
- 42:42Speaker 9: like us. I just want to talk about it. When
- 42:45Speaker 9: can I talk about it?
- 42:46Speaker 8: That's when you get real friends and not Twitter.
- 42:48Speaker 9: That's what I'm saying. That's why I was like, whoever
- 42:50Speaker 9: wants to come, gather around this table and talk about
- 42:53Speaker 9: Star Wars. That's what we're doing tonight. The rest of
- 42:56Speaker 9: you people are stupid because you didn't come. So, we're
- 42:59Speaker 9: lucky we get to talk about Star Wars. Now, where
- 43:02Speaker 9: were you going before? You veered off of Marvel and
- 43:05Speaker 9: then had her tied to the chair. Were we just
- 43:07Speaker 9: doing dialogue? Because, again, that's my thing. It's like, you
- 43:10Speaker 9: can't argue Wheaton. Like, he's got such a knack for
- 43:14Speaker 9: comedy that I would love to see them hand him
- 43:17Speaker 9: one of the Star Wars upcoming mini, mini franchise.
- 43:20Speaker 8: Movies coming out. I did like the Avengers movie. I
- 43:21Speaker 8: will say that.
- 43:22Speaker 9: Again, his stuff is so clever.
- 43:23Speaker 8: That kind of turned me, you know, but it's... It's
- 43:26Speaker 8: all the other stuff that kind of like the Superman.
- 43:28Speaker 9: See, DC doesn't know how to do movies. It really doesn't.
- 43:32Speaker 8: I saw the Fantastic Four. That doesn't count.
- 43:35Speaker 9: That's not.
- 43:36Speaker 14: See, no.
- 43:36Speaker 9: Only official Marvel Universe.
- 43:39Speaker 10: If it's not Marvel stamped, even though it was a
- 43:41Speaker 10: Marvel property, you really got to separate it out.
- 43:44Speaker 9: Because even one that veers off, Guardians of the Galaxy,
- 43:47Speaker 9: it's the closest thing to something like this. It's funny,
- 43:51Speaker 9: and it's a really fun ride. I did hear people
- 43:55Speaker 9: last year going- this is star Wars for kids. Like
- 43:57Speaker 9: this is their star Wars. And I, I wanted to
- 44:01Speaker 9: take offense to that, but I'm like, damn, it's really
- 44:03Speaker 9: good though. So I'm like, again, those Marvel approved ones
- 44:07Speaker 9: are really smart and have a good sense of humor
- 44:10Speaker 9: about it. That one in particular is damn near a comedy,
- 44:12Speaker 9: but so.
- 44:14Speaker 8: So you, you've just seen it hours before this, right? Okay.
- 44:17Speaker 9: What I'm coming down off the high.
- 44:19Speaker 8: What, what was, what was the part? Was there anything
- 44:22Speaker 8: that just, completely made you laugh out loud you know
- 44:25Speaker 8: just like.
- 44:26Speaker 9: Funny or when we were all about to cry do
- 44:28Speaker 9: we all want to reveal when we all teared up
- 44:29Speaker 9: what was your favorite part favorite part okay um trying
- 44:34Speaker 9: to think what part i was thumbs up was pretty
- 44:37Speaker 9: damn funny um I think just the little interaction, mostly Finn. Finn, again,
- 44:44Speaker 9: the comedy comes through really good with him. So him, again,
- 44:48Speaker 9: you see what, and this is, I think, good for
- 44:51Speaker 9: Star Wars because it shows the universe and it shows
- 44:53Speaker 9: the characters we're dealing with because we get to see
- 44:55Speaker 9: not only is Rey a great person, but Finn is too.
- 44:59Speaker 9: And Finn, especially coming up as a stormtrooper, how much
- 45:04Speaker 9: he just wants to help people and he just wants
- 45:05Speaker 9: to be a good person. So he sees this random girl, like,
- 45:09Speaker 9: fighting with people. And he's like, hey, who the hell
- 45:11Speaker 9: are you? Get off of her. And before he can
- 45:13Speaker 9: get there, she kicks their ass. And I'm like, but
- 45:15Speaker 9: that look on his face, I was like, oh, well, shit.
- 45:18Speaker 9: I was like, I guess she doesn't need me. And
- 45:20Speaker 9: I'm like, that was funny. And again, that same look,
- 45:26Speaker 9: I'm like, oh, shit.
- 45:28Speaker 13: She's going to kick.
- 45:29Speaker 10: My ass now. When they released one of the trailers,
- 45:33Speaker 10: which the trailers did a fantastic job of hiding the
- 45:36Speaker 10: fact that the lightsaber battle at the end was not
- 45:40Speaker 10: between Finn and Rilo.
- 45:43Speaker 9: I wasn't sure if Rilo was ever going to pick
- 45:45Speaker 9: up the lightsaber.
- 45:47Speaker 10: He gets knocked out of the fight like 30 seconds in,
- 45:50Speaker 10: and then it's all about her, which, genius for hiding
- 45:54Speaker 10: that fight from us.
- 45:55Speaker 6: You still get a lightsaber fight in the trailer, but
- 45:58Speaker 6: it's not.
- 45:59Speaker 9: It's not what you think.
- 46:00Speaker 10: But there's a part in the trailer, and one of
- 46:03Speaker 10: the sides they get to freeze-framed where... You know, he
- 46:07Speaker 10: lights it up, and then Kylo Ren comes at him,
- 46:09Speaker 10: and you see he goes from a badass look to, oh,
- 46:13Speaker 10: my God, there's this guy who's probably way more trained
- 46:16Speaker 10: than me with this coming at me, going to kill me.
- 46:19Speaker 10: But that is hands down fantastic acting without even acting, really,
- 46:24Speaker 10: just facial expression.
- 46:26Speaker 8: You know, it's funny. You reminded me of this. Because
- 46:29Speaker 8: of that trailer, I assumed that John Boyega was going
- 46:31Speaker 8: to be the new Luke Skywalker. It was a total
- 46:34Speaker 8: bait and switch.
- 46:34Speaker 2: You're right.
- 46:36Speaker 9: That's one I was going to ask you because I
- 46:40Speaker 9: felt it. And again, sometimes I'm seeing the strings a
- 46:44Speaker 9: little bit. How much do you feel like classic Star
- 46:47Speaker 9: Wars characters were taken out of commission so that the
- 46:51Speaker 9: new replacements could be put in their place? R2 is
- 46:55Speaker 9: mysteriously shut down for the whole damn movie. So this
- 46:58Speaker 9: new BB, and by the way, is BB not the
- 47:01Speaker 9: cute new puppy? Oh my God.
- 47:02Speaker 4: He's so cute.
- 47:02Speaker 9: BB is the little puppy. And he even runs up
- 47:05Speaker 9: to R2. He's like, hey, come on, let's play. Oh,
- 47:08Speaker 9: you're sleepy. He's just like, it's exactly like the old dog,
- 47:11Speaker 9: new dog scenario. Like, look, he's the cute new puppy.
- 47:14Speaker 8: Well, I think it's because they were trying to space
- 47:17Speaker 8: out the introductions. Kind of. But the way I understood it,
- 47:23Speaker 8: R2 was essentially having the robot equivalent of depression, right?
- 47:30Speaker 8: He's like in a coma.
- 47:32Speaker 9: Or he was really working on a problem. He's like,
- 47:34Speaker 9: I've got to figure out this map thing. I'm going
- 47:37Speaker 9: to take a nap for a while, guys. I'm going
- 47:38Speaker 9: to power down.
- 47:39Speaker 8: Can you say what your favorite moments were that made
- 47:42Speaker 8: you feel like, I feel like I'm that kid watching
- 47:45Speaker 8: it on the VCR again?
- 47:46Speaker 5: Oh, man.
- 47:46Speaker 11: I don't know. I don't know. I really did like
- 47:49Speaker 11: watching Finn on screen.
- 47:51Speaker 6: Like he was just so easy to put my heart
- 47:53Speaker 6: into because he just, he brought out those like, oh, friends.
- 47:58Speaker 11: Emotion in me. Like when him, when he like runs
- 48:01Speaker 11: up to Poe and like they hug and he goes, oh, buddy.
- 48:05Speaker 11: I was like, buddy. He called him buddy.
- 48:07Speaker 9: Again, they're all such good, like Poe is such a good,
- 48:10Speaker 9: and it's like we don't see that in movies now.
- 48:12Speaker 9: People are such dicks. And I was like, everybody was
- 48:15Speaker 9: so likable on the good side that I was like,
- 48:18Speaker 9: I think that was just such a good feeling that like, God,
- 48:21Speaker 9: I don't want to destroy the world for at least
- 48:23Speaker 9: two hours.
- 48:24Speaker 7: At least two hours.
- 48:25Speaker 9: I don't want to kill everyone I know.
- 48:27Speaker 8: That was another bait and switch. Because of the way
- 48:30Speaker 8: the movie began, I thought it was going to be
- 48:32Speaker 8: the Poe and Finn buddy cop story.
- 48:34Speaker 9: Which would be fun too. Start writing that now, guys.
- 48:38Speaker 8: And also, you're right. I kind of, because I heard
- 48:41Speaker 8: going in, you know, Poe was going to be this
- 48:43Speaker 8: hot shot X-Wing pilot. I expected him to be like,
- 48:46Speaker 8: Val Kilmer from Top Gun. I expected to not like him,
- 48:49Speaker 8: but you're right.
- 48:50Speaker 9: He's great. And on that note, is there anything cooler
- 48:54Speaker 9: than a black X-Wing? I didn't really think about it.
- 48:58Speaker 9: I'm like, X-Wings are pretty badass back in the day.
- 49:00Speaker 9: And then all of a sudden they roll out with
- 49:02Speaker 9: this fancy new black one. I was like, oh, shit.
- 49:04Speaker 9: I didn't know they came in black.
- 49:05Speaker 10: Well, because of course Poe is going to have a
- 49:07Speaker 10: custom paint job on his.
- 49:08Speaker 9: I was like, damn, that is badass.
- 49:11Speaker 10: Yeah, take that standard white, make mine black.
- 49:14Speaker 8: What are they called?
- 49:14Speaker 11: Black Masters?
- 49:16Speaker 9: Well, they were, I mean, again, they kind of went
- 49:18Speaker 9: with their codes for like, Black Squadron or whatever, which
- 49:22Speaker 9: they used to do in the old ones, but it
- 49:24Speaker 9: was usually just, like, paint on the ship, but all
- 49:27Speaker 9: the ships were the same color, more or less. But,
- 49:29Speaker 9: I mean, Red had the red paint on it, yellow,
- 49:32Speaker 9: same thing, but, like, this one they just painted specifically
- 49:35Speaker 9: his because his was badass.
- 49:37Speaker 10: So your favorite scene?
- 49:38Speaker 12: I think mine was, besides everything that's been mentioned already,
- 49:45Speaker 12: the very end, like after this whole quest to complete
- 49:48Speaker 12: the map and then you finally get to see Luke.
- 49:51Speaker 12: And it was like, it was powerful to me because
- 49:54Speaker 12: what I had remembered from the films in the, you know,
- 50:02Speaker 12: 80s or early 80s back then, Mark Hamill kind of
- 50:07Speaker 12: played Luke in this kind of wide eyed. He looked
- 50:10Speaker 12: like very doughish. He was like young, kind of smooth.
- 50:13Speaker 12: And then at the end of, um, force awakens, he just,
- 50:17Speaker 12: it was like a weight in his whole face.
- 50:20Speaker 10: Luke's seen some shit since the early days.
- 50:23Speaker 12: I mean, and just that, just that, that gap, like it's,
- 50:27Speaker 12: it completely filled in any kind of like, yes, time
- 50:30Speaker 12: has passed.
- 50:30Speaker 13: All this shit has happened.
- 50:32Speaker 12: And, um, yeah, like, like, You can see burst capillaries
- 50:37Speaker 12: in his eyes, and.
- 50:37Speaker 8: It's just like, Jesus.
- 50:39Speaker 5: HD.
- 50:39Speaker 8: That was great.
- 50:40Speaker 9: I don't know.
- 50:41Speaker 8: It's a little too good. I have to say, though,
- 50:42Speaker 8: I thought that has got to be the easiest check
- 50:44Speaker 8: that Mark Hamill has ever cast. All right, Mark, just
- 50:47Speaker 8: stand by the cliff. Don't fall off. And turn and see. Okay,
- 50:53Speaker 8: you're done.
- 50:53Speaker 9: Yeah. Have you seen Slipstream?
- 50:55Speaker 8: Come on.
- 50:55Speaker 10: Well, but, you know.
- 50:58Speaker 10: All joking aside, he said nothing but conveyed everything in
- 51:04Speaker 10: just that look of, here we go again. I couldn't
- 51:09Speaker 10: tell if.
- 51:10Speaker 8: He was happy or angry.
- 51:13Speaker 9: Which is great.
- 51:14Speaker 10: Because you don't know why. You know something went down,
- 51:19Speaker 10: and he said, I'm out, and I'm going on my
- 51:23Speaker 10: spirit quest or whatever.
- 51:24Speaker 9: Just like Yoda.
- 51:26Speaker 10: Well, you know, and so he's done. Or you assume,
- 51:29Speaker 10: you don't really know his motivation yet, which is part
- 51:32Speaker 10: of the great thing is they left us with questions
- 51:36Speaker 10: just enough to want more.
- 51:38Speaker 9: Quite a few.
- 51:39Speaker 8: You know?
- 51:39Speaker 9: But I'm okay with that. Yeah, exactly.
- 51:41Speaker 10: As opposed to some of other Abrams works where you're
- 51:45Speaker 10: left with questions and it's just like, you're not going
- 51:48Speaker 10: to get the answer to them. Whereas this one was,
- 51:51Speaker 10: you can project onto him, was he happy?
- 51:55Speaker 9: Was he sad?
- 51:57Speaker 10: But that's the cool thing about that scene of no
- 52:00Speaker 10: words and you get to sort of inject upon him
- 52:03Speaker 10: what you think. You know, especially like her handing it
- 52:07Speaker 10: to him. You thought there was going to be a
- 52:09Speaker 10: word like, teach me or here you go.
- 52:12Speaker 13: Hey, I found this.
- 52:13Speaker 9: Yeah, but nothing.
- 52:16Speaker 10: But so much was wrapped up in just that little
- 52:19Speaker 10: scene with no words.
- 52:30Speaker 14: Good evening.

- 53:46Speaker 15: you need.
- 53:47Speaker 8: Slipstream, the future.
- 53:49Speaker 3: A river of turbulent wind has swept the skies, and
- 53:52Speaker 3: nature has reclaimed the planet.
- 53:55Speaker 8: In the desolate.
- 53:55Speaker 3: Wasteland that remains, a mysterious fugitive is pursued and captured
- 54:00Speaker 3: by a brutal lawman and his feisty tracker, when a
- 54:03Speaker 3: wily bounty hunter grabs their prisoner.
- 54:05Speaker 11: What the hell happened here?
- 54:07Speaker 16: Mr.
- 54:08Speaker 9: Rowan here thinks he's gonna take our prisoner.
- 54:10Speaker 3: They vow to track him to the edge of existence.
- 54:14Speaker 4: Poisoned God.
- 54:16Speaker 15: Now drop the gun and we'll talk about getting you
- 54:17Speaker 15: the antidote.
- 54:19Speaker 11: I never believe a man staring down the barrel of
- 54:21Speaker 11: a gun.
- 54:22Speaker 4: Well, you should this time.
- 54:24Speaker 3: Now it's a race against time across dangerous territory.
- 54:28Speaker 2: This is forbidden territory.
- 54:29Speaker 17: What are you doing?
- 54:30Speaker 2: You're under arrest.
- 54:32Speaker 7: Dollar.
- 54:34Speaker 2: Show them what we got, boys.
- 54:39Speaker 1: This is what hell is.
- 54:41Speaker 9: You're stuck in a place like this forever.
- 54:43Speaker 6: I can help you.
- 54:44Speaker 3: A battle of wits in an unknown land.
- 54:46Speaker 14: I'll give you the antidote.
- 54:50Speaker 4: Then I'll shoot you.
- 54:52Speaker 7: That's what I like.
- 54:54Speaker 4: Teamwork and a sense of fair play.
- 54:57Speaker 14: Go to hell!
- 54:59Speaker 8: It's our next stop!
- 55:00Speaker 1: A test of courage under fire.
- 55:04Speaker 9: I should kill you right now is what I should do.
- 55:09Speaker 3: And this time there will be no prisoners.
- 55:20Speaker 8: Slipstream.

- 55:45Speaker 1: Doo-Wop Shop. We're serious about music.
- 55:50Speaker 14: Hi, this is Horne Peterson.
- 55:59Speaker 1: And you're listening to Movie Meltdown.
- 56:01Speaker 4: Movie Meltdown.
- 56:15Speaker 1: It's part of your problem, you know.
- 56:17Speaker 2: You haven't seen enough movies.
- 56:18Speaker 8: All of life's riddles are.
- 56:19Speaker 2: Answered in the movies.
- 56:21Speaker 4: And now, on with the show.
- 56:24Speaker 14: The End.
- 56:47Speaker 4: Your favorite moment?
- 56:49Speaker 10: So the parts that I thought, when you see Rey
- 56:53Speaker 10: and she goes to all you know is her little cave,
- 56:57Speaker 10: and you see what looks like a stuffed doll with
- 57:02Speaker 10: the colors of a rebel pilot from the original one.
- 57:05Speaker 10: So you know, again, 30 years have gone past and
- 57:09Speaker 10: all of these events have sort of fallen into sort
- 57:11Speaker 10: of myths. And so the fact that she's grown up
- 57:15Speaker 10: on this planet with the remnants of a giant war,
- 57:18Speaker 10: and these are the things that she sort of extracted
- 57:20Speaker 10: from it. And then you pose back and you see
- 57:22Speaker 10: she's in an attic. Like, how badass of a cave
- 57:25Speaker 10: is that?
- 57:25Speaker 9: The best house to have? I still want that now.
- 57:28Speaker 10: And then she's sitting there eating, and she puts on
- 57:30Speaker 10: the helmet. It's like, that's all you need to know is...
- 57:34Speaker 10: That was a huge amount of character development with nothing
- 57:39Speaker 10: said and just a stuffed doll in the background, and
- 57:42Speaker 10: then she puts a helmet on. And then even her
- 57:45Speaker 10: mask was Stormtrooper, with the eyes from a Stormtrooper mask.
- 57:49Speaker 10: So all these things that she has in her life
- 57:52Speaker 10: because she just got dumped on this planet are all
- 57:56Speaker 10: these bits and pieces.
- 57:57Speaker 9: Of the past.
- 57:59Speaker 10: Especially the doll. That was probably her doll as a child.
- 58:02Speaker 10: Or she made it. But that just shows you that
- 58:05Speaker 10: she is looking for her place in this universe. And
- 58:08Speaker 10: all she's got is the history of what's gone on.
- 58:12Speaker 10: And again, no words. She didn't have to have a
- 58:14Speaker 10: dialogue with anyone. It's just all there. Especially the helmet bit.
- 58:17Speaker 9: I was like, damn.
- 58:19Speaker 8: Let me ask you something. Because you're bringing up something
- 58:22Speaker 8: that I've been reading. There's some inevitable backlash online saying
- 58:28Speaker 8: that this character of Rey was too perfect. She knew
- 58:31Speaker 8: how to do everything perfectly.
- 58:34Speaker 18: She could pick stuff up pretty quick. She could fix
- 58:36Speaker 18: a ship perfectly. She could pilot perfectly. She could use
- 58:40Speaker 18: a lightsaber without any training. She knew how to do
- 58:43Speaker 18: the Jedi mind trick without ever hearing about it before.
- 58:47Speaker 18: I'm not agreeing with that, but that's what a lot
- 58:50Speaker 18: of knuckle-draggers online are saying. The way I was explaining
- 58:53Speaker 18: it in my head was that scene where her and
- 58:57Speaker 18: Finn are talking to Han And they're like, oh, you
- 59:00Speaker 18: were there. And they convey that all this stuff that
- 59:02Speaker 18: has happened before has been like.
- 59:10Speaker 8: This legend has has become stories and passed down so
- 59:14Speaker 8: I was thinking in my fan retcon head you know
- 59:19Speaker 8: maybe she's heard stories about Jedi's and she's heard stories
- 59:22Speaker 8: that they can do this Jedi mind trick and so
- 59:24Speaker 8: she was there and she just tried it out I
- 59:26Speaker 8: mean what.
- 59:26Speaker 10: Would I assume the same thing. And again, you know, um,
- 59:32Speaker 10: How someone who grew up as a kid on the
- 59:34Speaker 10: planet knows how to pilot a spaceship, I don't know.
- 59:37Speaker 10: But it's sort of like, you know, I can get,
- 59:38Speaker 10: I only drive a certain car, but I can get
- 59:41Speaker 10: in a car and sort of still drive it. I
- 59:43Speaker 10: can get in a truck and drive it.
- 59:44Speaker 9: That's what I was going to say. I will at
- 59:46Speaker 9: least argue, she doesn't pilot the ship perfectly. And that's
- 59:49Speaker 9: kind of, again, one of my favorite scenes. Her banging
- 59:51Speaker 9: the hell out of the Falcon is pretty fun, actually,
- 59:54Speaker 9: because she's just like, I don't know, this thing's a
- 59:56Speaker 9: piece of junk. It's been sitting here most of my life,
- 59:58Speaker 9: and I've never flown it before. So it's like, she's
- 1:00:01Speaker 9: probably a decent pilot. but not in that ship.
- 1:00:04Speaker 10: Well, and again, there are things I will give movies
- 1:00:10Speaker 10: for playing fast and loose with the rules. And everyone
- 1:00:16Speaker 10: sort of draws their lines of, you went too far
- 1:00:18Speaker 10: with this and you didn't with that. And as long
- 1:00:22Speaker 10: as the ride is fun, I'm able to give most
- 1:00:24Speaker 10: movies a pretty wide berth on suspending my disbelief in things.
- 1:00:29Speaker 11: Yeah, and I'm thinking about, like, her whole life on Jakku.
- 1:00:32Speaker 6: Just, like, she goes and she, like, loots little parts
- 1:00:37Speaker 6: and trades them in for rations.
- 1:00:38Speaker 11: And, like, what else is she doing with her time? Nothing.
- 1:00:41Speaker 8: Building things.
- 1:00:42Speaker 6: Better learn everything about the interior of a ship. Like,
- 1:00:45Speaker 6: that's what she can do with her time. It's not
- 1:00:47Speaker 6: like she's going to college or she has, like. a
- 1:00:49Speaker 6: full-time job or something. She's got her staff. So she
- 1:00:53Speaker 6: can learn some fighting moves with that thing.
- 1:00:55Speaker 9: See, that's my thing with the exception of the lightsaber battle,
- 1:00:57Speaker 9: which she does pick up really quickly. But again, we're
- 1:01:00Speaker 9: going to chalk that up to future things that we
- 1:01:03Speaker 9: don't know about yet. I'm pretty sure it's a family thing,
- 1:01:06Speaker 9: but that aside, I'm like everything else I attribute to
- 1:01:10Speaker 9: her just being a scrapper. Like, I mean, she's just,
- 1:01:13Speaker 9: She's grown up by herself, essentially. She's fought every day
- 1:01:17Speaker 9: of her life just to survive, just to go get food.
- 1:01:20Speaker 9: So like, we know she knows how to kick people's
- 1:01:22Speaker 9: ass because she learned that the hard way. She learned
- 1:01:24Speaker 9: how to pilot a ship because she needed to pilot
- 1:01:26Speaker 9: a ship. She's like just one of those kids that's
- 1:01:27Speaker 9: just like, I don't, much like Han Solo said, I
- 1:01:30Speaker 9: don't question this shit. I just have to do it,
- 1:01:32Speaker 9: so I go do it. So even her in the blaster,
- 1:01:35Speaker 9: she's like, I think I can handle myself. What do
- 1:01:37Speaker 9: I do? Okay, I'll figure it out. Everything is just
- 1:01:40Speaker 9: sort of on the fly, and she just happens to
- 1:01:42Speaker 9: be pretty good at it because she's pretty damn good.
- 1:01:44Speaker 8: I will say one thing, though. No way in hell
- 1:01:46Speaker 8: she grew up on that desert planet and had perfect complexion.
- 1:01:49Speaker 8: I had to draw the line there.
- 1:01:52Speaker 11: I draw the line there, too.
- 1:01:54Speaker 8: The Force awakens to perfect skin.
- 1:01:56Speaker 9: I don't know. She'd be a raisin. That's why she
- 1:02:02Speaker 9: was dressed like a Tusken Raider.
- 1:02:04Speaker 8: That old lady was 30 years old.
- 1:02:07Speaker 10: It's in the future past. Maybe they have great sunscreen.
- 1:02:13Speaker 10: That is cheap and widely available across the galaxy.
- 1:02:17Speaker 11: Did she have the shaved armpits? I don't even remember.
- 1:02:18Speaker 9: Because she's a classy gal. Come on now. I mean,
- 1:02:21Speaker 9: that must go not my favorite childhood part, but my
- 1:02:25Speaker 9: favorite a little bit older than childhood part. Daisy is
- 1:02:28Speaker 9: so damn cute.
- 1:02:28Speaker 8: It's ridiculous.
- 1:02:29Speaker 9: So midway in, I was just like, for God's sakes.
- 1:02:33Speaker 10: So half the movie, I'm like, man, she looks like,
- 1:02:35Speaker 10: oh God, what was her name? Played Amidala's devil. Keira Knightley. God,
- 1:02:43Speaker 10: she looks so much like Keira Knightley.
- 1:02:45Speaker 9: I think, I don't know, she might be a little cuter.
- 1:02:47Speaker 10: No, I'm just saying, I looked at her and go, man,
- 1:02:50Speaker 10: she so looks like a young Keira Knightley.
- 1:02:52Speaker 9: But they do like that look, I suppose, because that's
- 1:02:54Speaker 9: three in a row. Because Keira Knightley looks exactly like
- 1:02:56Speaker 9: Natalie Portman, obviously. That's why they cast her. So they
- 1:02:59Speaker 9: kind of have a thing they're going for in this
- 1:03:01Speaker 9: Star Wars universe.
- 1:03:03Speaker 10: So your favorite scene?
- 1:03:06Speaker 8: I was grinning throughout the whole movie. But the one
- 1:03:09Speaker 8: moment that completely surprised me, made me feel like a
- 1:03:15Speaker 8: kid again, I'm a little bit embarrassed about. it was
- 1:03:18Speaker 8: the part, because I didn't see it coming, and I
- 1:03:21Speaker 8: should have, and I completely did not see it coming.
- 1:03:23Speaker 9: I had a few of those moments.
- 1:03:24Speaker 8: It's the part where Rey and Finn are in the desert,
- 1:03:27Speaker 8: the TIE fighters are shooting at them, they're running, and
- 1:03:29Speaker 8: they're arguing, let's take that ship. No, no, that's a
- 1:03:32Speaker 8: piece of junk, it hasn't flown in years. What about
- 1:03:34Speaker 8: that ship? No, and they kept saying, piece of junk,
- 1:03:37Speaker 8: piece of junk, I should have known. For whatever reason,
- 1:03:40Speaker 8: went over my head. The minute they showed the Falcon,
- 1:03:44Speaker 8: it was, I just had this, it was like, lightning
- 1:03:47Speaker 8: hit me and I felt stupid for not getting the reference.
- 1:03:50Speaker 8: I was laughing because it's the Falcon.
- 1:03:53Speaker 9: We're home in your head.
- 1:03:54Speaker 8: No, not yet.
- 1:03:55Speaker 9: But it was just, I was kind of thinking, like,
- 1:03:57Speaker 9: I remember as soon as the ship blew up, I went, Oh,
- 1:04:00Speaker 9: the garbage that's going to be the Falcon.
- 1:04:02Speaker 8: But I think I was so in, I was so
- 1:04:05Speaker 8: like running with them that the reference went over my
- 1:04:09Speaker 8: head and I couldn't believe it. I'm such a nerdy
- 1:04:11Speaker 8: fan boy. And, I was thinking about it later. I
- 1:04:13Speaker 8: was like, why didn't I get that? And then I realized,
- 1:04:15Speaker 8: I think it's because I never saw the Falcon as junk.
- 1:04:17Speaker 8: I always saw it as cool and beautiful.
- 1:04:19Speaker 9: It's funny that everyone else in that universe constantly thinks
- 1:04:23Speaker 9: it's just a piece of crap. And he's just like, no,
- 1:04:25Speaker 9: this is my cool ride, man.
- 1:04:26Speaker 8: Well, they all grew up with Nubian ships being all
- 1:04:30Speaker 8: sleek and silver. But that was the moment where, because again,
- 1:04:34Speaker 8: they kept referencing it. I didn't get it. So when
- 1:04:36Speaker 8: they showed it, It came out of nowhere for me.
- 1:04:39Speaker 8: And I was like, ah!
- 1:04:41Speaker 9: I will say that.
- 1:04:42Speaker 8: Popcorn was spilled. Coke was spewed.
- 1:04:45Speaker 9: Be glad you weren't sitting next to Ben. That scene,
- 1:04:48Speaker 9: that part of it aside, I will say that was
- 1:04:50Speaker 9: a cool moment. Because have we ever really seen TIE
- 1:04:54Speaker 9: Fighters on land? Like, it's always just like they're nothing
- 1:04:58Speaker 9: but deep space, you know, well. No, they're not ready
- 1:05:01Speaker 9: for deep space. But we always see them just in
- 1:05:03Speaker 9: dogfights out in space. So watching one dive bomb people
- 1:05:07Speaker 9: and just annihilating stuff physically around you, that was kind
- 1:05:12Speaker 9: of a scary scene. It was the World War II
- 1:05:14Speaker 9: fighters coming at people on the deck kind of thing.
- 1:05:17Speaker 8: I will say the TV show Rebels kind of ruined
- 1:05:19Speaker 8: that for me because they do a lot of that
- 1:05:21Speaker 8: in there.
- 1:05:21Speaker 9: They do. I mean, they worked in a lot of things.
- 1:05:25Speaker 9: And that's something I was going to come back to
- 1:05:26Speaker 9: because you said it's a good Star Wars movie. Star
- 1:05:29Speaker 9: Wars Rebels... every time I see it. I haven't watched
- 1:05:32Speaker 9: it religiously, but I'm like, every time I'm seeing it,
- 1:05:34Speaker 9: I'm like, it's telling a good Star Wars story every time.
- 1:05:38Speaker 9: And they've worked in, because it kind of takes place
- 1:05:40Speaker 9: around the same time as the original three, so it's like,
- 1:05:43Speaker 9: it works in all the references we already know.
- 1:05:46Speaker 8: Technically, I've been told it takes place like 15 years
- 1:05:49Speaker 8: before episode four.
- 1:05:50Speaker 9: But I'm saying it's within that time frame. So it's like,
- 1:05:53Speaker 9: we've still got the same ships. We've still got the same,
- 1:05:55Speaker 9: you know, sort of people in power, more or less.
- 1:05:58Speaker 9: But I think that was equally as impressive that they
- 1:06:01Speaker 9: found a way to make that work week in and
- 1:06:04Speaker 9: week out and be a good. So that's what I
- 1:06:07Speaker 9: said from the beginning. It's like years ago when we said,
- 1:06:11Speaker 9: is this a good idea? Do you remember this, Ben?
- 1:06:14Speaker 9: We had this conversation of they're going to start making
- 1:06:16Speaker 9: them again and everybody else wanted to be whiny fanboys.
- 1:06:19Speaker 9: And I was just like, no. The good thing is
- 1:06:22Speaker 9: they're taking Lucas out of the loop. He does not
- 1:06:25Speaker 9: need to be there. I respect him. I've actually got
- 1:06:28Speaker 9: a lot of newfound respect for him lately now that
- 1:06:30Speaker 9: he's gone. But on top of that, I'm like, there's
- 1:06:34Speaker 9: such a rich universe and there's so many other stories
- 1:06:36Speaker 9: to tell, even in the same time period. You know,
- 1:06:39Speaker 9: it's like, there's still so many other cool characters that
- 1:06:42Speaker 9: we could be going into. Cause I said, even at
- 1:06:45Speaker 9: the time, I don't, we don't even have to go
- 1:06:47Speaker 9: back to the original crew. If they want to do seven,
- 1:06:49Speaker 9: eight and nine, that has nothing to do with Luke
- 1:06:51Speaker 9: and Han. And I'm like, that would be fine with me.
- 1:06:53Speaker 9: They found a pretty good way to work them in.
- 1:06:55Speaker 9: I'm okay with how they went with it. But I'm like,
- 1:06:58Speaker 9: there's just so many other stories out there. And it
- 1:07:00Speaker 9: sucks that people were being so rigid with it. They're like, oh,
- 1:07:04Speaker 9: I only want these three. This is canon. Don't touch
- 1:07:07Speaker 9: anything else. I'm like, but if you can have other
- 1:07:09Speaker 9: good stories. Yeah, we all don't want sucky stories. Essentially,
- 1:07:13Speaker 9: I don't want that every time I go to the movies.
- 1:07:14Speaker 9: But I'm like, if you can tell good stories in
- 1:07:17Speaker 9: that universe, that's all I want. But aren't you going
- 1:07:20Speaker 9: to be getting that?
- 1:07:21Speaker 8: Because they're going to have these spinoff movies now.
- 1:07:24Speaker 9: They are now.
- 1:07:24Speaker 8: That's what I'm saying. They're going to be completely separate.
- 1:07:26Speaker 8: So you're getting both, you know?
- 1:07:27Speaker 9: This has shown us that we can have that universe
- 1:07:31Speaker 9: and tell these stories and have them not suck. Because
- 1:07:34Speaker 9: all we saw were the first one, two, and three.
- 1:07:36Speaker 9: And I'm like, if they're all going to be like that, no, stop.
- 1:07:39Speaker 8: I don't want that.
- 1:07:39Speaker 9: Because you're just bastardizing it. But I'm like, it can
- 1:07:43Speaker 9: be better than that. And it's like looking at it,
- 1:07:44Speaker 9: I'm like, I know the universe is way too rich
- 1:07:47Speaker 9: to just... I mean, it was just from... From episode four,
- 1:07:50Speaker 9: from the very first one, it was such a lived-in,
- 1:07:53Speaker 9: cool universe that I'm like, there's way more stuff that
- 1:07:56Speaker 9: we could do with this. And it would suck if
- 1:07:57Speaker 9: all we got was three movies and we were out.
- 1:07:59Speaker 9: So it's like, I'm fine with them doing really good
- 1:08:02Speaker 9: stuff as long as it's really good stuff.
- 1:08:04Speaker 10: Well, and that's why, honestly, I know you don't care
- 1:08:08Speaker 10: about the Marvel stuff, but what Marvel and Disney have
- 1:08:10Speaker 10: done has been pretty genius of every two years you
- 1:08:14Speaker 10: get the tentpole movie and then On the other years,
- 1:08:17Speaker 10: you get two or three added movies that may tie in,
- 1:08:20Speaker 10: may not, but it doesn't matter. It's all still good stuff,
- 1:08:23Speaker 10: which they're doing with the Star Wars one. So every
- 1:08:25Speaker 10: two to three years, you're going to get seven, eight, nine,
- 1:08:28Speaker 10: and then you're going to get in between. You're going
- 1:08:30Speaker 10: to get the Rogue Squadron. You're going to get the
- 1:08:32Speaker 10: Han Solo. You're going to get the Lano Calrissian. You're
- 1:08:35Speaker 10: going to get all the extra little stuff that may apply,
- 1:08:38Speaker 10: may not apply, but the universe, which was probably why
- 1:08:43Speaker 10: the first one was so awesome, was because it was
- 1:08:46Speaker 10: You know, there's ways you tell your stories where you
- 1:08:48Speaker 10: constrain it. And then there's ways where, you know, everyone
- 1:08:51Speaker 10: always talks about the dialogue. And the first one was
- 1:08:53Speaker 10: so bad. I'm like, no, it wasn't. It was great
- 1:08:55Speaker 10: because it allows you to assume that everyone knows what
- 1:08:58Speaker 10: they're talking about and that there's all this other. stuff
- 1:09:00Speaker 10: out there that you can extrapolate from.
- 1:09:03Speaker 9: Because bad dialogue is when you explain everything. Because you're going,
- 1:09:08Speaker 9: when do I walk in and tell everyone in my
- 1:09:10Speaker 9: job Exactly what I'm about to do because the people
- 1:09:15Speaker 9: at home don't understand. But I'm like, the people you're
- 1:09:16Speaker 9: working with would be like, what are you, an idiot? Yeah,
- 1:09:18Speaker 9: we know. You're here every day, moron. So I mean, like,
- 1:09:21Speaker 9: it was just lived in and everything was foreign. So
- 1:09:24Speaker 9: it's like you'd be talking about an alien or a
- 1:09:26Speaker 9: spaceship or something and they didn't explain it to you.
- 1:09:28Speaker 9: You were just thrown into this weird world. And I
- 1:09:30Speaker 9: think that's why people's minds were blown in 77. They
- 1:09:34Speaker 9: were just like, what the hell is this?
- 1:09:35Speaker 8: Do you guys watch the Venture Brothers? Oh, God, yes.
- 1:09:39Speaker 8: Do you, Brian?
- 1:09:39Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:09:39Speaker 8: Do you guys?
- 1:09:40Speaker 9: I used to watch it regularly. I kind of lost
- 1:09:43Speaker 9: the last couple of seasons.
- 1:09:44Speaker 8: If you ever watch it, it's like the first year.
- 1:09:47Speaker 8: It basically just jumps in right in the middle of
- 1:09:50Speaker 8: this 50-year-long story, basically. And I heard an interview with
- 1:09:55Speaker 8: the guys who do it. Jackson Public and Doc Hammer.
- 1:09:59Speaker 8: And they said the reason they did that was because
- 1:10:05Speaker 8: one of their favorite moments from the original Star Wars...
- 1:10:09Speaker 8: was how Han would talk about the Kessel Run, and
- 1:10:13Speaker 8: you would just mention that, and then there would be
- 1:10:15Speaker 8: no more about it. Or they would just mention the
- 1:10:19Speaker 8: Clone Wars, there would be no more about it. It's
- 1:10:22Speaker 8: like they were saying that there was this larger story,
- 1:10:27Speaker 8: but they weren't telling you about it. So you had
- 1:10:30Speaker 8: to either fill it in or wonder, what is that?
- 1:10:32Speaker 8: And that was one of the most interesting things about
- 1:10:35Speaker 8: that movie from them. So when they did Venture Brothers,
- 1:10:37Speaker 8: they basically just, just started and they would mention things
- 1:10:41Speaker 8: that if you had done a proper show, you would
- 1:10:44Speaker 8: know what they're talking about. So just great, great.
- 1:10:49Speaker 9: Do we want to veer off? Because I have another
- 1:10:51Speaker 9: grand area to get into that ties kind of directly
- 1:10:55Speaker 9: to that and is more of a difference between, again,
- 1:10:59Speaker 9: this goes back to more of the memories of 4, 5,
- 1:11:01Speaker 9: and 6 versus the prequels. And how it kind of
- 1:11:06Speaker 9: ruined all that because, well, no, because it expanded on
- 1:11:09Speaker 9: all that. Because in Star Wars, A New Hope, at
- 1:11:13Speaker 9: the time, Star Wars, you're like, the Force is just
- 1:11:17Speaker 9: a freaking mystery. Like, it is just nothing but, like,
- 1:11:20Speaker 9: this weird old dude with a beard, knows how to
- 1:11:23Speaker 9: do it. Nobody else really understands it. He's got some
- 1:11:26Speaker 9: very sketchy, like, sort of mystical, like the universe and
- 1:11:30Speaker 9: binds everything together kind of crazy talk. But for the
- 1:11:33Speaker 9: most part, it is just complete mystery as to what
- 1:11:37Speaker 9: really makes it work. So then prequel science, here's some
- 1:11:41Speaker 9: sort of biological reason for it. I'm like, okay, that's bullshit.
- 1:11:44Speaker 9: I mean, not again, you can believe it if you want.
- 1:11:46Speaker 8: I don't care.
- 1:11:47Speaker 9: I'm just saying it extrapolating then takes the magic out
- 1:11:51Speaker 9: of what works so well in the four, five and six.
- 1:11:53Speaker 8: You know what it did? It, It made all those
- 1:11:57Speaker 8: moments in the original when a character would say to
- 1:11:59Speaker 8: someone else, may the force be with you. It made
- 1:12:01Speaker 8: that meaningless.
- 1:12:03Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:12:03Speaker 8: Because there's no way the force can be with you
- 1:12:05Speaker 8: unless you're infected by these space bugs. that give you
- 1:12:09Speaker 8: the Force. So it turned this encouraging thing into almost
- 1:12:14Speaker 8: like an insult. May the Force be with you. Oh, no,
- 1:12:16Speaker 8: that's right. You're not infected. Never mind.
- 1:12:18Speaker 17: You're a loser.
- 1:12:19Speaker 10: Your midichlorian count's not high enough for the Force to.
- 1:12:21Speaker 9: Be with you. Thankfully, I think it's funny that they've just.
- 1:12:24Speaker 2: But.
- 1:12:24Speaker 8: Midichlorians give you really good skin.
- 1:12:26Speaker 9: They've almost taken that out of the loop. I think
- 1:12:28Speaker 9: it's funny that, like, there has since then been no
- 1:12:31Speaker 9: mention of midichlorians. Like, he took so much heat on
- 1:12:34Speaker 9: the internet, he was just like, all right, let's just
- 1:12:36Speaker 9: stop talking about that right now.
- 1:12:37Speaker 8: Well, and.
- 1:12:38Speaker 10: And so you go back to the mystery of it
- 1:12:42Speaker 10: in the first three was what was interesting. But then
- 1:12:45Speaker 10: when you go back to, so you know these Jedis
- 1:12:48Speaker 10: as these powerful knights.
- 1:12:50Speaker 9: That was the next thing I was going to get to.
- 1:12:51Speaker 10: And then they go back to one, two, and three.
- 1:12:52Speaker 10: And you know something? I didn't like any of them.
- 1:12:55Speaker 10: They were all jerks. They were all idiots.
- 1:12:57Speaker 9: That's exactly what I was going to say.
- 1:12:59Speaker 10: It was such a constraining order.
- 1:13:01Speaker 4: Ruined Yoda.
- 1:13:02Speaker 10: Well, besides the special effects of Yoda and the first
- 1:13:04Speaker 10: one being the most God atrocious defense.
- 1:13:07Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:13:07Speaker 15: Yeah.
- 1:13:09Speaker 10: But basically, they made these guys who went from this wise, old,
- 1:13:12Speaker 10: cool man to being a bunch of bumbling idiots that
- 1:13:16Speaker 10: couldn't see the universe falling apart around them.
- 1:13:18Speaker 9: Not only that, do you remember, again, we mentioned the
- 1:13:21Speaker 9: Marvel series. Do you remember the Marvel comics when there
- 1:13:24Speaker 9: was that other weird old Jedi that was just freaking insane?
- 1:13:28Speaker 9: He was almost like Don Quixote. He thought he was
- 1:13:30Speaker 9: the last Jedi Knight and he had to fight for honor.
- 1:13:33Speaker 9: And he talked like a crazy person. And I'm like,
- 1:13:36Speaker 9: I remember reading that and going... That's the kind of
- 1:13:38Speaker 9: crazy Jedis I'm on board with. Old Ben and this
- 1:13:41Speaker 9: guy and teaching this weird Luke kid to do stuff.
- 1:13:43Speaker 8: You know what it's almost like? It's sort of like
- 1:13:45Speaker 8: the way people look back at the 60s with this nostalgia.
- 1:13:48Speaker 4: Oh, the 60s was so great.
- 1:13:49Speaker 8: Peace and love. It was so wonderful. But if you
- 1:13:52Speaker 8: talk to anyone that actually lived through the 60s, they
- 1:13:56Speaker 8: were like, it was crap. And hippies were the worst
- 1:14:00Speaker 8: thing ever. Probably people that lived during the Jedi Knights.
- 1:14:04Speaker 8: They were crap. You couldn't tell your problems to them
- 1:14:06Speaker 8: in it? I don't know.
- 1:14:07Speaker 9: But again, it's like watching those first three and being like,
- 1:14:12Speaker 9: Jedi Knights are like, you know, they're all gone now.
- 1:14:14Speaker 9: All we have is this legend of them, once again,
- 1:14:16Speaker 9: working it in as like this. We built up the
- 1:14:19Speaker 9: legend that they talk about in episode seven. We were
- 1:14:21Speaker 9: just like, we don't know. They're all gone. We only
- 1:14:24Speaker 9: hear weird little stories of what happened. so we assume
- 1:14:27Speaker 9: that they're these super cool guys, and then you go
- 1:14:29Speaker 9: back to the prequels, and to me, what really rubbed
- 1:14:32Speaker 9: me wrong is they're just religious zealots. like everything about
- 1:14:37Speaker 9: them isn't about the force as this cool mystical, like
- 1:14:41Speaker 9: natural thing. It comes off like a weird religion and
- 1:14:44Speaker 9: they're just like weird monks and they won't let the
- 1:14:46Speaker 9: kid get married and they won't, they have all these
- 1:14:48Speaker 9: damn rules. Suddenly they all become Spider-Man and with their
- 1:14:51Speaker 9: responsibility and power comes responsibility and you can't do that.
- 1:14:55Speaker 9: I don't know. All of a sudden the rules are
- 1:14:57Speaker 9: nothing but an annoyance and like everything that was cool
- 1:15:00Speaker 9: about them, it's totally sucked out and they have, bad
- 1:15:04Speaker 9: hair and they all dressed like ben's bathrobe and i
- 1:15:09Speaker 9: don't know it all gets really annoying that it becomes
- 1:15:12Speaker 9: such a thing like they all have to follow this
- 1:15:14Speaker 9: stupid little here you have to have a gluten-free yeah
- 1:15:18Speaker 9: i don't know everything about them became so uncool when
- 1:15:22Speaker 9: we ironed it all out and put it all in
- 1:15:24Speaker 9: in the books it's like here's how you become a
- 1:15:26Speaker 9: jedi go to jedi school i'm like this is not
- 1:15:29Speaker 9: cool at all, this is school.
- 1:15:31Speaker 10: And I'm pretty sure the Jedi would probably be okay
- 1:15:33Speaker 10: with abducting kids.
- 1:15:35Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 1:15:35Speaker 10: You sort of have a feeling that some of those
- 1:15:37Speaker 10: younglings weren't there by choice. They were like, you know,
- 1:15:41Speaker 10: you're strong in the Force. Well, come with me, because
- 1:15:43Speaker 10: we can't let you be outside of our organization and
- 1:15:46Speaker 10: be strong in the Force, because... I.
- 1:15:49Speaker 9: Feel like becoming, again, if you go back to 1, 2, 3,
- 1:15:53Speaker 9: getting recruited as a youngling was something like being a
- 1:15:56Speaker 9: relatively good ice skater in Russia. You know what? You're
- 1:16:00Speaker 9: just going to have to come with us. Say goodbye
- 1:16:02Speaker 9: to your parents. This guy's your teacher now. You're going
- 1:16:05Speaker 9: to do nothing but train for the rest of your life.
- 1:16:08Speaker 8: In the original Star Wars, they really made it out
- 1:16:11Speaker 8: to where the Force would work for anybody. You just
- 1:16:14Speaker 8: had to believe enough. That was the only criteria, was
- 1:16:19Speaker 8: you had to believe enough and you could tap into
- 1:16:22Speaker 8: the Force. And then when the prequels come along, in the,
- 1:16:26Speaker 8: the metachlorians. And then it's like, no, it's suddenly become
- 1:16:29Speaker 8: this caste system. And suddenly this group of people is
- 1:16:32Speaker 8: better than everyone else because they can get the force.
- 1:16:34Speaker 8: So again, it's meaningless to say, may the force be, be,
- 1:16:37Speaker 8: be with you.
- 1:16:38Speaker 9: It's just, well, and then you get the weird little, like,
- 1:16:41Speaker 9: because they're so tied in the government. So then you
- 1:16:43Speaker 9: get the, Again, the Jedi's become the America of the world.
- 1:16:47Speaker 9: They're like, well, we're the peacekeepers of this universe, so
- 1:16:49Speaker 9: we're going to go around and get ourselves involved in
- 1:16:52Speaker 9: every battle all over the galaxy to make sure that
- 1:16:55Speaker 9: things go the way that we think they should in
- 1:16:57Speaker 9: the Jedi Council. I'm like, who the hell put you.
- 1:17:00Speaker 8: Guys in too hard? Meanwhile, the Senate's like, give sanctions
- 1:17:02Speaker 8: more time. Can I ask you a question? Get back
- 1:17:04Speaker 8: to episode seven. You know the part, you know, Finn,
- 1:17:08Speaker 8: in the beginning, Finn's wearing the Stormtrooper suit, and it's
- 1:17:10Speaker 8: his first mission, and, you know, he's ordered to shoot
- 1:17:13Speaker 8: villagers and he can't do it it's like he suddenly
- 1:17:16Speaker 8: awakens haha you know wait a minute what am I
- 1:17:19Speaker 8: doing are we to somehow think that he has a
- 1:17:24Speaker 8: little bit of force stuff in him because he kind
- 1:17:26Speaker 8: of woke up from his conditioning or Like, why was
- 1:17:31Speaker 8: it just then?
- 1:17:32Speaker 9: Yeah, why no other Stormtrooper? It was like his.
- 1:17:34Speaker 11: Friend dying, and then he was like, oh, no, and
- 1:17:38Speaker 11: then he suddenly couldn't.
- 1:17:39Speaker 9: Was it as simple as that?
- 1:17:41Speaker 10: Well, they did make a point that I think that
- 1:17:42Speaker 10: was his first ever, like, mission.
- 1:17:45Speaker 4: Right, yeah.
- 1:17:46Speaker 9: He'd never seen.
- 1:17:47Speaker 8: Battle, period.
- 1:17:47Speaker 10: So he trained and trained and trained. Oh, my friend
- 1:17:50Speaker 10: just got killed in front of me and wiped his
- 1:17:51Speaker 10: bloody hand across my mask. I'm not down for this.
- 1:17:54Speaker 9: Yeah. Well, and then, hey, go shoot some innocent people now.
- 1:17:57Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:17:59Speaker 11: I mean, it is like brainwashed from birth.
- 1:18:02Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:18:02Speaker 11: So I feel like it does take like a certain
- 1:18:04Speaker 11: kind of like event.
- 1:18:06Speaker 9: And it does give us more perspective.
- 1:18:08Speaker 11: Or this inner strength.
- 1:18:09Speaker 9: Than we ever had. Because this is like the horrors
- 1:18:11Speaker 9: of war. And like, you don't really get that in
- 1:18:13Speaker 9: the old movies. They're just like dumb stormtroopers.
- 1:18:15Speaker 8: This is something else about episode seven that I was realizing.
- 1:18:18Speaker 8: I actually found the stormtroopers scary. I never did in
- 1:18:22Speaker 8: the past.
- 1:18:23Speaker 9: They were bumbling idiots.
- 1:18:24Speaker 8: Well, I think it's because we actually see them massacring
- 1:18:28Speaker 8: an entire village. It says, kill them all, and they
- 1:18:30Speaker 8: immediately do it. All we ever heard about in the
- 1:18:33Speaker 8: original movie was that stormtroopers are bad, but we never
- 1:18:36Speaker 8: actually see that. The most we ever see stormtroopers doing
- 1:18:41Speaker 8: is going door to door looking for the droids. Oh,
- 1:18:43Speaker 8: the door is locked? Move on. That is as scary
- 1:18:47Speaker 8: and as bad as we ever see them being.
- 1:18:49Speaker 14: Really?
- 1:18:50Speaker 8: Don't actually see them light up Uncle Owen and Aunt
- 1:18:54Speaker 8: Beru's hut. We're just told that.
- 1:18:56Speaker 9: They do that. It's arguable that that's even what happened.
- 1:18:58Speaker 8: It was Boba Fett. But here in Episode 7, we're
- 1:19:02Speaker 8: actually seeing them do really vicious things. And I was
- 1:19:06Speaker 8: really uncomfortable in a lot of scenes.
- 1:19:09Speaker 9: Again, they are stormtroopers. They probably should have a little
- 1:19:14Speaker 9: bit of that.
- 1:19:14Speaker 8: Well, I think it's because in the Clone Wars, you
- 1:19:16Speaker 8: had clones that were conditioned to be warriors and all that.
- 1:19:19Speaker 8: In Episode VII, they say that the First Order is
- 1:19:22Speaker 8: basically stealing kids and conditioning them to be soldiers. During
- 1:19:27Speaker 8: the Empire years, I think those were just guys that
- 1:19:29Speaker 8: were basically drafted, and they were there on the college bill,
- 1:19:33Speaker 8: on the college GI fund. So they weren't the best,
- 1:19:35Speaker 8: and they were just kind of doing their time before
- 1:19:37Speaker 8: they can go to dental school.
- 1:19:39Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:19:40Speaker 8: Yeah, so I never really found the Stormtroopers that scary. Now,
- 1:19:46Speaker 8: I got this weird, I don't know, like if I
- 1:19:48Speaker 8: see the 501st out there doing their charity work, I'm
- 1:19:51Speaker 8: going to feel a little weird about it.
- 1:19:53Speaker 9: That's what I always thought was funny, again, to cross
- 1:19:54Speaker 9: over to the real world, that people wanted to dress
- 1:19:57Speaker 9: up because there's a million guys out there with Stormtrooper costumes.
- 1:19:59Speaker 9: I'm like, why are you dressing up like the dorks
- 1:20:02Speaker 9: of the universe? I'm like, you want to dress like
- 1:20:04Speaker 9: Darth Vader? That's cool. You want to dress like Boba Fett?
- 1:20:06Speaker 10: He's kind of a badass outfit-wise.
- 1:20:08Speaker 9: But as far as like, the stormtroopers never do anything right.
- 1:20:13Speaker 9: I'm like, why does everybody want to dress up like
- 1:20:15Speaker 9: a stormtrooper?
- 1:20:16Speaker 10: Because they do look pretty badass.
- 1:20:18Speaker 9: Kind of, but that's my other thing in watching Rebels.
- 1:20:21Speaker 9: I'm like, even in that show, like every time we
- 1:20:24Speaker 9: see them, I'm like, maybe it was just 4, 5,
- 1:20:26Speaker 9: and 6. But I'm like, that armor is terrible. It
- 1:20:29Speaker 9: doesn't protect you from anything. You can't see a damn thing.
- 1:20:32Speaker 4: Yeah, sure.
- 1:20:34Speaker 8: That show really illustrates the whole how these are just
- 1:20:38Speaker 8: guys that are there on the GI Bill. They don't care, good, evil, whatever.
- 1:20:42Speaker 8: I'm just doing my thing.
- 1:20:43Speaker 9: And especially when it gets to the clones, they were like,
- 1:20:45Speaker 9: we just got stuck doing this and we didn't even
- 1:20:47Speaker 9: want to do it and now we've left it. But yeah,
- 1:20:50Speaker 9: that's my takeaway. Why has the Empire not wised up
- 1:20:54Speaker 9: or the new version of the Empire and be like,
- 1:20:56Speaker 9: let's lose this armor. It's not protecting us. They can't
- 1:20:59Speaker 9: see a damn thing. They're a little bit scary, but
- 1:21:02Speaker 9: is that worth all the other stuff that comes with it?
- 1:21:05Speaker 10: Well, but they make a good point in the seventh
- 1:21:07Speaker 10: movie where she goes, why is your helmet off? Did
- 1:21:11Speaker 10: anyone give you permission to take off your helmet? Because
- 1:21:13Speaker 10: it is a dehumanizing, you are all the same. And
- 1:21:19Speaker 10: no one, you're not your face because that gives you
- 1:21:21Speaker 10: an identity. So it was a nice little throwaway line,
- 1:21:25Speaker 10: especially the other line about, well, you had a defection.
- 1:21:30Speaker 10: Maybe we should just go back to a clone army.
- 1:21:32Speaker 10: You know, those little throwaway lines really show you that
- 1:21:35Speaker 10: it's dehumanizing to be a Stormtrooper.
- 1:21:39Speaker 8: Speaking of hats.
- 1:21:42Speaker 8: How did you feel about the fact Kylo Ren would
- 1:21:44Speaker 8: take off his hat and you'd see this emo kid
- 1:21:47Speaker 8: down there? Did it ruin it for you?
- 1:21:50Speaker 9: No, not at all.
- 1:21:55Speaker 10: Part of what I think you have to accept when
- 1:21:57Speaker 10: you go into the new movie is that this is
- 1:22:00Speaker 10: a changeover. This is a switchover from the old guard
- 1:22:03Speaker 10: to the new guard. So you couldn't have two young
- 1:22:06Speaker 10: antagonists and then An old guy playing the corresponding bad
- 1:22:11Speaker 10: guy on their side. I think that you sort of
- 1:22:13Speaker 10: needed this. That didn't bother me at all.
- 1:22:18Speaker 13: He looked like Gene Simmons' son.
- 1:22:20Speaker 10: Well, and I think, again, he is idolizing the mythology
- 1:22:25Speaker 10: of These people that went before him. So he and
- 1:22:30Speaker 10: his Knights of Ren are all about masks and intimidating
- 1:22:33Speaker 10: masks because the badass that was your order wore a mask.
- 1:22:39Speaker 10: So we are going to sort of pretend to be
- 1:22:41Speaker 10: him by having our own masks.
- 1:22:43Speaker 9: That's what I thought. I was like, it would have
- 1:22:45Speaker 9: seemed silly for just this other random guy to show
- 1:22:48Speaker 9: up kind of wearing a mask like Darth Vader. Except
- 1:22:51Speaker 9: that he was specifically referencing and idolizing and wanting to
- 1:22:56Speaker 9: be just like Vader. So it made more sense.
- 1:22:58Speaker 8: I have a question about that. He's idolizing Vader. He
- 1:23:01Speaker 8: wants to be just like Vader. He's sitting in his
- 1:23:03Speaker 8: chambers asking Vader's spirit for guidance. He's saying, I'm going
- 1:23:06Speaker 8: to continue your work. The whole point of Darth Vader
- 1:23:10Speaker 8: is he becomes good at the very end. Who didn't
- 1:23:13Speaker 8: tell him this? Did Han and Leia leave out that
- 1:23:16Speaker 8: important part of the story? And if they did, then
- 1:23:19Speaker 8: maybe they were crappy parents.
- 1:23:21Speaker 9: Like most people in the Star Wars universe, they probably
- 1:23:24Speaker 9: just lie about backstory. Ben.
- 1:23:28Speaker 10: Well, you know, and again, maybe.
- 1:23:32Speaker 10: And again, it's an interesting play on the mythology of...
- 1:23:36Speaker 10: What lies have been told about what happened to Darth Vader,
- 1:23:40Speaker 10: about what happened to the Empire in the 30 years
- 1:23:42Speaker 10: that happened? And maybe he's just an angry kid who's like, well,
- 1:23:46Speaker 10: my parents told me this story, but everyone else is
- 1:23:49Speaker 10: telling me this story, especially this obviously corrupting power figure.
- 1:23:53Speaker 11: Yeah, of course the parents are going to be like,
- 1:23:55Speaker 11: but he got good at the end. And the kid's like, no,
- 1:23:57Speaker 11: he didn't.
- 1:23:58Speaker 9: See, that's why I like that he was sort of
- 1:24:00Speaker 9: an impetuous kid. Because we see, it's not like he's
- 1:24:04Speaker 9: a badass. We see him throw tantrums. He is a kid.
- 1:24:09Speaker 9: He is a confused, angry.
- 1:24:11Speaker 8: Which Darth Vader never did. He never threw a fit.
- 1:24:15Speaker 10: Which I like that scene. Because the guy walks in
- 1:24:18Speaker 10: and says, we lost him. And immediately, I think he's
- 1:24:22Speaker 10: going to turn around and kill the guy. But instead,
- 1:24:25Speaker 10: he just throws a tantrum and destroys a whole bunch
- 1:24:27Speaker 10: of equipment and is like, Okay, I'm back to being calm.
- 1:24:30Speaker 9: But I think, and I'm starting to see, now whether
- 1:24:33Speaker 9: or not it's the overall universe or just what I'm seeing,
- 1:24:36Speaker 9: this thread that runs through them now, but I'm like,
- 1:24:39Speaker 9: I like that because it does make sense in this
- 1:24:41Speaker 9: little universe because I feel like that angry... pissy teenager
- 1:24:47Speaker 9: that everybody was that's angry at not just their parents
- 1:24:50Speaker 9: but the whole damn world i feel like the dark side.
- 1:24:53Speaker 8: Feeds off of that maybe maybe that's why he has
- 1:24:56Speaker 8: to wear that mask it's like this uh shame hat
- 1:24:59Speaker 8: that the that the emperor snoke is like you keep
- 1:25:03Speaker 8: breaking things we can't have nice things you wear the
- 1:25:06Speaker 8: mask of shame the dunce hat yeah exactly By the way,
- 1:25:10Speaker 8: I did think it was weird that the new Emperor
- 1:25:12Speaker 8: guy looks like Voldemort and the new Darth Vader guy
- 1:25:16Speaker 8: looks like Snape. I thought that was kind of weird.
- 1:25:18Speaker 11: Oh, my God. Mind blown.
- 1:25:22Speaker 9: But, again, I think that really does kind of tie
- 1:25:26Speaker 9: in is that he is just an angry teenager. And
- 1:25:30Speaker 9: I feel like that's going to be when the dark
- 1:25:31Speaker 9: side shows up, right? If you're going to be seduced
- 1:25:34Speaker 9: by the dark side... It's at the time when you're
- 1:25:36Speaker 9: most vulnerable and most angry at the world because all
- 1:25:39Speaker 9: it does is feed off of your hate and anger.
- 1:25:41Speaker 8: We totally saw that in the prequel.
- 1:25:42Speaker 9: That's what I was going to say. People give Hayden
- 1:25:44Speaker 9: Christensen shit. I'm like, people don't like him, but I'm like,
- 1:25:48Speaker 9: you know what? I feel like everybody hates Attack of
- 1:25:51Speaker 9: the Clones. I feel like he does a pretty good
- 1:25:53Speaker 9: job at being a pissy teenager. And what's going to
- 1:25:56Speaker 9: happen to a pissy teenager? He's going to get seduced
- 1:25:57Speaker 9: by the dark side. He gets totally used by the emperor.
- 1:26:00Speaker 9: And it all makes sense that he plays it the
- 1:26:03Speaker 9: way he does. I don't hate him as much as
- 1:26:04Speaker 9: everybody else.
- 1:26:05Speaker 10: You know, I agree with that, except most of the
- 1:26:08Speaker 10: time as a teenager, I never got pissy enough to
- 1:26:11Speaker 10: where I was okay with going into a room with
- 1:26:14Speaker 10: small children and killing them all with a sword.
- 1:26:16Speaker 9: That was towards the end.
- 1:26:17Speaker 10: I never got that far.
- 1:26:18Speaker 9: But, see, you didn't get sucked into the dark side.
- 1:26:21Speaker 7: You had good parents.
- 1:26:22Speaker 9: Yeah, somebody pulled you back out of it. If you'd
- 1:26:25Speaker 9: gone down that road and nobody took you back.
- 1:26:27Speaker 8: Your dad wasn't a scoundrel.
- 1:26:28Speaker 10: Well, and again, maybe if the Jedi would allow their
- 1:26:31Speaker 10: parents to have some involvement with their kids.
- 1:26:33Speaker 9: There's another one.
- 1:26:34Speaker 10: Maybe that wouldn't have happened.
- 1:26:35Speaker 9: Maybe if the Jedi Council weren't freaking blind. I've heard
- 1:26:39Speaker 9: you go off on this.
- 1:26:39Speaker 8: Maybe if the Jedi Council would let him go and
- 1:26:41Speaker 8: rescue his mother from slavery. Yeah, Jedis are great.
- 1:26:46Speaker 9: Ben, I think I've heard you go on this rant
- 1:26:48Speaker 9: of the fact that Yoda totally just turns a blind eye.
- 1:26:51Speaker 9: He's like, hey, guys, I'm having some problems with this,
- 1:26:55Speaker 9: and I'm kind of angry.
- 1:26:56Speaker 7: And he's like, no.
- 1:26:58Speaker 8: Anakin goes to Yoda. He's trying to talk to him
- 1:27:01Speaker 8: about he's having these weird feelings. You know, this is
- 1:27:04Speaker 8: a problem. I need to talk about this, getting these
- 1:27:07Speaker 8: dark feelings. And Yoda is just like, la, la, la,
- 1:27:09Speaker 8: just ignore it. Don't worry about it. La, la, la,
- 1:27:12Speaker 8: bare your feelings. You ought to have had it coming.
- 1:27:15Speaker 10: Well, and then did they not notice that one of
- 1:27:18Speaker 10: their young Jedis was banging the ambassador and sleeping over
- 1:27:23Speaker 10: at her house.
- 1:27:25Speaker 9: And all that stuff the entire time? For guys that
- 1:27:28Speaker 9: are supposed to be able to pick up on things,
- 1:27:30Speaker 9: they're really kind of not paying attention.
- 1:27:31Speaker 8: Guys, I feel a disturbance in the force.
- 1:27:34Speaker 4: Whoa!
- 1:27:36Speaker 10: I mean, kids can't pass notes in high school without
- 1:27:39Speaker 10: getting caught. You don't think anyone noticed? Well, these are
- 1:27:42Speaker 10: space notes.
- 1:27:43Speaker 9: See, again, I think that I'm finding that in revisiting,
- 1:27:50Speaker 9: I've kind of gone back over them. There's another show
- 1:27:53Speaker 9: out there that does it minute by minute. I won't
- 1:27:55Speaker 9: totally plug them, but it's an awesome show. And I've
- 1:27:57Speaker 9: gone through these last couple of years and revisited. visited
- 1:28:01Speaker 9: Star Wars and Empire and Jedi and watching those I'm
- 1:28:04Speaker 9: like you also see that is Vader and that's the
- 1:28:07Speaker 9: Vader that we get eventually now we see him as
- 1:28:12Speaker 9: the super cool guy because we saw him as little
- 1:28:14Speaker 9: kids and we just saw him as sort of being
- 1:28:16Speaker 9: cold and badass and especially in Empire Empire he's pretty
- 1:28:20Speaker 9: badass but you see by the time he gets to
- 1:28:24Speaker 9: Jedi he's completely powerless and Like, the Emperor's already working
- 1:28:29Speaker 9: to take him out of the loop and screw him
- 1:28:31Speaker 9: over and bring Luke in. He has no real power
- 1:28:34Speaker 9: with the rest of the the empire like he's already
- 1:28:36Speaker 9: got like people bickering with him like he's very sad
- 1:28:40Speaker 9: by the end of Jedi because all he is is
- 1:28:43Speaker 9: freaking scared teenager And he didn't progress for those 20
- 1:28:47Speaker 9: years in between then. He's still the same whiny kid
- 1:28:50Speaker 9: that like all he did was throw a tantrum enough
- 1:28:52Speaker 9: to kill a bunch of kids and go off on
- 1:28:55Speaker 9: his master and then kind of get his ass kicked.
- 1:28:57Speaker 9: So again, he's sad all the way through. We just
- 1:29:00Speaker 9: kind of get this weird window of like, Darth is
- 1:29:03Speaker 9: cool and Darth is a badass. But I'm like, if
- 1:29:05Speaker 9: you look at it from the other side, I'm like,
- 1:29:08Speaker 9: he's in that suit because he was such a whiny
- 1:29:10Speaker 9: bitch and like he couldn't, handle the dark side and
- 1:29:14Speaker 9: he goes into this that's the other thing i've heard
- 1:29:16Speaker 9: lately is how much the being seduced by the dark
- 1:29:19Speaker 9: side is almost like a weird addiction and you see
- 1:29:22Speaker 9: especially like the end of jedi when he's like fighting
- 1:29:25Speaker 9: it he's like i don't you don't he's telling luke
- 1:29:28Speaker 9: You don't know the power. If you take it as
- 1:29:30Speaker 9: a weird addiction analogy, you don't know the power of
- 1:29:33Speaker 9: the dark side. I don't want to kill you, but
- 1:29:35Speaker 9: it's probably going to make me do that.
- 1:29:37Speaker 8: You know, whenever he said that, I always thought he
- 1:29:39Speaker 8: meant the power of the dark side, the power that
- 1:29:42Speaker 8: you can use to hurt people. You get the power.
- 1:29:44Speaker 9: That's not it.
- 1:29:44Speaker 8: Until now, I never really got that it was he
- 1:29:47Speaker 8: meant the power over him. Over him. Like the smoking addiction,
- 1:29:51Speaker 8: like the alcohol addiction. He's the same whiny little kid. Interesting.
- 1:29:54Speaker 9: Yeah, it's like by the end, I had a whole
- 1:29:56Speaker 9: new appreciation for all of this.
- 1:29:57Speaker 8: I can't believe I'm still thinking up new things about
- 1:29:59Speaker 8: these movies.
- 1:29:59Speaker 4: I know.
- 1:30:00Speaker 8: Like, okay, this is embarrassing. The other day in the shower,
- 1:30:02Speaker 8: I don't know why I was thinking about this. I
- 1:30:04Speaker 8: was thinking about the original movie when they go into
- 1:30:08Speaker 8: the canteen and you got the guy behind the bar
- 1:30:11Speaker 8: doing the droid racism. Like, we don't serve their kind.
- 1:30:14Speaker 8: Droids can't come in here. And Luke turns around and
- 1:30:17Speaker 8: is like, get out of here. That always struck me as, oh,
- 1:30:20Speaker 8: that's sad. They don't like the droids. Why don't they
- 1:30:22Speaker 8: like the droids? And for some reason it occurred to
- 1:30:24Speaker 8: me they're walking down steps to get into the bar.
- 1:30:29Speaker 8: The production guys were probably like, it's going to be
- 1:30:31Speaker 8: too much trouble getting R2 down the steps. Let's just
- 1:30:34Speaker 8: make up a rule that they're not allowed. It was
- 1:30:36Speaker 8: probably a time saver.
- 1:30:37Speaker 14: It was.
- 1:30:39Speaker 9: See, and that's the other side of this that I've
- 1:30:42Speaker 9: gotten revisiting those three, is how much respect I have
- 1:30:46Speaker 9: for Luke now.
- 1:30:47Speaker 8: Everybody likes to.
- 1:30:47Speaker 9: Make fun of whiny Luke, and you're picking my power converters.
- 1:30:50Speaker 9: But I'm like, again, you watch the journey and the
- 1:30:53Speaker 9: arc of his character, where... darth is a whiny bitch
- 1:30:58Speaker 9: and gives in to the dark side luke throws down
- 1:31:01Speaker 9: his fucking lightsaber and is like no i'm not gonna
- 1:31:04Speaker 9: do that he is so much stronger and completely like
- 1:31:07Speaker 9: it's not even questionable that he might turn to the
- 1:31:10Speaker 9: dark side it's thrown in there a little at the
- 1:31:13Speaker 9: beginning of jedi that maybe that's where he was going
- 1:31:15Speaker 9: but like from day one he's just like no i'm
- 1:31:18Speaker 9: not gonna go down that road so it's Again, I
- 1:31:21Speaker 9: have so much more respect for Luke being a badass
- 1:31:24Speaker 9: character because he didn't cave the way that we saw
- 1:31:27Speaker 9: Anakin do. And now, once we look at Rin doing
- 1:31:30Speaker 9: the same thing, it's like everybody else that's a whiny
- 1:31:32Speaker 9: little teenager gets sucked right in because they have no willpower. Like,
- 1:31:36Speaker 9: Luke's kind of a badass. Like, he's just like, yeah,
- 1:31:39Speaker 9: I could go that way, but I don't want to
- 1:31:41Speaker 9: do it that way. Screw you guys. I have a
- 1:31:44Speaker 9: whole new respect for Luke.
- 1:31:47Speaker 4: Like, I....
- 1:31:48Speaker 8: I love the fact he gets his ass kicked in Empire.
- 1:31:51Speaker 8: If it was any other movie, if it was Shia
- 1:31:53Speaker 8: LaBeouf as Luke Skywalker, he would have dug down and
- 1:31:57Speaker 8: found his heart and found his real hero's motivation. He
- 1:32:00Speaker 8: would have dug deep. You got the touch! You know,
- 1:32:03Speaker 8: he would have found that. And then he would have beat,
- 1:32:05Speaker 8: and then there would have been this rock anthem. Yeah,
- 1:32:07Speaker 8: he wins, and he bangs his, you know, all that crap.
- 1:32:10Speaker 8: But Luke gets his ass kicked. And You know, when
- 1:32:13Speaker 8: I was first seeing these things on the internet, complaining
- 1:32:16Speaker 8: that Rey is like a Mary Sue, she knows how
- 1:32:18Speaker 8: to do everything perfect, you know, blah, blah, blah. The
- 1:32:21Speaker 8: reason I didn't feel that way is because they purposely
- 1:32:24Speaker 8: had a scene in the movie. Remember in the Falcon
- 1:32:27Speaker 8: when they finally get away, like her and Finn, Finn's
- 1:32:30Speaker 8: firing the cannon, she's flying. They finally get away, they
- 1:32:33Speaker 8: blow up the last TIE fighter, you know, they... They
- 1:32:37Speaker 8: run and they hug and they're excited because they both
- 1:32:39Speaker 8: can't believe that they actually got away with it. Like,
- 1:32:42Speaker 8: she's not arrogant badass at all. It was a real,
- 1:32:46Speaker 8: I can't believe we actually did this. So I buy
- 1:32:49Speaker 8: it and I like her. Screw the internet.
- 1:32:51Speaker 11: She's a good improviser.
- 1:32:53Speaker 9: She's good at just thinking on her own. Yeah, you
- 1:32:55Speaker 9: just wing it because that's what she's had to.
- 1:32:56Speaker 10: Do her whole life. And there's lightsaber battle with Kylo Ren.
- 1:32:59Speaker 10: I mean, she's on the defensive side. for almost the
- 1:33:04Speaker 10: entire thing i mean she's she runs most of that
- 1:33:07Speaker 10: fight and then finally you know realistic.
- 1:33:09Speaker 9: Like you don't see that in most of these because
- 1:33:11Speaker 9: they're so super cool but like she's like.
- 1:33:13Speaker 10: Oh shit you know i'm sort of i mean if
- 1:33:16Speaker 10: you if you believe if you accept the fact that
- 1:33:18Speaker 10: the force really is this mystical thing you know she
- 1:33:21Speaker 10: doesn't need training per se it's sort of available to
- 1:33:25Speaker 10: anyone that can touch into it and so maybe it's
- 1:33:28Speaker 10: like hey you're better it you're better at this than
- 1:33:31Speaker 10: you think, so go a little on the offensive.
- 1:33:35Speaker 8: You know, what about the whole thing Yoda was going
- 1:33:38Speaker 8: on and on about if you don't have training, you'll
- 1:33:41Speaker 8: go to the dark side? Do you think that Rey
- 1:33:44Speaker 8: proves that wrong? Because after the prequels, I'm not as
- 1:33:47Speaker 8: on board with Yoda, with Yoda's theories.
- 1:33:49Speaker 9: That's another thing I had a little respect for.
- 1:33:52Speaker 10: I sort of think that it's sort of akin to
- 1:33:55Speaker 10: someone saying, you can't be a good mechanic if you've
- 1:33:58Speaker 10: never gone to mechanic school.
- 1:34:00Speaker 5: Oh, okay.
- 1:34:01Speaker 10: You know, so I think Yoda's sort of blinded too
- 1:34:05Speaker 10: by this idea of, well, we had an order and
- 1:34:07Speaker 10: we used to train them.
- 1:34:08Speaker 8: Because they're a superior caste.
- 1:34:11Speaker 10: Or just, you know, it's sort of like, you know,
- 1:34:16Speaker 10: it's like gun control. You know?
- 1:34:19Speaker 9: I like this already.
- 1:34:20Speaker 10: We've got to keep guns out of everyone's hands and
- 1:34:23Speaker 10: only in the hands of people who are trained and
- 1:34:24Speaker 10: licensed to use them because we've seen other people who
- 1:34:27Speaker 10: aren't in this group do something bad with them, whereas
- 1:34:31Speaker 10: there's a lot of people who don't do bad things
- 1:34:33Speaker 10: with them. So we have seen the badness, so we
- 1:34:37Speaker 10: regimented to where we're in control of everything. And I
- 1:34:41Speaker 10: sort of like the idea of the force just being
- 1:34:43Speaker 10: everyone can use it. A farmer can be strong in
- 1:34:46Speaker 10: the force and grows great crops because he's able to
- 1:34:49Speaker 10: tap into the force.
- 1:34:51Speaker 9: I mean, to me, I like that better. Again, that's
- 1:34:53Speaker 9: more like a New Hope version of how I took
- 1:34:56Speaker 9: the Force before Episode I came along and jacked it
- 1:34:59Speaker 9: all up.
- 1:35:00Speaker 10: Well, and even not so much if you believe, but
- 1:35:02Speaker 10: you may not know that it's called the Force, but
- 1:35:05Speaker 10: you just tap into it.
- 1:35:08Speaker 9: It is a mystical thing that is in the universe.
- 1:35:11Speaker 9: Whether you're using it or not, it's there.
- 1:35:13Speaker 8: So I never thought of that.
- 1:35:14Speaker 9: You're right.
- 1:35:15Speaker 8: For some reason, if you found out you had the Force,
- 1:35:17Speaker 8: suddenly you have to become a... sword-wielding monk. You could
- 1:35:22Speaker 8: just be a great gardener. What you call the force,
- 1:35:25Speaker 8: other people would call your green thumb. And you wouldn't know.
- 1:35:28Speaker 8: It's like, I make the best pizza in the world
- 1:35:31Speaker 8: because apparently I have the force.
- 1:35:32Speaker 4: Never knew.
- 1:35:34Speaker 8: I got this cool laser pizza cutter, though.
- 1:35:36Speaker 10: It's pretty awesome. Again, it's more of the idea of
- 1:35:41Speaker 10: the force in the first one. It's more inclusive. Everyone,
- 1:35:44Speaker 10: even though Han says, I don't believe in the force
- 1:35:48Speaker 10: because I believe in a blaster.
- 1:35:51Speaker 9: But it's still out there.
- 1:35:52Speaker 10: And it's not like you are in touch with the
- 1:35:55Speaker 10: Force and you aren't in touch with the Force. It's like, well,
- 1:35:58Speaker 10: you're more than you are, but you're in touch with
- 1:36:01Speaker 10: it too. It's not like it's an all or nothing deal.
- 1:36:03Speaker 10: I mean, you can have gradients of infusion with the
- 1:36:07Speaker 10: Force or whatnot.
- 1:36:08Speaker 9: It's still there. It's just, do you want to be
- 1:36:10Speaker 9: part of it or do you want to be one?
- 1:36:12Speaker 9: I don't care. I could care less about it.
- 1:36:13Speaker 8: But the prequels make it very clear that you either
- 1:36:16Speaker 8: have the infection or you don't.
- 1:36:18Speaker 10: Well, and you have a certain level of infection.
- 1:36:20Speaker 8: I much prefer that type of force.
- 1:36:23Speaker 9: And then you have to enter our school and learn
- 1:36:26Speaker 9: how to use it. And your parents have to pay tuition,
- 1:36:28Speaker 9: I'm sure. And I'm just, yeah, everything else about that
- 1:36:31Speaker 9: just kind of ruins the whole fun and coolness factor
- 1:36:34Speaker 9: of Jedis as a whole.
- 1:36:37Speaker 8: I feel like we're totally dominating. I want you two
- 1:36:39Speaker 8: kids to talk something.
- 1:36:40Speaker 6: I kept trying to, but you three are just like
- 1:36:43Speaker 6: this triad.
- 1:36:44Speaker 9: I told you if Ben and I get in a room,
- 1:36:48Speaker 9: this is going to happen. So you go to 10.
- 1:36:50Speaker 10: Oh, man.
- 1:36:51Speaker 11: Well, I was thinking about like the alien lady. Yes, there.
- 1:36:57Speaker 11: Very nice. And that's kind of how she was explaining it.
- 1:37:00Speaker 6: She didn't use any kind of infection nonsense, none of that.
- 1:37:03Speaker 6: She was just like, she kind of reintroduced it as,
- 1:37:06Speaker 6: It's like, I'm talking about the force. It's just this
- 1:37:09Speaker 6: energy that surrounds everybody.
- 1:37:11Speaker 11: And then she was just talking about it in that
- 1:37:13Speaker 11: mystical way.
- 1:37:14Speaker 10: And she's not a Jedi. She's not trained, but she
- 1:37:17Speaker 10: obviously has some attachment or connection to it.
- 1:37:20Speaker 9: And she's just very wise. So again, it's like something
- 1:37:23Speaker 9: mystical and old that she's been around a long time.
- 1:37:26Speaker 9: She understands this kind of thing.
- 1:37:28Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 1:37:29Speaker 9: Well, I also feel like it tied that in pretty
- 1:37:31Speaker 9: well with the the lightsaber because, again, there's a weird
- 1:37:34Speaker 9: gray area of, how the hell did you get this? Again,
- 1:37:37Speaker 9: I'm waiting for some, you know, scrapyard to be like, yeah,
- 1:37:39Speaker 9: I saw this fall out of this floating city and
- 1:37:42Speaker 9: picked it up and... Had this hand on it. Took
- 1:37:46Speaker 9: me an hour to pry that hand off of it,
- 1:37:48Speaker 9: but anyway.
- 1:37:49Speaker 6: I thought her whole flashback thing was cool.
- 1:37:51Speaker 11: Like, she touches it and I was like, whoa!
- 1:37:54Speaker 9: That's what I was going to say. That makes it
- 1:37:56Speaker 9: more of a mystical thing that's like part of the
- 1:37:58Speaker 9: universe and part of the fact that like maybe the
- 1:38:01Speaker 9: force chooses you if we're doing a weird Harry Potter
- 1:38:05Speaker 9: tie and maybe it picked you to be like well
- 1:38:08Speaker 9: I think you're the one that's going to be using
- 1:38:11Speaker 9: this lightsaber you know it's like it chooses you because
- 1:38:14Speaker 9: there's some sort of weird connection that maybe it's the
- 1:38:17Speaker 9: force maybe it's your family maybe whatever but like I
- 1:38:20Speaker 9: think that was really cool too that it does sort
- 1:38:22Speaker 9: of reinforce more of that weird, mystical.
- 1:38:25Speaker 11: Universal thing. And this collective memory thing.
- 1:38:27Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:38:27Speaker 6: Like this kind of more ethereal nature.
- 1:38:30Speaker 4: Of the Force.
- 1:38:31Speaker 9: It all happened within the Force.
- 1:38:32Speaker 8: Are we saying that Rey is Luke's kid?
- 1:38:35Speaker 9: That's certainly out there. I've already... Again, once I was done,
- 1:38:39Speaker 9: I went to the internet. That theory is already posed.
- 1:38:41Speaker 11: I was like, Rey Skywalker. I like that name. I
- 1:38:43Speaker 11: was like, I like the sound of that.
- 1:38:46Speaker 10: I hope she's not.
- 1:38:48Speaker 11: That's fine. I.
- 1:38:49Speaker 10: Mainly because is Star Wars always going to be about Skywalker?
- 1:38:55Speaker 10: Is it always going to be about the Skywalker solo descendants?
- 1:38:58Speaker 9: Again, this 789 might be.
- 1:39:01Speaker 10: So I like the idea of, no, she's just talented
- 1:39:08Speaker 10: in this stuff. She doesn't have to be descended from
- 1:39:10Speaker 10: the right person. She's just awesome.
- 1:39:13Speaker 9: I'd be okay with that too. If we're going to
- 1:39:16Speaker 9: raise that kind of question... I have a lot of
- 1:39:19Speaker 9: great things to say about episode seven. My few things
- 1:39:23Speaker 9: that I have issues with, really another Death Star kind
- 1:39:26Speaker 9: of thing. Do we have to end every one of these?
- 1:39:28Speaker 7: But it was way bigger.
- 1:39:29Speaker 1: It was bigger.
- 1:39:30Speaker 9: But the last one was bigger, too. The Jedi version
- 1:39:33Speaker 9: was like four times bigger than the first one, but
- 1:39:35Speaker 9: nobody cares about that.
- 1:39:37Speaker 10: The minute I saw the movie poster, and that was
- 1:39:40Speaker 10: featured front and center, I'm like.
- 1:39:42Speaker 9: Damn it.
- 1:39:43Speaker 10: I'm like, damn you, J.J. Abrams, can you not steal...
- 1:39:46Speaker 10: A previous story and just rehash it?
- 1:39:48Speaker 9: I mean, that's the, I mean, that's, I started giving
- 1:39:51Speaker 9: Luke as hell years ago because I was like, you
- 1:39:54Speaker 9: only made three movies in that series and by the
- 1:39:57Speaker 9: third one, you're ripping yourself off already? Like, you couldn't
- 1:40:00Speaker 9: come up with another way to end the third movie? Like,
- 1:40:02Speaker 9: Empire doesn't have anything to do with that. Like, Empire's
- 1:40:04Speaker 9: the only one that's kind of original and stands on
- 1:40:06Speaker 9: its own, even though it doesn't because it's just a continuation.
- 1:40:09Speaker 9: But like, as a story, it is wholly different than
- 1:40:13Speaker 9: episode four. six comes around and so much of it
- 1:40:17Speaker 9: is just rehashed things that he already had for four
- 1:40:20Speaker 9: that he didn't use or continuation of this or a
- 1:40:23Speaker 9: redone version of what was in this one. And I'm
- 1:40:25Speaker 9: like that I always kind of gave Lucas hell for anyway.
- 1:40:28Speaker 9: I'm like, you really had so little original stuff in Jedi. Granted,
- 1:40:32Speaker 9: there's some cool stuff there, but it, you can already
- 1:40:35Speaker 9: see him wearing thin at that point a long time ago.
- 1:40:39Speaker 9: Whereas like, I think, coming into this, we had so
- 1:40:42Speaker 9: many new ideas. I was like, let's just do something else.
- 1:40:44Speaker 9: Let's just not even worry about that.
- 1:40:45Speaker 8: You know what though? They had a Death or Star.
- 1:40:48Speaker 8: They had a Trench Run. They had a Trash Compactor reference.
- 1:40:52Speaker 8: They had a breaking a girl out of the, or trying,
- 1:40:56Speaker 8: going there to break the girl out of prison. They
- 1:40:58Speaker 8: had a, Oh, my God, our planet's going to get
- 1:41:01Speaker 8: blown up by the Death-er star. I didn't care. I
- 1:41:04Speaker 8: didn't care. It was done so well.
- 1:41:06Speaker 1: The Death-est star.
- 1:41:07Speaker 10: Because we have the Death-est star, the Death-er star, and
- 1:41:09Speaker 10: the Death-est star.
- 1:41:10Speaker 11: The Death-est star.
- 1:41:11Speaker 10: The Death-iest star.
- 1:41:12Speaker 9: I like the touches of all the other stuff. I
- 1:41:14Speaker 9: like the... Again, if I had gone through a crazy
- 1:41:18Speaker 9: trash compactor adventure, I'd reference it years later. I don't
- 1:41:21Speaker 9: feel like those are cheesy. I'm like, this is just history.
- 1:41:24Speaker 9: This is his life. He's allowed to reference... People always, again,
- 1:41:27Speaker 9: in the indie story, when he jokes about the Ark
- 1:41:31Speaker 9: of the Covenant, I'm like, no, really, a couple years ago,
- 1:41:33Speaker 9: he just lived through that. It's okay for him to
- 1:41:35Speaker 9: make a reference about it. So I'm like, I feel
- 1:41:37Speaker 9: the same thing with the Han Solo. I'm like, I'm
- 1:41:39Speaker 9: fine with them making jokes about stuff that happened, because
- 1:41:42Speaker 9: it's all part of their life. The thing I thought, again,
- 1:41:45Speaker 9: even if you have to have a death-er-ist, most death-est,
- 1:41:48Speaker 9: most done death-est star, the most death-est star there ever was,
- 1:41:55Speaker 9: my problem with the way that it's handled in this,
- 1:41:57Speaker 9: this is probably one of the weak points. I don't
- 1:42:00Speaker 9: feel like it's ever a threat. I kind of forgot
- 1:42:02Speaker 9: it was a thing until like the dudes flying the
- 1:42:05Speaker 9: black X wing. And I'm like, Oh yeah, they have
- 1:42:06Speaker 9: to go do something. Don't they? Like, it's like in
- 1:42:09Speaker 9: the first one, like it was such a big deal
- 1:42:12Speaker 9: like that. It's the last, again, the weird structure of
- 1:42:15Speaker 9: episode four is not like any other movie ever. And
- 1:42:18Speaker 9: the fact that they just break away in that last
- 1:42:20Speaker 9: 20 minutes or so is its own separate thing. And
- 1:42:24Speaker 9: so much weight is given to that. Would you like
- 1:42:29Speaker 9: to escape?
- 1:42:29Speaker 1: Yes.
- 1:42:30Speaker 9: Would you give people your send-off?
- 1:42:32Speaker 8: We talked over you the whole time.
- 1:42:33Speaker 9: I'm so sorry.
- 1:42:34Speaker 11: We were real mad about it.
- 1:42:35Speaker 8: Can you do closing thoughts?
- 1:42:37Speaker 9: Yeah, what were your favorite parts of episode seven? I'm
- 1:42:40Speaker 9: not going to talk for it all.
- 1:42:42Speaker 8: Talk as long as you want here.
- 1:42:44Speaker 9: Give people a send-off, at least, on your thoughts on
- 1:42:46Speaker 9: episode seven.
- 1:42:47Speaker 6: I'm going to do one callback to a comment that
- 1:42:50Speaker 6: I wanted to make that I couldn't make. One of
- 1:42:52Speaker 6: the reasons that the stormtroopers, they scared me too, was
- 1:42:56Speaker 6: because all of them moved in the exact same way
- 1:42:59Speaker 6: except for Finn. Finn, you could tell it was Finn
- 1:43:01Speaker 6: just because he moved in a human fashion and none
- 1:43:05Speaker 6: of the rest of them did.
- 1:43:06Speaker 11: They all moved.
- 1:43:06Speaker 6: Like, it wasn't like they were, like, Nazis or anything,
- 1:43:09Speaker 6: but they moved so clinically that it made me uncomfortable.
- 1:43:14Speaker 11: So there's that.
- 1:43:16Speaker 7: Cool.
- 1:43:16Speaker 6: But I loved episode seven. All of the characters, while, like,
- 1:43:21Speaker 6: They are lovable and positive and good. They are also
- 1:43:24Speaker 6: like not underdeveloped and like surface level good. They're like
- 1:43:29Speaker 6: good with oomph.
- 1:43:30Speaker 9: And reality to them.
- 1:43:32Speaker 16: Yeah.
- 1:43:32Speaker 9: They feel like real people.
- 1:43:34Speaker 11: They're just real good people.
- 1:43:36Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 1:43:37Speaker 8: Is there anything that you thought didn't work?
- 1:43:39Speaker 11: Didn't work. Gee golly willikers. Not that I can think
- 1:43:46Speaker 11: of right now.
- 1:43:48Speaker 9: I have a follow up question from your opening statement.
- 1:43:51Speaker 4: Okay.
- 1:43:51Speaker 9: Okay. Why did you always pick Jedi to go to
- 1:43:53Speaker 9: sleep to?
- 1:43:54Speaker 11: I don't know. That was my favorite when I.
- 1:43:57Speaker 14: Was a kid.
- 1:43:57Speaker 4: Okay.
- 1:43:58Speaker 9: I was wondering, because a lot of kids, it kind
- 1:44:00Speaker 9: of depends on when you catch it. Sometimes kids just
- 1:44:02Speaker 9: love the Ewoks and go for Jedi. So I just
- 1:44:05Speaker 9: wondered what drew you to Jedi.
- 1:44:07Speaker 11: Yeah, I mean, that probably had something to do with it.
- 1:44:09Speaker 4: Probably Ewoks.
- 1:44:10Speaker 9: I'm not an Ewok hater.
- 1:44:11Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:44:12Speaker 9: It's the weakest part of that movie, but they're okay. Yeah,
- 1:44:16Speaker 9: they're all right. They are what they are. They're a
- 1:44:18Speaker 9: ripped off idea from episode four.
- 1:44:20Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:44:23Speaker 9: What was your thoughts?
- 1:44:26Speaker 13: I mean, great movie.
- 1:44:27Speaker 12: One thing I enjoyed, though, I just thought of it,
- 1:44:30Speaker 12: is that Han's, his weapons, his firearm techniques are pretty
- 1:44:39Speaker 12: much the same. He does a lunge, one hand is out.
- 1:44:44Speaker 12: It's very consistent. I'm surprised he can still do that.
- 1:44:46Speaker 9: Continuity.
- 1:44:48Speaker 11: He's got carpal tunnel over the ears.
- 1:44:49Speaker 8: Oh, yeah.
- 1:44:50Speaker 12: You just pop a hip, like, oh, having to come
- 1:44:52Speaker 12: back up. Yeah, I thought that was great. Yeah, sure,
- 1:44:57Speaker 12: the Deathist star, sure.
- 1:44:59Speaker 8: You know.
- 1:44:59Speaker 6: I do think that Han's, like, his dialogue is just
- 1:45:04Speaker 6: similar to the way it was in the original movies,
- 1:45:06Speaker 6: and that kind of took me out of it a
- 1:45:08Speaker 6: little bit, because he's the only one that's being a cheeseball.
- 1:45:10Speaker 11: Like, everyone else isn't being a cheeseball, because they're.
- 1:45:12Speaker 9: Like, more real. But he got pretty cheesy.
- 1:45:14Speaker 10: Again, he was.
- 1:45:16Speaker 9: It got a little, again, by the time you get
- 1:45:17Speaker 9: to Jedi, he gets even cheesier.
- 1:45:19Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:45:20Speaker 11: And it's like, I know that's kind of just like
- 1:45:22Speaker 11: Harrison Ford in everything he does.
- 1:45:24Speaker 6: He's just a cheese ball. And it didn't take me
- 1:45:27Speaker 6: out of the movie. I still loved it, but I
- 1:45:29Speaker 6: was like, your dialogue does not match the dialogue of
- 1:45:33Speaker 6: everyone around you, kind of, to me.
- 1:45:35Speaker 9: But sometimes it worked.
- 1:45:36Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:45:37Speaker 9: Like again, there were such.
- 1:45:37Speaker 6: Moments that I'm like, didn't work altogether, but I was like,
- 1:45:41Speaker 6: you're the one making the, he seems like the poop joke,
- 1:45:44Speaker 6: not the poop joke.
- 1:45:45Speaker 9: But like he's, he's almost like very in a line
- 1:45:48Speaker 9: that he had two movies ago. You know, it's like,
- 1:45:50Speaker 9: he doesn't say it exactly, but he says almost the
- 1:45:54Speaker 9: same thing he said in 1980. You know, it's like,
- 1:45:57Speaker 9: I will give you, there were a few moments I went,
- 1:45:59Speaker 9: it's almost too close. You know, you should have rewritten
- 1:46:01Speaker 9: that a little bit. So it didn't mirror so much
- 1:46:04Speaker 9: something he said, Again, for him it's been 30 years.
- 1:46:07Speaker 9: Maybe he says that kind of thing all the time.
- 1:46:09Speaker 9: But for us, we've only had four movies that we're counting.
- 1:46:12Speaker 9: Because none of us like the other. Four movies that
- 1:46:14Speaker 9: he's involved in. And like, you're already kind of, again,
- 1:46:17Speaker 9: you're already taking from your own thing. I feel like
- 1:46:20Speaker 9: they should always move to kind of vary it up
- 1:46:22Speaker 9: and not just rip off their own ideas. Even if
- 1:46:26Speaker 9: it was Lucas's.
- 1:46:26Speaker 6: So that's the only thing I can think of right
- 1:46:28Speaker 6: now that I was like, that's not quite what I
- 1:46:30Speaker 6: would want.
- 1:46:31Speaker 1: There's a little of that.
- 1:46:33Speaker 9: How about you?
- 1:46:34Speaker 4: Uh.
- 1:46:35Speaker 13: I mean, I really have nothing.
- 1:46:37Speaker 2: Nothing else.
- 1:46:37Speaker 11: He's got nothing.
- 1:46:38Speaker 9: It's awesome.
- 1:46:39Speaker 8: I am empty.
- 1:46:44Speaker 9: I did, before you go, one of the ones I
- 1:46:46Speaker 9: was going to get to was marketing. Just to veer off.
- 1:46:51Speaker 9: Do you, and before the girl of the bunch leaves.
- 1:46:54Speaker 9: Do you notice something? Because one of the people I
- 1:46:59Speaker 9: work with was bitching about the marketing because doesn't really
- 1:47:02Speaker 9: pay attention to TV, doesn't really care about watching ads,
- 1:47:07Speaker 9: looking at ads in magazines, but immediately saw... Like an
- 1:47:12Speaker 9: ad for... Let me at least get the ones right here.
- 1:47:16Speaker 9: I think CoverGirl has a very specific line of makeup
- 1:47:21Speaker 9: that is officially licensed Star Wars. Limited edition, mind you.
- 1:47:25Speaker 9: Collect them all. CoverGirlMakeup.com I don't know. And there's also
- 1:47:31Speaker 9: the K Jewelry has a line, not bad costume stuff
- 1:47:36Speaker 9: for kids. It's real jewelry for women to wear that
- 1:47:40Speaker 9: have Star Wars logos and lightsabers and shit on them.
- 1:47:44Speaker 9: So I'm like, I don't know. What do you, Yoda's
- 1:47:47Speaker 9: and shit on them? That was for you, Ben. So
- 1:47:51Speaker 9: I was like, I don't know. What do you think
- 1:47:52Speaker 9: about the marketing and the, specifically this time around, marketing
- 1:47:56Speaker 9: to women?
- 1:47:57Speaker 6: Um well i didn't see pretty much anything but the
- 1:48:00Speaker 6: trailer like leading up to the movie i didn't i
- 1:48:03Speaker 6: don't have tv i don't like watch a ton of
- 1:48:05Speaker 6: ads but like i watched the trailer yeah right um
- 1:48:11Speaker 6: but i mean if if a bunch of companies are
- 1:48:14Speaker 6: trying to it's like that reflects that they know that
- 1:48:17Speaker 6: women watch star wars yeah making a makeup line making
- 1:48:21Speaker 6: a jewelry line it's like they know that women watch
- 1:48:24Speaker 6: star wars and they're trying to cash in on it
- 1:48:26Speaker 6: like that's just companies doing their capitalism thing that.
- 1:48:28Speaker 9: Was my thing like i didn't really have a problem
- 1:48:31Speaker 9: i'm like that's where we are in this world. That's
- 1:48:34Speaker 9: how things get made. That's how the deals happen. And
- 1:48:37Speaker 9: it's Star Wars.
- 1:48:39Speaker 6: It's not an issue with the movie or their marketing
- 1:48:42Speaker 6: of their movie.
- 1:48:42Speaker 9: It's just marketing.
- 1:48:43Speaker 6: It's like making pink razors and charging $ 2 more for them.
- 1:48:46Speaker 6: It's just like, that's always going to be the case.
- 1:48:49Speaker 6: Women are just going to get charged shit for whatever
- 1:48:52Speaker 6: or get sold stuff.
- 1:48:54Speaker 11: Oh my God. You almost lost a nice mic stand there.
- 1:48:58Speaker 9: But at the same time, I feel like it's almost
- 1:49:00Speaker 9: like a cool direction. I'm like, yes, they're, they're totally
- 1:49:05Speaker 9: playing you and you're getting roped in, but at least
- 1:49:08Speaker 9: they're recognizing you as a consumer, as a.
- 1:49:11Speaker 6: Target stores, like doing the whole, like, we're not going
- 1:49:13Speaker 6: to do boys and girls stuff.
- 1:49:14Speaker 11: So there's just going to be a star Wars section
- 1:49:16Speaker 11: that both boys and girls can go to. And that's fabulous.
- 1:49:19Speaker 9: I think that's cool because we have so many girls
- 1:49:22Speaker 9: that are going to be coming up and maybe when
- 1:49:24Speaker 9: they get out of the plane with toys age, Maybe
- 1:49:27Speaker 9: they want to get makeup so they have perfect skin
- 1:49:29Speaker 9: like Rey.
- 1:49:29Speaker 11: Perfect skin like Rey.
- 1:49:30Speaker 9: Perfect skin.
- 1:49:31Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:49:32Speaker 9: Thank you, cover girl, for my perfect freaking skin.
- 1:49:35Speaker 16: Yeah.
- 1:49:35Speaker 11: But it's not like making like a pink football helmet.
- 1:49:39Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 1:49:39Speaker 6: Or like girls can only use the pink lightsaber. I mean,
- 1:49:42Speaker 6: if it's just like a makeup line that they're like
- 1:49:44Speaker 6: look like Rey, I guess.
- 1:49:46Speaker 11: Like I don't know what angle they're taking there.
- 1:49:49Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:49:50Speaker 6: But I mean, I think that's more just like moving
- 1:49:52Speaker 6: like a reflection of the audience.
- 1:49:54Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 1:49:55Speaker 9: Okay. I mean, that was my take. I don't, I mean,
- 1:49:58Speaker 9: you can buy a can of soup that looks like
- 1:49:59Speaker 9: R2-D2 right now.
- 1:50:00Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:50:01Speaker 9: I'm okay with that. I might go buy one.
- 1:50:03Speaker 11: That doesn't bother me. I mean, I'm just like, women, don't,
- 1:50:05Speaker 11: don't buy that shit. What are you doing?
- 1:50:08Speaker 9: Again, I'm okay. I probably won't go out and get
- 1:50:12Speaker 9: a Vangley bracelet, but I mean, the fact that they
- 1:50:14Speaker 9: have it, and again, I think this is just a
- 1:50:18Speaker 9: sign of the world we're in now. There is no
- 1:50:22Speaker 9: way that 20, 30 years ago, that kind of stuff
- 1:50:25Speaker 9: could have happened.
- 1:50:25Speaker 11: Absolutely not.
- 1:50:26Speaker 9: But in this new geek-friendly world, not only is it
- 1:50:29Speaker 9: super mass marketing, is the number one television show about
- 1:50:32Speaker 9: a bunch of geeks, and you'll notice that TV show
- 1:50:35Speaker 9: that I don't have to name, it started off as
- 1:50:38Speaker 9: a bunch of guy geeks. When it started to get popular,
- 1:50:41Speaker 9: they all got girlfriends. And now there's equally as many
- 1:50:45Speaker 9: geeky women on the show making the references, bringing in
- 1:50:49Speaker 9: female viewers as there are the guys. And that's why
- 1:50:51Speaker 9: it's the number one show on television now. So I'm like, Oh,
- 1:50:55Speaker 9: I hate it. But I'm like, I've watched it and
- 1:50:56Speaker 9: I'm like, I can hate it, but I can't knock
- 1:50:59Speaker 9: it because damn, they're smart. They know just how to
- 1:51:03Speaker 9: market everything. They know just what are like, again, they
- 1:51:06Speaker 9: brought in the not geeky girl and then they added
- 1:51:09Speaker 9: some other girls for her to say, again, it brought
- 1:51:11Speaker 9: in a whole female viewership that I'm like, damn, they're
- 1:51:14Speaker 9: smart because they were already like, we're already getting tons
- 1:51:17Speaker 9: of geek girls in the world now that we didn't
- 1:51:19Speaker 9: have 30 years ago that get the references that sometimes
- 1:51:22Speaker 9: they're doing right. But on top of that, now that
- 1:51:25Speaker 9: we've got a whole new line of Marketing that goes
- 1:51:29Speaker 9: specifically towards, so again, I think it's a different world
- 1:51:32Speaker 9: that we're in now that is, you're going to have that.
- 1:51:35Speaker 9: You're going to have 50% of the people, or more,
- 1:51:38Speaker 9: if you believe statistics, are going to be drawn to
- 1:51:41Speaker 9: this item. Why the hell don't they get marketing too? Like,
- 1:51:44Speaker 9: I don't care.
- 1:51:45Speaker 11: They're just losing money if they're not.
- 1:51:46Speaker 9: Yeah, it's stupid not to. You're already selling on to,
- 1:51:50Speaker 9: I mean, there's a coffee mate that has Boba Fett
- 1:51:52Speaker 9: on it right now. You can go get coffee mate
- 1:51:55Speaker 9: and pour it in there and it looks like Boba Fett.
- 1:51:58Speaker 9: Do I care?
- 1:51:58Speaker 8: No.
- 1:51:59Speaker 9: Did it get the movie made? I'm fine with that.
- 1:52:02Speaker 9: They made a deal. They made a hell of a
- 1:52:03Speaker 9: lot of money and George doesn't even get any of
- 1:52:06Speaker 9: it now.
- 1:52:06Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 1:52:07Speaker 6: I think it'd be worse if they just didn't have
- 1:52:09Speaker 6: a jewelry line or a mega. It's like worse if
- 1:52:11Speaker 6: it's just ignored.
- 1:52:12Speaker 14: All you.
- 1:52:13Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:52:13Speaker 9: It's only for little kids. Again, it's just sort of
- 1:52:16Speaker 9: shoving that geek thing down into it's only for kids.
- 1:52:19Speaker 9: It's only for nerdy boys. I'm like, I'm okay with
- 1:52:21Speaker 9: the fact that like if it wants to be super
- 1:52:23Speaker 9: mainstream and And like somebody buys fancy jewelry and wears
- 1:52:27Speaker 9: it out on their date for the evening. I'm like,
- 1:52:29Speaker 9: that's cool. I'm okay with that. You need to escape.
- 1:52:33Speaker 9: I will let you two get out of here.
- 1:52:34Speaker 7: Okay.
- 1:52:36Speaker 11: Thank you.
- 1:52:36Speaker 9: Say goodbye. Thank you for being part of this festive activity.
- 1:52:49Speaker 8: I was just apologizing.
- 1:52:50Speaker 9: You wish you could take these cookies. You can have
- 1:52:53Speaker 9: a few if you want.
- 1:52:53Speaker 8: They were the voice of youth and I talked over
- 1:52:55Speaker 8: them the whole time.
- 1:52:58Speaker 7: That's what old men do.
- 1:53:00Speaker 10: May the force be with you all.
- 1:53:02Speaker 8: As long as you're infected.
- 1:53:03Speaker 13: May the force.
- 1:53:04Speaker 9: Be with you.
- 1:53:06Speaker 2: Bye.
- 1:53:08Speaker 9: Yes, we have chased away the most normal people of
- 1:53:11Speaker 9: the bunch. They still have hope and bright futures. Anyway,
- 1:53:16Speaker 9: don't think that's the end of the conversation. we're only
- 1:53:19Speaker 9: halfway there. And now that we're left with just old-school
- 1:53:21Speaker 9: Star Wars fans, we're taking it up not one, but
- 1:53:24Speaker 9: several notches.
- 1:53:26Speaker 8: So we will.
- 1:53:26Speaker 9: Continue this hardcore Star Wars conversation next episode. In the meantime,
- 1:53:31Speaker 9: if you know any other Star Wars fans out there,
- 1:53:34Speaker 9: and since the movie made a fortune opening weekend, I'm
- 1:53:37Speaker 9: pretty sure you know more than a few people who
- 1:53:38Speaker 9: are into it, please pass along the link to this show.
- 1:53:42Speaker 9: It would be greatly appreciated by us, and hopefully your
- 1:53:44Speaker 9: friends will have fun listening as well. And on the
- 1:53:47Speaker 9: way out here, we will return with a lot of
- 1:53:49Speaker 9: Episode 7 talk, so in the meantime, we'll leave you
- 1:53:52Speaker 9: with a little recap of what's come before. Otherwise, that
- 1:53:55Speaker 9: about does it. We will return next time, same geek feed.
- 1:53:58Speaker 15: Thanks for listening.
- 1:53:59Speaker 5: Star Wars has returned to resume its storyline. Between the
- 1:54:04Speaker 5: last film and now, well, it's been a long, long time.
- 1:54:09Speaker 5: If you've forgotten anything, we'll remind you now in a
- 1:54:14Speaker 5: very detailed recap of how It all went down. Escape
- 1:54:22Speaker 5: pod to Tatooine. Jawa sentient machines. Young Skywalker's sunset scene.
- 1:54:27Speaker 5: R2 ants and people scream.
- 1:54:29Speaker 7: Obi-Wan in long dark robes. Must repair C-3PO. Obi-Wan, you're
- 1:54:33Speaker 7: my only hope. Uncle Owen and.
- 1:54:35Speaker 10: Oh, nope.
- 1:54:36Speaker 7: Mos Eisley, lots of weirdos.
- 1:54:38Speaker 9: Not the droids as far as we know.
- 1:54:40Speaker 7: Han shoots first.
- 1:54:40Speaker 9: Bye-bye, Greedo. Chewie, jump up to light speed, go!
- 1:54:43Speaker 5: Alderaan to smithereens, that's no moon.
- 1:54:46Speaker 7: Tractor beam, dress up.
- 1:54:47Speaker 5: As the other team to save the captured future queen.
- 1:54:50Speaker 5: Dodging blasters, trash compactor, cord off between dueling actors.
- 1:54:54Speaker 9: Wayward student slays his.
- 1:54:55Speaker 7: Master, must escape but must go faster.
- 1:54:57Speaker 5: TIE fighters hop pursuit, don't get cocky, kid, just shoot.
- 1:55:01Speaker 7: Yavin 4, prep the troops, they'll force me with you, Luke.
- 1:55:04Speaker 19: Plus red 1036 at all Torpedoes miss, computers fall Use

- 1:55:15Speaker 16: For their royal duty Han and Luke, but it's not
- 1:55:18Speaker 16: chewy Star Wars, Star Wars Misses everything that happens here
- 1:55:26Speaker 16: Star Wars, Star Wars.
- 1:55:33Speaker 7: Ice planet, Wampa Cave. Obi-Wan beyond the grave.
- 1:55:36Speaker 5: Solo in the blizzard brave. Tauntaun guts, Lucas A. Back
- 1:55:40Speaker 5: to base of frozen water.
- 1:55:41Speaker 17: Nerf herder.
- 1:55:42Speaker 7: Kiss that's awkward. Star destroyers. Giant walkers. Lots and lots
- 1:55:46Speaker 7: of rebels slaughtered. Asteroids, take a breather. Our enormous phallic creature.
- 1:55:50Speaker 9: Today come on, Luke.
- 1:55:51Speaker 7: Where you'll meet your ancient muffin Jedi teacher. Physical and
- 1:55:55Speaker 7: mental training.
- 1:55:55Speaker 5: Vader vision, Yoda's phrasing.
- 1:55:57Speaker 7: Do or do not. X-wing racing.
- 1:55:59Speaker 9: Whoop, gotta go.
- 1:56:00Speaker 7: Friends need saving. Cloud city, where he at? Once more,
- 1:56:03Speaker 7: 3PO' s a mess.
- 1:56:04Speaker 5: Darth teams up with Boba Fett as the world's worst
- 1:56:07Speaker 5: dinner guest.
- 1:56:08Speaker 7: Luke is on his way, although Carbonite will pour Han
- 1:56:11Speaker 7: Solo Walter deal. Damn it, Lando.
- 1:56:13Speaker 8: Awesome kiss.
- 1:56:14Speaker 11: I love you.
- 1:56:15Speaker 14: I know.
- 1:56:18Speaker 7: Luke and Vader, this is it. Epic battle trading hits.
- 1:56:22Speaker 7: Sabers clash, pop and fizz. Nothing is as cool as this.
- 1:56:25Speaker 7: Vader cuts him, not the rest. High above an endless pit.
- 1:56:29Speaker 7: Dark side pitches, Luke resists.
- 1:56:31Speaker 8: I am your father.
- 1:56:32Speaker 6: Holy shit!
- 1:56:33Speaker 7: Star Wars, Star Wars.
- 1:56:37Speaker 17: This is everything that happens in Star Wars, Star Wars.
- 1:56:47Speaker 5: Jabba's palace, next vendetta Chewie captured, plan develops Leia's bounty hunter,
- 1:56:51Speaker 5: get up Unfreeze Han, but it's a setup Luke shows
- 1:56:54Speaker 5: up in Tatooine Leia's super hot bikini Rank or fight,
- 1:56:58Speaker 5: that bikini Sarlacc pit, that bikini Walk the plank, but
- 1:57:02Speaker 5: the plan is set Green lightsaber, catch, no sweat Jabba
- 1:57:05Speaker 5: grossly choked to death. The same is true for Boba Fett.
- 1:57:08Speaker 5: Dagobah Luke retreats. Master Yoda dies in peace. Kenobi paints
- 1:57:12Speaker 5: a family tree. Remember that one kissing scene? Death Star
- 1:57:15Speaker 5: almost good to go.
- 1:57:17Speaker 9: The Emperor now joins the show.
- 1:57:18Speaker 7: Endor is more frightening though.
- 1:57:20Speaker 9: With teddy bears, with bows and arrows.
- 1:57:22Speaker 7: Luke gets caught, confronts his dad. Come with me, you're
- 1:57:25Speaker 7: not all bad.
- 1:57:25Speaker 5: Rebels move in to attack the Death Star, but whoops,
- 1:57:28Speaker 5: it's our turn. One more saber fights a given Vader's
- 1:57:31Speaker 5: hand cut symbolism Lightning fingers indecision Vader toss and all's
- 1:57:35Speaker 5: forgiven Bonding quick before it blows Remove a helmet, that's
- 1:57:39Speaker 5: gross Endor dancing happy ghosts And that is how the
- 1:57:42Speaker 5: story goes Star Wars, Star.
- 1:57:47Speaker 17: Wars That was everything that happened in Star Wars, Star
- 1:57:54Speaker 17: Wars There were only three installments of Star Wars, Star Wars.
- 1:58:02Speaker 7: Don't look any further into it. Star Wars. Star Wars.
- 1:58:09Speaker 14: Star Wars.
- 1:58:14Speaker 3: If you see only one movie this summer, see Star Wars.
- 1:58:18Speaker 7: But if you see two movies, see Movie Meltdown.
- 1:58:22Speaker 1: This episode is a production of Movie Meltdown. Produced and
