- 0:11Speaker 1: Just to turn the pages over. We write what we
- 0:20Speaker 1: want to write.
- 0:20Speaker 2: I don't think I sounded like John Farnham actually singing it.
- 0:24Speaker 2: Like current John Farnham.
- 0:27Speaker 1: That's good.
- 0:28Speaker 3: We're all someone's daughters.
- 0:34Speaker 2: We're on someone's side.
- 0:36Speaker 1: How long can we look at each other? Not bad.
- 0:42Speaker 1: Got the barrel of a gun. Your voice trying to
- 0:49Speaker 1: understand it.
- 0:50Speaker 2: We were about to move on, but you're on.
- 0:53Speaker 3: All right, let's talk about the Kangaroos team. 23 players named.
- 0:57Speaker 3: Isaiah Yeo will be the captain. There's a few debutants.
- 1:01Speaker 2: Isaiah Yeo.
- 1:03Speaker 3: Yeo. So I'll go down alphabetically. Bradden and Best, who's
- 1:06Speaker 3: the debutant?
- 1:07Speaker 2: That's usually how they name it. Yeah, it's named in alphabetical. Yeah,
- 1:10Speaker 2: that's a well-deserved. There's no A's, eh?
- 1:11Speaker 1: No A's?
- 1:12Speaker 2: No, no. A, A, A. A, A, A.
- 1:18Speaker 3: So, yeah, Jack Bostock from the Dolphins gets his first. Okay.
- 1:21Speaker 1: There's none. One of the winners.
- 1:24Speaker 3: Yeah, Blake Braley for the Sharks.
- 1:26Speaker 2: Yeah, he's been playing really well. Yeah, Braley was good.
- 1:28Speaker 3: Do you reckon Robson, Reece Robson for the Roosters, he
- 1:32Speaker 3: did not get named? And I thought he probably had
- 1:34Speaker 3: claims to it. I mean, he got his team to
- 1:36Speaker 3: the granny.
- 1:37Speaker 1: Yeah, I thought he'd been all right actually the.
- 1:40Speaker 2: Last few weeks.
- 1:41Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:43Speaker 1: Braley, if I'm honest, I thought he's had a cracking year.
- 1:47Speaker 1: And could be going for that leadership role there. Because
- 1:53Speaker 1: I think he does lead his team around the park
- 1:56Speaker 1: really well, is what I mean. They've got a hooker
- 1:59Speaker 1: there where he's going to stick to the game plan
- 2:03Speaker 1: and make great decisions out there. And I think he's
- 2:05Speaker 1: done that all year.
- 2:06Speaker 3: Only three Broncos made the cut. One of them is
- 2:09Speaker 3: Paddy Carrigan.
- 2:10Speaker 1: Are you going in alphabetical? Yeah. C. C for Carrigan.
- 2:14Speaker 1: I'm just saying, he started saying Broncos, then I thought
- 2:16Speaker 1: he was going to name the Broncos.
- 2:17Speaker 2: No, I just looked down.
- 2:17Speaker 3: I had to look down the list. But Reuben Cotter.
- 2:20Speaker 1: Yep.
- 2:20Speaker 2: Reuben.
- 2:21Speaker 3: He's a cowboy. He's Dearden as well. He's got a spot.
- 2:24Speaker 3: Big Tino Fasuma Ali. Yep.
- 2:27Speaker 1: Fasuma Ali.
- 2:28Speaker 3: That was my best effort.
- 2:30Speaker 2: Okay. Big Tino, I'll stick with that.
- 2:32Speaker 1: Sorry, bro. You can hit him.
- 2:34Speaker 2: Yeah, you and Gail can fight him.
- 2:35Speaker 3: I'm surprised. Fafida, Dave Fafida is a debutante.
- 2:39Speaker 1: No, I really liked the way he looked in the last,
- 2:43Speaker 1: like the back end of the year, Dave. Oh, yeah.
- 2:46Speaker 2: This is, yeah.
- 2:47Speaker 4: I think the refreshing nature of leaving the Gold Coast.
- 2:52Speaker 1: Yes.
- 2:52Speaker 2: Reconnecting with Wayne has.
- 2:54Speaker 1: Really, really, And a lot of people, I think, questioned
- 2:57Speaker 1: how much he was involved in the games early on
- 2:59Speaker 1: in the year, right? Like, it looked like he was,
- 3:01Speaker 1: I think it was just a good, it was a plan.
- 3:04Speaker 1: And I, if you, correct me if I'm wrong, but
- 3:07Speaker 1: I thought the back end of the year, I've really
- 3:09Speaker 1: seen something that I went, oh shit, he's going to be,
- 3:12Speaker 1: if he keeps going here with this, like, in the
- 3:14Speaker 1: next year.
- 3:14Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 3:15Speaker 1: He's going to be a day for Feta that we
- 3:17Speaker 1: haven't seen for a long time, and that is dangerous.
- 3:20Speaker 2: Played in the centres, actually, up in PNG for the
- 3:22Speaker 2: Prime Minister.
- 3:23Speaker 1: Did he? I didn't see that.
- 3:24Speaker 2: And captain of the team, too, so a great honour
- 3:26Speaker 2: for him to be able to do that.
- 3:28Speaker 1: How good is that?
- 3:29Speaker 2: Benny Teo had him in the centres.
- 3:31Speaker 1: He'd been a weapon out there.
- 3:34Speaker 3: Not a lot of Storm players made the cut, but
- 3:36Speaker 3: Harry Grant is one of those. Now, who's going to
- 3:38Speaker 3: play hooker then out of Harry?
- 3:41Speaker 1: Harry. Yeah, you'd probably think Harry. But two great options.
- 3:45Speaker 1: Two options that lead the team. They lead the team
- 3:49Speaker 1: around the park.
- 3:49Speaker 3: Does Braley get on the bench or do you put
- 3:52Speaker 3: Dearden in 14?
- 3:53Speaker 2: Ooh, yeah. Who's halfback then?
- 3:57Speaker 4: Because you've got Moses there and you've got Munster there.
- 3:59Speaker 4: Is that the halves combination? How many halfbacks are in
- 4:03Speaker 4: this team? Is it Dearden and Munster that play in
- 4:06Speaker 4: the halves?
- 4:07Speaker 1: How many halfbacks are in this team?
- 4:09Speaker 3: Three.
- 4:10Speaker 1: Whoa. Why? I just think you're making it up. Why?
- 4:15Speaker 2: Why is it making it up?
- 4:16Speaker 1: It's a long... It's a 23-man squad, isn't it?
- 4:17Speaker 2: Yeah, it's a long.
- 4:18Speaker 1: So you've got three of those spots in halves.
- 4:21Speaker 2: Yeah, but injuries.
- 4:22Speaker 1: They're sevens.
- 4:23Speaker 2: Injuries happen.
- 4:24Speaker 1: What about sixes? We got any sixes? Munster.
- 4:25Speaker 3: Munster's the only six.
- 4:27Speaker 2: He's a six, mate.
- 4:27Speaker 1: Yeah, but is there three sevens there? You've got Moses. Moses, Tom.
- 4:31Speaker 3: Moses, Tom, and....
- 4:35Speaker 2: That's it.
- 4:36Speaker 3: I think that, yeah, that's it.
- 4:37Speaker 1: And then no other six? No other six.
- 4:39Speaker 2: No other six. Oh, okay, okay.
- 4:41Speaker 1: Two sevens and six. Three sevens is what I heard yesterday.
- 4:46Speaker 1: That's a lot of sevens. But no, okay, that's fine.
- 4:49Speaker 1: I'm fine.
- 4:50Speaker 3: Keon Kolomatangi.
- 4:52Speaker 1: Yep, nice. You actually did a good job there.
- 4:53Speaker 3: Liam Martin.
- 4:54Speaker 1: Yep, that was a good pronunciation too.
- 4:57Speaker 3: Liam Martin is an easy one.
- 4:58Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 4:58Speaker 3: For the Panthers. Latrell.
- 5:00Speaker 1: He's back.
- 5:01Speaker 2: Latrell Mitt.
- 5:02Speaker 3: Mitchell Moses. We've mentioned Cam Munster. Cam Murray.
- 5:05Speaker 1: Yep.
- 5:06Speaker 3: There's a lot of locks.
- 5:07Speaker 1: Two good Cams. I don't know about the one with
- 5:09Speaker 1: the M, but anyway.
- 5:11Speaker 3: Um, Jacob Preston gets his first, first.
- 5:14Speaker 2: Awesome.
- 5:14Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 5:15Speaker 2: He's a great player. He deserves it.
- 5:16Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 5:16Speaker 1: I think he's a great player. Is he the only
- 5:17Speaker 1: Bulldogs player?
- 5:18Speaker 3: I think he might be. He certainly was great.
- 5:20Speaker 1: I can't wait to see him run a hole off
- 5:21Speaker 1: one of those halves. Like, geez, that, he, he, he's
- 5:24Speaker 1: one of my favorite to watch that bloke.
- 5:25Speaker 4: I think he was a part of the squad last
- 5:27Speaker 4: year and, but didn't get a chance to play over
- 5:29Speaker 4: in the UK.
- 5:30Speaker 2: Maybe.
- 5:31Speaker 4: Right.
- 5:31Speaker 2: I could be making that up.
- 5:32Speaker 1: I think you're right. Yes.
- 5:33Speaker 3: Yeah. Um, and there's been a swap of Lindsay's. So, uh,
- 5:37Speaker 3: so Lindsay.
- 5:38Speaker 1: The, uh, Lindsey Jarrett for Lindsey Collins.
- 5:41Speaker 3: Lindsey Collins is out and Lindsey Smith is in. So
- 5:44Speaker 3: Collins has got an injury.
- 5:45Speaker 2: Oh, okay.
- 5:46Speaker 3: He's got surgery or something.
- 5:47Speaker 1: What did he lose out of the tooth?
- 5:50Speaker 3: So Panthers, Lindsey Smith's in.
- 5:53Speaker 2: Sorry, Lindsey.
- 5:53Speaker 1: I love you, man. I'm sorry. You're probably going to
- 5:55Speaker 1: flog me one day.
- 5:57Speaker 2: I hope so. I love the way he plays.
- 5:59Speaker 3: Another Bronco, Ketone Staggs.
- 6:01Speaker 2: Tones, yes.
- 6:03Speaker 3: James Tedesco, no surprise there. Tom Dravojevic, I think, is
- 6:07Speaker 3: more of a surprise.
- 6:09Speaker 1: No, he's a great player.
- 6:11Speaker 2: But he can also play wing and center as well
- 6:14Speaker 2: and fullback.
- 6:14Speaker 1: I think he'd be a center. I think he'd be
- 6:16Speaker 1: a dangerous center. He can control himself a bit there.
- 6:19Speaker 4: I think he might play a roaming wing because you've
- 6:22Speaker 4: got Trell.
- 6:23Speaker 2: Roaming wing.
- 6:24Speaker 4: Yeah, because you've got Latrell and you've also got Tones
- 6:28Speaker 4: who are out-and-out centers.
- 6:30Speaker 2: At the end of the day.
- 6:30Speaker 1: Nah, Tones can play a lot.
- 6:31Speaker 2: And there's only one winger. There's only Jack Bostock.
- 6:34Speaker 1: Tones can play a 5'8, if you ask him, but.
- 6:36Speaker 2: He did, mate.
- 6:36Speaker 4: He played 5-8 for Tonga and beat Australia. Yeah, it
- 6:39Speaker 4: was just no pass, just run.
- 6:42Speaker 3: There is a third halfback, and that's Sam Walker.
- 6:44Speaker 2: Oh, yes, there is.
- 6:46Speaker 1: Well, Moses can play 5-8.
- 6:47Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 6:50Speaker 1: But I think that's hard. That's really tough. Who do
- 6:54Speaker 1: you leave off?
- 6:57Speaker 2: When you've got those.
- 6:58Speaker 1: I'm just being honest, man. Tommy did, and yeah, he
- 7:02Speaker 1: can play multiple positions, but You know, so can Moses,
- 7:05Speaker 1: so can Munster. Yeah, you know, the only one that
- 7:08Speaker 1: probably can't is Walker.
- 7:11Speaker 3: He's a halfback, aren't you?
- 7:11Speaker 1: He's a halfback.
- 7:12Speaker 3: Like, unless he's... That's why I think you put Dearden
- 7:15Speaker 3: at 14 and have him ready to go somewhere else.
- 7:19Speaker 2: I don't mind the Munster and Walker in the halves together.
- 7:23Speaker 1: I was about to say that. And, like, you can
- 7:24Speaker 1: have a Moses. Like, Moses on the... He can play... Like,
- 7:28Speaker 1: he's tough. I've seen him, like, you know, defend, you know,
- 7:33Speaker 1: pretty well engaged I'm like you know he's because he's
- 7:35Speaker 1: big he's tall he isn't a short half how.
- 7:38Speaker 3: Much say will Kevi get as coach will he choose
- 7:41Speaker 3: probably all of it all of it so you would
- 7:44Speaker 3: think it's probably going to be that.
- 7:45Speaker 1: No no idea when you like in my eyes a
- 7:49Speaker 1: coach is they have overall say right but you got
- 7:52Speaker 1: your back your assistance there to give you what their
- 7:56Speaker 1: guidance and what their thoughts are on team selections defensive
- 8:00Speaker 1: patterns attack patterns and then end of the day if
- 8:03Speaker 1: you trust them wholly solely and which is what you
- 8:05Speaker 1: should do then you you go well look we agree
- 8:09Speaker 1: on all these well then let's yeah and then we
- 8:11Speaker 1: just gotta figure out the rest and you don't over
- 8:13Speaker 1: to overrule everyone i don't feel because then you get
- 8:16Speaker 1: a bit of a disruption but a riff you back
- 8:20Speaker 1: your assistants if they push for someone hard i think
- 8:22Speaker 1: you gotta back them but it's the team is you
- 8:24Speaker 1: know what the team is it's it's it's like a
- 8:28Speaker 1: lot of utility like not Most of those players can
- 8:32Speaker 1: play more than one. Except, yeah, there's probably one or
- 8:36Speaker 1: two that can't. That's a dangerous team.
- 8:38Speaker 3: There's two players left. One Bronco in Reece Walsh.
- 8:40Speaker 1: Yep.
- 8:41Speaker 3: And the captain we mentioned already is Ozai Yo. No Ponga?
- 8:47Speaker 3: You find that strange?
- 8:48Speaker 2: He's going for New Zealand.
- 8:48Speaker 1: New Zealand.
- 8:49Speaker 3: Oh, of course.
- 8:49Speaker 1: He said that as soon as that rule came out,
- 8:51Speaker 1: he straight over.
- 8:53Speaker 3: Okay.
- 8:53Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 8:54Speaker 1: Now that team.
- 8:54Speaker 3: Well, that's great.
- 8:55Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah.
- 8:56Speaker 2: Yeah. Wow.
- 8:58Speaker 4: And some players with form at the moment too.
- 9:02Speaker 2: Yeah. Holy.
- 9:03Speaker 3: It'll be made up of mostly white.
- 9:04Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah.
- 9:05Speaker 3: You think?
- 9:05Speaker 2: This is like.
- 9:08Speaker 1: I'm excited for this.
- 9:08Speaker 4: Without being disrespectful to any of the other teams out there,
- 9:13Speaker 4: for a long, long time, the World Cup has always
- 9:16Speaker 4: been a three-horse race. So it's always been Australia, New Zealand, England.
- 9:20Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 9:21Speaker 2: But this year you throw in teams like Samoa and Tonga.
- 9:23Speaker 2: I think she's a seven-horse race.
- 9:25Speaker 4: I know Samoa played in the final last time against
- 9:28Speaker 4: Australia and they were brilliant.
- 9:30Speaker 2: They've only gotten stronger. Yep. The Tongan side, holy wow.
- 9:35Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 9:36Speaker 2: They've only gotten stronger as well. So this is going
- 9:38Speaker 2: to be a fantastic walk up.
- 9:41Speaker 3: Even Fiji is pretty much all NRL players.
- 9:44Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 9:45Speaker 4: Fiji have got a few young guys in there. They're
- 9:48Speaker 4: kind of almost in a little bit of a rebuilding stage.
- 9:51Speaker 4: I know there's going to be more and more Fijian
- 9:54Speaker 4: players that will feature throughout the NRL in the years
- 9:56Speaker 4: to come.
- 9:56Speaker 2: I know Big Petro's having a seat.
- 9:58Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm loving Petro.
- 9:59Speaker 2: I love Petro. doing a lot of stuff now with
- 10:03Speaker 2: the Silk Tales. They play in the New South Wales.
- 10:06Speaker 1: There's a lot to do with them. What he does
- 10:07Speaker 1: for that country with Rugby League is insane. I take
- 10:12Speaker 1: my hat off to him. He's doing a great job.
- 10:14Speaker 1: He's growing the game over there and a lot of
- 10:17Speaker 1: people are with him but It's a massive thing, what
- 10:20Speaker 1: he's done. And you've seen him over the last few
- 10:22Speaker 1: years grow and get better and better.
- 10:24Speaker 4: What he's trying to do at the moment is set
- 10:26Speaker 4: up a genuine pathway. So he wants some young kids
- 10:29Speaker 4: coming over here and playing in the under-19s competition, in
- 10:34Speaker 4: the reserve grade competition, but then in the New South
- 10:37Speaker 4: Wales Cup.
- 10:37Speaker 1: Yeah, they've got a full set-up over there now that
- 10:40Speaker 1: he pushed and got done. for them to have a
- 10:44Speaker 1: professional facility to train and all that. It's great what
- 10:48Speaker 1: they're doing. And in years to come, they're going to
- 10:52Speaker 1: get stronger and stronger.
- 10:53Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah.
- 10:54Speaker 2: You've got Jason Demetrio.
- 10:55Speaker 4: He's coming back from coaching the London Broncos to victory
- 10:58Speaker 4: over there in their competition. And he's got three players
- 11:05Speaker 4: that play for him from Papua New Guinea. He's the
- 11:08Speaker 4: Papua New Guinean coach.
- 11:09Speaker 1: I see this one as one of the most even,
- 11:11Speaker 1: the most even World Cup I've seen ever.
- 11:14Speaker 3: It's an interesting thing when you're playing for Australia, because
- 11:18Speaker 3: obviously Queensland, state of origin, we often talk about it
- 11:21Speaker 3: being the pinnacle, but being able to play for your country,
- 11:24Speaker 3: what's that feel like, Sam?
- 11:26Speaker 4: No, it's definitely great. I think the hardest time for
- 11:31Speaker 4: me was 06. after we'd won the grand final. And
- 11:35Speaker 4: then like a couple of weeks later, you turn around,
- 11:37Speaker 4: you're in camp and you're trying to prepare for, I
- 11:39Speaker 4: think we played a tri-series at that point in time, Australia,
- 11:44Speaker 4: New Zealand and England. And I think I only played
- 11:47Speaker 4: the one game that year, which I was kind of
- 11:49Speaker 4: happy with. One, because I got to represent Australia for
- 11:52Speaker 4: the first time, but I think I was still hung over.
- 11:57Speaker 2: So I played 20 minutes.
- 11:58Speaker 4: And yeah, it's always hard to play those, at the
- 12:03Speaker 4: end of the year, but that's when and the only
- 12:06Speaker 4: time we can really fit them in. Probably the best
- 12:10Speaker 4: time ever was our World Cup year. It felt like
- 12:15Speaker 4: we were in England forever, and it almost was eight
- 12:18Speaker 4: weeks in the end. We got to play against New
- 12:22Speaker 4: Zealand at Old Trafford.
- 12:24Speaker 2: Which was like– That's cool.
- 12:26Speaker 4: It was so good for me because my brother was
- 12:28Speaker 4: a Manchester United fan and I got to.
- 12:29Speaker 2: Play on Old Trafford. I was like, yeah, in your face.
- 12:32Speaker 4: But even just leading up to that game, I think
- 12:35Speaker 4: we played Fiji at Wembley, but the curtain raiser, well,
- 12:40Speaker 4: it was a doubleheader. The game before us was England
- 12:43Speaker 4: and New Zealand, and England were out in front.
- 12:46Speaker 2: I don't know if you remember. This is the Sean
- 12:47Speaker 2: Johnson big left foot step. Oh, that was– Yeah.
- 12:50Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 12:51Speaker 4: So they over-chased on him. He left footstep, scored and
- 12:53Speaker 4: kicked the goal and put him through. But we were
- 12:56Speaker 4: in the sheds watching that game.
- 12:58Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 12:58Speaker 4: And it comes a point where, you know, you've got
- 13:01Speaker 4: to get your head on. So coach just went around
- 13:03Speaker 4: and turned the TV off. And, like, without being cocky
- 13:06Speaker 4: or arrogant, we knew that we had Fiji's measure and
- 13:09Speaker 4: we were going to get through to the final.
- 13:12Speaker 3: But.
- 13:14Speaker 4: We thought we were playing England, and we were so pumped.
- 13:16Speaker 4: To play England at Old Trafford would have just been
- 13:18Speaker 4: next level.
- 13:19Speaker 2: It would have been deafening.
- 13:21Speaker 4: The sound of the crowd would have been great. And
- 13:23Speaker 4: then it's kind of weird. We go out the little
- 13:26Speaker 4: door and walk through the tunnel, and then all these
- 13:30Speaker 4: English lads are just walking down the tunnel, head down,
- 13:34Speaker 4: absolutely disappointed, in tears.
- 13:36Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 13:37Speaker 4: And then the Kiwis are still running around the field
- 13:40Speaker 4: high-fiving everyone. And we're like, what the fuck just happened?
- 13:44Speaker 4: And yeah, Shawnee Johnson, brilliant. They had kind of played their...
- 13:50Speaker 4: grand final in that game it was so hard for
- 13:52Speaker 4: them to come back and win that game and we
- 13:54Speaker 4: were just on we were like from the from the
- 13:56Speaker 4: opening minute well that team yous had though it was
- 13:59Speaker 4: a good bloody team I know how many immortals were
- 14:02Speaker 4: in that team at the end of the.
- 14:03Speaker 1: Day at least six yeah so like those teams back
- 14:06Speaker 1: then it was insane.
- 14:07Speaker 4: It was a bunch of freaks yeah and no one
- 14:09Speaker 4: yeah no one could come near us in those days so.
- 14:12Speaker 1: Like everyone forgets Jared Hayne like you know in the
- 14:14Speaker 1: years after oh Jared in his prime yeah it was
- 14:17Speaker 1: unbelievable but those teams yeah Gasney is in Hodges and
- 14:20Speaker 1: like yourself and like.
- 14:22Speaker 4: All the people and GI and Billy and Cam and
- 14:25Speaker 4: JT and Huber Cronk this is the.
- 14:27Speaker 1: Team like and you've got backups that are immortals almost.
- 14:31Speaker 3: Like coming off the bench you've got immortals coming off.
- 14:34Speaker 4: The bench yeah like that or like guys that couldn't
- 14:37Speaker 4: even make the team because like that.
- 14:38Speaker 1: Team yeah you couldn't have gotten you wouldn't have got
- 14:42Speaker 1: beaten there's no way you would have got beaten that
- 14:44Speaker 1: team you couldn't see it happening because there's too many
- 14:48Speaker 1: leaders for one and too much talent, like, and, like,
- 14:52Speaker 1: too many mortals, and, oh, geez, it would have been
- 14:55Speaker 1: good to play in that team.
- 14:58Speaker 2: Yeah, but no, it's, like, I'm excited to watch this world, because, again, it's.
- 15:05Speaker 4: I think it's the most even we've ever kind of
- 15:08Speaker 4: seen a lot of the teams, and, yeah, like, it's a,
- 15:12Speaker 4: this is going to be a toss of the coin, like,
- 15:14Speaker 4: You could even, like, we could even see Samoa and
- 15:17Speaker 4: Tonga play in this final.
- 15:19Speaker 1: I reckon every chance we could see a Tonga-Kiwi final,
- 15:23Speaker 1: you know, or an Aussie-Samoa, like, it's, you know, and
- 15:29Speaker 1: you can't rule out other teams. You just can't because
- 15:31Speaker 1: you just, they turn.
- 15:33Speaker 2: Up and they play.
- 15:34Speaker 1: Like, they're all a chance. They really are. It's just
- 15:37Speaker 1: the hard part is always turning up back to back,
- 15:39Speaker 1: you know, and it is hard for the teams that
- 15:41Speaker 1: aren't used to it. Like, you know, the other countries.
- 15:44Speaker 2: The smaller nations, you know, like Lebanon, like they will struggle.
- 15:50Speaker 2: But you know what? They get a chance to represent
- 15:51Speaker 2: their country.
- 15:52Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 15:52Speaker 4: And their family's heritage. You've got Cook Islands as well.
- 15:55Speaker 4: I think Carmichael Hunt's the coach of Cook Islands. Alex
- 15:58Speaker 4: Glenn doing some stuff with them.
- 15:59Speaker 1: Alex, you put the boots still on? He'll probably lace up.
- 16:01Speaker 2: No, well, I don't think so. But he has previously.
- 16:05Speaker 1: He did. Was it last day?
- 16:07Speaker 2: Maybe the year before.
- 16:08Speaker 1: The year before?
- 16:09Speaker 2: Yeah, in the Pacific Championships. I swear to God he did. Yeah,
- 16:11Speaker 2: he had to play because they were short on numbers.
- 16:15Speaker 2: So still fit as all hell.
- 16:18Speaker 1: Like you said, I think it's awesome. They get to
- 16:20Speaker 1: go out there and represent their country in a World
- 16:23Speaker 1: Cup and play against great players. And I think it's
- 16:26Speaker 1: also a time for them to take away some stuff,
- 16:28Speaker 1: ask questions. It's a great time for people to learn.
- 16:32Speaker 1: You know, other nations to learn off the nations that,
- 16:35Speaker 1: you know, off the teams that do well and have
- 16:37Speaker 1: the coaches, have the backing, have the support. You know,
- 16:40Speaker 1: where can we improve? Just, I think it's great for that.
- 16:43Speaker 1: You know, the game grows. And I reckon this World
- 16:46Speaker 1: Cup is going to be so exciting that our game
- 16:50Speaker 1: could grow so much out of this, like with how
- 16:52Speaker 1: even this World Cup is. And, yeah, I'm pumped. I
- 16:56Speaker 1: think it's going to be awesome.
- 16:57Speaker 2: Yeah, it's hard to say, but our game isn't truly
- 17:00Speaker 2: international yet.
- 17:01Speaker 1: No, it's definitely not.
- 17:02Speaker 4: Rugby union definitely is, but for our game to grow
- 17:06Speaker 4: on an international level, we need to play more internationals,
- 17:09Speaker 4: and we need to see more nations like your Lebanon's,
- 17:13Speaker 4: your Cook Islands, your France. Even teams that didn't get
- 17:18Speaker 4: through the qualifiers, like you've got Italy, you've got even Jamaica.
- 17:23Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 17:24Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah.
- 17:25Speaker 3: I think Kenya play.
- 17:26Speaker 2: Really? We're slowly getting there. That's good. We're slowly getting there.
- 17:29Speaker 1: I'm not going to lie. I don't think it's a
- 17:31Speaker 1: sport where a new nation is just going to go, hey, guys,
- 17:34Speaker 1: here's a rugby league. We'll run hard and get flogged.
- 17:36Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 17:37Speaker 1: It's a tough sell.
- 17:38Speaker 3: Sounds fun, hey?
- 17:39Speaker 2: It's a tough sell. Sounds good, doesn't it, boys?
- 17:41Speaker 1: Let's do it. You might get a broken arm or
- 17:44Speaker 1: a broken leg, but who cares?
- 17:47Speaker 2: They did it in cool runnings.
- 17:49Speaker 1: No, I know, but I was about to do it too.
- 17:51Speaker 3: I was good enough for cool runnings, yeah.
- 17:53Speaker 1: Go on, do your thing. No, no, no.
- 17:54Speaker 3: Come on.
- 17:55Speaker 1: No, but I think it's a great time, and I
- 17:58Speaker 1: think you're right. We aren't fully a world game, but
- 18:04Speaker 1: it's a chance. It's a chance to grow.
- 18:06Speaker 3: And there's a big step.
- 18:06Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 18:08Speaker 3: Shall I go through the Kiwi team quick?
- 18:10Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 18:11Speaker 3: Aaron Clark, Warriors. You've got James Fisher-Harris. Dane Gagai. Yep.
- 18:15Speaker 3: Jerome Hughes, Jermaine Asako, Keanu Kinney, Jacob LeBarn, you've got
- 18:22Speaker 3: Moses Leota, Jeremy Marshall King, Tamare Martin, Casey McLean, Ronaldo Militalo,
- 18:30Speaker 3: Charles Nichol-Klodstad, Brighton Ikora.
- 18:34Speaker 1: Do they call him Brighton?
- 18:35Speaker 2: Britain.
- 18:36Speaker 1: Is it Britain? Yeah, I think it's Britain.
- 18:38Speaker 3: Cody Nicarima, Isaiah Pabali, Kalen. Scott Sorensen, Tanner Stowers-Smith, Joseph Tarponet,
- 18:48Speaker 3: Leo Thompson, Nafahu White, and Xavier Wilson.
- 18:51Speaker 2: What about the front row? How big are their props, man?
- 18:56Speaker 3: That's a good team.
- 18:57Speaker 1: How fast are their props, too?
- 18:58Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah. Wow.
- 19:00Speaker 1: What a foot pack. Well, can you go through the
- 19:04Speaker 1: other two now? Well, the other teams?
- 19:06Speaker 3: Well, I'm not going to go through PNG because some
- 19:09Speaker 3: of those names are a nightmare for me, having not
- 19:11Speaker 3: read them before. And actually... Interesting, the Lebanon team I
- 19:15Speaker 3: would have thought would be full up of, you know,
- 19:17Speaker 3: some other NRL players. But it looks like there's most
- 19:20Speaker 3: of them I've not seen before.
- 19:21Speaker 1: Wow. I knew it was going to be good, but wow.
- 19:26Speaker 3: France have got a full team as well.
- 19:28Speaker 2: That's good. Oui, oui.
- 19:29Speaker 3: From Catalan and Toulouse.
- 19:31Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah.
- 19:34Speaker 3: Yeah, heaps of NRL on the Fiji team. Just having
- 19:37Speaker 3: a quick look at England, you've got AJ Brimson.
- 19:39Speaker 1: Oh, the England team's always strong though. They're always tough.
- 19:42Speaker 3: Herbie's playing as well.
- 19:43Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 19:43Speaker 3: They've got a few Warriors and they do have a
- 19:45Speaker 3: fair few players from Wigan and places.
- 19:47Speaker 1: Oh, yeah. They're always tough. They've always got a great team.
- 19:50Speaker 3: So Victor Radley's playing.
- 19:53Speaker 2: England.
- 19:54Speaker 1: He has the last few years.
- 19:56Speaker 2: He has the last couple of years, yeah. So his
- 19:58Speaker 2: dad is from England.
- 20:00Speaker 3: And Hugo Savala as well.
- 20:02Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 20:02Speaker 3: So, yeah, they've got a pretty good team.
- 20:04Speaker 1: No, they've got a good team.
- 20:04Speaker 3: Don Young, of course, yeah. So they've got a good team.
- 20:06Speaker 2: Ben Tolti.
- 20:07Speaker 1: Tulti.
- 20:07Speaker 3: So what's the Tulti English? Is he got somewhere?
- 20:11Speaker 1: Probably the Tult part. I don't know.
- 20:13Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 20:13Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 20:14Speaker 1: I don't know. But you know what? It's great because
- 20:16Speaker 1: I love him so much. Yeah. He is one of
- 20:18Speaker 1: the greatest impact players I've seen for a long time.
- 20:21Speaker 2: So England open their campaign against Tonga. Oh, what a game.
- 20:27Speaker 2: In Perth.
- 20:28Speaker 1: Yes.
- 20:28Speaker 4: Oh, and it's going to be absolutely crazy that game.
- 20:31Speaker 4: The Tongan team is actually, it's stacked.
- 20:33Speaker 2: It's stacked. they'll be hard to beat. Good luck, Dave.
- 20:40Speaker 4: So the Australian and New Zealand kick it off at
- 20:44Speaker 4: Allianz Stadium on the.
- 20:45Speaker 2: 15th of October.
- 20:46Speaker 1: Oh, that's the first game?
- 20:47Speaker 2: Yeah, that's the first game.
- 20:49Speaker 4: And then there's a doubleheader after that. You've got Samoa
- 20:53Speaker 4: and France. And then you have, I think it is
- 20:59Speaker 4: then Australia and Samoa. Yeah, in the women's, so it's
- 21:05Speaker 4: a doubleheader. And then on the 17th, so there's two
- 21:08Speaker 4: doubleheaders going on. So PNG in France for the men
- 21:14Speaker 4: up in PNG, and then PNG.
- 21:17Speaker 2: Versus Lebanon up in Port Moresby. And then over in Perth,
- 21:23Speaker 2: that's going to be absolutely massive.
- 21:24Speaker 3: That Tonga game, I'm just having a look at the
- 21:26Speaker 3: team here. Faneuil Blake, Wateni Zalesniak. They've got Izzy Katoa.
- 21:31Speaker 2: Yeah, that, yeah.
- 21:33Speaker 3: Sua Wong, they've got another Katoa, they've got Toya, Robert
- 21:38Speaker 3: Toya's playing as well.
- 21:39Speaker 1: Oh man, that team is going to be nuts.
- 21:40Speaker 3: That is a solid team.
- 21:42Speaker 1: But they're all, it's going to be so good. There's
- 21:44Speaker 1: going to be good footy.
- 21:46Speaker 3: My favourite bit is when you get like, if Tonga
- 21:49Speaker 3: take on New Zealand and they'll do the harker at
- 21:50Speaker 3: each other.
- 21:51Speaker 1: Yeah, it's cool. There's a lot of respect there.
- 21:52Speaker 3: It's one of the best moments in sport.
- 21:53Speaker 1: You see a lot of respect with those now.
- 21:57Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 21:57Speaker 1: And it's so good to watch because... you know, you
- 22:01Speaker 1: see it, the build up at the start of those
- 22:03Speaker 1: games are always going to be big.
- 22:05Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 22:05Speaker 1: When they do, you know, when they do that stuff
- 22:08Speaker 1: at each other and then kick off, you're just like, oh,
- 22:11Speaker 1: it's going to be good.
- 22:11Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 22:12Speaker 1: You know, it gets the excitement for the game. It's great.
- 22:15Speaker 1: Can't wait.
- 22:15Speaker 2: All right.
- 22:15Speaker 3: Bring it on Thursday night. Let's go. The Kangaroos.
