- 0:00Speaker 1: Off the Bench with Jacob Hester and Matt Flynn.
- 0:03Speaker 2: Okay, here we go where.
- 0:04Speaker 1: The plays get broken down and science gets denied to
- 0:08Speaker 1: come off the bench. Our two of Off the Bench
- 0:10Speaker 1: live from the Raising Kine Studio.
- 0:32Speaker 3: All right, welcome back in our number two of o
- 0:35Speaker 3: TV our Wednesday shows, of course, brought to you by
- 0:38Speaker 3: Hood Dental Carehood Dentalcare dot com is the website. Go
- 0:42Speaker 3: see them today multiple occasions here in the Baton Bruges area.
- 0:45Speaker 3: We're gonna go to Fort Worth, Texas now. Our guy,
- 0:50Speaker 3: doctor Stephen Etheridge is there with l s U Gymnastics
- 0:54Speaker 3: getting ready for another national championship run.
- 0:58Speaker 4: Dr Athriche, how we doing, brother doing fantastic?
- 1:01Speaker 5: How y'all doing today?
- 1:02Speaker 4: Doing great? All right?
- 1:03Speaker 3: Tell us like tell us the vibes. How's the squad
- 1:05Speaker 3: doing a lot of purple and goal in Fort Worth?
- 1:08Speaker 4: Kind of? What's the setup?
- 1:10Speaker 6: So they're definitely pumped up for this one. We got
- 1:13Speaker 6: you're rolling them together with duct tape. Everybody's always banged up,
- 1:16Speaker 6: but uh now it's gonna be a good show when
- 1:19Speaker 6: the people probably start showing up today. Tomorrow we compete tomorrow.
- 1:22Speaker 6: So we just got in yesterday. So it's time to roll.
- 1:26Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean you you've told us throughout the year
- 1:29Speaker 3: that like gymnastics and like the toll that it takes
- 1:33Speaker 3: on the athlete and all the different things they have
- 1:36Speaker 3: to do, So you're, you know, probably right when you
- 1:38Speaker 3: get to this point, it's truly like, Okay, we got
- 1:41Speaker 3: to find a way, we got to do it. Ever
- 1:42Speaker 3: wee can nobody's one hundred percent kind of that speech.
- 1:46Speaker 6: Yeah, it's you know, we've talked about it. These girls
- 1:48Speaker 6: they're so tough. They they have to really put it together,
- 1:51Speaker 6: but this time of year, it gets they get pretty
- 1:53Speaker 6: banged up.
- 1:56Speaker 7: As as a man, like I think I always feel
- 1:58Speaker 7: like guys are tough, but girls can take it to
- 2:01Speaker 7: another level. Like do you see is there any other
- 2:05Speaker 7: sport that as athletes that have to be that go
- 2:08Speaker 7: through their body just goes through the stressors the physical
- 2:11Speaker 7: stress that have to deal with as much as the gymnastics.
- 2:16Speaker 5: You know, I don't know that I can think of one.
- 2:17Speaker 6: You know, they're they're they're doing things with their bodies
- 2:19Speaker 6: that that I can't, can't do, never could do, and
- 2:23Speaker 6: so it's just hard to imagine that stress.
- 2:24Speaker 5: But yeah, there's they're really banged up this time of year.
- 2:27Speaker 6: They have to you know, you think about shoulders, ankles, knees,
- 2:31Speaker 6: you're landing, you're flipping, you're twisting. It's it's pretty impressive
- 2:34Speaker 6: what they have to endure just to just to be
- 2:36Speaker 6: out there and compete.
- 2:39Speaker 3: All right, Doc, This is not for any specific person, sure,
- 2:43Speaker 3: not for any specific It's not no specific person here.
- 2:47Speaker 3: But like when you've had a surgery and let's say
- 2:49Speaker 3: like you have like pins placed in your hand or
- 2:51Speaker 3: like other parts of your body, and let's say like
- 2:54Speaker 3: they take those out, Like that's just getting out what
- 2:57Speaker 3: you already put in knowing you were gonna have to
- 2:59Speaker 3: take it out. And that's not necessarily as bad as
- 3:01Speaker 3: it sounds, right right right.
- 3:04Speaker 5: You know, there's there's certain surgeries that you'll.
- 3:07Speaker 6: Do where we're going to leave the pens in or
- 3:10Speaker 6: the crews or whatever it is we're talking about.
- 3:11Speaker 5: So sometimes you're going to leave things in.
- 3:14Speaker 6: Then there are other procedures where you kind of know
- 3:16Speaker 6: going into it that at some point we got to
- 3:18Speaker 6: take these out. And when that's the case, you got
- 3:21Speaker 6: to try and you know, theoretically come up with a.
- 3:23Speaker 5: Good time to do that.
- 3:25Speaker 6: You know, looking at scheduling, looking at when you can
- 3:27Speaker 6: maybe make the most out of it, because you can't
- 3:29Speaker 6: team out too early. You got to leave men long
- 3:31Speaker 6: enough that whatever the injury is heals, and you got
- 3:34Speaker 6: to allow for time after the fact for everything to heal.
- 3:37Speaker 6: So if you ever had yourself in the situation like that,
- 3:41Speaker 6: you know you'd want to play in the perfect time
- 3:42Speaker 6: in advance.
- 3:43Speaker 3: Unfortunately, I know a little bit too much about this
- 3:46Speaker 3: because you know, I had to go through some of this.
- 3:49Speaker 3: But for our listeners, how do you know that it's
- 3:53Speaker 3: the right time, Like, what is the procedure? Kind of
- 3:55Speaker 3: walk our listeners through what's the procedure to make sure
- 3:58Speaker 3: it is time that you can things kind of healed
- 4:00Speaker 3: where you wanted to and you can't actually remove those
- 4:03Speaker 3: and sometimes like like you said, like you look and
- 4:05Speaker 3: you can't.
- 4:07Speaker 6: Yeah, So it's it's it's these types of injuries. Most
- 4:10Speaker 6: of the times you're dealing with bone injuries or something
- 4:12Speaker 6: obviously at least involving a bone. So first and foremost
- 4:14Speaker 6: it's either a fracture or a sprain or strain that
- 4:17Speaker 6: you're anchoring something in and so one you want to
- 4:20Speaker 6: make sure that bone's healed. So you got to consider
- 4:22Speaker 6: how long does it take for the bone to heal,
- 4:24Speaker 6: and that's going to be different for different parts to body.
- 4:26Speaker 6: So if you're looking at a hand, it might be
- 4:28Speaker 6: quicker than say, if you know, again in a theoretical standpoint,
- 4:32Speaker 6: we're looking at a foot.
- 4:33Speaker 5: So some places take longer.
- 4:35Speaker 6: If it's something that's going to be under a lot
- 4:37Speaker 6: of stress, if it's an area that's going to be
- 4:39Speaker 6: you know, carrying a lot of weight, something that's going
- 4:41Speaker 6: to be really really put to that day to day stress,
- 4:44Speaker 6: then you're probably gonna leave a little longer to make
- 4:46Speaker 6: sure that whatever it.
- 4:47Speaker 5: Is is secure.
- 4:48Speaker 6: Sometimes when do X rays and CT scans and MRIs
- 4:51Speaker 6: and things like that just to see if that bone
- 4:53Speaker 6: is healed. But usually, you know, in a situation like this,
- 4:56Speaker 6: you're you're talking about something that's going to be several
- 4:59Speaker 6: several weeks probably months after the surgery, and that's kind
- 5:02Speaker 6: of the standard there.
- 5:04Speaker 7: Let me ask you this, doc, when pins get removed
- 5:07Speaker 7: from an injury after a surgery, does that mean healing
- 5:11Speaker 7: process is going pretty good and you're at a really
- 5:13Speaker 7: good spot to where those pins can come out?
- 5:16Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 5:17Speaker 5: Absolutely absolutely.
- 5:18Speaker 6: You know we're not going to take them out if
- 5:20Speaker 6: the injury's not healed, you know, because that's the whole
- 5:23Speaker 6: purpose that they're there.
- 5:24Speaker 5: They're there to hold something in place.
- 5:26Speaker 6: Again, like I said, if it's a high stress area,
- 5:29Speaker 6: you know, it's all that.
- 5:30Speaker 5: Much more important that you want to be healed.
- 5:31Speaker 6: But yeah, if we're taking something out, it's because they
- 5:34Speaker 6: have done what they need to do under most circumstances.
- 5:37Speaker 6: There might be a few rare occasions, just to be fair,
- 5:39Speaker 6: but typically in these situations where where we want to
- 5:43Speaker 6: be at that point.
- 5:44Speaker 2: The pins out is a good thing.
- 5:45Speaker 7: All right, So let's let's let's talk a little bit more. Basically,
- 5:49Speaker 7: explain to listeners. Explain us. Like we hear the screws,
- 5:56Speaker 7: like people get plates and screws put in a surgery.
- 5:58Speaker 7: We hear the pins. What is the actual physical like
- 6:01Speaker 7: I screw, I get it. I can visualize that a pin.
- 6:04Speaker 7: I can't really visualize what that is. It just a
- 6:07Speaker 7: screw that gets screwed out at some point? Is that
- 6:09Speaker 7: just what we call it?
- 6:10Speaker 2: A pin?
- 6:10Speaker 7: Like what's the difference between the actual physical stuff going
- 6:14Speaker 7: in your body?
- 6:16Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 6:16Speaker 6: So so basically when you're talking about a screw, it's
- 6:18Speaker 6: exactly like you said, A screw is a screw. It
- 6:20Speaker 6: it is if anybody is seeing one, it's the same
- 6:23Speaker 6: things that you're using. If you're you know, putting together Ah,
- 6:27Speaker 6: you know some kid from wherever, or putting the deck
- 6:29Speaker 6: together or doing whatever, screw fur my key together. Yeah,
- 6:34Speaker 6: it really it's it's it's crazy, but it's really you know,
- 6:36Speaker 6: obviously we're using a different grade metal and things like that,
- 6:39Speaker 6: but uh, it's a screw. You you basically use a
- 6:42Speaker 6: very similar tool. The pin most of the times is
- 6:45Speaker 6: something that's going to be set in and just pulled out.
- 6:47Speaker 8: Uh.
- 6:47Speaker 6: There may be some exceptions, but so it just doesn't
- 6:50Speaker 6: have the the essential uh striations on the on on
- 6:54Speaker 6: the pin. It's just a straight pin more. I guess
- 6:56Speaker 6: more like a nail would probably be the way you
- 6:57Speaker 6: would kind of think of a pin. It is probably
- 7:00Speaker 6: more appropriate.
- 7:04Speaker 3: I'm thinking of us like Wolverine. Yeah, he's some metals
- 7:07Speaker 3: and going through there. I think that's how it happened.
- 7:09Speaker 3: Kind of metal was that I can't remember.
- 7:11Speaker 9: Ah it's adamantium, yeah, straight off that right off the
- 7:19Speaker 9: hip there, Doc is this you got some nerd vibes?
- 7:22Speaker 5: I promise, Oh no, no.
- 7:23Speaker 4: It's great. I tried to get there and I couldn't. Doc.
- 7:26Speaker 3: Is this like the busiest time for you right now?
- 7:29Speaker 3: Like with gymnastics, you've got baseball, spring football. I'm like,
- 7:33Speaker 3: basketball's got to transfer portal, so I'm sure like physicals
- 7:37Speaker 3: are going to be happening right now. It feels like
- 7:38Speaker 3: right now softball like a perfect storm of l athletics
- 7:43Speaker 3: that you got to be ready for.
- 7:45Speaker 5: Yeah, the spring gets crazy.
- 7:47Speaker 6: You know, it's funny because the fall, because football football
- 7:50Speaker 6: is just such a demanding sport. There's there's so much
- 7:52Speaker 6: that goes into it. From the medical side, we're always
- 7:54Speaker 6: you know, we're on the road, we're traveling, we're doing stuff.
- 7:56Speaker 6: But springs a whole different kind of busy because you know,
- 7:59Speaker 6: maybe there's not one thing like that that demands so
- 8:02Speaker 6: much attention. But but the other hand, you're looking everywhere,
- 8:04Speaker 6: Like you said, you know, one day I'm here. The
- 8:05Speaker 6: next day we'll get a baseball game. The next day
- 8:07Speaker 6: it's attract me, the next day it's you know, you
- 8:09Speaker 6: name it. And then then you throw in spring football.
- 8:11Speaker 6: It gets a little chaotic for sure. At least they're
- 8:15Speaker 6: not going every day, but it the springtime gets pretty
- 8:18Speaker 6: nuts and even more so, you know, times like this
- 8:21Speaker 6: when we are blessed to make the postseason.
- 8:23Speaker 2: It just adds a.
- 8:24Speaker 5: Little bit to it.
- 8:25Speaker 6: But obviously I'm happy in these situations to be pulled
- 8:27Speaker 6: in a few directions.
- 8:30Speaker 7: Doc, let's talk to Achilles again. We've asked you numerous times.
- 8:33Speaker 7: He continues to be in the news and on headlines
- 8:37Speaker 7: throughout the country and athletes in all different sports.
- 8:41Speaker 2: What's up with these Achilles?
- 8:43Speaker 10: Man?
- 8:43Speaker 7: We just can't we can't figure. We were talking about
- 8:45Speaker 7: this yesterday. It's like we you have forever that it
- 8:50Speaker 7: was such a rare injury, and now it's just seems commonplace. Like,
- 8:55Speaker 7: what's your best theory on it?
- 8:58Speaker 6: You know, I think I really do think it's probably
- 9:01Speaker 6: a little bit of a lot of different things. I
- 9:04Speaker 6: think it's hard to I do think some of us
- 9:06Speaker 6: the repetitive load, if you think about it, you know,
- 9:09Speaker 6: from a young age. Now athletes are doing more and
- 9:12Speaker 6: they're not taking the rest, they're not taking the breaks,
- 9:14Speaker 6: they're not doing the much cross training.
- 9:16Speaker 5: I do think that plays into it. I think I
- 9:19Speaker 5: think some of it is surface.
- 9:20Speaker 6: You know, we've talked a little bit about that, but
- 9:22Speaker 6: there's more and more teams playing on these artificial surfaces. Now,
- 9:24Speaker 6: obviously not all of them come from those episodes. You know,
- 9:27Speaker 6: we have recent examples, so I can't blame it all
- 9:30Speaker 6: on that. I do think to some extent, you know,
- 9:33Speaker 6: you see these guys that are that are a little more,
- 9:35Speaker 6: you know, with evolution and growth and as we get
- 9:38Speaker 6: bigger and all those things, and I think I think
- 9:40Speaker 6: it's probably a little bit of all the above. Though
- 9:42Speaker 6: I think it's I think we can't put it all
- 9:45Speaker 6: on any one of those things, but I do think
- 9:46Speaker 6: it's probably the total combination.
- 9:49Speaker 5: In my theory. I don't know this to be true.
- 9:51Speaker 7: It's not always the fast people either, No, it's the
- 9:55Speaker 7: most twitchy people.
- 9:58Speaker 6: No, it's it's well, look you think about it. Obviously,
- 10:00Speaker 6: if you're fast and you're explosive, it makes sense. You know,
- 10:02Speaker 6: you got these guys that are just exploding out doing
- 10:05Speaker 6: all kinds of you know, just outstanding crazy feats of physics.
- 10:10Speaker 6: But then the other side is you think how big
- 10:12Speaker 6: some of these guys are, and you know, if you're
- 10:15Speaker 6: a big fellow and you come down and you have
- 10:17Speaker 6: that foot in a bad position, that's a that's a
- 10:20Speaker 6: lot of load on on an ankle and and and
- 10:23Speaker 6: then when you add in that you're pushing off of
- 10:24Speaker 6: it and you're strong, and it's it's so I think
- 10:26Speaker 6: you can kind of figure out how it happens in
- 10:28Speaker 6: either case.
- 10:30Speaker 4: Is that now maybe the longest to come back from it?
- 10:35Speaker 3: Like it used to feel like it was a cl
- 10:36Speaker 3: But I feel like y'all have done such a great
- 10:38Speaker 3: job of, you know, really figuring that out and and
- 10:42Speaker 3: kind of getting where you can get back much sooner
- 10:45Speaker 3: than you I mean, it once was like a career
- 10:47Speaker 3: end or it felt like, But is it now that
- 10:49Speaker 3: injury that's kind of taken over for maybe the longest
- 10:52Speaker 3: rehabit of things that we see? You know, I guess
- 10:55Speaker 3: normally kind of a weird way to say it, but
- 10:57Speaker 3: you know, right frequently.
- 11:00Speaker 5: Well it's got to be on the list, you know.
- 11:01Speaker 5: I think you're right. The A C.
- 11:02Speaker 6: L window has and the broad picture it has shortened.
- 11:07Speaker 6: Probably you know, you're you're probably still a little bit quicker,
- 11:12Speaker 6: you know, theoretically maybe with an achilles A lot of
- 11:14Speaker 6: it will depend on the individual, you know, you know,
- 11:17Speaker 6: how how big are they We talked about that a
- 11:18Speaker 6: moment ago, and where was the injury and how how
- 11:21Speaker 6: big was the injury and different variables, But it's that one.
- 11:25Speaker 6: I don't feel like we've shortened as much as some
- 11:27Speaker 6: of the others, at least not yet. Maybe we'll find
- 11:29Speaker 6: some things out, but it is one you know, you're
- 11:33Speaker 6: you're usually looking at at least six months as kind
- 11:35Speaker 6: of the short end with those, and sometimes a little longer.
- 11:39Speaker 7: Doc do you when you are on the field or
- 11:41Speaker 7: on the court, or around practice, around the athletes, are
- 11:45Speaker 7: you constantly looking for stuff that they might not be
- 11:49Speaker 7: noticing as well, whether it's a lamp or a shoulder,
- 11:54Speaker 7: you know, slaunching a shoulder or whatever, one of a
- 11:57Speaker 7: little lower than the other one. But like, what about
- 12:00Speaker 7: like things that are different. So we were talking about
- 12:03Speaker 7: randomly the other day eyesight. Is there things that you
- 12:08Speaker 7: would say, hey, man, are you seeing okay? Are you
- 12:11Speaker 7: is your vision proper or whatever? Because a lot of
- 12:13Speaker 7: times people have vision minor issues don't really know what's happening.
- 12:17Speaker 7: We talked about a teammate of ours, Dwayne bow back
- 12:19Speaker 7: in the day. He had a bunch of drops and
- 12:22Speaker 7: the trainers were like, hey, have you ever gotten your
- 12:23Speaker 7: eyes checked? And he had he had LASIK and he
- 12:27Speaker 7: was an All American in the first round of the
- 12:29Speaker 7: next year. Is that something you look for because we
- 12:31Speaker 7: you know, we were talking about baseball house and outfielders whatever,
- 12:34Speaker 7: maybe not seeing the ball as well as they off
- 12:36Speaker 7: the bat whatever. Is that something like proactively looking for
- 12:40Speaker 7: things in an athlete that they might not notice themselves.
- 12:44Speaker 6: Yeah, you know, I think we definitely look at all that,
- 12:47Speaker 6: you know. I think my my favorite example is always
- 12:49Speaker 6: a Ricky.
- 12:50Speaker 5: Vaughn the wild thing. Uh, you know once you guys
- 12:53Speaker 5: glasses made a big different. But uh, but but no,
- 12:57Speaker 5: we we do. We do look at it a lot,
- 12:58Speaker 5: you know.
- 12:59Speaker 6: I think I think think you know one from an injury,
- 13:02Speaker 6: you know, especially in a game setting. You know, after
- 13:06Speaker 6: you know, offense or defense comes off the field. I
- 13:08Speaker 6: make it a habit of kind of walking up and
- 13:10Speaker 6: down the bench. We're watching guys. So so the acute
- 13:13Speaker 6: injury phase, just looking as there's something, you know, and
- 13:14Speaker 6: obviously we're not trying to pull guys out that don't
- 13:17Speaker 6: need it, but also looking for something that we might
- 13:19Speaker 6: be able to catch. I think I think, you know,
- 13:22Speaker 6: a lot of times, if to be honest, you know,
- 13:24Speaker 6: I got to give a lot of the credit for
- 13:25Speaker 6: things like when guys pick up on some of the
- 13:27Speaker 6: vision things and things like that. A lot of times
- 13:29Speaker 6: that comes from our athletic trainers. You know, they do
- 13:31Speaker 6: such a good job and they're with these guys every
- 13:33Speaker 6: day that they'll sometimes see these subtle changes that maybe
- 13:37Speaker 6: I may not be aware of or that I might miss.
- 13:39Speaker 6: You know, obviously we're always looking for, you know, with eyesight.
- 13:42Speaker 6: Probably baseball does make the most sense as a sport,
- 13:44Speaker 6: you know, because at every position you're catching, you're you're
- 13:47Speaker 6: you're having to pitch, you're having to hit the ball.
- 13:49Speaker 6: So so I do think that's one that you probably
- 13:51Speaker 6: pay a little bit more attention. But like I said
- 13:54Speaker 6: on the on the on, the normal trainers are fantastic.
- 13:57Speaker 6: They do such a good job and the number of
- 13:59Speaker 6: times they have said something like, hey if you ever,
- 14:01Speaker 6: you know, do you ever think about checking so and
- 14:02Speaker 6: so for this, or hey can we order a you know,
- 14:04Speaker 6: a vision screening or a or whatever. Uh, you know,
- 14:07Speaker 6: I'd love to take some of the credit, but uh,
- 14:10Speaker 6: the reality of it is they're the ones that they
- 14:11Speaker 6: pick up especially the subtle little things, because they're with
- 14:13Speaker 6: the guys every day. So they are also the ones
- 14:15Speaker 6: that notice you know, like sometimes even like someone can concussion,
- 14:18Speaker 6: you know, they'll they'll be the ones that will tell me, like, hey,
- 14:20Speaker 6: so and so is just not acting like himself, or
- 14:22Speaker 6: or I might even ask him because sometimes a guy's
- 14:24Speaker 6: acting weird and like is this is normal? And they're like, oh, yeah,
- 14:26Speaker 6: he's always he's always noddball other times, you know.
- 14:31Speaker 5: So it's it's it's they're really helpful in those settings.
- 14:33Speaker 6: So again I think, obviously, yeah, we're gonna look for stuff,
- 14:35Speaker 6: We're gonna try and help out. We're gonna do things
- 14:38Speaker 6: not only to keep people safe, but if it can
- 14:40Speaker 6: potentially be something that will help their performance.
- 14:43Speaker 11: Uh.
- 14:43Speaker 6: And envision is one that we sometimes can make a
- 14:46Speaker 6: tremendous difference.
- 14:46Speaker 2: You know.

- 18:12Speaker 3: All right, welcome back in ot B here live from
- 18:15Speaker 3: the Raising Kanes Studio.
- 18:17Speaker 4: And if you've ever listened to any show and guaranteed.
- 18:20Speaker 3: Media, you know how big of a deal of Dreams
- 18:21Speaker 3: Come True of Louisiana is to our company and to
- 18:26Speaker 3: you know what we do here. And so we have
- 18:28Speaker 3: got Kelly in studio with us and we're going to
- 18:31Speaker 3: talk about dreams come true. We appreciate y'all coming in
- 18:34Speaker 3: this morning hanging out with us. No sorry that those
- 18:38Speaker 3: microphones you got to talk right into it. So Kelly,
- 18:41Speaker 3: just tell us a little bit about yourself.
- 18:44Speaker 10: So I am seventeen. I was just actually at a
- 18:49Speaker 10: Bailey and Bailey, Zimmerment and Creed concert Sunday night. And
- 18:54Speaker 10: I am a junior in high school. I will be
- 18:58Speaker 10: graduating next year.
- 19:01Speaker 15: What else?
- 19:01Speaker 14: What else?
- 19:02Speaker 4: I mean? You buried the lead? You are?
- 19:06Speaker 15: I had so much fun.
- 19:09Speaker 10: Let's see, Hm, you're I'm going into nursing school. Uh,
- 19:15Speaker 10: that's likely going to go to LSU's.
- 19:20Speaker 3: How long you've been like? Tell us kind of how
- 19:22Speaker 3: you found your way to work? When dreams come true?
- 19:28Speaker 15: Okay, the day after she was born, I had to
- 19:32Speaker 15: pull the code blue. She stopped breathing on me. That
- 19:34Speaker 15: kind of started our journey. She's seventeen, but she's had
- 19:38Speaker 15: eighty six hospital stays and so a lot of people
- 19:43Speaker 15: think dreams come true it's just about patients with cancer
- 19:47Speaker 15: things like that. But she is a life threatening illness,
- 19:50Speaker 15: and so it's any life threatening illness. They take these
- 19:53Speaker 15: kids and grant whatever they wish they want as long
- 19:57Speaker 15: as they're able to, they make it happen. And so
- 20:00Speaker 15: we learned about them from one of our nurses. One
- 20:04Speaker 15: of her nurses sent in the application for her, and
- 20:08Speaker 15: we met Miss Becky and we did our interview with
- 20:11Speaker 15: James and Miss Becky one hundred point seven to see
- 20:14Speaker 15: what her wish was. Yes, so she sat on the
- 20:18Speaker 15: floor because she was like five years old, And so
- 20:23Speaker 15: that started us with Dreams Come True?
- 20:25Speaker 2: Yeah, and Kelly, what was that wish?
- 20:28Speaker 15: I went to Disney World?
- 20:31Speaker 2: Okay? Is it the memory of Disney World and that
- 20:35Speaker 2: that wish? Is it? Do you do you remember it?
- 20:38Speaker 3: Do you?
- 20:39Speaker 10: I remember parts of it. I just don't remember like
- 20:41Speaker 10: all of it. But it was really fun from what
- 20:43Speaker 10: I was told.
- 20:44Speaker 7: Now, now, Mama, let me ask you real fast, what
- 20:47Speaker 7: did when you got started sent that application into Dreams
- 20:49Speaker 7: Come True?
- 20:50Speaker 2: The wish, the Disney World, just everything.
- 20:52Speaker 7: And at the time, I'm sure going of course, going
- 20:55Speaker 7: through a ton as a parent, What did dream Come
- 21:00Speaker 7: True mean to you?
- 21:01Speaker 2: At that time?
- 21:03Speaker 15: It gave us so just going there and being a
- 21:06Speaker 15: part of it. Besides getting to go to Disney, we
- 21:10Speaker 15: met so many families that have become a part of
- 21:12Speaker 15: our family, kids that can relate to her, maybe not
- 21:16Speaker 15: with the same thing, but with a life threatening illness.
- 21:18Speaker 15: And so they get this bond that's not like a
- 21:22Speaker 15: bond of any others because they understand each other, they
- 21:25Speaker 15: know the struggles, they talk about, the hospital stays. Sometimes
- 21:28Speaker 15: one will be at the hospital. We'll go in and
- 21:31Speaker 15: then they'll get discharged and we're getting we're going in
- 21:34Speaker 15: and so or vice versa and so. And then the
- 21:37Speaker 15: parents are able to bond because it's a different level
- 21:39Speaker 15: of bond because we're able to say, we're able to
- 21:42Speaker 15: vent to them and they know the struggle we're going
- 21:44Speaker 15: through and it's not just one of those oh, I
- 21:47Speaker 15: know what you're going through, but do you really like
- 21:50Speaker 15: that's right? And so it's just this separate type of
- 21:53Speaker 15: bond that you get. And when we went to Disney World,
- 21:56Speaker 15: it was like everything there was no cost for us
- 22:00Speaker 15: at all. I didn't spend anything. We stayed at give
- 22:05Speaker 15: kids the World, which they had a gift for even
- 22:09Speaker 15: my boys. Every day we got back to the room,
- 22:12Speaker 15: and so it was very special how they made it.
- 22:16Speaker 15: If she needed a break, there were first st aid
- 22:19Speaker 15: rooms that we could go to on each Disney property,
- 22:23Speaker 15: which made it very easy. And it was like we
- 22:25Speaker 15: didn't have all our worries of the hospital stays and
- 22:30Speaker 15: stuff like that. It was like that wasn't the focus
- 22:33Speaker 15: of this. We could actually have a good time, be
- 22:36Speaker 15: a family and just spend time together in this magical
- 22:39Speaker 15: place and it was just amazing.
- 22:41Speaker 3: And probably just escape and not a little even for
- 22:46Speaker 3: a little bit of time. And yeah, place like Disney.
- 22:50Speaker 3: It sounds like the concert might have been.
- 22:52Speaker 2: I think.
- 22:56Speaker 15: I was a little jealous of the Creed part.
- 23:00Speaker 3: Yeah, it's great to us, sir, and so that that's
- 23:04Speaker 3: great as well. But Kelly, what for for you? Like,
- 23:07Speaker 3: what has this journey been like for you? Working with
- 23:10Speaker 3: dreams come true? And you know, doing it for a
- 23:12Speaker 3: long time now.
- 23:13Speaker 10: So even with the hospital says they have these events
- 23:17Speaker 10: where like even if you're like not feeling good, they
- 23:22Speaker 10: will still bring you stuff, like no matter what, they
- 23:25Speaker 10: will sit there and like just hang out with you
- 23:29Speaker 10: until like you get better and stuff, and then they
- 23:31Speaker 10: check on you every time their events, like the Christmas event,
- 23:34Speaker 10: they get you the gifts that you write on a
- 23:37Speaker 10: paper and they get you that gift, and.
- 23:40Speaker 15: They they just do a lot.
- 23:42Speaker 4: And I'm sure you've met some other people probably.
- 23:46Speaker 3: Similar age to you too, that you've connected with and
- 23:48Speaker 3: been able to have a relationship.
- 23:50Speaker 10: With somewhat I have.
- 23:53Speaker 15: I met Gage.
- 23:53Speaker 4: The ages are like three to eighteen if I'm not mistaken.
- 23:56Speaker 4: So it's a little bit of everything.
- 23:58Speaker 10: Yeah, Gauge is one of my best friends who I
- 24:00Speaker 10: met through.
- 24:01Speaker 2: This nice awesome.
- 24:05Speaker 7: I think everybody listening knows the impact that Dreams Come
- 24:08Speaker 7: True again. Like Jake said, like, if you've listened to
- 24:11Speaker 7: this radio station at all, you've heard the Dreams Come
- 24:14Speaker 7: True stories. You know about it, and anybody listening to
- 24:18Speaker 7: that as a parent as well can also know what
- 24:21Speaker 7: great work that they do. Would y'all both say that
- 24:25Speaker 7: Dreams Come True has had an extremely powerful impact on
- 24:29Speaker 7: your life?
- 24:30Speaker 15: Yes, definitely, Mama, absolutely.
- 24:33Speaker 3: Yes, Yeah, I mean it's been how like you said
- 24:38Speaker 3: five years old? You said it's been twelve years, right,
- 24:41Speaker 3: you've been working with Dreams True.
- 24:43Speaker 15: That is so she's done like the golf tournaments and
- 24:46Speaker 15: the fashion show.
- 24:47Speaker 3: Because I was gonna I was going to ask you, like,
- 24:49Speaker 3: what are some of the events that y'all have been
- 24:50Speaker 3: able to be a part of.
- 24:52Speaker 15: She's done the golf tournament a couple of times, and
- 24:54Speaker 15: she's done the fashion show a few times. And I
- 24:58Speaker 15: think the fashion show she enjoys.
- 25:01Speaker 4: A lot, not the golf tournament.
- 25:04Speaker 15: The golf tournament she messes with the police officers, so yes,
- 25:08Speaker 15: she loves that.
- 25:09Speaker 3: Yeah, I would not be very good at the golf
- 25:11Speaker 3: golf tournament's more talking his language.
- 25:14Speaker 2: Yeah, it is a little. Yeah.
- 25:16Speaker 7: So there's a lot of ways to give and get

- 29:34Speaker 7: These are like I gotta tell you, these are things
- 29:36Speaker 7: I all all things that I knew at a certain
- 29:40Speaker 7: point in my life.
- 29:41Speaker 2: It's been a while since I've heard this one. Back
- 29:45Speaker 2: when the Box was playing, No doubt it was in
- 29:51Speaker 2: the box.
- 29:52Speaker 7: There's not a lot of people that I remember the
- 29:53Speaker 7: box because not every table situation had it.
- 29:59Speaker 2: We'll pay for play.
- 30:02Speaker 3: Nelly cuts, anybody, remember I don't know who that is?
- 30:06Speaker 15: Man.
- 30:07Speaker 7: The Box was at a TV station that you could
- 30:09Speaker 7: call in and like pay a dollar.
- 30:13Speaker 18: And they would play whatever you play.
- 30:16Speaker 4: Video that you wanted to see at the time.
- 30:19Speaker 3: And you're probably like, why didn't just go to YouTube
- 30:21Speaker 3: and type it in? There wasn't YouTube kids dial up
- 30:24Speaker 3: at the box. If you wanted to see Nelly's country grammar,
- 30:29Speaker 3: it'd pay a dollar to see it. If you didn't
- 30:33Speaker 3: know what a rain drover was until you saw that video,
- 30:37Speaker 3: like me.
- 30:38Speaker 14: What a legendary album 's?
- 30:39Speaker 4: How you do it? You could buy me sat great album.
- 30:50Speaker 2: I saw a.
- 30:53Speaker 3: Instagram deal where there was a youth, and she thought
- 30:58Speaker 3: she had come up with the greatest idea.
- 31:00Speaker 4: Of all time.
- 31:02Speaker 3: She's like, you know, sometimes when you're in your house,
- 31:05Speaker 3: like you don't have your cell phone on you, like
- 31:07Speaker 3: someone it's in another room or whatever. She's like, what if,
- 31:10Speaker 3: like there could be this phone that you had and
- 31:14Speaker 3: it had its own certain number, and you put it
- 31:17Speaker 3: in like the middle of the house, somewhere in the house.
- 31:20Speaker 3: So if you didn't have your cell phone, you could
- 31:22Speaker 3: put this phone anywhere in your house and it would
- 31:24Speaker 3: ring when somebody called it exactly. That's what she was
- 31:29Speaker 3: getting to and she thought she'd come up with this invention.
- 31:33Speaker 3: Swear to god, I thought she had come up with
- 31:36Speaker 3: this invention of well, when you forget your cell phone
- 31:39Speaker 3: in another room, but somebody really needs to get a
- 31:42Speaker 3: hold of you. I think she was a babysitter and
- 31:44Speaker 3: she was talking about if the parents really need to
- 31:46Speaker 3: get you, but your phone's in the other room, Like,
- 31:48Speaker 3: what if there was this phone in the middle of
- 31:50Speaker 3: the house that would ring and it had a different
- 31:53Speaker 3: number than your cell phone?
- 31:55Speaker 2: What's her name? Alexandroid Graham Bell joke?

- 32:22Speaker 18: You've been driving on.
- 32:22Speaker 14: Later, I don't care what people say.
- 32:24Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I'm gonna be proud of that one. Later.
- 32:28Speaker 4: Hey, babe, let me rewind to show you today. Jay
- 32:34Speaker 4: was telling a story about a phone.
- 32:36Speaker 2: You're never gonna believe it.
- 32:38Speaker 14: I really would. Let me guess, Alexandra Graham Bell.
- 32:41Speaker 2: Yeah, I've told you, and this is why it's funny.
- 32:47Speaker 2: Well explained it to you.
- 32:48Speaker 14: It's gonna go back on YouTube and show her at
- 32:52Speaker 14: this segment.
- 32:53Speaker 2: That's probably when the awards around here people not us,
- 32:57Speaker 2: but other people.
- 33:00Speaker 18: Actually we don't get nominate.
- 33:03Speaker 3: We're gonna put you against Murphy, Sam and Jody, and
- 33:05Speaker 3: we're gonna go against uh, you know that sports show
- 33:08Speaker 3: from Leesville?
- 33:13Speaker 4: All right, cool and Jody. We are in like nine states.
- 33:18Speaker 18: When you cover the Wampus Cats. Okay, right, you're bound
- 33:21Speaker 18: to win some awards.
- 33:22Speaker 3: Singer shout out to Key singer Kevin Maway and Cecil
- 33:25Speaker 3: the Diesel Let's Go, and almost Vincent Jackson he left
- 33:30Speaker 3: right before high school.
- 33:32Speaker 19: All I'm gonna say is nobody else is investigating high
- 33:34Speaker 19: Point University the way we are. No nobody's asking the
- 33:42Speaker 19: real questions about high Point.
- 33:43Speaker 2: But us j'all know what a wampus cat is.
- 33:47Speaker 18: I'm gonna say, very similar to like a bobcat.
- 33:50Speaker 14: I was thinking more like a prairie dog or something.
- 33:53Speaker 7: It's a legendary fearsome creature from Appalachian folklore, often described
- 34:00Speaker 7: as large, panther like feeline with glowing yellow or green eyes,
- 34:04Speaker 7: sometimes possessing six legs.
- 34:07Speaker 14: This is not what I thought it looked like at all.
- 34:10Speaker 4: Can you pull it up?
- 34:10Speaker 3: Because I have thought I thought it was cool to
- 34:13Speaker 3: say wampus cats, but I never really did my research.
- 34:16Speaker 2: Yep, there you go. It's known to be a whistler,
- 34:22Speaker 2: that behavior causing terror in the woods.
- 34:25Speaker 4: Whistle like the old man from Whistler.
- 34:27Speaker 2: And the guy.
- 34:29Speaker 19: Herbert.
- 34:30Speaker 14: Oh, no, Herbert, the old man, Herbert, the old.
- 34:34Speaker 18: Man, you know that guy six legs.
- 34:38Speaker 4: Guys, Wow, that is not anything what I thought.
- 34:44Speaker 2: I mean, I would fear that.
- 34:45Speaker 3: I mean, I was years walking up through that things
- 34:48Speaker 3: standing out two back legs for sure. Look at those
- 34:51Speaker 3: and coming at you with four arms. Look at those traps.
- 34:55Speaker 18: He does have insane Michael Ford, Yeah, shout.
- 34:58Speaker 4: Out Michael Yeah, raw dog, no gloves.
- 35:03Speaker 7: Can you imagine that animal just whistling around, walking around
- 35:05Speaker 7: the woods in the mountains.
- 35:07Speaker 18: I'd be scared.
- 35:09Speaker 2: The mountains of Leesville.
- 35:12Speaker 14: I thought they were.
- 35:14Speaker 3: But Leesville is the wamp Is Cat, So yeah, surely
- 35:17Speaker 3: they have one walking around.
- 35:18Speaker 2: Obviously someone from Appalachia. They came down. They founded Leesville
- 35:25Speaker 2: High Here, here's a.
- 35:26Speaker 18: School from Conway, Arkansas. They have an actual.
- 35:31Speaker 4: Shout out to Conway. My mom used to live in
- 35:34Speaker 4: Conway for a little bit.
- 35:35Speaker 7: I gotta say the more I look at statues, the
- 35:39Speaker 7: harder in my brain it is to make a statue
- 35:43Speaker 7: that looks good.
- 35:44Speaker 4: Or when I look at a statue, I'm thinking the
- 35:46Speaker 4: bar is pretty low if that's what.
- 35:47Speaker 2: You do for a living.
- 35:50Speaker 14: Yeah, like you have.
- 35:52Speaker 4: There's so many bad ones out there.
- 35:53Speaker 2: I think at some point you could just start three
- 35:55Speaker 2: D printing these stat Probably what was.
- 35:57Speaker 14: The terrible one that everybody or not that one did.
- 36:02Speaker 2: One recently with a broken bat.
- 36:03Speaker 4: Yeah, Tom Brady's was kind of weird.
- 36:05Speaker 14: Yeah, the Tom Brady Wars was the basketball.
- 36:08Speaker 4: Allen Iverson, No, everybody was laughing in the car.
- 36:11Speaker 2: Dwayne Wade, Yes, it was that one.
- 36:13Speaker 4: Yeah. Alan Iverson's was bad too because it was miniature.
- 36:15Speaker 7: Yeah, it was like this big is awful. Yeah, at
- 36:18Speaker 7: least the Mariners. Recently they did a statue for each
- 36:22Speaker 7: row and that was broken. Oh yeah, and I think
- 36:24Speaker 7: they they leaned into it. The Mariners did and they
- 36:27Speaker 7: I don't think it was real, but they did a
- 36:29Speaker 7: fake like statue giveaway and it was broken bat and everything.
- 36:33Speaker 14: So it's so.
- 36:36Speaker 18: Taste pulling up the d Wade Okay, he looks like
- 36:39Speaker 18: sloped from goonies.
- 36:43Speaker 7: Look at Dwayne, he looks like he's one hundred and
- 36:49Speaker 7: five to he does look old like it's actually like
- 36:52Speaker 7: the details, like the jersey and everything actually really good.
- 36:55Speaker 18: Oh somebody, somebody else did the face.
- 36:58Speaker 2: The hands are good, My hands are hordps good.
- 37:01Speaker 14: What happened on the face.
- 37:03Speaker 18: I bet one professional did this. They had to take
- 37:06Speaker 18: a day off and they're like, hey, can you do
- 37:07Speaker 18: the face for me?
- 37:08Speaker 4: He's like yeah, got oh do y'all remember when the
- 37:11Speaker 4: Washington Redskins. That's who they were.
- 37:12Speaker 2: I was about to relax.
- 37:14Speaker 3: Did Sean Taylor's Oh yeah, they were like, we're gonna
- 37:17Speaker 3: do something like one for Sean Taylor.
- 37:19Speaker 4: And it was literally just like wires with a helmet and.
- 37:23Speaker 7: Yeah, you just say the Washington Redskin. That was their
- 37:28Speaker 7: name when they made the statue.
- 37:30Speaker 4: How damn, I'm a factual. That was their name when
- 37:34Speaker 4: the statue was made.
- 37:35Speaker 14: I'm writing a letter.
- 37:37Speaker 18: And but like so many people showed up to have
- 37:40Speaker 18: an unveiled statue, they pulled this off. It's also inside
- 37:43Speaker 18: the stadium they unveil. It's behind glass like it looks
- 37:47Speaker 18: like you show it off a new UNI that you.
- 37:50Speaker 14: The word statue is doing some real heavy lifting.
- 37:52Speaker 18: That's at the stadium, right, Yeah, the legs, no face,
- 37:56Speaker 18: just a helmet, jersey.
- 37:57Speaker 7: They have another display in the stadium that has Jade
- 38:00Speaker 7: Daniels rookie black Finite car.
- 38:03Speaker 4: Yeah, it's by far did you ever play there?
- 38:07Speaker 2: Uh one, that's by far the most couple times.
- 38:09Speaker 4: That's the by far the most expensive thing in that dump.
- 38:12Speaker 3: Yeah, don't that place sucks? The place is awful. That's
- 38:16Speaker 3: me playing at Qualcom most of my career.
- 38:18Speaker 7: Yeah, your place wasn't It wasn't great. It wasn't that
- 38:21Speaker 7: much better. I'm agreeing ad places. Now, y'all had to
- 38:25Speaker 7: play in Oakland, like Oakland's a terrible. We had to
- 38:28Speaker 7: play on the infield a lot too.
- 38:30Speaker 2: They didn't. We couldn't practice there in training camp.
- 38:34Speaker 8: In that.
- 38:36Speaker 7: The A's had to move where they were playing because
- 38:39Speaker 7: the main sewage line busted in the stadium and there
- 38:43Speaker 7: was just pooh everywhere.
- 38:45Speaker 4: Not pooh.
- 38:46Speaker 7: Yeah, they had the pooh everywhere. Well it's a shoot situation,
- 38:51Speaker 7: real crappy situation. Shoe fits, you know what I'm saying.
- 38:55Speaker 3: We would play there and it was, you know, early
- 38:57Speaker 3: in the season, so the A's were still playing there,
- 38:59Speaker 3: so we'd have to play on the infield.
- 39:00Speaker 4: It was rock hard, rocks all in the dirt. You're like,
- 39:04Speaker 4: what cleats do I wear?
- 39:07Speaker 10: Right?
- 39:07Speaker 3: Like, if I like, what am I doing here? Do
- 39:08Speaker 3: I wear like molded rubber cleats? If you got tackled
- 39:12Speaker 3: on that infield, it was brutal. Now, the Dolphins still
- 39:15Speaker 3: did it too if you played them early in the year.
- 39:17Speaker 3: It's where the Marlins played before they had their own thing.
- 39:20Speaker 3: The same situation. But I think five times in my career.
- 39:24Speaker 3: I played on infields in the National Football League, which
- 39:26Speaker 3: is wild.
- 39:27Speaker 18: Know you did Oakland and San fran at least once.
- 39:30Speaker 3: Yeah, well we played Sam Frane every preseason and so
- 39:33Speaker 3: they were in the thick of their baseball season.
- 39:37Speaker 2: Yep, it's brutal. I was.
- 39:39Speaker 18: Matt said that's what he liked best about Oakland was
- 39:41Speaker 18: the the infield on the football field.
- 39:44Speaker 2: I would.
- 39:46Speaker 7: I like the pooh smell everywhere. I like just overall safety.
- 39:50Speaker 7: I felt doing anything.
- 39:52Speaker 2: It was just nice.
- 39:53Speaker 7: It's a good time. Definitely didn't celebrate and like life
- 39:57Speaker 7: and I had a nice dinner of the day I
- 39:58Speaker 7: got cut, never excited about I was so happy.
- 40:03Speaker 2: I was so so happy.
- 40:05Speaker 7: I also shocked, like everything he kind of like spiraled
- 40:08Speaker 7: down and thought it was gonna be the starter. But
- 40:10Speaker 7: then like that was a little you know, shocked for
- 40:12Speaker 7: a second. But then it was like, oh, oh, Leah,
- 40:16Speaker 7: we get to leave. I get to leave this place.
- 40:20Speaker 4: You know, I'm in two great cities, one bad stadium.
- 40:24Speaker 4: Denver was great. Denver, like the locker room even in
- 40:26Speaker 4: Denver was awesome.
- 40:28Speaker 2: I don't remember it, but.
- 40:29Speaker 3: Mister Bowen, I like that family, like they took care
- 40:33Speaker 3: of you. I was like, I was surprised, like how
- 40:37Speaker 3: involved he was. Travel was awesome, hotels were awesome, mills
- 40:42Speaker 3: were awesome.
- 40:44Speaker 2: Was awesome.
- 40:45Speaker 4: Well, I didn't say that. You said that it was
- 40:47Speaker 4: great until he wasn't.
- 40:50Speaker 2: Talented?
- 40:52Speaker 8: Uh?
- 40:53Speaker 4: Anywhos you think?
- 40:55Speaker 2: What if you saw John right now, y'all be all right? Yeah,
- 40:57Speaker 2: would be good.
- 40:58Speaker 4: It's been it's been you know, it's been a while.
- 41:00Speaker 4: While it's been a while, I'll probably say something to him.
- 41:04Speaker 7: But I mean, you gotta carry a little bit of
- 41:06Speaker 7: a chip, a little bit everybody does. Yeah, I want
- 41:08Speaker 7: to be successful in life, you have to carry some
- 41:10Speaker 7: sort of chip.
- 41:11Speaker 2: On your shoulder.
- 41:11Speaker 4: Yeah, masking where the rent money is that I had
- 41:13Speaker 4: to pay for a year in a house because he
- 41:15Speaker 4: told me I made the team?
- 41:17Speaker 2: Yep?
- 41:18Speaker 4: Where's a tuition that I paid up front?
- 41:19Speaker 2: Yep?
- 41:20Speaker 4: For the kids to go to school after you told
- 41:21Speaker 4: me I made the team?
- 41:22Speaker 2: Ye tell them? Nice five head? Yep? I was body shamed,
- 41:29Speaker 2: John Lway.
