I've never even I didn't even realize that was a thing I would have like Yeah. I I was beating myself up because there was something that Ticketmaster had done to like be able to buy tickets. Yep. But they were full price and I missed that day and I was like beating myself up. Now you the scalper's gonna Yeah five times them. So I did this one. Okay, so there's that. And then yesterday, my oldest daughter loves Snoopy. Mm-hmm. Ever since she was little, she's loved Snoopy. And she keeps sending me these reels on the Snoopy cup that's coming out at Starbucks. Yes. And I'm like that they're like the bare ones that everyone goes insane. Insane. Which I don't get it. But I mean it's a cute cup, but I'm not gonna wait around for one. Not from one o'clock. In the morning? One o'clock in the morning. So I had yesterday morning, she goes, the Snoopy Cup comes out today. I'm like, There I'm not gonna like you can't get one. They're probably already sold out, six AM. Yeah. She's like, yeah, you're right, blah, blah, blah. So I went to a doctor's appointment and I have a fear of the doctor. Hate going to the doctor. Did it, did fine. I'm gonna buy myself a little treat. I'm gonna go get myself a pumpkin spice latte. Okay. So I'm driving. The best. I'm driving. I'm like, you know, I'm just gonna go in. I never go in. Yeah. Drive through all the way. I'm gonna go in just to see if they have this Snoopy. It's like you had a little yeah little birdie in your ear being Yeah. So I drive down, but mine it's like nine AM at this point. Yeah. It's been f a while. I go in, I pull up, I go inside, I'm looking at something, this lady comes up behind me and I I say, Go ahead of me. Yeah. And she's like, Are you sure? I'm like, Yeah, go ahead of me. So I go, she goes ahead. And then I go up, I make my order, and I ask, Do you have any of the Snoopy cups? And she goes, No, we sold out like instantly. People were were like camping on the sidewalk from one o'clock in the morning, like still I don't get it. This little woman, old lady behind me, goes, I happened to go into Target this morning when they opened and I saw one, so I I bought it because of it was like a hype thing. Then my daughter got upset that I only bought one and not four, because I have four grandkids. Do you want it? First of all, how pissed is her daughter gonna be when she tells her literally she literally goes, Well, she was mad that I had one. Now I got none. Good for her though. Like it's like that's also one of those things you can't just take four of them. I think it's like one it's one per person. You can't get four of them. So don't get I mean, at least she got it. I would have like, Thanks, Mama. Like tell them to share. But actually, screw with that, bitch, because you got it for your daughter. Like, my gosh, my daughter is gonna Yeah, she did. She actually she got him. she was really a I got a hug. What I know. Wow. know. All you gotta do is find a, you know, exclusive Starbucks Snoopy Cup to get She goes, How did you find and I told her the story. It was just like this series of events. Yeah. Right. Just so good. Yeah. That's my that's my fun story. I love it. Yeah. That is amazing. Well, it's a good one. I wish I had something fun like that, but I don't I don't think I do. Pure fucking chaos over here. Chaos. We're about to leave for a trip and then do my daughter's birthday party and I just feel like I'm running around like a chicken with my cut off. What's new? feel like you are. I am. What what's new? Honestly what's new. But you're gonna be on a houseboat soon. I'm on a boat, motherfucker. Don't you ever going on a boat? Very different songs. Yep. Very different songs. I wasn't really singing a bo a song, but it was just you're just saying I'm on a boat. Yeah. Yeah. I have two boat songs. One is I'm on a boat, which is by Lonely Island boys who were like, do you know who they are? Yeah I do. But then the other one is Boats and Hoes from Step Brothers. So, like either way, my my boat songs are very inappropriate. Very I mean, I have other boat songs, I'm sure. Redneck Yacht Club. That'll be happening. I'm very excited about it. So, you know, I'm gonna make sure So just make it through these next few days. And then to go sit on a boat. Yeah. I did just get a DM from the Chug Roulette people. They sent me this like shotgun yeah, would it be a shot it's not a shotgun, like it's like a pistol. It's like a revolver type pistol that they want me to do another video or something. And I was like, I wanna say no because they were kind of idiots to work with. Yeah. But we are gonna be bringing it to go do a redneck party on the boat. So I'm like, Well, if we're already gonna be out there in mullets, I may as well get paid for it. You gotta play the new Macklemore song. Have you played that? No, I haven't. Bill's gonna hate it. I love it. I didn't I sent it to you last night. I didn't see it. Wait, where? the neighborhood the neighborhood. That one I saw it and I went to open it and then I was trying not to be on my phone this morning. social media. You don't listen to it around the children's eyes. I did. I did. But it's Brava. Yeah. Macklemore. I still I just found the videos of his daughter and c my middle daughter meeting each other at Disneyland. See each other there wearing matching Disney dresses and they like literally saw each other from across a restaurant and walked towards each other and we were like, my God. And then McLamore's taking pictures of our child and his child. Wild. My favorite part is he looks at you and sees you videoing and his face just goes and we relax away. No, we didn't walk away. He stayed. he did? he walked away. And text was like standing next to him. And so he actually stood there for a little while and then then we never went up to him, but then people started going up to him and they left early, which was really sad because he was there with his kids. Like, leave him alone. Right, leave him be. let them have a moment. Let them have a moment. All right. You want to joke? I do. This is from our unofficial joke writer. He texted this yesterday and I kind of hate it. Because it has my child's name in it, but Okay. Anyways. why was Princess Leia disappointed on her wedding night? Why? Because Hans shot first. Han. Hans? Han? Han. Hans solo. Han solo. I think it's Han. Han. H A N. Han. I thought it was Hans. Mmm. I said Hans, but then I think I said it wrong. Han Han? Texas literally. Han. Texas yelling out. Screaming right now. god. It is Han solo. I thought it was Hans Solo. Yeah. No. It's not. Mm. Okay. Hmm. Well, hello and welcome to Lunatic Soup, the podcast where we go into all things wild, weird, unknown. We're your host, Meg. And I'm Raina. Ready to rip some lun Lunatic Soup. Let's go. I think we both fudged up a little bit on that. It it is what it we're rolling with it today. Yes. We are rolling. We are. So we have two ciders that I don't know which have we had either of these on air? We've had prickly pear. On air? Mm. I feel like we've o I've only ever had it down there that I think of. my Maybe maybe not on air. I don't think we've had Teton Huckleberry. So which one do you want to do? I want to do the Huckleberry. Yeah, that's what I figured. I there's still time. Yeah. We've got we're fine. Yeah. so this is the Huckleberry Hard Cider from Teton, six point nine percent. Teton is in I don't know, it they have not been our favorite in the past, I believe. They're hit or miss. they can have no, I'm thinking two towns. No, you're thinking two towns. They have the fun The fun cans. Yeah. Two Town says. And this one, I feel like there's some good ones, but then we've had I wanna say T Town was the the Blackberry stinky socks. No, not the stinky socks. That one was the where it smelled like gym socks. This is maybe that was the the one from up north Bellingham. I think I thought so. I could be totally wrong. I feel like I gotta find I gotta find which episode it was and I wanna know. All right. Well we gotta See if we I don't think we can get down to incline cider house because they're shut and closing. I know I was really excited to do their candy and I know but we'll go to Fierce because Fierce does it. they do? I think they did last year. Okay. We didn't do Fierce and they just debuted a new pumpkin. It's not Guardians of the Galaxy, it's a new one. They are the only place that I really like pumpkin cider from. Well, the new one this year, how is it? I haven't tried it yet. I was waiting for you. I thought it was gonna be I thought it was gonna taste like cranberry juice. But it's really not that s like it is sweet, but it's like tart, like a like a huckleberry. I like it. Me too. I'm big fan. Big fan. All right, so so Fierce has two new ciders. One is called Boysin Boys in the Hood. Mm-hmm. The Boysenberry Cinnamon. I like Boysenberry. I'm not sure so sure about it would have to be very subtle. Cinnamon Cinnamon. I like the name. Boys in the hood. Boys Boys in the Hood. And then they had a new pumpkin one. I can't find it right now, but it was it was a different pumpkin. It wasn't the Guardian of the Gor Guardian of the Galaxy Guardian of the Galaxy. Guardian of the Galaxy. Good names. Solid names. Solid names. Well, yay, I'm excited. Yeah, we'll have to go down there. After maybe after all of our trips. Yeah, maybe. Maybe. Maybe. Possibly. Mm-hmm. We'll We'll find out. We don't know. Guys. I don't know. Guys, come on. I'm actually already a little bit like Fault's gonna just it hasn't even technically My sister and I just had this conversation yesterday. We were talking or two days ago. She was like, I need two Septembers. Mm-hmm. Like it is time she's like, at once you get to this age, time is flying by so fast. And she doesn't even have teenagers yet. No. And that's what I feel like too. I'm like it's the month is too short. I I agree. We need two Septembers and and two Octobers. Yeah. And then at least. And then or or just like An extra two weeks of both. Like an in between. Yes, like an between. Like an after September but before October, we need like like something. Another month. Right now would be great for the holiday season. You know? Yeah. Ugh. I agree. 'Cause I'm not ready for all of it. That's it. That's what it is. That's what it feels like. All right. Well, today we're talking about your favorite subject. Okay. The demon of Brownsville Road. The eye roll she just gave me. I'm sorry. That's okay. It's fine. I'm not gonna say anything. No, she's not. But I can I know what she's thinking. Because we discussed this last time that I'm s fucking over demons. Mm-hmm. Cause it fucks up. I'm not editing this episode. I will edit this episode. It's but it's this one's not a demon. You'll see, it's not a demon. Okay, then why are we calling it a demon? I don't know, it sounds better. I'm gonna create a new name. located at three four six Brownsville Road in Brentwood, Pennsylvania. There's a large twentieth century brick home with a it's like it's pretty. It's got a very commanding presence. Los locals often describe it as beautiful but unsettling. Mm-hmm. There it is. It's very beautiful. it is beautiful, but it's a beautiful home. I could see how it's unsettling too. It it's one of those that I look at is a gorgeous home. It's actually like stunning. But I no no no. So Bob Cranmer Grew up in this area, loved this home his entire life. As a boy, he would walk past the house daily and just felt this pull towards it. He later said that he felt like the house waited for him. Mm-hmm. Bob purchased the home in nineteen eighty-eight, and one former resident cryptically warned him, I could tell you some stories, and then left. Okay. Didn't elaborate at all. So We gotta talk about the land, honey. The land. So we're going back. We're going back to the land. Because the house was built in the early 1900s. Okay. But the land had a lot of issues. I mean early 1900s is still. It's still pretty old. So by the time they got there, it was like 80 years old. Okay. In March n 1792, around dinosaur time. Just dinosaur Just around just around the Just around the age of the dinosaur. I'm bringing it back. Bring it back. Bring it back. As long as everyone knows I know. She knows. I know. She knows. But it's also really funny. And I kinda loved the bit. So funny the last time I laughed that hard I fell off my dinosaur. Shut the fuck up. Does that mean it wasn't funny? Because that means you haven't laughed that hard. Wait, yeah, that means it means it's not It just means it's not funny, right? Wasn't that a little reverse? huh. Y you did that on purpose now, didn't you? Sure did. From stepbrothers. Have you not heard me say that before? Yes, I have. I say it all the time to my kids. And they're like, what the hell? man. Well, they don't hi. so 1792, a mother and her three young children were killed by a native tribe in that vicinity during the Northwest Indian War. Okay. And this was done to discourage, like, you know, Western Pennsylvania and Ohio settlements, which happened a a lot. because, you know, people don't like their homes taken away. Yeah. And not justifying that, but you know they don't like they don't like it. So there was this big push of immigration into western Pennsylvania and they clashed with the natives and there was a huge war that broke out. And it is said that this mother and her three children were killed on the land and at least one of them was buried on the property itself. Okay. And we don't have any actual like evidence of that, but it's from an oral history that said like through the area that that is where there's a birth burial. Yeah. And they don't they don't know who it is. They assume it's from this family. Okay. But this is just it's an oral history. There's nothing like no historical documents or anything like that. This is something that we talk about a lot when there is violence, when there is a horrible event happening. It marks the land. Yeah. And that's when we get stone tape theory and bad things can happen. Yeah. Stone tape theory is my favorite theory, honestly, because it's just I feel like it can explain a lot. And I don't know if this like explicitly is the definition of stone tape theory because that is like a replay, right? Right. This is more of an active situation. That's so it's not stone tape theory. But something bad happened on the land and something came in because of that. So is it stone tape theory? Is that an aspect of it? Or the bad thing creates something? It could be the bad thing created something or yeah. I don't think it's stone tape theory because stone tape theory is a replay. A replay. It's a recording of something that happened on the land. It's the land replaying that over and over. Yeah. The this something horrific happened and it lowered like the energy of the land there is and allowed something to come in. That's where I'm going. You got the words. My words just couldn't come out. But I I was trying to figure out how to get there. Was it I really like this Huckleberry. Me too. This is delicious. It's not like I don't even need lime in it. I feel like from a tap, that would be really nice. And it is it like smells like cranberry juice. That's what I thought it was gonna taste like at first. I was like, but it's I really delicious. I'm a big fan. I think there's no flavor on the one that we're gonna drink on Halloween. it's got ghost face on on it. But I think it's more of a cranberry one. Okay. Which I'm fine with. I like that. Throw some fireball in it we need to. I'm in fireball. Why not? Make a slut whore. Ooh. Ooh. An angry slut whore. An angry slut. A ghosty slut whore. I mean, let's do it. Let's fuck it up. Fast forward to the early 1900s and the house started being built. They started developing the area, building all these homes, and during construction A worker allegedly placed a curse on the property after a dispute, and the story had been passed on from neighbors for generations to generations. Okay. The home itself is kind of weird. There's narrow hallways, a basement with strange structural choices, and a room later dubbed the passion room. Okay. Which investigators identified as a hot spot for activity. I could not find anything else. As to why this was called the passion room. Okay. Because to me When I hear Someone's bringing in a bin. I was like, what is that noise? It's a bin. The bins. It's a bin. Someone's bringing in the bins. The garbage bin. The wheelie bins. The wheelie bins. If you will. Yeah. when I hear passion room, I get a very distinct, if you will, yes. Image. Yes. Yes, of what that might entail. Okay. I'm not sure if that's what they mean. I don't think that's what they mean, but but I mean that's what I think of too. Yeah. Like a sex room. A sex room. Yeah. You ever go through like the Zillow listings and all this picture? I don't go through them, but it's like people will like I follow this one account who finds like the most unhinged houses that like are listed. Blood stains, yeah, jail in the basement. Or they're like or like this, yeah, a hidden room or like a clearly it was like a dinosaur house here in Washington that's got like that's got like dinosaur models everywhere, like life size ones. My cousin Helen would love that. They would. And then we can learn about the dinosaurs. Sure can. I'm good. Would you like me to stop beating that dead horse? I don't really care about that. Because it's not learning about I was just saying when it was. That's true. That's true. But you know You were just off by a couple of I love it. I love But it was a joke. Anyways, continue. Excuse you. Guys, she's coughing. She's gonna be. I think I inhaled a fruit fly, honestly. What? Extra protein. Stop. Now you're gonna make me gag. Anyways. even before the cranmers lived there, neighbors mentioned strange noises and lights coming from the home. Several families lived in the house before the craners, but none stayed very long. One owner reportedly kept certain rooms closed off. But gave no explanation as to why. Okay. So the house was built between nineteen nine and nineteen ten, had three previous owners. In December nineteen eighty eight, Bob and his wife Lisa Cranmer bought the house when he was transferred to Pittsburgh by his employer. He's from the area, worked elsewhere, and came back. And when he came back, he wanted to purchase his dream home because as a little boy, he'd see the house, he loved it, he wanted to go in there. As soon as they came back into town, the house went up for sale the same week. So he's like so he just loved the craftsman style of it and he always felt pulled to it. The house later did become a Pittsburgh Pitts Pittsburgh? Pittsburgh historical site. So it's it's like it's gonna stay there for a while because of its unique design and it's old and all that. I mean again beautiful. It is beautiful. Bob and Lisa married in 1980, came back into town, wanted the house, and they were able to buy it. Kind of no questions asked. They just made it. They had four children Jessica four, Bobby three, David two, and Charles two months. Jesus. Well, that'll mess you up, anyways, because that's a lot of kids, a lot of life. Uh-huh. Bob Cranmer said that the seller seemed really anxious to move out and accepted his first visit. Pretty low ball offer without any negotiations. Uh-oh. Row. During the walkthrough of the house, their young son Bobby, who was three at the time, wandered off by himself and went to the basement. He they found him and on this he was kind of sitting on the staircase crying and hyperventilating. Mm-hmm. His mom said, You look like you've seen a ghost. Weird. Weird. Did he? and they don't know. They couldn't get him to calm down long enough to say what had happened. Lisa later on would say that she had some misgivings about the house, that she thought it was too big and it she said gave her the creeps. Okay. Bob Why are you buying it? Bob discounted all of this because it was the house of his dreams. He wanted it. He didn't care. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. He did, however, ask the owner if there was, quote, anything wrong with the house. Uh-huh. the owner understood exactly what he was asking. And instead of just replying, Yeah, everything's fine, he replied, Don't worry. It's fine. They hold a Catholic Mass here several times. They've held a Catholic Mass here several times. So he the owner responded. knowing that he was asking a question about the spiritual aspects of the home. Okay. Because the house gave his wife the creeps. Yeah. Bob was like, Okay. Okay. But bought it anyway. Okay. a few months after buying the house he was doing some yard work and he found a small metal box buried in the front yard containing Catholic religious items. He called the previous owner and the previous owner said the house was fine, just put it back where you found it. Doesn't sound like it. And that's a very like burying things is like a cat I have a lot of Catholic family. Like if you want to sell the house, you have to bury I've seen like you know, you lay it upside down in the front yard. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. So there's a lot of things like that. So I mean, I have things buried in my yard for like protection and stuff. Me too. So around the house. Mm-hmm. within weeks of moving in, Bob and Lisa began to experience paranormal activity in the house. Mm-hmm. The first thing they experienced was the pull chain on the light of the clo coat closet that would continually wrap itself around the light and would never stay down. Okay. They'd pull it down, they'd leave it, and then she'd go to pull it down again and it was all wrapped and twisted. Yeah. And it was just it was more like annoying, like are the kids playing with this? Right. But it happened all the time. Soon after other activity began to continue for years. The family just chose to ignore it, accepting that they shared a home with a what they called a spirit. Okay. Bob would go on to hold political office in the 1990s as first councilman and then county commissioner, which means people knew who he was, right? He wasn't some unknown person. Things continued to escalate. Items would shift overnight, chairs would be dragged across the floor, small objects disappeared and reappeared in odd places. They heard heavy footsteps through the hallways when no one was upstairs. They would hear knocking on the doors and windows when no one was around and then started hearing knocking from inside doors. Mm-hmm. And they'd go and check and no one nobody was there. No thanks. They often heard like three knocks, which is supposed to mock the holy trim trinity in demonology. Okay. What about this is not demon? The family would hear sounds of a woman crying or moaning from empty rooms. Okay. The smell of sulfur, which is Sometimes referred to as in demon cases, would appear and vanish within seconds. A tall column like shadow moved with intent through the house, often appearing in the hallway and outside the children's bedrooms. Mm-hmm. and it they tried to ignore it. And they tried to ignore it, and it kept getting worse. So a few years into it, in the mid-1990s, the family members woke up to scratches, bruises, and bite marks. Wow. They would have religious objects around the house like crucifixes, rosaries, and holy water. Like the crucifixes would be bent, the rosaries would be snapped, and the holy water would and evaporate unnaturally fast. The most disturbing thing that happened was the walls would ooze a reddish fluid and it just seemed to seep through the walls in the dining room and stairwell. And it wasn't just the them that witnessed this. Friends would come over and witness it. This is some extra shit. Rooms dropped to freezing temperatures even in this summer and lights flickered, clocks stops and stopped, and electronics would malfunction. Okay. Old pipes? Yeah. Old pipes. The look she's giving me, you guys. She she mad. Whoa, I'm I anyways. If people start levitating I'm out. wait, I think there's a fruit fly. A fruit fly in my drink. Hold tight. Is it? Or is it a bubble? I thought I had a fruit fly and it was a bubble. It's a bubble. Two of them just flying around. It's a bubble. Right now, driving me nuts. Freaking out one thing I'm happy about with winter, the fruit flies. They're gone. I know. I've been combating them left, right, and center in our house. But it's 'cause our garbage can is out here and so they were in because I will I one my daughter, the youngest one, had something in her room. no. huh. no. Had in his in a bag that she tied up, not well. She hid it in her like under her vanity thing. And one day I like, Smells weird in here. There's something. I don't know because when I opened it, so many fruit flies fell out fell out that I shut it. And then ever since then we've had a serious situation with Anyway, so I think it came from that. I hate fruit flies. These either the fucking worse. This like earlier this this is actually last Friday. I lost my shit. I like actually was like, I'm gonna burn the house down. I've so but I was so Time to move. Kids, man. Can't move right now. Can't sell anything, can't afford to buy anything. It's okay. We have we have beautiful homes and we are lucky to have them. Yeah. I want to redo my kitchen. Okay. Mm-hmm. I want a different house, but it's fine. I mean same, but I can't afford it. Life is life in U.S. My stupid husband yesterday when I was saying like we just need more space, blah blah blah, he goes, Well, you have to understand this is the most crammed it'll be because in a couple of years I said do not finish that thong. Also it's literally that in a couple years okay. But no. No. Mm-hmm. Mm-mm. Mm mm. Two of the Cranmer children were hospitalized for phys psychological trauma. They reported nightmares, visions, and feelings of being watched. Over the years, the Cranmer family became increasingly dysfunctional, and eventually Lisa and two of the children all experienced mental illness, which required hospitalization, and Bob had no idea that the spirit in the house had anything to do with this. He didn't know that spirits could have anything to do with psychological issues within his family or with anyone else because he just and he just continued to try to manage it because they just they accepted that they lived with a spirit. Okay. And he just thought they had issues. Yeah. And that they needed to work through it. That he didn't know could have anything to do with the spirits. Okay. One night in two thousand three, his oldest son attacked him and Bob would be arrested. Jesus. The next morning, his elderly aunt, who was living with the family, was found dead in her bed from natural causes. Which natural causes okay. Yeah. But it's just two things at once. Bob's wife was deteriorating. Lisa was deteriorating. She experienced severe anxiety, depression, and episodes of confusion. Clergy later concluded that she was being spiritually oppressed. Okay. The family members would have a lot of sleep disturbances while they're they were at the house. they would wake up turned around in their bed, blankets removed, or positioned differently than when they fell asleep. Still waiting for this to not be something about a demon. I don't know what the hell you're talking about. Over the years, the Cranmer family became increasingly dysfunctional. I already read that part. Moving on. certain rooms became unusable due to the overwhelming dread that you would feel when you went inside and family members avoided the basement entirely. Yeah, probably because it was creepy as rock. The entity seemed to target individual individuals in the home, isolating them emotionally and physiologically. I think poltergeist. The way it's messing with them, I think poltergeist. You don't think you don't think that you still you're going demon? yeah, like it like the emotional like that's demon territory. Like that's not poltergeist. Poltergeist shouldn't isn't that's not that I don't know. Y I was really thinking you were gonna come out with something that was very undemon like like it was a fucking rat in the walls. Or no, hobgoblin or something. You know like a hobgoblin. I love a hobgoblin, but no, motherfucker, this is the demon's status for whatever they are. I feel like it's that. Paranormal researchers from Penn State University came to the home or started hearing about the home and they wanted to research it. They sent the group's leader, Ryan Buell, for the show Paranormal State State to come and investigate the house. He was the founder of the Paranormal Research Society and after he came to the house, they spent six nights there. Mm-hmm. They documented constant voices, shadow figures, and physical disturbances. And he said, You need a priest. Yeah. Y'all need a priest. So he contacted clergy to come and help with the investigation. Okay. they heard after multiple investigations, they heard overlapping voices, whispers and growls, full body apparitions that seemed that was seen by at least one team member and This is where I'm con I don't know which one. Buell said that it is either a full demon demonic infestation or a poltergeist. Okay. So Okay. You're going you're going demon. I I feel like they both can be the same thing. They could maybe be the they could be the same thing. But this is you just lied to me. I lied to you? Because either way, I don't like it. But continue. That's it. The demon's gonna come in and you guys take over my body and make me do whatever it is. What's that one the demon devil made him do it? Arnie Johnson? Yeah. You're gonna Arnie Johnson me? Yeah. That's not good. I'm not gonna Arnie Johnson you. I'll think about it. Bob was at his wits' end and decided to contact the Catholic Church for help. The Craners were not Catholic. The mayor of Pittsburgh, Tom Murphy, who was a personal friend of Cranmer, went to see them went to see went with them to see the Bishop of Pittsburgh to request the assistance from the diocese. They were assigned management of the case to f the the they assigned management of the case to Father Ron Legwin, who would eventually be assisted by several other priests and one lay person who was Connie. Connie Valenti. They wanted one person in there to kind of just document everything who kind of had no skin in the game just to witness things. And then they started a battle to cleanse the house that took two years. Jesus. They had lived in this house for a long time at this point. Like we're going on eight, nine years at this point. The Diocese of Pitts Pittsburgh became directly involved in the case. They were consistently updated, made lots of voyages to the house to kind of check on things. and they okay, this is doesn't help my case at all. Catholic demonology was used to classify the entity as non human spirit. Awesome. A poltergeist is also non human spirit. Okay. Does the Catholic diocese come in for a poltergeist? Typically no. Anyways, continue. Activity intensified during blessings and exorcisms. Rooms became what they quote said, quote, battlegrounds. Objects flying, door slamming, temperature dropping. The air would become foul smelling. And there was a trainer for exorcisms named Adam Blay, who said that This smell would kind of follow you around as you were pl praying. Uh-huh. So if you stayed in one room, but could the priest just have had bad gas? Could have, but I'm just gonna say that this sounds like a fucking demon. Also, there's a difference between bad gas and sulfur. Like I know yes, it does smell like it like sulfur is a very distinct. It's very distinct smell. Yeah. And when it comes to the paranormal, you smell sulfur. Sulfur. And it's like, yeah, it smells like d egg farts or something, but like it is It is consistent and not I mean, I've been around you and your husband when you've had lots of deviled eggs and you don't smell like that. I don't believe that I smell like that. Him, another story. He gasses me out of something. Ew. Next year. You know who gas next? I don't know. Who gasses you out of next year? I'm like, what do you have? An instinct lens removed next year? I fucking wish. You know who gasses us out? Is Grim. Our little puppy. If he gets into the cat food, which he will do because he's still small enough to like fit in the door. my God. That I mean I got some bad stink in that butt. When before we figured out Jay and this our dog's food situation, because it is finding the right food that doesn't, you we're We're in the middle of like playing right now. And we I just will never forget we were we had just visited someone who was gonna watch her while we were away for Christmas, and she was in the car with us. We were on the phone to my mom and we're driving home. She farted. It was so bad. It just Tex and I in the were in the car. We were I was gagging. He was gagging. We were it was the worst. It was like we were trapped in this like fart thing. It was pouring rain outside, so we couldn't like we rolled the windows down, but it was it was a fart chambered. It was horrible. It a fart chamber. It was the worst thing of my life. Good lord, J and this I don't like it. Me either. It's so stinky. this instance would come to an end in February two thousand six. That is eighteen years after they moved into the home. Wow. Eighteen years they lived with it. That's wild that they lived with it for that long. I wanna mean to say it couldn't have been that bad then. After a prolonged spiritual warfare, cler clergy declared the entity, quote, forced out. Bob described the final night as a shock battle that shook the house. The family reported immediate relief afterwards. Whew. during that time, Cranmer began to write the story from notes that he had kept for the next several years. The book was released in 2014 with a lot of media acclaim, and Cranmer would be interviewed across the country. His reputation as a public official, combined with his involvement of other notable people like the mayor, the bishop, the federal. fathers that came in through the house added to the credibility of his story and it attracted the attention of the Pittsburgh media. Mm-hmm. Cranmer insisted that he had little to gain and his reputation to lose, which I do agree with that. And states that the story had to be told to verify that evil does exist in the world. Yeah. He did have a lot to lose. He was a public official. Like he he was very well known. It wasn't somebody who just wanted attention. He already had attention. So I do believe in that. afterwards there was emotional scars that his whole family has until to this day. There are still some anomalies in the house, small noises, cold spots, some smells, but nothing like the original. Today it the Brownsville house is known as the Brownsville Road House, which was which is a bed and breakfast. We can go state there. You got a mouse in your pocket? Do you wanna go? No. Let's go. No, I'll go to a ghosty place, not a demony place. no. The fuck no. What's the difference? I'm not sure, but not good. Like a friendly ghosty who's gonna like hang out with you versus someone who's like flipping you the other way in your bed. Yeah, that's true. That's a good point. Beds are off limits. We talked about Beds are off limits. We talked about this last week, I think. Beds are off liv limits. So Bob still lives in the house there and he believes that he is spiritually protected because he speaks publicly about this all the time and he said that quote, evil hates being exposed. So the the more he speaks about it, the more that they will leave him alone. Isn't that how it works? So then we should be we should be fine. We should be fine. I mean, we are fine, I think. Bob wrote the book to warn others and validate his family experience and he stresses that the events were witnessed by clergy, investigators, and neighbors, so that it must be true. Okay. so the book went wild. Yeah. Like the book went crazy. I'm surprised I hadn't heard about it until I was like looking up for different haunted house type thing. I w I wanted a spooky house. It's October out. It is October, it's about time. the primary source of criticism came from several children and grandchildren of the two families that lived in the house before. So there was a period of forty-seven years that the previous owners were all deceased and then the house lay vacant and then they was bought again and then they ended up moving in. But the people that lived in the house before said that they had no recollection of paranormal activity because Bob had referenced them. in the book for different instances, like when he talked about old people witni or other people witnessing things in the house. These people say that that never happened. Okay. The children and grandchildren of those people say that it never happened. But they they didn't live in the house though. They didn't live in the house. Okay. Cranmer reported that the Joyce children, one of the f Friar families were named the Joyces, were upset that the reputation of their deceased parents were possibly being smeared. Well So they were upset about that. Cranmer had stated that Mrs. Joyce made it clear to both him and his wife that she detested the Wagners who had sold the house to them. He stated that people are always concerned that they can be held legally liable if they do not reveal to the buyers problems of the spiritual nature of the house, which I discovered it not is not the case in Pennsylvania. So they had bought the house and had all these problems and tried to hold the previous owners legally responsible for the spiritual issues happening with the house, but you can't do that in Pennsylvania. Yeah. but the children say that this never happened. Okay. Craner also says that the in the book that one daughter, Barbara Wagner, who grew up in the house, did reluctantly detail significant paranormal activity to him while he was writing the book. She died before publication, so there's no way to verify this. He also stated that the son of a man who had grown up in the neighborhood during the nineteen thirties stated that the house was widely known to be haunted. He claimed that one of the sons of the previous owners verified strange activity to him before that son understood the book would cast an unfavorable light upon his deceased father. So he's basically the families feel like he's smearing their reputations. Okay. And they say that nothing ever happened. Hmm. In a special report in The Skeptical Inquirer, the Satanic Skeptic investigates the demon house of Brownville Road. Contributor J.D. Sword, who is a member of the Church of Satan, made a lot of questions to Cranmer about his book. He explained how, since demonic exorcism is performed by the Catholic Church, and that the house was then transformed into a bed and breakfast. Could it really have been? Because even though the demonic ac activity was expelled, having so many people come in and out could reignite it. Okay. So that's his argument. Okay. Was that now it's a kind of a public place, so how can it be free and clear? Yeah. He also tries to get people to come and investigate the home now, even though he says nothing's there anymore. Yeah. Which is kind of strange. And people don't think anything's like, yeah, they go there and there's nothing. Sword also did research into Doctor from the book. He said that Doctor was rumored to or Bob said that Doctor was rumored to perform illegal abortions in the nineteen twenties and thirties in the book. Mhm. Historical records do show a Doctor but there's nothing to signify anything. And they found family of this Doctor Yeah. Mu Mahan, I think he was. And they say nothing. So we're picking apart Cranmer's book and experiences and there's not a lot of valid things in it. Things that are verifiable. Yeah. so it's a bed and breakfast now as of twenty nineteen, and nothing has happened. Yeah. People who are there, you would think that people would go and be like, this happened, this happened, this happened. But if if things were, they would. They would. And you would kind of I don't know, advertise it as such. Also, we know this would have Zach Baggins would have like grabbed it and ran. We know. We know. Deldo Baggins would have been on it. He would have been on it like a fly on poop. White on rise. Sure. Close. Mm-hmm. Yeah. Same. Yeah. But yeah. Do you I I mean, I will, you know Sounds but the church was involved. Mm-hmm. And they said that things did happen. Mm-hmm. So that is where so here's this is my theory. Okay. That let's believe him and say that it did. Okay. And let's say that he elaborated the story for a book, which I do believe that's what happened. That there were things that went on, whatever. Maybe the people whose gra like the grandchildren who were like offended by him bringing up. Maybe it was something that the family never talked about. Maybe it was something that they were too you know, you know, people get about paranormal shit. 'Cause for it my only reason I believe it somewhat is that the church is involved. The church is in church doesn't and they're ch doesn't involve themselves without being positive something's going on. There's recorded exorcisms in that house. Yeah. So So something went on. Yeah. And it was by the church. It wasn't by Ed Warren. Yeah. Yeah Well that no, but that's it. Is that and I feel like and the church doesn't like fuck around for no reason. Like they may like to get someone to come out And exercise the demons. I have exercised the demons. It's a lot. It's a lot. It takes a lot of like records. They don't just come out for any anything. And we've we've looked into this. Well, we've watched shows on this and kind of stuff like that where the first thing they do is they try to verify the mental health of the s the people in They go through all the safety measures to like make it a mental illness. It's not like, you know, they try and find the reason why it's happening. And like is someone faking it? Is it they try to discredit it as being paranormal? Yeah. And it's at the point when they like can't discredit it anymore is when and so something happened. Something happened. And I truly do feel like back in the day or like you know, we anybody who believes in paranormal or made to feel like you're crazy, like it's, you know, bullshit, all the things So there is a possibility that the family could have literally never discussed it. Yeah. His wife left it. I read somewhere that his wife has left him since then, like couldn't couldn't manage it, like all of this stuff. So I'm sure the children have had mental health issues the rest of their life being I can't even imagine. Imagine growing up in a house like that. fucking terrible. Yeah. So I'm like I think I'm with you. Yeah. Where it happened, something happened. Right. The Catholic Church was involved. but the book was maybe a little fluffed. Yeah, swift. Yes. Like the the history of places. Yeah, or maybe he very. He made it up for the book and that's what it is. Or hearsay from like did you hear because like of course, like, the haunted house, did you hear they used to explain illegal abortions in house. But also fake doctor, fake whatever. Like he could have made that shit up. It's the part where the church is involved saying it happened that I'm like, 'cause that's documented. Well, something happened. Something happened. Who knows what? Yeah, I guess you're right. That was a demon one. You stupid I'll murder you. She might. No, I won't. I'm just gonna joke. If I go missing. It's a joke. It's a joke. Well, shit. Well, yeah, that was definitely a demon one, but you get to edit this one, so go you. Go you. Yes. I I'm good with not. Okay. I'll let it mess up your laptop. Fri fine with me. Fine with me. If it is something mine's used for work, I can replace it. But isn't it isn't it proven that Not proven. But like when they're saying that if it there was a demon situation in that house and then they got rid of it. But like how many other houses has that happened and do things continue to happen? Well, that's why he said he's he said things continue to happen now and then, minuscule. Yeah, but the people who stay there they said no. So I mean, and it doesn't have to continue to happen. Like it like you could just get rid of something and you got rid of it, right? Well I'm I think the the the guy from the Church of Satan, his argument was you have so many people coming in and out of this house with so many different like energetic Yeah, eddie things. Yeah. that if it was susceptible to anything like that, it would have come right back. Yeah. That's what he said. Okay. But also people from the Church of Satan, unless this is the other one, they don't believe in anything. Okay, well what about throwing this one out there? 'Cause I don't think we even discussed this option. What if it was attached to them? What if one of them subbed it and brought it in? Because then that makes way more sense that no one else before experienced it and then no one since that was attached to the people who lived there. Yeah. No, I like I I think that's that makes the most sense to me. More with that one. Yeah. Cause then it makes sense why no one who ever lived there before ever experienced anything. It makes sense that now no one else has experienced it. Yeah. So Also, back to the guy from the Church of Satan, they're atheists. So his job is to just discredit it because they don't believe in any of it. Well when you said the Church of Satan, I was kinda like that this isn't they this is not their thing. No. There's also their Satanists, which are different. Yeah. So that's not they So why that was you usually don't get involved or like you don't hear the mission. And he was involved heavily, but it seems like it was just to discredit. But why would he even be involved? Why would he even like worry himself? With things like that. I just went and verified that it was the church and sa of Satan and not Satanists. And it was the church of Satan. So they don't actually Yeah. Yeah. That that to me, because we've done so many demon episodes, they never come into play. They're never a part of it. Because again, that believes, I guess you're you believe in Satan, you believe in a heaven and a hell, you believe in that, and that is you believe that I guess demons come from hell, but like Also, I know that, like you said, atheist is part of that. They s they call themselves skeptical atheists. The Church of Satan calls themselves skeptical atheists, which I guess that would maybe more like an agnostic. Yeah, which that's yeah. I don't know. My child. Freaking freaking labels. What do you even what are you even gonna say now? Because it's funny. So we live in a town that is very conservative. We do. And I w my Sex for us, right? It does. But my oldest daughter has always had a number of friends, like never a consistent friend group and all the things. And a lot of her friends, like she gets close with and then we'll taper off. But the consistent theme is that a lot of them are very, very religious. And there's a lot of religion around around here. Yes. You know, a lot. And she always jokes to me that she like she's like, I have to pretend like we go to church because otherwise, like people are not nice and all the stuff and like and I was like, whatever makes you happy, I don't care. So she walks in my house yesterday and she I like look at her and she's wearing a WWJD bracelet. And I said, Do you know what that means? What would JD Vance do? No, I I made a new one. I know, I know. No, no, no. I made a new one. No, no, I know you know what it means. Okay, stop Anyways, and was like, Do you know what it means? And she goes, She goes, No. My my friend, like a new friend that she just made this year, just moved to the school, gave it to her. And I was like, Well, it means what would Jesus do? And she literally goes, Bruh! I can't be friends with anybody anymore. Or God. And I was like, Well, we could just say take a different j J name. Yeah. What would Jim? Jandis. What would Jandis do? So we d we decided for her that was I like it. I think every I think we should all change it. What would Jandis do? And if you believe in Jesus, I mean I believe. Jesus is was a person, yeah and I believe in him, like as a human that did things, probably had psychic abilities. I just don't praise him personally. I believe in what Jesus represents. Yeah. That's close, right? Yeah. No. I think he existed. Yeah. I just don't think that he's involved in our lives currently, besides helping people make bad decisions in the name of him. Do you know what I'm saying? I do know what you're saying. I do know what you're saying. Anyways, but I died. I was like, W W J D. I'm like, you have no idea what you're friends with anybody. Literally, she was like, She's like, Me and my friend, we always have to just pretend like we go to church every Sunday because otherwise we're posers. And I was like, Well, I'm sorry. I was like, you can go if you want. My daughter. I'm gonna she hates it if I talk about it, but I'm gonna I'm this is just too funny. Yesterday she goes, one of her teachers was like trying to get to know, like, do a get to know you thing and One of the questions was who has a significant impact on your life? Mm. And the teacher said, Jesus Christ and he called himself a Jesus freak and he said he is a Christian man, all this stuff. I said, Mia. shouldn't have said her name, but whatever. I said while the he the teacher saying that in class. sorry. But I said, Have you said what I have told you to say for years now? Because this happens a lot. Yeah. For years now. She goes, No, mom. Because I tell her to say, Sir, my mama and I worship the good Lord Sitan and we don't agree with you. But you gotta say it like that. You have to say it like that. You have to say it like that. Say something about the good Lord Sitan. Good Lord. The good Lord The Lord Satan. She goes, Mom, I'm not going to. My other daughter says the same thing that she's not going to. I mean, I feel like I get it. I probably wouldn't say that either, but also like, ugh. I'm just shocked that. We also do not l worship Satan. I'm not worshiping no Maya. We're not worshiping any mayhem. No, I'm not No. No. No fuck no. Absolutely. Mother Earth is who I worship. Mother Earth. I don't know why that felt necessary. It was. Yeah. Because Mother Earth. Uhhuh. But also like Earth is energy. I don't necessarily believe it's actually a a female. Like it's just Just energy. Energy. They them. They them. They non binary. Earth. Also just not human. I just hate that everything's worship of mine. No. Over my dead body. No. That's why when people say witches worship Satan, it's hilarious because have you ever met a witch? Because they're not fucking worshiping they're worshipping. Not at all. Also you gotta believe in sight and yeah, that's it. Most witches don't. Mm mm. Anyways. Well shit. Well there there we go. Now on our religious ta tangents of all the things. Yeah. Everybody can have beliefs. We can too. Yeah. Those are our beliefs. Yeah. And you don't have to agree with us. No. You do you, boo boo. That's exactly. And I think that's the part of it. Like everyone believes their own thing, and if it makes you feel good and makes you happy and makes you feel like makes you a better person. It makes you a better person. It makes you a better person. I think that's the part. That's the part. That is the part. Whatever makes you a better person. Yep. Do that. And it makes you sleep soundly at night and makes you feel like everything's gonna be okay. That's what you should go after. Mm-hmm. I like a hundred percent. What would Jandis do? What would Jandis do? we should make a prayer candle. Good Lord Jandis. Yeah. But what what do we do with it? I don't know. What are we praying? No, but you can if you want to. Yeah, we'll put some of our floof in there. Yes. Yeah. Ooh, mix it with the wax. Yeah. Yeah. Ooh. That sounds horrible. Her hair is everywhere, so like I it would be easy to get. she's a majestic. Well, let us know if you want a jandice pering for ten dollars. I was really just thinking we could put her sticker on a pr perk. Yeah, I think that's probably the better idea. Not like her fair hair or her slower in No. No. No. You guys, she is not she's not dumb. Well, maybe she's smarter because she's like She's not dumb. She's no smarter, not work harder kind of dog. talking about her inability to catch food. That's true. Like most dogs do throw food in the air and they'll like jump to catch it. She will literally look at the ground to wait for it to fall. She won't even try. And it is she's lazy. She loves her snacks. She does love her snacks. But she wants them like Brought to her. But she is just a ball of floof, so they fall in her fur and then they get stuck in her fur, and then you know, you gotta get out. Sometimes those dingle berries are pretty bad. No, they've gotten a lot better because once we got her on the right food, we got her tummy figured out. Now her dingles are really, you know. It's just when we take her to the grimmer and they shave too close to her booty hole and then it's just like a eye of sorrow. It really is. Because we're just used to not seeing anything back there, you know. Yeah. I don't know how we went from Jesus to this, but here we welcome to Lunatic Soup Podcast.
