- 0:00The next prophet in. Order of.
- 0:03Timeline is the prophet Jeremiah, and we're starting
- 0:07that book today, though this one is pretty long as far as.
- 0:13Chapters go there are 50. Two chapters in the book of
- 0:16Jeremiah. So we are going to be a couple
- 0:18months going over Jeremiah more than likely.
- 0:24So today I'm going to read the introduction in chapter 1 and
- 0:29because of the topic that's covered in chapter 1, I am
- 0:32going. To talk about these.
- 0:35Recent events or lack of events? Today is September 27th, 2025
- 0:44and there was a viral prediction of a rapture.
- 0:48That was set to occur. On the 23rd of September, which
- 0:52has not happened and it was also declared to be during Rosh
- 0:58Hashanah, which is. Also passed so I.
- 1:01Do want to talk about that? Because this.
- 1:04Chapter first chapter of Jeremiah addresses that, so I'm
- 1:08going to do. The.
- 1:09Jeremiah chapter first and then after that talk about the
- 1:15remainder of this. So here's the introduction from
- 1:18the Study Bible. Why read this book?
- 1:20If you've ever wondered what God wants.
- 1:23Or if you felt you. May you might have missed.
- 1:26His purpose for your life? You're in good company.
- 1:29Jeremiah was a young man who struggled to know God's plan for
- 1:32his life even after. He had made his choice.
- 1:35Additional pressures made him wonder if he had done the right
- 1:38thing. But what Jeremiah discovered can
- 1:40give us insight and perspective when we feel stressed out about
- 1:44serving God during difficult times.
- 1:47Who wrote the book? Jeremiah, a prophet and member?
- 1:50Of a priestly household. Jeremiah's aide Baruch.
- 1:55Actually recorded the words of. Jeremiah's prophecies, as
- 1:59Jeremiah dictated them, it is also.
- 2:01Possible that Baruch. Was responsible for the final
- 2:04compilation of the book. When was it written?
- 2:08Over the course of Jeremiah's ministry in Judah 626.
- 2:13To 585 BC. The last.
- 2:16Verses were added after 561 BC about. 25 years after the
- 2:23destruction of Jerusalem, what were the key events of
- 2:27jeremiah's Life and Times Born in a village about an hour's
- 2:32walk from Jerusalem, Jeremiah was.
- 2:35Called by God to be a prophet. When he was young, Jeremiah saw
- 2:40his nation disintegrating morally from within and being
- 2:44destroyed militarily from without he He saw Jerusalem
- 2:51attacked in 586 BC and many of its people taken captive to
- 2:56foreign lands during this time his warnings and.
- 3:00Pleas for Judah. To turn back to God fell on deaf
- 3:04ears after Jerusalem fell Jeremiah was.
- 3:07Forced to flee to Egypt. Where it is assumed he died?
- 3:13What to look for in Jeremiah Jeremiah's grim prophecies in
- 3:17both poetry and prose continually warned Judah about
- 3:22God's approaching judgment. Because of the people's.
- 3:25Constant wilful disobedience. Yet intermingled with all the
- 3:31dark messages were words of hope about Jeremiah.
- 3:36Sorry about Judah's future redemption.
- 3:39Watch for Jeremiah's encouragement.
- 3:42Prophecies that are still. Being fulfilled today whenever
- 3:46sinful hearts are transformed by God.
- 3:51So, chapter 1, let's start with a prayer.
- 3:56Dear God, please be with us and let the Holy Spirit give us
- 4:01wisdom and insight. As we read through your.
- 4:04Words and as I discussed today. About this chapter.
- 4:10I want to be influenced. By the Holy.
- 4:13Spirit and your words only to come out, so guide me in the
- 4:19appropriate way. I ask for this.
- 4:21In Jesus name Jeremiah chapter 1, the words of Jeremiah son of
- 4:27Hilkiah, one of the priests at Anathoth in the territory of
- 4:32Benjamin. So I noticed when I was reading
- 4:34this that Jeremiah is coming from the territory of Benjamin.
- 4:39It's it's always interesting that's where Paul came from.
- 4:42Also, he was somewhat from the tribe of Benjamin, and Benjamin
- 4:46was one of the two. Tribes.
- 4:48That were in the southern portion of the Kingdom when they
- 4:51were separated. So the 10 tribes were in the
- 4:54Northern Kingdom and then Judah and Benjamin were in the
- 4:58Southern Kingdom. It just helps sometimes in
- 5:01understanding these things. Our seeing how God works.
- 5:07Continuing on the. Word of the Lord.
- 5:08Came to him in the 13th year of the reign of Josiah son of Amon,
- 5:14king of Judah, and through the reign of Jehoiakim, son of
- 5:19Josiah king of Judah, down to the fifth month of the 11th year
- 5:25of Zedekiah son of Josiah king of Judah, when the people of
- 5:30Jerusalem went into exile. So the study Bible says.
- 5:35When did Jeremiah preach? Jeremiah preached during the
- 5:39reigns of 5 Kings. Only the most important ones are
- 5:42noted in. Verses 2 through 3.
- 5:45He preached in Judah from 6:26. To 585 BC.
- 5:50Sometime after the fall of Jerusalem in 586 BC, Jeremiah.
- 5:56Was exiled to. Egypt, where he continued to
- 5:59preach. According to Jewish tradition,
- 6:02Jeremiah was stoned to death in Egypt by his fellow countrymen.
- 6:07A few years. After Jerusalem's fall.
- 6:11So OK, let's continue with verse 4.
- 6:15The word of the Lord. Came to me saying before I
- 6:20formed you in the womb, I knew you before you were born, I set
- 6:26you apart. I appointed you as a prophet to
- 6:31the nations. I will stop here a.
- 6:33Few things came to mind as I was reading this.
- 6:36First of all, when God, God. Creates all of us.
- 6:41God does have a purpose for each of us.
- 6:45Now in other. Parts of the scripture it talks
- 6:47about. God being the Potter and us
- 6:51being the clay and. It also talks about just.
- 6:56As a Potter can make some. Pieces of pottery for special
- 7:02purposes. And some for common purposes.
- 7:05That's the same for us too. Sometimes God has special
- 7:09purposes for those he he creates, and sometimes they're
- 7:12just common purposes. And so Jeremiah obviously was
- 7:16one of those that was set. Apart for special purposes.
- 7:20And it's very interesting because in the way.
- 7:25This is described this. Was like a conversation between.
- 7:29The Lord. And Jeremiah, so often we.
- 7:32Say we hear people today. You can find people who say the
- 7:37Lord told me, and I'm always. Skeptical of those people
- 7:41because I wonder how did he say that to you?
- 7:44Was it audible? How do?
- 7:46You know it's from God. How do you know it's not your
- 7:48own thoughts? How do you know it's not from
- 7:50the enemy? All those questions and because
- 7:54there's so many people that say that now.
- 7:58Also, the other thing I've noticed.
- 7:59Too, though, is a lot of people who.
- 8:01Say those kinds of things today that I've seen are saying a
- 8:05similar message to what Jeremiah is saying.
- 8:08So I'm not saying that God didn't tell them.
- 8:11It's just that there's a. Lot of people.
- 8:13Saying that and we can't I'm we all know that it's 100% of the
- 8:18people who are saying that are not being.
- 8:21Told by God. They're being told in another.
- 8:25Way either by their. Own desires or by the enemy and
- 8:30that's. The that's the tricky.
- 8:31Part There's There's three potential sources for.
- 8:36What people? Think it's either their own
- 8:39thoughts, something from God, or something from the enemy.
- 8:43And the important thing for everyone to have is discernment.
- 8:48How do you tell if something is from God, if something is from
- 8:52your own or something is from the enemy?
- 8:55And there's information in the Bible about those things on ways
- 9:01to do that. So number one is whatever comes
- 9:07from the word. Of the Lord of the Lord.
- 9:09Will not contradict scripture, so that's a really easy one to
- 9:14rule out when I say. Easy.
- 9:16It's easy. To say well in scripture.
- 9:18It says this. And the words.
- 9:21That you're. Coming up with are saying that,
- 9:24so if you see something that doesn't align with.
- 9:27God's word, that's. Easy to say.
- 9:29It doesn't matter if it's that person or if it's the enemy
- 9:31trying to say it, but it's easy to know that it's not from God.
- 9:35However, not everyone knows. Scripture really well, so it's
- 9:40easy. For.
- 9:41People to be deceived, that's. Another reason why it's really
- 9:44important for all of us to know what scripture actually says.
- 9:49So then when we hear someone saying something opposite from
- 9:53what scripture says and speaking it.
- 9:56As if it's the truth. Then we can call it out for the
- 10:01benefit of other people. So that other people.
- 10:04Are not misled. We don't call it out.
- 10:06Just because we feel a. Certain way, but we need
- 10:10scriptural support to say no, this is not true.
- 10:14Because this is what scripture says.
- 10:17Because we know scripture is true.
- 10:19So we're in this time right now. Obviously we all know that with
- 10:25AI, with technology. There it's very, very easy.
- 10:31To deceive people. And God actually warned us about
- 10:35that, and we'll talk about that later in some.
- 10:40Verses because it says. In in scripture it says if.
- 10:44Possible. To deceive even the elect
- 10:48through signs and wonders that. They're going to be so.
- 10:52Strong that, if possible, would deceive even the elect.
- 10:57The elect are God's chosen people.
- 11:01So this is a warning from God telling us that we're easily
- 11:08deceived. So this means that we need to
- 11:11know Scripture better than we ever have.
- 11:14We need to have to know the. Truth.
- 11:17So that we can spot the deception because the deception
- 11:21is very subtle and people don't recognize it when you are not
- 11:27well versed in scripture. And anyway, so let's.
- 11:33Let's go back. To what we were talking about is
- 11:35about God forming Jeremiah, and he had set Jeremiah apart as a
- 11:40prophet. He appointed him and this.
- 11:43Was God's. Plan for him.
- 11:46So I'll continue reading. Alas, Sovereign Lord, I said.
- 11:51I do not know how to speak. I am too young.
- 11:54I thought this was kind of funny, but not really funny, but
- 11:58interesting because that is anytime God seems to use, not
- 12:04anytime or not every time, but often it seems when God wants to
- 12:09use somebody for his purpose, they think, no, not me.
- 12:15That's somebody else. Somebody else can do that.
- 12:18That's not I'm not called to that.
- 12:20I can't do this. I can't.
- 12:21No, I can't do that. So that's something that maybe
- 12:25we should pay attention to the humbleness of a person because
- 12:30there's some people that are out there.
- 12:32That's like love to say. God told me this and you know, I
- 12:36was appointed for this, you know, and and they just.
- 12:38There's all this. Pride in there and God.
- 12:40Hates pride. But what you see is God uses the
- 12:44humble. And here we can see that
- 12:47Jeremiah is really humble. He's like, I do not know who,
- 12:50how to. Speak.
- 12:51I'm too. Young like, you know, don't tell
- 12:53me to be a prophet and be speaking to people.
- 12:56I don't know how to do that. I'm just I'm young and and God,
- 13:01you know, this is. God.
- 13:02Choosing him as a young person, if you remember that Moses had
- 13:08that same reaction. Moses said I can't talk.
- 13:10I mean, I don't know if there's some I heard and I don't
- 13:13remember. This is in Scripture or
- 13:14somebody's speculation that Moses stuttered maybe or he had
- 13:19some kind of a speech trouble and and God actually let.
- 13:25His I. Think it was his cousin Aaron go
- 13:29with him so that he could speak for Moses in those times because
- 13:32he was Again, Moses was not confident in himself and and we
- 13:39see that we see that often. In fact, I think it's when
- 13:44Samuel was being 1st called by God that he wasn't.
- 13:49Sure, he thought, Eli the priest was.
- 13:51Calling him like he didn't recognize that.
- 13:54So there are times where. God starts.
- 13:56Speaking to someone and these. People, obviously.
- 13:59Apparently heard an audible. Voice.
- 14:02Or it was just like something in their mind.
- 14:05Maybe they didn't hear an audible voice, but they heard
- 14:08something, words in their mind that they didn't think were
- 14:11their own. Anyway, that's what God does,
- 14:15and God talks to people. Or he has.
- 14:17Talked to people. In the past, we'll see that
- 14:21because I did a word search of the.
- 14:24Word of the Lord. So there's like probably. 5 or 6
- 14:28different pages. Where it was just the.
- 14:30Word of the Lord and you'll see some repetitions here.
- 14:32So going back into the book of Jeremiah.
- 14:36Where he says I. Did not know how to speak.
- 14:38I am too young. But the Lord said to me, do not
- 14:43say I am too young. You must go to everyone I send
- 14:47you and say whatever I command you.
- 14:50Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you and will.
- 14:56Rescue you, declares the Lord. So there's several things we can
- 15:00see about. God here.
- 15:02He gives confidence to Jeremiah. He says don't say I'm too young.
- 15:06Don't come up with excuses. This is similar to Jonah when
- 15:11God wanted Jonah to go to Nineveh and and speak to them,
- 15:16but Jonah didn't want to go there.
- 15:18He knew Nineveh was full of sinners and he didn't want to be
- 15:22a part of it. He went the opposite direction,
- 15:24but then God caused some trouble out in the seas and they were
- 15:32about to drown, and Jonah realized that.
- 15:35All. Of this was happening because he
- 15:38was disobeying God. God had something he wanted
- 15:41Jonah to do, Jonah didn't want to do.
- 15:45It because he probably had. Prejudices against the sinful
- 15:49people that were in Nineveh that he didn't, He didn't want to.
- 15:52Do with, deal with. Them he wanted to do his own
- 15:54thing and just leave them be. But God was like, Nope, I want
- 15:59you to go there. And so Jonah refused God.
- 16:03And so God made it challenging for him, and God would probably
- 16:07keep pursuing Jonah. And then, finally, Jonah got the
- 16:10message. It's like, OK, God, I'll do what
- 16:13you say. So God didn't really force Jonah
- 16:18to do it, but God had to humble Jonah to say I am God, you are
- 16:23not, you know, that's that's what God I think does with a.
- 16:27Lot of us, I feel. I certainly feel like God did
- 16:30that with me where He had to humble me because I feel like in
- 16:35my life there have been many times where there was.
- 16:37Probably like a a. Calling from God to do something
- 16:41and I was like, ah, not right now.
- 16:42I've got, you know, this going on and, you know, pushing off
- 16:45things that I probably should not.
- 16:47Maybe I'm not really sure, but I certainly wasn't consulting God
- 16:53at the time to ask do you want me to do this or not?
- 16:56I was just saying no to things and and so looking back in
- 17:02hindsight, that may have been God and God did make my life
- 17:06pretty darn challenging before. I decided to obey God.
- 17:10And to surrender to Him because I didn't want to.
- 17:14And, and so I see that when I'm reading through this, I see
- 17:18that's how God. Works with a lot of people.
- 17:19He'll he'll. Give us the insight that you
- 17:24know this is probably what you need to do, but he.
- 17:26Still lets us have. The decision A.
- 17:30Choice he get lets. Us have the choice and we can
- 17:33say Nope, I'm not doing it right now, or we can be obedient ones
- 17:37and do what he says and when we are disobedient to him, he can
- 17:42make our life as hell because God seems to do that he.
- 17:49Lets trials. Tribulation and stuff occurred
- 17:52to. People who are rebellious to.
- 17:54Him, it's very clear in Scripture.
- 17:57Just like Nona, he, just like Jonah, He made his life.
- 18:03Pretty chaotic. When he wasn't going to listen
- 18:06to God. And so God will do the same to
- 18:09ours to get our attention. To get rid of that pride.
- 18:12Get what? Rid of that.
- 18:14Rebellion and turn US towards him we see throughout.
- 18:17Scripture that that's what God. Wants.
- 18:19He wants us to turn to Him. He doesn't want us to be
- 18:23disobedient to Him. OK, going back to Scripture then
- 18:27The Lord. Reached.
- 18:28Out his hand and touched my mouth and said to me, I have put
- 18:33my words in your mouth. See, today I appoint you over
- 18:37nations and kingdoms to uproot and tear down, to destroy and
- 18:42overthrow, to build and to plant.
- 18:47That would be pretty scary. To have God tell you as a young
- 18:52person, this is all you're going to do, this is what you're going
- 18:55to do. It's a pretty daunting task and
- 19:00but you know God when he uses a person.
- 19:04He lets us have our free will to decide whether we will.
- 19:07Go along with him, but. He he always says.
- 19:10Don't be afraid. And he?
- 19:12Basically says I will equip you with whatever.
- 19:15You need, you don't have to. Fear if I tell.
- 19:17You to do something, don't even worry about it, just do it
- 19:20because. I will equip you this is.
- 19:23Pretty much what God says. And he was saying I don't know
- 19:26how to speak. So God said I'm putting words in
- 19:30your mouth. Jesus said to his disciples.
- 19:33Don't worry. About what you have to.
- 19:34Say when they would get brought in front of the officials.
- 19:38Because he said the holy. Spirit would speak for them so.
- 19:43All we have to do is be. Obedient to God and then God.
- 19:48Will take care of the. Rest and then when we get into a
- 19:51place or a point where we're like, well, I don't know what to
- 19:54do. Like I can't, I don't, I don't
- 19:56know what to say. That's when we just like.
- 19:59Say God take over. Give me the words to say because
- 20:02I don't know what to say. And God does that because we are
- 20:06being obedient to him. And obedient to him is not a
- 20:09legalistic thing. It's a.
- 20:11Way that we show love. God said.
- 20:15Jesus. Said to us, said to his
- 20:19disciples, to his followers, he said if you love me, obey my
- 20:24commands. So that is showing love to be
- 20:30obedient. And it's not being legalistic,
- 20:35it's showing love. If someone you love says can you
- 20:39do this for me? That's showing love back to the
- 20:43person so. The word of the Lord.
- 20:47Came to me. What do you see?
- 20:49Jeremiah So here God is testing Jeremiah.
- 20:53I see the branch of an almond. Tree, I replied.
- 20:57The Lord said to me, You have seen correctly, for I am
- 21:01watching to see that my word is fulfilled.
- 21:05So there's a little note in here about the Hebrew.
- 21:10Word. For watching sounds like the
- 21:13Hebrew for almond tree so we won't pick up that when we read
- 21:18it in this version of the Bible that I'm reading, but in.
- 21:23Actual Hebrew there is. Some like rhyming I guess, or
- 21:27some similar sounding thing, is that God's using something
- 21:31symbolic that sounds like something to get a message, you
- 21:35know, to probably ingrain that in somebody's thoughts, to
- 21:39commit it to memory. So that he.
- 21:42Remembers an almond tree, but then it sounds like you have
- 21:48seen correctly for I am watching to see that my word is
- 21:51fulfilled. God is watching us.
- 21:53He is watching what we do the. Word of the Lord.
- 21:56Came to me again. What do you see?
- 21:59I see a pot that is boiling, I answered.
- 22:03It is tilting towards us from the north, the Lord said to me.
- 22:08From the north, disaster will be poured out on all who live in
- 22:13the land. I am about to summon all the
- 22:18peoples of the Northern kingdoms.
- 22:20Declares the Lord. So we see a couple of things
- 22:23here. First of our.
- 22:24All God, when he's speaking to Jeremiah, he's using symbols are
- 22:30symbolic things, are metaphors of things.
- 22:33And he's showing Jeremiah, you know, does that help?
- 22:36Committed to memory perhaps that he's showing them this is what's
- 22:41going to happen. So Jeremiah will see something
- 22:45and then God explains it. He doesn't leave them in the
- 22:47dark and he says that there's going to be disaster from the
- 22:52north and it's God is about to summon them.
- 22:56Now God is the one doing this. So it's not just the enemy, not
- 23:01when I say just, but it's God. God is in control of things.
- 23:06That's what we have to also reflect.
- 23:09Upon because I think if we reflect upon this, it might
- 23:12make. Us or lead?
- 23:13Us not make us, but lead us into repentance because when we see
- 23:18God's pattern of interacting with people.
- 23:22He protects those. Who are obedient to Him and
- 23:28those who are rebellious to him, to Him get to experience some
- 23:35challenges in life and not to. Say that people who are.
- 23:42Obedient to God don't get challenges because there is the
- 23:45enemy that does come against. The people of God.
- 23:49That brings about those trials. So.
- 23:54You know, sometimes it's God, sometimes it's the enemy.
- 23:57But specifically here it says. I am about to summon all the
- 24:01peoples of the Northern Kingdom, and when God summons them, he
- 24:07often he's, he's not taking over somebody's free will.
- 24:11These northern kingdoms already want to do this, but God is
- 24:15using their desires for his purpose.
- 24:19So again, this is how God uses people's own desires to
- 24:23accomplish something that He's done.
- 24:26He could also stop it, but in this case, He's going to let
- 24:29those people who want to come against Jerusalem for them to be
- 24:36successful because he's trying to.
- 24:40It'll say why he does. This too, he said, their kings
- 24:43will come and set up their Thrones in the entrance of the
- 24:47gates of Jerusalem. They will come against all her
- 24:51surrounding walls and against all the towns of Judah.
- 24:55I will pronounce my judgments on my people.
- 25:00It gives you. Why?
- 25:00Because because of their. Wickedness in forsaking me
- 25:06because the people turned away from God.
- 25:08That's why he's doing this and he's allowing this to happen
- 25:12because they turned away from him.
- 25:15When I read through scripture, I think about these things and I
- 25:18think about in our rebellious times.
- 25:21I, I've been kind of watching since I observed this in
- 25:25Scripture in my own life and in lives of other people around me,
- 25:30people who are rebellious, including me.
- 25:33When I was being rebellious because I wanted to be do what I
- 25:36wanted to do. I didn't necessarily want to do
- 25:39what I knew God probably wanted me to do.
- 25:44And and so I suffered the consequences of that.
- 25:47We do suffer consequences of our behavior.
- 25:50And so when people are knowingly doing rebellious things and they
- 25:56know that God doesn't want them to be doing it, but they do it
- 26:00anyway. They should really expect.
- 26:04Judgment, They should expect some challenges in their life.
- 26:08They're kind of giving it up. They're giving up the protection
- 26:10of God and rebelling against Him, and that brings about
- 26:16judgment, we can see. That repeated over.
- 26:19And over and over again. So ultimately, it's very foolish
- 26:23for us to rebel. Against God for us to have our
- 26:28own way and say, well, I'll do what God wants me to do later.
- 26:34Maybe you will. Maybe as as long as God has
- 26:37mercy on you and he doesn't let your life, you know, get taken
- 26:41by somebody, because you'd have to know that the enemy will
- 26:43probably want to take. Your life if you call yourself a
- 26:46child of God, or if you. Think you're close to God and
- 26:49you? Just stay rebellious.
- 26:52Do you think that, I mean, God does have mercy on those?
- 26:56He wants to have mercy, but there's also the enemy.
- 26:59Think about what the enemy might be thinking.
- 27:01If the enemy's observing what's going on knows that somebody's
- 27:05close to. God, but they've.
- 27:07Slipped away. They've backslidden.
- 27:09Whatever it is, don't you think the enemy's goal might be to?
- 27:13Try to take that. Person out because if that
- 27:15person gets taken out and they never repent of what they've
- 27:19done, they are not in the Kingdom of God and so God can
- 27:26use but then we as we. Will see through job or if
- 27:29you've read. Job, God didn't allow Satan.
- 27:32Because Job was a righteous. Man, he didn't allow Satan to.
- 27:36Take his life, but he. Allowed Satan to inflict him in
- 27:40various ways, not because of anything Job had done, but
- 27:44because Satan, who is the accuser, was in front of God and
- 27:49was telling him that, you know, he could turn Job away.
- 27:54That's Satan's whole goal is to turn people away from God.
- 27:59And anyway. Let's get back to this.
- 28:02So, and it's because of their wickedness.
- 28:05The reason, the only reason I bring that up is that when we
- 28:08rebel against God. This is not in Scripture.
- 28:11This is an opinion that I've established, but it seems like
- 28:16there is some. Legal access that we give to
- 28:19God. 'S enemy if we are forsaking
- 28:22God. Just like he says here this.
- 28:25Is when He brings on judgments for people when they forsake
- 28:28him. If we are ignoring God or we are
- 28:31rebelling against God, we can't be on the fence.
- 28:35We can't be like anybody who's on the fence.
- 28:38I've heard it described several times.
- 28:40You are. It's a black and white thing.
- 28:42It's not a Gray area. You are either with God.
- 28:46Or against God. So if you are on the fence, you
- 28:49are against God, even though you might think, well, I'm not
- 28:53really, you are and God warns about that.
- 28:59You, you can't stay on the fence.
- 29:00In fact, God, even, you know, talks.
- 29:03About the church Laodicea the. Lukewarm church because the
- 29:07Laodicea was a town and their water was lukewarm.
- 29:11It it was mixed between Hot Springs and cold springs, so it
- 29:13was kind of a lukewarm and and. So it was like a.
- 29:17Literal but in symbolic meeting meaning and Jesus said you know,
- 29:21if you don't change your ways. I wanted to spit you out of my
- 29:23mouth. That doesn't sound like you're
- 29:25being. Close to God.
- 29:27When the Son of God is saying I'm going to spit you out of my
- 29:30mouth. So it doesn't sound very
- 29:33pleasant, I don't think God says.
- 29:36Oh well, you're halfway there. You're you're good.
- 29:39No, I don't think so. God is very much this is black
- 29:43and white. We don't get to be halfway in
- 29:45God's Kingdom. We're either in God's Kingdom or
- 29:48we're not. And if we're be in rebellion,
- 29:51unrepentant rebellion, we're not in God's Kingdom.
- 29:55So that's kind. Of a big wake up.
- 29:57Call nobody. Likes to hear that.
- 29:58No churches. Will tell you that because.
- 30:01Then they might not have anybody sitting in their seats giving
- 30:03them money, so they're not going to tell you that.
- 30:06So then it's up. To all these other people who
- 30:08read the Bible, who? Speak the truth to say hey.
- 30:13This is what the Bible says. Search it for.
- 30:15Yourself because the. If your church is not telling
- 30:20you this, then do you think I mean they're really doing their
- 30:25job? I mean, God's going to take care
- 30:27of them for not preparing people for the Kingdom.
- 30:31But hopefully you. Get the message some other way.
- 30:35Anyway, this is just it. It alarmed me when I read this
- 30:40stuff and. So because of that, because.
- 30:44It affected me, it impacted me, it impacted my life and it.
- 30:49Says the fear of. God is the beginning of wisdom.
- 30:51When your eyes are open to this stuff, you're not going to mess
- 30:54around with God. So anyway, he says, I will
- 30:58pronounce my judgement on my. People because of their.
- 31:01Wickedness and forsaking me in burning incense.
- 31:05To other gods. So this is like idolatry.
- 31:10This is the number one thing that it seems like.
- 31:14Really. Really.
- 31:15Really gets God angry with us and it says and in worshipping
- 31:21what their hands have made so. We have to be very careful.
- 31:26With, you know, we get. All of our.
- 31:28Gifts from God. God created us a certain way,
- 31:31anything that we are. Good at It's because God gave us
- 31:34those skills. Everything good?
- 31:37Should be the. Glory should be given to God
- 31:41like it's only. Through God?
- 31:43Through what? He's done through us like how he
- 31:46made different people. That people have abilities to do
- 31:49what they do. And can do beautiful things
- 31:52because God is very creative and does amazing things.
- 31:57And he creates people in his image.
- 32:00But the problem comes in when we start worshipping what our own
- 32:05hands have made that doesn't that's that offends God
- 32:10obviously, because he's bringing judgment on people.
- 32:13And that's where we get into idolatry When?
- 32:16So people are really creative. You know, either with something
- 32:20they build, something they make, something they draw, music they
- 32:24make. Whatever.
- 32:24People are creative because. We are made in God's image, but
- 32:29then that starts going to our head, right?
- 32:31That's like pride. Oh, I'm really good at.
- 32:34This or whatever it is. You know, if it's art, if it's
- 32:37music, if it's building something, whatever, or just,
- 32:43you know, I don't know, mathematical gifts, who knows?
- 32:46You know it's all from God, so whatever.
- 32:49We excel at. And then we start thinking that
- 32:52we did. This I did this.
- 32:55I did this. You think God's really thrilled
- 32:57by? He's like, no, I gave.
- 32:58That to you so really. We should be thanking God
- 33:02anytime something stands out because it's only through.
- 33:05God, that whatever it is. Stands out and God gets upset
- 33:09with it. He's not sharing the limelight.
- 33:11He we need to know our place in. Creation We are a created.
- 33:16Thing we are the clay God is the Potter.
- 33:21So then he says, get yourself ready, stand up and say to them,
- 33:26whatever I command you, do not be terrified by them or.
- 33:31I will terrify you before. Them How would I like God to
- 33:34tell you that? Don't be afraid of these.
- 33:37People but be. Afraid of me because if if you,
- 33:43if. If you.
- 33:44Are and you don't do what I ask you to do, then I'm going to
- 33:48terrify you. I don't think I'd want to be.
- 33:51Terrified by God. So he says today I have made.
- 33:55You a fortified. City, an iron pillar and a
- 33:58bronze wall to stand up to No, to stand against the whole land,
- 34:04against the kings of Judah. It's.
- 34:05Officials. It's priests and the people of
- 34:08the land. They will fight against you but
- 34:13will not overcome you, for I am with you and will rescue you.
- 34:20Declares the Lord. That's the end of chapter 1.
- 34:24So God says that they're not going to overcome.
- 34:30Because he. Put Jeremiah in this position,
- 34:32he's equipping Jeremiah with what he needs and he said that I
- 34:37am with you, so we have to. We have to have.
- 34:41Trust in God. Jeremiah needed to have trust in
- 34:43God and he said, and I will rescue you like that's something
- 34:48to you know, God is spirit, so we don't see.
- 34:51God, but yet God is. Saying.
- 34:53We'll rescue you. This is what?
- 34:54He's saying to Jeremiah, so if any one of us.
- 34:57Got a word like that? Then we need to fully.
- 35:00Trust. God in that way and also make.
- 35:03Sure that that word was. From God and not from our own
- 35:06self or from the enemy too. So that's that's discernment is
- 35:11so important because as we will talk about later why it's so
- 35:19important. So I'm going to read through the
- 35:21questions and answers for this chapter and then get into the
- 35:24discussion discussion about that.
- 35:26Rapture date of. September 23rd that went 2025,
- 35:30that went viral and didn't happen, so OK.
- 35:35How? How old was?
- 35:36Jeremiah, when he sensed. God's call.
- 35:39Jeremiah described himself as being too young, but being young
- 35:43had a broader meaning in that time than it does today.
- 35:46It probably referred to anyone who is not yet fully mature.
- 35:51Jeremiah may have been in his early teens to his early 20s.
- 35:56What exactly did God want Jeremiah to?
- 35:58Do four of the six. Words used to describe Jeremiah
- 36:03are spastic. The bulk of Jeremiah's preaching
- 36:07involved announcing Judah's destruction.
- 36:10To uproot and tear down, to destroy and overthrow.
- 36:15But Jeremiah was also called to proclaim hope to announce a
- 36:20redemption. That was to follow to build.
- 36:24And to plant Jeremiah himself did not do the destroying or
- 36:28building, God did. Jeremiah's ministry was to
- 36:32announce the things that God would do in Judah.
- 36:36Was Judah under attack during Jeremiah's lifetime?
- 36:39Yes, Judah lived under constant. Threat of attack as successive.
- 36:44Empires gain power over it, first Assyria, then Egypt, and
- 36:49finally Babylon. Jerusalem came under direct
- 36:53attack in 586 BC when Babylon destroyed it and LED most of its
- 36:58people into exile. Why use a pun?
- 37:01This is from 1:00, verses 11 through 12.
- 37:06That's where it talks about. The almond tree and I see the
- 37:11branch of an almond tree. I replied the.
- 37:13Lord said to me, You have seen it correctly, for I am watching
- 37:16to see that my word. Is fulfilled word play was a
- 37:21popular literary. Technique used by several
- 37:23prophets it it not only got people's attention but also
- 37:28helped them remember the message and you know, maybe.
- 37:34This was actually what occurred. Between God and Jeremiah.
- 37:38So I wouldn't say it was just literary technique.
- 37:41Maybe God used that literary technique to commit, you know,
- 37:46to commit it to someone's mind. So I.
- 37:49I take the Bible pretty. Literally in what it says, but I
- 37:55also see symbology in it. Like I know that not everything
- 37:59is literal. It's sometimes it's a literal
- 38:05and a symbolic meeting. So I think it just takes
- 38:08discernment to know which is which, because the Bible.
- 38:11Does have both of those? Things so God.
- 38:15How can God appoint someone not yet born?
- 38:20God appoints. People before they are.
- 38:22Born in a sense that he has a plan and a purpose for each
- 38:26person. Galatians 115.
- 38:30Some think this divine plan cannot be resisted.
- 38:34They look to Paul's argument for support.
- 38:37God has mercy on whom he wants to have mercy, and he hardens
- 38:41whom he wants to harden. In this view, Jeremiah had no
- 38:46choice. He couldn't help but do what God
- 38:49intended for his life. I kind of.
- 38:51Disagree with what the study? Bible here says ultimately.
- 38:56God's. Will will be done so.
- 39:01But then we've also seen that when someone rebels against God,
- 39:06for example, let's take Saul King, the first king that the
- 39:10people wanted. Saul had Samuel giving him.
- 39:16Words of God to do it like this is what you need to.
- 39:21Do Saul and so Saul. Would do.
- 39:24He would be the. Lukewarm leader.
- 39:27He would do part of what God wanted, but not all of it.
- 39:31And he'd say, well, I, I did these things.
- 39:33And then Samuel would say, yeah, but you didn't do this or you
- 39:37did that. You weren't.
- 39:38Supposed to do that like. Taking the spoils from a A when
- 39:42he was capturing someone are an entry, you know, when they were
- 39:47going against another country or nation or.
- 39:49Tribe or group of people? When they were going at war, the
- 39:53plunder sometimes. God would say destroy it.
- 39:57All sometimes God would let them keep it.
- 39:59Well, there are certain times where God said destroy
- 40:02everything, but Saul decided I'm just going to keep.
- 40:05The best stuff because. It's good stuff basically.
- 40:09And and Samuel was like, no, that's not what God said.
- 40:13Doesn't matter if it's good stuff.
- 40:15God said get rid of it. All and Saul had a habit of
- 40:20doing that, and in fact some of the.
- 40:22Search that I did today. Looking up.
- 40:24The word of the Lord it did say that the.
- 40:27Lord. Let Saul die.
- 40:30Because he was disobedient. So going back to this, Jeremiah
- 40:34had no choice. I believe Jeremiah still had a
- 40:37choice. Jeremiah chose to follow God.
- 40:42And if Jeremiah said no, I'm not going to, God could continue to
- 40:48test him. Like he did.
- 40:50Jonah when he told Jonah to go to Nineveh.
- 40:53Or God could say, OK, fine, I will end your life.
- 40:57That's it. If you don't want to, if you
- 40:59want to, you know, keep disobeying me and rebelling
- 41:02against me and not doing what I ask, then you can do that.
- 41:08So. I see God.
- 41:12Not forcing people to do something.
- 41:15He can make their life difficult, but ultimately.
- 41:18I still believe that God. Gives us free will and that we
- 41:22are responsible for the choice we make.
- 41:25We can't say God made me do that.
- 41:28We can't say the devil made me do it or Satan made me do it.
- 41:32We are. All responsible for our own
- 41:35choices. We are influenced.
- 41:37By God we are. Influenced by We can be
- 41:41influenced by evil, but we have the ultimate choice.
- 41:45We can't blame anybody else. We have to be accountable for
- 41:48our own actions and that's. The way I believe.
- 41:52Based on. Scripture because I see those.
- 41:54Examples that I talked. About so that's where I would
- 41:56say I would disagree with this study Bible.
- 41:59Because others think that. Although God has a specific
- 42:02purpose for each of us, He also gives gives each of us.
- 42:06The freedom to either. Accept or reject his purpose,
- 42:09OK? So that's what I think.
- 42:11They look to biblical passages. Suggesting that God.
- 42:14Gives people a free. Will one example is a statement
- 42:18made by Jesus. How often I have longed to.
- 42:22Gather your. Children and you were not
- 42:25willing. Yep.
- 42:27See, that's what I mean. Scripture.
- 42:28There's another example. Because Jesus didn't force them
- 42:32otherwise. Jesus could have just.
- 42:34Done anything he wanted, he. Could have just said that's.
- 42:37Enough. I'm just taking all of you, but
- 42:41it's this whole thing about us living here on Earth is all I
- 42:45think it. Seems like it's to see what.
- 42:50Choice we make and for God to give us time, a certain amount
- 42:54of time for each of us to make a decision.
- 42:57To either accept God's. Authority and submit to it.
- 43:03Do. What God wants us to do or rebel
- 43:07against it, and we all kind of start out as.
- 43:10Rebellious. To God until a certain point and
- 43:13it's a different time in everybody's life and I don't
- 43:16know. Why?
- 43:19But God does. And and we have a time frame,
- 43:24but when we are feeling like. We.
- 43:27Should probably submit to God. I think that's probably wise.
- 43:31To do it. Because I think at that point
- 43:34things are only going to get worse in our life.
- 43:36If we resist it. If God knows.
- 43:39That our heart is really. With Him, but we're just
- 43:41struggling with some things. We're going to struggle with a
- 43:43lot more. I think that's just what I've
- 43:46seen. So the sooner we turn to God and
- 43:50ask for forgiveness for rebelling against Him, and the
- 43:54sooner we become obedient. The better off we will.
- 43:58Be because God does not give us a.
- 44:01Spirit of fear, we won't be. Afraid anymore and.
- 44:06We will have God's. Protection God will be with us
- 44:09through whatever comes across our path.
- 44:13So let's see this the debate will undoubtedly continue of.
- 44:18Course it will. Like some people think God just
- 44:21makes people do things. Other people think we have free
- 44:23will. As for Jeremiah, though he tried
- 44:26to back out of the calling at least once, he found that he
- 44:30couldn't. If I say I will not mention His
- 44:33word or speak any more in His name.
- 44:35His word is in my heart like a fire, A fire shut up in my
- 44:42bones. I am weary of holding it in,
- 44:44indeed I cannot. So I think that's.
- 44:48Kind of like the Holy Spirit, I think the holy.
- 44:50Spirit. Just when when we've aligned
- 44:55ourselves with God or maybe accepted God, the Holy Spirit is
- 45:00within us and the Holy Spirit's going to keep on giving us that
- 45:04feeling of like, I just can't do this anymore.
- 45:08I've got to be obedient to God. And I think that's what Jeremiah
- 45:12was that that's my own personal opinion, but OK.
- 45:15What northern kingdoms would attack Judah in Babylon along
- 45:20with her allies, although Babylon was actually.
- 45:22Located east of Judah. The normal military route from
- 45:26Babylon to Judah was not a straight line east to West.
- 45:30Instead, the Babylonians had to travel around the expansive
- 45:34Arabian desert that lay between Babylon and Judah.
- 45:38The attackers from the east would therefore enter Judah from
- 45:42the north, and then, it says, because of their wickedness.
- 45:49Read the. Read about the wickedness
- 45:51Jeremiah confronted during his early years in Second Kings
- 45:55Chapter 23 and Second Chronicles chapter. 30. 4 These passages
- 46:00show the extent. Of Judah's idolatry.
- 46:03And King Josiah's attempts to curb it, both before and after
- 46:08Jeremiah's call. How could Jeremiah get ready he
- 46:13needed? To be utterly.
- 46:14Realistic about the tough challenge ahead, his words would
- 46:17be unpopular and the. People would be hostile.
- 46:21He would have to prepare mentally and emotionally for
- 46:24opposition and challenge. More important, Jeremiah needed
- 46:28to commit himself completely to God, who promised to keep him
- 46:32strong. Whatever happened.
- 46:35So that is everything from the study Bible now to actually I
- 46:41might just stop. This.
- 46:42Recording and then do a short separate talk about this.
- 46:49Word of God. And the word of the?
- 46:52Lord. Which came to mind when I was
- 46:57thinking about our, when we were talking about Jeremiah, because
- 47:02the word of the Lord came to him.
- 47:04And, and that's what I think I'll just do a separate one
- 47:07because it's already 45 minutes long and maybe somebody doesn't
- 47:10want to make it much longer than that.
- 47:12So I'll stop here. And next time we'll do chapter
- 47:172. And in between I will have a
- 47:19talk about the the Rapture.
