All right, getting there, getting there [upbeat music]
• 0:20
I was gonna let it go as long as Ron does, but I'm not doing that So, like, at six- Thank you... 18 minutes? [laughs] Don't do what Ron does. Thank God he's gonna call in so we can harass him. Don't call a Ron. No.
• 0:32
Don't, don't be a Ron. I need a music bed. There's worse people to be than Ron. There you go. There you go. Don't call- Oh, for sure... don't call a Ron, no... for sure, for sure. Don't be a Ron. Oh, Ron.
• 0:43
Ron, Ron, oh, Ronnie Ron. That's my Harry Potter impression. Oh, Ron. Oh, Ron, oh. Better Ron than a- Then what's the-... Elon...
• 0:55
what's, what are those Hobbit clowns where everybody's crying and so emotional, the whole three- Sam? Sam, oh Sam- Sam? Sam and Frodo? Hey. Oh, Sam. Maybe we should do some introductions here, Sven.
• 1:05
Um- You know the story... Sven, Sven's over here, and, uh, JK's over there, and, uh- Yes, these are the stories you want to hear about... Tony's over there, and then also we do have a Sam in the studio today.
• 1:15
I want to hear more about Sam. [laughs] Oh. I just got finished reading The Hobbit. It's Sam D, ladies and gentlemen. Again? [laughs] Sam D's up in here again. I'm in the Tolkien universe. And again.
• 1:28
Sam brought his fancy ass fat bike in with his new- Oh... sturdy bag designs, kickass- Oh, it's a luxe... frame bag. Oh, that's gotta go in the show notes. Yep, it's, it's- Get it right in there...
• 1:40
a guy named Joe at Sturdy Bags in Minneapolis. I tell you, it, I- Think I should call in... I couldn't be happier. This guy took such good care of me. I, I, I- Your face... downright love the dude [laughs]
• 1:51
I did, I, who knows? Strongly recommend- Joe, Joe's been on the show, hasn't he? Yes, he has. Yeah, I'm pretty sure, yes. Joe and I have the same year and color Subaru. Nice. Is that weird or what?
• 2:00
How'd you blow up your Subaru already? Tony blew his- I- Tom blew up his Subaru already.
• 2:04
Molly called me at 7:05 in the morning on Monday, and you know, what a great way to start a morning, saying, "I pushed the clutch to the floor and it doesn't come back."
• 2:11
"I pushed the clutch to the floor and ernee, ner, ner, ner, nee, nee, nee, nee, nee, nee, nee." And I'm like, "What?" She's like, "Yeah, it literally has not even moved."
• 2:17
She's like, "I'm on, I'm, I've just left Estherberg Park." I'm like, "Ah, shit." Maybe something just broke. Does it need a new clutch maybe? It had a new clutch installed, like, less than 10,000 miles ago. Huh.
• 2:28
Did they install it properly? Maybe that's the issue. Apparently not. [laughs] Ah, there you go then. So we're, we're gonna find out what happens here, but whatever. It's, this ain't a c- talk about Subarus.
• 2:38
This is a podcast about bikes and shit. Is it? I was just talking to some fellas- Not Subaru...
• 2:43
a little bit earlier while I was having a pre-show beer at a local establishment about how if we weave in 15 minutes of bikes on this show, we're doing pretty well. [laughs] Oh, yeah. Let's start with my bike story then.
• 2:53
I was riding my bicycle- But-... listening to Clutch. See? See? A clutch story right there. A clutch story. Well, the clutch was going out on him over there in Estherberg. And the clutch was out of my car.
• 3:02
There's always a tie-in. Yep. Freak and Frack, we're not even into this for a couple minutes, we already got a caller. [sighs] Hey, welcome to the radio program, caller. Who do we have on the line?
• 3:15
Am I technically a caller? I guess. Well, you called, didn't you? You called, didn't you? [laughs] Yeah, you're checking all the boxes. Ding, ding, ding. Well, someone did. What do you mean?
• 3:24
Did you hand the phone to your wife, she called and then handed it to you? Well, she was going to. Oh. One of the dogs pushed the button 'cause they wanted to go in, they wanted to come back out. Then- Oh...
• 3:32
the other one wanted to go in, the other one wanted to come back out. So then- Tony's a smart dog I, I know those kind of dogs. I have those kind of dogs. [laughs] Ladies and gentlemen, that sounds like Chewy to me.
• 3:40
That sounds like Chewy. Chewy? Chewy, is that you, Chewy? Is that you? It is me. It is Chewy. All right.
• 3:45
Hey, Chewy's got a new, uh, a new episode, well, a new old episode on the old fullspectrumcycling.com website with BMX Brad. Mm. I gotta tell you, folks- Edit, edit... I did something I never, ever do.
• 4:00
Worked on a carbon fiber bike? Nope. I edited Ron's show a little bit. [laughs] We don't edit shows anymore here at the old Full Spectrum 'cause we don't really care that much. Yeah, free speech, man.
• 4:11
But I wanted Ron to f- feel like his show was special, so I did a little editing on it. Nice. Besides that, it was really bad in places. No, no, it was good.
• 4:21
I just had to listen to it all the way through anyway, so I was like, "Well, if I'm gonna listen to it all the way through, I'll take out some ums and ahs heres and theres and get rid of some silences and whatnot," and you probably would never notice, but- Oh, yeah...
• 4:34
I think I did a- He separately shaved, like, 45 minutes off the interview... right, yeah. It was, yeah, it was started out at 46 and now it's six minutes long. Yeah. [laughs] You'd never notice. Yeah.
• 4:42
  No, it's a good show.
• 4:43
You guys get, you guys get really into some good, uh, old school yakking about stuff and, uh, throw a little hockey in there, throw a little, uh, beer in there, throw a little cycling in there and you got a dang old show.
• 4:55
Did you say beer? I should, uh, I'm thinking I should probably just take this system up to, um, the 63 Club after, uh, Sunday night hockey, 'cause that's, that's an essence how our Sunday night hockey conversations go.
• 5:07
Um, we drag those guys out on rides with us occasionally, and, uh, they will... And two of them have e-bikes, so that starts the shit right there. [laughs] Oh, geez. And then [laughs] and then it,
• 5:20
and, and then it just goes from there and, and it's a, we talk about everything. And the only thing I didn't get Brad to do on the two times he's been on with me is I can't get him to start doing his famous, um,
• 5:33
he can, you'll say a phrase and he will start speaking from the movie it came from. Oh. He's really good at that. Well, I think, uh- Unless there's a letter J or J thing... I think he and JK would get right along there.
• 5:41
Oh, yeah. This is, yeah, this is like rap battle. That's a- [laughs] I'll be rap in, in a mile. Well, does this mean I get to drag him over to Milwaukee sometime? Well, yeah, or we could come over there, I guess.
• 5:52
I don't know. It's not like we've- One of us will be-... been to Rochester before... I know where one Chewy lives... one of us will be dragged to the arena. He just had another bike stolen. No. No.
• 6:01
Personally had a bike stolen? Well, not mine, but, um, uh, f- one of the guys that comes out here hangs out in Green Spear ha- I got him an Ogre a few years ago, and they had to go through a lot of work to steal it.
• 6:14
It's in a, um, it's in a secured... Well, obviously not that secure, but a parking garage underneath a, uh, um...
• 6:23
It's a, it's, it's d- connected to the Methodist Hospital, so it's, uh, not really assisted living, but there's, there's medical healthcare there. That's for his wife.
• 6:31
But it was locked, it was locked up in that thing, and they, like, crawled over an air vent and in there and got in and were able to cut the lock and get his bike out of there.
• 6:39
So somebody put a lot of effort into getting it. Maybe it was Jesus. Eh. So is- Jesus stole his bike ride...
• 6:44
are, are they specifically targeting Surlys do you think, or just cycling because you can't buy a new bike at a bike shop to save your life right now?
• 6:53
Actually, if you think about it, they're probably doing all these Surlys because then I c- then I have to order him new bikes, so it c- it could be a setup. It could be a setup.
• 7:02
[laughs] Well, you can't get a Surly right now, though. He can. Oh, you know what? I was, I...
• 7:06
Seriously, I'm just going out here looking now to see the, if there's any chance that there's a large Ogre anywhere in the world, but I doubt it. No. I don't... Do they even make the Ogre anymore? I- Um, I think so...
• 7:18
think that... Well, that would... It was, it's a f- good versatile bike. I would- So- Ogre, Troll, you got a bunch- Well, and-... of those names that are good bikes...
• 7:28
he, well the reason he wanted the Ogre was he can, he can bag it up really good, but he also- Yeah... lives within riding distance, uh, well he's got a cabin within riding distance of Cuyuna. Oh.
• 7:37
Oh, I've heard that's amazing. Yeah, that's someplace I haven't been yet. It's, it just, it's, like, that little bit of a distance, kinda far. How far is it from, uh, Minneapolis, do you think?
• 7:47
Oh, from Minneapolis it's under two hours. Oh, I got a- Nice... hey, I- I've heard an hour and a half or so... got a- No, it's maybe, it's, it's maybe right at two hours, I'll bet. All right.
• 7:54
Well, I gotta go to- It's, it's all highway-... freaking Minneapolis-... the entire way... again this weekend anyway, so who knows? Maybe I'll just- Well, good... roll over that way. There you go.
• 8:01
You know, you can come down and help me move my kid again. Well, that's an option. I'm not sure it's a good one, but it is an option. Are you, are you moving him by e-bike or... Yeah. [laughs] Uh, no. In fact, uh, um,
• 8:15
he's moving, he's actually moving to a little town south of us. He needed to be... He wants to live in Decorah, but, um, Spring Valley is as close to Deco- Decorah- [laughs]...
• 8:23
as he can get and still be fairly close to Rochester. Hmm. So that's where he's moving to. What, with the working and all in Rochester? Yeah, and the k- and the, and the kids are in Rochester, and- Mm-hmm...
• 8:33
and, you know, and he's just far enough outward that housing prices aren't... They're ridiculous, but they're not as ridiculous as they are in Rochester. It's fucking stupid right now.
• 8:44
What's the population of Rochester, ballpark-wise? 106,000. Huh. Yeah. We're- That's about what I figured, yeah... we're like the same, we're, we're just a little bit bigger than Duluth. Copy that.
• 8:55
Duluth is really far away. Yeah. At least from here. Yeah. So yeah, I was- Duluth is- I, I was hoping- Duluth is- Go ahead. You go ahead. No, you go. No, you.
• 9:05
Duluth is a great place to visit, but I wouldn't wanna live there. There you go. I feel that about a lot of c- a lot of areas. Yeah, true that. Yeah. I was hop- Madison...
• 9:13
I was hoping to steal Ron away to Minneapolis this weekend, but for the moving, 'cause, uh, I was gonna glom onto his Geno show.
• 9:22
I mean, you can go up there and do that whenever you want, but it w- [laughs] it would've been fun. No. You would've had fun.
• 9:28
I, I, you know, and I, I, I gotta believe that th- there, this would probably be a good weekend, 'cause I gotta believe there's some sort of shenanigans going on between Geno,
• 9:39
the Surly guys, uh, um, Kurt Paddock and that bunch up there. I, there's gotta be some shenanigans going on since it's a holiday weekend. Shenanigans.
• 9:49
Well, we'll see if we can, uh, s- drum something up, but, uh, I, I got a stupid,
• 9:54
like, not even gonna get into this, stupid doctor's appointment on Friday because I have my own doctor, but our stupid insurance says, "You gotta go see another doctor." I'm like, "But I already have a doctor.
• 10:03
See the guy twice a year. Can't you use what he tells you?" "Nope, gotta go to this guy." I'm like, "Well, whatever."
• 10:08
[laughs] So it's gonna waste four hours of my time because I can't leave until, uh, like, 11:00 on Friday instead of 6:00 or 7:00 in the morning, but thank God those guys need to poke you with a needle and get that red s- corpuscles or whatever the hell those things are.
• 10:23
Corpuscles. Anyway, so I won't get up to Minneapolis till- Why do you have to go up there for that?
• 10:28
I gotta deliver a bike in to Minneapolis because our friends are not going [laughs] to Minneapolis yet that normally deliver these bikes for us. I'm like, "There's three million people up there.
• 10:38
Why don't you go into a bike-friendly town, lots of cyclists, and there's three million people, and they don't go there yet."
• 10:45
We, we, we won't call 'em out by name yet, but if they don't get their shit together, we're gonna have to start [laughs] ranking on 'em. So yeah. So, um, you know, I, I don't know.
• 10:56
I mean, I'm getting paid for it, so it's not like it's a horrendous deal. Yeah. But still, I'd rather drink beer here in Milwaukee than- Drive to Minneapolis... drive 12 hours. [laughs] Eh, I don't know.
• 11:09
I'll hang out up there. I'll probably stay a day or two and- Oh, it's great up there. Yeah. It is. Yeah, we'll figure something out. You gotta love it up there.
• 11:16
Maybe I'll go down- And by the way, yes, Ogre's still in existence. Oh, right on. Oh, nice. Nice. But are they available? That doesn't, [laughs] but that doesn't mean that there's any in stock. [laughs] Right. Right.
• 11:26
Well, you know, I think about, uh, about this time next year I would think we would start to get things back to normal- I agree... in the Surly supply chain.
• 11:35
'Cause you can, you can, like, pre-order stuff for the next year's run, but by the time that happens, they're all gonna be gone anyways, so. Right. Right. Right on. Yes, that was the sound of me opening a beer. Oh, hey.
• 11:48
What kind of beer? Wait a second. Wait, wait, wait, wait. Yeah. [laughs] Wait. We did it. We did it. We'll get to the top of the hill and we'll talk about your beer, we'll talk about our beer. Talk to us.
• 11:59
Uh, this is a, um, it's a, it's a sour. It's called, uh- Mm... Overlord Pastry Sour from a microbrewery called, um, Jurassic, uh, Measures. It's out of, uh, Waconia, Minnesota Oh.
• 12:16
There's a lot of, there's a lot of really good teeny towns in Minnesota that have microbreweries, and people are very proud of them, and they do a nice job. Well, there's a lot of microbreweries- Sounds nice...
• 12:26
  everywhere.
• 12:26
So there's a, there's a local microbrewery that's expanding here in Milwaukee that is, is making a bigger space for them, and they're like, "Well, if there's another brewery that's just starting out, our old space is really nice."
• 12:36
Right. Oh, that's happening a lot now. Well, it's like, "Well, that's really sweet of you. You can just have your competition move right upstairs." [laughs] Mm-hmm. Well,
• 12:43
so many of these in Milwaukee proper are not guys brewing that wanna start something bigger. They're wealthy guys starting breweries. [laughs] Right. And that's a totally different dynamic. I get it, yes.
• 12:57
And that's, I, I'm... it's starting to agitate the fuck outta me personally. That's kinda how I- Yeah, it is, you know-... see it that way... anyway.
• 13:05
The- Well, then you, you get your Indeed here- Everyone trying to get a piece-... and you hire your guy, and, uh, you know. Indeed is...
• 13:09
I don't think, I, I, I have not fully researched Indeed, but I do not think that's how they started. I don't think they're a bunch of wealthy dudes that just said, "Let's start a brewery."
• 13:17
Maybe not, but they do have a Milwaukee brewmaster. But there is, you know, Good City. Milwaukee brewmaster. Oh, you know. Are you talking about Indeed out of Minneapolis? Yes.
• 13:25
Yeah, they have, like, they have- They're, they have a tasting room here... they've got... Well, it's not just a tasting room. It's a full- It's a brewery... it's a full-on brewery. Yeah, we have a brewery here.
• 13:31
Matter of fact, we're gonna be going- Oh, okay... we're gonna be going there and doing show number 116 of the old Full Spectrum Cycling Show- Yes. Yes, we are... live at Indeed Brewing. Oh. They make a fantastic beer.
• 13:42
That's so fun. Yeah, it does sound like fun. Yeah, you should come.
• 13:43
It's, it's in conjunction with the old Bike Fed of Wisconsin, and, uh, they do this thing at Indeed every Wednesday called Indeed We Can, and it's always a nonprofit that benefits from whatever benefit they get from benefiting at Indeed Brewing.
• 13:57
Ch- Chewy would know that if he ever listened to one of our shows. Oh. Oh. I only listen, I only listen to the... I write, I take notes of the stuff I need to bitch about, which is pretty much the whole thing. E-bikes.
• 14:08
Wasn't that why you called in today? Didn't you have something to bitch about or- Well, yeah, I'll-... or-...
• 14:11
well, as I had mentioned to Tony, first of all, that the e-bike you keep trying to blast on Facebook- Mm-hmm, mm-hmm... the Rotisserie or whatever the hell it's called. Mm-hmm. [laughs] The Rotisserie. Perfect.
• 14:25
[laughs] Yes, it's called- It's, uh, I-... the Rotisserie. I don't think I've had, I don't think I've had a comment last more than 15 seconds on there. [laughs] Right? It's usually- Well, oh, they just land- Seriously...
• 14:36
they just, uh, take it- They hate it... oh, the... Nice. Yeah. I wish I could be a business. And it's a Denver company. That's the funniest part about it. Is it really? Yeah, it- A China- No, it probably isn't, but-...
• 14:45
a China-based, a China-based Denver company? But you have to watch the videos. They're polished, man. They got serious models. Like, like, they never once pedal.
• 14:54
Every video they put on that Indiegogo or whatever it is page, never once do you see anyone pedaling this, quote, unquote, bicycle. [laughs] It's just like, you guys are- The one I like the best is the,
• 15:10
the one I like the best is the one where the guy is on there, and they're... He's not pedaling. He's on a sidewalk in a downtown street- Yes... and they're bragging about that it can go 40 miles an hour. Yes.
• 15:18
[laughs] It's like- He, he would've got a ticket down in Milwaukee's Lakefront today 'cause Officer Friendly was down there with his laser. Nice.
• 15:27
[laughs] There, there was- [laughs] One of the comments I read, Chewy, was, "There was a time when you read a moped like this that you got beat up." [laughs] And I was like- Yeah... "That's so perfect."
• 15:38
I think deja vu's in order here, son. Yeah. I mean- When you play the, uh- That, that thing is-... Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, and then you knock over- And-... the, uh, little moped, which is the Faggio or Faggio.
• 15:49
Faggio. [laughs] It, it- [laughs] I mean, but seriously- You know, it's, it's in that zone... seriously, companies like this give... And, too, I know you're not a big e-bike guy, like, or a e-bike guy at all, but
• 16:01
this is the kind of shit that, like, took down 70s solar. It's like all these fly-by-night companies are like, "Let's make this ridiculous bike." Not Bike Night. Oh, nice. Oh, wait.
• 16:11
[laughs] Um, you know, this is the kind of- Well, like you said, you, you can't even... It's, it's a motorcycle. You can't even adjust the seat height. Right. Right. Right. Isn't it? I mean, I, and I'm...
• 16:22
I think they're dodging, they're trying to do this to dodge the, "Oh, I have to license it if it's a moped or a motorcycle."
• 16:30
If it goes- Well, if it's a bicycle- Or it's like the same thing that they did with- I thought you turned your phone off. [laughs] That was my other phone. [laughs] Yeah. This is the bat phone. Right, though?
• 16:40
I mean, it's just- Mm, mm-mm-mm. But they're basically trying to do the same thing that they did with mopeds. They're trying to avoid it being a, a licensed vehicle- Right... by putting pedals on it. Absolutely.
• 16:53
You're not fooling me. What? Ha ha ha. Oh. And, and the other thing, not to, to get nerdy on it, but there's no way that battery on that bike can do 50-mile range, but that's a whole nother topic of ridiculousness.
• 17:07
[laughs] Well, it, it can at, like, four miles an hour possibly. Right. Not at 40 miles. With you pedaling it, which they never do. Right. Mm. It is a ridi- But it is a- It's, it's almost as bad as the Baby Maker.
• 17:19
It might be worse. But the Baby Maker never pulled your comments that quickly. Do not, to put the Baby Maker on the rotisseries, you know. I, I dig it, though. So we're going into a very Eli Roth, uh, horror vein here.
• 17:32
You know, we, we- So we never talked about what we're drinking... we never talked about our beers. Yeah, we have four, four of these things here. To our beers and show. Uh, Tony, Tony brought these in.
• 17:40
These are, uh, Horses and Hand Grenades. Yee-haw. Pale ale, brewed and canned in Amherst, Wisconsin. It's, that's really- Is that where they're from? Man... dang old good beer. Apparently it's- Says so right on the can.
• 17:51
I'm only reading what it says on here... brewed in Canned in Amherst apparently. I just know they play the big- Not, not Plover or- Plover is where, um, it's Oso and the other one that lives in Plover.
• 17:59
You know what I mean? The band H- Horses and Hand Grenades. Yeah. They play that big thing every year apparently, the big Central Waters Oso- Yep. Yeah... get-together thing.
• 18:06
And that's why they named the beer after them. It's a pretty tasty pale ale. It's not overly strong. Kinda nice flavor. Of course, we did start with-...
• 18:15
you know, Central Waters, a different Central Waters, which is pretty s- or, uh, Central Waters and then we switched to an Oso. Never mind. I'm gonna stop talking. Actually, we're using one from Central Waters.
• 18:25
Central Waters. They're all Central Waters. They're all Central Waters, that's right. Just, just letting you know. Oso is the other one. I'm sorry. I'm sorry, guys. We're gonna mix up these show notes something fierce.
• 18:35
There ain't no show notes. Oso is Brevard. I'm sorry. Hey, here's- Sam-... Sammers... this is Central, yeah, this is Central Waters... but they're right next door. Yeah, they're- Maybe, maybe Chewy- Massachusetts?...
• 18:43
can come down here at the end of, uh- They get together on things... at the end of June, 'cause got an offer to get the hell out of this place early and save some rent, so. Oh. Ooh. If we can get... Hey, we got a door.
• 18:53
He needs popcorn, too, probably. We got a door. We got a door at the other joint now, the new joint. We got a door. [laughs] As everyone looks at the door. I did hear that. [laughs] And then, uh, and then- I did, too.
• 19:01
[laughs] I'm like- Well, I, I put, I put the feet to the fire of the guy. I said, "Can you assure me that we're gonna have electricity by the end of June?" He's like, "Maybe."
• 19:11
I'm like, "Well, this is a con- I need a concrete answer, 'cause if I'm gonna commit to leaving this place at the end of June, I need power over there.
• 19:20
Otherwise, we'll go to the end of July or the end of August, 'cause I got a lease here till August." But he says, "No, we can freaking do it." I'm like, "Oh,
• 19:29
now we gotta move this stuff outta here in less than [laughs] five weeks? I don't know if that's a good idea or a bad one." So yeah. It's doable. Fun, fun s- it's doable. I, I thought it was done.
• 19:40
But you can come down here that weekend. I thought it was done moving. You can come down here and help us move, 'cause you like moving people, you know, Casey and all and whatnot. Yeah. Um, last week in June, it's open.
• 19:52
Yeah, the, uh, the- I probably have a... The, you know, the, uh, the Back to the '50s is back on up in Minneapolis, if you get any, any car nuts out there. Um, it's a... It, it fills the entire state fairgrounds.
• 20:06
It's, um, I don't know, they've had as many as, I think they've had over 14,000 street rods under the, under 1964 and older. Wow. Well, that's a lot of cars. [laughs] Interesting. Yeah, and it, and it, and it draws...
• 20:18
And, you know, and I figure there's two to three people in every car, and it brings in, I don't know, I suppose a million, million and a half people just to walk through the place. It's just, it's a sea of people.
• 20:27
It's pretty cool. And because of COVID and everything else, and because of our governor, they're not letting anybody know, so they canceled it, and then about two weeks later, the governor opened everything up.
• 20:37
So they're just like, "Shit, they couldn't have told 'em that then?" So they, they put it back on, so we're going. So that's the weekend before we'd come down there, but that would still be... That opens it up.
• 20:46
Oh, uh, speaking of coming down there, are you still thinking about that August 28th? Oh, yeah. That's, uh...
• 20:53
So Steel is Real, it would typically be in, uh, September, probably the second weekend, but because Summerfest is, due to COVID, in September this year instead of June like it would normally be,
• 21:07
I, I thought maybe we would just do Steel is Real, you know, that last week, weekend. When, when will I know when my birthday is?
• 21:15
'Cause it's alway- August 28th of- 'Cause, no, it's always around me birthday weekend is when the Steel is Real. I won't know when my birthday is then. [laughs] I don't know. I, I just think there's gonna be a...
• 21:28
I, I haven't seen live music in a long time- Oh, sure, yeah... and I just think there's gonna be a lot of shows there I might wanna see.
• 21:33
And if, if, if a whole day of, you know, bike fuckery is gonna happen and it's gonna take away from seeing, uh, I don't know, Jerry Harrison and Adrian Belew or something, and be like, "Yeah, maybe I wanna go see those guys," 'cause they're not gonna be around for that much longer.
• 21:47
Right, right, right. Steel is Real will be around forevers. And s- Under s- under some guys or another. [laughs] And, and, and syncing with polka. Fricking Riot is- That is an undetermined-... uh-...
• 21:58
and/or not completely- You already said it... produced. It's gonna be sexy. I thought... Didn't, I didn't say anything about it. Yeah, you did. Not today. Yeah, you did. No, I didn't. Just minutes ago. No, I didn't.
• 22:07
[laughs] Seconds ago. Well. Well, this is where they get it, buddy. I, I guess all one of our listener will know now that that's- You-... that's a possibility... you just were touting how you can edit shit, so edit that.
• 22:19
I'm not editing this show at all. This show's not gonna have- Wow, well... this show is- Well... yeah. The reason I bring it up- We're revolutionary now... is that would be the perfect weekend for it. Yeah?
• 22:28
The reason I bring it up is that would be the perfect weekend for, uh, we would... Uh, the weekend before that is, uh- My birthday... Single Speed USA in Portland. Not Portland.
• 22:37
A little town north of Portland, Maine, and that would mean that Spinner and I and Pat Mersch from Drunk Cyclist could probably just head back from there and go right to Milwaukee. Jesus Christ, no.
• 22:47
That would be a good thing. [laughs] Hey, speaking of Pat, see if he can go stick his finger in, uh, State Bicycle's ear to get us some Clunkers a little quicker than the average bear.
• 22:58
I saw that they're not coming out until July now, right? Yeah, that's, yeah, true, so. I just... We have five waiting to, you know, get off the boat or whatever. I don't know.
• 23:09
I, I, uh, haven't talked to those guys for a bit. I'd be interested to see what they're, what, what is the reason for that they still think July is gonna be the, the day or the, the month. It might...
• 23:21
Better putting it the month- Yeah, yeah... you know, rather than the day. Yeah, well, well, when they come here, we're gonna have fun with them.
• 23:26
When they aren't here, we'll have fun with other bikes, but, uh, I already have one of them sold. [laughs] Ken Nielsen wants one. Of course.
• 23:35
[laughs] Um, yeah, I don't know that we'll get through the race series before we sell all the bikes, but, you know. Are they disc brake or are they- No, they're coaster brake, you clown... you know, clip on?
• 23:45
I thought for Ken, I thought for Ken, you'd just throw a 24-inch wheel on it, 'cause, you know, every time I see him, he's hugging fucking what's-his-name's 24-inch. Oh, the old, uh- One by one... the old rat rod.
• 23:55
Yeah, the, yeah. Rat. What was it called? Was that, uh, Surly, Chewy? The 24-inch with the big tires? Rat Ride. Yeah. It's basically a one by one with 20, 20- The Rat, sorry, the dogs are barking. Yeah, the Rat Rod.
• 24:05
Yeah. I actually have one of those still. Rat Rod. Somebody else has got...
• 24:07
It, alls it i- so the only thing is is it's a one by one frame, so the original, the original w- uh, how they were gonna do it was the company was gonna be called One by One, and the one by one was gonna be called the Rat Rod.
• 24:20
Hmm. And, and, um, uh, I can't remember if it was Andy or if it was Nick found the... I think it was Andy, because Andy was kinda the graphics guy, and I think he found all the stickers from the original ones.
• 24:35
And that's, that's how, you know, and of course, the Rat White Rod was their 11th-year anniversary, 'cause they kinda forgot about having a 10-year anniversary. [laughs] Of the, of the original One by One. Yes. Right.
• 24:46
Right. And then they switched the company just early, and One by One became the One by One. Right on. All right. What else do we have going on? Uh, just a, a quick one from Sheboygan.
• 25:01
July 10th, the Salvation Ride. You can apparently be saved up there. Oh, uh, of course you can. Or, it's benefiting the Salvation Army, one or the other, but, uh- Or same thing, basically...
• 25:12
July 10th up there in Sheboygan if you wanna- This weekend is the-... go that way... thing in Oshkosh, which I'm gonna be stuck working on my house, so I can't- Oh, we're not gonna go to that? I can't.
• 25:19
Oh, it sounded like a good beer- Brewery-... brewery-... ride-ery-... call-... thing... thing. Oh. I gotta finish this fucking house. Sorry, so there's nothing new with the show notes. There are no show notes.
• 25:29
We don't do that here. Okay. Well, we do, but we don't. Yeah. All right, well- Oh, going back to beer- Beer? Going back to beer and drinking- You? If you, I just, I just saw on the news today that, in Decorah, that,
• 25:45
uh, the, the building there, if you remember, the building we rode by several times that looks like it's, it was the old lumberyard and it's being remodeled, is going to be a cider works place. Mm.
• 25:56
So just think, that's another place to drink four blocks from my house down there. In Decorah, they got the cider now. Mm-hmm. Yep. Wonder, is it- Well-... is it the hard cider?
• 26:05
Uh, I was at a meeting- Oh, the gluten-free people?... before I even got the license. It's like, uh, what do they call it? Malt liquor, right, pretty much? It's like a Zima. Tastier.
• 26:14
[laughs] It, yeah, I think it's for people with Celiac. [laughs] Ow. I went deep into the bag of holding there. Yeah. [laughs] You drunk a Zima. It, it came back, didn't it, a little bit?
• 26:23
God, that stuff was- That's right. You know what Zima- Some sort of- That's right... I'll tell you what Zima went really well with, is vodka. Yeah, same thing with White Claw.
• 26:30
[laughs] It's like a, it's a great, yeah- Throw, throw a little vodka in there and that stuff is great... yeah, you get like, you know, 15% ABV rocket ship, and you just brap, and don't even taste anything.
• 26:41
Yeah, that sounds like a recipe for fucking destruction. [laughs] Well, yeah, if you wanna catch up to folks that have been drinking before you- That's the way to do it...
• 26:47
and you wanna get on that mental plane- Mm-hmm... that's your- Uh-huh. You don't wanna be the last wheel of the old tricycle there. [laughs] It is known. Okay. [laughs] It is known. I have spoken. Okay.
• 27:00
[laughs] I guess I don't. All right. I've never tried to be, but if I have- All right, Mandalorian [laughs] Actually, it's a line in The Hobbit as well. Same thing. It's basically the same thing.
• 27:12
[laughs] All right, Ron- I guess-... any final thoughts before we wrap this rascal up here? I've got nothing. [laughs] There's a rascal.
• 27:21
First of all, I'm not sure you had anything the whole show, but now would be the time to redeem yourself. Do a call. I do, I do need to send you pictures of my latest crash, though. Oh, Jesus Christ. What?
• 27:31
Now we're talking. [laughs] What'd you dislocate now? I, I, wh- uh, well, it's the other shoulder, so it's not quite as sore as, as the previous crash, but it's, kinda falls in the same line, only in a different place.
• 27:46
Um- Going for the matching set... I, and those, uh, the All-City, the All-City, I can't remember what the, name of the pedals are.
• 27:51
The, the little white ones that are sharp as all get out, really make your shins look really nice. Oh, yeah. [laughs] I bet they do. Pedals. They do have these things- Oh, yeah... called shin guards for the BMX folks.
• 28:02
Yeah. Maybe you wanna kinda figure that out for yourself. I'm gonna have to. [laughs] Or, you know, just be on the- I also think we dealt that-... plasma bank call list.
• 28:11
From my first crash, I also realized la- on Tuesday night, on our Tuesday night ride, I was staring down at the ground 'cause I was tired of trying to keep up with people on geared bikes, and I noticed that my [laughs] since that crash, my fork is bent.
• 28:23
[laughs] Oh. Oh. Oops. On, on which bike? On my, on my Handsome. On my, uh, Handsome Speedy. I rem- oh. It's a kind of a bummer, 'cause it does have a custom paint job on it. It's- Uh, so- Oh...
• 28:36
it's not your sho- is it your shop bike? Um, the only thing is I- Is it the shop bike that I rode? No, not the shop bike. No. Oh, that's such a nice bike.
• 28:41
It's, it's, it's, uh, it's the, it's the Devil, but they put a, a custom paint job on it from, uh, who did it? I can't remember who did it for him, but it's called the Speedy.
• 28:51
Um, it's, it's a pretty sharp-looking paint job, and it's kind of a cool-looking bike. Um, but, uh, I, uh,
• 28:58
I, a few, I bought out an older gentleman that was fixing bikes in his garage and I bought all of his stuff, and I got a fork-straightening tool, and now I get to figure out how to use it. Huh. Yeah, yeah.
• 29:07
I'm kinda excited. Kinda like bending stuff with it. And then you're gonna need a derailleur ali- Yeah, exactly... or you're gonna need a, uh, dropout alignment gauge too, which goes in the fork to make sure that your-
• 29:19
Aligned... your, your dropouts are aligned. Totally. Which you can use on the front or rear- Oh, well-... of your bike. I've got one if you need one. Yeah. Well, I think I...
• 29:28
Okay, 'cause I was gonna say, otherwise, if I remember correctly, the guy just uses a hub. That'll work.
• 29:33
Yeah, I guess you could do that, but- 'Cause it fits, it fi- it fits in the, the, the, the one picture I found of it, it actually fits in the slots.
• 29:40
I think this thing is actually from the '50s, and it's probably made for a straight-blade, uh, steel fork, is probably what it, like off of an old Schwinn, is probably what it's for.
• 29:48
I sure wouldn't use that on a carbon fork. That would be just- Hmm... plain stupid. [laughs] Oh, no. If this is a carbon fork. That's exactly what you use on a carbon fork. [laughs] Snap. Oh, dang. That fork's toast.
• 29:57
That thing's broke. Speaking of bent things and, uh, shoulder injuries, after, uh, the Battle Tank went down, I do recall it was the Fat Tire Tour
• 30:07
of Milwaukee, and we were riding down the Hank Aaron, and you were behind me going like, "Tony-" Jimmy Berger was behind him It's like, "Dude, I think your frame is bent." And yeah By like two inches. Yeah, exactly.
• 30:20
It is. It's like a- That was pretty bad... couple of inches. It's, it's, it's definitely. But I, the body doesn't notice that, it just compensates and whatever.
• 30:27
You were literally like, you were literally, your front end to your back end [laughs] was two inches different. Oh my God.
• 30:33
I like watched the- I only noticed it- I watched you go down the hill, I'm like, "That ain't right" I, and I kept riding, and I still, you know, on occasion will.
• 30:40
But I mean, like during, in the snow or fresh little snow, it's, that's when you see it. Right. [laughs] When you see the tracks and it's like- Yeah, when you-... "Oh, shit."
• 30:48
[laughs] In a, in a bad car accident, you call it a dog track when, when someone has a car that's bent, has a bent frame. That's what your bike is, man. This is like two, two snakes going along together- [laughs] Yes...
• 30:59
but not in the same path. Right. [laughs] Hey- Yeah, he does that Everything you were saying, Chewy, was like eerily reminiscent. I'm like, wait a minute.
• 31:07
[laughs] Chewy, I gotta, I gotta, I gotta make one little, uh, notice here about that Handsome shop bike. Remember how nice that thing is- Mm-hmm... and how I was riding it and how great it was?
• 31:14
And then Ziegel said, "Oh, I've got a Steve Knievel version of that bike," which he was, wants to- Great. He should get it... wants to trade. He wants to trade for something.
• 31:24
But I haven't seen pictures of it yet, and I've, I, I just wanna know what he wants to trade for. Is it his third born child, or is it something a little more attainable? 'Cause I loved how that bike rode.
• 31:36
But is, isn't it a fun-riding bike? Yeah, it's just, it's like perfect for what it's for I, I really sadly don't bike much, and I know the, the last time I was up to Je- up to Handsome's shop, um,
• 31:47
they, 'cause you know, last year when we were dealing with all this stuff, that was really the only place I could get a bicycle to sell.
• 31:53
And, um, he had a few, he had a few, uh, of the matte black Handsome Devils around there, so I, I picked up a couple and sold them. But, um, he had two of them hanging up on the wall.
• 32:03
One was complete, one was just a frame and fork, and I so badly wanted to ask him if he wanted to sell them, 'cause I don't think they're his.
• 32:10
I don't, I don't know if they're just there for nostalgia or what the deal is, but that's a fun-riding bike. Yep.
• 32:19
I, well, I, even if I'm just a custodian of this thing, like Pat can have first right of refusal if I ever wanna sell it. I wanna at least have it to ride around town for a year or something on, just 'cause it's...
• 32:30
I don't know. I mean, I have a, my own coaster brake bike, which I spent way more money than that thing could possibly have cost on, and it- [laughs]... it's great, but it's not that bike. Hmm. You know?
• 32:40
I mean, it's, it's good- Yeah... but it's not- That bike... I think I might change the handlebars. It's got the, uh, meal replacement bars for money on it, but maybe it's not the right bars for that bike.
• 32:50
That's, those seem like more ripping trails bars- Mm... than riding the bars bars. [laughs] Riding the bars bars. Yeah. Yeah, hike the bars. Behind the bars or top of the bars or over the bars or liquor stores bars.
• 32:58
Like I said, I think it was, I think it was made to run the liquor store from one-on-one when it was downtown. Yeah, yeah, for sure. Yeah. Yeah, see. Yeah. Yeah. And just like every show, Ron Jon- Yep...
• 33:09
he, he makes us go overtime. Yeah. Yeah, see. Yeah. Yeah. He says, he says- That's all right... "Guys, don't worry about it. We'll just go for another 10." We'll just sit around and- Yeah...
• 33:16
have a few beers and smoke- And listen to the radio... and listen to the radio. Radio. [laughs] Love that. There's no law against it. [laughs] All righty, I'll, I'll get outta here, you guys can close down the popular.
• 33:28
Yeah, get outta here. All right, Ron, thanks for calling. It was great to have you on the show, and uh, hope we see you- You bet, guy... hey, who knows, I might help you move Casey, I'm not even sure. Well, wookie.
• 33:37
I like that. All right, I'll talk to you guys later. See you. Okay, brother. Bye. Get outta here. Always a good show when Chewy Joe's in. Chew- Chewy, Chewy's- Chewy Joe's, Joe's in... he's, he's- Joe's in.
• 33:46
First of all- [laughs] Yeah, I was gonna say, just bulldoze through it, but yeah. Just keep talking. Hopefully no one noticed that. You paused. You paused. Yeah, thank you. You bulldozed through that.
• 33:53
I gotta tell you this- He's the show... I think Chewy's show's better than our show. Chewy's show- His guys are good... don't say that. He just had Hurl on, dude. Hurl is great. That was a great show.
• 34:01
You should listen to that. Is he doing them weekly? No. All right then. Unfortunately, I kinda spaced on where they were, so there's a couple in the can right now.
• 34:09
[laughs] Um, so the BMX Brad one was done in, actually done in December. Hmm. And then they did one for the Beer Sentry in Arizona. Oh.
• 34:20
And then he did another one with Brad and Barry later, like in February or something.
• 34:23
But we'll get those up because [laughs] we listened to them in Decorah a couple weeks ago and I'm like, "Wow, these are really good shows. [laughs] We should probably put those on the thing with the deal- Mm-hmm...
• 34:31
and the, they can hear him and stuff." So, uh, yeah. He's gonna wanna go ahead and do another one though- Well-... so we got another one in the can.
• 34:38
I, I should probably show something to that, um, Enlightened, I got a weird email from Enlightened and I added it to the show notes because there was gonna be this big celebration this weekend with Joe Huber playing.
• 34:51
I'm like, "Oh, this is gonna be great." Oh, I love that. And it turned out it was- This last weekend... last weekend. [laughs] Oh. And it was- So I re-emailed them like- And it was Jim Huber... I'm like- Yeah.
• 34:59
And it was Jim that time anyway. [laughs] Yeah, yeah, yeah. And emailed them like- Back to Denver... "Um, why am I getting this now?" Bye Bob. And, but they did say- I love a cherry...
• 35:07
"Please stop in and check out our, we have four new super happy beers." Oh. And they offered to check me out, like if they're not even open, just to like knock and be like, "You know, we want our show beer."
• 35:19
And they asked us the name of the, they asked me the name of the podcast, so I think we should stop at Enlightened and get some- Stop to check you out. Let me go knock, knock...
• 35:25
get some Enlightened 'cause they have some great beers. Knock I actually know Tommy very well. I knew him, uh, years before he opened it. Nice. Just such a golden, just- Yeah... wonderful human being.
• 35:35
And quite frankly, fantastic beer. Oh, I really do like it, yeah. They, they make a great beer. That cream one, uh, the, the Brit's cream. Uh, uh, that, that and the, um, In- Impairment or- Yes...
• 35:48
that was just- Impairment... Impair it. Impair it. [laughs] It does impair you. It does impair you. Very appropriate. That's a great beer. That's a great name of a fucking beer.
• 35:57
[laughs] All right, everybody, thanks for listening. And, uh, have a good week, and by cracky, I guess we'll be back here next week if anybody- Crack your bike Cracky! Cracky! Crack your bike.
• 36:08
  [upbeat music] We
• 36:34
are sorry, but the show has ended. Goodbye. [beeping]
