- 0:00Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Three O Take, where we talk
- 0:04all things Major League Baseball.
- 0:06Here's Kyle Corwin and Nate Reyes.
- 0:10It all starts right now. Welcome back to the three O take
- 0:16presented by Sea Geek. This episode 518.
- 0:18I'll be your host Kyle Cord. I'm here with my Co host Nate
- 0:21Reyes. Nate.
- 0:24HIPAA. So Poppy, how you doing?
- 0:26What's going on? Just just another Sunday in the
- 0:31life, you know what I mean? Another Sunday in the life.
- 0:35Look, the reality of it is we got.
- 0:37Well, let's address the elephant in the room.
- 0:39We didn't get to an episode at the end of last week.
- 0:42Yeah. You know, just life.
- 0:46Yeah, just life gets in the way. Life gets in the way.
- 0:53But we are back. And unfortunately, the reality
- 0:55of it is we got some bad news to talk about here.
- 1:01I mean some downer stuff. Is anything, is anything going
- 1:05right in in Major League Baseball right now with the
- 1:08health of these players with, you know, playoff odds are being
- 1:13impacted by by some of these teams getting off the slow
- 1:15starts with due to due to these injuries and so on and so forth.
- 1:22We just, we just, it's going to be a downer episode.
- 1:25I hate. Well, no, no, no, no, no.
- 1:26We're going to be fine. We're going to lose.
- 1:28I don't want to. I don't want to lose.
- 1:30People like that, but I just. Wanted to let people know if
- 1:33you're still with us, buckle up. Is that better?
- 1:39There you go. If you haven't dropped his yet,
- 1:43we'll. Start with a We'll start with a
- 1:44positive update here. Got some good news for the For
- 1:48All Star Week in Atlanta. My flight is now booked.
- 1:53All right, the rental car is now booked.
- 1:57All right, boxes are getting checked.
- 1:59And the rental property has been booked.
- 2:02Boxes are getting big checked. So we have to figure out your
- 2:08flight because I'm trying to, I am trying to get this finalized
- 2:16so we can just look forward to getting down there.
- 2:19Have a good old time. That's right.
- 2:22I'm stoked, I'm real stoked. I love that ballpark, but I was
- 2:27also like with people that didn't necessarily want to nerd
- 2:31out the same way that I wanted to nerd out.
- 2:34So luckily, you being a fellow nerd, it's it's going to help a
- 2:38lot going back and just taking it in a little differently, you
- 2:41know, not to mention this would be a freaking show, man.
- 2:46Stars everywhere. I'm looking forward to it.
- 2:51I'm looking forward to it. I have already mapped out some.
- 2:55As I mentioned. You already mapped out some
- 2:58memorabilia shops I think. I'm going to start looking at
- 3:00food. I think that's, I think that's
- 3:02the next most important. Let's face it, people.
- 3:05People love the food reviews on the blog.
- 3:08Oh. They love it.
- 3:10I mean, it gives us an excuse to eat some good food.
- 3:12It's a right off I, I got to, I got to ask though, if and you,
- 3:19you might know this because you, you've been to Home Run Derby.
- 3:21What's the deal with like the, the days leading up to the
- 3:25festivities or specifically the Derby in the game?
- 3:29Because I'm trying to find information about that whole
- 3:32like red carpet thing, the media availability where you can,
- 3:35where some folks can can get access to players and stuff like
- 3:40that. Like I'm trying to find out more
- 3:42information about this and I can't find anything.
- 3:44I could be wrong. When was when was it in course
- 3:5020 that's when they. 22 That's when they.
- 3:55Took it out of Atlanta. That would have been.
- 3:57Is it 21 or 20? 2021 I think.
- 4:01I don't think they were doing it yet in 21.
- 4:05Yeah. I don't know why, Because.
- 4:07And then after that it was Seattle or no, after that it was
- 4:11LA. Then it was Seattle.
- 4:13Last year. I feel like LA was the first
- 4:17time they they did. I could be wrong.
- 4:21No, last year wasn't Seattle. Last year was.
- 4:27Oh, your boy's rusty. This is, yeah, this is a tough
- 4:31showing. Texas, of course.
- 4:41What year is it? Who are you?
- 4:4420 so. 20. 2, 22 was Coors. No, 21 was Coors.
- 4:51You had it right. You just forgot to mention Texas
- 4:53last year. 21 Coors, Then it was LA, then Seattle, then Texas,
- 4:58now Atlanta. I feel like it started in Lai
- 5:00feel like that's when everything start either LA or or.
- 5:02That makes sense. Seattle OK, so it has I.
- 5:05Don't remember, to be fair, like Coors is a little weird because
- 5:08like you're, you're kind of coming in like there's a lot of
- 5:14different ways to get in the ballpark, obviously, like most
- 5:16places. But like the majority of parking
- 5:20is like behind the field. So you're coming in from like
- 5:24behind right field, right center area, a lot of parking over
- 5:28there. So that's the way we came in
- 5:31both days. And maybe it's just the fact
- 5:34that like, hey, we're on the backside of the stadium.
- 5:36You're just not really like seeing that kind of setup.
- 5:40But I don't know. I feel like we would have
- 5:42remembered having that opportunity.
- 5:45Yeah, to like, to be fair, I mean, it's hours before where
- 5:49these guys are showing up and like their get up and stuff, but
- 5:52yeah. I mean, and also too like, I
- 5:54want an opportunity to be able to meet some folks, like some
- 5:57listeners, some. Viewers like, take a freaking
- 5:59mic in some people's faces, you know, just ask some questions.
- 6:02Yeah, like, I'm trying to get 'cause like, once the Derby
- 6:05starts, once the game starts, like it's going to be tough.
- 6:07But like, you know, these things, these festivities are
- 6:10all day. Like, I want a chance to meet
- 6:11some people. Like, hey, we listen to the
- 6:15show, hey we watch a. Show.
- 6:16Hey, I just want to link up. Yeah, link.
- 6:18Up, I just want to, I just want to link up with some of you
- 6:20folks, some of you kind folks. We've done that before and it's
- 6:24been, it's been great. It's been.
- 6:25Always a hit. It's always a hit.
- 6:27So love that opportunity to be able to do that again, but it's.
- 6:30Such A, and I've said this already before, not to spend too
- 6:33much time in this because I'm sure a lot of people don't care
- 6:35because they aren't going. But if you are going if.
- 6:38You are going. Let us know.
- 6:41Let us know. But I love all the like all the
- 6:42shops and the restaurants and all the stuff that's like
- 6:45surrounding Truist. Like you can, you can be there
- 6:48literally all day. So I don't think it's a problem
- 6:51for us to show up super early, like grab lunch and see some red
- 6:56carpet situation. A.
- 6:58A dream. And then like, you still can go
- 7:01kill time if you can't get into the stadium yet, but there's
- 7:04still plenty of things to do, so I'm looking forward to it.
- 7:08I would love that. Let us talk about no some more
- 7:13good news. I completely forgot I I was.
- 7:15Just you don't want to save this just it's just starting at a
- 7:18peak and then. Again.
- 7:22Crash, Burn. I'm not in a good mental place
- 7:26with these injuries. You got to feel me on this, We
- 7:29got. It no, no, I feel it.
- 7:30But like, we got to talk about it 'cause you know, I mean,
- 7:32that's what's happening to baseball.
- 7:33That's what we agreed to talk about, but OK, fine.
- 7:37Do you want to save it for the end?
- 7:38I mean no. No, no, it's, I feel like now
- 7:41it's it can't be that big. Yeah.
- 7:44Until now, yeah. We sort of override joke.
- 7:47It's not that funny. Yeah.
- 7:50Lawrence Butler. Lawrence Butler hit the
- 7:55trombone. Hit the trombone.
- 7:57Where are we at? I mean, I'm trying to stay
- 8:02positive here. Some Lawrence Butler extension
- 8:04news and you're going to. It's like a joke that's really
- 8:06not that funny. So I just wanted to pay my.
- 8:09Respect to Lawrence Butler. I thought you had something
- 8:11else. No side note.
- 8:12That's on me. That's on me.
- 8:13I wanted to pay my respects to Lawrence Butler.
- 8:15I mean, man, just got paid and you're over here just belittling
- 8:20it. I'm belittling it.
- 8:21Yeah, that was it was unintentional.
- 8:23I like this. I like Lawrence Butler.
- 8:25I like the move. I like what the A's are doing.
- 8:27No. No, don't try to go.
- 8:29No, no, no, don't try to get on the A's.
- 8:31Don't try to get on the A's train.
- 8:33Now I've been on this train for the last month or two.
- 8:37Save me the whole I like this move.
- 8:38I like the I like what they're doing finance and I like what
- 8:41they're doing from a personnel student.
- 8:42But I mean, you've been on the train.
- 8:44I haven't what you were talking about.
- 8:46I How long have I been saying I'm a fan of what the A's are
- 8:50doing, Whether it's because they're being forced to or not,
- 8:52whatever. I But at the end of the day I
- 8:54was saying. Both with this I feel like I'm
- 8:56getting called out for no reason.
- 8:57Here I thought we were we agreed on all this.
- 9:02I I agree. I've been on the same train.
- 9:05I guess I'm. Not the conductor, but I'm on
- 9:07that train. I guess all right.
- 9:14Well, then, we might. Have to go back to receipts
- 9:15here. I feel unrightfully attacked.
- 9:19You've been, you've been on board with what the A's have
- 9:22been doing. Yeah, you are misremembering,
- 9:27Sir. Take me back.
- 9:28Take me back to the whatever. Just keep going, man.
- 9:38You can't even think of anything that they've done.
- 9:40Let's go the Brent Brooker. The Brent Brooker.
- 9:43Extension. Yeah, yeah, I bet.
- 9:45I bet it was a Brent. Brooker extension, we want to go
- 9:47back to the episode. I would change my find that
- 9:49quote and I'll look that up. As I was saying, yeah, I bet
- 9:52I'll read the transcripts. As I was saying, Brent Rooker.
- 9:55Yeah. You know, the Brent Rooker
- 9:56extension. Big fan.
- 9:58Yeah, that's. Where it started, guy?
- 9:59Luis Severino, Brent Rooker, now Lawrence Butler and sprinkling
- 10:03some move, some some underrated in there as well.
- 10:06But Lawrence Butler's the the name that's that's been making
- 10:11news recently. seven-year 65 and a half million dollar extension
- 10:15for the Sacramento A's that play with the Las Vegas patch on
- 10:23their shoulder, whatever, whatever that's about.
- 10:28And, and and Lawrence Butler, you like the move.
- 10:32I love the athleticism, I love the length, I love the
- 10:36commitment. I love that they are making him
- 10:38a part of whatever this future is going to be, whatever this
- 10:44future is going to look like. Let's be honest, I don't think
- 10:46any of us really fully can grasp or, or predict accurately at
- 10:52least what this A's future beholds.
- 10:56It's going to be weird. Like I think that's, that's the,
- 10:59that's the ultimate take away here is we just need to come to
- 11:02grips with the fact that this A's chapter and possibly beyond
- 11:05for for at least a few years. It's going to be weird.
- 11:08It's going to be weird. Yeah, it's, I mean, that's fair,
- 11:12but Lawrence. Butler's going to be a part of
- 11:14it, that we know. And I like that.
- 11:16I, I agree. I like the athleticism.
- 11:18I like the way he plays. I was looking through this
- 11:22article that Anthony Franco wrote and after the All Star
- 11:32break last year slashed 300-340-5553.
- 11:39He ranked 10th in WRC plus the other nine names over him, Judge
- 11:45Vladdy, Bobby Witt, Jordan Soto, Shohei Lindor, Jackson Merrill
- 11:53and Brent Rooker. That's it.
- 11:56So outside of that, I mean really good second-half.
- 12:00Arguably the performance that earned him this extension trying
- 12:09to pull the numbers up from last year.
- 12:10Last year looked pretty good. Man told it up to three war, you
- 12:16know, 24 double S22 home runs, which is like I kind of
- 12:20surprising pop based on like just his build and like play
- 12:24style. You know, you feel like he could
- 12:27potentially run into even more changing ballparks, especially
- 12:31playing in Sacramento, which I don't know if we've like
- 12:34officially looked up the distances or anything, but like
- 12:38it. They can't be bigger than the
- 12:41Oakland Coliseum 131 OPS plus last year that 18 swipes so.
- 12:50Pump the brakes. We're talking about his build as
- 12:51if he's some bean pole. He he's sick.
- 12:55He's listed at 62220. No, there's no way really.
- 13:01What he's listed at, and I get it, the whole like listing
- 13:03thing, but like I was thinking, oh, maybe he maybe, maybe he
- 13:07compares like a sedan Rafaela. Sedan Rafaela is listed at
- 13:1058150. Two, I didn't have them that
- 13:13short, but I definitely had them lighter than 220.
- 13:16I don't know what it is, I just. I'm with you because I'm like,
- 13:22I'm like 2, last I checked, I'm like 220.
- 13:26And I think Lawrence Butler, I mean, granny, he's got like
- 13:28packing a lot more muscle. I think he yeah, I think he
- 13:30wears it a little better than us, huh A.
- 13:32Little better than me, I know that much.
- 13:34Yeah, that's fair. I mean, I think, I think that's
- 13:37AI think that that build as representative of of the the pop
- 13:42and and vice versa. That's fair.
- 13:43I mean, you can definitely run into 20 no problem there.
- 13:46But again, like I, I, I do expect that number to kind of
- 13:49tick up changing ballparks this year and and moving forward.
- 13:52But yeah, man, I mean, not this is this is something to wear.
- 13:57Like you can strike gold. We've seen it a few different
- 14:02Times Now. Is Lawrence Butler going to be a
- 14:04Ronald lacuna? Don't know, but either way, if
- 14:10he doesn't, if he if this was the top end of performance
- 14:16you're going to get from him, you know 130 plus OPS plus and
- 14:19then you know, 20 home run 60 to 80 RBIs, 15 to 30 stolen bases a
- 14:27year. Like I'll take that.
- 14:30I'll absolutely take that. This is surprising in a good
- 14:38way. Like I, I don't know what it is
- 14:40like it you, you kind of feel checked out on the A's sometimes
- 14:43obvious for obvious reasons, but like you speak for yourself.
- 14:46You almost see like one of these moves and you don't expect like
- 14:50a snowball of moves to follow it.
- 14:52You know, you don't see that they like not just the A's, but
- 14:56there's plenty of small market teams that they make one move
- 14:59and you're like, awesome, keep going and they don't.
- 15:03So it's nice. It's refreshing to see them just
- 15:06stacking good moves on top of each other.
- 15:10Yeah, but again, it's it's they're being forced to, but I'm
- 15:15not going to, you know, like. No, I disagree.
- 15:18I think this year they're being forced to, but like to commit to
- 15:22something this term. You know what I'm saying?
- 15:24Like it's, it's a longer term commitment that I, I, I think
- 15:28it's a little bit different than just going and like throwing
- 15:31money at a free agent this year, you know, and, and I'm sure yes,
- 15:36it does help their numbers this year because like you're, you're
- 15:39kind of buying out pre ARB. You're buying out, you know,
- 15:42some of those things you're getting him.
- 15:44I think with arbitration years, he get like he just stole two
- 15:49years of his free agency. Was he 24 something like that
- 15:542324. So you had a guy that's, you
- 15:58know, you're, you're probably going to get the best out of
- 16:00him. He was born in 2000.
- 16:03That's insane what is happening. That's insane.
- 16:08But anyway, I thought we were going to try to stay positive
- 16:12today. We can't even say positive on on
- 16:16the. Positive note.
- 16:17Positive note I mean. He's born.
- 16:19He's born in on this side of the turn of the century.
- 16:23I mean, how is that not depressing?
- 16:25Look tough. Look, I saw something the other
- 16:27day where it was like something ridiculous, like it was like
- 16:321980 to now is the same gap between like 1930.
- 16:39No, no, no. Get these get these fake
- 16:43statistics out of my face. Anyway, yeah, good on the A's,
- 16:49good on, good on Lawrence Butler.
- 16:50I, I keep, just keep going, keep going.
- 16:54You have this, you have this core that's being built up.
- 16:57I, I like that there's names and there's going to be recognizable
- 17:00names year after year that if there is a young fan in Vegas
- 17:05that can start watching them now and kind of buy into this team
- 17:08with the expectation of them coming to their city.
- 17:11Like you can start to get a little bit of a fandom going
- 17:14when there's not so much turnover, so.
- 17:17Here's the question that I don't think we're asking yet.
- 17:20What if we've already, we've already addressed the question,
- 17:23what if the A's are like actually not bad this year?
- 17:26Because I could very much I could, I could very easily see
- 17:28that being the case. We've already addressed that.
- 17:30I think that's a very real possibility that they could at
- 17:34the very least very most, depending on which way you look
- 17:37at it, flirt with a wild card spot.
- 17:40I I I believe that. That's super, yeah.
- 17:43I'm just telling you, American League's wide open this year.
- 17:45We know this, especially with what we're about to get into,
- 17:50but the question we're not asking is like, what if this
- 17:53Sacramento slash Vegas future turns out to be like a
- 17:57resounding success? I know.
- 17:59Because I don't think we can just, I, I think we're so down
- 18:04on the A's for the way they handled leaving Oakland, which,
- 18:08and just can't blame us. Yeah, like, right.
- 18:13I I and I understand that and I think other people understand
- 18:16that too. But what I'm saying is we're
- 18:19just assuming that it's going to fall flat, that we're just
- 18:22assuming that they're going to trip over themselves with this
- 18:24move. But like, what if it ends up?
- 18:26Yeah, I get what you're saying. I don't.
- 18:28Know something all? Of these all of these things
- 18:30start to like kind of build up on the fact that like he could
- 18:32sell the team too and like you're you're starting to add
- 18:35value and again, like if you start to build up some of these
- 18:39the roster just getting dubs, you know what I mean?
- 18:43Like bringing back the green Kelly jerseys, like you have
- 18:46small things that are just like you're just doing good stuff
- 18:50after good stuff after good stuff.
- 18:51That makes that franchise more attractive.
- 18:53That was the gold unit, right? Gold Unit.
- 18:55Sorry. Yeah.
- 18:57So like you're just doing all these things, just they're
- 19:00stacking up wins, you know what I mean?
- 19:01Like you're stacking up wins now winning the AL wild card spot
- 19:06is. I'm just saying.
- 19:11I think you look at them like you have to look at them and say
- 19:14can you compete with the Orioles, Blue Jays, Tigers,
- 19:22Royals? Yeah, I'm going to go ahead.
- 19:24And hang around with those maybe?
- 19:28Who's the first team? Who's the first team?
- 19:30You said Orioles. Probably not.
- 19:32Could I see the A's messing around outperforming the Jays?
- 19:37Absolutely. Absolutely.
- 19:38Royals The. Central's going to run it back.
- 19:45In a way, I mean, you're going to need a, you're going to need
- 19:47a, a sort of an encore of what you did last year for the Royals
- 19:51and and continue to prove that the movement there isn't a
- 19:54fluke. And I don't, I have no reason to
- 19:56believe that it is same for the tigers.
- 19:58I I think the tigers are. Are you?
- 20:00Saying you're putting in the same company, though, you can
- 20:02put the A's in that company. I yeah, I said flirt with.
- 20:05I didn't say that they would secure a spot like they would be
- 20:09in the we'll be talking. I I'm not going to guarantee it.
- 20:14All I'm saying is I could see us talking about the A's in
- 20:18September. You got to also keep it in the
- 20:20division too. And you got to you got to talk
- 20:22about whichever however we feel and we're not trying to give up
- 20:27give a hot takes predictions here, But like how you feel
- 20:31about the Astros and the Mariners.
- 20:33Like as as wide open as the AL is, I think there's a lot of
- 20:39it's not as top heavy as the NL. Get out of here.
- 20:44Think about the American League. Think about the American League
- 20:47West. If the Rangers don't don't live
- 20:53up to their expectations, if what we think is true about the
- 20:56Astros ends up being true and their their window has
- 20:59essentially closed. If the Mariners continue to not
- 21:03being able to hit the broadside of a barn, the Angels are the
- 21:06joke of the American League West.
- 21:08Where does that leave the A's? I ask you that, my friend, Where
- 21:12does that leave the A's? I'll take the A's over the
- 21:14Angels. I like, I like what's going on
- 21:19there. But like, let's not pretend that
- 21:21they have the depth to to hang around with those other three
- 21:24teams. I'm just saying it sometimes you
- 21:27don't need depth. Sometimes you just need a little
- 21:29bit of little bit of possess a little bit of excitement, a
- 21:32little bit of excitement. That's all I'm saying I need.
- 21:35A lack of depth. Let's get into all these.
- 21:37Yeah, let's talk some injuries and we'll start with your your
- 21:41beloved Yankees. Garrett Cole, Giancarlo Stanton
- 21:46and Luis Heel to name a few. I think I saw.
- 21:49Was DJ Lemahieu also going to be missing a little bit of time?
- 21:52Who knows? I think he's a bit, probably
- 21:56going to release him soon. Yeah, what a fall off that was.
- 22:00No, those three names, among others set to miss time, slash
- 22:05miss the start of the season. So possibly for Stan, if he ends
- 22:12up getting the surgeries, he's out for the year, what we're
- 22:15talking. So I mean, I've seen quotes
- 22:18flying around Yankees camp saying that they're a better
- 22:21team this year, even without Soto and potentially without
- 22:24Stanton. So I'm not sure where that math
- 22:27is mathing. So I would like you, I would
- 22:29like you to explain what the what the outlook of this team
- 22:32looks like without Cole Stanton and their American League Rookie
- 22:38of the Year winner. I'm going to rank them as far as
- 22:42worry goes. I am least worried about
- 22:47Stanton. Next got me a little worried.
- 22:53More worried would be heal. Then most worried would probably
- 23:02be Garrett Cole. OK.
- 23:07Stan, I, I think this is, I'm not going to say planned because
- 23:15it's probably not the right word for it, but the Yankees just
- 23:19don't put a ton of stock into the beginning of the year and
- 23:22it's a strategy that either really bites them or really kind
- 23:26of pays off sometimes. I they like to be able to have
- 23:31the, the DH flexibility early in the year with cold weather
- 23:35games. They love to be able to rotate,
- 23:37You know, they're big guys into ADH spot and if you can have,
- 23:41you can get Judge or Goldie 1/2 day off every, you know, every
- 23:46other game or twice a week, three times a week.
- 23:49Like you have the ability to do that without a Stanton.
- 23:53We've seen what Stanton has been year after year after year where
- 23:58you get like a, you'll typically get a cold start, you'll get an
- 24:02IL stint, you'll get a 2 or maybe even three more IL stints
- 24:06throughout the year. So it's like, why don't we just
- 24:08front load all of that and let's just say come back in June when
- 24:12the weather's hot, you have plenty of time to make sure your
- 24:14body's in good shape. He's talked about his elbows
- 24:17being an issue in the past. So like, I'm not overly
- 24:19concerned with his health necessarily or I'm not concerned
- 24:24with his ability to play through whatever this elbow thing is,
- 24:28right, moving on the heel. Wait, hold on, hold on.
- 24:33Let's not just move so quickly past the same thing.
- 24:36Tennis elbow. Is that correct?
- 24:37Double tennis elbow? Yeah.
- 24:40I got a little fun fact here for you.
- 24:42Did you know I had tennis elbow in high school?
- 24:44What? Was that like?
- 24:46You know what it was from? You know what my tennis elbow in
- 24:53high school was? From what?
- 24:55Was it from excessive? Wii bowling.
- 25:00Really. Yes, that's a real thing.
- 25:03It's a percent. That's what we have found out,
- 25:05apparently from the from these reports.
- 25:07He's an ambidextrous wee bowler, he said.
- 25:10You know what? I'm out of Commission with my
- 25:13right. I guess I got to go.
- 25:14That's right, that's right. I still.
- 25:16Still couldn't reach that perfect game.
- 25:19Yeah, I wonder. I'd love to see the Wii scores.
- 25:22I, however, have bowled. I've bowled 2 perfect games in
- 25:25Wii, but we're not here to talk about my accomplishments.
- 25:28Without here to pull up the the trophies off the shelf, you
- 25:31know, yeah, man, I mean, I, I think like I said, I it's it's
- 25:37more just managing what he is now.
- 25:39Let's just maximize what he's able to bring and you know this
- 25:45this comment right here brings up a perfect argument is that
- 25:49like I think there's a lot of question marks to to Jason and
- 25:54being isn't left like he hasn't looked good defensively.
- 25:57Doesn't look like he's progressing so much.
- 25:59So like does he start to become more of ADH conversation during
- 26:03this chapter? Like there's there's a lot of
- 26:07question marks. I.
- 26:09We're already talking about moving The Martian to DH.
- 26:14It's it's strange that like center field set really like was
- 26:19seemingly like a no brainer and now seeing him in left, it's
- 26:23like it looks it looks bad. It looks really, really bad.
- 26:26So I don't know, man, like there's there's a lot that I'm
- 26:32excited about with the youth, but man, this this is odd to not
- 26:39have left field figured out that all that he looks lost, but any
- 26:44who's healing. Cole heal and Cole.
- 26:47Heal, heal makes me nervous because like it's very common
- 26:52for guys that have had TJ or shoulder issues to start having
- 26:56lat issues. And we didn't have a lat issue.
- 26:59Like it's, it's like a oblique for a hitter.
- 27:02Like it just seems to last longer and like it's a sneaky
- 27:05thing where you can't really use a necessary part of your body.
- 27:09So that's what has me super nervous about him because that
- 27:13can leak into other injuries and potentially start incorporating
- 27:17the elbow or the shoulder injuries back into the
- 27:20conversation when we thought he was passed it.
- 27:24Not to mention, like if you are using Heal, who had great
- 27:28numbers last year as a three, four guy in your rotation, like
- 27:32that had real depth. Now that depth has been
- 27:34decimated with now getting into the conversation of Garrett
- 27:38Cole. Like that to me makes me super
- 27:42nervous man because we already dealt with this last year.
- 27:45I saw a tweet the other day that said Yankees to Marcus Stroman
- 27:49you might be a reliever for us and then like 2 weeks later you
- 27:54are opening day starter. Yeah, man, it's it's it's a
- 28:01little nervy, but like I said, the Yankees don't seem to put a
- 28:06ton of stock in the beginning of the year.
- 28:09I think they're wanting to kind of see how these young guys
- 28:13play. Think there's a lot of
- 28:14opportunities and, and like there's a lot of names that can
- 28:17kind of just step in and steal a spot.
- 28:21And they're also very notorious for when these rosters start
- 28:25getting trimmed. And when you look around the
- 28:28league, that guys, they got big league invites to places get
- 28:30cut, get released. They are notorious for signing
- 28:35someone on and having them start the year for a month or two to
- 28:39kind of fill in the gap with these inevitable injuries that
- 28:42they face at the beginning of the year every year.
- 28:44So look out for some of these names that are around different
- 28:47leagues or excuse me, around different teams across the
- 28:50league that you're like, you know what?
- 28:51There's probably not an opportunity for them to play.
- 28:54I won't be surprised if they go get it, a third baseman or a
- 28:58left fielder, maybe to even another arm or bullpen arm that
- 29:01like is going to come in and see some serious time.
- 29:05And they'll probably ride them like a mule for April and May
- 29:08and just like wear them out until this roster gets fully
- 29:12healthy. Rinse, repeat every year in a
- 29:15different scenario. But it's tough to see 2 super
- 29:19exciting arms in a rotation go down in this conversation.
- 29:26Somebody that will not be going down, fortunately for his sake
- 29:30and the sake of his team. Jerks and pro far.
- 29:32It's not really an injury up. Well, it is an injury update
- 29:34'cause we saw that play. Brother, I was live and I texted
- 29:37you right away. I was like, that sucked.
- 29:40He might have broken his wrist. Yeah, not a good not a good look
- 29:44for pro far in the Braves. But initial X-rays came back
- 29:47negative. I think he went through some
- 29:50additional testing today. Turns out that it was just a
- 29:53bone bruise. So.
- 29:55Good came up rough, man. He came up not well, like.
- 29:59When the glove comes off, when you're just laying there in a
- 30:03spring training game, it's like, oh boy, how, how many weeks
- 30:07slash months are we going to be missing this guy?
- 30:10Like you just don't. I had one like I there's times
- 30:14where you watch a game and like you sometimes have just like a
- 30:17on time perfect reaction. This second he laid out and dove
- 30:22forward. And if for those unfamiliar and
- 30:24haven't seen it yet, it's like a one of those tweener lining
- 30:27drive line drives going towards the left fielder, left fielders
- 30:31coming in dives. And the second you see the glove
- 30:35fold back and that arm just disappear and go behind, it's
- 30:38immediate. Uh oh.
- 30:40It's immediate like, Oh no. And then he came up and it was
- 30:43like it looked, I thought he broke it like the way he's
- 30:48holding his arm. So it's good to hear that it
- 30:51wasn't awful. It's still something they're
- 30:55probably going to have to kind of ease into over the next few
- 30:58days or weeks, but I'm I'm just excited for him to be there.
- 31:02I'm excited for that line up to be like healthy and get it going
- 31:05again. But they're not going to be
- 31:08fully healthy. Well, wait, did I include in
- 31:12that update that said he the expectation is that he'll be
- 31:15ready for opening day? Yeah, but I was just trying to
- 31:17tee up a transition for you into another name.
- 31:21So it's all you have another name in mind.
- 31:24Sean Murphy, maybe? Oh, true, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 31:27Well, I had him at the end of my list.
- 31:29But, you know, it makes sense to pair them considering they play
- 31:32for the same team. That's an oversight by me.
- 31:34I'm usually on top of that. My apologies.
- 31:36Sean Murphy. Great point.
- 31:38Great point by the kid. Sean Murphy will miss the start
- 31:42of the season. A little bit older news because
- 31:44we missed last last Wednesday slash Thursday recording, but
- 31:48just putting a bow on that news. Is going to miss the start of
- 31:52the season with a rib injury. Expected to miss four to six
- 31:56weeks with a cracked rib. That's tough dude, just get
- 32:00taking a freaking fastball off the ribs.
- 32:05Man, what? Just a literal tough blow.
- 32:11You know, you, you go down, you go, Whether you're in Florida,
- 32:15whether you're in Arizona, you're just trying to soak up
- 32:17some sun. You're trying to get the shake
- 32:19the rust off a little bit, get some swings and get some throws
- 32:22in. Yeah.
- 32:24And you're just get, I mean, not just Sean Murphy, everybody,
- 32:27man, you, you, you're just having to deal with these
- 32:30injuries right off the bat. And it's like that's that cannot
- 32:35be fun. That cannot be.
- 32:37Fun. I'm going to ask a weird
- 32:38question here and ask to like, not to like bring this up in the
- 32:43middle of the injuries, but like.
- 32:47Do you like strawberry ice? Cream, I wasn't going to go that
- 32:50crazy. I was just going to say that
- 32:51like, do you think we play too many spring training games?
- 32:58Is that a weird question? Because like.
- 32:59I'm in no position. I mean, I'm in, no?
- 33:01Training camp for football, yeah.
- 33:04When you look at that, like there's days of guys not even
- 33:09put on pads, just kind of walking through, they're going
- 33:13through. And I know it's like it's a
- 33:14whole different thing because they're going through a playbook
- 33:16and they're learning plays and yeah, players being at it.
- 33:19But like we, I, we see workouts the first like week or two when
- 33:26pitchers and catchers report, even though everyone's there,
- 33:29you see like guys in shorts, they're taking ground balls,
- 33:32they're taking fly balls, they're doing drills.
- 33:34And then all of a sudden you don't see any more of those
- 33:36drills. You just see games and you're
- 33:42like, you wonder if there's like, there's not enough time
- 33:46being like doing that. And I know that it may not
- 33:49always like show up on our feet or like be televised, sure.
- 33:52But it just makes me think that like, you know what, we maybe we
- 33:57just got to relax and like going into playing games every day.
- 34:01Yeah. Yeah, a lot of guys to get
- 34:04through and it's very important for some guys that are trying to
- 34:07make a roster. It's very important for those
- 34:09guys, but not for these names that we're talking about today.
- 34:12Like some of these things are like I get like shaking rust off
- 34:15and I get understanding that like you got to get regular
- 34:19season ready. I I don't know, it's I'm sure
- 34:24it's a tough balance that every manager has to deal with, but
- 34:28it's like, man, these are you said it like odd altering type
- 34:34names going down when you're talking.
- 34:36About. Alternate teams that are like
- 34:38favored in in wanting to do damage this year, losing huge
- 34:44names. And I know it's inevitable.
- 34:46It's sports, it happens. But like, I'm curious if we're
- 34:49going to see like spring training being managed a little
- 34:53bit differently going forward. Yeah, I mean, again, like I said
- 34:58at the top, I'm I'm in no position to answer the question
- 35:00on like do we play too many spring training games?
- 35:02But from my point of view, if if the main focus there beyond, you
- 35:08know, just getting familiar with the guys that are around you
- 35:11like it from a from a personal point of view as a player, I
- 35:15would have to imagine that getting season ready is one of,
- 35:20if not the most, the the highest priority.
- 35:22Sure. You have to think that with.
- 35:27I mean, I just think. Between the money, the
- 35:29technology and the facilities, you can do this in a different
- 35:32way They're. Looking at I.
- 35:34Don't know they're looking at taking an NFL pre season game
- 35:37away. No, I hear, No look, I hear you.
- 35:40But like. I'm going the other direction.
- 35:42It's hard to simulate like even with the technology, even with
- 35:45those screens that you know that it's like the computer screens
- 35:48where or like the pitching machine.
- 35:50You know what I'm talking about where you get in the lane, you
- 35:52got the Nets and and then they simulate a reliever or starter
- 35:57on the screen and it shoots out the whole.
- 36:00It's like that that can only simulate so much.
- 36:03I I at least I believe maybe other people feel differently,
- 36:06but no, I think if the focus is to get game to get season ready,
- 36:12you have to think that like a week or two of games and then
- 36:15utilizing like the just maybe a controversial take, but maybe
- 36:20just utilize continuing to carry that momentum into the first
- 36:24like week or two into the season.
- 36:26Continue to because you're, I don't think you're going to
- 36:28fully get the rust off until you're like well into the
- 36:31season. So it's like.
- 36:32I don't think these guys, yeah, there's guys that don't even
- 36:35lock in until middle end of May. That's what I'm saying.
- 36:38So like, what's what's an added week or two of spring training
- 36:42games going to really do other than run the risk of of silly
- 36:46injuries? Right.
- 36:47Yeah, that's I I just, I don't know.
- 36:49That's just an idea. I don't know, I, I feel like
- 36:53it's, it's hard to get the best of both worlds without this
- 36:56being like, what's the reward versus risk?
- 36:58That's all a lot of risk, but I guess that's the game.
- 37:06That's the game. Them's the rules.
- 37:08George Kirby of the aforementioned Seattle Mariners
- 37:13and their rotation that become so highly touted and for good
- 37:17reason, are losing one of their top names.
- 37:22One of their top arms. George Kirby will be shut down
- 37:26with shoulder inflammation and will likely begin the season on
- 37:29the IL. Yet another name in this
- 37:31conversation that we're talking about who will be missing some
- 37:34time. This one, obviously, you know,
- 37:37tough blow for the Mariners, but doesn't sound like it's going to
- 37:39be. Yeah.
- 37:42A massive blow. Like, I mean, they're going to.
- 37:46The reality is they're still going to need to figure out ways
- 37:48to hit. They're still going to have to
- 37:49figure out ways to score runs. I was going to say.
- 37:52Missing a couple starts from George Kirby, if that's what it
- 37:54ultimately ends up being, that's not going to I mean, that's not
- 37:58going to alter your your season plans that that much.
- 38:03But if it lingers, if this proves to be something that
- 38:06carries on beyond maybe just a couple starts?
- 38:11Could be tough. That's, I mean that that's a
- 38:13tough, that's, that's a tough break for a team that's already
- 38:17fighting for their relevancy lives.
- 38:23If you will could be tough. It's it's like, you know,
- 38:28there's if that if that roster had one place to get hit, you
- 38:33know, like that's somewhere where they're deep and they have
- 38:38the ability to bounce back. I don't know.
- 38:44I again, I don't want to get into prediction or anything.
- 38:47I just I feel like everything has to go perfectly for the
- 38:50Mariners to at this current state, the way there was this
- 38:54roster is construction. I feel like everything has to be
- 38:57going perfectly in order for them to do what they want to do
- 39:00and it's just I can't I'm struggling to get there.
- 39:03So if you take a big name out of the mix like Kirby and and you
- 39:07say you know, you're, you're not getting him at full strength,
- 39:10like that's that's a big deal. You don't even have to hit that
- 39:13great. By the way, you don't even have
- 39:15to be like a top ten team. Like it's just like a league
- 39:17average. Like just don't be 27th or 28th,
- 39:20whatever they are in every category.
- 39:26Next on our list here Grayson Rodriguez set to miss some time.
- 39:30He will start the season on the IL due to some discomfort in his
- 39:33elbow slash triceps. Area I'm I'm out on this bro.
- 39:38I'm like I'm losing. I'm losing interest in the hype.
- 39:43I don't know about you. In Grayson or the.
- 39:47Orias Grayson Like I'm losing interest in in how much hype is
- 39:52around this guy. How many starts did he make last
- 39:55year? If I was to guess.
- 39:59He missed. He missed time.
- 40:00I'm. Going to say he made.
- 40:03I would know. I had him in fantasy.
- 40:05I'm going to say he made nineteen starts.
- 40:10Wow, 20 starts. Well done.
- 40:15Well done. That's like good enough, man.
- 40:16Like, I'm sorry, again, another roster construction that has
- 40:20question marks specifically in this area that they can't afford
- 40:25this to happen. And this guy's supposed to be
- 40:28their freaking ace moving forward.
- 40:29Yeah. But I mean, what we've been told
- 40:31out of Baltimore is like, this is our guy.
- 40:33This, you know, this is our, this is our Stephen Strasburg.
- 40:36And it's just, it's not getting there.
- 40:40I get there. It kind of reminds me of a
- 40:43little bit Where's the socks up and get that same arts arm slot.
- 40:47A lot of people wear socks up. I don't know if that makes them
- 40:49Steven Strasburg have people. Been similar build.
- 40:51People have been saying that. You don't see comps, I see
- 40:54comps. Well, not in terms of the buzz.
- 40:57I don't, I don't no, absolutely not the same buzz, but it's like
- 41:04when are you, what are you going to when are these names going to
- 41:07like start showing up, showing out and.
- 41:10Delivering Friend Friend of the pod Rocco, Part of Ryan Ripken's
- 41:16crew. Another friend of the pod he had
- 41:19a he put out a great tweet the other day.
- 41:20He said Boston traded for Garrett Crochet.
- 41:23The Yankees side Max Freed both getting better from a starting
- 41:26pitching perspective while the O sat back watch Kurt Corbin Burns
- 41:31walk and did nothing to upgrade. If his team is serious about
- 41:34contending, go get a ace yesterday.
- 41:38Where? Who?
- 41:41I mean, it's a good, it's a good point though, and it it speaks
- 41:43to what we've been saying about this team for a some time now.
- 41:46It's like, make make a splash. Not a Tyler O'Neill type, not a
- 41:52a Corbin Burns where you're just going to, you're going to bring
- 41:55him in just to let him walk out the door.
- 41:57Like like I could see Gary Sanchez.
- 41:59Getting 300 ABS with his team this year and that's not OK.
- 42:05Like do something it's it's it's too late now, unless you for
- 42:11some reason were crazy enough to pull.
- 42:15Well, not it wouldn't be crazy because you have the depth you
- 42:18like you have to pull to pull from.
- 42:20But if you went out and got a Dylan sees, then go for it.
- 42:23But if you don't do that, then otherwise it's too late.
- 42:26So we'll have to we'll have to punt till next year if nothing
- 42:29pans out for this team the way it did last year.
- 42:32But like you, you had to think that this was a possibility.
- 42:38You you could not put all your eggs your your overpriced eggs
- 42:42in the Grayson Rodriguez basket. Not a big egg guy, by the way.
- 42:48I mean, I love. Eggs.
- 42:49I'm not really like feeling you're.
- 42:51Not feeling the effects of it. No, not too much.
- 42:54I'm a big egg guy like I'll have.
- 42:56I don't know if this is crazy. There's a little side note here.
- 42:58I is this crazy? Stink.
- 43:01I. Just smelly food.
- 43:03No, if you just have scrambled eggs, they're fine.
- 43:06They they taste and smell fine. It's when you get into like I
- 43:12think they deviled eggs. It's when you get.
- 43:16Oddly enough, that's when I'm in deviled eggs.
- 43:18That's where I'm out. That's where you lost me because
- 43:20I'm I'm out on deviled eggs. Chop up some jalapenos, put that
- 43:23in there. No, I don't want what is it?
- 43:25Mayonnaise on a deviled egg? Is that what's on there?
- 43:28What's the? What's I mean it's it's Mayo and
- 43:30mustard are like in the mix I think and then you add it.
- 43:33Back to that, I'm out. No, but my point.
- 43:36Like an egg salad sandwich? No.
- 43:38No, when I make scrambled eggs, when I make scrambled eggs, is
- 43:45it crazy that I have like I could I could have 4 like is
- 43:48that is that an appropriate amount to have in a sitting
- 43:51single sitting? OK, just want to make sure
- 43:53because I've never. Asked anybody.
- 43:54A little aggressive, but it's a little strong.
- 43:59There's worse things to be aggressive in, you know what I
- 44:02mean? Yeah, no, I'm with you.
- 44:04It is a little strong, especially in this economy.
- 44:06But you know, as as they say, it's like. $20 worth of eggs.
- 44:09You're just hope it was good. Hope it was good, Kyle, But
- 44:15yeah, you can't put all your eggs in in the basket of Grace
- 44:18Rodriguez because he hasn't shown you that he can.
- 44:22Who is the name? I was literally just thinking of
- 44:27who was a pitcher. We were just talking about who
- 44:30is sort of a horse that can. Oh, I was thinking.
- 44:32I was thinking of Garrett Cole. He had.
- 44:34And I'm not saying Grayson Rodriguez has to be Garrett Cole
- 44:36just yet, but like Garrett Cole's a guy that you could go
- 44:40into a season thinking like, OK, he's going to post.
- 44:43He's going to make however many stars.
- 44:45If he's healthy, If. He's healthy and he's going to,
- 44:47yeah, he's going to give you the numbers.
- 44:48He's going to give you that sort of output.
- 44:50But with Grace Rodriguez, you can't do that.
- 44:51You can't be like, Oh, well, he's going to post for us
- 44:53because you don't know that he can.
- 44:55So here they same on that man. Here they sit with and again,
- 44:59this. This may not amount to a whole
- 45:01lot in the grand scheme of things, but to have this come
- 45:04out, have this news come out at the start of the season, he's
- 45:08going to miss time. That's just, it's just a not a
- 45:10good look. It's not a good.
- 45:11Look, shame on that front office.
- 45:14Not a good look. Last guy we got here, Francisco
- 45:18Alvarez, I think this news dropped.
- 45:20What today today broken left handmate bone is.
- 45:27That this guy. Is that the bottom?
- 45:33I think you're right. Must confirm hamate bone.
- 45:39Is it the bottom or? Is it?
- 45:40I didn't see how or why. Hamate bone is this is this guy.
- 45:45Oh no. It's this guy down?
- 45:48Sneaking into the wrist range, huh?
- 45:49No, no, no, no, no, no. Wait, wait, wait.
- 45:51I'm looking at the top of the hand.
- 45:54Is this the top of the hand back here?
- 45:58Yeah, it would have to be. Hold on, it's in the wrist area.
- 46:01Dude, that's not good. Well, not entirely.
- 46:04But it's it's close. I mean the hand by the right
- 46:07hand. Let's see here.
- 46:11Glove throwing hand, Do we know? Do you have a pitch?
- 46:18I'm looking for. It give me details.
- 46:21I mean, this just happened today, didn't it?
- 46:23Yeah, but I'd like for you to know how did the.
- 46:32How did Francisco Alvarez do this?
- 46:36It's a race, Francisco. How did Francisco Alvarez
- 46:43shatter his hamate bone in the chat?
- 46:51Did we already mentioned Francisco Alvarez?
- 46:56You're in luck. Not important.
- 47:00Not important how it happened. He's going to miss 6 to 8 weeks.
- 47:09What did we say? What did we say?
- 47:11Left. Hand.
- 47:12That's glove. Hand.
- 47:13That's bottom hand. Oh, I didn't hear you ask me
- 47:15about Glove Hand. I could have told you that.
- 47:17I just thought you said how it happened.
- 47:21What did we say? What was it?
- 47:23The Manaya news that Manaya's missing time?
- 47:28Wasn't there somebody else? Frankie Montas.
- 47:33Frankie Montos. Yes, like I have.
- 47:36I have to say it. So don't pigeonholed them.
- 47:45And now I'm not going to go that far.
- 47:47I will, I don't care. Now it's the Mets.
- 47:49They're not pigeon. They they can't be pigeonholed.
- 47:55Or can they I? Just don't think they wanted
- 47:57Pete Alonso around when he was like, you know, this, this.
- 48:00That's a whole different conversation.
- 48:02Tough man. When, when Steve Cohen was like,
- 48:04you know, like this is this is hard.
- 48:08Negotiating is hard stuff. I just don't think they want him
- 48:10around. I don't have that.
- 48:11Don't think it had anything to do with money, but.
- 48:16Let us weenie out of here. The Mets, I mean, we're already
- 48:19talking about a Mets team that has been, I won't say decimated
- 48:22by injuries, but a team that's not going to be healthy.
- 48:26Not the only one, of course, but one of the team, one of the
- 48:28teams out there that's going to be also like looking a little,
- 48:34little sloppy in terms of a starting.
- 48:36Lineup Kodi Singer to just come back and be the dude who's a
- 48:40little older who we sometimes forget had like a almost like a
- 48:45full career. How old is?
- 48:48That's 32. We're talking about how time is
- 48:50just flying by. Like what is where are we at
- 48:53with Kodi? Saying which I think he like, I
- 48:55think. He's 32.
- 48:57Sure is. I think the whole conversation
- 49:00of like, teams being where he was, injury concerns from his
- 49:03past. So like you're expecting two
- 49:06guys down now and your ace you brought in a few years ago to
- 49:10come back and be an ace and to throw, you know, 28 to 30
- 49:15starts. Oh no, bro, this is looking
- 49:19thin. This is starting to look real
- 49:21thin. Luis Torin set to be the Opening
- 49:24Day catcher for the Mets. So do that information what you
- 49:28will. That's tough.
- 49:54Get that quote? Whose quote was this?
- 50:05Whose quote was this? Nate, give me give me the
- 50:13episode information please. Episode 265 March 15th, 2022
- 50:26With that sink in a little bit. March of 2022 so this would have
- 50:30been the Astros World Series run or ultimately winning the World
- 50:37Series. This would have oh what What was
- 50:42the episode title? End of an era teams ready to
- 50:47compete in other deals to make sense of.
- 50:53OK. So this would have been close to
- 50:54opening day, so OK. Ready.
- 50:58Good to know, what do you got? It's not like David Ortiz, where
- 51:03it's like, well, he was with the Twins, but nobody cares about
- 51:06that. Freddie Freeman has been with
- 51:08the Braves and this. Is a Nate quote.
- 51:10For an extended. This is a Nate.
- 51:11Of time now you kind of transition to maybe say in LA or
- 51:16wherever he ends up and you just, you don't have that.
- 51:20I mean, you always be loved in Atlanta.
- 51:22This is innate. See, you can't even play the
- 51:25can't even play the clip. I'm hitting it so fast.
- 51:27It's innate. Quote wrong.
- 51:30That's not true, dude. It's wrong.
- 51:34It's yours. I have never well, I won't say
- 51:37never. Well, when when David Ortiz's
- 51:39name comes up, I I rarely have ever think twins.
- 51:44So why why period of time now you kind of transition to maybe
- 51:50say in LA or wherever he ends up and you just you don't have that
- 51:54sound like a child always be loved in in Elena.
- 51:57You'll have that forever. Nobody will take that away from
- 51:59him, but you just don't have that same effect.
- 52:01And so I'm just wondering what the difference in payout?
- 52:05All you dog. No, that's Nate.
- 52:09Stuff. Nope.
- 52:10That was Nate Chico. Literally was a man.
- 52:13No, I was trying to give you kudos because it was like a
- 52:16weird this is obviously not like super relevant to anything we're
- 52:18talking about today, but but the part where it says now you kind
- 52:24of transition to maybe say in LA or wherever he ends up, that's a
- 52:30little receipt there, you know, just a little semi age like
- 52:36wine. Well, we were talking about like
- 52:37the end of an era because the Braves brought in, Oh, this was
- 52:40age and. Saga.
- 52:41That's right, It was that whole. Period where like Matt Olson
- 52:44signed and then it was like obvious that the Braves were
- 52:47going in a different direction. And that's where you I let's try
- 52:51to give you a little credit here for saying that hold on could
- 52:54end up in LA. No, but what'd you say the date
- 52:56was? March 15th.
- 52:59Wow. Three days later, signed a six
- 53:01year, $160 million contract with the Dodgers.
- 53:03Didn't realize it was that close.
- 53:05Good to know, good to know. Not that like I, I don't think
- 53:08that was, you know. Wasn't far fetched at the time.
- 53:11Yeah, it wasn't a crazy idea, but still, it was just nice
- 53:14little nice little nugget for you to throw, but you got it
- 53:16wrong and you had to shove it in my face that you got it wrong
- 53:20over and over again. That wasn't that.
- 53:24Was not a good. Look, I mean, that wasn't, that
- 53:26wasn't like the hottest of takes pulled out from the the fryer.
- 53:30No, no to say that the Dodgers might sign Freddie.
- 53:34But. But it was just a thing.
- 53:35It was like, you know, I could. Have said any other team for?
- 53:38Always be loved in Atlanta. And it's like, I don't know.
- 53:41I did read another quote from that episode that I think we
- 53:43read a comment from somewhere is that Freddie Freeman ward #5
- 53:47because he was half the man that Chipper Jones is, is Chipper
- 53:52Ward 10. And it was like, you were like,
- 53:54we need to stop this slander of Freddie Freeman.
- 53:57But anyway. It was so stupid, man, like.
- 54:00Yeah, that was a weird thought. A Braves.
- 54:02Fan exposed themselves drastically at that time, yeah.
- 54:07Still got to be some love for Freddie.
- 54:10I don't know though, but like. How do you not love Freddie?
- 54:13We Fast forward and Freddie Freeman wins, say, one or maybe
- 54:16two more rings in LA. Wonder what hat he's going to be
- 54:19wearing in the Hall of Fame. You think it would be a brave?
- 54:23I don't know. Oh, I don't if if that happens,
- 54:27if he wins. It's in LA.
- 54:28It's in LA hat. Who wins?
- 54:29Another one or two rings, I mean.
- 54:32It's a Dodger hat, I think, so maybe Braves fans weren't crazy
- 54:36to think that way. All of that, it doesn't David.
- 54:39David Ortiz tying to the Twins. You just automatically threw it
- 54:44to me. It doesn't, and him going in as
- 54:49a Dodger would not or should not justify hating Freddie Freeman.
- 54:54Like it doesn't take away what he helped you do in 2021.
- 54:57It's just tough because like when you look at like the age of
- 55:00of Braves fans who like, you can argue where Braves fandom came
- 55:05from. You have Smoltz, you have
- 55:08Glavin, you have Maddox, you have Chipper Jones, you have
- 55:10Andrew Jones. Yeah, sure, some of those guys
- 55:12didn't stay Brave the whole time, but like, you have these
- 55:15names that are just like they became who they are because of
- 55:20the Braves. And Chipper was there forever.
- 55:22And it's like I, I kind of, I kind of understand where they
- 55:28feel slighted, especially for him to go to in LA and
- 55:31especially now that he has a ring.
- 55:33There might be some bitter people out there.
- 55:35There's definitely bitter people out there.
- 55:37There's always bitter people out there.
- 55:40Closing the book here. Two more things because I got a
- 55:44just a little question for you to close things out.
- 55:48Closing the book, Vladdy junior spoke about the negotiation
- 55:51process with the Blue Jays. He said that quoted as saying
- 55:56the OR I'm sorry. They asked him about the offer
- 56:00that I think he presented and he was quoted as saying it's much
- 56:04less than Soto. We're talking about many fewer
- 56:06millions than Soto, more than 100 million less.
- 56:10It was the same number of years, but it didn't reach 600.
- 56:14The last number we gave them as a counter offer didn't reach
- 56:17600. I don't.
- 56:22This is dumb. What are you doing?
- 56:25We did. We did say this.
- 56:27We rewind a couple episodes ago. We looked through the
- 56:30transcripts and receipts again. We did say that.
- 56:32This is very normal, very normal for one of the sides to release
- 56:38the number after the trade or the extension talks die off
- 56:44after the deadline passes. One of these sides, I can
- 56:47guarantee you the Toronto's going to chirp back, someone in
- 56:50the organization's going to come out and within the next days or
- 56:53weeks going to say something of like, yeah, we offered him this.
- 56:56We felt like it was a great offer.
- 56:59So it's I think it's weird for the player slash camp to come
- 57:02out with that number. Yeah.
- 57:05When? Also, like if if you are seeking
- 57:09600 million, that that's a weird way to put your foot in your
- 57:12mouth by saying, yeah, like we're we're cool like under 600,
- 57:15but they didn't even reach that. So it's like, OK, any other
- 57:17team. Why would you put a cap on it
- 57:19before they the discussions have even started with other
- 57:22organizations? Doesn't make any sense.
- 57:25I stand by what I said didn't he does not want to stay in Toronto
- 57:28and frankly, N he needs to go somewhere else and do what he
- 57:34does. Question for you to wrap things
- 57:37up here because I put this post out on Facebook and I was like,
- 57:39yeah, you know what? This might be a fun, fun little
- 57:41way to close out next episode. What's sort of majorly shifting
- 57:48gears here. What is a baseball player, team,
- 57:54or moment that they haven't made a movie about yet but should?
- 58:02What is a player, team or moments in baseball that they
- 58:06haven't made a movie about yet but should?
- 58:10It's really good and I. Understand that I'm putting you
- 58:17on the spot here, so if people in the chat want to help, help
- 58:20our our dear friend Nate out. With some thoughts, give me a
- 58:26Nolan Ryan movie. I think for the length of his
- 58:31career and and like the the legendary status that he had,
- 58:39the number of teams that he played for, the number of cities
- 58:41he was in, like the big moments that he had in his career, the
- 58:46accolades that he had. Like, I feel like that'd be a
- 58:49pretty cool, a pretty cool movie to tell you through like a lot
- 58:55of different phases of the game as well.
- 58:58Like you can see how much the game had changed from when he
- 59:01started his career to where he ended it.
- 59:03And you can see just I think there's something about 70s and
- 59:1080s baseball that is is not exactly in theaters.
- 59:17It's not exactly sure. Super widely known.
- 59:22Like we've seen movies about Jackie Robinson.
- 59:23We can go back to like, you know, 61 for like, you know,
- 59:27Mickey Mantle and Rodger Maris. Like we have the 40s, fifties,
- 59:3160s, We've had Babe Ruth, Like we've had a lot of those eras,
- 59:34the 70s and 80s. I feel like it's like super
- 59:37untapped. And to have a Nolan Ryan who
- 59:40spanned across and you'd be able to see like what baseball looked
- 59:44like across those decades. I think it'd be kind of cool.
- 59:47I think it'd be a good movie. I don't know who would play him.
- 59:52Are you thinking in the style of like The Rookie and like Dennis
- 59:55Quaid where it's like it's like more of a light hearted, but it
- 59:58sort of follows? It's like a home life.
- 1:00:01It's like a it's like a home life.
- 1:00:02The the man of Nolan Ryan, not necessarily like so much about
- 1:00:06performance on the field, but just who he was.
- 1:00:09And it's funny because like when you say the rookie, like Dennis
- 1:00:13Quaid, I think could pull it off.
- 1:00:14But he's a lefty and you know. Whoever plays that role would
- 1:00:18have to absolutely either have played baseball or take some
- 1:00:25serious lessons to be able to. That's the hardest part of of
- 1:00:30this game, man. Is that like actors just don't
- 1:00:32know how to make the moves? In the chat.
- 1:00:35I love this answer. He's a great one.
- 1:00:38Is Yogi heck any World War Two player in the middle of the
- 1:00:41prime player? I would love a movie on the
- 1:00:43state of baseball during World War 2.
- 1:00:46And I like, I understand there's like documentaries and, and
- 1:00:48things like that. I, I, I know that I can get my
- 1:00:50fix that way. But like, take me into baseball
- 1:00:56during World War 2, where you have guys like Ted Williams,
- 1:01:04DiMaggio, DiMaggio. Bob Gibson was served too,
- 1:01:07didn't he? Didn't we just talk about this
- 1:01:08recently? Yeah, Just you see these guys, I
- 1:01:11mean, not World War 2, obviously, but you you see guys
- 1:01:14leave during wartime at like peaks of their careers, primes
- 1:01:18of their careers, and then some of them come back and pick right
- 1:01:23back up where they left off. Like, give me, give me a movie
- 1:01:26about that. Give me a story about the the
- 1:01:32You got to think the uncertainty of baseball when you have some
- 1:01:35of the best names you have in the sport to offer.
- 1:01:38Leaving to go fight in wartime. You don't know if they're coming
- 1:01:43back like that's. Man, that'd make a heck of a
- 1:01:45movie. Yeah, I agree.
- 1:01:48It'd be cool. I like that.
- 1:01:50I love it. We can't just steal his.
- 1:01:52You got, you got 1. Nolan Right?
- 1:01:55You said Nolan Ryan. That's a good one.
- 1:02:01I'm trying to think of moments but.
- 1:02:03Yeah, moment moments is tough because I mean it would have to
- 1:02:06be like a very far reaching type moment.
- 1:02:10I'm trying to think of like a team.
- 1:02:12What are some recent teams? The 2013 stocks doesn't really
- 1:02:20count because they've sort of dabbled in that a little bit.
- 1:02:30I don't know, man. You, you probably have to go
- 1:02:32player. You'd probably have to go
- 1:02:34player. Dang, Nolan Ryan was a good one.
- 1:02:42I just, I, I like that. I, I would like to have me
- 1:02:46personally have more knowledge about that era of baseball and I
- 1:02:53think what a, what a perfect name to be able to just kind of
- 1:02:56carry over that length of time. Dang, Pete, they've got they've
- 1:03:00got one on Pete Rose, but that would make a heck of a they like
- 1:03:03did something a little more modern with it.
- 1:03:05Yeah. I don't know, I'll have to think
- 1:03:09on that. I might might bring something
- 1:03:11to. Your own question.
- 1:03:12Yeah, that I asked you. I'm not going to sit here and
- 1:03:15ask myself a question. I'm going to talk to myself.
- 1:03:18I like it. I like that question.
- 1:03:19Where'd that come from? No, no, just thought of it one
- 1:03:23day. I was like, let me let me get
- 1:03:24some put some viewers out, see what people are thinking.
- 1:03:26Actually, you know, before we go, let me let me go through a
- 1:03:30couple because you know, I always, I always rag on the
- 1:03:32people on Facebook sometimes from like, yeah, they're just
- 1:03:35too, too vicious in the comments.
- 1:03:37But I heard some, I heard some 01 of the more obvious ones, the
- 1:03:42whole the the 2017 Astros. I mean that.
- 1:03:45Would make. I was thinking that way but I
- 1:03:47was like. It's kind of lazy but it's
- 1:03:50regardless it would make a a good movie for sure, one that I
- 1:03:54saw. Oh, I just had another name.
- 1:03:57Roy Holiday. I think that'd be a really.
- 1:04:00Didn't they come out? Don't they have?
- 1:04:02Well, maybe it was like a lower budget thing, but I swear they
- 1:04:04came out with something. You know what it is?
- 1:04:06I think I'm blurring the lines between like movies and like.
- 1:04:1030. For 30, yeah, like 30 for 30s
- 1:04:12and stuff like that. Dude.
- 1:04:15Josh Hamilton. Great, great movie.
- 1:04:20That'd be. That would be.
- 1:04:22I don't know if you read his book crazy story, dude crazy.
- 1:04:27One of the craziest baseball stories I've ever just like
- 1:04:31personal stories I've ever read beyond belief.
- 1:04:34And admittedly I I think since that because that book's been
- 1:04:38out for like probably close to a decade now, but maybe even
- 1:04:43longer. But he I think since that book
- 1:04:48has happened, like he's just gotten caught up in like some
- 1:04:51again, just some more pretty terrible things.
- 1:04:54So I I don't know if the because I'm pretty sure I had like a
- 1:04:57pretty decent ending, like sort of left it on a high note, if I
- 1:05:01recall. But you know, he's gotten
- 1:05:02twisted up in some bad things. But still I.
- 1:05:04Haven't heard too much about him.
- 1:05:06Dude you need to gone downhill. You need to read that book like
- 1:05:10yesterday. That is an incredible book.
- 1:05:14But yeah, that would that it's sort of stealing an answer, but
- 1:05:17I think that would be my answer because that meant it would be
- 1:05:20tough to find one. I think the anything around and
- 1:05:23even if you start changing names or like start doing like if you
- 1:05:28want to fill in different names, but like, I think maybe just
- 1:05:31have like a behind the scenes look of steroids and just during
- 1:05:38the steroid era, like what the clubhouse was like, like how
- 1:05:41many, you know, if guys are just openly having like a needle
- 1:05:44shoved in their butt, you know, in, in the in the locker room,
- 1:05:48right? Like that'd be kind of
- 1:05:50interesting to see if you did change names and you didn't
- 1:05:53necessarily like, but you got stories from players without
- 1:05:58names being used. Like I I think there's a way to
- 1:06:00do something there. Another name I saw Mike Piazza
- 1:06:04getting drafted as late as he did, going on to have the career
- 1:06:08he did. And then you, you know, you tie
- 1:06:09into like the 9/11 stuff. Like there, there's some
- 1:06:11potential there. But yeah, interesting question
- 1:06:14to think on some somebody, said Wander Franco.
- 1:06:21Too soon. Too soon, but anyway, that's all
- 1:06:25I got. You got anything else?
- 1:06:27That's it for me, dog, That's it.
- 1:06:28Let's let's just have a good week, you know what I mean?
- 1:06:30Let's everyone stay healthy, keep their head up, head on a
- 1:06:34swivel, and let's get through this week unscathed.
- 1:06:38Hopefully better than that, Jason Curveballs.
- 1:06:44Levion is always looking forward to talking more baseball with
- 1:06:47you guys soon. Until next time, say filthy.
