Luna: Yeah, I still dream about that ዶሮ. But today, let's learn something new. Lucas: Today we're talking about furniture. Specifically, two very common pieces: chair and table. Luna: Oh, useful! I spend a lot of time at my desk. Lucas: So the word for chair is ወንበር. Listen: ወንበር. Luna: ወንበር. Sounds like 'won-ber'. Lucas: Exactly. Let's try it again: ወንበር. Luna: ወንበር. Lucas: Perfect. Now, table in Amharic is ጠረጴዛ. Repeat after me: ጠረጴዛ. Luna: ጠረጴዛ. That's a bit longer. ጠረጴዛ. Lucas: You've got it. ጠረጴዛ. Luna: ጠረጴዛ. Okay, I think I can remember that. Lucas: Now let's put them in simple questions. How about 'Where is the chair?' In Amharic: ወንበሩ የት ነው? Luna: ወንበሩ የት ነው? That means 'the chair where is'. Lucas: Right. The word ወንበር becomes ወንበሩ with the definite article 'the'. So ወንበሩ የት ነው? Luna: ወንበሩ የት ነው? So if I'm looking for my chair, I can say that. Lucas: Exactly. Now let's answer: 'It's on the table.' That's ጠረጴዛው ላይ ነው. Luna: ጠረጴዛው ላይ ነው. So ጠረጴዛ becomes ጠረጴዛው for 'the table'. Lucas: Yes, and ላይ means 'on'. So it's 'on the table'. Luna: Okay, what about 'It's on the chair'? Luna: What's on the chair? That's ወንበሩ ላይ ምን አለ? Lucas: And you answer: መጽሐፍ አለ. There is a book. Luna: So መጽሐፍ is book. But today we're focusing on furniture. Lucas: Right. So let's stick with our phrases. Now you try a question. Ask me: Where is the table? Luna: Umm... ጠረጴዛው የት ነው? Lucas: Perfect! And I'll say: ወንበሩ ላይ ነው. It's on the chair. Luna: Oh, that's funny.
