- 0:02SPEAKER_00: Kate Dreston here.
- 0:03SPEAKER_00: Ever wonder what God has for you in serving Him?
- 0:06SPEAKER_00: Are you searching for that open door?
- 0:08SPEAKER_00: Or maybe you felt like some doors have just shut and you're not sure
- 0:11SPEAKER_00: which direction you need to go?
- 0:13SPEAKER_00: In this five-minute episode,
- 0:15SPEAKER_00: we're going to look at how God works even when we change directions in our service
- 0:19SPEAKER_00: for Him.
- 0:21SPEAKER_00: Hi, guys.
- 0:22SPEAKER_00: Every Christian shares the same purpose in life.
- 0:25SPEAKER_00: We are to bring glory to God.
- 0:27SPEAKER_00: Matthew 5:16 says,
- 0:29SPEAKER_00: and I'll read out of the New King James Version,
- 0:32SPEAKER_00: "Let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works
- 0:35SPEAKER_00: and glorify your Father in heaven."
- 0:38SPEAKER_00: How each one of us does that looks a little different.
- 0:41SPEAKER_00: And after all, we all have different talents and skills, right?
- 0:46SPEAKER_00: 1 Corinthians 12 :12-27 explains how the body of Christ is supposed to work.
- 0:53SPEAKER_00: God created us with different talents and skills so that we all fit together.
- 0:59SPEAKER_00: This passage talks about how we can't all be the hands or we can't all be the ears or the legs.
- 1:06SPEAKER_00: We need many parts to make one complete body.
- 1:10SPEAKER_00: Every part is important.
- 1:13SPEAKER_00: So what if we don't know what God wants us to be doing?
- 1:16SPEAKER_00: What if we're looking for how we're supposed to be fulfilling that purpose?
- 1:20SPEAKER_00: Well, I think we've all been there.
- 1:22SPEAKER_00: God doesn't lead us on just one path our whole lives.
- 1:26SPEAKER_00: He often has us changing directions, switching roads, winding our way through many experiences.
- 1:34SPEAKER_00: For me, I worked with a youth group in my church while I was going to college,
- 1:38SPEAKER_00: and then after college for many years,
- 1:42SPEAKER_00: I taught children's Sunday school classes,
- 1:45SPEAKER_00: and then I experimented with serving in women's ministry.
- 1:48SPEAKER_00: But I tried a lot of different things,
- 1:50SPEAKER_00: and in different seasons of my life,
- 1:53SPEAKER_00: different parts of service fit better than others.
- 1:58SPEAKER_00: But it's not just about serving in a church.
- 2:00SPEAKER_00: There are hundreds of ways to bring glory to God in our lives.
- 2:05SPEAKER_00: Things like being a prayer warrior.
- 2:07SPEAKER_00: Or how about serving others through a non-profit organization
- 2:11SPEAKER_00: that helps people meet their needs?
- 2:15SPEAKER_00: Don't think that since you've been serving the Lord in just one area,
- 2:18SPEAKER_00: He can't give you new opportunities or new options.
- 2:21SPEAKER_00: And don't be discouraged if God changes your direction and asks you
- 2:25SPEAKER_00: to leave what feels familiar and comfortable.
- 2:29SPEAKER_00: I know when my health got to a point where it was too much to teach classes
- 2:33SPEAKER_00: with little children,
- 2:35SPEAKER_00: I changed course and I did things that fit better with my health situation.
- 2:41SPEAKER_00: So if a new door opens, be willing to walk through it.
- 2:44SPEAKER_00: Trust that He can use you in ways you might not have even considered.
- 2:48SPEAKER_00: And maybe that's exciting.
- 2:50SPEAKER_00: But maybe it's scary, too.
- 2:52SPEAKER_00: God gives us whatever we need to be able to serve Him.
- 2:55SPEAKER_00: And remember, if He closes a door, He's got a plan for the job that you're leaving.
- 3:01SPEAKER_00: When an opportunity ends, we need to be willing to search for what God has for us next.
- 3:07SPEAKER_00: And don't think of it as an ending, but a new beginning.
- 3:11SPEAKER_00: If you don't know what your next step should be, keep praying.
- 3:14SPEAKER_00: He doesn't want to hide it from us.
- 3:16SPEAKER_00: He'll help us know what to do.
- 3:18SPEAKER_00: You know,
- 3:18SPEAKER_00: Psalms 32:8 tells us that He will instruct us and teach us in the way
- 3:23SPEAKER_00: that we should go.
- 3:23SPEAKER_00: There's a lot of work to do in this world.
- 3:26SPEAKER_00: And there are many people who need to hear about Jesus.
- 3:30SPEAKER_00: Luke 10:2 reminds us, it's that famous verse, The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few.
- 3:38SPEAKER_00: Time is ticking away, and the Lord's return is coming soon.
- 3:41SPEAKER_00: So we ought to be about our Father's business.
- 3:45SPEAKER_00: Don't forget, it's a privilege to serve Him.
- 3:48SPEAKER_00: And 1 Corinthians 10:31 tells us that in whatever we do, we do it all for the glory of God.
- 3:56SPEAKER_00: So let's do our best today to make the effort to serve Him any way we can,
- 4:01SPEAKER_00: because I'm going to be doing the same.
- 4:04SPEAKER_00: Now go make it a great day.
- 4:06SPEAKER_00: And thanks for listening.
