- 0:10Speaker 1: Hey, what's up everybody? Welcome into another edition of the
- 0:13Speaker 1: Checko Daily. It's Andrew Decheco here, Eagles beat reporter for
- 0:17Speaker 1: insidethebirds dot Com, and the Eagles were not able to
- 0:21Speaker 1: pull it off. They lose in the wildcard round twenty
- 0:24Speaker 1: three to nineteen to the forty nine Ers. The season
- 0:27Speaker 1: is over, a season that's had a lot of peaks
- 0:29Speaker 1: and valleys, and it just didn't work out for him today.
- 0:33Speaker 2: The offense was not able to meet the moment.
- 0:35Speaker 1: The defense, which has carried the team most of the season,
- 0:40Speaker 1: was not able to stave off the forty nine Ers offense.
- 0:44Speaker 1: Wide receiver DeMarcus Robinson a journeyman if you will, He's
- 0:48Speaker 1: been on four teams. I believe had one hundred and
- 0:51Speaker 1: eleven yards second play of the game. He has a
- 0:53Speaker 1: sixty one yarder and he scores a touchdown in the game.
- 0:58Speaker 2: And so it just didn't go right for the Eagles.
- 1:00Speaker 1: I thought the forty nine Ers clearly outplayed them, They
- 1:04Speaker 1: out coached them on both sides of the ball, and look,
- 1:08Speaker 1: it came.
- 1:08Speaker 2: Down to the final drive.
- 1:11Speaker 1: What more can you ask for for an offense that
- 1:14Speaker 1: hasn't had a lot going for them to have the
- 1:16Speaker 1: ball in your hands with a chance to go down
- 1:18Speaker 1: the field and win the game. You saw Matthew Stafford
- 1:21Speaker 1: be able to do it and his group. You saw
- 1:23Speaker 1: Josh Allen and his group be able to do that.
- 1:26Speaker 1: The Eagles were not able to do it. They looked
- 1:28Speaker 1: for a moment like they were generating some momentum on
- 1:31Speaker 1: the field, but for the sixth time this season, they
- 1:34Speaker 1: were scoreless in the second half.
- 1:36Speaker 2: They weren't able to get it done.
- 1:37Speaker 1: On that fourth down heave to Dallas Goddard, Jalen Hurts
- 1:41Speaker 1: had to throw it somewhere and he threw it over
- 1:43Speaker 1: the middle in a double coverage and it was just
- 1:45Speaker 1: a low percentage throw that fell in complete. And the
- 1:49Speaker 1: season has to be looked at as a disappointment given
- 1:52Speaker 1: all of the plethora of playmakers on the offensive side
- 1:55Speaker 1: that didn't reach expectations. That group and defensively, that contingent
- 2:03Speaker 1: of players. It just worked and I feel like they
- 2:07Speaker 1: were really taking shape and could have been a force
- 2:11Speaker 1: in the postseason, but a lot was asked of them
- 2:13Speaker 1: throughout the season and it just wasn't realistic and it
- 2:17Speaker 1: wasn't fair to expect them to carry the Eagles through
- 2:20Speaker 1: the postseason.
- 2:21Speaker 2: We've seen different teams that have been able to do that.
- 2:23Speaker 1: You look at the two thousand Baltimore Ravens and I'm
- 2:27Speaker 1: sure there's others, the Legion of Boom, but their offense
- 2:29Speaker 1: was able to move the football. But the point is
- 2:33Speaker 1: that it's feeling far between and the Eagles needed their
- 2:35Speaker 1: offense to be a little bit better than it's been,
- 2:38Speaker 1: maybe more akin to what you saw against the Minnesota
- 2:41Speaker 1: Vikings and against the Raiders, and they just weren't good enough.
- 2:46Speaker 1: A lot of the same issues that we've seen all
- 2:48Speaker 1: season long. That the Eagles looked at it and said, well, we.
- 2:52Speaker 2: Won the game. We won the game. We won the game, and.
- 2:55Speaker 1: It felt like a lot of that stuff was being
- 2:57Speaker 1: swept under the rug and not necessarily being rectified. Well,
- 3:01Speaker 1: it came back to bite them at the most inopportune time.
- 3:04Speaker 2: Obviously, a big talking point in this game.
- 3:07Speaker 1: Coming out of this game, I should say, will revolve
- 3:10Speaker 1: around the future of offensive coordinator Kevin Bittullo. And look,
- 3:14Speaker 1: when you lose a game like that, and it's been
- 3:16Speaker 1: a prevailing theme all season, it's tough to see a
- 3:20Speaker 1: path where he's able to come back, where the organization
- 3:24Speaker 1: would want that to be something that continues down the
- 3:30Speaker 1: line when you look at all of the inefficiencies and
- 3:34Speaker 1: they just weren't able to put it together. Look, I
- 3:36Speaker 1: think Kevin Bittula does a really nice job on the
- 3:38Speaker 1: scripted plays. I think he's done a really nice job
- 3:41Speaker 1: in the red zone.
- 3:42Speaker 2: And yes, I do feel I still feel that a.
- 3:45Speaker 1: Lot of the criticism towards him is a little bit unbalanced.
- 3:49Speaker 1: I think you need to be able to see the
- 3:51Speaker 1: forest through the trees. He is a primary culprit, of course,
- 3:54Speaker 1: being the play caller, and you haven't seen any signs
- 3:57Speaker 1: of growth from the offense throughout the season, but he
- 4:00Speaker 1: really progressed. But I also look at it and I
- 4:04Speaker 1: listened to what players had to say in the locker room,
- 4:06Speaker 1: and a lot of that had to do with execution.
- 4:08Speaker 1: Sa Kwon Barkley accountable talking about execution. Jordanilatt is saying
- 4:12Speaker 1: it's unfair to pin it on Kevin Patullo talking about
- 4:15Speaker 1: how there's plays on the field that they didn't make.
- 4:18Speaker 1: Jalen Hurts has been accountable all season talking about execution,
- 4:22Speaker 1: and I can go down the line landon Dickerson as well.
- 4:26Speaker 1: This isn't a team that was pointing fingers. They put
- 4:30Speaker 1: a lot of it on themselves. Obviously, we know that
- 4:33Speaker 1: it's a nuanced conversation. It's a layered conversation. It's not
- 4:36Speaker 1: just Kevin Petullo. It shouldn't be viewed that way. It
- 4:40Speaker 1: wasn't just the offensive line and then being injured. But
- 4:43Speaker 1: I will say this, Kevin Patulo is the oly Eagles
- 4:45Speaker 1: offensive coordinator under the Knick, in the Knick Siriatti era
- 4:49Speaker 1: that hasn't had a dynamic rushing attack to lean on.
- 4:52Speaker 2: And when you don't have that, this is what you're
- 4:55Speaker 2: going to get.
- 4:56Speaker 1: And you look at the offenses in the past, the
- 4:58Speaker 1: passing game was more less the same. The difference is
- 5:02Speaker 1: is that they had a pretty imposing rushing attack to
- 5:06Speaker 1: hang their hat on and be the driving force of
- 5:08Speaker 1: the offense. And when you strip the offense of that,
- 5:11Speaker 1: this is what it is. This is Nick Sirianni's offense.
- 5:14Speaker 1: This is how he envisions it looking. You know, play
- 5:18Speaker 1: risk averse, can protect the football at all costs, and this.
- 5:23Speaker 2: Is kind of what it's going to be.
- 5:24Speaker 1: So really, in my estimation, anyway, no matter who you
- 5:28Speaker 1: plug in there as an offensive coordinator, the offense is
- 5:30Speaker 1: going to look more or less the same. Now they
- 5:32Speaker 1: may try some different things for a few weeks, but
- 5:34Speaker 1: ultimately it's going to revert back to the Nick Sirianni offense.
- 5:38Speaker 1: This is what he envisions with him at the helm
- 5:41Speaker 1: and Jalen Hurts as the quarterback. So take that as
- 5:43Speaker 1: you will, but clearly this is a disappointment.
- 5:47Speaker 2: When you have this much talent, you can't fall short
- 5:51Speaker 2: like this.
- 5:51Speaker 1: And I guess it should have been expected because we've
- 5:54Speaker 1: seen a lot of this throughout the season, and to
- 5:56Speaker 1: expect all of a sudden the Eagles to be able
- 5:58Speaker 1: to take advantage of a defense in the forty nine
- 6:01Speaker 1: ers that it's not even arguable. I believe they were
- 6:04Speaker 1: the most lackluster unit in the n in the NFL playoffs,
- 6:09Speaker 1: not just the NFC. But something has to change here.
- 6:14Speaker 1: So you look at some of the different things that
- 6:16Speaker 1: happened in this game. Lane Johnson didn't play, and Fred
- 6:20Speaker 1: Johnson after the game said that he learned that on Saturday.
- 6:23Speaker 1: And I think that in of itself is a little
- 6:26Speaker 1: bit challenging because you go through the whole week, Lane
- 6:28Speaker 1: Johnson practices, he's limited, and you get the sense that
- 6:31Speaker 1: he's going to give it a go, and you may
- 6:35Speaker 1: not know how long he's going to be able to
- 6:37Speaker 1: last in the game, But just being in the locker
- 6:39Speaker 1: room all week, how excited the players were knowing that
- 6:42Speaker 1: they were going to get their guy back. Right. Cam
- 6:45Speaker 1: Jurgens talked about getting the band back together and he said,
- 6:48Speaker 1: Lane Johnson is the lead guitarist that everyone goes to see.
- 6:51Speaker 1: And I asked him later, I said what league guitarist
- 6:53Speaker 1: would he be and he said the guy from Kiss,
- 6:55Speaker 1: which would be Ace Freely. So that's the highest compliment
- 6:58Speaker 1: you can give because as Freely an all timer and
- 7:02Speaker 1: he's since passed. But that's how excited the players were
- 7:06Speaker 1: about getting the prospects of getting Lane Johnson back.
- 7:09Speaker 2: He was ruled out before the game.
- 7:10Speaker 1: Of course, when the inactives came out, Fred Johnson starts
- 7:14Speaker 1: in that game. I didn't think he played particularly well.
- 7:17Speaker 1: I didn't think Cam Jurgens played particularly well. The offensive
- 7:20Speaker 1: line was okay, it was passable. It's better than it
- 7:23Speaker 1: has been at points this season, but they weren't the
- 7:26Speaker 1: dominant force that they've been all season long. I thought
- 7:28Speaker 1: Saquon Barkley did some really good things. Carried the ball,
- 7:31Speaker 1: twenty six times. They were kind of ineffective running the
- 7:34Speaker 1: ball between the tackles inside, as they have been all season.
- 7:37Speaker 1: There were some moments where they're able to find some
- 7:39Speaker 1: creases on the outside, which is where the forty nine
- 7:41Speaker 1: ers were most vulnerable. Tank Bixby had four carries for
- 7:44Speaker 1: nineteen yards. I thought he provided a spark when he
- 7:47Speaker 1: was in there on what I believe was the Eagles'
- 7:50Speaker 1: best drive of the season, or one of them, where
- 7:52Speaker 1: he had three carries for twenty yards. Saquon Barkley had
- 7:54Speaker 1: the twenty yard reception. Jalen Hurts made some nice throws
- 7:58Speaker 1: and they get that touchdown at Dallas. God but by
- 8:01Speaker 1: and large, this is a product what we just saw
- 8:04Speaker 1: has been a prevailing theme week after week with this
- 8:07Speaker 1: Eagles offense, and it felt like it wasn't a matter
- 8:11Speaker 1: of if, but when their shortcomings were going to come
- 8:14Speaker 1: back and haunt them. AJ Brown had a number of
- 8:17Speaker 1: drops in this game, I believe three, including on that
- 8:20Speaker 1: final drive, a really critical pass that he usually comes
- 8:24Speaker 1: up with. Aj was in the locker room tapping up
- 8:26Speaker 1: teammates giving him hugs. He was already dressed and making
- 8:29Speaker 1: his way around the locker room when we walked in
- 8:32Speaker 1: and when a couple of reporters asked him, you know,
- 8:35Speaker 1: they caught him while he was making his rounds and
- 8:38Speaker 1: he said, I'm about to head out. And so we
- 8:42Speaker 1: haven't spoken to AJ Brown since I believe December eighth,
- 8:45Speaker 1: which was when the Eagles played the Chargers, and he
- 8:48Speaker 1: spoke in the locker room after that game. I was
- 8:50Speaker 1: there for that. But aside from that, we haven't heard
- 8:53Speaker 1: from AJ Brown. So I'm not going to sit here
- 8:55Speaker 1: and try to guess what he was thinking or anything
- 8:59Speaker 1: like that. We haven't heard from him, so there's nothing
- 9:01Speaker 1: really to be able to gauge about his thought process,
- 9:05Speaker 1: how the season went, what was going through his mind.
- 9:09Speaker 1: You would like to hear him talk, especially after you
- 9:12Speaker 1: know he's mentioned at different points this season that he
- 9:15Speaker 1: wants that pressure, he wants the ball in critical moments. Well, Jay,
- 9:18Speaker 1: when Hurts put it on him and he wasn't able
- 9:20Speaker 1: to come up with that play. That's just one of
- 9:22Speaker 1: many instances throughout the game that didn't work out in
- 9:26Speaker 1: the Eagles favor. Jake Elliott, He's missed an extra point
- 9:29Speaker 1: and we're splitting hairs here, but the Eagles were in
- 9:32Speaker 1: theory in position late in that game, on that fourth
- 9:35Speaker 1: and eleven where they could kick a field goal. Had
- 9:38Speaker 1: it been a three point game, you tie the game
- 9:40Speaker 1: all of a sudden, it's anyone's game. It's potentially a
- 9:44Speaker 1: different outcome. And I mean, these are just things that
- 9:48Speaker 1: have happened all season long, and as Jay when Hurst
- 9:51Speaker 1: will say, it doesn't get you until it gets you.
- 9:54Speaker 1: So I want to go through some of the stats here.
- 9:58Speaker 1: Jay when Hurst completed twenty of thirty five pass attempts
- 10:01Speaker 1: for one sixty eight and a touchdown. Carried five times
- 10:04Speaker 1: for fourteen yards, sa Kwon Barkley twenty six carries one
- 10:07Speaker 1: hundred and twenty six yards. Zach Bond and Jordan Davis
- 10:10Speaker 1: led the Eagles with six tackles apiece. Inactive for the
- 10:13Speaker 1: Eagles outside linebacker Josh Uche, quarterback Sam Howell, cornerback Jacoryan Bennett,
- 10:19Speaker 1: running back AJ dill In, offensive lineman Brett Toth, right
- 10:22Speaker 1: tackle Lane Johnson, and defensive tackle Ty Robinson. I wrote
- 10:26Speaker 1: that it's worth noting that McWilliams was up over Bennett
- 10:29Speaker 1: for the first time this season. Jacoreyan Bennett hasn't really
- 10:33Speaker 1: given the Eagles much on special teams. He wasn't clearly
- 10:36Speaker 1: a trusted option as a depth piece at corner, and
- 10:39Speaker 1: I think in this situation, the Eagles may have thought,
- 10:41Speaker 1: why not give our rookie corner playoff exposure and maybe
- 10:45Speaker 1: he gives you a little bit more. I know he
- 10:47Speaker 1: was in on the on the field goal block team,
- 10:50Speaker 1: and I'd have to go back and look, I don't
- 10:51Speaker 1: think Mac played that much, but I just believe that
- 10:54Speaker 1: when it was sort of even, you show a little
- 10:57Speaker 1: deference to the draft pick there. But before the game,
- 11:02Speaker 1: as I mentioned, they elevated long snapper Charlie how Wood
- 11:04Speaker 1: and safe DeAndre sam from the practice squad. But I
- 11:09Speaker 1: think in this game it started off a little ominous,
- 11:12Speaker 1: right the Eagles won the toss, they elected to de
- 11:15Speaker 1: first they typically do to the second half. But in
- 11:17Speaker 1: an ironic twist, considering much of the conversation this week
- 11:21Speaker 1: centered around the forty nine ers lack of outside weapons,
- 11:24Speaker 1: Rock Purty connects with DeMarcus Robinson for sixty one yards
- 11:27Speaker 1: on the second play from scrimmage, and then he would
- 11:30Speaker 1: go back to the well four plays later, hitting Robinson
- 11:32Speaker 1: for the two yard touchdown. What was even stranger was
- 11:35Speaker 1: that perty didn't shy away from All Pro cornerback Quinyon Mitchell.
- 11:40Speaker 1: I thought the Eagles did a nice job setting the
- 11:42Speaker 1: tone offensively on their opening drive, which covered sixty three
- 11:45Speaker 1: yards over ten plays five minutes and thirty five seconds.
- 11:49Speaker 1: The possession featured a heavy dose of Barkley. He churned
- 11:51Speaker 1: out forty five yards on six carries, including a twenty
- 11:54Speaker 1: nine yard or on a second and eight. The run
- 11:56Speaker 1: formations were varied and the line generated consistent push up front.
- 12:00Speaker 1: But I thought what was most notable was the red
- 12:02Speaker 1: zone creativity. And it stood out to me because you
- 12:05Speaker 1: saw Dallas Goddard have another play in the red zone,
- 12:08Speaker 1: and they've done a really good job dialing up creative
- 12:11Speaker 1: ways to get the football of Dallas Goddard. He gets
- 12:13Speaker 1: in from one yard out, so it was a rush
- 12:16Speaker 1: and then that's when jklit missed the extra points. Starts
- 12:19Speaker 1: out seven to six. But I thought that that was
- 12:22Speaker 1: really good design there from Kevin Pittulo. In the second quarter,
- 12:27Speaker 1: the Eagles had an eleven play ninety nine yard scoring drive.
- 12:30Speaker 1: I mentioned that Hurts got rid of the ball on time,
- 12:33Speaker 1: was decisive on the move.
- 12:34Speaker 2: Barkley was heavily involved.
- 12:36Speaker 1: He had twenty yards on that second and sixth screen,
- 12:39Speaker 1: and then the Eagles worked in Tank Bigsby who had
- 12:41Speaker 1: twenty yards on three carries, and he definitely provided some
- 12:44Speaker 1: juice sporadic pass rush from the Eagles, which is weird
- 12:48Speaker 1: because you know, you saw Jay Looks Hunt have some
- 12:51Speaker 1: dominant moments. Jalen and Phillips was really good against the Bills.
- 12:55Speaker 1: He was good at different points this season. He didn't
- 12:58Speaker 1: do a lot no One. Smith came really close to
- 13:00Speaker 1: getting the Brock party on the touchdown that he threw
- 13:03Speaker 1: to Christian McCaffrey late in that game, but it was
- 13:06Speaker 1: really quiet and it allowed brock Purty plenty of time
- 13:09Speaker 1: to scan the field and look for work and work
- 13:11Speaker 1: through his progressions and deliver. But I thought Jordan Davis
- 13:14Speaker 1: had a really productive adding as a run defender. He
- 13:16Speaker 1: bottled up Christian McCaffrey at the line of scrimmage on
- 13:19Speaker 1: multiple occasions.
- 13:20Speaker 2: I thought the Eagles run defense did a.
- 13:22Speaker 1: Really nice job, But where I thought they were vulnerable
- 13:25Speaker 1: was over the middle. I thought their linebackers Zach Bond
- 13:28Speaker 1: and to Kobe Dean got exploited a little bit in coverage.
- 13:32Speaker 1: It's a tall order to be able to keep an
- 13:35Speaker 1: eye on, you know, Christian McCaffrey, but even their tight
- 13:38Speaker 1: end Jake Tongis. And I should mention that George Kittle
- 13:41Speaker 1: left the game a cart came out after he was
- 13:43Speaker 1: tackled after a six yard completion along the sideline by
- 13:46Speaker 1: Marcus Epps.
- 13:47Speaker 2: Didn't look good, was carted off.
- 13:50Speaker 1: Credit to the Eagles fans in attendance because they don't
- 13:53Speaker 1: pull any punches and they're typically tough on opposing players,
- 13:57Speaker 1: but they supported George Kittle.
- 13:59Speaker 2: You can see there was a lot of respect there.
- 14:01Speaker 1: And what I did here were cheers as he got
- 14:05Speaker 1: up and was sort of carting off, and there was
- 14:07Speaker 1: just a sign of respect there that I was able
- 14:10Speaker 1: to notice anyway. And I just thought that the Egos
- 14:17Speaker 1: defense had some moments of lapses, but they played well enough. Look,
- 14:20Speaker 1: Quinya Mitchell had two interceptions in that game. The first
- 14:23Speaker 1: interception after that he returned possession to the Eagles at
- 14:27Speaker 1: their own forty eight.
- 14:28Speaker 2: They couldn't do anything.
- 14:29Speaker 1: The offense went backwards, and then on the second interception,
- 14:32Speaker 1: they alway muster a field goal. Look, I thought that
- 14:35Speaker 1: there were plays to be made, and I thought the
- 14:38Speaker 1: defense made some stops when they needed to. But you
- 14:40Speaker 1: don't often see that defense real as they were a
- 14:44Speaker 1: little bit now. It wasn't anything glaring, but like I said,
- 14:48Speaker 1: the middle of the field allowing brock Purty to maneuver
- 14:50Speaker 1: the pocket, scan, stand and deliver and he's slippery back there.
- 14:55Speaker 1: But I thought he did a nice job sort of
- 14:59Speaker 1: navigating the pow and finding his receivers and didn't look
- 15:03Speaker 1: like I mean, he looked fearless out there. You got
- 15:05Speaker 1: to tip your hat to brock Purty and Kyle Shanahan
- 15:08Speaker 1: for really getting creative. There was that touchdown from that
- 15:11Speaker 1: Juwan Jennings the wide receiver, through to Christian McCaffrey, who
- 15:14Speaker 1: looked like he got behind ree blanket ship down the
- 15:16Speaker 1: right sideline. Just a lot of creativity that you don't
- 15:19Speaker 1: typically see from the Eagles, aside from maybe some red zone.
- 15:22Speaker 1: But I thought that this was a game that I
- 15:24Speaker 1: didn't think the defense played particularly well, and I certainly
- 15:27Speaker 1: didn't think the offense played well enough. The forty nine
- 15:30Speaker 1: ers deserved to win that football game, and the Eagles
- 15:35Speaker 1: coming out of the first half control the ball for
- 15:37Speaker 1: nineteen minutes and six seconds compared to ten fifty four
- 15:40Speaker 1: for the forty nine ers.
- 15:41Speaker 2: Here's another one.
- 15:42Speaker 1: While I didn't take issue with a whole lot from
- 15:44Speaker 1: the offensive play calling perspective early in this game, there
- 15:48Speaker 1: were times where I thought the Eagles were too bold
- 15:50Speaker 1: on some short yarded situations, opting to chuck it deep
- 15:53Speaker 1: to no success on a low percentage pass play rather
- 15:56Speaker 1: than hand it off to Barkley who had been churning
- 15:59Speaker 1: out productive runs. And speaking of runs, the Eagles were
- 16:01Speaker 1: committed to running inside when the forty nine ers had
- 16:04Speaker 1: done a nice job clogging things up from the interior. Sure,
- 16:07Speaker 1: the Eagles don't call a lot of outside runs typically
- 16:10Speaker 1: with the exception of Bigsby, who bounces most of his
- 16:13Speaker 1: runs to the perimeter. And it's sort of like you
- 16:16Speaker 1: never know, it's like a choose your own adventure. But
- 16:18Speaker 1: it's usually productive runs. But that's where the forty nine
- 16:20Speaker 1: ers were vulnerable. As I mentioned, whenever Bryce Huff, whenever
- 16:27Speaker 1: his name was announced by the stadium PA following a tackle,
- 16:31Speaker 1: it was met with a smattering of boost from the crowd.
- 16:33Speaker 2: So I thought that would be interesting.
- 16:35Speaker 1: But I want to take a look at and take
- 16:37Speaker 1: you back into the Eagles' locker room where it was
- 16:39Speaker 1: very somber as you might expect.
- 16:41Speaker 2: Everyone was in.
- 16:42Speaker 1: There, injured players, coaches, former players like al Sean Jeffrey
- 16:47Speaker 1: was in there, and as an aside, Ben Van Sumer
- 16:51Speaker 1: was in there. So those of you may be curious,
- 16:53Speaker 1: I was able to catch up with him. He's doing
- 16:55Speaker 1: really well in his progress from his injury that he
- 16:58Speaker 1: sustained on the first play of the season. Was really
- 17:00Speaker 1: great to catch up with him. As you all know,
- 17:02Speaker 1: I have a good rapport with him. I've talked to
- 17:04Speaker 1: him plenty over the past few seasons. Great guy, and
- 17:08Speaker 1: it was really good to see and hear that he's
- 17:11Speaker 1: doing well and trending in the right direction from his injury.
- 17:15Speaker 1: Saw Brandon Johnson in there, who of course ended the
- 17:17Speaker 1: season on the practice quite injury list with the ankle injury.
- 17:21Speaker 1: He said it was nothing serious and so that's good.
- 17:24Speaker 1: He'll be able to be able to train and get
- 17:26Speaker 1: ready for training camp. The Eagles have a lot of
- 17:29Speaker 1: They've shown a lot of interest in working with Brandon
- 17:33Speaker 1: his development, and a lot, like I said, a lot
- 17:37Speaker 1: of former Eagles there, Slay Avonte Maddox, Fletcher Cox, who
- 17:41Speaker 1: was an honorary captain, Corey Clement was there and so yeah,
- 17:46Speaker 1: I mean, as you might expect, that locker room was
- 17:48Speaker 1: really somber, and you saw Dallas Goddard have tears in
- 17:51Speaker 1: his eyes, just looked like he was processing the.
- 17:54Speaker 2: Moment as many of their as many of his teammates were.
- 17:57Speaker 1: Look, you don't know if your Dallas Goddard, if you're
- 18:00Speaker 1: going to play with that group again, if you're going
- 18:02Speaker 1: to be in that locker room again. That's sort of
- 18:05Speaker 1: a heavy subject. Fresh off of a loss. You're trying
- 18:08Speaker 1: to process the loss, but then you also don't realize
- 18:11Speaker 1: you also are trying to realize that you might not
- 18:14Speaker 1: play with these guys again. And I think Jordan Malata
- 18:16Speaker 1: said he didn't start crying until he saw Dallas Goddard
- 18:19Speaker 1: and how they played together for eight years and the
- 18:22Speaker 1: bond and the connection and how many you know, how
- 18:24Speaker 1: many moments they've shared together over the years. And that's
- 18:27Speaker 1: something that I think may not be fully appreciated from
- 18:29Speaker 1: the outside. You may look at this game and say,
- 18:32Speaker 1: they lost. I don't care, you know, fire this guy
- 18:35Speaker 1: do this, But these are human beings. It's time to
- 18:38Speaker 1: put things into perspective here, and these type of things
- 18:42Speaker 1: weigh heavily depending on the person and different circumstances.
- 18:46Speaker 2: Read Blanken ships another player.
- 18:47Speaker 1: You can clearly see the emotion sort of taking over
- 18:52Speaker 1: knowing that he may not be playing with these guys again.
- 18:55Speaker 1: He saw tears in his eyes. Lennon Dickerson looked very
- 18:58Speaker 1: upset from the law and was very short in his answers,
- 19:02Speaker 1: but he credit to him for being available and with
- 19:05Speaker 1: being willing to speak. DeVante Smith spoke after the game.
- 19:09Speaker 1: I didn't get a chance to get in on that,
- 19:12Speaker 1: but I was definitely in on Jordan my lot at
- 19:14Speaker 1: Landon Dickerson, Saquon Barkley, Dallas Goddard. Just a really really
- 19:21Speaker 1: quiet locker room and they'll have locker clean out, so
- 19:25Speaker 1: maybe we'll get a chance to hear from some others.
- 19:27Speaker 1: I would love to hear from Nakobe Dean. I didn't
- 19:30Speaker 1: get a chance to get over there for him. There
- 19:32Speaker 1: was just a lot going on in that locker room,
- 19:34Speaker 1: as you might imagine, but a lot of ownership, a
- 19:37Speaker 1: lot of accountability, and they put the onus on them,
- 19:41Speaker 1: which is noble. But Kevin Patulo, Nick Siriani, and even
- 19:47Speaker 1: on the defensive side, Vic Fangio and that coaching staff.
- 19:50Speaker 1: I mean they didn't have their best games, and so
- 19:53Speaker 1: you have to look at everything in its totality. I
- 19:55Speaker 1: know everyone wants to point not everyone that's not fair.
- 19:58Speaker 1: I know many want to point the finger solely at
- 20:01Speaker 1: Kevin Patulo for the demise of the twenty twenty five
- 20:04Speaker 1: Philadelphia Eagles, if you will.
- 20:05Speaker 2: But honestly, that's probably not the best way to go
- 20:09Speaker 2: about it.
- 20:10Speaker 1: You have to see the forest through the trees and
- 20:11Speaker 1: really take a step back and look at a lot
- 20:14Speaker 1: of the different reasons why the offense didn't fulfill expectations.
- 20:18Speaker 1: You look at the offensive line, that is the key
- 20:20Speaker 1: to the Eagles' success. If they're not able to run, block,
- 20:23Speaker 1: if they're not able to get the running game going,
- 20:26Speaker 1: sort of, it's a trickle down effect.
- 20:28Speaker 2: It's a domino effect. And I thought jayalhen.
- 20:31Speaker 1: Hurts was really good earlier in the year. He hit
- 20:33Speaker 1: a lull a little bit in the middle of the season.
- 20:36Speaker 1: I thought he played fine against the forty nine Ers,
- 20:38Speaker 1: not his best game. The win certainly was a factor,
- 20:41Speaker 1: But Brock Perdy played in that same weather and Brock
- 20:43Speaker 1: Purdy made a lot of big time throws in that one,
- 20:46Speaker 1: and I thought that there's not much more you can
- 20:49Speaker 1: ask for as a quarterback, as an offense that puts
- 20:52Speaker 1: takes a lot of pride in, you know, being able
- 20:55Speaker 1: to finish off games, and they weren't able to do that.
- 20:58Speaker 1: And as I said many times this season, it was
- 21:01Speaker 1: only going to be a matter of time before the
- 21:03Speaker 1: defense can't pick up the tab, they can't carry you
- 21:06Speaker 1: to the finish line, and the offense has to do
- 21:08Speaker 1: just enough to hold up the end.
- 21:09Speaker 2: Of the bargain. And they were not able to do that.
- 21:12Speaker 2: So disappointing loss.
- 21:14Speaker 1: The season ends, and there's going to be a lot
- 21:17Speaker 1: to unpack in the days and the months coming up here,
- 21:21Speaker 1: in terms of the free agents, in terms of draft,
- 21:23Speaker 1: in terms of coaching, all these different things I should say,
- 21:26Speaker 1: in terms of the offensive coordinator and that situation, and
- 21:30Speaker 1: probably many other things that I'm not thinking right now.
- 21:33Speaker 1: But I'm just trying myself to process the loss process.
- 21:37Speaker 1: Where we go from here, what's going to be the
- 21:40Speaker 1: next step, what I'm going to be you know, the
- 21:42Speaker 1: podcast and the draft coverage and the free agency and
- 21:45Speaker 1: all the stuff that I'm going to be bringing to you.
