- 0:24Speaker 4: You're looking forward to the draft, You're looking forward to
- 0:26Speaker 4: being done with the Yeah.
- 0:27Speaker 2: Joe All's nicknames should be Joe Alt delete.
- 0:30Speaker 3: I'm boring. I don't have the interesting specifically that you
- 0:33Speaker 3: have on Twitter.
- 0:34Speaker 2: Do you follow everyone that covers the Patriots?
- 0:38Speaker 3: Not everybody? No?
- 0:39Speaker 5: Do that?
- 0:40Speaker 2: Why because you know your algorithm?
- 0:42Speaker 3: But that's just stuff I don't want.
- 0:43Speaker 2: The only backstory of prequel that anyone is waiting for
- 0:47Speaker 2: is growing up Parilla.
- 0:48Speaker 6: I feel like I'm getting old and I'm not liking
- 0:50Speaker 6: things like I used to do.
- 0:51Speaker 7: There any more Patriots stuff to talk about here in
- 0:53Speaker 7: our last fifteen minutes, because.
- 0:54Speaker 6: What else any any Patriots stuff though that uh happen?
- 0:58Speaker 3: You can't try and so don't put me in the
- 1:00Speaker 3: category of the billbots, right, Phil Bows, I like bio.
- 1:04Speaker 5: This is Patriots Unfiltered, presented by Toyota's official website for
- 1:08Speaker 5: deals by a Toyota dot Com.
- 1:12Speaker 2: All right, Welcome the Patriots unfiltered. It is Thursday here
- 1:16Speaker 2: at Gillette Stadium, and of course we get closer and
- 1:20Speaker 2: closer to the draft. It's silly season with all the
- 1:23Speaker 2: rumors and JJ McCarthy rising up. But I think the
- 1:27Speaker 2: headline today has to be the passing of O. J. Simpson.
- 1:32Speaker 2: You know, I guess he had cancer, didn't know. Yeah,
- 1:37Speaker 2: his last post on social was in February, so you know,
- 1:41Speaker 2: chances are it was, you know, so like, I'm not
- 1:44Speaker 2: sad about it, obviously, but I think it's sort of
- 1:47Speaker 2: a it marks, you know, something in American pop culture history.
- 1:52Speaker 2: Sports it it you know, traverses a whole bunch of
- 1:56Speaker 2: different silos in our country.
- 1:59Speaker 7: And now now he's on yeah, uh kind of shout.
- 2:02Speaker 7: My dad worked it for Wilson Sporting Goods up in Buffalo,
- 2:05Speaker 7: went back when he was at his prime, and so
- 2:06Speaker 7: my dad had interactions with him. I think he actually
- 2:08Speaker 7: my uncle had like a signed football of him. But
- 2:12Speaker 7: and then he was really hilarious and they get gun too, Like,
- 2:14Speaker 7: I mean, it was just and I think everybody remembers
- 2:16Speaker 7: probably where they were when the when the whole car
- 2:18Speaker 7: chase too. I mean I remember coming back from a
- 2:20Speaker 7: summer hockey game at Babson and you know what was
- 2:22Speaker 7: going on, and just you know, one of those before
- 2:25Speaker 7: cable news really existed. It was one of those all
- 2:27Speaker 7: of a sudden, we're live following this and I don't
- 2:30Speaker 7: really remember anything like that before that.
- 2:32Speaker 2: I was in the Prudential Center mall. You know, they
- 2:35Speaker 2: have that mall there, and I think it's legal Seafood.
- 2:37Speaker 2: It's kind of open, and they had all the TVs
- 2:40Speaker 2: up and walk by and see this white bronco and
- 2:43Speaker 2: what's going on And you see the lower third and wow,
- 2:47Speaker 2: they're chasing they're chasing OJ.
- 2:48Speaker 7: Yeah, And I lived in La I kind of did
- 2:50Speaker 7: like the the OJ tour, you know, like drove through
- 2:52Speaker 7: Brentwood and I mean obviously he was going on the
- 2:54Speaker 7: four or five. But the restaurant that they that they
- 2:57Speaker 7: ate at that Ron Goldman and and and Nicole right,
- 3:00Speaker 7: Nicole Simpson ate at the Little Mexican Place in Venice.
- 3:04Speaker 7: I mean it's just you know, I don't know, you
- 3:05Speaker 7: like that, that kind of true crime stuff.
- 3:06Speaker 2: It's interesting.
- 3:08Speaker 7: So no end of an era though, Yeah yeah, oh Jay, Yeah,
- 3:12Speaker 7: Like I said, it's not something like we're sad about
- 3:15Speaker 7: I'm not, but it is something.
- 3:17Speaker 2: It it's notable.
- 3:19Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 3:20Speaker 7: Yeah, there's a couple of good documentaries too out there
- 3:22Speaker 7: of you know, yeah, I think he did it.
- 3:25Speaker 2: But you know, here's another one like if he hadn't
- 3:27Speaker 2: done that, like his life would have been.
- 3:31Speaker 7: You know, I mean he celebrated I probably at least
- 3:34Speaker 7: two or three more naked gun movies.
- 3:35Speaker 2: I mean, he was one of the greatest running backs
- 3:38Speaker 2: of all time and pitch Man, you know, yeah, he
- 3:42Speaker 2: was the Peyton Manning of his day.
- 3:43Speaker 3: Yeah, but you know he had he was in the
- 3:46Speaker 3: midst of a tremendous post playing career. Yeah, that obviously
- 3:51Speaker 3: is completely gone. Because I agree with you. I don't
- 3:53Speaker 3: know how you can sit here and have any degree
- 3:56Speaker 3: of Yeah, you know, maybe it's a good day for
- 3:59Speaker 3: the old man's you know, I don't. I don't even that.
- 4:03Speaker 2: I don't think it helps them at all.
- 4:05Speaker 3: Probably not, Like you'll never have a hard time sitting
- 4:08Speaker 3: here trying to tell you what we lost a great
- 4:10Speaker 3: running back today.
- 4:11Speaker 7: Yeah, I don't have You wonder if they still wondered
- 4:15Speaker 7: something would come out that they would nail him finally.
- 4:17Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, maybe that is his bust still in
- 4:20Speaker 2: the Hall of Fame, Canton, I believe.
- 4:22Speaker 7: So I saw a statement that, you know, his legacy
- 4:27Speaker 7: on the football field will remain that kind of thing.
- 4:29Speaker 2: Why would you bother?
- 4:30Speaker 3: And I don't really understand. I think the Heisman Trophy
- 4:33Speaker 3: did something similar. I don't know why you would feel
- 4:36Speaker 3: like we need to do that exactly like anything.
- 4:39Speaker 7: Right, So Reggie Bush lost his who lost their hesan
- 4:43Speaker 7: Reggie Reggie Bush lost his Heisman over like his mom
- 4:45Speaker 7: getting money and yeah.
- 4:46Speaker 3: Yeah, over stuff that's legal right now, easily, yeah.
- 4:51Speaker 2: Right, yeah. So I don't get Canton or the Heisman
- 4:56Speaker 2: Commission doing that. I don't know. I have the bills
- 4:59Speaker 2: done it, I'm serious. Have they done anything? You know?
- 5:03Speaker 7: I mean they're trying to raise money, I probably for
- 5:06Speaker 7: their stadium anything.
- 5:08Speaker 2: Because last the last time I remember, they still had
- 5:11Speaker 2: his name up around their ring of ring honor. I
- 5:14Speaker 2: think so I would have taken that sucker down. I'm sorry. Yeah,
- 5:19Speaker 2: I mean I guess innocent until proven guilty, and he
- 5:22Speaker 2: wasn't proven. You know, he was proven guilty in civil court,
- 5:26Speaker 2: but not in criminal court.
- 5:29Speaker 7: That's another thing that I really we all know he did, right,
- 5:31Speaker 7: I Mean I remember in high school and we would
- 5:33Speaker 7: do you know, morning meetings and we would do updates
- 5:35Speaker 7: on like the trial, and you know, the the gloves
- 5:38Speaker 7: doesn't fit, you have to quit. I mean, it's just
- 5:41Speaker 7: it was. I mean, now we're so overwhelmed by news
- 5:44Speaker 7: constantly that everything is just news and it's always going
- 5:47Speaker 7: and that was just one of those things that was
- 5:49Speaker 7: standard stood by itself like that was you know, just
- 5:52Speaker 7: a kind of a precursor almost to what was to come,
- 5:54Speaker 7: and certainly was worthy of it with it being a
- 5:57Speaker 7: star that was you know, accused of murder. But you know,
- 5:59Speaker 7: now it's feels like that's a constantly on their trial
- 6:02Speaker 7: on all the time and breaking news all the time,
- 6:04Speaker 7: and you know, I mean, living in La the car
- 6:07Speaker 7: chases like every other week. You know, then they go
- 6:09Speaker 7: right into them like yeah, I don't know what it
- 6:11Speaker 7: was like before OJ, but that that happens a lot
- 6:13Speaker 7: out there.
- 6:13Speaker 2: So that's OJ. And then of course, you know, no,
- 6:18Speaker 2: less important here, probably more important here is the draft.
- 6:22Speaker 2: And we've been discussing ongoing conversation here. Anything changed for
- 6:27Speaker 2: you since Tuesday?
- 6:29Speaker 3: So let me ask you guys. Okay, no, I don't
- 6:32Speaker 3: really have I don't have much of a take, but
- 6:34Speaker 3: I'm just curious how much stock you guys are putting
- 6:38Speaker 3: in the JJ McCarthy stuff, specifically for us the Patriots.
- 6:42Speaker 7: I was actually talking to Evan about it. Were kind
- 6:44Speaker 7: of joking Evan. Evan doesn't like JJ McCarthy very much
- 6:47Speaker 7: at all.
- 6:48Speaker 3: But that's I mean, it's sort of irrelevant to what
- 6:51Speaker 3: you know. Yeah, yeah, you really think that the Patriots
- 6:54Speaker 3: I have strong interest.
- 6:55Speaker 7: I would say my feeling would be yes, but in
- 6:58Speaker 7: like the early second round, like you know, like that's
- 7:00Speaker 7: where it would make sense to me to take a
- 7:03Speaker 7: chance on him. But I just think there's too many unknowns,
- 7:05Speaker 7: and that's what I kind of keep going back to
- 7:07Speaker 7: at third. Overall, they this organization needs a slim dick.
- 7:11Speaker 7: I don't care what position.
- 7:12Speaker 2: I did print out the Dane Brugler Beast, the whole
- 7:14Speaker 2: thing yesterday.
- 7:16Speaker 3: I wanted, did you break the printer?
- 7:18Speaker 2: I printed the whole thing black and white.
- 7:21Speaker 3: I want to come up then and make some cop
- 7:22Speaker 3: I did print.
- 7:23Speaker 7: Actually I have with me because we're going to record
- 7:25Speaker 7: the quarterbacks segment. I did print the quarterbacks. I thought
- 7:29Speaker 7: those were more interesting.
- 7:30Speaker 2: So I mean, he's got JJ McCarthy is the fourth
- 7:32Speaker 2: quarterback get a copy of your copy, because that's really all. Yeah, yeah,
- 7:37Speaker 2: he's got JJ McCarthy is number four. And I was
- 7:40Speaker 2: thinking about it like every year, like there's the end
- 7:45Speaker 2: of college season sort of thinking on these guys, and
- 7:49Speaker 2: then the silly season starts and guys start to shift.
- 7:53Speaker 2: But then almost invariably, what we thought originally is what happened.
- 7:58Speaker 3: Right, you know, that's the theory. It doesn't really change
- 8:02Speaker 3: a whole lot, right internally within the league.
- 8:06Speaker 2: Yeh, unless the guy gets caught on film.
- 8:08Speaker 3: That's that's a different that's a different thing. But like
- 8:11Speaker 3: whatever the league felt about everything is generally the way
- 8:16Speaker 3: it turns out come draft time. Right along the way,
- 8:20Speaker 3: the media goes up and down and we ride through
- 8:24Speaker 3: all the different rumors. But I think in general Fred's right.
- 8:27Speaker 2: And so if that's the case this time, I would
- 8:30Speaker 2: answer to your question. I would say no, I would
- 8:32Speaker 2: say they're not considering him at number three. Yeah, but
- 8:35Speaker 2: that's just me.
- 8:37Speaker 7: I mean, he's he mean, he's got that thing that's
- 8:39Speaker 7: you know, he's just an incredible leader, and it's so
- 8:41Speaker 7: hard to quantify that as a professional. And I mean
- 8:45Speaker 7: and looking back, I mean, the kid has lost like
- 8:47Speaker 7: three or four games ever in football. I mean it's
- 8:49Speaker 7: just a scene like that's what the record is.
- 8:52Speaker 2: That's kind of I mean for some people it's not
- 8:54Speaker 2: new information. But for me, it was like he came
- 8:56Speaker 2: into Michigan and on like day one said I'm here
- 8:59Speaker 2: to turn this program around. I'm here to bring it back.
- 9:02Speaker 2: He was telling teammates, if you're here to chase women
- 9:04Speaker 2: and party, see you later, Like that's what he was saying.
- 9:08Speaker 8: You know.
- 9:09Speaker 2: So I mean that means something to me. I mean
- 9:12Speaker 2: he's hard of one, but also but also he has
- 9:16Speaker 2: that attitude like Brady, where you know, he's here to
- 9:21Speaker 2: do one thing and that's when Yeah.
- 9:23Speaker 7: I mean it seems like it, but I again, like
- 9:25Speaker 7: you know, look at Trevor Lawrence right, like he never
- 9:27Speaker 7: had lost really any games coming into you know, and
- 9:30Speaker 7: so it doesn't really it's not really him. Like I mean, tea,
- 9:33Speaker 7: every team plays really hard and they win around.
- 9:35Speaker 3: I like Fred's you know, Fred talking about the intangibles,
- 9:37Speaker 3: which I do think irrelevant. You know, when you know,
- 9:39Speaker 3: if he had that kind of a mindset, he was
- 9:41Speaker 3: that kind of a leader, I think all that's important. Yeah,
- 9:45Speaker 3: I'm not really interested in the guy's high school rerecord.
- 9:47Speaker 3: I heard someone talk here he won because he he
- 9:49Speaker 3: had like his regular high school. He was like Nazareth
- 9:51Speaker 3: High School. Then he went to IMG he won there.
- 9:54Speaker 3: He won it. Well, no kidding, he's a big time recruit.
- 9:58Speaker 3: How many games you think they lose? You know, we
- 10:00Speaker 3: had a great high school quarterback who's lucky if he's
- 10:03Speaker 3: going to play Division III. He didn't lose any games either. Like,
- 10:06Speaker 3: when you're a really good high school quarterback at that level,
- 10:10Speaker 3: how many games are you losing in high school?
- 10:12Speaker 7: Right?
- 10:12Speaker 3: You know? Okay, so he went to Michigan and in
- 10:14Speaker 3: two years he lost one game. Great, that's I mean
- 10:17Speaker 3: that that's a factor. But I just think that people
- 10:21Speaker 3: over overrate this stuff. Exact that kind of thing. The
- 10:25Speaker 3: stuff you were talking af Fred, I think is valuable.
- 10:28Speaker 3: The fact that he has that kind of a mentality.
- 10:30Speaker 2: I like that, you know. So, And then I heard
- 10:32Speaker 2: them talking this morning. In the cases of Caleb Williams,
- 10:35Speaker 2: Jaden Daniels, and Drake May, there's no doubt that they
- 10:39Speaker 2: were the best football player on their team. They were
- 10:41Speaker 2: the best player on the team. With JJ McCarthy, it's unsure,
- 10:46Speaker 2: it's unclear.
- 10:47Speaker 3: I heard I think I heard Berth this morning say,
- 10:49Speaker 3: that's what I was listening to. Has has how many
- 10:52Speaker 3: games has did Michigan win the last two years where
- 10:55Speaker 3: JJ McCarthy was the best player, whereas pretty much every
- 10:59Speaker 3: game that North Carolina when USC had to win probably
- 11:03Speaker 3: uh for two years, was because they were the best
- 11:07Speaker 3: player in the field. But but then, but then he said,
- 11:10Speaker 3: but Daniels probably also hasn't had a lot of them.
- 11:13Speaker 2: Yeah, but then you go back to the JJ McCarty thing,
- 11:15Speaker 2: is well, how many games did he have to be
- 11:17Speaker 2: the best player on the field? And was he asked
- 11:20Speaker 2: to be the best player in the field? And so
- 11:23Speaker 2: this So that's that's the problem with JJ McCarthy. It's
- 11:25Speaker 2: such a good solid street of my point.
- 11:27Speaker 3: Yeah, you know, you know about McCarthy, and I'm with you, guys,
- 11:31Speaker 3: I kind of I'm not necessarily buying the Patriots strong
- 11:35Speaker 3: interest in McCarthy. I'm not necessarily there yet. But this
- 11:41Speaker 3: notion that he's the safe one, I don't understand.
- 11:44Speaker 2: I don't understand that either.
- 11:46Speaker 3: No, I mean I think he's a safe pick.
- 11:48Speaker 2: He's a safe pick if all you're gonna do is
- 11:49Speaker 2: run the ball.
- 11:50Speaker 3: No, But like, what can I mean if you really
- 11:53Speaker 3: wanted to do that, you can't. You can't draft like
- 11:56Speaker 3: Caleb Williams and just say you know, I'm not waste. No, absolutely,
- 12:01Speaker 3: But if that's all you want to do, why do
- 12:03Speaker 3: I need to draft? Why do you need to draft
- 12:05Speaker 3: anybody in the first round?
- 12:06Speaker 7: Right?
- 12:07Speaker 3: Yeah? Which is that's that's why I'm anti McCarthy. If
- 12:10Speaker 3: I want a game manager type like in the in
- 12:13Speaker 3: the negative sense, yep, you know, I don't need him
- 12:18Speaker 3: like I can do brock Purty. I can just plug
- 12:20Speaker 3: him in like you know, the the net neutral that
- 12:23Speaker 3: that that Bart and Evan talk about. I don't understand
- 12:28Speaker 3: why what makes JJ McCarthy the safe pick out of
- 12:32Speaker 3: him and Jayden Daniels or him and Michael Pennis, him
- 12:36Speaker 3: and Drake.
- 12:36Speaker 2: Mean today's NFL, you can't get away with that. You've
- 12:39Speaker 2: got to throw the ball. There's no way that you
- 12:43Speaker 2: can dominate the line of scrimmage in the NFL the
- 12:45Speaker 2: way Michigan dominated the line.
- 12:47Speaker 3: Of I agree with all of that, Yeah, you know,
- 12:49Speaker 3: in terms of play style, I'm just trying. I'm specifically
- 12:53Speaker 3: wondering what do people think is safer about JJ McCarthy
- 12:58Speaker 3: than Jayden Daniels or any the other quarterback.
- 13:00Speaker 7: I don't know what's safe about him. I think it's
- 13:02Speaker 7: the unknown about him, and he's he's toolsy, you know,
- 13:04Speaker 7: like he's he's probably and he's that B level quarterback
- 13:07Speaker 7: right now below the top three. I mean, at least
- 13:10Speaker 7: in my mind where I think Pennix and Bonnicks and
- 13:12Speaker 7: you know, those guys kind of have their issues. But
- 13:15Speaker 7: you can look at you know, JJ McCarthy and say
- 13:18Speaker 7: he's athletics. I think it's the biggest run. But he's
- 13:21Speaker 7: the biggest risk because you don't really know for sure.
- 13:23Speaker 7: I mean, you can talk yourself into him, you know.
- 13:25Speaker 7: It's almost like if mac Jones was super athletic and
- 13:28Speaker 7: didn't really play with anybody, you know, and it's like
- 13:30Speaker 7: there's something there.
- 13:31Speaker 2: He wins a lot. But so let's just say you're
- 13:33Speaker 2: a scout personnel guy, Elliott Wolf whoever, you know what
- 13:39Speaker 2: he can do? What what are you looking for in
- 13:43Speaker 2: JJ McCarthy that can tell you, all right, he's worth
- 13:46Speaker 2: taking the risk on. And I agree it's kind of
- 13:48Speaker 2: a risk. But like to me, the answer would be
- 13:52Speaker 2: how smart is he? Is he coachable? Like so like
- 13:56Speaker 2: one of the knocks on him is everything's a fastball,
- 13:58Speaker 2: you know, it's you know, every He doesn't really have
- 14:01Speaker 2: touch yet, so I would be looking for, you know,
- 14:05Speaker 2: can he can he process fast? And can he learn
- 14:10Speaker 2: to you know, uh, moderate his his his touch.
- 14:16Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm not telling you he can.
- 14:17Speaker 2: But he's got that. Like you said, he's got the tools.
- 14:20Speaker 3: You know, I don't think he has as good as
- 14:22Speaker 3: tools as the other guys do.
- 14:23Speaker 2: No, but he might have that. You know, Brady didn't
- 14:27Speaker 2: either coming out of college, according.
- 14:29Speaker 3: To I'm not telling I'm not giving you the reasons
- 14:32Speaker 3: why he can't play. I think there's a chance that
- 14:35Speaker 3: he could play, absolutely, But what I don't get is
- 14:39Speaker 3: the idea that somehow, if you want to you want
- 14:43Speaker 3: to avoid that that real bust because because his floor
- 14:48Speaker 3: is hot, I don't understand.
- 14:51Speaker 2: But if there's some way to determine that between he
- 14:54Speaker 2: may and Daniels, he's the smartest. JJ McCarthy is the
- 14:57Speaker 2: smartest in terms of processing understand the game. Maybe that
- 15:02Speaker 2: does tilt, you know, the scales in his favor.
- 15:05Speaker 7: Maybe I just don't think for the Patriots. I mean,
- 15:07Speaker 7: Paul said the term high floor, and I just I'm
- 15:09Speaker 7: not interested in that this year. I mean I just
- 15:12Speaker 7: I think that they would be better off, you know,
- 15:15Speaker 7: they'd be better off taking Joe alt at three then
- 15:19Speaker 7: you know, to put all their ducks in the row
- 15:21Speaker 7: with with JJ McCarthy and hope that it works out.
- 15:24Speaker 7: I don't. I don't see the safe pick to him
- 15:26Speaker 7: at all.
- 15:26Speaker 3: I mean feel the same way. And again, I'm not
- 15:29Speaker 3: telling you that I'm against J. J. McCarthy as a prospect.
- 15:32Speaker 3: I'm intrigued. I mean, I think there's an element of unknown,
- 15:36Speaker 3: like everybody said, but I don't understand this is widespread
- 15:40Speaker 3: now like the Patriots might like him because it's less
- 15:44Speaker 3: like it's going to be less pressure on the new
- 15:46Speaker 3: regime because he's safer.
- 15:48Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 15:49Speaker 3: I mean, he's gonna and I don't like I've heard
- 15:51Speaker 3: it on you know a lot of my shows, right,
- 15:54Speaker 3: I've heard it on NBC Sports Boston with with Michael Holly.
- 15:59Speaker 3: I've heard it with Zoe a little bit.
- 16:02Speaker 2: Well, did anyone ask him why is why do you
- 16:04Speaker 2: think he's safe that? Well?
- 16:05Speaker 7: I mean, I'm like, this is kind of too those
- 16:08Speaker 7: are hearing these McCarthy.
- 16:10Speaker 3: Yeah, and again this isn't I'm not making fun of
- 16:12Speaker 3: those who are on the McCarthy train. I'm just wondering
- 16:16Speaker 3: what about I think that there's an element of risk
- 16:19Speaker 3: with all these guys. I think, you know, you come
- 16:21Speaker 3: into the league, there's no way you can know for
- 16:23Speaker 3: certain how these guys are going to translate, right, Otherwise
- 16:26Speaker 3: they would never make the amount of mistakes that they
- 16:28Speaker 3: do with all positions, not just quarterbacks, but especially quarterbacks.
- 16:33Speaker 3: And what makes this guy safe? And I did I
- 16:37Speaker 3: heard a lot of this with Mac Jones that I
- 16:38Speaker 3: didn't understand. You know, he's the safe guy.
- 16:43Speaker 2: You know, we're not going to ask him to do
- 16:45Speaker 2: it with the other and.
- 16:46Speaker 3: Wildly more talented than Mac Jones like McCarthy. In fairness,
- 16:50Speaker 3: I do not think that he's you know, as my
- 16:53Speaker 3: buddy Murray says, Midwest Mac, I don't think that's really
- 16:57Speaker 3: an apt comparison at all. McCarthy has far more cleticism
- 17:01Speaker 3: in skills, yep.
- 17:02Speaker 2: Just in terms of arm strength, running ability. Yeah, because
- 17:07Speaker 2: numbers wise, you can't even compare Mac kills him right
- 17:10Speaker 2: in the numbers column, yep.
- 17:11Speaker 7: You know, But again it goes back to Mac playing
- 17:14Speaker 7: with an all star team and you know, and JJ
- 17:17Speaker 7: certainly his team was solid and in the style of offense,
- 17:19Speaker 7: but the style, style of offense, the way that they
- 17:22Speaker 7: asked him. I mean, I wouldn't be opposed to him
- 17:24Speaker 7: like late first round, early second. I just think the
- 17:26Speaker 7: talk of him being a top ten guy and someone
- 17:28Speaker 7: that the Patriots considered.
- 17:29Speaker 3: Taken a guy at three. It's a guy that you
- 17:32Speaker 3: think can be, you know, special.
- 17:34Speaker 2: Get a freaking star if you could, if you could
- 17:36Speaker 2: guarantee to me that they could trade down, get everything
- 17:39Speaker 2: else they need and get him, I'd be a lot
- 17:42Speaker 2: more interested than picking him at three.
- 17:44Speaker 7: Sure, yeah, you know, I mean me too. I mean
- 17:46Speaker 7: that's you know, I don't know. We me and I
- 17:48Speaker 7: have been talking a lot about him the last couple
- 17:50Speaker 7: of days of just you know, like, how realistic is it?
- 17:52Speaker 7: Does it even make sense that the like, because I
- 17:54Speaker 7: just think he's a he's a mid round first round pick.
- 17:56Speaker 7: I think some team will take the cheese and I
- 17:58Speaker 7: will take the by fifteen. Yeah, yeah, see that, And
- 18:02Speaker 7: that's I don't get it. That's crazy to me, that's crazy.
- 18:04Speaker 7: But I mean you can see some of the some
- 18:06Speaker 7: of the skills. It's just I don't know. We having
- 18:08Speaker 7: done it with Mac, we've been here before, and I
- 18:11Speaker 7: just I'd rather miss on a high ceiling guy and
- 18:13Speaker 7: take a big swing than to try to play it
- 18:15Speaker 7: safe and you know, get a guy who But is the.
- 18:17Speaker 2: Problem with McCarthy's is the dilemma. Yeah, with McCarthy's, we
- 18:22Speaker 2: don't know just how high a ceiling is, Like we
- 18:25Speaker 2: don't like, I don't know. I mean, it's never like
- 18:28Speaker 2: he's not done what he's been asked to do, but
- 18:30Speaker 2: he's just not been asked to do it right.
- 18:32Speaker 7: Yeah, But I also think he would have seen glimpses though, Like,
- 18:35Speaker 7: and it's just kind of the same way I feel
- 18:36Speaker 7: about Mac. Like, even if you want to blame the
- 18:39Speaker 7: surrounding circumstances, it's like great quarterbacks still show ways to
- 18:43Speaker 7: show what their super talents are. And I just it's
- 18:45Speaker 7: hard to think that he's going to get to the
- 18:47Speaker 7: NFL and then all of a sudden be this kind
- 18:49Speaker 7: of new dynamic player with you know that like you said,
- 18:52Speaker 7: is making all the right direct, you know, decisions, is
- 18:55Speaker 7: throwing the ball with pace when he has to.
- 18:57Speaker 6: You know, those kind of things. That's you know, and
- 18:59Speaker 6: I hate to.
- 19:00Speaker 2: Him to Brady, But even with Brady at Michigan sharing
- 19:04Speaker 2: snaps with Drew Henson. There was you know, the Orange
- 19:07Speaker 2: Bowl that you could point to of him bringing the
- 19:09Speaker 2: team back and putting the team on his shoulders and
- 19:12Speaker 2: they won because of him.
- 19:14Speaker 3: Yep.
- 19:14Speaker 2: You know you can't really do that with McCarthy.
- 19:17Speaker 7: Yeah, And I think, you know, with Drake May. You know,
- 19:19Speaker 7: I think is everybody's kind of preference. It's like, you know,
- 19:21Speaker 7: you've seen those glimpses and he's got similar kind of
- 19:24Speaker 7: issues that he needs to work through. I mean, the
- 19:26Speaker 7: big the word that pops up a lot from from
- 19:28Speaker 7: the Beast is is reckless, you know, making reckless decisions
- 19:31Speaker 7: and you know that's something that that can hurt you.
- 19:33Speaker 7: But I don't care about Like you got the arm,
- 19:35Speaker 7: you got the size, you've got some creativity, you know.
- 19:38Speaker 7: I like, let's miss on him, Like it's I just
- 19:41Speaker 7: I won't mind missing on Drake May. But I just
- 19:43Speaker 7: think if you're gonna take somebody like J. J. McCarthy,
- 19:46Speaker 7: you know you want to have him in the mid
- 19:48Speaker 7: first run, You're not, it's not that far.
- 19:49Speaker 2: I just want to know what Ben McAdoo thinks.
- 19:51Speaker 6: Well, So to tie it up right, put a bow
- 19:54Speaker 6: on it.
- 19:54Speaker 3: So Drake May, if he's gonna bust. If he can't
- 19:59Speaker 3: ever find a level of consistency right, he will not
- 20:04Speaker 3: pan out and that will be you know, his downfall.
- 20:08Speaker 3: He continues to make the kinds of mistakes that we've
- 20:09Speaker 3: seen when he tries to do too much in college.
- 20:12Speaker 3: He continues to do that.
- 20:14Speaker 7: Josh Allen stays in kind of those first couple of
- 20:16Speaker 7: years where it's like.
- 20:16Speaker 3: We doesn't refine his mechanics, improve his accuracy and avoid
- 20:21Speaker 3: you know risk. With McCarthy, it's that he's just not
- 20:27Speaker 3: that good, right, Like Fred says, we never got a
- 20:31Speaker 3: chance to see it when he had to put the
- 20:34Speaker 3: team on his back. And it's not his fault that
- 20:38Speaker 3: his conference. And again I touched on this on Tuesday.
- 20:41Speaker 3: For some reason, the Big Ten is considered, you know,
- 20:45Speaker 3: on par with the SEC, and all the other leagues aren't.
- 20:48Speaker 3: I don't get it because the Big Ten is so
- 20:50Speaker 3: top heavy with two teams to me, two and a
- 20:53Speaker 3: half teams. Because I think Penn State is good but
- 20:56Speaker 3: not great. The other two teams can play with anybody.
- 20:59Speaker 3: That's it. That's it. Yeah, I don't really am Zethy.
- 21:02Speaker 3: Clemson won national titles when they were at their heyday
- 21:05Speaker 3: in the in the acc the league's still stunk, right,
- 21:08Speaker 3: and no one said anything about Trevor Lawrence right now.
- 21:10Speaker 3: I understand that Drake May is not Trevor Lawrence in college.
- 21:13Speaker 3: That's not That's not my point. I'm just talking about
- 21:15Speaker 3: the level of competition hereeah is my point. So one guy,
- 21:22Speaker 3: he has all the tools, but you got to beat
- 21:24Speaker 3: some of the inconsistency out of him. The other guy
- 21:27Speaker 3: just might not have it right, So why is that
- 21:29Speaker 3: guy safe?
- 21:31Speaker 7: I don't get it, And I mean, I think it's
- 21:32Speaker 7: worth pointing out that Trevor Lawrence thing too, of how
- 21:35Speaker 7: does he react when he gets to a team where
- 21:36Speaker 7: it's not just a humming offense that's all built around him,
- 21:39Speaker 7: and then everything runs smoothly and he just you know,
- 21:41Speaker 7: can play his part. Like you know, it feels like
- 21:43Speaker 7: if Drake May comes in here and he sits for
- 21:45Speaker 7: a little bit and then he comes in like he's
- 21:47Speaker 7: gonna have to deliver some stuff if this team's gonna
- 21:50Speaker 7: you know, make that kind of jump. We felt like
- 21:52Speaker 7: with Bled Cell, you know a certain point where it's like, Okay,
- 21:54Speaker 7: this team's starting to really build around this quarterback. They're
- 21:56Speaker 7: starting to believe in him. We're seeing, you know, we're
- 21:58Speaker 7: seeing some some evidence that this is headed in the
- 22:01Speaker 7: right direction. It's just I think it's a lot to
- 22:03Speaker 7: ask of JJ McCarthy to go into a situation where he's,
- 22:05Speaker 7: you know, at least on the field, hasn't experienced a
- 22:08Speaker 7: ton of you know, adversity. He's pretty much been on
- 22:10Speaker 7: the winning end every single game he's taken the field
- 22:11Speaker 7: since high school. So you know, what's it look like
- 22:14Speaker 7: when his left tackle is a little rookie shaky.
- 22:16Speaker 3: I just, you know, looking looking back at the two
- 22:18Speaker 3: seasons he played, I would wonder how many games Michigan
- 22:21Speaker 3: played that they legitimately could have lost.
- 22:24Speaker 7: And my guess is that that number is less than five, right, yep, yeah, yeah, you.
- 22:29Speaker 3: Know, whereas you know, I just I feel like just
- 22:34Speaker 3: because like like North Carolina probably could have lost any
- 22:39Speaker 3: game in the last two years, Yeah, because they weren't,
- 22:43Speaker 3: you know, head and shoulders better than the other teams
- 22:46Speaker 3: in the league. As evidence, this year they lost some
- 22:49Speaker 3: some really mediocre to bad teams like Virginia, you know,
- 22:53Speaker 3: because they're not that much better than Virginia and and and.
- 22:56Speaker 2: I think, you know, along this same topic, you know,
- 23:00Speaker 2: in terms of games they should have won couldn't win.
- 23:03Speaker 2: Caleb Williams. I think even though he's the consensus first pick,
- 23:07Speaker 2: his stock is actually rising, if you can believe that,
- 23:09Speaker 2: because people are looking back and seeing just how bad
- 23:12Speaker 2: they're just how bad their defense was, and like he's
- 23:16Speaker 2: losing games scoring thirty and forty points when he cried, well, yeah,
- 23:21Speaker 2: you keep bringing that up. But I think you know,
- 23:24Speaker 2: people are looking at the games that they lost and say, no,
- 23:27Speaker 2: it wasn't Caleb Williams.
- 23:29Speaker 3: You know that's not why they lost. He wasn't today
- 23:33Speaker 3: with that stat was it? Because I know Fred and
- 23:35Speaker 3: I both heard the same interviews. Yeah, he went through
- 23:38Speaker 3: the whole Yet the only time Washington's defense allowed forty
- 23:43Speaker 3: two points all year was against USC in a game
- 23:46Speaker 3: that they won. That happened, that happened to UC like
- 23:49Speaker 3: six times.
- 23:50Speaker 7: Yeah, yeah, I think it's uh. I mean, I'm guessing
- 23:53Speaker 7: obviously everybody is that he's going to the Bears, but
- 23:55Speaker 7: it's gonna be an exciting ride for them.
- 23:57Speaker 6: Like I mean, I think that it's going to be.
- 23:58Speaker 7: Probably maybe a little bit of rollercoaster early on with him,
- 24:00Speaker 7: But again, I think he's worth missing on for the Bears.
- 24:04Speaker 7: And he's got that you know, special potential talent to
- 24:07Speaker 7: just make plays and you know, if he's able to
- 24:09Speaker 7: get some good protection and you know, learn to play
- 24:11Speaker 7: within their system. I mean, he's got some pieces around.
- 24:14Speaker 2: I just wonder what the Bears think of the other
- 24:16Speaker 2: two guys, because if they were, if somebody was willing
- 24:18Speaker 2: to give them a haul for Caleb Williams, would they
- 24:21Speaker 2: do that, because you know what, we can live with
- 24:24Speaker 2: Jade and Daniels, or we can live with Drake.
- 24:26Speaker 3: May you know, I don't think they would do that.
- 24:29Speaker 7: I mean, I I don't know. The more I've done
- 24:31Speaker 7: and I think I said this, but I just like
- 24:33Speaker 7: Jade and Daniels scares me more and more like and
- 24:35Speaker 7: there's just too many little things. And there's no question
- 24:36Speaker 7: he's talented, but it's it's just there's only one Lamar Jackson.
- 24:39Speaker 7: And I think that, you know, it's it's easy to
- 24:41Speaker 7: be like, well, if you kind of can put it
- 24:42Speaker 7: all together, it's like Lamar, and it's like only Lamar
- 24:45Speaker 7: has kind of combined all those elements.
- 24:47Speaker 2: But he's at this stage in his career. He's a
- 24:49Speaker 2: better thrower than Lamar.
- 24:50Speaker 7: Yeah, but still I think he's you know, he's he's
- 24:53Speaker 7: a little bit thinner, he's you know, light, He doesn't
- 24:56Speaker 7: I mean, it doesn't maybe have the technical issues that
- 24:58Speaker 7: you know, Lamar had to work through with his motion
- 25:00Speaker 7: and those kind of things, but I don't know, he
- 25:02Speaker 7: he scares me a little bit. And again it's you know,
- 25:05Speaker 7: it's just a third overall. I just don't think they
- 25:06Speaker 7: can afford to miss. I'd rather take brock Bauers.
- 25:09Speaker 2: And just pay.
- 25:10Speaker 7: We've got a stud tight end. It's it's not going
- 25:12Speaker 7: to be great, but you know what I mean, I'd
- 25:13Speaker 7: rather just hit on a potential superstar than you know,
- 25:16Speaker 7: roll the dice on a quarterback that you don't one
- 25:18Speaker 7: hundred percent believe in. And right now, really I believe
- 25:21Speaker 7: in May. I would believe in Williams. He's going to
- 25:22Speaker 7: be gone. But you know everybody else, I'm kind of like, eh,
- 25:26Speaker 7: like I want May, That's.
- 25:27Speaker 2: What That's what I want. Yeah, And the other thing
- 25:29Speaker 2: that we're talking about this morning is the pressure on
- 25:31Speaker 2: an organization to play a guy right out of the
- 25:33Speaker 2: gate when he's you know, a high pick. And the
- 25:36Speaker 2: only time there isn't pressure is when the team's pretty
- 25:39Speaker 2: good already, when you have a Aaron Rodgers already playing,
- 25:42Speaker 2: or an Alex Smith and you're playoff contender, then there's patience.
- 25:47Speaker 2: You know, we can wait, we're already in the playoffs,
- 25:50Speaker 2: but when you're not, and you could say, well, you
- 25:53Speaker 2: should be patient, it's easy to say. But when you
- 25:56Speaker 2: see people not showing up at games, you know, and
- 26:00Speaker 2: your sponsors getting a little bit antsy, it's hard to
- 26:05Speaker 2: not take that new toy out of the box and
- 26:08Speaker 2: put them out there to generate some excitement.
- 26:10Speaker 7: It's you know, I'm just interested to see a rookie
- 26:13Speaker 7: in comparison to what we saw from Mac and what
- 26:16Speaker 7: I saw from Stidham to his a rookie and this
- 26:17Speaker 7: will be, you know, the third rookie quarterback that kind
- 26:19Speaker 7: of just had a chance to see. That, to me,
- 26:22Speaker 7: will be really fascinating, especially with the pedigree that somebody
- 26:25Speaker 7: like May has compared to what macead.
- 26:27Speaker 2: Hey, easy to drink, easy to Oh this is Catch
- 26:30Speaker 2: twenty two. I don't have reads, It's still I'll read
- 26:33Speaker 2: it anyway. Easy to drink, easy to enjoy. Bud Light,

- 27:19Speaker 2: You may get in on the spot offer to join
- 27:22Speaker 2: the team. I think Mike, if you walked in, they'd
- 27:24Speaker 2: be like, Mike, join the park. Come right in, join
- 27:27Speaker 2: the team. Park way out there, man, you just.
- 27:33Speaker 3: Leave your car home and walk I.
- 27:36Speaker 7: Know, I know it's parked in Lot four, that's smart.
- 27:39Speaker 7: But motocross taking up a.
- 27:41Speaker 2: Lot by the movie theater.
- 27:44Speaker 3: So do you go in E two?
- 27:46Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 27:47Speaker 7: Actually I found out a little interesting now. Yesterday I
- 27:49Speaker 7: was going around. You know, they truck all this and
- 27:51Speaker 7: they truck all this dirt in and I was asking him, like,
- 27:53Speaker 7: do they travel with the dirt or you know, do
- 27:56Speaker 7: they buy the dirt? And we found out that they
- 27:58Speaker 7: actually store the dirt locally motocross like it's more less
- 28:01Speaker 7: expensive for them to just have a field somewhere nearby
- 28:04Speaker 7: and whenever they go to the city, hey, we got
- 28:06Speaker 7: to go pick up our dirt. So probably interesting to
- 28:08Speaker 7: know them about me.
- 28:08Speaker 2: But yeah, I would think there's a whole science behind it,
- 28:11Speaker 2: because you don't want to bring in dirt from other regions.
- 28:13Speaker 2: You might contaminate, Yeah, because the air would blow around
- 28:16Speaker 2: things and things. Seeds from other areas could come and
- 28:20Speaker 2: you could get invasive vegetation that isn't supposed.
- 28:23Speaker 1: To be here.
- 28:23Speaker 7: The Japanese not weed. You gotta watch out exactly. That's bad.
- 28:30Speaker 7: There's is grat just a little off season.
- 28:32Speaker 3: Good dirt talk.
- 28:34Speaker 2: People don't know what we're talking about. The motocross is
- 28:36Speaker 2: here followed by a monster jam. It's a lot of
- 28:38Speaker 2: dirt and yeah, it's tons and truck.
- 28:41Speaker 7: They both use the same dirt. Though, can you use
- 28:43Speaker 7: dirt on a motocross that you also use on a
- 28:46Speaker 7: why not dir?
- 28:47Speaker 2: Why not quality of the dirt? But it's It's amazing
- 28:51Speaker 2: how quickly they get that track ready.
- 28:54Speaker 7: Yeah, I know, it's a like dirt bikes at little
- 28:58Speaker 7: little dirt bike cruise around in the woodswear.
- 29:01Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 29:01Speaker 7: Never liked these guys with like the power band and stuff.
- 29:03Speaker 7: You know, it takes off. Never never that intense.
- 29:06Speaker 2: But yeah, okay, I digress. All right, all right, so
- 29:10Speaker 2: we've got the draft.
- 29:11Speaker 7: Oj Evan's talking to uh Taki Taki, Yeah.
- 29:15Speaker 3: And uh talky TALKI to Taki tak.
- 29:17Speaker 7: Yeah, tacky tacky number sixteen in your number sixteen your playbook.
- 29:21Speaker 7: I don't know about that one.
- 29:22Speaker 3: Yeah, these guys are just so pathetic.
- 29:23Speaker 2: They announced some of the numbers, right, do you want
- 29:25Speaker 2: to talk about that?
- 29:26Speaker 7: I'd love Gonzales Rezales went to zero?
- 29:28Speaker 6: Which other?
- 29:29Speaker 7: I mean they you know, put a picture up a
- 29:30Speaker 7: Gnzalt me and Paul we're talking. They already got a
- 29:32Speaker 7: picture up Gonzalez in the in the lobby. But number six,
- 29:34Speaker 7: so they got to they gotta ch planning some Mapu
- 29:38Speaker 7: though I think went to fifteen. He wasn't part of
- 29:40Speaker 7: the announcement though from us the other night. So yeah,
- 29:43Speaker 7: some number jiggering. But you know what I was thinking
- 29:45Speaker 7: about though, is hard, Like, what are quarterbacks going to
- 29:47Speaker 7: do because all these like defensive backs and line everybody's
- 29:50Speaker 7: taken zero to twenty, and I mean our quarterbacks allowed
- 29:54Speaker 7: to go above nineteen.
- 29:55Speaker 6: Like, I don't I think that's it.
- 29:57Speaker 7: Like quarterbacks are kind of route restricted. There's no number
- 30:00Speaker 7: is really.
- 30:00Speaker 2: Available, Paul, what's worse an ils or the number thing
- 30:06Speaker 2: that they changed all these players.
- 30:08Speaker 3: I don't have any problem with allowing people to wear
- 30:11Speaker 3: whatever number they want.
- 30:12Speaker 7: Okay, I mean you got like ten to thirteen.
- 30:15Speaker 3: The amount of attention it gets is, you know among
- 30:19Speaker 3: the media is kind of odd to me.
- 30:22Speaker 2: Yep, it's exciting, all right. Web radio at patries dot
- 30:25Speaker 2: com is the email address. Our phones are still down,
- 30:27Speaker 2: but we did get that piece of equipment, that critical
- 30:31Speaker 2: piece of equipment that Matt Morrell needed. So I don't
- 30:34Speaker 2: know how long it's gonna take, but at least we've
- 30:38Speaker 2: got this stuff in house that we needed to change
- 30:41Speaker 2: over our phone system to this new hole.
- 30:45Speaker 7: Man, we're gonna get some some hot takes when people
- 30:47Speaker 7: finally were able to call any gown.
- 30:49Speaker 2: I hope people remember us. Yeah, I mean, right now,
- 30:53Speaker 2: Eldrick is just driving around to talk to the tear
- 30:55Speaker 2: coming out of his eyes.
- 30:57Speaker 7: He's like just hearing us trash. Michael Pennoxy is like
- 31:00Speaker 7: getting so road raged out, Like I hope he's okay trashing?
- 31:04Speaker 6: No, no, but yeah he's fine.
- 31:07Speaker 2: Let's see Connor in Narragansett, Rhode Island, right, Sin. I
- 31:12Speaker 2: haven't seen really seen this mentioned, but I don't think
- 31:15Speaker 2: it's that bad an idea. If the Patriots do not
- 31:18Speaker 2: love any of the top quarterbacks, what do you think
- 31:20Speaker 2: about trading down to six with the Giants getting their
- 31:24Speaker 2: first two picks this year, their first next year in
- 31:27Speaker 2: Daniel Jones, See what you can get out of him
- 31:30Speaker 2: for a year and go from there.
- 31:32Speaker 7: No, do what at sicks? Well, you get all those picks, neighbors, you.
- 31:37Speaker 2: Get a tackle, you get neighbors.
- 31:40Speaker 3: So how many how many picks in addition to their
- 31:42Speaker 3: starting quarterback? Are you getting to move down three spots?
- 31:44Speaker 2: You're getting in another first this year and one next year?
- 31:49Speaker 7: What are their what is their second pick this year too?
- 31:51Speaker 7: He said the first two picks? Is that a first?
- 31:53Speaker 3: I was gonna say there was more than that. There
- 31:55Speaker 3: was more than that that he put in that email.
- 31:57Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't know.
- 31:58Speaker 7: I've seen enough of downly Jones and those joint practices'
- 32:02Speaker 7: that's just a waste of time.
- 32:04Speaker 2: Yeah, Dylan from Nashville rights in. I was wondering why
- 32:08Speaker 2: folks haven't been talking about Drake May's hand size nine
- 32:12Speaker 2: in an eighth, which is small for an NFL quarterback.
- 32:15Speaker 2: I've known it's important for quarterbacks to have bigger hands
- 32:17Speaker 2: when playing in places like New England. Should this be
- 32:20Speaker 2: a concern caveat mac Jones's hands are nine and three
- 32:24Speaker 2: quarters and he still sucks.
- 32:26Speaker 6: Yeah, well, I've got all that.
- 32:27Speaker 3: It's arm strength more than hand size.
- 32:29Speaker 7: But yeah, yes, J J. McCarthy's is only nine nine,
- 32:34Speaker 7: I got them all the hands right, nine even, Yeah,
- 32:36Speaker 7: Caleb Williams is nine and three quarters, Drake May is
- 32:38Speaker 7: nine and an eighth. Jade Jingis is nine and three eighths.
- 32:42Speaker 2: Small Connie's, but if you have strong, smaller hands, that
- 32:47Speaker 2: would make up for one of those grips.
- 32:48Speaker 3: To me, the thing about the bad weather is your
- 32:50Speaker 3: arm strength.
- 32:51Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 32:52Speaker 3: Does your path? Do your passes get affected by the
- 32:54Speaker 3: wind in the weather? And I don't really see that
- 32:57Speaker 3: as an issue with to be honest, McCarthy or May.
- 33:01Speaker 3: I think MacCarthy's arm is plenty strong enough.
- 33:04Speaker 7: Yeah, I think Kenny Pickett have really small hands.
- 33:06Speaker 3: That was Kenny Pickett wore gloves and stuff. Yeah he
- 33:08Speaker 3: had small hands. But again, Kenny throw like that's that's
- 33:14Speaker 3: the big thing to me.
- 33:16Speaker 2: Uh, Tyler writes in from Georgia. On Tuesday show, Mike
- 33:20Speaker 2: suggested the nickname may Day for Drake May should become
- 33:23Speaker 2: a Patriots bad understanding. It was part of an email game.
- 33:27Speaker 2: I nevertheless think that could end up being a harmful
- 33:29Speaker 2: nickname to the quarterback we're going down, whether justified or not.
- 33:33Speaker 2: May is already going to be compared to Brady and
- 33:36Speaker 2: everything he does. But to add that by forcing him
- 33:39Speaker 2: to live up to the legacy of Red Sox legend
- 33:41Speaker 2: Sam may Day Malone is just that.
- 33:43Speaker 3: That was one that was my first thought was alone.
- 33:47Speaker 3: But I figured I'm one hundred and ten years old.
- 33:49Speaker 3: Not everybody's going to be on that one.
- 33:50Speaker 2: And there's too obvious of a name.
- 33:51Speaker 7: There's going to be too many annoying nicknames for him.
- 33:54Speaker 7: You know, it's got to be May. You know, we'd
- 33:55Speaker 7: hear a lot of that stuff.
- 33:56Speaker 3: So yeah, I don't know why we don't have that
- 33:59Speaker 3: drop yet. I've been calling for for like three months.
- 34:01Speaker 3: But what are you gonna do?
- 34:02Speaker 7: Music rights issue?
- 34:03Speaker 2: Speaking of the Red Sox, the five nothing and they
- 34:07Speaker 2: lose the game.
- 34:07Speaker 7: Yeah, oh yeah. It's not going as well against here
- 34:10Speaker 7: on the East Coast.
- 34:11Speaker 3: As now, oh, when you're actually playing, when you're playing
- 34:13Speaker 3: a team that can, that can, that can actually play,
- 34:16Speaker 3: it's not as oh okay, yeah, it's too bad now.
- 34:20Speaker 3: Two and four against teams with a pulse there, five
- 34:23Speaker 3: and one against the.
- 34:24Speaker 2: Others Ford and Savannah with Cliff Kingsbury being the OC
- 34:28Speaker 2: in Washington, the acquisition of Marcus Mariota and the letting
- 34:32Speaker 2: go of Sam Howell. Can't we ascertain that Washington is
- 34:35Speaker 2: going after Jade and Daniels As you always say, don't
- 34:38Speaker 2: listen to what they say, but what they do.
- 34:41Speaker 3: I mean, I think they're taking Jayden and Daniels. But
- 34:44Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 34:45Speaker 2: Is he saying because Mariota is kind of a running
- 34:49Speaker 2: mobile quarterback? Yeah, yeah, I don't know what that has
- 34:53Speaker 2: I mean, is he any more mobile than Drake may Is.
- 34:56Speaker 7: I mean he's fairly mobile.
- 34:58Speaker 3: I mean he is, but like I think these guys
- 35:01Speaker 3: are all pretty mobile. I think McCarthy moves pretty well
- 35:04Speaker 3: as much as I am not sold on him. I
- 35:06Speaker 3: think he has good athleticism.
- 35:08Speaker 7: I mean Daniels has that.
- 35:09Speaker 3: Daniels is he's the best runner, like an actual runner.
- 35:13Speaker 3: I'm not talking just mobility running.
- 35:16Speaker 7: You know.
- 35:16Speaker 3: He had I think heran for over a thousand yards
- 35:18Speaker 3: last year.
- 35:18Speaker 7: Right, I'm sure we could find that out right here.
- 35:22Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean Daniels, He's right, the email is right,
- 35:25Speaker 3: he's the best runner of the crop.
- 35:27Speaker 2: Yep, yep, yeah yards.
- 35:31Speaker 3: So when we were talking about, you know, the ability
- 35:35Speaker 3: to you know, sit a guy and wait and all
- 35:40Speaker 3: that and how it's I wonder if anybody has done
- 35:45Speaker 3: any kind of studies on it, like I mean Bert had.
- 35:48Speaker 3: You know, again, we're feeding everything off of what we
- 35:51Speaker 3: heard from Bert this morning, and a lot of people
- 35:54Speaker 3: have talked about you know, last whatever fifteen twenty years.
- 35:59Speaker 3: They've been very few examples of guys that actually sat
- 36:02Speaker 3: for a whole year. I think there's only two since
- 36:05Speaker 3: two thousand and eight, really three because Mahomes played one game.
- 36:09Speaker 3: But the ones that played all, you know, the vast
- 36:13Speaker 3: majority of him.
- 36:13Speaker 7: Is it.
- 36:14Speaker 3: Anybody ever done a study as to why that they
- 36:16Speaker 3: failed if they failed, as opposed to just saying well
- 36:19Speaker 3: he got ruined. He played him too early. Like you know,
- 36:22Speaker 3: they talked about a story today about Green Bay. What
- 36:28Speaker 3: do you say? He was talking to Micha Lafleur about
- 36:30Speaker 3: it and if we had to play you know Jordan
- 36:33Speaker 3: Love when he was a rookie, he wasn't ready and
- 36:37Speaker 3: would have ruined him. Well, based on what now, if
- 36:41Speaker 3: you want to tell me, you wouldn't have had the success. Sure,
- 36:45Speaker 3: But like I would argue Patrick Mahomes, had he played
- 36:52Speaker 3: as a rookie the whole year, not only you would
- 36:57Speaker 3: have been more dangerous in the playoffs that that particularly
- 37:00Speaker 3: which you ended up getting knocked out. The next year,
- 37:04Speaker 3: which was his first full year as the starter, was
- 37:06Speaker 3: the famous twenty eighteen AFC Championship game. Maybe he doesn't
- 37:11Speaker 3: struggle for the first couple of series of the game,
- 37:13Speaker 3: and maybe he just lights it up the whole game
- 37:15Speaker 3: and they win the Super Bowl.
- 37:16Speaker 7: He accelerated the process.
- 37:17Speaker 3: Everybody likes to say like, see when you sit a guy.
- 37:20Speaker 3: He went like, well, if you're going to say that,
- 37:22Speaker 3: I'm going to say that it cost them a title
- 37:24Speaker 3: maybe two, because if he played right away, maybe he
- 37:27Speaker 3: would have won more. Like there's no way of knowing
- 37:31Speaker 3: I would like to see, like somebody really break down
- 37:35Speaker 3: what a guy was coming into the league and have
- 37:38Speaker 3: their coaches that, you know, the team's coaches where he was,
- 37:41Speaker 3: you know, mentally heading in. You know, we talked to
- 37:45Speaker 3: Brian Hoyer a little yet in the past, Yeah, Matt,
- 37:51Speaker 3: Matt Smith and I did the thing with Brian Hoyer
- 37:54Speaker 3: yesterday for Pats in the past. That's going to be
- 37:56Speaker 3: out soon. Some really interesting stories he told. He talked
- 38:00Speaker 3: about that rookie year for Mac Jones. There was a
- 38:04Speaker 3: time that he actually thought that they were telling Mac
- 38:07Speaker 3: Jones everything ahead of time, like this is what this
- 38:11Speaker 3: is what you're going to do in practice, this is
- 38:12Speaker 3: what the this is what the reads are going to
- 38:14Speaker 3: be in it. Like that's how good he was, Like mentally,
- 38:18Speaker 3: that's how sharp he was. Mentally, Mac was, Yeah, Okay,
- 38:23Speaker 3: he got ruined? Was he not ready?
- 38:25Speaker 2: Well? I think one of the I was thinking about
- 38:27Speaker 2: that same thing, and I think when the risk of
- 38:33Speaker 2: playing somebody too early is when you don't have good protection,
- 38:38Speaker 2: when you just can't run a play because you've constantly underseen.
- 38:42Speaker 3: But if you have an end, how do you know? Well,
- 38:44Speaker 3: but that the guy was ruined as opposed to not
- 38:46Speaker 3: good enough.
- 38:47Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't know, but like, if you're not giving
- 38:49Speaker 2: him a chance from you know, then that if I
- 38:52Speaker 2: don't think my line is right, I sit the guy.
- 38:54Speaker 2: But if I think my line is right, I think
- 38:57Speaker 2: this is like to Paul's point, there may be less
- 39:01Speaker 2: risk than people think by starting a guy.
- 39:03Speaker 3: I also think if you having a guy understand, like
- 39:07Speaker 3: Tom Brady figured out. Do you remember how much Tom
- 39:09Speaker 3: Brady got sacked the first year he played comparatively to
- 39:12Speaker 3: the rest of his career.
- 39:13Speaker 2: Well, but I remember parcels like going to the line
- 39:18Speaker 2: and saying, I don't care what you have to do,
- 39:21Speaker 2: keep this guy on his feet. I mean like he
- 39:24Speaker 2: was adamant.
- 39:25Speaker 3: I know, but this was Brady when Belichick was here,
- 39:27Speaker 3: so it was a different coach.
- 39:29Speaker 2: And I thought you were talking BLEDSOE did I say,
- 39:32Speaker 2: I thought you? I'm sorry, I thought you.
- 39:34Speaker 3: How much Brady got sacked? Lets never got sacked early.
- 39:38Speaker 3: That's when I'm Brady got sacked a ton in two
- 39:40Speaker 3: thousand and one comparatively to his rest the rest of
- 39:42Speaker 3: his career. It was a very high total for him.
- 39:45Speaker 3: And I think what he what he ended up learning
- 39:48Speaker 3: from it was how to slide protections, how to understand
- 39:51Speaker 3: where the pressure was coming pre snap, and he turned
- 39:54Speaker 3: into like the greatest ever. Now he's a savant. I'm
- 39:57Speaker 3: not comparing everybody anybody else to him, but I think
- 40:01Speaker 3: there's something to be said for learning under the gun.
- 40:06Speaker 3: Even if you don't have a good, good offensive line,
- 40:08Speaker 3: there's some benefit that you can get from that.
- 40:11Speaker 2: Now every points to Carr, but maybe David Carr wasn't
- 40:15Speaker 2: that good to begin with.
- 40:16Speaker 3: Well, that's my point, and I'd like to have somebody,
- 40:20Speaker 3: not like a media guy, like I want people in
- 40:24Speaker 3: the NFL that were involved in these coaching staffs, various
- 40:28Speaker 3: guys like Johnny Manziel. To me, is not a guy
- 40:30Speaker 3: who got ruined. Johnny Manzel, it's pretty obvious why he
- 40:32Speaker 3: didn't work, right, Uh, what's JaMarcus Russell. It's pretty obvious
- 40:38Speaker 3: why he didn't work. Like I don't think he got
- 40:40Speaker 3: ruined because he played too quick, but someone who had
- 40:43Speaker 3: everything sort of in place, they gave him the keys,
- 40:47Speaker 3: Like tell me why Bryce Young didn't work last year?
- 40:50Speaker 3: And if he's never going to be anything in his career,
- 40:52Speaker 3: I want to hear from Frank Reich where he was
- 40:55Speaker 3: mentally what he thinks. Potentially he was damaged. You know,
- 41:00Speaker 3: did he lose his confidence, Zach Wilson. Did he lose
- 41:02Speaker 3: his confidence as a result of playing too soon? You know,
- 41:06Speaker 3: I would like a real good analysis of that. Or
- 41:09Speaker 3: do you just think the guy was kind of wild
- 41:11Speaker 3: and rough around the edges and he didn't have any
- 41:14Speaker 3: success and it's spiraled and he was never going to
- 41:16Speaker 3: have any success, whether he waited the year, two years
- 41:18Speaker 3: or whatever.
- 41:19Speaker 7: I just I just think we throw around quarterbacks getting
- 41:21Speaker 7: ruined way too too liberally. I just I don't think
- 41:24Speaker 7: it really happens.
- 41:25Speaker 6: I just well, I mean.
- 41:27Speaker 2: Bill Walsh was the famous guy who wrote the book
- 41:30Speaker 2: on it, and he he said that all quarterbacks should
- 41:33Speaker 2: wait at least two years before they play. Time for that, Yeah,
- 41:38Speaker 2: well that's the thing.
- 41:39Speaker 7: But that was what he felt like, you know, Carson Wentz,
- 41:43Speaker 7: he like, did he get ruined or was he always
- 41:45Speaker 7: not good?
- 41:46Speaker 6: Baker Mayfield?
- 41:46Speaker 9: Was he.
- 41:48Speaker 3: Wentz? I think got ruined by his broken leg? Right
- 41:51Speaker 3: like that was that was his second year. He was
- 41:53Speaker 3: okay as a rookie. His second year he was on
- 41:55Speaker 3: the way to being an MVP. He broke his leg.
- 41:56Speaker 3: I think that's I think he lost some athleticism as
- 41:59Speaker 3: a result of But your point is is valid, Like
- 42:03Speaker 3: what constitutes playing too soon equals ruining him? And I'd
- 42:07Speaker 3: like to have someone really do a good study on that. Yeah,
- 42:09Speaker 3: And I'm not telling you I have the answer.
- 42:11Speaker 2: I know, I know idea.
- 42:12Speaker 7: I don't either. I just I just kind of push
- 42:14Speaker 7: back on the how liberally it gets thrown around that
- 42:16Speaker 7: he was ruined. And like even with Mac, like, I
- 42:18Speaker 7: think there's a certain degree of when rookie quarterbacks come in,
- 42:21Speaker 7: they don't know what they don't know, and to your point, Paul,
- 42:23Speaker 7: like they're being told what to do and how it's
- 42:25Speaker 7: going to go. But as their career progresses and the
- 42:27Speaker 7: team needs more for them, certain guys just aren't able
- 42:30Speaker 7: to continue that, Like, they aren't able to organically evolve
- 42:33Speaker 7: and become that guy themselves.
- 42:34Speaker 6: They're like, you know what I mean?
- 42:35Speaker 2: So, like when you say ruined, that means you're saying
- 42:38Speaker 2: the guy had ability, but you ruined it. Okay, So
- 42:41Speaker 2: there's three ways that you ruin a guy. He gets
- 42:44Speaker 2: injured and.
- 42:45Speaker 7: Right, and that's ruined. It's just an injury, that's you
- 42:47Speaker 7: know what I mean. Like, I don't, I don't know,
- 42:49Speaker 7: I just that don't see the correlation with ruined injuries happen.
- 42:51Speaker 2: Like yeah, Then the other one is like he was
- 42:54Speaker 2: so bad he just never got a second chance, and
- 42:56Speaker 2: so you ruined him, you know, But who doesn't get
- 43:00Speaker 2: that second chance? Like if even Zach Wilson got bench
- 43:03Speaker 2: and then he brought back, you're gonna get another chance. Ma,
- 43:05Speaker 2: that's probably gonna get another chance. So like that's not
- 43:08Speaker 2: ruining him, you know. So then the third way is
- 43:10Speaker 2: that he was under so much theress that mentally he
- 43:13Speaker 2: became scrambled outs and he never recovered, and that if
- 43:15Speaker 2: that's the case, then he never was probably that good
- 43:17Speaker 2: to begin with.
- 43:18Speaker 3: But I could make an argument that in that particular case,
- 43:21Speaker 3: you probably didn't do him any favors by playing him
- 43:23Speaker 3: too soon.
- 43:23Speaker 2: No, absolutely, Yeah, But like if he doesn't have the
- 43:26Speaker 2: mental wherewithal to recover from that, okay, put him on
- 43:29Speaker 2: the bench.
- 43:29Speaker 3: But maybe he didn't when he was twenty one or
- 43:32Speaker 3: twenty two, but he might have when he was twenty
- 43:34Speaker 3: three or twenty four, right, I don't know.
- 43:35Speaker 7: Yeah, but that's yeah, that's the hard thing, Paul, is
- 43:37Speaker 7: just like where's the line of like we.
- 43:40Speaker 3: Have these things that become fact. Yeah, and again I'm
- 43:43Speaker 3: not telling you that quarterbacks don't get ruined by playing
- 43:45Speaker 3: too early. I think some of them do. But I
- 43:47Speaker 3: just would like to have someone who understands this as
- 43:50Speaker 3: opposed to just oh yeah, they ruined Mac Jones.
- 43:53Speaker 7: I mean, I would just say any quarterback who was
- 43:55Speaker 7: quote unquote ruined was not ever going to be an
- 43:58Speaker 7: elite quarter.
- 43:58Speaker 3: You know, one of the two guys that didn't play
- 44:01Speaker 3: right away that in that that it was Jake Locker.
- 44:07Speaker 3: So he didn't play right away? And how do you
- 44:09Speaker 3: pan out him?
- 44:10Speaker 1: That ruined him?
- 44:11Speaker 3: That was what I guess, he got ruined by playing.
- 44:14Speaker 2: But what about like you know, Ryan Leaf for example,
- 44:17Speaker 2: you know, like why was it Jack Jake Locker? Who
- 44:20Speaker 2: was Jake Jake Locker?
- 44:23Speaker 3: No, I was trying to think of Ricker.
- 44:27Speaker 2: Think it was Ryan Leaf. It's hard to make the
- 44:29Speaker 2: case that he got ruined.
- 44:31Speaker 7: Had a lot of issues, I mean himself, you know, Yeah,
- 44:35Speaker 7: I mean it's I don't know. I I really would
- 44:37Speaker 7: love to just see one great example of this quarterback
- 44:41Speaker 7: was ruined. He would have been great, but because his
- 44:45Speaker 7: protection or he didn't have the right wide receivers. Like
- 44:47Speaker 7: I just don't buy all that stuff like if you're good, you're.
- 44:50Speaker 6: Gonna be good no matter what.
- 44:51Speaker 7: And you know, there's certain times when a guy gets
- 44:53Speaker 7: an opportunity and you know, like Brady would always tal
- 44:55Speaker 7: about it, I knew my opportunity was come, and they
- 44:57Speaker 7: just shrink at the moment and they don't take advantage
- 45:00Speaker 7: of it, and maybe that moment passes them by never
- 45:02Speaker 7: to happen again. But I just think if you're gonna
- 45:04Speaker 7: be a great quarterback in this league, you're gonna be
- 45:06Speaker 7: You're gonna figure out a way to show it and
- 45:08Speaker 7: to and to eventually get there. And if you're not,
- 45:10Speaker 7: because let's face it, there's only a handful of guys
- 45:12Speaker 7: that have ever been that good, you're not gonna be
- 45:14Speaker 7: able to put it all together.
- 45:15Speaker 3: I kind of think that's what it comes down to,
- 45:17Speaker 3: is there's a reason why there are not a ton
- 45:20Speaker 3: of great quarterbacks in the NFL because it's really hard.
- 45:23Speaker 7: Right right, Not just because it's like there's just this
- 45:26Speaker 7: like laundry list of guys like Mac Jones, I mean,
- 45:28Speaker 7: would have been, you know, would have been winning super
- 45:29Speaker 7: Bowls with San Francisco if the Patriots had just gotten
- 45:32Speaker 7: him a left tackle and an elite receiver like and
- 45:34Speaker 7: I do.
- 45:34Speaker 3: Think there's a lot of good quarterbacks in football. I
- 45:36Speaker 3: just don't think there're a lot of great.
- 45:37Speaker 7: Ones right right, and at least the great ones if
- 45:39Speaker 7: they were deterred by an injury or a year where
- 45:43Speaker 7: like Brady didn't have the didn't have elite weapons, kind
- 45:46Speaker 7: of had guys who had struggled to get open or
- 45:48Speaker 7: had suspect protection, like, they still.
- 45:51Speaker 3: Show you ways to do it, probably a really in depth,
- 45:54Speaker 3: detailed analytical look like pretty easy to figure, like Fred's point.
- 45:59Speaker 3: Offensive line, you know what kind of you know what
- 46:01Speaker 3: kind of offensive line did these guys have? Receiving cores? Defenses?
- 46:07Speaker 3: How many times did the game situation get out of
- 46:09Speaker 3: hand and put too much on the quarterback?
- 46:11Speaker 6: Right, that's a good one.
- 46:14Speaker 7: He was ruined by his defense was so bad that, yeah,
- 46:16Speaker 7: he got ruined.
- 46:17Speaker 2: It's really not fair and impossible to paint with a
- 46:19Speaker 2: broad brush. Well, this is this is when a guy
- 46:22Speaker 2: should start right away, and this is when he shouldn't.
- 46:24Speaker 2: It's every situation is different, you know.
- 46:27Speaker 7: I mean, I just I think the baseline I would
- 46:30Speaker 7: stick to is that. I mean, I don't I barely
- 46:33Speaker 7: think you can sit a year. I mean, I give
- 46:34Speaker 7: you half the season. I think at most in my
- 46:37Speaker 7: mind that you just have to start the clock. And
- 46:39Speaker 7: if he's not gonna be able to play, it's not
- 46:40Speaker 7: going to really matter unless I mean, like you said,
- 46:42Speaker 7: unless the team is a disaster.
- 46:44Speaker 2: I mean I I was covering the Patriots back when
- 46:47Speaker 2: Bledsoe was drafted, and there was talk do you play
- 46:51Speaker 2: him right away? And there were some people saying, oh,
- 46:53Speaker 2: you know, you probably shouldn't, but they did. And that
- 46:55Speaker 2: was Parcels And he's been around a long time, you know.
- 46:59Speaker 3: And you can say anything you want about Drew, but
- 47:01Speaker 3: you can't say he got ruined by playing too soon.
- 47:03Speaker 2: No, no, no, all right, we're gonna take a break.

- 48:37Speaker 7: What's up, everybody, Let's listen to a snippet of the
- 48:39Speaker 7: latest episode of the Patriots Draft Countdown podcast presented by
- 48:42Speaker 7: Bud Light. All Right, folks, it's maybe the episode you've
- 48:46Speaker 7: been waiting for. We still got quarterbacks to do, but
- 48:48Speaker 7: today we're going to rifle through running backs, tight ends,
- 48:51Speaker 7: and yes, wide receivers, all positions in need for the Patriots.
- 48:54Speaker 7: Maybe tight ends a little bit less so after signing
- 48:56Speaker 7: Austin Hooper and Hendra Henry there at that position. But
- 48:59Speaker 7: let's start off with running back guys in this position.
- 49:02Speaker 7: Start with you, Evan that you know, it's kind of
- 49:03Speaker 7: un devalued a little bit, and I don't think there's
- 49:05Speaker 7: really a high end, you know, number one kind of guy.
- 49:08Speaker 6: But there are a number of later round guys.
- 49:09Speaker 7: Why don't you give us those some of the top
- 49:11Speaker 7: round guys that maybe maybe maybe a little bit too
- 49:13Speaker 7: soon for the Patriots.
- 49:14Speaker 4: Yeah, so this is not a particularly strong running back
- 49:17Speaker 4: class at the top. Like you said, there's no Christian McCaffrey,
- 49:20Speaker 4: there's no Saquon Barkley. There's not even a Jamior Gibbs
- 49:23Speaker 4: in this class. This is our Bijeon or one of
- 49:25Speaker 4: those guys. This is a Day two and three running
- 49:28Speaker 4: back class. I think the number one running back consensus
- 49:31Speaker 4: for the most part is Blake Korum from Michigan. I
- 49:34Speaker 4: also hear a lot of Benson from Florida State as well.
- 49:36Speaker 4: He's up there too. But those two guys that are
- 49:38Speaker 4: really the start, I would say probably in the third round.
- 49:43Speaker 4: Maybe maybe one of those guys sneaks into the back
- 49:45Speaker 4: of the second round just because somebody wants to jump
- 49:47Speaker 4: ahead and pick one earlier than everybody else will. But
- 49:50Speaker 4: at some point in this draft there'll be a run
- 49:53Speaker 4: of a run of running backs that will all come
- 49:56Speaker 4: off the board, and those guys can all be a
- 50:00Speaker 4: part of a committee and be, you know, useful players
- 50:03Speaker 4: at the NFL level. They're not again, they're not gonna
- 50:05Speaker 4: be Bell Cows. They're not going to be that stud
- 50:08Speaker 4: running back. But if you're talking about getting a tag
- 50:11Speaker 4: partner for Ramandre Stevenson, you know those exist in this
- 50:14Speaker 4: draft in droves. Like there's a lot of those guys,
- 50:16Speaker 4: but none of them really are looked at as like
- 50:18Speaker 4: difference makers or game changers.
- 50:20Speaker 6: What do you got, PAULI, and any of these guys
- 50:22Speaker 6: strike your fans out?
- 50:23Speaker 3: I mean, Obviously I like Korum a lot, but I
- 50:25Speaker 3: agree with Evan in terms of, you know, where does
- 50:28Speaker 3: it make sense for the Patriots. I also like Jonathan
- 50:31Speaker 3: Brooks a little bit, although kind of one year of production,
- 50:34Speaker 3: so maybe some question marks there. There were guys that
- 50:37Speaker 3: were lead backs, there were guys that you know that
- 50:39Speaker 3: certainly carried the load. But I think, you know, like
- 50:41Speaker 3: Koram's a guy that you look at him, you're like, oh,
- 50:43Speaker 3: he must be a passing back because he's not very big,
- 50:46Speaker 3: but he is that kind of a league guy. And
- 50:48Speaker 3: I like the way evn't talked about it. A tag
- 50:50Speaker 3: team guy for ramondre Stevenson. I just don't think you
- 50:54Speaker 3: can afford to do it. I think you're going to
- 50:56Speaker 3: be looking at Day three guys and I'm not even
- 51:00Speaker 3: sure that you have enough room for that. I think
- 51:02Speaker 3: that that's it's a spot like you can't fill everything
- 51:04Speaker 3: in one draft, and I'm not sure running back meets
- 51:07Speaker 3: the threshold here. There's some guys that can play, and
- 51:11Speaker 3: I would add, you know Benson as well with Florida
- 51:13Speaker 3: State that Evan mentioned. I do like some of these players.
- 51:16Speaker 3: I think there's some skill, not enough really for the
- 51:18Speaker 3: Patriots to think about him in day two.
- 51:20Speaker 7: Yeah, so as we get into day two, day three,
- 51:22Speaker 7: tis any of those guys.
- 51:24Speaker 10: I think Korum is a day two, day three guy.
- 51:26Speaker 10: He kind of reminds me of Philip Lindsay, just very downhill.
- 51:28Speaker 10: Also catch the ball. That's one of the comps over there.
- 51:31Speaker 2: Philip Lindsay. You know, yeah, no made a Pro Bowl.
- 51:35Speaker 2: Yeah no.
- 51:35Speaker 10: We fifty eight rushing touchdown or touchdowns at Michigan. You
- 51:38Speaker 10: can't ignore that. Can do a bit of everything. So
- 51:40Speaker 10: that's kind of the sweet spot where I'd take a
- 51:42Speaker 10: running back. Other than that, if you're the Patriots, you're
- 51:44Speaker 10: looking six seventh round hopefully and maybe undrafted free agents.
- 51:47Speaker 7: We were into Bucky Irving. We were at the combine.
- 51:50Speaker 7: We were talking Bucky Irving and then he kind of
- 51:53Speaker 7: had a terrible combine. But like his you know, he
- 51:56Speaker 7: looked explosive in the games, but we.
- 51:58Speaker 6: Got there in the testing numbers not so much.
- 52:00Speaker 4: Yeah, So Bucky Irving's an interesting guy. And you know
- 52:03Speaker 4: some some of these other guys too, like Tyrone Tracy
- 52:06Speaker 4: Junior from Purdue or Dylan Lobby, the local kid from
- 52:08Speaker 4: you and h those guys are all interesting. I just
- 52:10Speaker 4: feel like when they signed Antonio Gibson, those guys are
- 52:14Speaker 4: more of those sub package pass catching backs. Probably not
- 52:17Speaker 4: what they're looking for now. They're probably looking for somebody
- 52:20Speaker 4: in that early down role, Remandre Damien Harris, like that
- 52:24Speaker 4: sort of running back, which there are some options to.
- 52:27Speaker 4: My My favorite running back of this entire class is
- 52:29Speaker 4: Marshon Lloyd from USC. I just think that he's got
- 52:32Speaker 4: the ability to run between the tackles and catch the
- 52:35Speaker 4: ball out of the back the great Senior Bowl week,
- 52:37Speaker 4: but he's also like a vertical threat in the passing
- 52:39Speaker 4: game too. Seems you know, run the run, the wheel route,
- 52:42Speaker 4: you know that sort of thing. Yeah, yeah, just uh,
- 52:46Speaker 4: definitely one of those backs that can do a bit
- 52:48Speaker 4: of everything. And the way that he runs does remind
- 52:50Speaker 4: me a little bit of Remondre where he's a bigger back,
- 52:53Speaker 4: but he has that ability to move laterally and make
- 52:56Speaker 4: guys miss and find the right holes and things like that.
- 52:59Speaker 4: So he's probably in an early day three guy. I
- 53:01Speaker 4: would say, maybe end of round three, early round four,
- 53:05Speaker 4: but you know that's probably where I started even thinking.
- 53:07Speaker 4: Is that fourth round pick. I've kind of pegged it
- 53:10Speaker 4: as a tight end spot, but maybe they think of
- 53:12Speaker 4: it as more of a running back spot.
- 53:14Speaker 7: Yeah, Braylen Allen from Wisconsin was once another one.
- 53:16Speaker 6: Giant dude. I mean he's like fun to watch.
- 53:18Speaker 7: Maybe not not there Henry, but like kind of similar size.
- 53:21Speaker 10: I got a late round guy. I love the NFL bloodlines, Paul.
- 53:23Speaker 10: We talked about this in the last episode. But Frank
- 53:26Speaker 10: Gore Junior, all right, guy, I love Frank Gord Junior
- 53:29Speaker 10: can handle the workload, and that's like, you know, potential
- 53:32Speaker 10: six seventh round guy.
- 53:33Speaker 2: Maybe udfa so so.
- 53:34Speaker 3: Will Shipley's a guy that I've always kind of watched
- 53:37Speaker 3: at Clemson. Pretty productive. I get a little worried about
- 53:40Speaker 3: guys that have that much wear and tear before they
- 53:43Speaker 3: even get into the league. But pretty productive guy. I
- 53:46Speaker 3: agree again with with both Tis and Evan. I don't
- 53:49Speaker 3: think there's that star power in this group. So it's
- 53:53Speaker 3: gonna be your flavor, your particular liking. You're gonna take
- 53:57Speaker 3: someone in round five or something, and you're gonna hope
- 54:00Speaker 3: that maybe he's better than Kevin Harris and maybe he
- 54:02Speaker 3: can earn a roster spot. Will Shipley's a guy I
- 54:05Speaker 3: thought that had some versatility, you know, a lot of
- 54:08Speaker 3: production in the acc I know people don't think of
- 54:11Speaker 3: that as as strong as his other conferences, but I
- 54:14Speaker 3: think he has some ability to in Irving your guy,
- 54:17Speaker 3: because you guys had me on Bucky Irving too, so
- 54:19Speaker 3: I watched him, man, you know, and Evans again right
- 54:23Speaker 3: about Gibson probably mitigates that need, but he struggles in
- 54:27Speaker 3: pass protection. I don't think that's he's smaller. That that
- 54:30Speaker 3: was not a third down back that you necessarily clamor.
- 54:33Speaker 4: To, Yeah, he's a smaller guy. I think the hope
- 54:36Speaker 4: was was that he does show a lot of explosiveness
- 54:38Speaker 4: on tape, and that did not translate to the combine. Now,
- 54:42Speaker 4: historically speaking running backs, it's not a big combine position
- 54:45Speaker 4: because so much of it is how you carry the
- 54:47Speaker 4: ball in pads and how you break tackles and stuff
- 54:50Speaker 4: like that. So it's not really a big combine position.
- 54:52Speaker 4: But Bucky Irving's one of those guys. I think his
- 54:55Speaker 4: RIS was like one point nine out of ten or
- 54:57Speaker 4: like it was. It was a bomb, you know, it
- 54:59Speaker 4: was a very, very a bad combine.
- 55:02Speaker 7: I like you, So let's let's then let's move on
- 55:05Speaker 7: to tight ends. And I mean, I'd say it's kind
- 55:07Speaker 7: of a similar class maybe, I mean you have Jatavian
- 55:08Speaker 7: Sanders probably at the top, but otherwise you're really looking
- 55:12Speaker 7: at like day.
- 55:12Speaker 6: Two, ry like, I just.
- 55:18Speaker 2: You guys, do you know what?
- 55:19Speaker 6: You know what the problem with brock Bowers is?
- 55:21Speaker 3: I just I You're limited because I'm like, I'm like.
- 55:22Speaker 7: I can't even think about him, don't even get excited
- 55:24Speaker 7: about him, because there's plenty of reasons obviously to get
- 55:27Speaker 7: excited about brock Bowers.
- 55:28Speaker 6: So wanted to give us a little brock Bowers.
- 55:30Speaker 2: I mean, he's been doing it for a while. Is
- 55:31Speaker 2: he a senior junior?
- 55:32Speaker 7: Senior junior junior?
- 55:34Speaker 10: He did in the in the one of the finals
- 55:36Speaker 10: he went off, So I wasn't really focusing too much
- 55:38Speaker 10: on the top guys because as a fan, I'm a
- 55:40Speaker 10: little worried if they pick a tight end.
- 55:41Speaker 7: Above the fourth.
- 55:42Speaker 10: So I'll go down to some of the lower round guys.
- 55:45Speaker 10: We we talked with tonat and at the combine. But
- 55:49Speaker 10: also I said it in the intro episode, Dallon Hulker
- 55:51Speaker 10: from Colorado State just one of those receiving tight ends.
- 55:54Speaker 10: He can break loose, good hands, has some speed for
- 55:56Speaker 10: being a big guy. So that's one of the guys
- 55:58Speaker 10: i'd like to see the pass, maybe snag late the dress.
- 56:00Speaker 7: So that's all over the place, right Like everybody's got it.
- 56:02Speaker 7: Phil Perry, I mean, he just seems like he's kind
- 56:05Speaker 7: of that sweet spot of like a fourth.
- 56:06Speaker 6: Round kind of guy.
- 56:07Speaker 7: Really athletic, you know, maybe needs to you know, work
- 56:10Speaker 7: on blocking, and who doesn't really at this level.
- 56:12Speaker 3: But he's a favorite through I got a red flag
- 56:15Speaker 3: on him. He's a tight end out of Iowa who
- 56:17Speaker 3: went to Kansas State at Iowa? What was wrong with
- 56:20Speaker 3: and he played the tight end factory? Why didn't he
- 56:24Speaker 3: go there?
- 56:25Speaker 4: Well, there's a guy named Eric All who's also in
- 56:28Speaker 4: this class who plays at Iowa. But I'm just gonna
- 56:30Speaker 4: come out and say it. This tight end class stinks.
- 56:33Speaker 4: It's awful. Okay, I'm just gonna be honest with you,
- 56:37Speaker 4: especially coming off of the tight end class last year
- 56:39Speaker 4: and how stacked that group was. This group is Brock
- 56:42Speaker 4: Bowers gap, Jitavian Sanders gap. People that might make an
- 56:47Speaker 4: NFL roster, but that's this class.
- 56:50Speaker 2: Let's have some of the best NFL tight ends are
- 56:52Speaker 2: drafted in the mid round.
- 56:53Speaker 4: So who knows, it's crap teas with that being said
- 56:59Speaker 4: Cad Stover. So, Cad Stover is a converted defensive end,
- 57:02Speaker 4: which I like rush right, because he's got he's got
- 57:05Speaker 4: some some nastiness to him, you know, because he does
- 57:08Speaker 4: come from that defensive background. So if you want a
- 57:11Speaker 4: guy that can put his hand in the dirt and
- 57:12Speaker 4: block some people, can Stover can do it. He's just
- 57:15Speaker 4: not a dynamic receiver.
- 57:16Speaker 3: Right, and he'll take some time. And the fact that
- 57:18Speaker 3: you have Henry and Hooper, two veterans in front of him,
- 57:20Speaker 3: would give you some time. But again, this is the
- 57:23Speaker 3: day three guy. This is not You're just not in
- 57:25Speaker 3: a position where it's not a luxury. That'd be a
- 57:28Speaker 3: luxury pick.
- 57:29Speaker 9: When someone accidentally threw away the school play costumes, oh no,
- 57:34Speaker 9: replacements were shipped with FedEx and with picture proof of delivery,
- 57:38Speaker 9: everyone could focus on the perfect opening night FedEx where
- 57:42Speaker 9: now it's next for residential delivery only.
- 57:46Speaker 7: And now great moments in.
- 57:51Speaker 3: History. Well, I have to leave you, gents. You're going
- 57:54Speaker 3: tad early to do some of my television responsibilities.
- 57:57Speaker 2: Is that why you get the shiny shirt on? Today?
- 57:59Speaker 3: I am going going clubbing.
- 58:00Speaker 7: Yeah, be sure to turn into Paul Parillo today.
- 58:04Speaker 3: Probably not a great one to listen now, to be
- 58:06Speaker 3: sure not to turn It'll be it'd be like PAULI
- 58:08Speaker 3: the dancing Bear, trying to keep yourself on an alligation.
- 58:11Speaker 2: We'll be listening.
- 58:12Speaker 3: This will be a tough one. This is one that
- 58:13Speaker 3: I always fear when I came in on Thursday morning
- 58:16Speaker 3: that Fred's waiting for me. Jonathan.
- 58:21Speaker 2: We got to walk down to the west wind.
- 58:22Speaker 3: Jonathan wants to talk to you, so like that's always
- 58:24Speaker 3: my fear. I remember I saw Fred at about two
- 58:27Speaker 3: o'clock last Thursday. I was like, anybody say anything. He goes,
- 58:30Speaker 3: what do you mean? I go, you know about me?
- 58:32Speaker 3: He goes about what I go like being on the radio. No,
- 58:34Speaker 3: I go, sounds good. Let's let's move it along.
- 58:37Speaker 4: You gotta be like you gotta be like the the
- 58:38Speaker 4: guys on cutdown Day when they try to avoid the guy.
- 58:41Speaker 2: But what's that shirt? Paul? Can I make one suggestion?
- 58:44Speaker 2: Unbutton one button? Put on a coke spoon. I think
- 58:47Speaker 2: you'll be right there to Maike.
- 58:49Speaker 3: Sure it for that taking fashion advice from on this
- 58:53Speaker 3: guy from the stained police.
- 58:54Speaker 1: That's another great moment from.
- 58:58Speaker 2: All right back here and unfiltered. No phone number yet,
- 59:02Speaker 2: but web Radio at Patriots dot com is the email address.
- 59:06Speaker 2: And uh, guess what the beer is bud Light. It's

- 59:44Speaker 2: Set, party ready dining sign an set or was it
- 59:47Speaker 2: so when you say you mean a dining table and chairs, I.
- 59:50Speaker 7: Need like I want like a nice like storage. You
- 59:52Speaker 7: know it's got like built in transssion. He's got a
- 59:55Speaker 7: little like a wild you know, a little wine fridge
- 59:57Speaker 7: maybe and you know, like just a whole thing like
- 1:00:00Speaker 7: to party.
- 1:00:01Speaker 3: Well for beers to wait a minute, And I'm thinking
- 1:00:03Speaker 3: to myself, I can help them like a.
- 1:00:05Speaker 11: Party thing or well that's what I was. I don't
- 1:00:07Speaker 11: know what the read was it said it said party
- 1:00:09Speaker 11: ready shelf, party ready, dining cabinet, cabinet. Okay, that's yeah,
- 1:00:15Speaker 11: that's what I'm you know, party ready.
- 1:00:16Speaker 6: Like I need to have some for the wine glasses.
- 1:00:21Speaker 2: Yeah, that's I got to go to bobs, I guess
- 1:00:23Speaker 2: little fridge.
- 1:00:24Speaker 7: Yeah, it's a dream.
- 1:00:25Speaker 2: So are you planning on doing some entertaining?
- 1:00:28Speaker 7: No, would love to entertain, but I just at some
- 1:00:30Speaker 7: point like to redo my kitchen. That's a dream of ours.
- 1:00:32Speaker 7: So like just really get our kitchen, like, you know,
- 1:00:35Speaker 7: great and.
- 1:00:35Speaker 2: Well somebody here that redid their kitchen that can probably help.
- 1:00:39Speaker 2: Really he'll show you everything.
- 1:00:41Speaker 3: Yeah, avoided that one, thank goodness.
- 1:00:45Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, so all right, web radio at pages dot com.
- 1:00:49Speaker 2: Let's get back to the emails. This is from Kevin
- 1:00:53Speaker 2: in Charleston, South Carolina.
- 1:00:56Speaker 3: Down there.
- 1:00:57Speaker 2: Yeah, they just had a tennis tournament down there and
- 1:00:59Speaker 2: I was watching it and some of the commercials were
- 1:01:02Speaker 2: advertising the benefits of living in Charleston, South Carolina.
- 1:01:05Speaker 3: I'm like, no, it's a nice place.
- 1:01:08Speaker 2: Humidity, it doesn't look too bad.
- 1:01:10Speaker 3: Nice, very nice.
- 1:01:11Speaker 7: Yeah, probably cost Yeah Carolina.
- 1:01:15Speaker 2: He's a loyal podcast of the show since twenty thirteen.
- 1:01:18Speaker 2: First time writing in almost steered my car into oncoming
- 1:01:22Speaker 2: traffic when Fred started defending Bill's drafting at the start
- 1:01:26Speaker 2: of the show the last last show. I guess that
- 1:01:30Speaker 2: Evan and Paul did great restoring sanity in the room.
- 1:01:33Speaker 2: But I still don't think we talk enough about the
- 1:01:35Speaker 2: fact that Bill overdrafts a guard in the first round
- 1:01:38Speaker 2: when tackle is of a bigger need and more in
- 1:01:41Speaker 2: a more important position. And then the following draft still
- 1:01:43Speaker 2: refuses to throw even a dart at tackle in the draft,
- 1:01:47Speaker 2: but drafts another three guards between the third and fourth rounds.
- 1:01:50Speaker 2: Thank god, we have a new regime, which we don't
- 1:01:53Speaker 2: know how they'll do. But you know, if Bill was
- 1:01:57Speaker 2: in charge, we would trade down and end up with
- 1:01:59Speaker 2: Media Cornoe's tackle or another box safety. Love the show.
- 1:02:04Speaker 2: I enjoy my ride home from work on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
- 1:02:08Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean, I mean, I think he hit on
- 1:02:10Speaker 7: some solid players, but I just think the lack of
- 1:02:13Speaker 7: real star and I mean, I don't think any of
- 1:02:16Speaker 7: the guys that they resign this year would be defined
- 1:02:18Speaker 7: as you know, star impact players. I like Kyle Duggar,
- 1:02:21Speaker 7: I like Michael and when you you know, I'm glad
- 1:02:23Speaker 7: that they kept those guys. I think they had to
- 1:02:25Speaker 7: keep those guys. But it's not those picks that were
- 1:02:28Speaker 7: why the team was foundering. It was because they just
- 1:02:31Speaker 7: they couldn't hit on the first rounders, the talent guys.
- 1:02:33Speaker 7: I mean, you know, Nikhil, Harry mac Jones, like those
- 1:02:36Speaker 7: first rounders that never became those stars that you build around.
- 1:02:39Speaker 7: That's what has to happen with this new regime. You'll
- 1:02:41Speaker 7: be back in the same place.
- 1:02:43Speaker 2: Mike from Connecticut doesn't like the fact that, Mike, you're
- 1:02:46Speaker 2: constantly trashing Jayden Daniels. He says, Mike, we get it,
- 1:02:51Speaker 2: you just want May. How about you just say that
- 1:02:54Speaker 2: instead of squinting like a child biting a lemon. Right
- 1:02:57Speaker 2: before rattling off the tried and true critiques of Daniels,
- 1:03:01Speaker 2: I take any of the top five quarterbacks over what
- 1:03:04Speaker 2: we've dealt with since Brady, and I'll scream if we
- 1:03:06Speaker 2: don't take Daniels, if May is gone at three.
- 1:03:10Speaker 7: Okay, I'll just stop talking.
- 1:03:13Speaker 3: Then this is just another one of the examples that
- 1:03:15Speaker 3: I can't stand. And I like Daniels more than Mike does.
- 1:03:20Speaker 3: Why am I right? Like I don't understand, like, oh
- 1:03:25Speaker 3: that you rattled off the tried and true criticisms. Might
- 1:03:28Speaker 3: they be accurate ones? Or is it just your opinion
- 1:03:32Speaker 3: that's the one that that matters.
- 1:03:34Speaker 7: You know, It's like, hey, I'm sick of I'm sick
- 1:03:37Speaker 7: of talking about these guys too, so you know you
- 1:03:39Speaker 7: want have to listen to any of it, but like.
- 1:03:41Speaker 3: Why do like why do you have to like Jayden
- 1:03:43Speaker 3: Daniels as much as I do?
- 1:03:45Speaker 7: Well, that's what I think makes it more entertaining.
- 1:03:47Speaker 3: One we're both luckstep on May. I want May over Daniels,
- 1:03:51Speaker 3: But that doesn't mean I'm right. Like why these people
- 1:03:56Speaker 3: go crazy with these things? Uh, these draft related Uh
- 1:04:00Speaker 3: the machine it is, it's it's it's like a draft,
- 1:04:03Speaker 3: like like Felker calls it the draft industrial Crop likes. Sure,
- 1:04:06Speaker 3: it really is, Yeah, I mean, and it's insanity.
- 1:04:09Speaker 7: I mean, I think part of the problem too, is
- 1:04:10Speaker 7: just that I don't watch college football, so I come
- 1:04:12Speaker 7: to these guys and then you know, I'm slowly taking
- 1:04:15Speaker 7: bits and pieces here over the course of the spring,
- 1:04:17Speaker 7: and you know, I'm learning things that a lot of
- 1:04:19Speaker 7: people have probably already known for two years. But I
- 1:04:21Speaker 7: will say I'm coming to these opinions kind of on
- 1:04:23Speaker 7: my own and not, you know, just kind of listening
- 1:04:26Speaker 7: to what everybody else says. So I don't know, I've
- 1:04:28Speaker 7: watched enough football now and then you know, covering the
- 1:04:31Speaker 7: team long enough now that I feel like I trust
- 1:04:33Speaker 7: my instincts when I like a player, and if I mean,
- 1:04:35Speaker 7: I'm not to.
- 1:04:36Speaker 5: Say I'm always right, but nobody is. But again, I
- 1:04:39Speaker 5: have certain things I like, was it Mike the emailer
- 1:04:43Speaker 5: was also on my crime you know, Mike likes Jayden dimmls.
- 1:04:45Speaker 5: I like Jayden Daniels too. I'm with Mike, but doesn't
- 1:04:48Speaker 5: mean that like you're wrong, No, and he just doesn't
- 1:04:50Speaker 5: like the squinting squinting because Mike is not sold on
- 1:04:53Speaker 5: Jayden Daniels.
- 1:04:54Speaker 3: He's been very consistent for about a month. Yeah I do.
- 1:04:58Speaker 3: And he's too nice to just say, yeah, I don't
- 1:05:00Speaker 3: buy him sucks. He's like, I gotta give it some
- 1:05:03Speaker 3: thought first.
- 1:05:04Speaker 7: Well, and I mean, and to be fair though, like
- 1:05:05Speaker 7: I'm not saying, I mean, I'm gonna still have him
- 1:05:08Speaker 7: on you know, my big board, Like I still I'm
- 1:05:10Speaker 7: still intrigued by him. I just I have concerns. I
- 1:05:13Speaker 7: think some of the issues that have been talked about
- 1:05:17Speaker 7: are legit and I just I I have some concerns
- 1:05:20Speaker 7: that he's going to develop into the next you know,
- 1:05:22Speaker 7: Lamar Jackson kind of player in this league.
- 1:05:24Speaker 2: Uh, Devin in North Carolina, Hey, Pugh crew. I've noticed
- 1:05:29Speaker 2: that everyone that calls or emails from North Carolina are
- 1:05:32Speaker 2: against drafting Drake May at number three. Me, on the
- 1:05:35Speaker 2: other hand, couldn't disagree more. I've watched most of his
- 1:05:38Speaker 2: games that you went seeing. I feel like the guy
- 1:05:41Speaker 2: is a game changer. He's smart in the pocket and
- 1:05:44Speaker 2: has a hell of an arm. He reminds me a
- 1:05:46Speaker 2: lot of Josh Allen. Would you guys rather take Drake
- 1:05:49Speaker 2: May or Jayden Daniels?
- 1:05:50Speaker 3: Okay, I probably go, Oh, I'm sorry Drake.
- 1:05:54Speaker 8: Right.
- 1:05:56Speaker 3: Yeah. We haven't heard from as many of those people
- 1:06:00Speaker 3: May lately. And I think it's because the Patriots kind
- 1:06:05Speaker 3: of look like that's where they're headed. Yeah, and I
- 1:06:07Speaker 3: think that's wrong too.
- 1:06:08Speaker 6: Get on board, you know.
- 1:06:09Speaker 3: And it's like the other part of that JJ McCarthy
- 1:06:13Speaker 3: thing that I didn't understand was like Michael Holly in
- 1:06:20Speaker 3: particular on the NBC Sports Boston show, the with Weelger
- 1:06:24Speaker 3: there Boston Sports Time. I think it's called you know,
- 1:06:29Speaker 3: I don't like he doesn't like JJ McCarthy as a prospect,
- 1:06:33Speaker 3: doesn't like him obviously not as a person. And I
- 1:06:38Speaker 3: was like, you know, I may have been wrong on that,
- 1:06:41Speaker 3: because you're getting intel that's letting you know that the
- 1:06:46Speaker 3: Patriots are thinking about taking him. Makes you wrong, Like,
- 1:06:50Speaker 3: well how does that work?
- 1:06:52Speaker 6: No, it's like the mac Jones thing. I mean, like
- 1:06:54Speaker 6: you weren't a big fan of mac Jones.
- 1:06:56Speaker 7: The fact they took him, you still weren't a big
- 1:06:57Speaker 7: fan of mac Jones, and you know, ultimately kill him.
- 1:07:00Speaker 3: I you know Fred, Fred has often talked about this like,
- 1:07:03Speaker 3: you know, we'll you know, we have our opinions going in,
- 1:07:07Speaker 3: but then you got to see what happens, and you
- 1:07:08Speaker 3: got to and if you don't adjust. Remember what Fred
- 1:07:10Speaker 3: used to say, like if we just sit here, we
- 1:07:13Speaker 3: tell you that everything is this way, and we're not
- 1:07:15Speaker 3: telling you what's actually happening. I think in training camp
- 1:07:17Speaker 3: was when you used to say that, Yeah, like responsibility,
- 1:07:20Speaker 3: No one's going to take anything that you say with
- 1:07:23Speaker 3: So like I'm not going to pretend because oh the
- 1:07:25Speaker 3: team that I'm working for drafted him, so I got
- 1:07:28Speaker 3: to give him a second look. No, I didn't think
- 1:07:32Speaker 3: he was very good. I still don't think he's very good.
- 1:07:35Speaker 3: But if he turned out to be an all pro,
- 1:07:38Speaker 3: and I continued to say he stinks, then my credibility's gone.
- 1:07:42Speaker 8: Right.
- 1:07:43Speaker 2: If you find that your future analysis is your takes,
- 1:07:49Speaker 2: then you're not being accurate. And I mean you have
- 1:07:51Speaker 2: to forget your take when it comes to the actual
- 1:07:54Speaker 2: what happens.
- 1:07:55Speaker 3: I mean, our buddy Barth was on with the Hub
- 1:07:57Speaker 3: with Felger quarterback neutral and he net neutral, He tortured,
- 1:08:02Speaker 3: he absolutely torched JJ McCarthy. What do you think of McCarthy?
- 1:08:06Speaker 3: What do you think of all these rumors about him
- 1:08:09Speaker 3: climbing out the bullys. I don't like him. I I
- 1:08:11Speaker 3: don't know all the things that we've said. Well, what
- 1:08:14Speaker 3: if the Patriots take him, you're going to kill them, right,
- 1:08:17Speaker 3: because you know Felgers, he just cares about your take
- 1:08:19Speaker 3: it right, you know you're gonna kill him if the
- 1:08:21Speaker 3: Patriots take him. And this is long pause, and I'm like, well,
- 1:08:25Speaker 3: well know, if you think this guy is a terrible
- 1:08:27Speaker 3: player and the team takes him, you need to do
- 1:08:30Speaker 3: what Evan did on Cole Strange, right. You know you
- 1:08:33Speaker 3: don't just say, well, the team I'm covering took that player,
- 1:08:37Speaker 3: so right, maybeah, I'm wrong.
- 1:08:38Speaker 7: And it's such an organic thing too. I liked Mac Jones.
- 1:08:41Speaker 7: I saw, you know, what the fit was, and I
- 1:08:43Speaker 7: you know, I bought into he's gonna be able to
- 1:08:45Speaker 7: be you know, do what Bill wanted him to do,
- 1:08:47Speaker 7: which is, don't make mistakes, understand where to go to
- 1:08:49Speaker 7: with the ball, call the right protections, and you know,
- 1:08:52Speaker 7: then I evolved as I watched him over a period
- 1:08:54Speaker 7: of time of even you know, even those initial practices
- 1:08:56Speaker 7: when he won the starting job in training camp, it
- 1:08:58Speaker 7: was wow.
- 1:08:59Speaker 6: I mean those joint joined practice against the Panthers, was
- 1:09:01Speaker 6: that was?
- 1:09:02Speaker 7: That was that twenty twenty one giants Giants when he
- 1:09:04Speaker 7: got in, when Cam got COVID, Yeah, so changed, you know,
- 1:09:08Speaker 7: and even there it was like, all right, this is
- 1:09:10Speaker 7: there's something here. But then you started to see you
- 1:09:12Speaker 7: started right because and then they ruined him and it
- 1:09:16Speaker 7: was over. But you know, there was other things that
- 1:09:19Speaker 7: started to come out with him. His style of play
- 1:09:21Speaker 7: where you know, when when the game was on the line,
- 1:09:23Speaker 7: he wasn't always as much.
- 1:09:24Speaker 2: My quote with him was I'm very pleased that Mac
- 1:09:27Speaker 2: Jones is the quarterback of the Newing Patriot.
- 1:09:29Speaker 6: That's that's about as high as you got.
- 1:09:32Speaker 3: And you know, and then he proved me that I
- 1:09:35Speaker 3: wasn't pleased, right, And I didn't sit there and tell
- 1:09:36Speaker 3: you that he sucked his whole rookie year. No, I
- 1:09:39Speaker 3: didn't say that, even though I was still not sold
- 1:09:42Speaker 3: on him. I didn't tell you that. I didn't.
- 1:09:44Speaker 2: I don't think Max is that good.
- 1:09:46Speaker 3: We all remember your truth right when I came up.
- 1:09:49Speaker 7: But I mean, I remember in early twenty twenty two.
- 1:09:51Speaker 7: I forget what game it was, but I think like
- 1:09:53Speaker 7: Mac had like you know, someone had given him a
- 1:09:55Speaker 7: gentle like bump out of bounds and he like jumped
- 1:09:57Speaker 7: off the cliff and all of a sudden, I and
- 1:09:59Speaker 7: then I came into the radio and I'm just like,
- 1:10:01Speaker 7: I'm sick of this stuff, Like just be a man
- 1:10:04Speaker 7: and play the game, and don't, you know, try to
- 1:10:06Speaker 7: draw flags, and you know, then he's starting to put
- 1:10:09Speaker 7: his foot up and kick people in the knuts.
- 1:10:11Speaker 6: Like that stuff was just like I'm out on that stuff.
- 1:10:13Speaker 2: Individually, none of them were a big deal, but you
- 1:10:16Speaker 2: add them all up, and this is kind of who
- 1:10:18Speaker 2: he is.
- 1:10:18Speaker 7: And I and I and I think that that all
- 1:10:20Speaker 7: kind of fed into some of the locker room stuff,
- 1:10:22Speaker 7: you know, especially defensive guys.
- 1:10:24Speaker 3: The defensive players talking about it the way they did.
- 1:10:26Speaker 2: You know it?
- 1:10:27Speaker 3: Yeah, factor right.
- 1:10:29Speaker 2: Ramon has a would you rather game? Based on hindsight? Ready?
- 1:10:34Speaker 3: Okay?
- 1:10:35Speaker 2: First one is would you rather start Stidham over acquiring
- 1:10:39Speaker 2: Cam or letting Cam ride it out instead of drafting
- 1:10:42Speaker 2: Mac start Stidham over?
- 1:10:46Speaker 3: I would rather have started.
- 1:10:48Speaker 7: That's Paul's take, and I would jump to that ship.
- 1:10:50Speaker 2: Now would you rather have not drafted Easily or not
- 1:10:53Speaker 2: drafted Harry?
- 1:10:55Speaker 7: Ah?
- 1:10:57Speaker 3: Not drafted Harry?
- 1:10:58Speaker 7: Yeah, Harry, Harry Harry, because even in his when you
- 1:11:02Speaker 7: saw him at his at his height of his get
- 1:11:04Speaker 7: off powers with Easily, like you saw what was there
- 1:11:07Speaker 7: with with Harry, it was just kind of not really,
- 1:11:11Speaker 7: not really that intriguing.
- 1:11:13Speaker 2: Would you rather prevent Peyton getting his first ring or
- 1:11:16Speaker 2: a second ring? Second manning second?
- 1:11:20Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 1:11:20Speaker 6: I think that.
- 1:11:21Speaker 7: I just think that's more disappointing to me. I mean,
- 1:11:23Speaker 7: the Patriots, for as hard as they fought in that
- 1:11:26Speaker 7: first game, me to had that, and then we had
- 1:11:30Speaker 7: already beaten the Bears in the Super Bowl, I know,
- 1:11:32Speaker 7: but that was kind of.
- 1:11:32Speaker 6: Who they were. I felt like that.
- 1:11:33Speaker 7: I felt like the fifteen Patriots were better than that
- 1:11:36Speaker 7: the Broncos.
- 1:11:37Speaker 6: I know, but that was the one.
- 1:11:38Speaker 7: I hate the Colts more than don't let him go
- 1:11:40Speaker 7: out with it. I think like Peyton Manning is a
- 1:11:42Speaker 7: great player. I think he deserved to.
- 1:11:43Speaker 3: Have that kind of the odd good reason that we
- 1:11:45Speaker 3: hates more than the Broncos. I mean, if anybody can
- 1:11:48Speaker 3: appreciate hate, Yeah, it's right. Would you rather win six rings.
- 1:11:53Speaker 2: In a tennis year span or when all you or
- 1:11:58Speaker 2: when all you attended in the twenty year span? Caveat
- 1:12:02Speaker 2: is after the six and ten you you can win more.
- 1:12:08Speaker 3: So I would rather have won more than like, yeah, they.
- 1:12:14Speaker 2: Tell me how many I attended in a twenty year span,
- 1:12:16Speaker 2: and now that's I did too many? Yeah, I don't know.
- 1:12:21Speaker 3: And then one would rather win them all than just
- 1:12:22Speaker 3: wine six and a and one more like fifteen years.
- 1:12:27Speaker 2: Would you would you rather let go of Bill the
- 1:12:30Speaker 2: year Brady left or force him to get a gym
- 1:12:33Speaker 2: with authority? In Brady's final year GM a GM. I
- 1:12:36Speaker 2: think he meant yes, g ym, but a GM with.
- 1:12:39Speaker 7: I mean they probably needed a new gym too.
- 1:12:41Speaker 2: So would you have rather forced Bill to get a
- 1:12:44Speaker 2: GM for the final years, or get rid of him.
- 1:12:47Speaker 7: When Brady left, I did not want to get rid
- 1:12:51Speaker 7: of I didn't want to get rid of him.
- 1:12:54Speaker 3: But it's hard to in retrospect. Maybe it would have
- 1:12:56Speaker 3: been better, but I had to choose between the two.
- 1:12:58Speaker 2: I let him both go at the same time. A
- 1:13:01Speaker 2: GM would have worked.
- 1:13:02Speaker 6: No, no, it never would have worked.
- 1:13:03Speaker 2: It been just four years of more drama and all
- 1:13:07Speaker 2: that stuff. Evan's here and he just came back from
- 1:13:10Speaker 2: some access.
- 1:13:11Speaker 4: Some press conferences.
- 1:13:13Speaker 2: Yes, so what do you what news do you bring?
- 1:13:16Speaker 4: Uh So we tawt We talked to armand Watts and
- 1:13:19Speaker 4: Uhki So two new guys, two new free agents. I thought, uh,
- 1:13:25Speaker 4: you know, it's cool to first time we've talked to
- 1:13:27Speaker 4: either of them since they signed with the Patriots. So
- 1:13:29Speaker 4: it was always interesting to hear why why guys other
- 1:13:32Speaker 4: than money? You know, obviously, why why guys can come here?
- 1:13:36Speaker 3: Yeah? Oh, okay, all right. I actually talked to Taki
- 1:13:40Speaker 3: Taki a little bit.
- 1:13:41Speaker 2: So, uh yeah.
- 1:13:41Speaker 4: I mean not that armand Wats did anything wrong, but
- 1:13:44Speaker 4: I was really impressed with with Taki. Taki. H definitely
- 1:13:47Speaker 4: a guy that can talk the game and you can
- 1:13:49Speaker 4: tell his football iq is is pretty high, and it
- 1:13:52Speaker 4: was already talking about different roles in the Patriots defense
- 1:13:55Speaker 4: and how you know he can play on and off
- 1:13:57Speaker 4: the line, and do you know all these different things.
- 1:13:59Speaker 4: So obviously was he in all that up, So it
- 1:14:02Speaker 4: was cool to hear from him. I think, you know
- 1:14:04Speaker 4: the Elliott Wolf connection going back to Cleveland, and this
- 1:14:08Speaker 4: one was sort of writing on the wall. Maybe not
- 1:14:10Speaker 4: a player that anybody household name necessarily, but once you
- 1:14:14Speaker 4: start to look at all the connections that brought him here,
- 1:14:17Speaker 4: you start to realize that he was probably someone that
- 1:14:20Speaker 4: they had identified in this free agent class. And then
- 1:14:24Speaker 4: Amarin Watts, I thought it was interesting talking about rushing
- 1:14:27Speaker 4: off of Barmore and he's another interior pass rusher that
- 1:14:30Speaker 4: that put up some pretty good pressure stats with Pittsburgh
- 1:14:33Speaker 4: last year. So just being able to rush next to
- 1:14:35Speaker 4: him and in this defense and learning from some of
- 1:14:38Speaker 4: the guys in Pittsburgh because they obviously have some great
- 1:14:41Speaker 4: talent on the defensive line too. So cool.
- 1:14:44Speaker 2: Was this an in person or in person?
- 1:14:47Speaker 4: A lot of media A decent amount for random okay
- 1:14:51Speaker 4: Ota press.
- 1:14:52Speaker 2: Connor usual suspects or any new faces.
- 1:14:54Speaker 4: Usual suspects, No, new faces.
- 1:14:57Speaker 2: Yep, no one's taken over a beat for anyone or
- 1:14:59Speaker 2: not like that usual still doesn't.
- 1:15:03Speaker 4: Yes, I don't think Nesson's they're not covering.
- 1:15:06Speaker 3: I would, yeah, I would assume, but you let all
- 1:15:09Speaker 3: those people go.
- 1:15:10Speaker 7: It's not like Yeah, I was just kind of expecting
- 1:15:12Speaker 7: there'd be like some young looking intern type person that
- 1:15:15Speaker 7: they just are.
- 1:15:16Speaker 3: Like you, you just go do it, maybe maybe on
- 1:15:18Speaker 3: game days, but you'll probably have aggregators, right, Yeah.
- 1:15:22Speaker 4: Yeah, I think they completely absolve, Like there's no more
- 1:15:26Speaker 4: Patriots beat writer at Nesson. That position does not exist anymore.
- 1:15:30Speaker 2: Mood.
- 1:15:32Speaker 4: Well, you know, we had some i mean some logistical
- 1:15:34Speaker 4: things that we had to figure out Fred, you know,
- 1:15:36Speaker 4: for the draft and do we want it to be
- 1:15:38Speaker 4: in person? Do we want it to be on zoom?
- 1:15:40Speaker 4: And how are we gonna see.
- 1:15:44Speaker 3: We want Yeah, we're looking for all three.
- 1:15:48Speaker 6: All right.
- 1:15:48Speaker 7: Well the problem is that they got a ten a
- 1:15:50Speaker 7: m Eliot Wolf, which will be in person. The draft
- 1:15:52Speaker 7: doesn't start till seven, and then they're going to do
- 1:15:55Speaker 7: in person afterwards. So it used to be the draft
- 1:15:57Speaker 7: ends at like eleven or twelve, you could just be
- 1:15:59Speaker 7: at home and do virtual interviews, but now it's like
- 1:16:01Speaker 7: you got to be here not only at ten am,
- 1:16:04Speaker 7: but you're probably gonna have to be here at like
- 1:16:05Speaker 7: twelve pm.
- 1:16:06Speaker 3: Ten am has never happened before. That's new.
- 1:16:09Speaker 2: Well why don't we do both? Why don't we just
- 1:16:11Speaker 2: I mean, you can't ask questions, but they can watch
- 1:16:14Speaker 2: it live. Then well, you know.
- 1:16:16Speaker 7: They're grousing about it. Though.
- 1:16:17Speaker 4: No, it wasn't age, you know, not grousing. It was
- 1:16:19Speaker 4: more just presented as an either scenario.
- 1:16:23Speaker 2: Current pfff w W president Andrew Callahan Andrew Callahan, Yes,
- 1:16:29Speaker 2: and so is he the most outspoken? Does he speak
- 1:16:31Speaker 2: for the group for.
- 1:16:32Speaker 4: The most part? But we pulled the class. I mean
- 1:16:34Speaker 4: obviously I didn't. I have stayed because I'm going to
- 1:16:36Speaker 4: be here regardless of.
- 1:16:37Speaker 2: If it's we're not allowed to be in the pff W.
- 1:16:40Speaker 4: Yeah, that that too, But I I, you know, it
- 1:16:43Speaker 4: doesn't matter to me what they want to do. So
- 1:16:44Speaker 4: I didn't. I didn't really vote, but yeah, it you know.
- 1:16:49Speaker 7: So were they were given the option to do some
- 1:16:51Speaker 7: of the stuff virtual. Yeah, end of the night virtually
- 1:16:53Speaker 7: makes more sense, like.
- 1:16:54Speaker 3: Friday and Saturday are virtual after the draft right according
- 1:16:59Speaker 3: to the schedule anyway, Yes, first round in person so
- 1:17:02Speaker 3: I don't like read. I'm so used to the schedules
- 1:17:04Speaker 3: that I don't really read all the detail anymore.
- 1:17:06Speaker 4: I just started reading.
- 1:17:07Speaker 3: I didn't even know. Yeah, it's different now. So that's
- 1:17:10Speaker 3: that's a good point. The ten am we've never had.
- 1:17:13Speaker 3: I don't really understand the purpose of that.
- 1:17:16Speaker 7: So excited.
- 1:17:17Speaker 4: So is that on top of him talking to us
- 1:17:20Speaker 4: after on Thursday night?
- 1:17:22Speaker 3: Like that should have been part of your vote, Like,
- 1:17:24Speaker 3: I don't need a ten am with the general manager
- 1:17:27Speaker 3: the day of the first round.
- 1:17:28Speaker 2: I think they probably want to do it that way
- 1:17:30Speaker 2: because then he's done with that obligation. He can focus,
- 1:17:33Speaker 2: he doesn't have to interrupt pre draft.
- 1:17:35Speaker 7: Maybe Macaro goes at the end of the night.
- 1:17:37Speaker 4: We don't need him pre draft. Maybe maybe the second
- 1:17:41Speaker 4: acquire it. I think, are you like a week before
- 1:17:44Speaker 4: I don't know about this ten am thing? This is
- 1:17:46Speaker 4: news to me.
- 1:17:47Speaker 3: Oh yeah, I didn't have any idea. But I told
- 1:17:49Speaker 3: you I didn't schedule.
- 1:17:52Speaker 4: That's a week from today. No, a week from today,
- 1:17:57Speaker 4: Elliott's talking at ten am and.
- 1:17:59Speaker 2: Now that typically the case. Okay, so maybe Paul read
- 1:18:02Speaker 2: it wrong.
- 1:18:02Speaker 4: I mean I did, I mean, I'm so next Thursday,
- 1:18:06Speaker 4: next Thursday. This is I know for a fact. Next
- 1:18:08Speaker 4: Thursday is Elliott's pre draft press conference here at ten
- 1:18:13Speaker 4: am at ten a m. And that is customary every year. Yeah,
- 1:18:18Speaker 4: it's been mac grow Macro Nikosia. Yeah, every year.
- 1:18:23Speaker 3: We've always had something for the draft, but not the
- 1:18:25Speaker 3: day of the now No, So it's the same as
- 1:18:28Speaker 3: it's always been.
- 1:18:29Speaker 2: Yeah, so you read it wrong.
- 1:18:31Speaker 3: I think I didn't read it wrong.
- 1:18:34Speaker 2: Oh Deuce, I think oh he was.
- 1:18:39Speaker 3: He was thinking he was talking about wanted no part.
- 1:18:42Speaker 6: Of it, all right, So I know what.
- 1:18:43Speaker 7: Yeah, No, that's right, Thursday, April eighteenth, But it was
- 1:18:45Speaker 7: under the column of twenty twenty four NFL Draft.
- 1:18:47Speaker 4: Because the pre rate, it's the pre draft that they
- 1:18:50Speaker 4: do every year, so there's a in person after the
- 1:18:54Speaker 4: draft that they're looking to make virtual so which I
- 1:18:57Speaker 4: actually agree with the masses. So the real question Friday, Thursday,
- 1:19:02Speaker 4: this is so like I don't think anybody cares.
- 1:19:04Speaker 3: No, but no one cares about the other stuff we're
- 1:19:06Speaker 3: talking about.
- 1:19:07Speaker 4: Thursday was already decided because that I believe it's in
- 1:19:13Speaker 4: person on Thursday night schedule because uh so, but Friday
- 1:19:20Speaker 4: we do the on the field with mister Kraft and
- 1:19:22Speaker 4: the jersey and all that stuff with the first round pick,
- 1:19:25Speaker 4: so people have to come for that. So the question
- 1:19:29Speaker 4: to the class was, are you all going to stay
- 1:19:33Speaker 4: through the night at that point once you come here,
- 1:19:36Speaker 4: or are you all gonna would you rather just go
- 1:19:38Speaker 4: home and we'll make everything virtual from that point on,
- 1:19:41Speaker 4: that was that was the conversation.
- 1:19:43Speaker 7: Stay through the night, that's that's hardcore.
- 1:19:45Speaker 3: Well, they just wanted to know if they needed to
- 1:19:47Speaker 3: keep it open like the press, and they choosing to
- 1:19:51Speaker 3: keep it closed.
- 1:19:52Speaker 4: They're going to close it.
- 1:19:53Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, I mean I think that's the pick that
- 1:19:55Speaker 3: I would make. It Like Evan's right, like, it doesn't.
- 1:19:58Speaker 2: It used to be we will be in this room
- 1:20:00Speaker 2: there always there used to be someone on the beat who,
- 1:20:02Speaker 2: if that was the case, would have said, no, I
- 1:20:05Speaker 2: want to be here.
- 1:20:08Speaker 4: He discus the names. Yeah, it's just uh it does Yeah,
- 1:20:16Speaker 4: it's uh so. I The one thing I did learn
- 1:20:18Speaker 4: and maybe we can, you know, try to try to
- 1:20:20Speaker 4: take advantage of this, is that either Elliott or Gerard
- 1:20:25Speaker 4: maybe coming up to the draft party after they make
- 1:20:28Speaker 4: the pick.
- 1:20:29Speaker 3: Which would be a little bit different. Usually they come
- 1:20:31Speaker 3: before the first round starts.
- 1:20:34Speaker 2: You know, nothing's set in Stone, but we're planning on
- 1:20:37Speaker 2: for our patriots unfiltered. After every pick that we're on
- 1:20:41Speaker 2: the air, we're going to get immediate reaction from someone
- 1:20:44Speaker 2: in the war room. It could be Elliott, could be Girod,
- 1:20:46Speaker 2: could be mac grow but we'll get immediate reaction live
- 1:20:51Speaker 2: from right outside the war room after every pick onto
- 1:20:56Speaker 2: our show. Yeah, well that'll be cool.
- 1:20:58Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, I think that'd be a welcome addition, and
- 1:21:01Speaker 3: you might get something that you haven't haven't really had
- 1:21:04Speaker 3: a chance. Do you think you know, and a lot
- 1:21:06Speaker 3: of people have been tweeting about it, the amount of
- 1:21:11Speaker 3: people actually in the war room. Do you think that
- 1:21:13Speaker 3: will go up significantly?
- 1:21:16Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 1:21:17Speaker 3: My answer is yes, you think it'd be more people.
- 1:21:19Speaker 2: I mean it's not that big a room.
- 1:21:21Speaker 3: There were a lot of people. There were more people
- 1:21:23Speaker 3: in the room than people think. Yeah, first of all,
- 1:21:26Speaker 3: but you know, it's not like Dallas. Whether it's like
- 1:21:29Speaker 3: a banquet haul.
- 1:21:31Speaker 4: In Dallas, they like you can win on the sweepstakes
- 1:21:34Speaker 4: in the draft.
- 1:21:35Speaker 3: But I think if they sent nine people to these
- 1:21:38Speaker 3: pro days, I think you're going to get more people
- 1:21:40Speaker 3: in the war room.
- 1:21:40Speaker 7: I would say yes, because they keep saying collaborative, and
- 1:21:43Speaker 7: collaborative means a bunch of people.
- 1:21:45Speaker 4: So it's also just when you're picking at three, there's
- 1:21:49Speaker 4: only so many different ways to go, so like what's there?
- 1:21:52Speaker 4: It really isn't worth you know, China has.
- 1:21:55Speaker 6: More people to high five.
- 1:21:56Speaker 2: When I was a young buck, I think it was
- 1:21:59Speaker 2: Pete Carroll's first year, but I asked if I could
- 1:22:02Speaker 2: sit in the war room and they said yes, so
- 1:22:05Speaker 2: I actually this is the old stadium, and you know,
- 1:22:08Speaker 2: they said it it was almost like classroom style. They
- 1:22:11Speaker 2: had like seats you know with rose and I sat
- 1:22:14Speaker 2: in the back and that was the war room. But
- 1:22:18Speaker 2: the only thing about it is when Parcels or anyone
- 1:22:20Speaker 2: talked on the phone, they'd go to another room. Oh
- 1:22:23Speaker 2: she didn't get so all these scouts and said they
- 1:22:24Speaker 2: didn't hear all that stuff anyway, and then they would
- 1:22:27Speaker 2: just come back.
- 1:22:27Speaker 7: And you know, I really wonder how what what it
- 1:22:31Speaker 7: is like because you get to that point you have
- 1:22:33Speaker 7: a board, right, and then it's it can't be as
- 1:22:35Speaker 7: simple as they took him. All right, next guy on
- 1:22:37Speaker 7: our board? Is this like there has to be right,
- 1:22:39Speaker 7: there's discussion, I'm sure, and no matter how much time
- 1:22:42Speaker 7: you put into that board, especially like as Evan said,
- 1:22:44Speaker 7: where I mean maybe it is just a no brainer
- 1:22:46Speaker 7: at this point.
- 1:22:47Speaker 3: On Saturday, when you know, hey, we're up, We're up
- 1:22:50Speaker 3: in about eight picks, and then then you stop watching
- 1:22:53Speaker 3: and then you pick, and then you just like go
- 1:22:54Speaker 3: and get a bag of chests.
- 1:22:55Speaker 7: Yeah, oh yeah, no those are yeah.
- 1:22:57Speaker 3: It says who Saturdays?
- 1:22:59Speaker 7: Who'd they pick?
- 1:23:00Speaker 3: Evans joining went that likes Saturday, well, depending on who
- 1:23:03Speaker 3: they pick.
- 1:23:04Speaker 4: A last year they picked Pop Douglas on Saturday.
- 1:23:06Speaker 7: It's pretty pumped and Booty Body saved the draft room
- 1:23:10Speaker 7: right since Evans here.
- 1:23:12Speaker 2: I wanted to save this because it's someone making fun
- 1:23:15Speaker 2: of Evans, but I want to make sure that I
- 1:23:17Speaker 2: got it earlier. Rodney and Foxborough writing in, he says
- 1:23:20Speaker 2: on the last episode, Evan talked about Logan Ryan, who
- 1:23:23Speaker 2: just retired. Congratulations to him, saying if PFF were around
- 1:23:28Speaker 2: back then, Logan Ryan wouldn't have rated him highly because
- 1:23:31Speaker 2: he let up a lot of catches Slash made tackles
- 1:23:34Speaker 2: after eight yard receptions. Actually PFF was around back then.
- 1:23:38Speaker 2: I work for them from twenty eleven to twenty twelve.
- 1:23:41Speaker 2: As I was finishing undergrad, Logan Ryan was drafted in
- 1:23:45Speaker 2: twenty thirteen, and to my recollection, he was decently rated
- 1:23:49Speaker 2: as a slot corner. I always loved his game, despite
- 1:23:52Speaker 2: fans seemingly not being too fond of him, it felt
- 1:23:55Speaker 2: validating to see him do well. Coincidentally, I started listening
- 1:23:59Speaker 2: to the podcast in twenty eleven and once emailed in
- 1:24:02Speaker 2: about talking about how PFF worked, as Paul was very
- 1:24:06Speaker 2: dismissive of it. I vaguely recall Fred mentioning that my email.
- 1:24:10Speaker 3: So is everybody else in the NFL.
- 1:24:11Speaker 2: I vaguely recall Fred mentioning that my email said I
- 1:24:14Speaker 2: went to Northeastern, and Paul saying I don't care that
- 1:24:17Speaker 2: he went to Northeastern. I still don't care about PFF status.
- 1:24:20Speaker 7: So that's harsh. Paul.
- 1:24:22Speaker 3: You know how I usually say I never said that.
- 1:24:24Speaker 3: I am quite sure sure that I said exactly.
- 1:24:29Speaker 4: That was more about Paul.
- 1:24:30Speaker 3: And I know you said that Logan Ryan would be
- 1:24:33Speaker 3: poorly rated by PFF.
- 1:24:35Speaker 2: Yeah, because he was. And you also said it wasn't
- 1:24:38Speaker 2: around back then, and it was it wasn't.
- 1:24:40Speaker 3: Got your facts straight, You've got to get your fast
- 1:24:42Speaker 3: come on, never correct. I can't rely on my nerds
- 1:24:45Speaker 3: for acturate information sorry.
- 1:24:48Speaker 2: I think though that I know what the kids say,
- 1:24:50Speaker 2: that's week song.
- 1:24:52Speaker 3: They don't say that that's what they said.
- 1:24:54Speaker 7: I will say Rodney, I would ask some questions for
- 1:24:56Speaker 7: Rodney about how he greatded Vinci Wile for because I
- 1:24:59Speaker 7: feel like in two thousand and eleven there was grading
- 1:25:01Speaker 7: on Vince Wilfork that that was the initial thing of
- 1:25:03Speaker 7: being like, I don't agree with these ratings at all
- 1:25:05Speaker 7: the way and remember that season he was like a beast,
- 1:25:08Speaker 7: you killing play on that team.
- 1:25:10Speaker 3: And you hear a lot of these former players now
- 1:25:12Speaker 3: because there's so many more avenues for these like the
- 1:25:15Speaker 3: Chris Longs, and you know, these guys they destroy PFF.
- 1:25:20Speaker 3: And I'm not talking about Chris Long individually. I'm just
- 1:25:24Speaker 3: using him as an example. Edelman. You know these guys
- 1:25:27Speaker 3: that when they talk about this stuff on McAfee's show,
- 1:25:30Speaker 3: when those guys go on, they kill it for the
- 1:25:32Speaker 3: same reasons I used to kill it, because I just
- 1:25:35Speaker 3: don't know how you're determining everybody's assignment, right, and then
- 1:25:39Speaker 3: and then they different guys. You know, if Mike Dessault
- 1:25:42Speaker 3: is breaking down the Patriots game this week and Evan
- 1:25:45Speaker 3: Lazar is breaking down the Jets game next week, Like
- 1:25:47Speaker 3: that's not the same.
- 1:25:49Speaker 7: And plus they have a platform and that's what people
- 1:25:50Speaker 7: talk about. And so if they've got like something on
- 1:25:53Speaker 7: Vince Wilfork where they're saying he's actually not playing that
- 1:25:55Speaker 7: well and you're like, but my eyes are telling me
- 1:25:57Speaker 7: that he is, and then the sentiment becomes.
- 1:26:00Speaker 4: All the Bronx just for the record, their grades, Like
- 1:26:07Speaker 4: if you don't like their grades, that that's fine.
- 1:26:09Speaker 3: I don't.
- 1:26:10Speaker 4: I'm not big on the grades either. Like the value
- 1:26:13Speaker 4: of PFF is the actual analytical stats that they have,
- 1:26:17Speaker 4: not the grades. Like the grades are what the make
- 1:26:20Speaker 4: the headlines unfortunately sometimes and are kind of like the
- 1:26:23Speaker 4: driving force of their whole product. But like they do
- 1:26:26Speaker 4: they you know, they have coverage stats, they have pressure numbers,
- 1:26:29Speaker 4: they like, they have stuff that is actually quantifiable, like
- 1:26:32Speaker 4: this guy got a quarterback hit on this player, this
- 1:26:35Speaker 4: guy you know is targeted and coverage on that play.
- 1:26:38Speaker 4: Like that's the stuff that I think is mostly valuable.
- 1:26:40Speaker 3: Type And I think a lot of that is subjective
- 1:26:43Speaker 3: pressure and coverage and stuff I think a lot of
- 1:26:46Speaker 3: And I talked to enough players to sort of validate
- 1:26:50Speaker 3: my feelings on the whole thing. I think there's a
- 1:26:52Speaker 3: lot of ambiguity that goes into who they assigned.
- 1:26:56Speaker 2: Like a quarterback hit is that because you know, oh,
- 1:27:01Speaker 2: a hit is a hit, Like that's that's I know,
- 1:27:02Speaker 2: but I'm talking about But it did it come after
- 1:27:05Speaker 2: five seconds when nobody was open and finally the quarterback
- 1:27:08Speaker 2: got hit because he was too stupid to they do
- 1:27:11Speaker 2: time to throw stuff.
- 1:27:13Speaker 7: I mean, I just think it's it's a it's a
- 1:27:15Speaker 7: piece of the puzzle and it's got to be you know.
- 1:27:17Speaker 7: I like d v o A stats. I thought those,
- 1:27:19Speaker 7: you know, those are really interesting and that's you know,
- 1:27:21Speaker 7: pretty straightforward what you see yourself and you know, I mean,
- 1:27:24Speaker 7: it's it's just all part of the picture. I mean,
- 1:27:26Speaker 7: I I they've been helpful.
- 1:27:28Speaker 3: I'm the first one to admit to it. Like I
- 1:27:30Speaker 3: I looked at it from a different way and I watched.
- 1:27:33Speaker 7: I mostly use PFF just for like record, that's what
- 1:27:37Speaker 7: they're doing too, they're watching the game.
- 1:27:39Speaker 3: But I'm not assigning blame to anybody. Now, I don't
- 1:27:42Speaker 3: know what the coverages are. Well, that's different. But I've
- 1:27:45Speaker 3: had people tell me that they've actually charted zone coverages
- 1:27:49Speaker 3: on plays that were man like that's how far off
- 1:27:51Speaker 3: they can be. Yeah, I do.
- 1:27:53Speaker 4: That's different. I I just think when it comes to
- 1:27:55Speaker 4: pressure in particular, the coverage stuff, whatever, but when it
- 1:27:58Speaker 4: comes to pressure in particular, we just know so much
- 1:28:01Speaker 4: more now about like sacks is just is such a
- 1:28:05Speaker 4: small sample size to be measuring, like who is causing
- 1:28:09Speaker 4: the most disruption on plays, and so the pressure stats
- 1:28:13Speaker 4: allow us to look at guys that are impacting plays
- 1:28:17Speaker 4: on a more regular basis, and like pressure on quarterbacks
- 1:28:20Speaker 4: is such a big thing in the game that it's
- 1:28:23Speaker 4: good to be able to measure, you know, the guys
- 1:28:26Speaker 4: that maybe aren't necessarily ten sack plus guys every single year,
- 1:28:31Speaker 4: but they cause a lot of disruption which causes a
- 1:28:33Speaker 4: lot of interceptions or incompletions or whatever. So those stuff
- 1:28:37Speaker 4: are are important. I have to defend the nerds.
- 1:28:40Speaker 3: But job, But a good job by Rodney. He sparked conversations.
- 1:28:44Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, I I look, they their grades are hard.
- 1:28:47Speaker 3: So we also we had a conversation about someone came
- 1:28:52Speaker 3: at Mike about Jayden Daniels and I was just like,
- 1:28:53Speaker 3: I don't Mike.
- 1:28:54Speaker 4: What did you say about JA?
- 1:28:55Speaker 3: But I don't understand why everybody has to have this
- 1:28:58Speaker 3: is the same kind of thing, Like, why why am
- 1:29:00Speaker 3: I going to sit here and say, Evan, you're wrong,
- 1:29:03Speaker 3: You're wrong, that's actually useless stuff.
- 1:29:05Speaker 2: No, I feel like it is.
- 1:29:06Speaker 3: Evan feels like there's value to it. Why can't you
- 1:29:09Speaker 3: know people have different opinions. Yeah, Like I really you
- 1:29:14Speaker 3: would have thought Mike, you know, ended quarterback.
- 1:29:18Speaker 2: But as Ernie would say, practices, as Ernie Adams would
- 1:29:21Speaker 2: say in Dynasty, if you're not in the building, you
- 1:29:23Speaker 2: don't know.
- 1:29:24Speaker 4: So when he tracks it, it's good. But when everybody
- 1:29:27Speaker 4: well they know they know what the play, you know
- 1:29:28Speaker 4: what the play. When he's doing it for other teams,
- 1:29:31Speaker 4: that doesn't count.
- 1:29:32Speaker 3: That's a good point that that's still different tracking tendencies
- 1:29:36Speaker 3: and you know, packages and stuff like that, which is
- 1:29:39Speaker 3: some of the stuff that you say is valuable that
- 1:29:41Speaker 3: PF is the most valuable stuff is that.
- 1:29:45Speaker 7: Where guys play, especially in the Patriots defense, workut you know,
- 1:29:48Speaker 7: like last year, I mean I think I've consulted a
- 1:29:51Speaker 7: number of times with you. How did the free safety
- 1:29:53Speaker 7: snaps evolved last year with Duggar and you know, with
- 1:29:56Speaker 7: with Peppers, those kind of things. It's great for it'll
- 1:29:58Speaker 7: tell you know, when guys are moving up and downline
- 1:30:00Speaker 7: where you know where Tod Key on White play last year?
- 1:30:02Speaker 3: You know what?
- 1:30:02Speaker 7: What where do they have him the most?
- 1:30:03Speaker 6: Though those kind of.
- 1:30:04Speaker 7: Questions, I think PFF is great for they track that
- 1:30:07Speaker 7: stuff and that that's easily easy.
- 1:30:09Speaker 2: What's so there's PFF. What's their biggest competitor next Gen?
- 1:30:13Speaker 2: Next Gen? Which is better?
- 1:30:15Speaker 4: I would say PFF is maybe a little bit better
- 1:30:18Speaker 4: because they actually have people that are watching, whereas next
- 1:30:22Speaker 4: Gen is all with the chips.
- 1:30:25Speaker 3: Right.
- 1:30:25Speaker 4: Yeah, it's mostly accurate, but there's times where like I'll
- 1:30:29Speaker 4: watch a play and they have the dots, and the
- 1:30:31Speaker 4: dots will they will actually identify coverages and like it
- 1:30:35Speaker 4: will say, oh, the defense was in cover too, and
- 1:30:37Speaker 4: I was like, that ain't cover too.
- 1:30:40Speaker 2: To me, it's completely different. I mean you in order
- 1:30:43Speaker 2: to do what PFF does, I don't.
- 1:30:44Speaker 4: Think you can do it without watching, right, they have
- 1:30:46Speaker 4: an army.
- 1:30:47Speaker 2: You can't do it with just chips. Chips gives you
- 1:30:50Speaker 2: access to different things.
- 1:30:52Speaker 4: I think I don't know, right, Like their coverage stats
- 1:30:54Speaker 4: on next Gen is who is literally the closest defender
- 1:30:58Speaker 4: to the player, like by geographic.
- 1:31:01Speaker 2: Yeah, and that could mean anything, right, And maybe he's
- 1:31:04Speaker 2: not supposed to be there.
- 1:31:05Speaker 7: Yeah, and that's and that's why it's all part of
- 1:31:07Speaker 7: the picture for me, next gen. If you want to
- 1:31:09Speaker 7: watch the game again, or you know, watch the All
- 1:31:11Speaker 7: twenty two or break down some.
- 1:31:12Speaker 6: Plate like it's it's awesome.
- 1:31:13Speaker 7: It's a it's an indispensable tool, Like for if you're
- 1:31:16Speaker 7: watching the game yourself, and I'm not really concerned with
- 1:31:18Speaker 7: what the stats are, but you know, they have all
- 1:31:20Speaker 7: of that stuff there and you know, each play and
- 1:31:23Speaker 7: the dots even, like you know, it makes it easy
- 1:31:24Speaker 7: to identify who was wearing stuff.
- 1:31:26Speaker 6: It's that that next gen thing.
- 1:31:27Speaker 4: I've had many DM conversations with people at PFF about
- 1:31:32Speaker 4: Patriots player grades though I'm like, you guys, what what
- 1:31:36Speaker 4: what are we doing like this, like we're great, We're grading,
- 1:31:39Speaker 4: Like you know, you gave Dante high Tower like a
- 1:31:42Speaker 4: fifty for this game and.
- 1:31:44Speaker 3: He was everywhere, Like I don't know what you will
- 1:31:47Speaker 3: for that year where it was like I just I
- 1:31:49Speaker 3: think there's a lot of more examples.
- 1:31:50Speaker 2: The other one, the balls aren't chipped yet, are they
- 1:31:53Speaker 2: are the balls chipped?
- 1:31:54Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 1:31:54Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, oh they are.
- 1:31:55Speaker 4: Yeah, the balls are tripped. And what I'm waiting for
- 1:31:58Speaker 4: for next gen I think will eventually is that they
- 1:32:01Speaker 4: can track velocity on throws now of how fast the
- 1:32:05Speaker 4: quarterback is thrown.
- 1:32:06Speaker 2: But no, I just want to be clear. So every
- 1:32:08Speaker 2: ball that each team has, you know that that big
- 1:32:12Speaker 2: ball bag here it's infamous. Who's they have a ship
- 1:32:18Speaker 2: in it? So what are they tucking into the laces?
- 1:32:20Speaker 2: Where is now it's.
- 1:32:21Speaker 4: Dug into the ball? It's just a little chip, like
- 1:32:23Speaker 4: it doesn't nice, not that big. So it's made in
- 1:32:26Speaker 4: the in the.
- 1:32:27Speaker 2: So when who's who's currently the manufactured Wilson Amazon? Oh
- 1:32:31Speaker 2: well yeah Wilson. Yeah, so Wilson's putting the chip in
- 1:32:35Speaker 2: at the time they make the ball.
- 1:32:37Speaker 4: The n w S or whatever the Amazon brand is.
- 1:32:42Speaker 7: Be a good video.
- 1:32:44Speaker 2: I think chips in the ball that might be a
- 1:32:46Speaker 2: good story.
- 1:32:47Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:32:47Speaker 7: I mean it's funny because when you watch like the dots,
- 1:32:49Speaker 7: like you know, like the ball just like you can
- 1:32:51Speaker 7: see it, you know, like it moves like a throw,
- 1:32:55Speaker 7: you know, like it's just you can tell.
- 1:32:57Speaker 2: Let's see Franklin in Baltimore rights in as has become
- 1:33:01Speaker 2: the slogan for twenty twenty four. I'm standing on business
- 1:33:05Speaker 2: and putting my name behind penix. I think he will
- 1:33:09Speaker 2: be the best quarterback out of this draft, and he
- 1:33:11Speaker 2: will be one of those prospects where in retrospect people
- 1:33:14Speaker 2: will question why he wasn't taken higher. I'm mainly texting
- 1:33:18Speaker 2: this in in the event I'm right, nobody can say
- 1:33:21Speaker 2: this is a take in hindsight, or that no one
- 1:33:25Speaker 2: said this pre draft. And if I'm wrong, I already
- 1:33:27Speaker 2: have the crow in the freezer and hot sauce in
- 1:33:30Speaker 2: the fridge.
- 1:33:32Speaker 3: No problem. Honestly, this is the opposite of the other
- 1:33:35Speaker 3: guy that to attacked you. I have no problem, you
- 1:33:37Speaker 3: haven't opinion, I need to know.
- 1:33:38Speaker 6: No, he was just sick of me expressing my you know,
- 1:33:41Speaker 6: kind of concerns.
- 1:33:43Speaker 3: But it was like the condescending, like we get at
- 1:33:45Speaker 3: all the tried and true criticisms. It was the phraseology
- 1:33:48Speaker 3: that bugged me more than anything.
- 1:33:49Speaker 6: I appreciate that, you.
- 1:33:51Speaker 3: Know, the tried and true criticisms of Jayden Daniels. In
- 1:33:53Speaker 3: other words, you don't know what I know. You don't
- 1:33:56Speaker 3: know ball, So I understand why you would think that
- 1:34:00Speaker 3: he's not a good prospect Devan because you don't know,
- 1:34:02Speaker 3: like I know.
- 1:34:03Speaker 4: See, this is how people think.
- 1:34:04Speaker 2: I say, basically, basically saying, all you're doing is repeating
- 1:34:07Speaker 2: what everyone else is saying. Right, but you're doing it
- 1:34:10Speaker 2: while you're eating a lemon.
- 1:34:12Speaker 3: Right he's squinting. Yeah, that's because he's an actor.
- 1:34:17Speaker 4: Penix Penix, though, stock is cooling, I would say on
- 1:34:22Speaker 4: Michael Pennix, so emailer, I don't know if the consensus
- 1:34:27Speaker 4: around the league, the scuttle butt is necessarily on your
- 1:34:30Speaker 4: side on this with Pixe.
- 1:34:32Speaker 2: Penix is really cooled off. Yeah, Mike writes in I'm
- 1:34:38Speaker 2: pretty much on the board that the Patriots are going
- 1:34:40Speaker 2: to take a quarterback at three? How good would the
- 1:34:43Speaker 2: quarterback we take need to be for us not to
- 1:34:46Speaker 2: regret passing on a guy like Marvin Harrison or Joe
- 1:34:50Speaker 2: all Control, all delete, assuming they pan out as expected.
- 1:34:55Speaker 2: Ignore process that says it's fine to miss on a
- 1:34:58Speaker 2: quarterback and still be glad you took him. I think
- 1:35:01Speaker 2: a quarterback like Tua or Derek Carr wouldn't be good
- 1:35:05Speaker 2: enough for me because I don't think those are guys
- 1:35:09Speaker 2: you can win because of I think whoever we draft
- 1:35:12Speaker 2: isn't as good, at least Dak Prescott. It would be
- 1:35:17Speaker 2: better to invest in the surrounding situation. So it has
- 1:35:20Speaker 2: to be at least as good as Dak Prescott.
- 1:35:23Speaker 3: Any of those three would be I would regret passing.
- 1:35:26Speaker 2: On I would love to hear what you'd think would
- 1:35:29Speaker 2: be good enough to justify the pick in perfect hindsight.
- 1:35:32Speaker 4: I'm not a big Derek Carr guy, so if it's
- 1:35:35Speaker 4: Derek Carr, I think it would be tough to swallow.
- 1:35:38Speaker 4: I think Dak and Tua kind of in the same tier. Like,
- 1:35:41Speaker 4: I don't really think that Dak is all that much
- 1:35:44Speaker 4: better than Tua.
- 1:35:44Speaker 8: Is.
- 1:35:46Speaker 4: I love Dak, so i'd probably have Dak higher than
- 1:35:48Speaker 4: Tua if I were to rank him.
- 1:35:50Speaker 3: But people I don't know, they're also going in opposite directions. Yeah,
- 1:35:54Speaker 3: but I like if to me, if you get a
- 1:35:58Speaker 3: good quarterback that you can win games with and you
- 1:36:01Speaker 3: pass on that for a good wide receiver, I'm gonna
- 1:36:03Speaker 3: regret that. And I think Derek Carr is a good
- 1:36:06Speaker 3: quarterback that you can win games with. Out of those three,
- 1:36:09Speaker 3: he would be three. I like Dak and two of more.
- 1:36:13Speaker 3: But I would regret Jared Goff. I'd regret having a
- 1:36:16Speaker 3: guy turn out to be that good and not taking them. Now.
- 1:36:21Speaker 3: I'm not gonna be silly and say, oh, he turns
- 1:36:23Speaker 3: into Patrick Mahomes. Obviously, anybody would regret.
- 1:36:26Speaker 4: That, but the Bears do.
- 1:36:28Speaker 3: Yeah, And I just if you if you don't have
- 1:36:31Speaker 3: a good quarterback. You know, there are a lot of
- 1:36:35Speaker 3: quarterbacks in the league that aren't as good as Derek Carr.
- 1:36:37Speaker 2: To me, the floor at three has to be Kirk Cousins.
- 1:36:40Speaker 4: That's Derek Carr, you think so. I think they're both
- 1:36:43Speaker 4: out to him.
- 1:36:44Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 1:36:44Speaker 2: I think Cousin a little bit better.
- 1:36:46Speaker 4: A little bit.
- 1:36:47Speaker 3: I think I agree with that, but I think they're
- 1:36:49Speaker 3: very similar. And I would regret passing on. As much
- 1:36:52Speaker 3: as I'm not a huge Cousins guy, I would regret
- 1:36:55Speaker 3: if he turns out to be Cousins. I'd regret that.
- 1:36:58Speaker 4: So you're saying you can get to the can win,
- 1:37:00Speaker 4: that would.
- 1:37:00Speaker 2: Be my minimum minimum to be at least as good
- 1:37:03Speaker 2: as Kirk Cousins.
- 1:37:04Speaker 3: I hear that.
- 1:37:06Speaker 4: I wouldn't say if if he ends up being Kirk Cousins,
- 1:37:09Speaker 4: Am I gonna call him a bust and like be
- 1:37:10Speaker 4: all angry about it? No, but you're definitely little disappointed.
- 1:37:15Speaker 2: That's not the But that's not the question.
- 1:37:16Speaker 3: This was just what's the worst he could be that
- 1:37:19Speaker 3: you would regret not taking Marvin Harrison, right, Yeah, Like yeah,
- 1:37:24Speaker 3: I want yeah, the third overall pick. I'm I'm looking
- 1:37:26Speaker 3: for more than Kirk Cousins, and which is Carr.
- 1:37:28Speaker 4: Why I don't want to draft Ad McCarthy.
- 1:37:30Speaker 2: But that's a separate We already had a long talk
- 1:37:32Speaker 2: about him.
- 1:37:33Speaker 6: Yeah, we all love him.
- 1:37:35Speaker 3: So let me let me just throw my real quick
- 1:37:37Speaker 3: back out. We already talked about this at nauseum. But
- 1:37:40Speaker 3: the notion that you take McCarthy because he's the safe pick, yeah,
- 1:37:44Speaker 3: why is that in your mind?
- 1:37:46Speaker 4: I think that when you when you watch him, he's
- 1:37:49Speaker 4: at his best basically running the offense on the first rate.
- 1:37:55Speaker 4: Like if you are in the like one of these
- 1:37:56Speaker 4: offenses that's got one of these wings kid coaches that
- 1:37:59Speaker 4: can get the first read open all the time, and
- 1:38:01Speaker 4: he's playing on time and he's getting the ball out
- 1:38:03Speaker 4: on time, then he can be accurate. He can he
- 1:38:06Speaker 4: can play within the confines of this pro style system.
- 1:38:10Speaker 3: Oh okay, is that what I did? No for you?
- 1:38:13Speaker 3: Oh yeah, So.
- 1:38:15Speaker 4: I'd look at McCarthy as in that rock purty mold
- 1:38:21Speaker 4: of is he gonna be the reason why you win
- 1:38:24Speaker 4: single handedly?
- 1:38:25Speaker 3: Like?
- 1:38:26Speaker 4: No, But if you put him in the right situation
- 1:38:29Speaker 4: with a good play caller, and then yes, yeah.
- 1:38:32Speaker 3: No, that's an analysis is the play of the player.
- 1:38:34Speaker 3: I'm just trying to wonder, and I've heard a lot
- 1:38:37Speaker 3: of this, Well you go with him because that's less
- 1:38:40Speaker 3: like I've actually heard people say in terms of the Patriots,
- 1:38:43Speaker 3: because he's he's the safest guy, and he'll be safe
- 1:38:47Speaker 3: for the new regime. And I don't really unders like if,
- 1:38:51Speaker 3: like if the example I use is, if May doesn't work,
- 1:38:54Speaker 3: it's gonna because he can't figure out how to be
- 1:38:57Speaker 3: more consistent, avoid mistakes, yeah, and get his accuracy is
- 1:39:00Speaker 3: mechanics down, that's gonna be why he fails, McCarthy. If
- 1:39:04Speaker 3: if he fails, it's going to be because he didn't
- 1:39:07Speaker 3: have the ability to do all the things that we
- 1:39:08Speaker 3: never saw him doing college. So I don't understand why
- 1:39:11Speaker 3: one of those things is safe and the other one's
- 1:39:12Speaker 3: a risk.
- 1:39:13Speaker 4: No, I hear what you're saying. I think that the
- 1:39:15Speaker 4: safe thing more. I think more comes from just what
- 1:39:20Speaker 4: you you believe, McCarthy is in terms of you know,
- 1:39:23Speaker 4: we call guys game managers.
- 1:39:24Speaker 3: You're making a progression on both on both sides. But
- 1:39:27Speaker 3: and you need to be right or you're going to
- 1:39:29Speaker 3: regret it.
- 1:39:29Speaker 2: But all you're saying by saying that he's safer is
- 1:39:33Speaker 2: looking at the style of play that Michigan had and
- 1:39:35Speaker 2: saying it was a low risk offense.
- 1:39:38Speaker 3: Right. But I would say, like, if you're saying someone safe,
- 1:39:42Speaker 3: that means you already think that they have a level
- 1:39:45Speaker 3: of play that can compete at the NFL level. Right,
- 1:39:50Speaker 3: we don't think JJ McCarthy has exhibited that at misig.
- 1:39:53Speaker 2: Right, we know what he can do. No, we don't
- 1:39:55Speaker 2: know what he can do.
- 1:39:56Speaker 4: Yeah, I think safe as is not the word I
- 1:39:58Speaker 4: would That's the word hit that has been here he
- 1:40:00Speaker 4: has right, Like I'm not Maybe that's not one of
- 1:40:02Speaker 4: my strong I think the other accused me of I
- 1:40:06Speaker 4: don't agree with the word safe, But just to to
- 1:40:09Speaker 4: give you an argument, I think the one the one
- 1:40:11Speaker 4: thing that JJ McCarthy really gets the feather in his
- 1:40:16Speaker 4: cap is his mechanics. He's his footwork and his release
- 1:40:20Speaker 4: and his efficiency on NFL Pro style dropbacks is really real.
- 1:40:26Speaker 3: Would have his floor might be you know, the worst
- 1:40:31Speaker 3: that he's going to be is stiff, whereas may could
- 1:40:35Speaker 3: be an abject disaster.
- 1:40:37Speaker 2: Correct and it's easy mechanics when you're throwing from an
- 1:40:39Speaker 2: empty parking lot, you know, like, yeah, he's.
- 1:40:42Speaker 4: Really yeah, but yeah, he I mean he has that.
- 1:40:46Speaker 4: That's that's I think he's not a project in the
- 1:40:50Speaker 4: sense of his mechanics and his footwork and like like
- 1:40:54Speaker 4: May is, you know, like May May is a playmaker,
- 1:40:57Speaker 4: but he but he has those issues mechanically. J. J. McCarthy,
- 1:41:00Speaker 4: I think a lot of people feel good about We
- 1:41:04Speaker 4: don't necessarily need to coach up his footwork and we
- 1:41:07Speaker 4: don't need to tweak with his release because it is
- 1:41:09Speaker 4: compact and efficient. So like we're all we're doing with
- 1:41:13Speaker 4: JJ McCarthy in my mind is that he as a processor.
- 1:41:17Speaker 4: He's just not a creative player. Like he just he
- 1:41:20Speaker 4: sees it and he throws what's open. But like he's
- 1:41:23Speaker 4: not somebody that's gonna go out there and have this
- 1:41:25Speaker 4: great creative playmaking gene that he's going to add plays.
- 1:41:28Speaker 2: Everything because he hasn't been asked to do that.
- 1:41:31Speaker 4: No, he just doesn't do it.
- 1:41:33Speaker 2: When has he had to do?
- 1:41:35Speaker 4: Do we want to pull up the film like I can.
- 1:41:38Speaker 4: Like the thing is is that he just he is
- 1:41:41Speaker 4: one of those guys that I consistently see on tape
- 1:41:43Speaker 4: that leaves bigger plays on the field because he's got
- 1:41:46Speaker 4: tunnel vision for the first read.
- 1:41:48Speaker 2: If there was one thing that before they hit the
- 1:41:53Speaker 2: field you find out about JJ McCarthy that could change
- 1:41:57Speaker 2: your mind, I say, you know what this guy can do?
- 1:41:59Speaker 7: What is it?
- 1:42:00Speaker 2: Anything?
- 1:42:00Speaker 7: No?
- 1:42:01Speaker 4: No, no, because I'd look at him as like I
- 1:42:05Speaker 4: keep saying, I look at him super similarly to brock Purty,
- 1:42:08Speaker 4: where I think there is something. There is something to
- 1:42:10Speaker 4: the fact that he's got a little bit of an
- 1:42:11Speaker 4: it factor to him. Yeah, right, a little bit of
- 1:42:13Speaker 4: that winning culture whatever you want to call it, that
- 1:42:16Speaker 4: hit factor, and he can move around a little bit.
- 1:42:20Speaker 4: He's not a stats but.
- 1:42:20Speaker 2: If he sit down, if you were Elliott Wolf or whoever,
- 1:42:23Speaker 2: and you sat down with Daniels and May and JJ McCarthy,
- 1:42:27Speaker 2: and in those one on ones, you realize, of these three,
- 1:42:33Speaker 2: McCarthy is head and shoulders smarter than the other two.
- 1:42:36Speaker 2: He's just he processes faster. He's gonna Would that change
- 1:42:41Speaker 2: your mind at all?
- 1:42:42Speaker 4: I would be shocked if that was the case, because
- 1:42:44Speaker 4: it just doesn't show up on tape. So like, yeah,
- 1:42:47Speaker 4: maybe he can get up on the whiteboard and and
- 1:42:49Speaker 4: talk through the plays better than those other guys. But
- 1:42:52Speaker 4: that's not football.
- 1:42:53Speaker 2: What if he comes to you and says, Evan, you're
- 1:42:54Speaker 2: the best decision. I'm the best decision this organization is
- 1:42:59Speaker 2: ever gonna make.
- 1:43:00Speaker 4: I don't know. I just can't get there with him.
- 1:43:02Speaker 7: What if he found out he played hockey.
- 1:43:05Speaker 4: It just what it comes down to is that if
- 1:43:08Speaker 4: you're the Patriots and you're picking at three overall, your
- 1:43:11Speaker 4: quarterback has to be the reason you win games. I agree,
- 1:43:14Speaker 4: the guy you draft has to be the reason why
- 1:43:16Speaker 4: you win games, and I just don't think that he'll
- 1:43:18Speaker 4: ever be the driving the bus drivers. He can be
- 1:43:22Speaker 4: a very very capable passenger, but he's never going to
- 1:43:25Speaker 4: be the guy that's like, we're coming out of this
- 1:43:27Speaker 4: game saying we won this game because JJ McCarthy put
- 1:43:30Speaker 4: us on his back and won the game for us.
- 1:43:33Speaker 2: Ye all right. Web Radio at Patriots dot Com Alex
- 1:43:37Speaker 2: from Warren. I'm an avid listener, love the content you
- 1:43:41Speaker 2: put out, but I have been a little disappointed with
- 1:43:44Speaker 2: your lack of coverage on one of the most important
- 1:43:46Speaker 2: picks that this organization has had in a very long time,
- 1:43:49Speaker 2: maybe ever. I of course, am talking about who was
- 1:43:52Speaker 2: going to replace Hardy on the pre postgame shows. Boss
- 1:43:56Speaker 2: man Fred seems to really want to focus on the
- 1:43:58Speaker 2: draft to avoid this glaring on the team. Please be better.
- 1:44:02Speaker 7: We were just talking about that actually, and uh, yeah,
- 1:44:04Speaker 7: I don't know in discussions.
- 1:44:07Speaker 2: Discussions. Yeah, we'll see see what happens, Mike and THEOC.
- 1:44:13Speaker 2: In past drafts, we would try to find draft prospects
- 1:44:16Speaker 2: we had a feeling Belichick would like and draft over others.
- 1:44:21Speaker 2: I wanted to ask you, guys, if you've done research
- 1:44:23Speaker 2: on Elliott Wilf's draft history and habits, I e. Types
- 1:44:26Speaker 2: of players actually should be eg. Types of players on
- 1:44:30Speaker 2: offense or defense he is known for taking in the draft.
- 1:44:34Speaker 2: Are there certain types of receivers or quarterbacks he favors
- 1:44:37Speaker 2: over others?
- 1:44:39Speaker 6: No, I mean I think that that's it.
- 1:44:41Speaker 7: We certainly with built, with how long he was, you
- 1:44:42Speaker 7: had a good sample size of the kind of players
- 1:44:44Speaker 7: that he likes, certainly on defense, the kind of guys
- 1:44:47Speaker 7: that he liked. And you know, having done like the
- 1:44:50Speaker 7: big board stuff and now like I I've just kind
- 1:44:52Speaker 7: of gravitated, let's just find good players, Like, let's not
- 1:44:54Speaker 7: get too concerned about this type or that type, like
- 1:44:57Speaker 7: just find guys that you really like, that you think
- 1:44:59Speaker 7: can play, you know, don't try to well, I think
- 1:45:02Speaker 7: this guy is great, but it doesn't seem like something
- 1:45:04Speaker 7: like and there's so much put up against the Packers
- 1:45:06Speaker 7: and what the Packers have done.
- 1:45:07Speaker 3: Like he's never done it.
- 1:45:08Speaker 7: I don't really get why, just never had his dad
- 1:45:10Speaker 7: was there in the nineties that you know now that
- 1:45:13Speaker 7: that's his you know, Like, I just you gotta find
- 1:45:15Speaker 7: good players.
- 1:45:15Speaker 3: Had twenty plus years of watching Bill and sort of
- 1:45:19Speaker 3: trying to figure out what he might do, and we
- 1:45:20Speaker 3: still didn't do it. I mean people rarely. I'm not
- 1:45:24Speaker 3: telling you we never did. I mean we all had hits,
- 1:45:27Speaker 3: but elit Wolf's never drafted a player. I mean, yeah,
- 1:45:34Speaker 3: like this is the first time he's in charge.
- 1:45:36Speaker 2: Right yep, yeah, yeah.
- 1:45:37Speaker 7: I mean I think you got to look to the coordinators.
- 1:45:40Speaker 7: And I mean that's why I haven't really veered too
- 1:45:42Speaker 7: far off the path on defense. Like, I think a
- 1:45:44Speaker 7: lot of the traits that they look for in the
- 1:45:45Speaker 7: front seven will probably be similar. It's just the hard part,
- 1:45:49Speaker 7: I think is a little bit in the you know,
- 1:45:50Speaker 7: in the receivers, what do they prefer. There's all kinds
- 1:45:52Speaker 7: of different flavors of receivers this year. What you know
- 1:45:54Speaker 7: what tickles their fancy?
- 1:45:55Speaker 2: Yeah, but when it comes to quarterback, it comes down
- 1:45:58Speaker 2: to one thing.
- 1:45:58Speaker 4: What with Ben mac do do so true?
- 1:46:02Speaker 1: That good?
- 1:46:03Speaker 8: Do do?
- 1:46:04Speaker 4: I've tried?
- 1:46:04Speaker 6: You know, what are you gonna do?
- 1:46:06Speaker 8: Hew?
- 1:46:06Speaker 4: Do you like Patrick Mahomes? What do you like in
- 1:46:09Speaker 4: this trap?
- 1:46:10Speaker 2: Carlos writes in Kendrick Bourne recently appeared on James White's
- 1:46:16Speaker 2: Money Down podcast Everybody's Gonna Buy Original. If you ask
- 1:46:21Speaker 2: me what former Patriot would you say is least likely
- 1:46:25Speaker 2: to have his own pots? Would be James White. He's
- 1:46:27Speaker 2: got because he's so. He's quiet. He was like unassuming,
- 1:46:33Speaker 2: you know, he.
- 1:46:33Speaker 3: Wasn't he was just nice?
- 1:46:34Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean it doesn't make for good podcast.
- 1:46:37Speaker 3: I didn't think he was overly quiet.
- 1:46:38Speaker 2: I think he was really I just don't see him
- 1:46:40Speaker 2: as a host. But here he is cycle hot takes.
- 1:46:45Speaker 3: I definitely do not see him doing that.
- 1:46:46Speaker 2: But anyway, On James White's Money Down podcast, Kendrick Bourne
- 1:46:51Speaker 2: said he wants to achieve a thousand yards and one
- 1:46:53Speaker 2: hundred catches this year. Yeah, wouldn't that be nice? I
- 1:46:56Speaker 2: understand he's coming off an a C. L injury, but
- 1:46:59Speaker 2: would he'd be schematically capable of playing the X or
- 1:47:03Speaker 2: being the number one in an a VP style offense.
- 1:47:06Speaker 7: Oh, I just would say generally.
- 1:47:09Speaker 9: No.
- 1:47:10Speaker 7: I mean, you know, I think he's a good receiver, right,
- 1:47:11Speaker 7: I mean all slots all the time. No. I I
- 1:47:14Speaker 7: mean I think I probably like Kendrick Bordon and that
- 1:47:16Speaker 7: a lot of people more than a lot of people do.
- 1:47:18Speaker 7: I mean, I think he was, you know, really good
- 1:47:19Speaker 7: off too. We could start last year, but I just
- 1:47:21Speaker 7: you know, you need some kind of presence on the
- 1:47:23Speaker 7: outside in some variety, whether it's speed, whether it's size,
- 1:47:26Speaker 7: and they don't really have that right now. I mean
- 1:47:28Speaker 7: we can we can talk about Taekwon Thornton. I think
- 1:47:30Speaker 7: that ship is saled, but they just they don't have
- 1:47:32Speaker 7: anybody on the outside that's going to occupy any kind
- 1:47:35Speaker 7: of detention.
- 1:47:35Speaker 2: And Carlos wants he has a request for me. He
- 1:47:38Speaker 2: wants me to point up to the sky and say,
- 1:47:40Speaker 2: thank you brother. What is that from?
- 1:47:43Speaker 4: No idea?
- 1:47:44Speaker 2: Is that like a meme that's going around now or
- 1:47:46Speaker 2: something like that?
- 1:47:46Speaker 6: Probably wants to me, you don't know there getting ready to.
- 1:47:50Speaker 2: Give the context. I give it a shot, but I
- 1:47:51Speaker 2: don't know what it.
- 1:47:52Speaker 7: Is, So monkey, we're not going to dance for you.
- 1:47:56Speaker 2: Yeah. Uh, let's see more may and Daniel's stuff. I mean, listen, hey,
- 1:48:04Speaker 2: people say, well, that's all you're talking about. Well, it's
- 1:48:07Speaker 2: a big deal. I mean it's a big when's the
- 1:48:10Speaker 2: last time we've had a need at quarterback and had
- 1:48:13Speaker 2: the number three pick overall? Yeah, that's the last time.
- 1:48:17Speaker 2: It was a long time ago.
- 1:48:18Speaker 4: I was barely alive.
- 1:48:20Speaker 2: Yep, Brad from the Eastern Shore. Given that the Patriots
- 1:48:23Speaker 2: will take may Or Daniels at three and an ot
- 1:48:27Speaker 2: Jordan Morgan at pick thirty four, Guard, it seems pretty uh, Guard, Okay,
- 1:48:33Speaker 2: would you be willing to trade a third in twenty
- 1:48:36Speaker 2: twenty four and a third in twenty twenty five and
- 1:48:39Speaker 2: possibly a fifth for T Higgins knowing that you would
- 1:48:42Speaker 2: need to pay him twenty five million plus for four years.
- 1:48:48Speaker 7: Gosh, I just had a I mean, I don't know
- 1:48:51Speaker 7: if that if those draft picks would get it done,
- 1:48:53Speaker 7: but yeah, I'd be I mean, i'd be open now.
- 1:48:54Speaker 4: I think sure the Bengals would ye hang up the
- 1:48:57Speaker 4: phone rather quickly.
- 1:48:58Speaker 3: Yeah, that's why I like the idea of acquiring T Higgins.
- 1:49:03Speaker 3: I'm not sure how to get it done.
- 1:49:04Speaker 2: I Brad says, I would, as it would give us
- 1:49:07Speaker 2: a number one receiver. I know, snarky Paul will say
- 1:49:10Speaker 2: he has never been a one receiver.
- 1:49:12Speaker 4: Who is this?
- 1:49:13Speaker 3: Higgins was absolutely a number one receiver.
- 1:49:15Speaker 2: But if we pick up a year But if we
- 1:49:17Speaker 2: pick up a Jalen McMillan or Ricky Priersol in the
- 1:49:20Speaker 2: third round, then we will have three number two receivers slots.
- 1:49:25Speaker 2: And you know what Paul says, if you have three
- 1:49:27Speaker 2: number two receivers, you don't have a number one.
- 1:49:29Speaker 7: Receive I can't look at through that lens. I mean,
- 1:49:31Speaker 7: I think like one, two, three, Like I think that T.
- 1:49:33Speaker 7: Higgins would be that presence on the outside that I
- 1:49:36Speaker 7: just mentioned. I don't know how it all like position.
- 1:49:39Speaker 7: I mean, to me, he is a one, but I
- 1:49:41Speaker 7: think they need somebody to threaten outside the number. But
- 1:49:44Speaker 7: you want to call him a one or whatever you
- 1:49:46Speaker 7: want to call him? An act like, they need somebody
- 1:49:48Speaker 7: on the outside who can make contested catches, who has
- 1:49:51Speaker 7: some speed to stretch the field.
- 1:49:53Speaker 3: That that's what I like to Higgins, you didn't get
- 1:49:55Speaker 3: what you were looking for there. I think he's a
- 1:49:56Speaker 3: really good player.
- 1:49:57Speaker 4: Yeah, I think it all comes down because you know,
- 1:50:00Speaker 4: in Cleveland they're Amari Cooper was their ex receiver, and
- 1:50:03Speaker 4: they I think targeted Calvin Ridley to be Amari Cooper,
- 1:50:07Speaker 4: you know, very similar type of route runners and guys
- 1:50:10Speaker 4: at the top of the route. So as much as
- 1:50:12Speaker 4: typically your X receiver is this you know ad An
- 1:50:14Speaker 4: I Mitchell six three two oh five with vertical ability,
- 1:50:18Speaker 4: Like I don't know if that's necessarily how a VP
- 1:50:20Speaker 4: looks at it, Like he might want a guy that's
- 1:50:23Speaker 4: more in the Amari Cooper mold, which wouldn't be that
- 1:50:25Speaker 4: type of player. So that I think that that's the
- 1:50:28Speaker 4: the questions of you know, back to that other email
- 1:50:30Speaker 4: of the Elliott Wolf type, like we don't necessarily know
- 1:50:33Speaker 4: which type of receiver. Maybe they just think we're just
- 1:50:36Speaker 4: gonna get the best guy and we'll make it work
- 1:50:38Speaker 4: with whoever that guy is. But if they're looking for
- 1:50:40Speaker 4: a specific type of stylistic player, then I don't know
- 1:50:44Speaker 4: who that's gonna be yet. You know, it could be
- 1:50:46Speaker 4: a guy like Kendrick Bourne. I don't think is necessarily that,
- 1:50:49Speaker 4: but he's probably more in the Mari Cooper side of
- 1:50:51Speaker 4: things than in the t Higgins side of things. So
- 1:50:53Speaker 4: there's a little bit of over.
- 1:50:54Speaker 7: Them when you when you look at the depth chart
- 1:50:56Speaker 7: two with you know, Juju, and I mean like maybe
- 1:50:59Speaker 7: maybe it exists in there, because I when I look
- 1:51:01Speaker 7: at the depth chart right now, I just I don't
- 1:51:03Speaker 7: see it. But maybe, like to your point, Evan Alex
- 1:51:05Speaker 7: does see it. And you know, he said, we want
- 1:51:07Speaker 7: to play with you know, a little smaller, little more speed.
- 1:51:10Speaker 4: It's best their extra receiver. Again, Cooper is this type
- 1:51:14Speaker 4: of player, so they might have just done this because
- 1:51:16Speaker 4: it was Cooper that they had on their roster. But
- 1:51:19Speaker 4: it was a lot of isolation routes on the backside
- 1:51:22Speaker 4: of formations where he's got one on one coverage and
- 1:51:25Speaker 4: he's a really good route runner, so a lot of
- 1:51:26Speaker 4: the time he's gonna win that matchup. And that that
- 1:51:29Speaker 4: was what it was.
- 1:51:29Speaker 7: And it's hard to say any of the Patriots receivers
- 1:51:32Speaker 7: would do that consistently, right, which is like Kendrick Horrene,
- 1:51:35Speaker 7: but I think he needs to run through traffic and
- 1:51:37Speaker 7: you know, get over whatever.
- 1:51:38Speaker 2: Though they might adopt a Matt grow philosophy. If you
- 1:51:40Speaker 2: want to get better at quarterback, you better draft a
- 1:51:42Speaker 2: better quarterback.
- 1:51:44Speaker 3: It's a good points.
- 1:51:45Speaker 7: Would we really simplified it for us?
- 1:51:46Speaker 3: There good point?
- 1:51:48Speaker 2: Pepe writes in I wouldn't mind if we got JJ.
- 1:51:52Speaker 2: I think you'd be fine. He's a leader, got a
- 1:51:54Speaker 2: good arm, has good mobility. I think people's opinions on
- 1:51:57Speaker 2: JJ are on extreme ends for no reason. He has
- 1:52:00Speaker 2: had good upside and he has a fine prospect in
- 1:52:03Speaker 2: my number four. What really annoys me are uneducated opinions
- 1:52:07Speaker 2: on his time at Michigan. People always talk about how
- 1:52:10Speaker 2: he came into a ready made team, which is fair
- 1:52:13Speaker 2: by the way that team has been good for years,
- 1:52:16Speaker 2: but nobody ever talks about how JJ save Harbaugh's job.
- 1:52:20Speaker 2: He was on the custop of being fired because no
- 1:52:22Speaker 2: other quarterback could help him get over the hump. JJ
- 1:52:26Speaker 2: ultimately was what put Michigan over the hump. And I
- 1:52:29Speaker 2: don't think he gets credited enough for it.
- 1:52:31Speaker 4: You mentioned three times in that email of the word fine.
- 1:52:35Speaker 3: Yeah, finet more than fine, A three, he's fine.
- 1:52:39Speaker 7: I mean, how much of the the of this though,
- 1:52:41Speaker 7: is just I mean, for me, it's it's just the
- 1:52:43Speaker 7: pushback of him being a top five pick and in
- 1:52:45Speaker 7: consideration of three, like, I don't really have a problem
- 1:52:47Speaker 7: with him if he was you know, late first early date,
- 1:52:50Speaker 7: you know, early day two kind of pick, like I
- 1:52:52Speaker 7: wouldn't be opposed to him. I just think what makes
- 1:52:54Speaker 7: me kind of push back as drafting somebody with this
- 1:52:56Speaker 7: much unknown at third overall, when you need a star
- 1:52:58Speaker 7: and there are stars there at a variety positions.
- 1:53:01Speaker 3: I have an Andy hardism for like the whole Michigan
- 1:53:03Speaker 3: over the hump thing too, Like was he the quarterback
- 1:53:08Speaker 3: that got you over the hump or was he the
- 1:53:10Speaker 3: quarterback when you got over the hump? Because I don't
- 1:53:13Speaker 3: think those two things are the same. Cad McNamara beat
- 1:53:17Speaker 3: Ohio State, broke that long streak because Harbaugh was gonna
- 1:53:22Speaker 3: get fired because he couldn't beat Ohio State. And then
- 1:53:25Speaker 3: Kid McNamara is the one that snapped that.
- 1:53:27Speaker 2: Yeah, didn't all the other transgressions have something to do
- 1:53:29Speaker 2: with it too?
- 1:53:30Speaker 3: No, he wasn't going to get fired because of the transgressions.
- 1:53:32Speaker 2: You don't think that, like if he was losing in college,
- 1:53:36Speaker 2: if he lost and had those transgressions, Now.
- 1:53:38Speaker 3: In college, they encouraged that. But no, the email was right.
- 1:53:42Speaker 3: Harbaugh's job was sort of kind of tenuous there, maybe
- 1:53:46Speaker 3: four years ago three four years ago. But I just
- 1:53:51Speaker 3: have a hard time saying JJ McCarthy got them over
- 1:53:53Speaker 3: the hump as opposed to he happened to be the
- 1:53:57Speaker 3: quarterback when they get over.
- 1:53:58Speaker 4: But he's a winner, Paul.
- 1:54:00Speaker 6: There's something that said, if you want to win, not
- 1:54:04Speaker 6: drinking or nothing, you know, like.
- 1:54:06Speaker 3: This is an extreme I admitted this is like kind
- 1:54:08Speaker 3: of an Andy Hart like example, who's the who's the
- 1:54:12Speaker 3: biggest winner in the history of college football? Tibo Tim Tebow?
- 1:54:17Speaker 3: You want him a quarterback?
- 1:54:20Speaker 2: He gonna say, Jim Thorpe.
- 1:54:21Speaker 3: He's the ultimate winner, like ultimate leader, ultimate guy who
- 1:54:26Speaker 3: dragged teams across the finish line. Nobody won jump like
- 1:54:31Speaker 3: Tim Tebow. Answer, I'm going to I'm gonna be all
- 1:54:34Speaker 3: bloody at the end of the game and everybody's gone,
- 1:54:39Speaker 3: couldn't play. I feel like ultimate winner. I ultimate winner.
- 1:54:43Speaker 4: Have a tough time equating winning in college to the
- 1:54:49Speaker 4: quarterback because the teams that win the national championship in
- 1:54:52Speaker 4: college are loaded.
- 1:54:53Speaker 3: They're generally the best team.
- 1:54:55Speaker 4: On both sides of the ball, right, And Michigan's defense
- 1:54:58Speaker 4: was unreal, you know, and so it just I don't
- 1:55:02Speaker 4: think that it's like Brady leading the Patriots to a
- 1:55:05Speaker 4: super Bowl or Mahomes leading the Chiefs to a super Bowl,
- 1:55:09Speaker 4: because the talent gap is so much wider in college
- 1:55:11Speaker 4: football than it is in the pros.
- 1:55:15Speaker 2: Sam in North Carolina, have you guys seen this rumor
- 1:55:18Speaker 2: going around that Jaden Daniel's visit to the Commanders didn't
- 1:55:21Speaker 2: go well and he expects to be a Patriot. What
- 1:55:23Speaker 2: do you think about this?
- 1:55:25Speaker 3: I did see that, but I don't know what it means.
- 1:55:27Speaker 7: Well, he like retweeted it then and then and now
- 1:55:29Speaker 7: it's like somebody's saying he hadn't even visited the Commandity.
- 1:55:31Speaker 7: I don't know, it's just someone else puts something.
- 1:55:33Speaker 3: There's like he's trying to avoid getting no.
- 1:55:36Speaker 6: I think this is just.
- 1:55:37Speaker 7: Draft idiocy, and you know, and on Twitter with this,
- 1:55:40Speaker 7: I think it was like somebody put like m L
- 1:55:42Speaker 7: football like it's one of the I don't know, but
- 1:55:44Speaker 7: it was. You know, it was literally like covering every
- 1:55:46Speaker 7: base like breaking news with a siren, like you know,
- 1:55:48Speaker 7: every single scenarios as being pitched is like this is
- 1:55:51Speaker 7: what's going to happen. So I just think we're in
- 1:55:54Speaker 7: draft silly season and that you know, these are the
- 1:55:56Speaker 7: kind of things that get drummed up for clicks and
- 1:55:58Speaker 7: reads and attention.
- 1:55:59Speaker 4: Yeah I do. There are such a different personalities though,
- 1:56:03Speaker 4: Jaden Daniels and Drake May that if that's if one
- 1:56:06Speaker 4: of them is more of your cup of tea. Like
- 1:56:08Speaker 4: Drake May is this southern kid that's always got a
- 1:56:11Speaker 4: smile on his face. Is pretty laid back, like, you know,
- 1:56:15Speaker 4: happy go lucky kind of kid. Jadeen Daniels seems like
- 1:56:18Speaker 4: he's been a star in the NFL for ten years already,
- 1:56:22Speaker 4: you know, just the way it's LSU Heisman Trophy winner,
- 1:56:26Speaker 4: a little bit older of a prospect too, so there's
- 1:56:29Speaker 4: reasons for it. But Jaden Daniels is like he's he
- 1:56:34Speaker 4: kind of knows he's it.
- 1:56:35Speaker 1: You know.
- 1:56:35Speaker 3: There's a lot of these things that I think are
- 1:56:37Speaker 3: kind of smoke screens. But I kind of wonder what's
- 1:56:39Speaker 3: the end game for the smoke screen, Like who's trying
- 1:56:41Speaker 3: to fool who and get someone to do what right?
- 1:56:43Speaker 3: And I can't many threads, too many voices in my head?
- 1:56:47Speaker 2: Who benefits? Ben from BC. This will be our last email.
- 1:56:52Speaker 2: Thank you for your in depth coverage analysis over the
- 1:56:54Speaker 2: last few months. I'm looking forward to the draft so
- 1:56:56Speaker 2: we can move on from the May versus Daniels discussion.
- 1:56:59Speaker 2: That being I have to say, Tuesday show changed something
- 1:57:02Speaker 2: for me. I used to weigh each of your opinions equally. However,
- 1:57:07Speaker 2: Fred's take on the last season of Game of Thrones
- 1:57:10Speaker 2: raised some red flags for me. Thank you, it was
- 1:57:12Speaker 2: by far the worst possible storyline they could have selected,
- 1:57:15Speaker 2: poorly written, and undermine what they had created over the
- 1:57:19Speaker 2: previous seasons. Thank you Evan for having no time for
- 1:57:22Speaker 2: that ridiculousness.
- 1:57:24Speaker 4: No notes perfect.
- 1:57:26Speaker 7: So there, I'm still waiting for the books.
- 1:57:27Speaker 2: We'll end on that note, you and only you. All right,
- 1:57:31Speaker 2: So is that it for this week? Anything I need
- 1:57:35Speaker 2: to tell anybody about.
- 1:57:36Speaker 7: No, that's that's gonna be it. We're gonna do a
- 1:57:38Speaker 7: little draft breakdown on the quarterbacks. So that'll be last
- 1:57:43Speaker 7: episode produced. Episode be out next Wednesday. We'll do a
- 1:57:46Speaker 7: last show on the twenty fourth, But otherwise I always
- 1:57:48Speaker 7: think we're just closing in on the old draft.
- 1:57:50Speaker 2: All right, We'll be back Tuesday. See you next Tuesday.
